- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Hello, friends, and welcome to episode 38 of the Friends on Football Podcasts.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: I'm one of your co-hosts, Brandon Johnson, and joined with me as always is my good friend, Mr.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: Sean Boyle.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Sean, how are you doing?
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Brandon, I usually sit here and say I'm excited to speak with you.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: I'm not that excited this time.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: I feel like a broken man.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna tough it out.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna give you my best, but I can't guarantee I'm gonna be up to my usual standard.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: How are you?
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: I think you've stole the words from me, Sean.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: I was gonna try to ask if I could lean on you tonight because it's not it's not pretty right now.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: It's not pretty at all.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Uh unfortunately, our team is not doing well.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: We're entering an international break.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Bottom of the table, Sean.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: Not a good time in Tottenham World right now, but no, we'll we'll get through it.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: We will we'll manage, we'll we'll persevere.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Tonight, Sean, uh just want to go over all of the Premier League games.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Obviously, we just hinted on the Tottenham result, and we'll have a little discussion around the US men's national team and the upcoming camp around this September-October window.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: To start, Sean, I will continue our number journey.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: We have number 38, as mentioned earlier.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: The player I wanted to highlight was Ryan Gravenberg, Liverpool player, Dutch player, and simply his reason for choosing 38 was that was the number he wore when he made his debut for Ajax.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Came through the Ajax system and made his debut.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: And then he went to Bayern Munich after Ajax.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: 38 was available.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: He decided to keep 38 and just sort of made that a decision that he was going to keep 38 through his whole career.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: He currently wears 38 as well at Liverpool.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: So not the coolest story, but kind of cool that he did keep that number that he got when he got his first call-up.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: So probably as a slight reminder to him that hey, he he's made it really far and he's he's still getting to honor his his youth through the number.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, really good player, too.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: I've always been a fan of Ryan Gravenberch, especially at Ajax.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: I was a fan of him then.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: I did forget that he had a brief Syn up iron that did not go according to plan for him, but he got the move he wanted ultimately and ending up at Liverpool.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: So I appreciate you shouting him out.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I feel like 38's a number that a box-to-box midfielder type wears when eight is taken.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: You just kind of climb up.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: It goes eight, maybe eighteen, twenty-eight, thirty-eight.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: You're you're working your way up, is what I feel like.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: I believe I think Eve's Basuma when he got to Spurs, eight was taken.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: I think he was 38 for a season before getting the eight shirt.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: So it's kind of that number where the guys who are eights want to wear eight, but if it's not there, you just want an eight in there somewhere.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: We gotta when we get there, I'll be interested to see who we have for 88, if we have any cool players at 88.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: The the the double eight, just doubling down on it.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: We might need to transition to NFL football and talk Michael because it's gonna be tough.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: So we'll cross it when we get there, Sean.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: But to dive in, Premier League recap this weekend.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: We saw all 20 teams playing.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Game started on Friday with a game that probably didn't go exactly how either of us thought.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: Brentford at home to Chelsea.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Brentford winning 3-0.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: Uh first of all, I have to give a hand up.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: I said hand up, Chelsea will not get kept out, Chelsea will score, and they literally did not score.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Kind of crazy.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: I think it's their first game they haven't scored this season.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: They've scoring goals in bounds and got shut out.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: I was right there with you.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: I think I guaranteed goals, which technically was right, but I think I said Chelsea was gonna score a few two.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: I then tried to walk back.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: I said if Jacques Pedro doesn't play, it could end in a draw.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: If he didn't play, it was nowhere near a draw.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: This was I've seen this film before, Brandon, and it was match week one this season.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: This was right out of Brentford's playbook against Tottenham.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: Just a complete, thorough beatdown.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: I would say Chelsea were a little bit better than Spurs just physically.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: I watched Brentford play Spurs in the first game of the season.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Spurs were nowhere near the races.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Chelsea weren't that outmatched physically, but Brentford just do the damn thing at home.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: They're tough to beat.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Keith Andrews says he likes to create chaotic moments, and that's where his team thrives.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: I thought Chelsea also thrived in the chaos.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: This was truly like a Batman begin situation here.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: And Brentford just absolutely smashed him.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: So the only thing that's like alleviating some of the Tottenham pain is that their London rivals also slipped up this weekend.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: So this was a nice start to the weekend in my mind.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: I love seeing Brentford batter Chelsea.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was it was a good start, and not again, not what I expected, but I know you've been asking for more as well from your guy Igor Tiago.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: He gets a goal in this game.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Jaden Anthony looked incredible, really, really impressed me in that game.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: And yeah, it they they were threatening the whole entire game.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: And you've mentioned the chaos from Keith Andrews, and it really showed that team at home, they are a strong, strong side, and probably a lot better than maybe I thought they would be at the beginning of the season, but they've not maybe not had perfect results so far.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: But when it clicks like that, it they're a scary team to play against.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Yannick Schuster came in at center back the last couple of matches because Nathan Collins, who's their captain, has been out injured.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: And I I didn't notice him in the last few matches that he played.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Not saying it was good or bad, but in this one, he really stood out to me.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: He gets an assist for that Jaden Anthony goal.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: He's the one who heads it to him, but also just his defensive work in this game.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Brilliant.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: And he's a 20-year-old who they plucked from RB Salzburg in Austria.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: A guy I hadn't heard of, I'm sure a lot of people hadn't heard of, and it's just what Brentford do.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: They find these diamonds in the rough, they develop them, they get them into a good system and a good side, and a rising tide lifts all ships, and that's what we see here.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: So absolutely really fun to watch for Brentford.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: I know we were both lower on them than we probably should have been in the preseason, but I'm fine with that.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: I'm fine putting my hand up and being wrong if we can get some cool stories like this this season.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and their style of play is exciting too.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: And I and I love the story that you've just mentioned about the center back because that's just Brentford.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: That's what they do.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: They find these guys, they recruit them, they bring them in, they develop them, and then eventually sell them.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: But when they have them, they these guys look like stars.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: And it's great to see a team like that, especially when we're in a league, Sean, where I feel like everyone's just it's the race to spend the most money as fast as possible.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Brentford say, hold on, let's let's take a different route.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: We'll get guys in for cheaper, develop, see what happens, and then sell them for money.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: It's it's great to see.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: So kudos to Brentford.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: Great way to start the weekend for them.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: Sean, unfortunately, Saturday morning, 7 30 a.m.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: game, Tottenham, our Tottenham Hotspur, lose 3-2 at home to Aston Villa.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: Sean, I know before you go crazy and jump off the cliff, we did score twice.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: Our first two goals of the season in the Premier League.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Three three times technically, Brandon.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: We had one goal out.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: That is true.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: Being honest, we did have three in the net.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: We did have three in the net.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: But I I wanna I wanna start you with a positive, if I can, if I can.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm not really picking up that positive if we're honest.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: I would give those two goals right back.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: They shouldn't even count.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: They were garbage time goals, if that's a thing.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Let me know if you've seen this film before, Brandon.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Spurs dominate the first 20.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: They come out, they look they're playing tiki taka, they look brilliant, buzzing, getting shots on net.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Zion Suzuki stands on his head.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Great save after great save.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: This motherfucker.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: I'm just sitting there like, oh, I know he's a good keeper, but please not now, not today.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: What does he do?
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: He stands on his head those first 20 minutes, and then Spurs show their mental fragility.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: They concede kind of an unlucky goal.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: I hate using the word unlucky because I really don't want to bail these guys out, but it was unlucky.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: It's sort of how Villa lost last week, funny enough.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: They talk about serendipity and life and stuff.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, Villa lose because of an injury, they can't replace the guy they played with 10 last week.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: They lose in that fashion.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Tottenham have Mickey Van De Ven suffer a head injury.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: He has to go off the pitch for a minute to change his shirt because there was blood on it.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: If you suffer a head injury, you don't actually need to leave the pitch if you get treatment.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: That's the only time it's acceptable.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: If you get any other kind of treatment on any other body part, you do have to leave for a minute.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: He has to leave to change his shirt with blood on it.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: We can see it in that minute.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: And once we concede at that home ground, it just becomes incredibly toxic, Brandon.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: And I just don't know what to do.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: What where do we go from here?
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: I have two follow-up questions, Sean.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Number one, Mickey Vandeven and the blood on the jersey.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: Now, we could all see when it happened, he got cut and his he's bleeding.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: Why don't when the trainers come out to do the head injury, also just bring a kit with them?
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: And just have him change his kit right there.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Are you putting this one on the trainers?
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: This first goal.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: No, I'll point the finger anywhere.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: No, that's my part two in the question, and I'll give you that in a second.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: But I would think, like, hey, why don't we just bring out the jersey?
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: They have the jerseys right on the touchline.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: They can just pull his jersey out and bring it with them.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: We're gonna need he's gonna need a new jersey.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: Part two, and where I do think we maybe have to point a finger a little bit, Andy Robertson.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: It's the classic, it's the classic saving the ball into your own net in basketball.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: Never turns out well.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: If you're gonna save it, like I say, just hoof it.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: Hoof it down the field.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: He ran out of legs, Brandon.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: He ran out of legs.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: And then in that case, don't save it, Andy.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: So yeah, just give up the corner kick.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: Disaster.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: Disaster decision from him.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: It leads to a goal, which also was a scuffed shot that falls right into Monzombies' feet.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: Tap in.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: And at that moment, I knew my weekend was gonna be a horrible one.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: And I was right.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: So would I I mean you were both wrong predicting a Tottenham win.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: Instantly, as soon as Villa scored, we both knew, all Spurs fans knew, this will end badly.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: The second half, the second goal that Villa score is completely inexcusable from a Spurs perspective.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Goal kick and then just absolutely shambolic defending from the Dutchman.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Van Hecka and Van Deven, just awful to watch.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: De Zerby said as much afterwards.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: He said he didn't speak with the team.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: He told he told all the interviewers I would listen that the second goal cannot happen.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: I'm right there with you, Roberto.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: I will say uh Jackson's the one who scores that goal, Brandon.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: He's gonna get one of my gold stars this week.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: This guy is a guy I've been high on, and he often gets a lot of guff because he uh doesn't finish some golden chances sometimes.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: And listen, that's frustrating.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: We've all been there with a striker that just can't score the easy ones, and you want to kill them.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: But what he does in matches uh goes unnoticed a lot of the time.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: He is an absolute nightmare to deal with for center backs.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: He cooked the Spurs boys all match, his movement is amazing, his holdup play is really good, he stresses the defense in multiple ways, and then he when he plays at Tottenham, he scores goals.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: So I think all in all that's a striker Tottenham maybe should have looked to sign.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Because if you look at who Tottenham had up front, no one was close to Nicholas Jackson.
