- 0:02This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me, covering one piece
- 0:11episodes four sixty four through four sixty six. A Descendant of the Beast,
- 0:18Little Oars Junior, Full Speed Ahead, Justice for the Winners, and Goku's
- 0:24Strategy and Action and straw Hat Team arrives. Tension grows at the battlefield in
- 0:34these episodes. We've got Oars, a little baby Oars, and it seems
- 0:40like he's like actually dead And I just want to know who hurt Oda?
- 0:45Why does he need to do this to me? For what real? What
- 0:49did I do to you? Oda? This is extremely rude and heartless and
- 0:54you are a hell beast. Welcome spoil Me. Welcome to the show everyone.
- 1:19I am Natasha. Thank you very much to Florian for commissioning this episode.
- 1:25Florian is here in the chat, and thank you Florian for creating a
- 1:30character list. Florian's gonna try and share it with me here in the chat,
- 1:34but it is something that I may post in groups like on Facebook and
- 1:42stuff as well for other people to reference in case there's anybody else who's like
- 1:45sort of following along. I'm really really curious, honestly, if there's anybody
- 1:49who listens to these spoil me episodes. Who hasn't watched one piece already?
- 1:55Is there anybody who's following along and is like a total nube to this series
- 1:57the way that I am, Because if so, I definitely want to hear
- 2:01from you, and you may not hear back from me if you message me
- 2:07or like email me. I have been so behind lately, ukays, I
- 2:10am so behind. But uh, you know, I have to think that
- 2:15there's a you know, somebody out there who saw the Netflix series and was
- 2:23like, let me start the anime because I liked this Netflix series and is
- 2:25finding themselves a little bit lost, and maybe I can be some sort of
- 2:31beacon for them. I don't know, but uh, I you guys this
- 2:38show. There was a post in the Patron's Only Facebook group where a woman
- 2:46was on stage doing some stand up bit, but it was the kind where
- 2:50you interact with the audience a lot, and she said, like, you
- 2:53know, any television show's plotline sounds completely insane if you describe what it is
- 3:00in like simple terms, which is true, you know, really like pick
- 3:05a plot for a TV show and you're gonna sound nuts. But she then
- 3:09goes to the audience somebody tell me the name of a show real quick,
- 3:13and somebody yelled out one Piece, and I was just like, that is
- 3:16such an unfair choice. That is easy mode. One Piece isn't even I
- 3:22describe it to you, and it sounds crazy. You watch it, and
- 3:25it is crazy. There's nothing about this show that is normal. There's nothing
- 3:31about it that falls within the lines of what you're used to with television unless
- 3:36you are a big fan of anime already and you know, like a lot
- 3:39of tropes and stuff like this, but it is you know, she's describing
- 3:44it, and yeah, it sounds bonkers because it literally is the weirdest fucking
- 3:47show I've ever watched. So why are we putting that one out there?
- 3:52Choose something like Breaking Bad or you know what I mean, like The Wire,
- 3:58something that's got a more grounded premise, because that's a more difficult thing.
- 4:03But anyway, just wondering out there if there's anybody so these episodes,
- 4:12like the first of the three is the one that's most focused really on baby
- 4:17Oars. Now I'm curious, and I don't know if there's actually an answer
- 4:23to this. Uh you know, Florian may be able to answer, Uh,
- 4:30why remind me why Oors was called Ors? Why is this little guy
- 4:36also called Ars? Like I thought that I remember Ors being the name that
- 4:43was assigned, and I guess I must be wrong. So is like this
- 4:47dude baby ors Essentially? Is he really related or are they just talking to
- 4:54him like he's related? Or are the letters O RS like an uh anagram's
- 5:01an anagram that's not the one I want to know acronym for something. David
- 5:10says normal part of one piece, A group of friends hang out and have
- 5:13wacky hijinks. That's the most normal that you can say, And that's really
- 5:16not adequate. You'd say that they have wacky hijinks, and I'm thinking wacky,
- 5:21like, oh, there's a guy hiding in the closet because he doesn't
- 5:25want his friend to know that he was visiting so and so like a three's
- 5:28company. That's what I think when I'm thinking wacky. They're not wacky,
- 5:31you guys. This is straight up bonkers banana pants town, That's what this
- 5:35is. But Ores, it turns out, was like, you know,
- 5:42a friend of our crew, the white Beard crew for a long time,
- 5:47and we have a whole thing with him getting a hat from Ace I don't
- 5:56know what Oda's deal is with hats, but man, this dude fucking loves
- 6:02hats obsessed. How many people have their motivations like just boiled down to whether
- 6:10they're wearing a certain hat or not. It's truly hilarious in a way,
- 6:15Like I'm not mad at it because it is the sort of thing that's like
- 6:17symbolic of your identity and like a role that you can take on or off
- 6:23depending something that can be easily gifted, but then just becomes such a signature
- 6:28part of your look that everybody associates you with it. You know, there's
- 6:31very few pieces of clothing that are the type of thing that can be worn
- 6:38at all times. You know, if somebody gives you, like a T
- 6:42shirt, you may be able to wear that T shirt. But if you
- 6:45live anywhere where you have to put on a coat, then who cares about
- 6:47your T shirt? If you are given a coat and you're somewhere warm,
- 6:51if you're giving the wrong pair of shoes, you know, but hat,
- 6:55everybody's going to be able to tell what the hat is all the time.
- 6:58So it is kind of like a neat and tidy way of putting somebody's identity
- 7:05like up front and center. And I just the fact that this little guy,
- 7:15and I call him little because in spirit ors Junior is little. He
- 7:23is a giant man creature whatever. He's more than a giant, clearly.
