- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Thanks for having me.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: How are you doing today?
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: I'm excited to go on this because it's been years.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: It's been a long time coming.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Years in the making.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: You were one of the first people.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: I think you're one of the first people I asked, and then you were like, I need to find the perfect movie.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: It's been a wild ride.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: There were so many films where I was like, I could do that film, and then I rewatched it.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: I was like, no, I cannot do that film.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: At least three or four, I think.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Can you remember what they were?
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: One was The Perfect Score, which is the heist, the kind of SAT's heist movie with Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: And I was like, oh, I remember that being fun when I was a teenager.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: And then watched it, and then like there's a first shot, like one of the first scenes is like a guy, one of the main characters looking up Scarlett Johansson's skirt.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: And like actually showing the panty shot.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: It's like, what the hell is this?
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Can't defend that.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: You're not doing that anymore.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Cannot defend that.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: No, I I remember loving that movie when I was a teenager.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: But then like I haven't seen it since then, so like if I was to go back and watch it, I'd probably feel the same now.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: It is a fun idea.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Breakfast Club meets heist.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: It should work, but it doesn't it doesn't quite.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Have you seen uh the movie 21?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Oh I guess you've not seen it.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Oh it's really surprising actually considering it's a poker movie.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: No, it's a blackjack movie.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: The blackjack movie, yeah.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen it.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: I've seen a lot of poker movies, actually, a lot of bad ones, but some somehow I've just missed 21.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Uh maybe I'll go back and watch it.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say because it's kind of it's in a little bit similar to the pr uh Perfect Score, but like I think it's better.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, probably is better.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Perfect Score is not a well-received movie by critics or fans.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: No, it's not.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: But I was on TV when I was a teenager and I was like, oh, I enjoyed that.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Uh do you remember any of the other films?
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Um I think I briefly want to defend in time.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Is that what it's called?
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: The one with Justin Timberlake.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Justin Timberlake, where time is money.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Literally, someone thought, Time is money, let's make that into a film.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: I think it is a good movie for like 30 minutes and then it just derails so much.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: There's that has a poker scene in it where he bids his all his life years, whatever, yeah, on a yeah, on a hand.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: I don't remember liking that at all.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: No, it's not good.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: I remember the I'm thinking, oh, this could be a good movie, but no, no.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: It's a good premise, but Yeah, yeah.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Again, like all of these movies that you you chose are good premises that just executed badly.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: No, terrible.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Bad.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Also, like he Olivia Wilde plays his mum, and it's really weird because she's like younger than him.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: But in the universe it makes sense, but it just feels really weird to watch.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: He's like, he's like, that's her mum.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: That's my mum.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: I love my mum.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: She's just this young, young woman.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: It just doesn't work.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, because Amanda Seifried is the is the love interest, isn't she?
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she is.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Ah, that's right.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: I can't remember who the baddie is.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: It's the guy from oh, it's I think it's Vincent Cartiser.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: I think he's the baddie.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: At the height of his career.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, what a good time.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Um what else have you been up to lately?
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Have you um you've been getting back into stand-up again, haven't you?
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: I've seen more gigs than I usually do.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: I guess relatively I'm I'm getting back into it by doing more than one gig a month, which is a lot.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've got like three or four gigs this week this month, which is a month.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: No, no, this this month, which is high for me this year.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: How are you finding it, getting back in?
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Uh I I think it's nice to do new material new material again and stuff, and just go out there and just do completely new material every time.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: That's my favorite part.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: What have you um so you you you you're working on like a brand new show or are you just like having fun?
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: No, no, I'm not doing Edinburgh.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: No.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: So I've stopped working on shows because of that.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Uh do you think you'll ever do Edinburgh again?
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Maybe.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Maybe one or two years.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Maybe in like two years.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Maybe.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Maybe next year, who knows?
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's like no rush to do it.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: It's just needed to calm down a bit.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's gonna it's I think this year is gonna be quiet, but still busier than like most years.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: It's quite it's gonna still even be quieter than last year.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there are definitely a lot of like people who aren't going up, yeah.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: But there's so many more stand-ups now.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: There's just been this massive influx of stand-ups that's crazy.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, loads of new people are debuting and doing the half hours and stuff.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: It's yeah.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be wild.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Have you seen any uh any stand-up you enjoyed lately?
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: What stand-up have I have I enjoyed?
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: I have, I can't really remember what I've been seeing.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: I saw Balau Show on on Thursday.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Oh, you went to see it?
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Friday, actually.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, is that the first time you've seen it?
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Oh nice.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: I've just not been able to catch it.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: I'm so bad at catching shows.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: I've seen it so many times.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I bet.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Just he was doing every show at two North Down, so I just saw like Oh yeah, that makes sense.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: I think I saw maybe ten versions of it or something like that.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: I it's crazy.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: I really enjoy watching the same show over and over again, at least like three or four times.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: I I usually do, but it was the fact that it was like I think it was like twice a week.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: So I was just seeing it constantly.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Same one.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, not ideal.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: But I do really like the show.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a good show.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: It's probably changed a lot again since I seen it.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: When did you last see it?
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: Um before like pre-Edinburgh.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: So like right before.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: And then I saw him I think I saw him up there.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: I ran into him like only a couple of times up there.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: It was just always he was always inside, he wasn't going out.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's some people who just go full hermit and smart.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: I never do, but uh you never go full hermit.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: No, I always just I go there to meet comedians and hang out with people because you never really meet comedians in in London gigs.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Or you barely.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Well, when I gig, I just feel like everyone goes home immediately and you'll just never you never really get to chat.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Or I'm thinking about my set, or they have to think about their set as well.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's definitely true.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: So you're just like, nah.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: Actually, thinking about it, yeah.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Like most promedians like sit in the green room and just like they'll sit in hit list literally this room and just be like and this is my set.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: How have you been?
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, cool.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: Where's Edinburgh?
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: You go up to Brooks Bar, uh I can't do Brooks Bar.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: I hated it.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Brooks Bar was horrible last year.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: I bet.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: It was all 18-year-olds.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Must have been so busy.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: It was all like 18-year-old actors in there.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Oh dear.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: It's not cool anymore.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: But so like most people were either hanging out downstairs in that bit.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Like in the like cafe.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was quite nice.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Or or people were going to um what's the other one?
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Loft.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: Not really loft.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: Um, Abattoir?
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Abattoir?
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: No.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Can't remember the name of it.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Uh the one with the one with the like the little club inside.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Little club Oh, um Assembly?
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Assembly, yeah.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Assembly.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, people were going there as well.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: That one.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: That's quite nice.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: The assembly bar on the left side, which is very fancy.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: But because like everyone had their passes, we were all going in there.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: And it was just like private.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: It was like quite nice.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: So I got I got so much FOMO about that part of Edinburgh, but not about anything else.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: I mean, you still didn't miss anything.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: I probably didn't.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: You didn't miss it.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: It was just like people just sitting around going, and how is today?
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that is true.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: There is a lot of that chat.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: So I saw it.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: I saw you 12 hours ago.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like, yeah, same old.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Struggling to get numbers.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Same old.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: Flowers aren't showing up, great.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's a lot of that.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: A lot of.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Oh, is your tech not working?
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Cool.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Mine either.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: What a life.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: What a time to be alive.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: What a time to do comedy at the fringe and spend thousands for a subpart experience.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: So you're not going up at all this year, and you're not going to go for like two days to do this.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: I looked into it last year and it was like so.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: You were considering it last year.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: It's so expensive to book anywhere.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: Even like the cheapest Airbnb would be like 30 minutes away, it's still like 100 quid a night.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: It's like, what?
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: I was just like not having it.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: No.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: I'm not paying 100 quid a night to go up there.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: No.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: And then plus trains, plus all the food, plus shop.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the food is one of the things I couldn't believe how expensive it was.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: That was probably the thing that cost me the most up there.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: You just end up eating a lot.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was trying to eat like Tesco mealed it was every day.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: And even then it still is.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: How many times have you done it?
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Solo shows three three shows.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: And then I've be I was up there for some amount of time between 2010 and 2019.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's too many.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: It's just like it became part of my life.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Oh, I'm gonna spend a month at the fringe every year, no matter what.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: I was talking to Jordan Brooks the other day, and he was like He said he's 12 years into stand-up now.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: And he's not like he's got no plan to take a show up this year.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Just because it's just like he's like he's got no need to anymore.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: Trevor Burrus, Jr.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: No, he's finally uh over it.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: Which makes sense.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: But now he's directing stuff.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, directing is a good racket.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: I might get into it.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: I think my agent asked me about, well, would you like to direct?
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: I think you'd be a good director.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: I think I'd be good if uh if I really cared about the actor.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Then I'd just be like, oh whatever.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think you've got to pick someone that you like.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: What I really want to do is not not direct, but just be a mental coach, life coach for Life Coach.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: And I think that would actually be more valuable than my director.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, honestly, like some half the comedians need it.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they they really do.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: They just completely unravel in Edinburgh.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Whereas Whereas I've I've I've set up a thing where you're like, come to me every day.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Just each act will come in.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: You give them advice.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: I did that.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: That would be great.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: That would be great.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: It funds your time up there.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think that that is that isn't there's a demand for that, I think.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: Oh, there definitely is.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: A lot of comedians fall back on on the techs as as they're like, Yeah.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: And the tech is just like, I'm a tech.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: I don't like I'm a tech.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: I get a lot of it, but I don't mind as well.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: I quite enjoy that.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Well you because you s you you know the world so well, you'll you you'd be quite useful as uh like a but it also isn't in your re it isn't like you're not being paid for that.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: That's fine.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: I think it's half a tech's job, to be honest.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: It's like the support act on a tour.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the support act must get a lot of that.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: Emotional support.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: Have you had a support act before?
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: No.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: Uh when I did I only did a small tour and I just thought, what's the point?
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: Like you're s it's so expensive anyway.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Have you been a support act?
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Only only not like not for like a whole tour.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: No.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: I've only for like one one gig because I th Oh Hal Crutenden was with the same agent as me.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: And it was very much like, oh, just put anyone on the books as my support act because I just don't have anyone.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: And it yeah.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: It's not quite the same as someone handpicking you.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: That's alright though.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's alright.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Uh it was a terrible gig.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: I mean it was in Cambridge, which is the worst place to do As you've told me before.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: Terrible.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: You've told me Cambridge is the is the worst place to gig.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: Well, this is when I came off stage and the venue manager was like, yeah, these people suck.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: The audience suck here.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: They really they really hate comedy.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: I was like, good.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: Cheers.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: Did you say Oxford was a good place though?
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: Oxford, I uh Oxford, I've not done any tour shows in Oxford actually.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Um but Oxford is generally quite good for comedy, right?
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: Because they have um the uh what do you call it?
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: Jericho Comedy.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, of course.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: I used to do a lot of their gigs and they were great.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: And they once did a little like a There was one, they did a Mind Mind G a Gala for Mind, which where every actor had to do five gigs across a day.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: And that was really nice.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: All the gigs were really nice.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: And the big one at the end was like, that was a really nice gig.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: Oh nice.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: So Oxford, yeah, good.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Also good Cambridge bad.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: Cambridge bad.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: But also you've probably got like memories of Cambridge and everything as well.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: Do you not enjoy your time there?
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: Uh I didn't enjoy my uh year of studying.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: Of course it was only a year.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but I did comedy there afterwards for like six years, I think, in Cambridge.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: Six years I did comedy in just in Cambridge.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Uh you were living there the whole time.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because I grew up in Cambridge, so I didn't know home and then I was renting a place and then I moved to London.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, right.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so that's why I was the uh that's why I was able to do comedy there.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: Because I didn't discover it when I was studying.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: So I was just living there doing comedy.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: It was great.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: I mean the gigs were amazing in the student scene.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: You my first gig was to probably a hundred people and like twenty-one and the same the same reference points as you, the same age as you.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: They're pretty subortive.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was a good gig.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: What good what got you into comedy then?
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: I just signed up on the way.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: I I was at there's a really good gig in Cambridge called the Wolfson Howler, which used to be run by which was set up by an agent or someone who became an agent at Avalon.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: I think it might have even been Chris Lander.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: I think Chris Lander set it up.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: The famous Chris Lander, yeah.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: Uh and um it just has a really good rep because of that, and it's been going for like twelve years.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: And when I first saw it, Ed Gamble was comparing and he was like the resident compare, despite not really having connection with it with Orson in any way.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: Um and it was Chris Addison was headlining.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: Oh nice.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: And Phil Wang was uh still in his second year and doing a set, and he was incredible.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: And Liam Williams was doing a set.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: I think he just graduated, he was coming back.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: And it was just an incredible gig.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: First gig?
