Speaker 2: Is there such thing as a good Monday morning? I
• 1:26
Speaker 2: don't know that there is, but anyway, we're here. Metro

Speaker 2: Tomorrow sunny, bit warmer, sly chance of a shower highs
• 1:41
Speaker 2: in the upper eighties and a better chance of showers
• 1:43
Speaker 2: and storms and continued warm on Wednesday, temps in the
• 1:46

• 1:56
Speaker 2: which means we get a visit from Danny Jones. He
• 1:59
Speaker 2: will stop by I and the current mayor City Charles
• 2:02
Speaker 2: and Amy Shooter Goodwin will stop by as well. Questions, comments, concerns,
• 2:05
Speaker 2: anything going on with the mayor or the city. I
• 2:08
Speaker 2: should say the mayor is here to answer those open
• 2:11
Speaker 2: lines and open texts. That's coming up later in the show.
• 2:13
Speaker 2: I want to welcome now into the show the new
• 2:15
Speaker 2: president of Bridge Valley Community and Technical College after Christopher Treadway.
• 2:19
Speaker 2: Good morning, Sarah, Welcome to the show.
• 2:21
  Speaker 1: Good morning, Dave.
• 2:21
Speaker 2: How are you this morning. I'm doing fine. Thank you
• 2:23
Speaker 2: for being here now. You were named the new president
• 2:27
Speaker 2: after Casey Sachs left, and he started serving as the
• 2:30
Speaker 2: Bridge Valley president on July first. Give us your background.
• 2:33
Speaker 4: Yeah, so, I was born and raised in the Kanau Valley,
• 2:35
Speaker 4: went to DuPont High School back in the good old
• 2:37
Speaker 4: days at the Randy Moss days, so they've made for
• 2:39
Speaker 4: some fun football games back in the day, and then
• 2:42
Speaker 4: went to the University of Charleston. I've been a local
• 2:44
Speaker 4: boy my whole life and did my graduate work at
• 2:47
Speaker 4: Marshall and professionally worked previously as the vice chancellor for
• 2:52
Speaker 4: the state's community college system. A lot of the work
• 2:55
Speaker 4: we did there was managing grants for the colleges. We
• 2:58
Speaker 4: had a system of nine community college and we worked
• 3:00
Speaker 4: with all those colleges. West Virginia is a really unique
• 3:03
Speaker 4: position that we have some amazing grants that are funded
• 3:06
Speaker 4: by the legislature to help colleges start up new technical
• 3:09
Speaker 4: training programs and response to the needs of business and industry.
• 3:12
Speaker 4: So if an employer comes to us and says they
• 3:15
Speaker 4: have a training need, we can apply for a grant
• 3:17
Speaker 4: through the Chancellor's office to help get that training program
• 3:20
Speaker 4: up and running quickly and develop it, you know, kind
• 3:23
Speaker 4: of custom tailor it to the needs of that employer partner.
• 3:26
Speaker 4: Not many states have opportunities like that, so we're really
• 3:29
Speaker 4: fortunate that the legislature continues to support that. Also managed
• 3:32
Speaker 4: a program called Learn and Earn, which was our paid
• 3:35
Speaker 4: internship program that is also a partnership with business and industry.
• 3:41
Speaker 4: The way that works is that an employer partner comes
• 3:43
Speaker 4: to us and says they're willing to host an intern
• 3:45
Speaker 4: and what we do then is pay half their wages
• 3:49
Speaker 4: while the student is in college. So they enroll in
• 3:52
Speaker 4: our institution in a program that aligns closely with the
• 3:55
Speaker 4: work they'd be doing as part of their internship, and
• 3:58
Speaker 4: then we know, as a thank you in a way
• 4:01
Speaker 4: to kind of support the work that the employer partner
• 4:03
Speaker 4: is doing for us. And we pay half their half
• 4:05
Speaker 4: the employees' wages while they're in school. So it's a
• 4:07
Speaker 4: great way for students to learn on the job and
• 4:10
Speaker 4: get that hands on experience. And for many students, you know,
• 4:13
  Speaker 4: it's hard for.
• 4:14
  Speaker 2: Them to.
• 4:15
Speaker 4: Continue to go to school and and need to continue
• 4:18
Speaker 4: to work, So we give them an opportunity to work
• 4:21
Speaker 4: and go to school at the same time and support
• 4:23
Speaker 4: that make sure the two aligne But I did a
• 4:25
Speaker 4: lot of work like that at the Central Office and
• 4:27
Speaker 4: I'm just super excited to be at Bridge Valley now.
• 4:30
Speaker 4: Like you said, I started on July first and kind
• 4:32
Speaker 4: of hit the ground running. I'm still getting to know
• 4:34
Speaker 4: people and get settled.
• 4:35
Speaker 2: It was about the job that appealed to you that
• 4:37
  Speaker 2: I know you've been there for a while, You're a
• 4:39
Speaker 2: Canau Valley guy, as you said. But what was it
• 4:41
Speaker 2: specifically about this job that appealed to you.
• 4:43
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, so I've been I've been looking at jobs
• 4:46
Speaker 4: like this for a while and I never I never
• 4:48
Speaker 4: really found the right fit. And when this came open,
• 4:51
Speaker 4: you know, doctor Sachs lef left Bridge Valley and in
• 4:54
Speaker 4: great shape. We're in great shape financially, enrollment is up,
• 4:56
Speaker 4: It's it's really sprung back post pandemic. Bridge Valley just
• 5:01
Speaker 4: has it has great programs, great people, and I had
• 5:03
Speaker 4: the chance to work with with so many of them
• 5:05
Speaker 4: in my previous position that it was just a no brainer.
• 5:08
Speaker 4: When the position came up, I said, that's that's the
• 5:10
Speaker 4: place for me. And again, I'm kind of a valley boy,
• 5:12
Speaker 4: wanted to stay here, didn't want to leave the area
• 5:14
Speaker 4: where we're invested here and and love the area.
• 5:17
Speaker 2: So I think it's great. Uh, Doctor Sackson, I had
• 5:20
Speaker 2: talked about this before, and I know you'll continue this
• 5:23
Speaker 2: the partnership that you mentioned earlier with Bridge Valley and businesses,
• 5:26
Speaker 2: because I you know, and I've listeners for me talking
• 5:28
Speaker 2: about this, you know years ago when when I'm Marshall
• 5:32
Speaker 2: Gatt too, so you go here. Uh So years ago
• 5:35
Speaker 2: when I was in college, it was like, Okay, you're
• 5:38
Speaker 2: we're gonna we're gonna get you a degree and or
• 5:41
Speaker 2: a certificate or whatever, and then we're going to send
• 5:43
Speaker 2: you out in the world to find a job. That's
• 5:46
Speaker 2: all well and good, but I like it now that
• 5:48
Speaker 2: the employers are coming to the institutions of higher learning,
• 5:52
Speaker 2: whether it's Bridge Valley or anybody else and saying, Okay,
• 5:55
Speaker 2: what is it that we need that we need the employees,
• 5:59
Speaker 2: here is the Here is the curriculum that we would
• 6:03
Speaker 2: like to develop. So you guys are working together, is
• 6:05
Speaker 2: what I'm trying to say. I mean, you're working with
• 6:07
Speaker 2: employers here. You're going to these folks and you get
• 6:09
Speaker 2: a great, great relationship with Toyota and some of these
• 6:12
Speaker 2: others and say, okay, what is it that you need,
• 6:15
Speaker 2: And the employers will saying, well, here's what we need,
• 6:18
Speaker 2: get us some workers, and I love the partnership.
