- 1:17Speaker 4: Legendary coach.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Look at that Asian guy who holds the world record
- 1:21Speaker 2: for eating all those hot dogs in a row.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Look at Rue McClanahan.

- 1:41Speaker 1: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:43Speaker 4: I'm Ben.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I'm Dave.
- 1:45Speaker 1: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from Wonderfest.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Would you like to introduce yourselves?
- 1:50Speaker 4: I'm Dave.
- 1:51Speaker 1: In previous episodes, you needed some sort of special introduction.
- 1:54Speaker 4: All I know is I'm in the 20 Timers Club.
- 1:57Speaker 4: I'm wearing my bathrobe. I've got my slippers on.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Put your shoes on, by the way.
- 2:02Speaker 3: We should make a point, though. Two years ago.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Cue the harp music. Oh, it's the anniversary.
- 2:07Speaker 3: It is the anniversary of the time we broke our podcast.
- 2:10Speaker 4: Can you play some harp music?
- 2:11Speaker 1: I would if you were currently holding any sort of record, but... Oh, pretty.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Low blow. Go ahead and tell the story. I don't
- 2:20Speaker 1: know if I can play the harp music without an
- 2:23Speaker 1: actual official. Bam.
- 2:24Speaker 4: It's an anniversary of sorts.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Use a toy piano or something. Come on.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
- 2:29Speaker 4: It's an anniversary of sorts for David and I. We were...
- 2:34Speaker 4: We were part of a trio that was in this podcast.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Paul is dead.
- 2:40Speaker 4: We were in this podcasting game.
- 2:43Speaker 1: You couldn't handle the stress.
- 2:44Speaker 4: And we couldn't handle the stress, so we tried for gimmick.
- 2:48Speaker 4: We did.
- 2:49Speaker 3: We went for the shiny brass ring.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And you made it there.
- 2:54Speaker 4: Brian Redfro, who does, I don't know if you know this,
- 2:56Speaker 4: he's the guy behind movie Meltdown.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Thank God somebody's running this.
- 3:01Speaker 4: He's like a workhorse. He's got... He's got quantity. He's
- 3:04Speaker 4: got a backlog.
- 3:06Speaker 3: He's got staying power.
- 3:08Speaker 4: He's met Marianne from that Gilligan's Island.
- 3:10Speaker 1: That was pretty impressive. I trained my entire life for
- 3:14Speaker 1: that episode.
- 3:14Speaker 4: We were basically aimless.
- 3:17Speaker 3: We were the drifters of the podcast.
- 3:19Speaker 4: We needed a hook. We needed something that would get
- 3:22Speaker 4: people's attention and actually listen to us.
- 3:24Speaker 1: And possibly break the show.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Not possibly.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I think it killed you all. A little inside.
- 3:31Speaker 3: It broke something in us.
- 3:33Speaker 4: About five years in, we had the brilliant idea, let's
- 3:36Speaker 4: I wonder if there's a world record you can break
- 3:38Speaker 4: for podcasting.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Type, type, type, type, type. Yes, there is.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Well, not really, but kind of a loophole.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a webcast is what it was, a
- 3:46Speaker 3: live webcast.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Yeah, and our podcast was called, it never really ended
- 3:51Speaker 4: because we kind of brought it back, but then we
- 3:53Speaker 4: haven't done any because I bought a house and I've
- 3:55Speaker 4: been painting.
- 3:55Speaker 1: It's on hiatus.
- 3:56Speaker 3: It's on hiatus. Wait until you get an internet signal
- 3:59Speaker 3: that we can.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Well, okay, the podcast is called Tower of Technobabble. And
- 4:04Speaker 4: there's three of us. Paul is the third. We're kind
- 4:07Speaker 4: of on a weird little hiatus. Because, you know, I
- 4:11Speaker 4: bought a house and I'm in the middle of caulking.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Dave is writing a book.
- 4:15Speaker 1: He said caulk.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Dave is in the middle of writing a novel. And
- 4:19Speaker 4: Paul actually just released a solo album of music.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Which is really good.
- 4:24Speaker 4: So it's like we've all been kind of busy.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Productive people and or house buyers, whichever.
- 4:28Speaker 4: And so the little podcast has gone by the wayside.
- 4:32Speaker 4: But two years ago, we were at the Wonderfest convention,
- 4:35Speaker 4: just like we are now. And we thought, there's no
- 4:39Speaker 4: world record for podcasting, but the webcast.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a webcast, a live webcast. And it was
- 4:44Speaker 3: 36 hours and some odd minutes. I was like, 36 hours?
- 4:47Speaker 3: We can do that standing on our head.
- 4:49Speaker 1: So you're boasting?
- 4:50Speaker 4: Why don't we make it an even 40? Why don't
- 4:51Speaker 4: we just make it an even 40? Come on.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Come on, let's move that rock a little farther than
- 4:55Speaker 3: we found it.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Let's whip it across the room.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Come on, let's put it out of the realm of
- 5:00Speaker 3: the 39.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Now, I believe at that point you contacted me and
- 5:04Speaker 1: were like, hey, we're doing this thing. Does this seem
- 5:05Speaker 1: like a good idea? And I was like, oh, no. No,
- 5:08Speaker 1: that's not a good idea. You guys, I will support
- 5:12Speaker 1: you in any way that I can except sit there
- 5:15Speaker 1: for 40 hours. Have fun with that.
- 5:17Speaker 3: But the siren song of fame sung to us.
- 5:20Speaker 2: It did.
- 5:21Speaker 4: And, you know, we had visions of the Guinness people
- 5:26Speaker 4: flying in on hour 40, being there to drop balloons
- 5:30Speaker 4: and confetti and shake our hands.
- 5:31Speaker 1: There was a banner that popped up behind you. Laurel
- 5:33Speaker 1: leaves on our head. Look at that banner. Congratulations. It
- 5:38Speaker 1: turns out.
- 5:39Speaker 4: You know, getting a world record, and we did get
- 5:43Speaker 4: the world record. We got it for about a month
- 5:46Speaker 4: and a half. We had the world record.
- 5:48Speaker 3: I've got proof.
- 5:50Speaker 4: We realized that actually getting the world record was the
- 5:52Speaker 4: easy part. It's all the bureaucracy, all the minutia, all
- 5:57Speaker 4: the forms you got to do. We had to have.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Let's see here. He's brought up a photo to prove
- 6:04Speaker 1: said certification.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Not photoshopped whatsoever. Guinness required that we had two witnesses...
- 6:12Speaker 4: Every two hours who were not related to each other
- 6:15Speaker 4: or to us.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I thought it was ridiculous when it was just 40
- 6:18Speaker 1: hours of sitting there talking. But when they brought in
- 6:20Speaker 1: all of that witness bullshit, I was like.
- 6:22Speaker 4: This is ridiculous.
- 6:25Speaker 3: But we were in too far at that point. The
- 6:28Speaker 3: only way out was through.
- 6:29Speaker 4: And Guinness is run by interns. Anytime Paul would try
- 6:33Speaker 4: to contact them. They would never give him a straight
- 6:36Speaker 4: answer or tell him exactly what to do. A couple
- 6:40Speaker 4: days before, we still hadn't gotten the official okay from
- 6:44Speaker 4: Guinness that we could actually try it. But by that point,
- 6:47Speaker 4: we had all this stuff.
- 6:48Speaker 1: You had to have everybody already signed on to witness it.
- 6:51Speaker 4: And it's funny. We had to call on people. that
- 6:54Speaker 4: we hadn't talked to in forever and begged them to
- 6:57Speaker 4: come out.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Hey, who's not related to us.
- 6:59Speaker 1: And I couldn't do it because I'm your mother.
- 7:01Speaker 4: So, but, but we actually did it. It about killed us,
- 7:06Speaker 4: but we actually did it. Um, Paul hasn't been right since.
- 7:10Speaker 4: I mean.
- 7:11Speaker 3: It broke something in Paul.
- 7:12Speaker 1: If you go back to our crossover episode, the photo
- 7:15Speaker 1: that accompanies it is Paul laying on the floor, rolling
- 7:19Speaker 1: around in a stupor of insanity. And yeah, at that point,
- 7:24Speaker 1: I was just... Yeah, I was just trying to document
- 7:28Speaker 1: the evidence at that point so that later we could
- 7:31Speaker 1: show it to the psychiatrists and be like, this is
- 7:33Speaker 1: where it all stopped. This is the last time. He
- 7:36Speaker 1: almost made sense a few minutes before this when we
- 7:38Speaker 1: talked about Star Wars.
- 7:40Speaker 4: I learned that the internet is full of very crappy people. Yeah, duh. Because,
- 7:47Speaker 4: you know. We have proof.
- 7:48Speaker 3: That is the internet.
- 7:49Speaker 4: We basically, like, we actually got the world record and
- 7:53Speaker 4: Guinness believed us.
- 7:55Speaker 1: While I'm holding here, he's showing me the photo. There's
- 7:58Speaker 1: a certificate right here. Yeah. The longest uninterrupted live webcast
- 8:02Speaker 1: is 41 hours and was achieved by that dead Paul guy.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 1: This Dave person over here and this Ben person over here.
- 8:08Speaker 1: All USA.
- 8:09Speaker 6: America.
- 8:10Speaker 4: America.
- 8:11Speaker 1: At Wonderfest convention in Louisville. And some dates when it happens.
- 8:15Speaker 1: So according to this photo I've been shown, enter that
- 8:18Speaker 1: into the evidence. Exhibit C. This is official.
- 8:22Speaker 4: We were officially amazing. And we were on the Guinness website.
- 8:27Speaker 4: We actually had our own page. It had us. It
- 8:31Speaker 4: said what the certificate said. Down in the comments, nothing
- 8:35Speaker 4: but hate. From guys.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Sorry about that, guys.
- 8:40Speaker 4: I mean, you.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Guys are stupid heads.
- 8:43Speaker 4: There were all these guys who had basically been doing online. Oh,
- 8:49Speaker 4: I found it.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I had to Google it.
- 8:50Speaker 4: It was mainly from guys who were doing online gaming
- 8:54Speaker 4: and had webcams set up.
- 8:56Speaker 1: That is not the same thing.
- 8:57Speaker 4: And they were like, I've been on this for like
- 8:59Speaker 4: 100 hours, you know?
- 9:00Speaker 3: That's kind of your problem. Get a life, dude.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I was already making fun of these three guys, but
- 9:05Speaker 1: you guys are lame.
- 9:07Speaker 4: And if those guys had actually contacted us directly and
- 9:09Speaker 4: challenged us on that, we'd say, that's great, but you
- 9:12Speaker 4: didn't have the witnesses. You didn't have all the bureaucracy.
- 9:15Speaker 4: You didn't have all the paperwork. All that crap. They
- 9:18Speaker 4: don't care that you've been on. You have to jump
- 9:20Speaker 4: through Guinness' hoops.
- 9:20Speaker 1: And you weren't entertaining like you guys.
- 9:23Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 9:24Speaker 1: We're reading plays and acting out characters. You're playing with
- 9:28Speaker 1: toys and all kinds of stuff.
- 9:30Speaker 4: You're playing Grand Theft Auto 5.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Yeah, that doesn't count.
- 9:33Speaker 4: If anyone's interested in listening to any of this, all
- 9:35Speaker 4: 40 hours currently reside on our website, toweroftechnobabble.com. Where you
- 9:40Speaker 4: can go through, and for 40 hours, you can hear
- 9:44Speaker 4: the breakdown of our personalities. You can hear us deteriorate.
- 9:46Speaker 1: You can go through and skip those other 39 hours.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Which hour are you on, Brian? There's one hour that
- 9:51Speaker 1: I'm on, and it's pretty fun. That was good.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Hour 39. We did play with a lot of toys.
- 9:56Speaker 1: That was a great hour.
- 9:58Speaker 3: I loved that hour.
- 9:58Speaker 1: We talked about Star Wars, which is unusual for us,
- 10:01Speaker 1: and we probably aren't going to get to it later.
- 10:02Speaker 4: Maybe we should talk about Star Wars during this episode.
- 10:07Speaker 4: We're prone to do. You know what? Okay. This is
- 10:10Speaker 4: the anniversary of our world record winning attempt, and during
- 10:16Speaker 4: the hour that we were talking to you, it Broke
- 10:18Speaker 4: down into Star Wars. I think that in honor, in
- 10:21Speaker 4: memory of our achievement, we should talk about Star Wars
- 10:24Speaker 4: on tonight's show.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Let me get my sack of action figures out for you.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Hold on. Yes. Yeah, yeah, because we did all these gimmicks.
- 10:29Speaker 4: Because basically the only thing I know about are Star
- 10:32Speaker 4: Wars and Doctor Who. And I brought in 40 action
- 10:36Speaker 4: figures in a pillowcase every hour. we would pull out
- 10:41Speaker 4: an action figure and give our memories of that.
- 10:43Speaker 3: I think my favorite part was every time you pulled
- 10:45Speaker 3: one out, you were surprised.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Yes. Every time.
- 10:49Speaker 3: They were his action figures.
- 10:50Speaker 4: The more tired I got, I couldn't remember who I
- 10:54Speaker 4: was going to get, and it was great.
- 10:56Speaker 3: It wasn't that you were so happily surprised.
- 10:58Speaker 4: Like, hey, it's a Jawa.
- 10:59Speaker 3: It's like, well, that's true.
- 11:00Speaker 4: A lot of it is me trying to keep myself awake.
- 11:02Speaker 4: That's true. That's true.
- 11:04Speaker 3: You have to dig deep, and then you break something inside.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Oh, we should finish the.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I was going to say, let's get to the grim
- 11:10Speaker 1: part of the story.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Guinness did not come down, drop confetti, drop balloons. We
- 11:16Speaker 4: basically had to then prove to Guinness that we actually
- 11:19Speaker 4: did this. We had to send them the videotape of
- 11:23Speaker 4: the 40 hours or the MP4 file.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Poor bastard had to watch all that?
- 11:27Speaker 3: What intern got stuck with that?
- 11:30Speaker 4: Well, actually, part of the deal was we had to
- 11:33Speaker 4: be broadcasting live. And we didn't know if there was
- 11:36Speaker 4: someone at Guinness actually tuned into the website listening.
- 11:39Speaker 3: There they are.
- 11:41Speaker 1: And then there's this weird little fine print at the
- 11:43Speaker 1: bottom that says, no member can be rolling down on
- 11:46Speaker 1: the floor in a stupor. This disqualifies the entire event.
- 11:49Speaker 4: For whatever reason, we sent in all of our evidence,
- 11:52Speaker 4: and by that point, we didn't even care anymore.
- 11:55Speaker 3: We had the moral victory.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I was there at the end of it. It was
- 11:58Speaker 1: not really ceremonious at all. It was like, oh, shit,
- 12:01Speaker 1: now we've got to pack all this up.
- 12:03Speaker 4: There was no balloon drop, no one in a car.
- 12:05Speaker 4: No one shook our hands.
- 12:06Speaker 3: It was three zombies going, yay.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think you dinged a bell. It wasn't like, ding,
- 12:11Speaker 1: all right, here we go.
- 12:14Speaker 4: I think we were like, because we had to send
- 12:16Speaker 4: all this evidence, and we were like, I kind of
- 12:19Speaker 4: wanted to do it because all these witnesses who came
- 12:23Speaker 4: out to actually help us do it. I felt like
- 12:26Speaker 4: we owed them something because they were telling their friends, oh,
- 12:29Speaker 4: I'm helping them do this world record attempt. It's going
- 12:31Speaker 4: to be great.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I mean, I'm impressed that you actually found that many
- 12:33Speaker 1: people because I know about six people in my life.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Oh, it was hard.
- 12:36Speaker 1: So the fact that, yeah, you came up with that
- 12:38Speaker 1: many is impressive.
- 12:39Speaker 3: And we had a couple people, you know, they came
- 12:40Speaker 3: in to the 2 to the 4. It was like
- 12:43Speaker 3: 2-4 in the morning. It's like, wow, I wouldn't do that.
- 12:45Speaker 4: Nobody was late.
- 12:46Speaker 1: I went home at that point.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Nobody was late.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Everyone got there on time. It was amazing. It was–
- 12:50Speaker 4: and our wives were kind of like running and coordinating
- 12:54Speaker 4: all these people.
- 12:54Speaker 3: They're our pit crew.
- 12:56Speaker 4: We do not give them enough loving.
- 12:59Speaker 3: They did not leave us.
- 13:00Speaker 4: So anyway, after... A month. Guinness finally gets back to
- 13:04Speaker 4: us and says, yes, you got the record. Here's your certificate.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Here's your fancy certificate.
- 13:08Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So then it was, what, another month later?
- 13:12Speaker 3: If that, yeah.
- 13:13Speaker 4: We suddenly, we weren't on the website anymore.
- 13:17Speaker 3: They had a debate on what was a webcast. Was
- 13:19Speaker 3: it video?
- 13:20Speaker 4: Was it audio?
