  Bulls wise. But the Billy Donovan thing,

  Cap, I like Malone getting the North Carolina job I did.

  I love the fact his connection to the Joker and his agent and

  with all the EUR coming as we saw the difference that it made

  in Underwood's Illinois group. But Billy Donovan, do you think

  had North Carolina wanted him, was willing to wait till the end

  of the season? Do you think he'd be in Chapel

  Hill? They did want him.

  He was absolutely their choice over Michael Malone and he did

  not want the job, period. He wants to know part of college

  basketball. A lot of guys that I'm friendly

  They will give you, they think they can win the title next year

  Billy Donovan sticking around to the Bulls hasn't been a ton of

  success. They're mired in that just under

  It's not like he needs the job to pay his mortgage and if he

  know, the Orlando job opens since his family lives in

  Gainesville, FL. Maybe that's a move he wants to

  make. He likes it here.

  He likes it in the NBA. He had zero interest in going to

  college and he had the biggest job courting him in North

  Carolina. And he said, no, I'm not

  interested. So I think Billy wants to come

  back. But, you know, here's my take on

  this. I love Billy, you know that I
• 4:34
  like him very much. But if you're going to kick him
• 4:38
  upstairs and make him the president and he's going to run

  everything, then they should have said that yesterday.

  If you're going to go out and try and hire the best executive

  you can find, let's call him Bob Myers.

  And Bob Myers says, well, I love Billy, he's a great guy, but I

  want my own coach. I thought, if I come back in and

  I'm hiring Trent Condon as my coach, guess what?

  You're. Screwed.

  You're going to hire. But yeah, you probably get your

  head kicked. But if you, if you're hiring,

  we'll call him Bob Myers, you have to let him run the team how

  he sees fit or why should he take the job.

  isn't in in his future, does TV make sense to you for him, for

  Donovan? No, no, absolutely not.

  No, he wants to coach. He doesn't want to be an

  And so my thought is, OK, Billy comes back as a saying who the

  new basketball boss is. And it's understood whoever that

  guy is, he's working with Billy. There could be worse things then

  they should have said that yesterday.

  That's my problem with how Michael handled it.

  If you don't think that, you know, you can work with Billy

  Donovan, then you're not the right fit for us.

  That's not how it should be done.

  You should hire the best executive regardless of cost.

  Your franchise is worth $7 billion, six billion.

  So the 10 or 12 or 15,000,000 you're going to spend on the

  brightest mind you can get, you should go find basketball field

  and go guess what? Walk in here.

  He's a huge name. He's not coming here.

  I said can they turn this quick? He said, yeah, I've actually

  watched a bunch of their games on tape.

  He said you can absolutely turn that thing in two years, not to

  win a title, but to be a contender in the playoffs

  because you're in the East. It's nowhere near as difficult

  as the West. You have the most cap space this

  summer. You sign guys to shorter deal,

  like one year deals, and then in a year when the class is better,

  those guys are gone. If you love them, resign them,

  and if you don't love them, move on.

  But he said you have to be willing to blow up the roster

  right now with anybody that doesn't makes sense and

  understand next year could be a bad year.

  But if it is, you have a really good draft pick, You got your

  pick this year, you have 65 million in cap space.

  If you do things right, yeah, two years, you should be

  contending, at least go the playoffs.

  Get back to that level and then build from there and maybe a

  ping pong ball will go their way.

  Coming up here with the draft lottery, what we're talking

  winter sports cap. It is now 5 consecutive years

  without the playoffs for the Blackhawks.

  They have won one playoff series in total over the last decade

  plus. Now since there's Stanley Cup

  win back in 2015, they're third. In five years.

  understood what a rebuild this was.

  And for Kyle Davidson, who I like, I think he's a good

  executive. I think he's brought a lot of

  good young talent to this franchise.

  But I would also tell him as his boss, OK, you've had some time

  now here we've got good players, Connor Bedard, Frank Nazer, all

  these guys. You better make the.
