- 2:00Speaker 3: Of course, there's Jute Security Systems and we'll talk to
- 2:02Speaker 3: Josh Bean from there about that and State Democratic Party
- 2:06Speaker 3: chair and delegate Mike Pushkin will be stopping by as well.
- 2:08Speaker 3: So a lot to get to this morning. I want
- 2:10Speaker 3: to start off though, with the news room. Jeff Jenkins
- 2:11Speaker 3: is with us. Jeff, good morning. We had a report
- 2:14Speaker 3: yesterday of a pretty horrific potential because still an investigation
- 2:20Speaker 3: child abuse case in Charleston. Talk about him.
- 2:22Speaker 5: Yeah, So, a young child showed up on the porch
- 2:25Speaker 5: of a neighbor in the Bridge Road area and had
- 2:28Speaker 5: been handcuffed. Was handcuffed and said that The child said
- 2:33Speaker 5: that they had been like that for about twenty four
- 2:34Speaker 5: hours and had gone to a neighbor's house. Neighbors called police.
- 2:38Speaker 5: Police came and they ended up arresting a woman identified
- 2:42Speaker 5: as Laura Southworth, and she was arrested on a child
- 2:47Speaker 5: abuse and illegal restraint charge. And so if you take
- 2:53Speaker 5: a closer look at some of the allegations here, the
- 2:56Speaker 5: child said that she was being punished for had for
- 3:03Speaker 5: about twenty four hours. She had been punished, and then
- 3:06Speaker 5: Southworth told police, I guess there's some other kids in
- 3:10Speaker 5: the house and there's some dispute there and about taking
- 3:12Speaker 5: their food or some different things, and she couldn't control
- 3:16Speaker 5: the child, and so that's why, that's why she put
- 3:20Speaker 5: her in handcuffs. So she is At last check, she
- 3:26Speaker 5: was in jail in about a ten thousand dollars bond.
- 3:28Speaker 5: But police start continuing their investigation, and I'm sure Child
- 3:31Speaker 5: Protective Services obviously was involved after that. So yeah, but
- 3:36Speaker 5: it all started with the neighbor and some neighbors. Some
- 3:39Speaker 5: other neighbors had said they didn't know much about it
- 3:42Speaker 5: or didn't know the family had kept to itself.
- 3:44Speaker 3: And yeah, I saw one report on television last night
- 3:46Speaker 3: where they were doing one of the neighbors said that
- 3:48Speaker 3: they didn't even know that they had kids in the house. Yeah,
- 3:50Speaker 3: which I mean, that's I mean, if you got kids
- 3:53Speaker 3: in the house, you see them in the neighborhood or whatever.
- 3:55Speaker 3: The neighbors had no idea, at least some of them
- 3:57Speaker 3: did that they even had kids in the house.
- 3:58Speaker 5: So there might be more coming on this, you don't
- 4:01Speaker 5: probably know, but no, police are investigating, and they and
- 4:05Speaker 5: the charges came ox pretty quickly once they you know,
- 4:10Speaker 5: once they talked to the woman and and you know,
- 4:13Speaker 5: they found the child in different things.
- 4:14Speaker 3: So all right, that's where it is, Jeff. I appreciate you.
- 4:17Speaker 3: We'll be following the story of course, all day on
- 4:19Speaker 3: air and online as well. I appreciate you being here, man,
- 4:21Speaker 3: Thanks a lot. See never easy to report on stories
- 4:23Speaker 3: like that, but our team always does a great job. Jeff,
- 4:25Speaker 3: I appreciate it. Phone calls of a Dave Allen show,
- 4:28Speaker 3: the service of Big Lee, Piggy Wigglely on Spring Street,
- 4:30Speaker 3: and Charleston texting services provided by West Virginia's finest men's store,
- 4:34Speaker 3: Tony the Taylor Virginia Street and Charleston Visit Bestmaster Taylor
- 4:37Speaker 3: dot Com. Well to welcome in Josh Beam, our good
- 4:39Speaker 3: friend from Jute find sponsors of the show. Josh, good morning,
- 4:41Speaker 3: how are you man? Good morning, good to be here.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. It's kind of hard to
- 4:44Speaker 3: follow up that story, but we had We had to
- 4:47Speaker 3: get Jeff and nearer to talk about that, Josh. For
- 4:50Speaker 3: those who have not heard you on the show in
- 4:52Speaker 3: the past. Of course, Jute, as I said, j O
- 4:54Speaker 3: O t a fine sponsored to the show. Let's talk
- 4:56Speaker 3: about the different services offered by Jude.
- 4:58Speaker 6: So we have any home security, automation, business security and
- 5:02Speaker 6: automation needs that you would want. So we secure any
- 5:06Speaker 6: type of a location and we do different smart home
- 5:10Speaker 6: things like that as.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Well, and for people who are listening right now that
- 5:13Speaker 3: are saying, well, you know, I thought about getting a
- 5:16Speaker 3: security system for my home or for my business, but
- 5:19Speaker 3: it's it's just let's focus on residential. Okay, it's just
- 5:22Speaker 3: too complicated, I'll never be able to operate this, or
- 5:25Speaker 3: it's just too expensive. What do you say to that?
- 5:27Speaker 6: So there's a very wide range on different packages that
- 5:31Speaker 6: we can offer. So the biggest thing that I always
- 5:34Speaker 6: talk about on here and always tell the customer is
- 5:36Speaker 6: I come in and completely listen to you. So I'm
- 5:38Speaker 6: not a pressure salesman that comes in and tries to
- 5:40Speaker 6: sell you something you don't want or you don't need.
- 5:42Speaker 6: I completely listen to you. It's your home and you
- 5:44Speaker 6: know it best. So I come in and we just
- 5:47Speaker 6: talk about what you can do. And what I always
- 5:49Speaker 6: say ultimately also is that when I give you a quote,
- 5:52Speaker 6: you can take off whatever you want, whatever you don't
- 5:54Speaker 6: feel comfortable, don't feel like you need, whatever you know.
- 5:57Speaker 6: It's it's completely a movable quote there, not locked in anything.
- 6:01Speaker 3: So basically you give them a computer handout or whatever,
- 6:04Speaker 3: a sheet of paper and it's got the things on it.
- 6:06Speaker 3: And they look at it and they say, well, you know,
- 6:08Speaker 3: I'm kind of watching my dollars and cents here, so
- 6:11Speaker 3: maybe I don't want to go this route. I want
- 6:13Speaker 3: to go a little bit less. And you can kind
- 6:14Speaker 3: of customate it for the individual. It's not not just
- 6:16Speaker 3: one price. And what are some of those options that
- 6:18Speaker 3: people have? If I call you and I want a
- 6:20Speaker 3: security system put in my home, what are some of
- 6:22Speaker 3: the options that people will be choosing from.
- 6:24Speaker 6: So we have different things like having a glass break sensor.
- 6:28Speaker 6: If any of your windows are broken, it's going to
- 6:30Speaker 6: detect that frequency and alert the police.
- 6:33Speaker 3: You know.
- 6:34Speaker 6: Sometimes some people say I don't need that many in
- 6:36Speaker 6: the house. If I have three or four in the
- 6:38Speaker 6: quote whatever, We'll take it down to a couple less,
- 6:41Speaker 6: couple of motion sensors. You can take that down, door sensors,
- 6:45Speaker 6: things like that as well. It's your standard security.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Right and so you can kind of piece meal as
- 6:49Speaker 3: to what it is that you want. And you offer
- 6:51Speaker 3: this for both residential and commercial. What can you do
- 6:53Speaker 3: for commercial businesses? What's the most common things that you
- 6:56Speaker 3: do there?
- 6:56Speaker 6: So one of the most exciting things that we have
- 6:58Speaker 6: with that is we we partner with alarm dot Com,
- 7:01Speaker 6: so the largest national provider of security services. And one
- 7:05Speaker 6: of the great things that they have is business analytics,
- 7:08Speaker 6: so you can detect through your cameras set up. You
- 7:11Speaker 6: can have different hot spots in the in the area.
