- 0:12[SPEAKER_02]: We've got a big show here.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_02]: today.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's the start of the 2026 free agency period.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_02]: But before we get into that, want to make sure you guys have signed up for only fins.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, only fins on three yards per carry.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_02]: Go to discord.gg slash only fins join on the desktop or a laptop.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_02]: Don't do it through
- 0:43[SPEAKER_02]: Alfredo, CK and Simon Post, 499 a month to see what CK of Simon, myself, coach and Eric Post on all access and where you get Miami Dolphins news before it hits Twitter, Facebook and even YouTube.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_02]: So what do you wait for?
- 1:04[SPEAKER_02]: Go ahead and join only for only fins.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_02]: That's discord.gg slash only fins.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_02]: March 9th, 2026, the legal tampering went to open at noon eastern standard time.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_02]: And here's what happened to a tongue of Iloa, is release.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_02]: Mink of its Patrick is treated to the jets.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_02]: Malik Willis becomes the dolphins next quarterback.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_02]: I believe the 22nd or 23rd or somewhere
- 1:38[SPEAKER_02]: Some more in the 20s.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: He's the next starting quarterback of the Miami Dolphins trying to fill in Dan Ray knows games.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_02]: Jason Sanders has gone after eight years.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_02]: Alec Engold is released and signs with the Los Angeles chargers with his best bud Mike McDaniel.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_02]: Willie Gay is recigned and the Dolphins go out and sign a past pressure in Joshua Oosh.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_02]: and they bring in a whole flurry of defensive backs to fill out the secondary and the special teams of units.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_02]: Along with that, Austin Jackson's contract is restructured.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_02]: That's about 15 to 16 transactions in a span of three days, John Erick Sullivan did not come to mind me to take his sweet old time.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: No, he has been very active.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that first day as a legal dampring period was kind of a roller coaster of emotions right, you go through the two-a-thing.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then you, we hear about Minka, right?
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: And they found that Minka went to the Jets and it's for a seventh and it's like, what are we doing?
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, you find out, well, it's for a little bit of cap relief, too.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: And then you're like, okay, what are you gonna do with that cap?
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: And then the big news of Malik Willis comes in.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: that was all on like the first hour of the legal tampering period.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, felt like it kind of quieted down, but now today, the, you know, official started the lead year.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: Everything's really, you know, sped up again.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen a ton of moves from the Dolphins day.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing, nothing super impactful, but I think that we're, you know, kind of seeing some of the core that roster built out with a lot of these moves.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, I think the thing that stands out to me is it's how clear it is that there was a cohesive plan as to how this was all going to kind of play out at the start of a tampering period.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_03]: It was very clear that, you know, cut to a trade manca, sign milk was in the cards or at least it was the plan.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_03]: long before Monday probably, you know, even before the combine.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_03]: And the dolphins that are pretty good job of holding their cards to the vest, obviously, with not really letting people know how much they were willing to get into the, um, Lake Willis bidding war, although I don't know how much of a bidding war was, uh, saying what he got.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_03]: Um, but, you know, I'm looking at,
- 4:26[SPEAKER_03]: at this this offseason so far I think the word that comes to mind is decisive and that's a welcome change because I still think from last
- 4:40[SPEAKER_03]: in the last few years when the dolphins would make a move, I feel like there was all this kind of speculation as to, well, who's really behind this one?
- 4:48[SPEAKER_03]: Is this a McDaniel signing?
- 4:49[SPEAKER_03]: Is this a Greer signing?
- 4:51[SPEAKER_03]: And right now, it seems very apparent front and center that Sullivan and Half-Layer kind of in lockstep on all of these moves, and there's not really any ambiguity behind it.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_02]: Well, now looks like the Miami Dolphins organization is moving forward more so towards the future, especially with the release of Tua Tunga by Lola.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's a post June 1st designation.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: They're paying him $54 million this year.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: Almost a $67.4 million in dead cap in 2026.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_02]: All around 32 million in 2027.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_02]: And a full record.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_02]: for that gap.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_02]: And no team and league history has ever paid for, paid more to move on from one player.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_02]: And John Narex love and made the call.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, I mean, you take a look at the 2025 tape, you take a look at his value.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: What he's not able to do, the injury concerns, the concussions, you could even say the attitude that he carried from the 2024 offseason to now.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: you can't really defend a $56 million quarterback that went what six and eight in 2025.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, is that defensible coach?
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: No, and I think that I think all three of us were pretty big to a supporters throughout his time here, but I think that it also reached a point for everybody maybe not at the exact same time that everybody is on the same page that it was time to move on
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: everybody involved for the fans for the team for two of himself going to Atlanta and getting a fresh start there.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: One note on that I was listening to the squad show unlocked on and they were talking about the transaction and the two of transaction has not been processed yet.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: They announced the Bradley Chub one doesn't mean there's not going to happen just there may be I guess some
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: So that technically hasn't been processed yet, but it will be, and I think that, you know, can't wait for it to be done, right?
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, it's just a little bit left, right?