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I saw that gig.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: And then I was I happened to be sitting next to a guy who runs a gig in Cambridge, uh who I met, his name was Charlie, and he ran Clare Comedy, and he was like, Oh, come along to Clare Comedy, so I did.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: And then they were like, uh, there's a sign-up sheet for comedy for new acts at the back.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: If you want to sign up onto the mail list for as a new act, just put your email down.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: And I was like, okay, I'll do it.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: So that that whole series events.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: I guess seeing seeing someone like Phil, who's also Chinese on stage, definitely like helps enforce subconsciously, I think.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: I never really made the connection, but like subconsciously, it's definitely like, oh, okay, I could do that.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's really cool.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: Pretty cra pretty random.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: I think I only went to see that game because Chris Addison was headlining.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: And it was here in the loop came out.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, I was gonna say, like, how I wondered how you knew him in the loop.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I guess.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: The same year in the it was only a few weeks after In the Loop came out.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: So I was like, wow, oh, uh Chris Allison's headlining.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's go see let's go see it.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: That was like such a key moment in comedy as well.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: So impactful.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: Complete chance.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: Because if I didn't go to that gig, I probably would have never started.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: And if I hadn't been sitting next to Charlie, I don't think I would have ever started.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of things that went well, like just happened to like land.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: I kind of have that as well, where I um I my friend asked me to go to a UCB show and then like because I went to that uh to see like just a random show, I was like, oh, this is cool.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: I like this.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: That's really cool.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: But then like I just kind of just started watching more improv stuff online.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Uh and then just got into improv and then from there I just like progressed slightly into everything else.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's so s some people they're like, I want to be a stand-up since I'm 13, but I was already like 21 and I had no idea.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: I think a month before the gig I had no idea stand-up was even really a thing.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Had no idea I was gonna do stand-up.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: I remember one only at my uni, only one guy from my uni was doing it at the time I remember.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: Um I don't know if he still does it actually.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Interestingly enough.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: I I won't say his name because he doesn't do it.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: Jimmy Carr.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was Jimmy Carr.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: He's a I'm that old.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, origin stories.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: It's weird.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Because I don't think I yeah, I don't think I would have been doing it.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: I don't think I would have considered it even.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: It's weird.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's weird to think, oh, if I had it went a slightly different way, completely different person, different life.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: And now like all my all the people I know are from comedy and my whole life.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: Even in the last two years of like since the pandemic and everything, since coming back into it, like everyone I know is just in stand up now.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: It's just weird.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: Um okay, so let's go uh get on to what uh you've come here to talk about.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: Oh yes.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Um I realize I've just left my notes in my bag, so I don't know what I'm gonna grab them.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm happy for you to do that.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: Two seconds.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: That's okay.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: I don't have notes, so I'm gonna see how well uh well I remember the film.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: I I didn't see what was the last film that you did uh Rocky Four.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: Oh nice.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: Joe Mandy came on to talk about Rocky Four.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: Is that the one with the Russians?
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: Is it Dolph Lundgren?
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's Dolph Lundgren.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: It's his first movie.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: No way.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: I th Oh wow.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: It was good.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: I enjoyed it.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen it in a long time.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen all of it.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: It's one of those ones which is on TV and I've seen bits.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: It's yeah, it was basically it's it's a good movie, but it's also one-third of the movie is montage.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: Like someone worked it out.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: It's a 90-minute movie and 31 minutes is montage.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think I saw a bit on TV maybe when in a hotel somewhere.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: There were a lot of montages.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: Oh great.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: Fantastic.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: Really, yeah.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: But Dolph is great.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: He's so good in it.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: I bet.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: I couldn't believe um Stallone was like in his late 30s in it as well.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: Which is really surprising because you don't he doesn't seem it.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: No.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: And he's been around so physically or just physically like that.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: I mean he looks good now, I guess.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: I would have seen that at 70.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: I don't know actually.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: He might still be younger than that.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: I reckon he's probably 70s.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, probably 70s, because Rocky was like 50, 50 almost 50 years ago now.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: 76.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: Wow, he looks good then.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he doesn't.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: He looks good for 76.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: Um So today, you you've come on to talk about Super Mario Brothers, the original, not the new one.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: 1993.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: 1993, yeah.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: What a time.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: What a time.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: You sent me a message the other, like, was it two days ago?
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: It was two days ago.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was like two days ago.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: It was like at 3 a.m.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: as well.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: I surprised you were awake.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: I'm always awake late.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: Well, I was awake because I'd just finished a movie.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: I don't know why I started it at 1 a.m., but I did.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: What made you watch it?
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Was it the fact that the new one the new one had just come out?
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: Someone, I think someone I know posted a video essay about the there was a sc script that was never version of it which was really good and never got released.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: So I was watching that and I was like, oh, maybe I'll just watch the original movie.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: Why not?
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: Did you so this script that never got released, uh did you were they talking about the whole thing then?
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I didn't finish the video yet, actually.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: Um but the because the film I think this film had went through so many rewrites.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's what I've been reading.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: Back and forth.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: The the whole law behind this is crazy.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: It's ridiculous.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: So it's got um twenty-nine percent on tomatoes from the critics and from the audience.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: Ooh.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, audience hate it.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: It's one of those double uh double scores.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: Audiences Audiences are usually a lot higher on movies.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: So for 29%.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: I remember hating this movie when I was younger.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Went back and rewatched it last night.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: Not as bad as I remember.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: No, it's not bad.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: It's not as an awful movie.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: It's actually like an okay movie.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: It's perfectly fine.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: It's it's that's why I'm so surprised.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: That's so low everywhere.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Like IMDB, it's a 4.1.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: It's not a 4.1 movie.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: No.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: No, it's it's like in a size six.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: It's quite solid.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: Like it's there's nothing particularly wrong about the movie and the way it's shot.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: Like you watch some movies from the 90s.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: Like, have you ever seen Johnny Mnemonic?
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: It's so badly shot.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: And even that's quite fun, but like that's so bad incompetently made.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: And you watch Super Mario Brothers, actually, this is quite a competently made movie.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: The camera, the camera work is generally good.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: The cinematography is generally good.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: The acting is generally good.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: The special effects in it for the time are good.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: Are good.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: It looks like a mid-late 90s movie.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: The only thing is, it came out um like a week or something before Jurassic Park.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: Jurassic Park, that would have hurt it.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: What is this like when you see those dinosaurs and you see these ones, you're like, oh, okay, I understand that.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: But obviously Jurassic Park is like the movie.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: In one of the movies that is touted to have held up in CGI.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: That is a movie that still warms up.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: I'm glad you felt the same because when I watched it, I was like, how is this a 4.1?
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: And I guess the the the curse of it is that it is a terrible Super Mario Brothers movie.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: I think that's what the biggest issue is.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: It's not about a Mario movie.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: No.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: It doesn't work as a if you're like, oh, I want to see a movie based on my favorite video game franchise about a cute little plumber who jumps up and downs gets bigger squammer, goes around a cartoon colorful world, and rides a cute Yoshi.
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: No, you're not gonna get that.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: You're not gonna get this at all.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: Did you so um the the one the script that they were talking about in that in that uh video essay?
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: Video essay, was it the one about the one where they're going on a road trip?
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: Maybe it was.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: I actually I can't really remember.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, because they've gone so many different ways with it.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: Apparently that was the first version of it.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: Um it might not have been the first one.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: I think I the only thing I remember of the video essay so far is that it wasn't actually finished, the script, because a guy showed up and was like, you have to deliver script now or or you've lost the job.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: So he just he just gave over what he had of it, which was like 90%, it had no ending.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: The original script was um, let me find his name.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: It's it's the guy that wrote Men in Black.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: Who wrote that?
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: Um it's a really good writer.
- 24:05SPEAKER_00: He's a really good writer.
- 24:05SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: Ed Solomon.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: And he's like he's quite active on Twitter as well.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: So I feel like if any of us reached out to him, he would like speak about it.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: It might be that one.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: I need to watch this full video, yeah.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, he's he's a really good writer and he's like, he's written uh let me find else what else he's written.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's because he wrote the so he wrote this original whatever it is.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: Bill and Ted, he wrote.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's fun.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: That he he would have made a good probably still not a good Mario movie, but uh an interesting one.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: So he wrote Bill and Ted, then he wrote um He wrote for Gary Shanling Show.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's cool.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: Uh and Charlie's Angels.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: Now You See Me.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: Now You See Me.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: Okay, now we're talking.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: Now you see me.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: What a film.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: So he's he's like He's a move he's a move and shaker.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: He knows how to write a script, isn't he?
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: Whereas these two these two writer directors that got given.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: A married couple, yeah.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: Apparently the worst couple in the casts set have said.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: So you did do your you did your research.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: I did a bit, yeah.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: Dennis Hopper said they were awful.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: Dennis Hopper.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: Well, they all said they were awful.
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: I think all the casts really.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: John Leguizama got continuously drunk because of them.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, they were just drinking before every take.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: They're all good in it.
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: All the actors are good in it.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've got no issues with any of the actors.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: Oh, great.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: The thing is, like, they would be a good set of actors in a real Mario movie if it was like written as Mario.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: I would enjoy that with all of them.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: It's interesting because yeah.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: Dennis Hopper's a great actor.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: I think he's good in this.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he is good.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: I think he's probably the best one in this.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: Probably, yeah.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: He's always reliable as a villain.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: Like, what's uh speed?
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: Oh, he's so good at speed.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: And that's that's a year after this.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: It's the same role, really.
- 26:05SPEAKER_00: Just a madman.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: I think what helped as well is he didn't know what he was like, he didn't know the character or anything.
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: He just like didn't know.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: He just played the character.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: Um But also it kind of worked for Mario and Luigi.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: They did they also didn't know what they were like stuck up to.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: You just have like quite a nice brotherly pair who have quite a fun rapport, really.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: It makes no like it makes no sense in the Mario world though.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: Like he he uh sort of like like do you Are you able to kind of like give the basic premise of the movie?
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: Oh, I'll try.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: I'll try.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: Um so they're just plumbers working in uh New York and In Brooklyn, Brooklyn.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Brooklyn, New York.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: And they meet uh Princess Daisy, who was dropped as a issue number one.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: Issue number one, yeah.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: Uh dropped as a baby and got born out of a dinosaur egg.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: Uh that's not explained, really.
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: It's not, it's really not.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: She's, I guess she is dinosaur who evolved.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: I guess all all the human dinosaurs are just humans.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: They're dinosaurs, but they look completely human, basically.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but one one thing that doesn't make sense.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: I guess we'll kind of talk about it later, actually.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: I'll go into it later when we explain like more stuff about it.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah, let's do that.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: Um and then she's they're trying to kidnap her because she's the daughter of the king, and she also has this rock which will uh merge the two worlds of dinosaur world and earth, uh, which they want because the dinosaur world is truly fucked.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: It's uh it's a real dystopia and kind of Mad Max-esque sort of demolition man future where everything sucks.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: And I kind of like that.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: I kind of like how it the the world is just the set is great.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the set is the whole that's I missed that from the 90s.
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: Real sets.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: Real sets, all that set, all the production design is really good.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: The fungus, the little tiny dinosaurs, all the like different technology, like the the the rocket, the rocket, the boots, boot boots, the uh the guns, the bomb, uh all that is is fun.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: It's fun.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh we they put effort into this.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: They want to do it fucking around.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: I like the the shocking, like the little guns which shock people mildly.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: There's no uses, but they're the things that are never in any Mario game.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, nothing to do with Mario whatsoever.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: I kind of like that.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: I kind of respect all that, you know?
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: Why not?
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: I don't really have an issue with those, but like again, it it's only if it's only the fact that it's not.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: If this was not called Thomas Brothers, it would be anything else.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: It would be a fine movie.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: No one would have any issue with it.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: And I think people like like you did, if they rewatched it now, they'll be like, actually, yeah.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, comparatively compared comparatively to the compared to the other uh like video game adaptations, it's not bad.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: No.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: It it it's some real bad ones compared to this.
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: They've made a movie.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: They've made quite a solid act uh action adventure, really.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: It has a venture.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: It's like adventure all the way through.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: It's funny at times.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: It's quite exciting.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: Oh I guess I guess the main thing that makes it work is Alan Silvestri's soundtrack.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: I think it's really good.
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: I think it just adds a it just kind of works in its own way.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: Again, like nothing to do with Mario.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: No, nothing.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: Nothing.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: It's just its own own thing.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: But also I don't think the Mario soundtrack would like the would work in this.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: You couldn't make a a live-action Mario movie, so you might as well make it completely different.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: But imagine trying to stay true to in a live action.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: Imagine trying to make it.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: Have you seen the new one?
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: Not yet.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: I've heard mixed things.
