Speaker 1: Hello, Welcome back to the Inside the Birds pregame show
• 0:13
Speaker 1: featuring Greg Cosell. I'm Jeff Mosher with Adam Kaplan, and
• 0:17
Speaker 1: of course we have Greg Cosell. He always helps us
• 0:19
Speaker 1: break down the tape of the Eagles and their opponent
• 0:22
Speaker 1: and their opponent this week, I'm not quite sure there's
• 0:25
Speaker 1: a whole lot of tape we needed to break down
• 0:27
Speaker 1: of It's the two and eleven Raiders, And you know,
• 0:30
Speaker 1: I was having this discussion with sort of both of
• 0:33
Speaker 1: you guys, and I'm not trying to be mean or cruel,
• 0:36
Speaker 1: but if you did a account of how many blue
• 0:40
Speaker 1: chip players the Raiders have, it's probably the same number
• 0:45
Speaker 1: of blue chip players the Eagles have in their secondary alone.
• 0:49
Speaker 1: I mean Brock Bauers elite, Max Crosby elite, and when
• 0:53
Speaker 1: he's healthy, we'll get into it. Colton Miller is a
• 0:55
Speaker 1: very good left tackle. After that fellas, am I missing
• 0:58
Speaker 1: a guy that is really, really good and maybe even
• 1:01
Speaker 1: just having a bad year.
• 1:05
  Speaker 2: I don't think I am a good question.
• 1:07
  Speaker 3: It's a great question.
• 1:08
Speaker 4: I mean, they got some solid, you know guys you'd
• 1:10
Speaker 4: consider solid, like Jeremy is solid. Elandon Roberts has played
• 1:16
  Speaker 4: a long time.
• 1:17
Speaker 3: He is what he is. He's good at it, right.
• 1:20
Speaker 4: Devin White's kind of been reborn a little bit, but
• 1:22
Speaker 4: I'm not sure, you know exactly put him in that category.
• 1:26
Speaker 1: No, no, I don't think anything by the way, you know, Yeah.
• 1:30
Speaker 5: Yeah, Tackles is the worst way to evaluate a player
• 1:33
Speaker 5: like you because it depends on the system where the
• 1:35
Speaker 5: tax are fun to the scheme coaches. They the coaches
• 1:38
Speaker 5: I know dismissed tackles. You know, it's tape first, where
• 1:42
Speaker 5: you line up where you were you supposed to be,
• 1:44
Speaker 5: and when you're on the field of lot because they're
• 1:46
Speaker 5: a terrible football team with a terrible offense. Yeah, you're
• 1:48
Speaker 5: gonna get a lot of tackles. But good for Devin White.
• 1:50
Speaker 5: But yeah, no, Jeff, you're right. Although I know, I
• 1:53
Speaker 5: know some folks are only like Dylan Parhams. I think
• 1:55
Speaker 5: they're left guard. Yeah from uh from Ryan Simmerfield, former
• 1:59
  Speaker 5: school man.
• 1:59
Speaker 3: I don't. But they're all lines not very good.
• 2:01
Speaker 1: No, it's not. But here's the interesting thing about the Raiders,
• 2:07
Speaker 1: all right. I don't care about the Week one win
• 2:09
Speaker 1: over the Patriots because Week one is a big con
• 2:12
Speaker 1: job and we all know it. For both teams. Really.
• 2:15
Speaker 1: If you look at the Raiders' schedule, they have had
• 2:18
Speaker 1: to play the Denver Broncos twice now in the last
• 2:21
Speaker 1: five weeks. They've lost ten to seven and twenty four
• 2:24
Speaker 1: to seventeen, so that's a combined total of ten points.
• 2:27
Speaker 1: They played the Jaguars, they lost thirty to twenty nine,
• 2:30
Speaker 1: lost by a point. They were seven to seven at
• 2:32
Speaker 1: halftime with the Chargers two weeks ago and then lost
• 2:36
Speaker 1: some steam there in the second half. I guess the
• 2:38
Speaker 1: point I'm trying to make they lost by one to
• 2:39
Speaker 1: the Bears is that they get off the bus, they
• 2:43
Speaker 1: play you. They're not rolling over and dying. They're given
• 2:45
Speaker 1: some good games to some good teams. And this is
• 2:48
Speaker 1: an Eagles team right now. Can't take anybody lightly that
• 2:51
Speaker 1: is struggling, not playing like a top five NFL team,
• 2:54
Speaker 1: So anything can happen. But I'm just saying that the
• 2:58
Speaker 1: Raiders will get off the bus and and do the
• 3:01
Speaker 1: best they got And they've given some some good teams
• 3:03
Speaker 1: some some fits already this year. That's the best you
• 3:07
Speaker 1: can say about them.
• 3:08
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, that's that's fair. They're still an NFL team. Look,
• 3:12
Speaker 4: you mentioned they don't have stars, you know, except for
• 3:15
  Speaker 4: a few, but I mean there's they have a lot
• 3:17
Speaker 4: of guys who are kind of solid NFL players. The
• 3:20
Speaker 4: big issue for them, and will you know, get into
• 3:23
Speaker 4: this to some degree I mentioned it already, is their
• 3:26
Speaker 4: old line is playing with backups and it's really been
• 3:30
Speaker 4: a problem. So that you know, that's that it's hard
• 3:33
Speaker 4: to play, you know, when your old line is not
• 3:35
Speaker 4: very good, it's just hard to play right.
• 3:38
Speaker 1: And unfortunately for them, they don't have a Justin Herbert
• 3:41
Speaker 1: like quarterback who can make something out of nothing the
• 3:44
Speaker 1: way Herbert and their defense is not even nearer the
• 3:47
Speaker 1: Chargers you know them in So that's going to be
• 3:49
Speaker 1: their big issue. On top of that tropical storm. Kaplan,
• 3:53
Speaker 1: what are we dealing with on Sunday at one o'clock? Yes,
• 3:56
Speaker 1: that's right, Sunday one o'clock. The Eagles are actually playing
• 4:00
  Speaker 1: a Sunday one o'clock game.
• 4:03
  Speaker 3: Here.
• 4:03
Speaker 1: There's a little snow in the forecast early.
• 4:05
Speaker 5: Yeah, it comes for the games, which is irrelevant. What
• 4:07
Speaker 5: matters is the win. Twenty eight to thirty miles an
• 4:10
Speaker 5: hour again with the gusts man.
• 4:11
Speaker 3: It's break it's as Sunday. Huh, what's that? Gust was
• 4:16
Speaker 3: very windy on Sunday.
• 4:18
Speaker 5: Yeah, Arry, Yeah, again, twenty eight to thirty miles an hour. Now,
• 4:20
Speaker 5: now here's the interesting thing. Hurts has a strong picket,
• 4:23
Speaker 5: does not? Uh So, And I know Pickett knows the
• 4:26
Speaker 5: stadium obviously the Link. But that's a big deal man,
• 4:30
Speaker 5: that that the wind is. We've seen it. It is
• 4:32
Speaker 5: really hard to throw the ball in the wind if
• 4:35
Speaker 5: you don't have a strong arm. In particular, so much
• 4:36
Speaker 5: happened with Jared Goff here Detroit came into town and
• 4:39
Speaker 5: that was a major factor.
• 4:41
Speaker 2: Yep, Chicago, Yeah, Chicago that the wind was worse.
• 4:45
Speaker 5: Talking to people at the game, it was actually worse
• 4:46
Speaker 5: than that game, and it sure showed it for both quarterbacks.
• 4:48
Speaker 5: So you're right, twenty to thirty mine an hour gusts,
• 4:52
Speaker 5: seventeen to twenty mile hour wins.
• 4:54
Speaker 1: I also believe I saw the wind show was supposed
• 4:56
Speaker 1: to get into negative. So it's going to be pretty
• 4:58
Speaker 1: pretty frosty out there at the Link. So just another
• 5:02
Speaker 1: obstruction for this Eagles offense that's trying to get going.
• 5:05
Speaker 1: We're gonna talk a lot about that. As far as
• 5:07
Speaker 1: injuries are concerned, we've talked about throughout the week. Lane
• 5:11
Speaker 1: Johnson not not gonna play. Jalen Carter not practiced all
• 5:15
Speaker 1: week out, not going to play. Got some I had
• 5:18
Speaker 1: an interesting conversation with a sports physician about the PRP injections.
• 5:23
  Speaker 2: I know.
• 5:24
  Speaker 3: Cool.
• 5:24
Speaker 1: We addressed it with Aaron Bordman, a former Eagles athletic
• 5:27
Speaker 1: trailer trader. But we also got some more information that
• 5:30
Speaker 1: I found really interesting. We'll get into that in a second.
• 5:33
Speaker 1: But as for everybody else, let Landon Dickerson did return
• 5:37
Speaker 1: to practice after I think he was out of practice
• 5:41
Speaker 1: on one of the days, right, they said.
• 5:44
Speaker 5: Yeah, minderstand was just that he's cleared, by the way.