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: Until we can cut ties and then wish him well and be completely done.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, it's one of those things where I think when you get to this,
- 7:31[SPEAKER_03]: And it feels a lot more anticlimactic than what I think a lot of people expected it to be, you know, I think people expected this kind of big dramatic separation, but, you know, it really is just kind of a, hey, this is what we're doing, we're cutting to a, you know, and to your point coach, it did get up to a point where, you know, things kind of became indefensible with to a, there was a time where he was a very good quarterback and he did earn that contract that he got,
- 8:01[SPEAKER_03]: Um, with what he had done, you know, in the season two seasons before that, um, but the play since that time was not up to, you know, the standard that he had previously set for himself, um, and I think the unfortunate reality is, you know, with as much of a chip on his shoulders, he had kind of developed because he, he did have this reputation of this guy
- 8:28[SPEAKER_03]: you know, had overcome so many doubters and, you know, very polarizing player, I don't know, you know, if it would have been a situation where keeping him around in the locker room really would have been tentable.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_03]: So I think it's just like you mentioned, kind of a needed separation for all parties.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I don't think, I think that there's a lot of exaggeration on both sides with
- 8:58[SPEAKER_03]: you know, some people thinking that the dolphins genuinely did to a dirty here and some people, you know, thinking that he's just a complete bust and, you know, the truth is typically somewhere in the middle and I think that's where it lives here with this whole to a situation.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: And one, one extra thing I wanted to kind of throw in there, you know, I know that the dollars are a NFL record for dead money, but when you adjust that for, you know, the inflation of the cap, the percentage of dead money for the, you know, this move with to a is not as high as what Denver went through with Russell Wilson.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: You see that it's a record-breaking amount, but that doesn't necessarily account for the inflation of the overall cap.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Coach, I'm glad you brought up what the squad should have unlocked on Dolphin said, and you know, our front of the podcast, perhaps, who is actually part of the only fence discord mentioned that there is a very, very tiny possibility.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_02]: had on here.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: Once again, there's a very, very tiny possibility that
- 10:22[SPEAKER_02]: they could take out the option on to a contract converted into a cash bonus to lower the dead cap, to lower the amount of money he's owed this year as well.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_02]: And then send him on his way to Atlanta.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: Instead of it being like a 99 million dollar dead cap over two years, it could be much less than that.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: This is pretty much an accounting sense of it.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_02]: monetary details I wish I did or I wish one of us did but the release still has to been official but before we move on from to I mean we have to be honest about it I mean he was probably the most exciting dolphins quarterback prospect we've had in a very long time even during the Ryan Tannhill.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_02]: era.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_02]: His 23 season was remarkable at the entire NFL and past yards, almost 30 touchdowns, probable.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, I could argue, and this is just my opinion, but he was the best quarterback in Miami since Dan Moreno in his prime.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's what I'm talking about,
- 11:36[SPEAKER_02]: What's real?
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: Now the concussion history, the injuries is what pretty much changed them.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he was a totally different player and, you know, former head coach Mike McDaniel, the dolphins organization had to change years and that's what led to the decline, you know, he lands in that lands on a one year veteran minimum deal 1.3 million dollars.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to be competing with Michael Peanick, Schuiner, who's coming off, you know, not an ace, I believe aco injuries.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_02]: That's cool.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_02]: Kevin Stephanski has a head coach now.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: And if you remember, he was actually in contention to be the Miami Dolphins head coach before being hired in Atlanta.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_02]: He was a second option right behind Jeff Hathley.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_02]: his offense, his wide zone offense, is very similar to my academic Daniel system.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_02]: And if Michael Penex is not ready, two of us could be starting in the system that fits him, and you could argue with a much better offensive line in offensive supporting cast than Miami had last year.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that two a chapter is closed.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's just moving on.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: I wish to, well, right?
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't, like you said, he's been the best quarterback, brought us some of the most exciting offences that we've seen since, you know, Marino is here.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't have hard feelings like Eric said that the truth of, you know, where the blame lies is to what happened with to a, probably,
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know, blame on both sides, right?
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: Two, it probably has his piece of it.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: The team probably has the airpiece of it.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm interested to see what he does.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: I would not be surprised at all if we see a similar scenario to when Tana Hill went to the Titans, right?
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: And goes there as suppose a backup to Marioda and ends up winning that starting job.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the same thing happened with Tua.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think that, again, fresh start for everybody,
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: The dolphins, the, you know, the coaching staff, the fans, right?
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: We get a fresh start with a new quarterback and new regions to be mad at him.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, two of goes and gets a fresh start with a new team doesn't have the organization, you know, constantly looking over his shoulder with the, the whole concussion worries, all of that and we'll find out, right?