- 13:20Speaker 3: It's like, it's your rules. I don't know.
- 13:22Speaker 1: You had both of them going, so you should have
- 13:24Speaker 1: had it covered either way.
- 13:26Speaker 4: They basically took it away from us because too many
- 13:30Speaker 4: of those internet trolls had been debating the legitimacy of
- 13:35Speaker 4: our record.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Again, sorry about that. This guy's totally cheating. I watched
- 13:42Speaker 1: him eat a burrito and they were not in front
- 13:44Speaker 1: of the microphone.
- 13:45Speaker 4: So they took us off of the website because they
- 13:48Speaker 4: were having a discussion in the upper echelon offices of Guinness.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Which probably don't exist. It's somebody's garage.
- 13:56Speaker 4: And then I guess they decided, yeah, whatever, it can
- 13:59Speaker 4: be what it is. Because then about another month later,
- 14:02Speaker 4: That page was back up, but we weren't on it.
- 14:04Speaker 4: Some guys in Russia now got.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Damn commies.
- 14:09Speaker 4: They were what, 48 hours?
- 14:10Speaker 3: Yeah, something like that.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:11Speaker 4: But the point is.
- 14:13Speaker 1: They threw that rock a little farther is what they did.
- 14:15Speaker 4: The point is, it's fine. They can have it. Yeah.
- 14:17Speaker 4: We still have the actual certificate from this.
- 14:20Speaker 1: It's right here. He's holding it up again.
- 14:22Speaker 4: That says, that proves for... A short window.
- 14:27Speaker 1: For a moment in time. We actually had.
- 14:31Speaker 4: A Guinness World Record for one brief shining moment, and
- 14:34Speaker 4: that is the anniversary we're celebrating tonight.
- 14:37Speaker 3: And those Russian guys can suck it.
- 14:38Speaker 4: And to celebrate that anniversary, we're going to revisit a
- 14:41Speaker 4: topic that we talked about for pretty much 40 hours straight.
- 14:47Speaker 3: We beat it to death.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Star Wars. The Star Wars. How's that for preamble?
- 14:53Speaker 5: Okay.
- 14:53Speaker 1: There was some rambling. Does that count?
- 15:30Speaker 5: We are the champions, my friends.
- 15:37Speaker 7: Al fin campeones otra vez.
- 15:46Speaker 1: We are the champions.
- 15:48Speaker 7: We are the champions. Franca Victoria. Expand the glory of Madrid.
- 16:06Speaker 7: With mustard and relish, you'll guarantee mouth-watering satisfaction.
- 16:11Speaker 6: Mmm!
- 16:13Speaker 7: And now he sips his costume on a beautiful golden bun.
- 16:18Speaker 4: There's his cue to go out on stage.
- 16:21Speaker 3: He's the natural.
- 16:23Speaker 7: He's the rage. Meet this person that'll feed our refreshment counter.
- 16:28Speaker 5: Treat the family.

- 17:33Speaker 4: I thought those were really great commercials you just played.
- 17:37Speaker 4: The earbud thing. Love it. Love it, man.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't work with them anymore. Oh, sorry. Earbuds.
- 17:44Speaker 1: They have pissed me off for the last time.
- 17:47Speaker 4: Ear enemies, I think you mean.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Well, that's what I meant to say. It was like,
- 17:51Speaker 4: you know, the earbuds, that's so 20-oh-oh.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Yeah, nobody uses that stuff anymore. Now it's all about
- 17:58Speaker 1: leather crafting.
- 17:59Speaker 4: Yes, exactly. Big cans.
- 18:01Speaker 1: You yourself would be jealous if you had this Admiral
- 18:04Speaker 1: Ackbar wallet.
- 18:06Speaker 4: For people listening at home, he is holding up a wallet,
- 18:09Speaker 4: but embossed on it is one Admiral J. Ackbar.
- 18:13Speaker 3: It's a tree.
- 18:15Speaker 4: It's a trap. No, it's a tree, by the way.
- 18:18Speaker 1: It's right on there.
- 18:19Speaker 4: It's a trap. Are we recording?
- 18:23Speaker 1: Unfortunately, yes.
- 18:24Speaker 4: Okay, I have... Admiral Ackbar stole that catchphrase, okay? He says,
- 18:32Speaker 4: it's a trap in Return of the Jedi. The first
- 18:34Speaker 4: person that ever says, it's a trap, is Princess Leia
- 18:37Speaker 4: in Empire Strikes Back when she's trying to warn Luke
- 18:41Speaker 4: that he's going into the carbon sheets. She says it twice,
- 18:43Speaker 4: it's a trap, it's a trap. So why does Admiral
- 18:46Speaker 4: Ackbar get the credit for the... It's a trap line
- 18:49Speaker 4: when it obviously belongs to Princess Leia. Once again, the
- 18:54Speaker 4: female cannot get ahead in this male-dominated society.
- 18:57Speaker 3: It's all delivery.
- 18:58Speaker 4: It's delivery.
- 18:59Speaker 1: It's a trap. Yeah, I don't know that it's so much...
- 19:02Speaker 1: Not that there's not much sexism going on in the
- 19:04Speaker 1: Star Wars universe. I think it's more the delivery, as
- 19:09Speaker 1: you say. I think it's also the fact that it
- 19:11Speaker 1: comes out of a giant puppet head that's some sort
- 19:13Speaker 1: of fish. If he looks like a fish... It's going
- 19:16Speaker 1: to be funny and terrible. But Carrie Fisher was like.
- 19:20Speaker 4: Hanging onto the wall and climbing back in. But she's cute.
- 19:23Speaker 1: And you just sit there the whole time going, oh,
- 19:25Speaker 1: look at Princess Leia. She's so damn cute.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Egmore has a quiet calmness to him.
- 19:30Speaker 1: It is a trap.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Even when he's in a trap.
- 19:33Speaker 4: Well, he's used to it because as a boy, he
- 19:36Speaker 4: lived in fear of the lobster boats floating over his
- 19:40Speaker 4: head on.
- 19:40Speaker 3: A daily basis.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 19:41Speaker 3: Those are his words.
- 19:45Speaker 1: I'm stuck in a net.
- 19:46Speaker 4: I don't know. I still feel like he stole it.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Akbar watched Empire, and he's like, hey, that was a
- 19:54Speaker 4: good line. I'll bet I could improve it.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Next time I'm in a trap, I know what I'm saying.
- 19:58Speaker 4: Yeah, he totally stole it. It's like whenever Chappelle's show
- 20:03Speaker 4: was really huge, and everyone was saying the N-word, because
- 20:07Speaker 4: it's just.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I don't know that that made it okay. No, just
- 20:10Speaker 1: if you're Chappelle.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Remember that year nobody would talk to you, Ben?
- 20:13Speaker 1: I think we pinned it down.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Might have a reason for that.
- 20:19Speaker 4: I'm a slave to catchphrases, and that was the show.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Oh, you know what it is? It's a drop.
- 20:24Speaker 1: What you talking about, Ben? All right, so what we've
- 20:28Speaker 1: realized is you don't understand the.
- 20:29Speaker 4: Difference between That show introduced me to Ebonics because of
- 20:32Speaker 4: the title. whenever the title of different strokes would come up,
- 20:35Speaker 4: there wouldn't be an E. There would be a little apostrophe. Like, 1982,
- 20:40Speaker 4: whenever this show came out, Ebonics. They were pushing the
- 20:42Speaker 4: Ebonic agenda onto apostrophe America. And I don't know why
- 20:49Speaker 4: apostrophes didn't make it.
- 20:50Speaker 3: That third rail is right there, man.
- 20:53Speaker 1: And it's bad enough you and your friends ripped off
- 20:56Speaker 1: different strokes anyway. I mean, you've seen where the... the
- 21:02Speaker 1: two boys are trying to get into the fancy prep school.
- 21:07Speaker 4: I don't follow you.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Well, the name of the prep school is Digby. So,
- 21:12Speaker 1: I'm just saying, you guys ripped off different strokes. Lawsuit pending.
- 21:19Speaker 1: They sing a song about the school, so music was
- 21:22Speaker 1: already involved in this. This makes no sense to the
- 21:25Speaker 1: rest of the world.
- 21:25Speaker 4: I have no idea what you're talking about.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I'll just, for years, have been wanting to call you
- 21:28Speaker 1: out for stealing.
- 21:28Speaker 4: I don't even know what you're talking about.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Have you heard of a show called Difference Journey?
- 21:32Speaker 3: Yes, I have.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Arnold and Willis are trying to get into this fancy
- 21:36Speaker 1: prep school. And the name of the fancy prep school
- 21:39Speaker 1: is Digby Academy. No kidding, really?
- 21:41Speaker 5: Really?
- 21:42Speaker 1: So you guys, it's probably Paul's fault.
- 21:46Speaker 4: People living at home listening to this on a webcast
- 21:48Speaker 4: about Digby Academy.
- 21:48Speaker 1: 400 years ago.
- 21:50Speaker 4: 20 years ago when the world was young and life
- 21:54Speaker 4: was new. I went muddy waters and then electricity. I
- 21:57Speaker 4: was in a promising local rock band called Digby. And
- 22:01Speaker 4: I had no idea that.
- 22:02Speaker 1: It was inspired.
- 22:04Speaker 4: From the TV show Diff Ernt Strokes. That's amazing to me. Okay.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:10Speaker 4: I'm mind blown. I'd like to enroll you with my
- 22:13Speaker 4: old alma mater. Digby Preparatory School for Boys.
- 22:16Speaker 6: Sounds like a prison. Maybe I make good tolerance strikes.
- 22:22Speaker 4: Digby has turned out some of the great leaders in
- 22:24Speaker 4: the American industry.
- 22:26Speaker 6: You boys would just love it.
- 22:28Speaker 4: You just thought of it this morning, huh, Mr. D?
- 22:30Speaker 4: So you're trying to force us to.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Go to Digby.
- 22:33Speaker 6: It only looks that way, Willis.
- 22:35Speaker 4: This podcast is over.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Because they're taking you away for all that money you
- 22:42Speaker 1: owe the NBC network for stealing their ideas. Intellectual property.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Hey, we were talking about sci-fi worlds and all that.
- 22:49Speaker 1: So what we've learned is Ben doesn't know the difference
- 22:51Speaker 1: between fake sci-fi world and real world activities because he
- 22:56Speaker 1: thinks Admiral Ackbar's a real guy. So that aside.
- 23:00Speaker 4: I didn't see any strings working him, man.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Well, he's a really good marionette. So, he's one of
- 23:06Speaker 1: the new fancy ones.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Was Warwick Davis inside of his head making the mouth move?
- 23:10Speaker 1: Hey, everything has Warwick Davis inside of it.
- 23:12Speaker 2: I do, too.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Have you seen me lately?
- 23:14Speaker 1: Leprechaun or whatever, you know, whatever wickets you got going on,
- 23:20Speaker 1: there's some sort of Warwick inside it.
- 23:23Speaker 4: Got a little wicket in me.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Just like Elvis.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Do we.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Do we just want to launch into our ranting about
- 23:32Speaker 1: the Star Wars universe like we normally do? Or do
- 23:34Speaker 1: we want to branch out and hit some other franchise?
- 23:36Speaker 4: Well, just to stay on Star Wars a minute. One
- 23:39Speaker 4: of the biggest complaints people have about the franchise when
- 23:42Speaker 4: they think about it for too long is that each
- 23:45Speaker 4: planet has one environment. And they always, for some reason,
- 23:48Speaker 4: think that's a bad thing. Like Endor is just redwood forest.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Tatooine is just Tunisian desert. Hoth is just ice ball.
- 23:58Speaker 4: And why is that such a bad thing? Because I
- 24:01Speaker 4: was thinking, in a weird way, it's like apostrophe America.
- 24:04Speaker 4: It's like the 50 states. We have our frozen state, Alaska.
- 24:09Speaker 4: We have our swamp state, Florida. We have our corn state. Nebraska.
- 24:16Speaker 4: I'm sure that in Episode 8, they are going to
- 24:18Speaker 4: go to the corn planet, where it's going to be
- 24:20Speaker 4: nothing but corn fields surrounding this entire planet, man. Why
- 24:24Speaker 4: is that such a bad thing? I think it helps
- 24:26Speaker 4: you organize your universe, and it helps you keep track.
- 24:30Speaker 4: You know how whenever you visit a different state, you
- 24:32Speaker 4: get the little state magnet? I'm sure on the side
- 24:35Speaker 4: of Luke's X-Wing fighter, there's little magnets for each state
- 24:38Speaker 4: that he's been to, or planet that he's been to.
- 24:41Speaker 1: And at the end, it's got a planet New Zealand
- 24:44Speaker 1: on the side.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:45Speaker 3: On the corn planet, the Empire could just come along
- 24:47Speaker 3: and have a big magnifying glass and just popcorn the
- 24:50Speaker 3: whole time.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Yeah, that'll be the third gether star.
- 24:53Speaker 1: That's just the end of real genius.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Hold on a minute.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Planet Redenbacher, no!
- 24:59Speaker 1: Planet real genius.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Hold on a minute. You've got the movie butter zone.
- 25:03Speaker 3: You've got the kettle corn zone.
- 25:06Speaker 4: They break the day up into Orvilles.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Ah, third Orville. Time to go.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I feel like that's possibly more due to the fact
- 25:15Speaker 1: that the Star Wars universe is not real imaginative.
- 25:20Speaker 4: But it was a long, long, long time ago. Maybe
- 25:23Speaker 4: these planets didn't have time to develop extra environments. They
- 25:26Speaker 4: only had time to develop one environment per... And, you know.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I'm talking about in the real world, not the universe
- 25:33Speaker 1: of Star Wars.
- 25:33Speaker 4: You just told me I couldn't tell the difference between
- 25:35Speaker 4: the real world.
- 25:36Speaker 1: And fantasy world.
- 25:36Speaker 3: That's true. That's what I'm talking about.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I'm talking about the people creating it. I may pin
- 25:41Speaker 1: a good portion of it on George, because this started
- 25:43Speaker 1: in the old world. But even as they expanded into
- 25:46Speaker 1: the now Legends expanded universe, it was always like, this is.
- 25:51Speaker 3: I miss Mera.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Take your random Greedo-like form that looks like Greedo. They
- 25:59Speaker 1: all look like Greedo. They all kind of dress the same.
- 26:02Speaker 2: That's racist.
- 26:02Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. They don't ever branch out. There's
- 26:05Speaker 1: never anybody that's their own individual person. The race is
- 26:10Speaker 1: that thing. Just like the planet is that thing. And
- 26:13Speaker 1: the race is, by the way, they're all bounty hunters.
- 26:17Speaker 1: There's like four jobs in the Star Wars universe. You
- 26:20Speaker 1: can be a moisture evaporator. You can be a bounty hunter,
- 26:25Speaker 1: you can fight for the rebellion, or you're a guy
- 26:29Speaker 1: that works the bar on the Tatooine.
- 26:31Speaker 3: I think you're missing victim.
- 26:33Speaker 1: I don't know if that's a life choice, is it?
- 26:36Speaker 1: You just are that.
- 26:38Speaker 4: I had never heard in my life, granted I was
- 26:40Speaker 4: only seven, the term bounty hunter. And then Star Wars
- 26:44Speaker 4: comes along, and it's like every other person is a
- 26:46Speaker 4: bounty hunter.
- 26:47Speaker 1: It's like.
- 26:48Speaker 4: it's like whenever you're in space high school and you
- 26:52Speaker 4: go to the guidance counselor, he has a brochure on
- 26:56Speaker 4: the wall with all of the different space occupations that
- 27:02Speaker 4: you can take. Like there's space plumber, space smuggler, there's
- 27:06Speaker 4: space bounty hunter on there. And, The freaking slot with
- 27:10Speaker 4: all of the Bounty Hunter brochures is always empty. Because
- 27:13Speaker 4: that's what everyone always goes to, you know?
- 27:15Speaker 1: Again, they're not... And it goes to the, like, backstory.
- 27:19Speaker 4: Like, they.
- 27:21Speaker 1: If you go to Wikipedia, they put all this time
- 27:24Speaker 1: into writing this backstory, but again, they're not real savvy
- 27:29Speaker 1: about it. They're always like.
- 27:30Speaker 4: Dengar was a real person with real feelings.
- 27:33Speaker 1: No, it's not that. It's always like the most cliche
- 27:35Speaker 1: thing becomes not only the trait of this person, but
- 27:39Speaker 1: their entire race. It's like the Mon Calamari are always
- 27:43Speaker 1: getting caught in traps. It's a thing that they're known
- 27:46Speaker 1: for as a race, but... They're always tripping over the
- 27:50Speaker 1: ottoman as they go through the living room.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Their motto?
- 27:53Speaker 1: It's a trap. Every one of them is like, all
- 27:57Speaker 1: of the walrus man people, they're always known for losing
- 28:02Speaker 1: their arms. It's a crazy thing that happens.
