- 0:00This is the 23rd episode of the Bluegrass Blues
- 0:02Podcast. I'm Jesse. And I'm Amy. Well, we have
- 0:13a bunch of rallies coming up in about a week
- 0:17and a half. There's a new phase of no -kings
- 0:19rallies, and there are going to be, what, thousands
- 0:22of them across the country? There are, and it's
- 0:25on March 28th, and we have over 50 rallies planned
- 0:30in Kentucky, which, of course, went heavily for
- 0:34Trump. So you're seeing that people all across
- 0:38the country, including in red states like ours,
- 0:41and not just in blue cities, in small towns,
- 0:45are also coming to protest the fact that Donald
- 0:49Trump is not a king. He cannot make decisions
- 0:53unilaterally, that we have a constitution. And
- 0:57I really encourage everybody listening to go
- 1:01to NoKings .org and they've got this great find
- 1:07an event near you. You put in your zip code or
- 1:09address and it will show you where the event
- 1:13close to you is and what time and all the details.
- 1:18So please, please attend one of these No Kings
- 1:21rallies. It is time. It is time. If we haven't
- 1:29stepped up yet, now is the time. As you know,
- 1:33a lot is going on that we're not very happy about.
- 1:37And we just really encourage you to show up for
- 1:40the rallies. And this, you know, we've had rallies
- 1:44throughout the past year, and the message is
- 1:49consistent. We have a president who wants to
- 1:51be king, who thinks he's a king, who thinks that
- 1:53he can do whatever he wants to do, and there's
- 1:57no one that's going to stop him. And the, well,
- 2:01Congress has shown that they're not stopping
- 2:03him, particularly the Republicans in Congress.
- 2:06But there are, you know, the rallies are... There
- 2:11are, what, at least three or four rallies that
- 2:13are going to take place in the Louisville area.
- 2:16As you said, there are rallies that are going
- 2:17to be all across the state. But, you know, the
- 2:21message before was we don't want a president
- 2:24who's a king, but that kind of leads us into
- 2:27what has he done recently to show that he thinks
- 2:30he's a king. Right. And I think it's the war.
- 2:33Bombing Iran? It's the war. Another unnecessary
- 2:36war. And, you know, it's just consistently doing
- 2:44things that we are not in favor of. And it's
- 2:50now at the point where, you know, the people
- 2:54on the left are people who are against Trump
- 2:57who are considered people on the left, although
- 2:58I think there are more people. in general against
- 3:01trump they have been very vocal about how they
- 3:05feel about this administration and all of the
- 3:08crimes it's been doing all of the evil that it's
- 3:11caused but the thing that will be interesting
- 3:15in this bunch of no kings rallies is how many
- 3:18people from the right show up because this is
- 3:21now the war well we're in a war uh it's not a
- 3:27like a it's just It's unprovoked. I would say
- 3:32it's an unprovoked war. We were told that the
- 3:35first time he bombed Iran several months ago
- 3:39that he had done mission accomplished. It was
- 3:42one of those George Bush mission accomplished
- 3:44moves where we don't have to be there anymore
- 3:46because we've succeeded in our mission. And there
- 3:50were no nukes, although that one was about. There
- 3:52were never any nukes there because Iran never
- 3:55had the capability of building nuclear weapons.
- 3:58And if they had any capability, we bombed them
- 4:01so many times in the past that, yes, if they
- 4:05were trying to build one, that was bombed. And
- 4:08if Iran had nuclear weapons, they would use them.
- 4:14Of course. I mean, that's... the scary part about
- 4:19this. And it's so absurd because Trump says,
- 4:22oh, and we just want the people to rise up and
- 4:25take their country. And yet just today, Israel
- 4:28basically said, if people start to protest what's
- 4:33happening in Iran, they'll get slaughtered because
- 4:36they got slaughtered earlier this year. Well,
- 4:38that's been the American problem for a long time.
- 4:41We say that the people in these countries have
- 4:44to gather up. After we bomb their country. Well,
- 4:48even before then, you say that we have to do
- 4:51this because we're bombing them and that the
- 4:53people should rise. And when the people rise,
- 4:55we disappear. We did that in Afghanistan. We
- 4:57did that in Iraq. And now we're creating this
- 5:01situation in Iran. But, you know, it's... And
- 5:08meanwhile, when he's golfing, you know, children
- 5:11are being murdered, you know, across their country.
- 5:14Yeah. He's a murderer. They're bombing schools
- 5:17because they actually don't know what they're
- 5:21doing. And there's no exit strategy. There's
- 5:25no strategy. But the thing about the Iran situation,
- 5:28too, is that there was a development in Washington
- 5:31today where the director of the National Counterterrorism
- 5:36Center, the guy's name is Joseph Kent. resigned.
- 5:43And he's resigned because he says that he doesn't
- 5:47support the war in Iran. And he's MAGA. He's
- 5:50total MAGA. He was all in favor of the January
- 5:546th invasion. He's known to hang out with the
- 5:58Proud Boys. And he's been named in charge of
- 6:04counterterrorism. And he decides today that he's
- 6:08not going to be part of this administration anymore
- 6:12because, well, his resignation letter is really
- 6:18a condemnation of Israel and it's going to lead
- 6:21to more anti -Semitism in this country because
- 6:24he's saying, let me see, I'm going to quote his...
- 6:31line in his resignation letter, Iran posed no
- 6:34imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear
- 6:38we started this war due to pressure from Israel
- 6:40and its powerful American lobby. And I just want
- 6:44to say, as a Jewish person, I just want to cut
- 6:46in. I mean, he basically is using these very
- 6:50historic, dangerous, anti -Semitic tropes that
- 6:53Jews are responsible for this war. Jews have
- 6:57deceived our great leader. Jews and the media,
- 7:01which of course are Jews. Yeah, right. Whenever
- 7:04they say the American media or something, that's
- 7:08the right -wing way of saying Jews are in control.
- 7:12They do that all the time. And this guy is all
- 7:16in on that. rhetoric in his departure letter.
- 7:21So what this has led to is an attack on a synagogue.
- 7:28Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Right.
- 7:32The guy who attacked the temple, who killed himself.
- 7:38One of his motivations was that the bombing in
- 7:42Iran led to the death of his... Actually, southern
- 7:46Lebanon. Southern Lebanon, I'm sorry. Two brothers
- 7:50and niece and nephew. Right, so he's attacking
- 7:54the facility that he thinks closely represents
- 7:59what the interests of this war are. So that is,
- 8:04he's created this anti -Semitism, well, the Trump
- 8:08administration has created this anti -Semitism.
- 8:12sentiment among the American public, particularly
- 8:16among white males, because I saw a study recently
- 8:20where it said that more than half of the white
- 8:23males in America don't think the Holocaust happened.
- 8:27Which is absolutely terrifying. Yeah, right.