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: We'll find out.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: In Atlanta, whether he is no longer the player that he was or whether he was being held back here for whatever reason, but I think you're right, and some that, you know, we're not done with to a right weather.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: whether to a goes to Atlanta and to a lights it up right and half the fan base as I told you so or to a goes there and fails and half the fan base tells you I told you so I don't I don't think we're done right just get a little distance from it.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean listen.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_03]: Tutu is credit.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_03]: I think that Atlanta is as close to an ideal landing spot as there is for him playing in a division where the furthest north you have to go with Charlotte.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_03]: Playing in a dome for half of your games with a team that does have a really strong supporting cast assuming Kyle Pitz returns in Atlanta.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_03]: And with an offense that's already accustomed to a left handed quarterback.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, I think with Atlanta, there is a chance that he has some really good traction.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_03]: We remember the best game he had of its season this past year was in Atlanta.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think that that really settles anything if he goes and plays well in Atlanta.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_03]: I think two is one of these quarterbacks and to be fair,
- 15:43[SPEAKER_03]: Every one aside from Jalen Hertz in the 2020 draft class has and Joe Burrell.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_03]: Everyone is love to a Herbert.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_03]: They've all still got questions about the postseason and actual team success down the stretch.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't I don't really think that you know.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_03]: There's going to be.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think it's going to be as to a centric as far as some of the discourse that we have, but I do think that there's going to be a lot of, you know, to a versus milk willous comparisons.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't really know how fair that is, but it's just, it's just what's bound to happen.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_03]: It's amazing.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you can compare those two, so those two go to the back, but very completely different for sure.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you could compare Phoenix and to a,
- 16:37[SPEAKER_02]: For sure, you can compare Phoenix and to a similar style of game, left hand and this one has more experience.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_02]: Both of them injury prone as well.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_02]: The comparisons aren't there, but that's for the Atlanta Falcons and the Falcons fan base to talk about the Tua era is over in Miami.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_02]: And we're turning the chapter to Maliquos.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_02]: Three years, $67 and a half million dollars,
- 17:06[SPEAKER_02]: twenty-and-a-half million signing bonus.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_02]: Only has a 1.25 million cap hit in twenty-26.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: This is base salary.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that's a base salary, I'm sorry.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_02]: That is his base salary with his signing bonus being twenty-two and a half million dollars.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_02]: It looks very similar to the Justin Fields two year, forty-five million dollars with the
- 17:36[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of connections with Malik Willis, Jeff Hathley, John Erick Sullivan.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_02]: I mean,
- 17:43[SPEAKER_02]: His 11 games across two seasons in Green Bay.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_02]: Jeff Hathley was with him for two years, John Erick's little and VP of Player Personnel.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_02]: They all made the decision to go after and sign Malik Willis two years ago after he had a disastrous disastrous seasons in Tennessee.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_02]: 972 yards, six touchdowns, zero picks, almost 80% completion rate, 9.4 yards per attempt,
- 18:12[SPEAKER_02]: 42 rushes, 161 yards, three rushing touchdowns, almost six yards per carry, zero interceptions over two, over those two seasons, over those 11 games.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like it's a small sample size, but do you guys think this is maybe the beginning of a quarterback who,
- 18:35[SPEAKER_02]: is fully developed and knows how the NFL, the schematics, opposing defense is work and how to fit within Bobby Slowix, you know, Shannon Hence type of scheme.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a good start.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: close to fully developed.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, you've got to see it happen on a bigger sample size and I think that it's unrealistic to expect him to keep up those numbers given a larger sample size.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to throw an interception someday.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, just that the style of quarterback that he is, it time is going to, you know, press the issue and going to take risks.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think of the key for a player like Malik Willis that he has seemed to.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: At least going into the right direction and green be like in green bay he wasn't being asked to to carry a team and be super man right so he was able to play within a system and you know only you know put on the cape for lack of a better term when he needed to and I think that if you can get him into a similar.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: Mindset in Miami.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: Then I think you're going to have a really good quarterback.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think you have somebody that's shown the ability to make good decisions, take care of the ball, but has the talent and the explosiveness to go out and play hero ball when you need it to happen, right?
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a matter of limiting that, right?
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: Now having him not put himself into unnecessary hits or, you know,
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: not to tie it back to two or right, but that was one of the things he struggled with right was when when do you need to take that hit for that first down right when do you need to to take that deep shot and that was that's what you kind of have to control right I think that Malik Willis is going to come in I think that we're going to see
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: a lot of different things improved just because of what he brings like you are going from and I'm not taking anything from Pula right to a had the stuff that at least at one point that he was elite at right the the pre-stab the accuracy but then you go to a completely different style player in Malik Willis and now you're looking to player that
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: You're threatening every inch of the field on almost every play, right?
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: You run wide zone with A-chan with a boot to Willis, and you are threatening every inch horizontally, right?
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: And then Willis has the arm to stretch that vertically as well.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, the potential is there for a lot, very, very low-risk move, like you said
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: a quarterback, right?
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: So even if he performs as a top 15, you are getting a bargain for a starting level quarterback.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not a, it's not a move that prevents you from doing anything else, right?