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've heard it.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: It's yeah, it's very average, apparently.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was just a disappointment.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: You kind of wish it was very bad or it's just an average.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: But it's made so much money.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: It's made a ridiculous amount of money.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, apparently it will be the highest grossing.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: Animated of the year.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, fair enough.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: Fair enough.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'll see it.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: I'll see it at home.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: I won't I won't pay to go so much.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: Well, I've got all these everyman tickets that I need to get rid of.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: So I I I got the Everyman membership years ago, which is seven free tickets for like 90 quid.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: Which is like slightly cheaper than the Everyman's not cheap.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: It's like it's like, okay, and then you get a bit of discount, and also you get uh half price Mondays if you bring a friend.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: So on top of that.
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: But because of that, I never really I've been falling behind using up all my tickets.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: So I'll get to the end of the year and I'll be like, oh, I still have a few tickets left.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: And if you don't renew your membership, you will lose all those tickets.
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: I'd be constantly trying to chase those tickets.
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: And now I have about 15 at the moment.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: So they never run out then.
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: Not if you renew.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: So you have to keep renewing, but then you'll get another seven.
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: So I have to, I'm chasing that.
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: And now I'm trying to get rid of those so I can finally be free of the membership.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: It's so bad.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: Every time uh they just add seven on, I'm like, ah.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: And what's bad is also um if you if you don't renew, they they by default they actually get rid of all your tickets if you don't renew immediately.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: But every time I have to beg them to kind of reactivate the tickets, and they always do, but I have to beg them.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: I have to be like, oh, can you actually reactivate all the tickets, please?
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: And they're just like yes, even though in their fine print, it's like you will lose the tickets if you don't renew.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: What is it to them?
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: It's like it's one person, isn't it?
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, one person.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: And they'll get my custom.
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: They'll get 90 quid eight.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: So that's quite funny.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: Um although I did I did try to use two for John Wick the other day in the Everyman in Broadgate, and uh the woman thought I was giving her a comp card rather than membership card.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: A comp card is just the card which says two free tickets.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: And she took it and gave me g booked the tickets and then just threw my comp threw my membership card in the bin.
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: And then and I was like, oh my membership uh did you did you throw what do you do with my membership card and she was like, oh I I I thought it was a comp card, I threw it a bin.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: So she just got it out and it was it was fine because there's nothing else in the bin.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: And then she was like, oh yeah, in that case, I won't I won't take the card I won't take the tickets up.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: I just got two free tickets, and just throw it in the bin.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: So I thought I'm happy to get those, but also I want to get rid of these tickets.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: So that was two free tickets to dumb away.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: That was quite funny, really.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: I love that you're never gonna catch it.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: I will know eventually.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: I saw Dungeon Dragons last week.
- 33:04SPEAKER_00: How was that?
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: It was good.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: It was good, it was enjoyable.
- 33:07SPEAKER_00: It wasn't it wasn't ever amazing, I think.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: It was like, at max, a good film.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: Is it too meta?
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: No.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: That's my concern.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: No, I don't think it is actually very meta at all.
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: It's quite marvelousque.
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: It's quite it has a view quipp quipp.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: No, yeah.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: I think it's quite straight.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: It's all right.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: It's got really good reviews.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: I think it it is uh it feels like a a solid Marvel movie, really.
- 33:30SPEAKER_00: It's like it's it like 95% or something like that, something crazy.
- 33:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: It's really hard.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: But my all the reviews are like three and a half stars.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: So it's like it's everyone thinks it's a three and a half star movie or B a better.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: That is the issue with the Tomato scores.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: And I agree.
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: I think it it c I j I I was watching it thinking, oh, this c this I wish this was better at every point, but it is fine.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: I w I wish there were just more a better, a smarter plot or smarter smarter writing.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: But it just Because those guys did Game Knight and that Game Night was.
- 34:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Game Knight's so good.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: I don't think it's as good as Game Knight.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: I'm I think it was interesting.
- 34:05SPEAKER_00: I wasn't expecting it to be as good as Game Knight.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: I'm not probably not rushing to re-watch Dungeon Dragons at any point because nothing in it was like, oh, I really want to re-watch that again.
- 34:13SPEAKER_00: But it's got to be better than the original Dungeons Dragons.
- 34:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:16SPEAKER_00: I I yeah.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: It's it's generally a good movie and it's a fun watch.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: That was my introduction to the whole world of Dungeons and Dragons was the original movie.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: That's interesting.
- 34:25SPEAKER_00: That's an interesting way to that that's what I thought it was.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: How old were you when you saw that?
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: Uh whenever it came out, so I was like 12.
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 2000 or something, right?
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was like 11 or 12.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, it was 2000, I think.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: So I was just like, this is not my thing.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: Is Jeremy Irons in it?
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: I can't remember.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: I just remember Marlon Waynes is in it.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, Marlon Waynes.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: The only character I remember.
- 34:45SPEAKER_00: See, that looks much that's that film looks like ass now.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: Right, it just looks su uh such yeah, it just it just doesn't look good now.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: Films like that, they're just they they they just were terrible.
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: But speaking of those, like it's interesting because you you are a real gamer in terms of like board games and like video games.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: So is that kind of what uh like did you see the Super Mario movie when you were young?
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I had on video when I was five.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: Oh you had it on video?
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, five, I think.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: Oh right.
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: I played a lot of Super Mario when we got on the SNES.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, me too.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: I had Super Mario World, it was probably my favorite, and Mario 3 was decent.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: Super Mario World is still my favorite game to this day.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's great.
- 35:31SPEAKER_00: It's so good.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: There's just so many different things in it.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: Cape.
- 35:34SPEAKER_00: When you first learned how to fly as a five-year-old, I couldn't crack it for ages.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: And I was like, oh, you know that's because it doesn't teach you how to fly.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: No, it doesn't teach you anything.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: I'm surprised anyone could learn how to fly there.
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: It's so unintuitive.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: It's not yeah, because in Mario 3 you just like flap up and down on the uh is it the raccoon tail.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: I've never really gone through Mario 3.
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: It's good.
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: It's good.
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like I'm sure it is now, yeah.
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:00SPEAKER_00: And now like I've now I've got the switch and I go play back and play all the old like emulator versions on there.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're good.
- 36:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:06SPEAKER_00: Good games.
- 36:07SPEAKER_00: They're really good.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: What other Mario games does I have?
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: Uh I had Mario Paint.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: What do you have to do?
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: Just like just paint them.
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: You can just do whatever you wanted.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's not even a game.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: It's just it's just software, really.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: It's just called Mario Paint.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: Sticking his name on it.
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: Well, it was Yoshi's Island.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: Yoshi's Island was a really good one.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: That's fun with a gun.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: That was the other one I I used to rent that a lot, I remember.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: Which is weird.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: Like, it's it's so weird now thinking about renting Super Nintendo games.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I rented Donkey Kong, one of them, Country maybe, over and over again.
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: It was so hard.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: So those were the those were the two big games I had.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country were the two games I had that I remember playing non-stop.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: But I I loved those.
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: They were good.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: So when the movie came out, I was like, yeah, yeah, let's do this.
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: Let's do this.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: I'm sure that's probably what happened with me.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: I don't remember entirely like when I first saw it.
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: But you so you uh bought it on video and that was the first time you saw it?
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think so.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: I think so.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: Maybe I saw it in the cinema, but I those things blur.
- 37:13SPEAKER_00: I might have seen it on the cinema, but maybe.
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so you would have been more four, yeah.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: I probably did.
- 37:21SPEAKER_00: Maybe quite young.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: Maybe not.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: But I did see films in the cinema.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: I saw The Lion King in the cinema.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: That was one of the first I saw.
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: And the The Mask, I remember.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: I s yeah, the Mask.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: Did you ever play the game of the Mask?
- 37:31SPEAKER_00: No, I didn't.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, that is a good game, but that is so hard.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: That's hard now.
- 37:36SPEAKER_00: Games were so hard back then.
- 37:38SPEAKER_00: It's such a good game, though.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: It's like genuinely a good game.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there are a lot of good film games.
- 37:41SPEAKER_00: I remember the game.
- 37:42SPEAKER_00: Lion King game was good as well.
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: What's that?
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: Lion King game.
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: Lion King, never played it.
- 37:45SPEAKER_00: Aladdin.
- 37:46SPEAKER_00: That was a good game.
- 37:47SPEAKER_00: No, Aladdin was a good game.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: Really good platformer.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: Another hard one.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: That was a good platformer.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: Batman.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: Batman was a good one.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they were good.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they used to they they there were so many Titans back then, but like now they don't really do them as much.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: No.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: No.
- 38:03SPEAKER_00: I did see some kind of there was some video essay about that recently, I think.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: Oh, is that?
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: They were talking about all the the like superhero Titan ones.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: Um They were talking about like the old Spider-Man Titan games.
- 38:15SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, they used to look good.
- 38:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they were great.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:18SPEAKER_00: Spider Man 2.
- 38:18SPEAKER_00: Everyone loves Spider-Man 2.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:21SPEAKER_00: With PS2.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: They were saying like that was kind of like the last true time of like proper video game Titans.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: Because then then they went they showed like an Iron Man one and it was so bad.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: It's really bad.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: It's like it doesn't make sense as well.
- 38:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, interesting.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: It's just so rushed out.
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: Oh great.
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: I didn't even know there was an Iron Man one.
- 38:41SPEAKER_00: That's quite funny.
- 38:44SPEAKER_00: It's got like nothing to do with it.
- 38:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: You can tell that they've just like taken like a s they've just taken the skin of something as like stuff.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of that.
- 38:53SPEAKER_00: Because they always rush them out to get them out in time of film, but it's like just not well organized.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: Can't make a game to that schedule.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: I'm surpr I'm kind of surprised that they didn't do some kind of like tie into this Mario game uh movie.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: That would have been interesting, yeah.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: I've heard I've heard that they've kind of like trying to set up a universe though of Nintendo games.
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: Nintendo games to movies now.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: That would be that's smart.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: So they're trying to do they might do a I've heard that they want to do a Donkey Kong one.
- 39:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:23SPEAKER_00: Which would be good.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: Zelda.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: Zelda, yeah, obviously a Zelda one.
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: I think they said Metroid as well.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, that that that would be interesting.
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: Um Kirby.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: Kirby would be a good one.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: But it's all it's all within like that minions universe as well, though, that's the problem.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: It's the Illumination people that own them.
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: Which kind of concerns me.
- 39:45SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
- 39:46SPEAKER_00: Not ideal.
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: I feel like they're gonna stick the minions in these game in these like actual games now.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: Like we'll probably get minions in Super Smash Pro.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, definitely.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, almost certain.
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: And it would work.
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: People would love it.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: People would play it as a meme.
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're like throwing bananas.
- 40:05SPEAKER_00: People would do it.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: God.
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: That's the one game I'm always so bad at.
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: I'm bad at Smash, actually.
- 40:11SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 40:11SPEAKER_00: I've never owned uh Smash as a as a game.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: I own it now, but I very rarely play it.
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: I play I play it occasionally when I have Bruce's and he's Yeah, he's much better.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: I can't play against him.
- 40:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's very good at it.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: And I can't I can't do it.
- 40:28SPEAKER_00: Can't do it.
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: I played multiverses for a bit.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: That was quite a fun game.
- 40:32SPEAKER_00: It's the DC.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: Multiverses.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: It's like who's it?
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: Warner Brothers Smash Clone.
- 40:37SPEAKER_00: So you can play as like Batman, Wonder Woman, but you can also play as uh LeBron James because of Space Jam 2.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: You can also play as Finn and Jake from Avengetime.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: Oh, that would be good.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: You can play as Bugs Bunny stuff.
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: It's quite a good game.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: It's quite a fun game.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: I think it died out a bit, but.
- 40:54SPEAKER_00: I've not even heard of that one.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a free It's free on PlayStation and PC and everything.
- 41:00SPEAKER_00: Have you played the Nintendo?
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: uh not Nintendo, the um Nickelodeon one.
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: No, I haven't.
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: That looks good as well.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that looks like a good little like game of like a good group of people.
- 41:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 41:09SPEAKER_00: Um I don't know.
- 41:12SPEAKER_00: I've I've fallen off gaming so much.
- 41:14SPEAKER_00: It's quite hard to find time for it.
- 41:17SPEAKER_00: The last game I was really addicted to was Animal Crossing during the pandemic.
- 41:20SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, but that was everyone's yeah.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: I never played it actually.
- 41:25SPEAKER_00: I just missed that on the Nintendo.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: I feel like you would have really got addicted to it.
- 41:29SPEAKER_00: See my issue is I I had a SNES, and then after that, I don't think I've owned a single Nintendo console.
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: Oh no, that's wrong.
- 41:35SPEAKER_00: I had a Game Boy Advance and then Yeah, then moved over to Xbox.
- 41:42SPEAKER_00: Oh you're an Xbox.
- 41:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then I got a PS4 in my adult.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: So I just had that.
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: I just had a Is that the last thing you bought?
- 41:51SPEAKER_00: The last console I bought, yeah, a PS4.
- 41:53SPEAKER_00: My girlfriend has a PS5, which is and she got it for free, which is good.