• 5:47
Speaker 5: Everyone else has been cleared for the game. Carter's out,
• 5:50
Speaker 5: Fred Johnson's out, Cam Williams by the way, not that
• 5:52
Speaker 5: they expect him to play the season. But the good
• 5:54
Speaker 5: thing is he's recovered from a shoulder injury. But they
• 5:57
Speaker 5: don't have any room for him. They'd have to cut
• 5:59
Speaker 5: somebody to make for He's he needs an offseason. He's
• 6:01
Speaker 5: developmental player, major project. But minuders saying was that the
• 6:06
Speaker 5: light caff stream they he would have participated in the walkthrough. Well,
• 6:11
Speaker 5: he did whatever they want him to do on Wednesday
• 6:13
Speaker 5: was ever prescribed and then they didn't have him do
• 6:15
  Speaker 5: anything Thursday, and.
• 6:17
Speaker 2: That was a smart thing. He took all the reps
• 6:18
Speaker 2: on Friday. He's ready to go.
• 6:19
Speaker 5: Charlie Hewlett, by the way, their long snapper. This doesn't
• 6:22
Speaker 5: mean something. Yeah, he was activated off I our as
• 6:25
Speaker 5: we expected. He's cleared. Fred Johnson is cleared. I know
• 6:28
Speaker 5: he told him me he'd be ready to go. He
• 6:29
Speaker 5: took all the ones, so he's ready to go. Jalen
• 6:32
Speaker 5: Carter's out, and Zach Baum with that hand injury which
• 6:34
Speaker 5: he had last week, he's cleared. So not that they're
• 6:37
Speaker 5: totally healthy, but but but what I would watch in
• 6:40
Speaker 5: this game is how Lannon Dickerson moves with a CAF injury.
• 6:43
Speaker 5: And obviously this is a new injury with Fred Johnson,
• 6:46
Speaker 5: who might see a lot of Max double X Crosby.
• 6:50
  Speaker 2: In this game.
• 6:51
Speaker 1: Yes, Max Crosby one of the few stars the Raiders have.
• 6:55
Speaker 1: And obviously it will be a reunion of former Eagles
• 6:59
Speaker 1: quarterback Kenny pay who has had quite the journey going
• 7:01
Speaker 1: from Philadelphia to Cleveland to Las Vegas and will make
• 7:06
Speaker 1: his return to Philadelphia. He'll be starting in place of
• 7:09
Speaker 1: Gino Smith who is injured. So interesting there for the
• 7:13
Speaker 1: Raiders apparently. I don't know Greg, if you watched the
• 7:17
Speaker 1: Raiders taper now, but apparently Pickett looked pretty decent.
• 7:20
Speaker 3: Yeah, I watched. I watched pickets throws. Yeah, I watched
• 7:23
Speaker 3: all the throws. He actually threw it pretty good.
• 7:25
  Speaker 2: His arm.
• 7:25
Speaker 4: Again, I have no idea what the wind means. He's
• 7:28
Speaker 4: he doesn't have a gun, no question, but he actually
• 7:30
Speaker 4: threw the ball. I thought his arm looked a little
• 7:32
Speaker 4: stronger in all the throws I saw from last week
• 7:36
Speaker 4: than it did previously, So I don't know what that means,
• 7:39
Speaker 4: but it just looked a little stronger.
• 7:41
Speaker 2: And he threw the oh two years ago whenever.
• 7:44
Speaker 5: His last year with the Steelers was so apparently he
• 7:46
Speaker 5: put on a lot of mass on his upper body
• 7:49
Speaker 5: because he knew he needed to get stronger.
• 7:51
Speaker 2: And I know from talking to Steelers they felt that
• 7:53
Speaker 2: his arm strength improved.
• 7:55
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 7:55
Speaker 5: I know, when you get the game situations, sometimes it
• 7:58
Speaker 5: doesn't look that way. But on Greg's point, you saw
• 8:00
Speaker 5: that the post route for the touchdown right over the middle.
• 8:03
Speaker 3: That was a good throw, that very throw. Yeah, yeah,
• 8:06
Speaker 3: that had over lots of the on it.
• 8:08
Speaker 1: Yeah right, all right, all right, So it'll be interesting
• 8:10
Speaker 1: to see Kenny pick it back. Who gets booed first,
• 8:13
Speaker 1: the Raiders or the Eagles offense. That is the big
• 8:16
Speaker 1: question in the game, because if the Eagles get the
• 8:19
Speaker 1: ball first and go three and out, it might actually
• 8:21
Speaker 1: be the Eagles getting booed. It has been that bad
• 8:24
Speaker 1: for the Eagles offense. Now, we all spent throughout the week,
• 8:28
Speaker 1: whether it was on Inside the Tape with Greg who
• 8:30
Speaker 1: broke down the tape from the game against the Chargers,
• 8:32
Speaker 1: or us on Inside the Birds, We've all discussed that
• 8:36
Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni had a bigger role in the offensive design,
• 8:39
Speaker 1: and then coming out of that, we saw what Greg
• 8:42
Speaker 1: calls actual NFL modern pass concepts implemented into the offense.
• 8:48
Speaker 1: And then we saw some decent execution with those concepts. However,
• 8:52
Speaker 1: they get overshadowed by for five turnovers. Still bad on
• 8:58
Speaker 1: third down, still not an impact run game. So the
• 9:02
Speaker 1: discussion to have here is the reconciliation of trying to
• 9:06
Speaker 1: add something new which you felt you needed and did
• 9:08
Speaker 1: well at versus in doing so, you did not improve
• 9:12
Speaker 1: your third down percentage, you did not secure the ball,
• 9:16
Speaker 1: and where do you go from here? And I guess
• 9:19
Speaker 1: what you have to wonder and I'll put this out
• 9:21
Speaker 1: to both of you guys. Start with you, Greg Is.
• 9:24
Speaker 1: I feel like the Eagles need to figure out if
• 9:27
Speaker 1: last week was cause and effect or if last week
• 9:29
Speaker 1: was just one step forward two steps backwards. Let's try
• 9:33
Speaker 1: it again and try to eliminate the mistakes.
• 9:36
Speaker 4: I think it has to be a case of your
• 9:37
Speaker 4: building something you saw last week. There were a lot
• 9:40
Speaker 4: of positives. You're not expecting four interceptions by your quarterback
• 9:43
Speaker 4: every week. He rarely throws interceptions. We broke down pretty
• 9:47
Speaker 4: much each one earlier in the week, so we're not
• 9:49
Speaker 4: going to do that again. But that's not likely to happen.
• 9:53
Speaker 4: But there was a lot of positives. I thought in
• 9:55
Speaker 4: just the concepts and the route combinations that I saw,
• 9:58
Speaker 4: you'd have to expect they saw too, you know.
• 10:02
Speaker 3: So you'd have to expect it would continue. And this
• 10:06
Speaker 3: is not a great defense by any means. There's no
• 10:08
Speaker 3: shutdown corner here. There's a you know, there's just other
• 10:12
Speaker 3: than Max Crosby, who potentially against Fred Johnson could post
• 10:17
Speaker 3: problems on giving plays, But other than that, there's not
• 10:20
Speaker 3: really this is not one of those defense where you
• 10:22
Speaker 3: feel like, oh, we can't do certain things. So I
• 10:26
Speaker 3: would expect them to continue on this path. And I'm
• 10:30
Speaker 3: not going to sit here and say it's going to
• 10:31
Speaker 3: be a breakout game and they're going to put up forty.
• 10:33
Speaker 3: But there were a lot of positives and what I
• 10:35
Speaker 3: saw in the pass game.
• 10:35
Speaker 5: Last week, Greg, I want to ask a question the
• 10:38
Speaker 5: corn erk Stokes was a guy I know a lot
• 10:40
Speaker 5: of people in Scout did not like him when he
• 10:41
Speaker 5: came out of Georgia.
• 10:43
Speaker 2: Maybe play didn't play to the measurables. I know he
• 10:45
Speaker 2: may have already come out.
• 10:48
Speaker 5: I'm gonna think twenty one, maybe even before that, I'll
• 10:51
Speaker 5: double check. Well, let's also talk about Darian Porters, a
• 10:54
Speaker 5: tall corner rookie out of Iowa State.
• 10:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, he's the rookie out of Iowa State who's got
• 10:58
Speaker 4: length and in speed and an incredible forty time. You know,
• 11:02
Speaker 4: he's been starting along with Stokes on UH and they're
• 11:06
Speaker 4: one of those teams that plays big nickel basically as
• 11:08
Speaker 4: their UH as their nickel defense. Jeremy Chin is their slot,
• 11:13
Speaker 4: so you know, and they played dime and they play
• 11:16
Speaker 4: a good amount of dimes. So yeah, but the corners
• 11:20
Speaker 4: are essentially Stokes and Porter.
• 11:24
Speaker 2: So yeah, Porter Jeff is sixth or eight. Good right,
• 11:29
Speaker 2: I wanted to ask.
• 11:30
Speaker 1: I agree with Greg, and I think you did too.
