Latest / Twin Cities Territory / TRADE! Twins acquire reliever A.J. Minter for two prospects
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: So much for Friday off. A late night trade as
- 0:05Speaker 1: the Twins add a reliever to their bullpen. AJ Minter
- 0:09Speaker 1: comes over from the New York Mets for two prospects
- 0:12Speaker 1: and a Thursday night deal. I was still reeling from
- 0:14Speaker 1: the Cody Clemens walk off grand slam. I was asleep out,
- 0:17Speaker 1: wake up in the morning to see the news. But
- 0:20Speaker 1: we figured we bring you a bonus show today to
- 0:22Speaker 1: talk about the trade. This is Twin City's Territory, Your
- 0:25Speaker 1: Minnesota Twins podcast here on the Foul Territory Network. Guy'm
- 0:28Speaker 1: Zach Pearce of the Athletic, joined as always by Dan Hayes,
- 0:31Speaker 1: the Minnesota Twins beat writer, and Tyler Duffy, longtime Major
- 0:35Speaker 1: leaguer and former Minnesota Twins. So who is this guy?
- 0:38Speaker 1: Let's get right into it. I spared no expense on
- 0:41Speaker 1: this graphic. Want have to show to you. AJ Minter
- 0:45Speaker 1: thirty two years old. He's a lefty. He's been in
- 0:48Speaker 1: Major League Baseball for ten seasons of fastball Cutter, changeup
- 0:51Speaker 1: mix Cutter is widely regarded as one of the better
- 0:56Speaker 1: ones in the game. He won the World Series with
- 0:58Speaker 1: the Braves in twenty twenty one. Was actually the winning
- 1:00Speaker 1: pitcher in Game one of that series. Charlie Morton started
- 1:04Speaker 1: it and got hurt, but he came in in relief
- 1:08Speaker 1: of Morton and got the victory. He has a three
- 1:11Speaker 1: point one eight ERA in three hundred and eighty two
- 1:14Speaker 1: and two thirds innings across his career. This season a
- 1:17Speaker 1: two point three to five e and twenty three innings
- 1:19Speaker 1: pitch if you break that down, he was pretty much
- 1:22Speaker 1: perfect over the first fourteen innings of this season and
- 1:24Speaker 1: has given up six runs in his last nine. The
- 1:27Speaker 1: risk with him the injury history. He's spent time each
- 1:30Speaker 1: of the past three seasons with hip and lat injuries,
- 1:35Speaker 1: so missed a lot of time. He actually just came back,
- 1:38Speaker 1: I believe, in late May of this year, but has
- 1:41Speaker 1: been back to his usual self. It looks like since then. Obviously, Dan,
- 1:44Speaker 1: it seems like the Twins were not concerned enough about
- 1:47Speaker 1: that to not go for it.
- 1:50Speaker 2: They definitely saw a guy they liked.
- 1:53Speaker 3: And it's funny you say the Latin history because you
- 1:57Speaker 3: can look at aj Minter as a replacement for Anthony Bonda,
- 2:00Speaker 3: who is on the il and out for the season
- 2:02Speaker 3: because of a lad injury and surgery. So they knew
- 2:06Speaker 3: that they were gonna need to replace him eventually, and
- 2:08Speaker 3: Anthony Bonda had turned that corner and really between he
- 2:12Speaker 3: and Joandras Gomez and Andrew Morris, they had found something
- 2:17Speaker 3: with that trio and the ability to close out games,
- 2:20Speaker 3: and so they've.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Been looking for a month.
- 2:22Speaker 3: It's it's funny because the Twins have had their best
- 2:25Speaker 3: month as a bullpen of the season in July since
- 2:28Speaker 3: Bond has been down. After yesterday's three scoreless from Kendrick Rojas,
- 2:32Speaker 3: they're at a three ERA and eighty four innings for
- 2:35Speaker 3: the month. But you also know Andrew Morris, who by
- 2:38Speaker 3: the way, has a zero four to one ERA since
- 2:41Speaker 3: June twelfth and twenty two innings and Joandras Gomez with
- 2:45Speaker 3: the one seventy two ERA over the season with the
- 2:47Speaker 3: Twins and twelve saves and twelve tries. You know, like
- 2:49Speaker 3: those guys, there's gonna be probably a little regression. You
- 2:52Speaker 3: need more depth. You need to keep adding to this
- 2:55Speaker 3: bullpen and give Derek Shelton more options also so he
- 2:58Speaker 3: just doesn't.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Wear out Morris and Gomez.