- 8:31But this fits into this whole... this MAGA craziness
- 8:37about the Jews run everything or you know we
- 8:41don't have the capability of not being influenced
- 8:45by Israel which is a very dangerous um sentiment
- 8:50to uh leave people feeling but that's what this
- 8:54director of counter -terrorism who is like as
- 8:58MAGA as you can get yeah and that's a sign that
- 9:03MAGA is against this war and that is I'm sure
- 9:06that's why Trump is freaking out now because
- 9:08He thought that they would follow him no matter
- 9:11what? But the war has now sort of solidified
- 9:16this Move against Trump. So this brings us back
- 9:20to the no kings in America rally, right? Are
- 9:23MAGA people going to show up for this? I know,
- 9:25well, I know several, I have several Republican
- 9:30friends who are not Trumpers. I have even more
- 9:33Republican friends who are family members that
- 9:37had voted for Trump that are now very unhappy
- 9:40with this administration. And I want to go back
- 9:43to the anti -Semitic thing because I... I have
- 9:49talked, you know, I told you that I formed a
- 9:51group called Jewish Louisvillians for Peace as
- 9:54a result of the outsized military effort on behalf
- 10:02of Israel against Hamas in Gaza and how many
- 10:05tens of thousands of people were killed because
- 10:08of October 7th and 1 ,200 Israelis were killed.
- 10:12It was brutal. It was the most... Jews killed
- 10:16since the Holocaust. Very brutal attack by Hamas.
- 10:19But no diplomatic avenues were even discussed.
- 10:25It was just, okay, we're going to bomb them now.
- 10:28And you can see in Gaza what's happened, too,
- 10:31is Trump wants to put his name on the Riviera,
- 10:35on the coast of that. I just want to disabuse
- 10:41people of, you can be against Bibi Netanyahu,
- 10:45you can be against Trump, and that is not anti
- 10:50-Semitic. What is anti -Semitic is these attacks
- 10:54on Jewish synagogues, Jewish institutions around
- 10:58the world. Those are anti -Semitic acts, and
- 11:01they should be condemned harshly. And I don't
- 11:04know that everybody is really seeing that. No,
- 11:07that's the thing. People don't understand anything.
- 11:10I get the feeling that people are just going
- 11:13by gut reactions when, as I said, when 50 % of
- 11:17white men think that the Holocaust didn't happen.
- 11:20and now you've given them more fuel for their
- 11:22anti -Semitism. This is not a good thing for
- 11:26this country or for any group. And to be sure,
- 11:31what Hamas did or what Hezbollah did was a war
- 11:35crime, and they should be prosecuted, and they
- 11:38are evil people. But we've taken that and...
- 11:43And Iran slaughtered all those students, tens
- 11:46of thousands. Right, yeah. Iran and the things
- 11:51that have been done in the Middle East. I hate
- 11:55saying both sides, but there is a reason for
- 11:59the retaliation. But the scale of the retaliation
- 12:03is far beyond. the evil that was done. And this
- 12:09is why we have diplomatic function, right? You
- 12:13don't bomb first and talk later. You have diplomats
- 12:16all over the world that are supposed to be talking.
- 12:19But this is what a king does. And we've discussed
- 12:23this before where it's just there's no there
- 12:28seems to be no controls on this administration
- 12:31because Congress isn't putting any controls on
- 12:34them. Republicans in Congress have decided that
- 12:38they're going to go all in for this. Except for
- 12:40Rand Paul. We're very proud of him. Rand Paul
- 12:43and Tom Massey. You have to give him credit.
- 12:46And I'm not going to even mention our Democratic
- 12:48representative because he's not worth mentioning.
- 12:52But there are people in the Republican Party
- 12:55who are very vocal about... Well, if you look
- 13:00at the right -wing media now, there's a huge
- 13:05amount of anti -Semitism in it. They're blaming
- 13:08Israel for everything. You know, it's like they're
- 13:13saying that our leaders are too stupid to think
- 13:15for themselves so they are influenced easily
- 13:18by another country. Right. Which, in the case
- 13:22of Donald Trump, is true because anything that
- 13:24Russia does is fine with him. Now we're going
- 13:28to go through this whole thing of people dying.
- 13:31And, you know, what is the reason for doing this?
- 13:35Why are we here? Why is he murdering children
- 13:37in other places? Could it possibly be because
- 13:41he raped children in this country? Oh, that's
- 13:44one of the things that Tom Massey pointed out.
- 13:46He said essentially in his announcement is that,
- 13:50yeah, you're bombing Iran, but that doesn't mean
- 13:53the Epstein files are going away. Trends that
- 13:57have gone on when the Epstein files first got
- 14:00a big interest and there were a lot of stories
- 14:03on it What did Trump do to respond to that? He
- 14:07invaded Venezuela, right? And we took out the
- 14:11president of Venezuela have no idea why we would
- 14:14did it But what we do for the oil for the oil
- 14:17always for the oil and so that happened Venezuela
- 14:22was in the news the media always like goes crazy
- 14:26when we start shooting things and so they went
- 14:29crazy for venezuela venezuela like was a story
- 14:32for a week and then it disappeared the epstein
- 14:35files came back and it came back in full fury
- 14:37because there are you know uh references to billionaires
- 14:44molesting children Donald Trump being among the
- 14:49child molesters. Donald Trump actually facilitating
- 14:53the molestation of children. And all that's in
- 14:57the Epstein files. Even in the redacted parts,
- 14:59that's what you get out of it, is that the current
- 15:02president of the United States was convicted
- 15:05felon, convicted rapist, or adjudicated rapist.
- 15:09He wasn't convicted because it was a civil suit
- 15:11that he lost. cronies, if you look at the list
- 15:18of people in the Epstein files, these are like
- 15:19the most powerful people in the world. It's like
- 15:23a Davos gathering of pedophiles. They're from
- 15:27all kinds, all walks of life, from the news media
- 15:31to the tech companies. people who have more money
- 15:40than god and because they have that much money
- 15:43they think they're god and they can get away
- 15:45with anything and so now we've got the epstein
- 15:48files another you know it's the iran war is all
- 15:53over the news once again yeah right so we we've
- 15:56lost the epstein files for temporarily right
- 15:59but although while we're spending about a billion
- 16:01dollars a day right so and the thing is that
- 16:05when you look at Everything we have to discuss,
- 16:11though, comes back to what does this mean for
- 16:13Kentucky or how does this affect the state? And,
- 16:16well, we've seen that the Republican candidates
- 16:22for the Senate, they're all in for anything that
- 16:26Donald Trump does. Nate Morris, Andy Barr, and
- 16:29David Cameron had a debate last week. The focus
- 16:33of the debate was... just the Trump administration.
- 16:38And you would think, given all the things that
- 16:42are happening now with the... Like being on the
- 16:44precipice of a third world war, possibly? Yeah,
- 16:47yeah. The possibility of a world war, the implications
- 16:52that it has for Kentuckians in general, because,
- 16:56was it Fort Campbell? Fort Campbell is in Kentucky,
- 17:00and that's where a lot of the coordination for
- 17:02the Iran war is being done, or where things are...
- 17:05where people are being shipped from. We have
- 17:08two Kentucky soldiers already dead from this.
- 17:14But the three men running for Mitch McConnell's
- 17:19Senate seat in the Republican primary, they...
- 17:22They had their debate last week, and they were
- 17:24all in on everything Donald Trump does. Which
- 17:27makes, Jesse, and I think that the polls are
- 17:29still showing that Trump is still extremely popular
- 17:32in this state. Right. You would think that if
- 17:35someone saw polling figures that said that, oh,
- 17:38this isn't going well, I mean, let's look at
- 17:40the reality of what's going on now. The Iran
- 17:44war is making gas prices shoot through the roof.