• 11:32
Speaker 1: We'd all talked about you need a bigger sample size,
• 11:35
Speaker 1: you need to continue to do this, you need to
• 11:37
Speaker 1: try to continue to evolve your offense. And I find
• 11:41
Speaker 1: it really interesting that at the beginning of the year
• 11:44
Speaker 1: Jalen Hurtz and some other guys in the offense did
• 11:47
Speaker 1: talk about the new iteration of their offense that really
• 11:50
Speaker 1: did not exist until this past week, to be honest,
• 11:52
Speaker 1: So a couple of things here under center jumbo. I
• 11:55
Speaker 1: don't think that that really is quote unquote what they
• 11:58
Speaker 1: had in mind. But when I don't know if you
• 12:00
Speaker 1: heard Jillen Hurts his press conference on Wednesday, but I didn't.
• 12:06
Speaker 1: He was asked about the newer concepts and some of
• 12:09
Speaker 1: the things they did, and he kind of referred to
• 12:12
Speaker 1: them as coach's decision.
• 12:13
  Speaker 3: Like I didn't.
• 12:14
Speaker 1: I didn't hear from him, and his conferences are hard,
• 12:17
Speaker 1: I'll admit to get anything from but I didn't hear
• 12:19
Speaker 1: kind of a warm embrace of that what they did
• 12:24
Speaker 1: and worked. I agree, So I would have thought that
• 12:29
Speaker 1: Jalen would have made that point that, yes, it may
• 12:31
Speaker 1: not have looked great in the outcome, but we did
• 12:34
Speaker 1: take some steps or these were good things, and he
• 12:38
Speaker 1: just sort of put it on the fact that this
• 12:41
Speaker 1: was a coach's decision and it is what it is.
• 12:44
Speaker 1: So I'm really curious going into this game, Adam, if
• 12:48
Speaker 1: if he's as receptive to what we saw as positives
• 12:52
Speaker 1: as we we were recepted to it just as analysts.
• 12:56
Speaker 5: Right, well, there's always for this question because we know
• 12:59
  Speaker 5: he prefers shotgun.
• 13:01
Speaker 2: How receptive is he is?
• 13:02
Speaker 5: Is that the Eagles think the under centers a change up,
• 13:04
Speaker 5: and the numbers are pretty good when he's under center,
• 13:06
Speaker 5: they're actually very good. And Greg's always told us why
• 13:09
Speaker 5: play action works much better when he's the quarterbacks.
• 13:12
  Speaker 3: Right.
• 13:12
Speaker 5: You know you've you've put it out many times Greg,
• 13:15
Speaker 5: as long as we've done shows with you, So it's
• 13:17
Speaker 5: a change up. It actually works when they've done the
• 13:20
Speaker 5: Harriet Hurts is pretty good. Fact, I remember, Greg, you
• 13:22
Speaker 5: gave us the numbers last year. Hurts, his numbers were
• 13:24
Speaker 5: phenomenal when they win Harry up. But again, it's a
• 13:26
Speaker 5: change up. That's what you need to do. You need
• 13:30
Speaker 5: to get your quarterback into a rhythm and you need
• 13:33
Speaker 5: to have him feel good about it. Then the other
• 13:35
Speaker 5: thing is the defense, and you see how they react
• 13:38
Speaker 5: to it, and they it's they've got what they've wanted. Yeah,
• 13:40
Speaker 5: they're usually good. It's as Petula talked about, usually very good.
• 13:43
Speaker 2: In the red zone.
• 13:44
Speaker 5: They had some problems. Some thing's happened with you, like again,
• 13:47
Speaker 5: you're gonna have five turnovers. I mean, that's ridiculous. The
• 13:50
Speaker 5: fun that the doing the same play, We're insane time.
• 13:53
Speaker 5: We're not gonna happen again. And then, by the way,
• 13:54
Speaker 5: not all the picks were on him, So if it
• 13:58
Speaker 5: holds up, yes, you could throw it.
• 14:01
  Speaker 3: Again.
• 14:02
Speaker 2: Ark Stokes is a corner that not a lot of
• 14:03
Speaker 2: people are in the league liked. They brought him in.
• 14:07
Speaker 2: You know, you he's Greg just talked about it. You
• 14:10
Speaker 2: could go after these guys.
• 14:12
Speaker 4: The other thing two which they did a lot of
• 14:14
Speaker 4: Adam and Jeff, which we talked about earlier in the week,
• 14:17
Speaker 4: was empty sets. They were an empty yes times and
• 14:21
Speaker 4: obviously that was a change that was clearly made and
• 14:25
Speaker 4: we don't know if that was a function of the
• 14:26
Speaker 4: opponent or whether that's something they want to do more of.
• 14:30
Speaker 4: You know, the thought behind going empty very often, and
• 14:34
Speaker 4: it's not the only thought, but normally the thought. One
• 14:37
Speaker 4: thought is that the defense has to declare because you're
• 14:41
Speaker 4: spread out, they can't do as much pre snap adjustment,
• 14:45
Speaker 4: they can't do much disguise, they can't do as much rotation.
• 14:49
Speaker 4: They have to get to where they are. So we'll
• 14:52
Speaker 4: see if they do more of that this week. But
• 14:54
Speaker 4: at fifteen snaps, there were fifteen dropbacks out of empty
• 14:57
  Speaker 4: last week.
• 14:58
Speaker 1: Right, And ordinarily that is a formation that they want
• 15:01
Speaker 1: to run out of with the quarterback design runs. That
• 15:04
Speaker 1: wasn't the case though, they want to throw out of
• 15:07
Speaker 1: that formation. I think there was one sort of fake
• 15:09
Speaker 1: run or maybe they were going to run but the
• 15:11
Speaker 1: hole was clouded. But yeah, I thought that was really
• 15:13
Speaker 1: interesting wrinkle as well also Gregg. When when teams go
• 15:16
Speaker 1: empty like that, doesn't it also invite a defense to
• 15:20
Speaker 1: want to blitz and therefore it's a way of getting
• 15:23
Speaker 1: the ball out of It could be a way of
• 15:24
Speaker 1: getting the ball out of your hands quickly into defined reads.
• 15:28
  Speaker 3: It can be.
• 15:28
Speaker 4: I mean, it depends on the defense, you know. Some
• 15:31
Speaker 4: I mean I remember hearing Rex Whye Ryan always talked that, hey,
• 15:34
Speaker 4: if you go empty, we're hitting your quarterback, you know,
• 15:37
Speaker 4: he's a big blitz guy, right, Not every coach is
• 15:40
Speaker 4: a big blitz guy. And you know, Patrick Graham for
• 15:43
Speaker 4: the most part, you know, they've not been a high
• 15:46
Speaker 4: percentage blitz defense this year. They very rarely used defensive
• 15:50
Speaker 4: backs as blitzers, so it's it's linebackers, so you know,
• 15:54
Speaker 4: but they're not relative to the rest of the NFL. Jeff,
• 15:57
Speaker 4: they're not a high percentage blitz defense. Now again, they
• 16:00
Speaker 4: could see this week. You see, that's the thing. You
• 16:03
Speaker 4: never know when it comes to a specific opponent how
• 16:06
Speaker 4: a team is going to play. But just in general philosophically,
• 16:09
Speaker 4: they're not a high percentage of its defense.
• 16:12
Speaker 1: Especially a team that has nothing to lose. They're out
• 16:14
Speaker 1: of the playoff phrase, they're just looking to make everybody
• 16:17
Speaker 1: else's life miserable and spoil other teams.
• 16:21
Speaker 3: And you know, it's funny you say that, because I'm
• 16:23
Speaker 3: not sure coaches think like I mean, again, they're human beings,
• 16:27
Speaker 3: so I'm not saying they never that never crosses their mind.
• 16:30
Speaker 4: But I think coaches and you guys would probably agree
• 16:33
Speaker 4: with this. They just show up and they prepare and
• 16:36
Speaker 4: they just want to, you know, get the guys ready,
• 16:38
Speaker 4: and they want to win on Sunday. You know, now,
• 16:40
Speaker 4: the head coach might decide in a given situation because
• 16:44
Speaker 4: they're not fighting for a playoff spot, you know, hey,
• 16:46
Speaker 4: we're going to go for it, whereas.
• 16:47
Speaker 3: Maybe he wouldn't have gone for it in a different situation.
• 16:50
Speaker 3: But in terms of the week of preparation, the coaches
• 16:53
Speaker 3: aren't saying, oh, we got nothing to lose. Let's say,
• 16:55
Speaker 3: you know they're prepared. Yeah you didn't that, yeah, man,
• 17:00
Speaker 3: that coaches don't think like that.
• 17:01
Speaker 1: Right, And I was getting that sort of that subconscious
• 17:03
Speaker 1: element of you where you're not afraid to take a
• 17:05
Speaker 1: risk at a certain time, where all the way you
• 17:10
Speaker 1: might not call it at that moment because you're teetering
• 17:12
Speaker 1: on the on the playoff you know what.
• 17:14
Speaker 5: I'm sure, right, right, right though, Jeff, when the Cardinals
• 17:17
Speaker 5: came in here, right, I'm sure when we did a
• 17:19
Speaker 5: pregame show, we thought there's no way the Eagles would lose.
