- 0:00Speaker 1: You know, I've been I've been very vocal, and I've
- 0:05Speaker 1: been holding back with a lot of restraints because I've
- 0:08Speaker 1: been doing a lot of work on myself and I
- 0:09Speaker 1: just really just you know, i'd like to say, and
- 0:14Speaker 1: I'm not afraid to say, and I'm not afraid to say,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and I'm not afraid to say.
- 0:41Speaker 2: So what do you have us eating today? As you
- 0:43Speaker 2: broke dish?
- 0:44Speaker 1: Well, you know, for me, I can only remember when
- 0:48Speaker 1: it was brought to me, like it was either like
- 0:51Speaker 1: my main dish was top right and it was hard
- 0:55Speaker 1: for me to choose because it was either the top rhyman.
- 0:57Speaker 1: It was either you know that egg sandwich, you know
- 1:01Speaker 1: what the bread or like a tuna sandwich or a
- 1:05Speaker 1: peanut butter swich. But I feel like I hate to.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Yeah, And we went back and forth. Just so you
- 1:13Speaker 3: guys know, a lot of our guests shoes top Ramen.
- 1:15Speaker 3: I'm always like be towing top Ramen.
- 1:19Speaker 1: It's the cheapest a couple of noodles.
- 1:21Speaker 3: It's because everyone's dish goes into a cookbook and I
- 1:25Speaker 3: know that top Ramen is it's a popular So the
- 1:27Speaker 3: only time I accept top Ramen on the show is
- 1:30Speaker 3: if you have tweaked it.
- 1:32Speaker 2: But Rad says that he does tweak. Kids, what do
- 1:35Speaker 2: you do to yours?
- 1:35Speaker 1: I mean there's times I've put tuning in it. There's
- 1:39Speaker 1: times that I put eggs in it. There's times and
- 1:43Speaker 1: I just put a lot of different seasons just to
- 1:44Speaker 1: try to figure out like karaokey sauce, oyster sauce. Try,
- 1:48Speaker 1: you just try and freed the different noodles. But like,
- 1:51Speaker 1: for real, I would love to come back because I
- 1:52Speaker 1: have a few other broke dishes now that like, because
- 1:55Speaker 1: you wheels are turning right, yeah, because you opened up that.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Yeah, you opened up that that that you know, that
- 2:02Speaker 4: that portal of what it was like to be broke, Like, well,
- 2:04Speaker 4: what the fuck was niggas eating like motherfucker's eating like
- 2:07Speaker 4: Jack in the box tacos for a dollar?
- 2:09Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 2:10Speaker 2: I still love those, by the way, I still eat them.
- 2:12Speaker 3: I still eat like That's like when I go to
- 2:14Speaker 3: dragone Crack and people are like, what do you want,
- 2:16Speaker 3: I'm like curly fries and some to two for one tacos.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Right, you talked about never forgetting where you came from,
- 2:22Speaker 1: so for real, for real, but yeah, that's why but
- 2:25Speaker 1: now that I know that you're building a cookbook, you know,
- 2:27Speaker 1: I would love to come back. You know what I'm saying,
- 2:28Speaker 1: because we have a bunch of I.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Just think that that recipe, Well, why don't you start
- 2:32Speaker 3: us off a right cool all y'all listeners, y'all know
- 2:35Speaker 3: how the top ramen goes.
- 2:36Speaker 2: You boil the hot water and uh you go from there.
- 2:41Speaker 1: So it's real simple. We're gonna keep it light and simple.
- 2:43Speaker 1: But let me tell you this, when your boy was,
- 2:45Speaker 1: you know, seeing how many y'all like tasting us this
- 2:48Speaker 1: season just by itself. Really, yes, the season is good.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Mind of that chicken season in the cup with the
- 2:54Speaker 1: little squares, oh the bollion listen called I don't cook.
- 3:00Speaker 1: But I will tell you this, there's men many times
- 3:02Speaker 1: right just when in my mom's cap, I'm like, yo,
- 3:04Speaker 1: I'm just gonna put this in here and put this
- 3:06Speaker 1: in here.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Are you gonna do two or one?
- 3:10Speaker 1: Always better?
- 3:11Speaker 2: It was always better. So I had a guess.
- 3:13Speaker 3: One time they said that they would save half of
- 3:16Speaker 3: the they would eat a one pack and they would
- 3:18Speaker 3: save half for like lunch.
- 3:20Speaker 2: And half for break.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Y'all, break break the second break.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Don't dump that little seasoning.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Pack ship is in there. Well, we got to get
- 3:28Speaker 1: it out.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Now, you know, ra isn't in the kitchen a lot.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we're not in the kitchen as okay, perfect,
- 3:35Speaker 1: all right?
- 3:36Speaker 2: So I have another question. When you do your ramen.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I like to do my ramen where it's like cook
- 3:41Speaker 3: not all the way mushy, and then I drain it
- 3:44Speaker 3: a little bit so it's a little more dry.
- 3:46Speaker 2: How do you do yours?
- 3:47Speaker 1: It depends on how I feel that day, right. Sometimes
- 3:50Speaker 1: I will completely drain it and I'll put some butter
- 3:52Speaker 1: in which I'm gonna put some butter in, some singing salt,
- 3:54Speaker 1: you know, maybe maybe an egg. I typically I drain it.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Sometimes I'll drain it and I put it like a
- 4:04Speaker 1: lot of butter, and I just have it like really
- 4:05Speaker 1: really dry. And sometimes I just like I leave the
- 4:08Speaker 1: soup because I think the soup is pretty good too.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Yeah, Like I like the soup. But after having ramen
- 4:13Speaker 3: like eight hundred and million, thousand, kazillion times, I do
- 4:17Speaker 3: the draining and I do the butter mixture. But you've
- 4:20Speaker 3: seen so much success in your life, are I like
- 4:23Speaker 3: to go back to the time when you were eating
- 4:26Speaker 3: this ramen. Okay, So with you, you have an interesting
- 4:30Speaker 3: story because I'm assuming you were broke before you were successful,
- 4:33Speaker 3: and then there was a period in the middle. I'm
- 4:36Speaker 3: sure we're dipped a little bit and then it picked
- 4:38Speaker 3: up again. So which part of the Ramen story do
- 4:41Speaker 3: we get today?
- 4:42Speaker 1: Oh, that's a good question. You get the story from
- 4:46Speaker 1: the Ramen when I was just starting out, and I'm
- 4:49Speaker 1: sure you probably get that from most people in this
- 4:51Speaker 1: industry if you are not financially Uh, what's the word?
- 4:56Speaker 1: I want to Financial literacy is everything in this business.
- 4:59Speaker 1: So a lot of artists have to have took a
- 5:01Speaker 1: dip and and splurage and ran through money sitting and
- 5:04Speaker 1: all to manage it with credit and so on and
- 5:05Speaker 1: so forth. So I've definitely experienced some some heart into
- 5:08Speaker 1: my life Where've ran through some money and I've been
- 5:10Speaker 1: fortunate enough to be able to, you know, continue to
- 5:12Speaker 1: move forward, you know what I'm saying. With with learning
- 5:14Speaker 1: how to manage money and continue to grow with funds,
- 5:17Speaker 1: I get like, if you get a hundred K, you
- 5:19Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, don't just run through it. You
- 5:20Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, You can you can actually invest
- 5:21Speaker 1: on a hundred thousand and turn it turn to five
- 5:23Speaker 1: hundred thousand, turn that five hundred thousand into you know,
- 5:26Speaker 1: to five million. So you know, I recall my mom
- 5:30Speaker 1: always being gone at work, and you know, as a kid,
- 5:34Speaker 1: you're growing up and you really don't know how to
- 5:36Speaker 1: cook for yourself. So the easiest thing you can do,
- 5:38Speaker 1: you can take some ramen, keep the water up, and
- 5:40Speaker 1: then you know you can cook. You can actually cook
- 5:42Speaker 1: the ramen the microwave, you know. But the easiest thing
- 5:45Speaker 1: for me is I learned, you know, to to boil
- 5:47Speaker 1: the water and put the ramen in there. And I
- 5:49Speaker 1: just used to get really really creative and and eat
- 5:52Speaker 1: that ramen and remember as it and and think as
- 5:55Speaker 1: a as a kid, what do I want to do
- 5:57Speaker 1: when I when I get older. On top of like
- 5:59Speaker 1: waiting for cartoons to come on and different things like that,
- 6:01Speaker 1: but like, there was always this sense of destiny that
- 6:03Speaker 1: I had upon my life, and I feel less for everyone,
- 6:06Speaker 1: you know that that comes to this earth. I had
- 6:09Speaker 1: a sense of destiny. It's just really all about figuring
- 6:13Speaker 1: out figuring you know, you kind to kind of grow
- 6:14Speaker 1: into your your spirituality. You have to grow into your enlightenments.