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: She got it because she was doing a job for these guys were making uh a production of Hamlet but in GTA 5.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: They were they were using the GTA, they were in-game in GTA 5 filming Hamlet.
- 42:14SPEAKER_00: Filming them doing Hamlet.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: It's a really cool, fun, fun idea.
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: And she was uh a failure.
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: So they were able to like her to have a PS5 to play it.
- 42:25SPEAKER_00: So I think the BFI funded sponsored them and funded that.
- 42:29SPEAKER_00: So the BFI paid for a PS5 in a time where it's very hard to get a PS5.
- 42:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, was it like right at the beginning of the No it was about a year ago now, I think.
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: I think it's quite easy to get one now.
- 42:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:39SPEAKER_00: About a year ago it was still a bit hard to get a PS5.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: Now now you can get one.
- 42:44SPEAKER_00: My brother got a PS5, but that's the only time I I've ever played it.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:48SPEAKER_00: I never play it.
- 42:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:50SPEAKER_00: I was playing the Switch over.
- 42:52SPEAKER_00: That was the last console I bought.
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: Um It's a good console.
- 42:56SPEAKER_00: That's like That's all I need.
- 42:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Switch has interesting games.
- 43:01SPEAKER_00: PS5 you can kind of get every game on PC except for the yeah.
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I have a PC as well, so like if I want anything specific, I can go to that.
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: But I have no need anymore.
- 43:11SPEAKER_00: No.
- 43:12SPEAKER_00: No.
- 43:12SPEAKER_00: Fair enough.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: Fair enough.
- 43:15SPEAKER_00: What are you uh what board games are you playing at the moment, actually?
- 43:18SPEAKER_00: Mostly Blood on the Clock Tower, which is a good thing.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, you've been streaming it, haven't you?
- 43:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've been streaming a bit, uh which has been fun.
- 43:24SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 43:24SPEAKER_00: If uh if people want to find you on streaming as well, like what what's um Kencheng comedy on Twitch.
- 43:29SPEAKER_00: On Twitch, yeah.
- 43:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, check it out.
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: Uh see how that goes.
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: I think the fans of this this game are very ardent, so it's quite good to find designation to try and build on that.
- 43:40SPEAKER_00: But did you get a lot of viewers in from there at all?
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: A huge amount, but more than sometimes a lot of bookers yeah.
- 43:47SPEAKER_00: Sometimes my first couple of streams were were quite good, and I had an average of 30, although it's time a bit.
- 43:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: What's it been like on Twitch since like everything's come back?
- 43:59SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: I feel steader, but I I've only been I've only come back for Blunt the Clock Tower room.
- 44:05SPEAKER_00: So it's quite a weird little pocket.
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: If anyone raids me, I'll be they'll be like, what the hell is this game?
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: And immediately people have raided me.
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: I'm like, oh please don't do that.
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: No, it's fine.
- 44:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, whenever I got raided, it was always the worst possible time.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:24SPEAKER_00: I can't explain what this is.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: But yeah, ball games, yeah.
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: It's great.
- 44:31SPEAKER_00: There was a game I was playing during the pandemic.
- 44:34SPEAKER_00: Um what was it?
- 44:36SPEAKER_00: Uh it was the game where um you you can like adjust the screen like based on like the the based on the way you're looking, uh things adjust on the screen to like the size of things.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: Um I can't remember the name of it.
- 44:53SPEAKER_00: Oh, I think but I got raided by the developer of it.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: Oh wow, that's cool.
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: And he was like, hey, do you want um do you want a free soundtrack?
- 45:00SPEAKER_00: I'll give you I'll give you a soundtrack for free.
- 45:01SPEAKER_00: And he like sent sent a link to it and I was like, cool.
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: That's really nice.
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: I wish I could never remember the name of it now.
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: It was like two years ago.
- 45:08SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 45:08SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: But that was the weird that was the weirdest one.
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: Like he wrote him and like it's weird.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: It's just very odd time.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:17SPEAKER_00: I I want to do more streaming, but also hearing stories of it, I think people don't really enjoy it long term and burn out.
- 45:27SPEAKER_00: I think everyone's burnt out, yeah.
- 45:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: I remember Glenn Glenn.
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: I never saw a Glenn stream.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's fine.
- 45:34SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, Glenn Moore, comedian who did quite well streaming, and then uh what I remember seeing him just before he stopped, basically, and he was just like, yeah, I'm burned out.
- 45:43SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna stop.
- 45:43SPEAKER_00: And he just completely stopped.
- 45:45SPEAKER_00: Like he was doing it four days a week solidly, and he was gaining he gained loads of momentum and it just stopped completely.
- 45:51SPEAKER_00: And that's it.
- 45:52SPEAKER_00: What was he streaming?
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: Uh just games.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: He did a challenge where he had to play a hundred games in a year or something, completely.
- 45:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, I do remember this, yeah.
- 45:58SPEAKER_00: I don't think I ever saw it ever actually saw it, but I do remember that.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: He just played different games.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: And he had like 70 viewers, 80 viewers, it was like solid.
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: Or 50 to 100.
- 46:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 46:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's a tough old game.
- 46:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, unless you're limiting, you're like, it's tough.
- 46:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:14SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 46:15SPEAKER_00: He's the only like true comedian streamer that's like got to like thousands of people watching every day.
- 46:21SPEAKER_00: It's incredible.
- 46:21SPEAKER_00: It's very impressive.
- 46:22SPEAKER_00: Very impressive to do.
- 46:23SPEAKER_00: That's all he has to do now, though.
- 46:24SPEAKER_00: Like I don't I think Must makes so much money.
- 46:27SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: Although I don't know.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: I think he does.
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: I mean it depends what you mean by so much, but Yeah.
- 46:34SPEAKER_00: Because it's like it's it's monthly, isn't it?
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: That's the big thing.
- 46:37SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 46:38SPEAKER_00: That is true.
- 46:38SPEAKER_00: And it's I don't know.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: He gets paid in like bits and stuff.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 46:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 46:45SPEAKER_00: Bilau thinks he makes a lot.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: Bilau thinks he makes a lot.
- 46:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 46:49SPEAKER_00: I guess Bilau would know more as well.
- 46:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: He probably does.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: He's got he's always got like a hundred to a thousand to thousands of viewers.
- 46:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's always got at least when I look at it, it's always like at least a thousand.
- 47:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:02SPEAKER_00: So that's that's good.
- 47:02SPEAKER_00: In the in at like eleven a.m.
- 47:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:05SPEAKER_00: Who would have thought that gaming?
- 47:08SPEAKER_00: Do it.
- 47:09SPEAKER_00: He got in he got in at the right time and he's good at it.
- 47:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:14SPEAKER_00: But um okay.
- 47:16SPEAKER_00: We've we've we've veered a lot off the movie.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we've veered all off the movie, but um Is that normal in this podcast?
- 47:21SPEAKER_00: Very normal.
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: Very normal.
- 47:23SPEAKER_00: I always veer off.
- 47:24SPEAKER_00: It's me going on to like different topics.
- 47:27SPEAKER_00: Um we'll talk through the movie then.
- 47:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: Um Honestly, there's not a huge amount to talk through, but like we'll talk we'll kind of go through it.
- 47:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: Um Yes.
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, let's do it.
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: Let's analyze it.
- 47:38SPEAKER_00: Okay, so it opens opens with like this ominous theme music.
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 47:43SPEAKER_00: And then it like kind of cuts into like the sort of Mario style music.
- 47:48SPEAKER_00: It like fades into that.
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: So it's weird because it's like it wants you to think it's creepy, but then it also doesn't it doesn't it doesn't really know what it wants.
- 47:55SPEAKER_00: It doesn't commit.
- 47:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:57SPEAKER_00: And then it goes to a voiceover from uh from uh who does a voiceover?
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: It's quite a random actor.
- 48:03SPEAKER_00: But the actor, yeah.
- 48:06SPEAKER_00: It's someone big.
- 48:07SPEAKER_00: I was surprised that, oh, that person's doing the voiceover, but isn't it?
- 48:12SPEAKER_00: Um, it is someone quite interesting.
- 48:15SPEAKER_00: It's someone very interesting.
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: It's quite someone quite interesting.
- 48:18SPEAKER_00: It's like what It makes no sense.
- 48:20SPEAKER_00: Why have they done the voiceover?
- 48:22SPEAKER_00: Where is it?
- 48:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm trying to remember.
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: Dan Castellonetti.
- 48:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's it.
- 48:26SPEAKER_00: Homer Simpson.
- 48:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Homer Simpson's doing it.
- 48:28SPEAKER_00: And it's like he has nothing else to do in a movie.
- 48:31SPEAKER_00: No, he just he has a voiceover for about 30 seconds at the start and then never again.
- 48:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:37SPEAKER_00: That was definitely added in post that.
- 48:39SPEAKER_00: Do you think so?
- 48:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it just feels like someone went, oh, we have to kind of explain dinosaurs.
- 48:45SPEAKER_00: People are like, what is this?
- 48:46SPEAKER_00: I don't understand.
- 48:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:48SPEAKER_00: There's not not enough exposition in this movie.
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: No, there's actually a a a a massive lack of exposition for the first like 25 minutes that about what will happen.
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of exposition about Mario and Luigi's life, which is quite nice, but it it does it does start very slowly.
- 49:05SPEAKER_00: It does, yeah.
- 49:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the start is not really anything.
- 49:11SPEAKER_00: Nothing's happening.
- 49:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:12SPEAKER_00: Um there's a few things being dropped, but not really.
- 49:14SPEAKER_00: It can get it could skip a lot of the start.
- 49:18SPEAKER_00: But also, like they do the voiceover.
- 49:20SPEAKER_00: He does the voiceover, but it doesn't explain who the baby is getting dropped off.
- 49:24SPEAKER_00: No.
- 49:24SPEAKER_00: So at at first you're like, oh, that's Mario.
- 49:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:27SPEAKER_00: I wrote that I even wrote down I don't remember Mario being in an egg.
- 49:30SPEAKER_00: No.
- 49:32SPEAKER_00: It ain't.
- 49:32SPEAKER_00: It it's not the princess.
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: So it's the princess.
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: It's 20 years ago in Brooklyn.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: She's left to these nuns.
- 49:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: Who take her in and the egg hatches and you see the baby born.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: And they don't question that.
- 49:48SPEAKER_00: They don't question it, no.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: It's like, yeah.
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: It's normal.
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: For some reason it's normal in this.
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: Well they make the news at any point.
- 49:54SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's a baby who was born out of an egg just dropped our doorstep.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: Let's just keep that under abs forever.
- 50:02SPEAKER_00: And then it yeah, i I wrote down why is Mario an egg, because that's not in the Mario Law.
- 50:10SPEAKER_00: Although actually, is it in the Mario Law?
- 50:13SPEAKER_00: It's in Yoshi's Island, actually, isn't it?
- 50:16SPEAKER_00: It comes from an egg, doesn't it?
- 50:17SPEAKER_00: He gets hatch from an egg, isn't it?
- 50:19SPEAKER_00: No, wow.
- 50:20SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 50:20SPEAKER_00: Because when you're playing as Yoshi, you run along and then you um you try and save so when you save him, when he like falls away or whatever, you save him by like breaking the egg.
- 50:30SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 50:31SPEAKER_00: So maybe he is.
- 50:32SPEAKER_00: Maybe.
- 50:32SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 50:34SPEAKER_00: I don't know either.
- 50:35SPEAKER_00: I don't really remember, but like, yeah.
- 50:36SPEAKER_00: Maybe yeah.
- 50:38SPEAKER_00: I feel like Yoshi's Island is not a canon.
- 50:41SPEAKER_00: I think everything hatches from eggs in Yoshi's Island.
- 50:45SPEAKER_00: Um But then yeah, so it comes to present day and uh Marion, you see Marion and Luigi, they're broke plumbers.
- 50:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: They're down on the luck.
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: Down on their luck because they're a fun story in that sense.
- 50:55SPEAKER_00: It's like oh yeah, they're just shitty.
- 50:56SPEAKER_00: Their lives are so shitty.
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: It's so bad, yeah.
- 50:59SPEAKER_00: They're just Luigi's obsessed with like mystery.
- 51:01SPEAKER_00: Mystery UFOs.
- 51:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, mystery UFO UFO programs.
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: Um and they got rivals with their rivals are Scapelli, who are like these big plumbers.
- 51:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:12SPEAKER_00: I guess.
- 51:13SPEAKER_00: I had no idea.
- 51:14SPEAKER_00: Well, I couldn't tell who Scapelli was.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: It means like I thought it was the the mayor at some point.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: Is he it's nothing to the story.
- 51:22SPEAKER_00: It doesn't need to be in there.
- 51:23SPEAKER_00: No.
- 51:23SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of setup for Scapelli.
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: Uh which will pay off eventually.