- 28:05Speaker 4: At some point in my life, I had heard that
- 28:09Speaker 4: Boba Fett was wearing the armor of a past police force.
- 28:17Speaker 4: It was like, you know, he was just a bounty hunter,
- 28:19Speaker 4: and he needed some gear, and he went to the
- 28:22Speaker 4: Space Army and Navy store, and he got that. Do
- 28:24Speaker 4: you have any surplus? But then it evolved into where
- 28:27Speaker 4: he's wearing the sacred armor of the Mandalorians on a
- 28:31Speaker 4: planet where they're all bounty hunters, and they're all flying around,
- 28:34Speaker 4: and they're all wearing these suits.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Because that's Star Wars. They only have five ideas, and
- 28:39Speaker 1: they keep fusing them. How about we have a giant
- 28:41Speaker 1: planet-type thing that's going to blow up other planets?
- 28:44Speaker 4: All right.
- 28:44Speaker 1: How about we destroy it at the end of that story?
- 28:46Speaker 1: But that's consistent. That's three out of seven.
- 28:48Speaker 3: That's consistent.
- 28:49Speaker 4: You have the redwood planet. You have the corn planet.
- 28:52Speaker 4: You have the snow planet. You have the city planet.
- 28:54Speaker 4: And you have the Death Star planet.
- 28:57Speaker 2: It's all.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Which Death Star planet? We've had three now. They're not
- 29:00Speaker 1: real imaginative. I love the universe, but they're not real imaginative.
- 29:04Speaker 4: I had the opportunity to ride on an elevator. the
- 29:08Speaker 4: other day. Congratulations. Is it the Death Star elevator? Well,
- 29:12Speaker 4: like I always do sometimes when I get onto the elevator,
- 29:14Speaker 4: I always think of that charming scene where Han is
- 29:17Speaker 4: in the Stormtrooper outfit, and he gestures to some Imperial
- 29:20Speaker 4: walking by. Do you need to get in the elevator? No?
- 29:23Speaker 3: Okay, fine.
- 29:24Speaker 4: And I began to think, you know, the Death Star
- 29:27Speaker 4: was the size of a planet, you know? Because it
- 29:31Speaker 4: was no moon, it was a planet.
- 29:33Speaker 5: Right.
- 29:33Speaker 4: There was no Pluto question here. It was the size
- 29:36Speaker 4: of a planet.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Pluto's a planet, shut up.
- 29:38Speaker 4: So, it's like, I like... on a planet. And if
- 29:41Speaker 4: I need to get to, say, Australia, I've got a
- 29:44Speaker 4: book of flight. It's going to take me nine days
- 29:46Speaker 4: to get there. Everything that happened on the Death Star
- 29:49Speaker 4: just happened to take place within one city block. That
- 29:54Speaker 4: was very, very fortunate. Convenient, if you will.
- 29:56Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 29:59Speaker 4: The princess where the Falcon landed, where Obi-Wan Kenobi had
- 30:03Speaker 4: to turn off the hose attachment. It was all in
- 30:08Speaker 4: the same building on this giant planet.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Again, universe is very convenient. Luke goes looking for Yoda
- 30:17Speaker 1: on Dagobah, a planet. There's one smart life form on
- 30:23Speaker 1: the entire planet. He happens to crash right where he's at.
- 30:27Speaker 3: Well, Yoda reaches giant little... See, now that's one of the.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Again, if you're a super geek, you have the theory
- 30:31Speaker 1: of like, well, Yoda really guided him in.
- 30:34Speaker 3: I didn't know that. Yeah, he didn't crash the second time.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Because Yoda wasn't screwing up Luke's pilot missiles?
- 30:40Speaker 1: Exactly. Luke was on a run, though. That day, he
- 30:44Speaker 1: crashed two ships.
- 30:46Speaker 4: I never thought about that.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right. Actually, we have no idea what the
- 30:50Speaker 1: time frame is in the Star Wars universe.
- 30:52Speaker 4: Suddenly, Mr. Fancy Pants, who can blow up a Death
- 30:54Speaker 4: Star all by himself, can't land his ship two times
- 30:57Speaker 4: in the same show.
- 30:58Speaker 1: He should have got out and been like, damn, two
- 31:01Speaker 1: times today.
- 31:02Speaker 3: My insurance rates are going to go through the roof.
- 31:05Speaker 1: And then kicked it.
- 31:07Speaker 3: R2, make it look like an accident.
- 31:08Speaker 4: Space Geico is going to be pissed.
- 31:12Speaker 1: That's what that lizard was. It ran across the tree.
- 31:14Speaker 1: It was his insurance agent showing up. Be like, oh, man,
- 31:18Speaker 1: I don't know if I can call this an accident,
- 31:20Speaker 1: in quotes.
- 31:21Speaker 3: You got some water damage in this one, man. It's total.
- 31:24Speaker 3: I don't want to see you selling this X-Wing.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Car Fox is going to hear about this.
- 31:28Speaker 4: Space Fox, that's right.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Star Fox.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Shoot. Let's get this straight. Star Fox.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 31:32Speaker 1: That's his real job. It's not flying that plane.
- 31:34Speaker 4: So basically, I've come to... I don't criticize the fact
- 31:39Speaker 4: that each planet has one environment. I've come to... Count
- 31:43Speaker 4: on that. It's like a comfort thing for me. I
- 31:45Speaker 4: know I'm in the Star Wars universe when I see that.
- 31:48Speaker 4: I like it. Don't ever change it.
- 31:51Speaker 1: What happens if they mess with your universes?
- 31:55Speaker 4: I can retcon it. I'm a Doctor Who fan. I
- 32:01Speaker 4: can retcon like nobody's been this.
- 32:04Speaker 1: I don't know if that's a plus or a minus.
- 32:07Speaker 4: It's a life skill that... Has never brought me gainful employment,
- 32:11Speaker 4: but it's a skill nonetheless. When you think about it, though,
- 32:19Speaker 4: most sci-fi shows don't really... Because it's such a novelty
- 32:26Speaker 4: to go from one planet to another on most sci-fi
- 32:29Speaker 4: shows that do that kind of thing, They don't ever
- 32:32Speaker 4: show diversity on a planet. It's always just one thing
- 32:35Speaker 4: on the planet. I mean Star Trek used to do
- 32:38Speaker 4: that back in the Captain Kirk days. They would go
- 32:41Speaker 4: to the planet where people are half black and white.
- 32:44Speaker 1: No, because some of the people are half white and black.
- 32:47Speaker 4: But you didn't get into the people that were transitioning
- 32:50Speaker 4: from white to black and black to white. And they
- 32:52Speaker 4: were all gray. They didn't get into that minutia. It
- 32:56Speaker 4: was all very black and white.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Like on the table.
- 33:03Speaker 4: Real clever. I think this argument happened in the 90s.
- 33:08Speaker 4: when there was no more Star Wars movies that were
- 33:11Speaker 4: ever going to be made ever.
- 33:12Speaker 1: I mean, you remember.
- 33:14Speaker 3: Those days.
- 33:15Speaker 4: You and I used to work at Suncoast. We would
- 33:17Speaker 4: watch Star Wars every Sunday. And you've seen it so
- 33:21Speaker 4: many times that you begin just to nitpick every little
- 33:24Speaker 4: thing about it. We're geeks. That's what we do.
- 33:26Speaker 1: That's why it's close to my heart. That's why I
- 33:28Speaker 1: can make fun of it now is because I love
- 33:30Speaker 1: it so much.
- 33:30Speaker 4: Do you think we'll ever get that way with Force Awakens?
- 33:33Speaker 4: Will we have seen it as much as we've seen
- 33:35Speaker 4: the original to the point.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Where we can?
- 33:36Speaker 3: No, because we're closer to death.
- 33:38Speaker 2: That's true.
- 33:39Speaker 1: And you're like a grown-up. You have like a kid
- 33:41Speaker 1: to deal with. I probably will because I have no life.
- 33:44Speaker 1: But for you grown-up peoples, your child might have a
- 33:48Speaker 1: chance to watch it.
- 33:48Speaker 4: Have you found anything in it lately?
- 33:51Speaker 1: Did you listen to our episode? Yeah, but that was
- 33:54Speaker 1: just– We spent hours nitpicking it.
- 33:56Speaker 4: That was your first viewing of it. Have you crammed
- 33:59Speaker 4: in 20 years' worth of viewing to kind of catch
- 34:02Speaker 4: up with the original?
- 34:02Speaker 1: I watched it again since then.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Okay. Okay.
- 34:05Speaker 1: A few weeks ago when it came out on fancy
- 34:08Speaker 1: blu-ray and I was like oh I need that and
- 34:10Speaker 1: then I watched it again.
- 34:10Speaker 4: Did you notice anything Dave did you notice anything else.
- 34:13Speaker 3: In it I can't say I really came to any.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Remarkable conclusion no no stormtroopers they're much better at that
- 34:20Speaker 4: now better visibility in those new maps they're out of.
- 34:23Speaker 1: The clones now they've moved into just recruiting those faulty
- 34:27Speaker 1: clones and once again stealing children to make them.
- 34:30Speaker 3: Stormtroopers play God intended Stealing children. Stealing children.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Children are our greatest resource. The emperor must have been
- 34:39Speaker 4: really confident in his position to, like, these are our
- 34:43Speaker 4: new army forces. We're calling them stormtroopers. You know, instead
- 34:47Speaker 4: of calling them freedom fighters, he calls them stormtroopers, you know,
- 34:50Speaker 4: and you're going to like it.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Well.
- 34:53Speaker 4: Everyone's with him.
- 34:53Speaker 1: At that point, he did kind of rule the galaxy, right?
- 34:57Speaker 3: Screw all y'all.
- 34:58Speaker 4: You know, it's funny, too, like, I was talking about
- 35:01Speaker 4: how the reimagined Battlestar Galactica, it's so familiar to me
- 35:05Speaker 4: because I'm essentially living in the world of Battlestar Galactica.
- 35:08Speaker 1: You ain't got no Viper.
- 35:10Speaker 4: I've seen Star Wars so much, it's familiar to me.
- 35:14Speaker 4: Whenever I watch the Harry Potter movies, it still feels...
- 35:19Speaker 4: That universe... feels extremely foreign to me, not because it's magic,
- 35:23Speaker 4: but because it's British and like the British school system.
- 35:27Speaker 4: I have a feeling every British kid who watches Harry
- 35:30Speaker 4: Potter or reads it, they can identify with it because
- 35:32Speaker 4: it's like their high school, their grade school. But I
- 35:35Speaker 4: have no idea what the house system and why you
- 35:38Speaker 4: got to wear robes and why you have to have
- 35:40Speaker 4: separate houses.
- 35:41Speaker 1: There's always a ghost talking to me in the bathroom.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Those crazy British people.
- 35:45Speaker 4: It's like there's this whole other level of aspect to
- 35:48Speaker 4: that world I don't understand, which is the reality of that.
- 35:53Speaker 4: You know what I'm talking about. Words are hard.
- 35:57Speaker 1: A little bit. I still feel like it's its own
- 36:00Speaker 1: little world.
- 36:01Speaker 4: I'm trying to make your topic work here.
- 36:06Speaker 8: I don't know about that.
- 36:08Speaker 3: The missing ingredient is charm.
- 36:11Speaker 4: Charm. It's charming.
- 36:14Speaker 1: It is for weird Americans who are awkward and clunky
- 36:18Speaker 1: like we are. So again, do you feel like that?
- 36:21Speaker 1: We've strayed totally out of sci-fi and into fantasy, but
- 36:23Speaker 1: do you feel like in Britain it's missing a level
- 36:26Speaker 1: of charm? That we automatically like grant anything British as
- 36:31Speaker 1: an extra level of charming in this dumb American world.
- 36:34Speaker 3: They hear no British accents.
- 36:36Speaker 4: Dave has been to Britain.
- 36:38Speaker 1: On purpose?
- 36:38Speaker 4: Were there people bad-mouthing Harry Potter when you were with her?
- 36:42Speaker 1: No.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Actually, we went to Edinburgh, and J.K. Rowling still lives there,
- 36:46Speaker 3: and apparently she still goes to the grocery store.
- 36:49Speaker 1: As a writer, you can kind of sneak in a
- 36:51Speaker 1: little bit.
- 36:51Speaker 4: And she doesn't get to, like.
- 36:52Speaker 3: No, people are nice to her, but she goes about
- 36:55Speaker 3: her business. Let's just get into England.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Scotland.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Oh, wait.
- 36:59Speaker 1: The United Kingdom.
- 37:00Speaker 4: Scotland treats their national treasures so much better than here.
- 37:02Speaker 4: I mean, like, here, if, like, Scott Bale was to
- 37:05Speaker 4: go to the subway, there'd be a mob! Wait, what
- 37:09Speaker 4: year is it?
- 37:09Speaker 3: 1976?
- 37:13Speaker 1: Did they even have subways in 1976?
- 37:15Speaker 4: Charles is still in charge. That's all I'm saying.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Thank God it's not Willie Ames.
- 37:19Speaker 4: You know, Dave went to Scotland right when they were
- 37:24Speaker 4: doing the vote on, yes, we're going to stay, no,
- 37:27Speaker 4: we're going to leave. And did I get it backwards? Yes,
- 37:31Speaker 4: we're leaving, no, we're going to stay. I don't know.
- 37:33Speaker 4: They were voting on whether they were going to leave
- 37:34Speaker 4: or not.
- 37:34Speaker 3: We're leaving or staying, yeah.
- 37:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 37:37Speaker 4: I was hoping it was going to turn into a
- 37:39Speaker 4: post-apocalyptic world that he was going to have to live
- 37:41Speaker 4: through and then tell us about. I was hoping it
- 37:44Speaker 4: was going to be like after any average college basketball
- 37:47Speaker 4: game here, where there would be people in the streets rioting,
- 37:49Speaker 4: turning over cars, setting fires.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Burning couches.
- 37:51Speaker 1: Lighting couches. That's what they do.
- 37:53Speaker 4: Dave said nothing happened like that. They're all very polite.
- 37:57Speaker 4: That's true.
- 37:57Speaker 2: He did.
- 37:58Speaker 4: Which is probably why J.K. Rowling can feel safe enough
- 38:00Speaker 4: to go down to the Piggly Wiggly in Edinburgh and
- 38:04Speaker 4: not get hurt.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:05Speaker 4: I don't know. You had a chance, David, to live
- 38:09Speaker 4: through a sci-fi apocalypse, and you missed it.
- 38:15Speaker 3: It was a very polite apocalypse. The day of the vote,
- 38:19Speaker 3: I was kind of wondering, because everybody was nice. I mean,
- 38:21Speaker 3: there was a lot of discussion on the streets. And
- 38:25Speaker 3: I use that word, discussion. They were discussing things. They
- 38:28Speaker 3: weren't shouting at each other or spitting on each other.
- 38:30Speaker 4: How un-American.
- 38:31Speaker 1: This is not America at all.
- 38:33Speaker 3: So the day of the vote, it's like, The polls
- 38:35Speaker 3: were open from 6 or 8 to 8 or whatever.
- 38:37Speaker 3: It was a 12-hour opening.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Wait, and people went?
- 38:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:40Speaker 1: It's not America at all.
- 38:42Speaker 3: It was 12 Orville's later. No, we were kind of
- 38:45Speaker 3: walking around. It's like, and people were voting. There were
- 38:46Speaker 3: polling places everywhere. And no riots, no pushing, no shoving.
- 38:51Speaker 3: And their TV does not have exit polling. So when
- 38:55Speaker 3: the polls close, that's when they start to count the votes.
- 38:57Speaker 3: There are no... People are staying up until 3, 4,
- 39:00Speaker 3: 5 o'clock in the morning to see what the results were.
- 39:03Speaker 4: Lack of sleep. There'd be good right potential here, I
- 39:06Speaker 4: would think.
- 39:07Speaker 3: The next day, the vote was on Thursday, I think,
- 39:10Speaker 3: and the next day we went out on a Friday.
- 39:11Speaker 3: The only thing you could see was people were a
- 39:14Speaker 3: little bit sleepy.
- 39:16Speaker 4: Oh, God, it's the end of the world.
- 39:19Speaker 3: Everybody was a little bit fatigued, a little bag under
- 39:21Speaker 3: their eyes.
- 39:22Speaker 4: This is the nation that gave us Braveheart. No one
- 39:24Speaker 4: was out. tipping over cars or anything?
- 39:27Speaker 2: No.
- 39:28Speaker 3: No cars, no cows, no nothing.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Well, then we're going to take away their freedom. I
- 39:32Speaker 1: heard the speech. You've got to turn over cars if
- 39:35Speaker 1: you want us to not take away your freedom.
- 39:36Speaker 4: Is this why people embrace sci-fi so much? Because when
- 39:39Speaker 4: you get down to it, reality just lets them down?
- 39:41Speaker 4: Don't get me wrong. I'm glad that you made it
- 39:45Speaker 4: back safely, Dave.