- 6:18Speaker 1: You have to grow into your discipline. You have to
- 6:20Speaker 1: embrace the world. But at the same time, excuse me,
- 6:23Speaker 1: you have to learn how to be in the world,
- 6:24Speaker 1: not of the world. So for me, you know, this,
- 6:28Speaker 1: this dish represents like humility. For me, it represents it
- 6:32Speaker 1: takes me back to the time when I was a kid,
- 6:34Speaker 1: just cooking that, thinking and dreaming, you know. And even
- 6:40Speaker 1: at times as as I got older, I still found
- 6:42Speaker 1: myself eating ram and I wound up living in China.
- 6:44Speaker 1: When I was well, I had some success. I had
- 6:46Speaker 1: a lot of success.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Actually, yeah, before you went to China.
- 6:49Speaker 3: But when you were saying that, you were thinking about
- 6:51Speaker 3: your destiny And while making this, did you think, Okay,
- 6:54Speaker 3: I'm going to be a music star or a dancer?
- 6:58Speaker 2: Like what were you thinking when you were thinking about
- 6:59Speaker 2: your desk? You know, do you need to turn that up?
- 7:03Speaker 1: And I turned it down actually because I'm gonna let
- 7:05Speaker 1: them want to cook it for a little bit. I
- 7:11Speaker 1: it's a really good question. I would definitely say what
- 7:15Speaker 1: a child likes faith. There was a lot of times
- 7:18Speaker 1: my mind just wondered, and I felt like as I
- 7:21Speaker 1: got older, I finally had to kind of like dig
- 7:24Speaker 1: get back into what I used to like or what
- 7:28Speaker 1: I used to think about, And that's kind of hard
- 7:29Speaker 1: to remember. What do you used to think about and
- 7:31Speaker 1: dream of as a kid. I think one of the
- 7:34Speaker 1: biggest things for me it was always having a major platform.
- 7:39Speaker 1: It was always being a voice, It was always being
- 7:41Speaker 1: a light. It was always making people laugh. Right, So
- 7:45Speaker 1: at a young age, I recalled being like I would
- 7:48Speaker 1: I learned trying to drive a stick shift at like
- 7:50Speaker 1: eight nine years old, right, So I would take the
- 7:52Speaker 1: car to the store, to the Mexican market. But a
- 7:55Speaker 1: lot of times my mom would tell me, she remember
- 7:56Speaker 1: that there would be times that I would go to
- 7:59Speaker 1: the Mexim mark and I'll be like acting like I
- 8:02Speaker 1: was singing Spanish and you know, imitating different Spanish songs
- 8:05Speaker 1: that I heard and dancing. And you know, for me,
- 8:09Speaker 1: that sparked the level of entertainment because I wasn't afraid
- 8:12Speaker 1: to you know, yeah, and be the eyeball in the room,
- 8:16Speaker 1: per se and uh, you know, to give it, to
- 8:20Speaker 1: give a person a chuckle or laugh. It brought me
- 8:22Speaker 1: great joy that I was able to give them joy.
- 8:24Speaker 1: So I think that's something that I actually held onto.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Being a class clown and different things like that. But
- 8:29Speaker 1: once again, I say this dish actually really represents like
- 8:32Speaker 1: the times when I you know, didn't know what to cook.
- 8:35Speaker 1: You know, you know, it was the it was the
- 8:36Speaker 1: cheapest thing to buy. There was there was times where
- 8:39Speaker 1: you know, money was just really really short. That's like
- 8:43Speaker 1: a go to.
- 8:44Speaker 3: But now you said that when you were when you
- 8:47Speaker 3: were a child, but you lacked faith, Like why would
- 8:50Speaker 3: you say that, say black face?
- 8:52Speaker 2: Yeah you said like black face. I thought you did
- 8:57Speaker 2: because I was like, that's interesting that you said.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I mean maybe maybe at manage, maybe I did like
- 9:01Speaker 1: some faith. I mean, you know, I mean if I
- 9:05Speaker 1: did say that, I would say to this that your
- 9:09Speaker 1: favor is challenge and you may be leaving something as
- 9:12Speaker 1: a kid, but you have people around telling you that
- 9:14Speaker 1: you can't be a scientist. Oh that's gonna take you
- 9:17Speaker 1: thirty two years, Like damn, thanks for discouraging me. But
- 9:20Speaker 1: they gave me the truth at the same time. So
- 9:22Speaker 1: it's like, but a kid can't process that at a
- 9:24Speaker 1: young age, right, You kind of need that pat on
- 9:27Speaker 1: the back and say yeah, you can do it. And
- 9:29Speaker 1: if you do, see you know that the interest is
- 9:32Speaker 1: really there for a kid. You have to continue to
- 9:34Speaker 1: put those roadblocks in front of them for the sake
- 9:36Speaker 1: and continue to elevate if that's what it is, because
- 9:38Speaker 1: I feel like a lot of us could be. I
- 9:40Speaker 1: feel like everyone should know physics to the highest level.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I feel like we're all scientists. I feel like we're
- 9:44Speaker 1: all super intelligence, the way our bodies are made, the
- 9:46Speaker 1: way the universe works, And I just feel like we've
- 9:49Speaker 1: been taught to be dumbed down versus to be super enlightened.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And I feel like when I look at countries like
- 9:54Speaker 1: China and how they brought seven hundred million people out
- 9:57Speaker 1: of poverty in thirty years, it's that's how you empower culture, right,
- 10:02Speaker 1: And you wonder why the the end, the Chinese n
- 10:05Speaker 1: is the number one currency in the world, which I
- 10:08Speaker 1: knew that was going to happen eventually anyway, because the
- 10:11Speaker 1: way America's running their currency. So that's a whole other conversation.
- 10:14Speaker 2: That's a definite whole of the conversation.
- 10:17Speaker 3: How old were you when you started B two K,
- 10:20Speaker 3: when you got into B two.
- 10:21Speaker 1: K, it's a good question, probably the thirteen and a half, fourteen,
- 10:25Speaker 1: maybe thirteen and a.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Half, So what led to that? So you're eight, so
- 10:28Speaker 3: what I'm what I'm gathering is like, you're eight years old.
- 10:30Speaker 3: You're definitely not your typical eight year old I don't know,
- 10:34Speaker 3: eight or nine year olds driving stick shifted cars.
- 10:36Speaker 2: And yeah, rolling out in the street.
- 10:37Speaker 3: Yeah, So how did how did how did that nine
- 10:40Speaker 3: year old self transition into like a B two K moment?
- 10:43Speaker 1: That that's a good question. You know, I have a
- 10:45Speaker 1: family in the industry, you know, I would definitely say
- 10:48Speaker 1: that was a segue, that was a that was definitely
- 10:50Speaker 1: a path of bridge those my cousin okay, right, and
- 10:56Speaker 1: my brother was I would say my brother was really
- 10:59Speaker 1: more interested in the music industry per se than me.
- 11:01Speaker 1: So there was times where he brought me along for
- 11:03Speaker 1: his talent shows and we had this little group we
- 11:05Speaker 1: call called brothers Too, And you know, just to give
- 11:09Speaker 1: like people a little context of my life. You know,
- 11:11Speaker 1: my mom was going through and beuse some relationship at
- 11:13Speaker 1: the time, and I was in and at a foster home.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So around the ages of twelve and after thirteen, my
- 11:18Speaker 1: cousin Christus was able to take over guardianship for me,
- 11:21Speaker 1: and I think it was pretty cool that just kind
- 11:23Speaker 1: of like growing up and seeing different groups and different
- 11:25Speaker 1: being inspired by some of his work that I had
- 11:28Speaker 1: the opportunity to be around something that inspired me, which
- 11:32Speaker 1: was as a kid with a light, right, There's a
- 11:34Speaker 1: lot that comes along with being inspired, and we got
- 11:36Speaker 1: to make sure you find the right lights. Right. I
- 11:38Speaker 1: feel like I learned a lot of great things over there,
- 11:40Speaker 1: and for the most part, I was able to grow
- 11:43Speaker 1: into myself and he provided an opportunity. It was a
- 11:48Speaker 1: group that he was working with called Melodic and that
- 11:50Speaker 1: group was consistent of four members, which was Jay Bug,
- 11:54Speaker 1: Little Fish, and JAHI, which was which is jimya Oukle's brother,
- 12:02Speaker 1: and our brother Trey and we you know. It was
- 12:06Speaker 1: kind of I felt like the eye ball that joined
- 12:09Speaker 1: the group because they already had a four main group
- 12:10Speaker 1: and I was like the fifth member. But now that
- 12:12Speaker 1: I'm older, I never asked anybody about this. I would
- 12:14Speaker 1: like to know why did they accept me. I kind
- 12:18Speaker 1: of felt like maybe because my cousin had, you know,
- 12:21Speaker 1: you know, previous success in the industry and had relationships
- 12:24Speaker 1: and I don't really know politics behind it, but they
- 12:26Speaker 1: accepted me. I kind of feel like the eyeball, But
- 12:28Speaker 1: I felt like I eventually fit in a group and
- 12:31Speaker 1: we went on to travel to multiple different labels, auditioned
- 12:35Speaker 1: for him, sung for them, nobody signed us. So but
- 12:38Speaker 1: we came across one label that thought the three of us,
- 12:40Speaker 1: which was Jay Bug, myself and Fizz, they thought we
- 12:43Speaker 1: were pretty dope and they felt like we were just
- 12:45Speaker 1: missing the right lead singer because they felt like the
- 12:47Speaker 1: other two guys maybe looked a little too older for
- 12:49Speaker 1: the group, which I thought I didn't really think about
- 12:52Speaker 1: it to now, but maybe they did. They looked a
- 12:54Speaker 1: little bit more mature than we did. And we had
- 12:56Speaker 1: the three of us had a chemistry, which those two
- 12:58Speaker 1: guys went on to start another group called Final Four
- 13:00Speaker 1: and got signed to MCA. So I was happy that
- 13:03Speaker 1: they had that experience, but B two K actually went
- 13:06Speaker 1: on to do our thing.