- 7:14Speaker 6: If you have like a retail store, you can see
- 7:15Speaker 6: where people are going to the most. You can see
- 7:18Speaker 6: if you have like a coffee shop type setting, you
- 7:20Speaker 6: can see how long a customer has been in there,
- 7:22Speaker 6: how many cups of coffee they've gone up and got.
- 7:25Speaker 6: You can see the productivity of your workers in the
- 7:29Speaker 6: back there, how how many copy cups of coffee they're making.
- 7:31Speaker 6: Things like that, So it's it's it's crazy how detail
- 7:36Speaker 6: they can get with the business.
- 7:37Speaker 3: And of course talk about the about the technology. You know,
- 7:40Speaker 3: back in the day, security systems were these big, bulky
- 7:43Speaker 3: cameras with a ton of equipment and the best you
- 7:46Speaker 3: could get out of it was some sort of a
- 7:47Speaker 3: grainy video or something like that. How is the techno?
- 7:50Speaker 3: What's the technology? You don't remember those days, but but
- 7:52Speaker 3: but I'm sure you hear the state. What are the
- 7:55Speaker 3: talk about the technology and how far it's come over
- 7:57Speaker 3: the years.
- 7:57Speaker 6: Yes, I mean all of our camera setups a very
- 8:00Speaker 6: very discreet now, so picture quality is phenomenal. One of
- 8:03Speaker 6: the great things about the different business analytics and different
- 8:07Speaker 6: things that they have with the video setup is it's
- 8:10Speaker 6: not like you're you're fast forwarding through just hours and
- 8:13Speaker 6: hours of tape trying to find the situation that happened.
- 8:16Speaker 6: You have different alerts that will set up when it's
- 8:19Speaker 6: detecting motion, whenever it's detecting people vehicles, you can search
- 8:23Speaker 6: for keywords, and there you can search for different people
- 8:27Speaker 6: that you're trying to find. So you can get it
- 8:29Speaker 6: very very specific.
- 8:30Speaker 3: When you're going back and you have to sit down
- 8:32Speaker 3: with people sometimes that are a little less tech savvy,
- 8:34Speaker 3: maybe older people or you know me, You have to
- 8:37Speaker 3: sit down with them and you have to explain to
- 8:39Speaker 3: them exactly how this works. So, I mean, you take
- 8:42Speaker 3: them step by step josh on how this works. Yeah.
- 8:44Speaker 6: So I was talking with a customer yesterday. I was
- 8:46Speaker 6: doing a quote for him and he's been with some
- 8:48Speaker 6: other companies and wanted to get a quip from us,
- 8:51Speaker 6: and he said, one of the biggest things is these
- 8:53Speaker 6: other companies are losing business from them because they just
- 8:55Speaker 6: won't return his calls. They won't come out and see them,
- 8:57Speaker 6: and that is the opposite of our business model on
- 9:00Speaker 6: what I want to do with it. So you know,
- 9:02Speaker 6: we are a locally owned and operated business out of
- 9:05Speaker 6: the Hurricane area and go all over the state. I'm
- 9:09Speaker 6: a textra phone call away at any time. You have
- 9:11Speaker 6: my personal number. When I work with you and I
- 9:14Speaker 6: want to be a partner with you, you know, I'll
- 9:16Speaker 6: come out. I've gone to a business in Charles and
- 9:19Speaker 6: I've gone to you know, five or six times in
- 9:21Speaker 6: the last month just because they didn't understand the set
- 9:23Speaker 6: up and I'm really trying to help them figure that out.
- 9:25Speaker 3: So and if somebody has multiple locations, I mean, will
- 9:29Speaker 3: you work with them on the price on that? They say, Look,
- 9:30Speaker 3: I'm going to sign you up through you know, Dave
- 9:32Speaker 3: Allen Industries or whatever. And I've got five or six locations.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Can you cut me a break if I do more?
- 9:38Speaker 3: I mean, break's not the right word. But are you
- 9:39Speaker 3: willing to work with them obsolutely? Yeah?
- 9:41Speaker 6: I mean, we definitely try to figure it out with
- 9:43Speaker 6: you see what works best for you. The other great
- 9:45Speaker 6: thing with working with Alarm dot Com and the app
- 9:48Speaker 6: that they offer is you can have business enterprise management.
- 9:52Speaker 6: So you have, so you have five locations, then you
- 9:54Speaker 6: can have your main app and you can click into
- 9:58Speaker 6: each of those locations through the same app. It's not
- 10:00Speaker 6: like you're scrolling through all kinds of different things, remembering
- 10:03Speaker 6: all these different logins. It's all one centralized thing. You
- 10:05Speaker 6: can have video, security, automation all connected in.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Through that, and I think the important thing is to remember.
- 10:11Speaker 3: And you just kind of touched on this, Josh is
- 10:13Speaker 3: you don't just set up the equipment and go. You're
- 10:16Speaker 3: there to answer quiz. You said to one business you'd
- 10:18Speaker 3: been back about four or five times to explain different
- 10:20Speaker 3: different things to them. And of course the systems come
- 10:22Speaker 3: with all the warranties and all that other stuff as well.
- 10:25Speaker 3: As we get closer now into the Christmas season. I
- 10:30Speaker 3: know it's just September. I don't want to rush it
- 10:32Speaker 3: because I think I think your local Walmart has Easter
- 10:34Speaker 3: decorations up now. But as we get closer to the
- 10:37Speaker 3: Christmas season, if you're looking for a gift for somebody,
- 10:39Speaker 3: this might be a great gift for someone like maybe
- 10:41Speaker 3: an older parent or something that the kids could get
- 10:43Speaker 3: involved with and go together and get a security system. Absolutely,
- 10:46Speaker 3: I mean so I mean, do you see that sort
- 10:48Speaker 3: of thing. That sort of thing happened from time to time.
- 10:51Speaker 6: Last year we definitely saw some of that, just different
- 10:53Speaker 6: camera setups. People that have been wanting to do something
- 10:57Speaker 6: and did that. Yeah, I mean it worked out right well.
- 11:00Speaker 3: All right, So where can people get ahold of you?
- 11:01Speaker 7: Josh?
- 11:02Speaker 6: You can get ahold of us at six eight one,
- 11:04Speaker 6: two three, three four thousand or protected by jute dot com.
- 11:08Speaker 3: And then the name is Jute Joot. I try to
- 11:11Speaker 3: explain that to everybody when I when I read your sponsorship, Tagger,
- 11:14Speaker 3: it's Joot. And for those people who may not know
- 11:17Speaker 3: the story of where the name Jute comes from, you
- 11:19Speaker 3: want to tell them again.
- 11:20Speaker 6: It's a very interesting story. So I have two owners
- 11:24Speaker 6: and their names are James and Thor, and they connected
- 11:27Speaker 6: their name and said the double O is catchy and
- 11:30Speaker 6: easy to remember, like Google and other companies like that.
- 11:33Speaker 6: So a lot of thought went into.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Well, those guys, I mean, with those guys with Thor
- 11:37Speaker 3: and James, there's always a lot of thought goes into everything,
- 11:39Speaker 3: mainly lunch where they're getting unch that day. All right, Josh,
- 11:42Speaker 3: I appreciate you being here man. Thanks a lot absolutely

- 15:35Speaker 3: Doing fine, manod Fin. I'm hanging in there. Yeah, good old.
- 15:38Speaker 7: Guy, the same. I'm right there with you.
- 15:40Speaker 3: No, you're not October West Is this Saturday on the
- 15:44Speaker 3: West Side? You do know it's not October.
- 15:46Speaker 7: Right, listen, that's the I hear that so much. And
- 15:49Speaker 7: actually I'm glad you brought that up because we had
- 15:51Speaker 7: to clarify, so we actually try to mirror the actual
- 15:54Speaker 7: Octoberfest celebration in Germany that starts in the last two
- 15:58Speaker 7: weeks of September. So that's why it's at the end
- 16:00Speaker 7: of Septem.
- 16:00Speaker 3: I got you, I get kick off the Fall. I'm
- 16:02Speaker 3: not the only one that's brought that up right in September.
