- 0:02Uh Yo, this be but I can't with this guy. Yo, what
- 0:17it do? We live? Baby? What a dude? What a dude?
- 0:23We're back It got live my little Nicks. R. Jay Barrett.
- 0:29I just rained for a game seven on Sunday. That's all I'm hoping for.
- 0:33Okay, I'm with it. I'm with it. I would love to
- 0:36see that. A man whooping our asspe is a beautiful thing. Yeah,
- 0:43been whooping our ass long. It's been good God. What would you say
- 0:48is the missing or piece that needs to be replaced on that team? Because
- 0:53y'all definitely missing something. What do you say it is not? Do you
- 0:57think the Warriors are missing something? I think the Warriors are missing something,
- 1:02yeah, or the Lakers are just better than them right now. The Warriors
- 1:07are missing what they thought Jordan Pool would be okay so before Yeah, but
- 1:12player performances, played performance. So if you have the players pieces wise,
- 1:17I don't think the Warriors are missing it. Yeah, but but they're losing,
- 1:21and you know, I think the Lakers so I think the heat.
- 1:23You think y'all got the pieces? Yeah, I think we got the pieces
- 1:26to win. We know how to win. I just think one we let
- 1:32we lose to ourselves in Miami is just a good ass team. Bro.
- 1:34Miami is still. Jimmy Butler is an amazing player. Bro. He's one
- 1:38of a compare Kyle Lowry's a huster. He hit shots, and he hit
- 1:42shots, and he hit shots when he needs to hit shots. They're just
- 1:47the balling team, man, and if you're if you don't play better with
- 1:49them for forty eight minutes, you're not gonna win that game. I think
- 1:53if Randall played like how he played that first year when nothing mattered, yeah,
- 2:00wouldn't need nobody. But I think he played like that yesterday with and
- 2:04he had his eye swollen, he got his eye poked in, and that's
- 2:06how he played yesterday. That's what I'm saying. He got it. You're
- 2:08right, but you know what, in the locker room, you're stupid.
- 2:13He has to um also know he has it. You know what I'm saying,
- 2:16because like that ain't gonna lie. Bro. That press conference when he
- 2:19was like, yeah, they're just a better team or whatever, It's like,
- 2:23Bro, he didn't have that. He was even with the Jordan fool
- 2:25thing, like how he didn't get you know, he kept us back to
- 2:29the reporters when they was talking to him after that game that he didn't really
- 2:31get no minutes and he didn't really um score a lot of points. I
- 2:36think they took him out the whole fourth quarter and they interviewed him after.
- 2:38He didn't want to talk to nobody, like, bro, you gotta be
- 2:42that all the time. He threw shit to the Knicks. He said that,
- 2:45Oh, I guess they wanted more than That's what I mean. Yeah,
- 2:49they wanted and that's not the case. But it's like, brother,
- 2:52if that's the conversation, you're trying to have what your team have it with
- 2:53the team, but that's not how you do as you say, not as
- 3:00you do. You know what I'm saying. I mean, yeah, you
- 3:04know what I'm talking. He got to set the standard. He has to
- 3:07play good too. It's funny, man. That's why that that ring culture
- 3:12is even funny to me because like I remember, like I remember, and
- 3:15I go back and watch and have seen Charles Barkley play, and he was
- 3:20a dog in every series, like he was gonna get his You wasn't gonna
- 3:23stop him, you know what I'm saying, Like you just had to account
- 3:25for He's gonna get his numbers. Who else are we gonna stop? And
- 3:29he gets mass shape because he don't got a ring. But it's like he's
- 3:32the guy that was the guy, you know what I'm saying. Just because
- 3:36he didn't get a ring doesn't mean that he wasn't toughness for sure, and
- 3:42he was just It's like, yo, real talk ten fifteen years from now,
- 3:45Bro, I don't think any of us would be like looking at Chris
- 3:47Paul like he's not Chris Paul, you know what I mean. It's like
- 3:51you can't forget like what that person was doing, you know what I mean,
- 3:54like whether they got a ring or not. Bro, No, that's
- 3:59for sure it was it was a difference maker. He has a lot of
- 4:01history. It sucks though, like y'all, you would love to see them
- 4:04win one. You know, in every sport there's always the ones who never
- 4:09just won that championship, but you know they were championship worthy. Would you
- 4:13want one of them rings like they're talking about with Patrick Beverley and Russell Westbrook,
- 4:17H Well, we played a war zone, you guys, zero kills
- 4:21and twenty one damage and you haven't played in fifteen minutes and they win the
- 4:25game. But UK right, big facts aw yo Quincy, um bring up
- 4:34that that thing we were talking about yesterday, Man, that that was super
- 4:39interesting and I want to get into it before we forget because it was just
- 4:42like such a crazy like just go ahead, go ahead. Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:46So so basically, um, you know, I've been going through therapists
- 4:50for about a year now, um, and you know, I wasn't finding
- 4:56one that was really doing it for me, like you know what say.
