- 0:07Speaker 1: Alright, let's get to the movie threats.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Because, you know, this is what we do for our
- 0:23Speaker 2: other people. The super elite, you know, they get to
- 0:26Speaker 2: listen to the horror club, but For the rest of
- 0:29Speaker 2: the people, this gives me a chance to talk about
- 0:31Speaker 2: other things.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Like, this is one because it's not.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Again, if you want horror, go join the horror club.
- 0:38Speaker 2: But occasionally, I get to talk about other things, and
- 0:41Speaker 2: I wanted to run this past you.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Let me bring up a photo here.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Okay, so I'm in the real world, which I don't
- 0:50Speaker 2: normally go into, but occasionally I'm looking for, you know,
- 0:53Speaker 2: toys and movies and crap.
- 0:55Speaker 3: So I'm around people, which is also weird.
- 0:59Speaker 2: But before I get into the conversation, let me ask you,
- 1:03Speaker 2: because on the show previously, Nora, you've mentioned you're not
- 1:08Speaker 2: really a.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Star Wars person.
- 1:10Speaker 3: So quick pass without killing it. Do you know what
- 1:17Speaker 3: that is?
- 1:20Speaker 5: Not an Ewok.
- 1:21Speaker 3: It doesn't count because you... I know you know.
- 1:24Speaker 5: I'm guessing it has four letters in the name.
- 1:27Speaker 2: It does?
- 1:27Speaker 3: It does. You're doing pretty good.
- 1:31Speaker 5: Give me the first letter. J.
- 1:33Speaker 2: They live on Tatooine.
- 1:41Speaker 4: They sell robots to.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Again, if you haven't seen the movie, none of this
- 1:45Speaker 3: makes any sense.
- 1:46Speaker 4: I know, but I just like.
- 1:47Speaker 5: A Jabba the Hutt.
- 1:49Speaker 3: You're close. They hang out in the vicinity of Jabba.
- 1:52Speaker 6: You're right.
- 1:53Speaker 7: Same syllable count.
- 1:55Speaker 5: Okay. A JoJo.
- 1:59Speaker 2: No, that's your favorite pop singer.
- 2:01Speaker 3: We all know. Don't try to deny it. But, okay, Phillip,
- 2:05Speaker 3: you're dying. Go ahead.
- 2:06Speaker 4: It's a Jawa.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I'm in a store.
- 2:09Speaker 2: And most of the, around the place I'm at a
- 2:11Speaker 2: good portion of the week, there's a whole bunch of
- 2:13Speaker 2: like thrift stores and stuff.
- 2:14Speaker 3: So I'm in one of them. There's not one, not two.
- 2:17Speaker 2: There's three guys between 25 to 30.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Not a one of them knew.
- 2:25Speaker 2: They're looking at one of the, like, 12-inch toys, which is, like,
- 2:28Speaker 2: 6-inch for these guys.
- 2:29Speaker 3: And they're looking at it.
- 2:30Speaker 2: And they're like, you know, I'm not really into Star Wars.
- 2:34Speaker 3: What's his name? Like, not a clue. And I'm like, guys, really?
- 2:40Speaker 3: I was like, I know... There's like a subculture of
- 2:43Speaker 3: people that.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Just do not care and do not want to even
- 2:46Speaker 2: get into it, which I get. But I'm like, just
- 2:49Speaker 2: just pop culture osmosis at this point.
- 2:52Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 2:53Speaker 3: That was.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Especially dudes.
- 2:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Although it's pretty evenly balanced now. If you're on Gen Xers,
- 3:00Speaker 2: it was a wasteland for girls. But when you get
- 3:03Speaker 2: to like millennials and definitely the new generations, I.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Think it's evenly matched of hardcore geeks.
- 3:08Speaker 2: I think the girls are just as bad, if not
- 3:10Speaker 2: sometimes worse, in their subculture things.
- 3:15Speaker 3: But yeah, I don't know. That was just a weird
- 3:17Speaker 3: moment of, really?
- 3:19Speaker 5: I recognize him.
- 3:21Speaker 3: So at least you know.
- 3:22Speaker 5: I just don't know what he's called.
- 3:23Speaker 2: They weren't even close. They were like, I don't even remember.