- 16:05Speaker 7: It's always been in September.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Okay, okay, Well see I didn't realize that. So so
- 16:09Speaker 3: what all you got going on? This thing?
- 16:11Speaker 7: Along with Foam with the Dome, which happened back in June,
- 16:13Speaker 7: this is our other big fundraiser that we hold every
- 16:15Speaker 7: year here at Charleston Urban Works. And you know the
- 16:19Speaker 7: purpose of this fundraiser is to draw really positive attention
- 16:22Speaker 7: to our urban business districts, to create that sort of
- 16:25Speaker 7: residual effect to remind people to come back and shop
- 16:27Speaker 7: and eat in these districts. It's a fundraiser for our
- 16:30Speaker 7: organization obviously, and it gets the cast registers ringing. So
- 16:33Speaker 7: you know, this has been going on now, it's in
- 16:35Speaker 7: its fifteenth year. We're celebrating fifteen years of October West.
- 16:38Speaker 7: And really it comes down to beer, food and music. Right,
- 16:40Speaker 7: So we have over one hundred and thirty that's right, right,
- 16:44Speaker 7: I mean, that's what else do we do? But no,
- 16:47Speaker 7: we have over one hundred and thirty beers on tap
- 16:49Speaker 7: this year. We have more food vendors we've ever had.
- 16:51Speaker 7: We have twelve food vendors this year, which is great.
- 16:53Speaker 7: And then we have two stages, our City National Bank Stages,
- 16:57Speaker 7: the West Stage. Well, the main stage will have two
- 17:00Speaker 7: two co headliners. We'll have Mark Davis a Final Village
- 17:03Speaker 7: spinning from three to five thirty, and then Andrew Scocchi
- 17:07Speaker 7: he's coming down from the North. He'll be him in
- 17:09Speaker 7: his band will be playing from five thirty to seven
- 17:11Speaker 7: on the main stage. And then on the East Stage,
- 17:13Speaker 7: which is right near the October West Games, which I'll
- 17:15Speaker 7: get into in a second. That's DJ Courtz and she'll
- 17:18Speaker 7: be spending the entire time right around the October West Games,
- 17:22Speaker 7: which this year they're going to be bigger than better,
- 17:24Speaker 7: bigger and better than ever. We have yodeling contest, sausage toss,
- 17:28Speaker 7: keg rolling, sausage eating contest apparently we're doing this year.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Matt Murphy is producing the show today. Matt Murphy, as
- 17:36Speaker 3: soon as you said sausage eating and keg rolling, he's like, oh,
- 17:39Speaker 3: I may have to come down to.
- 17:40Speaker 7: That, but yeah, a few other games. The addition where
- 17:45Speaker 7: we're at, what we're adding this year is we're doing
- 17:47Speaker 7: the October West. We're calling it Trivial prost Suit. It's
- 17:50Speaker 7: a trivia to an event long trivia game. We give
- 17:53Speaker 7: you a QR CO when you first get in, you
- 17:55Speaker 7: scan it. You can play trivia on your phone the
- 17:57Speaker 7: entire duration of the event, and the top winners will
- 17:59Speaker 7: get some really cool prize. Is so that all will
- 18:01Speaker 7: be going on during the event. Five o'clock is when
- 18:04Speaker 7: the October West Game start. As far as the admission
- 18:06Speaker 7: goes VIP Early Hour this year, something we've added new
- 18:10Speaker 7: that goes from three pm to four pm. You get
- 18:12Speaker 7: an extra hour as a VIP ticket holder, which is
- 18:15Speaker 7: fifty five dollars. You also get access to the VIP
- 18:17Speaker 7: beer tent in the middle right there in the middle
- 18:20Speaker 7: of the event. Of course, general emission is four to
- 18:22Speaker 7: seven and that last until the end of the event,
- 18:25Speaker 7: which is at seven o'clock.
- 18:26Speaker 3: So where do people get tickets?
- 18:28Speaker 7: You go to Charlestonurbanworks dot org. You can also find
- 18:31Speaker 7: out all the information on the October West twenty twenty
- 18:34Speaker 7: four Facebook page. We have I think over twenty three
- 18:36Speaker 7: hundred people that have already liked that page and are
- 18:38Speaker 7: following it. All the different information regarding our sponsors, the entertainment,
- 18:42Speaker 7: the beer, the food, everything is listed on both the
- 18:44Speaker 7: Facebook page and the website, and you can buy tickets
- 18:47Speaker 7: right there. It takes you right to the page.
- 18:48Speaker 3: I'll say what we'll do right now, how about we
- 18:51Speaker 3: give away a pair. Let's do it. I say what
- 18:53Speaker 3: we'll do. We'll be if you're calling number five right now,
- 18:55Speaker 3: you can call us up at three zero four three
- 18:57Speaker 3: four five fifty eight fifty eight three zero four, three
- 19:00Speaker 3: four five fifty eight fifty eight. Call on number five
- 19:02Speaker 3: right now. I am going to hook you up with
- 19:04Speaker 3: a pair of free ticket. I'm not gonna do it.
- 19:06Speaker 3: Rick Cavner is gonna hook up with a pair of
- 19:08Speaker 3: free admission tickets to get into October West. It's this
- 19:10Speaker 3: Saturday over in the Oak City district west side of Charleston.
- 19:14Speaker 3: That's a great value. It is a caller five right now.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Matt Murphy is standing by three zero four three four
- 19:19Speaker 3: five fifty eight fifty eight three zero four three four
- 19:22Speaker 3: five fifty eight fifty eight. Caller five right now, we'll
- 19:24Speaker 3: hook up with a pair of free passes to October West.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Happening this rock October West this Saturday on the Oak
- 19:32Speaker 3: City area of Charleston. Talk about specifically Rick, Where are
- 19:36Speaker 3: things set up?
- 19:37Speaker 10: The event is?
- 19:38Speaker 7: It spans from Pennsylvania Avenue right when you enter into
- 19:41Speaker 7: Elk City, So Pennsylvania Avenue all the way down to
- 19:44Speaker 7: Crescent Road, which is passed the Charleston Nano Brewery if
- 19:47Speaker 7: you're familiar with that. Where that is. So it's it's
- 19:49Speaker 7: a huge length of Washington Street West and there'll be
- 19:52Speaker 7: some stuff going on, some food vendors on big Ley Avenue.
- 19:55Speaker 7: The VIP Tent, the VIP Beer Tent will be right
- 19:57Speaker 7: there on Tennessee. The stage set up right on Washington
- 20:01Speaker 7: Street West facing down toward Pennsylvania the main stage, so
- 20:03Speaker 7: it's the entire almost length of the Oak City District,
- 20:05Speaker 7: at least on Washington Street.
- 20:07Speaker 3: It's a pretty big deal. And I've seen when I
- 20:09Speaker 3: drive into the morning, you've got signs out. You don't specifically,
- 20:11Speaker 3: but there's signs out on the interstatement say that the
- 20:13Speaker 3: street's going to be closed.
- 20:15Speaker 7: And they already got it up, which is good because
- 20:17Speaker 7: we've got to reroute traffic.
- 20:19Speaker 3: I want to say congratulations to Dave Runyon from Hurricane
- 20:21Speaker 3: Another day from Hurricane it was our winner. Gratulations, So
- 20:25Speaker 3: Dave Runyon of Hurricane is our winter. He's won himself
- 20:28Speaker 3: a couple of free passes to October West, which is
- 20:30Speaker 3: happening this coming u Saturday in the Oak City District
- 20:34Speaker 3: of Charleston. I'm sorry, Mike Runyon. Is it Mike or
- 20:36Speaker 3: is a Dave? It's Mike.