- 7:30I don't remember if we ever find out exactly like what species he is,
- 7:35but Ores is towering over the giants. He's got to be at least three
- 7:42times their size. I feel like more than three times because he's like standing
- 7:47in the water in the ocean, you know, and sticking up out of
- 7:50it. I don't know that those giants could have reached him there. Once
- 7:54he's starting to get to land and approaching standing on the same surface that the
- 8:00giants are, they're like at his knees maybe hips. And this dude in
- 8:07his flashbacks, the first time that we see him, like next to Ace,
- 8:13Ace is asking, aren't you hot because you're like closer to the sun,
- 8:20and he says, I am, actually yeah. So Ace makes him
- 8:26a hat and we find out like he has to try a couple of times
- 8:31bless him. I just, you guys, there is nothing like and you
- 8:35know, I really want to like make it clear how I feel about this,
- 8:41because I am a huge perfectionist, right, And so I am in
- 8:50the process still of making gifts for my friends to send to them. I'm
- 8:54gonna be giving it as a Palatine's Date present, but they were meant initially
- 9:00to be Christmas and it was just like super not gonna happen. So I've
- 9:03been working on stuff and have been obsessing over whether things are adequate for gift
- 9:11giving, and I have kind of lost sight of the fact that, like,
- 9:16when I get a gift that's handmade by somebody, the last thing that
- 9:24I am looking at is whether or not they did an amazing, perfect job
- 9:28with it. And it's so it's such a difficult thing for me to apply
- 9:33to myself. I know, if I send my friends these like handmade things,
- 9:37they're not gonna be like, oh my god, do you see that
- 9:39she's like left some air bubbles in this resin that's so embarrassing, Like they're
- 9:43never even gonna notice, never mind criticize it. But I have this ridiculous
- 9:52standard in my head that I feel like I need to reach. And I
- 9:56get gifts that are handmade from friends. My excuse me, my mother hand
- 10:03made me a scarf. I've gotten gorgeous handmade things. When I was covering
- 10:07Harry Potter with Rashan, I had a listener hand make me a flower like
- 10:13a rose bouquet with every pedal made from a like paper, from a page
- 10:20of Harry Potter and paint and it was gorgeous. It was so beautiful,
- 10:26so stunning. Another listener made me this giant crochet blanket that I use all
- 10:31the time that Pippin loves. I know for a fact that these things I
- 10:37could look at and find like, oh, this was not done correctly.
- 10:41Have I done that? No? But I love them anyway. You know,
- 10:48Cam has made me a number of things and they're just precious because somebody
- 10:52took time and thought of me and made this with their hands. And it's
- 10:56not like buying a gift isn't meaningful as well, but it's just different when
- 11:01somebody has got like a craft that they decide that they're going to put that
- 11:03time into. So I really love the fact that it's not just that this
- 11:09is a hat somebody gave him, is a hat that was specifically made for
- 11:13him, and we find out that this hat it was the third try.
- 11:20Ace tried two times and he attempted and kept burning it up, which is
- 11:31hilarious the fact that he just is somebody who uses fire and apparently didn't exactly
- 11:37know how to turn it off and so kept lighting his old project on fire.
- 11:43Can you imagine anybody who's done like knitting or sewing or any kind of
- 11:46craft, if you had a like an ability that made it so that you
- 11:50might accidentally just send your project up in flames? How much would you just
- 11:56want to stab somebody in the throat every time? Kill me? It's hard
- 12:01enough when I've got something to show for it, never mind when it's when
- 12:05I don't. So Ace eventually does make him this hat, and it's really
- 12:13big. It's funny though, because like the show makes it like, oh,
- 12:16he doesn't get wet or doesn't get snow on him when he's wearing this
- 12:20hat, even though he is so huge, there's definitely snow all over him.
- 12:24His whole body doesn't fit under the hat. He's way too big for
- 12:28that. But it doesn't matter. The thing is that Ores is just delighted
- 12:33with it. Every time that they like ask him about it, he has
- 12:37to say it in like a little rymy way, and it's very very cute.
- 12:43It's clear that like the fact that somebody took interest and made this expressly
- 12:46for him just means a lot to him. And it does get me thinking,
- 12:52and you know, this is just my mind doing the things that it
- 12:56does, where it just spins out into complete tangent areas. Where did Oors
- 13:03get his clothes from? Who made him his pants and stuff? Where did
- 13:09he get him like was there did Ores have like a mommy who made him
- 13:13stuff? And he just like left home and he's only ever had this one
- 13:18pair of pants? How how did do they find clothing? Or you know
- 13:26what I'm saying, It would be really really funny if we got like a
- 13:31zoom in on his outfit and you saw that it was like patched together from
- 13:35like seven hundred pairs of pants that he had sewn together to make fit him.
- 13:41So anyway, this whole thing is uh like for the most part this
- 13:48episode, and there are other side things that I will get to, is
- 13:54about Oors making his way toward Ace. He is so determined to get there,
- 14:01and I think the plan is He's just gonna reach out, grab Ace,
- 14:05pick him up, and like rip the chains out of the wall and
- 14:09then take off and go back to the ship and just put ace like on
- 14:13the deck of the ship and they're gonna leave. I think that was all
- 14:16he had planned, which, frankly, if you're that big, yeah,
- 14:20I guess you can just do it that way. But he's coming through and
- 14:26like everybody is unleashing on him. But this was the thing that kind of
- 14:33like bugged me a little bit was that there are all of these warlords that
- 14:41we know are capable of truly next level basically continent shifting shit, and none
- 14:52of them does anything to stop Oars until he is like there already. And
- 15:00so we've got all of these like soldiers who are just like, how are
- 15:03we supposed to fight him? And I'm like, I really don't think you
- 15:07are supposed to fight him. Your guys, your bosses are supposed to fight
- 15:11him. What are they throwing you out there for? This isn't gonna do
- 15:13anything. You're not even big enough to like, like the swords as they're
- 15:18trying to wield, it's like a toothpick, you know, and sure enough
- 15:22toothpicks. It's gonna be very annoying and painful, but that's never gonna kill
- 15:26me unless you manage to get them up in my eye sockets or something,
- 15:31So what the fuck dudes step up and they just like sit back and watch,
- 15:37and I'm like, I happen to know that you've got people out here
- 15:39who can one freeze the entire ocean, to swing a sword from shoreline and
- 15:46cut an entire ship in half. There's like all kinds of powers out there,
- 15:50and none of you guys is lifting a finger. Why is that?
