- 3:04Speaker 2: probably there's so much going on in my head, so
- 3:08Speaker 2: much to talk about. I don't know where to begin.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Rex is not in this morning. He is a little
- 3:19Speaker 2: under the weather, but he will be in and he
- 3:25Speaker 2: has a lot to say, and so do I, and
- 3:29Speaker 2: we'll get to it. Speaking of Rex and Barcelow Construction.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Look at this.
- 3:58Speaker 3: How's the good?
- 4:01Speaker 2: I love it. They just put that commercial together so cool.
- 4:07Speaker 2: They are so busy right now doing indoor stuff and
- 4:10Speaker 2: well frankly outdoor stuff too, because they don't they don't
- 4:12Speaker 2: stop during the winter. I, being the dumb ass that
- 4:16Speaker 2: I am, would think that we're not out doing things
- 4:20Speaker 2: like roofing and stuff like that during the winter months.
- 4:24Speaker 2: But not Barslow Construction. They're out there doing whatever you
- 4:28Speaker 2: need to do. Good morning, everybody, listen. I want to
- 4:32Speaker 2: say this. I hope you're doing all right. I hope

- 5:01Speaker 2: old saff here, but it is so nice to begin
- 5:06Speaker 2: my day connecting with you guys, and I appreciate it.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I want to say this. There's been, as I said,
- 5:17Speaker 2: I've been saying this on the air now for about
- 5:20Speaker 2: a maybe a week, maybe a little bit longer, that
- 5:24Speaker 2: there's a sense of heaviness in the air in some respects,
- 5:31Speaker 2: in some regard with just and maybe it's just that
- 5:36Speaker 2: time of year. We're busy, we got a lot of
- 5:38Speaker 2: stuff going on. We're running around pulling our hair out.
- 5:42Speaker 2: How are we going to do this? How we're gonna
- 5:43Speaker 2: do that? We got to get it all in and man,
- 5:45Speaker 2: it's like some of us are getting a little short,
- 5:50Speaker 2: a little a little hot under the collar at times. Please, folks,

- 9:51Speaker 2: what in the hell is jeap miss, here's Samantha pay
- 9:53Speaker 2: At with us. Good morning, Samantha, Good morning.
- 9:56Speaker 3: How are you.
- 9:57Speaker 2: I'm doing well? Listen, this is this, This is something
- 10:00Speaker 2: that you're kind of the brainchild of am.
- 10:03Speaker 3: I right well, yeah, all right.
- 10:06Speaker 2: So I know that you and Travis and so many
- 10:10Speaker 2: others are big jeep fans. Yes, what was it that
- 10:15Speaker 2: made and and people? They decorate their their jeeps everywhere
- 10:20Speaker 2: no matter what. I don't care. If you're in Florida,
- 10:22Speaker 2: you're you're decorating your jeep during Christmas.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Yes, it's fun.
- 10:28Speaker 5: Who doesn't like Christmas lights?
- 10:30Speaker 4: And they're beautiful.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Yeah, there's some really creative stuff too. But you guys
- 10:35Speaker 2: said a couple of years ago, let's do this. Let's
- 10:40Speaker 2: let's get all of us uh jeep fanatics together, Let's
- 10:46Speaker 2: decorate our jeeps. Let's get together. Let's let's get some
- 10:50Speaker 2: hot cocoa going, and and and let's just get some
- 10:53Speaker 2: some feel good happening and make a little parade. Tell
- 10:56Speaker 2: me about it.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Yes, so it started. I went to four years ago.
- 11:00Speaker 6: We went to up to gosp jeep up there to
- 11:04Speaker 6: Burlington and we did their jeep parade and there was
- 11:08Speaker 6: like four jeeps. There was me, my son, my friend Cheyenne,
- 11:14Speaker 6: and Traus's brother. We went out all up there to Burlington,
- 11:18Speaker 6: and they don't they don't tell you the room. There's
- 11:22Speaker 6: no police escorre there. You're just winging it pretty much.
- 11:26Speaker 6: If you know Burlington, great, but if you don't, then
- 11:29Speaker 6: you know you're in trouble. So anyways, we got on
- 11:31Speaker 6: the root and ten minutes into it, my grandchildren are hungry.
- 11:36Speaker 6: So we're like walky talking back to everybody, saying, you know,
- 11:39Speaker 6: these guys are hungry. We need to turn around. We
- 11:42Speaker 6: get to a U turn and we turned around and
- 11:45Speaker 6: every jeep behind us followed us. The buffalo wild wings.
- 11:51Speaker 6: They were madder than a dickens. So I said, you
- 11:54Speaker 6: know what, I'm never going to do this up here.
- 11:56Speaker 6: Why don't we bring it to Barry. And I've brought
- 11:59Speaker 6: it here for the last years and I've gotten between
- 12:01Speaker 6: twenty to thirty jeeps and it's been pretty fun. So
- 12:05Speaker 6: we just go from the Berlin Mall.
- 12:08Speaker 3: It's the old toy run route. We go up over
- 12:11Speaker 3: Blue Crossblu Shields, down.
- 12:12Speaker 6: By Hannaford's, down into Berry Berry Montpillier Road and end.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Up in Montpelier.
- 12:18Speaker 6: And I just started adding in the last last year,
- 12:22Speaker 6: I just asked everybody if they could bring in an
- 12:24Speaker 6: unwrapped gift, doesn't have to be anything, you know, big,
- 12:28Speaker 6: and then I just donated to the Very City Police
- 12:30Speaker 6: Department who escorts us, which is wonderful.
- 12:34Speaker 2: So, yeah, that's so cool that Berry City PD does that.
- 12:39Speaker 2: That's that's awesome, man awesome.
- 12:41Speaker 6: After for Larry step right up said absolutely, I'll do it.
- 12:44Speaker 3: So it's been good.
- 12:45Speaker 6: You know, at least we have an escort so we
- 12:47Speaker 6: can stop traffic. And I think last year Berlin jumped
- 12:52Speaker 6: in and helped escort when we got to I think
- 12:54Speaker 6: Montpellier or Berlin something like that.
- 12:57Speaker 2: But yeah, so it's grown, it's getting bigger, I.
- 13:00Speaker 5: Hope, so I want it.
- 13:01Speaker 6: I mean each year we get a couple more, you know.
- 13:03Speaker 2: But so tomorrow night six pm, I think, right, you said.
- 13:08Speaker 6: Berlin, Mall, yeah, we'll leave about six, could be you know,
- 13:11Speaker 6: a couple of minutes after. It's hard to tell like
- 13:13Speaker 6: a time we'll be coming through because we never know
- 13:15Speaker 6: traffic or road conditions or just be patient.
- 13:19Speaker 3: You know, we will be coming through.
- 13:21Speaker 2: And you're going to be finishing up on the State House.
- 13:25Speaker 2: You'll I mean, you guys aren't going to be actually
- 13:29Speaker 2: parking on the State House lawn, although you could if
- 13:32Speaker 2: you put it in four wheel, but you but you
- 13:34Speaker 2: guys are just going to be pulling up in front
- 13:36Speaker 2: of the State House lawn there and and then what
- 13:40Speaker 2: I'm guessing, a big group photo.
- 13:42Speaker 6: We do a big group photo, and then we'll just
- 13:44Speaker 6: hand off the gifts to very city officer Flurry and
- 13:48Speaker 6: that's pretty much it. It's just a quick little ride and.
- 13:53Speaker 2: I love it.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Yes, it's simple to be there.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I'm planning to be. I'm planning to be although I
- 14:00Speaker 2: don't have a cheap But listen, this doesn't have to
- 14:06Speaker 2: be like you know, you're you're if it's if it's
- 14:09Speaker 2: got the name Jeep on.
- 14:10Speaker 3: It, you're good to decorate it. You're good to go
- 14:14Speaker 3: decorate it.
- 14:15Speaker 6: I don't care if it's a renegade, I don't care
- 14:16Speaker 6: if it's a Cherokee, if it says jeep.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Decorated.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Are there any any hooligans that take the top down
- 14:25Speaker 2: and and do this?
- 14:28Speaker 6: No? No, I did have a gentleman two years ago.
- 14:31Speaker 5: I think it was two years ago.
- 14:33Speaker 6: He put a Santa Claus outfit on and rode in
- 14:37Speaker 6: the back of his cheap.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Oh god, I can't even think truck. I remember, brain cramped.
- 14:46Speaker 6: Yeah, he rolled the whole way in the back of
- 14:47Speaker 6: his cheek.
- 14:49Speaker 2: I love it getting the comment here, Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly,
- 14:55Speaker 2: Stacy Holden is saying, and he's down in uh uh, Florida.
- 14:59Speaker 2: He's saying, cheap are decorated year round down there.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Now, what's the deal with the whole rubber ducky thing?
- 15:08Speaker 2: I know this isn't specific for winter or Christmas or anything,
- 15:12Speaker 2: but what is that?
- 15:14Speaker 6: There was so my understanding, it was from a lady
- 15:17Speaker 6: that was having a bad day at a store and
- 15:20Speaker 6: she went in and bought a duck and put it
- 15:23Speaker 6: on or somebody put it on her geep, I guess,
- 15:27Speaker 6: and then that started it. From my understanding, she has
- 15:30Speaker 6: since passed away. But it's been going on for years.
- 15:33Speaker 6: I guess, Wow, it's I love getting duck just because
- 15:37Speaker 6: there's so many and you never get I hardly ever
- 15:40Speaker 6: get the same one twice and they're just fun.
- 15:42Speaker 2: But there is but there's only so much room in
- 15:45Speaker 2: the dashboard though.
- 15:47Speaker 6: Well I have I have a couple of favorites, so
- 15:49Speaker 6: I keep my favorite ones on the dashboard and then
- 15:52Speaker 6: I reduck.