- 20:37Speaker 7: Sorry, Oh ohoops, congratulations Mike.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Well he's new, our producers new. I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Murphy's been here for a long time. I think this
- 20:44Speaker 3: maybe the first time he's ever produced my show. But
- 20:46Speaker 3: uh so, not a day from Hurricane he changed it
- 20:49Speaker 3: because it's I actually wonder he changes what looks so obvious,
- 20:55Speaker 3: Mike Murphy of Hurricane is our winter. So Mike, we
- 20:58Speaker 3: appreciate you. We get your tickets here at the station,
- 21:00Speaker 3: and I'm sure, mister the other I'm sure, mister Murphy,
- 21:03Speaker 3: your producer told you all about how to get your tickets,
- 21:05Speaker 3: all right. And I do want to say side note here, Rick,
- 21:07Speaker 3: that our stations are going to be a big part
- 21:09Speaker 3: of this word the official media sponsor. I'm going to
- 21:12Speaker 3: be down there on Saturday afternoon representing our sister station
- 21:15Speaker 3: ninety eighty seven, a mountain wild and wonderful classic rock.
- 21:17Speaker 3: So I'm definitely looking forward to it, having some food
- 21:20Speaker 3: and drinking that spend some time on the stage as well.
- 21:22Speaker 7: Yeah, Yeah, we're looking forward to having all you all
- 21:24Speaker 7: during phone that worked out so well, having you guys
- 21:26Speaker 7: all on stage and having that presence there with all
- 21:28Speaker 7: your tents set up and folks coming over and hanging
- 21:30Speaker 7: out and talking to you guys and getting information. So
- 21:33Speaker 7: we're really really thankful for your as partnership.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Now, how many different kinds of beer? Did I?
- 21:37Speaker 13: Over?
- 21:37Speaker 7: One hundred and thirty beers will be on tap of
- 21:39Speaker 7: the one hundred and thirty If you look at the list,
- 21:41Speaker 7: I believe only five are domestic, like your bud Lights,
- 21:43Speaker 7: your Meddler last year, michelubs, everything else. There's a lot
- 21:46Speaker 7: of like German style bills, beers, a lot of like
- 21:50Speaker 7: fall so like pumpkin and like stouts and that kind
- 21:54Speaker 7: of thing. It's a really good variety and a lot
- 21:56Speaker 7: of it is stuff that you you haven't heard of,
- 21:58Speaker 7: a lot of stuff that isn't around here. But there's
- 22:00Speaker 7: also some of those favorites, like the Big Timbers, all
- 22:02Speaker 7: the West Virginia places, a lot of the West Virginia
- 22:04Speaker 7: beers are represented as well.
- 22:05Speaker 3: And that's one of the things I like about this
- 22:07Speaker 3: savand and you also mentioned foone at the Dome that
- 22:09Speaker 3: Charleston Urban Works does is that you give these companies,
- 22:12Speaker 3: these West Virginia based companies, an opportunity to be a
- 22:14Speaker 3: part of it. Whether it's the beer, the food trucks
- 22:16Speaker 3: or whatever, there's something in it from them as well.
- 22:18Speaker 7: Our mission dave at the very core, and we're talking
- 22:20Speaker 7: even our our board policies. Whenever we purchase things for
- 22:23Speaker 7: these events, like when we go out to our vendors,
- 22:25Speaker 7: we have a bilocal policy like we make sure to
- 22:27Speaker 7: reach out to the local vendors first before we have
- 22:29Speaker 7: to venture out possibly not local, and we do that
- 22:31Speaker 7: with our events as well. We always want to shine
- 22:33Speaker 7: that direct spotlight in on onto these folks that are
- 22:36Speaker 7: making West Virginia and Charleston the place it is now.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Weather Wise, you can't do anything about the weather. But
- 22:42Speaker 3: it looks like, Chris, we've got some rain, which is
- 22:44Speaker 3: much needed the middle part of this week, and what
- 22:46Speaker 3: I'm hearing Friday night high school football could be a
- 22:49Speaker 3: little messy, but from what I saw in it again
- 22:51Speaker 3: with the weather, Rick, you know, things could change by Saturday.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Things look like through a drivable event.
- 22:56Speaker 7: I've been watching very close all week and it's looking
- 22:59Speaker 7: like everything thing is going to ease up very early
- 23:01Speaker 7: in the morning on Saturday, which will actually be perfect
- 23:03Speaker 7: because it'll cool things down a little bit. And if
- 23:06Speaker 7: it's anything like last year, we may just have perfect
- 23:08Speaker 7: weather once again, the perfect amount of sunshine, whether or
- 23:12Speaker 7: not too hot. It could be really great. So go
- 23:14Speaker 7: ahead and buy your tickets now. We have full faith
- 23:16Speaker 7: there will be no rain on Saturday. Don't worry about
- 23:19Speaker 7: that is there.
- 23:20Speaker 3: I know you're in an outdoor event, Rick, but is
- 23:22Speaker 3: it possible that this event could sell out.
- 23:24Speaker 7: I mean, you have some of the dome did sell out.
- 23:27Speaker 7: We would like to see this sell out. We have
- 23:29Speaker 7: a little bit of a higher cap for this than
- 23:31Speaker 7: we did Fione with the dome, so we hope to
- 23:33Speaker 7: see it sell out. We'll just never know. I mean
- 23:34Speaker 7: a lot of folks buy their tickets on site, like
- 23:36Speaker 7: at the gate. We do recommend you buy them ahead
- 23:39Speaker 7: of time because you never know. VIP is more limited
- 23:41Speaker 7: than general admission.
- 23:42Speaker 3: How many VIP have We.
- 23:44Speaker 7: Only allow for the first six hundred people to be VIP,
- 23:48Speaker 7: and so I think we're already up to like three
- 23:51Speaker 7: fifty or four at this point. So I would I
- 23:54Speaker 7: would act pretty quickly and go ahead and get those tickets. Now,
- 23:56Speaker 7: if you're on the VIP treatment.
- 23:57Speaker 3: And let's talk about the work of Charleston Urban Works,
- 24:00Speaker 3: like your mission. I mean, because of course you put
- 24:02Speaker 3: on this big event, you know, foone with the Dome
- 24:03Speaker 3: and October West, But that's just the event that the
- 24:07Speaker 3: money raisers, That's right, the fundraisers. What are you doing
- 24:09Speaker 3: in the other months? What exactly is a mission statement,
- 24:11Speaker 3: if you will, of Charleston Urban Work.
- 24:13Speaker 7: So again, we really just solely focus on urban economic
- 24:16Speaker 7: and community development in these neighborhood business districts. So for
- 24:20Speaker 7: for the most part right now, the west side and
- 24:22Speaker 7: the east end of Charleston, right and so our goal
- 24:24Speaker 7: is really in four different categories. We have our public
- 24:27Speaker 7: space enhancement work, so that's our west Side gate way
- 24:29Speaker 7: lighting initiative that we're working right in the middle of
- 24:31Speaker 7: right now that we've talked about on the air before.
- 24:33Speaker 7: That's public art projects like the most of the murals
- 24:36Speaker 7: that you see that are up on the buildings we've
- 24:37Speaker 7: helped commission or been involved in some way, crosswalk enhancements,
- 24:41Speaker 7: recycling receptacles, you know. The list really goes on our
- 24:44Speaker 7: facade grant program. We have a full program dedicated to
- 24:47Speaker 7: providing funding to local property and business owners who are
- 24:50Speaker 7: looking to spruce up there outside, whether that's brick, pointing, windows, doors, signage,
- 24:54Speaker 7: we have grant money available for them. We also have
- 24:57Speaker 7: bilocal and shop local initiatives. Are Charleston Passport car or
- 25:00Speaker 7: excuse me, our Charles Overworks passport card. It's a MasterCard
- 25:03Speaker 7: debit card you can get through Element Federal Credit Union.
- 25:05Speaker 7: You sign up for it. Every time you swipe it,
- 25:07Speaker 7: you get two percent cash back If you shop in
- 25:08Speaker 7: our districts and you eat in our districts. So those
- 25:11Speaker 7: are really the program that's the programming that we offer
- 25:13Speaker 7: right now as we've restructured and rebranding, as we've talked
- 25:16Speaker 7: about recently. We're still working on some other really exciting stuff,
- 25:19Speaker 7: but right now that's what we've been focused on, and
- 25:21Speaker 7: that's just to make sure folks are thinking about our
- 25:23Speaker 7: businesses first whenever they look to go, you know, eat out,
- 25:26Speaker 7: or to go get a beer or shop for their
- 25:30Speaker 7: clothing or whatever. So that's that's one of our main goals.