- 3:01Speaker 3: When if the Twins play three good games in a
- 3:04Speaker 3: row and need to use the bullpen all three games,
- 3:07Speaker 3: like three tight games. You want options, so I think
- 3:10Speaker 3: they identified very early. They need to get more bullpen options.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Jeremy z Old talked about that on Tuesday when he
- 3:17Speaker 3: told us they were gonna be buyers. He said they
- 3:19Speaker 3: wanted to be aggressive, that they'd been putting this plan
- 3:21Speaker 3: together all along, and that they were not looking just
- 3:25Speaker 3: because they had gotten back to five hundred to be
- 3:29Speaker 3: opportunitists to come buy, but they really didn't want to sell.
- 3:32Speaker 3: They were not really looking to be in that position ever,
- 3:35Speaker 3: and so they wanted to proceed forward. They did a good, quick,
- 3:38Speaker 3: early move. You know, Zach off Air, you were saying
- 3:42Speaker 3: to me, this feels like a good safe move.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I agree.
- 3:45Speaker 3: It's also a little strange because the Twins absorbed three
- 3:48Speaker 3: point three million mentors, making eleven million dollars this year.
- 3:51Speaker 2: If Mintard started the.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Year with the Twins, that would be the highest money
- 3:55Speaker 3: that they paid in an individual season to a relief
- 3:58Speaker 3: pitcher since Joe Nathan nine ten and eleven, So mintor
- 4:02Speaker 3: eleven million dollars is up there. They don't usually do this,
- 4:05Speaker 3: and for them to absorb all three point three million
- 4:08Speaker 3: dollars of his remaining salary typically over the years we've
- 4:13Speaker 3: seen the Twins go out and pay up in the
- 4:16Speaker 3: prospect cost versus giving money, and Tom poul At has
- 4:21Speaker 3: said they're going to have the resources. This is a
- 4:24Speaker 3: good shot at This is a good demonstration of backing
- 4:27Speaker 3: that early.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I know it's only three million dollars, but that's that's
- 4:30Speaker 2: just something they didn't do.
- 4:31Speaker 3: And if they'd had three million dollars to add players
- 4:34Speaker 3: in twenty twenty four, it might have looked a little
- 4:36Speaker 3: different than it did because you know, you're just they look,
- 4:40Speaker 3: who are the prospects. They give up the number twenty
- 4:42Speaker 3: one and their twenty nine prospects, and then you have
- 4:44Speaker 3: a graphic and you throw that in a second, Zach.
- 4:45Speaker 2: But I mean, like you didn't pay through the roof here.
- 4:49Speaker 3: And it leaves you with some room now, like you
- 4:51Speaker 3: still have a good farm system to draw from to
- 4:54Speaker 3: go out and get another reliever, to get, you know,
- 4:57Speaker 3: whatever they want to do, get a starting pitcher. They
- 5:00Speaker 3: didn't dig into the heavy hitters as far as the
- 5:03Speaker 3: prospects go. And I think if you were looking for
- 5:05Speaker 3: a cost controlled player, I'm sorry, a team controlled player
- 5:09Speaker 3: for multiple years, that's got to cost you some good prospects.
- 5:13Speaker 3: They haven't gone at the top end of their farm system.
