- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes five sixty seven through five sixty nine.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Stop Noah, Desperate Elephant Gatling to the Future, The Path
- 0:21Speaker 1: to the Sun, and The Secret revealed the truth about
- 0:25Speaker 1: the ancient Weapon. In these episodes, we find out that
- 0:31Speaker 1: the weapon is the Giant Mermaid Princess, which I just
- 0:38Speaker 1: I just feel a little bummed about. I feel like
- 0:44Speaker 1: for so many reasons. Welcome to spoil Me.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Of.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you
- 1:09Speaker 1: very much to Florian for commissioning this episode, and Florian
- 1:13Speaker 1: is here in the chat. Thank you for joining me. Sir. Yeah,
- 1:18Speaker 1: this reveal is I feel bad for the princess because
- 1:24Speaker 1: I don't feel like anybody likes to hear that they
- 1:27Speaker 1: have like a purpose that makes them almost sound like
- 1:30Speaker 1: an inanimate object. I just feel like that's probably kind
- 1:35Speaker 1: of dehumanizing feeling not that she's human. Also, the princess is,
- 1:45Speaker 1: like I really find her very annoying. That's like one
- 1:51Speaker 1: of my main problems with this is that it feels like,
- 1:54Speaker 1: if this is true, then we're gonna have to spend
- 1:57Speaker 1: more time with her than we already have, and I
- 2:01Speaker 1: find her like squeaky voice and her constant crying so grating,
- 2:08Speaker 1: and I have just you know, dealt with it in
- 2:11Speaker 1: terms of the arc itself, but now she's got a
- 2:16Speaker 1: role outside of that, and I'm just sort of like, oh,
- 2:19Speaker 1: I really thought we were going to be done with
- 2:21Speaker 1: this pretty soon. That's too bad. Florian says, I love it.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I never saw this coming. I always thought of them
- 2:29Speaker 1: like bombs or guns. Yes, I will say that that
- 2:32Speaker 1: it's a fun surprise that it's like a living being
- 2:35Speaker 1: and not, you know, just like some sort of nuke
- 2:39Speaker 1: hidden somewhere. So in that respect, it is much more
- 2:46Speaker 1: interesting than what I was thinking. It's just like if
- 2:51Speaker 1: her father, for example, had been the weapon, I would
- 2:54Speaker 1: have enjoyed that more because I really liked Neptune and
- 2:57Speaker 1: he's such a weird little guy, you know, even though
- 3:00Speaker 1: he's a very large man. So it's just a pure
- 3:05Speaker 1: personality thing. I think that's sort of like Pitfall. Like
- 3:11Speaker 1: in general with this show is a lot of the
- 3:15Speaker 1: women characters are sort of iffy sometimes. But okay, let's
- 3:21Speaker 1: start off with five point sixty seven, which is the
- 3:24Speaker 1: one where Lufy very nearly kills himself by doing elephant
- 3:28Speaker 1: gatling on the Noah in order to break it apart.
- 3:33Speaker 1: He is quite powerful and he goes at it really hard,
- 3:40Speaker 1: but that ship is absolutely humongous and it's like almost
- 3:48Speaker 1: touched down and he has only destroyed about half of it.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And the whole scene here of him get apart. He
- 4:01Speaker 1: is starting to like bleed, and it's sort of one
- 4:04Speaker 1: of those things where the blood you're not really even
- 4:06Speaker 1: sure like where it's coming from. It's uh, reminded me
- 4:11Speaker 1: a little bit of that part. Actually, now that I
- 4:14Speaker 1: say this, there's another part in the other episode, which
- 4:16Speaker 1: I think you'll know what I'm talking about, that reminded
- 4:18Speaker 1: me of Fifth Element and Gary Oldman's character in Fifth
- 4:21Speaker 1: Element when he is talking to somebody who is like
- 4:24Speaker 1: evil and they get angry at him, and he starts
- 4:27Speaker 1: to shudder and then blood just begins to like drip
- 4:30Speaker 1: out of his hairline, and it's not clear what part
- 4:34Speaker 1: of him is bleeding, like it's did it open a
- 4:38Speaker 1: hole in his head? Is it like seeping through his pores?
- 4:42Speaker 1: Who knows? But I again I thought maybe Lufy was
- 4:50Speaker 1: going to wind up like trying to take one of
- 4:52Speaker 1: those pills in order to get this done. I can't
- 4:55Speaker 1: help but laugh at the way this is all set up, though,
- 4:58Speaker 1: because the episode begins with everybody looking around and being
- 5:03Speaker 1: very impressed with the straw hats and how they've taken
- 5:05Speaker 1: out this entire like sub section of Horty's crew, and
- 5:11Speaker 1: we get the camera going from one to the other
- 5:14Speaker 1: and seeing all of them. They're all like vaguely sort
- 5:17Speaker 1: of steaming on the ground, which I find kind of fun.
- 5:22Speaker 1: And you know, Sanji is just flying down from the
- 5:27Speaker 1: sky because his ability to fly has made it so
- 5:31Speaker 1: that he is like in mid air when the fight ends,
- 5:36Speaker 1: and he's heading down ahead of the giant monk who
- 5:43Speaker 1: is coming in for a landing head first, unconscious, and
- 5:48Speaker 1: everybody has to get the fuck out of the way
- 5:50Speaker 1: because he could easily like crush and kill a crowd
- 5:54Speaker 1: of people. Zorro tells Sanchi, you could have dropped him
- 6:01Speaker 1: on less people, dumbass guys. There's a couple moments in
- 6:06Speaker 1: these in these three episodes with Zoro just like you know,
- 6:11Speaker 1: telling people to fuck off basically, and it is genuinely
- 6:16Speaker 1: really funny. So everybody is standing around being impressed, like
- 6:21Speaker 1: I said, and they are marveling at the fact that
- 6:26Speaker 1: these guys seemed impossible to be and how if somebody
- 6:30Speaker 1: says to the straw Hats they were basically a joke, which, Yeah,
- 6:35Speaker 1: this does not feel like it cost them very much
- 6:37Speaker 1: to defeat these guys. It seemed like it was quite easy.
- 6:42Speaker 1: And then there's this devastating line where so Frankie is
- 6:51Speaker 1: saying to Chopper to please like shrink down again because
- 6:57Speaker 1: he is upstaging his giant robot. And when us Up
- 7:01Speaker 1: says the beam was so cool, Robin says, are you serious?
- 7:06Speaker 1: That robot was utterly useless? And honestly, when I really
- 7:13Speaker 1: stepped back and thought about it, I was like, Yeah,
- 7:15Speaker 1: he didn't. He didn't really do anything with that, did he.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I forgot the line from the previous episode grouping that
- 7:24Speaker 1: I wanted to mention from her too, because like you
- 7:26Speaker 1: guys have often said, how Robin has this dry sense
- 7:29Speaker 1: of humor that doesn't really seem to translate very well,
- 7:32Speaker 1: but that like in the sub she has much more
- 7:37Speaker 1: personality than she seems to in the dub. And I
- 7:40Speaker 1: think I kind of got a sense of what you meant,
- 7:42Speaker 1: because in the previous episodes there's like a moment when
- 7:46Speaker 1: they're all looking around thinking, oh God, we're all gonna die,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and she's like thinking to herself, like I can't remember
- 7:55Speaker 1: the exact line, but she says something like I wonder
- 7:59Speaker 1: how like in our last moments, how we're all going
- 8:03Speaker 1: to feel about death? And it's just this very weird,
- 8:08Speaker 1: like almost dispassionate sort of question, as if she's not
- 8:13Speaker 1: also in the mix about to die. And I laughed
- 8:17Speaker 1: out loud at that part, and I was like, Okay,
- 8:19Speaker 1: I think that's kind of the vibe that people are
- 8:21Speaker 1: talking about from her. So it's a shame that doesn't
- 8:24Speaker 1: translate better because it is very funny. So, oh god,
- 8:31Speaker 1: And in the you guys, everybody is talking about how
- 8:34Speaker 1: like well they fought and everything, and then Brooke turns
- 8:39Speaker 1: around and says Nami's name, like he's glad she's okay,
- 8:43Speaker 1: or he's gonna congratulate her on being a good fighter,
- 8:47Speaker 1: and he says, you should really wear a mini skirt.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I'm not even gonna say anything, you know what I
- 8:59Speaker 1: think of this already, it's just a bummer. So meanwhile,
- 9:05Speaker 1: Jimbay is over here congratulating all of them and spoilers
- 9:11Speaker 1: later on Loofy invites Jimbay to the crew. I the
- 9:20Speaker 1: thing is, so far Jimbay has had kind of a
- 9:25Speaker 1: boring personality. There's been a couple times where he said
- 9:28Speaker 1: things that were funny or reacted in a way that
- 9:32Speaker 1: was like amusing, but it's it doesn't really come out
- 9:37Speaker 1: that often, and so he's really much more of a
- 9:42Speaker 1: straight man type, and I'm not sure that we need
- 9:46Speaker 1: another serious straight man type in the crew we kind
- 9:51Speaker 1: of had. We've gotten Ami for that a little bit.