• 17:22
Speaker 5: That's an example of a bad football team that had
• 17:24
Speaker 5: nothing to lose. It's not like they're in practice, Okay,
• 17:27
Speaker 5: we got nothing to lose. We're going to call this,
• 17:28
Speaker 5: that and the other. But you come in feeling, you
• 17:31
Speaker 5: know what, we're on the road here, no one thinks
• 17:34
Speaker 5: who he can win to. This does happen and sometimes
• 17:37
Speaker 5: you gavan at yourself. Now, obviously we were hoping Chip
• 17:40
Speaker 5: Kelly would be here so they can get booed.
• 17:41
Speaker 2: And I'm just kidding.
• 17:42
Speaker 5: But my old friend Greg Olsen, who's going to come
• 17:45
Speaker 5: in here, and this is only loves to throw the football.
• 17:47
Speaker 5: But so what happened when broad Shatt I never wanted
• 17:50
Speaker 5: to throw the football, got fired despite doing a great job.
• 17:54
Speaker 5: This is gonna be fascinating because it's coaching for you
• 17:57
Speaker 5: of Carol's not easy. It's not even talk to any
• 17:59
Speaker 5: offensive coaches work for him. It's gonna it's gonna be
• 18:02
Speaker 5: interesting to see what, if anything they bring out here.
• 18:05
Speaker 5: They're not the most talent team. Uh, they have trouble scoring.
• 18:09
Speaker 5: Genty has not been very good. Greg looks like a
• 18:12
Speaker 5: genius when it comes to have the versus genty. Greg
• 18:15
Speaker 5: took a lot of flack on that one on he
• 18:17
Speaker 5: got I actually saw that stuff.
• 18:18
  Speaker 2: Greg.
• 18:19
Speaker 5: People thought you're out of your mind, like in Hampton
• 18:21
Speaker 5: over genty, But you could see it, Jeff.
• 18:23
Speaker 2: You know he runs to contact. What is that?
• 18:26
Speaker 3: Well? You know the thing too, is you talk about
• 18:28
Speaker 3: throwing the ball. Then you have to start dealing with
• 18:30
Speaker 3: your own line. And this is not a very good
• 18:32
  Speaker 3: old line.
• 18:33
Speaker 4: And you know they're playing with backups. Stone forth Ice
• 18:36
Speaker 4: is they're left tackle. He's again I remember evaluating him
• 18:40
Speaker 4: coming out of Florida. I think most people would probably
• 18:43
Speaker 4: say he's a number three tackle, not a number not
• 18:45
Speaker 4: even a number of tack They just started playing Caleb Rodgers,
• 18:49
Speaker 4: who's a rookie at right guard. They're playing Gate Glaze
• 18:53
Speaker 4: at right tackle. So I mean, this is not if
• 18:56
Speaker 4: you're gonna throw the ball. You know, you have to
• 18:58
Speaker 4: feel good that you can protect and uh, you know again,
• 19:01
Speaker 4: I'm not sure how how strongly they feel about that.
• 19:04
Speaker 1: All right, now, we didn't get through all the Raiders' injuries.
• 19:07
Speaker 1: I mentioned Pickett. It's going to start now. Colton Miller
• 19:10
Speaker 1: is a good left tackle that we mentioned who has
• 19:13
Speaker 1: been on IR He has practiced in some form or
• 19:16
Speaker 1: fashion with the Raiders this week. But it'll be interesting
• 19:20
Speaker 1: to see if there's like a late uh you know,
• 19:22
Speaker 1: a deadline move where they activate him and want to
• 19:25
Speaker 1: play him. I don't I don't know why they were Well,
• 19:28
Speaker 1: you're right, coaches don't always think that way. If a
• 19:29
Speaker 1: guy's healthy and he wants to, they'll play it.
• 19:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, he's going to play it. Yeah yeah.
• 19:34
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 19:35
Speaker 5: By the way, he's been out since week five. He's
• 19:37
Speaker 5: significant high ankle spraining Colton Miller. Right, well, yeah, what's that?
• 19:42
Speaker 1: Wasn't there also a fracture involved?
• 19:44
Speaker 5: It might have been, but yeah, it was a significant injury.
• 19:46
Speaker 5: So he hadn't played since. He hasn't played since week four.
• 19:49
Speaker 5: He got hurt in week four. So this is a
• 19:51
Speaker 5: big deal here, and you and I Jeff are talking
• 19:54
Speaker 5: off there. This is a pick the John grud made.
• 19:56
Speaker 5: He kind of comedy your personnel anyway in twenty eighteen
• 20:00
Speaker 5: that he got eviscerated on Colton Miller is terrible. He's gangly,
• 20:03
Speaker 5: not strong. He's been a good football player. I worked,
• 20:06
Speaker 5: he done a good job.
• 20:08
Speaker 1: Yeah, any other Adam injuries that really are I mean again,
• 20:12
Speaker 1: this is not a very talented team, so even the
• 20:14
  Speaker 1: start very good.
• 20:15
Speaker 5: But this kid, Dante Thompson, so he had a fourth
• 20:18
Speaker 5: rounder out of what you dubbed Greg if I'm not mistaken, Yeah, yeah,
• 20:27
  Speaker 5: Dante Thornton.
• 20:28
Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, is he you dubbed? No, he's he was
• 20:31
Speaker 3: Tennessee why did I was sinking Tennessee. Yes. And the
• 20:37
Speaker 3: six five kid who ran a four to three at
• 20:39
  Speaker 3: the com.
• 20:39
Speaker 5: Well, he had some kind of training camp. Dante Thornton
• 20:42
Speaker 5: d n T prospercut. Yeah, he can run now he
• 20:46
Speaker 5: got he had a concussion. He's very wrong. He needs
• 20:48
Speaker 5: to work, but he could be gone this we well,
• 20:50
Speaker 5: he needs to be cleared out of protocol if he does.
• 20:52
  Speaker 2: He's playing.
• 20:53
Speaker 5: So he's a guy you gotta watch. I know he
• 20:55
Speaker 5: hadn't done much. And Trey Tucker could run. He's a
• 20:57
Speaker 5: smaller guy. These are guys you don't want starting if
• 21:00
Speaker 5: you're if the Raiders. But they traded, uh, they traded
• 21:04
Speaker 5: the slot receiver, the kid they got from the Patriots
• 21:06
  Speaker 5: to Yea.
• 21:08
Speaker 4: Now, I know I noticed last week when and it
• 21:11
Speaker 4: was a little bit of garbage time because they weren't
• 21:13
Speaker 4: going to win the game.
• 21:14
Speaker 3: So I don't know if he just played because it
• 21:16
Speaker 3: was garbage time. But I noticed that that Kenny Pickett
• 21:19
Speaker 3: did seem to have a nice connection with Jack Besh,
• 21:21
Speaker 3: So I don't know if he's going to get more
• 21:23
  Speaker 3: snaps this week.
• 21:24
Speaker 1: Question round pick out of TCU.
• 21:26
Speaker 2: If I'm a lot of people in the thought was
• 21:29
Speaker 2: really high for him, but Greg, let's talk about it.
• 21:31
Speaker 3: Oh, I liked his tape a lot. What what do
• 21:33
Speaker 3: you like? Where should he.
• 21:35
Speaker 2: Light up as a pro? What do you see him
• 21:36
  Speaker 2: lighting up?
• 21:37
Speaker 4: He's He's not going to be an ex you know.
• 21:40
  Speaker 4: He's probably more of a movement guy's big, he's physical.
• 21:44
Speaker 4: I'm going back to my evaluation because I did like
• 21:47
  Speaker 4: him a lot.
• 21:48
Speaker 1: Do they while you look for that? Do the Raiders
• 21:51
Speaker 1: have a true X receiver? No?
• 21:54
Speaker 2: No, Yeah, I know is thin, but could he play it?
• 21:59
Speaker 2: Who Docty Thornton? Can he play X?
• 22:03
  Speaker 1: Uh?
• 22:04
Speaker 4: He'd have to grow into that over time. He's never
• 22:07
Speaker 4: been a volume receiver before in college, that is sure.
• 22:11
Speaker 1: So how do they get How do the Raiders strategize
• 22:14
Speaker 1: without a natural acts? Do they just reduce split and well?
• 22:18
Speaker 4: They play a lot out of twelve personnel because Bowers
• 22:21
Speaker 4: is essentially a wide receiver, He'll be their boundary ex
• 22:24
Speaker 4: At times, you're dealing with a guy that is, you know, athletically.
• 22:29
  Speaker 3: I'm trying to.
• 22:30
Speaker 4: Think of the other tight ends in the league. He
• 22:32
Speaker 4: may be the most purely athletic tight end in the league.
• 22:35
Speaker 4: I could be missing someone, but he's certainly right there,
• 22:39
  Speaker 4: you know.
• 22:39
Speaker 3: You're dealing with. He's a terrific football player.
• 22:41
Speaker 2: Yeah, so Michael Myers their number two chetd end. Who's
• 22:44
Speaker 2: their why you know who is?
• 22:45
  Speaker 3: And he's a number ten?