- 5:16Speaker 3: That's a good starting point.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Yeah, let's get to Tyler went sideways. Now he's back.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Let's get to what they gave up here real quick,
- 5:24Speaker 1: and then we'll get to Tyler's thoughts. Billy A. McK
- 5:28Speaker 1: and Bruin Agbayani. Yes, that is Benny Agbayani's son, so
- 5:32Speaker 1: Mets fans will be happy about that. Amik a twenty
- 5:35Speaker 1: three year old. He was at double A Wichita this season,
- 5:38Speaker 1: as Dan mentioned, ranked number twenty one in the MLB
- 5:41Speaker 1: Prospect rankings that's for the Twins team and number nineteen
- 5:45Speaker 1: on the athletic He was hitting two seventeen with twenty
- 5:48Speaker 1: three homers in eighty six games for the win Surge,
- 5:52Speaker 1: and Bruin Agbayani was at single A Fort Myers, number
- 5:55Speaker 1: twenty nine on MLB's list. He wasn't in the top
- 5:57Speaker 1: twenty of the athletics rankings. That's as deep as they go,
- 6:00Speaker 1: and hit two sixty eight and ten games for the
- 6:03Speaker 1: Mighty Muscles this season. Had some injury issues himself, so
- 6:07Speaker 1: those two on the way out. My first takeaway from that, guys,
- 6:10Speaker 1: is that sometimes I forget how good the Twins' minor
- 6:15Speaker 1: league team names are just great Win Surge and Mighty Muscles.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Having some issues there with Tyler, we hopefully we'll get
- 6:22Speaker 1: him back soon. But yeah, it's I call it a
- 6:27Speaker 1: safe move, Dan, I think it's just my question is
- 6:31Speaker 1: how many safe moves are there to make before you
- 6:33Speaker 1: start giving up more? Approximately, We've talked about this a
- 6:37Speaker 1: lot like the because the Twins came out and have
- 6:42Speaker 1: said we want to invest in this team, we want
- 6:43Speaker 1: to buy, we want to we want to add to it.
- 6:47Speaker 1: They have put themselves in a position to back that up.
- 6:49Speaker 1: But also the team has looked unconvincing at times inspiring
- 6:53Speaker 1: in others. Yesterday's game was a perfect example of that,
- 6:57Speaker 1: just a complete dud for eight and a half innings
- 6:59Speaker 1: until Cody Clemens's dramatic walk off. So it's an interesting
- 7:03Speaker 1: meal for them to thread. We have we have seen
- 7:06Speaker 1: comments here. I'll put myself on the spot. I never
- 7:08Speaker 1: do that, So there we go, single shot at me.
- 7:12Speaker 1: We had we had some comments a couple of shows
- 7:13Speaker 1: ago about you know, is it a little maddening to
- 7:17Speaker 1: watch the team that had a year ago torn apart
- 7:20Speaker 1: at the bullpen by selling everybody off? Now spending prospects
- 7:23Speaker 1: to rebuild the bullpen. And you know, if the ownership
- 7:26Speaker 1: group was completely different, I think you could shake that
- 7:29Speaker 1: off pretty easily and say, you know, it's a new
- 7:32Speaker 1: it's a new direction, it's a new strategy. The fact
- 7:35Speaker 1: that it's just a new controlling owner and he has
- 7:37Speaker 1: the same last name as the previous one is a
- 7:40Speaker 1: little it's a little harder for people to to stomach that,
- 7:44Speaker 1: and it definitely is. It definitely raises questions to me
- 7:48Speaker 1: about how how far you should go down this road
- 7:52Speaker 1: to sell Tyler still doesn't have it. He's trying. Folks
- 7:54Speaker 1: will hopefully give him. We'll take another break from Tyler.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Uh.
- 7:59Speaker 1: It definitely raises questions about how far you should go
- 8:01Speaker 1: with this in my mind, but the twins say so
- 8:04Speaker 1: far that they're not done yet.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Yeah, they absolutely want to keep moving. They would like
- 8:09Speaker 3: to build the bullpen out some more. And here's the
- 8:12Speaker 3: thing we talked about the every day. We've talked about
- 8:14Speaker 3: a couple times because of you, Anders Gomanz, because of
- 8:16Speaker 3: Andrew Morris, you don't need to be looking for the
- 8:19Speaker 3: fireball er ninth in and guy and you can go
- 8:22Speaker 3: and just get a really solid reliever.
- 8:25Speaker 2: It's going to cost you a lot.