- 15:54And it's just really to like draw out the tension of everything and make it
- 16:00so that he's right there and almost at his goal when it all happens.
- 16:06And there is a part of me that is really side eyeing that when I
- 16:10said in my intro, like oda, who hurt you? It's just as
- 16:12much for the fact that like this was sad as it is that this was
- 16:17kind of manipulative. I have not met baby Ors ever. You know,
- 16:22we get him at the very end of the last episode, introduced as this
- 16:26dude who's like showing up out of nowhere, and then in this episode we
- 16:30get the whole sad backstory. And this is for me one of those sort
- 16:37of like unforgivable sins. An episode of a television show that introduces a character
- 16:45gives you their backstory to make you care and then immediately kills them if he's
- 16:51actually dead, which he may not be, because that doesn't seem to happen
- 16:53in the show, but I don't know. He seemed pretty dead and the
- 17:00only reason for us getting the backstory is so that they can like pull your
- 17:03heart strings with this death. And it works like better here than it works
- 17:08in the shows that I think of as like the primary what's the word offenders.
- 17:15Every single time that I bring up this trope, I will mention walking
- 17:22dead. It's just absolutely theirm O. I don't know if in later seasons
- 17:26it stayed as bad as it was initially, but in that show, it
- 17:33wasn't necessarily that the character would have been introduced in the same episode. Oftentimes
- 17:37you would have had a character that was around but very tertiary, like had
- 17:42two lines per episode max, and then all of a sudden, you'd get
- 17:48an episode where they would have a lot more lines, and you would get
- 17:52like a flashback to what their life was like before the zombie apocalypse, and
- 17:56you would see them do something really heroic and really fucking being crude to the
- 18:00group all of a sudden, and any time that you started to see these
- 18:04things. It was an immediate giveaway, Oh he gonna die. He did,
- 18:10That's what's happening. All they're doing is trying to like add this pathos
- 18:15to this death in the laziest possible way, where it's just you took no
- 18:22time to make us care about this person for like a full season that they
- 18:27were with us, and now all of a sudden, you want to try
- 18:32and put all of that character development in one episode and then kill him like
- 18:37before that's even set in. Come on, they were the worst offenders with
- 18:42that. I won't try and say that this is as bad, because honestly
- 18:48it's not as bad. The writers of Walking Dead could learn something from one
- 18:52piece, but it did kind of feel to me like there was a lot
- 18:56that could have been done to handle baby ors further out, and we just
- 19:00didn't do that because drama. We just need the drama, and nobody's reacting
- 19:04the way they ordinarily would or should. And it's a really tricky thing because
- 19:11you've got characters that can be really smart sometimes enemies who are they are good
- 19:18at predicting what the their opposition is going to do, and they have things
- 19:23like somewhat just enough in hand to make it feel like they're actually making an
- 19:26effort. You've got to balance that with them doing things that really make no
- 19:33sense at all. And to a degree, that's what we're getting in this
- 19:41arc right now. The and his lobby Wait no impel down arc is less
- 19:53that because the ways in which they're like working through this prison have never been
- 19:59done before. And I'm not I think that, like this kind of attack
- 20:03on the Marines has never been attempted either, so this may be new,
- 20:07but like there is a point at which, uh, what is it Sengoku's
- 20:12is that the name of the guy with the the seagulls on the sides of
- 20:18his hat. There's a point when all of the ships come up from underwater
- 20:22and he literally says, why didn't we plan for this? And it just
- 20:26really felt like Oda trying to be like, look, look, look,
- 20:29I know that they should have known, and y'all are going to ask why
- 20:33they didn't, and I've got to address it. They just didn't think of
- 20:37it, Okay. It felt like the sort of thing where he knows if
- 20:41I'm writing this with them actually being intelligent, they would have had people underwater
- 20:45keeping an eye out. They would have figured out a way to do that.
- 20:48You know, I'm sorry, David says. There's a character who was
- 20:53introduced in thriller Bark who alluded to someone who won't show up for dot dot
- 20:59Dot soul. I won't say who on either end, only that you missed
- 21:03them. Oh really I missed them? Wait that I missed them, like,
- 21:14oh I miss that guy, or I missed them like they were on
- 21:17screen and I didn't see. I'm not sure which one you mean. I
- 21:19think you mean the first one. I took it as the second one initially,
- 21:22but Sengoku is Seagull's sphear hair. Okay, cool, thank you.
- 21:30So anyway, getting back to the thing, because you know, I've been
- 21:36talking a while about like some of the holes with this. All that said,
- 21:40though, it still was really effective and it's so pitiful as things really
- 21:47begin to fall apart for poor Oars. How he keeps saying, don't worry
- 21:51Ace, I'm coming, I'm coming, I'm almost there, I'm here.
- 21:55And I was just like, oh, this is really sad and painful,
- 21:57Like the child like quality of the way he talks really lays it on,
- 22:03and there's just a sense overall of pathos and the first person to go at
- 22:10him is fucking uh do Flamingo said his name? And this dude I have
- 22:18had just about enough of his fucking monologuing. Like he this dude is out
- 22:30here talking about how like we stand on the full crumb of history and the
- 22:41basically long story short history is written by the victors. Like this dude needs
- 22:48to stop it. Okay, he is giving Joe Rogan, he is giving
- 22:55like YouTube bro guru that like isn't actually saying anything that deep or new,
- 23:03but he words in just such a way that people who are not very smart
- 23:08think he is. And there is nothing more infuriating than a person who seems
- 23:15smart to stupid people. It's just agonizing and the whole way that he's just
- 23:22got this smugness about him. I really hate this man truly like thumbs down,
- 23:27do not like. And he won't stop talking. He just keeps like
- 23:32fucking with his little commentary throughout the fighting and everything. Give it a rest,
- 23:37sir. Somebody turned his microphone off. Okay, he doesn't need airtime,
- 23:45I don't want, like, just fast forward through his ads, do
- 23:48not click subscribe, and do not give him a thumbs up. He has
- 23:52too much ego already. We don't need to be encouraging any of this.