• 22:47
Speaker 5: Right, he's hurt, he's got an ancho injury. Now, Ian
• 22:50
Speaker 5: Thomas came up from the Panthers. He was feeling in
• 22:53
Speaker 5: as the why he's got a calf injury. So Greg
• 22:56
Speaker 5: talked about their offensive lines bottom three in the National
• 22:59
Speaker 5: Football let's be out of about it. Now you got
• 23:01
Speaker 5: these tight end injuries, it's you want to know why
• 23:04
Speaker 5: they can't score them?
• 23:04
Speaker 2: And we just gave you the answers.
• 23:07
Speaker 4: So the next guy up is, believe it or not,
• 23:08
Speaker 4: a guy from towsanend named Carter Runyon. And he could
• 23:11
Speaker 4: well he could well, you know, get a lot of snaps,
• 23:15
  Speaker 4: but it's.
• 23:15
  Speaker 2: Not John Runyan Sun because it's r U N y
• 23:18
Speaker 2: O N. Just for people gonna ask, go ahead, right,
• 23:21
  Speaker 2: got it back.
• 23:22
Speaker 1: To the Raiders defense against the Eagles offense and what
• 23:25
Speaker 1: we expect from the Eagles offense.
• 23:28
  Speaker 3: Uh.
• 23:29
Speaker 1: I think I think what we all would hope is
• 23:32
Speaker 1: that because of the four turnovers, the quarterback does not
• 23:35
Speaker 1: like turtle up a little bit and decide that he's
• 23:38
Speaker 1: not gonna throw those beautiful passes between the numbers that
• 23:42
Speaker 1: he threw last week because he wants to just keep
• 23:45
  Speaker 1: it simple and.
• 23:46
Speaker 3: Not you know, by the way.
• 23:48
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. So the Raiders, Greg they interestingly you said
• 23:52
Speaker 1: they don't blitz, but they lead the NFL in stack
• 23:56
Speaker 1: box percentage by quite a bit. So it sounds like
• 24:00
Speaker 1: what Patrick Graham does is play a lot of guys
• 24:02
Speaker 1: at the line of scrimmage in the box. But he
• 24:05
Speaker 1: shows a lot of things, but probably does not bring
• 24:07
  Speaker 1: everybody right.
• 24:09
Speaker 4: And look, you know, the Eagles, I would assume, are
• 24:12
Speaker 4: still going to look to run the football. That's who
• 24:14
Speaker 4: they are really And we talked about the fact that
• 24:18
Speaker 4: last week in the first half, I thought they did
• 24:21
Speaker 4: it well. Now, just a quick thought on their run game,
• 24:24
Speaker 4: you know, the one thing they don't do a lot of,
• 24:27
Speaker 4: and the way the offensive line is right now with
• 24:29
Speaker 4: Dickerson probably you know, playing through injuries and not being
• 24:33
Speaker 4: as mobile as he might normally be. Jurgens hasn't looked
• 24:37
Speaker 4: as mobile this year as he did a year ago.
• 24:40
Speaker 4: We've seen my a lot of struggle at times. One
• 24:43
Speaker 4: thing they don't do a lot of.
• 24:44
Speaker 3: Is gap scheme and to me, it makes more sense
• 24:49
Speaker 3: with the state of their offensive line to do that
• 24:51
Speaker 3: because your zone run game requires athletic movement, you know
• 24:54
Speaker 3: that synchronized swimming the athletic movement. And they don't run
• 24:58
Speaker 3: a lot of gap scheme where you can double a
• 25:00
Speaker 3: point of attack. You know, you can you know, pull
• 25:02
Speaker 3: a guard, which is not the same kind of athleticism
• 25:05
Speaker 3: as a zone run game. And and could you know,
• 25:09
Speaker 3: you don't see a lot of that. And again I'm
• 25:11
Speaker 3: not in their meetings, but it just seems to me
• 25:13
Speaker 3: that that makes sense.
• 25:15
Speaker 1: It's interesting because I feel like they used to do
• 25:17
Speaker 1: it more, even when they had great athletes like Jason Peters.
• 25:20
Speaker 1: They would run tackle traps at the time. Yeah, don't
• 25:24
Speaker 1: do that anymore. I don't know why or what.
• 25:27
Speaker 4: Well, they're also playing with a backup right tackling while
• 25:30
Speaker 4: he hasn't certainly Fred Johnson has not been bad. You're
• 25:33
Speaker 4: not considering, oh my god, you can't put him out
• 25:35
Speaker 4: there by any stretch. He's probably been solid, but he's
• 25:38
Speaker 4: still a backup right tackle.
• 25:40
Speaker 1: Yeah, you would think my Allota with his rugby brock
• 25:42
Speaker 1: brounds a background a guy you could pull a little
• 25:44
Speaker 1: bit or trap a little bit, and I'm not sure
• 25:47
Speaker 1: they've done that all year long.
• 25:48
Speaker 3: You know, this way, they could really get some doubles
• 25:50
  Speaker 3: at the point.
• 25:51
Speaker 4: Yeah, move people you know that were quarriers obviously less
• 25:56
Speaker 4: athleticism than it does, more strength and you know, but
• 25:59
Speaker 4: they don't really do very much of that.
• 26:01
  Speaker 2: Jeff.
• 26:01
Speaker 5: Remember remember early in the season, first three or four weeks,
• 26:05
Speaker 5: we're blown away how they would basically not run on
• 26:08
  Speaker 5: the outside.
• 26:09
  Speaker 3: Yeah, we couldn't.
• 26:10
Speaker 5: We'd asked Greg on inside of the tape, Hey, Greg,
• 26:13
Speaker 5: have you've seen this? And Greg would go, you know what,
• 26:15
Speaker 5: now I think about it, they're not doing it, but
• 26:16
Speaker 5: we didn't know why.
• 26:17
Speaker 2: Well, still kind of the.
• 26:19
Speaker 5: Same issue now, although they did run fairly well outside
• 26:22
Speaker 5: last week. But overall, Jeff, it just seems to me
• 26:27
Speaker 5: that the lack of physical nature of this offensive line
• 26:30
Speaker 5: in terms of being healthy for whatever reason, they're just
• 26:33
Speaker 5: not the same line. And it's absolutely been the same
• 26:36
Speaker 5: thing the entire season. They've really not gotten close to
• 26:39
Speaker 5: what they were last season.
• 26:40
Speaker 1: So here's another interesting observation. And I'm wondering how it's
• 26:43
  Speaker 1: gonna work out.
• 26:45
  Speaker 2: You know.
• 26:45
Speaker 1: The only I've watched two games the Raiders last played
• 26:48
Speaker 1: the Broncos and the Chargers, and both of those teams
• 26:51
Speaker 1: were very, very aware, as every team is of Max Crosby.
• 26:55
Speaker 1: I don't think I saw too many snaps where there
• 26:57
  Speaker 1: wasn't a chip, a double team. There a triple team
• 27:00
Speaker 1: on a hail Mary. Then I saw, you know, on
• 27:03
Speaker 1: a three man rush, they still triple team them. So
• 27:07
Speaker 1: he's gonna line up over right tackle Greg, That's where normal.
• 27:10
Speaker 4: The most part, they move him around there at times
• 27:13
Speaker 4: he's a joker, but I would say for the most part,
• 27:17
Speaker 4: he is clearly lining up on on the left side
• 27:19
  Speaker 4: of the defense.
• 27:20
Speaker 1: Right, so that means he's going to be lining up
• 27:23
Speaker 1: across Fred Johnson at right tackle. I would imagine, even
• 27:27
Speaker 1: though we know that Eagles don't love to help out
• 27:30
Speaker 1: their tackles, that they may have to be in that scenario.
• 27:33
Speaker 1: And then who are you using? Are you using Cam
• 27:36
Speaker 1: Latu more? Are you trying to get Greg Kalkatara out there?
• 27:39
Speaker 1: Because you want to be able right to be able
• 27:42
Speaker 1: to pass the ball to Goddter, but be able to
• 27:45
Speaker 1: help your right tackle out with some with with additional blocking.
• 27:49

• 30:40
  Speaker 3: Ah, that's a great question.
• 30:41
Speaker 4: I mean it will depend on the down and distance
• 30:43
Speaker 4: and then you know the situation. I would doubt you'd
• 30:46
Speaker 4: see that in early downs, you know, because the nature
• 30:51
Speaker 4: of the offense and what the play calls will be
• 30:53
Speaker 4: will likely not demand it. And just by the way
• 30:55
Speaker 4: he's lined up on the left side, let's see six
• 31:01
Speaker 4: and about six hundred and seventy times in seven hundred
• 31:04
Speaker 4: and ninety four snaps a lot.
• 31:06
Speaker 1: That's a lot of going over the right tackle Fred
• 31:09
Speaker 1: Johnson's nightmare this week.
• 31:10
  Speaker 4: Okay, Yeah, they'll have a Yeah, I think that's like
• 31:13
Speaker 4: I said, definitely a function of down. And you know,
• 31:16
Speaker 4: if it's third and nine, you've got to be aware
• 31:18
Speaker 4: you're probably not going to let him, let Fred Johnson
• 31:21
Speaker 4: block him one on one.