- 3:28Speaker 2: They were saying other things, and it might have been Jabba.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 3:31Speaker 2: But they were just like. And it's one of those
- 3:35Speaker 2: I had to bite my tongue because I don't want
- 3:37Speaker 2: to be that dude. I kind of missed my window,
- 3:40Speaker 2: or I would have just been like, it's a jaw.
- 3:42Speaker 3: I'm just like, I can't fight it.
- 3:45Speaker 2: But I kind of missed the chance, and it would
- 3:47Speaker 2: have been really awkward once they'd already gotten past that,
- 3:49Speaker 2: and we're talking about something stupid. So I was just like,
- 3:52Speaker 2: you know, I'm just going to shut up. And it's
- 3:55Speaker 2: going to fester until I have to come on here
- 3:56Speaker 2: and talk about it.
- 3:58Speaker 7: Well, I have to get this out really quick, because
- 4:00Speaker 7: this is festering to me. I know they're called droids
- 4:04Speaker 7: and not robots in the Star Wars universe. I.
- 4:08Speaker 4: apologize but.
- 4:09Speaker 5: He's talking to me a plebe.
- 4:10Speaker 7: Yeah i know but i don't want the actually i
- 4:13Speaker 7: do want the fanboys to write go ahead.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I again that's the kind of stuff i let slide
- 4:18Speaker 2: again that's more of a generalized pop culture of like
- 4:21Speaker 2: yeah they're all robots we know that's just a very
- 4:24Speaker 2: specific branding in your own little universe that's fine but
- 4:29Speaker 2: but yeah it reminds me there are times when as
- 4:33Speaker 2: i constantly reference on this show the the normal people
- 4:36Speaker 2: The regular people.
- 4:37Speaker 4: The outdoor kids.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Yeah, well, but grownups too.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Because I still consider myself a 12 year old. So
- 4:43Speaker 2: like when I'm sitting there and this person that I
- 4:46Speaker 2: work with all the time who is, we're jumping ahead
- 4:49Speaker 2: to the holidays, but they're already playing Christmas music.
- 4:52Speaker 3: And I'm like, it's too soon for that.
- 4:56Speaker 2: And they said something about the Charlie Brown Christmas special.
- 4:59Speaker 2: And I'm like, oh, when we get closer at the
- 5:02Speaker 2: appropriate time, when you play that music, I'll be running Vince.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Giraldi on a loop.
- 5:06Speaker 2: And they were shocked and amazed that I knew who
- 5:09Speaker 2: the person was who wrote the music for the peanuts.
- 5:13Speaker 2: And I was like, yeah, he's a genius. I'm like,
- 5:15Speaker 2: why would I not know that? Well, regular people don't
- 5:18Speaker 2: read credits.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Yeah, they don't. Well, I mean, that one I had
- 5:21Speaker 3: to seek out.
- 5:22Speaker 2: I'm not like a big jazz geek, but like, That
- 5:25Speaker 2: music is so amazing. Like so specifically, I don't know,
- 5:31Speaker 2: not even just tailored to that thing because he's done
- 5:33Speaker 2: a lot of other stuff.
- 5:34Speaker 3: And if you listen to his other stuff, it's equally
- 5:36Speaker 3: as amazing. So, but yeah, just some people just don't
- 5:40Speaker 3: pay attention to pop culture in general.
- 5:44Speaker 2: But I'm assuming if you're the kind of dork who's
- 5:45Speaker 2: listening to this right now, you do pay attention to
- 5:48Speaker 2: pop culture. So you'll want to not only listen to
- 5:51Speaker 2: these little promos, but go join the horror club.
- 5:53Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 5:54Speaker 3: So now we can get to the movie threat, which
- 5:57Speaker 3: is what I call these every time.
- 5:58Speaker 2: So this was, I was trying to find, we're heading,
- 6:01Speaker 2: as previously mentioned, towards the holidays.
- 6:05Speaker 3: We're not at the point where you play Christmas music yet,
- 6:07Speaker 3: but we're at a holiday just before that.
- 6:10Speaker 2: So I thought this was the appropriate one. I recently
- 6:13Speaker 2: ran across a copy of this.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Let me give you the artwork. Thought that was fitting
- 6:18Speaker 3: for the holiday that you only eat. I mean, that was.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Basically, the only thing built around Thanksgiving is food. So
- 6:26Speaker 2: carnivore is what we're looking at here. Let me bring
- 6:30Speaker 2: up the description I got off the back.