- 13:08Speaker 2: So you you three, this was prior to a Mario.
- 13:11Speaker 1: This is prior to a Mario getting in the group.
- 13:13Speaker 1: We went through it. We went through about a good
- 13:14Speaker 1: year and a half two years before we met a Mari.
- 13:18Speaker 3: So so you have the three of you guys and
- 13:21Speaker 3: they're like, let's search for a lead and then where
- 13:23Speaker 3: does a Marion come in?
- 13:24Speaker 1: But that's a good I'm gonna give you some some
- 13:26Speaker 1: more contacts and give you some more details, so that
- 13:28Speaker 1: label had actually seen the vision was Epic Records at
- 13:31Speaker 1: the time, I believe. I don't want to get caught
- 13:35Speaker 1: up with titles, but I know David Fisher was probably
- 13:38Speaker 1: either the president or vice president or you know, the
- 13:41Speaker 1: really top executive, along with poly Anthony rest in peace, Polly,
- 13:44Speaker 1: we love you, Thank you for everything, and Tommy Mantola
- 13:47Speaker 1: was a top guy. And we were very fortunate enough
- 13:52Speaker 1: to meet with Max Goose. We love you Max, I
- 13:56Speaker 1: can't forget Max. Max was the one of the main
- 13:58Speaker 1: champions for B two K, you know, to who brought
- 14:00Speaker 1: in Davey Frish and Jamie Frisch and signed Backstreet Boy.
- 14:02Speaker 1: So that was pretty cool too, And so we had
- 14:05Speaker 1: people with experience of boys groups and it was crazy
- 14:08Speaker 1: because the negotiations went back and forth, you know that
- 14:11Speaker 1: woman and they was interested in the signing. That's and
- 14:14Speaker 1: they were interested, but they didn't have the fourth member.
- 14:18Speaker 1: And I remember there was an artist I don't know
- 14:21Speaker 1: his name, but it was along the lines of like,
- 14:24Speaker 1: I don't know, so I don't want to butcher it,
- 14:27Speaker 1: but I think Keith Sweat having solo artists that potentially
- 14:30Speaker 1: they was thinking about putting them in a group. That
- 14:32Speaker 1: guy never popped up. Mm hm, oh yeah, that's looking good.
- 14:36Speaker 1: So that guy never.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Listen, we're gonna eat together.
- 14:40Speaker 1: It's gonna take it. It's gonna take a brother back.
- 14:44Speaker 2: There was a you don't put the seasoning in.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Well, I mean, I think everybody likes their own season
- 14:49Speaker 1: so I wasn't. I wasn't here. Let me get your ball.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Okay, I'm watching you. You know the way you eat it. Okay,
- 14:56Speaker 3: if you get season it however you like. I mean,
- 14:59Speaker 3: you know, I'm gonna be nice today.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I cook the news. I'm gonna let you put I
- 15:04Speaker 1: do put butter and seasons on. Those are like my
- 15:06Speaker 1: main two ingredients, you know what I'm saying. Like, those
- 15:08Speaker 1: are my go to seasons. Man, you put that, you
- 15:10Speaker 1: or anything, but but yo. So that so that that
- 15:14Speaker 1: artist never popped up. So it was three of us
- 15:16Speaker 1: just lingering around. So I remember meeting a Marion at
- 15:19Speaker 1: Marcus Houston's eighteenth birthday party, and I thought he was dope.
- 15:21Speaker 1: He was like I think he had his timbering boots on,
- 15:24Speaker 1: he his corn rolls, you know what I'm saying. He
- 15:26Speaker 1: was a background dancing for Before Dark and you know,
- 15:29Speaker 1: thank you, and he was he's like a background that's
- 15:32Speaker 1: for before dark. He had his cameos, he was doing
- 15:34Speaker 1: his thing, and I like the fact that he was
- 15:37Speaker 1: already in the industry. He wasn't afraid to get in
- 15:39Speaker 1: the circle. Some people be afraid to get in that
- 15:41Speaker 1: circle and dances be dancing and they make the circle
- 15:43Speaker 1: at like a party or something of that. So I
- 15:45Speaker 1: was like, Yo, this guy is cool. So I remember
- 15:46Speaker 1: me and the guys we were having a conversation where
- 15:49Speaker 1: he's like, yeah, we did to chop it up with him.
- 15:50Speaker 1: I'm not sure if we all walked off, like to
- 15:52Speaker 1: the side, and maybe we walked in the bathroom or
- 15:54Speaker 1: we walked out. I don't remember all the defining details,
- 15:57Speaker 1: but what I do remember is we had a conversation
- 15:59Speaker 1: with the guy and he wasn't opposed to joining the group,
- 16:02Speaker 1: being a solo artist already or pursuing his his dreams.
- 16:07Speaker 1: We thought he would be a good fit because at
- 16:09Speaker 1: this time we were already on the radar of the labels.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Yeah right, but he says, didn't have the official signature.
- 16:15Speaker 1: You have the we have the Fisher signature deal. So
- 16:17Speaker 1: I typically take I used the season that maybe too
- 16:20Speaker 1: much for maybe for I take this. If you need
- 16:24Speaker 1: more seasons, I how to take this, and of course
- 16:26Speaker 1: I take the butter.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Always take the butter.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Okay, typically put the butter in.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Oh you put the butter in first? Yeah, okay.
- 16:33Speaker 3: So o Marion, at the time you meet him, he's
- 16:35Speaker 3: he's a singer slash dancer or is he mainly a dance.
- 16:39Speaker 1: He was actually a rapper and he was he was
- 16:43Speaker 1: a rapper. Box of weeds to eat, the feed, the greedy's.
- 16:45Speaker 1: He had his little rappers all you do. But A
- 16:47Speaker 1: Mario was lit. Mario has always been lit, you know
- 16:49Speaker 1: what I'm saying. He had his Pops commercial, he had,
- 16:51Speaker 1: he was you know, he was working with his company
- 16:54Speaker 1: called I think it was called Abrams or something like that.
- 16:56Speaker 1: And am I right was Abrams? Yeah? It was as
- 16:59Speaker 1: got but uh, you know, amar was ma was dope.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Me and a Mari actually really got along. And I
- 17:05Speaker 1: thought it was cool that he actually joined our group.
- 17:08Speaker 1: He right should have puted him out a little soiler, so,
- 17:14Speaker 1: you know, but I thought it was dope Mario. Eventually,
- 17:17Speaker 1: after we had that meeting in the bathroom or in
- 17:19Speaker 1: the hallway wherever, that was Marion wound up coming up
- 17:25Speaker 1: to the house and we like kind of like dance
- 17:26Speaker 1: for him in there, and we did our little routines.
- 17:29Speaker 1: We showed our we we displayed our talents, and he
- 17:31Speaker 1: displayed his talents. Then we started immediately learning routines together.
- 17:36Speaker 1: And as we started to look like it was a
- 17:39Speaker 1: the chemistry was there. I think the biggest thing that
- 17:59Speaker 1: we like at that time was was vocally, So it
- 18:02Speaker 1: took some time for us going to you know, really
- 18:05Speaker 1: learn how to use our instruments. You know what I mean.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I believe everybody can sing, but you just got to
- 18:09Speaker 1: train your voice, you know what I'm saying, and then
- 18:11Speaker 1: and then and then find out what's what's good for you.
- 18:14Speaker 1: And I think there's a lot of artists that came,
- 18:16Speaker 1: you know, through this business that actually, if I'm gonna
- 18:19Speaker 1: put just a little bit on this because us I
- 18:22Speaker 1: forgot I think that.
- 18:23Speaker 3: So how long did it take for you guys from
- 18:25Speaker 3: from bringing a marian on practicing and exploring your vocals together.
- 18:29Speaker 2: How long did it take before you guys got signed?
- 18:31Speaker 1: Well, you know, just like the first group, which was
- 18:33Speaker 1: called Melodic, it was about five of us in the group.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Like I said, I was the fifth member, the awkward guy.