• 31:23
Speaker 3: But if you're a normal down in distant situations where
• 31:25
Speaker 3: you're not going to have deep drops and even if
• 31:27
Speaker 3: you throw it, you're probably more in a timing rhythmic
• 31:30
Speaker 3: type concept, then you may not need to do that. Now,
• 31:34
Speaker 3: he may win a couple of times quick, you know,
• 31:37
Speaker 3: because he's that good, and Johnson is obviously a backup.
• 31:40
Speaker 3: But you know, it's funny. I almost think back to
• 31:43
  Speaker 3: what the.
• 31:43
Speaker 4: Believe it or not, what the Titans did last week
• 31:45
Speaker 4: against Miles Garrett, who was not a factor as a
• 31:48
Speaker 4: pass rusher at all, and going into that game, everybody
• 31:50
Speaker 4: would have said, oh my god, he's going to break
• 31:52
Speaker 4: the record this week against the Titans, and obviously.
• 31:55
Speaker 3: You know that did not happen.
• 31:57
Speaker 2: They do, by the way, what did they wind up
• 31:58
  Speaker 2: doing well?
• 32:00
Speaker 4: The way they play the First of all, they did
• 32:01
Speaker 4: what the Eagles are not going to do, which they
• 32:03
Speaker 4: played a lot with six oer Lignemen.
• 32:05
Speaker 3: I don't think, well, maybe the Eagles will do that.
• 32:07
Speaker 4: They have done it at times this season, and they
• 32:10
Speaker 4: had a lot of what we call five man surfaces,
• 32:13
Speaker 4: you know, so it made it hard, and then when
• 32:15
Speaker 4: they threw it, everything was quick, you know they So
• 32:18
Speaker 4: I mean, there's ways to deal with that. Sure, you know,
• 32:21
Speaker 4: Garrett only had one sack and it came on a scheme,
• 32:24
Speaker 4: not on beating a guy, So you know there's ways
• 32:27
Speaker 4: to do it. But of course, the Titans last week
• 32:30
Speaker 4: also ran for one hundred and eighty yards. So if
• 32:32
Speaker 4: you can run the ball really well and control the game,
• 32:35
Speaker 4: you know, it really minimizes a pass rusher. So we'll
• 32:38
Speaker 4: see if the Eagles do. You know, it's an interesting game.
• 32:41
Speaker 4: Just to make a final point. I don't want to
• 32:43
Speaker 4: feel like I'm the only one talking here, but it's
• 32:45
Speaker 4: an interesting point because you look at this game and
• 32:47
Speaker 4: you feel like they can run the ball, and I
• 32:50
Speaker 4: know they haven't run well most of the season, but
• 32:52
Speaker 4: you look at it and feel like they can and
• 32:54
Speaker 4: run well. But then you also look at the corners
• 32:56
Speaker 4: and feel like, hey, maybe we can do some damage
• 32:58
Speaker 4: on the outside. So you know, what's the balance there?
• 33:03
Speaker 1: Right, Listen, this might not be a bad idea this
• 33:07
Speaker 1: week to work a little bit backwards come out with
• 33:09
Speaker 1: your jumbo under center. The path out of that, because
• 33:12
Speaker 1: that's when you're going to have your most protection against Crawlton.
• 33:15
Speaker 1: You're not going to throw them on the field as
• 33:16
Speaker 1: an extra tackle on third and seven because then you're
• 33:19
  Speaker 1: losing a weapon.
• 33:20
Speaker 2: You're not doing the past game right.
• 33:21
Speaker 1: So yeah, it may help you to work a little
• 33:23
Speaker 1: backwards to use the pass early to set up the run,
• 33:26
Speaker 1: but not forget the run, which they might have done
• 33:28
Speaker 1: a little bit last last week.
• 33:30
Speaker 5: Well, if you look at Jeff if you look at
• 33:32
Speaker 5: the last two opponents or two out of last year,
• 33:35
Speaker 5: they were the Raiders run defense was they got ran
• 33:39
Speaker 5: on RJ. Harvey had a good game against him last week.
• 33:42
Speaker 5: The Broncos ran for well over one hundred yards.
• 33:46
Speaker 2: They don't have a great front.
• 33:47
Speaker 5: We know Thomas Booker, we need to mention them old Eagle,
• 33:49
Speaker 5: but Eagles could probably use it for a little bit
• 33:51
Speaker 5: for depth. But it's not a big deal. Barron Young's
• 33:54
Speaker 5: doing a good job. He's been a nice story development.
• 33:57
  Speaker 2: But their team.
• 33:57
Speaker 5: Adam Butler, if you really follow league, might remember them
• 34:00
Speaker 5: from the Patriots, who's been with the Raider for a
• 34:03
Speaker 5: little bit. They just don't have anyone who's a great
• 34:05
Speaker 5: run stopper. So yeah, this is a good opportunity to
• 34:08
Speaker 5: I hate TV uses term we try not to establish
• 34:11
Speaker 5: the run, which is kind of a myth you can't cut,
• 34:13
Speaker 5: which it basically means you could come out running and
• 34:15
Speaker 5: see if you could establish something and feel good about
• 34:18
Speaker 5: yourself in that area.
• 34:19
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's also a way to keep Max Frosbie off
• 34:21
Speaker 1: your quarterback is to try to run the ball. Ye,
• 34:23
Speaker 1: Unfortunately we can't at this point of the season. Maybe
• 34:28
Speaker 1: last year, certainly this year not. We can't say, hey,
• 34:31
Speaker 1: the Chargers and the Broncos ran the ball really well
• 34:35
Speaker 1: against the Raiders, so the Eagles shoul this should be
• 34:39
Speaker 1: something they might want to look at, because the Eagles
• 34:41
Speaker 1: have not run the ball well against anybody outside of
• 34:45
Speaker 1: one game against the Giants that's literally it. Even last
• 34:48
Speaker 1: week was not an impactful run game. So I think
• 34:51
Speaker 1: that they would have loved to have looked at tape
• 34:53
Speaker 1: at teams this year and say, hey, we can get
• 34:56
Speaker 1: at this team, we can run on this team, and
• 34:58
Speaker 1: I'm sure they've tried, but it just has happen. So
• 35:01
Speaker 1: sometimes we talk about the Eagles with that mentality of
• 35:03
Speaker 1: what they used to just like come out passing well.
• 35:05
Speaker 1: They they're not passing the ball very well, right, And
• 35:09
Speaker 1: my concern with hurts On and Crosby is, to your point, Greg,
• 35:13
Speaker 1: is that even if it's quick time, quick rhythm, he
• 35:16
Speaker 1: heads that there. If he doesn't see it, he holds
• 35:18
Speaker 1: onto it and then he drifts a little bit right,
• 35:20
Speaker 1: and then you're playing right into it. Then you're then
• 35:22
Speaker 1: you're making Fred Johnson have to block this guy for
• 35:25
Speaker 1: a lot longer than you want.
• 35:26
Speaker 3: Fred Johnson Black, Yeah, I mean, you know, it's this
• 35:30
  Speaker 3: stuff's always hard, you know, it's it's difficult. I mean,
• 35:35
Speaker 3: you know, I was really kind of pleased with or
• 35:38
Speaker 3: I saw on tape last week. I thought it was
• 35:39
Speaker 3: really good. You know, Let's see if they can continue
• 35:42
Speaker 3: doing that kind of thing. You know, look, obviously this
• 35:47
Speaker 3: has not been a great offense this year, but on
• 35:49
Speaker 3: another level, you could almost say, think of it this way.
• 35:53
Speaker 3: Last year they had an historic run running game, you know,
• 35:58
Speaker 3: with Barkley getting over two thousand and probably would have
• 36:00
Speaker 3: broken the record if he played the last week. Okay,
• 36:03
Speaker 3: you knew you weren't going to get that, but you
• 36:05
Speaker 3: certainly probably expected that he'd be in the fourteen fifteen hundred,
• 36:08
Speaker 3: maybe sixteen hundred. I mean, that's what you'd probably expected.
• 36:12
Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, we've talked about this before the fact
• 36:16
Speaker 4: that Jalen Hurts is really good at certain things.
• 36:20
Speaker 3: You know, nor look, last week was an aberration. He's
• 36:22
Speaker 3: not gonna throw four picks. Okay, that's an aberration, you know.
• 36:26
Speaker 3: So he's really good at being kind of a risk averse,
• 36:29
Speaker 3: doesn't turn the ball over, plays within a certain context,
• 36:34
Speaker 3: does that well, you know, normally, what we've seen in
• 36:37
Speaker 3: the past is they're very good at getting to short
• 36:40
Speaker 3: yardage situations where you know, the tush push becomes a factor,
• 36:44
Speaker 3: or it's fourth and three, and they have really nicely
• 36:47
Speaker 3: designed little quickie plays that game, you know, six yards.
• 36:50
Speaker 3: This is what they've been. This is what they were
• 36:53
  Speaker 3: last year.