- 4:59I was going just because it's you know, trying to get right, but
- 5:00it wasn't like hitting the way I've been expecting it too. And so I
- 5:04finally found somebody that, like off the first session, I was like,
- 5:08Yo, you know what I'm saying, I think you might be the one.
- 5:10Like you know what I'm saying, just from the question she was asking,
- 5:12the way she was taking information I was giving her, and you know
- 5:15the way that things were going. So basically, long story short, you
- 5:17know, I was talking to Lester yesterday about you know, essentially, you
- 5:21know, one of the things that I've been touching on with this therapist is
- 5:26just my relationships and how I approach relationships, how I perceive relationships and things
- 5:31of that nature. And you know, one of the things that I brought
- 5:35up in the conversation was just how people engage with the music versus how they
- 5:40engage with me in real life, and it's just a weird dynamic. And
- 5:44then you know, basically, you know, long story short, I have
- 5:48this thing about my music that I've always known, and you know, obviously,
- 5:55going through therapy, it's helping me kind of reveal it a little bit
- 5:59deeper. But you know where essentially, you know, like it feels like
- 6:01every song that I make, I'm trying to prove somebody wrong. I'm trying
- 6:05to prove people wrong. Like you can hear it in the music. It's
- 6:09like I'm literally like you know what I'm saying, almost telling you, like,
- 6:14yo, this is me, this is what I'm doing. You can't
- 6:15see it, and you didn't see it, you never saw it, whatever,
- 6:18whatever. But I'm trying to figure out a way to, you know,
- 6:25not only shift the way I think about relationships and about people, but
- 6:30shift the way I approached my music when it comes to that thought, because
- 6:34it's okay, you know, you hear future and whoever you know what I'm
- 6:38saying, make music about like you know, they always hating on me or
- 6:41whatever whatever it may be, but not so in your face. You may
- 6:45catch it, you know what I mean, but it's not so in your
- 6:47face. And I feel like when I'm making my music sometimes it's like in
- 6:50your face, and I want to like kind of transition into or out of
- 6:56that mindset, if that makes sense. And that's about that, Joe,
- 7:02Now, I definitely, I definitely see how you know, your music is
- 7:08a representation representation of you. So what you're putting out is representing how you
- 7:14feel today. And that's why I like you can tell what kind of things
- 7:17artists are going through by the music they put out, and that's unsets.
- 7:20Like people want artists to go through heartbreak because that's when they put out their
- 7:23best music. The same thing that just anything that is an output of view
- 7:30as a representation of yourself. So you're really if people are reading it a
- 7:33certain way and it's not the way you want them to read it, that's
- 7:35when you really got to think about how you're putting your stuff out and the
- 7:39method you're doing, like the way you're communicating, because it's important, it's
- 7:43important people get the right message, and but it's important that you feel like
- 7:47you're satisfying yourself by the message you're trying to get across when you put things
- 7:51out like that. Yeah, And the thing is is that, truthfully,
- 7:54I do satis for myself because for me, music is therapy, you know
- 7:57what I'm saying. It's like, yeah, I go to mental therapy now,
- 8:00but you know, in my life since I started music, bro,
- 8:03music is my outlet for everything that I've gone through. I got songs about
- 8:07just about everything I've gone through in my life, you know what I'm saying.
