- 0:00Speaker 1: Back on the Yukon Football Coaches Show. No, I'm not
- 0:02Speaker 1: Mike Crispino. I'm Bob Joyce. As we record the player
- 0:05Speaker 1: interviews on Monday, and Mike's a little tied up on
- 0:08Speaker 1: this Monday, so I'm handling the player interviews and our
- 0:10Speaker 1: first one is with a young man who was on
- 0:12Speaker 1: the pregame show last week.
- 0:14Speaker 2: With that, I'm Jeredino.
- 0:15Speaker 1: That would be Lee Malet, the third Brentwood, Tennessee. He's
- 0:18Speaker 1: a senior and he has been down the road the
- 0:22Speaker 1: entire time as a Yukon Husky. I asked this of
- 0:25Speaker 1: a lot of student athletes. You know, when you get
- 0:27Speaker 1: here as a freshman four years, that's a long time.
- 0:30Speaker 1: It goes fast, doesn't it.
- 0:32Speaker 3: It goes but really fast.
- 0:34Speaker 2: What's it feel like now that you're a senior.
- 0:38Speaker 4: I mean, he's going by so fast, Like I feel
- 0:41Speaker 4: like I'm a whole different person from when I came
- 0:44Speaker 4: in and I'm going with like a lot of the
- 0:47Speaker 4: people that I came in here with that is still here.
- 0:50Speaker 4: Like we talked about it a lot, how fast Like
- 0:53Speaker 4: it seems like it was like a few months ago.
- 0:56Speaker 3: We just got here and we got a lot of
- 1:00Speaker 3: memories together.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Yeah, you've had a lot of fun together too, watching
- 1:03Speaker 1: this program. Developed thirty two tackles on the season. You
- 1:07Speaker 1: had seven Saturday at Boston College, and I know one
- 1:10Speaker 1: of the things that you talked with ad him about
- 1:12Speaker 1: was you watched the BC Clemson game on television just
- 1:16Speaker 1: to get a different perspective. Now, I know there was
- 1:18Speaker 1: a quarterback change, but still did it? Did it help
- 1:21Speaker 1: you I mentally and what you did on Saturday?
- 1:24Speaker 3: Yeah, it helped. It helped a solid amount.
- 1:27Speaker 4: I had uh uh my freshman year at waitin my
- 1:31Speaker 4: freshman year. On our sophomore year, we actually played the
- 1:34Speaker 4: quarterback at BC.
- 1:36Speaker 3: He was at FIU. Right, it helped a good amount.
- 1:41Speaker 4: I probably should have in the game keyed into a
- 1:43Speaker 4: little bit more because it was a play where I
- 1:45Speaker 4: definitely expected a route that was coming and I just didn't.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I didn't trust myself on it. But it helped a
- 1:51Speaker 3: good amount.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Okay, Uh.
- 1:53Speaker 1: For those who have been around these parts a while,
- 1:56Speaker 1: I mean I've been covering this team since two thousand
- 1:58Speaker 1: one at Boston College is a really big deal.
- 2:01Speaker 2: What was a locker room like after the game?
- 2:03Speaker 3: Oh, it was, it was.
- 2:04Speaker 4: It was good excitement. Get excitement, but also we expected
- 2:08Speaker 4: to win that game. We came in and knowing that
- 2:10Speaker 4: there was that we would be able to get the
- 2:12Speaker 4: job done as long as we bought into it as
- 2:15Speaker 4: a defense, as special teams, as offense, as a team
- 2:18Speaker 4: really and we bought into that the fact that we'll
- 2:21Speaker 4: be able to go in there, win the game and
- 2:22Speaker 4: win the game confidently.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Well, you were down twenty to seventeen and a half
- 2:26Speaker 1: thanks to a fifty yard touchdown pass to Reed Harris.
- 2:30Speaker 2: What were the coaches?
- 2:30Speaker 1: What was the coach's demeanor, whether it be coach Moore
- 2:33Speaker 1: or your defensive coordinator, what was their demeanor like going
- 2:37Speaker 1: into the locker room and coming out for the third quarter.
- 2:41Speaker 4: I mean, obviously, you know, giving up a touchdown, coaches
- 2:43Speaker 4: aren't going to be very too too happy about it,
- 2:46Speaker 4: but they never lost faith in the fact that we
- 2:49Speaker 4: were going to go win the game.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Like we don't have we don't have soft coaches that.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Are like gonna baby us or like they're like they
- 2:56Speaker 4: built tough skinning around here with us. So they know
- 2:59Speaker 4: that they can say like they can coach and we
- 3:01Speaker 4: won't take it any type of personally take it any
- 3:04Speaker 4: way demeaning so they obviously were very adamant about getting
- 3:10Speaker 4: that fixed going into the second half.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Twenty one to three in the second half and the
- 3:14Speaker 1: defense ends up with seven sacks last couple of games.
- 3:19Speaker 1: It seems like that this whole group that he had
- 3:22Speaker 1: a lot of new guys and for you two a
- 3:24Speaker 1: new role, have really started to get comfortable.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Would that be the case?