• 6:20
Speaker 4: Yeah, And that that constant dialogue with employers is really
• 6:23
Speaker 4: what makes community colleges special. And I think in many
• 6:25
Speaker 4: cases you mentioned it that for your institutions in particular,
• 6:30
Speaker 4: I think that the tradition has been that, you know,
• 6:32
Speaker 4: we we developed the programs, and employers adapt to what
• 6:34
Speaker 4: we what we deliver. With community colleges, we flip the
• 6:37
Speaker 4: script and we say, you, as an employer, tell us
• 6:40
Speaker 4: what you need from a graduate, and we're going to
• 6:42
Speaker 4: adapt to make sure that are graduates have those skills
• 6:44
  Speaker 4: you need.
• 6:45
  Speaker 2: So it's it's you know.
• 6:47
Speaker 4: Again, we have non community colleges across the state and
• 6:49
Speaker 4: we're all doing that same good work and all just
• 6:52
Speaker 4: trying to stay engaged with our business and industry partners uh.
• 6:55
Speaker 4: And you know you mentioned the Toyota partnership. We have
• 6:57
Speaker 4: lots of others as well across uh, you know, all
• 6:59
Speaker 4: areas of the institution where we just we maintain those
• 7:02
Speaker 4: regular contacts with employer partners to make sure that, you know,
• 7:05
Speaker 4: students are learning the hard skills that they need to
• 7:08
Speaker 4: be successful in their positions, but also soft skills as well.
• 7:11
Speaker 2: And you're listening again to what the needs are, which
• 7:13
Speaker 2: I love and I know you get a great Lineman
• 7:15
Speaker 2: program up there, you get a great nursing program, just
• 7:18
Speaker 2: so many great things.
• 7:18
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, and our health sciences programs are second
• 7:22
Speaker 4: to none. We have everything from from nursing to medical sonography.
• 7:27
Speaker 4: My niece actually just graduated from our medical senography program
• 7:30
Speaker 4: last semester, and e MT paramedic programs and advanced manufacturing
• 7:36
Speaker 4: just really across the board, and any anything that might
• 7:39
Speaker 4: be of interest to somebody, we probably have a program
• 7:40
Speaker 4: that will help you find a good paying job in
• 7:42
Speaker 4: that field. Our electrical alignment programs are really special because
• 7:46
Speaker 4: in many cases, our graduates are being hired out of
• 7:48
Speaker 4: the program before they even get to finish the program
• 7:50
Speaker 4: because they're in such demand. And those are those are
• 7:52
Speaker 4: good paying jobs and many sick figures.
• 7:55
Speaker 2: Yes, which is not bad when you're you know, nineteen
• 7:57
Speaker 2: twenty years old, right.
• 7:58
Speaker 4: Yeah, rolling out of college with it, with the potent
• 8:00
Speaker 4: six figure income is really special. I wish I'd had
• 8:02
Speaker 4: that opportunity when I was younger.
• 8:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, I wish I had it. Now nine fifteen, we're
• 8:06
Speaker 2: talking to doctor Christopher Treadway from Bridge Valley Community Technical College.
• 8:10
Speaker 2: Today Island Show in five eighty line, brought to you
• 8:12
Speaker 2: in part by Pinnacle Consultants help me to identify environmental
• 8:15
Speaker 2: concerns like as best as led mold and indoor quality
• 8:18
Speaker 2: issues and buildings all across the state, providing inspections, testing,
• 8:21
Speaker 2: and a credit to lab services you could trust. Check
• 8:23
Speaker 2: out Pinnacle Court dot net. Helping you understand your environment
• 8:26
Speaker 2: because what you don't know can hurt you. And now
• 8:28
Speaker 2: it's time to get to work. I guess for the
• 8:30
Speaker 2: fall semester, right, it's coming up here soon, Oh it is.
• 8:32
Speaker 4: And we're really excited our faculty come back a week
• 8:34
Speaker 4: from today and students, I think three weeks from today,
• 8:38
Speaker 4: I believe it is, yeah, twenty fourth, So yeah, we're
• 8:40
Speaker 4: getting geared up for the semester. Next week we call
• 8:42
Speaker 4: it are welcome back week, so we have lots of
• 8:45
Speaker 4: chances for me to finally get to meet the faculty.
• 8:46
Speaker 4: I just started on July first. I really haven't met
• 8:48
Speaker 4: many of them yet, other than maybe in passing. So yeah, folks,
• 8:52
Speaker 4: fixed are excited, and enrollment is up this semester, so
• 8:57
Speaker 4: we're excited about that, and yeah, ready to get going.
• 9:01
Speaker 2: And I also know that in the past you're going
• 9:05
Speaker 2: to do it this year as well, that there'll be
• 9:06
Speaker 2: some sort of open houses and things of that nature
• 9:09
Speaker 2: for students to be able to come and just get
• 9:11
Speaker 2: students or parents or whomever just to get more information
• 9:13
  Speaker 2: about your programs.
• 9:14
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, So students and parents can can call our office,
• 9:18
Speaker 4: visit us online, or just stop in and visit just
• 9:20
Speaker 4: about any time they want. We're there for them. Everything
• 9:22
Speaker 4: we do is to kind of fit their schedules and
• 9:25
Speaker 4: meet their needs. But we do have a couple of
• 9:26
Speaker 4: special events. We have an open enrollment event this Wednesday,
• 9:30
Speaker 4: and that's where folks can just stop in. It's sort
• 9:33
Speaker 4: of a one stop shop model. You can stop in,
• 9:34
Speaker 4: talk to our admissions people, financial aid if once you
• 9:37
Speaker 4: sign up for classes, whether you will get your registered,
• 9:41
Speaker 4: get your your advisor, and get all those things done
• 9:43
Speaker 4: while you're there, so we just take care of all
• 9:44
Speaker 4: of it while you're there. We have another one next Thursday,
• 9:47
Speaker 4: so that'll be the thirteenth, and we encourage folks to
• 9:49
Speaker 4: stop by and if those days don't work for you,
• 9:51
Speaker 4: just reach out through the website, send us an email,
• 9:54
Speaker 4: give us a call, and we'll find a time that
• 9:55
Speaker 4: works for you and make sure that you're able to
• 9:58
Speaker 4: get enrolled before the start of the semester three weeks
• 10:00
Speaker 4: so I'll go by quickly. So we encourage folks to
• 10:02
Speaker 4: do it today, if you're going to if you're going
• 10:04
  Speaker 4: to sign up.
• 10:04
Speaker 2: We had a text here to the program that that
• 10:07
Speaker 2: we're talking about a story we had reported on about
• 10:09
Speaker 2: overcrowded at the animal shelter, and they wanted to know
• 10:12
Speaker 2: if you would consider implementiting some sort of a veterinary program.
• 10:15
Speaker 4: So I believe in the past we've had a veterinary
• 10:18
Speaker 4: program and that some of those programs are a little
• 10:20
Speaker 4: challenging in that we that they're expensive programs to start
• 10:24
Speaker 4: up and to keep running, and we also have to
• 10:27
Speaker 4: look at the at the job mark. We're always willing
• 10:28
Speaker 4: to consider a new program. So if somebody comes to
• 10:31
Speaker 4: us and helps us, you know, identify a demand, we'll
• 10:33
Speaker 4: we'll do the leg work and see if that demand
• 10:35
Speaker 4: exists and see if we can, you know, justify starting
• 10:37
Speaker 4: a program like that. But I see, I see where
• 10:40
Speaker 4: they're coming from there. But it's one of those things
• 10:42
Speaker 4: we're always willing to talk about.