- 8:11So you know that for me, I don't ever want to get rid
- 8:16of because that's what brought me to music in the first place. But at
- 8:20the same time, it's like, you know, how can I channel that
- 8:24thought and that those you know, those thoughts and those energy or that energy
- 8:28into something else where it's not so personal, where it's more of a relatable
- 8:37thing. Because don't get me wrong, there's people that relate. But if
- 8:39you notice, like the hotter songs or the biggest songs typically are either surface
- 8:48level or if they are deep, exactly, they're not deep because because once
- 8:52you get too deep, you can kind of lose a lot of people because
- 8:56you know, you had me at the surface level, you know what I'm
- 8:58saying, And those are easy as I get skipped on the album by other
- 9:01people who aren't like really true fans of them exactly, and it's like,
- 9:05again, I don't want to get rid of that music, because again,
- 9:07if you're a true fan, you're gonna love that music all day. But
- 9:11you know, I also want to be able to translate it in a way
- 9:13that's not so deep cut. But you know what that's that's J Coole and
- 9:18that's Kendrick, and that's what they've always stuck to exactly, and they've never
- 9:22always put on music that I've wanted to hear. But I still respect to
- 9:28them, and I just know there's certain music that wasn't made for my year
- 9:31from them, and then there's because there's a bunch that is. And the
- 9:35craziest part is that my favorite music, and me as a person, my
- 9:39favorite music from J Coole was when it was nine times out of ten deep
- 9:43cut. You know what I'm saying. Don't get me wrong, I like
- 9:45the new stuff, but like that Friday Night Lights, you know what I'm
- 9:48saying. Hearing those cuts and hearing what he was talking about, then it
- 9:52hit a little different for me, so you have that fan base. Do
- 9:56not get me wrong. I'm not saying, you know what I'm saying loyal.
- 10:00Yeah, yeah, I'm not saying I don't want to, but I
- 10:03want to figure out how to be able to do both. You get what
- 10:05I'm saying, because sometimes it's hard to get away from the deep cut.
- 10:11It's like, how can I channel that deep cut into something a little bit
- 10:13more surface level and a little bit more ear friendly? Yeah, what's your
- 10:20thoughts? Less? It's super interesting here and um, both of y'all talk
- 10:24about it because it's to me, it's like it's the difference between saying I'm
- 10:31having a bad day and saying nights like this, I wish that rain drops
- 10:35will fall, you know what I mean. Like, there's there's a different
- 10:39way of saying those things where like you're saying it's not so in your face,
- 10:43but you're still the feeling is still there, and people could kind of
- 10:48apply it to themselves a little more because you're putting it. You're capturing the
- 10:52feeling, but you're not making it specific exactly what I'm saying. And to
- 10:58me, it's like you mentioned the future and you know, say what you
- 11:03want about future, but if you listen to his music, the dude is
- 11:07an artist, what I'm saying, Like he is really like you could think
- 11:11whatever you want to think, but if you listen to a future album,
- 11:15this dude is not slacking when he's in the studio. This he don't.
- 11:20He takes this serious, you know what I mean. And you know he
- 11:24got like you said, he got them surface kind of songs and everything,
- 11:26but every once in a while he'll throw one in there and like and it's
- 11:30like you said, I think you said, but it's like if you catch
- 11:33it, he's saying some real, real real shit. Like it's like some
- 11:39real like like it'd be some of the like the realist stuff you ever heard,
- 11:43like on a song, you know what I mean, like countless times.
- 11:48And it's because it's not because he's not saying anything different from the point
- 11:52of view of like he's not going through something more special than what this other
- 11:56guy's going through, you know what I mean, He's just finding a way
- 12:00to say it that just it's like poetic and it hits at the same time.
- 12:05Yeah, that's that's that like magic space you want to be in,
- 12:07you know what I mean. You know and you know what took me there
- 12:11for him and just real quick, don't want to get too deep in the
- 12:13Future lyrics, but like when the Hendricks album came out and I heard those
- 12:18songs and I heard like fresh air and fresh Air. Yeah, I be
- 12:22like Janet Jackson, it's all for you, Like for him to be so
- 12:26vulnerable to just spit that bar in the middle of a hard track and an
- 12:30album like that and it sounds so fresh like he would. That's vulnerability right
- 12:35there for you to spit a bar like that, you know what I mean.
- 12:37But it's it just sounds so clean, it sounds like and it sounds
- 12:41so hard while you're doing it. Pause. Bro, Future got so many
- 12:46like not necessarily records, but accolades musically, you know what I'm saying,
- 12:50Like he'd be on these lists that you'd be like Futures on that list.