- 8:26Speaker 3: I mean, look, I think Mintor's injury injury history probably
- 8:31Speaker 3: brought his price down a little bit, like if he'd
- 8:33Speaker 3: been healthy and going it on full cylinders. But you know,
- 8:38Speaker 3: we've seen he's come back and he's got good numbers
- 8:40Speaker 3: after a thirteen month layoffs.
- 8:42Speaker 2: So but like you wonder, had that guy never gotten injured,
- 8:46Speaker 2: what's his price tag? Right?
- 8:49Speaker 3: Basically, I think they will go a little bit harder
- 8:53Speaker 3: and add something more. Look, they're happy with Tommy nance
- 8:58Speaker 3: so far. He's got three holes in a six game.
- 9:00Speaker 3: He's got to eighty four era, even though it's been
- 9:02Speaker 3: a little scary and dicey, and at Wrigley Field, you
- 9:06Speaker 3: throw in Mintor, who can face guys on both sides
- 9:09Speaker 3: of the play. He has success against Righty's two. That's
- 9:13Speaker 3: a good ad, But you just want to keep giving
- 9:15Speaker 3: Derek Shelton options. Fortunately for them, it doesn't look like
- 9:19Speaker 3: they need to do the Mason Miller type ad. They
- 9:21Speaker 3: can go out and get a Tyler Duffy and get
- 9:25Speaker 3: a solid guy. They a two to five e ur
- 9:28Speaker 3: a guy kind of guy that strikes out people and
- 9:31Speaker 3: throw him in and just get the seventh to eighth
- 9:34Speaker 3: inning type, and again that will still cost you a lot,
- 9:37Speaker 3: but it doesn't cost you the same price.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I think Reliever, it's probably one.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Of the easiest areas to add because there's so many
- 9:43Speaker 3: guys out there across the league and you're just adding
- 9:48Speaker 3: onto this bullpen that's got that three era a over
- 9:50Speaker 3: the last month and really has stabilized after being just
- 9:54Speaker 3: such a huge question mark early in the year. And
- 9:57Speaker 3: if you do that, yeah, I think the place where
- 9:59Speaker 3: you maybe take your shot, if you're looking to go
- 10:02Speaker 3: really big, would be maybe adding a team controlled starting
- 10:06Speaker 3: pitcher and looking to do something there like I don't
- 10:10Speaker 3: I don't know that. I think the market's gonna be
- 10:12Speaker 3: heavy for him. But man re Debtmers would look good
- 10:15Speaker 3: in the Twins uniform for two plus seasons. Strikes out
- 10:19Speaker 3: a lot of guys you know, would benefit from, you know, a.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Change of scenery, just getting out of that place.
- 10:26Speaker 3: And Anaheim or Los Angeles has been on tough times
- 10:31Speaker 3: for about, I don't know forever right now, so I
- 10:35Speaker 3: just think we're going to see them be aggressive.
- 10:37Speaker 2: They set it, they want to back it up.
- 10:40Speaker 3: You're right, Zach, this is the same owner they want
- 10:43Speaker 3: to show that they're a different ownership group they have.
- 10:46Speaker 3: The only way you can do that is prove it repeatedly.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Just keep proving your haters wrong. Essentially, that's what you
- 10:53Speaker 3: got to do. And I think they understand that. And
- 10:55Speaker 3: so it makes these next three days very interesting because
- 10:58Speaker 3: I don't think they would have ever made a trade
- 11:00Speaker 3: like this, taking on a veteran rental and absorbing cash before.
- 11:05Speaker 3: So that just throws a lot of their history out
- 11:08Speaker 3: the window already, before.
- 11:10Speaker 1: We lose Tyler again, he's back. Let's get his, Let's
- 11:12Speaker 1: get his Let's get his thoughts. Tyler obviously, just your
- 11:17Speaker 1: thoughts on the move in general, and I'm guessing you're
- 11:19Speaker 1: at least a little familiar with the player. Your careers
- 11:21Speaker 1: overlapped a bit.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a stabilizing move, which is kind of what
- 11:26Speaker 4: we've been talking about. It's just it doesn't have to
- 11:28Speaker 4: be this huge blockbuster trade. It's a guy who's had
- 11:32Speaker 4: a sub three e RA for most of his career.