- 17:47That when gas prices go up or oil prices go up,
- 17:51that means that the residual effects are things
- 17:56like food prices will go up because farmers need
- 17:58to pay more for fuel or for the equipment that
- 18:02they use. Fertilizer is derived from petroleum.
- 18:06In fact, Kentucky today just... reported that
- 18:12gas prices in Kentucky are up 81 cents a gallon
- 18:16in one month. Right. This is significant. And
- 18:20if we remember, even if the Republican candidates
- 18:23remember, the reason that... The alleged reason
- 18:27people voted for Donald Trump in the last election
- 18:29was because he was going to bring prices down
- 18:32because, oh, that Joe Biden, he just made gas
- 18:34unaffordable. Or he's going to bring food prices
- 18:38down. Oh, that Joe Biden made eggs too expensive
- 18:40to buy. When you look at where we are now and
- 18:44the economy is worse now than it was during during
- 18:49the Biden administration. And this is Donald
- 18:51Trump's fault. And but but. We have a campaign.
- 18:56The Republicans for the U .S. Senate seat by
- 19:00Mitch McConnell have decided that they're still
- 19:02all in, even though Kentuckians are getting hurt
- 19:06even more by this. Kentuckians are dying because
- 19:09of this. And there doesn't seem to be any relief
- 19:13in sight because it's just going to keep going.
- 19:17Oh, and Jesse, you had another point that we
- 19:20discussed, which is... Oil, you know, the oil
- 19:24companies. Right. I think everyone knows this,
- 19:28or anyone can figure this out who has a brain,
- 19:30that when oil prices go that high, oil companies
- 19:34in the end of the quarter or the next quarter
- 19:36report record profits. And you can bet that oil
- 19:40companies are going to report record profits
- 19:42because the prices have gone up, even though
- 19:47the supply has been the same. The price has gone
- 19:49up. Now the supply is reduced. uh it's going
- 19:52to cost more and even if i would bet that even
- 19:55if nothing happened in terms of the fuel supply
- 19:58the prices would go up anyway because they have
- 20:00this fog of war that they can use as a justification
- 20:04for raising prices so you know go back to the
- 20:09kentucky economy the people in this state are
- 20:11not rich people and every time something happens
- 20:15on the international level There are implications
- 20:19for what it means for the people in Kentucky.
- 20:23And we are going to be suffering from this war
- 20:27because the costs are going to be continually
- 20:29climbing. Anyone who has a retirement fund, they're
- 20:34going to see their stock portfolio go down. And
- 20:38we're going to just have all kinds of really
- 20:43bad economic implications for this because...
- 20:47The bottom line is because Donald Trump is a
- 20:50child molester and the Republicans in this state
- 20:55aren't doing anything to deal with that fact
- 20:59other than Tom Massey. Speaking of an added impact
- 21:06on Kentuckians economically, we're still in the
- 21:13state legislative session, and we have this very
- 21:16austere budget that the Republicans are pushing
- 21:20through, which is... pretty much underfunding
- 21:24Medicaid by a billion and a half dollars. Which
- 21:29we have to go back to the fact that the war is
- 21:32costing a billion dollars a day. So they could
- 21:35cover the cost of Medicaid in a day and a half.
- 21:38Right. So, you know, health care, there are cuts
- 21:44to public education, to post -secondary education.
- 21:49school buses, just all kinds of cuts for everyday
- 21:54Kentuckians. There are also some really bad bills
- 21:59that have been introduced in this legislative
- 22:02session. One is Senate Bill 199, and it basically,
- 22:08it's about pesticides. And there are about 57
- 22:11,000 products that use really harmful pesticides
- 22:16that have had labels. that basically tell you
- 22:19what the harms of the pesticides are. And they're
- 22:22significant. Very many cancers, diabetes, all
- 22:27kinds of health problems, and now there's legislation
- 22:30that basically wants to eliminate and hiding
- 22:34from the Kentucky consumer the impacts of everyday
- 22:39household products on their own health. And another
- 22:43one that's really terrible for us is, and this
- 22:46is a direct result of Bobby Kennedy, right? Because
- 22:49he thinks fluoridation is evil the way that he
- 22:53thinks vaccines are evil. Yes, we're listening
- 22:56to a guy who used to sniff cocaine off a toilet
- 22:59seat. And he's telling us how to treat our health.
- 23:02But he's against fluoridation of water. And as
- 23:05you've said before, Kentucky has, what, the highest
- 23:08instance of? adult toothlessness and you know
- 23:12um so h house bill 103 and senate bill 55 um
- 23:18are are about removing fluoride from drinking
- 23:21water and this So we already have food costs
- 23:24that are high. We have gas costs that are high.
- 23:26Now it's going to make dental care more expensive
- 23:29because more people are going to have to go to
- 23:34the dentist because they don't have fluoride
- 23:36in their drinking water. And I read something
- 23:39that basically says it's going to cost us, you
- 23:43know, $20 million just for kids, the impact on
- 23:48kids. not having access to fluoridated water.
- 23:52And I'm a daughter of a periodontist, so I really
- 23:56understand the importance of oral health care.
- 24:00It leads to other problems when you don't have
- 24:03good oral hygiene, and having it in your drinking
- 24:06water is really important. So obviously, it's
- 24:09another example of Republicans, our super majority
- 24:14in Kentucky, not caring about our own consumers.
- 24:18Another horrible piece of legislation is State
- 24:21Bill 251. which basically means that execution
- 24:26protocols are going to be made secret, so we're
- 24:30not going to have any kind of understanding.
- 24:33Even the families of people that are about to
- 24:36be executed aren't going to understand it. And
- 24:39then State Bill 138 expands the death penalty.
- 24:42And we were reading articles that even if you
- 24:46don't, your actions don't lead to the death,
- 24:50say, from child abuse or something. and the child
- 24:53does not die, you could still be given the death
- 24:58penalty. If someone else is the person who killed
- 25:00the child, you could be included as a co -defendant
- 25:05and would be subject to the death penalty as
- 25:08well. And there are cases, I think there's some
- 25:11talk of women who have an abortion. Right, that
- 25:16was one of the things that they were talking
- 25:18about during the abortion debate was that if
- 25:20a woman or if a doctor aborted a fetus, then
- 25:24they should be subject to the death penalty.
- 25:27And speaking of health care, again, you know,
- 25:30reproductive freedom is a health care issue.
- 25:33And the government should not be legislating
- 25:36what women, what families decide about their
- 25:41health care. And we do want to lift up that the
- 25:44first Republican official In Kentucky showed
- 25:49up at a Planned Parenthood event and that was
- 25:52representative Vanessa Gross of Georgetown and
- 25:57she basically reiterated that these are health
- 26:01care decisions and they should be left to the
- 26:03families. It should not be government. And that
- 26:06is kind of a Republican, I mean, historically
- 26:09that would be a Republican point, right? Or a
- 26:12more libertarian point. Individual responsibility
- 26:15as opposed to relying on the government to tell
- 26:17you what to do. But this government wants to
- 26:21control our thoughts. It wants to control everything
- 26:24we do, our bodies. And, you know, It wants to
- 26:28control who does what in this country, what people
- 26:33deserve the protections of the government. And
- 26:37it turns out that they are the MAGA base, or
- 26:41as I like to call them, Trumps for Trump. They
- 26:45just only care about what the MAGA people want,
- 26:49even though they're doing everything the MAGA
- 26:52people don't want, and even though, especially
- 26:54when you talk about health care. We've emphasized
- 26:57this many times on this podcast, but Kentuckians
- 27:01have horrible life expectancy. I was looking
- 27:05at a map of life expectancy in Canada and the
- 27:09United States by states and provinces. And as
- 27:13usual, it's the loser for our Kentucky. West
- 27:20Virginia, Alabama, and Mississippi. They have
- 27:24the lowest life expectancy in the United States,
- 27:27I think. Life expectancy in Kentucky is maybe
- 27:3071 years, while the life expectancy in California
- 27:34is 83 years. Laura, if you want to go closer,
- 27:38if you go to Illinois, I think it's probably
- 27:4080 years. And even Tennessee is five years more
- 27:44than us, 76. And Indiana, just north of us, is
- 27:4877. That's six more years life expectancy right
- 27:51across the river. So this is a direct... It is
- 27:57causal from terrible public policy, terrible
- 28:02public policy, terrible voting for people that
- 28:07are killing us and reducing our lives by years.