- 12:54But dog, when you think about it, he's been dropping fire music or
- 13:00as long as he's been out, bro, like he you know, even
- 13:03the stuff that people say of his whack, like to turn off the lights
- 13:05like that, even that stuff, I like, you know what I'm saying.
- 13:09So it's like, Bro, he hasn't missed so so let me ask
- 13:13this, do you know when you put things out there's gonna be people who
- 13:16normally listen to your music that might not enjoy it. Do you ever does
- 13:20that thought ever come across your mind? Not really, mainly because I know
- 13:26that every song that I put out, whether you listen to me or not,
- 13:31you may may or may not like it, you know what I'm saying,
- 13:33Because I'm not in the same lane with every song, you know what
- 13:37I'm saying. So like if you like, for example, if you're on
- 13:39your hippie shit and you're like good Days, I'm not expecting you to like
- 13:43Payback, you know what I'm saying. Like it's there, there are two
- 13:46different vibes, but at the same time, I'm trying to do me on
- 13:52both of them, you know. Yeah, yeah, So I have like
- 13:58I categorize my music and like two categories. It's like one of them is
- 14:03just I like to think of it as if you don't like this song,
- 14:09you just don't like music, you know what I'm saying, Like you may
- 14:13not like the genre whatever, like, but it's like, for example,
- 14:16like it's okay. When I did It's okay, I knew that that was
- 14:20like one of them songs that anybody could like, you know what I mean.
- 14:22You don't gotta listen to a certain type of music to like that song,
- 14:26because it just had that certain kind of sound and the catchiness with the
- 14:28hook, and I knew it was gonna work that way, you know what
- 14:31I mean. But then there's other songs like the Comfortable Song that it's a
- 14:35very like specific vibe, you know what I mean, And that's like people,
- 14:39you gotta like that kind of vibe. And it's something that I was
- 14:43telling you Quincy that like, because I used to wrap two back in the
- 14:45day, and when I made the transition of singing, it really opened my
- 14:48eyes to like why the singing kind of music is falling by the wayside because
- 14:56a lot of people don't listen to it, you know what I mean.
- 14:58Like people don't they can look for it, you know, even R and
- 15:01B artists that they like. People don't even know that they're dropping new music,
- 15:05you know what I'm saying. Like somebody would say they're a Neo fan
- 15:09and they haven't heard a song from him since twenty twelve, you know what
- 15:13I mean. And it's just it's not nothing against neo because obviously he's one
- 15:16of the biggest artists out and he has crazy hits. But that's just how
- 15:22people be, you know what I mean. So it's like kind of like
- 15:24trying to navigate that as an artist and really figuring out that it's like everybody
- 15:30around you is not going to be a fan, you know what I mean,
- 15:31Like just because you're making a certain type of music or you decided to
- 15:35take a certain type of journey in anything, it's not even just music,
- 15:39but in anything. Once you start doing something, you got to realize that
- 15:43that's your journey, like nobody else signed up to do it, you know
- 15:48what I mean. And it's like I always thought about it that way because,
- 15:52like you know, growing up Quincy, there were so many people that
- 15:56like always just expected help for things that you knew they could do themselves,
- 16:00you know what I mean. It's like there's certain people that they won't even
- 16:03start doing something unless they enlist that that secondhand to help them start, you
- 16:10know what I mean. And I just always looked at that and I was
- 16:12like, bro, that's so annoying, you know what I mean, Like,
- 16:15you don't I don't ever want to be in that space where it's like
- 16:19I'm leaning on something to get me to that next step, you know what
- 16:23I mean. And it's like I always carry that into the music too.
- 16:27It's like, if you like it, you like it. If not,
- 16:30That's why I'm doing music the way I'm doing it, because I'm trying to
- 16:33find the fans, you know what i mean. Yeah, once I could
- 16:37see like, yo, this this is working. This is not working.
- 16:40This is you know what I'm saying. Like after I started taking that journey,
- 16:42I kind of already know like, Okay, this is this kind of
- 16:45song or this is that kind of song. There's there's a song that um
- 16:49I put in our chat that um you know, some people like it.