- 15:53Speaker 3: So it's exciting.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I love it. Michael saying, she's gonna be at work
- 16:01Speaker 2: here watching everybody go by. But tell us once again,
- 16:05Speaker 2: uh where the route is? And again this is starting.
- 16:09Speaker 2: This jeep miss parade will be underway right around six
- 16:13Speaker 2: o'clock tomorrow night, starting at the Berlin Mall. Uh so,
- 16:18Speaker 2: so folks, please, you know, uh, come out of your
- 16:22Speaker 2: house if if you're close by, gibbon give them some
- 16:25Speaker 2: horn there, let them throw them some love, let them
- 16:28Speaker 2: let them know that you you appreciate their their hard
- 16:31Speaker 2: work and getting their jeeps decorated. But what's the route again?
- 16:35Speaker 2: One more time?
- 16:36Speaker 5: So it goes.
- 16:37Speaker 6: It starts off at the Berlin Mall, and we do
- 16:39Speaker 6: people that show up at the Berlin Mall and take
- 16:40Speaker 6: pictures and just kind of look, but it goes from there.
- 16:44Speaker 6: We go up across Blue Shield, down into south Bury,
- 16:50Speaker 6: down into Berry and then Berry Montoy Road and then
- 16:54Speaker 6: onto Mont Hillier. It's the same route as a toy
- 16:56Speaker 6: run that has been run for years. Okay, this bick
- 16:59Speaker 6: a little thirty minute ride. Forty minute ride.
- 17:02Speaker 2: That's so great, so great year number what now? You
- 17:05Speaker 2: said three?
- 17:07Speaker 3: Yeah, this will be my fourth year here.
- 17:10Speaker 6: And I did it in Burlington and that was yeah,
- 17:12Speaker 6: that was not fun.
- 17:14Speaker 2: I love it, man, this it sounds so great. Thanks
- 17:17Speaker 2: for coming on this word and anything else you can
- 17:19Speaker 2: you can think of that you want to pass on
- 17:21Speaker 2: about jeep, miss and if you can, let let's say this.
- 17:24Speaker 2: If you can't make it this year, please get you
- 17:27Speaker 2: jeep together, stay tuned, keep watch and be part of
- 17:32Speaker 2: it next year. But any anything else that you can.
- 17:35Speaker 3: I thank you pretty much.
- 17:36Speaker 6: You pretty much summed it all up.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Just come out watch.
- 17:39Speaker 6: If you don't have a jeep, the more the merrier.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Definitely, if you.
- 17:43Speaker 6: Have a jeep, just throw a lights on. I've seen
- 17:45Speaker 6: people even put those little blow up things. You put
- 17:47Speaker 6: it on the front yard, in the back in their
- 17:49Speaker 6: side of their passenger seat. Doesn't you don't have to
- 17:52Speaker 6: do anything special. Just come out.
- 17:55Speaker 3: Yeah, show, you know, show.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Is getting a questionnaire. Is Bronco considered a dirty word
- 18:02Speaker 2: for jeep people?
- 18:05Speaker 7: JD.
- 18:06Speaker 2: It's just a question, just a question. It just came in.
- 18:11Speaker 3: No, I love it.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Listen, Sam, you're doing great things for the community. You
- 18:20Speaker 2: know what you're doing.
- 18:22Speaker 6: Well, I hope I'm putting smiles on everybody's faces, and you.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Know that's what you're doing, and you're you're bringing people
- 18:27Speaker 2: together and quite frankly, we need a little bit more
- 18:33Speaker 2: of that. And I'm I'm glad, absolutely, I'm so glad
- 18:37Speaker 2: you're doing it. And I hope this turns into a
- 18:41Speaker 2: tradition that goes far beyond three years.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Yes, it's something easy.
- 18:46Speaker 6: I mean, I mean, I just decorate it and you
- 18:49Speaker 6: go for a little ride.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Yeah, have some fun, bring the kids, you know, and
- 18:54Speaker 2: if you know, if you're going to be up anywhere
- 18:56Speaker 2: near the Berlin Mall tomorrow night around six o'clock, get
- 18:58Speaker 2: up there and see the lineup for this, and thank
- 19:01Speaker 2: everybody for doing this. It's just in the spirit of Christmas,
- 19:06Speaker 2: just being together.
- 19:07Speaker 7: Yep.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Thanks Sam, appreciate you.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Coming on, Thank you for inviting me.
- 19:14Speaker 2: And we'll be watching the page as well and sharing
- 19:18Speaker 2: up a few more pictures of what's happening tomorrow night
- 19:21Speaker 2: for cheapness, really really cool. It has been a big
- 19:27Speaker 2: week here in Vermont, and especially a big week for
- 19:31Speaker 2: us in Berry. Lots lots to talk about. I'm sure
- 19:37Speaker 2: you've seen on the news. On Wednesday, the Agency of
- 19:41Speaker 2: Commerce and Community Development announced a nearly fifty million dollars
- 19:52Speaker 2: check in disaster recovery funding for Washington and Lamoyle Counties.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Huge news for communities that are still rebuilding and still
- 20:03Speaker 2: healing from the twenty twenty three floods. Right here in Barry.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Part of that investment is headed to the Stevens Branch Apartments,
- 20:12Speaker 2: a Downstreet Housing in ever North partnership that it's going
- 20:16Speaker 2: to create thirty one permanently affordable homes in the heart
- 20:21Speaker 2: of the city. When I say affordable, we have broken
- 20:28Speaker 2: down that word in great detail over the last couple
- 20:34Speaker 2: of weeks with Downstreet Housing on the air with Us
- 20:39Speaker 2: and off the air on Facebook. We have clearly defined
- 20:44Speaker 2: what that is, what that means. If you are not
- 20:50Speaker 2: down with that, please go back and re listen to
- 20:54Speaker 2: that episode with Downstreet Housing. Just what was last week?
- 20:58Speaker 2: I can't remember. I think it was last week. The
- 21:03Speaker 2: project also includes major flood mitigation work, turning under used
- 21:09Speaker 2: city parking lots like this one on Seminary Street into
- 21:16Speaker 2: new housing. And of course what that does is is,
- 21:20Speaker 2: in the end, hopefully I think most of us, most
- 21:24Speaker 2: of us would agree anyway, strengthens our resilience and gives
- 21:29Speaker 2: us what we need more than anything else. In addition
- 21:35Speaker 2: to boosting the grand list, this is big stuff. This
- 21:40Speaker 2: is big, big news. Prospect Heights project is also going
- 21:45Speaker 2: to be advancing as a result of this. This is
- 21:47Speaker 2: this long planned one hundred and twenty eight unit subdivision
- 21:54Speaker 2: that has been championed by Bury Area Development Core. This
- 21:58Speaker 2: gets the city right to the finish line on the
- 22:02Speaker 2: redesign and permitting needed to bring one hundred, nearly one
- 22:07Speaker 2: hundred new homes, single family duplexes and multi family units
- 22:13Speaker 2: to the Granite City. Really cool, and you know this
- 22:18Speaker 2: is gonna help people stay right here in our community.
- 22:21Speaker 2: That's what we need, That's what we need. A lot
- 22:25Speaker 2: Harrington avin Brook Street also going to be receiving support
- 22:29Speaker 2: as a result of this. This check it's big. Let's
- 22:35Speaker 2: try to be so grateful to Governor Scott the Vermont
- 22:40Speaker 2: Community Development Board and the Vermont Community Development Program staff
- 22:45Speaker 2: for backing these projects ups' We've got to, I say, listen,
- 22:54Speaker 2: I know everyone's got an opinion about housing and this
- 22:58Speaker 2: and that and what's affordable it's not and everything. We've
- 23:05Speaker 2: got to try to see the silver lining here and
- 23:07Speaker 2: try to be positive. I don't know, I think it's fantastic.
- 23:15Speaker 2: I hope you do as well. We have had also
- 23:24Speaker 2: a pretty difficult week with the news here in Barry.
- 23:31Speaker 2: And listen, I know that I do a lot of
- 23:35Speaker 2: joking around on the air, a lot of laughs, but
- 23:40Speaker 2: there's a lot of serious stuff that also needs to
- 23:43Speaker 2: be talked about. And we goof around for the sake
- 23:47Speaker 2: of our own mental health and trying to make you
- 23:53Speaker 2: smile or laugh out loud. But it's been a rough week.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Early Tuesday morning, we had a fifty one year old man,
- 24:03Speaker 2: homeless guy here in Barry, who was found outside. He
- 24:08Speaker 2: had frozen to death overnight temperatures dipped to around fifteen
- 24:15Speaker 2: below zero. This, this is a this is unacceptable. I
- 24:24Speaker 2: think most of us would agree. Test tailors with us
- 24:28Speaker 2: on the line. Test you there, good.
- 24:29Speaker 4: Morning, I share a good morning, JD.
- 24:32Speaker 2: What a heartbreaking story and reminder to all of us
- 24:40Speaker 2: that no one should be left outside in this kind
- 24:44Speaker 2: of cold.
- 24:45Speaker 8: Ever, this is true, and thank you for having me
- 24:51Speaker 8: on today. You know, Richard.
- 24:56Speaker 4: Was getting in you know up.
- 24:59Speaker 5: Well too.
- 25:00Speaker 4: Give a little background.
- 25:01Speaker 8: So I'm the Homelessness and Housing liaism for the City
- 25:04Speaker 8: of Barry and I'm here on a grant and so
- 25:07Speaker 8: it's not forever, but you know, it's been a really
- 25:14Speaker 8: great journey to work with all the churches and other
- 25:17Speaker 8: people in Burry, plus the service organizations, to really get
- 25:21Speaker 8: to have everybody get to know each other in working
- 25:25Speaker 8: on this issue of homelessness.