- 9:54Speaker 1: We've got Robin for that. We have got I would
- 9:58Speaker 1: even say.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Zoro for that, and.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I just it's I'm not like particularly stoked, And I
- 10:09Speaker 1: also confess that another woman who's actually like a real
- 10:14Speaker 1: fighter fighter would be cool instead of Robin and Nami,
- 10:17Speaker 1: who I feel like get sidelined during fights all the time.
- 10:21Speaker 1: It's not like they're useless. They do things, but it's
- 10:23Speaker 1: not they're not front and center the way that the
- 10:26Speaker 1: guys are. You know, we just had like these last
- 10:28Speaker 1: three episodes where we didn't even really see the two
- 10:31Speaker 1: of them, and these dudes were the ones that were
- 10:33Speaker 1: facing off with the like main lieutenants. I don't know
- 10:39Speaker 1: what it's to call them of Hordy, while Robin and
- 10:43Speaker 1: Nami really got relegated to dealing with like the riff
- 10:46Speaker 1: raff pirates, you know, the rest of them that aren't
- 10:51Speaker 1: top tier seconds in command. So I confess I'm a
- 10:59Speaker 1: little disappointed because I didn't think we were going to
- 11:03Speaker 1: be adding to the crew any further. First of all,
- 11:05Speaker 1: so if I had known that, I think maybe my
- 11:08Speaker 1: disappointment would be more severe. I would be hoping for
- 11:12Speaker 1: something different. And Jimbay is like, he's an interesting guy
- 11:17Speaker 1: with a history and cool abilities and all of this,
- 11:21Speaker 1: but just in terms of like a character that I
- 11:23Speaker 1: really want to spend more time around, he doesn't really
- 11:26Speaker 1: fit the bill for me. So I maybe proved wrong
- 11:29Speaker 1: and he may wind up being a total delight. But
- 11:31Speaker 1: it's not like he's going to be joining up immediately anyway, because,
- 11:34Speaker 1: as he tells Lufy later, he has some obligations that
- 11:38Speaker 1: he feels he has to fulfill before he can get
- 11:40Speaker 1: on board with them literally low So when I was saying, like,
- 11:47Speaker 1: I keep saying this and then sort of getting sidetracked,
- 11:49Speaker 1: but I was saying, I find this really funny, and
- 11:51Speaker 1: then I keep, you know, talking about the crew. But
- 11:56Speaker 1: there is that crew of Nights, I guess they would
- 12:01Speaker 1: be called that are in the ship that made the
- 12:03Speaker 1: bubble for the Noah, and they're making announcements on that
- 12:09Speaker 1: loud speaker to all of the townsfolk, and he is saying,
- 12:12Speaker 1: like it's all finished. Loofy beat Hordy, and you know,
- 12:17Speaker 1: it seems like it's done. But this dude is part
- 12:22Speaker 1: of the crew that put the bubble on the Noah.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Got very excited that it succeeded, and yet they're not
- 12:27Speaker 1: saying anything about the fact that the Noah is still
- 12:31Speaker 1: continuing to sink toward the island. And everybody gets very
- 12:36Speaker 1: distracted by the victory over Hordy, so that they don't
- 12:43Speaker 1: notice this enormous ship that is still barreling toward them.
- 12:48Speaker 1: And I couldn't. It's very funny, you guys, because everybody
- 12:52Speaker 1: is cheering and happy and delighted, and then finally somebody's like,
- 12:56Speaker 1: but look, and the ship is so enormous. There is
- 13:00Speaker 1: no way that you just forget it's there. You know,
- 13:03Speaker 1: once the camera pans up, it's beyond the reach of
- 13:06Speaker 1: the edges of the frame, and it's coming at them
- 13:10Speaker 1: quite quickly. And I kind of wanted to be like,
- 13:13Speaker 1: why hasn't anybody who was on the loudspeaker said anything
- 13:18Speaker 1: about that. They're just like, oh, it's great news, looviy
- 13:22Speaker 1: be Hordy, don't worry about that other thing. You put
- 13:26Speaker 1: the bubble around it. But it did not work, guys.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I'm delighted it slowed it down, YadA YadA, but it
- 13:34Speaker 1: is still very much going to destroy the entire island,
- 13:37Speaker 1: and you're just acting like it's not there, and everybody
- 13:40Speaker 1: on the ground has to be like, wait a second,
- 13:43Speaker 1: so they all, like everybody understandably is starting to flee
- 13:50Speaker 1: in different directions. Some of the guys who were with
- 13:54Speaker 1: Hordy are also trying to get the fuck out of
- 13:56Speaker 1: here because they're worried about getting scooped up my Neptune.
- 14:00Speaker 1: There's also like the human slave like souldiers, who it's
- 14:06Speaker 1: a real weird sort of in between for them that
- 14:10Speaker 1: the situation that they're in, and I really don't know
- 14:13Speaker 1: what to think about them. I'm like, I think that
- 14:16Speaker 1: they should just be let go, but also they have
- 14:22Speaker 1: to have something against fishmen after being pulled into slavery
- 14:27Speaker 1: like this, and is it safe for them to you
- 14:29Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, for them to just be let
- 14:33Speaker 1: loose and around, like they'd have to be given transportation
- 14:35Speaker 1: off of Fishman Island, and how would that even work,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I don't know. So anyway, this is the point where
- 14:44Speaker 1: Lufy is beginning to really go for it with the
- 14:47Speaker 1: elephant gatling, which looks very, very strange in the animation.
- 14:52Speaker 1: It almost looks as if the fists aren't part of him,
- 14:56Speaker 1: like they're separated from his body. And all of the
- 15:01Speaker 1: people on the ground, including all of the straw hats,
- 15:04Speaker 1: are just like shouting for him to save them and
- 15:07Speaker 1: get it done, and you know, appreciating the straw hats.
- 15:11Speaker 1: And then there is this one guy who he kind
- 15:16Speaker 1: of stops when they're all like fleeing, and it's this
- 15:22Speaker 1: conversation was a little bit confusing here. So everybody is
- 15:29Speaker 1: screaming and running, and one of the guys just stops
- 15:34Speaker 1: dead and says, I refuse to run, And his friend
- 15:38Speaker 1: is like, the Noah's right above us. We got to
- 15:40Speaker 1: get out of here, and he says, I know that
- 15:42Speaker 1: I'm not stupid, but this reminds me of another pirate.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Pirate who fought to protect us, another firate who thought
- 15:48Speaker 1: to protect us when I was a kid twenty years ago,
- 15:52Speaker 1: and I even recall you being there. Do you remember
- 15:57Speaker 1: there was one other human our kingdom review and they
- 16:02Speaker 1: think back to h I keep wanting to say, garp Oh,
- 16:07Speaker 1: my god, what is his name? Y'all know who I'm
- 16:10Speaker 1: talking about, mister A black Beard. I keep forgetting that
- 16:15Speaker 1: because it's just not accurate at all to him. My god,
- 16:22Speaker 1: But we see all of these mermaids that had been
- 16:25Speaker 1: caught up and are going to be sold on the
- 16:28Speaker 1: black market. Some are just tossed over pirate shoulders. One
- 16:31Speaker 1: of them is in like a giant bird cage looking thing,
- 16:35Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden there's this like shadow
- 16:39Speaker 1: in the way, and it's white Beard being like I said,
- 16:44Speaker 1: black Beard earlier, Sorry, white Beard saying, uh, Neptune helped
- 16:48Speaker 1: me out of a jam back when we were young,
- 16:49Speaker 1: and we pledged friendship over cups of sake. And if
- 16:55Speaker 1: you are going to fuck with my friends and their country,
- 17:01Speaker 1: you are going to have to deal with the consequences.