- 16:52I don't like it, you know what I mean? And I can't put
- 16:57of. I can't tell you why, you know what I'm saying. There's
- 17:02no like, it's just that magic that we're talking about. It's like you
- 17:04don't if it don't have it, it don't have it. There's no explanation
- 17:08back and forth. It's back to the drawing board, you know what I
- 17:11mean. And that's something that I was even talking about earlier on Instagram,
- 17:17just like about collaborating with Quincy That's why me and him work well together because
- 17:22we're not attached to certain pieces of what we do more so like we're attached
- 17:29to the finished product, you know what I mean. It's like you hear
- 17:32what has potential in it, you figure out is this something worth exploring,
- 17:37and then you you know, swap out the pieces that don't work because at
- 17:41the end of the day, you're trying to look for that magic, and
- 17:44that magic is not easy no matter who you are, Like even you know,
- 17:47even like these big artists that we're talking about, sometimes they can do
- 17:49one album and then that's it, Like they just can't make anything as good
- 17:53as that thing that they made. But the beauty behind music is that,
- 17:57Like going off of what you're said, is that, you know, a
- 18:02little slight plug the good Morning Love Joint that's dropping next week. It is
- 18:07something that you know, we sat on for about a year, you know,
- 18:11like we had that song just in the vault, and even we were
- 18:15kind of like underestimating like how good it could be until we kind of like
- 18:19laid it down again better quality, you know, because at that time when
- 18:22I recorded that, I had just moved here. You know what I'm saying,
- 18:26Those walls weren't painted. Nothing in here was sound proved. It sounded
- 18:30horrible, you know what I'm saying. So it wasn't even a good reference
- 18:32track to get an idea of what it what it could sound like, you
- 18:36know what I mean. So like that's a whole another process within itself,
- 18:40and and you know some people aren't really willing to go through that process neither.
- 18:45It's like trying to rush like for you know, for example, the
- 18:48song that you're talking about less like you know, even just being able to
- 18:52have the conversation like like yo, this could be done better, this could
- 18:56sound better here. It's like if we can't have that conversation, then how
- 19:00can we really collapse just just because you laid something on it, you know
- 19:03what I'm saying, It doesn't mean that it's it's ready, you know what
- 19:06I mean. Let's talk about it, let's figure it out, let's make
- 19:07it great, not just good like you said. Yep, because even with
- 19:11my own music and my own stuff, I'm listening to it and coming back
- 19:15and saying, m these you know, this little transition here, or these
- 19:19couple of bars here, or man, I could sing this part a little
- 19:22better, like you're trying to make this last and this whole notion of oh
- 19:29I record a song in fifteen minutes and it's a hit. Like it's like,
- 19:32bro, nobody's making hits like that because you know what I mean,
- 19:34Like if you were really making hits like that, they would be hits.
- 19:37You know, Yeah, there's no you know, it's just one of those
- 19:42things where when you make music, like there's people that want to make music
- 19:48because there's like a coolness factor to it, and then there's people that want
- 19:52to make music because they really are passionate about music, and then there's people
- 19:56that fall in between in that area, you know what I mean. And
- 20:00it's kind of hard to navigate that as an artist because it's such a it's
- 20:07the magic like we're talking about, so you can't force it. You can't
- 20:11like negotiate how to make it happen. Like it's like it's got to happen
- 20:15or it doesn't happen, and if it doesn't happen, we can try again
- 20:18and come with that same energy of hey, we're not coming with no egos,
- 20:22we're not attached to none, We just attached to making the dopest song.
- 20:26We need to do that or if that's not an option, then you
- 20:32know, good luck to you. It's interesting to hear that perspective. And
- 20:38that's so like what I would do, what I would have to choose between,
- 20:45is fighting that balance. And that's something that just in the podcast I
- 20:51put that I put out before like I would sometimes I didn't put content out
- 20:55that I wanted to. I put content out that and you people want to
- 20:56listen to And there's a fine line there and there's a islands there and I'm
- 21:00and I'm sure y'all got to think about every time y'all do something, which
- 21:03is it's interesting to hear about that thought process. And it's the same thing
- 21:10too, like like people say that they wouldn't do X, Y and Z
- 21:14sometimes, but it's like it'd be the same people going to a job,
- 21:17you know, taking orders from somebody, Like you know what I'm saying.
- 21:19It's like you're willing to take orders from somebody you know it's not on your
- 21:25level mentally yet agree with exactly, but but you're not gonna, you know,
- 21:30compromise to a certain extent to make your stuff happen, you know what
- 21:34I mean. Like, and you ain't never gonna get nothing one hundred percent.