- 25:29Speaker 4: So we've stood up a.
- 25:32Speaker 8: Warming center during the day from seven to ten am
- 25:38Speaker 8: Monday through Friday at the Church of the Good Shepherd,
- 25:41Speaker 8: and so that's that's a man by volunteers from all
- 25:46Speaker 8: the different churches. And it's so that we're in our
- 25:51Speaker 8: second year of doing this like this, and this is
- 25:53Speaker 8: since the pandemic. We used to do it before the pandemic.
- 25:56Speaker 8: It was very hearty, and so it's our second year.
- 25:59Speaker 8: Everybody gets to know each other and everybody gets to
- 26:01Speaker 8: know who our guests are at the warming center. And
- 26:05Speaker 8: Richard came from time to time, and so so it's
- 26:11Speaker 8: sad for all of us because it's it's a person
- 26:14Speaker 8: that we know, you know, not just this and you know,
- 26:17Speaker 8: not simply a person who you know is in the community,
- 26:22Speaker 8: but he's in our community. And so it's it's very sad.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, and I just I just said on
- 26:33Speaker 2: the air, you know, it's that, you know that this
- 26:37Speaker 2: time of year, where there's so much going on, there's
- 26:42Speaker 2: so much going on, we're filled, our heads are filled
- 26:44Speaker 2: with with so much, whether it's joy, excitement, camaraderie, getting
- 26:50Speaker 2: together with people that we love, and hopefully a good
- 26:57Speaker 2: dose of laughter and and fun. And we we we
- 27:03Speaker 2: try real hard to bring that to people. But man,
- 27:06Speaker 2: I got to tell you, it's like when the camera
- 27:11Speaker 2: is off, the microphone is off. For for me, some
- 27:18Speaker 2: things really get under my skin. And this, this story
- 27:24Speaker 2: this week really bothered me, bothered me deeply. And last
- 27:29Speaker 2: night my my wife even said to me, She's like,
- 27:34Speaker 2: what what's up? And I'm just like, man, the story
- 27:39Speaker 2: of this this guy who froze to death right here,
- 27:43Speaker 2: like just just a short distance from where I'm sitting
- 27:47Speaker 2: right now, is really disturbing me. It's it's it's rent
- 27:53Speaker 2: in space in my head. I mean, I don't know, man,
- 27:58Speaker 2: it's it's.
- 27:58Speaker 8: It's yeah, well, you know, there's the whole there, but
- 28:03Speaker 8: for the grace of God, isn't there you know, go
- 28:07Speaker 8: I you know that expression. So there's a little bit
- 28:10Speaker 8: of that probably mixed in with you know, we're.
- 28:16Speaker 4: We're a country of abundance and why does this happen? Right?
- 28:21Speaker 8: Yeah, So there's that and then you know, and then
- 28:24Speaker 8: the proximity is and it's and it's it's bothering a
- 28:28Speaker 8: lot of people because you know, we had we had
- 28:31Speaker 8: an overnight shelter, so we stand that up if it
- 28:34Speaker 8: gets to be around zero or the wind chill is
- 28:37Speaker 8: just you know, not tenable, and we wish we could
- 28:42Speaker 8: do more, but at least this, and we stand that
- 28:46Speaker 8: up at the very congregational Church mot Fulire has a shelter,
- 28:53Speaker 8: and then we have the Good Samaritan Haven, so you know,
- 28:57Speaker 8: those are the the places that people can go. And
- 29:02Speaker 8: then Good Samaritan has outreached people who are just scanning
- 29:09Speaker 8: everywhere everywhere they know to look for people, and they're
- 29:13Speaker 8: checking on where there might be campsites to see if
- 29:16Speaker 8: people have everything they need if they want to go
- 29:19Speaker 8: someplace else if they want, if they are just okay,
- 29:25Speaker 8: And then we have the police and are fire people
- 29:31Speaker 8: who who are also scanning areas and scanning them again
- 29:36Speaker 8: and looking for people. So it's so it's it's hard
- 29:39Speaker 8: on all of us to know that no matter how
- 29:41Speaker 8: much we make these efforts to help, when the temperatures
- 29:46Speaker 8: get lower, that's still.
- 29:50Speaker 4: A tragedy can happen.
- 29:51Speaker 2: I've heard and I know you have that some sometimes
- 30:00Speaker 2: folks that are homeless, even when it's really intense with
- 30:05Speaker 2: the weather, that they still prefer to be in their
- 30:13Speaker 2: own environment where that where they're familiar.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Yeah, even if it's.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Like really really cold, they still prefer that. But what
- 30:22Speaker 2: I think the reason why we've got you on this
- 30:25Speaker 2: morning is just to promote the message of listen, man
- 30:30Speaker 2: if if if if it's you, or if it's someone
- 30:34Speaker 2: that you know that fits in this category, they like
- 30:40Speaker 2: they want to be where they're familiar, right that just
- 30:47Speaker 2: try try to have an impact on them to say, hey, listen,
- 30:52Speaker 2: mm hmm, it's not yeah, it's not safe to to
- 30:57Speaker 2: fall asleep like this. There's a warm space that's availed.
- 31:00Speaker 2: I'll go, I'll go with you. We'll be together. Let's
- 31:05Speaker 2: just get through this one night, or this two nights,
- 31:08Speaker 2: if there's if we get if we're getting a snap,
- 31:10Speaker 2: and let's just go over to the very congregational church
- 31:13Speaker 2: with you know, you got what I think I think
- 31:16Speaker 2: you said twelve beds over there and correct the shelter
- 31:20Speaker 2: opens once once it hits zero, yeah, which you know.
- 31:25Speaker 8: And we and we're going to be working really hard,
- 31:27Speaker 8: even harder to get the word out. I think we
- 31:29Speaker 8: I know Richard knew because he actually was at the
- 31:34Speaker 8: Warming Center that morning, so we did.
- 31:38Speaker 4: We did tell everybody there just.
- 31:40Speaker 8: You know, in case you didn't hear. We're just a
- 31:41Speaker 8: reminder we are going to be open tonight. I mean,
- 31:44Speaker 8: and that's the thing about having the Warming Center is
- 31:48Speaker 8: like I said, you know, building this community and trust
- 31:52Speaker 8: and you talk about joking around. We you know, I
- 31:57Speaker 8: invite you to come down some time Monday through Friday
- 32:01Speaker 8: from uh seven to ten am and just come, you know,
- 32:06Speaker 8: just come and hang out.
- 32:07Speaker 4: We have coffee.
- 32:08Speaker 8: You know, we don't everybody's invited.
- 32:10Speaker 2: This is at the Good Shepherd.
- 32:13Speaker 4: This is a Good Shepherd.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Yeah, thirty nine Washington Street. Yeah, I'll be there.
- 32:18Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you'll love it.
- 32:20Speaker 8: And and you know, I mean there's people are having
- 32:24Speaker 8: you know that people are having issues, people are helping
- 32:27Speaker 8: each other out, Our volunteers are you know, people are
- 32:32Speaker 8: there's there's a there's no there, there's no line.
- 32:36Speaker 4: It's very blurred.
- 32:37Speaker 3: You know, you're you.
- 32:38Speaker 8: Might be in, you know, helping to make the coffee,
- 32:42Speaker 8: or you might be out, you know, talking to people.
- 32:46Speaker 4: But everybody's doing it.
- 32:48Speaker 8: And and this is something that takes time and consistent, uh,
- 32:54Speaker 8: you know, consistently showing up.
- 32:56Speaker 4: And so you know, my point being that.
- 33:03Speaker 8: You know, most people know it's safe to come to
- 33:06Speaker 8: the Congregational Church on a really cold night because they
- 33:10Speaker 8: already know.
- 33:10Speaker 4: Who we are. Yeah, yeah, we're not strangers.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Yeah, we're getting a question here, just for clarification. Was
- 33:19Speaker 2: he refused a shelter. I don't. I don't. I think.
- 33:24Speaker 8: There's no shelter in central Vermont that has any kind
- 33:28Speaker 8: of philosophy of telling people they can't be there. And
- 33:31Speaker 8: in these coldest of times, Good Samaritan drops all of
- 33:37Speaker 8: their requirements for you know, whether a person has been
- 33:42Speaker 8: drinking or not. So they drop that during these times,
- 33:45Speaker 8: and and the churches certainly don't, they don't turning.
- 33:49Speaker 4: But so nobody, nobody, he didn't.
- 33:53Speaker 8: There's no way he came to any of the shelters
- 33:56Speaker 8: because he would not have been refused.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think the you know, obviously is
- 34:02Speaker 2: some some some very basic rules for behavior, uh, you know,
- 34:09Speaker 2: to be respectful to others. But like you said, I
- 34:12Speaker 2: mean even if even if you've had some some alcohol. Uh,
- 34:18Speaker 2: this is this is not about judgment at all. This
- 34:22Speaker 2: is about it's not at all saving saving lives.
- 34:29Speaker 8: It's it's so cold people come in this so so
- 34:31Speaker 8: this is the scenario in our shelter.
- 34:34Speaker 4: You know, we set up our.
- 34:35Speaker 8: Cuts and and have nice blankets with them, and we
- 34:41Speaker 8: have volunteers that have made some you know, beautiful hardy
- 34:45Speaker 8: stews and cast roles to eat, and so there's really
- 34:49Speaker 8: good food there. And so when people come down, and
- 34:53Speaker 8: people have been donating socks, and we can always use more.
- 34:57Speaker 4: So it's been nice. We've only done.
- 34:59Speaker 8: This for two nights so far, but it's been nice
- 35:01Speaker 8: to welcome people say, come on in, take your boots off.