- 51:27SPEAKER_00: I mean not really.
- 51:29SPEAKER_00: It doesn't need to be.
- 51:30SPEAKER_00: No.
- 51:31SPEAKER_00: Like they could have very well done that with just Cooper could have done the stuff that Scapelli does.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: Um And then you see Daisy, you meet Daisy, and she's dig she's like um uh what's the term?
- 51:44SPEAKER_00: Uh what's her job?
- 51:47SPEAKER_00: It's uh dinosaur.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: Dinosaur.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: Oh uh paleontologists.
- 51:51SPEAKER_00: Paleontologists.
- 51:52SPEAKER_00: Paleontologists.
- 51:53SPEAKER_00: She's Ross.
- 51:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she's Ross guns.
- 51:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she's looking they're looking for dinosaur bones in this in this construction site where the sc Scapellis are actually like build on it, however.
- 52:06SPEAKER_00: Again, makes no sense because I thought they were plumbers.
- 52:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:09SPEAKER_00: I don't know if they are plumbers.
- 52:10SPEAKER_00: I don't know what they are.
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: I thought Scapelli was like a mayor or something.
- 52:15SPEAKER_00: I thought he was the mayor.
- 52:16SPEAKER_00: I thought he was the rival plumbing company.
- 52:19SPEAKER_00: Trevor Burrus, Jr.
- 52:19SPEAKER_00: I thought he Yeah.
- 52:20SPEAKER_00: I can't tell, actually.
- 52:22SPEAKER_00: They never really make it clear.
- 52:23SPEAKER_00: No.
- 52:24SPEAKER_00: Scapelli.
- 52:26SPEAKER_00: Scapelli gets there first, basically.
- 52:28SPEAKER_00: So Mario Mario and Luigi are called out on a job to go there.
- 52:31SPEAKER_00: And Scapelli.
- 52:32SPEAKER_00: And Scapelli gets there first.
- 52:34SPEAKER_00: Which there's not a thing.
- 52:36SPEAKER_00: You don't call two plumbers out there.
- 52:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:39SPEAKER_00: But whoever gets there first gets the job.
- 52:46SPEAKER_00: But yeah.
- 52:49SPEAKER_00: Scapelli and his friends are No.
- 52:51SPEAKER_00: Is it Scapelli's follower?
- 52:53SPEAKER_00: No, it's Cooper's uh they're fun, I think.
- 52:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's Vitcher Stevens who I don't know if this is after Short Circuit.
- 53:02SPEAKER_00: It must be after Short Circuit.
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: Just doing Brown facing.
- 53:08SPEAKER_00: And he's like, you know what?
- 53:09SPEAKER_00: I'll play this silly dinosaur.
- 53:11SPEAKER_00: And they're quite fun, uh Spike and Iggy or whatever their names are.
- 53:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:14SPEAKER_00: I like them.
- 53:15SPEAKER_00: They're the two dumb goons.
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: It's like the the archetype of like it's what you expect the goons to be.
- 53:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 53:24SPEAKER_00: They're very dumb, um, but they're funny.
- 53:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're funny.
- 53:28SPEAKER_00: They have good rapport with each other.
- 53:29SPEAKER_00: Their lines are funny.
- 53:31SPEAKER_00: Do you watch um Succession?
- 53:33SPEAKER_00: I've only seen the first five episodes.
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: Because Fisher Stevens is in it.
- 53:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:38SPEAKER_00: He's had a great career, to be honest.
- 53:39SPEAKER_00: I f I forget he's in it.
- 53:41SPEAKER_00: I don't even think of it as him.
- 53:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:42SPEAKER_00: I don't really know what he's been doing for the last I'm surprised he's in Succession.
- 53:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was only I only thought about it.
- 53:49SPEAKER_00: Like, I was watching the episode from last from the other night yesterday.
- 53:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: And he's like a big role in it.
- 53:56SPEAKER_00: And I was like, I was looking through the Mario thing today, uh yesterday, and he was like, oh wait, Fisher Stevens.
- 54:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's there.
- 54:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's there.
- 54:02SPEAKER_00: I didn't even think about him.
- 54:03SPEAKER_00: Because he's so like he looks so different now as well.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen him in anything for like twenty years.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: He's like he's not a big role in it.
- 54:12SPEAKER_00: No.
- 54:12SPEAKER_00: But he's in it.
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, what is Fisher Stevens mostly known for, really?
- 54:16SPEAKER_00: Short circuit.
- 54:16SPEAKER_00: He's in a short circuit.
- 54:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:18SPEAKER_00: I feel like it's some other thing.
- 54:21SPEAKER_00: But also, like, we we think of him as a meme sort of.
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: He's in that episode of Friends.
- 54:26SPEAKER_00: Is he?
- 54:27SPEAKER_00: He plays one of Phoebe's boyfriends, I think.
- 54:29SPEAKER_00: No, maybe it's Monica's boyfriend.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: He is like a therapist who they who like it's like season one.
- 54:38SPEAKER_00: He's like a therapist who I think it's either Phoebe or Monica date is dating in that episode.
- 54:43SPEAKER_00: And he is really rude to all of them.
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: I don't remember this at all.
- 54:48SPEAKER_00: Because he like basically um psychologically unpicks everything wrong with them.
- 54:52SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 54:54SPEAKER_00: I don't remember that being him either.
- 54:55SPEAKER_00: That is him.
- 54:56SPEAKER_00: I I think it's him.
- 54:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it probably is.
- 54:58SPEAKER_00: I just don't remember it.
- 54:59SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen it in a long time.
- 55:00SPEAKER_00: I think he's also in an episode of Frasier, where he plays the guy who tests if Daphne is psychic.
- 55:08SPEAKER_00: Lots of one episode roles and stuff.
- 55:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:12SPEAKER_00: Great career.
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: I don't know what he did for the 20 years after that.
- 55:17SPEAKER_00: He's been around.
- 55:19SPEAKER_00: He was in um Master of None.
- 55:21SPEAKER_00: Was he?
- 55:22SPEAKER_00: No joke.
- 55:23SPEAKER_00: I couldn't believe that.
- 55:25SPEAKER_00: No, um uh Aziz brings him up in about that.
- 55:27SPEAKER_00: They talk about him in that fun.
- 55:30SPEAKER_00: They look they talk about him in short circuit.
- 55:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's fun.
- 55:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:34SPEAKER_00: Great, great.
- 55:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:36SPEAKER_00: But he's there.
- 55:39SPEAKER_00: Giving it his off.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: They're all giving they're all giving.
- 55:42SPEAKER_00: They really get into it.
- 55:43SPEAKER_00: As much as they hate hate the directors and probably the whole experience, they don't they don't slack off.
- 55:48SPEAKER_00: No.
- 55:49SPEAKER_00: They're not phoning it in.
- 55:50SPEAKER_00: No, no, nobody phoned it.
- 55:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but anyone phones it's a bigger one.
- 55:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Bob Hoskins is giving it very charming in the case.
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: I mean Oscar-nominated actor Bob Hoskins.
- 55:58SPEAKER_00: He's very charming in Mar in Mario, I think.
- 56:01SPEAKER_00: He's Oscar-nominated.
- 56:02SPEAKER_00: I think Dennis Hopper's Oscar nominated.
- 56:04SPEAKER_00: Oscar-winning, right?
- 56:05SPEAKER_00: Fisher Stevens is Oscar-winning for producing.
- 56:08SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 56:08SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 56:09SPEAKER_00: What did he produce?
- 56:10SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 56:11SPEAKER_00: That's a fun fact.
- 56:12SPEAKER_00: I love when people have won an Oscar for producing.
- 56:14SPEAKER_00: Like Brad Pitt won an Oscar for producing or something.
- 56:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 56:18SPEAKER_00: And now he's got one for acting as well.
- 56:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but yeah.
- 56:22SPEAKER_00: Let me find out what Fisher Stevens has won for.
- 56:24SPEAKER_00: That's quite fun.
- 56:25SPEAKER_00: I like I like when people are randomly Oscar.
- 56:29SPEAKER_00: Like the Dean in community.
- 56:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 56:32SPEAKER_00: But he's a really good writer.
- 56:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 56:34SPEAKER_00: He's a genuinely good writer.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: Fisher Stevens won an Oscar 4.
- 56:42SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 56:47SPEAKER_00: The Cove.
- 56:49SPEAKER_00: The Cove.
- 56:50SPEAKER_00: The documentary The Cove.
- 56:51SPEAKER_00: That's so random.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: What year was that?
- 56:55SPEAKER_00: 2010.
- 56:57SPEAKER_00: He's done well.
- 56:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 56:58SPEAKER_00: So that's what he's been doing today.
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 57:00SPEAKER_00: He's been producer.
- 57:02SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 57:03SPEAKER_00: Great life.
- 57:04SPEAKER_00: He was in the French dispatch.
- 57:05SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 57:06SPEAKER_00: I didn't know.
- 57:06SPEAKER_00: And Isle of Dogs.
- 57:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, he's in lots of those movies, isn't it?
- 57:09SPEAKER_00: Hail Caesar.
- 57:09SPEAKER_00: Hail Caesar.
- 57:10SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen that.
- 57:11SPEAKER_00: Grand Budapest.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: So he's he does a lot of Wet Anderson.
- 57:13SPEAKER_00: He does lots of Wes Anderson.
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: I've not seen him in any of those films.
- 57:17SPEAKER_00: Is he in Always Sunny?
- 57:18SPEAKER_00: Is he?
- 57:21SPEAKER_00: He does lots of like one episode things.
- 57:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he is in Fraser.
- 57:26SPEAKER_00: Dr.
- 57:27SPEAKER_00: Sheldon Mori.
- 57:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and he's the he's he's testing a bit anti-psychic.
- 57:33SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to find the Friends episode.
- 57:35SPEAKER_00: I think he's in Friends, yeah.
- 57:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Roger.
- 57:37SPEAKER_00: Roger.
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: Back in 1995, so yeah, like right at the start.
- 57:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I remember that.
- 57:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 57:42SPEAKER_00: He's uh Yeah, I do remember Roger now.
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 57:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: And then the other guy's Richard Edison.
- 57:51SPEAKER_00: Edison Richard Edison.
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: He's got a really familiar face, but I don't know.
- 57:55SPEAKER_00: I couldn't place him in anything.
- 57:57SPEAKER_00: I've not seen him in anything.
- 57:58SPEAKER_00: Um the one the one that I found surprising was Fiona Shaw.
- 58:01SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, she's placed the Waterface.
- 58:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:05SPEAKER_00: She gives her her all.
- 58:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:07SPEAKER_00: I didn't realise she was even in stuff back as far back as this.
- 58:10SPEAKER_00: No, me neither.
- 58:12SPEAKER_00: So funny.
- 58:12SPEAKER_00: Because I think of her as being from uh um what's it called?
- 58:21SPEAKER_00: Why am I forgetting everything?
- 58:24SPEAKER_00: Uh Harry Potter?
- 58:25SPEAKER_00: No, no.
- 58:26SPEAKER_00: Um Killing Eve.
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: I think of her as Killing E in from Killing Eve.
- 58:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:33SPEAKER_00: She's got a massive role in that.
- 58:35SPEAKER_00: She's she's doing she's glad to go career.
- 58:38SPEAKER_00: Steve Marrow Brothers.
- 58:39SPEAKER_00: How do you even get into a part like that when you're at that?
- 58:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:43SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, she's Aunt Pretunia.
- 58:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:46SPEAKER_00: I didn't even think of her as that.
- 58:48SPEAKER_00: No.
- 58:48SPEAKER_00: I've not gone back and watched Harry Potter in a long time, do I?
- 58:52SPEAKER_00: I watched them all relatively recently, like five years ago.
- 58:56SPEAKER_00: Because I'd never seen them all properly.
- 58:59SPEAKER_00: I saw them when they came out and then I never went back to them.
- 59:01SPEAKER_00: They're not very good.
- 59:03SPEAKER_00: No, I don't know.
- 59:04SPEAKER_00: They're not very good.
- 59:05SPEAKER_00: Uh some of the films are okay occasionally, but even the good ones aren't that good.
- 59:12SPEAKER_00: And the last four I really hate.
- 59:14SPEAKER_00: I just can't.
- 59:15SPEAKER_00: Oh, interesting.
- 59:15SPEAKER_00: I remember enjoying the last ones more than the first ones.
- 59:18SPEAKER_00: I think they're quite boring and bleak.
- 59:20SPEAKER_00: And I just can't I I enjoy the first four quite a lot more than the last one.
- 59:25SPEAKER_00: Well, number three is still my favourite.
- 59:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, number three is obviously Quaron, so he knows how to do it.
- 59:29SPEAKER_00: He knows what to do.
- 59:30SPEAKER_00: But I hate the time travel stuff.
- 59:32SPEAKER_00: I hate films where it's like, oh, it was you who did that thing earlier in the movie.