- 23:56I mean, just the kind of dude that he would pull people on for
- 24:02interviews and just ask them the most like esoteric questions that don't really even have
- 24:07an answer, not because he gives a shit about the person he's interviewing and
- 24:11what they have to say, but because he wants to show off like his
- 24:15own intellect and answer his own question with an equally vague and meaningless answer.
- 24:19By the way, I can't with this dude. He just kept pushing my
- 24:26buttons. There's just he's just this type, you know. And I don't
- 24:30think I really like realized this about him because we haven't seen him in a
- 24:33prolonged situation. Really. There's been like like one whom he very first met
- 24:40him, where it was a big meeting of all these other dudes and they
- 24:44were very intolerant of his bullshit. But it's different when he's around people who
- 24:48aren't really peers. It's even worse, you know. I can see why
- 24:52everybody else is just like this guy. Can we fucking get back to the
- 24:57meeting? Please? Oh my god. Every time David says Dophie has the
- 25:06drippiest drip and then wrote, so, so Doe Flamingo is Andrew Tay Okay,
- 25:11I'm not gonna go that far, Oh Florine, Yes, I do
- 25:15see the link. Thank you for that. I I clicked on it and
- 25:18it said that I don't have access. I think it might I requested access.
- 25:22I think it's because I am signed in under a different account from Google.
- 25:27Apologies, but it is working like it's I was able to click it,
- 25:33So thank you, and I'm gonna save it. Uh but yeah,
- 25:36do Flamingo is Andrew? Like Andrew Tait's a literal sex trafficker. I wouldn't
- 25:40put it that far. I don't know, though, because we do have
- 25:42fucking straight up like slavery, We do have human trafficking in this show.
- 25:48So what do I know? Maybe that's Do Flamingo's whole jam. Maybe he
- 25:52makes a bunch of money that way. So sure, anybody listening, I
- 25:56really hope that you know already this is an Andrew hate it count like I'm
- 26:03never I don't want to hear it. If there's anyone listening who's like,
- 26:07well, you know, Andrew Tada, Actually they're planning to write a fucking
- 26:11email, don't bother, please not with the YouTube comments. I hate that
- 26:18man and he is trash and deserves to burn in hell for eternity, and
- 26:23I stand by that and I will never change my mind. I don't think
- 26:26there's a thing you could tell me about him that would ever make me go,
- 26:30oh, I had it all wrong. Nope, that's it. That's
- 26:32that. No problem, Floria, don't worry about it. I will will,
- 26:37We'll figure it out. But anyway, so yeah, this dude,
- 26:41ugh, he cuts off Baby Ors's leg like and the thing about it again
- 26:52is that Baby Ores has to be written with this like childlike cadence and understanding.
- 27:02And so you just hear him go ouch my foot in the most like
- 27:08it's it's you don't see what's happened yet when he says that, And so
- 27:15it doesn't hit until you see that his leg is ending in a stump that
- 27:18you're like, oh my god, Like that's not his foot, that's his
- 27:23whole like knees down and he begins to just teeter forward. Now, of
- 27:32course, is this enough to stop him. It is not. He is
- 27:37still pulling himself forward, reaching for ace. There is a whole lot I
- 27:42really wonder about this with the voice actors, like do they how how much
- 27:47of this do they actually do and how much of it is like, Oh,
- 27:51we just have like a soundboard full of like whimpering, groaning, agonized
- 27:57sounds that we just cut in when we need them. Because if they have
- 28:00to do this every time for every episode, I feel like that must get
- 28:07old so fast because it's just for most of these episodes, all Ace is
- 28:14doing is either saying no, oors stop and don't and then in between that
- 28:23he's going, oh, and that must really be tiresome to record and just
- 28:37making sure that all the sounds you're making last for enough time, and you
- 28:42know, like it just it must be very difficult as a voice actor.
- 28:48So we get a lot of that interspersed with oars attempting to continue like walking
- 28:55forward all of all of these like Marines, like the Vanilla Marines, not
- 29:00the ones with like real powers or anything. They are really not getting out
- 29:04of the way adequately. They're just sort of watching this guy coming at them
- 29:10and like they're assuming, I guess that he's not gonna get there in time
- 29:15to crush them, that he's gonna fall along before he reaches where they are.
- 29:18But they're like trusting way too much in that, considering the resilience that
- 29:22this dude has been shown to have already. And so they're just like watching
- 29:26him come near them, and then as he begins to like top over,
- 29:30they're yelling and running and I'm like, yeah, you really should have You
- 29:34should have made room. That should have been the first thing you did.
- 29:37Whatever happens, you're hoping this guy gets taken down. If he gets taken
- 29:42down, which down do you think he's going in? You don't think he's
- 29:47gonna try and fall in your direction on purpose, because it's like the least
- 29:51he could do. And that's like literally what he's saying as he's falling is
- 29:56like, well, if I can't save, the least I can do is
- 29:59take out when of the warlords. So he's out here fucking focused. This
- 30:03ores has a mission and he's gonna stick to it. And he's falling,
- 30:08and as this is like all happening, and he's still struggling, half falling,
- 30:12half pulling and like crawling himself forward, fucking Moriam is over here,
- 30:18like I can't believe this dough fucking flamingo cut the leg off my baby,
- 30:30that asshole, like It's like, it's like the sort of thing where I'm
- 30:37trying to get a certain stuffed animal at a carnival and I'm saying, like,
- 30:42oh, I want that one specifically, and then the game is that
- 30:47you have to like shoot an arrow into a stuffed animal and you shoot it
- 30:51into the one that I specifically said I wanted. Why are you like this?