- 28:12They're killing us. They're reducing our life
- 28:15expectancy. They're taking money away from us.
- 28:17They're making it harder for us. To get education,
- 28:19to get health care. There's like this attack
- 28:23on the education system. There's an attack. by
- 28:26Republicans, I have to emphasize this, because
- 28:28the Republicans are the super majority in the
- 28:31Kentucky legislature, and they're introducing
- 28:34all these laws that make no sense at all. I think
- 28:37there was, you were talking about the death penalty,
- 28:39and I think I read where when they introduced
- 28:42the bill, someone said, one of the sponsors or
- 28:45one of the people, Republicans voting for it,
- 28:47said, well, this bill has problems and that will
- 28:50have to work out. And I'm thinking, Why are you
- 28:53introducing legislation when you know it has
- 28:55problems, and you're going to actually create
- 29:00a law that's going to kill people, but you know
- 29:03that there's problems with the bill, so you're
- 29:05not going to deal with it before you even introduce
- 29:07the bill? I think that's stupid legislative policy.
- 29:11It is. My career has been in economic development
- 29:16for low -income people. When you look at economic
- 29:21development and all the work that we have to
- 29:23do to attract companies to the state, these are
- 29:26exactly the opposite things that you should be
- 29:28doing to attract companies to come to Kentucky.
- 29:33They want good education. They want good health
- 29:36care. In fact, the state legislature just overrode
- 29:40Andy Beshear, our governor's veto of House Bill
- 29:441. Because they want public school dollars. They
- 29:49want the federal tax credit that comes from the
- 29:51awful, what was it called? The big, beautiful
- 29:53bullshit bill. Bullshit bill, right. So now what's
- 29:57going to happen with their override of the veto
- 29:59is that public dollars are going to go, leave
- 30:03public education and go to charter schools and
- 30:06private schools. Right, which is charter schools
- 30:11and private schools are... essentially a racial
- 30:14thing because the rise in private schools, it's
- 30:19like a historical development where when Brown
- 30:22versus Board of Education was passed in the 1950s,
- 30:25white people started taking their kids out of
- 30:27public school and creating these private schools,
- 30:29not because they were looking for better schools,
- 30:31but because they didn't want their kids going
- 30:32to school with black children. And now that's
- 30:35sort of like, it's not. outwardly stated but
- 30:40it's really implied in everything they do because
- 30:43that's what it's designed for and we're in we're
- 30:47just in dire straits here because it it only
- 30:50gets worse and you know there are there's a reason
- 30:54why oh well the thing about the legislature too
- 30:58when we're talking about the budget they're not
- 31:00spending all the money in the budget right they're
- 31:02like it's an austere budget yeah why why is there
- 31:04an austere budget in an economic downturn and
- 31:08As much as they hate Joe Biden, what Joe Biden
- 31:11showed in his administration was if the economy
- 31:14is in bad shape, you use the government to create
- 31:17jobs, to put more money into the system. That
- 31:20gets people jobs. That means that people are
- 31:23spending money, which means that the store owners
- 31:27are making money. You just don't put money in
- 31:32this. We're going to hold it for a rainy day.
- 31:35We're in a tornado. And we're saving money for
- 31:39a rainy day. That's just stupidity on the part
- 31:42of the Republicans in the Kentucky legislature.
- 31:44It's harmful. They're harming Kentuckians. They've
- 31:47harmed Kentuckians for decades. And we're really
- 31:51just trying to... shine the light on this so
- 31:54that you understand the impacts of terrible Republican
- 31:57policy. Right. And the unfortunate thing here,
- 32:01too, is if we go back to the debate by the senators,
- 32:03they are all in on these tactics. You get what
- 32:09you're going for? As Amy said, this means that
- 32:13they have looked at the polling data, and the
- 32:15polling data is telling them that Donald Trump
- 32:17is still popular in the country and in this state.
- 32:22They're not going to do anything to... Actually,
- 32:26it'll be interesting to see what happens with
- 32:27Massey because the primaries are next week? No,
- 32:32they're in May. And Massey's... Donald Trump
- 32:36came into town in one of his stupid events, his
- 32:41MAGA events where he proceeded to lie about everything.
- 32:46He... He endorsed Jake Paul, this media guy who's
- 32:51an internet influencer who's not running for
- 32:54office at all. But Donald Trump gave him an endorsement.
- 32:57I think the biggest thing Jake Paul did recently
- 32:59was had a fight with Mike Tyson, like this stage
- 33:03fight with Mike Tyson. Trump, of course, he came
- 33:08and said bad things about Massey. Massey also
- 33:13noted that Trump's people tried to hire Massey's
- 33:18staff to delay the efforts on the Epstein files.
- 33:27But he didn't talk about, you know, he said...
- 33:33just uses his normal word salad. He's not...
- 33:38This is trickle -down corruption. We have corruption.
- 33:42I don't know, Jesse, that in the history, in
- 33:45the 250 years of America, that we've had corruption
- 33:50to the levels that it is. We've had corruption
- 33:53in the past, but it was prosecuted. You look
- 33:57at the Watergate issue, that was like the president
- 34:00abusing power. Right, robber barons. Yeah, the
- 34:03robber barons, the whole, what was it, the Harding
- 34:06administration back in the early 20th century.
- 34:09So yes, we've had corruption, and there was this
- 34:13idea that the people who were corrupt would be
- 34:18held accountable for their crimes. and this administration
- 34:22does not want to be held accountable for any
- 34:24of its crimes um and it got the supreme court
- 34:28to back up a lot of stuff that trump is doing
- 34:31because Let's talk about the Senate campaign.
- 34:34Again, this is Mitch McConnell's fault. Mitch
- 34:37McConnell is the reason that the Supreme Court
- 34:38is the way it is. And he will go down in history
- 34:42as one of the worst majority leaders ever. And
- 34:46he was majority leader for a very long time.
- 34:48But what he did was to undermine everything we
- 34:51stood for. When Mitch McConnell died, he'll get
- 34:56the usual eulogies and say what a great American
- 34:59he was and all this other stuff. But bottom line
- 35:02is everything he's done has destroyed the American
- 35:08system. Plus, you know, he represents Kentucky.
- 35:13You would think maybe our life expectancy might
- 35:17be a little higher. Right? The Senate leader.
- 35:21Right, the most powerful person in the Senate.