- 18:40Speaker 1: But after many people, hey, after many people pass up
- 18:44Speaker 1: on us, you know, eventually we went to that little phase,
- 18:49Speaker 1: that down period where we you know, had our hopes
- 18:51Speaker 1: of hot things and there was a member was going
- 18:52Speaker 1: to come in and we got the label They're kind
- 18:54Speaker 1: of interesting us already and then that.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Just dies, right so and is Crystal managing you or yet?
- 19:00Speaker 1: Yep? And then and then we come back from what
- 19:03Speaker 1: I recall, we we we get a Mari and then
- 19:06Speaker 1: we go through all of the labels again, seez right,
- 19:10Speaker 1: they all passed. There was a level of interest where
- 19:13Speaker 1: Arister Records and La Re was courting us for some
- 19:15Speaker 1: time because Louis Silence was involved Rest in Peace to
- 19:18Speaker 1: Little Silence, and it was really interesting to the fact
- 19:21Speaker 1: that they still passed on us. So now we still
- 19:26Speaker 1: we're still in this same like entanglement with Epic Records,
- 19:30Speaker 1: and you know, we would see them at different industry
- 19:33Speaker 1: events because BJK step kept going and now we got
- 19:35Speaker 1: the four. We still even though you're to sign us,
- 19:37Speaker 1: we're still moving now.
- 19:38Speaker 2: When you guys are still performing, where we still perform
- 19:41Speaker 2: wherever we.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Can we building a buzz when the world start, we
- 19:43Speaker 1: do word up magazines. You know. Now we were in
- 19:47Speaker 1: vow Wow's Ghetto Girls video. Now we're in hold on
- 19:51Speaker 1: where we signed, Max, where we sign I'm gonna have
- 19:53Speaker 1: to call you after this. Were we signed when we
- 19:55Speaker 1: did the Ghetto Girls video. I don't know we got
- 19:57Speaker 1: to come back to that. That's different because but we
- 20:00Speaker 1: we did so much to the label to where we
- 20:03Speaker 1: did so much, So when we came back to the label,
- 20:06Speaker 1: I remember meeting like Tiss Williams who managed three O
- 20:10Speaker 1: wor overs Ol Train, and that was set up by
- 20:12Speaker 1: management because they had relationships and they let us meet.
- 20:16Speaker 1: But now that I'm older, I realized that meeting was
- 20:18Speaker 1: what led to Marvin Pearton because we've been circling around
- 20:22Speaker 1: this label for a long time. Marvin Peer had a little,
- 20:25Speaker 1: i think a higher status than maybe Max Goos, and
- 20:29Speaker 1: maybe it was in a different lane in the company
- 20:31Speaker 1: than David Person. But somehow he had the ear of
- 20:34Speaker 1: Polyantheony Polly's right under Tommy. So somehow, I don't know
- 20:38Speaker 1: how it happened, but we wind up performing for the
- 20:41Speaker 1: entire label inside of five point fifty meterson in New York.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Because everybody's like Who the fuck is this group? Why
- 20:47Speaker 1: are they fucking like? Yea, what is all this energy
- 20:49Speaker 1: about this group? We wound up shutting the building down.
- 20:52Speaker 2: So like other other departments are coming over to.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Everybody that was in. Sony came in the lunch cafeteria.
- 20:57Speaker 1: They set up a stage for the actually spent money
- 20:59Speaker 1: on his say, flew us out, and you know, they
- 21:01Speaker 1: were still courting us, you know what I'm saying. And
- 21:04Speaker 1: finally we got that opportunity to perform for Time Ontold
- 21:06Speaker 1: and Tim mototally was like, you know, we performed him
- 21:09Speaker 1: by ourself and he he pulled the trigger. But it
- 21:14Speaker 1: was a crazy journey, like you know, it was crazy.
- 21:16Speaker 1: It took some years, you know, but in nineteen nine nine,
- 21:19Speaker 1: I remember getting that deal. I had tears in my eyes.
- 21:21Speaker 1: It was it was, it was we were so excited
- 21:23Speaker 1: because it was something that we worked so hard for,
- 21:25Speaker 1: especially at the time where we felt like the label,
- 21:28Speaker 1: our production company was going to drop us. You know,
- 21:30Speaker 1: they didn't really want to, uh, you know, they didn't
- 21:32Speaker 1: think it was going to be able to happen because
- 21:34Speaker 1: they spent so much money to get us to what
- 21:36Speaker 1: we got. There was times where we even added a
- 21:38Speaker 1: fifth member from another group called Third Story to be
- 21:40Speaker 1: a part of the group.
- 21:42Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, you guys were really beating
- 21:43Speaker 3: the pavements. So when you get your deal, you get signed. Now,
- 21:47Speaker 3: B two K, what year was it that you guys?
- 21:51Speaker 3: You got signed in ninety nine? But what year was
- 21:52Speaker 3: the tipping point where everybody was like, look gay everywhere?
- 21:55Speaker 3: Oh nice, sorry, slurp them ramins.
- 21:59Speaker 1: No.
- 22:00Speaker 3: B two K kind of like popped on the scene
- 22:02Speaker 3: and exploded. It wasn't like it wasn't like a gradual
- 22:05Speaker 3: like even you know, like when you look at Rihanna's career,
- 22:07Speaker 3: Rihanna was dropping records before Umbrella.
- 22:09Speaker 2: And then Umbrella took it and it just you know,
- 22:12Speaker 2: B two K kind of went right away. Am I wrong?
- 22:15Speaker 1: That's a good I mean wrong. Well, Rihanna's story is different.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Rihanna got signed by jay Z out the Gate, she
- 22:23Speaker 1: was doing challenge shows. B two K was already in
- 22:26Speaker 1: the industry.
- 22:26Speaker 2: But but that's what I'm saying.
- 22:28Speaker 1: It because of the people that we had behind us,
- 22:31Speaker 1: immature as the Chris Stokes and stuff, so we had
- 22:33Speaker 1: a little bit more accents. So I feel like it
- 22:36Speaker 1: didn't It may appear for some people like it happened overnight,
- 22:39Speaker 1: but for us, it didn't.
- 22:41Speaker 3: We were Lise saying from the time you signed, though,
- 22:44Speaker 3: from the time you signed. I'm not talking about before
- 22:47Speaker 3: because it sounds like you guys ran a marathon. I
- 22:48Speaker 3: feel like when you signed. How how fast it go
- 22:51Speaker 3: from signing to multi places?
- 22:54Speaker 1: That's a really good question, but I'm to put to
- 22:57Speaker 1: put you right there and then like the little middle park,
- 23:01Speaker 1: because we were lit, we got a eight we have,
- 23:03Speaker 1: we got we got offered a superstar deal, not a
- 23:06Speaker 1: little development deal, so they already knew we was gonna pop. Okay,
- 23:10Speaker 1: So for people who'd just seen us in two thousand
- 23:12Speaker 1: and one, after we got our deal at Night late
- 23:14Speaker 1: nineteen ninety nine, fourth Quarter Night nineteen niney nine, we
- 23:17Speaker 1: spent that whole two thousand working on an album You
- 23:21Speaker 1: Feel Me, So it was already you know, they put
- 23:24Speaker 1: millions behind it, so it was gonna pop. They already
- 23:26Speaker 1: knew the group was dope. It was really just about
- 23:27Speaker 1: finding the right records. So to give you that between
- 23:30Speaker 1: nineteen between nineteen ninety nine we got signed fourth Quarter,
- 23:33Speaker 1: like I don't know, I told them November December somewhere
- 23:35Speaker 1: around there, spent that year recording. Our first album came
- 23:40Speaker 1: out in March twelve, two thousand and one, and they
- 23:44Speaker 1: had to put the singles number. It was thirteen weeks
- 23:46Speaker 1: at number one. It's so over a half a million copy?
- 23:48Speaker 2: What single was that again?
- 23:49Speaker 1: Uh huh? And it was produced by Tricky Stewart. It
- 23:54Speaker 1: even won us a buildble toward. But they pulled that
- 23:56Speaker 1: record back because I believe they like a little special
- 24:01Speaker 1: DVD with it, like it was a DVD with the
- 24:03Speaker 1: video attention single, and they put it back because they
- 24:06Speaker 1: wanted to say that for the album that was coming,
- 24:09Speaker 1: that single would have want Probably I don't I don't
- 24:11Speaker 1: know the sound scan today, but it probably went on
- 24:13Speaker 1: to be a platinum single. And but during that time,
- 24:16Speaker 1: it took us about six I could be wrong, three
- 24:19Speaker 1: to six months to break that record. The visual really
- 24:22Speaker 1: helped break the song, you know what I'm saying. And
- 24:24Speaker 1: a lot of people don't know even though we you know,
- 24:27Speaker 1: were urban group, we actually had a pop record, you
- 24:30Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. We were number one on the
- 24:32Speaker 1: the you know, the Hot one hundreds for thirteen weeks. Yeah,
- 24:36Speaker 1: so that was that was some That was some big ship.