- 59:36SPEAKER_00: I shudder.
- 59:37SPEAKER_00: Obviously.
- 59:38SPEAKER_00: I hate that.
- 59:39SPEAKER_00: It doesn't make any sense.
- 59:40SPEAKER_00: None of it makes any sense.
- 59:43SPEAKER_00: So nothing mattered.
- 59:44SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 59:45SPEAKER_00: Nothing could have changed that.
- 59:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay.
- 59:47SPEAKER_00: So no no one had any agency.
- 59:49SPEAKER_00: Cool.
- 59:50SPEAKER_00: Doesn't make any sense at all.
- 59:53SPEAKER_00: I like it when they time travel, but you can't change anything in the past.
- 59:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 59:56SPEAKER_00: So it has to always happen.
- 59:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 59:58SPEAKER_00: It just has to be this way.
- 59:59SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 59:59SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_00: But uh that's a fun movie.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, Fiona Shaw.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_00: Fiona Shaw's in it, yeah.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_00: Uh as Lena, who is a character in Mario.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_00: Who is she?
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_00: So Lena is She's evil?
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think Lena is one of the I think Lena is the in Super Mario World, I think it's the female It's the girl character girl boss in one of them.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_00: Girl boss.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_00: In one of the castles.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_00: Like the only one that's a girl.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think yeah, because they're all yeah, they're all like that, aren't they?
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: That makes sense.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_00: I'm surprised they didn't make Daisy Peach.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_00: I don't really understand why.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_00: Because Daisy is a character, but like she's not one of the bigger.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_00: Maybe because Daisy's a woman's name.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_00: Peach is less of one.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_00: They just call it.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_00: I think they should have caught.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_00: I mean his name is Mario Mario.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_00: That is a fun joke.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_00: I really like that joke, actually.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_00: It's also it's also canon.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_00: Like that's a real thing.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_00: That's the way it's like, I'm Mario.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_00: I'm Mario Mario.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_00: And what's your name?
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_00: Luigi.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_00: Luigi Luigi?
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_00: No, Luigi Mario.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_00: He says it like a hand.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_00: Mario's are there.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_00: There's three.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_00: Mario Mario and Luigi Mario.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_00: That scene is very funny stuff.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_00: It is a good joke.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_00: It's so straight as well.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_00: The other comedy, it still works.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_00: It's not like terrible.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_00: I realize I keep going off track, but like uh Yeah, so Mario that Daisy's digging for the bones.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: The co the goons go after her.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_00: But they yeah.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_00: They spin edges.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_00: But yeah, they're wrong woman.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they get the wrong woman, but they go they follow her, but they like but m Luigi helps her by taking her, like giving her a ride.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, that bit, yeah.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_00: Which is how they first meet, and then they um he's like obsessed with yeah, he's obsessed with her.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_00: He's he's he's unable to talk.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: But okay, because they're young and hot.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_00: He ends up asking her on a date.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_00: They go on a uh they go on a double date to an Italian restaurant, because of course.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_00: Mario's got a girlfriend as well.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_00: Uh Daniella.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_00: Daniela, yeah.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_00: Could have been Peach.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_00: Could have been Peach.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_00: Could have been Peach.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_00: But having said all that, I think the all the female characters are reasonably strong in this movie.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_00: And I think I have no issue with the actual characters, it's just the name.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think I've read somewhere that they they specifically added more female characters and made them quite uh 3D.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_00: And I think that was quite quite a rare move in 1993.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_00: In 93, yeah, definitely.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_00: You have quite a lot of good female characters in it.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_00: Who are quite strong and capable.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's Daisy, Lena, and and uh Danielle.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_00: Daniela.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_00: Big Bertha.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_00: Big Bertha.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_00: Big Bertha, which we should go on to later.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_00: Great, amazing character to be honest.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_00: Fucking love Big Bertha.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_00: She's great.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_00: She's so cool.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_00: So basically what happens is they go on the dumpled date, but then uh Daniela gets kidnapped and Daisy gets kidnapped as well.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_00: Um no, sorry, Daisy gets kidnapped later.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_00: Daniela gets kidnapped first and then.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_00: She gets kidnapped first and they they don't So this is one issue, like they don't even think about it.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: No, they just see it home.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_00: She's home, I'm fine.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_00: Um But Luigi and Daisy go uh to the tunnel to sh-he got she goes to show him the the dinosaur bones.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_00: And at that moment, uh the scapellias fan.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_00: They run to they run to Mario to say, can you help us fix this?
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_00: That was a bit I just never could understand what was going on in that scene.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_00: Just like It's very chaotic.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_00: As a kid, I was like, what the hell has happened here?
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_00: Who who are those people?
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_00: They just run off.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_00: It makes no sense, yeah.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_00: That whole plot thread just never made any sense as a kid.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_00: I mean they could have had it that the four of them just went there.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_00: No, discapellies.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_00: Um get to do some plumbing.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_00: You get to do some hardcore plumbing.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_00: But they basically they end up jumping through the like the rock sand porcelain thing.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_00: Um but I wrote down here there's so much ADR in this scene.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_00: Because it's all like it's all off-screen.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_00: You can just hear them talking, but you can see you can tell that it's all like recorded separately.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_00: So you can't see them.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_00: You don't see their them talking, you just hear it.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_00: Magic of the thing.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_00: It's really bad.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_00: Magic of ADR.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_00: Um why not?
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_00: This is like still before the film has properly started.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's true.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_00: This whole section, yeah, you don't need it.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_00: The weakest part of the film, definitely.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_00: It's definitely the weakest part.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_00: But you find out that um basically 65 million years ago, uh the dinosaurs were exiled to this other world.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_00: Um and Cooper wants the King Cooper wants the meteorite back from Daisy.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_00: Uh because that will help.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_00: The rock.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_00: The rock.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_00: He's the only one that calls it a meteorite, and everyone else calls it a rock.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_00: Where's the rock?
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_00: But basically, by getting that back, he'll merge the two worlds again.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_00: Which is honestly like fair enough to him.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_00: Fair enough, yeah.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_00: It's been speculated for 65 million years.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he hates it.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_00: It's horrible.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't want to live in that world.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_00: There's fungus everywhere.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_00: Goddamn fungus.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's the reason for the fungus.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_00: Yes, he is the reason for the fungus.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_00: He should probably shouldn't have made all the fungus.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_00: In hindsight.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_00: In hindsight, yeah, and he could just reverse it.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_00: I love the campaign posters of Cooper where he's holding the baby.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_00: It's so cool.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_00: That kind of stuff.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_00: They put a lot of detail in.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_00: They put a lot of detail in that.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_00: You know what it reminds me of, actually, is um it's like it's two movies.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_00: It reminds me of Judge Dredd.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_00: Yes, Judge Dredd.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_00: It's a better Judge Dredd.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it is a better Judge Dredd.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_00: Judge Dredd.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_00: This is better than Judge Dredd.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_00: We were weird weirdly on the podcast last week we were talking about Judge Dredd as well.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_00: It's not awful.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_00: It's quite fun.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_00: I mean it's badly made.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_00: It's bad.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_00: It's still funny.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_00: I don't like it.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_00: You don't like it.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_00: I still find parts of it fun.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_00: I have them all.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_00: I think it's just so schlucky.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_00: I used to have this giant Judge Dredd statue that I got my aunt gave me because she used to work for the company that uh I think I don't know who made it at the time.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_00: I can't remember who made it.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_00: But whatever studio made it, like she just like got given it and she just gave it to me.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_00: Fair enough.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_00: But it was like it was really cool, but then like I saw the movie and I was like, this is not.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_00: I am not But um Yeah, so that they this is where you see the f they go through and you like you see the flying boots for the first time.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_00: Yes, big book is Big Bertha.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_00: Big Bertha takes the rock.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_00: No, first of an old woman.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_00: Old woman tries to rob them and then Big Birthday.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_00: She does rob them.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_00: And then just throws her over.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_00: Big Bertha keeps the keeps the rock.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_00: And then like gets in her flying boots and goes away.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_00: And then we meet Toad.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_00: Toad, who's uh musician.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_00: Toad is a it's a human hybrid sort of character that's like Yeah, it's unclear.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_00: But yeah, he's but he's got weird.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_00: Like they make it they make they cut his hair into like the shape of the mushroom.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_00: Toad he g he tells them.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_00: The three of them get arrested.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_00: Why do they get arrested again?
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't know why they get arrested.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_00: It's like no real reason.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_00: For plumbing or something, they say.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_00: I can't even remember.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_00: It's not that important.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_00: They just get arrested.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_00: I think it might be because of Toad.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, because he's uh he's protesting.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_00: He's doing like anti-political songs.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_00: He's uh he's also like a real musician, this guy.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_00: I can't remember who he is.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_00: Mojo Nixon.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_00: It's such a random casting.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_00: Why not?
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_00: At no point does he ever look like Toad the character.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_00: No, no, not even close.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I can see why if you're as a Mara fan, you'd be really angry at like this Toad character and what happened to him?
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_00: Toad doesn't look like the character, uh Lena doesn't look the character, Iggy and Spike don't look like the character.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_00: Bowser doesn't look well.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, well here's the thing King Cooper is the original name for Bowser.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_00: In the Japanese version.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_00: But there's also a Bowser in this.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_00: Who's the Bowser?
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_00: Bowser is Daisy's father.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_00: Oh, B that's Bowser?
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's Bowser.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_00: That's King Bowser.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_00: They say that.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_00: I didn't know that.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_00: They're listed as Bowser on this.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_00: That that is wild, to be honest.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_00: Which is weird.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_00: So wait, Cooper.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_00: There's Cooper and Bowser, but they're the same person.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_00: But they're also like rivals in this.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_00: Classic.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_00: Classic translation madness.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_00: It's like how Street Fighter, every all the characters.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_00: That's been on this as well.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_00: That's been on the podcast.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_00: Athena could only have defended that.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_00: I would have defended Street Fighter to us.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_00: You would have.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_00: Fun fun.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_00: It's bad, yeah, but it's fun.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_00: It's not.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_00: When was the last time you saw it?
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_00: Uh two years ago.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_00: Fair enough.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_00: That was the last time I saw it.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_00: To us, I just enjoy bad movies quite a lot.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_00: Fair enough.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_00: I enjoy them more than like the average bad movie from like the noughties or the tens.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_00: The average bad bad movie from the 2010s, terrible.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_00: Unwatchable.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_00: To be honest, yeah, these are much more watchable.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_00: There's something there's always like at least some kind of coherence to plot, at least.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_00: And the like the fight scenes are fine.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_00: Ryu kicks ass.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_00: She shredded down.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_00: It is fun, but it's just bad.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_00: No, it is a bad movie.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_00: It's definitely not a good movie.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_00: But I don't hate watching it.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_00: Whereas the right thing I'd rather watch that than The Street Fighter from 2009 or something.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_00: But then yeah, so basically they're all in jail, and then this is the scene where we get Mario Mario, Luigi Mario.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a great scene.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_00: Fantastic scene.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_00: And then Cooper King Cooper pretends to be.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_00: That's a fun scene.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_00: He doesn't need to do that, but he's not.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_00: No, it's cool, because then you get you get to understand him as a character.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and he's like, he calls himself an evil son of a bitch.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_00: They're both like slagging him off as well.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he goes them and slacking him up and starts like beating the shit out of him.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_00: It was great movie.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_00: And then he sends them to the uh machine where he like Yeah, the evil.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_00: Well, what was the name of the law firm he pretends to be at?
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_00: It's just a really it's like something Sauros and Co.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_00: It was something really long, wasn't it?
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, long, but one of the names.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_00: It's like it sounds like a normal law firm, except one of the names sounds like a dinosaur.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_00: Because we also learned that Cooper evolved from a T-Rex.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, he did.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_00: Which is why he's kind of like this, the whole he's like kind of got his arms shorter a little bit the whole time.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's a T-Rex, just a classic T-Rex.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_00: But we um Cooper de-evolves Toad.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_00: Umba, yeah.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_00: Uh which is where you get He looks insane, but I love it.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_00: All the Goomba design is amazing.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's really cool.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_00: Really off-putting.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_00: So it's like a tiny, tiny head, but like massive body.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, mas huge body.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_00: Amazing like for aesthetics.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_00: They're about like two or three feet above everyone else, aren't they?