- 17:03Speaker 1: From this point forward, Fishman Island is under my protection,
- 17:10Speaker 1: and he whoops all of their asses. And this was like,
- 17:16Speaker 1: actually really lovely to see because white Beard has clearly
- 17:20Speaker 1: had a really good Oh yeah, sorry, Florian is in
- 17:24Speaker 1: the chat correcting me white Beard and black Beard was
- 17:26Speaker 1: a bad guy, yeah, who we see like a second
- 17:28Speaker 1: later because he is still on his crew at this point.
- 17:33Speaker 1: But when he announces that everybody is under his protection,
- 17:38Speaker 1: that we see these two guys as children, like starry
- 17:40Speaker 1: eyed and impressed. And one of the dudes, when we
- 17:45Speaker 1: come back to the present says to the other, well,
- 17:49Speaker 1: white Beard was a legend, dude, why do you trust
- 17:52Speaker 1: the straw Hats as much as him? And he says,
- 17:54Speaker 1: I don't even trust like humans, and this is our kingdom.
- 18:00Speaker 1: But what they said, and we once again hear Lufy's
- 18:05Speaker 1: speech kind of repeated again, we're going to save this island,
- 18:10Speaker 1: and it's like, guys, I don't know exactly what I
- 18:21Speaker 1: am supposed to think he is stopping doing. This guy
- 18:29Speaker 1: was running because the Noah is coming toward them, and
- 18:35Speaker 1: when he stops and thinks about the straw Hats, he
- 18:40Speaker 1: decides to not run anymore, even though, like, I guess
- 18:46Speaker 1: it's supposed to be, like I have faith that he's
- 18:48Speaker 1: going to be able to save the day, I suppose,
- 18:52Speaker 1: but it just feels strange to me where it's like, yeah,
- 18:56Speaker 1: you could just like get off island and then if
- 18:58Speaker 1: it's fine, come, Like there's just it's not like he is.
- 19:04Speaker 1: There's a sense to the way he's talking as if
- 19:08Speaker 1: like abandoning him would be dishonorable somehow, that like we're
- 19:14Speaker 1: leaving the straw Hats to deal with the mess on
- 19:16Speaker 1: their own. But you're not doing anything to help. You
- 19:20Speaker 1: don't have the ability to do anything here, so staying
- 19:24Speaker 1: isn't really it's you're making a point just for your
- 19:28Speaker 1: own sake, I guess, but it doesn't actually mean anything.
- 19:32Speaker 1: And we have had the scene with the fishmen bailing
- 19:37Speaker 1: and then stopping and thinking about what they owe the
- 19:40Speaker 1: straw Hats like four times in this arc already. Why
- 19:45Speaker 1: do we have to keep doing this, dudes? It's like
- 19:49Speaker 1: every group of episodes we have the same conversation, and
- 19:54Speaker 1: it's never like the people who are debating whether to
- 19:59Speaker 1: come or go are pointless, helpless victims. They are not
- 20:02Speaker 1: people who can chip in and assist really, you know,
- 20:06Speaker 1: so them deciding to stay doesn't actually matter at all,
- 20:11Speaker 1: And it's I get it. It's just meant to be
- 20:13Speaker 1: like we misjudge the straw Hats and now we want
- 20:15Speaker 1: to fine, but can we do it like in a
- 20:19Speaker 1: different way and not keep having this this moment and
- 20:25Speaker 1: the thing here with white Beard coming up. It was
- 20:29Speaker 1: just an odd moment because like, if we have had
- 20:32Speaker 1: this conversation a bunch of times, then I would think
- 20:34Speaker 1: white Beard would have come up before. But we're just
- 20:38Speaker 1: sort of trotting him out here as like somebody that
- 20:41Speaker 1: this guy met that he as a human didn't hate.
- 20:46Speaker 1: And I don't know if it's just meant to be
- 20:50Speaker 1: a reminder to us as viewers of who white Beard
- 20:52Speaker 1: was and what he did to let us know that
- 20:55Speaker 1: they were friends or what, but it like, I just
- 21:01Speaker 1: feel like this show has been getting better in terms
- 21:05Speaker 1: of doing things really repetitively, and this arc has been
- 21:09Speaker 1: so bad about it that I like there have been
- 21:14Speaker 1: a couple times where I have stopped and sort of
- 21:17Speaker 1: been like, wait, did I see this episode already? Because
- 21:20Speaker 1: people are having almost the same interaction that they did,
- 21:24Speaker 1: and it takes so long for anything to happen. So anyway,
- 21:29Speaker 1: this guy, you know, finally is like, Lo, I'm gonna
- 21:31Speaker 1: trust straw Hat, and everybody begins cheering make it happen
- 21:35Speaker 1: straw Hat, and I know that this is supposed to
- 21:37Speaker 1: be like a moment of Wow, everybody really is trying
- 21:41Speaker 1: to believe in him and support him. But just standing
- 21:45Speaker 1: on the ground where you're gonna get smashed like a bug,
- 21:48Speaker 1: yelling for this guy to please save us and do it, like,
- 21:52Speaker 1: please go ahead and save our asses, that doesn't feel
- 21:57Speaker 1: inspiring to me. It's just sort of annoying. It's like
- 22:01Speaker 1: if I were like killing myself up dealing with this
- 22:06Speaker 1: ship and punching until I was bleeding from the head,
- 22:11Speaker 1: and I just heard people being like, yeah, go do it,
- 22:14Speaker 1: help us, save us, I'd be like, can you just
- 22:17Speaker 1: please just let me focus for a second, come on,
- 22:20Speaker 1: like just these people are not helpful, and so just
- 22:27Speaker 1: stay out of it just enough. Already I think I'm
- 22:29Speaker 1: just irritated with the whole arc, and so I have
- 22:34Speaker 1: lost all patients with like the bystanders, and I just
- 22:38Speaker 1: want us to please move on, which gratefully we do
- 22:41Speaker 1: later on in this group of episodes, thank god, because
- 22:44Speaker 1: I tell you what, guys, if this went on for
- 22:46Speaker 1: another trio, I was about to feel like, can we
- 22:50Speaker 1: just jump ahead please to the part where it's over,
- 22:54Speaker 1: So you know, like I said, everybody is yelling, and
- 22:59Speaker 1: this thing with him continuing to punch it and going
- 23:04Speaker 1: like one by one through the straw hats cheering him on.
- 23:08Speaker 1: It's like a full six or seven minutes, and it just,
- 23:15Speaker 1: oh god, it's so drawn out. And finally you hear
- 23:20Speaker 1: a voice that says like, you can stop now, and
- 23:25Speaker 1: the princess is trying to get Loofy to, you know, cease,
- 23:29Speaker 1: because he is ready to kill himself here, and he
- 23:32Speaker 1: doesn't want to listen to her because she's saying it's okay,
- 23:35Speaker 1: and he's like, it's not okay. Everybody's gonna fucking die.
- 23:37Speaker 1: What is wrong with you? And then she's like, don't
- 23:40Speaker 1: you see it's stopped? And the camera pulls back and
- 23:44Speaker 1: we see that there are these sea kings gathered around
- 23:47Speaker 1: and they each have one of the chains for the
- 23:50Speaker 1: Noah in their mouths, and apparently it was designed with
- 23:53Speaker 1: the chains like this explicitly so that they could drag
- 23:57Speaker 1: it around, which I didn't even really consider why it
- 24:01Speaker 1: had chains at all. So I felt like, oh, okay, well,
- 24:06Speaker 1: I like that there's an explanation for that. I didn't
- 24:08Speaker 1: need it. I just figured that it had been like
- 24:11Speaker 1: what I assumed was that it was chained in place
- 24:13Speaker 1: wherever it was, and that when Vanderdecken disturbed it and
- 24:18Speaker 1: like brought it out to fuck with the island, that
- 24:20Speaker 1: he had just broken the chains and they were still
- 24:22Speaker 1: sort of clinging to.