- 30:56Oh my god? Now I'm fully on do Flamingo's side in that I
- 31:03don't give a shit about your little fucking like campuppet collection, sir. I
- 31:07am not interested in contributing to your bizarre fetish shit. That's your business.
- 31:14You figure it out. You need to supply up, go do that on
- 31:18your own time. We have a warrior fighting. This man was about to
- 31:21like eat half our troops. Probably, I am doing what I need to
- 31:26do. And the fact that you're throwing a little tantrum that I put a
- 31:30hole in your jacket and now you need to patch it up. I'm so
- 31:36sorry to interrupt your planning ahead for playtime with an actual battle. Wow.
- 31:42Yeah, how could I do that to you? So anyway, this point,
- 31:51Maria unleashes an attack. I don't remember having seen this before. I
- 31:56may be just forgetting. Have we seen this shadow lizard. It's like shadow
- 32:02spiky lizard or something like that, And it's basically like a blade of darkness.
- 32:10That is, it's like a tiny little lizard made of shadow on the
- 32:20but it's like tail. You could either say as like its tail is huge,
- 32:27or it's like impaled on the end of a very very large blade.
- 32:30I don't know which one you'd want to go with, but I'm sorry,
- 32:35guys. If you can hear my cat, she's really needy. But this
- 32:38thing, it's tipped with the lizard. So, like Maria shoots this darkness
- 32:46up through the bottom of Ores's chin, like his throat. What do you
- 32:52call this part between your actual chin and your throat? What is that the
- 32:59base of your skull? Oh? No, that's back here. I don't
- 33:01even know what you call this exactly, but anyway, it goes up through
- 33:06that like soft tissue and out the top of his head. And he's still
- 33:09talking, by the way, as this is all happening to him, so
- 33:15it doesn't instantly kill him. But there is a point where his eyes go
- 33:24white and lifeless, and it really seems like he's actually dead. I have
- 33:30a hard time believing that the only reason that I would say he could actually
- 33:38be dead is because he's not technically human, and it seems like those are
- 33:44the characters that it is okay with killing mostly. He is okay with like
- 33:49the non humans dying mostly, And that's the only reason that I might be
- 33:54like, maybe he is dead, but I just I don't know. I
- 33:59kind of feel like he might make it out the other side because we've seen
- 34:01the eyes go white like this, and I've thought people were dead dead and
- 34:05it turned out they were not. But it doesn't really matter. It's like
- 34:09that and game isn't the point. What we're focused on here is the impact
- 34:14of it, and everybody, like who knows ors just being devastated because he
- 34:21is a sweety pie and the fact that he just refused to concede no matter
- 34:28what was being done. He's still coming at them, he's still heading for
- 34:31ace and he's still gonna do what he can. And it's a sacrifice,
- 34:37you know, And it's kind of like a fucked up thing, but like
- 34:40a nice thing that later on, when white Beard is yelling for everybody to
- 34:45like go over like run over his body, you could see it. It's
- 34:49like he's telling the crew to literally like walk all over his dead corpse.
- 34:53But you know for a fact that if Or's spirit was standing there tell them
- 35:00what to do, he'd be like, oh yeah, please perfect. At
- 35:01least I can be of service. I'm a great bridge. Awesome, I'm
- 35:07glad I could do something. You know. I feel like he would be
- 35:09one hundred percent down without no problem with it whatsoever. In fact, I
- 35:13would be surprised if he had not served as an actual bridge to his friends
- 35:17in life. You know, they come to an island and there's a gorge
- 35:22that they need to cross, and he just like steps down into it and
- 35:25like you know, bends and lets them walk over his shoulders. Like I
- 35:30feel like that's something that he probably has done. So this is how the
- 35:36Whitebeard crew really gets into the mix. Like on the land, I don't
- 35:42know if you call it land, because it's like it's been sort of a
- 35:45weird thing with the last few locations that we have come to, from ns
- 35:52Lobby to Impel down now to this, like particular, we've been to a
- 35:58marine headquarters, but this is a different level of one. I don't know,
- 36:02is this just called World Government headquarters or is there another name? For
- 36:07this spot. I don't. I'm sorry guys if I missed something, but
- 36:12it's sort of a weird thing where the buildings are the islands themselves, like
- 36:22there is almost no land around the buildings. They're not like built on islands.
- 36:28It really feels like if there's an island there, it was put in
- 36:31place for a building to be built on it. It doesn't feel like the
- 36:36buildings were like the second thing. They were the first idea. And so
- 36:43I keep being like a little bit weird about how I talk about the location
- 36:50because I'm saying, you know, when they reach land, and they haven't
- 36:52exactly reached like land, but they have. It's a stationary thing. So
- 37:00I guess that's adequate. But I don't know if they're kind of considered almost
- 37:04like megaships of their own, like city ships something like that. Oh,
- 37:14Florian says it's called Marine Ford and it is their main base, their HQ.
- 37:20Okay, David, thank you for seeing the duality of dofie dofie.
- 37:25I don't know why, but that's really funny. But anyway, that's you
- 37:32know, how they managed to really get onto the main battlefield. And I'm
- 37:39going to back up a little bit here because there's a whole thing with Kobe.
- 37:47What are we doing with this? I'm sure it's going to pay off,
- 37:52you know, I'm trust that. But from where I'm standing right now,
- 38:00this is the weirdest little offshoot. I feel like there's probably been other
- 38:06times, but they're escaping my notice when but there's there's probably been, but
- 38:14I don't feel like it's happened very often where somebody who is such a little
- 38:20side character, we just like check in with them and they're doing essentially nothing.
