- 0:00Speaker 1: Sometimes we have to stop the music so Christine and
- 0:02Speaker 1: I get paid. 106.7 FM. It's good morning. How are
- 0:07Speaker 1: you today? We've got some trends returning.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Has it really been that long? So they're coming back?
- 0:13Speaker 3: Everything 90s is new again, Jack.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Just getting rid of 90s stuff in our.
- 0:17Speaker 3: True. A lot of us are.
- 0:19Speaker 2: But HGTV is kind of kicking off this trend a
- 0:21Speaker 2: little bit. They have Totally 90s House. And they're going
- 0:24Speaker 2: in and they're... making over, you know, houses with some
- 0:28Speaker 2: 90s icons like Jaleel White, better known as Steve Urkel.
- 0:32Speaker 2: So some of the things.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Steve Urkel is coming back as a.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Well, not as Steve, you know, the actor. Okay, okay.
- 0:39Speaker 2: He's going to come make over your house. But some
- 0:41Speaker 2: of the takeaways from this, from the pros in 90s
- 0:45Speaker 2: decor that they said we like seeing again. If you're
- 0:48Speaker 2: tired of the black and white trend, warm wood is
- 0:51Speaker 2: back in everything from cabinets to accent walls. Lighter oak
- 0:55Speaker 2: and natural finishes.
- 0:57Speaker 1: That's good news because we've been arguing about our faux
- 1:01Speaker 1: wood cabinets. We wanted to go white, but they're coming back.
- 1:05Speaker 3: We've been doing white. Yeah, my kitchen's white. So which
- 1:09Speaker 3: way do I have to go? Lighter oak finishes.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Are now in. So I just bleach them.
- 1:14Speaker 3: The 90s back again.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Soft seating, because they said living room furniture has been
- 1:18Speaker 2: very sleek and streamlined in recent years, and now we
- 1:21Speaker 2: kind of want the softer cushions and the padding.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Plate walls.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:26Speaker 1: What the heck is that?
- 1:27Speaker 2: They say they can be cheesy and look dated, but
- 1:29Speaker 2: when done the right way, interior designer Paige Garland. says
- 1:32Speaker 2: plate walls can be like a gallery that's anti-collected, just
- 1:36Speaker 2: the right amount of homey.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I'm not sure about that.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'll put pictures on the wall.
- 1:41Speaker 3: You can pass on that.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I'm going to pass.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Wallpaper. Do you remember how big a trend wallpaper was?
- 1:46Speaker 1: My father loved wallpaper.
- 1:47Speaker 3: He put wallpaper on everything.
- 1:48Speaker 1: He wallpapered the light switch covers.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:52Speaker 1: That's how much he was into it. Okay.
- 1:53Speaker 2: So to keep it to a minimum, but wallpaper, yes.
- 1:58Speaker 2: More like accent walls. They're talking about that, which I'm seeing,
- 2:01Speaker 2: which is really, really beautiful.
- 2:03Speaker 1: That's something I always like to do. We painted the
- 2:04Speaker 1: inside of the house. I would always do one wall different.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:07Speaker 3: That's always pretty.
- 2:09Speaker 2: And warm, neutral paint tones are back. So we've been
- 2:11Speaker 2: seeing what they call millennial gray for many years. We're
- 2:14Speaker 2: going back towards buttery yellows and earthy shades.
- 2:17Speaker 3: They're saying the.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Things that you want to leave behind from the 90s,
- 2:21Speaker 2: leave them in the 90s.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Glossy wood sealers. You want everything matte. You don't want shiny.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Furniture skirts and ruffles. Still look old-fashioned and dated. This
- 2:32Speaker 2: is according to the experts.
- 2:33Speaker 3: This is not me. Wallpaper borders.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I remember those from the 90s, big time.
- 2:39Speaker 3: They were a lot of work.
- 2:40Speaker 1: It is a lot of work.
- 2:41Speaker 2: And faux Tuscany. No more jars filled with peppers or
- 2:45Speaker 2: pasta sitting on the shelves. Do you remember sponging?
- 2:49Speaker 3: You would paint.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Yes. I didn't do it. I knew somebody who did that.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Sponged everything?
- 2:55Speaker 1: Sponged it.
- 2:56Speaker 3: It was all those Tuscany colors, so they're saying, yeah,
- 2:58Speaker 3: leave those behind.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Thank you.