- 11:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: He yeah, I I have in my notes, I was like, he looked prime.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: When he was at Chelsea, and I was I'll say hand up, like I was not fond of him at Chelsea.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: I was like, dude, this guy misses way too much.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: He is not good enough to be playing on a team like Chelsea.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Goes to Villa, and now he's getting his chance, and he was he looked incredible.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: I know he only scored the second goal, but he had plenty of other chances.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: He's creating, he's winning headers, he's he's just all over the field, and it it looked like a dominant, dominant performance from him, which I only see, of course, when he plays against us.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Now he does score more when he plays against us as well.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: I think his goal rate against Tottenham is the best as opposed to any other team in the league, so that might be why I think so highly of him too.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: Every time I see him, I'm like, Jesus, this guy.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's unplayable.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: But no, Brandon, the juxtaposition from him to our strike force, which was led by Dominic Solanke in the first half, and then Marmoush shifted over to the nine in the second.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, it was a disaster.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: Those guys are nowhere near the level they need to be.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: It could be fitness, it could be transitioning into a new side, whatever the case is.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: It's been a nightmare for Solanke, especially recently.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: But Marmoouche as an out and out only striker in a system is worrisome for me as well.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: Because we talked about it last week.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: He's kind of a nine and a half and not a nine.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: I just look at the Spurs team, and I don't know about you, I don't know where the goals come from.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: I once again think Tottenham played half decent in this match.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: If you look at the numbers, Tottenham dominated opposition touches in the box.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: They dominated shots, they they won expected goals.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: They don't win matches, though.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: And it's because they don't have a guy who grabs the game and says, I'm gonna score goals.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: And it really the whole Saturday afternoon, I was just thinking about how much I miss Harry Kane and Hyoungman's son.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: I'm just sitting there thinking we used to have those two guys, and now we have this absolute shit we watch every weekend.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: We can't find a goal.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: I know you mentioned we scored too late, but I don't honestly I don't even count those.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: No, that's fine.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: And it's funny you said that about Kane and Sonny because I got my wife to watch wake up early and watch the game with me, and she'll watch, but eh, you know, here or there.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: She's a union girl.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she's a union gal, and I and I'll give that to her.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: But she after the game, she's like, damn, we really need Sonny back.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: I'm like, thanks, but like two hours too late.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: Like we could have used him at the beginning of the game, not now, but uh you are correct.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: Like it yeah, it just it's not right.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: And I think, and we'll probably touch on this actually a little bit later with the national team stuff.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: But you bring in a player like Marmoush and on paper he fits well, it looks good, but if the Zerbi's not playing the style that suits Marmoush's game, he can be as good as he wants to be, but if he doesn't fit, it doesn't fit.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: And I'm starting to wonder if that's the issue.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: Kudus, I will say, came on and looked bright in spots, but I don't know if he's a guy that has the legs to do that for 90 minutes yet.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: That's gonna take some time, and he's inconsistent as well.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: But it it there's not the guy we don't have a player, I don't even think, injured, healthy, whatever, that fits how De Zerbi wants his nine to play.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: And that's scary because he can't do anything until January about that.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: It's very scary.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: It's also scary that DeZerby was the one profiling these guys and doing a lot of the business in the window and profile Marmoush as a guy who could play that role.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: And I just don't think that's been proven in his career yet.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: When he was at Frankfurt, he played in the two up top.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: When he was at his best at City, he played next to Holland.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure that I've seen Omar Marmouche be the out and out number nine that Tottenham are going to need him to be.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: Hopefully I'm wrong, but Brandon, I don't know if you caught this.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: Unay Emery said after the match, he said just maybe he was just fluffing us up, but he said how incredibly difficult this match was.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: He said that Spurs, that side, can compete to win a Champions League this year.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: He said, I know they're not in the competition, they can compete to win it.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: I said, Unay, maybe we're still struggling with the English language a little bit because you've been here a while, but it's still not great.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: You know, it's a little choppy.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: Maybe something got lost there and I misheard, but I'll tell you this for free, Unai.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: We can't win a thing.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: I I don't know.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: I want to give credit to Villa.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: They did kill off their chances and deserve the three points.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: I mentioned how Tottenham played well in this match and won some of those statistics.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: None of that matters if you don't score goals.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: We didn't score until it was too late.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: So Villa win what was kind of pegged as the loser bowl of this weekend.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: And now, as you mentioned, Spurs sit bottom for three whole weeks, and then we go to old Trafford.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: Not looking too great at this moment, Sean.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: Let's let's just continue on.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Well, moving on to the 10am window on Saturday.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: The first game we had Everton beating Ipswich 1-0.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Tierno Berry scores again for Everton.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: It was kind of a lucky goal, a little deflection situation.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: But he's but I will say he has been creating a lot of chances for Everton.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: He's looked fantastic.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: I will say this is the one game I think this weekend that I predicted correct.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: So shout out, shout out to me, but I don't think I got anything else right.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: So I'll take this this one nil that I'm ready to go for the weekend, so good job by you.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: But uh yeah, I think Pickford and their defense held up.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Ipswich still struggling to put it together up front, but Everton, that's what they do.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: They they score a goal, they grind it out, and they they come out with a result and they do it again.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: David Moyes decided three points, and for them, I'm sure it's a good way to end the this first part of the season before going into this international break.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I would honestly trade being a Tottenham fan for an Everton fan because it never looks good for Everton.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: I would say they never almost look as good as Spurs do in spells, but they are so much better at getting something out of a game.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Whether that's a win or a draw, when they're not at their best, they find ways to get something over the line, and that's a skill in its own right.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: It takes a mentality, it takes a guy like James Tarkovsky, who assists that goal and then has a great defensive shift that he puts in.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: It takes leadership and mental fortitude, and you acquire that over time through doing it.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: Everton have that in spades with David Moyes, so a credit to them.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: They deserved all three in this match.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: The 67th minute, we did have Abdul Fatawu get sent off for a second yellow.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: It was given for simulation, which is tough.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: It's tough to get sent off that way, especially when you're chasing a game to lose a player.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: That kind of ends the game.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: So if you're Ipswich, you feel like you maybe left something out there.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: I think a draw would have been on the cards.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: At least it's in play those last 20 minutes.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: If you're pushing for it, anything can happen.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: But Everton, like you said, they head into break.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: A happy camp.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's a great three points for them, and unfortunate for Ipswich Town.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: But they're gonna go into the break, not terribly disappointed with the first five games.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're not they have points, they're in the middle of the table.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: They're they're they're okay.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: So not the best result for this game for It Switch, but overall this season I would say has still been a success for them.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Sean, moving on to the next game, we had Brighton beating Arsenal 3-0.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: This game, Brighton, oh my gosh.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: We talked about Brentford earlier in the cooking.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: Brighton, same way.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: Like they when they get rocket at the Amex, that place is special.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: It was their uh 125th anniversary.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: They had the special 125 kit on.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: You like those kits?
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: Clean.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: I didn't love, I did not love the short sock combination with the top, but I loved the actual top.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: I was a little torn.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: I like the top, but I would have loved a little bit of color on the front.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: I thought it was a little bit too monochromatic.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: So but I like them.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: I do like when they change it up and they go to those old school ones.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: So that's that was a good good change of kit for me, and what a performance.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: They should wear those every week.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: They were flying, Brandon.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: And it wasn't that they dominated the control aspect of the game, but anytime Arsenal would try to get control or get the foothold that they usually have in the game, Brighton would find ways to create a turnover in a bad area of the pitch, and they capitalized on it.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: They struck every time it seemed like they left a few out there.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: Arsenal, there was a stretch of this game where Arsenal could not play out, and that's rare that you see the champions up against it like that.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: Like you said, the Amex, tough place to go.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: We both thought Arsenal would get the job done in this one, but I don't think anyone had Brighton killing them in the manner that they did.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: Kustalus, what a player.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: The Greek, the Greek pipeline is coming out.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: They're everywhere, these Greeks.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: They're running amok in Europe, scoring goals, assisting.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: They've got brilliant players to watch, and Kustalis seems to be another one in the Brighton pipeline that is either going to score a million goals for them or go for a hundred million pounds somewhere.
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they they looked great, and I think you you make a good point when you're talking about Arsenal being not being able to play out of the back.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: I just think Brighton were just first to everything, all the second balls, every 50-50, Brighton just looked up for it.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: And maybe it was there was a little extra juice in the game.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: They had the new kit.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: I think they said it was the biggest crowd ever at the Amex.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: Like, there was a lot around this game, but they matched it.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: The the goal from Kustalis, incredible.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: My king Pascal Gross scores again.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: Banger.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: Can't stop scoring.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: He yeah, you would think he's you would think he's a number nine.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: We could use him.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Throw him up front for Tottenham.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: Like, geez, this guy scores goals like a like a true forward, and he's playing as a center mid.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'd kill the roof for a team like Brighton.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: I'd kill Ford.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: No, but but in all honesty, Sean, it was dominant from them.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: And they go into this break in, I believe, third, third place.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: So they well deserved.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: It's been a great start to the season for Brighton.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: And even the game that they they did lose and the draw they had, that was when Verbrugen was like, eh, not great.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: But Verbrugen stepped up in this game, keeps a clean sheet, and Brighton will feel like they can really compete at the top of this league.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, third place on the table and first in terms of most fun to watch consistently throughout this year.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: They bring the vibes every match.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: So as a neutral observer, I credit them for that.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: And in this particular match, as a diehard Brighton supporter, I love the Seagulls.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: Mauled by a Seagull.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: You got mauled by a seagull.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: They just pecked them to death, Brandon.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: I love to see it.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: It was a it was one little glimmer of hope on an otherwise terrible sad day, bad day.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: Speaking of getting mauled, unfortunately, Sean, the next one, Newcastle at home defeats Hall City two to one.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Hull's first loss of the season.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: I think this might have just been Hull forgot that the game started when it did.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: They might have thought the game started 30 minutes later because Newcastle scored their first two goals in 10 minutes and then didn't really do much after that.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: No.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: And I think a lot of that is down to game state.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: So I was gonna come on here and I was gonna say just how many chances Hull City created and how they had like great spells for large stretches of this match.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: But I think a lot of that was because when you go up two goals in seven minutes, your mentality changes as it should.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: It it becomes a more conservative one, and Newcastle were kind of fine letting Hole have those spells and trying to hit them on the counter then.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: Newcastle, credit to them, they got the job done.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: An important three points, a game that would have been easy to fall into a draw, I think, especially with that pressure that Hole City put on late.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: As you mentioned, Brandon, those last 10-15 minutes from Hole, they were throwing everything in the kitchen sink at Newcastle, and they held firm and they were able to keep it to one goal for Hole, get all three points.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: Good job from them.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: Harvey Barnes, two assists.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: He's a guy who's another one who's kind of much maligned.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: Joe Willock is another one who nobody's really super fond of, but he scores in this.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: Lewis Hall, brilliant left back, everybody's a fan of him.
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: He gets the other goal.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: So I think if you're Newcastle, you're absolutely pumped.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: You consider this a really good start to the season now under a new manager, under a period of transition.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: And if they had drawn or lost this game, I think your view shifts going into the break.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: So it does feel like an important one for them.
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: But you also feel for Hole, who get 22 shots off in this match, only four on target.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: So they don't know if they brought their shooting boots necessarily.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: But they had such a great start the season, we can't be too upset.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: No, no, and and yeah, they had a bad 10-15 minutes and then didn't have their shooting boots.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: If that's the worst thing that happens for them this season, fine.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: They'll be back.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: And and they know it, and and they'll be back after this break.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: They go into the break and they're they're thrilled.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: They have to be absolutely thrilled with where they're at.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: They're gonna feel, of course, hard done by this last game, but overall, you look at their first five matches, Sean.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: It's we we named it the whole the whole city team of the week for a reason.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: And yeah, they have shown that they are here to play.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: And unfortunately didn't go their result.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: The result didn't go their way this week, but they are definitely somebody to to not it's not gonna be a walkover.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: It's not gonna be an easy, oh, we gotta go to Hull, that's quick three points.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: No, it's not it's clearly not that this season.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: You're 100% right.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: You're 100% right.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: And I dread Spurs' trip to Hull.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: I'm already thinking about it.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be a nightmare.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: Like just a place you don't want to go.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: Literally into the tiger's den.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Yes, we are lunch or supper whenever the game is played.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: Speaking of promoted teams, Sean, another promoted team.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: They get their first win, the 1230 game.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: Nottingham Forest loses at home to Coventry City.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: I got my Coventry City top on today, Sean.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: Boyle Sports.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: Do you like that?