- 25:33Speaker 3: But Dave Alan Chowing five Aye line brought to you
- 25:34Speaker 3: part by Bridge Value. If you're interested in proving your
- 25:36Speaker 3: company's IT workforce, know that they offer custom tailored IT

- 25:50Speaker 3: One of the well here's a text for you. Why
- 25:54Speaker 3: only three hours.
- 25:55Speaker 7: It's four hours, it's three seven, three to seven. We
- 25:58Speaker 7: did change the hours. I'm glad. Someone asked that we
- 26:00Speaker 7: changed the hours for a couple of key reasons.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Now.
- 26:02Speaker 7: Of course, for this particular year, there's the Sierra Faro
- 26:05Speaker 7: concerts at the Clay Center Saturday night, and we know
- 26:08Speaker 7: there's a lot of crossover there with the folks who
- 26:09Speaker 7: go to our event and people who want to see
- 26:11Speaker 7: Sierra Faraoh at Clay Center. We want folks to be
- 26:13Speaker 7: able to go to both.
- 26:15Speaker 4: But just as.
- 26:16Speaker 7: Importantly, you know, we want to make sure that when
- 26:19Speaker 7: folks are leaving our event that they have enough time
- 26:21Speaker 7: to go out and patronize all the local businesses they can.
- 26:24Speaker 7: We want them to go and get if they haven't
- 26:25Speaker 7: already eaten in one of our food vendors, which are
- 26:27Speaker 7: that's probably happening earlier in the day. We want them
- 26:29Speaker 7: to go out and get dinner at the several local
- 26:31Speaker 7: restaurant options. We want them to go out and grab
- 26:33Speaker 7: a beer at at their favorite watering hole with their brewery.
- 26:36Speaker 7: We want to give people more time to do that
- 26:37Speaker 7: because it's a captive audience date. We have people coming
- 26:39Speaker 7: in from in some instances. In some years, sixteen different
- 26:42Speaker 7: states have been to our events, I mean all the
- 26:45Speaker 7: surrounding counties. We have attendees coming from several counties in
- 26:47Speaker 7: West Virginia. It's their opportunity to see the best Charleston
- 26:50Speaker 7: has to offer. And if they're there tow nine o'clock,
- 26:52Speaker 7: they're not going to have as many options. So we
- 26:54Speaker 7: did move hours back a little bit. And honestly, like
- 26:57Speaker 7: you know, I mean, folks, after it gets dark at
- 27:00Speaker 7: a at a beer festival, you know, it gets, it
- 27:01Speaker 7: gets it gets a little rowdy, and so I think if.
- 27:04Speaker 3: We can that's why we got Murphy there. Matt Murphy's
- 27:06Speaker 3: gonna be there a good deal.
- 27:08Speaker 7: No, no, I mean, and everybody's everybody's fine, And we
- 27:10Speaker 7: have Charleston Police there and there we have security. They
- 27:13Speaker 7: all do a great job of keeping things.
- 27:14Speaker 3: Never been an issue.
- 27:15Speaker 7: There never been an issue ever. But you know, the
- 27:18Speaker 7: earlier that we can expose folks to our great city
- 27:21Speaker 7: and get them out shopping and even locally, we want
- 27:23Speaker 7: to do that.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Talk about before we let you go, talk about some
- 27:25Speaker 3: of the businesses that are in in the on the
- 27:28Speaker 3: West End that you've been working with and some of
- 27:30Speaker 3: the things you're excited about business wise on the West
- 27:32Speaker 3: end of Charles.
- 27:33Speaker 7: Yeah, so of course he know Sergio's Restaurant, the Italian
- 27:35Speaker 7: restaurant just opened. It was the old Books and Bruce
- 27:37Speaker 7: location there and he's doing great. He'll be open during October.
- 27:40Speaker 7: West Charleston Nano Brewery. They're doing great over there. They've
- 27:44Speaker 7: done it. They have a really good operation there. They'll
- 27:46Speaker 7: be open as well. Green Infusion is there. Elk City Records,
- 27:51Speaker 7: Elk City Cycles, Kinshift Goods just celebrated their ten year anniversary.
- 27:54Speaker 7: They had their big event this past Saturday where they
- 27:56Speaker 7: were celebrating ten years with their brick and mortar being open.
- 27:59Speaker 7: And they're at there on Tennessee Avenue. Vendelia Company. Really
- 28:04Speaker 7: great restaurant and a shop that's opened up there on
- 28:07Speaker 7: Tennessee right beside right there beside Kinship and she's done
- 28:10Speaker 7: a great job over there, delicious offerings there. They'll be
- 28:15Speaker 7: open for a while, I believe during the event. And
- 28:18Speaker 7: the Grill I think you probably saw the Grill as
- 28:20Speaker 7: onder new ownership and during that in that transition process.
- 28:23Speaker 7: Very historic business there on our west side. Winter Floral
- 28:26Speaker 7: that they'll be open during the event. They've been in
- 28:28Speaker 7: business for decades now. Really the list goes on and on.
- 28:31Speaker 7: We have, you know, we have faced the world in
- 28:33Speaker 7: universal Aesthetics is a good example of a service related
- 28:36Speaker 7: business that's done really well and they chose to go
- 28:38Speaker 7: to the Oak City District.
- 28:39Speaker 3: To be here. I've got a lot of businesses that
- 28:41Speaker 3: are choosing to be there quickly before we let you go.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Where can people get tickets again?
- 28:45Speaker 7: Charleston Urbanworks dot org. You can also go to October
- 28:48Speaker 7: West twenty twenty four Facebook page all the informations on

- 32:38Speaker 3: All right, team minus what ten hours or so from now?
- 32:41Speaker 3: I don't do math, so about six point thirty five
- 32:44Speaker 3: is his first pitch tonight.
- 32:46Speaker 16: Right, yep, exactly, So I think we're nine hours now.
- 32:49Speaker 3: There you go, pitch.
- 32:52Speaker 16: We're getting ready. You know, players are gonna arrive probably
- 32:55Speaker 16: right around one o'clock, two o'clock, and we're getting ready
- 32:58Speaker 16: to go.
- 32:58Speaker 3: All right, So I know you're keeping an eye on
- 33:01Speaker 3: the weather. What's the latest on the weather for tonight?
- 33:05Speaker 16: Should be fine. I think the showers should be gone
- 33:08Speaker 16: before first pitch. But again, the good news is we
- 33:10Speaker 16: have turfed field. We are never not going to get
- 33:14Speaker 16: a ballgame in. So even if you see like it
- 33:17Speaker 16: might be raining, maybe some thunderstorms, we always will have
- 33:20Speaker 16: this game in. So if you want to come to
- 33:21Speaker 16: a baseball game, come on down. There will be baseball play.
- 33:24Speaker 3: What's the feeling around the building this morning, because I
- 33:26Speaker 3: know I had you in studio you have dre But
- 33:28Speaker 3: what's the feeling like in the building. You said the
- 33:29Speaker 3: player is going to be arriving soon. Got that championship
- 33:32Speaker 3: feeling again?
- 33:34Speaker 16: Oh yeah, definitely. We have some new playoff merchandise coming in.
- 33:37Speaker 16: We had a playoff T shirt last week. We now
- 33:39Speaker 16: have a Southern Division champions T shirt coming in that's
- 33:42Speaker 16: going to be delivered soon. Once that's then it feels
- 33:45Speaker 16: a little bit more real for all of us working here,
- 33:46Speaker 16: and we're excited for first pitch.
- 33:49Speaker 3: Well, I've got to State Democratic Party chair in Delegate
- 33:51Speaker 3: Mike Pushkin in studio with me this morning. Pushwalks into
- 33:53Speaker 3: studio rocking his Dirty Birds shirt. He's ready to go,
- 33:56Speaker 3: aren't you, Michael.
- 33:57Speaker 17: That's right, that's right, rooting for the home team. Congratulations
- 34:00Speaker 17: and best of luck tonight.