- 35:23And this isn't, not to be, I'm not going to,
- 35:28what's the word, underplay his responsibility
- 35:32for this because he's probably one of the most
- 35:34effective Senate leaders ever in that he got
- 35:39what he wanted done, done. And the fact that
- 35:42what he got done hurts his state and the people
- 35:47kept voting for him. just shows that there is
- 35:50an issue with the education of the Kentucky voter,
- 35:54I think. Well, and, you know, Jesse, I go to
- 35:57Fox News every two to three days just to see
- 35:59what's going on there. And we talked about this.
- 36:02If you look at Fox News and that's where you
- 36:05get your information, it will not know reality.
- 36:10You will not know why your gas prices are going
- 36:14up. You will not know why your food is so expensive.
- 36:17You will not know why your hospital closed. You
- 36:19will not know that. Right, yeah. Fox News, I
- 36:22actually looked at their site this week because
- 36:24I don't look at the site. And everything I saw
- 36:27as a headline was... it really was like another
- 36:31language. You know, it's like, do I need a translator
- 36:35for this? To me, it's kind of like the National
- 36:37Enquirer. Oh, I think the Enquirer has more integrity
- 36:41than Fox News, because at least I knew someone
- 36:45who worked at the National Enquirer, and I talked
- 36:47to them years ago, and they said the way they
- 36:51came up with stories at the National Enquirer
- 36:53was that... they the editor top editor would
- 36:56say okay people create a list of story ideas
- 36:59it doesn't have to be real or anything just make
- 37:01up this list of story ideas and let's see which
- 37:04one like will resonate as an idea. And then let's
- 37:10write something, even if we can't prove it, let's
- 37:12write something that says that this is proof.
- 37:14And one of the things that I remember, one of
- 37:17them was the issue of the importance of red meat.
- 37:20You know, like red meat makes you live longer,
- 37:23that kind of thing. Or, you know, you just create
- 37:26these things. If you have a great paragraph,
- 37:30that's going to be the National Enquirer. Fox
- 37:33News doesn't even... involve a great paragraph.
- 37:35What they do is they listen to whatever the White
- 37:37House says, and then they regurgitate it like
- 37:41a bird vomiting the food into its baby's mouth.
- 37:51That's what they're doing. They're vomiting garbage
- 37:53into the minds of the Fox News people. And why
- 37:57is that? Money, money, money, money, money, money?
- 38:00Well, yeah, it's all about the money. Yeah, Rupert
- 38:02Murdoch. If Rupert Murdoch thought that being
- 38:04a liberal network would make him money, he would
- 38:06do that. And, but, you know. And that's the same
- 38:12thing about this king. It's all about the money.
- 38:15I can't imagine how much money his family has
- 38:18made by bombing Iran. Well, you've seen the stories
- 38:21that Jared Kushner was the one who convinced
- 38:23Trump to bomb Iran while he was seeking money
- 38:27from Mideast investors. That is a crime. That's
- 38:32a crime. That's obviously a crime, but then raping
- 38:37children is a crime, and no one's being held
- 38:39accountable for that other than Ghislaine Maxwell,
- 38:43and she's threatening to reveal all if Trump
- 38:48doesn't give her a pardon. She got moved from
- 38:52a real prison to a minimum security country club.
- 38:55Right. So you have the executive branch that's
- 38:57completely out of control and above the law,
- 39:00or thinks they're above the law. You have the
- 39:02legislative branch ruled by Republicans, completely
- 39:07in lockstep. and not taking their responsibility
- 39:11seriously. Then, back to Mitch McConnell, you
- 39:15have the judiciary. And his big legacy is, you
- 39:19know, the fact that Trump got three appointees
- 39:22on the Supreme Court. Two of which he shouldn't
- 39:25have got. Right. And when Obama was president,
- 39:28Mitch... made sure that everything was stalled
- 39:34about major judicial appointments, federal judicial
- 39:37appointments that had to happen. He stalled everything
- 39:40so that it's now been stacked. I mean, these
- 39:44are lifetime appointments. Isn't that how, what
- 39:46was it, when Merrick Garland didn't get the nomination?
- 39:50That's right. Who did they, was it? Kavanaugh
- 39:53or I forget which justice, maybe it was Alito
- 39:56or Kavanaugh, but they didn't Merrick Garland,
- 40:00who we must say was not a good attorney general
- 40:03under the Biden administration because he had
- 40:05all this information on the Epstein files and
- 40:08didn't do anything with it. But, you know, that's
- 40:12that is what Mitch did. He created a Supreme
- 40:15Court majority with six to three where. Anything
- 40:20the Trump administration wants, they get. And
- 40:22if the Trump administration commits crimes, they've
- 40:25given him an out, saying that it's executive
- 40:28privilege or whatever. So we've got all our branches
- 40:32of government are in desperate straits right
- 40:36now. We're looking forward to the midterms, but
- 40:40we've heard the things where Trump says that
- 40:43he might decide to cancel the elections, which
- 40:46he can't do. If you're a Fox News viewer, you
- 40:50don't know that. You think that, oh, the other
- 40:54thing about the Iran war is that if we're still
- 40:59fighting two years from now, which would be horrible,
- 41:02but if we're still there, he's going to say something
- 41:06like, oh, the war effort is in a very delicate
- 41:09situation now, so we're going to have to cancel
- 41:11elections this year. And why would he do that?
- 41:15Because he knows that if the Democrats take over,
- 41:18he and his administration will be impeached.
- 41:23But the thing is that they need, what, two -thirds
- 41:26or more to impeach the president. And it didn't
- 41:31go well last time because Mitch McConnell didn't
- 41:34impeach him because he was saying the Democrats
- 41:36would take care of it. Oh, and we didn't talk
- 41:40about the fact that it's tax season right now.
- 41:43Oh, right. And there are implications on elections
- 41:46about that. Why don't you talk about what's happening
- 41:48right now during the tax season? Well, there
- 41:51are a couple of things that the Kentucky Department
- 41:53of Revenue sent out probably a couple of days
- 41:57ago. Under the headline, two national changes
- 42:01may affect your 2026 tax filings and returns.
- 42:05And one is... You know how when you go to the
- 42:08post office, you want to make sure that you get
- 42:10there on the right day because they have to stamp
- 42:13your return. Postmark, yeah. Postmark your return.
- 42:17On April 15th. By April 15th. Now, the Department
- 42:23of Revenue, the State Department of Revenue says
- 42:24that because of federal government changes, postmarks
- 42:27might not reflect the date you drop off your
- 42:30mail at your local post office. So it's saying
- 42:33you should file electronically. get a manual
- 42:36postmark at the post office counter or mail early
- 42:39so that's that's one thing the other thing is
- 42:43let's say you file electronically so you're doing
- 42:46electronic uh filing you ask for a direct deposit
- 42:50of your funds on april 1st if the name on your
- 42:55tax return doesn't match the name on your bank
- 42:57account you won't get a direct deposit refund
- 43:00you'll get a check they're going to mail a paper
- 43:04check which makes no sense at all because if
- 43:07you're putting all the direct deposit information
- 43:09and that means you're putting in your routing
- 43:10number and your account number and that's distinctive
- 43:16to you and you would be the one to know that
- 43:19uh and let's say for example um you got married
- 43:25and you have you had your maiden name on your
- 43:29On your bank account. Right, on your bank account.
