- 1:12Speaker 1: Rochi by Central Texas Sports Medicine. Talk some hoops here.
- 1:17Speaker 1: In the first hour, we've got a high school report.
- 1:20Speaker 1: We have an abbreviated second hour. We have women's basketball
- 1:23Speaker 1: five point fifteen. But before we get there, we're going
- 1:27Speaker 1: to talk Duck Sunlimited. The banquet's coming up at the
- 1:31Speaker 1: Clark Eisenhower Outdoor Edition. Aggie basketball team is in a
- 1:36Speaker 1: three game losing streak after dropping a tough eighty six
- 1:41Speaker 1: eighty five decision to Missouri last night at Reed Arena
- 1:47Speaker 1: before an announced crowd of seventy seven hundred that were
- 1:52Speaker 1: fewer than that. The lead changed hands eight times in
- 1:58Speaker 1: the last five minutes. The last one was a terrific
- 2:02Speaker 1: playout of a timeout on a dunk by Sean Phillips.
- 2:08Speaker 1: The Tigers pushed A and M all over the court,
- 2:11Speaker 1: out rebounded them by thirteen at sixteen offensive boards, and
- 2:18Speaker 1: Zuri looked really good last night. The Aggies have a
- 2:24Speaker 1: tough road game at Vanderbilt on Saturday. It won't get
- 2:30Speaker 1: any easier. Joe Lombardi has his bracketology out the Aggie's
- 2:36Speaker 1: still in the tournament were under the falling category that
- 2:42Speaker 1: he has. TCU is the first four out. Texas is
- 2:48Speaker 1: a last four in Missouri with their win is a
- 2:53Speaker 1: last four win as well. They certainly looked like a
- 2:58Speaker 1: tournament team last night.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Eight.
- 3:01Speaker 1: The Nasmith Basketball Hall of Fame has announced finalists for
- 3:06Speaker 1: its election coming up, which will be announced on April fourth,
- 3:11Speaker 1: because that's my birthday. It includes Mark Few at Gonzaga,
- 3:18Speaker 1: Dick Mada, Doc Rivers, Kelvin Samson. Among the players Blake Griffin,
- 3:27Speaker 1: Kevin Johnson, and Buck Williams. Macklin Celebrini was making his
- 3:35Speaker 1: debut for Canada, stopped all twenty six shots he faced
- 3:40Speaker 1: as the Canadians beat Chechia five to nothing today In
- 3:45Speaker 1: hockey at the Olympics, the US, who had two goals
- 3:49Speaker 1: overturned in the first period, also hit a crossbar and
- 3:54Speaker 1: a post. Finally in the second period broke through with
- 3:58Speaker 1: three goals. They lead Latvia four to one just starting
- 4:03Speaker 1: the third period. They would play again on Saturday. The
- 4:08Speaker 1: IOC has been Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladislav Hariskevitch from competing
- 4:16Speaker 1: after Harskevitch refused to take off a helmet that he
- 4:21Speaker 1: was wearing that honored athletes killed in Russians evasion invasion
- 4:28Speaker 1: of the Ukraine. A and M will have thirteen players
- 4:32Speaker 1: at the NFL Draft Combine. That is the most they've
- 4:37Speaker 1: ever had. The previous school record was nine. The last
- 4:41Speaker 1: one of those was in twenty twenty two. Alabama LSU
- 4:46Speaker 1: Ohio State at twelve, eleven and eleven, Jase Besants, Nate Portkircher,
- 4:53Speaker 1: Demetrius crownover Casey Concepcioned cash As how Will Lee, Leveovoss,
- 5:00Speaker 1: Tayler oyot On, Yiddim Armajheried Adams, Albert Regis Scooby, Williams Tory,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and York Trey Zoon all invited to the combine. Closing
- 5:13Speaker 1: arguments in the Trinidad Chambliss hearing have ended. Judge Robert
- 5:18Speaker 1: Whitwell expected to make a decision.
- 5:21Speaker 4: By this afternoon.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Chambliss's counsel argued the NC double A acted in bad
- 5:27Speaker 1: faith to dying him a medical red shirt in twenty
- 5:32Speaker 1: twenty two. The NC double A claimed there was not
- 5:35Speaker 1: enough medical evidence. BYU wide receiver Parker Kingston has been
- 5:42Speaker 1: charged with one count of first degree felony rape and
- 5:47Speaker 1: has being held without bond. Kingston and Utah native played
- 5:52Speaker 1: four years with the Cougars was the team's leading receiver.
- 5:56Speaker 4: This past year.
- 5:58Speaker 1: He was taken into custody after an investigation into a
- 6:02Speaker 1: twenty year old woman's report.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Of sexual assault.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Last February, SMU is moving upcoming home games against Oklahoma
- 6:13Speaker 1: and LSU to Jerry World. It will be the first
- 6:18Speaker 1: time the Mustangs have played in the Cowboys home stadium.
- 6:23Speaker 1: SMU moved to Marquee non conference games for branding and
- 6:29Speaker 1: revenue opportunities, meaning Jerry World holds eighty thousand, SMU Stadium
- 6:36Speaker 1: holds thirty three thousand. My guess is at Lashley isn't
- 6:41Speaker 1: real happy about that, because what that does is that
- 6:45Speaker 1: allows a lot of Oklahoma and LSU fans into a
- 6:50Speaker 1: stadium that normally they couldn't get tickets too. But hey, revenue,
- 6:56Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Lunch baseball starts tomorrow for
- 7:02Speaker 1: the Aggies. They are at home hosting Tennessee Tech tomorrow
- 7:09Speaker 1: evening six o'clock. I believe if I'm not mistaken on
- 7:15Speaker 1: that game, and I'm seldom mistaken, the Aggies will play
- 7:22Speaker 1: on Saturday and again on Sunday, And is that right, Traye,
- 7:28Speaker 1: six o'clock, so we'll have five forty five pregame here
- 7:32Speaker 1: on the zone and Rio Hissatune from Japan, who is
- 7:38Speaker 1: really good last week shot a ten under sixty two
- 7:43Speaker 1: to take the lead at Pebble Beach. This afternoon, we
- 7:48Speaker 1: have a Jordan Speith siding who's playing. I believe its
- 7:52Speaker 1: spyglass was five under through nine holes. Chris Gottterup, who's
- 7:57Speaker 1: been on a roll, was seven under. I believe Scotty
- 8:01Speaker 1: was even par. If you'll remember last week, Scotty was
- 8:07Speaker 1: ten shots back after the first round and missed the
- 8:11Speaker 1: playoff by one.
- 8:12Speaker 4: The United States.
- 8:14Speaker 1: We need a goal horn man, We need to get
- 8:16Speaker 1: us a goal horn. The United States has just scored
- 8:20Speaker 1: their fifth goal, seventeen to twenty five remaining in the
- 8:24Speaker 1: third period at the Olympics. They lead Latvia by a
- 8:28Speaker 1: score of five to one.