- 38:25Every single time that we wind up checking in with Kobe, he's freaking
- 38:31out because he feels helpless and can't do anything, and like the only things
- 38:37that change are one what's making him feel helpless and like he can't do anything.
- 38:43Sometimes it's just his own self doubt, it's seeing some other pair fighting,
- 38:46or you know, he comes across this like fucking weirdo who kills one
- 38:50of his own men because he says that if the guy's running minutes, better
- 38:53for him to die than shame his family kind of thing, And I I
- 39:00don't know where he has the very anime moment where he's told you can't do
- 39:10anything, You've got to stay behind and stay out of the fucking way,
- 39:15and he like punches the ground while crying angrily. I love this, by
- 39:20the way, like it is such an anime trope. I I'm sure that
- 39:25it's also done in live action, But when I imagine this move I am
- 39:30imagining several different scenes I think from full Middle Alchemist Brotherhood. So anyway,
- 39:44the whole deal with Kobe is him and hel Mepo and the two of them
- 39:52like trying to simultaneously get out of the way and find anything that they can
- 39:59do. There's a couple of stops within there where they talk about how Loofy
- 40:05is so selfless and like, you know what he is willing to give up,
- 40:08and just being in general impressed with him. But uh, there's not
- 40:14a lot of forward movement with Kobe. And you know, I don't even
- 40:20really want to say that I don't like it because I am trusting that it
- 40:24will pay off and we don't spend too terribly much time with him. It's
- 40:29not that bad, but it is just sort of like, I feel like
- 40:32this could have been done a different way. Florian says, Yeah, the
- 40:37Kobe thing is weird. I look for looking forward to hearing what you think
- 40:40of it all right, Well, I'm looking forward to telling you. There's
- 40:45nothing sexier to me than someone being like I'm really excited to hear your opinion.
- 40:51That's why I have the job that I have. It's the best.
- 40:54Okay, So talked about Kobe, talked about oars uh, and I guess
- 41:01let's talk about Garp. Here. Garp is in this weird position where he
- 41:07I know, can you just yeah, see, I shouldn't have even engaged
- 41:13now she won't stop. Garp is remembering going to pick Ace up, and
- 41:21it's really sweet, like he reacts to picking up as for the first time,
- 41:25as if he is his own son. There's a real like sentimental look
- 41:29in his eye, and it's just like all hearts and everything around him.
- 41:32It's just really adorable. And David says, I think your cat has opinions
- 41:37on Garp. Hey, ripley, Yeah, do you like Garb or no?
- 41:44Now, if you like Garb? She shut up when I said that.
- 41:51She stopped. Oh my god, she does have opinions about Garb.
- 41:54I'm gonna have to bring you on as a guest later anyway, But he
- 42:01has Garb and we kind of like, I don't remember I don't think we
- 42:06ever see the circumstances under which he picks loofy up, do we. So
- 42:12we've got that still as sort of a mystery. We just know that eventually
- 42:15Lufy is like brought home to be with him, and well, I say
- 42:20home at that point, they're not living with Garb anymore because they've been sent
- 42:22somewhere else. I don't remember if it's at this point that like Garp has
- 42:28gotten too many promotions and they're going to find that his kids are suspect or
- 42:34what. But it was really making something like in the In the live action,
- 42:43mild spoilers for that, but there are some scenes where you see Garp
- 42:49raising Lufy and Ace. I don't think you meet Ace though I think he's
- 42:54suggested, but I don't know if you do you see him, I don't
- 42:59think so, but you see him at least raising Lufy and being really pissed
- 43:08that Lufy wants to become a pirate. And by the time I watched the
- 43:14live action, I had not gotten to like this stuff yet, so I
- 43:19wasn't even like totally aware how much raising he did that there. You know,
- 43:24they had enough time together for there to be this kind of scene between
- 43:28them. But even if I knew that, I was quite taken aback at
- 43:34how vehement he was right from the beginning at Loofy not becoming a pirate,
- 43:38like the way that the type of anger he showed in that scene fell out
- 43:44of proportion to just being like, but pirates are bad, you don't want
- 43:47to do that, And it wasn't like I was actually still willing to accept
- 43:52it. It felt out of proportion, but it felt appropriate for the tone
- 43:57of the show, with how much like stuff is over the top, So
- 44:00I didn't really question it very much. But now realizing who his father and
- 44:07Ace's father are and the whole way that they went down, and how much
- 44:13he's been trying to like honor the promises he's made by raising these kids in
- 44:17like a decent way, and now they may just go down the exact same
- 44:22road. Yeah, that would be very scary and like a fulfillment of your
- 44:28worst case scenario. So I understand a lot better now why he was having
- 44:31the reaction that he was having in that scene. So the there's an eventual
- 44:39moment when Garthlake connects with Ace again. He like goes up onto the platform
- 44:46and we wind up finding out that basically, like the Marines have decided,
- 44:51well, all hell has broken loose. We are not sticking to the plan
- 44:55we had like hours before we were going to execute him. Why would we
- 45:00wait until then? Now, like, we'll just go ahead and do it.