• 10:43
Speaker 2: And you've got a golf tournament coming up? We do.
• 10:45
Speaker 4: We have our annual golf event coming up that'll be
• 10:48
Speaker 4: at Edgewood Country Club on Monday, September twenty eighth. So
• 10:51
Speaker 4: if anybody would like to sign up a team for that,
• 10:53
Speaker 4: they can visit our website to learn more about it.
• 10:55
Speaker 4: It's Bridge Valley dot edu Slash Foundation and you'll see
• 10:58
Speaker 4: information on the website about the the golf tournament and
• 11:02
Speaker 4: what's involved in signing up. But you we're excited to
• 11:04
Speaker 4: see how many teams sign up this year join us
• 11:06
  Speaker 4: out at Edgewood.
• 11:07

• 15:12
Speaker 2: doing fine. Thank you. All right, So what's what's new
• 15:15
Speaker 2: with you? You're back. You're back in the state now,
• 15:17
Speaker 2: because every time you can talk to you're either here,
• 15:19
Speaker 2: you're there, all over that you're back in West Virginia
• 15:21
  Speaker 2: for now.
• 15:23
Speaker 9: They had the faulty hearings last week. Okay, they can
• 15:28
Speaker 9: compel his testimony. Okay, they vote to give him immunity,
• 15:38
Speaker 9: and that's not something he has a choice in. If
• 15:41
Speaker 9: they immunize you, you're immunized, and that way you can't
• 15:45
Speaker 9: use the Fifth Amendment. Now he would object to it
• 15:50
Speaker 9: and it would wind up in the DC District Court
• 15:54
Speaker 9: and they would compel him to testify. And if you
• 15:58
Speaker 9: don't testify, you go to jail. Condempned a cord I guess, yeah,
• 16:02
Speaker 9: and contempt to Congress. Okay, so you were contempt at.
• 16:05
Speaker 2: Cord to be a quarter Okay, So you watched the
• 16:08
Speaker 2: hearings and we all did. And some of it well, yeah,
• 16:11
Speaker 2: I mean you watched two minutes. You got the whole
• 16:13
Speaker 2: gist of it, which was he's going to bleed the fifth.
• 16:16
Speaker 2: Do you think that he did the right thing in
• 16:20
Speaker 2: doing that putting the fifth or I mean, here's the
• 16:23
Speaker 2: I kind of took it. And there was an editorial
• 16:24
Speaker 2: about it in the Wall Street Journal that I thought
• 16:26
Speaker 2: was a couple a couple of days ago. It I
• 16:28
Speaker 2: thought it was pretty good. Like, you know, he could
• 16:30
Speaker 2: have said things in that hearing that would have shed
• 16:35
Speaker 2: because there are legitimate questions to this day people have
• 16:38
Speaker 2: about COVID now get to even get away from the
• 16:40
Speaker 2: vaccines and all that controversy whatever, there's still legitimate questions
• 16:43
Speaker 2: that people that medical professionals that going forward need, the
• 16:47
Speaker 2: government needs about how it got started, and and that's
• 16:51
Speaker 2: that would be that's more important. That's a more important
• 16:55
Speaker 2: topic to me than what the battle over the vaccinations is.
• 16:58
Speaker 2: Is where it actually came.
• 17:00
Speaker 9: He could, Yeah, but according to Fauci, there were no
• 17:03
Speaker 9: other medical for us. Yeah, he was science, remember he was,
• 17:11
Speaker 9: And I remember there's a senator from Kansas named Marshall.
• 17:16
Speaker 9: He's a medical doctor. Fauci called him an idiot, you know,
• 17:21
Speaker 9: picked it up on a hot mic, on a hot mic,
• 17:25
Speaker 9: but called him an idiot. He should be compelled to testify,
• 17:31
Speaker 9: and they found his apparently they asked him, did you
• 17:35
Speaker 9: lie to your diary?
• 17:36
Speaker 2: You know, there's still questions as to how that mister
• 17:41
Speaker 2: Paul got access to that diary. I was trying to
• 17:44
Speaker 2: do a deep dive on that yesterday, and Fauci kept
• 17:46
Speaker 2: a diary of things, of notes and about the look
• 17:54
Speaker 2: he liked him, He liked him from him. I mean,
• 17:56
Speaker 2: if if you read the exerts, I mean, he was
• 17:58
Speaker 2: really big on himself. And you know, there's nothing wrong
• 18:00
Speaker 2: with that necessarily, but I'm just kind of curious as
• 18:04
Speaker 2: to how Ran Paul actually got access to the diety.
• 18:09
Speaker 9: I can give you three cases. Do you remember a
• 18:14
Speaker 9: congressman named Alsie Hastings Black Eu from Florida. He died
• 18:21
Speaker 9: and he had his girlfriend his chief of staff and
• 18:23
Speaker 9: was paying her two hundred thousand years. Well before that,
• 18:26
Speaker 9: he was a federal judge and he got caught up
• 18:30
Speaker 9: in a bribery scheme and his collaborate, his co conspiraitor
• 18:41
Speaker 9: got caught. In other words, they.
• 18:43
  Speaker 2: Arrested him.
• 18:45
Speaker 9: And they were in d C and Hatestings found out
• 18:50
Speaker 9: they'd arrested him, and he had a ticket to leave
• 18:54
Speaker 9: on d C. But he had a car take into
• 18:57
Speaker 9: Baltimore and he flew back and then he called borders
• 19:03
Speaker 9: on a payphone outside of his office to another payphone,
• 19:09
Speaker 9: but it was being listened to. In other words, the
• 19:13
Speaker 9: federals were listening and they were talking in code. This
• 19:17
Speaker 9: is a federal judge. So they had Hastings on trial.
• 19:24
Speaker 9: He beat the criminal case, but they had him on trial.
• 19:27
Speaker 9: The federal judges filed complaints against him. It was a
• 19:31
Speaker 9: crooked judge, and they had the borders. They brought him
• 19:40
Speaker 9: back his co conspirator, who had already done his time,
• 19:46
Speaker 9: already paid the twenty five thousand, already paid the thirty
• 19:50
Speaker 9: five thousand dollars fine. He said, I'm not testifying and
• 19:55
Speaker 9: it's the only time I saw Arlen Spector pretty well
• 19:58
  Speaker 9: lose his temper.
• 19:59
  Speaker 2: Yeah, And.
• 20:02
Speaker 9: What they did was they went over to DC's circuit
• 20:05
Speaker 9: and they ordered him to testify, and he wouldn't testify,
• 20:09
Speaker 9: so he had to go to jail. The same thing
• 20:12
Speaker 9: happened to Oliver North, and the same thing happened to
• 20:16
Speaker 9: Anthony Ricardo, the mob guy from Chicago, Tony Jocardo, and
• 20:23
Speaker 9: they finally made him to well, he just lied, you know,
• 20:26
Speaker 9: he just his testimonies on YouTube. It's really kind of
• 20:29
Speaker 9: funny because he just lied.
• 20:33
Speaker 2: So what I mean, what should happen for this point
• 20:37
Speaker 2: for doctor Fauci at this point?