- 39:47Speaker 1: He would have told your tale had you been taken out.
- 39:50Speaker 4: You would have had a chance to live through a
- 39:51Speaker 4: sci-fi-esque apocalypto. I just pictured you and your good lady
- 39:59Speaker 4: wife running in terror to the airport, holding up your passport.
- 40:03Speaker 4: We gotta get on that plane!
- 40:05Speaker 3: Just like Argo. We gotta get on that plane, quick!
- 40:08Speaker 4: Forget your suitcase.
- 40:09Speaker 3: Quit.
- 40:09Speaker 4: Run. That's a trap. Save that baby. You know, that
- 40:13Speaker 4: kind of thing.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Leave that baby.
- 40:15Speaker 4: I do a terrible impersonation of your wife. I don't know.
- 40:18Speaker 1: That was pretty good. I mean, you brought up a
- 40:23Speaker 1: world that I had already. I was listing off some
- 40:26Speaker 1: of the ones we needed to hit post-apocalyptic. So do
- 40:29Speaker 1: we think a decent representation of the future world that
- 40:33Speaker 1: may or may not come after the fall of Scotland
- 40:36Speaker 1: is the Mad Max, which is really more of Australia,
- 40:38Speaker 1: but still are we, you know, where Scotland sent all
- 40:42Speaker 1: their crazy people to.
- 40:43Speaker 4: Man, can't we just get beyond Thunderdome? I'm sick of
- 40:45Speaker 4: talking about this. Hey, did you hear that?
- 40:49Speaker 2: I did.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Master Blaster needs to take you out.
- 40:51Speaker 4: Okay, you know what? I actually need to sit this
- 40:53Speaker 4: one out. I've not seen any of the Mad Max movies.
- 40:56Speaker 4: You are out of the loop. I know all the cliches.
- 40:58Speaker 3: And you've seen the Mad Max movies.
- 41:00Speaker 4: But, okay, yeah, I know all the cliches.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Well, and they, I mean, they differ greatly drastically in
- 41:05Speaker 1: their own series. Mostly one to two. One is an
- 41:08Speaker 1: entirely different universe that it exists in.
- 41:11Speaker 3: One you never see. Didn't they dub Mel Gibson?
- 41:14Speaker 1: I think everybody was dubbed. Everything is very.
- 41:17Speaker 4: Wouldn't it be funny if the guy who did his
- 41:19Speaker 4: voice was Jewish? A Jewish woman. I thought we had
- 41:26Speaker 4: a relationship.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Thundercats.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Oh, Lord.
- 41:32Speaker 4: You know, that might be why I've never gone back
- 41:34Speaker 4: to watch those, because Mel Gibson has such a stink
- 41:36Speaker 4: about them. I just don't want to see them anymore.
- 41:38Speaker 1: It's definitely true now. You can watch the fourth one,
- 41:41Speaker 1: then you don't have to.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Worry about that.
- 41:42Speaker 4: It's true. Mel Gibson's career went through an apocalypse.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it did.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Well, okay, so do you get tired of post-apocalyptic movies?
- 41:52Speaker 1: Not if they're cool.
- 41:54Speaker 4: Well, is it cool? They have to be good. What
- 41:56Speaker 4: makes a post-apocalyptic movie cool?
- 41:58Speaker 1: Cool and are there cars that have giant things mounted
- 42:02Speaker 1: on them that probably shouldn't be mounted on an automobile
- 42:05Speaker 1: unless you're at a fancy car show or have a
- 42:07Speaker 1: guitarist uh dangling from the fire shooting out of the
- 42:11Speaker 1: side and may or may not come.
- 42:13Speaker 3: With its own guitarist that last mad max movie that's
- 42:16Speaker 3: it's a weird apocalypse movie because it's one big car
- 42:18Speaker 3: chase and it's just where do.
- 42:20Speaker 4: They get the gas That's what they're fighting over. But
- 42:24Speaker 4: they're wasting gas trying to get gas, right?
- 42:26Speaker 3: That's why it's an apocalypse.
- 42:28Speaker 1: They're not the smartest people in the future.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Apocalypse does not make sense.
- 42:31Speaker 4: If it's a post-apocalyptic world, why are there still body
- 42:34Speaker 4: shops that can make these cars with big teeth and spikes?
- 42:36Speaker 1: They're just real crafty. They ain't got nothing else to do. Like,
- 42:39Speaker 1: they busted up their TV set.
- 42:41Speaker 3: It's the car shop planet.
- 42:43Speaker 1: They're not putting.
- 42:45Speaker 4: It's the aftermarket planet.
- 42:47Speaker 1: I think that's it.
- 42:47Speaker 4: Episode 9.
- 42:48Speaker 1: They ruined the network. They can't watch Wheel of Fortune
- 42:51Speaker 1: every night, so now they're just out in the garage
- 42:53Speaker 1: welding away.
- 42:54Speaker 3: Give me some nitro.
- 42:55Speaker 4: I would think after the Emperor fell in Return of
- 42:58Speaker 4: the Jedi, and his sithy force thing that was holding
- 43:03Speaker 4: the Empire together is no longer there. He literally fell,
- 43:05Speaker 4: by the way. Why did that world suddenly embrace the
- 43:10Speaker 4: New Republic? Why didn't that go into a post-apocalyptic scenario?
- 43:14Speaker 4: that universe, you know?
- 43:15Speaker 7: See....
- 43:17Speaker 4: Is it because George wanted a happy ending?
- 43:20Speaker 1: The more I get into, and again, this will take
- 43:22Speaker 1: us into a rant that we've probably had before. I
- 43:26Speaker 1: don't know if it was fully on the show. Certainly
- 43:28Speaker 1: many times it was just loitering around. But no, just
- 43:31Speaker 1: in general. I think we've had many a discussion about
- 43:34Speaker 1: Star Wars in our times. But as we go back
- 43:38Speaker 1: and look, again, as the geeks that we are, and
- 43:40Speaker 1: we go back and re-watch these especially as you get
- 43:44Speaker 1: into the more we learn about the universe. When George
- 43:47Speaker 1: actually sat down and went, I want to tell him
- 43:49Speaker 1: a whole lot of other stuff about Star Wars universe,
- 43:51Speaker 1: and he wrote these one, two, three movies. I'm like.
- 43:55Speaker 3: We didn't want to know, George.
- 43:56Speaker 1: We didn't want to know. And it's true. I think
- 43:59Speaker 1: I did bring this up on the other one, but
- 44:01Speaker 1: I was like, I don't like a lot of the
- 44:03Speaker 1: stuff that I liked in 456. I thought the Jedis
- 44:07Speaker 1: were awesome. I felt like the Empire, bad. But the
- 44:10Speaker 1: more you get into it, I'm like... other than killing
- 44:13Speaker 1: random people and planets and whatnot, I'm like, as you,
- 44:16Speaker 1: I'm like, the emperor's just trying to run the galaxy.
- 44:20Speaker 3: He's gotta break a couple eggs.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Sometimes you gotta put the smack down on people to
- 44:24Speaker 1: keep them in line. But as you go on, like
- 44:27Speaker 1: you're watching it, I'm like.
- 44:28Speaker 4: You're voting for Trump, right?
- 44:32Speaker 1: He doesn't have the charm of the emperor is the
- 44:34Speaker 1: sad thing, but no, it's a lightning.
- 44:38Speaker 3: That might be true.
- 44:39Speaker 4: And it's the most glorious, luxurious, classiest lightning coming out
- 44:44Speaker 4: of my fingers.
- 44:46Speaker 3: You'd be lucky to be shocked by this kind of lightning.
- 44:48Speaker 3: People pay for this kind of lightning.
- 44:50Speaker 4: Sorry, I interrupted your rant.
- 44:51Speaker 1: It's huge. It is one of those, the more you
- 44:53Speaker 1: get into, like, they're bad because we're told that they're bad.
- 44:58Speaker 1: And then you watch as it falls. I'm like, do
- 45:01Speaker 1: you rebels come around to do anything any different? No,
- 45:04Speaker 1: because it falls apart again within a 30-year span. Everything
- 45:07Speaker 1: falls apart again. You're right back where you came from.
- 45:10Speaker 1: So you guys didn't know how to run a galaxy
- 45:11Speaker 1: any better than the Emperor, obviously.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Ben and I have had this discussion. All right. You know,
- 45:15Speaker 3: Anakin's going through all this stuff. And, you know, Yoda's like,
- 45:19Speaker 3: don't get attached to anybody because they're going to die.
- 45:21Speaker 3: The only person who ever talks to him is the Emperor.
- 45:24Speaker 3: He sits down with a man.
- 45:26Speaker 1: A pretty decent role model for him.
- 45:27Speaker 3: It's like they're in their space opera. They're in their
- 45:29Speaker 3: box seats. It's like, what's up, Anakin?
- 45:31Speaker 4: I mean, let's talk about it. I feel pretty bad.
- 45:34Speaker 2: Really?
- 45:34Speaker 3: You shouldn't feel bad.
- 45:35Speaker 4: Palpatine is not only running the Republic, he's secretly running the...
- 45:42Speaker 4: Trade Federation, he's sickly running both sides of this galactic,
- 45:46Speaker 4: galactic civil war.
- 45:48Speaker 3: That is a lot of plate spinning.
- 45:49Speaker 4: Yes, he has so many balls in the freaking air,
- 45:52Speaker 4: and yet he still can take five minutes to sit
- 45:55Speaker 4: down and talk with Anakin, tell him a little story,
- 45:59Speaker 4: but then you go to Yoda, and he's like, just
- 46:01Speaker 4: bury your feelings and don't think about it.
- 46:03Speaker 3: Push it down to a small point in your chest.
- 46:06Speaker 3: And then swallow it.
- 46:07Speaker 1: That's the thing. I've gone back and rewatched those first three.
- 46:11Speaker 1: And like, as much as I still have a whole
- 46:14Speaker 1: lot of problems with them, what I've come to is like,
- 46:17Speaker 1: kind of respect that emperor. I'm like, he's a man
- 46:20Speaker 1: who knows what he wants. He goes to great lengths
- 46:23Speaker 1: to get, like, if you go back and watch Phantom Menace,
- 46:25Speaker 1: it is ridiculous how well orchestrated this bullshit battle is
- 46:30Speaker 1: that's going on, and every end of it is covered
- 46:33Speaker 1: by that same guy. He has to win, because he's
- 46:36Speaker 1: been so smart about it, he's covered every angle.
- 46:39Speaker 4: And he's patient. Yes!
- 46:40Speaker 3: I mean, we look at Anakin. Okay, here's an eight-year-old
- 46:42Speaker 3: kid who's been a slave.
- 46:44Speaker 4: A slave.
- 46:44Speaker 3: They never really go into that, but he's a freaking slave.
- 46:47Speaker 3: Him and his mom. That cute little buzz thing that
- 46:51Speaker 3: owns him. Owns him. Okay, so the Jedi win him.
- 46:57Speaker 6: Okay?
- 46:58Speaker 3: They gamble, and he is won.
- 47:00Speaker 2: Yes.
- 47:01Speaker 4: Bought and sold.
- 47:02Speaker 3: That's right. His title goes over to the Jedi.
- 47:04Speaker 1: Okay. You have to go take it down to the SMV.
- 47:06Speaker 4: Get a little Kente here. So they get it.
- 47:09Speaker 3: It's like, okay, this kid may be like crap ton powerful, right?
- 47:13Speaker 4: Did they ever.
- 47:14Speaker 3: Think about buying his mom? No, we'll just leave his
- 47:17Speaker 3: mom in slavery.
- 47:18Speaker 1: Well, no, that's even like the lesser of the evils.
- 47:21Speaker 3: To me, it's... Oh, slavery is the lesser of the.
- 47:25Speaker 1: No, the mom, the one person. The fact that you
- 47:29Speaker 1: hear our hero, Qui-Gon Jinn, say, I'm not here to
- 47:33Speaker 1: free slaves. Are you not a Jedi?
- 47:37Speaker 4: I'm a morally superior Jedi. Does the Jedi.
- 47:40Speaker 1: Stand for anything? You're okay with slavery?
- 47:44Speaker 3: I get that they're in a bad spot. I don't
- 47:45Speaker 3: have an extra $ 10, 000 on me. But, you know, they
- 47:48Speaker 3: go back to their temple. Their temple.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Okay, now we're just making fun of the Vatican, right?
- 47:54Speaker 1: Oh yeah, there's lots of problems.
- 47:55Speaker 3: They don't even have to go back to Tatooine. They
- 47:57Speaker 3: can just wire the guy some money, get the guy,
- 48:00Speaker 3: set her up in a nice apartment somewhere. I mean,
- 48:02Speaker 3: she doesn't have to be in the temple.
- 48:04Speaker 4: But You've got to get rid of all your attachments, man.
- 48:06Speaker 1: Or if you like, okay, once you get your, at
- 48:08Speaker 1: this point you're trying to protect the queen. Okay, get
- 48:12Speaker 1: her out of there. Go back. Now come back with
- 48:15Speaker 1: a battalion of Jedi. Sure. And kick everybody's ass and
- 48:19Speaker 1: free the slaves and then take them across the desert
- 48:22Speaker 1: or whatever you do after you free your slaves. But
- 48:24Speaker 1: I'm like, there's so many other ways that that could
- 48:27Speaker 1: have been handled.
- 48:28Speaker 4: Padme Amalama Ding Dong, she even made the point when
- 48:31Speaker 4: they're sitting in the hut having dinner, talking to Shmi,
- 48:37Speaker 4: you know, that she's like, I can't believe that slavery
- 48:40Speaker 4: is so allowed to exist in the galaxy.
- 48:41Speaker 1: It's so horrible.
- 48:43Speaker 4: And she's a freaking senator.
- 48:45Speaker 3: No, she's a queen at that point.
- 48:46Speaker 4: She's a queen, but she becomes a senator. So you
- 48:48Speaker 4: would think when she gets into public office in the Senate,
- 48:52Speaker 4: she's like, hey. A couple years ago, I heard there
- 48:55Speaker 4: was slavery on this planet. Can we maybe pass a
- 48:58Speaker 4: motion to, you know, free the slaves?
- 49:01Speaker 1: Space Senate, may I bring up a motion to not
- 49:05Speaker 1: do horrible things? Just a funny idea I was having.
- 49:08Speaker 4: Slavery bad.
- 49:09Speaker 3: Okay, can we all agree that slavery is bad except
- 49:11Speaker 3: for the slavery planets?
- 49:12Speaker 1: Well, I mean, not so much in the Waddle world.
- 49:14Speaker 4: But they were letting the Hutts rule Tatooine the way
- 49:17Speaker 4: people say we should have let Saddam Hussein keep running Iraq. Sure,
- 49:22Speaker 4: he was a vile gangster, but he kept it under control.
- 49:25Speaker 1: At least he was the one main vile gangster.
- 49:28Speaker 3: You knew what you were dealing with when you dealt
- 49:29Speaker 3: with it. But okay, when Anakin's having all the fever
- 49:32Speaker 3: dreams about his mom dying, it's like, did he call her?
- 49:36Speaker 3: Did he just take a Jedi ship? It's like, you
- 49:38Speaker 3: know what? I'm going to take a couple weeks off.
- 49:41Speaker 1: See, again, that's the Jedi downfall.
- 49:43Speaker 4: It was a long, long time ago. They didn't have
- 49:45Speaker 4: long distance or Wi-Fi or cell phones or anything, man.
- 49:48Speaker 1: In general, it's like, as far as we can tell,
- 49:51Speaker 1: between one and two, he never sees her again. Like,
- 49:55Speaker 1: there's no, hey, go back. I got a weekend to
- 49:58Speaker 1: go visit my mom. That's what I'm saying. That's the
- 50:01Speaker 1: evils and the downfall of the Jedi is that they're
- 50:04Speaker 1: just like, nah, you don't need any attachments. I'm like, well, hey,
- 50:08Speaker 1: guess what he kind of does? Because that would have
- 50:10Speaker 1: been the one thing that tethered him to reality and
- 50:13Speaker 1: didn't make him go off the deep end and destroy
- 50:15Speaker 1: the universe.
- 50:15Speaker 4: The one thing about the prequels that George Lucas did
- 50:18Speaker 4: to me is he completely ruined my attitude about Yoda.
- 50:22Speaker 4: I mean, I used to think Yoda, oh, he's so
- 50:24Speaker 4: wise and cool. Now I think he was an idiot.
- 50:26Speaker 4: Yoda was full of crap. I was a selfish idiot.
- 50:29Speaker 1: I put him in two different categories. This is my rationalizing.
- 50:32Speaker 1: This is how geeks deal with things. I'm like, Empire
- 50:35Speaker 1: Yoda is still cool because he exists in that box
- 50:38Speaker 1: where all I knew was Empire, and Empire was awesome,
- 50:40Speaker 1: and it still is. So for me, that's its own thing.
