- 0:19Speaker 1: Good morning, welcome into this Thursday edition of our This
- 0:22Speaker 1: is the Life podcast. So glad you could join us
- 0:25Speaker 1: and I do hope you've been joining us this week.
- 0:27Speaker 1: We've had a A lot of good feedback and comments
- 0:30Speaker 1: and kind of almost testimonies that people have sent in
- 0:34Speaker 1: surrounding this series of things that God never meant for
- 0:39Speaker 1: you to carry or for us to carry. We're all
- 0:42Speaker 1: in this together. We've had some really good insight that
- 0:48Speaker 1: the Lord has shown us this week, and I do
- 0:50Speaker 1: pray that it's been helpful. I always love to hear
- 0:52Speaker 1: from you. If you want to send me a comment
- 0:55Speaker 1: or send something that maybe I can share on our
- 0:58Speaker 1: front porch Fridays. I'd just be glad to do that.
- 1:01Speaker 1: This morning, the Lord takes us again to the Word
- 1:05Speaker 1: of God, and we're going to be looking in Romans
- 1:07Speaker 1: chapter 8 this morning. When I begin to really get
- 1:11Speaker 1: before the Lord on this one, there are things that
- 1:13Speaker 1: we carry because life has placed them upon us. You know,
- 1:17Speaker 1: sometimes we can't do anything about some of the weight
- 1:21Speaker 1: that befalls us in the course of life, and There
- 1:24Speaker 1: are also things we continue carrying long after God has
- 1:28Speaker 1: offered to take them away from us. And that's kind
- 1:31Speaker 1: of what he's been covering this week. And guilt is
- 1:34Speaker 1: a big one. Because guilt belongs in that second category.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Things that we continue to carry long after God has
- 1:42Speaker 1: offered to take them away from us. See it has
- 1:46Speaker 1: a way of following us from season to season to season.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Reminding us perhaps of old failures. causing us to question
- 1:56Speaker 1: whether we are truly worthy of the grace that we
- 1:58Speaker 1: have received through Jesus Christ. But if God has forgiven
- 2:02Speaker 1: your past, I just want to talk to you this
- 2:05Speaker 1: morning about this. If God has forgiven your past, He
- 2:08Speaker 1: never intended for you to keep living beneath the weight
- 2:11Speaker 1: of it. And so we need to surrender that. You
- 2:15Speaker 1: need to surrender that this morning because Romans chapter 8
- 2:18Speaker 1: and verse number 1 simply puts it like this. There
- 2:22Speaker 1: is therefore now, He didn't say later. He said, there
- 2:26Speaker 1: is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in
- 2:32Speaker 1: Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after
- 2:38Speaker 1: the Spirit. See, there is a difference between conviction and condemnation.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Conviction is the Holy Spirit showing us something that needs
- 2:50Speaker 1: to change in our lives. It leads us towards confession.
- 2:54Speaker 1: towards repentance, towards ultimately toward restoration. Conviction may be uncomfortable,
- 3:01Speaker 1: but its purpose is always to bring us closer to God.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I hope you understand that part. But now condemnation is different.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Condemnation does the opposite. It continually reminds us of our failures,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and it tells us that we will never be anything
- 3:20Speaker 1: more than what we once were. It doesn't lead us
- 3:24Speaker 1: towards God. It makes us feel unworthy to even approach God. See,
- 3:29Speaker 1: conviction is like this. Conviction says, this is not who
- 3:33Speaker 1: God called you and saved you to be. Condemnation says,
- 3:38Speaker 1: this is all you'll ever be. You see the difference?
- 3:42Speaker 1: How many of you this morning have asked God to
- 3:45Speaker 1: forgive you, yet you continue punishing yourself long after He
- 3:51Speaker 1: has extended His grace toward you? You know the Scriptures
- 3:55Speaker 1: say that you're forgiven. Yet continuing to condemn yourself doesn't
- 4:01Speaker 1: honor the sacrifice that Jesus made for you. It keeps
- 4:04Speaker 1: you chained to something His blood was shed to release
- 4:08Speaker 1: you from. And my prayer is that you receive that
- 4:12Speaker 1: this morning. Because forgiveness doesn't mean that our choices had
- 4:17Speaker 1: no consequences. There may be apologies we need to make,
- 4:21Speaker 1: relationships we need to... help try to rebuild, lessons that
- 4:25Speaker 1: we will never forget. But learning, now listen to this,
- 4:30Speaker 1: learning from the past is different from continuing to live
- 4:34Speaker 1: under the shadow of the past. Romans tells us that
- 4:40Speaker 1: there is now no condemnation to those who are in
- 4:42Speaker 1: Christ Jesus. And what that means is the person you
- 4:46Speaker 1: used to be does not have to have the final
- 4:49Speaker 1: word over the person you're becoming. God knew everything about
- 4:56Speaker 1: you when He saved you and when He called you
- 5:00Speaker 1: according to His purpose. He knew every failure, every poor
- 5:05Speaker 1: decision you've made, every moment you wished you could change,
- 5:11Speaker 1: and still He offered you His grace. If God has
- 5:16Speaker 1: forgiven you, you don't have to keep reopening the case
- 5:21Speaker 1: over and over and over again. So perhaps, Just perhaps
- 5:25Speaker 1: this morning, you need to stop carrying the guilt of
- 5:28Speaker 1: something you have already placed in the hands of Jesus.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Receive His forgiveness this morning. Learn from what happened, but
- 5:38Speaker 1: don't continue living by what happened. You may remember what
- 5:44Speaker 1: you did, but you no longer have to be defined
- 5:48Speaker 1: by what you have done. That's the release of guilt.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And the receiving of grace. So this morning, if you can,
- 5:57Speaker 1: I just want you to take your hands. I want
- 5:59Speaker 1: you to hold them in front of you. And I
- 6:02Speaker 1: want you to think about whatever it is you're carrying.
- 6:06Speaker 1: That you should have already placed in the hands of Jesus.
- 6:10Speaker 1: But this morning I want you to lift it up.
- 6:14Speaker 1: And release it. And then take about a two second
- 6:18Speaker 1: pause and then bring your hands back down. And you're
- 6:21Speaker 1: receiving his grace. And let that be a mental picture
- 6:26Speaker 1: of you. That you no longer have to carry. What
- 6:29Speaker 1: you've placed in the hands. Of Jesus. God never meant
- 6:34Speaker 1: for you to carry the guilt. When you have been forgiven.
- 6:38Speaker 1: So lay it down. Accept his grace. And walk forward
- 6:41Speaker 1: in the freedom. That only. He can provide. Today you
- 6:47Speaker 1: be safe. You be strong. You be blessed. And you
- 6:52Speaker 1: be forgiven. And walk like you're forgiven and free. Lord's will.
- 6:57Speaker 1: We'll see you back here again tomorrow. For our Front
- 7:00Speaker 1: Porch Friday edition. Look forward to that. And look forward
- 7:03Speaker 1: to having you guys with me. And until then. I
- 7:07Speaker 1: sure hope you have a great day.