• 20:39
  Speaker 9: Oh, I think they'll do what I said. Now, I
• 20:42
Speaker 9: don't know if they have the time to do it,
• 20:45
Speaker 9: because by the time they could get it done, the
• 20:52
Speaker 9: Republicans may lose the Senate. They're going to lose the House,
• 20:56
Speaker 9: but they might lose the Senate, and that's looking like
• 21:02
Speaker 9: a possibility. Do you know that Tallarico is ahead of
• 21:06
  Speaker 9: Paxton in Texas?
• 21:09
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's all that. I have a text here
• 21:12
Speaker 2: it said silence speaks volumes, Danny. Even Bill Maher has
• 21:15
Speaker 2: now changed his tune when it comes to Fauci and
• 21:17
Speaker 2: the lab leak stuff. He's now called Fauci a liar.
• 21:20
Speaker 2: Finally people are waking up to how despicably corrupt an
• 21:23
Speaker 2: evil Fauci really is.
• 21:26
  Speaker 9: I don't know about being evil, he's definitely a narcissist.
• 21:31
Speaker 2: Yeah, well he's he's and you.
• 21:36
Speaker 9: Know, science is kind of like politics. We all have
• 21:41
Speaker 9: different views. Science is meant to be debated.
• 21:45
Speaker 2: It has been and has been over the years, and
• 21:49
Speaker 2: that's how we what used to be good is now
• 21:51
Speaker 2: not good in medical fields and stuff like that. But
• 21:55
Speaker 2: and that's the one issue that I had. And look,
• 21:57
Speaker 2: there were during COVID, Danny, you know, there were all
• 21:59
Speaker 2: these crazy off the wall, you know, things out there.
• 22:04
Speaker 2: But it seems to me that there was a certain
• 22:08
Speaker 2: camp that wanted to shut down any debate about it,
• 22:13
Speaker 2: or even in don't even debate to any discussion. You know,
• 22:17
Speaker 2: this is it concrete? That's it. Well, and again I'm
• 22:20
Speaker 2: not talking about you know, people injecting themselves with all
• 22:23
Speaker 2: these different I'm talking about actual honest debate that many
• 22:27
Speaker 2: respected people in the medical community said we should have
• 22:30
Speaker 2: a discussion about this. But if you were called during
• 22:32
Speaker 2: that time, it was pretty much all shut down.
• 22:35
Speaker 9: And Fauci was the leader of that group. You weren't
• 22:38
Speaker 9: allowed to object. And you know, my son, Charity, he
• 22:44
  Speaker 9: didn't get a shot and he wouldn't and I had
• 22:49
Speaker 9: to because I was in the restroom business. Yeah, I
• 22:53
Speaker 9: had to get shots and wear masks and do all
• 22:55
  Speaker 9: that stuff.
• 22:56
Speaker 2: I chose to get it, and I don't regret my
• 23:01
Speaker 2: decision in any way, But I've always been a big
• 23:04
Speaker 2: believer in what Hoppy said. You do you you know,
• 23:08
Speaker 2: if you are against it, you think it's bad for you, whatever,
• 23:11
Speaker 2: and then that's fine. I have no issue with that whatsoever.
• 23:13
Speaker 2: I have no issue with that whatsoever. I chose to.
• 23:16
Speaker 2: If you chose not to, so be it, that's you.
• 23:19
Speaker 2: Tex says, that's for this fauci hearing nothing but a
• 23:21
Speaker 2: witch hunt, witch hunt, witch hunt three times? Rand Paul
• 23:24
Speaker 2: is a nasty, awful, terrible, low IQ person with blood
• 23:28
Speaker 2: coming from his eyes.
• 23:31
Speaker 9: Well, I don't think Rand Paul is a low IQ person.
• 23:35
Speaker 9: And I'm you know, he's a doctor himself. And uh,
• 23:42
Speaker 9: you know, when you don't have an argument, you just
• 23:44
  Speaker 9: call names.
• 23:45
Speaker 2: So texts Yeah, and Bill Maher said he's gonna rip
• 23:48
Speaker 2: Rand Paul a new one next week. Get your popcorn.
• 23:50
Speaker 2: And you know I'm a big Bill Mahr fan. So'll
• 23:52
Speaker 2: be Is he gonna be on with Bill Maher? Uh?
• 23:55
  Speaker 2: I don't I think so? I think because I watched
• 23:59
Speaker 2: the show from Friday night. I don't stay at that late.
• 24:01
Speaker 2: I recorded and go back. Have you seen it? Yeah?
• 24:05
Speaker 2: Well no, I've got it.
• 24:06
Speaker 9: I subscribed to HBO Max.
• 24:08
Speaker 2: Okay, just so I can watch it, so you can. Okay, Uh,
• 24:11
Speaker 2: did you say, have you seen this past week? I said,
• 24:13
Speaker 2: I'm not gonna spoil it for you. I put it
• 24:17
Speaker 2: on X on my my what was formally known as Twitter.
• 24:21
Speaker 2: He really goes at hard. Bill mart does hard after
• 24:26
Speaker 2: the far left wing of the Democratic Party.
• 24:29
Speaker 9: Well, they're going to run it.
• 24:30
Speaker 2: And that's pretty much what he says. The best line
• 24:34
Speaker 2: in it is when he said, I'm sorry he said
• 24:36
Speaker 2: my and I'm very much paraphrasing, my vote may be
• 24:39
Speaker 2: up in the air. My vote is in play. Is
• 24:40
Speaker 2: when he said, my vote is in play. But however,
• 24:43
Speaker 2: if you are backing the wrong side in the Cold War,
• 24:47
Speaker 2: then I'm out on that. Yeah. And he was talking about,
• 24:50
  Speaker 2: you know, commyuneism.
• 24:51
Speaker 9: If you look at and when these mainstream Democrats, when
• 24:56
Speaker 9: you've got the Democrats, socialists and their primary and the
• 25:01
Speaker 9: mainstream Democrats, you'll see people behind them like James Cliburn. Okay,
• 25:08
Speaker 9: and uh, hakem better get out there, you know, Jeffrey,
• 25:13
Speaker 9: he better get out there. And I think Nancy Pelosi
• 25:17
Speaker 9: was behind one of them. But you you, you better
• 25:21
Speaker 9: get people out there and raise some money for these
• 25:26
Speaker 9: people that are close to being normal.
• 25:29
Speaker 2: Texan who was president when COVID started blame our governor?
• 25:32
Speaker 2: He was one hundred percent behind the protocol. Of course
• 25:35
Speaker 2: Trump was was president at that time. Texas tell Danny
• 25:38
Speaker 2: that witch hunt comment was sarcasm, but his answer was
• 25:41
Speaker 2: right on the money. When you got nothing, you resort
• 25:43
Speaker 2: to name calling. All those statements were made by our
• 25:45
Speaker 2: president of the United States.
• 25:46
  Speaker 9: Okay, that's fair.
• 25:48
  Speaker 7: I did I.
• 25:52
  Speaker 10: I just.
• 25:54
Speaker 2: I had COVID may have had it twice.
• 25:59
Speaker 9: I'm not sure Jared caught it twice, but the first
• 26:02
Speaker 9: time he caught it for me, I caught it in California.
• 26:07
Speaker 2: So when we got was it bad when you had it?
• 26:10
  Speaker 2: I mean I didn't think so. I mean it was
• 26:12
Speaker 2: everybody's were different. I had a running nose, yet that
• 26:15
Speaker 2: was it. Nothing else. I was a very very low
• 26:19
  Speaker 2: grade fever.