- 21:46[SPEAKER_01]: We, you know, we would like to think that John Erick Sullivan and Jeff Hathley feel like Malik Willis is the franchise quarterback and that we got him on.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: you know a discount deal and all of this stuff but we don't we don't know that like they could still have questions about it as well and be ready to infuse some more competition into the room but you know when you consider the value in the upside I have a hard time finding any reason that anyway should be you know not like the move.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, I think that there's a few misconceptions about this move.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_03]: Number one is I think people have made this move out to be more than what it is, you know, I think the idea that.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, well, Malik Willis is our quarterback going forward is a complete overreaction.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_03]: This is not the contract you give to a guy that you're just handing the keys of your franchise two for the next five, ten years.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_03]: you do have the leverage and the ability to do something different at the quarterback position.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_03]: If things don't go well for you, John Eric Sullivan has made comments and we've seen with what's happened with Tua and how painful that cap it is, it's extremely painful.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_03]: Um, that he's willing to make those hard decisions at quarterback when it's time to come to it.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't think it precludes you from, let's say if things go badly, taking a quarterback in 27 in the first round.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think you're precluded from that at all.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_03]: Um, this is a guy that drafted Jordan that he would, he was in the front office when they drafted Jordan love while still having Aaron Rogers.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_03]: This is, I think that there's a lot of reflexive, you know, same old dolphins,
- 23:39[SPEAKER_03]: in people that make them think that, well, here they go, signing a backup quarter back to be their guy for the next five, ten years.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_03]: But also, let's take it back a step further, because there's a group of people that say, well, you know, he was a bust with Tennessee.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_03]: Well, if you're telling me that he can't become a franchise quarterback in 89 pass attempts,
- 24:07[SPEAKER_03]: in Green Bay.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_03]: But you're telling me he can become a bust in 66 pass attempts in Tennessee.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_03]: That's not quite how it works.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_03]: Let's remember this is a guy who was drafted with the idea that he was the type of quarterback that was going to have to sit for a few seasons in order to develop.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_03]: This is not a guy who was supposed to be, you know, out the box ready to go.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_03]: He was a
- 24:33[SPEAKER_03]: And those recent were the tools that you see on film, the arm strength, the speed.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think what you mentioned in terms of the type of offense that he ran in Green Bay, it was very conservative, but they were also very selectively aggressive with him.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_03]: because when you look at the yards per attempt to well over 10 yards per attempt in both of his stance in Green Bay, so they were stretching the field with him, although on very limited attempts.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, I agree, I think it's a strong contract for the upside that you have.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_03]: I think undoubtedly there is a lot of upside with Malik Willis.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_03]: I think that the unknown of the contract is what is his
- 25:23[SPEAKER_03]: I think his ceiling is quite high as he's shown because this is stuff that's been put on tape in regular season games, we've seen guys get paid off of preseason performances.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_03]: So I would say that this is a, again, just a low-risk, potentially very high reward
- 25:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and especially with the contract he's even he's not given 30 plus million dollars a year and I mean coach who said that's not handing the keys over to a guy for a franchise and for sure you know this organization thinks there are actual concerns with Malik Willis, I mean he's never been a full-time star for 17 game NFL season.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: When averers could very well, you serve him in training camp.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: You don't know what is going to look like in training camp as well.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe yours has a phenomenal, phenomenal camp works his way through the off season.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: And they're like, I mean, somehow yours becomes the next Brock party.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we saw last season, that wasn't necessarily case, but you never know, they could also be drafting a quarterback in this year's NFL draft.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_02]: You got guys like tail and green, Sawyer Robertson, and even Jalen Daniels who have on par or a little bit better athleticism than Malik Willis and
- 26:58[SPEAKER_02]: have almost the same amount of questions as Malik Willis did coming out in his 2020, what was it 2020, I think the 2022 draft class, right?
- 27:10[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe they develop behind Malik Willis and see what Malik Willis has done and improve and maybe they become better or in 2027 if Malik Willis is not the guy after seeing him for one year,
- 27:27[SPEAKER_02]: games with, you know, whatever, you know, roster he has on offense, which is worse than what Green Bay had last season, but a little bit better than what Tennessee has.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_02]: And if it's five six, you know, wins that Malik Willis can get out of that, you could potentially be in the play for a start in quarterback in 2027.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_02]: You maybe might not get archmaning or Dante more, but, you know,
- 27:56[SPEAKER_02]: super highly athletic freak and you make him sit behind Malik Willis for another year or so and you give him the keys.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_02]: For sure, but I'll say one thing.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think Jeff Hathley will just hand over the job to Malik Willis.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_02]: I do think when he wears and whoever else the dolphins potentially draft in the 2026 NFL draft, they will actually get
- 28:23[SPEAKER_02]: you know, the opportunity to start.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it'll be a good competition.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_02]: But with the system, the scheme and the coaching, Malik Willis is definitely the favorite to win this job.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I agree.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: And again, that's the big thing here is that the dollar amounts that were spent here and the way it's allocated does not prevent you from doing anything else.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: Even when you look at,
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: The amount of money at the dolphins are allocating to the quarterback position right now between the dead money from the two a contract between the cap hit from the mullete contract and of course, years.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: They're not even at the top of the like they're close to the top of the league, but it again right same idea with the record breaking dead money right this isn't just a completely unheard of.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: quarterback room cap hit right now.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: So there's still room to do other stuff.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think that they, I think they're open to bringing in another quarterback in the draft and like you said us on like, I don't, I don't think that they are going into this saying that, you know, Malik Willis is the unquestion number one.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: This is not,
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Eric, you talked about like, you know, the fans that were damaged by what's happened in the past and in the past, we've seen the team be afraid of bringing in a back up that's going to challenge to a.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_01]: And we're in a whole new world here that I don't think that we're going to have that, right?
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think that, you know, everything that John Eric Sullivan and Jeff Haffley have said that
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: do not say that we are going to go and give a quarterback a mid range contract and just say we're done, right?
