- 0:51Speaker 1: offensive coordinator, coach Caleb Kelly sitting to my left. He's
- 0:55Speaker 1: got just a few minutes with USP. He's got to
- 0:56Speaker 1: go pick up some children.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Coach.
- 0:58Speaker 1: That's the most important thing is that is that pick
- 1:00Speaker 1: up line, trying to get those kids out of school
- 1:01Speaker 1: and all that stuff.
- 1:02Speaker 2: How are you, Oh my gosh, man, something we experienced
- 1:05Speaker 2: every single day. And the funny thing is is, you
- 1:07Speaker 2: know the first two weeks when school starts, you know,
- 1:09Speaker 2: everybody's trying to get the routine down, and I want
- 1:12Speaker 2: to say I was probably leaving at six fifteen to
- 1:14Speaker 2: go get both of my boys dropped off at their school.
- 1:18Speaker 2: And I want to say we were probably done with
- 1:19Speaker 2: drop off around seven thirty. And you know, I was like, Okay,
- 1:24Speaker 2: is this gonna be every day an hour right now?
- 1:27Speaker 1: But you know weeks go on.
- 1:28Speaker 2: He Oh, it's quicker and better, more efficient. Man, Now
- 1:30Speaker 2: it's like a twenty minute. I text my wife today,
- 1:32Speaker 2: I was like, man, that's twenty minutes. Fifteen minutes both
- 1:34Speaker 2: kids dropped off. I'm even really for work.
- 1:36Speaker 1: So perfect, perfect yep, speaking of time, and things get
- 1:39Speaker 1: better with efficiency. Obviously, you've done offensive football for a
- 1:42Speaker 1: long time back at Pearl, previous stint here when coach
- 1:45Speaker 1: Perry was here. What made Pearl rite for you to
- 1:48Speaker 1: come back for a second time?
- 1:50Speaker 2: Man, there's a lot of there's a lot of answers
- 1:52Speaker 2: I could give you for that question, man, really, you know,
- 1:56Speaker 2: and the one that stands out to me the most,
- 1:58Speaker 2: that just comes from the heart, is like a family
- 2:01Speaker 2: environment for me. I tell people all the time when
- 2:04Speaker 2: I when I took this job again, when I came back,
- 2:06Speaker 2: I tell people all the time, I never had a
- 2:08Speaker 2: bad day at Pearl, no matter what in the classroom,
- 2:12Speaker 2: on the football field, I never remember coming home and
- 2:15Speaker 2: just felt like, man, that was a bad day. There
- 2:17Speaker 2: might have been bad moments, but I don't I don't
- 2:19Speaker 2: think I've ever had a bad day. And you know,
- 2:21Speaker 2: just my first stint here, I felt like, you know,
- 2:24Speaker 2: I felt like just the platform that I had to
- 2:28Speaker 2: make an impact, man, that was just special. And you know,
- 2:31Speaker 2: and and the people here, from the administration to the
- 2:33Speaker 2: coaching staff, to the kids, to the community, they make
- 2:37Speaker 2: it a special place. So you know, you can't ask
- 2:39Speaker 2: for a better place to be in my opinion.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Take us through what this may look like for you
- 2:43Speaker 1: guys this year kind of a kind of a coach
- 2:45Speaker 1: Caleb Kelly offense and what people will see with that, right.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Yeah, So you know, the biggest thing for me is
- 2:49Speaker 2: identity and having that identity, and for me, it's just
- 2:52Speaker 2: it's a downhill physical offense, you know, not being scared,
- 2:57Speaker 2: not being scared to run between the tackles and however
- 2:59Speaker 2: way so we can do that, we do that or
- 3:01Speaker 2: whatever formation. So you know, I would like to I
- 3:04Speaker 2: would like to say we're multiple as far as personnel goes,
- 3:08Speaker 2: But you know at the end of the day, we're
- 3:09Speaker 2: going to be a heavy gap scheme team.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Visit with Caleb Kelly, he is the offensive coordinator here
- 3:14Speaker 1: at Pearl. Pirates open up next Thursday night against Madison
- 3:17Speaker 1: Central right here at Pirates Stadium. Of course, uh, coach,
- 3:22Speaker 1: when you look at it at this group of Pirates
- 3:24Speaker 1: kind of take us through you talk about gap scheme
- 3:26Speaker 1: and run of the football. Pearl has always been, you know,
- 3:28Speaker 1: prior to when you were here, when you were here
- 3:30Speaker 1: the first a very physical football team. We've talked about
- 3:32Speaker 1: that today is to me, that's the Pearl identity is
- 3:35Speaker 1: physical line of scrimmage football. This group of Pirates tell
- 3:39Speaker 1: us a little bit about them.