- 6:32Speaker 6: Of this thing.
- 6:34Speaker 4: So this is a Thanksgiving-themed movie?
- 6:36Speaker 3: No, no.
- 6:37Speaker 6: Okay.
- 6:38Speaker 3: But eating is. Sure, sure, sure, sure. That's why it's
- 6:42Speaker 3: the best tie-in we can come up with. Right off
- 6:46Speaker 3: the bat. From afar, the old Romero house.
- 6:50Speaker 5: Uh.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Pause for grattle. Looks like a decrepit old mansion, reputedly haunted.
- 6:57Speaker 2: But what the locals don't know is that behind the
- 7:00Speaker 2: facade of the ancient building, the U.S. government has built
- 7:03Speaker 2: a state-of-the-art high-tech field lab, which houses one of the
- 7:06Speaker 2: world's most gruesome experiments, a horrifyingly genetically engineered menacing carnivore beast.
- 7:13Speaker 5: Huh.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Those always go well.
- 7:16Speaker 3: So, there's more. There's a whole nother verse. There's a
- 7:20Speaker 3: whole nother.
- 7:21Speaker 2: stanza there's a whole nother i i don't want to
- 7:24Speaker 2: keep reading but this is the kind of stuff we'll
- 7:26Speaker 2: be forced to watch unless you come up with a
- 7:29Speaker 2: better option for us because i'm sure you can think
- 7:32Speaker 2: of a movie that's much better than carnivore but otherwise
- 7:36Speaker 2: you know if you don't join the horror club and
- 7:38Speaker 2: you don't put it on our list then we're gonna have.
- 7:40Speaker 4: To watch carnivore so.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Nobody wants that. Nobody wants that.
- 7:46Speaker 4: I mean, I kind of want to see.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Look what you're doing.
- 7:51Speaker 5: I like the idea that the government is like, let's
- 7:54Speaker 5: build this lab under a spooky looking haunted house as
- 7:58Speaker 5: opposed to like in an office building, but.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Then only.
- 8:02Speaker 5: Get creative again.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Annoying kids that want to solve mysteries will get sucked
- 8:07Speaker 2: into it.
- 8:07Speaker 5: I know, you're just like asking to be investigated by
- 8:10Speaker 5: a group of teens.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Teens wearing like GoPros on their head.
- 8:15Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Live streaming as they run around a spooky house with
- 8:18Speaker 2: a fake thing that lights up and somebody sold them for.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Way too much money.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Dude, those are totally real.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Told them that they can see ghosts with it and
- 8:25Speaker 2: find ghosts or sense that it's cold in.
- 8:27Speaker 3: This room or whatever the hell happens.
- 8:28Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 8:29Speaker 5: Orbs.
- 8:29Speaker 3: I can't afford real ghost hunting gear.
- 8:31Speaker 5: There's orbs everywhere.
- 8:35Speaker 3: You might just be on something right.
- 8:38Speaker 7: You know for as long as we've known each other
- 8:40Speaker 7: i am shocked now that you you point that out
- 8:43Speaker 7: that i've never once come over to your house and
- 8:45Speaker 7: been like look at this cool ghost catching stuff i bought.
- 8:49Speaker 2: It really is expensive i know but at least one
- 8:52Speaker 2: of the conventions maybe the one we just went to
- 8:54Speaker 2: um the People are there selling it. It's the only
- 8:59Speaker 2: one that's not just horror movies, but horror movies and
- 9:02Speaker 2: paranormal as a real thing conventions.
- 9:05Speaker 3: So there are half of the tables are people that
- 9:08Speaker 3: are totally selling to you. I don't know if they
- 9:10Speaker 3: believe it. I don't know if I believe it.
- 9:12Speaker 5: Who knows?
- 9:12Speaker 2: But there are sales pitches that, yes, it's a real
- 9:16Speaker 2: thing and I've seen it. And here's a video that
- 9:17Speaker 2: I made of me walking around the house with a GoPro.
- 9:20Speaker 4: On my head.
- 9:21Speaker 2: So they also, a few of them have equipment there
- 9:24Speaker 2: that they are selling and it ain't cheap.
- 9:28Speaker 3: If you're thinking about getting into ghost hunting, get a backer.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Some sponsors, if you will. Hadn't worked out for me,
- 9:34Speaker 3: but maybe you can make that happen.