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: The team's yours have fun, right?
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they will, he's going to be the front runner, right?
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to go into campus the number one quarterback, but if he doesn't perform, I don't think that they're going to, you know, I thought they're going to be afraid to make
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: Um...
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: Malik Willis is not Matt Flynn, right?
- 30:36[SPEAKER_01]: But you've seen the same thing happen there where you go out and you sign a free agent quarterback and then you go when you draft a Russell Wilson and round three and you let it play out, right?
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: You don't tie yourself to one quarterback right away.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: So I would not be surprised to see that competition this year, but like you guys have said, if this flames out right if Malik Willis is a major busty can't handle
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: We're not in any worse position next year than what we are right now.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's a win-win all the way around.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_03]: And let's go ahead and just I just had one last thing I wanted to squeeze in here.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_03]: Let's not forget remember I think this is a move that's been in the works for a long time.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_03]: When he said, unequivocally, they are grafting a quarter back this year.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_03]: I have no reason to believe that he will not do that this season.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think the Malik Willis signing changes that math in his mind.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, with that, we'll move on from the topic and head to Rick.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_02]: Somewhere between the first warm weekend and realizing short season is getting close.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_02]: Factors are how I stop letting a busy schedule be my excuse.

- 32:11[SPEAKER_02]: Ready in two minutes, I don't need to plan and I don't need to cook and I save time.

- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: Again, for an entire year.

- 33:25[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get 50% off and free breakfast for a year.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_02]: Make healthier eating easy with factor.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_02]: And we're back.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's be honest of what the offense looks like now with Malik Willis at quarterback.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_02]: You really only have Jalen Wattle, who's the only genuine, reliable, past-catcher in the room.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: He has a genuine, wide receiver one.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_02]: After him, yeah, you have Malik Washington for sure.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you have something with the always junior who don't necessarily know yet.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_02]: Sandra Wilson's junior is a free agent.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_02]: Nick Westbrook Akine was released.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_02]: Greg Dulcice was resigned and I mean, him being resigned matters a little bit here.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this was a tight end that led the NFL in New York's for catch.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_02]: yards after catch per perception.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_02]: Jim Waters, a genuine wider receiver one.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_02]: But outside of that, the dolphins really don't have any other pass catching weapons in the wide receiver tied in room at all.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: No, you need to, you need to see additions there.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, another kind of throw out that it would be Taj Washington.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: He played with
- 34:44[SPEAKER_01]: Caleb Williams at USC, right in Caleb Williams had the kind of the same abilities that Malik Willis does to be able to scramble and make something happen.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: And Taj Washington was a very productive quarterback or wide receiver with that type of quarterback.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 35:04[SPEAKER_01]: We have her John Erick Sullivan talk about, or maybe it was half, I don't know, one of them talking about adding size to the receiver room, and they really haven't done that in free agency so far.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that's definitely something that as we get closer to the draft to keep an eye on that, I think that we're all I see.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think they may have signed someone before free agency either to the practice quarter, something.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like I'm
- 35:34[SPEAKER_03]: I don't, yeah, I don't recall who it, I know that they've signed somebody.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: It was a former second round back, right?
- 35:40[SPEAKER_01]: With the, oh, yes, I'm Paris Marshall, how did I forget?
- 35:44[SPEAKER_02]: Paris Marshall Jr. had a phenomenal pre-season his rookie year with the Carolina Panthers then completely fell off a cliff.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I feel like he was phenomenal at LSU, especially after Jamar Chase and Justin Jefferson left.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_02]: He was the guy that had to fill the shoes after the entire, you know, 2019, 2020.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_02]: LSU went to the NFL and then it was just him, you know.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_02]: And then something happened in Carolina and then he fell off the map for sure.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I mean, that's another scratch off ticket.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like we can't go into 2026 with Jalen Wattel and everybody else, including Carousmartial Jr. and say at the wide receiver room is set.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that we're gonna see something else added as far as size.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's gonna be
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: probably more significant than a couple of day three guys or something like that, I think that we do have to see more added to it.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_01]: You brought up Dolce, it'll be interesting to see what we get out of jail and conures who didn't play last season, but there's another receiving tight end that can.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: do some stuff.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, every year we've talked about Devon HN the way that he can, you know, change things is with his ability to be able to split out and stuff like that as well.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_01]: So, it'll be interesting to see how, you know, Jeff Haffley, Bobby Slowick, that whole staff,
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: Alters how they're using Devon HM, will he continue to be that?
- 37:17[SPEAKER_01]: That workhorse, like a kind of got to the point with HM in the backfield that HM was the only running back that felt like Mike McDonald trusted.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_01]: So as we may be seeing more of a rotation, does that open up other opportunities to use HM?
- 37:36[SPEAKER_01]: split out a little bit as well.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously not going to take them away from being a running back, but it's a conversation we've had over and over again about each and
- 37:48[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Eric, I think Coach left out a very prominent name that Dolphins fans have been accustomed to.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_02]: And that's tight end.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_02]: Julian Hill, who's no longer with the Dolphins, I think a lot of people can celebrate that.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_02]: But last episode, which was our draft episode, we'll still be continuing the draft series.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_02]: We talk extensively.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_02]: about offensive tackles, and that's, you know, a big hole for Miami, whether or not Austin Jackson stays with the dolphins.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_02]: If, you know, he did have a restructure in his contract.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_02]: What happens if he potentially gets injured again?