• 26:20
Speaker 9: We rode back on the train. We stayed in our room,
• 26:25
Speaker 9: we had the meals delivered to our room and set outside,
• 26:28
Speaker 9: and then we got him. And then we got off
• 26:31
Speaker 9: in Kansas City and rented a car and drove drove
• 26:35
Speaker 9: the rest of the way.
• 26:36
  Speaker 2: I mean, I got a couple more texts. I guess
• 26:38
Speaker 2: this week is kicking off of a large dose of
• 26:40
Speaker 2: Fauci derangement syndrome. It's sad some alleged lab leak. It's
• 26:44
Speaker 2: Maga is more angry than the president running a child
• 26:46
Speaker 2: trafficking and sex assault ring.
• 26:48
Speaker 9: I'm not sure what the two two have to do
• 26:51
Speaker 9: with each other. And I'm not sure about the lab leak.
• 26:54
Speaker 9: I mean, I'm just not sure. But uh, Fauci was
• 27:02
Speaker 9: very intolerant of other people's views, and that's not what
• 27:08
Speaker 9: science is all about. I mean, there's a lot of
• 27:11
Speaker 9: people that have different views.
• 27:14
Speaker 2: Text sa Fauci diaries released were found on the Health
• 27:17
Speaker 2: and Human Services files from the government Computer Service.
• 27:20
Speaker 9: When you're a government employee, anything you write down belongs
• 27:25
  Speaker 9: to the government.
• 27:27
  Speaker 2: That's like.
• 27:31
Speaker 9: Jonathan Carl in his book, he said that Trump wrote
• 27:35
Speaker 9: on a napkin. Romney is an e f and loser
• 27:41
Speaker 9: like that. Well, somewhere in the archives that napin it's
• 27:47
  Speaker 9: going to appear.
• 27:49
  Speaker 5: You know.
• 27:50
Speaker 2: Don't put anything in writing if you're if you're an
• 27:54
Speaker 2: elected official or state official and not even elected, don't
• 27:57
Speaker 2: put anything in writing via email or whatever. You better
• 28:00
Speaker 2: write it in your little spiral notebook and put in
• 28:02
Speaker 2: the truck of your car.
• 28:03
Speaker 9: Well, when President Obama was in the White House, I
• 28:07
Speaker 9: had him own contact. Greg Ballard, the mayor of Indianapolis.
• 28:13
Speaker 9: We shared a contact in there, a really nice guy,
• 28:17
Speaker 9: and he told me, he said, be careful what you
• 28:19
Speaker 9: write down because it's all subject foies.
• 28:23
  Speaker 2: Yeah, and.
• 28:26
Speaker 9: He wrote me, I'll tell you what he did when
• 28:30
Speaker 9: they put up what's his name for Supreme Court and
• 28:34
Speaker 9: Mitch wouldn't give him a hearing. The guy that became
• 28:36
  Speaker 9: the Interney General.
• 28:37
  Speaker 2: Mary Garland.
• 28:38
Speaker 9: Yeah, he said, Joe wants to give him a hearing,
• 28:44
Speaker 9: and we'd like to give him a hearing, and we'd
• 28:47
  Speaker 9: like you.
• 28:47
Speaker 2: To give Joe some cover.
• 28:49
Speaker 9: So wonder if you'd write an off ed piece. I said, sure.
• 28:54
  Speaker 2: I called Joe.
• 28:56
Speaker 9: He says, I'll give him a hearing, but I'm not
• 28:58
Speaker 9: voting for it. You're talking, yeah, Joe Manchon. He said,
• 29:01
Speaker 9: I'm not going to vote for him because he believes
• 29:05
Speaker 9: in these boards making policy without going through Congress, and
• 29:16
Speaker 9: his infused were just different. But Joe said, sure, it
• 29:20
Speaker 9: is entitled to a hearing.
• 29:21
  Speaker 2: So I wrote a column.
• 29:22
Speaker 9: I said, Mary Garland is totally hearing and if you
• 29:28
Speaker 9: don't want to vote for him. Don't vote for him.
• 29:30
Speaker 9: I wouldn't have voted for him, all.
• 29:32
Speaker 2: Right, Danny, always a pleasure to have you show on
• 29:34
Speaker 2: the show. It yeah, I'm sorry. Can you come back
• 29:37
  Speaker 2: next week.
• 29:38
Speaker 1: If you want me?
• 29:40
Speaker 2: Wait a minute, I tell you one more thing. I
• 29:42
Speaker 2: go ahead, go ahead.
• 29:43
Speaker 9: A guy went to his doctor. He said, Marn's been
• 29:47
Speaker 9: broken two places, and the doctor said, quit going to
• 29:50
  Speaker 9: those two places.
• 29:51
Speaker 2: There you go right there. From the Wisdom of Danny

Speaker 2: COVID did not leaked from a lab. The evidence so

Speaker 2: overwhelming it came from Wuhan what marketing. You and Danny
• 33:05
Speaker 2: are too infatuated with your contrarian and reactionary view to
• 33:09
Speaker 2: discuss it, get an expert to cover it, and then
• 33:11

• 33:17
Speaker 2: People who complained about getting the COVID vaccine should have
• 33:19
Speaker 2: tried being in the military. Post nine to eleven. We
• 33:21
Speaker 2: all had to get the anthreats vaccine, and the inventor
• 33:24
Speaker 2: of that went to federal prison for being a con
• 33:26
Speaker 2: artist and sending actual anthracs to members of Congress. Remember
• 33:31
Speaker 2: when we've been lectured for years that were not allowed
• 33:33
Speaker 2: to debate anything declared science base. We're not allowed to
• 33:36
Speaker 2: debate the vaccine. Not allowed to debate the lab leak theory.
• 33:39
Speaker 2: We're not even allowed to debate climate change. Remember, climate

Speaker 2: that just a little bit. I'm a right wing nut job, Okay,

Speaker 2: mayor help me out here.
• 34:13
  Speaker 14: Good morning.
• 34:14
Speaker 2: I don't want to get you involved at all this discussion,
• 34:17
Speaker 2: but I mean the right wing conspiracies that how long
• 34:21
Speaker 2: have you known me?
• 34:22
Speaker 14: Yeah, for like a long time decade.
• 34:24
Speaker 2: I mean you're not. In addition to be an incredibly
• 34:28
Speaker 2: good looking man, I'm also not a right wing nut
• 34:31
Speaker 2: job by any stretch of the imagination. And I don't follow.
• 34:34
Speaker 2: I don't go for every theory in the world. I
• 34:37
Speaker 2: don't think that everything. I'm the least of a conspiracy
• 34:40
Speaker 2: theorist that you'll ever meet in your entire life.
• 34:43
  Speaker 5: That's just me.
• 34:43
Speaker 2: I appreciate the text. So how you doing.
• 34:45
  Speaker 14: I'm okay.
• 34:46
Speaker 10: And you know, it brings up, it brings up a
• 34:48
Speaker 10: point you and I talk about it offline all the time,
• 34:50
Speaker 10: is that where do folks get their content?
• 34:52
Speaker 14: Where do they get their news?
• 34:54
Speaker 10: And as the mother of children who are literally, you know,
• 34:58
Speaker 10: growing up in this age of you see it on
• 35:00
Speaker 10: Facebook or Twitter instead and you think it's true, and
• 35:04
Speaker 10: that's not always the case. And so trying to go
• 35:09
  Speaker 10: back to you know, I'm a I'm a i'm a
• 35:11
Speaker 10: j school. You know, it's what we used to call it.