- 35:05Speaker 8: I'm going to give you a fresh pair of socks.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Wow, and just.
- 35:09Speaker 8: Come on in and you know, pick your bed and
- 35:13Speaker 8: put your stuff down, relax, and they get a bite
- 35:19Speaker 8: to eat. Thank goodness, they had the wherewithal to build
- 35:24Speaker 8: a shower. So actually for you know, Monday night, four
- 35:27Speaker 8: people took showers and they were so I called it
- 35:34Speaker 8: in like a lion out like a lamb. Yeah, he
- 35:37Speaker 8: mean really, you know, and they got to take showers
- 35:39Speaker 8: and just sleep. So people come in and they kind
- 35:41Speaker 8: of hang out, but you know, they really need to
- 35:44Speaker 8: be warm, they need to be fed, and they need
- 35:46Speaker 8: to sleep.
- 35:46Speaker 4: And that's what happens the cold.
- 35:49Speaker 2: The cold makes makes you tired. It SAPs the energy
- 35:52Speaker 2: right out of here.
- 35:54Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 35:55Speaker 2: So seven pm to seven am is the over an shelter.
- 36:01Speaker 8: Yeah, and then of course when it becomes seven am,
- 36:04Speaker 8: they can come over to the Good Shepherd Church and
- 36:07Speaker 8: spend another three hours.
- 36:08Speaker 2: Till ten, Yeah, till ten for for for some warmth,
- 36:13Speaker 2: some food, some conversation. And then in mont Pillier they've
- 36:18Speaker 2: got a cold weather shelter over there, kind of a
- 36:21Speaker 2: temporary location at the Trinity Church and that's from uh
- 36:27Speaker 2: six until eight or eight, all right, and then at
- 36:30Speaker 2: the and then at the Unitarian Church as well on
- 36:34Speaker 2: Main Street.
- 36:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 36:36Speaker 8: Okay, yeah, they're they're working really hard. Everything is about
- 36:41Speaker 8: this safe and sprinkled facility, and they're working really hard
- 36:45Speaker 8: to find, you know, where they can do this that
- 36:49Speaker 8: you know, the fire Marshal is going to agree to,
- 36:52Speaker 8: and it's going to be a good space for standing
- 36:57Speaker 8: up a shelter.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Andrea Standard is doing an outstanding job over there. You know.
- 37:04Speaker 2: I was chatting with Zach Hughes this morning and he
- 37:08Speaker 2: was like, we need some more test tailors in the world,
- 37:12Speaker 2: is what he said to what he said to me.
- 37:17Speaker 2: The community table and warming space over at the Trinity
- 37:21Speaker 2: Church again, the daytime hours Monday through Thursday. I think
- 37:26Speaker 2: you said eight am to like four something like that. Yeah, okay,
- 37:33Speaker 2: and then Friday.
- 37:35Speaker 3: I'm not sure.
- 37:35Speaker 8: I think somebody you know, I do have an email
- 37:39Speaker 8: of the latest on that, and I've.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Got, you know, with with your permission, I can put
- 37:46Speaker 2: if obviously, with your permission, I would put your email
- 37:49Speaker 2: here in the in the comments so people could get
- 37:53Speaker 2: in touch with you, if that's.
- 37:55Speaker 4: Okay, I would like that.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, I'll do I'm going to do that
- 37:58Speaker 2: here in a second. But Saint august In Church on
- 38:01Speaker 2: Berry Street on Friday's only, which is today, they've got
- 38:07Speaker 2: a daytime shelter that's that's happening over there, this kind
- 38:14Speaker 2: of programming, this kind of messaging, and I know, I know,
- 38:19Speaker 2: it's Friday. I know, we we we want to we
- 38:21Speaker 2: want to let loosen and let our guard down and
- 38:24Speaker 2: have some fun. But this kind of stuff is so critical. Man,
- 38:27Speaker 2: I don't care what else, Frankly is going on. This
- 38:33Speaker 2: this stuff, we're going to push harder than anything. And
- 38:37Speaker 2: if you ever call me tests, I'm gonna I'm going
- 38:40Speaker 2: to answer. I don't care, I don't care. Appreciate that,
- 38:43Speaker 2: whether I'm live on the air or or not. Please,
- 38:48Speaker 2: I'm gonna.
- 38:50Speaker 4: I'm sorry.
- 38:52Speaker 8: Yeah, I just interrupted, you know, But but it's so
- 38:54Speaker 8: important to me to make sure people understand all the
- 38:58Speaker 8: work that the library is doing on this on this front,
- 39:04Speaker 8: I mean, the reason why we're open only till ten
- 39:08Speaker 8: is because that's you know, because you know, we have
- 39:10Speaker 8: to get volunteers together for all of this, and and
- 39:14Speaker 8: then most people end up going over to the library
- 39:17Speaker 8: if they still need to be indoors in a place
- 39:19Speaker 8: that's warm.
- 39:20Speaker 4: Sure, it's it's I'm glad. I mean, I'm glad.
- 39:25Speaker 8: When I walk in the library, I see I see
- 39:27Speaker 8: people I know, and they're hanging out reading books, doing
- 39:31Speaker 8: jigsaw puzzles and things like that. But you know, I
- 39:36Speaker 8: mean there are issues, uh with people that you know,
- 39:40Speaker 8: everybody has their thing, and so it's it's sometimes can
- 39:45Speaker 8: be I don't want to say overwhelming, because the library
- 39:50Speaker 8: is so much stronger.
- 39:52Speaker 4: Than that, but you know, it's it takes up.
- 39:56Speaker 8: You know, a lot of their time to be working
- 39:59Speaker 8: with people who are simply looking for a place to
- 40:01Speaker 8: be warm and ya and stay versus there are other clientele.
- 40:06Speaker 8: And the thing is is that for the most part,
- 40:13Speaker 8: it seems like everything works out synergistically, that that people
- 40:18Speaker 8: who patronize the library, all the people who patronize the library,
- 40:23Speaker 8: you know, they have respect for each other. But there
- 40:27Speaker 8: are some people that say they won't. You know, they've
- 40:29Speaker 8: seen homeless people outside of the library, so they're not
- 40:32Speaker 8: going to walk in there with their children and and
- 40:34Speaker 8: it's and nothing could be farther from the truth that
- 40:37Speaker 8: that would be a danger to your child.
- 40:39Speaker 4: But you know, you know, like.
- 40:42Speaker 8: There's there's certain you know, barriers, stereotypes and judgments there
- 40:47Speaker 8: that are tough, right, yeah, to watch when they're people,
- 40:53Speaker 8: you know, but also you know, you know, I think
- 40:59Speaker 8: you should if you have and had Kristin on from
- 41:01Speaker 8: the library. I think she would be a great guest
- 41:05Speaker 8: for you, you know, so you can talk about, you know,
- 41:08Speaker 8: how things are going there.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Sure, I consider that done. That'll that will definitely happen.
- 41:13Speaker 2: And listen. You know, it's like as a parent when
- 41:19Speaker 2: you're if you're if you're heading over to the library
- 41:22Speaker 2: or whatever, and your your kid uh sees someone who
- 41:27Speaker 2: is either clearly homeless or may be homeless. Take that
- 41:32Speaker 2: opportunity to talk talk with your child and and have
- 41:37Speaker 2: an honest conversation with with them and explain to them
- 41:41Speaker 2: what this is and exactly you know, these are human beings.
- 41:48Speaker 4: Let's say hello, Just say hello, say.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Hello exactly exactly. Yeah, I mean these are these are
- 41:55Speaker 2: obvious obvious things here. I think I think the big
- 41:59Speaker 2: take away here is we want to make sure that
- 42:03Speaker 2: people understand that this information is out there. It should
- 42:07Speaker 2: be shared as much as possible. Yeah, take whatever whatever
- 42:12Speaker 2: is in your head, whatever your opinions are, and just
- 42:16Speaker 2: push them aside for a little bit and get this
- 42:18Speaker 2: information out there because these shelters, the bottom line is
- 42:23Speaker 2: they save lives. Yeah, especially on nights where we have
- 42:29Speaker 2: seen this, it has been an exceptionally early cold winter,
- 42:34Speaker 2: if somebody needs help, if somebody needs a warm place
- 42:38Speaker 2: to stay, having this information at their at their knowledge
- 42:45Speaker 2: is critical.
- 42:46Speaker 4: It's critical, Yeah, it is critical.
- 42:49Speaker 8: And so I just you know, want to say, you're
- 42:52Speaker 8: putting my email is you know, te tailor at Berrycity
- 42:56Speaker 8: dot org.
- 42:58Speaker 4: And I'm easy to find.
- 42:59Speaker 8: I'm in the old police We just I don't know
- 43:04Speaker 8: that room is always going to be called the old
- 43:06Speaker 8: p D, but the in city Hall. So I'm easy
- 43:09Speaker 8: to find. And uh, I just want to say our
- 43:14Speaker 8: needs are from the community are We could always use
- 43:17Speaker 8: more volunteers, sure, either for the overnight shelter or you know,
- 43:21Speaker 8: even at the just you know, the the morning shelter,
- 43:26Speaker 8: but also just drop down and just see how it
- 43:30Speaker 8: all goes. It's it's pretty cool. And then so we
- 43:35Speaker 8: could use volunteers. We can always use food for the
- 43:38Speaker 8: overnight shelter, definitely hurry food and baked goods for the
- 43:46Speaker 8: the daytime one baked goods or you know, everybody loves those.
- 43:49Speaker 8: And then and we can always use money because as
- 43:52Speaker 8: much as we it doesn't cost much to want all this,
- 43:56Speaker 8: it's still it.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Still does cost.