- 43:32But on your filing, you're filing under your
- 43:35married name. Right. That means that you're not
- 43:38going to get your return or your refund electronically.
- 43:42They're going to send it through the mail. The
- 43:45advantage for the government in sending it through
- 43:47the mail is that the money doesn't immediately
- 43:49come out of the account, so they can collect
- 43:51interest on that. And since it takes days, an
- 43:55electronic transfer... Electronic transfers,
- 43:58like immediate mail, could take days or weeks.
- 44:02This is fraud. Yeah. And I have a very close
- 44:05friend. I was just actually with her. vacation
- 44:08and she moved and she does not have a permanent
- 44:11address right now and so she has to do all this
- 44:15extra work now to get this direct deposit thing
- 44:17worked out she can't do it she will not be able
- 44:20to do it and so she's very stressed out because
- 44:23she's owed you know several hundred dollars of
- 44:26tax refund well that's that's that's nice because
- 44:31my I did my return and I was at the point where
- 44:36when I was about to complete it, I was either
- 44:40going to get a whole lot of money back or I was
- 44:44going to have to pay a whole lot of money to
- 44:46the government because I had some confusion with
- 44:50one of my tax forms. And I talked to my financial
- 44:53advisor and it turns out I owe a lot of money
- 44:55to the government. It's that kind of thing where
- 44:59I would want to file electronically because it's
- 45:02so complicated and I want to get it out of the
- 45:04way. But now the federal government has created
- 45:09this problem where your tax money is going to
- 45:12be lingering again, which means that the government
- 45:15is going to be collecting interest on your money
- 45:17again. It doesn't make any sense. And also, with
- 45:23the technological advances and the efficiencies
- 45:26and the fact that the government has fired so
- 45:28many people in the federal government, the IRS,
- 45:30etc., it makes absolutely no sense except for
- 45:35fraud. And this has an impact on elections coming
- 45:39up, too. Well, of course, the SAVE Act, which
- 45:43we hope is not going to pass, but women who've
- 45:46changed their name might not even be able to
- 45:48vote, as well as people who can't. produce an
- 45:51id it's more than an id right and the thing about
- 45:55the save act and since we we've talked about
- 45:58this before but the the point of the save act
- 46:01is to make sure that voters are voting legally
- 46:04because we we have this uh these just debates
- 46:09on voter fraud and the um the republicans are
- 46:13making this pretending that voter fraud is a
- 46:17real issue and saying that all these illegal
- 46:19immigrants are voting, you know, and it's just
- 46:23undermining our election system. Now, the Heritage
- 46:27Foundation, which is the conservative... think
- 46:29tank which is responsible for that project 25
- 46:32yeah project 2024 25 what okay responsible for
- 46:37that and they're also very influential in the
- 46:39trump administration they did a study of voter
- 46:43fraud and quick bottom line is that over like
- 46:50decades over two billion votes the number of
- 46:55immigrants illegal immigrants casting votes was
- 46:59under 90. So that's not an issue. It's not an
- 47:03issue, but places like Fox News and the Republicans
- 47:07in the legislature and the Republicans on the
- 47:11federal and on the state level say that this
- 47:13is a huge issue, that all these foreigners are
- 47:16coming in and they're influencing our elections.
- 47:18Well, they're not. It's another example of this
- 47:22deflection, of this transference. They're committing
- 47:25fraud at our top levels of government, and they're
- 47:30blaming fraud on immigrants, on brown -skinned
- 47:33people, right, where it doesn't exist. Not to
- 47:38mention the fact that we have over 1 ,000 people
- 47:42that have been taken from ICE. Right. all over
- 47:45the country, in Kentucky. Right. And I'm part
- 47:48of this community defense network with Surge,
- 47:52L -Surge, that I've talked about before. We are
- 47:55going to prisons. In Kentucky, where people are
- 48:00being dumped, they don't have a charged phone,
- 48:03they don't have any money, and their family doesn't
- 48:06even know where they are. And we are driving
- 48:10them back to their place of origin, which many
- 48:14times is not in Kentucky. It's all over the country
- 48:16now. They're being dumped here because we're
- 48:19a red state, and a lot of the blue states aren't
- 48:21allowing this to happen. Meanwhile, people who
- 48:24voted for Trump, you know, now don't want...
- 48:27detention facilities built in their backyard.
- 48:30So there's nimby about the construction of these
- 48:33detention facilities in very red areas. Well,
- 48:36those very red areas then deserve to have those
- 48:39detention areas there because they voted for
- 48:42it. And they can't say that. It's like, we don't
- 48:47want these people in the country, so we want
- 48:51you to arrest them. We don't want you to arrest
- 48:54them in our areas because we don't want to deal
- 48:56with them. Well, honestly, you know, as a Jewish
- 48:58person, it reminds me of concentration camps.
- 49:01They are concentration camps. Right. And people
- 49:03smelled the cremations of bodies. It was in their
- 49:08backyards. And, you know, okay, so you have half
- 49:11the men in the country, white men or whatever,
- 49:13that don't believe in the Holocaust. But nevertheless,
- 49:17let's talk about, like... This crazy weather
- 49:19we've had. Okay, yeah. I mean, a couple of days
- 49:22ago, I'm, like, walking around the city. I took,
- 49:26like, a seven -mile walk this past weekend. I
- 49:29took another six -mile walk a couple of days
- 49:32ago. 76 degrees. Yeah, and so that happens, and
- 49:39then the next day it's 20 degrees, and we're
- 49:42in this. very weird weather cycle where, you
- 49:46know, it's going to be in the 80s at the end
- 49:49of this week here, but it's like 20 degrees today
- 49:52and it was like 80 degrees this past weekend.
- 49:55But there's no such thing as climate change because
- 49:57if you're a Republican or a Fox News viewer,
- 50:00it's all a hoax. People don't understand that
- 50:03these extreme weather events are a result of
- 50:06climate change. And Jesse, you were talking about
- 50:10other states. You were talking about tornadoes
- 50:12in New Jersey. Tornadoes in New Jersey. Arizona
- 50:16and Phoenix this week, they're expecting the
- 50:20temperature to be above 100 degrees every day
- 50:23this week. In San Francisco, which is where I
- 50:26was the past couple of years. Where you wear
- 50:29layers every day of the year. Yeah, layers upon
- 50:33layers. They're talking about temperatures going
- 50:36up to the 80s and 90s, while the rest of the
- 50:39country is in this frostbite atmosphere, and
- 50:42then it's all going to change in a couple of
- 50:45days. And, you know, again, it's this idea that
- 50:49the ignorance induced on the American people
- 50:53by right -wing media is just... It's making everyone's
- 50:58life more miserable. And Republicans that are
- 51:00so -called representing their constituents. Yeah,
- 51:02they don't represent their constituents. They're
- 51:04representing the moneyed interest. And I have
- 51:08to say that there are Democrats who do the same
- 51:10thing on other levels. But when you're running
- 51:17on this campaign that's supposed to be America
- 51:22first and all this other stuff, you... would
- 51:26think that you would be trying to make lives
- 51:29better for your constituents so they would keep
- 51:31voting for you. Instead, what the Republicans
- 51:34seem to be doing is they're making life more
- 51:37difficult so people will die having fewer voters.
- 51:41And maybe they think that's the strategy, kill
- 51:43off their constituents. But they're also creating
- 51:47all these enemies all across the world, too.