- 38:28[SPEAKER_02]: We do know that John Erick Sullivan within Green Bay and Green Bay and Green Bay's philosophy was to draft tackles and convert them into guards and maybe into your offensive linemen.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like center, kind of like what they did with Elton Jenkins, what they did with Sean Ryan, what they also did with Jordan Morgan, but then he moved out back to left tackle.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_02]: He started off as a left guard, went to the left tackle as well.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_02]: If the dolphins do pick an offensive lineman with the 11-pick, whether it's somehow, you know, Maui Gola, whether it's Monroe Freeling, it could be I own from Penn State as well.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like receiver becomes the next most important thing.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_02]: And that's just a big hole in my minor right now.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I feel like receiver would become the next biggest hole, but, you know, I think,
- 39:25[SPEAKER_03]: What you do in the past is an indicator of what you do in the future, and Matthew Golden was the first receiver taken really highly by Green Bay in a long time.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, position they really did invest heavily into in their time.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_03]: It was tight end.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_03]: They drafted Luke Musgrave relatively high.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_03]: They drafted Tucker craft in the second round.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_03]: It would not shock me.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_02]: Max Claire, are you saying Max Claire, they're going to drive Max Claire?
- 39:56[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, I just made her Michael Trig.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_03]: It wouldn't, I wouldn't be shocked.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_03]: Sam, I wish I had a Stanford.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I wouldn't be shocked if they, if they say, you know what, we would rather have a really solid receiving Titan duo with,
- 40:16[SPEAKER_03]: You know, maybe more folks know guys, yeah, I mean, listen, I think that that's if we're if we're just kind of looking at what Green Bay did schematically and I think a lot of it can work in Miami.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_03]: Just from the perspective of number one, I think you will see a lot more running back by committee when you look at the way that the carries were split and Josh Jacobs is much more of a traditional work horse back then.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_03]: Devon H and I understand he was hurt, but you look at Chris Brooks and Marshall on Lloyd and kind of the run that they were able to get in Green Bay, and I think Jalen Wright, Ollie Gordon are going to have roles next season in this offense.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_03]: And again, I think that it's going to be kind of wide receiver by committee as well.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_03]: You know, kind of like what they did in Green Bay there now granted a lot of that was because a different guy was hurt every week and they had to kind of cycle through their players.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_03]: But I think that they're going to continue to build from the inside out.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think Tyden might actually be more of a priority as far as John Eric Sullivan is concerned.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_03]: Granted.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_03]: I'd love to get a big wide receiver.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_03]: If Malachi field is there at 43, I think I'd be all over that.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if he's going to be there at 43.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe Carnal Tade out of pick number 11.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe Kenyansodique at pick number 11.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they're a crazy, listen, if we can, we can get, we can get crazy with the pick stuff, but we'll save that for another, for another pod.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, I think Titan might be considered still even with Dulwich as big of a need in the eyes of John Erick Sullivan and company.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead, Coach.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_01]: No, I was going to say I agree with Eric that Titan is still a very big need.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they've viewed Dulwich as being a Titan one when you look at the different types of Titans.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_01]: they've brought in and Green Bay, they've had a little more inlineability than what Dolce such does.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_01]: One thing that I would point out is that we're talking about positions of need in the wider sea of a room.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_01]: You do have Jalen Waddle as that number one receiver, but I feel like when you look at the corner back room, who's the number one corner back in the room right now?
- 42:56[SPEAKER_01]: Same thing in the edge room, is chopper number one edge.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of, a lot of needs on this team right now, a lot of different ways that they can go with it.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm glad you brought up the defense because it's no man's land in Jeff Haffley's defense right now.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm glad they resigned, will engage junior.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like he was underplayed a lot under Anthony Weaver's defense.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_02]: if you can be utilized the same way as Leo Chanel was in Kansas City or the same exact way he was in Kansas City as that past rushing linebacker next to Jordan Brooks and Tyrell Dodson.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's a pretty decent linebacker core right there.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_02]: He's a two times bull champion 72 career games.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_02]: seven sacks, four picks, six one, around 250.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's a stand up Russia guy that can help out on those stuns, those blitzes, those sim pressure that fifth designated pass for a shooter as well.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_02]: And he's under 30 years old.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_02]: He knows the system.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_02]: He's an athletic linebacker that can blitz, that can cover.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_02]: And he has that continuity value.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_02]: And he's cheap
- 44:14[SPEAKER_02]: He's cheap as well.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_02]: He's got that blitz production value as well.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: And with how Jeff Hathley wants to run it, I mean, why not?
- 44:23[SPEAKER_02]: He's a speed linebacker who creates in the past and game.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_02]: Make a Fitzpatrick went to the jet.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_02]: KJ Britz, special team snaps are gone.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_02]: Will the gay snaps should go up as well?