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, Boyle Sports.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: You're welcome, Coventry.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: Well, sports betting co.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, huge, huge win for them.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: We were worried.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: We said zero points and zero goals going to the international break would be very bad for them.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: They decide to score a goal and get in with three, and it's not perfect, but they're they they have a win on their record, and they're ahead of Tottenham and Fulham.
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: So you gotta be kind of okay if you're Coventry at the moment.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: But both teams in this game honestly really just struggled, I think, to put together a final product.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: There was a lot of half chances and long distance shots, but nothing was really cohesive to me.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: The the goal comes basically a direct goal kick from the keeper.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: Keeper assist, Brandon.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: Keeper assist.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: See, that's what I'm saying.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: Play the ball down the field.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Or stop, say his name.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: Stop playing these cute little dinky passes.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: We love it.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: And DeSilva takes it down and just one quick touch around the defender, and then another touch to finish.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: The touch around the defender.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: I'm saying that lightly.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, that's that was that touch was outrageous.
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: Holy shit, that was a touch of the weekend.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: My goodness.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: An absolutely beautiful touch.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: You did undersell it a bit.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: I'm glad you put your hand up and said that.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: I apologize.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: No, because that touch from DeSova was absolutely absurd.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: And what I loved, Sean, was after that goal went in, you could see the joy on the fans, of course, from the goal.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: The players are going to the corner and celebrating with their Wave fans, and they're, you know, kissing the badge and hitting the badge.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: But I think there just seemed to be this like that sigh of relaxation from Coventry, like, okay, we scored a goal now.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: We have the game in our hands.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: We can do this.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: And they save a goal off the line later.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: Forrest also had a goal called back, a little controversial, but Coventry did what they had to do, and they get three points out of this game, and it's a great, great result for them.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this was just another one I picked wrong, Brandon.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: I almost guaranteed a forest victory.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: I shit on Coventry.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: I spoke ill of Frank Lampard.
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: I knew they'd come back to bite me, and it reared its ugly head once again.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: The Sean Boyle Jinx is alive and well.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: But I do think it was just a huge result for Coventry.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: It's a it's a huge sigh of relief to get something on the board before this break.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: As you mentioned, that was priority number one for them to get all three points, is even a bonus, I would say.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: I think they would have been okay with a point from this match, just going away to force, tough place to go.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: They get all three.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: That controversial goal that was disallowed, Brandon.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: This was a sticking point all weekend.
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: The commentators just couldn't agree on it.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: They'd go to the studio and those guys would have a different opinion too.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: Igor Jesus scored a goal.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: He took the ball off of your guy, Caleb Urankchi, and they didn't call a foul on the pitch.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: Caleb Urankshi gets fouled.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: It was a clear foul, I think.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: But then he stays up for another four or five steps trying to play the ball still, and then ultimately loses it, and Jesus scores it and not even force celebrate.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: It goes to VAR, and VAR rear their ugly head again, Brandon.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: They're those people that when they're not invited to something, they stick their nose in, they say, Oh no, no, no, no.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: You didn't talk about me enough today.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: Here I come.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: And we do see them take the goal away.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: So probably the right decision, but it one that I don't know if there's a right answer to.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: It could have gone either way.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: I think it's almost like you play the advantage a little bit and to see if you can make the play and you call it back.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that was a tough one.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: And I think you have to call it.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: That's what I think.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: I think it should have been called on the pitch.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: Like if the ref saw that, it needs to be called, and I agree.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: Play the advantage.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: If it goes badly, say hey, no, no, there was a foul there.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: The fact that it wasn't, and then we come into the clear and obvious conversation where they nose their head, and that's where I have the issue.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: It's like if it's not called on the pitch, then stick to your rule that it needs to be a clear and obvious error.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: I don't know that that falls under the clear and obvious error, and that's what leads to this discussion.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: I don't know what the right answer is.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: I think you could be right in taking up either side.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: So we'll leave that for people to debate, I guess, but it's an interesting.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know how I feel.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: I don't feel as strongly about this VAR decision as I felt about others.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: I think ultimately what I would stick by is that they the call they eventually got to was the correct call.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: How they got there in the manner that they got there, questionable for sure.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: Uh so if you're if you're forest, of course you feel hard done by, but also if you're forest, hey, score another goal.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: You're playing Coventry, Coventry hadn't scored all season.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: You give up a goal to a team that hasn't scored all year, and then you don't score on them at all.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: So yeah, maybe Forrest deserves a tie, but go score again and actually make it a tie.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it's great, it's a great three points from Coventry, honestly.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: Switching to Sunday, Sean.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: This game, the first game we had on Sunday, Bournemouth and Liverpool.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: Uh, I said Bournemouth's tie streak was gonna come to an end, and it did.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: Uh, they did lose one-nil to Liverpool.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: My guy, Alexander Isak, doesn't do anything great, just a right place, right time goal, and that's what you want from a striker.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, striker's goal.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: What do you know?
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: What a what a novelty.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: What a novelty.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: The striker in the box, where he's supposed to be, finishes a chance.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: I need one of those.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I feel like this game was actually pretty open as well.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Uh, Borendus just couldn't get one to fall.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: And and it brings me to sort of a theme that I saw a lot this weekend, but goalkeepers stepped up.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: I talked a lot of trash to the goalkeepers last weekend, but this weekend, I think they they really stepped up and also looked great for Liverpool.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: We talked about it earlier, and we'll talk about a couple in the the later games here on Sunday.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: But yeah, Liverpool did what they had to do.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: Not necessarily the prettiest result, not the prettiest goal they'll ever score, but you go to a place like Bournemouth, the Vitality Stadium, not again, not an easy place to play.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: Most Premier League stadiums, it's gonna be a dogfight, and for them to come out with three points, they'll be happy, but not necessarily the best game that they'll have this season for sure.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: No, just one where you feel lucky and you feel like it's a good result to get all three.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: Kind of how you said.
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: It was one that neither team was near their best.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: I kind of I watched it and I kind of thought the same thing.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: It was open, but also not fun to watch.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: It was like weekly kind of open.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: Teams would get near the edge of the box, and then the attack would fall apart.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: It wasn't a great game, but to win the game and not leave with a draw away from home is significant for Liverpool, I think.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: It changes their view heading into break of just how their start to the season has been under Areola.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: And if you're Bournemouth, this is being not talked about a lot, I don't think, among the media.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: They are still winless this year as well.
- 31:48SPEAKER_00: They have three draws, so they have three points on the board, but they have not won a match yet.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: And the pressure on Marco Rosa might start to build a little if that doesn't happen soon.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: It's a new manager, things may take time.
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: Three draws out of their first five games isn't the worst thing in the world, especially when you play sides like Liverpool.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: Losing is not the end of the world, but it's just something to monitor.
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: I think Brighton or Bournemouth fans will want to get that first win soon after the break, because the longer it continues, the more the weight of the world feels like it's on you, as we know.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: So you need to keep an eye on that.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: And I also think the manner in which they're losing and tying these games are so rough.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: They're giving up goals late, they're they're in leading positions in most of these games and not being able to finish it off.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: That does linger, like you said.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: And now you have three weeks to sit around and think about it.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: Can you come out of the break and just break it off, figure it out, and just win that first game and move on?
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: Or does it sit around for another four, five, six games?
- 32:47SPEAKER_01: And then, like you said, Rosa, maybe his seat does get a little warmer and things start to pick up, uh, unfortunately, in the negative side, because we've seen it, momentum is so, so key.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: I think Hull probably wrote a little bit of that in their first few games here.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: Not to say that Hull's not a good team, but let's be honest, on paper, they should not be doing what they're doing.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: And I think when you win a game and you win a couple games and you start to have good performances, you start to get that confidence and you believe in yourself and you believe in your team.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: And Bournemouth, unfortunately, just hasn't had that moment yet.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: And with a three-week break, it can kind of sit around.
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: So hopefully they they straighten it out quickly, Sean.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: You're a hundred percent right.
- 33:33SPEAKER_00: You're 100% right.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: And I don't have anything against Bournemouth.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: The cherries seem like a lovely little club, so hopefully they do figure it out and things work for Marco Rosa there.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: I was just a little worried about him heading into the season because I just haven't seen, I guess, enough from him for me to be filled with confidence.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: I don't want to go either direction and say it's gonna be bad necessarily with him, but that's kind of my stance, is like it's an interesting hire because I just don't know.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: And I wouldn't be like locked in on them being very good or very bad under him.
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: It's just something I want to wait and see.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: No, that's I hear you.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: The next game, Sean and I hinted at good goalkeeper play.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: I thought the goalkeeping play was great in this match.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: We had Leeds and Crystal Palace, a nil-nil draw, so no goals, but I thought both Trafford and uh Benitez for Crystal Palace were absolutely excellent in this game.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: And coming into the season, Sean, I mentioned Trafford going to Leeds being one of the best transfers in the last window, and I think he's been showing that.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: I don't think Leeds have as many points as they do without him, and he has just stood on his head time and time again, and this was another example of it.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: Leeds offensively, Dominic Calvert Lewin, still not quite there.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: He'll show spurts.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: He had a very good chance, unfortunately.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: Benitez makes a great save, and I think Palace earns a tough point on the road.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: Tyreek Mitchell does score.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: Uh who my guy again on Team Brandon firing this season, but offside, unfortunately.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: So great goal line up.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: VAR.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: It had to be VAR actually.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: Lino missed it.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was VAR, yeah.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: It was VAR again.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: But but I think I think honestly, this game overall, a draw is probably fair to split the points between the two sides.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: And again, just that goalkeeping play, I think, really, really shone bright in this game.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: Brandon, I'm glad you had some notes on that one because this one for me was the I'm not watching.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: There was three games on this window.
- 35:31SPEAKER_00: I chose for Born with Liverpool on the laptop, and I did Man City Sunder one, which we'll get to in a second, on the TV, which was a great decision by me.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: This one, the only note I had was a 0-0 that I didn't watch was if a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound?
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: It's one of those, it's the most forgettable match end result of all time for me.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: Palace when you get a point away from home, you know.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: No, fair, fair enough.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: It's funny because I was a little bit more on Man City Sunderland and this game, Leeds Palace.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: I Liverpool I had on, but not too much.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: But I I really focused on these two.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: And yeah, again, it's 0-0.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: What do you do?
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: It happened, and you move on.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: Sean, you hinted at the the Man City Sunderland game.
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: Good game.
- 36:18SPEAKER_01: Good game.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: Good, good game.
- 36:21SPEAKER_00: This I would I would also say potentially game of the season vibes.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: Eight goals.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure so far, I would say it's definitely definitely up there.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: I said, look, I said I hate Sunderland.