- 9:36Speaker 2: I don't know. So anyway, that's the kind of shenanigans
- 9:41Speaker 2: we get into on this show. Or we occasionally say
- 9:44Speaker 2: things like this. It's not quite as elaborate as the other,
- 9:48Speaker 2: you know, holidays. Halloween's the coolest. Christmas gets all the attention.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Thanksgiving's never quite as big a deal, but I figured
- 9:56Speaker 2: we could at least hunt a human being, and that
- 9:58Speaker 2: would be fun. So there's our adventure for the holidays.
- 10:01Speaker 5: Happy memories.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:04Speaker 5: Precious moments.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Before we even get to the kids in the car,
- 10:09Speaker 2: we've got our condom salesman.
- 10:11Speaker 6: Yes.
- 10:13Speaker 5: This entire movie is just so horny. It's like, oh,
- 10:16Speaker 5: my God. Like, every time two people are together, whether
- 10:19Speaker 5: they know each other or not, for more than ten seconds,
- 10:22Speaker 5: it's like, let's have sex. I'm like, guys. You just
- 10:26Speaker 5: do it in front of them, I guess.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Sure.
- 10:28Speaker 4: It was the 70s.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Things were different. I guess. Yep.
- 10:34Speaker 5: 70s, but it looked like the 80s.
- 10:35Speaker 7: Well.
- 10:40Speaker 2: By the end, it really becomes almost more of a
- 10:42Speaker 2: silent film.
- 10:44Speaker 3: In so many ways.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Not only is there a big stretch where there's not
- 10:48Speaker 2: really a lot of dialogue, but also the makeup on
- 10:51Speaker 2: these actors is very.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Old school theatrical.
- 10:55Speaker 2: The way that they're shooting it is almost like those
- 10:59Speaker 2: early silent films. The way that it's edited and there
- 11:01Speaker 2: are scenes that are sped up really weird.
- 11:05Speaker 3: It all feels really like those early silent films. So
- 11:08Speaker 3: I was like.
- 11:11Speaker 2: So this is better than shots of room temperature gravy?
- 11:13Speaker 3: Yes. There you go.
- 11:15Speaker 5: You redeemed yourself.
- 11:17Speaker 2: I just remember that because we were recording an episode
- 11:20Speaker 2: and these weird people walked through and you were like, hey,
- 11:22Speaker 2: just recording a podcast.
- 11:24Speaker 3: And like everyone else in the world, they went, oh, God,
- 11:27Speaker 3: and kept walking. They didn't go, oh, really? What's it about? No,
- 11:30Speaker 3: they went, oh, God, another idiot with a podcast. And
- 11:33Speaker 3: they kept on going. And I'm like, nah, I get it.
- 11:35Speaker 6: I understand.
- 11:38Speaker 3: You too will feel the cutting edge of terror in.
- 11:42Speaker 5: So it's very smart and has that humor, but also crazy,
- 11:48Speaker 5: gory moments.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Nice.
- 11:50Speaker 5: And I didn't sleep after I watched it. I had
- 11:53Speaker 5: a lot of trouble sleeping. And not because it freaked
- 11:55Speaker 5: me out too much, but just because there was so
- 11:57Speaker 5: much going on that I kept thinking about it.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:02Speaker 5: It was weird as hell, but I loved it. Wow.
- 12:04Speaker 4: I mean, I have seen overacting before.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Jesus Christ.
- 12:07Speaker 5: So weird. Yeah, you're like, I promise it wasn't me.
- 12:11Speaker 5: It sounds crazy. It was the demon, Your Honor.
- 12:14Speaker 4: I didn't do it.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Do I look like the kind of person who could
- 12:17Speaker 3: make a body incinerate?
- 12:19Speaker 5: No, it was the demon.
- 12:22Speaker 3: I mean, any news story you hear that you're like, what?
- 12:26Speaker 3: It happened in Florida. You're just like, that's in pot. Oh, Florida.
- 12:30Speaker 4: Okay. I guess.