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_00: And some of them have different shaped faces.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, some of them have got like crocodile faces, and then some of them have got like round.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_00: I don't know, it's like almost monster-esque sort of faces.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_00: But like Toad is the fa my favourite looking one because he's so he's so dim as well.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's just so confused.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_00: I I love those kind of characters where it's like really dumb but nice.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_00: It's like puppy dog almost.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_00: Um they but they'd knock him they end up knocking Cooper into the machine.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_00: And then they what they do is like they put him back one one one one evolution.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_00: One evolution, but it doesn't make a difference to him.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_00: No, it doesn't really.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_00: Which I don't understand why that happened.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_00: I thought they were actually doing something to him.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_00: I don't know if he escaped in time or something.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, maybe.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_00: Um But yeah, like at this point you uh they steal a police car, they go on a chase.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_00: That's a really good action.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_00: It's a really good set piece.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_00: And the whole argument about which way they should go.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_00: Because you get to see like the whole uh world as well.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_00: Um they're driving through.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_00: And the weird thing is they have those police cars, but they've all got the um uh like the rails attached to the crazy.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're attached to the rails.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_00: But they all have I thought they were I thought they broke that off, but then you see like all the police cars have that.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, I don't know.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_00: So I don't really understand.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_00: But it's cool.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_00: It's a good chase, isn't it?
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a solid chase scene.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_00: And then they end up on top of another car.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that bit's good.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_00: So many good bits, actually.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_00: It's a yeah, impressive set piece for all the set pieces in this are really good.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_00: It's not easy to make a scene like that.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_00: They're not they're not they're not fucking around there.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_00: Um find out.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_00: Forty-eight million in 93.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_00: That's a lot, yeah.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_00: That's one of the most expensive movies of the state.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_00: That's a very expensive movie.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_00: There's like the probably the only ex more expensive movie is like Terminator 2, really.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_00: Do you know what it grossed worldwide?
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_00: Uh like 35 million or something.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_00: 20.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_00: Uh I thought it made a profit.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_00: It did not.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_00: Not even half its budget.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_00: No one wanted to see that.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_00: No wonder it took until this year for it to go over another one.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_00: They were so tainted.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_00: Video game movies, they just didn't they didn't sell.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_00: No, they did not sell.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_00: Not enough people were playing video games back then.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_00: I think if they'd done it another five years later, it would have been much bigger.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_00: And also if the trailers were good, I guess.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_00: But yeah, so Cooper's uh Cooper's in his uh like mud bath.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_00: Which is quite a funny scene.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_00: It's him and Fiona in there.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_00: Um and then he puts the he puts Iggy and Spike into the machine and makes them advanced.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're just like ridiculously smart now.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_00: That's fine.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_00: Character development.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_00: And we find out that Daisy's mother smuggled her and smuggled to Earth and you get to meet Yoshi for the first time.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_00: Yoshi, who's this little little creature.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_00: Just a dinosaur.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just a little dinosaur.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_00: Tiny dinosaur.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_00: But he's very sweet.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I like Yoshi.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_00: But he looks terrifying.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_00: No, yeah, he's not.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_00: He's not cuddly like.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_00: He's not like the real Yoshi.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_00: He does nothing with his, he doesn't have the tongue or anything.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_00: He does.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_00: He uses his tongue, but he doesn't have like that.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a it's a long tongue.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_00: I remember Mario cartoons as a kid, and there were definitely some where Yoshi could talk and some.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_00: There were, weren't there?
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_00: There were a lot where Yoshi could talk, and they were quite fine.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_00: It's cute Yoshi just talking.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah, you don't really back then you weren't really gay other than like babe.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_00: I can't really think of like talking animals.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_00: This was pre-babe.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_00: They don't think can we make this animal talk?
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_00: They're more focused on making human hybrids of animals.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so they basically like they go to the club to find Bertha.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_00: He charms her.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_00: And it's like it's yeah, Mario is a charmer.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_00: It's like and he says uh No woman can resist the charm of a Mario.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_00: And it's true.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_00: She can't because she punches him in the face.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_00: And then he's like, okay, I'm going to go back for round two.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_00: And he's like, can you punch me again?
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_00: Again.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_00: And he's like, okay, fair enough.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_00: Let's do that.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_00: Mario's intermediate.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_00: It's canon now.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_00: It's totally canon.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_00: He just loves getting here.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_00: But they dance and he takes it.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_00: What's the lyric?
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_00: It's like something dinosa it's got dinosaurs.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_00: No, no.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_00: First of all, it's like a really sexy kind of song.
- 1:16:33SPEAKER_00: And then when he gets it back, that's when they cut to like the dinosaur song.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, dinosaur song.
- 1:16:38SPEAKER_00: I remember that song very well from childhood.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_00: It's a song I always hated.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_00: It wasn't written for this, was it?
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_00: Don't think so.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_00: I think it's just a dinosaur.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_00: They just looked for a song which had dinosaur lyric, and they're like, let's play that in the let's play that in a club.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_00: Because it doesn't make any sense why they were because they are all dinosaurs.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, like if we were like just in the club playing like a song about humans, the lyrics are all about humans.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so they escape with the boots, he puts on the boots, and then they it cuts and you see them put on the iconic Mario outfits.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_00: Well, that's not yet, is it?
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_00: That's when they're in the tower.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_00: I must have missed out some points.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_00: Must have been like, this isn't important.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_00: I think they probably get into the tower quite quickly after that.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's nothing I don't really right now.
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, basically they just escape and they put on the boots.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_00: But this Yeah, right, they escape into the tower, put on the iconic outfits.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_00: Oh, they're fun.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_00: And they do this hand thing, which is never explained, but it's quite nice when they go gla.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_00: I used to think of that as a kid.
- 1:17:48SPEAKER_00: And then never never explain at any point why they do that.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_00: Has no relation to Mario.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_00: Nothing.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_00: But it's quite nice that it will occasionally go with each other's hands.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it'd be nice if they added it into the games.
- 1:18:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, then the the outfits and that bit is classed to us.
- 1:18:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I really like that.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_00: It's so class.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_00: It's like finally it finally feels like a Mario movie.
- 1:18:13SPEAKER_00: Luigi teaches the Goombas like from the back to the book.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_00: They love dancing.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_00: It's all they care about.
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_00: While this is happening, um Lena attacks Daisy.
- 1:18:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:18:28SPEAKER_00: And Yoshi saves her.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_00: But Lena stabs Yoshi in the neck.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_00: That's harsh.
- 1:18:33SPEAKER_00: It's very sad.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_00: I was always saddened by that.
- 1:18:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_00: It's quite tough.
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_00: But look, Daisy just like abandons him.
- 1:18:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:18:41SPEAKER_00: She abandons him.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_00: Uh but then goes on to save Toad.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Toad gets flamethrowered.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_00: He he he's come to give her a vegetarian meal.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_00: He goes to give her meat, like raw meat, first of all.
- 1:18:55SPEAKER_00: And she's like, I'm a vegetarian.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_00: Can you get me steamed vegetables?
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_00: And he's like, yeah.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_00: The toad, when he goes on fire and the way he flips the food, it's just so comical.
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_00: Oh no.
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_00: But in a way you do feel sad for Toad.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_00: Toad's on fire.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_00: I do love this toad.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_00: The thing is, I love this toad, and I don't like Toad in the games.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_00: Oh, in the games.
- 1:19:17SPEAKER_00: You don't like it?
- 1:19:17SPEAKER_00: I'm not a fan of Toad in the fine.
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_00: Why is that?
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_00: I always find him annoying.
- 1:19:21SPEAKER_00: He's a bit arrogant, isn't he?
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_00: I always find him really annoying.
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_00: I don't like when people kick him as well.
- 1:19:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean he's very powerful in Mario Kart.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_00: He's very uh very strong.
- 1:19:29SPEAKER_00: He's too good.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_00: He's too good.
- 1:19:31SPEAKER_00: I don't really know what Toad's defining features are in the game, to be honest.
- 1:19:34SPEAKER_00: Can you play him in Mario Know you can't play him in Mario 2, I think.
- 1:19:40SPEAKER_00: Maybe.
- 1:19:41SPEAKER_00: I don't remember.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_00: Mario 2 is a weird game.
- 1:19:43SPEAKER_00: I only remember him in Mario Kart.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:19:48SPEAKER_00: And then like being around Mario 64.
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_00: And like when you talk to him in Mario 64, he's really annoying.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_00: Again, I had the SNES.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_00: Classic.
- 1:20:02SPEAKER_00: It holds up today.
- 1:20:02SPEAKER_00: They didn't have any consoles between like SNES and Xbox One.
- 1:20:06SPEAKER_00: But it genuinely holds up.
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_00: I bet.
- 1:20:10SPEAKER_00: It really is, yeah.
- 1:20:11SPEAKER_00: And I bet it is.
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_00: I bet it is.
- 1:20:14SPEAKER_00: I think it was there was Do you know the magazine Edge?
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:20:18SPEAKER_00: Did you ever read it?
- 1:20:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I remember that.
- 1:20:19SPEAKER_00: I never I remember they were very they had a thing that they never gave out ten out of tens, except I think at the time when I was young, there was only like four games which got ten out of ten, and one of them was Mario 64, I think.
- 1:20:33SPEAKER_00: Do you remember what else?
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_00: I can't remember what the others were.
- 1:20:35SPEAKER_00: Mario Galaxy, I think, did get 10 out of 10.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_00: I can't remember what the other ones were.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_00: There were a few controversial ones, but there were very few.
- 1:20:47SPEAKER_00: Probably, yeah.
- 1:20:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:20:48SPEAKER_00: They did never get because it was they did a point system.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_00: You could get 9.5.
- 1:20:55SPEAKER_00: But they just never gave 10 full 10 except occasionally.
- 1:20:59SPEAKER_00: That would be an interesting list, what I got.
- 1:21:01SPEAKER_00: Can you look that up actually edge a 10 out of 10 games?
- 1:21:04SPEAKER_00: There was one which was really controversial, I think.
- 1:21:07SPEAKER_00: And it was just like, no, that that isn't that isn't a 10 out of 10 game.
- 1:21:11SPEAKER_00: Because they get them so rarely.
- 1:21:13SPEAKER_00: Oh well, you're right.
- 1:21:14SPEAKER_00: There's so it's there's only a handful here.
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_00: Uh sorry, Super Mario 64.
- 1:21:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:21:19SPEAKER_00: Gran Turismo.
- 1:21:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:21:21SPEAKER_00: Ocarina Retire.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_00: Ocarina Retime, yeah.
- 1:21:23SPEAKER_00: Halo Combat Evolved.
- 1:21:24SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, the first Halo.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_00: The first Halo, yeah.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_00: Wow, yeah.
- 1:21:27SPEAKER_00: Half-Life 2.
- 1:21:28SPEAKER_00: Half-Life 2.
- 1:21:29SPEAKER_00: Halo 3.
- 1:21:30SPEAKER_00: Halo 3 is controversial, I think.
- 1:21:32SPEAKER_00: It's not a 10 out of 10 game.
- 1:21:34SPEAKER_00: The orange box, which I've never heard of.
- 1:21:35SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's the that's Half-Life 2 but with Portal and Team Fortress 2.
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's just a it's just that really.
- 1:21:45SPEAKER_00: Portal 2 is a great game.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:21:49SPEAKER_00: And then Mario Galaxy.
- 1:21:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:21:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:21:56SPEAKER_00: I remember that being a thing.
- 1:21:58SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, there's quite a few more.
- 1:21:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:21:59SPEAKER_00: They've already game about it.
- 1:22:00SPEAKER_00: Grand GTA 4.
- 1:22:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:22:02SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 1:22:02SPEAKER_00: GTA 5.
- 1:22:03SPEAKER_00: GTA 4.
- 1:22:05SPEAKER_00: Okay, that makes sense.
- 1:22:05SPEAKER_00: Rock Band 3.
- 1:22:07SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's quite rogue.
- 1:22:08SPEAKER_00: GTA 4 is not a 10 out of 10 game.
- 1:22:11SPEAKER_00: No, it's not quite.
- 1:22:14SPEAKER_00: Five makes sense because you can use so much and it's still playable to this day.
- 1:22:18SPEAKER_00: GTA 4 was amazing for like a few days, and then you realize this is actually quite boring.
- 1:22:23SPEAKER_00: I have to go I have to go play pool with my cousin again.
- 1:22:29SPEAKER_00: I don't like this.
- 1:22:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like three and five, I can understand.
- 1:22:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:22:34SPEAKER_00: But yeah, three three's not even in here.
- 1:22:36SPEAKER_00: Galaxy Mario Galaxy 2's also.
- 1:22:38SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 1:22:39SPEAKER_00: Um Skyward Skyward Sword, Lenge of the Elder Skyward Sword, Bayonet 2, Bloodborne.
- 1:22:44SPEAKER_00: That's a co oh yeah.
- 1:22:46SPEAKER_00: Little Big Planet.
- 1:22:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:22:50SPEAKER_00: Come on, yeah.
- 1:22:51SPEAKER_00: And that's it.
- 1:22:52SPEAKER_00: That's not many 10 out of 10.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_00: It's not.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_00: Oh, Breath of the Wild and Odyssey as well.
- 1:22:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah, they love it.
- 1:22:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, additionally, there were some retroactively received a 10.
- 1:23:02SPEAKER_00: That's weird.