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: I hope they didn't do anything.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: They proved me wrong.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: They came to play.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: However, they gave up five goals, so they still lost.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: But yeah, City City defense, though, Sean, we haven't really touched on City's defense.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: They didn't look great.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: No, and that's why I'm so worried about City, and I keep reiterating to the listeners.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: I hate reiterating it, but I think Arsenal are still by far the favorites to win this league.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: I know they just conceded three at Brighton.
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: When you watch these two teams, one looks a lot more structurally sound than the other.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: Consistently, City give up these chances, and then they rely on the moments of brilliance from the world-class players, which they haven't spades, but that well does dry up eventually.
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: Guys do hit goal scoring droughts, maybe not Erling Holland, who seems to be foolproof.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: But if you're just predicting what is more stable throughout the course of a season and over time, what will happen?
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: I think Arsenal's approach and Man City's approach, one is clearly more preferred than the other for me.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: And I hate saying that.
- 37:36SPEAKER_00: I'm rooting hard for Man City, and this was a great win for us.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: I'll say that.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: Great win.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: Just a belturf game.
- 37:42SPEAKER_00: Brandon, the Enzo Fernandez free kick.
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: Whoo!
- 37:45SPEAKER_00: You talked about him last week.
- 37:47SPEAKER_00: What a joke of a kick that was.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: 30 second time out, though.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: Are we talking about goalkeeper positioning?
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it should be said.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: I don't, I don't want to, I don't want to hate.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: The goal is a bang.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: The still photo of the the net before the kick.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: It's it is damning.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, can we just work on that a little bit?
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: But no, not to take any credit for Enzo.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: Look, Enzo didn't decide where the goalie stood.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: No.
- 38:10SPEAKER_01: He shot the ball.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: So he stood in the top ends, too.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: Just joke of a kick.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he he, I guess you did mention I talked about him in the previous game, and he's really coming along.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: And a hundred and whatever million dollars they paid, and maybe it was worth well.
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's what I want to bring up too.
- 38:28SPEAKER_00: We'll talk about United in a second, but United needed to revamp their midfield this offseason, right?
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: That was the talk of what they needed to do.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: City needed to do the same.
- 38:36SPEAKER_00: After losing Roger, Bernardo Silva, both Manchester clubs needed to revamp the midfield.
- 38:42SPEAKER_00: Manchester United opted for the cost-effective option.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: They get Yuri Tielemans on a 30 million pound release clause.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: They get Baleba after a really bad season full of injuries and stuff, and he's not yet into this midfield yet because he's working his way back from an injury.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: And then they bring in guys like Andre Santos, and they're nice players, they're good players.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: But what do Citi do?
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: They're title contenders, right?
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: They have all the money.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: They go and sign three basically hundred million pound players.
- 39:09SPEAKER_00: Buadi, who's barely even gotten a sniff.
- 39:12SPEAKER_00: They sign Elliot Henderson because the boy was at a handball on him, which we'll get to in a second.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: They sign Enzo Fernandez world-class players or near world-class level.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: And you see the difference in levels immediately.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: What Enzo could do, you talked about it last week, you see it today.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: That sort of thing is just the difference for me in the levels of those two teams at the moment.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: One behaves like a champion, one behaves like a team that's still trying to pinch pennies.
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: And I just don't know that if you pinch pennies, you're gonna end up where you want to end up.
- 39:45SPEAKER_00: So we'll get to United in a second, but boy, was this City game fun, Brandon.
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: We have to mention Bryant Brobe too, for Sunderland.
- 39:51SPEAKER_00: Hat trick.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: None of the goals are spectacular, but it's again a striker doing striker work.
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: He's so good in holdup play, he's physical as shit.
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: He's like Romella Lukaka.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: He'll grab you, he'll hold you, he pins you to his backside, and then he makes the run into their appropriate channel and he finishes chances.
- 40:08SPEAKER_00: It's great work from him.
- 40:09SPEAKER_00: A really good fight from Sunderland, kind of a free hit, away to city.
- 40:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we're gonna go give him a punch.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: And they punched.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: They did.
- 40:18SPEAKER_01: Now I have two things I want to bring out.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: First, uh Semenyo's brace.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: I feel like Semenyo not getting a lot of love.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: Not necessarily from us or for us, but in the media, he scores two goals.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: They're not the easiest goals, they're not necessarily the most difficult goals, but he's always been a player that's been right there, but the finishing product is off, and it's not perfect, sort of like how Doku is, honestly, as well, who's also on their team.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: But he comes through with a brace, and it's like in a game like this where Holland wasn't great, no, he gets a he got Holland basically gets a tap in, and and that's it.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: But Semenyo, like these other guys coming along, your guy, Cherky, scores a goal.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: Like, I I know you said Arsenal do have the better structural way to play and the best better system.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: I and I don't disagree with you there, Sean.
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: But the quality in City's team, where it's like you can get a brace from a guy like Semenyo, like, can that I I think that might be able to carry you.
- 41:22SPEAKER_00: I hope.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: I hope it can.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: But when I think of it, I kind of think of it how I think City, you could easily make the argument Sunderland were the better side in this game.
- 41:32SPEAKER_00: They won on XG pretty convincingly.
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: They had a really good shout at a penalty for that Elliot Anderson debacle reference.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: He literally swaps the ball with his hand.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: If a Spurs player did that, he'd still be in prison.
- 41:44SPEAKER_00: I I I don't know how that's not even looked at by VAR.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: That's what I mean.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: They don't pick their ugly.
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: Where's where are they then?
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 41:51SPEAKER_00: Igor Jesus makes a tackle.
- 41:53SPEAKER_00: We are all over.
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: No, they were busy watching that one.
- 41:55SPEAKER_00: That's what happened.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: That's what I mean.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: What are we doing?
- 41:57SPEAKER_00: So there's a little bit of inconsistency because that to me feels more clear and obvious than a tackle where the guy's still on his feet for a few seconds.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: That's what it's a weird one, but this is a game at home where City felt like they had no defensive control.
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: They conceded three, they almost conceded four without even the handball shout.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: Ruben Diaz had an aerial bicycle click kick clearance off the line.
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: So that's four goals at home that they could have conceded.
- 42:23SPEAKER_00: Yes, Arsenal conceded three to Brighton at the Amex.
- 42:25SPEAKER_00: Brighton are one of the best teams in the Prem this season.
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: That's a different beast, in my opinion, than playing Sunderland at home.
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: So I just think, and I hate it, but I think over the course of the season, Arsenal feel like they have much more control in their games to this point.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: Maybe with the most recent result withstanding, than City do.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: Even some of the ones City have won.
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: They were losing to Bourne with really late in the game and took a couple of really good goals to win that one.
- 42:48SPEAKER_00: It just feels like they rely on these moments of brilliance.
- 42:51SPEAKER_00: I hope it lasts for 38.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: I think it might last for 30.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: In those eight games, you might be up a creek.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: No, I and I'm just having banter with you because I don't think I necessarily disagree.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: But it's just like the quality is so high that to me it's almost like, how do they not put it together?
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: And and especially defensively.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: Like we talked, you talked about the defense right there.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: They gave up three, could have easily been four, maybe even five.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: And it's like, hold on, there's still a hundred million, two hundred million on the back line as well.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: And Donna Ruma in net, like one of the best in the world.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: So it's like, how are we gonna give up goals like this?
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: And and Enzo Moreska said after the match he would rather win one nil.
- 43:29SPEAKER_00: He was like, this was not fun.
- 43:30SPEAKER_00: Not fun.
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: Rather win one nil.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: Which is which is a funny statement because they score five, but it's just I don't know that that was as controlled as any city fan would have wanted.
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: And I think we've seen that a few times so far this season.
- 43:44SPEAKER_00: And hopefully these brilliant players keep doing brilliant things.
- 43:49SPEAKER_00: I just think if you're if the gambling, the odds makers they would agree with the more stable, disciplined, uh controlled approach than this kind of Yeah, let's roll the ball out.
- 44:01SPEAKER_00: You know, let's see who scores more.
- 44:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the last question I have for you, and this was a sort of a fun one off the cuff, but Brian Broby scores a hat trick, like you mentioned, Sean.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: Does he keep the match ball in a loss?
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's tough, Brandon, because usually if you score a hat trick, you're a winner.
- 44:17SPEAKER_00: I I would normally say no, but because I felt like this is a free hit for Sunderland, it's kind of good vibes.
- 44:22SPEAKER_00: I think the Sunderland fans were happy to go there and even lose, but score three, eight goal thriller.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: I think because of that, yeah, keep it.
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: Keep it.
- 44:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, what you get to say you scored three at the end you had.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: How many did City score?
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, who cares?
- 44:34SPEAKER_00: I'm not a center back.
- 44:34SPEAKER_00: What do you want, mate?
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:38SPEAKER_00: I only control the other end of the field.
- 44:40SPEAKER_01: That's not my side.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: Wait right back there.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: I don't know what they're doing.
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: No, fair enough, fair enough.
- 44:46SPEAKER_01: Because you're right, it's it's weird because every time you see a hat trick, I feel like it's the team that wins.
- 44:51SPEAKER_01: And there's always a clip in the locker room where the guy passes the ball around and the other guys are signing it for him.
- 44:56SPEAKER_01: But do you do that at in a loss?
- 44:58SPEAKER_01: I I don't know if I've ever seen, I've been around this game for such a long time.
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: I don't know if I've ever been involved in a game where a guy on a team that I was with had a hat-trick and we still lost.
- 45:08SPEAKER_00: So I don't I don't know what the protocol is.
- 45:10SPEAKER_00: I yeah, I don't know what the protocol is either.
- 45:12SPEAKER_00: It's a great question by you.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: It's another one where I don't know if there's a right or wrong answer.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: It's kind of just up to that person's discretion.
- 45:19SPEAKER_00: Me personally, you're gonna be hard-pressed to see me handing that ball anywhere else.
- 45:22SPEAKER_00: That one's probably making its way home.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: That's probably right behind us as we podcast.
- 45:27SPEAKER_01: If I can't, Kitman, grab this for me.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I yeah, we gotta get this one back to our place.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: Not my fault.
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: The keeper was out to launch when Enzo took a free kick.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: No, fair enough.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: Fair enough.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: And you hinted on the last game, Sean.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: Let's just dive into it.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: Full at Manchester United.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: Fulham, Fulham get a draw from this game, 1-1.
- 45:48SPEAKER_01: Fulham, I think it's a good point from them, but I think it's a little unlucky for them not to get all three.
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: They give up a goal in the 89th minute from a uh deflected shot by Mateus Cunha.
- 45:58SPEAKER_01: But they also had chances to get more goals.
- 46:01SPEAKER_01: I thought Lymans had a great game for United.
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: Again, we talked about this goalkeeping thing.
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: They heard me last week.
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: They heard me bashing him last week.
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: They all stepped up.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: Uh, I thought he did well.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: The only- I mean, the only goal Fulham scores is Lisandro Martinez scores on his own net.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: So Lemons thinks his boys got him and he doesn't even have him.
- 46:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they didn't even score a goal Fulham, but I agree with you, they were the better team, and I think they should feel hard done and not get all three.
- 46:25SPEAKER_00: Especially when the manner they could see late in the game.
- 46:27SPEAKER_00: I'm right there with you.
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: Lamons was really good, Brandon.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: I had in my notes, there was a stretch of this match where through Fulham's left-hand side, Jedi Robinson was a part of this.