- 21:37You know what I mean. No facts, it's not it's not just
- 21:41gonna be a you know, the sea parting and you just walk through and
- 21:45then there's an oasis on the other side, Like you don't work like that.
- 21:51Yeah, it's I think it's something that every artist has to battle with.
- 21:56And like there's some shit I've seen Doja Cats said, like her last
- 21:59two albums where money grabs it wasn't even like real music. She even gave
- 22:03a shit about which is crazy because like I'm not gonna flex dog like,
- 22:08uh, you know, Robin got that one Doja Cat vinyl album. I
- 22:12can't remember the name of it. That album crazy soun like she'll play that
- 22:18trunk on a Saturday or Sunday and I'll let that thing ride all the way
- 22:22through skips. Yeah, I thought I thought that was just sound. That's
- 22:26crazy. That's crazy. She's like, I'm gonna go not make no music
- 22:30and y'all can enjoy that fake pop shit y'all hear in the radio. I'm
- 22:33interested now to see to hear her her what she's trying to put out.
- 22:37You know what I'm saying, go ahead, No, I'm saying a lot
- 22:41of artists are doing that now. It's like there, like the Weekend,
- 22:44he said, he's trying to kill the Weekend, and he's like, this
- 22:48might be the last project with him as the Weekend, and that's the end
- 22:51of the weekend, and you know he maybe go forward. He isn't just
- 22:53able tered in hearing that sound. Yeah, he confirmed it. He's like,
- 22:59he's like, the can is gonna die. He's like this this might
- 23:02be it. He's like, but it's definitely something that's going to happen.
- 23:06He's like, he said, I've said everything I could say as the week
- 23:08the Weekend. I love that you brought that up, man, because that's
- 23:11literally a perfect way to kind of cap off exactly what I just said in
- 23:15the beginning. Because it's like, I know for a fact that whether my
- 23:21mentality changes on people or whatever it may be, my approach to music may
- 23:27always for me be that way, not like you know, but just that
- 23:33deep and that intuitive and that conscious you know what I'm saying. Yeah,
- 23:37But the thing that you know, I battle on the flip side of what
- 23:41they battle. They battle that it's like, yo, that pop shit's too
- 23:45much that that you know, I'm not trying to do the weekend shit no
- 23:48more, because I've said all I've said in that way, I am able,
- 23:52you know what I'm saying, Like you're on the flip side of it
- 23:56and I'm on the other side where it's like, yo, I'm Quincy Jamal,
- 23:59this is what you get. But at the same time, how can
- 24:03I be more pop or be more socially accepted to appealing you know what I
- 24:10mean. It's it's very interesting to hear that. I'm glad you brought that
- 24:14up because that's a super dope way to kind of like, you know,
- 24:18put the other end of it on this conversation and to think about how far
- 24:23he had to get in his career to finally be and no pun intended able
- 24:27to do that, you know what I mean. He had to get that
- 24:33established to be like, all right, I think I could cut out the
- 24:36weekend and I still be successful after this point. M Yeah, it's a
- 24:41lot of things an artist. Yeah, it's dope because it's definitely like I
- 24:48said, you're trying to chase magic. It's that thing that I've mentioned a
- 24:52couple of times of like with music, you're like going somewhere, you're transporting
- 24:56somewhere to bring something back, like it's like a vibe when people hear it,
- 25:00it's just undeniable. And when you can do that, it's like you
- 25:04there's no right way to do it. There's no wrong way to do it.
- 25:07It's just like you gotta follow whatever whatever it is inside you, because
- 25:15that's really what makes the music so it is, you know. And it's
- 25:17perfect segue to where I think we can wrap this show up, where we
- 25:19have a few minutes left. The ice Spice sound, Yo, I'm telling
- 25:26you, it's grown. It just keeps brouh. All these other women artists
- 25:30don't get invited to all the ship she's doing, all the mad gallas she
- 25:34has, like she's being flown to Paris. She has sponsorship ads contract,
- 25:38and she's still making music. And then she's not even putting a new album.