- 8:32Speaker 4: So USA, USA.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Okay, we will take a break. We're going to talk
- 8:40Speaker 1: basketball when we come back. That was quite a remarkable game.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I thought the Alabama game and it was I think
- 8:50Speaker 1: still maybe a hair better. But my gosh, last night,
- 8:56Speaker 1: it was a tournament level basketball okay with a few
- 9:02Speaker 1: mistakes thrown in which in a one point game, mistakes
- 9:06Speaker 1: by either side will be magnified.
- 9:08Speaker 4: This portion of the program is brought to you by and.

- 10:18Speaker 1: So fulcome back, Thanks for joining us. I'll visit with
- 10:23Speaker 1: Kurt Bulls as we always do on tomorrow's program. Ryan
- 10:28Speaker 1: will be here. We'll be back on Monday. Well, the
- 10:30Speaker 1: writers roundtable on Monday. I'm sure we'll talk some college
- 10:37Speaker 1: basketball on Monday. We'll talk some college baseball on Monday.
- 10:42Speaker 1: The baseball season gets underway at Olson Field tomorrow night. Now,
- 10:49Speaker 1: right now, it looks pretty good talking gweather. Right now,
- 10:55Speaker 1: it looks like twenty degrees warmer than it normally.
- 10:58Speaker 4: Is during these aery openers, and I.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Think Saturday's game is going to be okay as well.
- 11:07Speaker 1: By the evening there is a or by the afternoon.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I should say, there is a chance of rain Friday
- 11:19Speaker 1: evening into Saturday. And we haven't seen rain around here
- 11:24Speaker 1: like I think we're living in Phoenix.
- 11:28Speaker 4: It has been a while. We need some rain and
- 11:33Speaker 4: we'll see how all that plays out.
- 11:35Speaker 1: That system is supposed to be out of here, and
- 11:39Speaker 1: that game is Saturday afternoon, and then they will play
- 11:46Speaker 1: again at noon on Sunday. Okay, last night, rit Arena.
- 11:53Speaker 1: It was kind of everything that I thought it might be.
- 12:00Speaker 1: From this standpoint, I knew Missouri had talent. I haven't
- 12:05Speaker 1: watched a whole game of Missouri. I had just watched
- 12:08Speaker 1: bits and pieces. I did not know how much talent
- 12:12Speaker 1: Missouri had. I didn't know how huge Missouri was. I
- 12:17Speaker 1: didn't know that there was another team in the SEC
- 12:21Speaker 1: that could compete with Florida in terms of size. And
- 12:28Speaker 1: my gosh, Missouri is huge. And they took a page out.
- 12:33Speaker 1: They watched the Florida tape and took a page out
- 12:37Speaker 1: of that. And I knew there was big problems at halftime.
- 12:45Speaker 1: If you're a fan and you watch your team hit
- 12:54Speaker 1: eleven out of seventeen to three point shots and you're
- 13:00Speaker 1: still only up five points, that's a problem.
- 13:05Speaker 4: I mean, that's that was an issue.
- 13:10Speaker 1: But Missouri shot fifty percent from the field in the
- 13:13Speaker 1: first half.
- 13:14Speaker 4: They had five.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Threes of their own. They're not a great three point
- 13:17Speaker 1: shooting team. And then the second half it was just
- 13:22Speaker 1: on and again credit to A and M. They got
- 13:26Speaker 1: down eight, thought the game was over because A and
- 13:29Speaker 1: M led most of the time. The Missouri goes on
- 13:34Speaker 1: a run, they get up eight you're going this doesn't
- 13:38Speaker 1: this doesn't look good. But A and M comes back,
- 13:43Speaker 1: they get a lead. What a play called by Dennis
- 13:47Speaker 1: Gates and his staff on the pick and the lob
- 13:51Speaker 1: for the slam for the go ahead bucket, and A
- 13:56Speaker 1: and M could not answer in the last four seconds,
- 14:00Speaker 1: so they could beat eighty six eighty five. Like I said,
- 14:06Speaker 1: Missouri looked like a tournament team last night. They were impressive.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Trent Pearce was impressive. Sean Phillips, Barrett the guard, they
- 14:18Speaker 1: were pretty dang good. They had sixteen offensive rebounds to
- 14:22Speaker 1: eight for A and M. Here is Bucky after the game.
- 14:27Speaker 9: Really tough loss, man, We really really you knew that'd
- 14:30Speaker 9: be a tough game via a hard fall game, probably
- 14:32Speaker 9: come down the last four minutes, and it did nothing surprising.
- 14:35Speaker 5: They are.
- 14:37Speaker 9: You know. I didn't feel good at halftime when we
- 14:41Speaker 9: shot a great percentage from the field and from three
- 14:44Speaker 9: we found ourselves.
- 14:45Speaker 5: Up by five points.
- 14:46Speaker 9: We couldn't stop there and we couldn't combat their size.
- 14:51Speaker 9: I don't know if I've coached a game where we've
- 14:52Speaker 9: literally tried as many things on defense as we did
- 14:55Speaker 9: to stop them and still couldn't.
- 14:56Speaker 5: I mean, we went from man.
- 15:00Speaker 9: Switching it one through four and man switching one through
- 15:04Speaker 9: five and man switching it with just with the guards.
- 15:06Speaker 9: Then we went to zone, and we went zone to man.
- 15:10Speaker 5: Then we went.
- 15:10Speaker 9: Pressed no trapped, and pressed trapped, then diamond Lately. We
- 15:15Speaker 9: tried everything in that game to stop those guys from
- 15:17Speaker 9: getting buckets at the rim to get the game in
- 15:20Speaker 9: our favor, and we couldn't. I mean, they scored fifty
- 15:24Speaker 9: six points in the paint, so I mean, that's that's tough.
- 15:28Speaker 9: We knew that they made seven threes in the game,
- 15:30Speaker 9: I believe, or let's see what they made seven threes
- 15:32Speaker 9: in the game. They made two in the second half,
- 15:35Speaker 9: and you know, it still came down the possession offense.
- 15:38Speaker 5: But I thought were actually pretty good.
- 15:39Speaker 9: We got good shots, went four for sixteen from three
- 15:41Speaker 9: the second half when we had great looks the second half.
- 15:44Speaker 9: I know we could say we shot forty five percent
- 15:46Speaker 9: from three, but I would expect us to shoot at
- 15:48Speaker 9: least that, But with a lot of the looks that
- 15:49Speaker 9: we did have. They're really big, so I don't want
- 15:53Speaker 9: to negate that.
- 15:54Speaker 5: Like we're not. I mean they're average height.
- 15:57Speaker 9: It's taller than our tallest starter, which is six to seven,
- 15:59Speaker 9: so they're going to get some offensive rebounds, they're going
- 16:01Speaker 9: to get somewhe.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Around the paint. Was just it was just too much.
- 16:05Speaker 5: When you have one one point loss, you go back.