- 45:05And Garp goes to see Ace and just say his goodbyes, and he
- 45:15you know, there's a real sense of like affection coming from Ace. He
- 45:22just he feels like. I wouldn't say that he regrets what he's done,
- 45:30because like he doesn't, Ace, if he knew where he wound up,
- 45:34would do all of this shit over again exactly the same way. Is there
- 45:38any doubt in anybody's mind? Like, come on, of course. So
- 45:44I'm not trying to say like he regrets what he's done. I think he
- 45:47is just regretting putting someone he really does actually care about through this. He's
- 45:53certainly got his issues with Garp. They're a complicated relationship for sure, But
- 46:00I don't I think that Ace is soft hearted enough at this point, especially
- 46:05after seeing what so many people are willing to sacrifice for him, that it
- 46:12is meaning a lot to have everyone here rooting for him, and even the
- 46:19person who shouldn't be rooting for him, is admitting like this sucks. I
- 46:22really wish like there was another way, you know, And a part of
- 46:27me is like, is garb up there because he's gonna try and help at
- 46:30the last second, to like help Ace make a break for it. Is
- 46:34he gonna betray the Marines? I I wouldn't hate that, you know,
- 46:40Like I'm not I don't really really totally want that, because there is something
- 46:45interesting about the conflict of interest in having a man on the inside. But
- 46:51maybe we've just gone as far as we can with that, and maybe he's
- 46:54like a part of the plot and that I'm one hundred percent here for just
- 47:00like for the record, And meanwhile, fucking sing Goku is over here,
- 47:07like, oh, you have the gall to expect sympathy from me. No,
- 47:17nobody thought that you weren't part of this, dude, they were having
- 47:22a moment. It's not about you, and you're weird voy your shit.
- 47:29Why do you need to be a part of this like intimate family. The
- 47:31guy's about to die. Sh sh stop it gross. He makes me so
- 47:39mad. I do not like him. His whole energy. It's like it's
- 47:45really giving, like Percy Weasley, like a tough, Percy Weasley like a
- 47:50badass, but also fuck you, yeah, teacher's pet being ass bitch.
- 48:00And so that's my assessment today of send Goku and do Flamingo. So there
- 48:05you go. David says, send Goku is there to make sure Garp doesn't
- 48:10spring a set of jail. I'm sure he is. I don't like him
- 48:15inserting himself into the conversation. Garp wasn't they were just talking. Garp wasn't
- 48:22even like reaching down to take his hand in a suspicious manner. Just observe
- 48:29and don't involve yourself in the conversation, say anything. Let it be,
- 48:35have a little mercy. But I think it's clear that it is not a
- 48:40man who really gives a shit about that kind of thing. So, oh
- 48:46my god, you guys, the there's like a sort of like glacier.
- 48:53I guess you want to say iceberg that is blocking other ships from getting through
- 48:59to the mainland, so to speak. And we see a ship captained by
- 49:07Whitey Bay, a dope ass looking pirate captains. I'm just gonna call her
- 49:15a pirate captain. I do like Captain s even though I know adding s
- 49:20or et to the end of words to feminize them can feel really like diminutizing
- 49:25almost. I don't really feel that way. I think they sound really cool
- 49:30with that, like talking about a murder. S. I'm sorry, that
- 49:34just sounds cool as hell. So I don't have a problem with it.
- 49:37And I want to make it clear when I call her a captain s.
- 49:40Even though I am certain that word is not real, I mean it with
- 49:44the utmost respect. I love it and her outfit beauty. I'm like the
- 49:50whole like ice colors. She's got like all like Pastelle purple and green and
- 49:54blue and white, and it just looks so awesome. I love this outfit,
- 50:00and I really am worried that we're like not going to get to see
- 50:04very much of her. I want her to be more of a thing.
- 50:07This is the tricky thing for me as a woman watching this show is that
- 50:10there's always like a woman. There's thirteen dudes and a woman, and every
- 50:16time so far, the woman's been the weak link. Like it's kind of
- 50:22sucked. So I really want a female pirate captain to be the main event
- 50:34in some arc like pretty significant. You know. I don't know how that
- 50:37would work, but and I just even like Alvida. She wound up kind
- 50:47of being like the second hand to Buggy for most of the show. She
- 50:53starts off with her own thing going on, and then she winds up like
- 50:59whatever happens with like her ship or and so she has like teamed up with
- 51:04someone and then that's how she stays until right before impel Down, where we
- 51:12see her like I think she just basically like steals Buggy's crew if I'm not
- 51:17mistaken, and it's just like, who the fuck's gonna check me? And
- 51:22now I'm like hoping that she does get back to her own thing. I
- 51:25just want to I miss that Heartship so fucking much. I think about that
- 51:31ship every time I think of the show. That's the first image that pops
- 51:35into my mind because it made such an impression when I was watching the first
- 51:38episode and had no idea what was going on, and I saw that ship
- 51:43and I was like, Okay, I'm in here, we go, let's
- 51:45do this. Like that was the thing that convinced me. So having it
- 51:50just be over that fast is still very heartbreaking, and I just, you
- 51:55know, we could have do a new version of it, but I want
- 51:58it back. I just loved it and still thinking I'm going to go as
- 52:02her for Halloween this year, now that I've seen the show and everything,
- 52:07That's going to be a very simple, easy causeplay immediately recognizable, and Owen
- 52:15can go as another character, which we could do a whole lot with that.
- 52:20Suggestions, please to those who know what Owen looks like to tell me
- 52:22which one piece character he should cause play as. He could be a pretty
- 52:28good Garb if you put gray in his hair. I don't Garb could get
- 52:32it, So maybe we could just do a hot Garp anyway, Okay,
- 52:38I feel like I actually, in my weird around the bush way of doing
- 52:45this, talked about pretty much everything. Oh, no, last thing of
- 52:52course, Loofy's crew and how they fell from the sky. This is one
- 53:02of my favorite uses of the like voiceover narrator that they've ever done. Mostly
- 53:12he just like says things in such a way that it's informative, but it's
- 53:16not like engaging with the audience. I really love whenever there's a moment of
- 53:23like in this one, like so you might be wondering why Lufy and his
- 53:29friends are falling from the sky, and then later on, after the whole
- 53:34story is laid out, about what happened. It ends with him going So
- 53:37that is why Lufy and his friends are falling from the sky and it cracked
- 53:44me up. I loved it. But anyway, so what happens is when
- 53:50they do the tsunami thing, their ship gets pulled back, but there's like
- 53:54a wave that's been frozen in place, and so they get pulled up to
- 53:59the top and stuck on like the icy top, and Loofy is determined to
- 54:07shift the ship so that they can fall down the other side. And there
- 54:15I can't remember like the plane and how it was supposed to go, But
- 54:19long story short, he breaks the side of the wave that's like in the
- 54:24wrong direction, and it basically sends them careening through the sky. So that's
- 54:30the point when like how Mepo and Kobe look up and they're like, wow,
- 54:36he's uh, he's really coming in Okay. It's like he's in mid
- 54:40air. Everybody's yelling, and he says to himself, I'm gonna be fine.