- 34:02Speaker 16: Thank you, Thank I appreciate it. Yeah, we're excited. We
- 34:05Speaker 16: have Keiva Samson is going to be starting for us today.
- 34:08Speaker 16: He was our game one starter last week. Former big leaguer,
- 34:12Speaker 16: so we're excited. We feel I feel more confident about
- 34:16Speaker 16: this series than I did last week, to be honest
- 34:18Speaker 16: with you.
- 34:18Speaker 3: All right, Well, six pot thirty five is first pitch tonight,
- 34:20Speaker 3: and all the promotions. You can bring your dog out.
- 34:22Speaker 3: You got the two dollar deals going on. The kids
- 34:25Speaker 3: twelve and under are admitted free. So great night at
- 34:27Speaker 3: the ballparking again with this turf, you don't worry as
- 34:29Speaker 3: much about the rain. The only thing you worry about
- 34:30Speaker 3: is lightning. Hopefully we won't have that, and lightning never
- 34:33Speaker 3: causes cancelation of a game, or very rarely. It's always
- 34:36Speaker 3: just a little bit of a delay. But hopefully that one.
- 34:38Speaker 3: We're not going to complain about the rain because we
- 34:39Speaker 3: need it, but if we can just let it hold
- 34:41Speaker 3: off for the game tonight, two games tonight and tomorrow night,
- 34:43Speaker 3: and then you head out to York. Jill, I appreciate it.
- 34:46Speaker 3: We'll talk again soon. Best of luck tonight. I'll probably
- 34:48Speaker 3: be talking to you tomorrow.
- 34:50Speaker 16: Perfect. Thanks, Dave, I appreciate it.
- 34:51Speaker 3: Go Dirty Bird, Yeah, absolutely, Joe Garrett of The Dirty Birds,
- 34:54Speaker 3: Hopey Church. We'll coming up with metroduced talk line at
- 34:56Speaker 3: ten oh six Delicate. Joey Garcia on the show. This morning,
- 35:00Speaker 3: Ryan Schmels and Jared Halper to Fox News Radio, will
- 35:02Speaker 3: be on State Senator Mike Maroney arrested again. Brad has
- 35:06Speaker 3: the latest on that. Plus Tonight at the State Culture
- 35:09Speaker 3: Senator of the Capitol Grounds, Republicans are having what they
- 35:11Speaker 3: call the Victory Dinner. Guest speakers Daniel Cameron from Attorney
- 35:14Speaker 3: General of Kentucky he'll be joining Hobby on the show.
- 35:16Speaker 3: This morning. Michael Lipton of the West Virginia Music Hall
- 35:19Speaker 3: of Fame is on and he's gonna talk about the
- 35:22Speaker 3: death of a true West Virginia musical icon, Billy ed Wheeler,
- 35:25Speaker 3: who passed away. Boone County native passed away a couple
- 35:27Speaker 3: of days ago. That's all on talk Line coming up
- 35:30Speaker 3: at ten o six this morning. Tex says, why is
- 35:32Speaker 3: it called the Elk City District instead of the West Side. Well,
- 35:36Speaker 3: the answer to that is the Elk City District. It's
- 35:39Speaker 3: actually called the Elk City District of the West Side
- 35:42Speaker 3: because it's on the National Historic District Register, also on
- 35:46Speaker 3: the National Historic District Registers. Mike Pushkin, how you doing, man?
- 35:49Speaker 17: I think you just made the register registry yesterday with
- 35:53Speaker 17: your fifty fourth birthday.
- 35:54Speaker 3: Yeah. I've joined the fifty four club with you.
- 35:56Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Yeah, you're my age now now you still old.
- 36:00Speaker 17: You know a good thing. People aren't listening to you
- 36:03Speaker 17: and maybe late for the Dirty Birds game tonight. I'm glad,
- 36:06Speaker 17: Joe correct, we had people going an hour late. So
- 36:09Speaker 17: you just turned fifty four and already sensing a little
- 36:12Speaker 17: bit of cognitive decline there telling people go.
- 36:15Speaker 3: There seems to be a lot of that going around, well,
- 36:18Speaker 3: especially in this studio. All right, all right, big happenings
- 36:22Speaker 3: in Charleston this week, Michael, Tonight, the State Republican Party
- 36:25Speaker 3: is going to have what's being called the Victory Dinner
- 36:26Speaker 3: at the Culture Center. That's what you want to talk about.
- 36:29Speaker 17: Right, Well, actually, no, we have the Roosevelt Kennedy Dinner
- 36:32Speaker 17: for the day was a Joe party. Well, there's a
- 36:34Speaker 17: bit of a connection there because I believe their speaker
- 36:36Speaker 17: is Daniel Cameron. An our keynote speaker is the governor
- 36:39Speaker 17: of Kentucky who beat Daniel Cameron soundly in the last election.
- 36:43Speaker 17: We have Governor Andy Basheer. We are happy to have him.
- 36:46Speaker 17: You know, he was on the short list for vice
- 36:49Speaker 17: president and now he has been generous enough with his
- 36:53Speaker 17: time and his scheduling to come to Charleston, West Virginia
- 36:57Speaker 17: to join us for the Roosevelt Kennedy Dinner. And that's
- 36:59Speaker 17: this Friday day. The doors will open around six o'clock,
- 37:03Speaker 17: The dinner is around six point thirty. The program starts
- 37:06Speaker 17: probably around seven. You mentioned Michael Lipton, who's going to
- 37:09Speaker 17: be on Hoppy with his band The Carpenter ands they're
- 37:12Speaker 17: going to be the musical entertainment. They're bringing along nationally
- 37:16Speaker 17: known singer songwriter Nellie McKay. And of course we'll hear
- 37:20Speaker 17: from all of our state wide candidates like Mayor Steve Williams,
- 37:24Speaker 17: Mayor Glenn Elliott, all of our state wide candidates, and
- 37:27Speaker 17: we get to hear from Governor Andy Basheer, who has
- 37:30Speaker 17: a great message for West Virginians, not just Democrats in
- 37:33Speaker 17: West Virginia, for West Virginians in general. And you can
- 37:37Speaker 17: find those tickets and they're going fast. But you can
- 37:41Speaker 17: find those tickets at WV Democrats dot com and click
- 37:45Speaker 17: on Roosevelt Kennedy Dinner. We hope to see you there
- 37:48Speaker 17: Friday night.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Andy Basheer, for his part, he was on Hoppy yesterday.
- 37:52Speaker 3: If you get an opportunity to go back, I heard
- 37:54Speaker 3: the interview with Hoppy. Did he did a great job
- 37:56Speaker 3: on the interview with Hoppy yesterday. You may want to
- 37:58Speaker 3: go back and try to try to get that a listen.
- 38:00Speaker 3: It's kind of a big get, as we say in
- 38:02Speaker 3: the media business, for you to get Aye but she
- 38:03Speaker 3: here to come here.
- 38:04Speaker 17: I think it's a very big deal. You know. It's
- 38:06Speaker 17: also the kickoff of this what they're calling the New
- 38:09Speaker 17: South Bus Tour, which Andy was Sheer will be here
- 38:12Speaker 17: as part of and it'll be going all through the South,
- 38:15Speaker 17: winding up down in Georgia and Florida for the Harris
- 38:19Speaker 17: Walls campaign. But the kickoff is right here in Charleston,
- 38:22Speaker 17: West Virginia. So that's a very big deal as well.
- 38:25Speaker 17: This Friday, you know, September twenty seventh.
- 38:28Speaker 3: Where people get tickets and give us a ticket infl
- 38:30Speaker 3: we can.
- 38:30Speaker 17: Get everybody can get tickets at WV democrats dot com
- 38:34Speaker 17: and the event if I said this, the event is
- 38:36Speaker 17: being held at the Charleston Coliseum at Convention Center.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Okay, so special session is Monday. I know you've been
- 38:44Speaker 3: busy studying the agenda. We have not received an agenda yet. Unfortunately,
- 38:48Speaker 3: we will see. I mean, the governor is talking about
- 38:51Speaker 3: all sorts of things, but he's not really good at
- 38:53Speaker 3: showing up and building a consensus.