- 51:50You know, when Trump thought that Europe and
- 51:54these other countries are going to help us out
- 51:56with this. What is it, the Strait of Hormuz?
- 51:58No, they're not. Because it's like you broke
- 52:01it, you bought it. That's basic economics. And
- 52:06the fact that they're upset that people aren't
- 52:10like immediately falling into line because they
- 52:14did something stupid on the international level
- 52:16is just, well, it's typical of this administration
- 52:20and everybody in it. And we have to, you know,
- 52:25we're looking, I worry about, you know, the midterms,
- 52:29but the trends have been that when Democrats
- 52:33are running against Republicans in elections,
- 52:35special elections that have been held already,
- 52:37they are kicking ass. They're just like, if Trump
- 52:41won a Republican district by 20 points, those
- 52:45districts are now... going 10 points to the Democrats.
- 52:49The governor of New Jersey is an example. Virginia
- 52:54changed governors. Texas. The only place that
- 53:00I can't think of having that happen is Kentucky.
- 53:04Right. So we really need to have something to
- 53:09educate our populace, and we have no outlets
- 53:12that... And we know that these rallies are going
- 53:16to be very underreported by all the mainstream
- 53:19media outlets. And the numbers of the participants
- 53:23will be way undercounted because what they do
- 53:27is they send someone out before the rally begins.
- 53:30They take photos of no one there and then go
- 53:36off, write their stories. In the meantime, thousands
- 53:39of people show up. And it's like you read the
- 53:42story the next day, and it's like dozens of participants
- 53:45took place in this rally. Jesse, what was the
- 53:53percentage? Is it 2 .5 %? If 2 .5 % of the people
- 53:57show up at these rallies, you're seeing a tipping
- 54:01point. I thought it was like 3%. 3 %? Yeah. Amy's
- 54:05prediction is that we're going to get there on
- 54:08March 28th. I would be interested to see that
- 54:11because it's now I think, you know, I think the
- 54:15difference now is that the usual suspects were
- 54:21at the rallies before people who like have always
- 54:25known what Trump was about and who realized that
- 54:28he was a danger to the country. The MAGA people
- 54:31are starting to come around because people like
- 54:34Marjorie Taylor Greene are now, you know. criticizing
- 54:37him for falling for the, again, they're going
- 54:42into the anti -Semitism and blaming Trump's invasion
- 54:44of Iran on Jewish interest when it's actually,
- 54:49Trump is making money. Trump is making money.
- 54:52His sons are making money because they've taken
- 54:57interest in defense contractors. Jared Kushner
- 55:01is... getting billions of dollars from Middle
- 55:04Eastern potentates. And he was the one who convinced
- 55:11Trump to go into the war. Trump doesn't think.
- 55:14Trump is just like, what's going to happen? If
- 55:17I want Cuba, I'm going to take Cuba. If I want
- 55:20Greenland, I'm going to take Greenland. So we
- 55:22have Venezuela. We have Iran. We have the talk
- 55:29about Cuba. We have the talk about Gaza. He wants
- 55:32to build a resort on Gaza. He's already, you
- 55:36know, everything he touches turns to crap. So
- 55:39he's exactly the wrong kind of king. We want
- 55:41them to turn him over. He's the Republican Midas.
- 55:45Everything he touches turns to crap. And I want
- 55:49to pivot. It is Women's History Month. And as
- 55:53a woman, I've been enjoying certain things. Like,
- 55:58for example, Louisville Public Media, every single
- 56:00day on WFPK, they're featuring a woman. Musician
- 56:05every day of the month which has been really
- 56:07fun to listen to but you have something that
- 56:09really galls me to report and It just makes me
- 56:13so pissed off about the Courier -Journal and
- 56:15their section on March Madness. Oh, yeah, this
- 56:18weekend. The Courier -Journal ran a section.
- 56:21It was their Sunday huddle. The headline is,
- 56:27Let the Madness Begin. So they talk about the
- 56:29term brackets. College basketball, by the way.
- 56:33Yeah, the NCAA basketball tournament. It's an
- 56:37eight -page section. Eight pages. Eight pages.
- 56:41This past weekend, the brackets were announced
- 56:46for the men's and women's tournaments, basketball
- 56:50tournaments. The Louisville men are sixth seed
- 56:55in the tournament, sixth seed which means that
- 56:57they're in trouble. The Louisville women are
- 57:00a three seed in the tournament, and they're going
- 57:03to be hosting games here next weekend, beginning
- 57:07this coming weekend. And you're going to be there.
- 57:09Yeah, I already got my tickets. And so I open
- 57:14up the section, and I'm looking at it, and I'm
- 57:16thinking, okay, now where's the information on
- 57:18the women's schedule? There is nothing in the
- 57:21whole section about the women. Zero. Eight pages.
- 57:24Zero on the women's basketball team. It's infuriating.
- 57:28In terms of national ranking, it's a better team
- 57:31than the men's team. It has a good chance of
- 57:37going far into the tournament, and they've had
- 57:39a history of doing that. The men's team has sucked
- 57:42for a long time, just for years. Zero. Just not
- 57:49a word on the women's team. The fact that they're
- 57:53considered a major factor in the women's tournament.
- 57:56The fact that they're going to be hosting games
- 57:59for this tournament. And not a word. So what
- 58:04the fuck? What is this? Well, it brings me back
- 58:07to the Olympics when the hockey team, the men's
- 58:10hockey team, won a gold medal. The women's hockey
- 58:14team won a gold medal. This pedophile in chief
- 58:18calls up the men's team, jokes that, oh, because
- 58:23the women won, I guess I have to invite them
- 58:25too. Well, and the DOJ guy, what's the guy's
- 58:28name? He was in the locker room with them. No,
- 58:30it wasn't the DOJ. It was the attorney general.
- 58:32Oh, the attorney general. Exactly. Yeah, the
- 58:33attorney general was there, like, shaking Kash
- 58:37Patel, shaking beer bottles, you know, doing
- 58:40the, you know, all that bullshit kind of stuff.
- 58:44And so. The women essentially say, look, we're
- 58:49not going. We don't care. You know, you guys
- 58:51suck. We don't want to go. The men's team goes.
- 58:55And, you know, they do. There's something about
- 58:59men's sports where they have to consider that
- 59:02they look bad when they do certain things. And
- 59:05the men's team went to the White House. They
- 59:07laughed at Trump's joke when he talked about
- 59:09women. They partied with Kash Patel. They go
- 59:13to the White House and Trump serves them McDonald's.
- 59:16That was their meal. The White House meal was
- 59:19McDonald's. The women's team, which didn't go
- 59:22to the White House, they were taken out to a
- 59:25nice Italian restaurant by... Who's the actor
- 59:29who's in The Hunger Games? I forget his name.