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: He puts in one of the crosses I'm referring to, but they put in two perlers of balls, and Lamons makes two really good saves on them.
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: Maybe the strike should have been a little bit better and maybe a little bit less right at him for one of them, certainly.
- 46:49SPEAKER_00: And Josh King, who was guilty of one of these strikes, he also gets booked for simulation.
- 46:53SPEAKER_00: Apparently he's earning a reputation for simulation.
- 46:55SPEAKER_00: That's what the announcer said on the broadcast.
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we don't like that.
- 46:58SPEAKER_00: Olympic diver.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: But he's a promising young kid.
- 47:02SPEAKER_00: No, no place in the game for that, Josh.
- 47:04SPEAKER_00: Please grow up.
- 47:05SPEAKER_00: But you mentioned the Lissandro Ongle.
- 47:08SPEAKER_00: He had the audacity, Brandon.
- 47:10SPEAKER_00: He almost looked at Laman's as if like it's your fault.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: And then he thought better of it.
- 47:14SPEAKER_00: He's like, well shit, I really can't pin this one on him.
- 47:17SPEAKER_00: But his first instinct was blame others.
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: And as somebody who listen, I play pro clubs on FIFA.
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: I'll point the finger with anyone, but at a certain point, when you do that level of a stinker of an own goal, you do need to toss your hand up for some accountability.
- 47:31SPEAKER_00: And he was not looking to his immediate reaction was keeper.
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: And then as he felt the eyes on him from his teammates, he was kind of like, Alright, yep, that a little bit of me.
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: But it was it was an interesting one.
- 47:44SPEAKER_00: And I had another note, Brandon.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: I think Manchester United stink.
- 47:47SPEAKER_00: Now listen, do I live in a glass house?
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: Yes, of course.
- 47:52SPEAKER_00: My team reeks.
- 47:53SPEAKER_00: But I think Todd might even be better than Manchester United, at least visually.
- 47:56SPEAKER_00: Like we play some good, but we just can't score.
- 47:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:59SPEAKER_00: You guys kind of just stink.
- 48:01SPEAKER_00: It's not even like that fun to watch, kind of stink.
- 48:04SPEAKER_00: It's I don't know.
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: Michael Carrick, he said, fine result.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: Obviously, the expectation's higher at United, but a draw away from home's not gonna kill you.
- 48:13SPEAKER_00: It might kill you, Michael.
- 48:14SPEAKER_00: It might.
- 48:15SPEAKER_01: I'm glad you said this because I had obviously United finishing second in this league and was very, very high on them in the preseason, but they have not shown it at all.
- 48:25SPEAKER_01: I think the one game uh where Bruno has the hat trick against Ipswich Town, I was like, all right, these boys can play a little bit, but other than that, they have not looked great whatsoever.
- 48:35SPEAKER_01: And this is another example of it.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: They luckily sneak away with a point, Sean, but easily could have left Caven Cottage with zero.
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: And it it just isn't coming together.
- 48:47SPEAKER_01: And I I I don't know if you remember this, but a few years ago, I don't remember who the manager was at this time.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: It might have been Ole Got a Solshaw or one of these other, you know, quick, quick in and out guys that they had.
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: They it kind of came out that Manchester United was trying to penny pinch.
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: They like cut some, I think they cut maybe some PTO or something from like the front office workers and some other like random, random stuff.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: And people are like, You guys are Manchester United.
- 49:11SPEAKER_01: Talk about one of the biggest global brands out there.
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: People who don't even know football know Manchester United still.
- 49:18SPEAKER_01: And maybe there's some financial stuff in the background creeping and and it's still there because you mentioned it with the uh budget build of the midfield, and I think it's good savvy business for a team like Brighton or Bournemouth who don't have hundreds of millions to spend, but you have money.
- 49:37SPEAKER_01: Like or or or or is Bruno on 400 grand a week and you can't pay anybody else?
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: I don't know what it is.
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: And even if you don't have money, Brandon, maybe maybe they are cash-trapped, and I'll get to your point in a second because I think it's a good one.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: I think they have expectations no matter what.
- 49:51SPEAKER_00: And those expectations are not matched with the level of quality in this squad.
- 49:55SPEAKER_00: I think they were unrealistic and they're blown out of proportion just because of the name Manchester United and where they should be as a club.
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: It's the biggest club in the Premier League in terms of firepower and fandom across the world.
- 50:05SPEAKER_00: It is Manchester United won.
- 50:07SPEAKER_00: And they just haven't been anywhere near that in the last decade.
- 50:10SPEAKER_00: And what you're referring to, it's when Ineos, the company, took over, read by led by Sir Jim Radcliffe.
- 50:16SPEAKER_00: He comes in, they fired the lunch ladies.
- 50:18SPEAKER_00: It was a whole big thing.
- 50:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they sacked, they sacked the ball boys, the lunch ladies, they're they're going after all the wrong people.
- 50:24SPEAKER_00: And you're right, it was like budget cuts, but in like an inhumane type of way.
- 50:28SPEAKER_00: And I think they are kind of in I don't know if it's low-key, because a lot of people that's what a lot of British media spends most of their time on.
- 50:36SPEAKER_00: They're still a train wreck.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: And there's a very real chance that Michael Carrick is not the manager for much longer.
- 50:42SPEAKER_00: I know that might be harsh, but it's also a guy who was an interim.
- 50:45SPEAKER_00: We can't forget that.
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: He took over as an interim.
- 50:47SPEAKER_00: And when you hire an interim, there's always a little grace period.
- 50:51SPEAKER_00: Or almost always.
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: Sometimes an interim goes tits up and it's a disaster.
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: But other times it works for a little bit of time, but it's not the guy you hired long term.
- 50:59SPEAKER_00: You didn't vet this guy for years and want him to be your coach for a five-year project.
- 51:04SPEAKER_00: You brought him in in a time of need.
- 51:06SPEAKER_00: He did really well in galvanizing that group, but how does that translate to taking the next step and doing it sustainably over the course of seasons?
- 51:14SPEAKER_00: I don't know that Michael Kerrick's the man for the job.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: I think he seems like a nice guy.
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: I don't have anything bad to say about him.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: I'm kind of rooting for him, but just nothing that I could point to that's like, oh, you know what?
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: That's something to inspire us.
- 51:27SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen any of that yet.
- 51:29SPEAKER_01: But my and I don't disagree with you necessarily, but who is that guy?
- 51:34SPEAKER_01: Because obviously you have Sir Alex Ferguson who retired at this point, probably at least 10 years ago, and they haven't really done much since then.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: And again, a club with this global firepower, and they could call pretty much anybody in the world and say, hey, come coach us, is there somebody they should be trying to get?
- 51:53SPEAKER_01: Is there a name that you want to throw out there?
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: Or is it just a matter of they just need somebody better than Carrick?
- 52:00SPEAKER_00: It's weird, because Karrick's resume, if you just look at Carrick, if he'd never played for United, would he be the United manager right now?
- 52:07SPEAKER_00: I would say no.
- 52:08SPEAKER_00: From his managerial resume.
- 52:09SPEAKER_00: Probably not.
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: I don't think it's up to standard.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: So my thing would be, I don't know who the name is, but there are guys who are doing it in Europe right now.
- 52:19SPEAKER_00: At whether they're a young manager, an emerging one, or guys that are proven commodities.
- 52:23SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of guys that are doing it at a high level in Europe.
- 52:26SPEAKER_00: I would make all those guys say no before I settle on a guy like Michael Carrick.
- 52:30SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 52:31SPEAKER_00: And maybe this is being harsh because I really my my full view of it, I don't think it's just Carrick's fault.
- 52:35SPEAKER_00: We just talked about Ineos and the ownership.
- 52:37SPEAKER_00: That's to blame as well.
- 52:39SPEAKER_00: Michael Carrick isn't the one who pinched pennies and sacked the lunch lady.
- 52:43SPEAKER_00: He's not the one who bought Tielemans for 30 million as opposed to going out and signing a world-class midfielder in their prime.
- 52:49SPEAKER_00: It's not his fault, so it's not all down to him.
- 52:52SPEAKER_00: He's just the one who has to wear bear the brunt of it because he's the current manager.
- 52:56SPEAKER_00: So I think their problems go much deeper than him.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: I just think if I'm Manchester United, you're the premier brand in the Premier League, you need to make a lot of guys say no before you settle on Michael Carrick.
- 53:08SPEAKER_01: And I wonder if this Ineos issue that you're speaking of are scaring some managers away.
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: Could be.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: Sort of like the Tottenham experience, where when Daniel Levy was in charge and it was like, it's gonna be Daniel Levy's way, and he's only gonna spend ten dollars of transfer budget, turret transfer window, figure it out.
- 53:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, good managers, like I don't really want to coach there.
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: That that doesn't sound appealing.
- 53:33SPEAKER_01: So maybe there's some of that as well.
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: Completely fair, yeah.
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: I think the whole thing is kind of a shit show.
- 53:38SPEAKER_00: And it's all relative in terms of expectations too.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: If you like Manchester United finished third last year, really good season.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: And they could finish fifth or sixth or fourth this year, but Manchester United want to compete for titles, and when you see your crosstown rivals competing or winning titles each year, it's gotta be just killing you.
- 53:56SPEAKER_00: And I don't know that I've seen anything this season that I would point to as a beacon of hope.
- 54:02SPEAKER_00: It's all been kind of just more of the same for me.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: Inconsistent Manchester United, not the Manchester United I grew up when I first got into the Premier League knowing.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: You know, used to strike fear, you nobody wanted to go to old Trafford.
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: You know, like oh god, we have to we have to face Ronaldo, Rooney.
- 54:18SPEAKER_00: Now it's like, okay, Bruno's a great world-class player.
- 54:22SPEAKER_00: Who else?
- 54:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, not much.
- 54:25SPEAKER_00: You know, like yeah, I don't know.
- 54:27SPEAKER_00: I don't know starting every match of center back on the selection.
- 54:31SPEAKER_00: Like I'm not saying Harry McGuire's a bad player, but he should have somebody challenging him in the squad.
- 54:38SPEAKER_03: You know.
- 54:40SPEAKER_01: No, it and it's a fair conversation.
- 54:42SPEAKER_01: I think it's one that we'll definitely revisit as the weeks continue, if these results continue, because I I know neither of us are necessarily Manchester United fans on paper, but like you said, the global brand and the global reach of that team is I would argue it's Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United.
- 54:59SPEAKER_01: They're all in that top three range, and it's like for them not to be doing well, it's it's like they're they're settling.
- 55:07SPEAKER_01: You know, you you want a good Italian meal and you end up at the Olive Garden.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: It's like uh the breadsticks are good, but this ain't fine dining, Sean.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: So you gotta figure that out.
- 55:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's your exact great comparison.
- 55:22SPEAKER_00: Olive Garden FC.
- 55:24SPEAKER_00: And I don't think it's a bad one.
- 55:26SPEAKER_00: I honestly there we could do a whole show, and maybe we'll put a pin in this and revisit it over one of these international breaks or something, but there's a lot to unpack with United, and we don't know all the details.
- 55:35SPEAKER_00: I certainly don't.
- 55:36SPEAKER_00: I do remember the takeover changed some things, and I know for the last 10 years it hasn't been up to standard, so maybe we can unpack some of the reasons as to why that's the case.