• 35:13
Speaker 10: I'm a journalism a student. And so it has changed wildly.
• 35:19
Speaker 10: It has changed wildly what you see and what you
• 35:21
Speaker 10: hear out there and what you believe. And so I
• 35:23
Speaker 10: just I thank you, and I thank everybody here. You know,
• 35:27
Speaker 10: they do such a they do such a great job.
• 35:29
Speaker 10: That's why local news is so important. I know that
• 35:31
Speaker 10: there are a lot of folks out there that you know,
• 35:33
Speaker 10: watch the national news, but I got to tell you
• 35:35
Speaker 10: local news is still where it's at.
• 35:37
Speaker 14: I mean, you have to be.
• 35:40
Speaker 10: You have to be engaged involved in what's going on.
• 35:42
Speaker 10: In your local community. And that's what you guys do,
• 35:44
Speaker 10: and you do so very well. You know, listening to
• 35:47
Speaker 10: Jeff this morning report of the news is what I
• 35:49
Speaker 10: do every single morning. I mean I listened to the
• 35:51
Speaker 10: radio probably more than I watched the television anything.
• 35:53
Speaker 2: Appreciate may not appreciate that, but but.
• 35:57
Speaker 10: Yeah, listen to her as well. I could listen to
• 35:58
Speaker 10: her as well. But I think that you know, when
• 36:00
Speaker 10: you read and you write, and you and you listen
• 36:03
Speaker 10: to different folks, it's it is always a good thing.
• 36:05
Speaker 10: But anyways, when we're not here to talk about the
• 36:08
Speaker 10: value of local media, but I value it very very much.
• 36:11
Speaker 2: I got a big shout out real quick to my
• 36:13
Speaker 2: man Woody woulds Oh wow. People told him it was
• 36:16
Speaker 2: nuts to consider putting the concert on like he did
• 36:18
Speaker 2: at Shawnee Saturday night. That many artists in that space.
• 36:21
Speaker 2: It was amazing. My guy killed. It couldn't help that
• 36:24
Speaker 2: because of the weather that's lightning hit and they had
• 36:26
Speaker 2: to they had to end up canceling or had to
• 36:28
Speaker 2: put you know, to end a little bit early. But
• 36:31
Speaker 2: I didn't want to say hats off to my man
• 36:32
Speaker 2: Woody Would's great, great show. The other night.
• 36:34
Speaker 14: Catch I texted him.
• 36:36
Speaker 10: I texted him yesterday just to say, you know, as
• 36:38
Speaker 10: somebody who gets punched in the face quite frequently, especially
• 36:41
Speaker 10: on social media, because everybody, everybody wants to tell you
• 36:44
Speaker 10: when you've done wrong. But it's uh, I told him,
• 36:48
Speaker 10: when you take chances and when you do big things,
• 36:52
Speaker 10: you're up high. You're up high, and keep going north,
• 36:56
Speaker 10: keep that keep that compass heading forward and upward. Because
• 37:00
Speaker 10: it was great and nobody can do anything about the weather,
• 37:04
Speaker 10: and especially you know, this is what I would say.
• 37:06
Speaker 10: I would not want people out there when it's lightning.
• 37:09
Speaker 10: That is just an AQ test. The answer is no,
• 37:14
Speaker 10: I would not want to be responsible for a lot
• 37:17
Speaker 10: of Listen, we've had to do that. You know this,
• 37:19
Speaker 10: We've had to do it with Regatta. When you host
• 37:21
Speaker 10: outdoor events, things are going to happen.
• 37:24
  Speaker 14: Period.
• 37:24
Speaker 10: He did a great job and obviously it needs to
• 37:28
Speaker 10: be done again. I mean, when you try and you
• 37:30
Speaker 10: pilot some things, we do it all the time. Sometimes
• 37:32
Speaker 10: it works, sometimes it doesn't, but it's you know, it's
• 37:35
Speaker 10: big swings will get you the home runs.
• 37:36
Speaker 2: But Dave Island showing five adye line brought to you
• 37:38
Speaker 2: part by the Charleston Dirty Birds Birds are in Lexington
• 37:40
Speaker 2: starting tomorrow through Thursday. They are back at Go Ballpark
• 37:44
Speaker 2: Friday night to take on the Blue Crabs of Southern Maryland. Tickets,
• 37:47
Speaker 2: promotions and more. Visit Dirty Birds Baseball dot Com. Council
• 37:50
Speaker 2: is going to meet tonight. Several animal issues are on
• 37:53
  Speaker 2: the agenda tonight.
• 37:53
Speaker 14: Yeah, yeah, for sure, there is.
• 37:56
Speaker 10: There's one bill that's going through or Nansen rolls on excrement.
• 38:03
Speaker 2: Thanks for saying that that one.
• 38:04
  Speaker 14: You're welcome.
• 38:06
Speaker 10: You know, increasing the fines in both public and private
• 38:08
Speaker 10: spaces from ten to twenty to fifty to one hundred,
• 38:12
Speaker 10: something that council members have brought to the floor, in
• 38:16
Speaker 10: particular council Member Brett Burton, who does an outstanding job.
• 38:20
  Speaker 5: You know.
• 38:20
Speaker 10: A couple other things on council floor that are really,
• 38:23
Speaker 10: really incredibly important is that we're buying a new fire truck.
• 38:28
Speaker 10: Fire trucks. Ladder trucks, by the way, are very expensive.
• 38:32
Speaker 10: It's one point seventy four million dollars. When you talk
• 38:34
Speaker 10: about public safety, I'm not sure that everybody always thinks
• 38:38
Speaker 10: about the ladder trucks that you have to.
• 38:39
Speaker 14: Purchase, but we do.
• 38:41
Speaker 2: Thanks for pointing out the price too, because a lot
• 38:43
Speaker 2: of people don't understand how expensive.
• 38:44
Speaker 10: Those They're very, very expensive, and so I want to
• 38:48
Speaker 10: make mention this is a this is a very important vote.
• 38:51
Speaker 10: It is a high cost but of high value if
• 38:55
Speaker 10: we are going to live in a capital city and
• 38:57
Speaker 10: have all of these wonderful tall buildings that people live
• 39:01
Speaker 10: and work, and we have to have the equipment to
• 39:04
Speaker 10: do that. And speaking of equipment, it's not just the
• 39:07
Speaker 10: ladder truck that's on council agenda tonight. We're also we
• 39:11
Speaker 10: have air packs that obviously our firefighters use when they're
• 39:14
Speaker 10: going in, not just when they're training, but when they're
• 39:17
Speaker 10: in active use, and we need to replenish those air packets.
• 39:21
Speaker 14: We're doing forty six.
• 39:22
Speaker 10: We normally only do about ten a year, but we
• 39:25
Speaker 10: had more folks and more folks come into the program,
• 39:28
Speaker 10: thank goodness, and they all just came up. Their expiration
• 39:31
Speaker 10: date came up at the same time. Those are the
• 39:33
Speaker 10: types of things that we do in municipal government that sometimes, Dave,
• 39:37
Speaker 10: we don't talk about air packs for our firefighters. To
• 39:40
Speaker 10: make sure that when they're going in, their air packs
• 39:42
Speaker 10: are ready to go. This is truly life and death
• 39:45
Speaker 10: when you're talking about public safety. These are two things
• 39:49
Speaker 10: that are critical for our fire our fire and rescue department.