- 50:43Speaker 1: It exists in that time where I hadn't seen anything
- 50:46Speaker 1: but four and five. So I'm like, from that aspect,
- 50:49Speaker 1: and because he doesn't match within the continuity, like that
- 50:52Speaker 1: weird little game he plays at the beginning makes no sense,
- 50:54Speaker 1: by the way. And if you watch them in numerical order,
- 50:58Speaker 1: makes no sense, by the way. No, we don't understand
- 51:01Speaker 1: who this is. We've watched all these movies with Yoda
- 51:03Speaker 1: in it, but somehow he's going to trick us as
- 51:06Speaker 1: the audience that that might not be Yoda. Again, it's
- 51:09Speaker 1: like loopholes in the logic when he's piecing together this
- 51:12Speaker 1: watching them in numerical order nonsense. So that aside, I'm
- 51:16Speaker 1: like that. He's pretty awesome as this like us just
- 51:20Speaker 1: sort of expanding what Jedis are and learning more about
- 51:23Speaker 1: the force and blah, blah, whatever. You go back to
- 51:26Speaker 1: the one through three, and he's horrible, and not just
- 51:29Speaker 1: the CG and the puppet, if you go back far enough.
- 51:32Speaker 1: They were all really bad looking, but on top of that,
- 51:35Speaker 1: everything he represents is wrong and kind of stupid. So
- 51:41Speaker 1: it's like, I really don't like the Jedi in general,
- 51:44Speaker 1: once we go back. When we didn't know what they were,
- 51:47Speaker 1: they sounded mysterious and cool and badass. And then we
- 51:50Speaker 1: get back and we're like, well, they're badass, but... Powerful-wise,
- 51:53Speaker 1: but they have no sense. They don't know how to
- 51:55Speaker 1: run anything. They've been running this for eons, more or less,
- 51:59Speaker 1: and yet along the way, they've neglected to figure out
- 52:03Speaker 1: a good way to not, I don't know, steal people's
- 52:06Speaker 1: children and keep them away from them.
- 52:07Speaker 4: Can I add a footnote to that? The prequels, though,
- 52:11Speaker 4: kind of.
- 52:13Speaker 4: I can't separate Empire Yoda from the prequels because in Empire,
- 52:19Speaker 4: he basically gives Luke the same advice that he gives Anakin.
- 52:23Speaker 4: He's like, you know, Luke has this vision. My friends
- 52:26Speaker 4: are going to die. I have to go save them.
- 52:28Speaker 4: And Yoda's like, no, you can't. You have to stay here. And,
- 52:32Speaker 4: you know, he should know how good his advice worked
- 52:35Speaker 4: out the last time he gave that to someone named Skywalker.
- 52:38Speaker 1: There's the reason I have to go back. It's because
- 52:41Speaker 1: you messed this up, jackass.
- 52:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like maybe Yoda would have evolved and was like,
- 52:46Speaker 4: you know what? Maybe attachments aren't so bad. Maybe you
- 52:49Speaker 4: should go and try to help him.
- 52:51Speaker 3: That didn't work.
- 52:52Speaker 4: Let's try the other thing.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Again, at that point, it's more of like him trying to, like,
- 52:58Speaker 1: Make that, again, maybe it is just him trying to
- 53:00Speaker 1: cover his own ass. He's like, what I need to
- 53:02Speaker 1: do is get rid of this Vader guy because I
- 53:05Speaker 1: screw things up. And if I let you go now,
- 53:07Speaker 1: he's probably going to chop your arm off. He might
- 53:09Speaker 1: kill you. He might blackmail you. He might trick you
- 53:13Speaker 1: into taking over the whole universe with him. But if
- 53:15Speaker 1: I finish your training, I completely brainwash you so that
- 53:19Speaker 1: you know that you have to do what I tell you.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Then you'll be trained enough that you can kill Vader
- 53:23Speaker 1: and you can cover up my last little screw up.
- 53:25Speaker 3: Can I talk in defense of the emperor one more time?
- 53:28Speaker 1: Oh, please do.
- 53:29Speaker 3: So he's basically got two warring factions on a galactic
- 53:32Speaker 3: scale going at each other. And his office is basically
- 53:35Speaker 3: 10 feet down the hall from the Jedi, the all-powerful
- 53:39Speaker 3: Jedi who can sense the blah, blah, blah. He's hiding
- 53:42Speaker 3: his own massively evil aura.
- 53:44Speaker 4: Thoughts and everything.
- 53:45Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's like, he's doing all this. He's getting
- 53:48Speaker 3: under the skin of, like, their golden boy. And he's
- 53:50Speaker 3: literally five feet away. He's in the same meeting. And
- 53:53Speaker 3: I was like, you know what?
- 53:55Speaker 1: If I'm that powerful.
- 53:55Speaker 4: Landlined office. Yeah. You gotta admire the guy.
- 54:01Speaker 3: That guy had a work ethic.
- 54:03Speaker 1: I tell you, one of my favorite.
- 54:04Speaker 4: Things about Revenge of the Sith is when he's having
- 54:07Speaker 4: the lightsaber battle with Yoda. And he's laughing. He's enjoying himself.
- 54:12Speaker 4: He's like, this is the best day I've ever had.
- 54:14Speaker 4: These 50 years of planning and scheming, it's all come together.
- 54:20Speaker 4: And it worked. And I'm winning. He was like, who
- 54:23Speaker 4: was the guy who had the tiger blood? Charlie Sheen? Yeah,
- 54:27Speaker 4: he was winning. He was like, look at me, Yoda.
- 54:31Speaker 1: I'm winning.
- 54:35Speaker 3: Oh, no more hiding. This is my day. I am
- 54:41Speaker 3: having a great day.
- 54:42Speaker 4: You had said something earlier. In the original Star Wars,
- 54:46Speaker 4: we're told the Empire is evil and we just accept it.
- 54:50Speaker 4: But you really don't see them do too many evil things.
- 54:53Speaker 4: I think I've talked about this before, so cut this out.
- 54:57Speaker 4: It's like when you think about it, Obi-Wan Kenobi is
- 55:00Speaker 4: sort of the He's like the crazy guy in Montana
- 55:04Speaker 4: living in a shack writing these manifestos. And, you know,
- 55:09Speaker 4: he's there and he's kind of got like this secret
- 55:11Speaker 4: weapon in training. He's got Luke Skywater. He's kind of
- 55:15Speaker 4: like watching over, you know, he's secretly prodding him and
- 55:19Speaker 4: getting powerful and all that. And, you know, because his
- 55:22Speaker 4: big plan is to take down the government. Just like
- 55:24Speaker 4: a guy living in a hut in Montana. He wants
- 55:27Speaker 4: to take down the government. So he's telling Luke, oh,
- 55:31Speaker 4: the government is evil. Here, watch this Fox News report. Oh,
- 55:36Speaker 4: my gosh. The Empire is so evil. But then he
- 55:39Speaker 4: realizes that Luke needs a 9-11 moment to really motivate him.
- 55:45Speaker 4: So whenever the accident happens, it was a grease fire
- 55:50Speaker 4: that killed Luke. Uncle Owen and Amber Rue, that's what
- 55:53Speaker 4: burned them down. Sure it was. But, you know, Obi-Wan
- 55:56Speaker 4: tells Luke, ah, it was the Empire who killed them.
- 56:00Speaker 4: You want to get even with them, don't you? Right?
- 56:03Speaker 1: I mean, again, many other geek out there, which I
- 56:07Speaker 1: may have listened to on another show, have an entire
- 56:08Speaker 1: theory that that was all Ben Kenobi. Ben went in
- 56:13Speaker 1: and offed everyone. Like, Ben killed the Jawas to start
- 56:16Speaker 1: the whole thing. Ben went over there, killed... Uncle Owen
- 56:20Speaker 1: and Aunt Beru to give an inciting, some sort of
- 56:24Speaker 1: reason for Luke to follow him on.
- 56:26Speaker 4: His crazy full journey. It was the Battleship Maine.
- 56:30Speaker 1: All over again. It's so, I mean, that theory is
- 56:32Speaker 1: definitely out there.
- 56:33Speaker 4: The Gulf of Tonkin all over again, man. I'm telling you.
- 56:37Speaker 4: Alderaan was a grease fire.
- 56:38Speaker 2: Yes.
- 56:41Speaker 4: There was no Alderaan. I mean, have you seen the footage?
- 56:45Speaker 4: There should be wreckage, and there's no wreckage. Alderaan was
- 56:49Speaker 4: not blown up. It didn't go into the Pentagon. There
- 56:52Speaker 4: would be body parts floating around. You don't see any
- 56:56Speaker 4: body parts. Alderaan, that was totally a fake.
- 56:59Speaker 1: I'll tell you what, it was an inside job is
- 57:03Speaker 1: what it was.
- 57:03Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 57:05Speaker 1: Alderaan destroyed itself.
- 57:06Speaker 4: Space Alex Jones puts a very compelling argument if you
- 57:10Speaker 4: just buy his video. I'm telling you, man.
- 57:12Speaker 3: Alderaan, whoops.
- 57:16Speaker 4: Why would they be going on a diplomatic mission to
- 57:18Speaker 4: Alderaan if Alderaan is in the Republic?
- 57:22Speaker 1: And isn't that her home?
- 57:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 57:24Speaker 1: Why is she going on a diplomatic mission to her
- 57:26Speaker 1: dad's house?
- 57:27Speaker 4: It's like we're going on a diplomatic mission to Idaho.
- 57:31Speaker 4: Send the ambassador to Idaho.
- 57:35Speaker 1: Again, there's great leaps of logic in the Star Wars universe. Like, okay....
- 57:43Speaker 4: Is anybody listening? We talk about Star Wars way too much.
- 57:45Speaker 4: Do you think anyone's still listening? Probably not.
- 57:47Speaker 1: We can change gears in a minute. But this was
- 57:50Speaker 1: one that for years, growing up as a kid, you
- 57:53Speaker 1: just watched this and everything was like, that's the way
- 57:55Speaker 1: it is. You didn't think about it. But later you
- 57:58Speaker 1: hit a point where you're like, okay, wait. You've got
- 58:00Speaker 1: the most evil dude in the universe. He has this
- 58:05Speaker 1: kid or kids. That he doesn't even know about. And
- 58:08Speaker 1: the only hope for the future is to keep them
- 58:10Speaker 1: away from him. Let's hide him. Let's hide him. And, oh, wait,
- 58:14Speaker 1: we're not going to change his last name, though.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Nah.
- 58:16Speaker 1: It's Skywalker. Now, where can we put him? Oh, how
- 58:19Speaker 1: about the planet he was on and his mother lived
- 58:24Speaker 1: and died on?
- 58:25Speaker 3: Just give it to the uncle and aunt. I mean,
- 58:26Speaker 3: come on. Also named Skywalker.
- 58:28Speaker 1: Family that he actually met and hung out with. or
- 58:32Speaker 1: may not have left a robot with along the way.
- 58:34Speaker 1: But no, no. That totally makes sense.
- 58:37Speaker 4: But they had an ace in the hole. They had
- 58:39Speaker 4: Princess Leia Skywalker, who they changed the last name just
- 58:43Speaker 4: in case.
- 58:44Speaker 1: Just because they gave him the space Jimmy Smith.
- 58:47Speaker 4: And also, let's make sure. Hiding in plain sight.
- 58:49Speaker 3: That's all we're saying. Also, R2 knows the entire story.
- 58:52Speaker 1: Oh, that's.
- 58:53Speaker 2: R2.
- 58:54Speaker 1: That we've, yeah, I've ran over that lately, too. I'm like,
- 58:57Speaker 1: there's a, especially if you watch one through three, it's like.
- 59:00Speaker 3: Who knows the entire story?
- 59:01Speaker 4: That explains why R2 is not functioning good in Force Awakens.
- 59:07Speaker 3: He can't even.
- 59:08Speaker 1: No, it's because they have.
- 59:13Speaker 4: Left R2-D2 on, turned on since the Phantom Menace.
- 59:17Speaker 3: He's like a Mac. You've got to turn him off
- 59:19Speaker 3: and turn him on again every now and then.
- 59:20Speaker 4: You've got to reboot.
- 59:21Speaker 1: That's what he did. He rebooted.
- 59:22Speaker 4: His memory is full, man. He's got so many programs
- 59:26Speaker 4: that have been running for over 80 years. Like, C-3PO
- 59:30Speaker 4: gets turned off every hour or so.
- 59:32Speaker 1: Every hour he doesn't shut up.
- 59:34Speaker 4: They, like, wipe his memory every three movies. He gets
- 59:39Speaker 4: a whole new operating system. R2 is still running Windows 95, basically.
- 59:44Speaker 4: That's why he broke down in Force Awakens.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Well, that's what, I mean, again, when you go back,
- 59:50Speaker 1: if you're watching these, as the geeks that we are,
- 59:53Speaker 1: I'm just like, okay.
- 59:57Speaker 1: R2 is hanging out with Darth Vader. Like, they fly
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: a ship together and destroy the army. Like, they save
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: the whole battle, the whole Phantom Manus nonsense. Then later,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: he's flying around with him. Like, he's his companion the
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: whole series of movies. And then at the end, they
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: conveniently wipe out 3PO' s memory, but they never mention R2.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: So he goes into all this going, so I think
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: that's it. By the time we get to episode seven,
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: he's just like, Oh, for God's sakes, another Skywalker messing
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: stuff up.
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: Like, no.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: Just go away.
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: Does R2 ever meet Darth Vader? I don't think he does.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: As Darth? I mean, they're in Empire. They're all in
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: the same space.
- 1:00:39Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: They're not, like, hanging out chatting or anything.
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: But he's never in, like, the same room where... Darth
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: Vader would look at him and go ahead.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: No, because when they had dinner, because he did have
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: dinner with half of our.
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: Crew, but he was on Dagobah. Yeah, he was on Dagobah.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: 3PO got to hang out with him. They should have
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: had some nice talking.
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: And the door shut before they.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: Vader shot R2, but it was from a distance.
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: Damn it.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: He blew up his own friend. Aw. That's not cool.
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: That's not cool at all, man.
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: You don't have to kill so many children.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: Those kids were asking for it.
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: They were better off.
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: Really?
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: They never would have gotten to see their parents.
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: It's like a UFO cult. Put on your Nikes and die.
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: Join the Jedi.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: Here, kids, you're going to see your parents.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: This is the only way you're going to see your parents.
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: We took them out about three hours ago. That's good.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: That's good stuff. Have you read any of the.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: New stuff that's.
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: Supposed to explain the political politics.
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: Of it all?
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: I don't want homework when I watch a movie. Just
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: cut right to the point.
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: Apparently that Bloodline book explains a lot.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: I've not.
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: Because you really invested into the original novels. I did
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: for a while. Have you given up on it?
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: They still exist. They're just in a side, separate little
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: universe over here.
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: Whatever.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: They didn't take them out of existence.
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: They came in, they took all my books.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: They lit them on fire and they laughed at you.
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: Space Nazi.
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: They gave me a voucher.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: He went, ha ha, legends.
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: Luke Skywalker's never married. Never.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: Can't prove a thing. There was nobody else on that
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: island planet.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: It's the island planet.
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: It was an ocean planet with like one island.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: And how did he get there? He didn't have R2
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: flying with him. He can't pilot a ship by himself.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: We all know R2 does all the work.
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: No, we.
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: We've seen Luke crashes his X-Wing.
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: No.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Well, I didn't say that's why. I didn't say why
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: didn't he come back. His X-Wing is there.
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: We know why he didn't come back.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: He crashed it.
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: There are pieces of it all over the aisle.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: It's not like he was hiding. He was just like,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: I don't have a ship, man.
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: He was standing on that cliff because he was like.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: He was waiting to flag people down.
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: Oh, I can kind of see the wing today. The
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: tide has come out a little bit.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: No, he's just standing up there with torches, waving them
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: back and forth. I've been waiting. He's got help spelled
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: out logs behind him. For the love of God, somebody
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: fly over.
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: He's on the Gilligan's Island planet.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: My hand stopped working like three years ago.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: Wait a minute. Is this because he's by himself on
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: a planet? Because that is crossing a line.
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: Oh, it's like the stranger, only taken to the extreme.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: Well, I guess you could switch off your sensation that.
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: Leads to that.
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: You lost all the skin. It'd be like an erector set.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: Maybe that's what happened.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: I said erector set.
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: So have we thoroughly covered this topic of sci-fi universes
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: and whatnot?
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: Not even scratched the surface.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: Lowly is the undisputed master of martial arts. A savage.
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: A saint. A stranger.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: Lee Van Cleef is the legendary man of iron. A gambler.
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: A gentleman.
- 1:04:05Speaker 8: Don't get offended.
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: But he just wants to see.
- 1:04:08Speaker 7: Your, uh....
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: A gunfighter.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: Now, from Columbia Pictures.
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: Welcome to Monterey.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: The Stranger and the Gunfighter.
