- Lucas: Hei, Luna. Velkommen til episode 40 of Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. Luna: Hei, Lucas! Episode 40, wow. That feels like a big milestone. Lucas: It really is. And today we're going to learn the most important verb in Norwegian: 'å være'. It means 'to be'. Luna: Oh, 'to be'. That's so basic but so powerful. Like in English, 'I am', 'you are', 'it is'. Lucas: Exactly! And in Norwegian, 'I am' is 'jeg er'. Let's say it together: 'jeg er'. Luna: Jeg er. Lucas: Perfect. 'Jeg er'. Now, 'you are' is 'du er'. Try it. Luna: Du er. Lucas: Yes. And 'it is' is 'det er'. Say it with me. Luna: Det er. Lucas: Great. So we have 'jeg er', 'du er', 'det er'. Let's put them into simple phrases. For example, 'Jeg er glad' means 'I am happy'. Try that. Luna: Jeg er glad. Lucas: Yes! 'Jeg er glad'. Now, 'Du er snill' means 'You are kind'. Give it a go. Luna: Du er snill. Lucas: Exactly. And 'Det er fint' means 'It is nice' or 'It is fine'. Say it. Luna: Det er fint. Lucas: Perfect. Now, let's practice a little dialogue. Imagine you're at a party. Someone asks how you are. You can say 'Jeg er glad'. Luna: Okay. So if someone says 'Hvordan går det?', I can say 'Jeg er glad'? Lucas: Exactly! Or if you want to compliment someone, you can say 'Du er snill'. Luna: Oh, that's so nice. 'Du er snill'. I'll remember that. Lucas: And if you're describing the weather, you can say 'Det er fint'. Luna: Det er fint. So useful. Lucas: Let's go through all three again. Repeat after me: 'Jeg er glad'. Luna: Jeg er glad. Lucas: Du er snill. Luna: Du er snill. Lucas: Det er fint. Luna: Det er fint. Lucas: Excellent. Now, let's do a quick quiz. How do you say 'I am'? Luna: Jeg er. Lucas: And 'you are'? Luna: Du er. Lucas: And 'it is'? Luna: Det er. Lucas: Perfect. You're doing great, Luna. Now, one more thing: in Norwegian, the verb doesn't change for different subjects. 'Jeg er', 'du er', 'han er', 'hun er', 'det er' – all use 'er'. So you only need to learn one form. Luna: Oh, that's so easy. So 'han er' means 'he is'? Lucas: Exactly. But for today, let's stick with 'jeg', 'du', and 'det'. You've mastered them. Luna: I feel so accomplished. 'Jeg er glad'. Lucas: And I am happy too because you're learning so well. Let's do one final round. I'll say the English, you say the Norwegian. Luna: Okay, ready. Lucas: I am happy. Luna: Jeg er glad. Lucas: You are kind. Luna: Du er snill. Lucas: It is nice. Luna: Det er fint. Lucas: Perfect! You nailed it. That's all for today's episode. Remember to practice these phrases. Takk for at du lyttet, and join us next time for more Norwegian with Fexingo.