- 3:40Speaker 2: You know, you hit the nail on the head is
- 3:42Speaker 2: you know, when you think Pearl, you think physical and
- 3:43Speaker 2: tough downhill run game. And you know that's been the
- 3:46Speaker 2: biggest goal of the spring coming into the fall is
- 3:48Speaker 2: trying to you know, relive that identity in our current
- 3:52Speaker 2: Pearl Pirates. But you know, so far with our personnel
- 3:55Speaker 2: and what we got, man, we got some weapons on offense.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I've actually been super proud of our skill guys. We
- 4:00Speaker 2: have a number of guys I can name you know
- 4:02Speaker 2: who are gonna be contributing this fall. But you know
- 4:05Speaker 2: you can't fail to mention the uh you know, Derrick
- 4:07Speaker 2: Alexander Peyton Parks and you know we've had quarterback Cruise
- 4:11Speaker 2: Atwood first year behind the center, who's just stepped up,
- 4:14Speaker 2: made some amazing throws in the spring and has had
- 4:16Speaker 2: an awesome summer on seven on seven. So you know
- 4:19Speaker 2: he's gonna contribute greatly in that room of things. As
- 4:23Speaker 2: far as football, man, you know, to me, just the
- 4:26Speaker 2: the downhill run game and the personnel that we have,
- 4:28Speaker 2: I think we're gonna be really physical. But you know,
- 4:30Speaker 2: we're still in the work in progress right there. We're
- 4:33Speaker 2: still we're still developing in that area, and I think
- 4:35Speaker 2: we're gonna be there. I believe we will be by
- 4:37Speaker 2: uh by next week. So you know, I'm I like
- 4:40Speaker 2: where we're at right now. Offensively, where where are you?
- 4:43Speaker 1: And of course the game has changed so much on
- 4:45Speaker 1: on tempo in offense. I mean, you say, you know
- 4:47Speaker 1: a couple of years ago and I say two five, six,
- 4:50Speaker 1: seventy two years ago when Tipo came on, everybody said, Okay,
- 4:52Speaker 1: we're gonna go the old Buffalo Bills two minute offense.
- 4:54Speaker 1: You've remember back in the day with Jim Kelly. Now
- 4:56Speaker 1: everybody's running, you know, rip and running sideline to sideline.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Then that kind of slowed down a little bit, got
- 5:02Speaker 1: some teams in trouble. Yeah. I remember when Kevin Someone
- 5:04Speaker 1: was at Texas A and M. They were such a
- 5:06Speaker 1: high tempo offense, but it was getting their defense in
- 5:08Speaker 1: some precarious situation. So kind of wear you with tempo.
- 5:12Speaker 2: You know, back in prior to my stint Innoxipator, I
- 5:16Speaker 2: was a you know, I loved it. I was a
- 5:17Speaker 2: big tempo guy and I thought and I and honestly,
- 5:20Speaker 2: looking at tempo, I think is appropriate at certain times
- 5:23Speaker 2: of the game. You know, just like you said, you
- 5:25Speaker 2: don't want to exhaustr defense. And you know where I've been,
- 5:27Speaker 2: You've played eleven guys on both sides of the ball.
- 5:29Speaker 2: So really tempo got thrown out the window for me
- 5:31Speaker 2: four years ago.
- 5:32Speaker 1: For four years.
- 5:33Speaker 2: So you know, we've been a really a quick muddle, huddle,
- 5:36Speaker 2: break and get to the line of scrimmage down here
- 5:38Speaker 2: run team the last four years just because we'dn't been
- 5:40Speaker 2: at smart schools. But you know, we've had the ability
- 5:42Speaker 2: to get into tempo to go attack and you know
- 5:45Speaker 2: I love it, man, You know I love to see
- 5:47Speaker 2: it on Saturdays. But you know, to me, it's all
- 5:49Speaker 2: about your personnel, what you have, Can you do it?
- 5:51Speaker 2: Can you can you efficiently do it? And if you can,
- 5:56Speaker 2: you know, hats off to you do it. But you know,
- 5:58Speaker 2: to me, I love it, but I think is appropriate
- 6:00Speaker 2: at certain times of the game.
- 6:03Speaker 1: He is Caleb Kelly, the offensive coordinator Hit Pearl, Coach.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I know you got obligations to fulfill. I told you
- 6:08Speaker 1: five to seven. That's where we're at.