- 25:42She's rereleasing the first album with a like it's more addition. That's that's
- 25:48smart, give it, that's smart. And she really got Nikki co signing
- 25:52her as a princess, like it's the blue print. She's like, she's
- 25:56like a female pop smoke to me to be real, like yeah, like
- 26:02crossed over, this pop smoke is the same thing he kind of crossed over
- 26:04into that like other space where he was like, here, here it is,
- 26:08Here's where I want to go. How long before she lets that sound
- 26:12go and she transfers to the appealing in the more popular side she doesn't.
- 26:21That kind of goes to what we were originally talking about with spices, like
- 26:23we gotta see where her sound goes and how it transitions, how she sounds
- 26:29five years, ten years, like, and see what kind of turns it
- 26:32takes. Because you know, like we said about Future, bro, there's
- 26:37only certain people that they just got it and it's just yeah, but just
- 26:41I think Future is given us what he gave from day winning now. So
- 26:44like when I told you when I talked about from the beginning of Cardi B
- 26:47effect, Cardi B on bodat Yellow wasn't the Cardi B who drops tracks today
- 26:52of course. And that's what I feel like, I'm gonna be real,
- 26:56bro. Even when I heard bold at Yellow, Bro, but that Yellow
- 27:00was hard, Bro. I saw you know what I'm saying, Like like
- 27:03I was like, yo, she she rocked the show and everything, but
- 27:08I wasn't. I wasn't sold on her just yet. Yeah, um as
- 27:12a as a superstar you know what I'm saying. But as the sound,
- 27:17as the sound changed, and I was like all right. By the time
- 27:21she did that that track with Adam Levine and that album, I was like,
- 27:23all right, she's on. You know what I'm saying, And I
- 27:26think that's what I'm waiting on for Ice Spice, Like, don't get me
- 27:29wrong, bro, I'm here for it. I love what they're doing with
- 27:33her. She has the image, Bro, she has it. You know
- 27:36what I'm saying, Like, absolutely has it. But I'm just interested to
- 27:40see how the music translates over time. That's it, because and I wanted
- 27:45to keep being the Ice place yes today when she can be and not let
- 27:49that shit go. M yeah, because I added like it's it's kind of
- 27:53like I was saying, like that attitude and who she is is what makes
- 27:56the music. It's not she's not. It works for her because it's not
- 28:02her doing something like it's just like the same thing the way I feel about
- 28:06twenty one Savage, Like he's so dope to me, it's like it just
- 28:10you could tell he ain't faking it. If he is, he's doing a
- 28:12real good job because it just sounds so authentic. Everything he says the way
- 28:18that's not who he is a great point. I think he is a truly
- 28:22genuine artist, and if he's not, he's doing an elevigant job at it
- 28:26exactly. And it's like there's certain people that just know how to tap into
- 28:30who they are but make it appealing. And that's what she's been able to
- 28:33do. And hopefully she can keep advancing that and keep taking it to the
- 28:37next level. Yeah for sure. Yeah, she definitely got a super unique
- 28:41voice. I agreed. A lot of times, you just keep listening just
- 28:45to be like like trying to catch the vibe of the voice, you know
- 28:49what I mean. Like, it's kind of like, bro, And then
- 28:52if they built, they just keep building that team and the best production,
- 28:56the best riders, the best mix, And that's what I feel like.
- 29:00You know, as as long as she can get she can get the right
- 29:03people around her, bro, they can push her far. Yeah, under
- 29:06the right label. I mean, I can't remember what label she's under,
- 29:08But as long as they do what they need to do, they definitely can't
- 29:12push her far um. But they just gotta do what they gotta do.