- 11:34Speaker 4: I think his career was a three to one, like
- 11:36Speaker 4: he's had sub twos at times. He's a lefty, which
- 11:40Speaker 4: is always great to have, you know. It's one of
- 11:42Speaker 4: those things you can never have enough sometimes and it's
- 11:45Speaker 4: a dependable guy.
- 11:46Speaker 2: It's one two.
- 11:46Speaker 4: We're hitting on his injury history sometimes that lad injury
- 11:50Speaker 4: may have been caused by the hip, you know, compensation,
- 11:53Speaker 4: things like that. At this point, I would be willing
- 11:56Speaker 4: to say he's got those things ironed out. He's probably
- 11:58Speaker 4: in a great spot physically. You know, his workload hasn't
- 12:01Speaker 4: been huge this year. He's he's probably ready to make
- 12:05Speaker 4: a run. And to Dan's point, you know, the taking
- 12:07Speaker 4: on some money then they it's still only three million dollars.
- 12:11Speaker 4: You know, he comped it to Joe Nathan was the
- 12:13Speaker 4: last one to be close to that number for a
- 12:15Speaker 4: full season's worth of value. And that's that's refreshing because
- 12:19Speaker 4: it's like instead of going out to get a guy
- 12:21Speaker 4: that might work or whatever, it's it's a guy that
- 12:23Speaker 4: you know, is a dependable reliever.
- 12:25Speaker 5: He's been in the playoffs, he's done all the things,
- 12:28Speaker 5: and I.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Think he's a guy he's he's not the big personality,
- 12:31Speaker 4: the crazy. He's not going to change things up in
- 12:33Speaker 4: that locker room. He's going to show up. He's a
- 12:35Speaker 4: good old Texas boy. He's going to do his job.
- 12:37Speaker 4: He's going to show up ready to work, and there's
- 12:40Speaker 4: something to be said for that. It's I know, they
- 12:41Speaker 4: did their homework before they got him, you know, jay
- 12:43Speaker 4: Z or whoever else it would have been. You know,
- 12:46Speaker 4: it's it feels like a great move and a great
- 12:48Speaker 4: first step, you know, And have him ready to rock
- 12:51Speaker 4: tonight in Seattle hopefully, and put him to work quick
- 12:54Speaker 4: because uh, you know, these next few mean a lot too.
- 12:58Speaker 1: They do, indeed, And this part part of the complication
- 13:02Speaker 1: of all this is even though the twins are so flawed,
- 13:07Speaker 1: they're they're inspiring and feisty. I guess because they were
- 13:10Speaker 1: they were not supposed to be this good. And if
- 13:12Speaker 1: you like, we have talked about this as well. But
- 13:15Speaker 1: if they can just push it a little bit, if
- 13:18Speaker 1: they can be like five games over five hundred the
- 13:20Speaker 1: rest of the way, yep, they could be in the playoffs.
- 13:23Speaker 1: And and I mean, who besides Tampa and A and
- 13:26Speaker 1: a healthy Yankees are you are you terrified of in
- 13:29Speaker 1: this American league? Like, it's not outlandish to think that
- 13:32Speaker 1: a couple of improvements along this of this caliber could
- 13:35Speaker 1: be the difference between missing the playoffs or or you know,
- 13:38Speaker 1: one and done, or making a little bit of a
- 13:40Speaker 1: run at least I think Dan right.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Look, and all I think is important is again pushing in.
- 13:49Speaker 3: It doesn't even have to be huge, but you need
- 13:52Speaker 3: to show your fans commitment. That's a huge step because
- 13:55Speaker 3: the only way they're ever going to get where they
- 13:57Speaker 3: want to go and where fans really care about this
- 14:00Speaker 3: team is by bringing fans back like and it's through
- 14:04Speaker 3: being aggressive, and it's adding payroll, and it's I just
- 14:08Speaker 3: go back to Tom pull Adway said July ten, twenty
- 14:11Speaker 3: had us all do a media breakfast with him, and
- 14:13Speaker 3: he said, I went about.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Asking, Hey, your business.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Your numbers are down again this year, and this sounds good,
- 14:21Speaker 3: but you're talking about you're talking big, your go big
- 14:24Speaker 3: or go home kind of attitude here, and what happens
- 14:28Speaker 3: if the business continues to fail? How much does that
- 14:31Speaker 3: change your plans? And he said, you can't do it
- 14:33Speaker 3: that way. You can't think of it that way. And
- 14:35Speaker 3: he said, essentially, the thirty million dollar payroll cut after
- 14:40Speaker 3: the twenty three season was probably a little bit short
- 14:42Speaker 3: sighted because yes, it saved them money in the short term,
- 14:44Speaker 3: but long term, what did that cost them?