• 36:54
Speaker 4: You know, we've talked about the fact that in nine
• 36:56
Speaker 4: or ten games, Jalen Hurts didn't throw for you know,
• 36:59
Speaker 4: over two hundred yards. That's that's how they won a
• 37:03
Speaker 4: year ago. It's not a knock on anybody. This is
• 37:05
Speaker 4: what their profile was, this is what their template was.
• 37:09
Speaker 4: So what you ultimately get is they're trying to play
• 37:12
Speaker 4: the same way this year. So what's been the difference
• 37:15
Speaker 4: they've been unable to run the ball with any consistency.
• 37:18
Speaker 4: So now when you can't do that, you end up
• 37:21
Speaker 4: having to throw the ball, probably a little more than
• 37:23
Speaker 4: you ideally would like. Okay, if I remember correctly, in
• 37:28
Speaker 4: the first Hard Knocks that we did, you know at
• 37:31
Speaker 4: NFL Films, I think Sirianni said something about, hey, let's
• 37:35
Speaker 4: trust the process kind of this is what we do now.
• 37:38
Speaker 4: Fans might listen to that and think, well, it's not working,
• 37:41
Speaker 4: so you got to do something else.
• 37:43
Speaker 3: We've talked about this. It's a really hard balance between then, Okay,
• 37:47
Speaker 3: changing pretty much who you are how you won a
• 37:51
Speaker 3: Super Bowl as opposed to getting better at what you
• 37:56
Speaker 3: were great at where you liked the car hard decisions
• 38:01
Speaker 3: to make. You know, fans as soon as there's two
• 38:03
Speaker 3: bad plays want coaches to change everything. That's fans and
• 38:06
Speaker 3: that's you know, hey, they're so passionate in Philly. We
• 38:09
Speaker 3: know that they're passionate everywhere, But are they These are
• 38:14
Speaker 3: hard decisions to make.
• 38:15
Speaker 1: They absolutely are. Let's flip it a little bit. One
• 38:19
Speaker 1: of the easier decisions for Vic Fangioe is how does
• 38:22
Speaker 1: he compensate for Jalen Carter, who's not going to play again.
• 38:26
Speaker 1: Last week he played Brandon Graham inside, not just a rusher,
• 38:30
Speaker 1: but even as sort of a three technique on early downs.
• 38:33
Speaker 1: He also moved held In Phillips at times inside as
• 38:35
Speaker 1: a rusher. He played Byron Young Moore. I imagine Adam
• 38:39
Speaker 1: that has to continue and they get fortunate in his schedule. Gods,
• 38:43
Speaker 1: I guess they go up against an offensive line for
• 38:45
Speaker 1: the second straight weeks. That's very bad.
• 38:47
Speaker 2: By the way, Colton Miller is out. They ruled him
• 38:49
  Speaker 2: out on Friday.
• 38:50
Speaker 5: Okay, he expected that because just so you know, when
• 38:53
Speaker 5: a starter takes less at his number less reps than
• 38:57
Speaker 5: usual these limited he almost always doesn't play coming off
• 39:00
Speaker 5: into reserve. Ian Thomas is also Ian Thomas a should play.
• 39:05
Speaker 5: It's like he sounds like he's gonna play. Gina Smith
• 39:07
Speaker 5: was ruled out Calt Miller as they said, who's still
• 39:10
Speaker 5: an I r by the way, So yeah, look at
• 39:13
Speaker 5: the opportunity is going to be there the matchups. You know,
• 39:15
Speaker 5: Greg just talk about, Yes, their identity the Eagles is
• 39:18
Speaker 5: they'd like to run the football. We'll see if they
• 39:20
Speaker 5: can do that. But conversely, you just talk about, let's
• 39:23
Speaker 5: get over the defense. The matchups are so good, Jeff,
• 39:27
Speaker 5: the Eagles. This is gonna be fascinating because on the surface,
• 39:30
Speaker 5: they shouldn't have to blitz, right, you shouldn't have to blitz.
• 39:33
Speaker 3: Who you talking about? The Eagles?
• 39:34
Speaker 5: Eagles, you shouldn't have You can if you want, and
• 39:37
Speaker 5: you should win. But we've seen Vic sometimes when he
• 39:40
Speaker 5: thinks he could. He saw the Super Bowl, we could
• 39:42
Speaker 5: go a little extreme here. They thought coming in, I
• 39:45
Speaker 5: know this for a fact, they won't have to blitz much.
• 39:48
  Speaker 2: Now.
• 39:48
Speaker 5: Did they know they wouldn't have to have one blitz?
• 39:50
Speaker 5: I don't know that, But the word I heard was
• 39:52
Speaker 5: they felt coming to the game the matchups were so
• 39:54
Speaker 5: good they shouldn't have to. As we move forward here, Greg,
• 39:59
Speaker 5: they should have do the same approach, different team, But
• 40:03
Speaker 5: the matchups are so juicy for them they.
• 40:05
Speaker 2: Should win without blitzing. I I don't see.
• 40:08
Speaker 5: I'll be interesting. The pressure rate was ridiculous against Herbert.
• 40:11
Speaker 5: It was one of the best this season of any team.
• 40:15
Speaker 5: They should win mand this is and with the weather
• 40:18
Speaker 5: and Pickett coming in town, this looks good on the surface.
• 40:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I would definitely not stop throwing those sim
• 40:25
Speaker 1: pressures though, because Nikobe Dean has just been on fire.
• 40:29
Speaker 1: I mean, he's blowing everybody up. How is Ashton gent
• 40:32
Speaker 1: in pass pro? Does he stay on the field for
• 40:34
  Speaker 1: that Greg.
• 40:38
  Speaker 3: Normally yeah he does. I don't. I can't answer that.
• 40:41
Speaker 3: I haven't studied him in that regard.
• 40:44
Speaker 1: Even if he was good at it, I could, we could.
• 40:45
Speaker 1: We've already seen Na Kobe Dean blow up, Josh Jacobs
• 40:48
Speaker 1: blow up, David Montgomery blow up, who did blow up
• 40:51
Speaker 1: on Monday night for the trial o'mari Omario and Hampton.
• 40:56
Speaker 1: Even if even if you told me Genty was really
• 40:58
Speaker 1: good at it, I would say I still think it's yeah,
• 41:00
  Speaker 1: Nikobe Dean.
• 41:01
Speaker 3: You know the biggest issue. Look, obviously they're not a
• 41:04
Speaker 3: good team. They've played some close games.
• 41:05
Speaker 4: The biggest issue they've had on offense and what I'm
• 41:08
Speaker 4: sure Pete Carroll expected, and one reason why Chip Kelly
• 41:11
Speaker 4: is no longer they are is they've not been able
• 41:13
Speaker 4: to run the ball.
• 41:14
Speaker 3: Now, look, their all line's not very good. I will
• 41:18
Speaker 3: say this about Genty.
• 41:19
Speaker 4: There have been times I watched the tape this year
• 41:21
  Speaker 4: and I don't think he's looked particularly quick. Now, I
• 41:25
Speaker 4: don't know, you know, when run game, it's like people
• 41:28
Speaker 4: starting to say you know it was Barkley lost it.
• 41:30
Speaker 4: I think when a run game doesn't work, people start
• 41:32
Speaker 4: to think the back's bad. I'll be the first to admit,
• 41:36
Speaker 4: as Adam said that I didn't think Genty was, you know,
• 41:38
Speaker 4: the best factor come out in ten years the way
• 41:40
Speaker 4: a lot of people said.
• 41:42
Speaker 3: But he certainly wasn't a step you know.
• 41:45
Speaker 4: So so I mean, I'm not going to sit here
• 41:47
Speaker 4: and say it's Genty's problem. He does he look, you know,
• 41:50
  Speaker 4: explosive to me.
• 41:51
Speaker 3: No, but you know, when your O line's not blocking well,
• 41:54
Speaker 3: and I've never been a running back carrying the ball,
• 41:56
Speaker 3: but I imagine you start to get a little tentative,
• 41:59
Speaker 3: you start to fact that there's not going to be
• 42:01
Speaker 3: any room, you know, and all of a sudden you're
• 42:03
Speaker 3: not running with any kind of confidence, you know. So
• 42:07
Speaker 3: you know, so I'm not gonna sit here and say,
• 42:09
Speaker 3: gent he's not a good player.
• 42:10
Speaker 4: But clearly they've not been able to run the ball,
• 42:13
Speaker 4: and they had to be able to run the ball
• 42:15
Speaker 4: or they don't have an offense.
• 42:16
Speaker 1: Right right, Yes, absolutely, By the way, did you guys,
• 42:20
Speaker 1: did you guys watch Bijon on Thursday night against the Bucks?
• 42:22
Speaker 1: I mean, man, well, that's just great everything, vision, moves, agility.
• 42:29
Speaker 3: I felt that, I have felt that that he's the
• 42:34
Speaker 3: best back in the league.
• 42:35
Speaker 4: But that's you know, that's just based you know, it's
• 42:38
Speaker 4: so funny because that's obviously not a statement of mathematical fact,
• 42:43
Speaker 4: but it's so funny how you know, people on and
• 42:45
Speaker 4: I've said that a few times on shows, and you know,
• 42:48
Speaker 4: like this week I got, well, you're wrong, it's Jamire Gibbs.