- 43:58Speaker 8: So so if people wanted to make a cut contribution
- 44:00Speaker 8: to either the church or the Good Shepherd or the
- 44:02Speaker 8: very congregational church that would be greatly appreciated.
- 44:06Speaker 4: Sure sucks, We love sucks.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Absolutely so do I so do. I I'm kind of
- 44:14Speaker 2: a And we actually even.
- 44:16Speaker 8: Know somebody who we know people that manufacture sucks, don't.
- 44:20Speaker 2: We Yeah, darn toff. And we got to comment. We
- 44:24Speaker 2: just got to comment that maybe darn Toff could donate
- 44:27Speaker 2: some socks so to work on that. Yeah, yeah, And
- 44:32Speaker 2: you know, let's give a tip of the hat to
- 44:35Speaker 2: we got some we got some some real superheroes in
- 44:38Speaker 2: our community that that do stuff for the homeless, especially
- 44:42Speaker 2: during the winter, and do not want a spotlight, any recognition.
- 44:49Speaker 2: They are so humble. But I'm going to give a
- 44:51Speaker 2: kudos to him again. I've done this on the air before,
- 44:54Speaker 2: I'm going to do it again. Is Sergeant Chad Bissett.
- 44:58Speaker 2: This guy is far beyond the police officer. He's a
- 45:03Speaker 2: fantastic human being and I'm I'm I'm hoping that I'll
- 45:06Speaker 2: get him on the air here, but what he does
- 45:08Speaker 2: for the homeless is incredible. And Dan Mullin, Yeah.
- 45:12Speaker 8: Dan Mullen, absolutely, yeah, yeah, enough enough does more than
- 45:18Speaker 8: enough they do a lot, not enough ministries.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Yes, right, that's right. Great chat with you test listen.
- 45:25Speaker 2: I'm gonna text you after I get off the air.
- 45:27Speaker 2: We're gonna stay in touch and I'm gonna get over
- 45:29Speaker 2: there to one of those shelters and have a cup
- 45:32Speaker 2: of coffee with you. All right.
- 45:34Speaker 8: I would love that, JD. I really appreciate you having
- 45:37Speaker 8: me air this out.
- 45:38Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 45:39Speaker 2: Yeah, we are. And and kudos to uh to Joe
- 45:42Speaker 2: Aldsworth too.
- 45:44Speaker 8: And Joe and she failed and she fail. Everyone has
- 45:48Speaker 8: been amazing in this whole effort.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, good stuff.
- 45:51Speaker 4: Joe and Joe always.
- 45:53Speaker 8: He's he's got his emergency thinking cab on all the
- 45:57Speaker 8: time and it's a great resource for me.
- 45:59Speaker 2: Yeah, we love him a lot.
- 46:01Speaker 8: And Nicholas, our city manager, he's he's just been really
- 46:09Speaker 8: great about letting me do trusting me to let me
- 46:12Speaker 8: do what I need to do.
- 46:13Speaker 2: What you need to do exactly, exactly. Yeah, thank god
- 46:17Speaker 2: for that. Thank God. There's no there's really no time
- 46:20Speaker 2: for micromanaging it. He just they know Tess has got it,
- 46:24Speaker 2: she's dealing with it, she's connected, she knows all the resources.
- 46:28Speaker 2: And yeah, and they're all pulling together and working together,
- 46:32Speaker 2: which I love.
- 46:34Speaker 8: Thanks to Yes, Please anybody reach out to me, that'd
- 46:37Speaker 8: be great.
- 46:37Speaker 2: All right, we got your email on there, it's in
- 46:40Speaker 2: the comments. Please send Tests an email this morning at
- 46:45Speaker 2: least just to say hey, thanks for coming on aired
- 46:48Speaker 2: out and talking about this. You know, yeah, ye good stuff. Test.
- 46:53Speaker 4: All right, JD have nice weekend.
- 46:55Speaker 2: Keep the coffee on for me. I'm coming.
- 46:57Speaker 4: I want to here, all right.
- 47:00Speaker 2: Hey. The city Council, I don't know if you saw
- 47:02Speaker 2: this last night, is looking for feedback as it crafts
- 47:07Speaker 2: the fiscal year twenty seven budget. They're saying, make sure
- 47:15Speaker 2: your voice is heard as we work on this. So
- 47:20Speaker 2: you have, I've got a website here. I'm gonna put
- 47:24Speaker 2: it in the comments. It's a little survey. Now listen.
- 47:32Speaker 2: I know that you have opinions about this, and that's
- 47:38Speaker 2: a good thing. But here's your chance to to voice
- 47:44Speaker 2: those opinions. Take the survey. You can download a paper
- 47:48Speaker 2: copy if you want to. I just posted the link
- 47:50Speaker 2: right there. It's going to remain open until twelve noon
- 48:00Speaker 2: on Wednesday, January twenty eighth this year. You also have
- 48:06Speaker 2: the option of leaving an email or a phone number
- 48:11Speaker 2: for a chance to win a raffle prize after you
- 48:15Speaker 2: complete the survey. Interesting that I want to hear what
- 48:26Speaker 2: you have to say. So for those of you that
- 48:32Speaker 2: have said in the past, wow, my voice isn't being
- 48:34Speaker 2: heard here. It is right here. I'm going to try
- 48:43Speaker 2: to lighten it up with you here this morning as
- 48:48Speaker 2: we go out. Logan Loose is on every Saturday morning
- 48:57Speaker 2: talking sports right here, and this guy lives and breathes football. Well,
- 49:10Speaker 2: good morning, Logan. How are you, buddy?
- 49:12Speaker 3: Morning JD.
- 49:13Speaker 2: How are we my brother here? It is Friday morning.
- 49:17Speaker 2: I don't even know who won last night?
- 49:22Speaker 3: Are we talking basketball or football?
- 49:24Speaker 2: We're talking football Thursday night? Football? Who who won? Are
- 49:28Speaker 2: the chief Are the Chiefs still live?
- 49:31Speaker 7: Uh?
- 49:31Speaker 3: So? The no, the chief No, the Chiefs are out.
- 49:34Speaker 3: Chiefs are cooked like they so at this.
- 49:36Speaker 7: Point, how the Chiefs have to win is they have
- 49:38Speaker 7: to play what we football players call the magic lottery ball.
- 49:42Speaker 3: I'm just I just made that out.
- 49:43Speaker 7: That's bullshit anyway, but you know, seriousness though, in all
- 49:48Speaker 7: seriousness though, uh, there's it's it's it's called it's called
- 49:51Speaker 7: the it's called the like the guessing game of like.
- 49:55Speaker 7: They basically have to win every game they cannot of
- 49:58Speaker 7: at this point, they can't afford a lose. If they
- 50:01Speaker 7: lose one more time, they are absolutely out. So they
- 50:03Speaker 7: have to win out the rest of the year games
- 50:06Speaker 7: and then they have to bet on certain teams losing
- 50:09Speaker 7: and certain teams winning kind of thing they have. It's
- 50:12Speaker 7: it's like pure for them to get in at this
- 50:14Speaker 7: point is pure luck.
- 50:15Speaker 3: Like it has to be like they have to win.
- 50:18Speaker 7: Every game, and teams like for example, like Buffalo, like
- 50:23Speaker 7: a bunch of AFC teams need to start losing like
- 50:26Speaker 7: so they can get a spot in.
- 50:28Speaker 3: But right now it's looking unlikely.
- 50:31Speaker 7: But last night's game was the Falcons and the Buccaneers
- 50:34Speaker 7: where the Falcons beat the Buccaneers in a very close
- 50:37Speaker 7: contest twenty nine to twenty eight.
- 50:42Speaker 2: That was a game I should have been watching, buddy,
- 50:45Speaker 2: damn it.
- 50:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
- 50:46Speaker 7: Kirk cut Yeah, Kirk Cousins thirty three for thirty three
- 50:51Speaker 7: completions out of forty four for three hundred and seventy
- 50:53Speaker 7: three yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions. Well, Baker Mayfield was
- 50:58Speaker 7: nineteen for thirty four or two hundred seventy seven yards,
- 51:02Speaker 7: two touchdowns and one interception. Yeah, just close combat, close quarters,
- 51:09Speaker 7: surprising with the Bucks. The Bucks are on a two
- 51:11Speaker 7: game losing streak. They've lost twice in a row now,
- 51:14Speaker 7: which is surprising.
- 51:15Speaker 3: They were we just gotta.
- 51:17Speaker 2: We just gotta comment here saying logan Philip Rivers yay
- 51:22Speaker 2: or nay.
- 51:24Speaker 3: Oh as a Seahawks fan, no offense.
- 51:27Speaker 7: But I think I don't think he's gonna I don't
- 51:29Speaker 7: think he's gonna make it out of that Seahawks game.
- 51:31Speaker 7: I don't think he's gonna make it out a live
- 51:32Speaker 7: like he's he's So I feel bad for.
- 51:35Speaker 3: Him because he's coming out of a five year retirement.
- 51:39Speaker 7: And he's playing against one of the top like five
- 51:44Speaker 7: defenses right now in the league, and they're all young dudes,
- 51:47Speaker 7: Like our team is very young. So it's a forty
- 51:50Speaker 7: four year old man like getting lined up against a
- 51:53Speaker 7: bunch of like twenty eight year olds, like fresh in
- 51:55Speaker 7: their prime, ready to just hit.
- 51:57Speaker 3: Him, and he is not ready for it.
- 51:59Speaker 7: I don't think I think he's I think I think
- 52:02Speaker 7: Philip Rivers will do solid. I just I don't think
- 52:05Speaker 7: this is like I think this is a great like
- 52:08Speaker 7: replacement for Daniel Jones, But I don't think that Philip Rivers.