- 6:09Speaker 2: So look, man, look it's been great. I've enjoyed it.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I can do this all day honestly. Well we'll do
- 6:13Speaker 1: it again for sure. Best of luck this year, coach.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Thank you so much. Coach. Caleb Kelly, offensive coordinator, Here
- 6:18Speaker 1: at Pearl on your radio as we get closer to
- 6:21Speaker 1: the end of our number two. We got a few
- 6:23Speaker 1: minutes here and we'll catch you up on some notes.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Wild story out of the state of Tennessee. A sixteen
- 6:29Speaker 1: year old Tennessee girl has been charged with assault after
- 6:33Speaker 1: running onto a football field in the middle of a
- 6:35Speaker 1: game in tackling a middle school player. The videos here,
- 6:38Speaker 1: I just shared it on ex to Clinton body Shop
- 6:40Speaker 1: X feed at Jake wim and literally it's kind of
- 6:44Speaker 1: a subscriber or excuse me, describe this again. You can
- 6:48Speaker 1: go watch it. The play is over, there's a flag
- 6:50Speaker 1: thrown and this girl runs out onto the field and
- 6:53Speaker 1: she literally tackles a player. And this girl ain't big
- 6:56Speaker 1: as nothing now, she's probably five to three five four,
- 7:00Speaker 1: maybe one hundred and ten pounds. She's wearing some shorts
- 7:04Speaker 1: and you know, just a normal shirt and she literally
- 7:06Speaker 1: runs out on the field, off the sideline, tackles a guy.
- 7:08Speaker 1: When the guy gets up, she pushes him down again.
- 7:11Speaker 1: They may need to suit this girl up. This is
- 7:13Speaker 1: I mean, he's a crazy, crazy video. I don't think
- 7:17Speaker 1: I've seen that. I mean, it's you know, especially out
- 7:20Speaker 1: of a female. But nonetheless something she didn't like. She
- 7:23Speaker 1: did it also real quickly. Here's some other news that's
- 7:27Speaker 1: out here that we haven't gotten to. We'll get into
- 7:31Speaker 1: this in our number three from Matt Zenitz. Former LSU
- 7:34Speaker 1: in current Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Jack Pyburn has
- 7:38Speaker 1: filed a lawsuit today against the NCAA seeking a preliminary
- 7:41Speaker 1: injunction that would give him the option to return to
- 7:43Speaker 1: college football, per reports obtained from several Chris Hummer being one,
- 7:49Speaker 1: as he is looking to get back on the field.
- 7:52Speaker 1: That's edge Jack Pyburn and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive
- 7:56Speaker 1: end and again talking to some of the coaches here
- 7:58Speaker 1: Pearl about this and just talking shop. You know, this
- 8:02Speaker 1: puts teams in such a precarious situation because let's say
- 8:06Speaker 1: he wants to come back to LSU. He can come
- 8:08Speaker 1: back to LSU. Well, LSU plays Clemson in like ten days.
- 8:13Speaker 1: So what would Lane Kiffin even do with that? I mean,
- 8:15Speaker 1: you're gonna have to cut somebody. Do you have a
- 8:17Speaker 1: spot that what the court system has done this year
- 8:21Speaker 1: has really I mean the mud the Water's already murky
- 8:24Speaker 1: and mucky in college sports, but this, this whole new
- 8:27Speaker 1: rule has really just muddy the waters. Also looking at
- 8:32Speaker 1: some more, Ben Garrett reports Zavian Harris and the Kwon
- 8:36Speaker 1: Wright are listed as well and wanting to come back
- 8:38Speaker 1: to LSU. I mean right here at the end. And
- 8:41Speaker 1: I think what you're seeing though, is guys that see
- 8:45Speaker 1: the writing on the wall in the NFL, they're in camps,
- 8:48Speaker 1: They're probably gonna get cut. They're not gonna make the
- 8:50Speaker 1: fifty three man roster, and they know they're not gonna
- 8:52Speaker 1: get paid unless they get on a practice squad. And
- 8:54Speaker 1: that's pennies on the dollar compared to what you could
- 8:56Speaker 1: make in college. So they're wanting to wanting to back. Also,
- 9:01Speaker 1: Adam Schefter reporting Giants claim defensive tackle Ben Barton off
- 9:04Speaker 1: waivers from the Jets. The Dolphins released veteran kicker Zane Gonzalez,
- 9:09Speaker 1: and the Falcons placed a runningback Tray Sermon on injured reserve.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Our Number two is in the books, brought to you
- 9:15Speaker 1: by the Gurka Cigar Lounge Adam Arastar and of course
- 9:18Speaker 1: get by Girka, shop around, get you some great cigars,
- 9:22Speaker 1: take them to the house, have them at the sports
- 9:24Speaker 1: book at a Marastar Our three coming up next
- 10:00Speaker 2: The way,