- 24:23Speaker 2: It, you know.
- 24:26Speaker 1: And the sea Kings, it's such an interesting like because
- 24:30Speaker 1: they're not the sea Kings that we saw once before
- 24:35Speaker 1: that were just sort of these dumb beasts that are
- 24:39Speaker 1: gathered around without really understanding what is happening. They are
- 24:44Speaker 1: speaking fully and apparently understood by both the princess, and
- 24:51Speaker 1: they believe Loofy. And one of them is like, I
- 24:54Speaker 1: think that he can actually hear us, and another of
- 24:59Speaker 1: them says, well, I don't think that's likely, and he
- 25:01Speaker 1: replies with like somebody else was once able to hear us,
- 25:05Speaker 1: don't you remember? It wasn't even that long ago. And
- 25:09Speaker 1: we do a little flashback of gold Roger and he
- 25:13Speaker 1: is on the deck of his ship being like, do
- 25:15Speaker 1: you hear that? And everybody is like hear what? No I,
- 25:21Speaker 1: And he turns and just sort of yells out into
- 25:24Speaker 1: the water. Who's out there taunting me? Why do I
- 25:27Speaker 1: hear voices? And I just was laughing because like, none
- 25:32Speaker 1: of the Seekings actually comes out and speaks to him
- 25:34Speaker 1: in that moment. I don't know if later on they
- 25:36Speaker 1: do and he winds up getting validated, or if they
- 25:40Speaker 1: just sort of let him wonder for the rest of
- 25:42Speaker 1: his life. But I did think it was kind of
- 25:45Speaker 1: funny that there's no real evidence that can make him
- 25:48Speaker 1: seem like not a person who's going through a mental
- 25:51Speaker 1: health episode in that little like flashback. Florian says, I
- 25:58Speaker 1: think movie would find it annoying too, and yeah, yeah,
- 26:00Speaker 1: this was where the anime really slowed down. Yeah, so
- 26:05Speaker 1: what we find out here is that the Princess can
- 26:10Speaker 1: summon the Sea Kings, not because it's just some like
- 26:15Speaker 1: random power, but because she is the queen of the
- 26:22Speaker 1: Sea Kings. That the their queen keeps reincarnating as a mermaid,
- 26:30Speaker 1: and they're not really sure why it happens like that.
- 26:33Speaker 1: But I what a weird thing to have a completely
- 26:44Speaker 1: different species basically like ruling over you. It makes me
- 26:49Speaker 1: think of the weirdness of Narnia and how it's ruled
- 26:54Speaker 1: by like four kings and queens who aren't even native Narnians.
- 26:58Speaker 1: They're humans from Earth that wind up there by accident
- 27:03Speaker 1: at random, and it just feels sort of like, ah,
- 27:08Speaker 1: could we not have set this up like a little
- 27:09Speaker 1: bit better if you wick.
- 27:12Speaker 2: So?
- 27:13Speaker 1: Anyway, the next episode is when we find out all
- 27:18Speaker 1: of this stuff about like the fact that she is
- 27:21Speaker 1: the exalted Queen, that she and only she other than
- 27:25Speaker 1: Lufy can hear them, and we see the princes that
- 27:31Speaker 1: are hanging around and watching what's happening and trying to understand,
- 27:34Speaker 1: and he, like one of them finally says, I think
- 27:38Speaker 1: that she's actually speaking with them. And the guys that
- 27:42Speaker 1: are in the tower that made the bubble are explaining
- 27:46Speaker 1: to everybody there's a bunch of sea kings that stopped it.
- 27:50Speaker 1: We're not really sure what must be happening, and the
- 27:55Speaker 1: king seems to understand. He's like, oh, so it's finely awakened,
- 28:02Speaker 1: and he calls it the power that can destroy the
- 28:06Speaker 1: entire world. But I really still wasn't seeing that, like
- 28:11Speaker 1: the princess was the thing I destroy the entire world
- 28:21Speaker 1: like with sea kings. I'm assuming what he's saying is
- 28:24Speaker 1: like that somebody could use the sea kings because there's
- 28:28Speaker 1: so many and they're so enormous to basically like tear
- 28:32Speaker 1: the world apart. I suppose, and I guess that makes
- 28:36Speaker 1: sense because like this whole world does feel like it's
- 28:39Speaker 1: comprised of mostly islands. There seems to be no major continents,
- 28:46Speaker 1: so that's really the only way that that would sort
- 28:50Speaker 1: of work out, I guess. But anyway, at this point,
- 28:56Speaker 1: the Sea Kings are seeing that the bubble that was
- 28:59Speaker 1: around the Noah has been connected to the island's bubble
- 29:04Speaker 1: and it's beginning to pull the air off of it,
- 29:06Speaker 1: which means it's about to become you know, unsafe for
- 29:11Speaker 1: Loofy because there will no longer be any air for him.
- 29:14Speaker 1: And so shira Hoshi is like swimming toward him at
- 29:18Speaker 1: top speed because he's really badly injured. He is bleeding
- 29:23Speaker 1: like crazy.
- 29:24Speaker 2: And.
- 29:26Speaker 1: The Sea Kings just continue to hold the Noah here
- 29:31Speaker 1: and pull it backward. But yeah, this is when they
- 29:35Speaker 1: have the conversation about Loufy hearing them. So let's see
- 29:42Speaker 1: we go to the let's see the oh I forgot that.
- 29:50Speaker 1: They talk about the whether the Noah can be repaired,
- 29:53Speaker 1: and they say, I hope, So it's anointed. Time is approaching,
- 30:00Speaker 1: so there's something else that's going to happen. And the
- 30:04Speaker 1: Sea Kings also when they talk to the princess are
- 30:08Speaker 1: They say something about how they've been waiting for her
- 30:13Speaker 1: to call them, And we saw that she had summoned
- 30:17Speaker 1: sea kings before when she was very small. But evidently
- 30:22Speaker 1: that wasn't like a complete that was like a partially
- 30:26Speaker 1: achieved call. It was like, you know, she dialed like
- 30:29Speaker 1: a few numbers, but didn't really quite get all the
- 30:32Speaker 1: way there. So from the palace we get news that
- 30:42Speaker 1: we've discovered all the mermaids that have been kidnapped. They're
- 30:45Speaker 1: right here on the premises and they are all like
- 30:49Speaker 1: safe and well, but we have been robbed. Somebody has
- 30:54Speaker 1: emptied out, like the entire vault, essentially, the treasure chamber's
- 31:01Speaker 1: been wiped clean. They took it all down to the
- 31:03Speaker 1: last piece. And we even lost the tamat box. What
- 31:11Speaker 1: is that? Do we know what that is? Did I forget?
- 31:14Speaker 1: I don't recall, but it may have been mentioned. It
- 31:18Speaker 1: feels like it's ringing a bell, but I might just
- 31:20Speaker 1: be making that up. And of course when the minister
- 31:26Speaker 1: tells the King, he's basically like, who the fuck cares
- 31:30Speaker 1: about some fucking treasures? We almost just all died, Like
- 31:33Speaker 1: the entire island was nearly annihilated. This is not something
- 31:37Speaker 1: that I am worried about. Just tell everybody that they
- 31:41Speaker 1: are safe, that things are cool, and there's damage. But
- 31:46Speaker 1: we have to also work on clearing the straw Hats
- 31:48Speaker 1: names because we fucked up and accused them and made
- 31:52Speaker 1: everybody think that the worst of them. So it's time
- 31:55Speaker 1: for us to set that right. And this is when
- 31:59Speaker 1: we have the human that are trying to escape the
- 32:01Speaker 1: guys that were in the fight. Who were It's sort
- 32:05Speaker 1: of like unclear to me, guys the way that they're
- 32:08Speaker 1: running away and saying like this isn't even our fight.