- 24:39Speaker 1: And then you got the support of a billion dollar
- 24:40Speaker 1: company spending millions behind you, You're going to get access
- 24:42Speaker 1: to everything.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Now was that so at the time?
- 24:46Speaker 3: Now this is you know, the industry has been notorious
- 24:50Speaker 3: for taking advantage of groups, or there have been groups
- 24:54Speaker 3: that have been taken advantage of in the industry. So
- 24:57Speaker 3: you guys are a young group of guys, your teenagers. Right,
- 25:02Speaker 3: you get signed, you get this deal, but you do
- 25:04Speaker 3: come from the industry. So I'm guessing your deal wasn't
- 25:06Speaker 3: like a terrible deal, right.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I believe B two K got a good deal, but
- 25:10Speaker 1: you gotta understand, you know, you can't fought. You know,
- 25:14Speaker 1: people prayers from lack of knowledge. Right. A lot of
- 25:16Speaker 1: people want to fault the labels, like the way math
- 25:19Speaker 1: is put together. It's like math magicians, right, the way
- 25:22Speaker 1: the industry is put there there there, you know, at
- 25:24Speaker 1: that old business model that is now different, is evolved
- 25:27Speaker 1: in the change. A lot of these labels will say, hey,
- 25:31Speaker 1: we spending all these millions of dollars and we make
- 25:33Speaker 1: you into this, but we don't get any money from
- 25:35Speaker 1: touring merchandise this. So that's why they started creating three sixties.
- 25:39Speaker 1: So we got to think about the labels. If I
- 25:40Speaker 1: was spending my money as a label, I'm like, yo,
- 25:42Speaker 1: they got to recoup it now only they got to
- 25:45Speaker 1: recoup it. I made this human being and I put
- 25:48Speaker 1: this artist to where he's at. Right, So some people
- 25:52Speaker 1: like to complain. You just have to look at the deal.
- 25:55Speaker 1: You have to try to negotiate the best deal for yourself,
- 25:57Speaker 1: you know what I mean, and take accountability for what
- 26:00Speaker 1: type of deal that you signed. Don't be mad at
- 26:02Speaker 1: at Listen. If I'm in business, you got some I
- 26:04Speaker 1: don't want to say shisty, but you got some people
- 26:06Speaker 1: that's gonna try to negotiate better than you. Right, negotiate
- 26:11Speaker 1: if you feel that it's not at the time, maybe
- 26:13Speaker 1: maybe you shouldn't take that deal. And that's when people say, hey,
- 26:15Speaker 1: you sold out, right, Maybe you shouldn't have voted so early.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Maybe you should have just went on like for example
- 26:20Speaker 1: b TK, if we would have maybe held out a
- 26:22Speaker 1: little bit longer, maybe we got to even better deal. Right,
- 26:25Speaker 1: But you got to be grateful for the fact that
- 26:29Speaker 1: we were able to get to a point, which is
- 26:32Speaker 1: like very rare, right to get a superstar deal, not
- 26:35Speaker 1: just a development deal or a little smarter like a
- 26:37Speaker 1: really major deal and have the whole label and company
- 26:40Speaker 1: behind you pushing you. That's a major you have to
- 26:43Speaker 1: you have to blow up. If you don't blow up,
- 26:45Speaker 1: people getting fired.
- 26:46Speaker 3: Were you guys looking at the marketing budget going, yes,
- 26:48Speaker 3: this is definitely a big deal.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Well, you know, for me, I didn't see it, but
- 26:51Speaker 1: I knew better.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Okay, okay, you know.
- 26:55Speaker 1: I knew it was I knew it was some millions.
- 26:57Speaker 3: So what was the first thing you spent your money
- 27:00Speaker 3: on once you saw like, what was the first big
- 27:02Speaker 3: check you got?
- 27:02Speaker 2: And what was the first thing you bought with it?
- 27:04Speaker 1: I think it was probably like twenty five thousand, maybe
- 27:08Speaker 1: probably some clothes?
- 27:11Speaker 2: And what was your mom thinking at the time?
- 27:13Speaker 1: You know, my mom wasn't around. She was dealing with
- 27:16Speaker 1: her own you know, you know, trials and tribulations in
- 27:18Speaker 1: life with relationships and whatnot. But she gave me the
- 27:22Speaker 1: blessings to you know, there's something I always wanted to
- 27:24Speaker 1: do as a kid, and she she she she gave
- 27:27Speaker 1: me a blessings and she she allowed for me to
- 27:29Speaker 1: you know, to move forward as as an adolescent because
- 27:32Speaker 1: I'm you know, I'm at a young age between like
- 27:36Speaker 1: thirteen and damn. I got my deal when I was
- 27:39Speaker 1: like fifth, almost fourteen and a half.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Okay, So I met you around So it's so funny
- 27:46Speaker 3: because we've had this talk when we're in it in
- 27:48Speaker 3: Texas together and we can't remember how we met, which
- 27:51Speaker 3: is crazy because you're the only you remember how you
- 27:53Speaker 3: met and I still have no idea how.
- 27:56Speaker 2: We met or whatever.
- 27:57Speaker 3: But when I met you, I think it was it
- 28:01Speaker 3: was after B two K, before before China, after B
- 28:06Speaker 3: two K.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Okay, so you were level B two K was leveling out.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I would say, right, yeah, I believe at the time
- 28:12Speaker 1: B K was dispanding the delay K was dis span.
- 28:17Speaker 2: And when that happened, Marioan was solo. Oh yeah, Mario
- 28:21Speaker 2: went mari was solo, and.
- 28:26Speaker 1: That's around the time that we met. Yeah.
- 28:28Speaker 3: Yeah, so at that time, So you have now reached
- 28:31Speaker 3: all this success. Now you go, you're on the roller
- 28:35Speaker 3: coaster ride. What are your thoughts around the time when
- 28:37Speaker 3: we knew each other?
- 28:39Speaker 1: Sheesh? Just how fast things can change and adapting to
- 28:44Speaker 1: you know, not having this machine that you were part of,
- 28:48Speaker 1: that you helped build, you know, actually operating around you
- 28:51Speaker 1: every day, even though you have the brand that you
- 28:54Speaker 1: are those years. It took me time to understand what
- 28:58Speaker 1: I got. Who am I What happened to me was
- 29:01Speaker 1: this experience?
- 29:02Speaker 2: How old were you though?
- 29:03Speaker 3: You were like probably like twenties, right or not even,
- 29:10Speaker 3: But that's what I'm saying. Look how young you were
- 29:11Speaker 3: when you have to You're looking You're thinking.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Like, that's that's that's a crazy experience.
- 29:15Speaker 1: What are you saying?
- 29:16Speaker 3: I mean?
- 29:16Speaker 1: But that's life for you, know what I mean? You know,
- 29:19Speaker 1: we're I try not to get so caught up in
- 29:22Speaker 1: the matrix, but we're amazing human beings. Like I always
- 29:25Speaker 1: say that, Like I just think that we're like amazing
- 29:27Speaker 1: human beings. And I just thank God for the experiences
- 29:30Speaker 1: because when I look back at that time, I was like,
- 29:32Speaker 1: the fuck was she thinking? Like how did you make
- 29:34Speaker 1: it through? Excuse me? How did you make it through?
- 29:38Speaker 1: But it was definitely a huge transition for me because
- 29:43Speaker 1: you had to adapt to the money not coming all
- 29:45Speaker 1: the time, you know, maybe getting a quarterly or or
- 29:48Speaker 1: semi aily check. You know, I mean, you can't you
- 29:51Speaker 1: can't sustain yourself over that, you know what I mean?
- 29:53Speaker 1: And then you you're going you start to look back
- 29:55Speaker 1: at the deal you want to get bitter, but you
- 29:57Speaker 1: also have to think about, Okay, during that time, much
- 30:00Speaker 1: money that you make, regardless if you feel like you
- 30:02Speaker 1: can get your just do with this? Did you do
- 30:04Speaker 1: right by that money? So you have to you have
- 30:05Speaker 1: to start to say hell, you know what, you can't
- 30:07Speaker 1: blame anybody in life. You have to learn and take
- 30:09Speaker 1: accountability for yourself at a very young age, even though
- 30:12Speaker 1: you want to, but you do because that at a
- 30:14Speaker 1: young age, we're making our own decisions. So you're you're
- 30:17Speaker 1: kind of grown, but you really don't have the knowledge
- 30:19Speaker 1: you make them.
- 30:20Speaker 3: But was there any when you were making those decisions
- 30:22Speaker 3: on spending the money? Were there any adults or accountants
- 30:25Speaker 3: or people saying, hey, man, don't do this, or was
- 30:28Speaker 3: there any training on how to handle money.