- 16:08Speaker 9: A lot of people just look at the last possession
- 16:10Speaker 9: or the last forty five seconds, and there's things we
- 16:14Speaker 9: could have done better. We're trying to get it Rashawan
- 16:16Speaker 9: in the possession before where we take it three. That
- 16:18Speaker 9: a good job of wrapping up denying them. But the
- 16:21Speaker 9: truth is, man, when you look at basketball one point games,
- 16:24Speaker 9: you can always go back and look at the totality
- 16:26Speaker 9: of the game and think what could we have done
- 16:28Speaker 9: to not allow one point or to score one more point?
- 16:31Speaker 9: And unfortunately, I think we'll look back and we may
- 16:33Speaker 9: see a miss block out here. They are not enough
- 16:35Speaker 9: scrap for a rebound, not enough scrap to get our
- 16:38Speaker 9: hands on the ball, eric turnover. And if that happened
- 16:42Speaker 9: the last possession, body's walking out of here talking about it.
- 16:45Speaker 9: If it happened the first possession, no one remembers it.
- 16:47Speaker 9: But they're equal is important, so anyway, moving forward, it
- 16:51Speaker 9: is what it is. No one's gonna feel sorry for
- 16:52Speaker 9: us in this league. It is what this league is
- 16:56Speaker 9: this is what it is. Close games. Good teams as
- 16:59Speaker 9: the Tens one four the last six beat the Gay
- 17:01Speaker 9: Florida one of their only loss, is more than capable
- 17:03Speaker 9: and obviously they got us tonight.
- 17:06Speaker 5: What did you like from Clement's tonight?
- 17:09Speaker 9: Played with confidence, played really hard, played with a little
- 17:11Speaker 9: reckless abandon obviously shot the ball well, and he was
- 17:16Speaker 9: a matchup problem when they switched, and he was able
- 17:18Speaker 9: to get in the post and get some buckets when
- 17:20Speaker 9: we when we had to have them.
- 17:22Speaker 10: Let's see with him, what's your how do you process
- 17:25Speaker 10: through having a guy who's on a heater like that
- 17:28Speaker 10: but also has four thousand You know it's going to
- 17:30Speaker 10: be a one possession.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Game with all the points in the We just had
- 17:33Speaker 5: to roll with him. I didn't think.
- 17:37Speaker 9: Some of our other guys weren't played didn't play as
- 17:38Speaker 9: well tonight, and so we had to just go with him.
- 17:41Speaker 5: And then if he filed out, he filed out, you know.
- 17:43Speaker 9: So he was actually doing the small things pretty good.
- 17:46Speaker 9: We had some guys that didn't work doing the small
- 17:49Speaker 9: play a little bit more, that weren't doing the small.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Things very well tonight, So we need to keep him
- 17:55Speaker 5: in there.
- 17:55Speaker 9: As long as we could that seven eight minutes stretch
- 17:58Speaker 9: in the second half where y'all to make a shot.
- 18:00Speaker 11: What went wrong?
- 18:01Speaker 1: Was that just getting cold after getting really hot in.
- 18:04Speaker 5: The first or was there something defensively differently? It was
- 18:09Speaker 5: not too much different.
- 18:10Speaker 9: We had some good looks throughout that stretch that we missed.
- 18:15Speaker 9: You know, I told our guys, just like in the
- 18:17Speaker 9: in the Florida game, don't get antsy on defense here,
- 18:20Speaker 9: stay solid, don't just try to go hit a home
- 18:22Speaker 9: run when we get down and three guys run at
- 18:24Speaker 9: the ball. And then on office. You got to trust
- 18:27Speaker 9: each other, you know. There were some times we could
- 18:29Speaker 9: have pitched the ball at the floor. We did it,
- 18:31Speaker 9: you know, which I didn't like to see. But we
- 18:34Speaker 9: got back right to trusting each other. We we made another,
- 18:37Speaker 9: made another run. Offense won the problem tonight. Shoot and
- 18:41Speaker 9: fifty percent from the field, not having more than ten
- 18:43Speaker 9: turnovers forty six percent from three, eighty percent from the
- 18:46Speaker 9: free throw line usually is gonna get it done for
- 18:49Speaker 9: you if if you can.
- 18:50Speaker 5: Find ways to stop them.
- 18:51Speaker 9: But we just, uh, you know, we didn't do a
- 18:54Speaker 9: good job to stopping them.
- 18:55Speaker 11: To your point about defense, just what's coming through your
- 18:58Speaker 11: mind when you're throwing the kitchen sink at them per
- 19:00Speaker 11: se and trying all different thingstphan's working, and we just
- 19:04Speaker 11: re kind of at a loss that that whatever you
- 19:07Speaker 11: guys were trying, nothing seemed to work.
- 19:10Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, and then how even when we did
- 19:13Speaker 9: play good defense, they get it. They had a great
- 19:14Speaker 9: opportunity to get offense. Really that had sixteen offensive rebounds.
- 19:17Speaker 9: Some of that were blocking out some of us because
- 19:19Speaker 9: their size, But you know, that was an issue. You know,
- 19:23Speaker 9: at the end of the day, some of these teams
- 19:25Speaker 9: with size, it's not really about and they got it.
- 19:28Speaker 9: They were a nice lot play late and they're not
- 19:30Speaker 9: negating the.
- 19:31Speaker 5: Good things they run, but eventually they just kind.
- 19:33Speaker 9: Of spread freight out and we're gonna put our head
- 19:34Speaker 9: down and we're gonna drive you guys feel over taller
- 19:37Speaker 9: than you're bigger than you.
- 19:38Speaker 5: And we don't we don't feel you could stop us
- 19:40Speaker 5: one on one.
- 19:41Speaker 9: And sometimes we did, but a lot of times we didn't.
- 19:45Speaker 5: And and that was an issue.
- 19:47Speaker 10: Would you'd like to have seen Rashaan get the ball
- 19:49Speaker 10: in his hands a little bit more than The second
- 19:51Speaker 10: effort was that they're doing a good job of denying
- 19:53Speaker 10: him late.
- 19:56Speaker 9: You know, you always want to get the ball in
- 19:58Speaker 9: Sean's hands. We try to get it to him the
- 19:59Speaker 9: position before we were up one with the ball. We
- 20:02Speaker 9: didn't do a good job of getting in the ball
- 20:04Speaker 9: in the block right there.
- 20:05Speaker 5: We didn't. We just couldn't get it to them.
- 20:07Speaker 9: But you know, I think if you go back and
- 20:10Speaker 9: you look at the shots in the second half, for
- 20:11Speaker 9: the most part.
- 20:13Speaker 5: Pretty good.
- 20:13Speaker 9: I bet you'll say they're pretty good for an SEC
- 20:15Speaker 9: basketball game. I really do, so whatever that means, you know,
- 20:19Speaker 9: I mean, went eleven for seventeen from three to the
- 20:21Speaker 9: first half, went four for sixteen in the second half,
- 20:24Speaker 9: where the three is much better in one half. We'll
- 20:27Speaker 9: go back and look. But if I had to guess,
- 20:29Speaker 9: they probably weren't that different, you know what I'm saying.