- 32:13Speaker 1: They are these the ones that were enslaved or are
- 32:16Speaker 1: these supposed to just be humans like that decided to
- 32:20Speaker 1: throw in with Hordy. I wouldn't think that he would
- 32:22Speaker 1: fight with them, But I'm trying to find this moment
- 32:29Speaker 1: we're humans, it's not like this was our fight anyway.
- 32:32Speaker 1: And they come up on Jimbey, who stops them, and
- 32:35Speaker 1: then there are some fishman pirates who are about to
- 32:39Speaker 1: go over Jimbey's head, and the fishman pirates are it
- 32:45Speaker 1: seems like mixed in with the humans, and I think
- 32:49Speaker 1: it's supposed to be that, like the humans are making
- 32:51Speaker 1: a break for it, and the bad fishmen who are
- 32:54Speaker 1: trying to evade capture are just trying to hide among
- 32:59Speaker 1: their ranks. Is that correct? Florian says, all humans there
- 33:04Speaker 1: are slaves. Okay, that's what I thought. But yeah, so
- 33:10Speaker 1: one of the one of the fishmen is like, Jim Bay,
- 33:15Speaker 1: you've got to get us out of here. They're going
- 33:18Speaker 1: to kill us. We didn't even want this fight, Hordy
- 33:22Speaker 1: misled us. And then another guy jumps in front of
- 33:24Speaker 1: him and is like, we're humans and this civil war
- 33:27Speaker 1: hasn't got anything to do with us. Besides, tourism is
- 33:29Speaker 1: good for their economy. So and I was like, that
- 33:33Speaker 1: is such a strange argument to make right now. I
- 33:37Speaker 1: could not get over what a weird And it's like
- 33:42Speaker 1: I think it's meant to be weird because he doesn't
- 33:45Speaker 1: even finish his sentence. He just starts to say it
- 33:47Speaker 1: and then like Peter's out, like he realizes that he
- 33:50Speaker 1: doesn't really have a good point that he's making. But
- 33:53Speaker 1: it was bizarre to me that that was even part
- 33:57Speaker 1: of the dialogue. I was like, what, why are we okay?
- 34:02Speaker 1: But anyway, Jim Bay says, you guys are not going anywhere.
- 34:07Speaker 1: The family is going to make their decision, and it
- 34:10Speaker 1: might not even be as bad as you think, so
- 34:13Speaker 1: you're just going to have to sit tight and find
- 34:16Speaker 1: out what is in store for you. We get the
- 34:20Speaker 1: announcement where we're letting the entire island know that the
- 34:24Speaker 1: straw Hats weren't responsible for the kidnappings, and we have
- 34:30Speaker 1: all of these fishmen who are trying to say, we
- 34:34Speaker 1: knew it wasn't the straw Hats. We always were like
- 34:40Speaker 1: all along, we never believed it was them, and we
- 34:43Speaker 1: just didn't want to say anything. And some little kid
- 34:46Speaker 1: just pipes up and says, that's not true, and another
- 34:50Speaker 1: kid says, yeah, we heard what you said. Admit it.
- 34:55Speaker 1: And finally one of them says, yeah, we just thought
- 34:58Speaker 1: they were responsible because they were humans. And everybody seems
- 35:03Speaker 1: very ashamed of themselves, and a guy like sort of
- 35:08Speaker 1: bows his head and says, yeah, I'm sorry, You're right,
- 35:14Speaker 1: We've always been like that. I think that you will
- 35:20Speaker 1: probably know what I'm gonna say to this, but it
- 35:23Speaker 1: is not an issue to me that the fishermen thought
- 35:28Speaker 1: the worst of humans when they have historically been slaved
- 35:34Speaker 1: by humans for how long now it seems like it's
- 35:39Speaker 1: been at least decades, if not longer. I think I'm
- 35:43Speaker 1: really supposed to be sort of judging them for, you know,
- 35:47Speaker 1: making these these snap judgments on humans, and I don't
- 35:53Speaker 1: feel that at all, because human beings have been dangerous
- 35:59Speaker 1: for you, So yeah, of course you thought that, Like
- 36:05Speaker 1: it's just the sort of thing of just like, oh, well,
- 36:08Speaker 1: reverse racism. You know, No, you have not experienced actual
- 36:13Speaker 1: oppression because of the opinion of people of color toward
- 36:18Speaker 1: white people. You just have your little feelings hurt, and
- 36:21Speaker 1: that is not the same fucking thing. And that's sort
- 36:24Speaker 1: of how I felt about this, that it's meant to
- 36:26Speaker 1: be like this learning moment of like you're not supposed
- 36:28Speaker 1: to judge a book by its cover, And I'm like, well,
- 36:31Speaker 1: when the books are all walking around doing the same thing,
- 36:36Speaker 1: then maybe it's the book's fault that they're all getting
- 36:39Speaker 1: blamed for it, because that's historically been what books do. Perhaps,
- 36:45Speaker 1: so I'm just going to handwave this and just be like, listen,
- 36:49Speaker 1: I don't really And later on, when Lufy is recovered
- 36:55Speaker 1: and they have to find a blood donor for him,
- 36:58Speaker 1: nobody wants to do and it's a really odd moment
- 37:03Speaker 1: because I understood why the straw Hats were like, are
- 37:07Speaker 1: you fucking serious to you guys? None of you he
- 37:09Speaker 1: saved this whole island and you can't fucking donate blood.
- 37:13Speaker 1: But also there's like this thing where it's technically illegal
- 37:17Speaker 1: to donate to humans, and I was like, are we
- 37:20Speaker 1: really worried about legality right now? Like this place is
- 37:23Speaker 1: in shambles, nobody's gonna care. And so for all of
- 37:29Speaker 1: them to sort of have these multiple, as I've already mentioned,
- 37:34Speaker 1: moments of like, oh, the straw Hats aren't bad guys
- 37:38Speaker 1: after all, and we should support them and help them
- 37:40Speaker 1: because look at all they've done for us, and then
- 37:42Speaker 1: this moment of being like, oh, we never even thought
- 37:44Speaker 1: the straw Hats were bad guys, and then well, yes
- 37:47Speaker 1: we did, but we were wrong and we're ashamed. To
- 37:50Speaker 1: then have the moment of truth where they could help
- 37:54Speaker 1: by donating blood and none of them steps up to
- 37:56Speaker 1: do it. I felt kind of like, I don't understand
- 38:02Speaker 1: why we had so many of those other scenes only
- 38:06Speaker 1: for this moment to occur where nobody volunteers except for Jembe.
- 38:11Speaker 1: I feel like there should have been because, like I said,
- 38:15Speaker 1: when they all discuss how the straw Hats are cool
- 38:18Speaker 1: actually and they decide to stay. It's not like they're
- 38:21Speaker 1: actually doing anything to help. So we really didn't need
- 38:27Speaker 1: those scenes. It was just meant to stretch things out,
- 38:30Speaker 1: And I don't understand why we had it if it
- 38:36Speaker 1: wasn't going to result in finally somebody deciding to step up,
- 38:42Speaker 1: somebody who isn't Jimbe, who doesn't know the straw Hats personally,
- 38:47Speaker 1: I assumed that's where we were going with it, and
- 38:52Speaker 1: the fact that it winds up being JIMBEI is like
- 38:56Speaker 1: a kind of damning moment for the Fishmen, more so
- 39:01Speaker 1: to me than them judging the straw Hats, because if
- 39:05Speaker 1: you judge all humans after humans have historically enslaved you,
- 39:09Speaker 1: I'm just not going to have a problem with that.
- 39:11Speaker 1: You're going off of what you know is true and dangerous.