- 44:33[SPEAKER_02]: And he's got good football IQ and postseason experience.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I think this is more sort of a culture guy as well on the linebacker room.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think the trend that I'm seeing with the the guys on defense that they're either bringing or keeping around is that you're looking at.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_01]: low cost guys that can do multiple things you've heard halfly talk about wanting to be able to to morph from a 4 3 to a 3 4 without changing the person on the field.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_01]: So when you look at a guy like KJ Britt that they let walk, that's a very one-dimensional player, right?
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: He's a off-ball
- 45:19[SPEAKER_01]: plug the hole, run stop, and linebacker, and that's about the limit of what he does.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_01]: But when you look at Willi Gay that can be an off-ball line backer in a fourth or three, he can play some on the edge in a three or four, same idea with Uche that you could be a fourth or three defensive end, and kind of a wide nine, kind of the same, same idea of what you would use Chop Robinson, but then can also stand up a little.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think that Uche moves pretty well in the open field.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: build a defense around.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_01]: But he can be solved.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_01]: Even when he go to Lonnie Johnson, who they signed from the Raiders, he was a cornerback coming out of college, kind of in the same mold as if he fell off on with it was a cornerback in college converted to safety.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_01]: Again, another player that
- 46:08[SPEAKER_01]: can play multiple positions.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that at this point you want Lonnie Johnson being a corner, right?
- 46:15[SPEAKER_01]: He's not going to be your slot defender, but as a guy that can has the range to play deep, but can come down and cover and man coverage occasionally.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_01]: Like these are low-cost guys that can do multiple things.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: And when you kind of put all of that together,
- 46:32[SPEAKER_01]: then it gives you the freedom, the flexibility to go and pursue the guys, the most talented guys, right?
- 46:41[SPEAKER_01]: It puts you in a position where you don't have to go out and say, okay, I need a off-ball line back, right?
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: I need a...
- 46:51[SPEAKER_01]: a free safety, right?
- 46:52[SPEAKER_01]: You have these guys that can do multiple things and it allows you to get to that point where we're always talking about pick best player available.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_01]: And when you fill out the core of the defense with role players that can do multiple things, then that allows you to draft a best player available and put them in the defense doing what they do best and then kind of fill in around that.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think it is a really good kind of, it's emblematic of the tin building philosophy that you see with the new brain trust where it's, you know, you use free agency for depth and you draft your difference makers.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and I think that that's kind of what they're positioning themselves for, I don't think any of these guys in a vacuum is going to be, you know, the guys that make or break your defense, but having these players like you said coach.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_03]: doesn't really paint you into a corner to where you really feel a lot of pressure to address any one position, you know, because oh my god, we have just nothing here.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_03]: I think linebackers in a pretty good space right now with the three guys that you have there.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_03]: I do think Willie Gay is going to have a bigger impact this year than he did last year.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_03]: And as far as the secondary, I think that that's still probably where you're weakest right now because I do like the USA signing for for the dolphins, but again, I don't think even there you're really pressured to see, you know.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I don't think you feel like oh, we have to take the lane at 11, you know, or or something like, you know, I don't think you you're in a position where you have to think you're in a position where you get the pick who you want.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_02]: Jeff Haffley is a secondary guy through and through and there's not a lot of continuity in the defensive back room besides.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_02]: Dante Trader Jr.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_02]: and Jason and Marshall here.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_02]: That's pretty much it.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we talked about if Mink of It's Patrick was going to stare or not.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_02]: He's not in Miami anymore, for sure.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_02]: So they need a starting safety or two if trader is going to be the starting safety.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_02]: For a soul Douglas has not been resigned by Miami.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_02]: Nor has Jack Jones.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_02]: Those are your two boundary guys.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_02]: You don't have a boundary guy.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_02]: Cater co-who is a free agent coming off a major ACL, or was it a killies?
- 49:46[SPEAKER_02]: One of the two surgery didn't play at all last season.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_02]: You resigned a UDF guy and a J.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_02]: Green the third
- 49:55[SPEAKER_02]: You go out and sign Lonnie Johnson Jr., you go out and sign, you know, former Titans, quarterback Dorel Baker Jr. as well.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_02]: And all of these guys are six foot and above, and just under 200 pounds.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_02]: These are big physical guys, and their relative at life score is above a 6.5.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_02]: So these guys are athletes.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_02]: These guys are long.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_02]: That's a big safety.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_02]: That's a thumper right there.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_02]: He can play very well in cover three.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_02]: Dural Baker Jr., 6-1, 190, started 20 games for the Titans, A.J.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_02]: Green, 6-2, 190, eight pounds.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_02]: Jeff Hathley is a teacher.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_02]: He is a motivator.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_02]: His entire defensive staff comes from the college, teaching up young guys,
- 50:51[SPEAKER_02]: to be successful so that way, you know, they're able to listen to the coaches, you know, Jeff Haffley and his coaching staff.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_02]: They're not like some old 20-year NFL experience.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_02]: You have to do it this way.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_02]: Like, no, they're going to be able to relate to the players.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_02]: They'll be able to talk them up.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_02]: Think of, you know, Mike McDaniel, you know, that positive reinforcement,
- 51:20[SPEAKER_02]: and defense.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_02]: So it's, it's a combination in the secondary and I do think they go out and draft and maybe potentially sign another guy in the secondary, but I think, you know, with this secondary, it's going to be young, it's going to be an experience, and they're going to be a lot of growing pains.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_02]: Before we finish off this show, I do want to talk about the
- 51:48[SPEAKER_02]: It looks like they're trying to add a bit of talent to the offensive group where they have at least a floor of maybe five, six wins, and then that defense is young, athletic, inexperience at can grow under Jeff Hathley's tenure, whether it be in the next two, three, four, or if he lives up to his five-year contract.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_01]: I like the directions a team is going.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like we are doing exactly what they said that they were going to do.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_01]: They told us that they were not going to go out and spend a bunch of free agency.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you kind of wanted whether, you know, maybe year one they would try to do a little more to fill in.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: fill in some of these gaps and maybe they still will, um, but outside of Malik Willis, right, in that the quarterback position is the one position they told us that you have to get right, you have to take swing.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_01]: So they took that swing.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_01]: But everything else they've done has been, you know, very, very budget-conscious.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_01]: We're not, there is not a single player that has been signed yet by the dolphins that you're going to regret next year.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_01]: Right, like none of these free agents are guy that you're like
- 53:05[SPEAKER_01]: If this doesn't work out, you've got X amount of dead cap.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_01]: This is, we talk about the defensive backs, throw juju, Brents, and there as well.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's traits, they're bringing guys in with traits.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_01]: You talked about, Hassan, Jeff Halfley, and then being teachers, they want to be able to teach and coach these traits.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I think this year is going to be very much of a,
- 53:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, kind of a test of water type deal, right?