- 30:30Speaker 1: At that when you I believe out of all the
- 30:33Speaker 1: guys I was, I was the one that people thought
- 30:36Speaker 1: that yo er probably wouldn't blow his blow a lout
- 30:38Speaker 1: his cash, you know what I'm saying. But yeah, I
- 30:41Speaker 1: ran through like three hundred thousand and six months. You
- 30:44Speaker 1: know what I'm saying without any financial literacy. You really
- 30:47Speaker 1: don't know how to handle that. And you're not trying
- 30:49Speaker 1: to listen to anybody as well. You know what I'm saying,
- 30:51Speaker 1: You want to go buy three cars and the motorcycle
- 30:53Speaker 1: and you got all these fucking bills and you just
- 30:55Speaker 1: keep paying money. Before you know what, shit's gone. Yeah,
- 30:58Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So it's like and I
- 31:00Speaker 1: I really feel like with the money that beach K
- 31:02Speaker 1: was generating, the money that was generated from beach K,
- 31:04Speaker 1: I don't really feel like we we got our dress do.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I feel like recently, you know, the tour that we
- 31:10Speaker 1: that we just did, and I was very instrumental putting
- 31:12Speaker 1: it and producing and bringing it together. I feel like
- 31:15Speaker 1: that was a good payday for all of us because
- 31:16Speaker 1: the tour did over twenty million dollars.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Wow, and you had the production well, you had putting
- 31:21Speaker 2: that whole thing together.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Well. For me, when beach K did disband, it was
- 31:25Speaker 1: really hard for me just to let go. I'm like, damn,
- 31:27Speaker 1: I'm invested in my life, my time sacrifice and I
- 31:30Speaker 1: finished in school and so many different things like how
- 31:32Speaker 1: are we not to how are we just alienated from
- 31:36Speaker 1: the business and we can't go out there and capitalize
- 31:38Speaker 1: on our success.
- 31:39Speaker 2: What was the ultimate thing that disbands you guys?
- 31:42Speaker 1: Definitely it would say the fact that you know, management
- 31:46Speaker 1: and production companies were really influenced and had that opportunity
- 31:50Speaker 1: to be able to tell the narrative to the labels
- 31:52Speaker 1: and be able to go get that deal for Marion,
- 31:54Speaker 1: which eventually doing it out to you know whatever, doing
- 31:58Speaker 1: it too respectfully cool run over there. But it's like
- 32:01Speaker 1: when you look at the artists like the Justin's and
- 32:03Speaker 1: Justin Timberlake's and you look at the Beyonce, there's no
- 32:05Speaker 1: shots fire at Marion. I've always wanted to mari to
- 32:08Speaker 1: be like that top solo artist, and I felt like
- 32:12Speaker 1: how he came out, it was so much backlash that
- 32:15Speaker 1: he received and so much misunderstanding that he that people
- 32:18Speaker 1: didn't have of him in regards to how the deal
- 32:23Speaker 1: was orchestrated. And I feel like a Mario is probably
- 32:26Speaker 1: like a pond in that situation, because if we would
- 32:28Speaker 1: have all left together collectively, we would have had our
- 32:31Speaker 1: en sync no streams attached album, you know what I'm saying,
- 32:34Speaker 1: leaving lou Pearlman per se. So I don't know, there's
- 32:37Speaker 1: a lot there.
- 32:38Speaker 2: You know.
- 32:38Speaker 1: It always kind of like hunts me or if I
- 32:41Speaker 1: go to like go down that lane, what it had been,
- 32:44Speaker 1: but you know, it's the way it was designed, you know,
- 32:48Speaker 1: and especially in the old and I'll be quick about
- 32:51Speaker 1: this in the in the old boy group formula groups
- 32:55Speaker 1: last one, two or three albums. You know, they attend
- 32:58Speaker 1: to divide and conquer, and I just feel like B
- 33:01Speaker 1: took should have been a lot stronger.
- 33:02Speaker 2: How many albums DoD B two K put out?
- 33:04Speaker 1: We put out a lot of product in such a
- 33:06Speaker 1: in a short time span, but really two studio albums,
- 33:11Speaker 1: a soundtrack that was considered an album or at least
- 33:13Speaker 1: counted towards an album, uh, two remix albums, and some DVDs.
- 33:17Speaker 1: So we kept a lot of content out which I
- 33:19Speaker 1: thought was pretty cool and pretty unique for B two K.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Just this is apply the demand. And I say this
- 33:25Speaker 1: in closing, like just just growing older in the business.
- 33:28Speaker 1: You know, you have to understand the business aspect of it.
- 33:30Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. We love music, but for
- 33:31Speaker 1: the most part, you have to understand the business aspect
- 33:34Speaker 1: of the business. When you understand that that you can
- 33:36Speaker 1: you know, you can really benefit from it. You know,
- 33:39Speaker 1: for example, you have a company that invested I don't know,
- 33:42Speaker 1: millions of dollars. Let's say over ten to fifteen million,
- 33:44Speaker 1: twenty million dollars into my brand. I'm still rasby to
- 33:47Speaker 1: this day. Yeah, so you know, I mean whether they
- 33:50Speaker 1: make money off me, which they still do to this day,
- 33:53Speaker 1: you know, and I still make money too from from
- 33:55Speaker 1: from my previous work. You know, you got to be
- 33:57Speaker 1: thinking for the opportunity you got. And that's why I
- 33:59Speaker 1: want to encourage a lot of artists to not you know,
- 34:01Speaker 1: not bash these these investors that are part of a
- 34:05Speaker 1: company that are shareholders because they want they don't want
- 34:07Speaker 1: to lose money either, but they're taking a risk on
- 34:10Speaker 1: someone they don't know if it's going to happen or
- 34:11Speaker 1: not happen.
- 34:12Speaker 2: It's very risky.
- 34:13Speaker 1: You just got to, like, you know, get in the door,
- 34:16Speaker 1: you know, you know, and you know, and work your
- 34:18Speaker 1: way to the top. I mean, we've seen a lot
- 34:20Speaker 1: of artists from the jay Z to the Kanye's you know,
- 34:23Speaker 1: to Nick Cannon's and so on and so forth. Bringing
- 34:26Speaker 1: up Nick Cannon, I met you somehow your magazine because
- 34:29Speaker 1: somebody wanted to connect me for a fucking interview with you.
- 34:33Speaker 1: And you think it was that one of your partners
- 34:37Speaker 1: and something. And I think I think you were I
- 34:41Speaker 1: don't know something.
- 34:42Speaker 2: It was something around the celebrity high air. But okay,
- 34:45Speaker 2: so just I know we're going.
- 34:47Speaker 3: To close out this interview soon. But so you're riding
- 34:51Speaker 3: a wave. I got to take you back on your
- 34:52Speaker 3: roller coaster. So now the group disbands. You both through
- 34:56Speaker 3: pretty much all your money. What is he licks the
- 34:59Speaker 3: b old guys, this is this is, by the way,
- 35:02Speaker 3: for if you don't know ras this is Rasin is
- 35:04Speaker 3: truest form talking about this is like probably one of
- 35:08Speaker 3: the most realist and funniest people. I call him at
- 35:11Speaker 3: whatever Yes, I just poured it. I call him at
- 35:14Speaker 3: whatever time and super real. I will tell you more details,
- 35:18Speaker 3: but it may be too much.
- 35:19Speaker 1: But uh funny.
- 35:20Speaker 3: But so you come down off the wave, okay, be
- 35:24Speaker 3: to dismand you're now you don't have a lot of money,
- 35:28Speaker 3: So what is your thinking process?
- 35:30Speaker 1: Now that's good, that's a good question. So during that time,
- 35:34Speaker 1: you have to say to yourself, like you have to
- 35:37Speaker 1: remember who you are, what you accomplished, regardless if you
- 35:41Speaker 1: are still trying to figure out your business, trying to
- 35:43Speaker 1: collect royalties that are owed to you. You don't have
- 35:46Speaker 1: that money at the moment, so you got to go
- 35:47Speaker 1: figure this shit out. The fact that bet you Cad
- 35:51Speaker 1: sustained a big enough brand. I was still able to,
- 35:54Speaker 1: you know, get bookings ten grand here at five grand here, right,
- 35:57Speaker 1: so that was cool.
- 35:58Speaker 2: So you're like an entrepreneur selling yourself.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Completely because I'm I'm my own commodity. So I always
- 36:03Speaker 1: do how to create opportunities that I can bring value
- 36:06Speaker 1: to as an entrepreneur, as a businessman, as an executive,
- 36:08Speaker 1: I always create opportunities. Even if it wasn't me on
- 36:11Speaker 1: the on the on the forefront. A lot of people
- 36:13Speaker 1: want to be well, it's either me on the forefront
- 36:16Speaker 1: or not. No, if Rasbey can come in and add value,
- 36:18Speaker 1: help broke a deal and do this and do that,
- 36:20Speaker 1: and I can slide myself in there where I get
- 36:22Speaker 1: a little shine up here. Bro take that role. You know,
- 36:26Speaker 1: some people don't didn't really take time to learn the business.