- 55:45SPEAKER_00: But Brandon, quickly, if you'll allow me, yes, as we move out of the Premier League, I did have a couple European updates just on the games I mentioned that the listeners should watch.
- 55:54SPEAKER_00: Roma, my Romans, right after Tottenham.
- 55:58SPEAKER_00: I pick myself back up off the mat.
- 56:00SPEAKER_00: I say, I'm gonna do it.
- 56:01SPEAKER_00: Roma's gonna Roma's gonna make my day.
- 56:03SPEAKER_00: They go up two in the first 20, Brandon.
- 56:05SPEAKER_00: Manu Kone, brace, love in life.
- 56:08SPEAKER_00: Dabal is pulling all the strings, virtual assists for both, hockey assists for both.
- 56:13SPEAKER_00: He starts the moves.
- 56:15SPEAKER_00: They slowly bled and drew 2-2.
- 56:18SPEAKER_00: Just two gold.
- 56:20SPEAKER_00: They were hanging off for dear life by the end of this match.
- 56:22SPEAKER_00: It was a disaster in the second half.
- 56:24SPEAKER_00: They needed to kill the game off of the third goal and they just couldn't find it.
- 56:26SPEAKER_00: So that was frustrating.
- 56:28SPEAKER_00: In the old firm, Darby Brandon, Rangers beat Celtic to move within two points.
- 56:34SPEAKER_00: That is the second time in eight days that Rangers have beat Celtic.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: They also beat them 3-0 in the cup, knocked Celtic out of the League Cup, and all the momentum has kind of shifted in Scotland.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: It started off, it seemed like a foregone conclusion through seven games that Celtic were going to win the league.
- 56:48SPEAKER_00: They've won every league since 2021-2022.
- 56:51SPEAKER_00: This appears like it could be heading in a different direction.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: The vibes have certainly shifted.
- 56:55SPEAKER_00: We'll keep monitoring that.
- 56:57SPEAKER_00: And then lastly, I didn't preview this one, but I did mention a couple weeks ago that it was upcoming.
- 57:02SPEAKER_00: The Madrid Derby was, of course, chaos.
- 57:06SPEAKER_00: Atletico Madrid 2, Real Madrid 1, and Jose Moureno has flown off the handle.
- 57:13SPEAKER_00: He absolutely unreal scenes in the press conference, Brandon.
- 57:18SPEAKER_00: He brings receipts.
- 57:20SPEAKER_00: He says, I'm bringing pictures with me for two instances where the ref should have sent off an Atletico Madrid player, one of which was Kuti Romero, the other was Lee Kang in.
- 57:29SPEAKER_00: There's a couple of challenges that Jose had a problem with.
- 57:31SPEAKER_00: He ends up having one of his own guys sent off.
- 57:33SPEAKER_00: Dean Housen gets sent off in the 52nd minute, and immediately it's it's a penalty that he gets sent off with.
- 57:39SPEAKER_00: Grimaldo converts, Jonathan David scores the second.
- 57:43SPEAKER_00: It's 2-0 Atletico Madrid before an end-of-game kind of charity goal for Antonio Rudiger, making it a 2-1 final.
- 57:51SPEAKER_00: They are now six points behind Barcelona, Brandon, and a point behind both Betis and Atletico.
- 57:56SPEAKER_00: It's getting dark early in terms of La Liga title hopes for Real Madrid.
- 58:00SPEAKER_01: Thank you for that, Sean.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: It's scary times.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: I know we have some Real Madrid fans that listen to this.
- 58:06SPEAKER_01: My good friend Jim is one.
- 58:08SPEAKER_01: I haven't really talked to him about it too much, but I'm sure he's not he's not thrilled.
- 58:13SPEAKER_01: I also wanted to add, well, on the La Liga subject, did you happen to see Real Bettis did a the the walkout, the mascot walkout that they do before the games?
- 58:24SPEAKER_01: Usually it's children, sometimes children of the players, local community kids.
- 58:28SPEAKER_01: Instead, Bettis flipped it and they pulled 11 of their oldest supporters.
- 58:33SPEAKER_01: It was uh and I and I apologize because I don't have the official title in front of me, but it was like the National Elderly People Day or something of similar in the region, and they took 11 of their fans out with the players during the walkout, and you could just see the joy on these people's faces that they got to walk out with the players.
- 58:53SPEAKER_01: Sean, it was a beautiful, beautiful scene.
- 58:55SPEAKER_01: Bettis, a team I don't know a lot about, honestly.
- 58:59SPEAKER_01: We've talked about them various times in this podcast, and I'm starting to like these guys.
- 59:04SPEAKER_01: It's that's that's just great to see.
- 59:06SPEAKER_01: I I love when we challenge the status quo a little bit.
- 59:09SPEAKER_01: It's like, why not?
- 59:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, why not bring the older people out, celebrate them a little bit too, and and give them a chance to walk on the pitch.
- 59:16SPEAKER_01: So something I saw this weekend, I thought that was really cool.
- 59:18SPEAKER_00: I wanted to share 100% with you, Brandon.
- 59:20SPEAKER_00: And I would encourage you, if you're gonna pick a La Liga team, join me.
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: I I'm I'm a rail betist guy through and through.
- 59:25SPEAKER_00: I can't say I obviously Tottenham are my one, Roma are two, and there's a pretty big gap, but are a ton of fun to watch.
- 59:33SPEAKER_00: They're they're kind of similar to Roma and Tottenham in a lot of ways, where they're in a big city, but they're not the biggest club in the city, and they're kind of that they're in the city, you know, they're they're real people in the city that are fans of this club, and Seville is Sevilla is where a lot of the other people are fans of.
- 59:51SPEAKER_00: So they that's a great derby to get into.
- 59:53SPEAKER_00: The Seville Derby is unbelievable.
- 59:55SPEAKER_00: By all accounts, the city of Seville is lovely to visit if we ever do make a trip abroad.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_00: And this was a great touch as well.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_00: This was a great touch, and I love seeing it.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_00: At first, I saw them walking out, I was like, what is going on?
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_00: I didn't know that.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_00: I was like, what's happening?
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_00: And I did do some digging and saw what you saw.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_00: So I'm glad you brought that up.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: That's like uh like grandparents' day when you're in elementary school, you bring your grandparents in to school for the day.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_01: Sean, before we get into the last portion of our episode tonight, I just wanted to highlight.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_01: I didn't bring any MLS games to the table in our last episode, but the Kansas City Philadelphia Union game.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_01: I I know obviously I'm a Philly guy, Sean, and I gotta harp on Philly, of course.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_01: But Philly goes Philly goes down 3-0 in the first half.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_01: Have you seen you gotta go the you gotta go watch his highlights?
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_01: The guy Andre Luis on Kansas City, the new guy they just signed.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_00: I never heard of him until this match.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: And then I did a little digging, Brandon.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_01: Wow, what a player, what a player.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_01: I and look, I I'm a union guy, you know that, but oh my god, he made them look stupid in the first half.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_01: This guy was different gravy, Sean.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_01: It was wild.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_01: You can go into halftime down 3-0, and you're like, all right, well, maybe this is Ryan Richter's first loss.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_01: It's fine.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_01: You know, they're eight, they've won their last 10 games, they won eight and drew two.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_01: All right, they're due for a loss.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_01: Nah.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_01: Come out in the second half, score four goals in 10 minutes, including one from our king, Kevin Sullivan, to go on and win the match four to three at Kansas City to go into this uh break, which is not really a break because the unions still play next weekend.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_01: We'll get that's that's neither here nor there.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, MLS.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_01: But but to end this little period of time uh on an 11-game unbeaten streak, they're flying right now, and it was it looks like a party in Philly right now for these guys.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_00: Brandon, I have to just say it.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna I'm gonna jump the shark a little bit here.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_00: Erect the statue, Ryan Rickard.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_00: And maybe Kavan too, but Ryan Rick.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: Can I ask, who was the manager before him?
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_00: Bradley Cartinell.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_00: He I don't want to speak ill.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_00: I I don't know the man.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, be careful.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_01: He was he was coach of I believe he was coach of the year last year in the union won the supporters shield.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_01: And he he did well.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_01: He was at uh St.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_01: Louis before he he was like their inaugural coach.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_00: When they came in, he was there, right?
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_00: And they had a great season.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_00: And I kind of knew he had some accolades, so that's why I didn't go too hard on him.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_00: What was he doing with this group?
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_00: I don't know to start this season, Brandon.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_00: There should be a case, we should do an episode on that too.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because what are we talking about?
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_00: What are we talking?
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_00: What are we talking about?
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_00: It's like they brought in a whole new team of players after the World Cup, and they're they're unbeatable.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, before they couldn't they couldn't win a match at all.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_00: They had one win in what 17 or something?
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yes, they've not lost in 11.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_00: I mean it's night and day.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_00: I don't there needs to be an exploration.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_00: Maybe Bradley got caught up in some financial ruin and had to salvage it somehow, but boy oh boy, that was uh it's been unbelievable from the union, and that was a crazy result this weekend.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I just wanted to bring that in, and it does transition us well because we received some questions about the national team, and I think it's a good way to end this episode, Sean, as we go into this international window that begins, I guess technically, Monday, September 21st.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_01: Players are starting to report to camps.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_01: We got a few a few questions from from one of my good friends, Trey, and I'll just read them and we can kind of break them down as we want to break them down, Sean.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_01: First question What do you think should be the points of the international window like this one?
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_01: What do you want to see out of it?
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_01: What does US soccer want to see out of it?
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_01: And what would make it a success or a failure to you?
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_01: I guess we can start off with what's the point of this international window?
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_00: First of all, great questions, Trey.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_00: Keep them coming.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_00: Good stuff from you.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_00: You get a gold star this week, too.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_00: I I think the point of this window, Brandon, and all friendlies, I guess, especially when you're starting a new World Cup cycle, I would say most countries are using this window to kind of explore their player pool.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_00: We saw Jürgen Klopp with Germany.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_00: He actually named two 20-man squads, two big squads for the German matches, and he's gonna split them up pretty evenly to get just a bunch of guys in the camp and see what he has.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_00: That's a new manager taking over a new cycle.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_00: And honestly, it's kind of similar with Pachettino because he's not had a full cycle yet.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_00: So I think for me to answer that first question, it's just an exploratory phase.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_00: I think they're just trying to get people in that maybe haven't been in before or haven't cracked into the team yet, and they're seeing what they have with some good competition on paper.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_00: And I think since each country's in a similar boat, you're gonna get teams playing pretty hard in these friendlies.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_00: Obviously, they're not gonna treat it like the World Cup, but each guy's kind of fighting for their spot now.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_00: Everything's a blank slate.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_00: So even guys that have been around the picture, it kind of becomes a dog-eat-dog world, and you're competing for that next big roster.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_00: So I think you're gonna see guys going hard, and I think that's all just trying to lay the groundwork for the future of U.S.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_00: soccer.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_00: I don't think there's actually anything in the games themselves.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_00: Would you agree?
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_01: I do agree.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_01: I had very similar points.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_01: Definitely the evaluation of the players up close.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_01: I think we underestimate the fact that managers, international managers, only get, I believe there's four or five of these windows in a year, but of these two-week periods.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_01: So you're talking basically net two months out of the 12 that they actually get to work with these players.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_01: So I think it's a lot of just getting to see the players up close, talk to them, see what they're about, challenge them.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_01: Hey, you always play this way at your club.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_01: Can we try a little bit more of that?