- 14:46Speaker 2: And I think they realized, he said.
- 14:48Speaker 3: It, they are in a build it and they will
- 14:50Speaker 3: come situation. It's not a wait for the fans. It's
- 14:54Speaker 3: not the chicken before the egg, you got it. Like
- 14:57Speaker 3: they have to build and I think that going to
- 15:00Speaker 3: drive them throughout this and it's it's important that that's
- 15:03Speaker 3: shown because this was the first chance I think where
- 15:06Speaker 3: Tom Pold can show that and they're.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Taking it seriously so far.
- 15:12Speaker 4: Tyler, Yeah, to that point, it's one those season ticket numbers.
- 15:17Speaker 4: You know, this is probably a little of the insight info,
- 15:19Speaker 4: but like those are the numbers they take into the
- 15:21Speaker 4: next year's payroll, you know, considerations. So when they know,
- 15:25Speaker 4: all right, we got at least as many people come
- 15:27Speaker 4: into games, this many tickets sold, that allows you to
- 15:30Speaker 4: go spend and to that point, sometimes you got to
- 15:34Speaker 4: get the fend in fire a little bit, do something
- 15:37Speaker 4: to make them think, Okay, this is gonna be worth
- 15:39Speaker 4: going to watch next year. We're not going to suffer
- 15:41Speaker 4: through twenty degrees and one hundred losses, like we're gonna
- 15:44Speaker 4: be watching a contender from day one and not saying
- 15:48Speaker 4: adding mentor today is that, But it's it's a glimmer
- 15:52Speaker 4: of like, Okay, this is what could.
- 15:54Speaker 5: Be coming down the pike. You know, and spending a
- 15:56Speaker 5: little bit more.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Now, maybe hey, who's this a heat have a great
- 16:00Speaker 4: time and wants to stay there and comes back on
- 16:02Speaker 4: a deal.
- 16:03Speaker 5: You know, it's you're setting up a foundation.
- 16:05Speaker 4: You've got a lot of players that you'll be able
- 16:06Speaker 4: to retain, you know, so you're gonna lose some things
- 16:09Speaker 4: like that, but it's it's a great place to play.
- 16:11Speaker 4: You might as well start trying to get guys in
- 16:13Speaker 4: there and get the fans fired up, because when that
- 16:15Speaker 4: place is full, it's a great place to play, that
- 16:18Speaker 4: whole centrally. It's it's one of those you know, Dan's
- 16:20Speaker 4: been in Chicago, It's you don't hear about it a ton,
- 16:23Speaker 4: but when playoffs show up in these cities, especially places
- 16:26Speaker 4: where they haven't been in a while, it's it's exciting
- 16:28Speaker 4: because it's fans are grasping for anything, and and you
- 16:31Speaker 4: get people fired up, they're going to be out of
- 16:33Speaker 4: these games. They're gonna get loud. You know, you're not
- 16:35Speaker 4: even gonna have to tell them to clap on the scoreboard.
- 16:37Speaker 4: It's just gonna happen naturally, and it's it makes for
- 16:40Speaker 4: exciting baseball. You know, I'm still I'm still fired up
- 16:43Speaker 4: from that homer yesterday. I don't know about y'all, but
- 16:45Speaker 4: that was that's still I can't get enough of that's hey.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Wait, okay, the stat by the time we went on
- 16:52Speaker 3: air was the stat there that there have been, and
- 16:55Speaker 3: it's been upgraded it him and Ruth. But also, okay,
- 17:04Speaker 3: in Major League history, there have been sixteen previous times
- 17:08Speaker 3: where a team was down by three runs and it
- 17:11Speaker 3: hit a walk off Grand Slam.