- 20:33Speaker 9: So it's what the game called for. Now, they're huge,
- 20:36Speaker 9: So the advantage is not probably at the rim of
- 20:37Speaker 9: that game, and it probably is from the outside.
- 20:40Speaker 5: Can probably been.
- 20:40Speaker 10: There's not that many games in your career where y'all
- 20:44Speaker 10: average one point three points per possession, and so it's
- 20:47Speaker 10: a close game and the loss that that's kind of
- 20:49Speaker 10: a little bit of anomally.
- 20:50Speaker 5: Yeah, that did happen very often, you know, at all.
- 20:52Speaker 9: And that's why I said it's about it's about stops,
- 20:55Speaker 9: and we just couldn't couldn't find find stops. Every possessions magnified.
- 21:00Speaker 9: It's a turnover, you know or not. You know, it's
- 21:06Speaker 9: magnified in games like that when it's one point game,
- 21:08Speaker 9: when you go back and you look at it and.
- 21:09Speaker 3: You shoot that well in the first half and then
- 21:11Speaker 3: you're only up five, what's the message to the guys
- 21:14Speaker 3: at halftime.
- 21:15Speaker 9: We'll win this game if we don't play a lot
- 21:17Speaker 9: more physical and are able to stop them for get
- 21:19Speaker 9: points at the room.
- 21:20Speaker 5: No chance to win the.
- 21:20Speaker 9: Game if that doesn't change, because we couldn't skill wise,
- 21:25Speaker 9: couldn't have played much better better in the game on offense.
- 21:29Speaker 12: Sorry, Oh, I'm just gonna ask what do you think
- 21:32Speaker 12: made them so difficult to defend.
- 21:34Speaker 10: In the paint?
- 21:35Speaker 5: I think their size. Obviously, they're very big, you know.
- 21:38Speaker 9: I mean they start three guys pretty much six ten
- 21:41Speaker 9: or higher, you know, so that's a problem. They're good drivers,
- 21:47Speaker 9: they played their strengths well, you know, so we're hoping
- 21:52Speaker 9: to have a cumultive wear down on They don't play
- 21:54Speaker 9: a lot of guys. They did a good job and
- 21:55Speaker 9: taking care of the ball for the most part. I
- 21:59Speaker 9: thought maybe we had to say, Sarah, we made our
- 22:00Speaker 9: run back where they were a little tired.
- 22:02Speaker 5: We were a little tired, but.
- 22:03Speaker 9: You know, we're scoring right back in the game, so
- 22:06Speaker 9: you know, size and then they got clear to what
- 22:08Speaker 9: they're doing.
- 22:10Speaker 13: We're all for y'all.
- 22:12Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's what do you say to the guys.
- 22:18Speaker 4: I mean, you've lost three in a row and that's.
- 22:21Speaker 5: Not obviously not good. Two of them are by a
- 22:23Speaker 5: total of four points. Yeah, you know, what do you
- 22:26Speaker 5: say to the guys after after one like this?
- 22:28Speaker 9: I thought we played well at Alabama, thought we played
- 22:30Speaker 9: well on both sides of Baldawm Alabama though they scored
- 22:32Speaker 9: one hundred. We probably did what we had to do
- 22:34Speaker 9: this game. You know, I felt I didn't think we
- 22:36Speaker 9: played good our Florida this game. I felt that we
- 22:39Speaker 9: will find things on this tape where we could have
- 22:41Speaker 9: took a possession away with sheer physicality or scrap you
- 22:47Speaker 9: know what I'm saying. I think that we could find
- 22:48Speaker 9: a possession there, you know, not not about a mishot,
- 22:51Speaker 9: you could we.
- 22:53Speaker 5: Think that that was the play that were going to
- 22:55Speaker 5: run there.
- 22:55Speaker 3: The one thing.
- 22:57Speaker 5: We don't know.
- 22:58Speaker 9: All we said was we you they're gonna drive this
- 23:01Speaker 9: thing to the They're gonna try to score this thing
- 23:03Speaker 9: at the rim. You know, we knew that we made
- 23:06Speaker 9: a mistake. We should have bumped the backstreen and they
- 23:08Speaker 9: went the same play twice in a row. For the
- 23:09Speaker 9: most part, we went two lobs in a row, didn't
- 23:11Speaker 9: bump the backscreen.
- 23:12Speaker 5: So you know, it is what it is. We said
- 23:14Speaker 5: before that they scored, We're not gonna take a time out.
- 23:16Speaker 9: We're gonna play out two hoigh ball screens play out.
- 23:18Speaker 9: We got a pretty good look at it. But you know, again,
- 23:22Speaker 9: it uh scored at the rim, you know what I'm saying,
- 23:25Speaker 9: And we can't we can't allow that. I don't care
- 23:27Speaker 9: what happens, they can't score it at the rim in
- 23:29Speaker 9: a one point game.
- 23:30Speaker 11: No, we've asked you about Rubin recently, but just another
- 23:33Speaker 11: tough night for him shooting just leave you guys kind
- 23:37Speaker 11: of found anything that that he's kind of had just
- 23:39Speaker 11: a little bit of a tough time with and trying
- 23:41Speaker 11: to remedy there.
- 23:42Speaker 9: Yeah, shooters, I mean they you know, there's obviously ebbs
- 23:45Speaker 9: and flows with it, you know, maybe a little tired,
- 23:48Speaker 9: you know, maybe to get a little bit more rest here.
- 23:52Speaker 9: I wouldn't overthink it for him. I think he'll be
- 23:54Speaker 9: back and you know, may make nine threes next game.
- 23:57Speaker 9: But you know, obviously he's a threat that uh you know,
- 24:01Speaker 9: when he's when he's on track, it will really help us.
- 24:04Speaker 11: You feel like they did a little better at being
- 24:06Speaker 11: less antsy.
- 24:08Speaker 9: We had a stretch there where I don't know that
- 24:12Speaker 9: and I got it.
- 24:13Speaker 5: It was unfortunate.
- 24:14Speaker 9: We're in the second half where Sean kind of stays
- 24:16Speaker 9: up there on the miss and we're going back and
- 24:19Speaker 9: Ryland falls down. We had two buckets we gave up
- 24:21Speaker 9: in transition. We just kind of fell down, you know,
- 24:23Speaker 9: and they would and racked it. So, you know, I
- 24:26Speaker 9: hope there wasn't more to that. The wasn't a reason
- 24:28Speaker 9: we fell down. We're running uphen we shouldn't be. But
- 24:30Speaker 9: we we did a good job of staying patient when
- 24:32Speaker 9: they had the lead and playing team basketball when they
- 24:35Speaker 9: had the lead. That's what got us back in the
- 24:37Speaker 9: game and eventually got it to take a lead.