- 12:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Gator all coped up, went into a mall and killed people? Yep,
- 12:36Speaker 3: that sounds like Florida.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:39Speaker 2: And I guess was damned and determined to make sure
- 12:41Speaker 2: we're making this movie even if I gotta sit there
- 12:43Speaker 2: and pretend to be a doctor. Was I the only
- 12:47Speaker 2: one that, like, as this happened, he was like, damn it,
- 12:50Speaker 2: you made.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Me spill my beer, boy.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I mean, he did seem like he'd be a little
- 12:54Speaker 2: more upset about the beer than his hand.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Than a hand, yeah.
- 12:57Speaker 3: I need my old style. Pick that up for me.
- 13:01Speaker 5: Everyone in this movie is the horniest person in the
- 13:04Speaker 5: world and you stopped mid make out to apply some
- 13:07Speaker 5: fun spooky makeup to scare your.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Friends let's hold off you just put your pants back
- 13:13Speaker 2: on honey we're gonna spend about 45 minutes putting this
- 13:16Speaker 2: on your face let's let it dry and then lay
- 13:19Speaker 2: on the bed for a while but I'm not gonna
- 13:20Speaker 2: jump you yet yet then we'll get them to come
- 13:24Speaker 2: in here and we'll scare them for 12 seconds and
- 13:27Speaker 2: then that was worth it totally worth.
- 13:29Speaker 4: It Oh, and the doctor being cut in half was amazing.
- 13:33Speaker 5: That was hilarious.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Especially when he comes and puts her back together. Like
- 13:38Speaker 4: he expects that's going to.
- 13:40Speaker 5: Did.
- 13:41Speaker 7: He just.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Is this a tribute to this ridiculous movie we just watched?
- 13:46Speaker 5: Yes.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Because I'm like, it's kind of the same scenario.
- 13:50Speaker 5: I choose to believe yes.
- 13:51Speaker 3: For sad reasons on both counts. I mean, I was like,
- 13:54Speaker 3: it's sort of the same dynamic too.
- 13:56Speaker 7: So, I guess.
- 14:01Speaker 4: If I'm being honest, I've never been to Florida and
- 14:02Speaker 4: not watched a man die.
- 14:07Speaker 5: Also on the Todd and Terry theme, I guess post-Late
- 14:11Speaker 5: Night Tennis, Todd shows up and one of the other
- 14:14Speaker 5: guys is like, who are you? And it's like, the
- 14:16Speaker 5: guy who looks identical to Terry?
- 14:18Speaker 3: What do you mean, who are you?
- 14:20Speaker 5: Have you been paying attention?
- 14:21Speaker 2: I remember maybe that same version, because one of them's like,
- 14:25Speaker 2: Or maybe it's our final girls.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Like, oh, the one who escaped from the hospital.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Right.
- 14:28Speaker 3: You think? Because he looks just like the other dude
- 14:31Speaker 3: that you're in love with, by the way.
- 14:33Speaker 5: Right.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Wouldn't you recognize? Oh, you're probably his identical twin brother.
- 14:38Speaker 5: You're the guy everyone's been looking for all night.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Come on.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Yeah, those again were some moments that you're just, what
- 14:46Speaker 2: the hell is going on in this movie?
- 14:47Speaker 1: Who are you?
- 14:48Speaker 2: Who are you?
- 14:49Speaker 5: Think for two seconds. Come on.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Take a wild guess.
- 14:55Speaker 6: Yep.
- 14:56Speaker 4: What a great movie.
- 14:59Speaker 2: I'll say that's the thing that stuck with me. A
- 15:01Speaker 2: day or two later, much like yours, I'm still thinking
- 15:05Speaker 2: about it.
- 15:05Speaker 3: And that's the part. It'll stick with you for a while.
- 15:07Speaker 3: This general ennui that comes with this movie. And I'm
- 15:10Speaker 3: just like.
- 15:12Speaker 6: God, it's just like, not the horror parts, not the
- 15:17Speaker 6: weird characters, but just the emptiness of her existence that
- 15:21Speaker 6: I'm just like, yeah, I get it.
- 15:23Speaker 2: A day or two later, I'm still like, yep, yep,
- 15:27Speaker 2: that part's sticking with me, so. Nobody cares about me,
- 15:31Speaker 2: but if you're also thankful that these two show up
- 15:33Speaker 2: every time, write in and let us know, because I'm
- 15:35Speaker 2: thankful that they're here. So if you also are, which
- 15:39Speaker 2: a handful of times, that does happen. We've gotten feedback