• 39:54
Speaker 10: And so those are two big things that are on
• 39:56
Speaker 10: because sometimes it gets really easy to get wrapped up
• 39:58
Speaker 10: in the what's the most exciting thing on the agenda?
• 40:00
  Speaker 14: For me?
• 40:01
Speaker 10: These are the two most exciting things on the agenda
• 40:04
Speaker 10: tonight because it talks about not only protection of our
• 40:07
Speaker 10: public safety workers, our ems and our firefighters, but also
• 40:12
Speaker 10: public safety and the places that you live and work
• 40:14
Speaker 10: and making sure that we can make sure we can
• 40:17
  Speaker 10: get to you.
• 40:17
Speaker 2: Talk about all these folks that are coming to town
• 40:20
  Speaker 2: for the Yeah.
• 40:21
Speaker 10: So I've had the pleasure and I'm getting ready to
• 40:24
Speaker 10: end my term. I had the pleasure this year of
• 40:26
Speaker 10: being the West Virginia Municipal League President. And so we
• 40:31
Speaker 10: have not had the summer Conference in the City of
• 40:35
Speaker 10: Charlestown for a very very long period of time, close
• 40:39
Speaker 10: to thirteen fifteen years. And let me tell you why
• 40:43
Speaker 10: is because folks haven't been on it. Because I think
• 40:47
Speaker 10: the city was really gracious and saying, hey, listen, everybody
• 40:49
Speaker 10: comes in the entire state, all the mayor, city managers,
• 40:53
Speaker 10: city council members, their teams come in for our winter conference.
• 41:00
Speaker 14: I said you know what, I'd like to give it
• 41:01
Speaker 14: a go. I'd like to bid on it. I'd like
• 41:03
Speaker 14: to have it here.
• 41:05
Speaker 10: I am so incredibly proud to say, Well, first of all,
• 41:07
Speaker 10: whatdn't happen without our partnership with the West Virginia Municipal League.
• 41:11
Speaker 10: They've done an incredible job, and Susan does a incredible
• 41:13
Speaker 10: job as executive director. But Beth and Kristen, there's the
• 41:16
Speaker 10: only two names you need to know. The boy they
• 41:18
Speaker 10: make things happen. They've been a joy to work with.
• 41:21
Speaker 10: Our team has been wonderful. Four hundred and fifty people
• 41:24
Speaker 10: are coming into the City of Charleston, and I could
• 41:27
Speaker 10: not be more excited, not just to have everyone from
• 41:30
Speaker 10: across the state, but we are also having Kevin Kramer,
• 41:34
Speaker 10: who is our national president of the NLC. In the
• 41:37
Speaker 10: time that I have been mayor, we have never had
• 41:40
Speaker 10: a president of NLC come in. And he's coming in
• 41:43
Speaker 10: and people say, what is this conference?
• 41:46
Speaker 14: What are you doing?
• 41:47
Speaker 10: Well, what we're doing is talking about the things that
• 41:49
Speaker 10: most of the time don't end up making it on
• 41:51
  Speaker 10: the news, Dave.
• 41:52
Speaker 14: We're talking about procurement.
• 41:54
Speaker 10: Processes, We're talking about best practices, we're talking about the systems,
• 41:59
Speaker 10: the policies and procedures that people put in or you know,
• 42:04
Speaker 10: how do you write good grants for your city? You know,
• 42:07
Speaker 10: some of our cities, two hundred and thirty cities, towns
• 42:09
Speaker 10: and villages all across the Mountain State, they don't have
• 42:12
Speaker 10: grant writers. They don't have extra people just sitting around.
• 42:16
Speaker 10: So how do how do the people that you have
• 42:18
Speaker 10: on your team, how do they write grants? How do
• 42:21
Speaker 10: they create new policies. We're having Ascend Danny Twilley come
• 42:26
Speaker 10: in from Morgantown to talk about the success of the
• 42:29
Speaker 10: ASCEND programs. And you may say, well, congratulations to the
• 42:33
Speaker 10: six cities that get to do this, what's in it
• 42:35
Speaker 10: for me? We're going to tell you why it works,
• 42:38
Speaker 10: and we're going to share with you the strategies and
• 42:40
Speaker 10: the things that they're doing so you can do it
• 42:42
Speaker 10: in your own city. You know, I saw you post
• 42:44
Speaker 10: earlier about the man from Man, the mayor of Man,
• 42:47
Speaker 10: our friend John. He's doing incredible things, he is, and
• 42:52
Speaker 10: sometimes you don't see those incredible things because they're not that,
• 42:57
Speaker 10: you know, a shock and all. They're not that front
• 43:00
Speaker 10: page headline. But it should be the work of municipal
• 43:03
Speaker 10: government is incredibly difficult work. It is boots on the groundwork.
• 43:09
Speaker 10: We're talking about refuse, streets and traffic, police, fire, the
• 43:15
Speaker 10: park and rec systems. These are the These are very
• 43:19
Speaker 10: very difficult and trying time, certainly in municipal government. And
• 43:23
Speaker 10: so it is a wonderful time for us to come in,
• 43:26
Speaker 10: put on great programming and host folks too. By the way,
• 43:30
Speaker 10: give ideas and steal ideas.
• 43:33
Speaker 2: That's what it's all about. How we get to steal idea.
• 43:35

Speaker 2: The Mayor of Charleston is here, Amy Shoulder Goodwin. Lots
• 45:23
Speaker 2: to talk about paving here lately.
• 45:25
Speaker 10: Mayor oh Man paving. Thank you for being patient. That's
• 45:28
Speaker 10: the first thing that I will say. It is the
• 45:30
Speaker 10: largest paving cycle that we've had. Also in well, I'm
• 45:35
Speaker 10: going to say decades upon decades. I can't go back
• 45:38
Speaker 10: and find where we spent close to five million dollars
• 45:41
Speaker 10: on paving. Now, mind you, when we got here, we
• 45:43
Speaker 10: went from about one point five to three one point
• 45:47
Speaker 10: five million to three million back in twenty nineteen, and
• 45:52
Speaker 10: we have been doing about three million. But working with
• 45:57
Speaker 10: our state and working with our federal partners able to
• 46:00
Speaker 10: increase that and also have good partnerships. You know, Listen,
• 46:05
Speaker 10: that is the other thing that municipal government that we
• 46:08
Speaker 10: do very well. I hate to keep talking about the conference,
• 46:11
Speaker 10: but this is why it's so incredibly important. We're having
• 46:13
Speaker 10: a lunch Legislative panel Senators and delegates from all over
• 46:16
Speaker 10: the Mountain state are coming in so we can learn
• 46:18
Speaker 10: and listen to them. What are your priorities, what are
• 46:20
Speaker 10: our priorities, and how we work together because we have
• 46:23
Speaker 10: to work with the state and we want to.
• 46:24
Speaker 14: We have to work with the federal government folks, and
• 46:26
Speaker 14: we have to we want to.
• 46:28
Speaker 10: So those extra funding cycles will help us partner on
• 46:32
Speaker 10: some really good projects. Because we had a lot of calls,
• 46:35
Speaker 10: what are you doing about oak Wood Road? Well, it's
• 46:37
Speaker 10: not my road, but you know what, We're going to
• 46:38
Speaker 10: partner with the state of West Virginia to get that
• 46:41
Speaker 10: road paved again this year. So you know, since I
• 46:44
Speaker 10: took over, it's you know, it's one hundred and fifteen
• 46:48
Speaker 10: miles one hundred and fifteen miles of paved road. We
• 46:51
Speaker 10: can't get to every road every year, and boy, I
• 46:54
Speaker 10: wish we could. I did a media availability last week
• 46:59
Speaker 10: with council member over Street and our team to go
• 47:03
Speaker 10: up to see what West Virginia's paving is doing. To
• 47:06
Speaker 10: remind folks because by the way, it is an inconvenience, Dave.