- 24:39Speaker 5: Say this, I appreciate the the fans were coming tonight.
- 24:41Speaker 9: They were good. We felt to fault with us all
- 24:44Speaker 9: the way there, and you know they had an impact
- 24:47Speaker 9: on the game, that's for sure. It's Wednesday night, eight
- 24:49Speaker 9: o'clock game, and we really appreciate them. You know, we'll
- 24:53Speaker 9: have a lot of these. It is what it is,
- 24:56Speaker 9: sec man, it's they couldn't go either way. But the
- 24:58Speaker 9: great party is you got great opportunities every night here
- 25:00Speaker 9: to make up for it.
- 25:02Speaker 5: But we appreciate everybody. Thank you all.
- 25:04Speaker 1: It's Bucky and you know you knew the crowd was
- 25:09Speaker 1: going to be different than it was against Florida, right,
- 25:13Speaker 1: it was probably half as many people in the building.
- 25:18Speaker 1: That's not what got A and M b But in
- 25:21Speaker 1: a one point game, maybe two thousand more students would
- 25:25Speaker 1: have made the difference. But A and M got out physical,
- 25:29Speaker 1: not just and Bucky mentioned that, not just because of
- 25:34Speaker 1: the height. They just got pushed around. I thought. And
- 25:42Speaker 1: you know, Zach Clements had a great offensive game, no question,
- 25:45Speaker 1: eight out of ten from the field, three out of
- 25:48Speaker 1: four from threes. But you look at the stat line.
- 25:52Speaker 1: You know, Zach Clement's a tall guy. We had three boards.
- 25:58Speaker 1: You got to get more than that from him. Jamie Vincent,
- 26:02Speaker 1: who played early, didn't play a lot late. You know,
- 26:07Speaker 1: his height could help, which was one of the reasons
- 26:11Speaker 1: Clements came in. He had two boards, and both of
- 26:16Speaker 1: those guys really got pushed around at the rim by Missouri.
- 26:20Speaker 4: They were just.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Not strong enough, not physical enough. You have a seven
- 26:29Speaker 1: foot guy there, he's got to have more than two rebounds,
- 26:33Speaker 1: and if he had would have had more than two rebounds,
- 26:36Speaker 1: he would have played more than you know, eight minutes
- 26:39Speaker 1: that he played. Federico's deep on the bench, not saying
- 26:43Speaker 1: he shouldn't be hasn't been good. He's a big guy, right,
- 26:49Speaker 1: his presence would have helped if we were seeing the
- 26:53Speaker 1: same player we saw in Lubbock, and we're not seeing
- 26:55Speaker 1: the same player pop Isaac's He didn't play any down
- 26:59Speaker 1: the stretch at all. He was one for five and
- 27:07Speaker 1: had zero rebounds. They they just got pushed around, and
- 27:17Speaker 1: that's that. I think that was the toughest part of
- 27:20Speaker 1: the whole thing. And you know, Missouri is a team
- 27:26Speaker 1: that's you're gonna have to reckon with them. They're not consistent.
- 27:34Speaker 1: The man they host Texas on Saturday, Texas doesn't have
- 27:41Speaker 1: a lot of hype either.
- 27:42Speaker 4: They've got the big guy.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Other than that, they don't have a lot inside, So
- 27:55Speaker 1: keep a close eye on that. Missouri has to keep winning.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Taxes has to win. They're like a last four in.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Missouri's now a last four out. But last night that
- 28:06Speaker 1: was a tournament team. I don't care which say. I
- 28:08Speaker 1: watched a lot of basketball. They were good. But A
- 28:14Speaker 1: and them's got to be more physical somehow. I mean,
- 28:16Speaker 1: they've got to.
- 28:17Speaker 4: And they have to get the ball.
- 28:19Speaker 1: And the question was asked about Rashwan ag at every game,
- 28:25Speaker 1: he's just like the lone ranger in the paint right
- 28:30Speaker 1: trying to fight off all those big guys. He only
- 28:33Speaker 1: got five shots. He made four of them. My thought
- 28:38Speaker 1: is maybe he should have gotten ten shots. Now, that
- 28:41Speaker 1: last play wasn't great, No doubt they were packed in there.
- 28:49Speaker 1: It wasn't great because it didn't work that it worked.
- 28:51Speaker 1: It a great play. Missouri made a great play with
- 28:57Speaker 1: six seconds after However, time it will on that screen
- 29:01Speaker 1: and the alley. U. But thing is in this league
- 29:07Speaker 1: now you gotta flush it. You got Vanderbilt. You got
- 29:10Speaker 1: to go to Nashville, play in a place that is
- 29:13Speaker 1: historically difficult to play just because it's weird. You know,
- 29:18Speaker 1: it's not necessarily the fans are that loud or you know,
- 29:22Speaker 1: it's one of those places. It's just a weird gym
- 29:26Speaker 1: to play in. And historically Vanderbilt has done very well.
- 29:31Speaker 1: They're coming off a win at Auburn and seem to
- 29:35Speaker 1: be getting their footing back. You have A and M Vanderbilt, Alabama, Missouri,
- 29:44Speaker 1: and Tennessee all at seven and four. That's one game
- 29:50Speaker 1: behind Arkansas and Kentucky in two games back of Florida.
- 29:55Speaker 1: All right, we're gonna have a high school report coming up.
- 29:58Speaker 1: We're gonna hear from Missouri head coach Tennis Gates coming
- 30:02Speaker 1: out as well. And gentlemen, we're sitting at forty eight
- 30:08Speaker 1: hours to Valentines and you don't have anything, and you
- 30:14Speaker 1: probably won't have anything until like Saturday afternoon when you
- 30:18Speaker 1: realize you've screwed up. But one last opportunity for me
- 30:24Speaker 1: to suggest you make a trip to Galleria, either at
- 30:29Speaker 1: the Rock Prairie location across the street from Scott and

- 30:37Speaker 1: Get a gift certificate. Let them put it in that
- 30:40Speaker 1: nice pretty bag with all the ribbons on it the
- 30:44Speaker 1: way it should look for Valentines.
- 30:47Speaker 4: Put a card with it. You're done.

- 33:00Speaker 17: Ready wee little bit in fifty am and ninety three
- 33:02Speaker 17: points settled found this.
- 33:05Speaker 18: Welcome into the high School Report. I'm calib Brapley, and
- 33:07Speaker 18: today we're jumping out to the Players Fund Center phone
- 33:09Speaker 18: line to visit with the head coach of the Brian
- 33:13Speaker 18: Lady Vikings softball team. Miss Melissa Campbell, coach, thanks for
- 33:16Speaker 18: joining me today.
- 33:17Speaker 15: Of course, thanks for having me absolutely.
- 33:20Speaker 18: So your Vikings started off their season officially on Tuesday
- 33:25Speaker 18: with the fourteen to ten win over the Rudder Rangers.