- 36:28Speaker 1: I took time to learn the business. So I've always
- 36:29Speaker 1: been able to sustain myself, like even on the even
- 36:32Speaker 1: on the bad year, I'm still doing six figures.
- 36:34Speaker 2: So how did how did you? How did you end
- 36:36Speaker 2: up in China?
- 36:37Speaker 3: Because by the way I went looking for you, you're
- 36:39Speaker 3: like disappeared and then I was like, oh, he's in China.
- 36:42Speaker 1: But this was before that was crazy. I mean, you know,
- 36:44Speaker 1: during during the breakup, you know BJK was still super hot, right,
- 36:49Speaker 1: so you still at all the parties and still connected
- 36:52Speaker 1: the network. And it's all about how you handle your network.
- 36:54Speaker 1: You're your networking, should at work your network, they say, Right,
- 36:57Speaker 1: there's some truth to that. NBA Nerly for those that
- 37:01Speaker 1: are in the industry, and you know about the NBA Entertainmently,
- 37:04Speaker 1: you know it was the place where US basketball US
- 37:07Speaker 1: celebrities would go and we would play in our own
- 37:10Speaker 1: version of the NBA E okay, right, So there's a
- 37:13Speaker 1: lot of bit network networking going over there. For example,
- 37:16Speaker 1: one of my guys, he's like, Yo, how would you
- 37:17Speaker 1: like to perform at the Great Wall of China? Said, huh,
- 37:20Speaker 1: I said, what you know? And he sent me over
- 37:24Speaker 1: letter intent. It was a company called BTV Communications. They
- 37:27Speaker 1: wound up hooking up with how how Uplinger, who produced
- 37:30Speaker 1: a live a concerts. So this was like some huge shit.
- 37:33Speaker 1: I tried to get the boys to be a part
- 37:35Speaker 1: of it, but they weren't really interested, or maybe they
- 37:36Speaker 1: couldn't hear me, or it was just a lot of
- 37:38Speaker 1: stuff going on, so that didn't go through. It fell through.
- 37:42Speaker 1: They put up pressure releases that I was going to
- 37:44Speaker 1: be a part of the show. I was the Events
- 37:45Speaker 1: Houston Bassador. I was going to host the show, and
- 37:47Speaker 1: last minute they were telling me, you get your deal done.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Get your deal done, because they're gonna they're running out
- 37:52Speaker 1: of money and they're gonna sell the show to another
- 37:54Speaker 1: promoter and he may not want to honor the deal
- 37:56Speaker 1: that we had previously. They wind up by honoring that deal.
- 38:00Speaker 1: I wound up calling a really big lawyer and putting
- 38:02Speaker 1: out a boycott letter, which hit them hard, which brought
- 38:06Speaker 1: them back to the table to negotiate. You gotta play bahrdball.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Sometime you'd play a lot of you got to.
- 38:12Speaker 1: But it got them. I bought one of the biggest lawyers.
- 38:15Speaker 1: He was actually Chinese and American. It was pretty cool
- 38:18Speaker 1: how I did this one. And you know, some people
- 38:20Speaker 1: can get You can bring a lawyer and they can
- 38:22Speaker 1: sell out or they cannot sell out. Some lawyers partner
- 38:24Speaker 1: up with each other and they cash a check and
- 38:26Speaker 1: they tell you whatever, right. But I felt like I
- 38:28Speaker 1: found someone that was that really understood what I was
- 38:32Speaker 1: trying to accomplish. He worked out a deal where I
- 38:35Speaker 1: could still go, but I couldn't bring all the people
- 38:37Speaker 1: because I was before them, all the dancers, all the
- 38:39Speaker 1: people that I promised and talked about we were going,
- 38:41Speaker 1: and all the money they didn't want to pay me.
- 38:43Speaker 1: And I was like, fuck that deal. I don't work
- 38:45Speaker 1: to go, you know, don't You said, kick your ball over.
- 38:48Speaker 1: But I regret it because I would have been in
- 38:49Speaker 1: someone's history books one hundred years from now from hosting
- 38:52Speaker 1: the first concert at the Great Wall of China. Yeah,
- 38:55Speaker 1: that's parked the interest. Someone hit me up seven year
- 38:57Speaker 1: or four years later about an opportunity to go to China.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Okay, so is it happening one more time?
- 39:02Speaker 1: Listen? I love you too, soon soon soon, as soon
- 39:05Speaker 1: as it happens. Soon as I got that message because
- 39:08Speaker 1: I was sad, bro I was on fucking one o
- 39:10Speaker 1: six in Park telling everybody I was going to China,
- 39:12Speaker 1: like that's embarrassing, you know what, And it don't happen.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Uncle was like, yo, if it being God's will, you'll
- 39:18Speaker 1: go back. Got that message on Facebook with the China
- 39:22Speaker 1: never looked back.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Okay, awesome. So then, how so it's what I love
- 39:27Speaker 2: about you too?
- 39:28Speaker 3: Is like I was like, you like disappeared and then
- 39:30Speaker 3: you popped up on social media, and then you're already
- 39:33Speaker 3: dominating on social media really fast. Like I love when
- 39:35Speaker 3: you pop into a comment section and everybody gets all excited,
- 39:38Speaker 3: Oh ship, rest in the comments, you know what I'm
- 39:41Speaker 3: talking about?
- 39:41Speaker 2: Right? Talking about right, talking about right?
- 40:00Speaker 3: You know, they kind of get excited, like, all Ship,
- 40:02Speaker 3: what's Rad's gonna say?
- 40:03Speaker 1: Now? I'm very vocal, and I've been holding back with
- 40:06Speaker 1: a lot of restraints because I've been doing a lot
- 40:08Speaker 1: of work on myself, and I just really just you know,
- 40:12Speaker 1: I mean, I'd like to say yeah, and I'm not
- 40:14Speaker 1: afraid to say it, but I think that excites people.
- 40:17Speaker 2: I think people get really excited.
- 40:19Speaker 1: They'd be like, you know, the eyeball em just like
- 40:21Speaker 1: oh yeah, no, I mean, you know, for real, It's like,
- 40:24Speaker 1: I feel like I feel like I have the short
- 40:26Speaker 1: end of the stick with the beach k deal. I
- 40:28Speaker 1: feel like, you know, they decided to go on Marion solo.
- 40:30Speaker 1: I feel like I would have been the better bet.
- 40:33Speaker 1: We're talking just no shade to Marion. I just feel
- 40:35Speaker 1: like I would have been the better bet, you know,
- 40:36Speaker 1: because there's a lot of things a lot of qualities
- 40:38Speaker 1: that I have that I feel like, you know, it
- 40:40Speaker 1: takes to be a to sustain in a solo career.
- 40:43Speaker 1: He does. He's done very well for what he's been given.
- 40:46Speaker 1: I just feel like I never had that opportunity right
- 40:48Speaker 1: and I feel like what I've done, I took the
- 40:51Speaker 1: long road to carve out the space that I have now,
- 40:53Speaker 1: which brings me the Bad Boys Season two, which is
- 40:56Speaker 1: the hottest networking Towns network.
- 40:59Speaker 2: This is your baby, this is your creation.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Well no, it's not my creation. This is not Natalie
- 41:03Speaker 1: Nune's creation, and let me and the Zeus Networks. I'm
- 41:08Speaker 1: just happy to be able to be a producer on it,
- 41:10Speaker 1: to be a star on the show. With that being said,
- 41:13Speaker 1: I feel like this is a great opportunity because this
- 41:15Speaker 1: show is so huge. You know, it's in everyone's face
- 41:17Speaker 1: when it comes to our culture. So I feel like
- 41:19Speaker 1: they'll be able to have this opportunity to be on
- 41:20Speaker 1: the show. I'm excited to see. We just dropped the
- 41:23Speaker 1: trailer of the day, so I'm excited to see the
- 41:25Speaker 1: outcome from from this because it was it was definitely
- 41:29Speaker 1: an experience in the environment that I've never experienced before.
- 41:31Speaker 1: But I say to say that I'm still relevant after
- 41:34Speaker 1: I came back from tryinga I brought the I brought,
- 41:36Speaker 1: you know, I brought the money to the table. I
- 41:38Speaker 1: brought the trademark. I created the Millennium Tour that that
- 41:40Speaker 1: caused this nostalgic wave that took all these Millennium Tour one,
- 41:44Speaker 1: million Tour two. So I'm a part of that. So
- 41:46Speaker 1: I'm I don't want say, a puppet master, but I'm
- 41:48Speaker 1: in the back creating and cultivating and producing deals. That's
- 41:51Speaker 1: where I'm at now that I'm a modern day mogul.
- 41:53Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I'm an executive in this industry,
- 41:54Speaker 1: and I'm here to bring and give opportunities to those
- 41:57Speaker 1: because I understand what it's like to not have understand
- 41:59Speaker 1: what it's like to go through the drought. I understand,
- 42:01Speaker 1: you know what it's like to be brot play again.