- 52:14Speaker 7: I feel like, Philip Rivers is gonna do what Marshawn
- 52:17Speaker 7: Lynch did when he came out of retirement, which is
- 52:19Speaker 7: everybody was so hyped for him to play and then
- 52:22Speaker 7: he did a grand total of twelve yards in three games.
- 52:27Speaker 7: So so let that like, let that sink in and
- 52:31Speaker 7: then look at Philip Rivers, who is forty four years old.
- 52:34Speaker 7: He hasn't played in five years. He is he is rusty,
- 52:38Speaker 7: like like, I don't know, I don't I don't know
- 52:40Speaker 7: what to expect. Am I am I excited that he's here, Yes,
- 52:44Speaker 7: but is he gonna be the person that I think
- 52:46Speaker 7: he's gonna be?
- 52:47Speaker 3: Probably not.
- 52:49Speaker 2: Dwayne is one Philip Rivers fan. Dan Alexander just says
- 52:54Speaker 2: if he doesn't get hit, he'll be okay, and also
- 52:57Speaker 2: that the Houston Texans have the best defense in the
- 52:59Speaker 2: lead now as well. So Becky says, go Army beat Navy. Wow,
- 53:06Speaker 2: lots of comments coming in this morning, but press.
- 53:09Speaker 3: So yeah, that's that's actually, that's a that's a big deal.
- 53:11Speaker 7: I want to talk about too, is like the Army
- 53:14Speaker 7: in the Navy game is crazy because there's like so
- 53:17Speaker 7: the helmets they're using this year are like expensive, fancy
- 53:22Speaker 7: like custom made helmets, like they're wearing these like crazy
- 53:26Speaker 7: looking helmets. You should pull up a picture if you can,
- 53:28Speaker 7: look up the Army versus Navy like new helmets. Like
- 53:31Speaker 7: there's a bunch of like the new helmets and they
- 53:34Speaker 7: look crazy, like they look really good.
- 53:36Speaker 3: I'm excited to see how that game goes.
- 53:38Speaker 2: All right, I'm pulling this up now, Uh, helmets? All right,
- 53:44Speaker 2: what's what's the price tag on these things? Do you know?
- 53:47Speaker 3: I don't know the.
- 53:48Speaker 7: Exact price tag, but I saw something saying like maybe
- 53:52Speaker 7: roughly around like two to three thousand per helmet or
- 53:55Speaker 7: like something crazy like that, which is not surprising, especially
- 53:58Speaker 7: like college Like you know, those are expensive helmets, so
- 54:01Speaker 7: it's gotta be especially because like when I was like
- 54:04Speaker 7: a couple of years ago, like I love I don't
- 54:06Speaker 7: know if you've ever seen them, but Louisville, the Louisville
- 54:10Speaker 7: the reds or I don't know Louisville either way, they
- 54:14Speaker 7: have like these crazy like metallic all red helmets that
- 54:19Speaker 7: are like just insane looking.
- 54:20Speaker 3: And I don't know, I feel like I feel like
- 54:23Speaker 3: the College League gets crazier looking.
- 54:26Speaker 7: Like helmets than the NFL does. Maybe that's a hot take.
- 54:28Speaker 7: But like I think the college like like they those kids,
- 54:32Speaker 7: they get like crazy custom helmets per year, like they do,
- 54:36Speaker 7: like they always do some kind of throwback or some
- 54:38Speaker 7: kind of different.
- 54:39Speaker 3: Design and it's it's just wild. Yeah, it's wild to
- 54:41Speaker 3: see it.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll show it on the monitor right now.
- 54:48Speaker 3: But I will say the one thing I will say
- 54:50Speaker 3: that is good.
- 54:51Speaker 7: So like Philip Rivers, like it's obviously an amazing quarterback
- 54:54Speaker 7: all time. But I will say though him coming to
- 54:56Speaker 7: the Colts though, with the Colts having a pretty actually
- 55:00Speaker 7: really solid o line this year, so like you know,
- 55:04Speaker 7: maybe he'll be fine, you know, But at the same time,
- 55:06Speaker 7: it's like his first game being against the Seahawks right now,
- 55:10Speaker 7: is definitely like it's definitely gonna be a tough battle
- 55:12Speaker 7: for him for his first game.
- 55:15Speaker 2: Listen, man, the President, President Trump just uh just stirred
- 55:22Speaker 2: the sports pot again this this past weekend, uh, this
- 55:28Speaker 2: time over what we call football. He was speaking at
- 55:35Speaker 2: the FIFA event where he was getting the Peace Prize.
- 55:41Speaker 7: Yeah, he got the Peace Prize and was like given
- 55:43Speaker 7: a he was given like a trophy and like a
- 55:46Speaker 7: he got like a like a full on medal as well.
- 55:49Speaker 3: He got like a medal and a trophy.
- 55:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and of all things. He said that is
- 56:02Speaker 2: the real football and that the American version needs a
- 56:07Speaker 2: brand new name.
- 56:11Speaker 3: I did see that.
- 56:12Speaker 2: Now you know that my wife is British and we've
- 56:17Speaker 2: had some brutal fights about football versus football and who
- 56:27Speaker 2: properly owns the name football? That it that it that it,
- 56:34Speaker 2: it predates American football and and we we've had some
- 56:39Speaker 2: some knockdowns over this. But now we we've got Trump
- 56:48Speaker 2: saying that that we shouldn't be calling football in America
- 56:57Speaker 2: football anymore. We have to come up with another another
- 57:01Speaker 2: name for the quote NFL stuff end quote is what
- 57:09Speaker 2: he he said. Yeah, and this suggestions, the suggestions are
- 57:16Speaker 2: you have you seen some of the suggestions.
- 57:22Speaker 3: Well, I will say.
- 57:25Speaker 7: I will say, like I think, honestly, like for America,
- 57:29Speaker 7: like to be fair, we have been calling it soccer
- 57:32Speaker 7: for years, you like, especially because like in our schools,
- 57:37Speaker 7: like when we were growing up, Like when I was
- 57:38Speaker 7: a kid, I used to play soccer. And when I
- 57:41Speaker 7: played soccer, I was like five or six years old,
- 57:43Speaker 7: and I was in literally what they called soccer clubs.
- 57:46Speaker 3: We literally had soccer clubs.
- 57:48Speaker 7: So I mean football in terms of soccer is like
- 57:53Speaker 7: everywhere else, but America generally calls it soccer because we
- 57:58Speaker 7: needed a different name because American football is obviously different.
- 58:04Speaker 7: Now I think I agree, because technically we call it football,
- 58:07Speaker 7: but ninety percent of it is with our with hands,
- 58:10Speaker 7: like the ball is in the hands of someone. Yeah,
- 58:12Speaker 7: so it definitely is like more time, more time than not.
- 58:15Speaker 7: The ball is spent like being thrown than it is kicked.
- 58:19Speaker 7: But at the same time, it's like it's the name
- 58:22Speaker 7: we did. We gave it back in like what the twenties,
- 58:25Speaker 7: like nineteen twenty when we like when the NFFELL officially debuted.
- 58:30Speaker 3: You know, we've been calling it that for years now.
- 58:32Speaker 7: I mean the Packers and the Bears were like one
- 58:34Speaker 7: of the very first franchises and they were both in
- 58:37Speaker 7: like what nineteen.
- 58:38Speaker 3: Ninety eight or nineteen eighteen, nineteen nineteens.
- 58:40Speaker 7: That right, and so you know, long time yeah exactly
- 58:45Speaker 7: American Yeah exactly. American football has been around for well
- 58:47Speaker 7: over one hundred and five hundred and sixty years. So
- 58:50Speaker 7: we've been calling we've been calling it football for that long,
- 58:54Speaker 7: and so I think that we should just we should
- 58:57Speaker 7: just stick to our natural American values and just stick
- 58:59Speaker 7: with football and soccer.
- 59:02Speaker 3: Well, you know, obviously the rest of the world is
- 59:04Speaker 3: allowed to call it football, no one is. No one's
- 59:06Speaker 3: arguing it. Sure, but America. But America, like we like
- 59:11Speaker 3: as kids, we grew up with soccer. That was what
- 59:13Speaker 3: we called it.
- 59:13Speaker 7: A ball getting like with it has the like the
- 59:17Speaker 7: pattern the black and white patterns on it.
- 59:19Speaker 3: It's like we call it soccer. And like I see all.
- 59:21Speaker 7: The and it's funny because when I see professional soccer,
- 59:24Speaker 7: the ball is like a white color with like these
- 59:26Speaker 7: like weird colors on it, and I'm just like, why
- 59:29Speaker 7: isn't it like the actual soccer ball for like the
- 59:32Speaker 7: sports soccer is it the white with black like it's.
- 59:37Speaker 3: Like, you know, hexagons, Like, why isn't that's interesting to me?
- 59:41Speaker 2: He Trump didn't say that he's gonna force the NFL
- 59:46Speaker 2: to do it if there's an executive order that comes
- 59:52Speaker 2: out on this, and it's just however, I mean my opinion, yeah,
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: my opinion.
- 1:00:02Speaker 7: My opinion is simply on it is like just like
- 1:00:05Speaker 7: how the Washington Commander fans want their name change back
- 1:00:10Speaker 7: to the Washington Redskins.
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: I just don't think it's gonna happen. Like same with
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: changing the name, Like it's not gonna happen.
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: You don't think it's gonna happen. But should it happen?
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: Should it happen?
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: Should it? I mean I don't.
- 1:00:23Speaker 7: I don't think go ahead, I have to I have
- 1:00:29Speaker 7: to simply say that. I just think that as like
- 1:00:32Speaker 7: I think for America, like we can just call it
- 1:00:35Speaker 7: soccer because we've, like I said, we've been calling it
- 1:00:37Speaker 7: that for years.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: I mean, if they really want.