- 33:29Speaker 18: I know that's always fun to start out the season
- 33:32Speaker 18: with a local rival opponent. So what are your thoughts
- 33:36Speaker 18: on your team this year as opposed to the last
- 33:38Speaker 18: year's squad and how do you think they did against Rutter.
- 33:42Speaker 15: Well last night, we definitely made our Rudder game pretty exciting.
- 33:45Speaker 15: We have a fairly young team this year. We have
- 33:47Speaker 15: three seniors returning, so we have a good mixture of seniors, junior, sophomore,
- 33:51Speaker 15: and freshman. I'm really excited. We've got some help in
- 33:54Speaker 15: the pitching department this year with a couple of freshmen
- 33:56Speaker 15: that are coming in that can help out our pitching rotations.
- 33:59Speaker 15: So I'm really excited for that and just to kind
- 34:02Speaker 15: of see what happens in the season. We're a small team,
- 34:04Speaker 15: but we're all bought in together on what we need
- 34:06Speaker 15: to do and take care of business, so I'm excited
- 34:08Speaker 15: to see what happens.
- 34:10Speaker 18: So last year was a bit of a tough season,
- 34:13Speaker 18: sixth place in the district. What are your thoughts on
- 34:16Speaker 18: how you can improve this year.
- 34:17Speaker 15: I definitely think there's a room for growth. Last year
- 34:20Speaker 15: we just had a hard heard. We've been a hard
- 34:22Speaker 15: deck because we had one pitcher for all of our
- 34:26Speaker 15: district games, Brenda Scott, and she did everything in her
- 34:29Speaker 15: power to try to get us some wins. But when
- 34:31Speaker 15: you just don't have anybody to rotate in, it makes
- 34:33Speaker 15: it hard. And we're also in a pretty tough district.
- 34:36Speaker 15: So I think that us coming in with kind of
- 34:38Speaker 15: a fresh mindset of being all in for each other,
- 34:41Speaker 15: going to the plate and producing, going all out on defense,
- 34:44Speaker 15: being all in on each other, and having the help
- 34:46Speaker 15: in the pitching department. Like I said, I think we're
- 34:49Speaker 15: going to have a pretty competitive year going up against
- 34:51Speaker 15: some district opponents, and I'm really hoping to upset some people.
- 34:55Speaker 18: This weekend is the NFCA Leadoff Classic Tournament, playing a
- 35:00Speaker 18: few games against a variety of opponents, Lorena Shadow, Creek,
- 35:04Speaker 18: and Cameron Yo.
- 35:05Speaker 5: So what are your thoughts.
- 35:06Speaker 18: What are your thoughts going into this tournament.
- 35:08Speaker 15: I think it'll be a good competitive showing for us.
- 35:12Speaker 15: This tournament always kind of brings a little mixture of
- 35:14Speaker 15: everybody in I like playing people that aren't necessarily local,
- 35:18Speaker 15: just so we can get a different view, have some
- 35:21Speaker 15: different views of pitchers, see what some other teams can do,
- 35:24Speaker 15: and just go out there and compete, because that's all
- 35:25Speaker 15: this is. All these tournaments and pre district games, they're
- 35:28Speaker 15: just all warm ups for districts. So I'm hoping we
- 35:31Speaker 15: can go and learn and grow and hopefully come out
- 35:33Speaker 15: with a couple of wins and just go out there
- 35:36Speaker 15: and compete and show what we've got.
- 35:38Speaker 18: So you mentioned tough district, just you know, same teams
- 35:42Speaker 18: as last year. It will get shaken up a little bit,
- 35:46Speaker 18: I'm guessing next season. But yes, both of the Kaleen
- 35:50Speaker 18: schools in there, Coppers, Cove, Harker Heights, Temple, and Midway
- 35:53Speaker 18: out of Waco. So who do you think might be
- 35:56Speaker 18: the district favorite and some of the teams that you're
- 35:58Speaker 18: going to be competing with.
- 36:00Speaker 15: I mean, Midway always has a really strong and successful program.
- 36:03Speaker 15: I mean they proved that by going to winning state
- 36:05Speaker 15: last year, so they're always definitely a huge contender. Cove
- 36:09Speaker 15: as well, They've got they've got some returners that are
- 36:12Speaker 15: coming back this year that I'll definitely give everybody a
- 36:15Speaker 15: run for their money. But all the rest of the
- 36:16Speaker 15: teams in our district are super scrappy, They're really competitive.
- 36:20Speaker 15: They kind of we all push each other and we
- 36:23Speaker 15: always have play really good games against all those other schools.
- 36:26Speaker 15: So it's like I said, it's it's a tough district.
- 36:29Speaker 15: We all come to compete and we all push each other.
- 36:31Speaker 15: But yeah, I mean it's just one of those districts
- 36:35Speaker 15: where there is no off days.
- 36:37Speaker 18: You mentioned earlier, a young team this year, so having
- 36:41Speaker 18: to replace some some seniors and playing some younger kids,
- 36:46Speaker 18: which is always you know, interesting and leaves a lot
- 36:49Speaker 18: of room for growth and improvement. Who is somebody that
- 36:52Speaker 18: you've been impressed with, you know, early in the season
- 36:54Speaker 18: here that's stepped up as a young player to fill
- 36:57Speaker 18: that role.
- 36:59Speaker 15: So last night Lily cashtro she's one of our freshman pictures.
- 37:02Speaker 15: She went into pitch against Rudder a little shaky in
- 37:05Speaker 15: the start, but kind of definitely found a rhythm. She
- 37:07Speaker 15: was able to think strikeout four or five, so kind
- 37:11Speaker 15: of got her feet wet is first varsity game out
- 37:13Speaker 15: we have Conley Porter. She holds it down behind the plate.
- 37:16Speaker 15: She's also a freshman. She can play catcher or third,
- 37:20Speaker 15: and she's kind of coming up. She's getting used to
- 37:23Speaker 15: high school ball and the competitiveness of it. But then everybody,
- 37:27Speaker 15: like I said, everybody pulls their weight on this team.
- 37:29Speaker 15: We have a young sophomore or Sally Martinez, who's playing
- 37:32Speaker 15: second base for US this year. She's got a really
- 37:34Speaker 15: good glove. Our returning shortstop, Addison Sanchez, she's definitely grown
- 37:38Speaker 15: into a leader, and she's a sophomore as well. And
- 37:41Speaker 15: then our juniors hold it down as well, So it's
- 37:43Speaker 15: definitely a full team effort. Trinity Rush had an amazing
- 37:46Speaker 15: game last night at the plate. She's a returning senior.
- 37:49Speaker 15: She had a triple, a double, an to think a
- 37:51Speaker 15: single last night. So it's definitely a full team effort.
- 37:55Speaker 1: There.
- 37:56Speaker 15: There is no there is no off inning, there is
- 37:58Speaker 15: no off play like everybody pools or wait the entire time.