- 42:03Speaker 3: Speaking speaking of all that, one of the things I
- 42:06Speaker 3: wanted to ask you is like, do you feel like
- 42:08Speaker 3: there's added pressure, added pressure to have money being that
- 42:14Speaker 3: you are a star?
- 42:16Speaker 1: I definitely think there's pressure.
- 42:18Speaker 3: I mean, you know, like as a star, you can't
- 42:20Speaker 3: You're like, I would never go to work at target right,
- 42:22Speaker 3: you would never go back. So, like, do you feel
- 42:24Speaker 3: a boy you put so much lotries people, way too
- 42:27Speaker 3: much lowries on that. But do you feel like there's
- 42:29Speaker 3: mad pressure on you to like maintain a certain level
- 42:32Speaker 3: of income or or to even stay relevant because I
- 42:37Speaker 3: even Nick.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Went through of course, hell yeah, hell yeah. Because some
- 42:45Speaker 1: people trying to say they don't care about what you
- 42:47Speaker 1: people think. But you know, people judge you based off
- 42:51Speaker 1: of how you took care of yourself, you know what
- 42:53Speaker 1: I'm saying, from your narrows to your hair to you know,
- 42:56Speaker 1: how you manage your money, how do you move and
- 42:57Speaker 1: stuff like that. You don't have to prove anything to anyone,
- 42:59Speaker 1: but you always want to be soliding your own shit,
- 43:02Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. And despite what people say,
- 43:05Speaker 1: people they may not say it, but they still they
- 43:08Speaker 1: kind of move a little interesting around you based off
- 43:11Speaker 1: of how they appear. Because you're pulling up in a
- 43:13Speaker 1: motherfucking of vented door, a five hundred thousand on a car,
- 43:16Speaker 1: and you got to not that you have to have this.
- 43:18Speaker 1: I'm that's saying. You know what I'm saying. There's a
- 43:19Speaker 1: lot of very wealthy people that I know that don't
- 43:22Speaker 1: do none of that stuff. Right to each his own.
- 43:26Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I think you need to
- 43:27Speaker 1: be wealthy and calm and holding your spirit and you
- 43:31Speaker 1: can move and walk through anything. Yeah.
- 43:34Speaker 3: Well, I've been in this game for quite some time,
- 43:37Speaker 3: and the people that continually pop up to stay relevant,
- 43:40Speaker 3: like Nick or yourself.
- 43:42Speaker 2: You guys work your asses off, you know what I'm saying.
- 43:45Speaker 3: And I always tell people like whenever I'm like, you know, uh,
- 43:49Speaker 3: I think I'm working hard, I'm like, ain't nobody working
- 43:51Speaker 3: hard as Nick Cannon?
- 43:52Speaker 2: Because that I remember people chaping up in the studio
- 43:55Speaker 2: being like, you know, you know, I just want this
- 43:57Speaker 2: from Nick, and I'll be like that has the ten
- 44:00Speaker 2: you guys are sitting in the studio smoking up, like
- 44:02Speaker 2: what are you talking about?
- 44:03Speaker 1: You know, it depends how you want it. Like for me,
- 44:05Speaker 1: I've been very like I want to be took that happened.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Took me sixteen years to put the crew back together. Yeah. Yeah,
- 44:10Speaker 1: like I said earlier, from secure the trademark, securing the money,
- 44:13Speaker 1: you know what I mean, I wanted to happen. I
- 44:15Speaker 1: willed it back together. Yeah, me, you know the things
- 44:18Speaker 1: that I felt that was tooken from me. This is life.
- 44:20Speaker 1: You gotta go take it for yourself. I went out
- 44:22Speaker 1: and just got it. Okay, cool, somebody did this to
- 44:25Speaker 1: me or they said this or that. Cool. Cool, take
- 44:27Speaker 1: the hits. So don't ever look at me as a victim.
- 44:29Speaker 1: I'm just saying this is me ten times down, staying
- 44:32Speaker 1: on my own journey. Fuck what niggas are talking about?
- 44:34Speaker 1: Guess what you really want to smoke? You can really
- 44:36Speaker 1: get it if you really really want it. But guess what,
- 44:38Speaker 1: You're really not worth it. So I'm gonna focus my
- 44:41Speaker 1: energy over here because you're a bitch ass nigga. Yeah,
- 44:43Speaker 1: that's why I feel deep down inside about energies that
- 44:46Speaker 1: are like but this is dreggonators. Any any negative, low
- 44:49Speaker 1: level frequency energy that is my high vibrational that is
- 44:52Speaker 1: allowed for me to manifest and create and continue to
- 44:54Speaker 1: travel with the earth.
- 44:55Speaker 3: What advice signing out? What advice would you give to
- 44:59Speaker 3: anybody that has made it dipped and they're currently in
- 45:04Speaker 3: their dipstate? You know, there's there's some people you know,
- 45:09Speaker 3: you know.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Be real with yourself, Be real with yourself. Transparency is
- 45:12Speaker 1: super key. Really really understand where you're at and be
- 45:18Speaker 1: honest with yourself. When you're honest with yourself, you can say, Okay,
- 45:20Speaker 1: this is where I'm fucked up at, this is where
- 45:22Speaker 1: I need to share this, this is where I need
- 45:23Speaker 1: to move this really, because you have to be able
- 45:25Speaker 1: to make adjustment. Yeah, yeah, don't live in like in.
- 45:30Speaker 2: The fantasy world of like.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Like I give an example, Like I give example, I've
- 45:34Speaker 1: been living. I make a lot of money because I
- 45:38Speaker 1: just know how to hustle, right, So I still maintained
- 45:41Speaker 1: and live the lifestyle I splurred. You can ask my girl,
- 45:43Speaker 1: I splurged and I live because I just know how
- 45:45Speaker 1: to make money. But imagine if I didn't splur so much, right,
- 45:49Speaker 1: Imagine if I, you know, maybe probably cut down on
- 45:52Speaker 1: certain way And imagine if you cut down on certain
- 45:56Speaker 1: areas and start applying certain things. You just got to
- 45:59Speaker 1: be real with yourself from where you want, where you
- 46:01Speaker 1: see yourself, because at the end of the day, you're
- 46:03Speaker 1: the master of your your own destiny. Right, So you're
- 46:05Speaker 1: gonna either build some dope ship or you're gonna fall
- 46:08Speaker 1: to the wayside. It depends how bad you want it.
- 46:09Speaker 1: So what are you willing to sacrifice for that? So
- 46:12Speaker 1: anyone out there that's been through. It's like, yo, nigga,
- 46:14Speaker 1: you've been, you've been, You've been around. What do you
- 46:16Speaker 1: what do you want to make out of it? So,
- 46:18Speaker 1: I mean I had to come to that sense with myself.
- 46:20Speaker 1: So and that's when I started making better decisions for
- 46:22Speaker 1: better financial situations, such.
- 46:24Speaker 2: A financial situations.
- 46:28Speaker 1: That's financial that situations. You have to make decisions, better
- 46:32Speaker 1: financial decisions, you know what I'm saying in regards to
- 46:35Speaker 1: as well as better friendships. You know, who's who can
- 46:38Speaker 1: you allow to be around you? Who can come to
- 46:41Speaker 1: your work environment? Who's going to help you this, Who's
- 46:43Speaker 1: gonna who's gonna hinder this? Like as much as I
- 46:45Speaker 1: love my brother, you just did an interview with Orlando
- 46:48Speaker 1: that I set up for you, but like, for example,
- 46:50Speaker 1: you know my brother. As much as I love my brother,
- 46:53Speaker 1: he's not the one that can be around my business.
- 46:56Speaker 1: This is my own blood, you Underseand I want to
- 46:59Speaker 1: tell you right, you can't have people around that's going
- 47:01Speaker 1: to do.
- 47:02Speaker 3: What drain you or be negative, damn your light, all
- 47:06Speaker 3: of the above, anything negative. After being rich and being broke,
- 47:14Speaker 3: are you afraid of ever being broke again?
- 47:17Speaker 1: Oh? I'm so afraid of being broke again.
- 47:19Speaker 2: I mean, I've read so many decisions like listen, but
- 47:21Speaker 2: your confidence is.
- 47:22Speaker 1: So I'm always making money like but no, but seriously,
- 47:25Speaker 1: it's better to have that cushion and that's ability, so
- 47:29Speaker 1: when the famine does come, you can see you can
- 47:34Speaker 1: coast a little bit.
- 47:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:36Speaker 1: I literally just bought some glasses for a photo shoot.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Spent about nine hundred and ninety five hours on these glasses,
- 47:42Speaker 1: and took them holes back the next day.
- 47:44Speaker 2: Amen, you know what I'm saying.
- 47:46Speaker 1: I found my other iPad, my iPods that I was
- 47:49Speaker 1: looking for. I couldn't find the ones I just bought.

- 48:29Speaker 1: for me, it was something different. But through my you know,
- 48:32Speaker 1: my mental strengthness and my anger management skills, I was