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: The hangin' town.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: The most brutal hands in the East join with the
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: fastest gun of the West in an unusual search for
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: a fortune in gold. The Stranger, the Gunfighter, and the Gold.
- 1:04:36Speaker 7: Am I on the right road?
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: Not only are you on the right road, but you
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: arrive at your destination.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: Lee Van Cleef, the meanest man in the West. He
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: wants the gold, and he means to get it. Lo Lee,
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: the kung fu fighting star of the Five Fingers of Death.
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: His fists are lethal weapons, and his body, an arsenal
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: of destruction. Two fantastic fighting machines. Lowly Van Cleef. The
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: Stranger and the Gunfighter. Together, they can do anything.
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: Hey, I'm Greg Sestero and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: Leave your stupid comments in your pocket.
- 1:05:54Speaker 7: Okay, okay, like.
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: One of the things we did with the war record
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: was our action figure stuff. What was your favorite Star
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: Wars toy growing up, Brian?
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: Oh, are we talking overall? Initial run? Like, that's the thing.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: As we get, like, my... When you were a kid.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: When you were at that sweet, sweet age. The first
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: thing that popped into my head is Slave 1. I
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: still have that Slave 1. I think Slave 1's freaking awesome.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: I didn't even have a ton of the... boxed bigger
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: stuff as it went on i started with one really
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: cool thing at the beginning and then after that i
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: got less and less of the like sets and i
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: don't half of the bigger ships and stuff i never
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: had but i got slave one and that was kind
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: of like the coolest thing ever because again boba fett
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: was the coolest dude in the universe i never had
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: it it still never went away like now they've you
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: know they kill him off in the dumbest way possible
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: they make him like have a dumb backstory and appearance
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: as a child and all this other crap I could
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: care less about.
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: He's from a planet of bounty hunters.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: Yeah, he is. And now there's four million people with
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: his armor because clones, who knows, whatever. I don't know.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: They do a lot of weird retconning of crap that
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: I do not care about. He's still badass.
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: I never had the slave one. I don't remember. It
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: was never an option for me to have, apparently. But
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: was it?
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: I flew it wrong.
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: It seemed like there was a lot of wasted space
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: in it. Well, no. Because he just sat in the cockpit, right?
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: The rest is storage.
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: It's cargo. You're hunting bounties. You've got to put them somewhere.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: Much like the Falcon. You've got to store a lot
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: of crap.
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: That was my complaint about the Millennium Falcon, which was
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: my favorite toy, was the Millennium Falcon ship.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: See, I didn't have that.
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: But it's like there was that cardboard insert that kind
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: of divided the ship into half. And I always would think,
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: There's all this unused space beyond the cardboard insert. Well,
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: that's where the rec room was.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: You know, you had like a Han and Chu foosball table.
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: Cool stuff.
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: Bump beds. Hell yeah, he did.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: That place was cool.
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: As a kid, I would sit and stare at that
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: little cardboard wall and wonder, dare I cut a hole
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: in it? Dare I make a door? To go explore
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: the rest of the Falcons.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: What's wrong with you?
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: I never did, but I really thought about it. I
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: really wanted to make a door, tear down that wall,
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: reunite East and West Falcon, and.
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: It was a load-bearing wall.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: Just see what was in there, man. The whole Falcon collapses.
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: Ah, what have I done?
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: I know, load-bearing cardboard.
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: Or worse, what if it really is like that's the
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: alternate universe? And on the other side, there's like a
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: Han Solo with a goatee. And there's like a naked Wookiee.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: And they're just like, what the hell is this going
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: on over here? Like, you don't need to know what's
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: going on in the mirror universe.
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: That's where the sexy party is.
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: But, you know, I wonder what's going on in the
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: other half of the Falcon. I've still got that Falcon.
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: I could go home tonight and cut a door in it, man.
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: Where's my X-Acto?
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: See what's going on. Maybe I should just drill a
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: little hole. Put like a little pinhole put like a
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: little camera in you know just like see what's going.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: On send in the uh plug it plug it plug it.
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: Plug it when i would see slave one the the
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: toy the the photos it didn't look like there was
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: there wasn't like it was just the pilot seat right
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: there wasn't anything else too.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: Again i And I don't know how much of this
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: was just what I wanted to do or how much
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: I didn't watch the movie over and over and over
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: again because I didn't have it on Blu-ray back in
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: the 1900s. So, again, you saw it like that once
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: or twice in the theater. And after that, you get
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: a little fuzzy. So I don't remember it flying wrong. So, like,
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: as a kid, I still flew it. The way that
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: aerodynamically makes sense, like, it sits. Like, the guns are
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: up front if you don't twist them. So it's like
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: he sits, you know. And, again, I didn't, like, it
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: still seems like you would just sit normal in it,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: not lay down and shift your way up.
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: When the elephant heads.
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: And it would still, yeah. And then I remember going
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: back after, I guess, they started playing it on cable
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: or I got it on some format. And I'm just like, wait, what?
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: It's flying all sideways. Like, what the hell is that?
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: It looked wrong to you, right?
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: It does. It's still to this day, I'm like, that's
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: not how you fly a ship. It's wrong. Because it's
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: still a cool ship, but in my mind, I know
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: it's space. It doesn't need to be aerodynamic. But it
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: still seems to make sense. Granted, the thrusters are on
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: the bottom.
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: But it's weird. Were the thrusters there?
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: Yeah, they're where the handle is. Now, I don't know
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: if there's a handle in the one he's actually flying
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: around on, but it seems like that would be a
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: little weird. It's like, What's this giant handle doing under here?
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: That's God's handle.
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: Isn't it strange to think that Kenner was located in Cincinnati,
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: just right up the road from us?
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: He could have gone there and seen a building full
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: of slave ones.
- 1:10:41Speaker 4: When I was a kid, I thought it came from
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: like California or something. Can you imagine that if I
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: had a cool dad, I could have asked him, can
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: we go to the factory and just look in the
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: dumpster or something? That would have been great.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: Are you saying your dad's not cool?
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: I bet I could have found the Boba Fett with
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: the rocket firing backpack because they toss it out in
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: the dumpster.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: And within two minutes, you would have been missing an eye.
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: No, he would have been choked.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: This is great.
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: No, no, it was a choking hazard.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: He would have shot his eye out.
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: And then choked on it.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, he very well would have then pulled it
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: out to show him.
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: It went through the eye, into the mouth.
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: So you still have slave one, right?
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: Yes, I do.
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: How has it held up over the years?
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: It's a battle damage.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: I mean, I played with all my toys. I wasn't
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: a total freak then. I didn't, like, leave shit in
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: the packages. But, like, I was pretty respectful of mine,
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: I think, because I knew I wasn't going to keep
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: getting them. You didn't go and buy six of the
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: same thing.
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: It's your one and only chance.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: Don't be breaking your stuff. So, yeah, I took pretty
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: good care of my toys.
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: Has it gotten yellow? Are the stickers falling off?
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: Stickers are doing okay, I think. Again, I think there's
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: a little wear and tear on the stickers. Where is
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: it now? The rest of it's holding up. God only knows.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: I've moved 16 times since then.
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: Is it safely in a box?
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: It's in a box somewhere.
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: Is it well padded?
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: Probably if I know me. I don't pack up my
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: plates properly, but my toys are wrapped individually.
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: Or little tires off on little cinder blocks. They didn't
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: make a slave, too. Come on, man. Gotta take care
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: of it.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: Do you know they didn't?
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: Did they? I don't know.
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: I like that question.
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: What was your favorite Star Wars toy, Dave?
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: I liked the X-Wing. The X-Wing was just so aerodynamic.
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: It cut through the air, and then the cannons would
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: fall off if you did.
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: It just right.
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: So, you know, battle damage.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: I like toys that break.
- 1:12:42Speaker 4: Did you have the original X-Wing or the Empire Strikes
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: Back X-Wing?
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: No, no, the original.
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: Because the Empire Strikes Back X-Wing had the battle damage stickers.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: And if you put the battle damage stickers on, they
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: weren't coming off. You had a permanently battle damaged X-Wing,
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: which I thought was short-sighted.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: And it made you go and park it sideways in
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: your sandbox and then dump a lot of water on it.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: It forced you to do that. It's the Empire X-Wing.
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: You can't have it any other way.
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: Way to go, Luke. It does not land. It has
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: no landing gear. I remember when I was a kid,
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: being angry. That it wasn't an actual R2-D2. It was
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: just a button.
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a button.
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: Because in my little kid brain, I was like, well,
- 1:13:23Speaker 4: the Luke figure can get in. Why can't the R2
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: figure get in?
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: But it's functional.
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: But it was just like.
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: You had to use the magic of your mind to go.
- 1:13:33Speaker 4: It did give me the option of letting me take
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: my little toy, R2-D2, activating his leg thrusters and flying
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: it to the X-Wing. Oh, that's right.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: He didn't have leg thrusters. See, that's something that annoys
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: me is that they didn't explain it. Like, if you
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: want to retcon that in, that's one thing, but then
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: show them getting damaged at the end of Attack of
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: the Clones or when they're like, wipe that 3PO' s memory
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: and take those damn boosters out of that R2 unit.
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: That's a fire hazard.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: Something that makes sense. Yeah.
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: There are kids on this ship. If they would have
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: just wiped R2' s memory, he could have forgotten that he
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: had leg thrusters.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: And one day just.
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. This works, though.
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: The hell?
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: But see, that's the other. Like, spatially, he at least
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: fit into that X-Wing fighter. Now, it's been brought to
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: my attention by other geeks in the world now.
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: Oh, yes.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: That within, if you go, if you acknowledge those, you know,
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: one through threes. If you watch the first one, that
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: weird yellow ship that they, like, fly up there in,
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: he really doesn't even fit in. Like, the dome pops out,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: but the body doesn't really fit where it should be.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: So maybe it's also just a button.
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: In the real world. Well, maybe, like, so at one,
- 1:14:42Speaker 4: he's reclining and just sticking his head in.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: He just leans his way sideways-like. That could be. That
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: could be. At R2, he knows how to kick back.
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: He's a good droid. Might have been.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: Did you have a TIE fighter, Dave?
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:14:56Speaker 8: Oh, yes.
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: Oh, so.
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: The battle damage wings that go pew!
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. And never quite go back after a while.
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: Did you ever take one of your Luke Skywalker's or
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: Han Solo's and make them fly the TIE fighter? It
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: always felt wrong to me. No, it always felt wrong
- 1:15:14Speaker 4: to me.
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: I did it, and I liked it. It was awesome.
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: What if they were in an elaborate backstory of why
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: they were in it?
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: What if they were in the Stormtrooper gear? Would that
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: be close enough? You'd be like, well, they're almost Stormtroopers. Now,
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: they're not TIE Fighters.
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: In 1979, 1980, when I had this, there was no fair.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: At the very end of the run, they did those.
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: I never had those.
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: I wasn't really.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. I think I didn't know they had
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: them until years later when I saw them in a magazine. Wait,
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: they did those then? Because I remember that Power of
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: the Force run when you could mail in and get
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: those with the helmets that came off.
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: I was kind of out of it by then.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: But supposedly, yeah, in that very end of the Jedi run,
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: I think they started doing some older Star Wars redo.
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: I remember the last toy I got was the speeder
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: bike because I thought it was neat. But I didn't
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: get any of the big ships or anything.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I bought them.
- 1:16:04Speaker 6: I'm trying to think.
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: It was like Empire and the original Star Wars. That
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: was my golden period.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: Yeah, Empire. I got a ton of Empire stuff.
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I stocked up. I stocked up by Jedi.
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: Jedi, I remember, and I had some of the stuff.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: I got, again, I think the figures. I just didn't
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: get a lot of big stuff. Yeah, I got figures.
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: Because I've got a low gray somewhere.
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: I've got one.
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: I'm trying to think what else.
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: Do you have Ugnaughts?
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: No. I think I've gotten one since because I found
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: it for cheap because I don't think I did at
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: the time. But I found an original one that was
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: like a couple of bucks. I was like, oh, I
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: never had this one.
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: I never had a Dengar. I got a Dengar.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: See, I had a Dengar.
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: Because I found it for like a dollar. And I
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: was like, what the hell? I'm getting me a Dengar.
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: He's a bounty hunter.
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: He's the sad, sad, broken old man. I really relate
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: to him. That's why I figured I wanted to get him.
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: Valley hunting's hard, man.
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: He had a horrible accident just days before Empire was shot.
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: It's like, oh, finally, I get to lay my bet.
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: Who called? Oh, crap. All right. Wrap me up.
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: He was flipping a hamburger, and the grease got out
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: of control, and the next thing I know.
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: He blew up.
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: Wrap me up.
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: Change my bandages. I got a job.
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: It was kind of interesting because it was a figure
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: I had never played with when I was a kid.
- 1:17:25Speaker 4: But it was from that time. So it was like
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: seeing some sort of weird alternate reality. It's something I
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: should be really... I should know every button on this
- 1:17:40Speaker 4: guy's backpack, but I don't because I didn't have him.
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: But he's from that same time.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: You were slacking as a child. You were not fulfilling
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: your childhood duties.
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: It was a road not taken.
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: Did it ever make you guys angry? Your little children
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: nerd rage that Luke always had a yellow lightsaber?
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: Only in that first run. I don't think that one
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: they changed. It's weird that they kept changing those.
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: In Empire he had a yellow lightsaber too.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: In the toy?
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: I don't like how they call them, Bespin Han and
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: Bespin Luke, because they were wearing that crap before they
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: got to Bespin Luke.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: See, again, I don't think... No, I had the Dagobah Luke,
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: which he came with blue. No. Because that's the thing.
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: I didn't get a ton of.
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: You're thinking of 1995 stuff.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: I never had a yellow in anything except in the
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: original one. Consult the book of knowledge. But they kept
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: changing those. That's the thing. Even in Jedi, that first
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: run that came out, he had blue.
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: And then the second wave, that did happen.
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: But the empire luke was always uh yellow.
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: I'm not buying that kenner does what they want and
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: they change shit all the time that's why some yodas
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: had an orange snake some had a brown snake just
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: to mess with you because you got the first one
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: going look i finally got yoda nobody else has yoda
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: two weeks later your friend down the street has a
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: brown snake and your orange snake looks stupid Snakes aren't orange.
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: Well, all I'm saying is, like, I just remember. Space snakes.
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: Space snakes. Because I actually had it, and it's just, yeah, like,
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: that Luke always had a yellow lightsaber.
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: That is not the one I had.
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: Okay. I am looking at a Bespin Luke.
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: I had a Freeform, because that was the only. Yeah.
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: With a yellow hair and a yellow lightsaber.
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: Zoom in.
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: Oh, sure. Zoom in, eh?
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: Is that the head from the original Star Wars?
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: It kind of looks like it.
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: It's the same mold as the original karate shirt Luke.
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: And that guy had yellow hair too. But he's holding
- 1:19:50Speaker 4: a yellow lightsaber.
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: That is not the one I had. So obviously I
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: got the second wave.
- 1:19:55Speaker 4: You might have done what I did. Once I got
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: a Return of the Jedi Luke that first came with
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: a blue lightsaber. I gave it to my best friend, Luke.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: Well, that's just cheating.
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: With a removable hand slash shocking hazard.
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: The reason the Return of the Jedi, Luke, originally came
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: with a blue.
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: They didn't want to spoil it.
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: The reason it originally came with a blue lightsaber is
- 1:20:14Speaker 4: because originally it was going to be blue in the movie.
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: But then Lucas changed it to green because it showed
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: up better on the blue Dagobah sky.
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: That and then I think.
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: Tatooine sky.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: I think I also heard that they... were afraid people
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: were going to be confused, that they didn't understand he
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: built a new lightsaber, especially when they cut that scene
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: out of him building a new lightsaber. So then if
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: it would have just popped out of R2, they're like,
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: how did he get that back when it fell down
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: that thing? I had heard that that was a plot
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: point in the original screenplay.
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: R2 always had an extra lightsaber.
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like, crowds are dumb. You've got to
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: change this so they understand it's a whole new thing.
- 1:20:53Speaker 4: I just don't understand why the original Luke had a
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: yellow light. Why was it yellow?
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: They got a deal on yellow plastic? Because I wondered
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: that forever.
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: Were they trying to really make it specific that Luke
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: is always yellow, Ben's always blue, Darth's always red?
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: Well, there was also like, it was almost to the
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: end of the run that the lightsabers were not different colors.
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: They were like a white-ish and they were the same color.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: Almost all the way up until the end of them
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: releasing the movie. And then at some point, somebody, probably
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: not George, went like, you know, this would work better
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: if you could tell who was who and if they
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: were like different colors or something. And they added the
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: color in the last couple of months or so. Because
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: I always.
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: Thought it was weird on the Millennium Falcon when Luke's
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: playing with the space ball. The lightsaber looks... It's pretty
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: damn white. Yeah, it looks white.
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: And I always wondered if the Kenner guys saw that
- 1:21:45Speaker 4: and thought, oh, that was probably yellow.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: That's yellow. And we got a lot of this yellow
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: plastic laying around.