- 39:16Speaker 1: But once you realize that these dudes are the good
- 39:19Speaker 1: guys and that they risk their asses to help save you,
- 39:22Speaker 1: and then you don't want to even donate blood now,
- 39:25Speaker 1: I'm just kind of like, well, fuck you then. And honestly,
- 39:31Speaker 1: the Fishmen in general, it has been a weird sort
- 39:35Speaker 1: of flip flopping back and forth, no pun intended as
- 39:39Speaker 1: the fish do. And this moment I expected it to
- 39:45Speaker 1: be a sort of like almost a heartwarming like too
- 39:49Speaker 1: many people are volunteering, that they don't need that much blood,
- 39:54Speaker 1: that it's okay, and nobody does. And it just felt
- 39:59Speaker 1: like from a storytelling perspective, that whole thing with them
- 40:04Speaker 1: deciding the straw hats were cool doesn't pay off very well,
- 40:08Speaker 1: you know. So anyway, I'm gonna back up a little
- 40:12Speaker 1: bit because, like the whole thing with with Chopper, I
- 40:17Speaker 1: had just been saying, y'all about how glad I was
- 40:20Speaker 1: that Chopper wasn't going to be suffering any long lasting
- 40:24Speaker 1: ill effects from using a rumble ball, and look, I
- 40:28Speaker 1: was immediately proved wrong. He's over here staggering around with
- 40:34Speaker 1: X's for eyes, saying that he's fine actually, but he
- 40:39Speaker 1: winds up collapsing and he says it's because I use
- 40:42Speaker 1: the monster point that one wears me out. I won't
- 40:45Speaker 1: be able to walk for a few hours. H I'm
- 40:52Speaker 1: so bummed. I really thought, I really thought, but no,
- 40:57Speaker 1: And as he's laying there and says, like, you know,
- 41:02Speaker 1: I can, I'm not gonna be able to walk, then
- 41:05Speaker 1: he's like, but I can still treat your wounds. What's
- 41:10Speaker 1: going on? Everybody? Come here and let me take a
- 41:12Speaker 1: look at you. Florian says, I have many thoughts on this.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Maybe we can talk about it in my upcoming wannabe.
- 41:19Speaker 1: All right, yeah, put a put a pin in that.
- 41:25Speaker 1: So this is this is the Zorro line, guys that
- 41:29Speaker 1: I loved so much. When he says like, I can
- 41:34Speaker 1: still treat your injuries, and then he says, slowly, who's hurt?
- 41:38Speaker 1: Let me take a look, Zorro says, worry about yourself first.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Robin says it looks like everyone here is fine, and
- 41:47Speaker 1: then Sangy chimes in and says, except for me, after
- 41:53Speaker 1: all that fighting, I need to rest my head too
- 41:55Speaker 1: on only your lap can heal me? Please? And so
- 42:00Speaker 1: says rested up your ass instead? Oh, Zorro is me
- 42:09Speaker 1: right now. The lack of patients that I have with
- 42:14Speaker 1: Sanji these days, I really, you know, most of the
- 42:18Speaker 1: time I tend to side with Sanji just because Zorro
- 42:21Speaker 1: is so self important that I find him a little
- 42:23Speaker 1: bit annoying every now and then. But Sanji has been
- 42:28Speaker 1: so insufferable that at this point fully on Zoro's side,
- 42:35Speaker 1: so this is when we have the uh reveal of
- 42:41Speaker 1: the princess coming down and carrying Loofy and just being
- 42:45Speaker 1: like he's bleeding, it's not stopping. I don't know what
- 42:49Speaker 1: to do. And also the princes they have custody of
- 42:55Speaker 1: both Cordy and Vanderdecken, and they are like chained up.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Hordy is completely unconscious. It doesn't seem like he's dead
- 43:05Speaker 1: or they wouldn't bother locking him up. I like really
- 43:10Speaker 1: don't want to ever see Hordy again.
- 43:13Speaker 2: I the.
- 43:16Speaker 1: I really really hope that this is a rap on him,
- 43:20Speaker 1: because we've had some villains just kind of recur, escape,
- 43:24Speaker 1: come back, you know, and I just honestly I don't
- 43:28Speaker 1: want it. It's he's just so boring. And also I
- 43:33Speaker 1: was sort of waiting for him to like turn back
- 43:35Speaker 1: into his previous version of himself because of the drug
- 43:40Speaker 1: wearing off, and it doesn't look like that's even happening.
- 43:44Speaker 1: It seems like whatever changes the drugs wrought on him
- 43:48Speaker 1: are permanent, which is wild. I didn't think that was
- 43:53Speaker 1: going to be how that went. But and maybe I'm wrong,
- 43:55Speaker 1: you know, maybe it's just that I haven't gotten to
- 43:57Speaker 1: that part yet. But yeah, so they all get chained up,
- 44:04Speaker 1: and then we have the uh, you know, confrontation with
- 44:07Speaker 1: everybody because he doesn't have enough blood, and jim Bay
- 44:14Speaker 1: steps forward, and it's sort of weird because like, the
- 44:16Speaker 1: King is watching this whole interaction, but I guess he
- 44:19Speaker 1: doesn't have the right blood type. So he seems like
- 44:23Speaker 1: very upset with his people, and it almost seems as
- 44:26Speaker 1: if he's going to like speak out loud and be like,
- 44:29Speaker 1: what the fuck is the matter with y'all, But just
- 44:31Speaker 1: before he gets a chance to do that, it was
- 44:36Speaker 1: It's like, you guys, when when Jimbae volunteers, all of
- 44:42Speaker 1: these fishmen turn to each other and high five and
- 44:46Speaker 1: say thank you and good like what a good guy
- 44:50Speaker 1: Jimbae is. I'm like, any one of you could have
- 44:53Speaker 1: decided to do this. Why are you acting like, oh,
- 44:55Speaker 1: he's here to save the day, like you couldn't. They're
- 44:58Speaker 1: fucking useless, these people, What the fuck is the point
- 45:01Speaker 1: of them? Like, honestly, I just ugh, I'm so irritated,
- 45:05Speaker 1: I'm so annoyed. So that's mostly what the end of
- 45:10Speaker 1: the episode is is watching Jimbei donate blood, which, let
- 45:16Speaker 1: me tell you, is not very exciting. And it's very
- 45:20Speaker 1: funny because like all this blood is being donated, and
- 45:24Speaker 1: we have the narrator talking about like the discord amongst
- 45:31Speaker 1: all of the fish men and humans, and the tears
- 45:36Speaker 1: of the people are like reanimated to look like blood,
- 45:41Speaker 1: and the narrator saying the tube through which this blood flows,
- 45:47Speaker 1: and there's like all of these flashbacks to everybody, the
- 45:50Speaker 1: Queen and Hordy as a kid, the narrator, small and
- 45:55Speaker 1: fragile though it is, provides a pathway and then a
- 46:00Speaker 1: flashback to white Beard through the prejudice that divides us,
- 46:08Speaker 1: and you know, the whole thing is meant to be
- 46:10Speaker 1: that fishman or human we all bleed red and fundamentally
- 46:18Speaker 1: we're all made of the same stuff and the conflicts
- 46:22Speaker 1: that we create. And it just feels to me like
- 46:29Speaker 1: an incredibly self important ending for a story that was
- 46:34Speaker 1: handled really really poorly and ultimately ended with the fishman
- 46:42Speaker 1: refusing to donate blood. So using this as like this
- 46:45Speaker 1: moment of like, oh, this is what brings us together.
- 46:48Speaker 1: It didn't though they don't do it. Jimbay does it,
- 46:52Speaker 1: and he's already been like siding with humans, so it
- 46:54Speaker 1: doesn't really mean anything like why are you making this
- 46:59Speaker 1: big pronounce as if suddenly we're united. We're not. I
- 47:04Speaker 1: just watched this. That's not what happened. What are you
- 47:07Speaker 1: talking about, especially considering the fact that, like the narrator,
- 47:13Speaker 1: getting these sorts of monologues doesn't happen that often. So
- 47:16Speaker 1: it's especially feeling like this is the end of a
- 47:18Speaker 1: very special episode, and it's you know, we're finally escaping
- 47:24Speaker 1: the the division between us so that we can swim
- 47:29Speaker 1: up to the warm light of the sun. And I'm
- 47:34Speaker 1: just sitting there like, but you just showed me that
- 47:37Speaker 1: they don't really want to do that. Okay, I guess.