- 3:28Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I would say we definitely get comfortable because obviously,
- 3:31Speaker 4: you know I was here last years. There's a lot
- 3:34Speaker 4: of new people, a lot of new people that are
- 3:36Speaker 4: on the defense. So being able to build that chemistry,
- 3:40Speaker 4: build that trust, uh, because obviously he's not going to
- 3:42Speaker 4: come fast, but a lot of people come from different places,
- 3:45Speaker 4: different backgrounds, So us being able to play a few
- 3:48Speaker 4: games together, get that chemistry, get that bar, and that
- 3:50Speaker 4: trust is definitely looking towards just paying off.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Now, regardless of your role, you are the old guy
- 3:57Speaker 1: in this secondary or one of the old guys in
- 3:59Speaker 1: the secondary, how's your leadership skills? What what do guys
- 4:02Speaker 1: lean on to you for as a senior? Uh?
- 4:06Speaker 4: They little me towards communication on the field and off
- 4:10Speaker 4: the field. They I feel like a lot of guys
- 4:13Speaker 4: they trust me to do you know, do my job
- 4:15Speaker 4: and also be able to help them whenever they need
- 4:17Speaker 4: me to. You know, if it's me not on the field,
- 4:20Speaker 4: being able to communicate from me on the side or
- 4:22Speaker 4: me on the field.
- 4:23Speaker 3: They trust me to be a leader vocally and on
- 4:27Speaker 3: the field.
- 4:27Speaker 1: I played a few more minutes with Lima let the
- 4:29Speaker 1: third here in the Yukon Football Coaches Show Your Position.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Coach is one of Coach Moore's old players, Dalton Hilliard.
- 4:35Speaker 1: What's your relationship like with him?
- 4:37Speaker 3: It's been It's been great.
- 4:38Speaker 4: I've known him, uh before he actually got to Yukon,
- 4:41Speaker 4: before before they all got here, he had recruited me
- 4:44Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 4:45Speaker 3: But it's been a good relationship.
- 4:47Speaker 4: But been five four or five years now that i've
- 4:50Speaker 4: known him, so we've built a great relationship. He trusts me,
- 4:53Speaker 4: so you know, go do my job, and he's he's
- 4:56Speaker 4: had my back through a lot of stuff, so I
- 4:59Speaker 4: trust coach.
- 4:59Speaker 1: He leave This offense of the Yukon Huskies is on fire.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Joe Finnano has been nothing short of for Finnano has
- 5:07Speaker 1: been nothing short of phenomenal. Almost nineteen hundred yards passing,
- 5:11Speaker 1: fifteen touchdown passes, no interceptions. What's it like to see
- 5:15Speaker 1: these guys in practice every day.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Oh, that's great, honestly, because like obviously we practice again,
- 5:22Speaker 4: We've been practicing against this offense for a while now, so,
- 5:24Speaker 4: like I've seen a lot of the players that they
- 5:27Speaker 4: run in the game, and they they built a lot
- 5:31Speaker 4: of good chemistry together, Joe and Scotland and the rest
- 5:33Speaker 4: of the receivers and you know, obviously Cam and the
- 5:36Speaker 4: whole line of running backs. They're they're getting going and
- 5:38Speaker 4: moving the ball officially, like really officially every every drive.
- 5:43Speaker 4: So you know, if they trust, like we all got
- 5:45Speaker 4: to trust offense and defense especial seams that would work
- 5:49Speaker 4: cohesively together.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Yeah, complimentary football. Who's the biggest trash talker of the
- 5:53Speaker 1: wide receivers to you guys.
- 5:57Speaker 4: I'll probably say Scotland Skylar gonna talk always. You know,
- 5:59Speaker 4: he's not he's not he's not winning the sideways. He
- 6:02Speaker 4: gonna always talk.
- 6:03Speaker 3: All right.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Brentwood, Tennessee, you played basketball in high school as well. Now,
- 6:09Speaker 1: is there a payoff? Do you sense a payoff because
- 6:11Speaker 1: you play a different sport in football what you did
- 6:13Speaker 1: in basketball, because some of the motions are the same.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Yeah, athleticism, Yeah, athleticism wise, you know, and also being
- 6:20Speaker 4: in shape because you know, basketball is a tempo game,
- 6:23Speaker 4: so you know you're running a lot.
- 6:24Speaker 3: And then also like you know, going up and getting
- 6:27Speaker 3: the ball, rebounds, all that.
- 6:28Speaker 4: Type of stuff. Lateral quickness. I find that all plays
- 6:31Speaker 4: a part in football.
- 6:32Speaker 2: All right, Finally, who's your NFL team?
- 6:35Speaker 3: I'm a Cowboys fan.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I know I say that because Bill and
- 6:41Speaker 1: I are. I won't even Yeah, we're giant fans and
- 6:43Speaker 1: we've suffered so much and Sunday was no better.
- 6:46Speaker 3: But yeah, that was crazy. That was that was wild. Yeah,
- 6:50Speaker 3: Jackson Dargley promising though.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Yeah, he's fine. Look, they're not boring, that's for sure.
- 6:54Speaker 1: They're not boring at all, for sure. Hayley, thanks for
- 6:57Speaker 1: a few minutes. Best of luck against Rice this weekend.
- 7:00Speaker 2: All right.