- 59:34But anyway, this actor, he treated them to this
- 59:40really... fancy meal in Italy. Was it Stanley
- 59:43Tucci? Stanley Tucci, yeah. That was the person
- 59:47who took them out. So the women had a better
- 59:49experience from winning. The women who were better
- 59:53at their sport than the men are better at their
- 59:57sport. The women have won the gold medal in hockey,
- 1:00:02ice hockey, numerous times. The men haven't won
- 1:00:05since. what was it, the miracle in the 1980s
- 1:00:09where they beat the Russians? But this concept
- 1:00:13that the men's sports are more important than
- 1:00:16women's sports is just really, you know. The
- 1:00:19sexism, the racism. It's sexism, it's racism,
- 1:00:23it's, you know, anything where, again, where
- 1:00:29white men aren't dominant is. Underplate and
- 1:00:34I am pissed off at the Courier -Journal for the
- 1:00:37fact that they They have one of the best women's
- 1:00:41basketball teams in the country, and they spend
- 1:00:44the whole section on a mediocre men's team. You
- 1:00:47should write a letter to the editor, Jesse. There's
- 1:00:49no point in writing to them because, you know,
- 1:00:51it's like I'll write my letter. They'll have
- 1:00:53a letter to balance it out saying, oh, men are
- 1:00:56more important than women, and that's the way
- 1:00:58it should be because that's what the Bible says.
- 1:01:00So, you know, I'm pissed off at that. But I'm
- 1:01:04going to the games this weekend. I'm looking
- 1:01:07forward to them. I think the women's basketball
- 1:01:12team is better than the men's basketball team,
- 1:01:14aren't they? They're both in the tournament as
- 1:01:16well. The women's team beat the Louisville team
- 1:01:22earlier this year because I was at the game.
- 1:01:24Very disappointing. Louisville lost by 10 points.
- 1:01:28But the Kentucky women's team, I think they're
- 1:01:32probably ranked higher than the men's team. I'll
- 1:01:33have to look that up. Anyway, it's just this
- 1:01:37consistent sexism. For some reason, it made me
- 1:01:45think of when Donald Trump was here and doing
- 1:01:48his rally in, was it Hebron, Kentucky. And given
- 1:01:54that he didn't address the war, He talked about
- 1:01:58Tom Massey being a bad congressman. He's endorsing
- 1:02:03Jake Paul for no apparent reason. And he starts
- 1:02:07talking about trans athletes. Meanwhile, trans
- 1:02:12people can't have a driver's license in Kansas
- 1:02:15now. And you have a trans legislator who is now
- 1:02:19having to walk to work during the legislative
- 1:02:21session because she can't drive. Right. It's,
- 1:02:24you know, there's just this. We've got to turn
- 1:02:27this around, people. You've got to show up at
- 1:02:29these rallies. You've got to use your Five Calls
- 1:02:31app, make your calls. We've got to participate
- 1:02:34in our democracy. Right. We're taking too much
- 1:02:38for granted these days. And we just think, and
- 1:02:42I see this just looking at media in general.
- 1:02:46When I look at the news, we had the Academy Awards
- 1:02:52this past weekend, and I'm watching the Oscars.
- 1:02:55And the biggest story that I can remember coming
- 1:02:58out of the Oscars was the fact that Timothee
- 1:03:00Chalamet said that opera was boring or not relevant.
- 1:03:06Tons of issues. So many pressing issues. Tons
- 1:03:08of issues that are more important than that.
- 1:03:10But that's what the mainstream media focus was
- 1:03:15on. Although I do want to highlight that the
- 1:03:17first female choreographer to win. Cinematographer.
- 1:03:21Cinematographer to win the award. And she was,
- 1:03:25she's Polynesian, part Polynesian, part African
- 1:03:28American. I thought it was Filipina. A woman
- 1:03:29of color, Filipina. Woman of Color won, and she
- 1:03:33did a great job, and definitely go see Sinners.
- 1:03:36It was great. Michael B. Jordan plays two characters.
- 1:03:39I don't know how they do things like that, but
- 1:03:40he did a great job, and he won Best Actor. Right,
- 1:03:43yeah. And Jessie Buckley won Best Actress, and
- 1:03:47she was awesome in Hamnet. If you haven't seen
- 1:03:49Hamnet, you've got to see her performance. Unbelievable.
- 1:03:53So good. There are so many movies. We were discussing
- 1:03:57this earlier, and I haven't watched the Academy
- 1:03:59Awards. since before my son was married, and
- 1:04:03that was at least seven years ago. I did notice
- 1:04:09how they really danced around the tragedy that
- 1:04:12is what's unfolding in our country and internationally.
- 1:04:15There was a lot of dancing around it. Well, everyone's
- 1:04:19afraid because we have the FCC saying that they're
- 1:04:21going to take away licenses. They've already
- 1:04:24tried to silence Colbert and Kimmel. It's just,
- 1:04:29you know, there is this surge of oppression going
- 1:04:33on in the country that we're not dealing with,
- 1:04:37that we're not paying attention to. And again,
- 1:04:40if you're watching Fox News, you don't know what's
- 1:04:42going on. And you never knew what was going on
- 1:04:45because Fox News has always been a lie. It always
- 1:04:50lies. So that's where we are now. And what else
- 1:04:56do we have? Nothing. That's it, unless you want
- 1:04:59to talk about the bridge. Oh, yes, there's just
- 1:05:01one quick thing. Andy Beshear announced that
- 1:05:05a bridge is being built from, what was it, between...
- 1:05:08Is it Covington and Cincinnati? It's going from
- 1:05:11Kentucky to Cincinnati. The Brent Spence Bridge.
- 1:05:16Right. Which is really needed. Yeah, so there
- 1:05:21are currently two bridges going from Kentucky
- 1:05:24to Cincinnati. One of them is the one that has
- 1:05:29the interstate going on. The new bridge, I don't
- 1:05:33know when it's going to be done, but it's a project,
- 1:05:35which means that people will be getting jobs.
- 1:05:38But there will probably be Ohio jobs as well
- 1:05:40as Kentucky jobs. But there is another bridge
- 1:05:43in Cincinnati that I've walked across many times.
- 1:05:48It's called the John Roebling Bridge. goes from
- 1:05:53Covington to all the ballparks there. I went
- 1:05:56over there when I went to the Bengals game several
- 1:05:59months ago. And one of the things about the Roebling
- 1:06:04Bridge is my daughter -in -law's father is an
- 1:06:07engineer. And every time we go to the bridge,
- 1:06:10he points out that it was built by the same guy
- 1:06:13who built the Brooklyn Bridge. And if you go
- 1:06:15to there, if you go to the bridge and you look
- 1:06:17at it, You see that, yes, that definitely is
- 1:06:21the same design. And you are from Brooklyn. I'm
- 1:06:24from Brooklyn. When I worked on Wall Street,
- 1:06:26I would walk over the Brooklyn Bridge during
- 1:06:27lunch many, many times. Fabulous bridge. It's
- 1:06:31a great bridge to walk over, but it gets very
- 1:06:33crowded on nice days. It's probably not crowded
- 1:06:37today because it's freezing in New York. I think
- 1:06:39there's snow there. But if you go to New York,
- 1:06:42walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. It's fun. Bike
- 1:06:47across the Manhattan Bridge. I biked across Brooklyn
- 1:06:49and the Manhattan Bridges. Manhattan's a better
- 1:06:52bridge because it has less foot traffic. So just
- 1:06:55little things. And I think we will wrap it up
- 1:07:00with that. Thanks, everybody. Get out there on
- 1:07:02March 28th. Right. A reminder, go to the rally.
- 1:07:06We have No Kings in America. And I will put links
- 1:07:11to things in our podcast notes. So until the
- 1:07:16next time, see you all later. See ya. Our closing
- 1:07:22music is by John Chamberlain.