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_01: And and I think we we hit on it at the beginning of this episode with Marmoush and players coming into a new team.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_01: There's also that with the national team.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_01: Obviously, Kristian Polisic and some of these guys are.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_01: US staples, and that's gonna be fine.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_01: But you bring it, you bring some of these other guys in, and they just might not fit Pachatino's structure.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_01: And it's like something's gonna have to give.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_01: The player either has to play out of position or change the way he plays, or maybe he's just not gonna be a national team player.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_01: And I think that doesn't get spoken about enough because there is a lot of talent that maybe just slips through the cracks almost.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_00: 100% agree.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_00: And I think that's a great point because it's honestly just the simple answer of getting a chance to coach these guys.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_00: They don't we we talk about like communicating with the guys throughout the season and they'll send them a text after a match with their club, hey, good match, or keep it going, focus on this, whatever.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_00: And they'll be in some communication, but in terms of actually putting their hands on them and coaching them, the opportunities are few and far between.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_00: So this window is serving as the first example of that for a lot of these US players.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_00: And then just a continued example for a lot of the guys we know and are familiar with the coaching staff already, it's continuing to develop and build those relationships and take them a step further.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_00: And just the more time you get to spend with the guys, the better, ultimately.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_00: And that's why you see club level teams are able to completely dismantle national teams when they play each other in friendlies and stuff, because the continuity, it's night and day.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_00: It's somebody that you're with for almost every day of your life, as opposed to, like you mentioned, a person you're with for at best a month, maybe month and a half.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_00: And this window is new this year, that it's three weeks.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_00: Usually it's only a two-week window here and a quick week and a half window in October.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_00: So they've kind of combined them, they've made it an opportunity to be with your national team for a bit longer.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, we see some good side effects from that.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_01: And it sort of your answer, I'm sure, bleeds in a bit to the second question with what do we want to see out of it?
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_01: And for me, it's very similar to what you said.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_01: I want to see these new players acclimate to the manager.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_01: I want to see Pajitino get his hands on them and say, Hey, what this is what I want to build.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_01: This is what the I want the structure to look like.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_01: Because, in all honesty, Sean, you mentioned it being sort of his first official window.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_01: I know he was obviously the coach for the last year and a half, but he kind of came in and it was like World Cup.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_01: And it was probably a little bit of, hey, this is who you got.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_01: You can't change too much and throw the best 11 you can on the field and cross your fingers.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_01: He might come in this camp, Sean, and play a flat four instead of a back three.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_01: We don't know that.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_01: And and I think it's great that he now has four full years, however many cycles that adds, or however many camps and things that leads up to, to say, hey, this is how I actually really want to play.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_01: And that this is how these are the players that I would love to profile and have in these camps because we saw names on that list that guys that maybe we hadn't heard a lot about, and he might see them as wow, this guy can really fit my system.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_01: Whereas we're like, eh, it doesn't really look like it makes sense on paper, but he might have different ideas.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_01: So I want to see personally what his vision is, and maybe we don't see that a ton.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_01: I mean, we're not gonna get daily great reports out of training camps and things like that, but for friendlies, you you get four 90-minute chances to really see it in action, and maybe we do see something on the field that's like, oh, we didn't have that at the World Cup.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_01: Like, what's he trying to do there?
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_01: So for me, that's what I would love to see.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_01: I'm interested to hear if you want uh specific things you want to see as well.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'll take it a slightly different direction, but I do agree with everything you just said as well.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_00: I want to see those things as well.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_00: I guess they're a little bit secondary to my main thing.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_00: And you mentioned Potts, he has a four-year window, a four-year run-up starting now, and that is a four-year run-up or until Tottenham need a manager.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_00: One of the whatever comes close.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_00: Stop! I just want that on the record.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_00: I would once again bin off this US team for him to come back to Spurs.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_00: So, so right now, Roberto, we're still with you, but just want the just want the listeners to know where I stand on that.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_00: Just putting it on record.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_00: I think what I most want from this particular window, I want these guys competing.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_00: I want the new blood pushing the old blood.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_00: I want the new blood pushing each other, even teammates.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_00: If you're a teammate with a guy at club level, some of these union guys, I want to see I want each of them to say, I want to be the best new person in this camp.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_00: I just want competition, competition, competition.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_00: As much of it as I could get.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_00: I think we've had because of a lack of depth of talent, we've had a lot of people who's uh who know their names are on the team sheets and they know they're gonna be selected into these rosters.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_00: I don't want that to be the case anymore.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_00: I want going, push, like you said, sometimes change is good.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_00: Push the norm.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_00: Change the norm.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_00: That's what I want.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_00: I want as much competition as possible, and maybe it falls flat, and maybe a guy turns out he's not as good as one of the guys that has been one of those mainstays.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_00: But I want to see it.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_00: I want that to I want that to be proven out over the course of this next four-year cycle, and I think it starts now.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_01: And I think it's a great Petri dish experiment place where you can play around with this because it goes wrong, let's say, for instance, and I don't I don't want this to happen, but Kevin Sullivan is all of a sudden a bust and he's not great with a national team.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_01: Okay, like it's four games with him, and you don't you can set him on the bench, and then you send them back to the under-21s or the under-18s, and you say, Hey, come back to me in two years when you get this, this, and this together.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_01: And you really don't lose out.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_01: It's not gonna happen, I'll tell you that.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_01: It will not happen.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_00: No, it won't happen.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_00: And honestly, that that example did hurt my heart a little bit.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_00: I don't want that.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_00: He was a different player.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_00: He was the first guy that came into my head, but he's a different player, but but that won't happen.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_00: That guy Kavan is a dog and a killer.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's the guy I'm thinking of when I say competition, because he'll he'll look Christian Pulisek right in the eyes right now, and he believes in his heart that he's a better footballer.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I'm not here telling you he is or he isn't.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_00: I know he believes he is, and that's what matters.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_00: And you and you'd love to see that.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_00: You love to see that.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_01: And look, I'm glad you mentioned Christian as well because it goes back to the Gold Cup situation last summer where Christian's like, nah, I'm good, coach.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_01: Call in the other guys.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_01: That that might be your last call-up.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_01: Sure, where it's like, all right, Kevin says, Cool, coach, I'll come, and comes and kills it, and then Kavin takes that spot.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_01: And it's like, I'm not sort of the alley team.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_01: Hey, when and where?
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, roll up.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's what I want.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_00: Roll up, but roll the ball out.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_00: Christian's like, well, prioritizing my fitness for the year to come.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_00: No, no, dude, you weren't even fit and you sucked at the World Cup.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_00: So roll the ball out, Brandon.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_01: And it's funny, another quick aside about Kavin, when they had the international or the uh World Cup break, I'm sorry, the MLS players got like a mandatory break.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_01: It was in their players association contracts, whatever.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_01: Kevin called the sporting director and said, Hey, I heard the second team's playing the Ivory Coast.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_01: Let me get some minutes.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_01: And the guy was like, All right, bet.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_01: And he went and played with the second team against the Ivory Coast.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_01: Like, dude, like you said, roll the ball out, dude.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_01: We'll be there.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_01: And we don't, I don't know, Sean, if we've had if we have players like that before this.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_01: It's always been you're the only goalie we have, you're the only this we have, so you have to play.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_01: Now it's like these young guys are coming up and they're like, We're playing in MLS and we're the best players on our team.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_01: We don't care that we're 17, 18, 19 years old.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_01: Who cares that you you were at the World Cup three months ago?
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_01: I'm better than you.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_01: And now it's my chance to show you that.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, you'd love to see that.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_01: That's that's the best problem US soccer can have right now.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_00: Yes, I completely agree.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_00: So to sum it up, we want competition.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_00: We want competition.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_01: And the last the last question on that same note is what would make this window a success or a failure to you?
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_01: Um I'm interested to see what you think.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_01: I think for me, success is everyone comes out healthy.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_01: You don't want any injuries, of course.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_01: And for the matches, I think it's weird.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_01: You want to win, you want to see results, but at the same time, I think it's more of that last question we just spoke about.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_01: It's you want to see competition, you want to see guys getting into tackles.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_01: Look, a guy comes in in the 80th minute and we're down 4-0.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_01: Hey, look, it's not your fault we're down 4-0, but go change the game.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_01: Come in and score a goal late.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_01: Hey, it's not gonna change the end result, we still lose, but it's four to one now, and you can walk away saying, Hey, I played 10 minutes, but I played my ass off in this 10 minutes, and I can hold my head high.
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_01: And that for me would be success.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_00: I don't know how how you feel.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna two-fold it into my failure and my success.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_00: What okay?
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_00: The only thing that I would say that could be a failure for me is if we see very little of these more exciting prospects.
- 1:14:18SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:14:18SPEAKER_00: If we don't see them get actual minutes in the matches, that's the only way I think this window would be a failure.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_00: Because then we're not doing the main objective of this window, which we talked about is evaluation and getting guys in.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_00: So that would I don't really think there's a world in which this is a failure.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_00: I I really don't.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_00: It's a window that has no repercussions, basically.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_00: At least tangible ones.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_00: Because I actually don't care about the results at all.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_00: We could lose all four, to be quite honest.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_00: Do I want us to?
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_00: I'd I'd much rather see us win all four and play extremely well.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_00: But I think the most important thing I'm looking at and what success would be for me, is those guys that are new and are getting minutes.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_00: We're learning about them one, but then they're showing us there's something to believe in.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_00: That's the most important thing.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_00: They I want them to put something on tape that we are starting to get excited about.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_00: And if they could do that, that's a huge success for me.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_00: The icing on the cake, a perfect window looks like.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_00: These young kids come out, ball out, they have fun, they win, they compete, and they show us that this pool of players is a lot bigger than just that 26-man squad we were forced to bring to the last World Cup, which we were sc we were begging for like 16 guys to be on it, and then the rest were kind of like, yeah, we'll take.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_00: You know, it's like, is there we're looking around, it's almost like an auction.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_00: Anybody else going on going five times?
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_00: All right, Christian, come on down, cargo, you know.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_00: So that's I just I don't want that to happen again.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_00: So that's what success and failure looks like for me in this window.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_01: Okay, no, and I and I like that, and I I would love to see, and it will never come out directly, but I would love to see the the Christians and maybe even an Aaronson and Tim Weia, these guys that are maybe fringe players, McKenzie, look back at this camp and say, Oh shit, I gotta get my act together because these kids can play.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_01: That for me is even more successful.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_00: First name on a team sheet in the past.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_00: I want him jealous of Kevin Sullivan.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_00: Saying, like, oh, everybody's turned on me.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_00: I had a bad World Cup.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_00: I hate this now.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_00: Good, ate it, change it.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_00: But it's been too comfortable for too long, and we're ass.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_00: We haven't won a damn thing.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_00: So I can't even imagine what comfort looks like when they get you know what I mean?
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:16:33SPEAKER_00: You think like the French team has this issue where it's like, oh, you know, the top guys just aren't that hungry.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_00: No, no, they're trying to kill each other.
- 1:16:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's it's it's that culture shift because, like we said, there's never been a time, at least I feel like in our lives, where the poll has been this deep and talented where the the the locks are being challenged.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_00: Because there's only one guy at each position playing in Europe.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, or there's only one guy that's playing in Europe at a good level.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_00: Like there hasn't been competition.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_00: And if there's one word, if I had to sum up Mauricio Pacetino, I have so many.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_00: I'm so I'm so affectionate of this man.