- 1:00:40Speaker 7: To like change it, I think then the whole world
- 1:00:43Speaker 7: should like call it soccer too, because then it like
- 1:00:47Speaker 7: I don't know, I feel like it should either. You know,
- 1:00:49Speaker 7: it's up to everybody's like opinion. But I guess, like
- 1:00:51Speaker 7: at the end of the day, it's like I still
- 1:00:53Speaker 7: think soccer is soccer.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: Yeah, football football. It's like it's the same sport.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: And the reds are still and the Redskins are still
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: the Redskins.
- 1:01:01Speaker 7: Well if they if they won't, yeah, they wish.
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: Listen, man, we don't like change. We don't like change.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: If just leave leave well enough alone. The the the
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: internet went nuts with this When when when Trump said
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: this and the suggestions that I have found online for
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: replacing the word football here in America the serious contenders.
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: Are you ready for this grid iron?
- 1:01:40Speaker 7: Like football being changed, like the NFL being changed to
- 1:01:43Speaker 7: grid Say that again?
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: God, just the word the word football. Get not using
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: the word football on Thursday nights, we're watching grid Iron?
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: Yeah no, that's that's that's awful. That's awful. Here's here's
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: here's another everything that's terrible.
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: These are the these are the everything. I agree, these
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: are some of the the the name ideas to get
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: rid of the word football, which is never gonna happen.
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: But what what the hell's wrong with this world? You ready,
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: here's the here's the new one. Pig skin.
- 1:02:21Speaker 7: Okay, I I could sort of see it, but it
- 1:02:24Speaker 7: sounds stupid. It is like, I guess it's definitely better
- 1:02:27Speaker 7: than the first one, but it's like.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: Can you action saying, hey, hey, Logan, bring some wings?
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: Did you watch that? Did you watch.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: You watched that pig skin game last night?
- 1:02:42Speaker 7: Dude, Tom Brady is the greatest pig skin player of
- 1:02:45Speaker 7: all time.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Oh my god. Uh. Others are saying that we need
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: to add the word tackle in front of football, or
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: the word American in front of the word football, which
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: no one, No one's gonna no one's ever going to
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: do that.
- 1:03:07Speaker 7: Well, we've kind of all like we you know, when
- 1:03:09Speaker 7: you go to other countries for example, like when I
- 1:03:11Speaker 7: went to Canada, for example, I was like talking to
- 1:03:15Speaker 7: some random guy at the bar about football, and he
- 1:03:17Speaker 7: kept saying he kept referring it to American football.
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: So I feel like every I feel like places, other places.
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: Already kind of already do that like that, I feel
- 1:03:24Speaker 7: like some places already kind of do that. But I
- 1:03:26Speaker 7: mean it is like, you know, we call it the
- 1:03:30Speaker 7: National Football League though, so like the thing is, if
- 1:03:33Speaker 7: we were to do that, we'd have to change the
- 1:03:36Speaker 7: NFL's name to the American Football Association. So the AFA,
- 1:03:42Speaker 7: which I'm pretty sure was the original Yeah, I think
- 1:03:45Speaker 7: it was the original name for a long time.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: But yeah, wish they could do that again.
- 1:03:50Speaker 7: But at the same time, it's like it's called national
- 1:03:52Speaker 7: because have you noticed we've been this year alone too,
- 1:03:55Speaker 7: We went to like Berlin, Germany.
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: They went to.
- 1:04:01Speaker 7: Like Australia too, Like yeah, so we've been we've tooken
- 1:04:04Speaker 7: the NFL, you know, because you know, five years ago
- 1:04:08Speaker 7: it wasn't like that, you know, we weren't we weren't
- 1:04:10Speaker 7: really doing that much, like.
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: We were doing it, but it wasn't happening that often.
- 1:04:14Speaker 7: Now we are doing it, like where per year there's
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: at least one or two games played in like at
- 1:04:21Speaker 7: least six to eight different countries, and now we have
- 1:04:24Speaker 7: like we're expanding to the whole world, kind of like
- 1:04:26Speaker 7: what PIFA has been.
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: Doing for years.
- 1:04:28Speaker 7: Yeah, and so you know, it would be stupid to
- 1:04:32Speaker 7: call it the American Football League, especially if they decide to.
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: Go because because they call it national.
- 1:04:38Speaker 7: So it's like that would defeat the purpose of it
- 1:04:40Speaker 7: being called the National Football League.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: Yeah, comments here the UK actually came up with the
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: name soccer. I'm going to look into that. Dan Alexander says,
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: does it count if you have an ex soccer player
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: for your kicker because he's the best in the league
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: now too. Dan also says, go ahead, Well, there's a.
- 1:05:01Speaker 7: Like, whoever said the comment about soccer was in the UK?
- 1:05:04Speaker 7: They're probably right, Like that's probably very possible. I don't
- 1:05:06Speaker 7: really know my history on soccer like that, but they're
- 1:05:08Speaker 7: probably right. There's like and if that's the case, then
- 1:05:10Speaker 7: but then if that's the case, then why do they
- 1:05:12Speaker 7: Why did the UK not adapt it to soccer.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: They still they still call it football. Yeah, still call
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: it football in the UK.
- 1:05:19Speaker 7: So it's like, that defeats the purpose of you guys,
- 1:05:21Speaker 7: defeats the purpose of you guys calling it that if
- 1:05:24Speaker 7: you are making the name or you know, claiming that
- 1:05:26Speaker 7: you made the name, if you're not going to use it.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: Uh. He also Dan also says he also said something
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: needs to be done with college football and Nick Saban
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: should be in charge of it too.
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: That would be interesting, to say the least.
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: And a beautiful, a beautiful comment here from from John
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: Kidder saying, again, beautifully, screw Tom Brady. Joe Montana is
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: the real goat that is.
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: Yeah, it's very debatable, but I love I love Joe Montana.
- 1:05:58Speaker 7: John, Joe Montana was really good. That's why I but
- 1:06:02Speaker 7: my but my problem here is like same with Steve Young.
- 1:06:05Speaker 7: My problem here is I'm a Seahawks fan, so I.
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: Can't like I can't. I can't like them as much
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: as I want to, I can't. I can't like a
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: player like that.
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: Yeah right, No, But what I just I just got it.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: I just got a text here saying that the inevitable
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: renaming of football will be trump Ball.
- 1:06:31Speaker 7: I will I will actually like move to a whole
- 1:06:33Speaker 7: other country.
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: So I'm not even joking, like I would actually leave
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: this country.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: Bring all right, guys, yeah, bring it. Bring a couple
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: of beers over, let's watch some trump Ball tonight.
- 1:06:45Speaker 7: I feel like that would just be like I I
- 1:06:48Speaker 7: don't you know, It's like it's everybody has their opinion
- 1:06:52Speaker 7: on the guy, but at the end of the day,
- 1:06:54Speaker 7: it's like it's so egotistical to like do that, especially
- 1:06:57Speaker 7: like I've made I've made this clear for you even
- 1:07:00Speaker 7: like before you know, I said this for years.
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: I just don't think politics should be in any form
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: of sport.
- 1:07:06Speaker 7: Yeah, because it's it's like sports, Like I don't like
- 1:07:09Speaker 7: the ideas, like the sudden uprise of sports betting. I
- 1:07:12Speaker 7: don't like it, like I don't like politics. I don't
- 1:07:15Speaker 7: like gambling in like in my sports like it. It
- 1:07:19Speaker 7: really ruins the tradition of it being entertainment. It's it's
- 1:07:23Speaker 7: a sport, not a gambling scheme, not a not a
- 1:07:28Speaker 7: political win scheme. I mean to be fair, Before Trump
- 1:07:31Speaker 7: was considered a politic, or considered himself a politic, he
- 1:07:34Speaker 7: was in the WWE being an entertainer. So it's like,
- 1:07:39Speaker 7: you know, same same thing. I get it, but I
- 1:07:41Speaker 7: just don't. I think I think entertainment to politician at
- 1:07:46Speaker 7: that point. Now that you're a politician, you need to
- 1:07:47Speaker 7: stay away from entertainment.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: One of these one of these days, I have to
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: get you in here. I need you on the couch
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: because I want to talk about Michael Francis and I
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: want to talk about sports gambling, and I want to
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: talk about his his and I think I shared that
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: link to you that that that gambling and fixed fixed
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: outcomes are everywhere. They're every every sport, everywhere.
- 1:08:16Speaker 7: Well, like like this year alone, it was really bad,
- 1:08:19Speaker 7: especially with like what happened with Terry Terry Rogier and
- 1:08:22Speaker 7: Chauncey Phillips with the whole mafia and like gambling scheme
- 1:08:27Speaker 7: and then you've got those two pictures are not pictures
- 1:08:29Speaker 7: but like players from the Guardians, Uh, they got caught
- 1:08:32Speaker 7: in a gambling scheme.
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: And then there was another one.
- 1:08:36Speaker 7: So there's been like three or four big ones alone
- 1:08:40Speaker 7: just in this year alone, and it's like see there,
- 1:08:43Speaker 7: we're not even we we still got we still got
- 1:08:45Speaker 7: what we have about three or four more regular season
- 1:08:49Speaker 7: football games than the playoffs and the NBA just started.
- 1:08:52Speaker 7: We're only we're only twenty games into like the eighty games.
- 1:08:55Speaker 7: We still got sixty something more games left, so you know,
- 1:08:58Speaker 7: there's still so much much time for like that stuff
- 1:09:02Speaker 7: to come out, and so, you know, so far, it's
- 1:09:04Speaker 7: been crazy.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: I don't know if you're if you're following this this stuff,
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: but Joey Merlino, former American mobster, saying the Super Bowl
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: has already been determined the winner not surprised.