- 29:18I've sensed it. I seen him like and kind of one more thing I
- 29:22want to say is that we mentioned the chat like when Wayne spit his verses
- 29:26on So Far Gone and for Drake being probably maybe a couple levels down from
- 29:32Ice Spices now. But I think Wayne just seeing that this shit's gonna hit
- 29:37for a long time, like this, dude's gonna I'm not gonna lie though,
- 29:41Bro, I'm not gonna lie Drake. When I first heard Drake Dog,
- 29:47it wasn't very hard to assume that he was gonna beata I'm talking about
- 29:52was so Far Gone like he had was a celebration and home coming. I
- 29:56think that's what No. So Far Gone was like when anybody could see that,
- 30:02like, yeah, I'm talking about come back season. I'm talking about
- 30:04comeback Ya, I'm back season. I knew Wayne until So Far Gone,
- 30:10so he had to do all that before he had Wayne. But that's what
- 30:14I'm saying, Bro, And I'm not going against what you're saying because I
- 30:17I'm here for what you're saying. I still gotta see it, but I'm
- 30:19here for it. But that's what I'm saying is that I didn't need Wayne
- 30:25and Drake's corner to say, like Drake Yo, I like I saw Drake
- 30:30as a he was gonna be big back from I think that song July,
- 30:33which I think he did with Jenei Eco, way before either of them were
- 30:37anybody. Jenei Eco wasn't anybody. He wasn't anybody, and that was a
- 30:41banger, you know what I'm saying. So it's like, I hear what
- 30:45you're saying. Dog, I just like, even with the label, I
- 30:51have to I have to still see it, bro, I gotta still talk
- 30:55about this, yo. I can't wait. I'm not gonna lie because I
- 31:00really want you to be right. I really really have the clips. Yeah,
- 31:07I really want you to be right. It's it's always super interesting to
- 31:15hear an artists like that and think, like, dang, there's so much
- 31:18you could do there. I wonder what they're gonna do, you know,
- 31:22up to them. And if she stayed humble and she she keeps making the
- 31:26right decisions, she can she can get crazy big And I'm gonna be real.
- 31:32If this was twenty eleven, dude, I would have easily said you're
- 31:34right, absolutely, But at twenty twenty three and the way attention spans are
- 31:38now, bro, because anybody can get there, but everybody can last.
- 31:41It's hard, bro, It's so hard to keep people there. It's so
- 31:45hard. Like, let's be real, bro, who who has come out
- 31:49after like twenty seventeen that stayed relevant? You know what I mean? Like
- 31:53a lot of people that we consider like legends are relevant or from way before
- 31:57that. Yeah, yeah, you got a good point. Then. Travis
- 32:04Scott, he was before twenty seventeen. I was in Travis Scott. I
- 32:08think in early, like I think fourteen is when he really loved Yeah.
- 32:12Yeah, yeah, I didn't catch until like eighteen, he was even.
- 32:15I was super late on Travis Scott. Shout out to my boy Matt,
- 32:17he's my boy's little brother, and he thought I was crazy not knowing in
- 32:22Travis Scott. But that was like at the time when I wasn't even really
- 32:25like paying attention to music. I wasn't even really doing music. I was
- 32:30like, yeah, that was like twenty fourteen exactly. I wasn't even it
- 32:32wasn't yep. But yeah, the same thing. I call him late.
- 32:37And I remember hearing um just like that album the Rodeo and hearing the Astro
- 32:43World Joint, like I remember hearing it when it dropped, I was like,
- 32:46oh my gosh, one of those where it was like, oh no,
- 32:50this is different m for me. It was after goose Bumps. I
- 32:54was sold. I think goose Bumps is on days before Rodeo, right or
- 32:59is that on after World? That's what it was. He was like a
- 33:02bart with Kendall Black Kendall on the cover. R Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 33:06that's that stays before Rodeo. Yeah. Travis Scott was one of those
- 33:09that I went backwards, you know what I'm saying and listen to his older
- 33:13stuff, and then I liked a lot of it. He's dope, yeah
- 33:19man. But yeah, man, we're about to drop that Good Morning Love
- 33:22May nineteen. He's getting a lot of good feedback, the little clips and
- 33:25stuff, the teachers. I can't wait for people to see the video.
- 33:28Got a cool little funny story to it, some plastic little clips in it.
- 33:31I'm holding off on the little clips. Yeah yeah, facts, you
- 33:36know I say, the little funny ones. I want to start using them
- 33:37once we drop it. Because this man, Joe just turned you into a
- 33:42jift bro. The the one of you dog, little video of you,
- 33:47Bro. That's it. Oh my god, it's a good video. Johnny
- 33:52did this thing with that woman for sure, Johnny Man, we caught a
- 33:54vibe that video. Man. Yeah. Man. Oh and if you on
- 33:59this episode, then Reminisce has dropped. Its dropping tomorrow, but I think
- 34:02this think gonna be out Tuesday. So yeah, man, go ahead and
- 34:07tap that in. Check that out. You listen to Reminisce, go back,
- 34:09check it out. I am Quincy Jamal. Yeah, make sure y'all
- 34:14tap in anything you got for him. Joe Nah Man, y'all stay,
- 34:19stay, butter m not do not do not. M