- 38:56Speaker 17: And you know, we'll see what we're actually able to do.
- 39:00Speaker 3: So are you what are you what are you looking
- 39:02Speaker 3: forward to? What would you like to see Mike Pushkin's
- 39:05Speaker 3: wish list on the call?
- 39:06Speaker 17: Well, I mean, obviously we need to address the childcare
- 39:08Speaker 17: crisis in this state. The governor has paid lip service
- 39:10Speaker 17: to it. The Republicans and the legislatures paid lip service
- 39:13Speaker 17: to it. But a lot of people are are struggling
- 39:16Speaker 17: right now to find care for their young children so
- 39:19Speaker 17: they can get to work. Every day we hear about
- 39:22Speaker 17: childcare agencies closing up left and right across West Virginia
- 39:27Speaker 17: because of the way that we do the subsidies, because
- 39:29Speaker 17: they're just not able to keep these businesses open with
- 39:32Speaker 17: the way that we're doing now. The governors talked about
- 39:35Speaker 17: this tax credit, but if you do the math on that,
- 39:37Speaker 17: I know that you're not great at math. We just
- 39:40Speaker 17: found that out earlier when you told people to go
- 39:41Speaker 17: to the game an hourly. But if you find somebody
- 39:44Speaker 17: who is good at math and you do the math
- 39:45Speaker 17: on it, his proposal would only say would save average
- 39:48Speaker 17: families maybe a couple hundred dollars a year, a year
- 39:52Speaker 17: that might pay for like one week of childcare. Unfortunately,
- 39:55Speaker 17: that's not going to do it. We really need to
- 39:58Speaker 17: do a deep dive into this and address the issue.
- 40:00Speaker 17: I don't think that's what the legislature plans on doing.
- 40:03Speaker 17: We'll see many in many cases, those springs eternal.
- 40:06Speaker 3: But we'll see in many cases the Republican leadership is
- 40:10Speaker 3: at odds with the governor, especially like you talk about
- 40:12Speaker 3: the state income tax plan. I mean, I've been able
- 40:14Speaker 3: to have Granted I don't have every politician to stay
- 40:16Speaker 3: on my show. I've talked to one state senator on
- 40:19Speaker 3: the Republican side that's for it. I'm sure there's others,
- 40:21Speaker 3: but I mean I personally talked to one that's for it.
- 40:23Speaker 3: But the big guys, you know, the ones in leadership,
- 40:26Speaker 3: you know, the the Tars and the Blairs and whatever
- 40:28Speaker 3: they're they're they're not feeling this, Mike, and a lot
- 40:30Speaker 3: a lot of Democrats, well, all Democrats aren't feeling it either.
- 40:33Speaker 13: Well.
- 40:33Speaker 17: I mean, I'm always open to the idea of putting
- 40:35Speaker 17: money back in people's pockets. That's that's taxpayers money, and
- 40:38Speaker 17: we should be good stewards of the of public funds
- 40:41Speaker 17: and the taxpayers money. My issue is there's a whole
- 40:44Speaker 17: lot of basic services that aren't being met. Whether it's
- 40:48Speaker 17: it's you know, in childcare, whether it's the overburdened foster
- 40:52Speaker 17: care system, whether it's the amount of families on the
- 40:54Speaker 17: Intellectual and Developmental disability weight list, and the fact that
- 40:58Speaker 17: once they get off the weight list, there's no still
- 41:00Speaker 17: not able to find in home care for their loved ones.
- 41:03Speaker 17: We don't have enough teachers in the classroom, we don't
- 41:06Speaker 17: have enough staff in our jails, and we don't have
- 41:10Speaker 17: there's just a lot of basic services that are not
- 41:13Speaker 17: being met. So no, this rocket ship Bride never got
- 41:16Speaker 17: off of the launch pad, and you know, there are
- 41:19Speaker 17: a lot of things that we need to fix first, Texas.
- 41:21Speaker 3: In fairness, are there enough Democrats left in West Virginia
- 41:24Speaker 3: to sell this thing out or will they bring them
- 41:26Speaker 3: in from out of state like the keynote speaker.
- 41:30Speaker 17: You know, historically we've all our speakers have always come
- 41:32Speaker 17: from out of state. You know, in the past, we've
- 41:34Speaker 17: had keynote speakers like former President Obama, former President Clinton.
- 41:39Speaker 17: We're happy to have somebody who was on the short
- 41:41Speaker 17: list for vice president this year. But yeah, there are
- 41:44Speaker 17: plenty of folks across the state who will be who
- 41:47Speaker 17: will be joining us Friday night over at the Charleston
- 41:50Speaker 17: Convention and Mentioned Center and Coliseum. Once again, the tickets
- 41:54Speaker 17: are available at WV Democrats dot com. So thanks for asking, Texter, have.
- 42:00Speaker 3: Mike I had former Wheeling mayor and Democratic nominee for
- 42:02Speaker 3: Senator Glenn Elliott. On the show last week, he was
- 42:05Speaker 3: in town opening up his new headquarters, and he is
- 42:09Speaker 3: calling for a debate between himself and Governor Jim Justice,
- 42:12Speaker 3: his opponent, Republican opponent in the Senate race. Justice is
- 42:16Speaker 3: saying no, Elliot said yes. Elliot's quote, which we turned
- 42:19Speaker 3: into a promo, by the way, says something you know.
- 42:22Speaker 3: He said on the show last week he said he
- 42:24Speaker 3: can even bring his dog. I'll bring mine to. What
- 42:27Speaker 3: does Mike Pushkin say about a possible debate? What's not
- 42:31Speaker 3: going to happen? I don't think. But the challenge of
- 42:32Speaker 3: a debate between Elliott and Justice, Well.
- 42:34Speaker 17: It's unfortunate that Governor Justice doesn't feel that the voters
- 42:39Speaker 17: of West Virginia should be.
- 42:40Speaker 3: He says the race is over. He said that, he
- 42:42Speaker 3: said it's over.
- 42:43Speaker 17: I think people deserve to hear these opposing viewpoints. And
- 42:47Speaker 17: you know, it's getting to be October. It's time for debates.
- 42:50Speaker 17: Governor Justices should agree to a debate. He should be
- 42:53Speaker 17: able to defend his policies, be able to defend his record.
- 42:57Speaker 17: Good luck defending that record. People need to get to
- 43:01Speaker 17: know more about Mayor Glenn Elliott, who has a great
- 43:03Speaker 17: record of you know, of economic development and growth in
- 43:08Speaker 17: the city of Wheeling. He's really turned that town around.
- 43:11Speaker 17: And and he has experienced in the US Senate. You know,
- 43:14Speaker 17: he started off his career working for Senator Bird, so
- 43:18Speaker 17: he knows where the Senate is located. It's in Washington,
- 43:21Speaker 17: d C. And you actually have to show up to
- 43:23Speaker 17: cast votes there. You have to show up to represent
- 43:26Speaker 17: West Virginia. And I don't think anybody thinks that Jim
- 43:29Speaker 17: Justice is actually going to show up for work.
- 43:31Speaker 3: He hasn't yet.
- 43:33Speaker 17: He doesn't want to show up for a debate. So
- 43:35Speaker 17: I don't know exactly what if, you know, if he's
- 43:36Speaker 17: got such a great record, he's done such a good
- 43:38Speaker 17: job defended.
- 43:39Speaker 3: But he says he doesn't have to because the race
- 43:42Speaker 3: is over. That's what he said during the press or
- 43:43Speaker 3: last week, Mike, he said this this race is over.
- 43:47Speaker 17: Well, yeah, maybe that's what you know. I mean, no,
- 43:50Speaker 17: that's not over to election day and the voters have
- 43:53Speaker 17: deserved to be able to hear their hear from their candidates.
- 43:55Speaker 17: And I don't know what he's afraid of. If he

- 46:45Speaker 10: Delegate Mike Pushkin is with us Tech says today, Mike
- 46:49Speaker 10: needs to note that the Democrats are done in West Virginia.
- 46:52Speaker 10: Citizens have had enough of the far left agenda that
- 46:55Speaker 10: the party follows.