- 1:21:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:21:51Speaker 4: Take that, Strawberry Shortcake. Now, this is weird, too. This
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: is how stupid I am. I didn't keep my toys
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: in the packages, but I kept the action figure cards
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: because it had a picture from the movie on the card.
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: I kind of did that. I don't know where some
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: of those went over the years.
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: And in this time before VCR and being able to
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: watch the movie over again, those were, to me, they
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: were like pictures from the movie, and I wanted to
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: hang on to it. The picture of the Obi-Wan Kenobi
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: figure has... It was colored yellow. His lightsaber was colored
- 1:22:22Speaker 4: yellow on the card. But the lightsaber was blue. And
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: I always wondered if maybe the original idea was to
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: give the Ben figure a yellow lightsaber, and I got
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: switched somehow. I don't know. This is the crap I
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: think about when I should have been studying to be
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: an engineer, like Isaac.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: That explains it. well what always bothered me about that
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: whole first run is the fact that they like had
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: that weird downsized tapered off thing i'm like why wouldn't
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: it just be ones like they weren't like that in
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: the movie it made it like easier to poke your
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: eye out or something i don't know i was like
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: it seems even more dangerous to make it more pointy
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: at the end there's a shaft and then there's a
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: little there's a little.
- 1:23:02Speaker 4: Shaft you seriously don't don't don't know why oh my
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: god i'm gonna drop some Total geek town knowledge.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: This sounds made up.
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: When Kenner first made the original figures, the lightsabers were
- 1:23:17Speaker 4: supposed to actually fit completely into the arm. And it
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: was going to telescope out in two separate pieces. And
- 1:23:26Speaker 4: it was... That's a lot of engineering. It was a
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: little engineering marvel.
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: A little engineering that could.
- 1:23:33Speaker 4: And the thing is, when they got down to it,
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: and they actually made a bunch, and they... sent them out,
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: especially that early bird pack.
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: Got them.
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: But they ended up being just too damn expensive. So
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: they were like, you know what?
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: It does seem like it would break really.
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: Easy, too.
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: So then they were like, you know what? Let's just
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: make it one piece, but we'll keep that look and
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: so they made the little they kept.
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: It still seems like it would be easier to just
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: mold one big long piece like the ones later but
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: it fit in their arm because it is kind of
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: cool that it popped out of their arm it's kind
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: of inconvenient for the rest of their life that they
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: have this big thing sticking out of.
- 1:24:08Speaker 4: Their arm I'm typing into google original.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: Some sort of Jedi cyborg action going on but it
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: was still pretty cool that.
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: It was foreshadowing is what it was sooner or later
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: you're going to lose that arm and probably a bunch
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: of other stuff all you guys are going to lose
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: some limbs.
- 1:24:25Speaker 4: But I think a lot of my kind of minutiae,
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: like I would know so much about the figures and
- 1:24:33Speaker 4: how they looked and how the cards looked, is because
- 1:24:35Speaker 4: I was so in love with Star Wars, but I
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: had no way to watch Star Wars.
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: This was before we got a DVD three months later.
- 1:24:41Speaker 10: Yeah, all I had was the figures and the big
- 1:24:47Speaker 10: Star Wars storybook with the pictures in it, which had
- 1:24:50Speaker 10: the big scene in it on Tatooine.
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: So did the novel. so written by george lucas see
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: back in the day he did a lot of stuff
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: he wrote the actual book like later he ended it
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: off to all these other but then those early days
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: obviously he just didn't turn anything over to anybody because
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: he wrote the damn novel like nobody does that.
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: See for me the star wars comic was the lifeline
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: oh the series i didn't have that.
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: Like the marvel series that continued because i had i
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: had a good amount of those i remember and i
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: I remember picking up the early ones because I liked
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: how weird and different they were. Giant green bunny rabbit
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: is exactly what I was looking for in my.
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: Comic books as a kid. Who was a bounty hunter.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: Because they have how many jobs? None.
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: His name was Jax.
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: And see, that's when I started thinking that Jedi Knights
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: were cool was because they were crazy. The only other
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: one we ever saw other than Ben Kenobi was that
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: other guy in the Marvel comic that was like Kind
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: of like Don Quixote. Like, he was old and crazy and, like,
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: the last surviving Jedi in this part of the galaxy. And, like,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: he really was just, like, a nutcase. But, like, he
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: was the only guy that still had a lightsaber and
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: knew how to sort of use some Jedi powers. And, like,
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: that's when I was like, that old dude's pretty crazy. Like,
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: I like him.
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: Didn't he go into a lava pit? I think he
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: went into a lava pit.
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: They were, again, foreshadowing some future movies.
- 1:26:15Speaker 3: Foreshadowing 35 years later.
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: Hey, that's a good idea.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: We should do something about that. Yeah, lava. Let's not
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: explain it very much, though. Oh, wait, let's make a
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: whole movie.
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: Ben is Googling.
- 1:26:33Speaker 4: Sorry, I'm wanting to find a diagram that explains to
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: you guys how this is working.
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: Life.
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: The diagram for life.
- 1:26:42Speaker 4: Put the phone right up to the mic. All right.
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: As you can tell, Internet, from what I'm trying to
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: find here, yeah, kids have it damn easy. They just
- 1:26:54Speaker 4: put in the damn Blu-ray. I had to keep all
- 1:26:57Speaker 4: my action figure cards and hope to God that I
- 1:27:01Speaker 4: can put them in the right order to make sense
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: of how the movie went and all that.
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: That's what you had the trading cards for.
- 1:27:09Speaker 4: Oh, the trading cards.
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: I had a bunch of those. I had all five series.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: I had the blue ones, and the red ones, and
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: the yellow ones.
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: And the green ones.
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: I had a few of the green ones. Yeah, it
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: started to taper off. Like, I had pretty much all
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: of the blue ones.
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:27:23Speaker 4: Like.
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: My dad was helping keep track of them. We were
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: writing stuff down. We were missing. Did he really?
- 1:27:28Speaker 4: Did he do that with you?
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: At the time, yeah. I think back. Like, now, I
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: don't think he wants anything to do with my geekery. Like, now,
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: if he could totally disown me, probably would. But, like,
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: at the time, it was one of the few things
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: we kind of bonded over. Like, we saw Star Wars together.
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: And we were like, you can't recreate that now. Because
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: I have the blue. He didn't even go see the
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: new one. I had the Blu-ray. And I was like,
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: we could. I was like, no, this is not going
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: to go well, is it? And we didn't. I'm like,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: you just can't go home again. You can't recreate that
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: little special moment. It's done now.
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: Like tears in the rain.
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: They didn't have... Wrong movie. They didn't have... Or maybe
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: they did at some baseball card shop that I didn't
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: go to. But now and years later, I would be
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: a geek and get the pages with nine slots and
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: I would put all the cards in them and binder
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: them up like a true geek. But yeah, then they
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: were just rubber banded in a shoe box. And like
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: I had the Star Wars stickers on the box that
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: it went in. And I'm like, that's how I knew
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: it was the box that it goes in. I put
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: them on my trapper keeper. I think I had, well, no,
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: I had an entire, and this was the geek move
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: back in the day. The closet door became the like,
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: shrine of all your cool stickers which later will backfire
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: because you won't live there or you'll paint over it
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: or some somebody will mess up your whole thing but
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: i did it and i may have i can't remember
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: i did it first or i stole the idea from
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: my cousin because she also had a door that had
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: tons of star wars stickers I think she worked in
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: some Wonder Woman stickers too, but you can't go wrong
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: with Linda Carter.
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: Impure.
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: You know, you know. That's true.
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: Well, it was a little bit of everything because I
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: may have worked in some other offshoot stickers from some packs.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: I don't remember much.
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: There's a Battlestar Galactica.
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: I don't think I, again, I had, I will look
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: back because I still have that shoebox full of cards,
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: by the way.
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: $ 6 million, man.
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: And yeah, I'll pull them out and I'll be like,
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: I had like a couple of, they were all separated
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: like a geek would do. And rubber banded together. And
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: I'm like, I'll pull out my, like, yeah, this is
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: about three packs of Dark Crystal cards. And then here's my....
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: Oh, I've got them.
- 1:29:31Speaker 4: They're still at home. What else did I have?
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: There was just that run of stuff that, like, at
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: the time, I was like, yeah, this is awesome. And
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: I'd get a couple of packs. And then, like, again,
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: you didn't go back to that store that often. You
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: weren't driving yourself around. You didn't have tons of money.
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: So you were just like, these are the packs I got.
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: I guess these are the cards I have.
- 1:29:48Speaker 8: So.
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: I'll look at these Superman 2 cards all day long
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: because this is all I have.
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: And there's a sticker of Marlon Brando.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: I had Margot Kidder up on the door long before
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: I knew she was a crazy person.
- 1:30:01Speaker 4: All right, this is the closest to a diagram I
- 1:30:03Speaker 4: can find, but the whole lightsaber would collapse into the arm,
- 1:30:08Speaker 4: and you pull out the skinny bit and the whole thing.
- 1:30:11Speaker 4: And it broke immediately. And then when you did the
- 1:30:14Speaker 4: tab underneath the arm and you push it back in,
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: It collapses both pieces into the arm. And you make
- 1:30:21Speaker 4: the noise, you know, the.
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: But it was too expensive to keep going. And, like,
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: in the original, it was, like, actually really, really longer.
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: And that's what she said. Like, there's the Darth one. Like,
- 1:30:36Speaker 4: you see how... Yeah. Because it would be the same
- 1:30:39Speaker 4: length as the bigger piece.
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: I mean, they were a little stubbier than in the movie.
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: I'll give you that.
- 1:30:44Speaker 4: But... So they go for a lot on the eBay.
- 1:30:50Speaker 4: That's all I'm saying. I'll be okay with that one. Yeah.
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: I'm a geek, but I've tried to wean myself off
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: it a little bit these days.
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: Oh, my gosh. Well, are you buying toys from the
- 1:31:06Speaker 4: new movie, from the Episode 7? Have you got the
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: Rey figure? Have you joined the Where's Rey movement?
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: You can't find the Rey figure. Now, granted, I will
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: give them their initial reason for it, almost acceptable story
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: from a business standpoint. I think it's a bullshit move
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: for girls or hopefully even boys that wanted a cool
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: Rey figure in that first wave. But all right, they're
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: trying to contain the spoiler. She can't come with a
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: lightsaber because we don't know. She's not the Jedi girl.
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: She could have come with a stick.
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: She could have come with her stick. That's her weapon
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: of choice anyway through the whole movie. So like, yeah,
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: just put out that first wave with her. Then you
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: could have an alternate version and charge them again. Don't
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: you know how this works? Didn't Kenner teach you anything?
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: Come around, go again.
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: Really? So yeah, I think that's kind of uncool. I
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: still haven't seen any. I saw one of the super
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: like limited edition movies The Disney store put out that
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: is entirely metal.
- 1:32:03Speaker 6: What?
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: It's the only thing... And it looked... It's one of
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: the bigger figures. It's the not... I don't even know what.
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: Like 10 inch or something? Like it's the middle size.
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: It's not the giant figures. It's not the normal size.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: Is it the Black Series type? I think it's the...
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: But it's like a super deluxe Black Series that only
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: the Disney store carries. And that's the only Rey action
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: figure of any sort I've even come across. So they're
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: still not real readily available out there.
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: I will never... Fall for the exclusive scam ever again.
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: Not since the 1995 fiasco, which I'm still trying to
- 1:32:38Speaker 4: sell off. We got a new house. I'm trying to move.
- 1:32:47Speaker 4: I had all this stuff from the mid-90s of Star Wars.
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: Because like everyone else in the freaking nerd world thought,
- 1:32:55Speaker 4: I'm going to buy two of everything and save it,
- 1:32:57Speaker 4: and I'm going to make a fortune.
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: I would make fun of you if I didn't have
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: a box. And by a box, I mean about ten boxes.
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: Of Star Wars Power of the Force figures still in
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: their packaging that I have no idea what to do
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: with because they're worth about $ 1. 50 now.
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: Everyone likes Luke with He-Man muscles. Yeah.
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: Of course I have that one.
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: And Leia with He-Man muscles.
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: So I've been thinking, like, I'm going to put them
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: on eBay. I'm going to put them on eBay.
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: Yeah, they don't go for it. It's just too much
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: damn work. That's the problem.
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: They're $ 1. 50 now.
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: But I paid $ 2.
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: 99 for it. Yeah.
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: This is not going up in value at all. I
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: was lied to.
- 1:33:31Speaker 4: Children's Palace, let us go. About a month ago, before
- 1:33:34Speaker 4: our house was closed and all that, and I'm like,
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: I don't want to move all this crap because I'm
- 1:33:38Speaker 4: actually going to have less storage space where I'm going.
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: That sucks for you.
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: I saw online that there was something called the Kentucky
- 1:33:46Speaker 4: Star Wars Collectors Club or something, and they were having
- 1:33:49Speaker 4: a swap meet.
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 1:33:51Speaker 4: What was it?
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: Something like that.
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: Yeah, like the Kentucky Action Figure Collectors, Star Wars Collectors.
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: Something about Star Wars.
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw Star Wars.
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: I went there.
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: So I talked Dave into going down to Frankfurt. You
- 1:34:04Speaker 4: got scammed into this.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: That was game.
- 1:34:07Speaker 4: I rented a table, and I just brought box after
- 1:34:11Speaker 4: box of all this stuff.
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: If I would have known, I would have brought my crap.
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: I set up a display, and I sold it for
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: way less than it was worth.
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: It's worth what people will pay.
- 1:34:23Speaker 4: It's about four huge crates less of stuff I have
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: to move to this new house now. It's just funny
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: how I don't have the same emotional attachment to it.
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: But I wanted that damn Dengar from 1980.
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: See, there are specific ones that I don't want to
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: get rid of. And probably the ones that I bothered
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: to buy an extra one so I could have them
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: out there. Because I do have that entire... That run
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: of when they redid all of the bounty hunters in
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: that scene. So I have all of them and a
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: Darth Vader to recreate that scene on the ship.
- 1:34:56Speaker 4: No disintegrations.
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: And that's all I want. But if I needed the...
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: R5-D4 with attack power missile in the middle of it.
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: You know what? I can live without one of those.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: Whether it's packaged up or not, I think I'll be
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: okay without that.
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: It's a choking hazard. You're better off.
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: It comes with a bad motor. Come on, R5. Get
- 1:35:17Speaker 4: out there.
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: I don't want to. I'm just going to sit around
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: the house here. R2-D2 kind of killed another droid, if
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: you really think about it.
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: I've also heard the theory that R5-D4 was part of
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: the Rebel Alliance and he short-circuited himself out because he
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: knew R2 needed to go with Luke to put this
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: whole thing into motion. He's part of the team.
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: I don't think R2 killed him.
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: I think Obi-Wan did it.
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: Or it's Obi-Wan because he's behind everything.
- 1:35:45Speaker 4: One more death on his tally. You know, that just
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: tells you how good an actor Alec Guinness really was because,
- 1:35:54Speaker 4: you know... after you watch the prequels and then you
- 1:35:58Speaker 4: watch that scene in a new hope where he, where
- 1:36:02Speaker 4: Obi-Wan Kenobi looks at R2 and he's like, I don't
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: recall ever owning a droid. And he, and he looks
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: at him the way he looks at him. You can
- 1:36:09Speaker 4: almost believe that he recognizes R2 and he's just playing
- 1:36:14Speaker 4: his part because, you know, he's trying to talk Luke
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: into bringing down the government.
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: He lies about a whole lot of stuff.
- 1:36:19Speaker 4: But like you can almost read into the expression that
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: he has that, Hey, It's R2-D2, Anakin's old droid. I'm
- 1:36:28Speaker 4: just going to pretend.
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: I'm such a good actor. I'm looking ahead into the future,
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: about 30 years or so.
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: Yeah, but there will be prequels.
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: And I'm that good an actor.
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: Did he have his memory wiped? I wonder.
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: And scene.
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: I've cut my hair since the last time I've seen him.
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: For the love of God, don't write me in that
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: next one. Kill me off, George. Whatever you do, kill
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: me off.
- 1:36:49Speaker 4: Oh, you're giving me more points? All right, I'll come back.
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: Fine. All right, so to bring this all back around
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: to you getting rid of your toys.
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: Can we do this in an Obi-Wan Kenobi for the
- 1:36:59Speaker 3: rest of the.
- 1:37:01Speaker 4: I wasn't really doing an Obi-Wan. I was doing an
- 1:37:03Speaker 4: imitation of the guy on Clone Wars who does an
- 1:37:06Speaker 4: imitation of Ewan McGregor who's doing an imitation of Alec Guinness. Oh,
- 1:37:10Speaker 4: very good. I'm like six people away from....
- 1:37:13Speaker 3: But are you, my friend?