- 47:42Speaker 1: And the episode ends with Lufy finally like coming back
- 47:46Speaker 1: to consciousness and the Prince saying we made it back
- 47:52Speaker 1: to zero, which is another thing that I don't feel
- 47:57Speaker 1: like works. I believe what we're trying to say is
- 48:00Speaker 1: like now we have a clean slate, but you don't
- 48:06Speaker 1: have a clean slate, Like this stuff is. The history
- 48:10Speaker 1: is still there. All of this stuff happened. The straw
- 48:15Speaker 1: hats all just watched every fishman refuse to help Lufy's
- 48:20Speaker 1: save his life. We're not back to z We're not
- 48:24Speaker 1: a fresh slate at all. It is all of this
- 48:27Speaker 1: felt like we were celebrating, and I was like, did
- 48:31Speaker 1: I just fucking like have a fever dream? I saw
- 48:36Speaker 1: what you did? What do you mean? I just felt
- 48:39Speaker 1: like it was being gas lit by the show. It
- 48:41Speaker 1: was just bizarre. I don't understand this, guys. It's never
- 48:44Speaker 1: been like there have been times where I can tell
- 48:46Speaker 1: what the show is trying to do and that I
- 48:49Speaker 1: am just interpreting it through a modern lens and I'm
- 48:53Speaker 1: not really like seeing it the way the author intended
- 48:56Speaker 1: it to be because we have really different frames of reference.
- 48:59Speaker 1: You know, like there's a lot of child beating in
- 49:02Speaker 1: this show that is meant to be sort of heartwarming
- 49:05Speaker 1: tough love, and I'm just like, that's actually horrifying. But
- 49:11Speaker 1: in this case, I feel like I don't get how
- 49:14Speaker 1: the author thinks I saw this because he wrote it
- 49:17Speaker 1: very particularly in one way, so I don't get it anyway.
- 49:25Speaker 1: The final episode is the humans being released, and rightfully,
- 49:32Speaker 1: in my opinion, the advisors to the king are like,
- 49:36Speaker 1: but they may just like turn on us because they
- 49:39Speaker 1: got enslaved by us, and the King says, well, we
- 49:43Speaker 1: can't let fears like that be what drives us. These
- 49:49Speaker 1: humans never meant us any deliberate harm. We have no
- 49:52Speaker 1: right to imprison them. And while I agree that you
- 49:56Speaker 1: don't have the right to imprison them, I also kind
- 49:58Speaker 1: of was like, maybe you could just squirt them out
- 50:01Speaker 1: of here, though perhaps just you know, not have them
- 50:05Speaker 1: in and amongst everybody. And then the pirates that had
- 50:11Speaker 1: risen up are begging for their lives, and they're saying
- 50:14Speaker 1: that like Hordy, killing the queen was not something that
- 50:17Speaker 1: they knew about, that he was like a madman and
- 50:20Speaker 1: they aren't responsible for what he did and dragged them into.
- 50:25Speaker 1: But honestly, once he made this announcement, y'all were still
- 50:29Speaker 1: fighting for him, So it felt very like, what do
- 50:32Speaker 1: you even mean once you knew it didn't seem to
- 50:34Speaker 1: change a thing, y'all were still on his side. And
- 50:38Speaker 1: the King looks over them and says, from here on,
- 50:42Speaker 1: I officially order you all to live here on the
- 50:45Speaker 1: main island. And these guys who were just saying, please
- 50:53Speaker 1: don't cut our heads off, one of them starts yelling
- 50:56Speaker 1: you want us to start living law abiding lives with
- 51:00Speaker 1: this like outraged tone. I was like, sir, do you
- 51:04Speaker 1: recall how he was other like it was going to
- 51:06Speaker 1: be all or your death, and people are just yelling like,
- 51:10Speaker 1: you can't be serious, and I'm just mystified by this reaction.
- 51:16Speaker 1: And the other people on Fishman Island says like, we
- 51:20Speaker 1: don't want them in our neighborhoods. We're not going to
- 51:23Speaker 1: feel safe letting our kids out to play and stuff,
- 51:26Speaker 1: and Neptune interrupts and says, well, you are going to
- 51:29Speaker 1: serve your time. You'll work under the supervision of my army.
- 51:32Speaker 1: I'll provide you all with gainful employment to use up
- 51:35Speaker 1: all of that energy of yours. And from this day forward,
- 51:38Speaker 1: the Fishman District will be sealed off an all entry prohibited.
- 51:46Speaker 1: So here's my thing again, the Fishman Districts as a
- 51:52Speaker 1: location as real estate wasn't the problem. It was the
- 51:58Speaker 1: way you handled these people that was the problem. Deciding
- 52:03Speaker 1: that you're just gonna shut it down and not let
- 52:05Speaker 1: anybody in, that's not gonna change things. Like, now we've
- 52:10Speaker 1: got a bunch of people who don't have anywhere to live.
- 52:12Speaker 1: What does this mean? What you would do to actually
- 52:17Speaker 1: solve the problem is you would begin to put resources
- 52:22Speaker 1: into the Fishman District and create homes there and use
- 52:28Speaker 1: these guys to if you're going to put them into
- 52:30Speaker 1: labor for the crown as punishment, have them build their
- 52:35Speaker 1: own neighborhood up and make it into something that's safe
- 52:39Speaker 1: and beautiful and that has like more supervision so that
- 52:42Speaker 1: they're not just doing whatever crazy shit without you guys
- 52:47Speaker 1: wanting to look in that direction so that you can
- 52:49Speaker 1: safely ignore it. It just was such a weird decision
- 52:54Speaker 1: to me that we were gonna just cut off this
- 52:57Speaker 1: entire like neighborhood and act as if the neighborhood itself
- 53:02Speaker 1: was making people evil. The neighborhood isn't the issue. You're
- 53:06Speaker 1: just pulling people who are out of the place that
- 53:10Speaker 1: they're familiar with and throwing them in with folks who
- 53:13Speaker 1: are what is this? This is just nothing. This is nothing.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Florian says, I love how you just say what you say.
- 53:23Speaker 1: It is great. I'm glad to hear that, because sometimes
- 53:26Speaker 1: I do feel like everybody's gonna hate me because I'm
- 53:29Speaker 1: just so angry at this. But it doesn't make any sense.
- 53:32Speaker 1: It's like no better to me. We had a whole
- 53:36Speaker 1: story about how burning down Gray Terminal because it was
- 53:41Speaker 1: all poor people, was like the wrong thing to do,
- 53:43Speaker 1: and granted it was supposed to be like they're killing
- 53:45Speaker 1: all of the poors, So that was a different situation
- 53:49Speaker 1: because we're not locking this down with people inside it.
- 53:52Speaker 1: But it still very much felt like, well, we're just
- 53:54Speaker 1: gonna do away with this whole area and then we
- 53:57Speaker 1: won't have to worry about crime anymore. It's the people.
- 54:00Speaker 1: It's the circumstances that you made them live in. It's
- 54:03Speaker 1: the fact that you weren't dedicating any resources to them,
- 54:07Speaker 1: and now you're just like removing them from their homes
- 54:11Speaker 1: and completely displacing them and forcing people to live like
- 54:16Speaker 1: with folks who are historically been dangerous and you expect
- 54:23Speaker 1: everybody to like be cool. That's not accomplishing anything, that's
- 54:27Speaker 1: not doing anything. It's just really weird. And again we
- 54:30Speaker 1: have the narrator come in the dark side of the
- 54:33Speaker 1: Fishmen had been exposed along with the killer. The conspirator,
- 54:39Speaker 1: Hordy Jones, attempted to seize control of Fishmen. We know,
- 54:45Speaker 1: we just watched this, but he failed, all thanks to
- 54:51Speaker 1: a band of human We know it actually took quite
- 54:56Speaker 1: a long time. We remember, we just saw this. Why
- 55:00Speaker 1: are we doing this? What is this? The narrator has
- 55:03Speaker 1: come in before with his like here's the moral of
- 55:06Speaker 1: the story. Very occasionally, this was the first time I
- 55:10Speaker 1: felt like the narrator came in and just literally summarized
- 55:14Speaker 1: the plot, and I was just kind of, this is
- 55:17Speaker 1: the sort of thing that I would expect at the
- 55:19Speaker 1: very beginning of the episode to tell you previously on
- 55:23Speaker 1: and instead it's like ten minutes in, it's just a
- 55:26Speaker 1: very very strange series of plot beats and like narrative choices.