- 53:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're going to at least start out with very basic stuff and try to let some of these guys use their talent, right?
- 53:43[SPEAKER_01]: Use their physical talents to succeed.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, when you look at the list of defensive back we've talked to about, you know, if you get two or three of these guys that are long-term roster guys, like that's a massive win in itself.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know,
- 54:02[SPEAKER_01]: still kind of a wait and see right you got to wait and see what they what they do in the draft to really see how comfortable you feel with the direction that they're going but I do feel like so far they have done exactly what they told us that they were going to do and we were all very comfortable with that when they were saying it right and it there is a little bit of discomfort as you're watching some of these other names go off the market but
- 54:30[SPEAKER_01]: If you can zoom out and look at the, you know, the thousand foot view of what they've talked about, and I like where we are today compared to where they're talking about the direction of the team.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I, I can't help but agree.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, as far as what other teams are doing right now, I get.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think that that's particularly relevant to the dolphins because I don't think that next year is about really contending for a soup bowl or anything of that nature.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_03]: I think this year is kind of about a proof of concept.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_03]: Adding in a Malik Willis, I think, is interesting offensively because I think that
- 55:10[SPEAKER_03]: I think adding him, you already know what the blueprint is going to be offensively.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think there's really a lot of guessing as to what that offense is going to really look like.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think that there's kind of a built-in floor with the run game that you're going to have between him and a guy like the Von HM and there's going to be a really fun to watch.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I think that there's
- 55:35[SPEAKER_03]: And I know that there's a lot of concerns with the Justin Fields comparison, what have you.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_03]: I think he's a better pastor of the football than Justin Fields is, I think I can say that after six games.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_03]: But defensively, when you look at this team, and you look at kind of what they've done specifically in the secondary, I'm a big believer
- 56:02[SPEAKER_03]: particularly in the secondary in a position group like that, where all you need is not all you need, but if you get the right guy as a connector at the safety position, let's say a Caleb downs is there at 11.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_03]: The secondary is a spot where a rising tide can kind of raise
- 56:32[SPEAKER_03]: You can make the other guys in that secondary better with him just by the kind of communication that he could bring, you know, to that room or any safety, you know, if you really choose the right guy, and it can kind of captain your secondary.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_03]: You know, but again, I'm just confident because like I said, I think if there's one word, I can.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_03]: some of this up and so far it's been decisive.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_03]: They've told us what they're going to do.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_03]: They followed the rule on it.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_03]: You know, and there seems to be a good amount of conviction behind it.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_03]: So I have no choice but to believe until I see otherwise at this point.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think we're seeing the grand plan actually come in
- 57:22[SPEAKER_02]: Right now, Miami projects to have approximately 60 million in cap space in 2027 after the two dead money drops around 32 million.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_02]: That 2027 draft is expected to be one of the strongest quarterback classes and recent memory this 2026 end full drop has a lot of death pieces on the offensive line, the wide receiver and the corner room which are all big needs for Miami.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_02]: Miami could have a top 10 pick in 2027, 60 million in cap space, a high draft pick, quarterback class that's loaded.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_02]: This could be the destination for Miami next year.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_02]: And Malik Wallace is the bridge depending on how he does.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_02]: But there are still questions this offseason.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_02]: Do
- 58:21[SPEAKER_02]: do they make an offer to Devon Hane because he's in free agent in 2026.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_02]: This offseason is going to be very, very interesting for those two poor guys.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_02]: And whether or not they bring in an additional wide receiver to uplift this wider receiver room and to play alongside Jalen Wattel and if this offensive line can actually hold up
- 58:51[SPEAKER_02]: This is scouting the fins, and as always, you'll keep watching, keep listening with us right here on the Durish Precary podcast network, all support of the five reasons sports network.
