Maryland is reeling from a deadly heatwave, with 50 heat-related deaths already this year — breaking the previous record set in 2012. Most of those fatalities — 43 — occurred in July alone, and the season isn’t over yet. Since 2022, heat deaths have surged from just five to now over fifty, with seniors especially vulnerable (62% of victims were age 65+), including at least one young child.