- 38:01Speaker 15: So I'm really pleased with all the output that we've
- 38:03Speaker 15: had so far. Granted we've had one game. There's a
- 38:05Speaker 15: lot of still room for growth, so I'm just kind
- 38:07Speaker 15: of excited to see where we can get to by district.
- 38:10Speaker 18: So we're here in the early part of February, got
- 38:13Speaker 18: the whole season in front of you. What does success
- 38:16Speaker 18: look like for the Vikings in twenty twenty six. What
- 38:19Speaker 18: are some of your goals.
- 38:21Speaker 15: Some of our goals. Obviously, playoffs is always a goal.
- 38:25Speaker 15: Being very realistic, got those expectations, and beating the teams
- 38:28Speaker 15: that we know we can beat, and competing against the
- 38:30Speaker 15: teams that we know we can maybe have an upset,
- 38:33Speaker 15: So playoffs is always a goal. I think having more
- 38:36Speaker 15: wins than last year is definitely a goal for us
- 38:38Speaker 15: as well. We've done a lot of work in the
- 38:41Speaker 15: team bonding and togetherness departments, so I feel like there's
- 38:44Speaker 15: so much growth there that it can only start resulting
- 38:47Speaker 15: on the field of us just being all in bought together.
- 38:51Speaker 15: Like I said, we're led by a really group, great
- 38:53Speaker 15: group of seniors. They're my first group that I've had
- 38:55Speaker 15: all four years, so they really are like some of
- 38:58Speaker 15: the building blocks of this program, and I'm hoping that
- 39:01Speaker 15: this last year for them, we can go out and
- 39:03Speaker 15: surprise some people and just have a great year altogether.
- 39:07Speaker 18: All right, Coach, Well that's all I have for you today.
- 39:09Speaker 18: I really appreciate your time and wish you luck this season.
- 39:11Speaker 15: Of course, thank you.

- 43:40Speaker 1: Come on, Thanks for joining us here. On a Thursday afternoon,
- 43:45Speaker 1: I mentioned that we are going to hear from the
- 43:49Speaker 1: Missouri coach last night.
- 43:52Speaker 4: Here's Dennis Gates.
- 43:55Speaker 12: Extremely proud of our guys and every detail of execution
- 43:59Speaker 12: that they followed. It could have gotten a little hectic
- 44:03Speaker 12: against the pressing team, and most of the time, presses
- 44:07Speaker 12: are meant to disrupt the connection between players and coaches,
- 44:12Speaker 12: and our guys didn't let that happen to be able
- 44:15Speaker 12: to end the.
- 44:15Speaker 5: Game with nine turnovers.
- 44:17Speaker 12: Specifically, and give them credit, they turned us over a
- 44:21Speaker 12: couple of times, but to end the game with nine turnovers,
- 44:24Speaker 12: that was one of our goals twenty one assists. I
- 44:28Speaker 12: didn't want our guys at all to fall in love
- 44:31Speaker 12: with the three point line, as I knew they were
- 44:33Speaker 12: scorching hot in that first half, going to eleven for seventeen,
- 44:37Speaker 12: So I said, guys, at halftime.
- 44:39Speaker 5: They'll double their threes.
- 44:41Speaker 12: I want us to divide our threes bout two and
- 44:45Speaker 12: divide it.
- 44:46Speaker 5: And we divided it.
- 44:47Speaker 12: We only took about six or seven threes in that
- 44:49Speaker 12: second half, and we just was able to maximize our
- 44:52Speaker 12: efforts and the paint and get back to.
- 44:54Speaker 5: What belonged to us.
- 44:55Speaker 12: Sean Phillips executed the game winning basket after that time
- 44:59Speaker 12: out to a It worked before, but he hit his
- 45:02Speaker 12: elbow on the rim with his athleticism, and that trajected
- 45:06Speaker 12: the ball or deflected the ball and caused the miss.
- 45:09Speaker 12: But our guys executed everything they needed to. I'm proud
- 45:13Speaker 12: of our group.
- 45:14Speaker 16: Questions for coaching, well, coach, you know, defensively, what do
- 45:18Speaker 16: you feel like was the biggest difference between the first
- 45:21Speaker 16: and the second half?
- 45:22Speaker 5: For you guys?
- 45:24Speaker 12: Their basket closed up. They were scorching hot in that
- 45:26Speaker 12: first half. Man, and we knew we had the matrix
- 45:29Speaker 12: on our side. You take away those those those eleven
- 45:32Speaker 12: out of there. I think she's what was eleven out
- 45:37Speaker 12: of their seventeen baskets was from three, So I knew
- 45:40Speaker 12: from a statistical standpoint, and I told our team, don't
- 45:44Speaker 12: change what you're doing. And by golly, they ended up
- 45:48Speaker 12: driving the ball a little bit more, but they still
- 45:50Speaker 12: settled for their threes without the paint touches Age's and
- 45:55Speaker 12: I'm proud of a g man.
- 45:57Speaker 5: I'm from.
- 45:57Speaker 12: I'm from Chicago. I'm from I'm from the same city
- 46:00Speaker 12: he's from. If you guys knew his story, you would understand.
- 46:04Speaker 12: And he's a heck of a player. I've seen him
- 46:08Speaker 12: ever since he was a freshman in high school, and
- 46:10Speaker 12: he's grown up and has done a great job. His
- 46:13Speaker 12: leadership speaks values for this team and he's their heartbeat.
- 46:17Speaker 12: But you look at his baskets in that first half,
- 46:20Speaker 12: and now you look at him in the second half.
- 46:23Speaker 12: If he would have gave us a lot more trouble,
- 46:25Speaker 12: if he would have had more touches. But you know
- 46:28Speaker 12: the game and the ball bounces the way it does.
- 46:32Speaker 11: What do you feel like? You know you guys were
- 46:36Speaker 11: able to do on that last play and mitigate him
- 46:39Speaker 11: getting the ball.
- 46:40Speaker 5: Well, we wanted Sean.
- 46:42Speaker 12: We knew they were going to try to take Sean
- 46:43Speaker 12: away from the basket against our Georgia game. Sean really
- 46:47Speaker 12: beats himself up because he gave up a layup a
- 46:50Speaker 12: game win, a layup at.
- 46:51Speaker 5: Home against Georgia.
- 46:52Speaker 12: So we put him in that same situation and he
- 46:55Speaker 12: was able to get a deflection with his size, his athleticism,
- 46:59Speaker 12: and the referees allowed the guys to play in the
- 47:02Speaker 12: last two They didn't call a file for Mark Mitchell.
- 47:04Speaker 12: On the other end, they didn't call a file for
- 47:06Speaker 12: ag They let the players decide the game.
- 47:09Speaker 5: And that's what it's about.
- 47:10Speaker 12: I'm just happy our guys were able to get the
- 47:12Speaker 12: loose ball the way that they did and ultimately our
- 47:17Speaker 12: defense won it. We were able to get up eight
- 47:19Speaker 12: in that in that or seven in that second half
- 47:23Speaker 12: with about twelve minutes, but they fought back, and our
- 47:25Speaker 12: guys didn't didn't blink, They didn't didn't break. We may
- 47:28Speaker 12: have been in a little bit, but we didn't break.
