  Speaker 1: stopping for a moment to spend some time with God.

  Speaker 1: God loves to speak into our lives, and this week

  Speaker 1: we're talking about this interesting topic from the Bible of

  Speaker 1: disciple making. What in the world is that? What does
• 0:28
  Speaker 1: that mean? What did Jesus mean when He said to
• 0:31
  Speaker 1: His followers at the end of his time with them?
• 0:36
  Speaker 1: Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them
• 0:41
  Speaker 1: in the name of the Father and the Son and
• 0:43
  Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have
• 0:47
  Speaker 1: commanded you and
• 0:50
  Speaker 1: Behold, as you do that, I am with you always
• 0:53
  Speaker 1: to the very end of the age. Well, Jesus obviously
• 0:57
  Speaker 1: viewed this as such an important part of our lives.

  Speaker 1: It's not just for missionaries who might be taking his
• 1:05
  Speaker 1: message to other parts of the world. This is for
• 1:08
  Speaker 1: you and me as we get involved with Jesus in
• 1:11
  Speaker 1: our lives, disciple making. Well, what does it involve? We
• 1:16
  Speaker 1: saw on Monday that you
• 1:17
  Speaker 1: Start by becoming a disciple, becoming a follower of Jesus,
• 1:23
  Speaker 1: recognising you need God in your life, and turning to
• 1:26
  Speaker 1: Jesus to open up that amazing relationship with God that
• 1:32
  Speaker 1: he brings to us.
• 1:34
  Speaker 1: Secondly, we saw yesterday the second step of disciple making
• 1:39
  Speaker 1: is that when you are a follower of Jesus, you
• 1:43
  Speaker 1: work to develop the practises of a disciple.
• 1:48
  Speaker 1: There were a number of things that Jesus worked to
• 1:51
  Speaker 1: build into the lives of His new followers because he
• 1:55
  Speaker 1: knew they would provide a foundation for their spiritual growth
• 2:01
  Speaker 1: and their ministry throughout their lives. So God wants to
• 2:05
  Speaker 1: do that in your life too, develop in you these
• 2:07
  Speaker 1: practises of prayer.
• 2:10
  Speaker 1: Learning to constantly be talking to God in prayer and
• 2:14
  Speaker 1: listening to Him in prayer, the importance of spending time
• 2:18
  Speaker 1: in His word, the Bible, and hearing from Him, building
• 2:23
  Speaker 1: your worldview around what He says life is all about.
• 2:28
  Speaker 1: Also building intentional relationships with the people around you, both
• 2:32
  Speaker 1: with other followers of Jesus to grow together in your
• 2:36
  Speaker 1: relationship with Him and with other people who are not
• 2:40
  Speaker 1: yet followers of Jesus, to share Jesus with them.
• 2:44
  Speaker 1: The 3rd step of
• 2:48
  Speaker 1: Disciple making is to learn how to help other people
• 2:55
  Speaker 1: find Jesus.
• 2:58
  Speaker 1: To learn how to help other people find Jesus. If
• 3:02
  Speaker 1: a disciple is simply someone who follows Jesus, then a
• 3:08
  Speaker 1: disciple maker is someone who helps other people follow Jesus.
• 3:13
  Speaker 1: We know this is the next step because we see
• 3:15
  Speaker 1: it also in Jesus' relationship with His followers in the
• 3:19
  Speaker 1: New Testament of the Bible.
• 3:22
  Speaker 1: In the book of Matthew in the Bible, it says
• 3:25
  Speaker 1: while walking by the Sea of Galilee, Jesus saw two
• 3:30
  Speaker 1: brothers Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother,
• 3:35
  Speaker 1: casting a net into the sea. Now you may remember
• 3:40
  Speaker 1: that we read on Monday about how these two guys
• 3:44
  Speaker 1: first encountered Jesus.
• 3:46
  Speaker 1: They were hanging around the great preacher John the Baptist,
• 3:50
  Speaker 1: who pointed to Jesus and said, There's the Lamb of God.
• 3:54
  Speaker 1: And they went and spent an entire day with Jesus
• 3:58
  Speaker 1: and walked away from that totally believing Jesus was the
• 4:02
  Speaker 1: Messiah and choosing to follow Him. This is about a
• 4:06
  Speaker 1: year and a half later. Jesus seized them, casting a
• 4:10
  Speaker 1: net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
• 4:13
  Speaker 1: And he said to them, Follow me, and I will
• 4:16
  Speaker 1: make you fishers of men.
• 4:19
  Speaker 1: They became disciples, followers of Jesus for a year and
• 4:24
  Speaker 1: a half now. They've been developing the practises of a disciple,
• 4:28
  Speaker 1: and now Jesus says, I want you to follow me
• 4:31
  Speaker 1: in a new way. Go to the next step, and
• 4:34
  Speaker 1: that is follow me, and I will make you fishers
• 4:37
  Speaker 1: of men. Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.
• 4:43
  Speaker 1: This is Jesus' pattern. As people began to mature as
• 4:49
  Speaker 1: followers of Jesus mature in their relationship with God, He said,
• 4:54
  Speaker 1: I don't want you to just think about what God
• 4:56
  Speaker 1: is going to do for you in your life. I
• 5:00
  Speaker 1: want you to think about how
• 5:01
  Speaker 1: You can pass on to others this relationship with me
• 5:05
  Speaker 1: and with the Father that has begun in your life,
• 5:09
  Speaker 1: and I am going to help you learn how to
• 5:13
  Speaker 1: do that effectively. Follow me, and I will make you
• 5:18
  Speaker 1: fishers of men, so this may be your next step.
• 5:22
  Speaker 1: You may be a follower of Jesus. You've been growing
• 5:25
  Speaker 1: in your relationship with Him, maybe even for many years,
• 5:28
  Speaker 1: but you've never learned how to effectively help other people
• 5:34
  Speaker 1: also find Jesus. I recommend.
• 5:38
  Speaker 1: That you begin this process in your life. There's a
• 5:42
  Speaker 1: great little resource called Life to Life. Get a hold
• 5:45
  Speaker 1: of it with a group of other Jesus followers, and
• 5:49
  Speaker 1: together learn how to introduce other people to Jesus.
• 5:54