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_00: I love him.
- 1:17:13SPEAKER_00: But culture is the one that comes to mind.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_00: Culture.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_00: What do stars lack since he left?
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_00: A lot of culture.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_00: What is he trying to shift and honestly implement for the first time ever in the United States?
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_00: Culture.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_00: It's a complete change.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_00: He might not be able to pull it off, but this is now there's no excuses as to why he can't do it.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_00: This is his fresh bill of here you go, the ball's in your court.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_00: What do you have for me?
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he got his contract, he has a staff, he has the new training center in Atlanta.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_01: Like, there are a lot of things that are positive, and now it's time to just put it all together and make stuff happen.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_01: And of course, it's it's way too early to talk about projections for World Cups and big tournaments, but there has to be an improvement, Sean, in all of it.
- 1:18:00SPEAKER_01: It has to be consistent.
- 1:18:01SPEAKER_01: We look at the women's team, and that is such a well-oiled machine.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_01: It is absurd.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_01: And and I think the rest of the world's honestly catching up a bit to the women, so the women do have to be on high alert.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_01: But the way that Emma Hayes and her staff lead that team, it is insane that we can't just pull, we should just pull Emma over.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_01: I said that yeah.
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_00: Years ago to take an Emma Hayes as the men's team coach before Potch, light years before Triple G.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_00: Emma's a dog brand.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_00: And that's what US women's soccer had happen.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_00: We were the kings of the castle or the queens of the castle.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_00: Shit, they're starting to catch up.
- 1:18:39SPEAKER_00: Oh shit, Spain's playing some football over there.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_00: Emma, come on, yeah.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_00: Look at dogs again.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_00: We're winning the next World Cup.
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I a hundred percent.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_00: That's what we need.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_00: Dogs and killers.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_00: No, that is dogs or killers yet.
- 1:18:55SPEAKER_01: No, we don't.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_01: We got puppies.
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_01: We just got puppies.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_00: Little puppies.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_01: Puppies and petty petty crime kids.
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:19:03SPEAKER_00: Petty theft.
- 1:19:04SPEAKER_00: Our guys are stealing packs and gum.
- 1:19:05SPEAKER_00: No rap sheets.
- 1:19:07SPEAKER_00: I want real rap sheets, Brandon.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_00: I want looking across the pitch.
- 1:19:11SPEAKER_00: God, I have to go against him today.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:19:14SPEAKER_00: They're looking at our guys.
- 1:19:15SPEAKER_00: Look at Freezy and Gall.
- 1:19:17SPEAKER_00: Look at him.
- 1:19:18SPEAKER_00: Come here, boy.
- 1:19:18SPEAKER_00: Oh, look at the old dog on the block, Tim Reim.
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_00: He doesn't bark when the kids come on the grass anymore.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_00: He used to.
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_00: He let you steal all day now.
- 1:19:26SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_01: We can't have that anymore.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_01: We're too proud of a country for this.
- 1:19:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:19:31SPEAKER_01: And and I think it goes back to how America's always been the top at everything.
- 1:19:38SPEAKER_01: In a lot of other things.
- 1:19:40SPEAKER_01: Especially in sports.
- 1:19:41SPEAKER_01: Maybe not soccer, but most of the other sports, it's always like you look at the Olympics and all of these other big events, and USA is always coming out with the most medals.
- 1:19:49SPEAKER_01: And soccer, especially on the men's side, not the women's side, it's always been our blind spot.
- 1:19:54SPEAKER_01: And we've always lacked, and it's always been, oh, it's alright.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_01: We have a football, we we play American football.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_01: That's all that matters here in this country.
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_01: And it's like probably yeah, still American football will still run the day.
- 1:20:06SPEAKER_01: But we can also be good at soccer too.
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_01: And we are paying these coaches, and we have so much infrastructure now, and there's so many people in this country.
- 1:20:14SPEAKER_01: The pool is massive.
- 1:20:15SPEAKER_01: We have to figure it out.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_01: And especially when you have the model in the same office across the hall with Emma and her people doing their thing.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_01: Go steal something from Emma and bring it over to the men's side because everything she does has been incredible.
- 1:20:31SPEAKER_01: She actually, fun fact, was at the Spurs game this weekend and left early when it was 3-0.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_01: Again, we would have probably done that too.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_01: She's like, this game's over.
- 1:20:39SPEAKER_01: She just knows.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_01: She knows what's gonna happen.
- 1:20:41SPEAKER_00: She's a Spurs fan.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_00: I know she comes from Chelsea, Brandon, but she's always been Spurs.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_00: I saw her with Ange when Ange was the manager, Tottenham they came over, they did a little jersey swap, two legends.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_00: I Emma, you could pick up a shift on the men's side anytime.
- 1:20:55SPEAKER_00: Anytime.
- 1:20:56SPEAKER_00: Tomorrow.
- 1:20:57SPEAKER_00: And then Podge will see you in North London.
- 1:21:01SPEAKER_00: The women can have deserve me.
- 1:21:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's then they'll have to fend for themselves, basically.
- 1:21:06SPEAKER_01: So no, no, Sean, but in all seriousness, this window is is definitely one that I think both of us are extremely, extremely excited for.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be a fun one.
- 1:21:16SPEAKER_01: Obviously, we're gonna have to shift our coverage a little bit because we don't have Premier League games the next three weeks.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_01: Uh MLS we still do have, so we will bring in bits and pieces of that.
- 1:21:27SPEAKER_01: But maybe we do dive into one of these clubs, Manchester United, and and talk about their issues or the resurgence in Philadelphia that has just happened, it seems like overnight during these next few week periods.
- 1:21:42SPEAKER_01: Because it these are incredible stories that maybe don't get flushed out because of whatever reason.
- 1:21:48SPEAKER_01: And now we have a little bit of extra time.
- 1:21:50SPEAKER_01: So definitely interested in in doing a little bit of a deep dive, maybe one of these next couple episodes as well with you.
- 1:21:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, maybe we put our audit classes on and we the auditors always come out.
- 1:22:00SPEAKER_00: We we see what's really going on at Manchester United books.
- 1:22:03SPEAKER_00: What happened at Philadelphia to start this season?
- 1:22:05SPEAKER_00: We start answering some of these hard-hitting questions.
- 1:22:09SPEAKER_01: Or like the uh Pablo Tories of the MLS.
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_00: We'll find out.
- 1:22:15SPEAKER_00: No, here's all the story.
- 1:22:19SPEAKER_00: He's doing real shit.
- 1:22:20SPEAKER_00: We're we're wondering what went wrong at Philadelphia Union to start the season.
- 1:22:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's he's un uncovering actual crime, and people are probably gonna go to jail for this.
- 1:22:30SPEAKER_01: So a little bit of a different different energy.
- 1:22:32SPEAKER_01: But yeah, Sean, I think overall, Premier League, we're putting a pause on it.
- 1:22:39SPEAKER_01: Obviously, not proud of how the season has started with our team.
- 1:22:42SPEAKER_01: However, maybe a little silver lining, maybe a little glass half full, Sean.
- 1:22:47SPEAKER_01: We've only played five games, we have 33 left.
- 1:22:49SPEAKER_01: Still some time.
- 1:22:50SPEAKER_00: You're right.
- 1:22:51SPEAKER_00: I I will let's put a pin in the Premier League.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_00: It's almost like the friends, we were on a break.
- 1:22:56SPEAKER_00: I don't want to hear the words Premier League next three weeks.
- 1:22:58SPEAKER_00: Don't want to hear them.
- 1:22:59SPEAKER_00: Good vibes, Team US.
- 1:23:01SPEAKER_00: Focus on what's at hand.
- 1:23:03SPEAKER_00: We're not gonna talk about, we're not gonna talk about the Premier League.
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_00: It's only gonna make me mad.
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_00: Keep our eye on the prize.
- 1:23:07SPEAKER_00: It's like wedding grad league.
- 1:23:08SPEAKER_00: I can't do it.
- 1:23:09SPEAKER_00: So just we were on a break.
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_00: Don't bring up the Premier League.
- 1:23:12SPEAKER_00: We were on a break.
- 1:23:13SPEAKER_00: I don't want any part of the Premier League discussion.
- 1:23:16SPEAKER_00: Brandon, we said we were gonna be quick this episode.
- 1:23:18SPEAKER_00: It was just a little recap, a little US preview.
- 1:23:20SPEAKER_00: It's our longest one.
- 1:23:22SPEAKER_00: This is like a World Cup preview episode.
- 1:23:24SPEAKER_01: No, it happens.
- 1:23:25SPEAKER_01: Once the boys get going and the topics start firing.
- 1:23:29SPEAKER_01: No, I I always have a good time with you.
- 1:23:31SPEAKER_01: And it's funny, we always have these nice and and kudos to you.
- 1:23:35SPEAKER_01: I'll give you this nice layout on what we want to hit.
- 1:23:37SPEAKER_01: And and we hit what we need to hit, but then there's always something extra that comes up and a fun topic, and we we just start bantering, and and I love that about this.
- 1:23:45SPEAKER_01: That we have the freedom to do that as well.
- 1:23:47SPEAKER_01: Sean.
- 1:23:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we saw we saw a sign for an ice cream shop, and we took a we took a little detail, you know.
- 1:23:52SPEAKER_00: God forbid we still need ice cream.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, still got to the finish line.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_01: We still got there.
- 1:23:58SPEAKER_01: Took the scenic route.
- 1:23:59SPEAKER_01: Great job, Brandon.
- 1:24:00SPEAKER_01: Always a pleasure.
- 1:24:01SPEAKER_01: No, no, thank you.
- 1:24:03SPEAKER_01: You as well, Sean.
- 1:24:04SPEAKER_01: This has been great.
- 1:24:05SPEAKER_01: Listeners, we always appreciate your support.
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_01: Please send your questions in, especially these next three weeks.
- 1:24:10SPEAKER_01: We got some free time.
- 1:24:11SPEAKER_01: We can do a little deep dive.
- 1:24:12SPEAKER_01: What you what do you want to hear about?
- 1:24:14SPEAKER_01: Whether it be domestic, international, club, country.
- 1:24:18SPEAKER_01: We we have a little bit of time.
- 1:24:20SPEAKER_00: Yes, 100%.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_00: Please actually do send in questions.
- 1:24:23SPEAKER_00: That's a good shout by you, Brandon.
- 1:24:24SPEAKER_00: Any questions mentioning the words Tottenham or Hotspur will be muted and filtered out.
- 1:24:29SPEAKER_00: So don't ask about them.
- 1:24:31SPEAKER_00: Anything else is fair game.
- 1:24:32SPEAKER_01: Fair enough, fair enough.
- 1:24:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:24:34SPEAKER_01: None of that stuff for a few weeks.
- 1:24:36SPEAKER_01: It'll be nice.
- 1:24:37SPEAKER_01: Our mental health will do a nice little reset.
- 1:24:40SPEAKER_01: We'll we'll go into October with some positive vibes.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_01: And unfortunately, when the season comes back, I think October 10th, we'll be back on edge.
- 1:24:47SPEAKER_01: But until then, Sean, we're good.
- 1:24:49SPEAKER_01: So, listeners, thank you as always.