- 1:09:19Speaker 7: I mean we've kind of we've kind of known that
- 1:09:21Speaker 7: for we've kind of known, like I mean, it's been
- 1:09:23Speaker 7: pretty obvious at least for the past three or four
- 1:09:25Speaker 7: years now that like the NFL, like for example, like
- 1:09:29Speaker 7: people have been noticing. Like now, it's not always true,
- 1:09:32Speaker 7: but like when I see like the Super Bowl official logo,
- 1:09:36Speaker 7: like when they announced official logo, you'll know because the
- 1:09:41Speaker 7: color the color schemes usually match up to the two
- 1:09:45Speaker 7: teams that are playing in the Super Bowl. So if
- 1:09:49Speaker 7: you pay attention to the actual colors, there's a chance
- 1:09:53Speaker 7: you'll notice a pattern or something and be like, oh,
- 1:09:56Speaker 7: that looks like that's it's possibly this team.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: But like for example, like I think right now, Like.
- 1:10:04Speaker 7: The Patriots like have a really good case of making it, do.
- 1:10:11Speaker 7: I think they're Like I think they're gonna have a
- 1:10:13Speaker 7: hard time getting there because they have like they're gonna
- 1:10:15Speaker 7: have to play Buffalo, They're gonna have to play probably Baltimore,
- 1:10:19Speaker 7: which Baltimore isn't amazing, but they're also kind of making
- 1:10:23Speaker 7: a comeback right now, like the like Lamar Jackson has
- 1:10:27Speaker 7: really brought the the Ravens back.
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: Yeah, so you're gonna be talking about this tomorrow morning
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: right here, right oh god, yes.
- 1:10:37Speaker 7: No, I'll be here tomorrow morning at ten thirty, less
- 1:10:40Speaker 7: than twenty four or just about twenty four hours from now,
- 1:10:43Speaker 7: all right, I'll be there getting ready to chat with
- 1:10:47Speaker 7: you about We're not chat with you, but chat with
- 1:10:49Speaker 7: the people around.
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: Yeah, about what's going on.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: Everyone that's watching listening right now, please tune in tomorrow
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: morning at ten thirty. It's called athletics. It's Logan Loose,
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: the host of it.
- 1:11:00Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: I want to close out this morning with just some
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: of the other names that that I'm finding here to
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: possibly replace the word football in America. Here it is
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: Are you sitting down because I don't want you to
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: faint or anything and hit your head or anything local.
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: All right, here we go, uh, here we go.
- 1:11:19Speaker 7: Uh.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: The next the next possible replacement word would be hand
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: egg deep.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: Breaths, take a deep breaths. I'm sorry, let's come over
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: watch some hand egg.
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: The next one hand egg, I guess because the football
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: looks like an egg.
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: Who's toddler? Who's who's toddlers are making these?
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: I don't know? But but here's the thing. The argument
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: is that you know your football players, you only it
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: only connects with your foot just a little tiny bit.
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: Most of its.
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: Football is just American ball, which American.
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: But they're like you, hardly ever your foot hardly ever
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: comes in contact with the ball, So why are you
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: people calling it football? The next word it was is
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: uh footsie, which I think the I think the I know,
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: I know the Brits, I think the Brince call soccer
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: foot loc Why don't you get over the come over
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: the house tonight, locan will watch some foot see. The
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: next idea would be, uh, here it is Millionaire fight club.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: The next the next there's more fighting in hockey than
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: there is in football.
- 1:13:04Speaker 7: Like that what like like there's more hand to hand
- 1:13:06Speaker 7: combat and hockey like that doesn't make any sense.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: The next word is end zone.
- 1:13:13Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean that honestly.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: That like I'm not gonna lie to you. Out of
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: everything I've heard from you today, like.
- 1:13:22Speaker 7: That has to be like somewhat the most okayest one,
- 1:13:25Speaker 7: Like I have to be like the least.
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: It's not terrible. It's not terrible.
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: The the the the next word is I'm not making
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: this up. The next word is yard ball, because who
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: needs the metric system?
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:13:42Speaker 7: So yeah, so for starters, you're not playing in your backyard.
- 1:13:46Speaker 7: You're playing in a professional stadium that is made with
- 1:13:52Speaker 7: a fancy type of grass.
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: It's not it's not someone's actual backyard.
- 1:13:58Speaker 7: So you know, it's funny they say that because there
- 1:14:01Speaker 7: used to be when I was younger, like probably early
- 1:14:04Speaker 7: two thousands, there was this like video game series literally.
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: Called Backyard Football.
- 1:14:10Speaker 7: As the name implied, it was like it was supposed
- 1:14:12Speaker 7: to be like kind of like a football ish backyard vibe.
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: It was weird. But either way, like that exists, and
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: like that alone was terrible, and it's like, now you
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: got no I like that. I don't. I don't know,
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: It's not about that one the last but not least
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: name here is uh here, it is full contact chess.
- 1:14:40Speaker 7: Just you should have stopped at full contact and I
- 1:14:43Speaker 7: think full contact would have been like least like awful,
- 1:14:47Speaker 7: but yeah, full contact chest.
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: Hey, let's order a pizza and come on over and
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: watch some full contact chess.
- 1:14:57Speaker 7: Hey, guys, did you guys see the full contact chess Championship?
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: Oh my god, you know? And now we you know,
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: and and now we will of course we won't be
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: able to call it the super Bowl anymore. We're gonna
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: have to change that too, so uh, this is crazy
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: super Cup, Yeah, super Cup exactly. There you go. Listen, man,
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: have fun with this tomorrow morning. I can't wait to
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: watch you.
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: Bud. All right, I'm gonna I'm gonna try to run
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: away with this one. But thank you, thank you so much.
- 1:15:28Speaker 7: Like like Jad said before the Athletics podcast, tomorrow at
- 1:15:32Speaker 7: ten thirty am, I will be live.
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: Thank you JD for having me this morning.
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: You got a brother over and out. Man. That's Logan
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: loose right there. He is such a great guy. Loves
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: to laugh, has fun, passionate, loves talking about sports, mostly football,
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: mostly NFL, but basketball too. And you know, I was
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: thinking this last night. Are we getting close to March?
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: We are? We actually are so once once we start
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: getting in like February, Logan's gonna be going nuts about
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: March madness nuts. So if you're a fan basketball, football
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: doesn't matter, Shrilyn, you're with me. Hey, if you had
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: a chance to listen this morning, No, all right, just
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: had a huge conversation with Logan loose. Donald Trump, our president,
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: is proposing he was just at FIFA, got the big
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: piece prize over there. He loves soccer, that soccer is
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: the real football, and that the Americans obviously, and that
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: the American version needs a brand new name. We need
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: to stop calling it. We need to stop calling it
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: football because it's it's not foot You guys call it
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: footsie over there, right, No.
- 1:17:21Speaker 5: Okay, but it's football. Yeah, you guys play How do
- 1:17:27Speaker 5: I put this?
- 1:17:28Speaker 9: A be careful plase passified version of rugby is what
- 1:17:34Speaker 9: you guys call football. You're padded, your padded version of rugby.
- 1:17:43Speaker 9: Do you know girls play rugby in school? That's a
- 1:17:45Speaker 9: pe lesson is rugby without pads?
- 1:17:50Speaker 5: Yeah? And they get paid how much? Mind you? Football
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: players get paid quite a bit too. But I've actually
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: got quite a bit talent.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: Apparently. Uh and it just saw in the comments here
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: that the UK came up with the name soccer. Seriously,
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: that was a comment that came in this morning.
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: It wasn't Australia.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: I don't know Brazil or.
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: The US.
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: Maybe I don't know, But.
- 1:18:36Speaker 5: Well, what say you? What do you reckon?
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: What I reckon?
- 1:18:40Speaker 5: What makes more sense is what makes more sense?
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: Well, I mean, listen, only in America are we going
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: to argue about the name of a game where the
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: ball is rarely kicked?
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:18:56Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: Okay, I mean hey, but still, like Logan was saying,
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: we've been calling it football for over one hundred.
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: Years, Sherlyn, say that again.
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: We've been calling it football for over one hundred years.
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: Leave it alone.
- 1:19:16Speaker 9: Yeah, and pre Sire England is a couple hundred years
- 1:19:23Speaker 9: ahead of that shit.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: I was afraid of you were going to say that?
- 1:19:28Speaker 7: Mm hmmm.
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: Do you have any any names that that you think
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: should be proposed to rename football? So far, the internet
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: is saying grid iron, pig, skin, tackle football, American football, trump, ball,
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: hand egg foot see hand egg, yeah, millionaire, fight club,
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: end zone, yard ball, and full contact chess.
- 1:20:10Speaker 9: Oh my god, I can't call it like American rugby
- 1:20:15Speaker 9: coming because rugby already a thing.
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: Yeah, well, any any proposed names that you want to
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: come up with off the top of your head or
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: do you want to do? You need the weekend to
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: think about it.
- 1:20:31Speaker 5: You know, as soon as I hang up, I'll have something.
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: Of course you will, of course you will. So glad
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: you answered this.
- 1:20:39Speaker 5: Morning, I think, oh gosh, so am I.
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but by now, yeah, football is what it's
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: always going to be called right here in America. Sorry, sorry,
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: not sorry, Well I've shot right now of North Main
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: Street and Perry. It is a beautiful day. I want
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: to thank test Taylor for coming on with me this morning.
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: I want to thank Logan Loose for coming on, and
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: she Sherilyn for coming on, and Samantha Payette talking about
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: Jeep miss and how huge that's going to be tomorrow.
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: It's going to be awesome. And just a big thank
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: you to you for watching, for listening, for having fun