• 47:09
Speaker 10: If I'm paving your road and you only have parking
• 47:11
Speaker 10: on your street, it's going to be an inconvenience to you.
• 47:14
Speaker 10: If you are a senior, you got to move your car.
• 47:16
Speaker 10: What times my doctors. We got to really work with folks.
• 47:19
Speaker 10: So it is it's a year long process.
• 47:22
  Speaker 12: You know.
• 47:22
Speaker 10: We work with our engineering department, We work with our
• 47:25
Speaker 10: planning department, We work with city council members. They give
• 47:28
Speaker 10: us suggestions as to hey, would you look at this road,
• 47:31
Speaker 10: could you put it on the list? See if it
• 47:32
Speaker 10: makes the top you know, the top list.
• 47:34
Speaker 14: We have a you know, an.
• 47:36
Speaker 10: Amount of money in a bucket, and that's the money
• 47:39
Speaker 10: that we need to use every year for paving. We
• 47:41
Speaker 10: increased it this year because we quite frankly need to
• 47:43
Speaker 10: mother Nature. Here we go again talking about her. She
• 47:46
Speaker 10: wasn't that great to us over the past couple of seasons.
• 47:49
Speaker 10: And the reason why I know that is cities all
• 47:50
Speaker 10: across West Virginia ran out of salt. I'm so glad
• 47:54
Speaker 10: we didn't, and I know Brent Webster is glad we didn't.
• 47:57
Speaker 10: But it took a beating on our roads. And so
• 47:59
Speaker 10: going it back and assessing and evaluating those are really important.
• 48:04
Speaker 10: And Kentucky was there too to also talk about the
• 48:07
Speaker 10: roads that we need to pave. Are also our pipelines
• 48:10
Speaker 10: to hospitals and schools, and it is a big public
• 48:14
Speaker 10: safety issue when you talk about crumbling roads and infrastructure
• 48:18
Speaker 10: and so and it is just something that is always
• 48:22
Speaker 10: top of mine and tip of tongue for us. Speaking
• 48:25
Speaker 10: of police officers, we sore in last week twelve new
• 48:31
Speaker 10: police officers. And you know, in a time in our
• 48:34
Speaker 10: country where it is it's not in the state of
• 48:36
Speaker 10: West Virginia, it's not in Charleston. In the country, it
• 48:39
Speaker 10: is really difficult to recruit new police officers and ask
• 48:44
Speaker 10: folks to serve in this capacity. To have to the
• 48:48
Speaker 10: largest we've had since gosh you whiz early two thousands.
• 48:52
Speaker 2: I think, I think the chief two thousand and five.
• 48:56
Speaker 10: Yeah, it's a long long time to have these big numbers,
• 49:02
Speaker 10: and I think it is. It's a lot of different things.
• 49:05
Speaker 10: You have to You have to be willing to serve, right,
• 49:08
Speaker 10: you have to be willing to do that. And I
• 49:10
Speaker 10: listened actually to one of the clips that he had
• 49:12
Speaker 10: from your your show last week, Dave, where you know
• 49:15
Speaker 10: that willingness to serve, that integrity piece and that go
• 49:20
Speaker 10: get him attitude that listen, I'm part of a team.
• 49:23
Speaker 10: This isn't about me, and and center focused on what
• 49:27
Speaker 10: is best for our community. And so I'm really proud.
• 49:31
Speaker 10: I know, chief was really proud, and our deputy chiefs
• 49:33
Speaker 10: were very proud to have one of this one of
• 49:36
Speaker 10: the largest classes to go through.
• 49:38
Speaker 14: So really important stuff.
• 49:40
Speaker 2: All right. I got a couple of texts here says
• 49:42
Speaker 2: when will ground be broken on the Hilton brand hotel
• 49:45
Speaker 2: for which plans were submitted more than a.
• 49:46
Speaker 10: Year ago, on the corner of the old Seers Lot.
• 49:49
Speaker 10: Got gosh, you wiz, I hope sooner rather than later.
• 49:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, because that's not really No, it's not moving, it's
• 49:56
Speaker 2: not and that's not a city thing. No, it's not.
• 49:58
Speaker 14: No, it's not. But it's a great question.
• 50:00
  Speaker 10: It's a great question, and I don't have an answer
• 50:04
Speaker 10: for you. We would have hoped it would be a
• 50:07
Speaker 10: while back, because we need another hotel, definitely.
• 50:11
Speaker 2: We need not Charlie. The surrounding area is yeah too.
• 50:14
Speaker 10: Yeah, even our you know, even our quote small little conference.
• 50:17
Speaker 10: We're in two different hotels, Matt. So if you want
• 50:20
Speaker 10: me to continue to bring people in and families to
• 50:22
Speaker 10: come in, we do. We need another hotel Texas.
• 50:25
Speaker 2: Whatever happened with the lawsuit, the city filed against West
• 50:27
  Speaker 2: Virginia Paving.
• 50:29
Speaker 14: That was before my time.
• 50:30
Speaker 2: Okay, all right, uh text, I recently watched an episode
• 50:33
Speaker 2: of Forensic Files where city council allocated special funds to
• 50:36
Speaker 2: solve all the city's unsolved coal cases. Can Charleston do that?
• 50:40
Speaker 2: We've got several unsolved missing person and homicide cases that
• 50:43
Speaker 2: could use more attention resources.
• 50:45
Speaker 10: We have a ninety six percent solve rate. But you know, listen,
• 50:48
Speaker 10: I know this. We have a low crime rate and
• 50:51
Speaker 10: in a high solve high crime solve rate, but it
• 50:56
Speaker 10: can always be better. I certainly would be interested and
• 50:59
Speaker 10: if that text or wants to email or call the
• 51:02
Speaker 10: office three O four three four eight eight.
• 51:03
  Speaker 14: One seven four.
• 51:05
Speaker 10: Always willing to talk to folks and see what ideas
• 51:07
Speaker 10: that they have and things that we can things that
• 51:10
  Speaker 10: we can do.
• 51:11
Speaker 14: I want to go back and say this.
• 51:14
Speaker 10: The texter that said something about West Virginia West Virginia
• 51:17
Speaker 10: Paving that it was before my time, but I will
• 51:19
Speaker 10: say I will say this, West Virginia Paving is our
• 51:23
Speaker 10: current paver in this paving cycle. They're doing an incredible job.
• 51:27
Speaker 10: But that's always bid out paving, and big projects like
• 51:31
Speaker 10: that are bid out and so it is the best cost,
• 51:37
Speaker 10: the most you know, highest responsible bidder, and so we
• 51:41
Speaker 10: have to follow those those guidelines. But I will say
• 51:43
Speaker 10: West Virginia Paving is doing an amazing job, insomuch that
• 51:47
Speaker 10: I actually called them last week when I went on
• 51:50
Speaker 10: site to say thank you to the people that were
• 51:52
Speaker 10: there in the hot sun working and saying thank you,
• 51:55
Speaker 10: thank you for doing what you're doing.
• 51:57
Speaker 14: It's really hard work.
• 51:58
Speaker 10: Our laborersly get recognized and thank you for doing such
• 52:02