- 46:58Speaker 17: Well, no, I disagree. I think that we're the party
- 47:01Speaker 17: that really holds true West Virginia values. But it's supporting
- 47:04Speaker 17: public education for everybody's kids, you know, being able to
- 47:08Speaker 17: maintain good roads and bridges and the expansion of broadband,
- 47:12Speaker 17: being able to trust the water that comes out of
- 47:14Speaker 17: your tap, good clean water for the people of West Virginia.
- 47:17Speaker 17: Protecting a woman's right to choose. You know, we would
- 47:20Speaker 17: like to put it on the ballot, and that's not
- 47:23Speaker 17: a far left President Trump. Former President Trump has been
- 47:28Speaker 17: calling for states to put it on the ballot. So
- 47:30Speaker 17: I'm not sure what the West Virginia Republicans are afraid of,
- 47:32Speaker 17: except they notice, like in every other state, they'll lose.
- 47:36Speaker 17: We're for protecting freedom, for restoring freedom, and the other
- 47:39Speaker 17: side seems to be for big government intrusion from the
- 47:43Speaker 17: boardroom to the bedroom, to the doctor's office, everywhere. They
- 47:46Speaker 17: just want to intrude on our lives from birth to death.
- 47:50Speaker 3: Texas, Dave just checked. We are still forty ninth and
- 47:52Speaker 3: fiftieth in just about every category possible. Justice and the
- 47:55Speaker 3: Republicans call this progress. Another text ask about if you
- 47:59Speaker 3: had any comment on Mike Maroney. Senator Maroni was arrested
- 48:04Speaker 3: yesterday on suspicion of and I don't have the notes
- 48:07Speaker 3: in front of me, but a suspicion of driving into
- 48:09Speaker 3: the influence. I think he had like ah retire, he
- 48:12Speaker 3: had a like aspired sticker or something like that as well.
- 48:14Speaker 3: Second time he's been arrested. The other time was for
- 48:18Speaker 3: sexuality in public and no one else was present in
- 48:22Speaker 3: a gambling parlor. He of course got beat in the primary,
- 48:25Speaker 3: but he's still the senator until January.
- 48:28Speaker 17: A senator, he's a Republican Senator. He's the chair of
- 48:31Speaker 17: the of the Health Committee, I believe unless they removed him.
- 48:34Speaker 17: And it's to me, it's just sad. I'm you know,
- 48:37Speaker 17: I've been very open about the fact that I'm in
- 48:39Speaker 17: long term recovery, so I can I can spot obvious
- 48:43Speaker 17: substance use disorder when I see it. To arrests in
- 48:47Speaker 17: a short period of time, it's sad and I just
- 48:49Speaker 17: hope he gets the help that he needs. But I
- 48:50Speaker 17: will say I don't appreciate the hypocrisy. And I'll point
- 48:54Speaker 17: out that Senator Maroney was the lead sponsor of a
- 48:58Speaker 17: bill to drug test people who were TANAF. Well, he
- 49:01Speaker 17: also gets a paycheck from the state and has he
- 49:04Speaker 17: been in paired doing his job. So uh, to me,
- 49:08Speaker 17: I'm all for I hope he gets the help that
- 49:10Speaker 17: he needs. But uh, I don't. I don't appreciate the
- 49:14Speaker 17: hypocrisy of calling for drug testing. Uh, folks on TANAF
- 49:18Speaker 17: if you're I mean when they introduced that bill, When
- 49:22Speaker 17: he introduced that bill, we had an amendment to drug
- 49:24Speaker 17: test legislators. You know they didn't pick it up, but
- 49:27Speaker 17: I think we should. If you're going to drug test
- 49:29Speaker 17: people on tanna, line him up and drug test the
- 49:32Speaker 17: people voting on it here.
- 49:34Speaker 15: Uh.
- 49:34Speaker 3: Last week, Honey to Mayor Steve Williams might call for
- 49:37Speaker 3: the legalizing of recreational cannabis. So do you think this
- 49:39Speaker 3: is a smart move on Mayor Williams party. He called
- 49:41Speaker 3: for a.
- 49:42Speaker 17: Vote, a vote, but he does say he said he
- 49:44Speaker 17: would be he would support it, but he called for
- 49:46Speaker 17: a vote. It's like in any state that has legalized that,
- 49:48Speaker 17: it's been a vote of the people. I think that
- 49:51Speaker 17: who could be against that, letting the people speak up
- 49:53Speaker 17: on it, you know, And they're in uh, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania,
- 49:57Speaker 17: many of our surrounding states. You can many westerngin Indians
- 50:00Speaker 17: can drive, you know, half hour twenty minutes in a
- 50:02Speaker 17: new direction and buy it legally. And in those states,
- 50:06Speaker 17: the sky hasn't fallen, the earth hasn't stopped spinning, and
- 50:09Speaker 17: not a single state that has gone that way has
- 50:12Speaker 17: has gone back. They like the added revenue they get.
- 50:15Speaker 17: They liked actually just the freedom of allowing adults to
- 50:19Speaker 17: make that determination for themselves. It's like they would with
- 50:23Speaker 17: you know, beer, wine, alcohol. So now, while I do
- 50:27Speaker 17: not definitely don't condone the use, I think that adults,
- 50:31Speaker 17: adults in West Virginia to be able to make that
- 50:32Speaker 17: determination for themselves, but I definitely trust the voters to
- 50:35Speaker 17: decide on that. So the same thing with reproductive freedom.
- 50:39Speaker 17: I would like to have that on the ballot as well.
- 50:41Speaker 17: It's not just me here Donald Trump saying that states
- 50:44Speaker 17: the people in the states should be able to vote for.
- 50:46Speaker 3: It, and some people in the Republican Party aren't happy
- 50:49Speaker 3: with that. I've had texts of the show that people
- 50:51Speaker 3: that aren't happy with Trump about that, well, that they
- 50:53Speaker 3: should say so out loud.
- 50:54Speaker 17: They should say they're not happy with Trump. Instead, they
- 50:57Speaker 17: just go along with the rest of the cult and
- 50:59Speaker 17: go along with whatever he says publicly. But if they're
- 51:01Speaker 17: not happy with something, say so. But that's one thing
- 51:04Speaker 17: I agree with them on. The people should be able
- 51:06Speaker 17: to vote. But the Republican leadership in West Virginia is
- 51:09Speaker 17: afraid of that because they know, just like in every
- 51:11Speaker 17: other state, whether it's Ohio and Montana, any red state,
- 51:14Speaker 17: blue state, purple state, where they vote on putting on freedom,
- 51:18Speaker 17: on restoring reproductive freedom, freedom always wins. So let the
- 51:22Speaker 17: people of West Virginia vote on it.
- 51:24Speaker 3: Before we close, I want to give you an opportunity
- 51:26Speaker 3: to talk about something totally away from politics. It's you're
- 51:29Speaker 3: a good friend. And she's been a guest on the
- 51:30Speaker 3: show here Sierra Ferrell, local musician who is absolutely just
- 51:35Speaker 3: killing it to a Cavetor mentioned that she's going to
- 51:36Speaker 3: be in concerted to Clay Center. Talk about what Sierra
- 51:39Speaker 3: Ferrell is doing right now on the nationwide front.
- 51:42Speaker 17: Just last week, she won two major awards with the
- 51:47Speaker 17: Americana Music Association. She took them the two biggest awards,
- 51:50Speaker 17: Artists of the Year and an Album of the Year.
- 51:53Speaker 17: And the reason she won is she truly put out
- 51:56Speaker 17: the best best record last year. If you don't believe me,
- 51:59Speaker 17: go listen to it from start to finish. Trail of
- 52:01Speaker 17: Flowers is a great record. And in my opinion, I'm
- 52:04Speaker 17: a little bit biased, I think she's the greatest performer
- 52:06Speaker 17: on the planet. So that's why I should have been.
- 52:07Speaker 17: And she'll be here in Charleston Saturday night. You know,
- 52:11Speaker 17: two years ago she played at the Roosevelt Kennedy Dinner.
- 52:13Speaker 3: She was here, she was here on the shelf. Roosevelt.