- 17:12Speaker 2: That's rare than a perfect game.
- 17:14Speaker 3: I think MLB dot com called it the ultimate Grand Slam.
- 17:19Speaker 2: So sixteen times in history.
- 17:22Speaker 3: And when you think about it, oh two counts to
- 17:25Speaker 3: each of the last three guys. Yeah, Josh Royce Boss
- 17:30Speaker 3: two worked it singled up the middle and Josh bell
- 17:34Speaker 3: O two took four straight balls.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Cody Clemens O two. Tristan Gray calls the hanging slider
- 17:40Speaker 2: the man. Did you guys see the video? Did you
- 17:42Speaker 2: see the center field camera video from it? By the way,
- 17:45Speaker 2: I yeah, but his bat flip, oh yea yeah.
- 17:52Speaker 3: That's like a high jump champion batflip, Like it was
- 17:56Speaker 3: up there so like.
- 17:58Speaker 2: He could probably clear six.
- 18:00Speaker 4: You hit that one, you do whatever the hell you want.
- 18:03Speaker 4: I don't know if you just take your clothes off
- 18:05Speaker 4: and run around the bases.
- 18:06Speaker 2: That's you earned that one.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Uh the the Babe Ruth stat that Tyler just referenced.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I was trying to get it up on the screen,
- 18:15Speaker 1: but oh well, uh there there are now two players.
- 18:19Speaker 1: We've given it away already by saying the name, but
- 18:20Speaker 1: there are now two players an MLB history that ever
- 18:23Speaker 1: have guessed that player recorded a strikeout on the mound,
- 18:27Speaker 1: hit three homers in a game, and hit a walk
- 18:29Speaker 1: off Gran s lamb. It's it's Babe Ruth and Cody Clemens.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Pretty incredible. When did he get a strikeout on the
- 18:33Speaker 1: do it all at once?
- 18:35Speaker 2: He strut he gotta, he would argue.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Yeah, the the actual, the modern day baby behind.
- 18:47Speaker 2: That is yeah.
- 18:48Speaker 3: No, he got the ball sign and after the game too,
- 18:51Speaker 3: because this is his first strikeout, which by the way,
- 18:54Speaker 3: made him eligible. He and his father have the most
- 18:58Speaker 3: father son strikeout in Major League history ever, ever, ever, ever, Well,
- 19:08Speaker 3: we'll see what happens this weekend.
- 19:09Speaker 1: It's bound to be busy. We might be back with
- 19:12Speaker 1: you again. But that is exactly the kind of trade
- 19:14Speaker 1: I was picturing when I predicted that they weren't going
- 19:17Speaker 1: to tinker with the major league roster right, and it's like, yeah,
- 19:20Speaker 1: you don't break the chemistry. You also don't mortgage the future.
- 19:23Speaker 1: But how many picks do they have to give away?
- 19:26Speaker 1: How many more ads will they have? We'll see dan
- 19:29Speaker 1: Is in Seattle. It's the last series before the deadline,
- 19:32Speaker 1: big one too. Mariners in the wildcard mix as well,
- 19:34Speaker 1: along with the Twins. We kind of rushed through it yesterday.
- 19:37Speaker 1: So just a quick recap nine ten tonight, Zebbie Matthews
- 19:41Speaker 1: against who do we have? Bryce Miller for the Mariners?
- 19:45Speaker 1: And then it is a lot of fastballs, a lot
- 19:48Speaker 1: of fastballs. Connor pre Lip excuse me against Logan Gilbert
- 19:54Speaker 1: on Saturday. That's an afternoon game at three ten, and
- 19:57Speaker 1: then TODJ. Bradley and George Kirby on Sunday. Good news
- 20:00Speaker 1: they're all right handers first. Yeah, so we get a
- 20:03Speaker 1: break from the lefties for a little while. But we
- 20:06Speaker 1: will be back with you soon, either when there's another
- 20:09Speaker 1: big trade or on Monday, whatever comes first. If you