- 47:32Speaker 9: Were you anticipating that they to look for Rae Last?
- 47:35Speaker 5: Absolutely? We knew exactly what they were going to do.
- 47:38Speaker 12: Uh, And we called it out from the standpoint because
- 47:41Speaker 12: I would have done the same thing from a coaching
- 47:43Speaker 12: perspective if you need two and you're and you're down one.
- 47:47Speaker 5: Absolutely, it was.
- 47:48Speaker 12: A catch for a g a fake handoff and he
- 47:51Speaker 12: was gonna drive. So we kind of knew what was
- 47:53Speaker 12: going on, especially when they put their two guards. That
- 47:56Speaker 12: confirmed it when they put their two guards away to
- 47:59Speaker 12: allow him to have that entire side of the court.
- 48:02Speaker 12: But our guys in our huddle spoke about that same place.
- 48:06Speaker 12: So when you have your players telling the coaches exactly
- 48:09Speaker 12: what's gonna go on, they they knew and I knew
- 48:13Speaker 12: we had a chance to get a stop at that.
- 48:15Speaker 12: You know, it was a great game and an old
- 48:17Speaker 12: fashioned SEC blowout.
- 48:21Speaker 15: Coach.
- 48:22Speaker 11: Obviously, Phillips came up with the two plays at the
- 48:24Speaker 11: end of the game. How have you seen him grow
- 48:27Speaker 11: throughout this season.
- 48:29Speaker 4: In your start, Sean has.
- 48:33Speaker 5: Jumped leaps and bounds.
- 48:36Speaker 12: Due to his environment and the infectious personality, the ability
- 48:42Speaker 12: for his teammates to allow him to be himself. He's
- 48:46Speaker 12: a very respectful young man, one with a tough pass,
- 48:50Speaker 12: the trouble pass man. And when I say trouble, his
- 48:53Speaker 12: upbringing wasn't great. But to know that he rolls up
- 48:57Speaker 12: out of that and he allows himself, trust with his
- 49:01Speaker 12: coaching staff, trust with his teammates. That's the only thing
- 49:04Speaker 12: you gotta see a reflection of him actually putting a
- 49:08Speaker 12: guard down and loving his teammates back, and loving his
- 49:12Speaker 12: coaching staff and allowing himself to be the leader that
- 49:16Speaker 12: no one gave him an ability to do. He's a
- 49:19Speaker 12: leader for us. He didn't want to be named captain.
- 49:21Speaker 12: I wanted to name him captain. He didn't want that publicly.
- 49:25Speaker 12: But what he does for our team, what he does
- 49:29Speaker 12: for his teammates, He's an unbelievable young man. And I'm
- 49:32Speaker 12: proud of them, proud of the plays he made, Proud
- 49:35Speaker 12: of him allowing me to coach them hard, push him,
- 49:39Speaker 12: but also his growth. His growth is tremendous, and that's
- 49:44Speaker 12: what you have to look at. When you look at
- 49:46Speaker 12: development of young people, maybe environments are the reason why
- 49:51Speaker 12: they're unable to grow, but the right environment for each
- 49:54Speaker 12: kid is different. The right environment allows gods to grow.
- 49:58Speaker 18: What do you think contributed the must tells successful thing.
- 50:01Speaker 12: It's what we do, It's the unselfishness. I thought we
- 50:04Speaker 12: settled for a lot of threes uh in the first half,
- 50:07Speaker 12: so again I wanted to cut that in half. And
- 50:10Speaker 12: while we knew that they were scorching hot, we knew
- 50:13Speaker 12: the one factor. This was the most physical, non fouling
- 50:18Speaker 12: game that I've ever seen in the first half, and
- 50:20Speaker 12: credit to both teams, but in that I wanted to
- 50:24Speaker 12: get back to our identity. I wanted our guards to
- 50:27Speaker 12: not settle. I wanted our shooters to make open shots,
- 50:31Speaker 12: but don't lean on those open threes against the team
- 50:34Speaker 12: that's pressing.
- 50:36Speaker 5: A team that's pressing.
- 50:37Speaker 12: We knew going into this game, because of Florida's ability
- 50:40Speaker 12: to get into the paint, you can't press at this
- 50:43Speaker 12: level like that, and we knew that they would go
- 50:47Speaker 12: to a zone and our guys were prepared well. When
- 50:50Speaker 12: we made the run, we were able to get a
- 50:52Speaker 12: lot of layups as well, so Ultimately, we put pressure
- 50:56Speaker 12: on the basket, and we've done that all season long.
- 50:58Speaker 12: We wanted the best teams that stopping point paint or
- 51:02Speaker 12: points in the paint, and we're one of the best
- 51:04Speaker 12: in the country at getting points in the paint. So
- 51:07Speaker 12: ultimately a decision has to be made, and they made
- 51:10Speaker 12: the decision. The zone stifled us a little bit, but
- 51:13Speaker 12: our guys didn't settle in that second half and we
- 51:15Speaker 12: were able to control the paint. Fifty six points in
- 51:18Speaker 12: the paint was awesome.
- 51:20Speaker 16: Coach Till Barret and Trimp Pierce slid away offensive piece
- 51:23Speaker 16: for y'all, what's working for them throughout the nation.
- 51:27Speaker 12: Well, at the end of the day, going downhill, I thought,
- 51:31Speaker 12: TiO Barrett going downhill. He finished eight for thirteen from
- 51:34Speaker 12: the field for assists, seventeen points. Trent Piers ten field goals,
- 51:38Speaker 12: twenty three points, nine rebounds. Both those guys were able
- 51:42Speaker 12: to allow those easy baskets to come to them. Trent,
- 51:44Speaker 12: great job halking the ball, halking the rebounds. I thought
- 51:47Speaker 12: at the end of the day. A changing factor in
- 51:49Speaker 12: that game I thought was a goal ten that was
- 51:53Speaker 12: not called And I told our guys, you know, turnovers
- 51:57Speaker 12: this game is if you respond to the So if
- 52:00Speaker 12: you respond to the files, if you respond to certain things,
- 52:04Speaker 12: that's a turnover against a high pressure team, you cannot
- 52:07Speaker 12: take your time to wonder why a call didn't go
- 52:10Speaker 12: your way. So our guys just focused on a game,
- 52:13Speaker 12: didn't allow the crowd to distract them, didn't allow turnovers
- 52:16Speaker 12: to distract us, and they just stay connected.
- 52:19Speaker 1: The Stinni skates after the game and love the shout
- 52:22Speaker 1: out to fellow Chicago native rushaun Age and talking about him,
- 52:30Speaker 1: and he was glad ag didn't get more paint touches
- 52:34Speaker 1: in the second half.
- 52:36Speaker 4: By the way, US five Latvia one.