- 54:45I'm made of rubber, and mister three is like, oh my god,
- 54:50how about the rest of us, you selfish asshole? What the fuck
- 54:52are you? What the fuck is your plan for us? This was not
- 54:55how I thought I was gonna die. And I did find that funny because
- 55:00like, Lufy can be very self absorbed in a different way, but when
- 55:05it's everyone's like safety, that doesn't usually feel like a thing that completely like
- 55:10doesn't cross his mind at all. So I did enjoy this guy being like,
- 55:15Wow, fuck you too, my friend. I love to when we
- 55:22jump from like different people and their reactions to everything. Mihawk is just like,
- 55:28oh god, this kid is such a pain in the ass every time
- 55:32with this guy. And then we get boy Hancock who's like, oh,
- 55:37lufhy, I'm so glad you're okay, and it's just like, okay,
- 55:42can kind of over that Smokey Smoky, Oh my god, I'm so sorry.
- 55:51Smoker is wondering what Lufy and Crocodile are like paired up, like how
- 55:55what they're doing together, And it turns out that Crocodile is out here to
- 56:02kill white Beard, and I thought that he would like work his way up
- 56:07to doing that once this immediate issue is taken care of, because that feels
- 56:13like for him as well, the better way to handle the situation killing white
- 56:21Beard when you're in the midst of a very clear US versus them situation in
- 56:28which the US right now is mostly gathered behind his standard and is winning for
- 56:37I'm gonna say that that seems what it's like right now. Why would you
- 56:42kill the guy in charge? Now? That feels foolish and like it might
- 56:47just be an opportunistic thing because he says like you should have kept your guard
- 56:52up, But it really felt like the plan. It felt like he was
- 56:55totally intending. The instant that he got anywhere near white Beard, that was
- 57:00it. He was just gonna go for it. And I'm just like,
- 57:04do you know what's gonna happen when everybody who's like on your side right now
- 57:07thinks you've killed their captain and you're fucking still standing there. You don't think
- 57:13they're just gonna like completely body slam you and take you down. I mean,
- 57:17I guess he must just be that confident that there's not gonna be a
- 57:22way for them to take him down. But it just felt like really really
- 57:25shortsighted. Just wait until you've gotten out of here, my guy, and
- 57:30he thinks you're more of a an ally, and then do it, you
- 57:35know, gain his trust and then the stab him in the back. What
- 57:37the fuck. I thought we all knew how this goes, so let's see.
- 57:45Just making sure that I've gotten everything. I just again really enjoy everybody's
- 57:50reactions. There's a moment when when Gecko Moria screaches is that straw and I
- 58:02fell out because everybody else is like, well aware Lufy's still out there in
- 58:09the mix, like everybody else has like seen or had run ins with him,
- 58:14but like Maria is the most recent that was a like non government official,
- 58:22big bad. So I just imagined it as like Maria got pulled to
- 58:28this meeting where all the head honchos are, he is not up on his
- 58:32info because he felt confident enough about how things went with Loofy that he was
- 58:37like, well, he didn't make it out of that, even though like
- 58:39you woke up pasted out on the lawn of your busted property and you hadn't
- 58:47gotten the memo about the fact that this kid has been out and about nobody
- 58:52wants to talk about like the break in an impill down. Everybody seems to
- 58:55be very very very silent on that. So I imagine it like he really
- 59:00thought he was done with this kid, and then he just sees him like
- 59:02sailing through the air and is like you fucks, oh my god. And
- 59:08uh, he is government ish. But that's why I said he's like,
- 59:12he's not an official government agent, because everybody since him has been like on
- 59:19the payroll very openly in the uniform. And he's really like the last one
- 59:24that we've dealt with that wasn't part of that crew ever since. Uh,
- 59:30everybody's been like sent in different directions from that island. Lufy's been just on
- 59:38his own fighting impel down and what was the other one and his lobby right
- 59:46or no? And his lobby came before that impel down was after because we
- 59:52had rescued Robin by then, right anyway, But am I wrong about that?
- 59:57I feel like that's the timing anyway. Anyway, Anyway, as my
- 1:00:01cat so desperately is trying to remind me, I really do have to wrap
- 1:00:05up. I do like as well that when Lufy lands and white Beard is
- 1:00:13just like, if you fucking with your nerve get in my way and ruin
- 1:00:17this, I will fuck you up, and Lufy just being like, who
- 1:00:22the fuck are you. I'm gonna do what I want and I'm gonna save
- 1:00:24his ass thanks for nothing, And I just kind of like the fact that
- 1:00:28even though they're on the same side technically they are already kind of annoyed with
- 1:00:31each other. I just like that, So okay, I am going to
- 1:00:37wrap that up. Oh that was only loofy, but yes, you're right,
- 1:00:43Florian, everybody. Florian pointed out the other big bad being Boa,
- 1:00:47who I kind of don't count because there's like the combo of the fact of
- 1:00:52how much she fell in love with Lufy, like right away, but also
- 1:00:55that that was like Lufy's sort of weird side questing all his friends got one
- 1:01:02from where they landed, and he sort of got one too. But that's
- 1:01:07true. So I'm gonna give you that all right, everybody, thank you
- 1:01:09again so much for listening. Really enjoyed these episodes The Weird Show and until
- 1:01:15next time to the Loo motherfuckers. That was an unspoiled Network podcast.