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: But to tie it all together... It was two years
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: ago at this time. That some person was trying to
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: unload their Star Wars crap and brought me two fighting
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: Luke and Darth Vader swively action figures.
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: Special swively action.
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: I have them to this day, and I just moved
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: all my crap, and they had to get moved with me.
- 1:37:41Speaker 4: They were tokens of affection.
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: You transferred them over to me, who is now hauling
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: them from one place to the next.
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: It's like herpes.
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: Tokens of affection, man.
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: But at least they are out of the package, so
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: I do occasionally make them smack lightsabers into each other.
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: Do whatever you want with that image.
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: That doesn't sound gay at all, does it?
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: Hey, whatever they're into.
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: It's the Force.
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: Much like herpes. That's how you get space herpes.
- 1:38:07Speaker 3: Smacking your junk into other junk.
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: Wrong movie.
- 1:38:09Speaker 4: You know there's a desert planet, a snow planet. Is
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: there a herpes planet in Star Wars?
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: There must be.
- 1:38:14Speaker 4: Okay, yeah.
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: We don't talk about it.
- 1:38:16Speaker 4: We don't talk about it.
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: Space herpes. We need to spend an hour or two
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: rambling on about ice pirates. That's what we need to do.
- 1:38:21Speaker 4: I've never seen that. Yeah, I haven't either.
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: It's just going to be a long hour.
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: Well, then we're going to.
- 1:38:25Speaker 4: This is why we're not on the show more often, Dave, We're.
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: Going to have.
- 1:38:28Speaker 4: Because we don't really like movies when you get down
- 1:38:31Speaker 4: to it. Just Star Wars.
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: But I'm going to assign you specific movies, and then
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: you're going to have to come back. Oh, work. Oh, work.
- 1:38:38Speaker 4: And summer vacation.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: We'll have a lengthy discussion about a movie you don't want.
- 1:38:43Speaker 4: Didn't you hate when your teacher gave you a book
- 1:38:47Speaker 4: to read over the summer? Come on. And her rationale
- 1:38:52Speaker 4: was always DVDs and VCRs don't exist yet, so read
- 1:38:56Speaker 4: this book over the summer.
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: I think you're having weird old man flashbacks.
- 1:39:01Speaker 3: He's retconning his own childhood.
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: Just like Obi-Wan Kenobi.
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: He's good at that.
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: I don't think I have to read this book.
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: I read the book from a certain point of view.
- 1:39:11Speaker 4: I actually have retconned my childhood in several areas.
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: I remember when your father killed a bunch of kids.
- 1:39:18Speaker 3: He was my friend.
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: He was a great pilot when I met him. Oh wait, no,
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: he was sick.
- 1:39:23Speaker 3: I cut his arms and legs off.
- 1:39:24Speaker 4: He was a great pilot for a six-year-old.
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: Weird, old, haircutted eight-year-old boy. He was great at flying
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: ships and going, oops.
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: I really should have killed him when I cut off
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: his arms and legs.
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: I remember this time when I cut off all of
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: his appendages and threw him in a lava pit.
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: Luke never cut corners.
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: Did I tell you about that, Luke?
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: He was on fire. I thought that would do it.
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: Yeah, he really should have finished the job.
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: That bastard was really strong.
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: Didn't see him coming back from that one, but I'll
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: be damned if there's not more movies now.
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: I won't make the mistake of leaving your aunt alive
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: and in slavery. I'm going to go ahead.
- 1:40:07Speaker 4: And turn her. Like I did your father. In this
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: new episode 7... I don't like the way the lightsabers
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: become like a Harry Potter wand where it chooses its
- 1:40:17Speaker 4: owner and all that kind of crap. It's magical. I
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: don't like that. I don't like the whole... Because you
- 1:40:23Speaker 4: would think it would be tainted from all those kids
- 1:40:25Speaker 4: that it killed and all that.
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: I'm going to go with the Force being kind of
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: magic because otherwise you fall on the science side and
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: you're one of those weird metachloric believers.
- 1:40:35Speaker 3: You don't want to tug on that sweater. That bit
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: of the sweater.
- 1:40:40Speaker 4: That's another reason the You know, in that sweet time
- 1:40:44Speaker 4: before the prequels came out, I used to think that
- 1:40:49Speaker 4: when they said, may the force be with you, it
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: was a really encouraging thing. Because for all we knew,
- 1:40:55Speaker 4: anyone could use the force. You just had to believe
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: in it enough. It's like you had to have faith.
- 1:41:01Speaker 4: So anyone can aspire to be a Jedi. You just
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: really got to have the heart. and the dedication and
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: the willpower.
- 1:41:08Speaker 8: Nope.
- 1:41:09Speaker 4: Blood parasite. May the force be with you. It was
- 1:41:13Speaker 4: an encouraging thing because all you had to do was
- 1:41:16Speaker 4: believe in yourself, believe in your friends, and you can
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: do anything because you have the force. Then the prequels
- 1:41:21Speaker 4: come along. And no, it's like you said, it's like
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: a blood parasite. So why bother saying, may the force
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: be with you? It almost becomes a taunting thing. Hey,
- 1:41:31Speaker 4: you little nobody who doesn't have any midichlorians, may the
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: force be with you.
- 1:41:37Speaker 3: You failed your broadcast.
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: More like, too bad the force isn't with you.
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: God, it's nice to have the force.
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: But that's assuming you believe that story. Or if you
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: go back and watch those prequels, and by that I
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: mean episode one... because they never mention it again after that,
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: and really, even in episode one, the only person who
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: mentions it is Qui-Gon, who, Let's just assume it's a
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: wingnut who came up with this crazy theory all on
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: his own. No, he says it to Obi-Wan.
- 1:42:07Speaker 3: He says it?
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:42:09Speaker 4: He's got more Metachlorians than Master Yoda.
- 1:42:11Speaker 3: Yeah, you can just imagine Obi-Wan just sitting on, just
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: making the jack-off symbol.
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: Yeah, checking it on the computer.
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: Ooh, that's a bunch of Metachlorians. He's looking through a magazine.
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it's off the charts.
- 1:42:23Speaker 4: More than Yoda.
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: More than Yoda. He's probably the chosen one or something.
- 1:42:27Speaker 3: He's got more imaginary crap than Yoda. He's got four Orgles.
- 1:42:29Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: He's like, oh, as I'm talking into my lady chick,
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: I better go over and see if I can get
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: this kid to come with us.
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: Yeah, whatever.
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: So, yeah. If you had just assumed the fact that...
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: I'm just trying to retcon it. No, they tell him
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: through the whole movie, your reckless ways. They're always like,
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: damn it, Qui-Gon. Why can't you get with the program
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: like the rest of us? You and your nonsense that
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: you're always ranting on about, about Metachlorians and the Chosen One.
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: Nobody else ever talks about any of that nonsense.
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: It's all Qui-Gon. Maybe if Metachlorians didn't exist, it was
- 1:43:02Speaker 4: a way that Jedis would... Because we pretty much established
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: that the upper echelons of the Jedi were douches.
- 1:43:11Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: Maybe it's some... rule they made up because if someone
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: wanted to be a Jedi and they really didn't want
- 1:43:15Speaker 4: them to join their secret club. Oh, well, see, we
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: all have this thing called metachlorians and we're just going
- 1:43:21Speaker 4: to scan you. Oh, you don't have any, Clyde.
- 1:43:25Speaker 7: Sorry.
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: Again, I'm scanning you with my lady chick. It totally
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: says you don't have any metachlorians.
- 1:43:32Speaker 4: Why don't you go to the bounty hunter college? You
- 1:43:35Speaker 4: could probably do really well there.
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: Well, it's that or a moisture farmer. All right, bounty
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: hunter it is. I guess I could... Oh, no, wait,
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: I forgot. Smuggler. You can be a smuggler, a bounty hunter.
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: Or a farmer.
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: This is your universe.
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: When you're re-editing this, I hope the part that we
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: said that actually happens before we are talking right now.
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: Oh, but didn't it really? From a certain point of view?
- 1:43:58Speaker 4: You wiped my memory, and I can't remember.
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: Thank God I'm a genius editor.
- 1:44:04Speaker 4: Ha ha ha!
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: I have to be to make this show make sense.
- 1:44:08Speaker 4: We give Brian homework.
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: Stop publishing.
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: There you go.
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: Always have homework. Can I tell you something? Even before
- 1:44:17Speaker 4: all the shenanigans in the internet. Okay, the internet burnt
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: down because they said that Rogue One had to go
- 1:44:23Speaker 4: back for reshoots and all that. We're in the trust
- 1:44:26Speaker 4: tree here. When the whole Rogue One thing first came out,
- 1:44:30Speaker 4: I wasn't that excited about it.
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: Well, it's because you're dead inside.
- 1:44:33Speaker 3: That's true.
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: I kind of like.
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: It's a hollowed out core.
- 1:44:36Speaker 4: It really is. Like that first trailer, everyone was excited.
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: You were excited, Dave.
- 1:44:41Speaker 4: Still am.
- 1:44:42Speaker 3: I kind of.
- 1:44:43Speaker 4: I'm not that excited about it.
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:44:46Speaker 4: Maybe it's because I didn't read the expanded universe novels.
- 1:44:50Speaker 4: I kind of. I like my.
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: Own Star Wars.
- 1:44:53Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: Please turn in your geek card.
- 1:44:56Speaker 4: I'm sorry. You've got to get the hell out. That's fine.
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: You only like your story centered around the Skywalker family.
- 1:45:02Speaker 3: If it didn't happen there, it doesn't happen.
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: Outsiders getting involved in.
- 1:45:06Speaker 4: My Star Wars.
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: You know, if the Skywalker family hadn't existed, this whole
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: galaxy would have been a much nicer place to live.
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: Yeah, the Skywalker family kind of screws up everything, by
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: the way.
- 1:45:13Speaker 4: I think what bothered me about that trailer was when
- 1:45:15Speaker 4: you see the guy holding the big stick And he's
- 1:45:21Speaker 4: about to do kung fu shit on the Stormtroopers, a
- 1:45:25Speaker 4: la Game of Thrones. And it was like, oh, they're like.
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: Now you're hating on another franchise.
- 1:45:31Speaker 4: They're basically pulling in every cool thing from every other franchise.
- 1:45:35Speaker 4: And they're sticking it into this one to try.
- 1:45:38Speaker 3: To make it.
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: Maybe they're just expanding this universe.
- 1:45:41Speaker 4: But it's such a cliche to have. One guy who's
- 1:45:45Speaker 4: so great at martial arts that he can just use
- 1:45:47Speaker 4: a stick and defeat guys with freaking lasers.
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: Yeah, that's because he's the chosen one. Haven't you seen
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: any movie? No, he's not a chosen one. He's always
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: the chosen one.
- 1:45:55Speaker 4: He's some martial arts guy from the martial arts planet.
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: He's from the Matrix, and he's the chosen one. It's
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: in every movie. All right, now that we've broke Ben,
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: I think we've talked about Star Wars enough.
- 1:46:11Speaker 4: It's the anniversary of our 40-hour... Star Wars Fest.
- 1:46:16Speaker 3: It was like this only 38 more hours.
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: Yeah, so consider yourself blessed. We are ending it now.
- 1:46:25Speaker 4: And we didn't even do an encore of our cowboy
- 1:46:28Speaker 4: version of Empire Strikes Back.
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: Just go Google that, people, and then don't listen.
- 1:46:34Speaker 3: People stopped us from finishing that.
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: I heard it. I was across the room trying to record,
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: and some jerks were making noise over there. Oh, wait,
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: it was those Star Wars Western guys.
- 1:46:45Speaker 4: Whatever Gina thinks you're being too nerdy, that really hurt.
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: Well, Luke, you should try, or you don't try. There
- 1:46:51Speaker 3: is no try.
- 1:46:52Speaker 4: People were wondering, I was convinced that you could do
- 1:46:57Speaker 4: Empire Strikes Back as a Western.
- 1:46:59Speaker 3: Oh, you're totes good.
- 1:47:01Speaker 4: And so Dave printed out the script, and we were
- 1:47:06Speaker 4: performing Empire Strikes Back as a Western, and.
- 1:47:09Speaker 3: It I love you, you galoot.
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:47:12Speaker 3: I know. Oh, God.
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: I mean, I'd watch it if they made one.
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: Paul was Darth Vader and his name was Dark Bart.
- 1:47:22Speaker 4: And it was like, I am Dark Bart's going to
- 1:47:25Speaker 4: come and get us.
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: It was great.
- 1:47:28Speaker 4: It worked great. That means Coyote's coming this way.
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: So thank you once again to Wonderfest for letting this
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: craziness go on. They should have kicked us out hours ago.
- 1:47:39Speaker 4: By the way, you keep saying we're at Wonderfest. We're
- 1:47:42Speaker 4: in an empty room. Last time we did this, we
- 1:47:44Speaker 4: were down in the room with all the big models
- 1:47:47Speaker 4: and the costumes.
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: Which was still an empty room, you realize.
- 1:47:50Speaker 4: But it was full of costumes and mannequins wearing.
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: Well, they heard you were coming and they were like,
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: we don't want him down there with our stuff. They
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: were like, for the love of God, maybe I'll let
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: you use an empty room.
- 1:48:02Speaker 4: We're in a big empty room with our chairs stacked
- 1:48:05Speaker 4: up behind us.
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: Why must you ruin the illusion for these people? They're
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: enjoying the wonder that is us immersed in.
- 1:48:14Speaker 4: I'm wondering why I'm in this room, man.
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: I wonder why you're on this episode.
- 1:48:21Speaker 4: What's this now, 28, 29? What is this?
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: Feels like 50 or 60.
- 1:48:25Speaker 4: Whenever I hit 30, he gives me a gold jacket.
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: Smack upside the head and send you on your way.
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: He punches your car.
- 1:48:34Speaker 4: I get a whole podcast free.
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: Wait, isn't that how the internet works? These are all free,
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: and that's my problem. We're changing that soon. You people
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: have got to pay for this bullshit. So, thank you
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: for not kicking us out, Wonderfest. You should go to wonderfest.com
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: and find out how you can be part of this. Well,
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: maybe if you're lucky, not this craziness, but there's other
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: awesome things going on here, so go find out more
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: about it and come here next year.
- 1:49:02Speaker 4: Yeah, podcasting has come back a year from now. To Louisville, Kentucky,
- 1:49:06Speaker 4: to the Wonderfest, and look for the Trimble Room. We're
- 1:49:09Speaker 4: all going to be here talking, and there's an empty
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: seat because Eric got up. You could come and sit
- 1:49:14Speaker 4: at this seat and talk to us. We'll still be
- 1:49:16Speaker 4: talking about Star Wars, probably.
- 1:49:18Speaker 3: Probably.
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: I might have seen Rogue One by this point, and
- 1:49:21Speaker 4: I can tell you if I like the martial arts
- 1:49:24Speaker 4: sticky guy or not. I don't know.
- 1:49:25Speaker 3: What kind of stick was it, really? Was it Space Elm.
- 1:49:28Speaker 4: Space Oak?
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: Hey, Ray has a space dick, and she's a badass,
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: so don't be talking bad about space dicks.
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: Space dicks.
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: On that note, otherwise that about does it. We will
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: return next time, same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:49:56Speaker 7: And that mistake, I've made a few. I've had my
- 1:50:01Speaker 7: share of sand kicking my face, but I've come through.
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: We are the champions, my friends.
- 1:50:10Speaker 7: We'll keep on fighting to the end. We are the champions.
- 1:50:18Speaker 7: We are the champions. No time for losers, cause we
- 1:50:23Speaker 7: are the champions.
- 1:50:28Speaker 5: I'm taking my bow and my curtain calls.
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: You brought me fame and fortune, everything that goes with it.
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: I thank you all. But it's been a bed of roses,
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: no pleasure cruise.
- 1:50:47Speaker 7: I'm considering a challenge before the whole.
- 1:50:55Speaker 6: Human race, and.
- 1:50:56Speaker 4: I ain't gonna lose.
- 1:50:57Speaker 7: We are the champions, my friend. We'll keep on fighting
- 1:51:01Speaker 7: till the end. We are the champions. We are the champions.
- 1:51:10Speaker 7: No time for losers, guys.
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: We are the champions of the world.
- 1:51:39Speaker 7: We are champions, my friends.
- 1:51:42Speaker 6: We can fight it to the end.
- 1:52:06Speaker 7: We are the champions. We are the champions. No time
- 1:52:15Speaker 7: for losers. Because we are the champions.
- 1:52:19Speaker 4: Champions of the world.
- 1:52:21Speaker 3: You knew it was going this way when we started.
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: I mean, three men of a certain age, it's going
- 1:52:26Speaker 3: to turn this way.
- 1:52:27Speaker 8: Star Wars-y. That's what we do. This episode is a
- 1:52:29Speaker 8: production of Movie Meltdown. Produced and edited by The Oddity Studios.
- 1:52:33Speaker 8: With opening music performed by The Empires. For more on