- 55:36Speaker 1: And at this point the King is like, well, where's Loofy,
- 55:39Speaker 1: And the Prince says, well, he kind of sky daddled,
- 55:43Speaker 1: and we see all of them on the ship like
- 55:46Speaker 1: taken off evidently, which I can't be mad at because
- 55:50Speaker 1: the way that the Fisherman reacted to saving Lufy's life
- 55:53Speaker 1: was not exactly welcoming. So I can't help but be like, yeah,
- 55:57Speaker 1: I could see just wanting to leave as well, you know,
- 56:02Speaker 1: and the princess is swimming around their ship and is
- 56:09Speaker 1: just like, why are you leaving me? Haven't gotten a
- 56:11Speaker 1: chance to thank you? And Zorro is like, well, they
- 56:17Speaker 1: would just treat us like heroes or something stupid, and
- 56:19Speaker 1: it makes me sick. I was just he eventually does
- 56:26Speaker 1: this whole, like a friend or a hero is somebody
- 56:30Speaker 1: who shares thesake and I want it all for myself.
- 56:34Speaker 1: And honestly, that was the most I've related to Zorro.
- 56:37Speaker 1: I was very much like, yeah, I get it when
- 56:39Speaker 1: people are like, oh, you're so generous or you're so kind,
- 56:42Speaker 1: and I'm like, I'm not that kind. If I got
- 56:44Speaker 1: like some chicken nuggies, I'm not giving you any. That's
- 56:47Speaker 1: that's that's how kind I am. You don't get any.
- 56:53Speaker 1: But eventually they are convinced to come back because there's
- 57:00Speaker 1: going to be a feast. They're going to make good
- 57:02Speaker 1: on the feast that they offered in the first place,
- 57:05Speaker 1: and invited the straw Hats to the palace for and
- 57:12Speaker 1: you guys, again we have the narrator, And with Neptune's
- 57:18Speaker 1: official decree, the Fishman District was sealed off. Why as
- 57:26Speaker 1: for the fate of Hordy, his officers of the new
- 57:29Speaker 1: Fishman Pirates, and Vanderdekin, they were all locked away within
- 57:33Speaker 1: the prison tower. Why is this happening? Is this something
- 57:38Speaker 1: they're going to do?
- 57:39Speaker 2: Now? All of this we know?
- 57:44Speaker 1: Why are you telling us? You know we're aware of
- 57:47Speaker 1: all of it. Eventually we get some new info where
- 57:52Speaker 1: there's the big like monk that's carried off by the
- 57:55Speaker 1: kraken and he's forbidden to ever enter again. And then
- 58:00Speaker 1: we go to all of the fishmen gathering up food
- 58:03Speaker 1: for the feast, and they are bringing like enormous There's
- 58:13Speaker 1: like a Swiss role that's the size of a canoe
- 58:16Speaker 1: this guy's carrying. And I was just like, do fishmen
- 58:20Speaker 1: just eat like way bigger food? And then I remembered, well,
- 58:23Speaker 1: maybe because the king and the princess are fucking gigantic,
- 58:26Speaker 1: so maybe they do just make all of their food
- 58:28Speaker 1: like bigger when it comes to the royals. And yeah,
- 58:34Speaker 1: our friends have a little bit of a party, and
- 58:39Speaker 1: this is I always am a fan of the obligatory
- 58:43Speaker 1: end of arc feast. It's always a good time, you know.
- 58:48Speaker 1: And the one thing that's different here that I was
- 58:53Speaker 1: sort of like, how do I feel about this? Is
- 58:58Speaker 1: we have this singer, the greatest Diva of the Deep Sea,
- 59:03Speaker 1: Maria Napoli something like that, And first of all, she's
- 59:09Speaker 1: very clearly black coded in the way that she has
- 59:12Speaker 1: been drawn and the way that she sings, and the
- 59:17Speaker 1: presentation of her was really giving me that fifth element singer.
- 59:21Speaker 1: So this is the second like when I mentioned earlier,
- 59:24Speaker 1: I had this happen again. Yeah, uh, I don't mind
- 59:30Speaker 1: having this like singing in general. It's just the weirdness
- 59:36Speaker 1: of the tone of it. Whenever we're gonna like start
- 59:39Speaker 1: doing the black coded stuff with certain characters and her
- 59:45Speaker 1: having these like giant lips, it just feels really not great.
- 59:51Speaker 1: But it doesn't wind up being too like major a point.
- 59:55Speaker 1: We're just mostly getting this music falling into the background.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Eventually the backup singers that turn up. Of course, Sonjy
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: utterly falls in love with and starts trying to seduce
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: Brooke himself like manages to get close to one, and
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Soanji is feeling like he needs to start taking a
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: leaf out of Brooks book and learning how to seduce
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: women in his way, which I really don't know if
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: that's the way. I feel like, maybe I don't know
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: that either of you guys really is somebody that knows
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: how to deal with women very well. But you know,
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: I could be wrong. And of course we have everybody
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: drinking and it's not me. He is like getting really
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: fucking plastered, and the Prince is genuinely impressed. With how
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: much she is able to put away, and we get
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: to see Chopper on a pile of desserts and just
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: go into town on them, and I was just like, see,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: this is what he is, what he deserves. Good on you, Chopper.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: And then the episode ends with Robin going to speak
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: to Neptune about the ponoglyph and being like, hey, so
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: I found something weird, and you don't have to tell
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: me if you don't want, but I am curious. And
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: he starts telling a story about somebody called joy Boy,
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: which I cannot express what a strange like. It sounds
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: like a brand of candy bar or something. He was
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: a person above the sea who lived during the time
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: of the one hundred year void, which is to say,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: more than eight hundred years ago. The message you read
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: he wrote to a mermaid princess who lived on this
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: island during that time period. It's a letter of apology
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: for failing to keep the promise he made to this island.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: I'm and he doesn't know what the details of the promises.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: According to legend, it said somebody will come to fulfill
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: it someday on behalf of joy Boy. At least that's
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: the story that's been passed down through our royal family,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: and we firmly believe that this day will come. So
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: we've continued to look after the Noah for generations, just
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: as we promised him, and when the time arrives, the
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: Noah will finally be put to its intended use, whatever
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: that may be. And Robin's like, oh, okay, So the
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: Noah was taken to the sea forest after the battle,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: and the Sea Kings are the ones who took it.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: If the joy Boy truly planned to use the Noah,
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: then did he have control of the Sea Kings And
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: he says no, it was the Mermaid Princess and Robin says, yeah, okay,
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: that's what I figured. And now Shira Ho she is
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: able to do the same thing, and we get a
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: little flashback and she says, to you, years ago in Chandora,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: I read a pony glyph that located one of the
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: ancient weapons, and she describes it as being named Poseidon,
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: and she says, all signs pointed to this island. This
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: mermaid princess that lived during the same time as Joy
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: Boy was known by another name as well, wasn't she
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: And he gets an expression on his face and she's like, yeah,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: and she possesses the same power, so she will come
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: to inherit the same name too, a terrible thing for
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: a father to hear. But ellipses she is the ancient
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: weapon Poseidon. Well, okay, why not. It's odd because, like
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: I just, I'm so used to Poseidon being a male
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: god that for it to apply to a princess feels
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: really weird. But okay, sure, who cares? Gender is not real?
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: Who whatever? So yeah, so that's the end of the episode.
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: So I'm gonna wrap this one up. But yeah, guys,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: I'm glad this arc is over because that was just
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: there were so many like little moments of brightness, but
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: the like for the most part, that was agony. That
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: was really tough to get through. I just what are
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: we doing? I really hope things pick up from here.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: Fingers crossed. Oh boy, all right, everybody, I'm gonna wrap.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: Thank you again so much for listening, and thank you
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: to Florian for being here. Appreciate you. Until next time
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: to Loo motherfuckers. That was an Unspoiled Network podcast