• 42:50
Speaker 3: Well it's you know, it's not a matter of right
• 42:53
Speaker 3: or wrong. Yeah, you know, that's what I believe based
• 42:56
Speaker 3: on tape study. And I think Kamire Gibbs is great too.
• 42:58
Speaker 3: But I mean, you know, like it's not like saying
• 43:02
Speaker 3: two or two is.
• 43:02
Speaker 1: Four right, right? It is all right, just because you're
• 43:06
Speaker 1: the fastest guy in the league doesn't make you the best.
• 43:08
Speaker 2: I mean you have to.
• 43:09
Speaker 1: I just feel like Bijon checks off so many boxes
• 43:13
Speaker 1: and he just makes a lot of really great plays
• 43:15
  Speaker 1: on his own.
• 43:16
  Speaker 5: Uh.
• 43:16
Speaker 1: But anyway, moving back, so, yeah, this should be a
• 43:18
Speaker 1: game where the Eagles defensive front manhandles. Let's be honest,
• 43:22
Speaker 1: if they should man handle the Raiders up front unless
• 43:24
Speaker 1: the Raiders have something going on schematically that we don't
• 43:27
Speaker 1: expect and maybe they will. Uh, maybe they'll be able
• 43:30
Speaker 1: to run the ball. That's really their only chance. And
• 43:33
Speaker 1: you know, the Eagle secondary has played pretty well. I
• 43:35
Speaker 1: think the Marcus ops Adam moving marcusceps in and Sidney
• 43:39
Speaker 1: Brown out was so inevitable and so obvious. And he's
• 43:42
Speaker 1: part of the difference immediately.
• 43:43
  Speaker 5: I mean, here's the thing about him. I know I
• 43:46
Speaker 5: had the ac injury last year. He's just a smart pro. Again,
• 43:51
Speaker 5: he's a box safety, right, you know, the Eagles loved
• 43:54
Speaker 5: him for that draft. Unfortunately, as it worked out, he
• 43:56
Speaker 5: also had the acal injury. But yeah, it's helped bring
• 43:59
Speaker 5: a little bit ability and that Droriy Jackson had a
• 44:01
Speaker 5: nice game, wasn't terrible. The fact their secondary played pretty
• 44:05
Speaker 5: darn well. And this is one of those games where
• 44:09
Speaker 5: you go, if this game is close, I'd be surprised.
• 44:11
Speaker 5: If the Raiders won, I'd be shocked. But that's why
• 44:14
Speaker 5: they play the game. And we've been surprised before with
• 44:16
  Speaker 5: this team.
• 44:17
Speaker 1: So all right, well, I think we've analyzed these massive.
• 44:22
Speaker 3: You know, it's look in an ideal world, this should
• 44:26
Speaker 3: be And I'm not going to sit here and say
• 44:27
Speaker 3: the Eagles should win forty to ten. You never know.
• 44:29
Speaker 3: You can't predict NFL games like that, but you know,
• 44:32
Speaker 3: in some ways this game appearing on the schedule when
• 44:36
Speaker 3: it does should be should be based on the season,
• 44:41
Speaker 3: a good get well game. Now again, whatever that means
• 44:44
Speaker 3: score wise, you know, we don't know, but it's still
• 44:46
Speaker 3: an NFL game, and if the Eagles are not playing well,
• 44:50
Speaker 3: you know, look like you said, Jeff, you made the
• 44:52
Speaker 3: point that the Raiders have played some close games. You know,
• 44:55
Speaker 3: the last thing you want to have happen in this
• 44:57
Speaker 3: game is you're early in the fourth quarter and it's
• 44:59
Speaker 3: seventeenth thirty agreed, because then one play? Could you know
• 45:04
Speaker 3: you don't want to be in the one play situation
• 45:06
Speaker 3: in the fourth quarter.
• 45:07
Speaker 1: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
• 45:11

• 46:03
Speaker 1: and an experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up.
• 46:07
Speaker 1: All right, so let's do we do best. The Eagles
• 46:08
Speaker 1: are eleven point favorites in this game, despite the fact
• 46:12
Speaker 1: that they've lost three games in a row. And uh,
• 46:16
Speaker 1: well we'll start with you, Adam. Who do you got score?
• 46:19
  Speaker 3: Got it?
• 46:20
Speaker 2: Eagles twenty two the Raiders six?
• 46:23
Speaker 1: Okay, twenty two to six?
• 46:25
Speaker 2: And who is the player of the game number twenty six?
• 46:29
Speaker 1: S Kwon Barkley? Okay, boy, I always thought if they
• 46:32
Speaker 1: got Sae Kwon Barkley going then they would score like
• 46:35
  Speaker 1: thirty five points.
• 46:36
Speaker 5: Well, the Raiders are not a pushover. They're not in
• 46:39
Speaker 5: terms of defensively, I know again, they're not talented. Patrick
• 46:41
Speaker 5: Grahams are really good, Dee Coinery. He gets the most
• 46:43
Speaker 5: out of what they have. Yep, twenty two to six
• 46:46
Speaker 5: odds score game and I picked the Eagles against Eagles
• 46:49
Speaker 5: the past two games.
• 46:50
Speaker 2: No, not doing it this game.
• 46:51
  Speaker 3: No chance.
• 46:52
Speaker 2: They're not losing this game, No way.
• 46:54
Speaker 1: Okay, I'll be certain to have our social media team
• 46:57
  Speaker 1: turn that out.
• 46:58
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they who's the game?
• 47:00
  Speaker 3: You are?
• 47:01
Speaker 1: You are screwed, my friend.
• 47:03
Speaker 2: I pay on, So I'm not taking it off.
• 47:05
Speaker 1: Good All right, Greg, what do you got?
• 47:07
  Speaker 3: It's funny.
• 47:07
Speaker 4: I was gonna pick Barkley too, so I'm not going
• 47:09
Speaker 4: to change because I think that this is I think
• 47:14
Speaker 4: they also have to be pleased with what they saw
• 47:16
Speaker 4: in the first half last week in the run game
• 47:18
Speaker 4: against a good defense, And it really felt to me
• 47:21
Speaker 4: for the first time, not even counting the Giants second game,
• 47:25
Speaker 4: because it wasn't a case of long runs. It was
• 47:27
Speaker 4: a case where I felt like there was a sustaining
• 47:30
Speaker 4: feel to the run game. I mean, he was thirteen
• 47:32
Speaker 4: for sixty nine in the first half. The game got
• 47:34
Speaker 4: away from them in the second half. They just didn't
• 47:37
Speaker 4: have the ball very much, you know, for obvious reasons. Turnovers,
• 47:40
Speaker 4: but I just feel like there was something to build
• 47:42
Speaker 4: on in the run game as well. So and again,
• 47:46
Speaker 4: if Adam's correct, if weather is an issue, if the
• 47:48
Speaker 4: wins are really gusting, which you know they will be,
• 47:51
  Speaker 4: of course.
• 47:53
Speaker 3: I think the Eagles are win, gonna win this game.
• 47:55
Speaker 3: I was going to pick a similar score quite frankly,
• 47:57
Speaker 3: not the same one, but I'm gonna go twenty four
• 47:59
  Speaker 3: to nine.
• 48:01
Speaker 1: All right, nice, you got to cover for the Eagles.
• 48:05
Speaker 1: They'll be happy with that. That's a ball one, all right.
• 48:09
Speaker 1: I I you know, last week we all picked against
• 48:13
Speaker 1: the Eagles and we were correct. This week, we all
• 48:15
Speaker 1: are picking the Eagles to beat the Raiders. I've got
• 48:17
Speaker 1: them winning twenty three to sixteen. I just the spread
• 48:21
Speaker 1: being eleven. I just can't trust them to cover a
• 48:24
Speaker 1: two possession score right now, So that's why I picked
• 48:28
Speaker 1: twenty three sixteen. I am gonna go defense for Player
• 48:31
Speaker 1: of the Game. I think Jalen Phillips is gonna create
• 48:34
Speaker 1: a lot of havoc against mister stone Forsyth. Uh, and
• 48:39
Speaker 1: we'll see what happens after all. Actually, I guess jim
• 48:41
  Speaker 1: Phllips lines.
• 48:42
Speaker 3: Up Overn's up on the other side.
• 48:44
Speaker 1: The other side well either way over DJ Glaze, which
• 48:46
Speaker 1: is one of my NFL names.
• 48:52
Speaker 3: He and he went to Maryland, Maryland, right.
• 48:54
Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember the Checker wrote a lot about him.
• 48:56
Speaker 1: So he and Nolan Smith can kind of meet the
• 48:59
Speaker 1: quarterback in the middle on Sunday. So I expect the
• 49:03
Speaker 1: defense a couple of you know, sacks, maybe even a
• 49:05
Speaker 1: turnover out of it.
• 49:06
Speaker 2: So that is it.
• 49:07
Speaker 1: That is the Inside the Birds pregame show for Greg
• 49:10
Speaker 1: Cosell and Adam Kaplan. I'm Jeff Mosher. Thanks for watching
• 49:14
Speaker 1: on Inside the Birds.