- 1:23:03SPEAKER_00: Elite from 84.
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_00: Exile, Super Mario Bros.
- 1:23:08SPEAKER_00: from 85, Goldeneye, Advanced Wars, Resident Evil 4, Drop 7, Red Dead Redemption, Street Fighter 4, and Dark Souls.
- 1:23:18SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 1:23:19SPEAKER_00: That's all of them.
- 1:23:20SPEAKER_00: That's really not that many.
- 1:23:21SPEAKER_00: That's only like 30 games.
- 1:23:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:23:24SPEAKER_00: It's a big thing.
- 1:23:25SPEAKER_00: Halo 3 shouldn't be on there.
- 1:23:26SPEAKER_00: No, there's quite a few that should not be on there.
- 1:23:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:23:29SPEAKER_00: Rockman 3 should not be on the box.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's not the most trustworthy 10 out of 10.
- 1:23:35SPEAKER_00: Half-Life 2 was all was pretty good at the time.
- 1:23:37SPEAKER_00: I never played Half-Life.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_00: They're good.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're great.
- 1:23:40SPEAKER_00: Half-Life 1 is better than Half-Life 2, I think.
- 1:23:42SPEAKER_00: Fair.
- 1:23:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:23:44SPEAKER_00: Half-Life 2 was pretty amazing at the time because it was the first time there was physics in a game properly.
- 1:23:50SPEAKER_00: And they had the gravity gun and you could just pick stuff up.
- 1:23:52SPEAKER_00: But that was just so innovative.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_00: You could pick stuff up and throw it from the environment.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_00: It was like, okay, cool.
- 1:23:59SPEAKER_00: And then after a while it was like, wait, that's not actually that fun to do.
- 1:24:04SPEAKER_00: It's not more efficient than shooting someone to pick up a box and shoot it at someone.
- 1:24:09SPEAKER_00: But when you did it, when you first played it, you were just every time.
- 1:24:12SPEAKER_00: It was just like, okay, I'll pick up this crate from over here and throw it at them.
- 1:24:16SPEAKER_00: It's taken me like twice as long as shooting them, but it's fun.
- 1:24:22SPEAKER_00: Physics.
- 1:24:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:24:24SPEAKER_00: What a time.
- 1:24:25SPEAKER_00: 2004, whatever.
- 1:24:29SPEAKER_00: Let's like rush through this uh the end of this turn of this uh movie, because there's not a whole lot that happens from that.
- 1:24:34SPEAKER_00: No, well, where were we?
- 1:24:36SPEAKER_00: So Yoshi saves her, Daisy helps Toad.
- 1:24:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:24:39SPEAKER_00: Then we discover the fungus is Daisy's father.
- 1:24:42SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:24:42SPEAKER_00: Nice scene.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_00: Which is nice.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:24:44SPEAKER_00: It's a nice scene.
- 1:24:45SPEAKER_00: It's gross, but it's nice.
- 1:24:47SPEAKER_00: The music in that scene is great, actually.
- 1:24:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:24:49SPEAKER_00: And we're like the spike and Iggy are like, oh we'll leave her alone.
- 1:24:54SPEAKER_00: Spike and Iggy like get once they become smart, they redeem themselves.
- 1:24:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they have quite any quick redemption art.
- 1:25:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:25:02SPEAKER_00: They're like, oh wait, this is actually pretty dodge.
- 1:25:05SPEAKER_00: Oh we skip past a bit the way they were they they get caught in the desert.
- 1:25:10SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 1:25:11SPEAKER_00: That's a nice scene.
- 1:25:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:25:13SPEAKER_00: Mario and Luigi get caught in the desert, but they get they're they're saved by the by the fungus, which we don't know why.
- 1:25:19SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:25:20SPEAKER_00: And then you realize it's um it's the fungus.
- 1:25:24SPEAKER_00: You can save it.
- 1:25:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:25:25SPEAKER_00: And then they catch Iggy and Spy.
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_00: They're tied up and they're like you're tied up.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:25:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:25:34SPEAKER_00: So many good bits.
- 1:25:35SPEAKER_00: So many good scenes.
- 1:25:37SPEAKER_00: None of the scenes are like bad.
- 1:25:40SPEAKER_00: Nothing in this is technically bad.
- 1:25:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like all the scenes are just.
- 1:25:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:25:45SPEAKER_00: I'm not yeah, I'm thinking about it, it's like these scenes are really easy to watch.
- 1:25:49SPEAKER_00: They've advanced the plot, there's nice category.
- 1:25:51SPEAKER_00: It's a really fun movie to watch.
- 1:25:52SPEAKER_00: It is.
- 1:25:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, people should re-watch this movie.
- 1:26:00SPEAKER_00: They really should, yeah.
- 1:26:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:26:01SPEAKER_00: I think if you rewatched it now, you'd be like, okay.
- 1:26:03SPEAKER_00: It's a perfectly start, three out of five.
- 1:26:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:26:06SPEAKER_00: It's interesting.
- 1:26:07SPEAKER_00: It it has big swings, some big misses, but it swings big.
- 1:26:11SPEAKER_00: It swings really big for what it's trying to do.
- 1:26:16SPEAKER_00: Lena gets uh so Cooper gets the rock and Mario and the Mario saves uh all the women that have been killed.
- 1:26:26SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's a fun scene.
- 1:26:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:26:27SPEAKER_00: That's a fun scene.
- 1:26:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:26:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:26:32SPEAKER_00: Well, first of all, he goes, he's like, be quiet.
- 1:26:35SPEAKER_00: And they're like, Ah, it's meant to be Mario! Yeah.
- 1:26:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, good one.
- 1:26:42SPEAKER_00: Also, I love it.
- 1:26:43SPEAKER_00: It's Mario! Like it's any, like it's just a person to them.
- 1:26:48SPEAKER_00: No, it's Mario.
- 1:26:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, most of them don't even know him.
- 1:26:51SPEAKER_00: They don't know.
- 1:26:53SPEAKER_00: Also, in in the credits, one of them is listed as prostitute.
- 1:26:57SPEAKER_00: What?
- 1:26:58SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:26:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, only one of them.
- 1:27:00SPEAKER_00: One of them.
- 1:27:00SPEAKER_00: That's really funny.
- 1:27:02SPEAKER_00: That's so stupid.
- 1:27:05SPEAKER_00: Is it the one who's not from Brooklyn?
- 1:27:07SPEAKER_00: Manhattan.
- 1:27:09SPEAKER_00: Was it Queens?
- 1:27:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:27:10SPEAKER_00: She's from Queens, but she's alright.
- 1:27:13SPEAKER_00: I do love that they have the little borough jokes as well.
- 1:27:16SPEAKER_00: So there's like man like when they first get to uh Cooper's world, they're like, oh, Manhattan's changed.
- 1:27:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:27:24SPEAKER_00: When's the last time you were in Manhattan?
- 1:27:26SPEAKER_00: Well, three weeks ago.
- 1:27:27SPEAKER_00: But I didn't think.
- 1:27:29SPEAKER_00: None of them go to Manhattan originally.
- 1:27:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's really fun.
- 1:27:32SPEAKER_00: It's really fun.
- 1:27:33SPEAKER_00: It's like for a movie about Marrow, there's a lot of New York-centric jokes.
- 1:27:37SPEAKER_00: And as a child, a five-year-old child, I did not understand any of them.
- 1:27:40SPEAKER_00: Because I was like what the hell?
- 1:27:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:27:42SPEAKER_00: But it probably was the first time I really knew about Manhattan.
- 1:27:47SPEAKER_00: The first time I I was aware of Manhattan in Brooklyn was from this movie.
- 1:27:53SPEAKER_00: But yeah, so Lena Lena uh catches the rock but then gets electrocuted.
- 1:27:58SPEAKER_00: That's a fun bit.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_00: She died, but she doesn't die.
- 1:28:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, she doesn't die.
- 1:28:01SPEAKER_00: There's a bit so there's a So that's when Mario's fight fighting coop on the on the swinging thing.
- 1:28:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:28:08SPEAKER_00: Which comes back later.
- 1:28:09SPEAKER_00: Which is actually uh I think that's supposed to be Bowser's uh little thing that he sits in.
- 1:28:16SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 1:28:17SPEAKER_00: I think that's what it is.
- 1:28:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:28:19SPEAKER_00: Do you know what I mean?
- 1:28:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:28:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it could be.
- 1:28:21SPEAKER_00: It's unclear.
- 1:28:22SPEAKER_00: It's kind of shaped like that.
- 1:28:23SPEAKER_00: It's unclear.
- 1:28:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it must be.
- 1:28:24SPEAKER_00: Must be.
- 1:28:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:28:26SPEAKER_00: He should have been throwing things from it.
- 1:28:28SPEAKER_00: Is that after he's he's he's used the little Yeah, because they crash in from the mattress.
- 1:28:33SPEAKER_00: That mattress chase is really fun as well.
- 1:28:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it is.
- 1:28:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the ice, they put he puts all the traps down to like take out the Goombas.
- 1:28:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:28:42SPEAKER_00: Um they come crashing in and they meet up with Luigi and Daisy.
- 1:28:47SPEAKER_00: And then he he gets the little boot from the shop.
- 1:28:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:28:51SPEAKER_00: And he's he puts the thing in it and it goes, boom.
- 1:28:54SPEAKER_00: It's a it's a bubom.
- 1:28:56SPEAKER_00: Is it bombomb?
- 1:28:58SPEAKER_00: No, he gets he gets the bubom from a from a mushroom, I think.
- 1:29:01SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 1:29:02SPEAKER_00: But it's just a little like it must be like a it's it's like it looks like one of the cannonballs but tiny.
- 1:29:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:29:08SPEAKER_00: It looks like the cannon, but it's tiny, and he puts it in the boot and just like Yeah, wrecks him.
- 1:29:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's really cool.
- 1:29:16SPEAKER_00: It's I like all that stuff.
- 1:29:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's really too.
- 1:29:19SPEAKER_00: I like all the tag.
- 1:29:21SPEAKER_00: Um she gets electrocuted, but she's fine.
- 1:29:24SPEAKER_00: She's the hair gets frosty.
- 1:29:26SPEAKER_00: But then uh she tries to merge the two dimensions together.
- 1:29:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and she can't because only Daisy can.
- 1:29:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we learned she's she's the once.
- 1:29:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:29:33SPEAKER_00: She's the one with the power.
- 1:29:34SPEAKER_00: Um They Oh yeah, I wrote down only Daisy has the force, which is what they say.
- 1:29:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:29:40SPEAKER_00: Which is quite funny because then later on in like Star Wars, they're Daisy with the force.
- 1:29:45SPEAKER_00: Ah, ooh, Daisy Ridley.
- 1:29:47SPEAKER_00: It's all it's all prophetic.
- 1:29:50SPEAKER_00: She was the original, right?
- 1:29:52SPEAKER_00: Um Strong female character.
- 1:29:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, strong female character.
- 1:29:55SPEAKER_00: She has the power.
- 1:29:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:29:56SPEAKER_00: She's in charge there.
- 1:29:59SPEAKER_00: He's all like the force.
- 1:30:03SPEAKER_00: And she's like, no, hold on to my hand, that's fine.
- 1:30:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:30:06SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah.
- 1:30:07SPEAKER_00: They do some plumbing.
- 1:30:08SPEAKER_00: They do a lot of plumbing in this game.
- 1:30:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they do it, they do.
- 1:30:10SPEAKER_00: It's a great movie about plumbing.
- 1:30:12SPEAKER_00: They do more plumbing in this movie than they do in the game.
- 1:30:15SPEAKER_00: There's no there's no actual plumbing in the games.
- 1:30:17SPEAKER_00: He just climbs through pipes.
- 1:30:19SPEAKER_00: He does very little plumbing himself, but he just likes going through massive pipes.
- 1:30:23SPEAKER_00: Whereas here, they're they're plumbing all the time.
- 1:30:26SPEAKER_00: There's always he's always talking about his tools.
- 1:30:27SPEAKER_00: He's like, Yeah, you've got to trust your tools.
- 1:30:29SPEAKER_00: Like it's a lightsaber.
- 1:30:32SPEAKER_00: He's a good mentor.
- 1:30:33SPEAKER_00: He's a great mentor to his brother.
- 1:30:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:30:36SPEAKER_00: Luigi's the apprentice.
- 1:30:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:30:38SPEAKER_00: How big is the age gap?
- 1:30:39SPEAKER_00: It must be quite massive.
- 1:30:41SPEAKER_00: It's like not like uncommon.
- 1:30:42SPEAKER_00: I want to say Luigi's like 20s.
- 1:30:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:30:45SPEAKER_00: Like early 20s, and Mario is like 40s, yeah.
- 1:30:49SPEAKER_00: It's not clear, it's not explained why, but it does work.
- 1:30:51SPEAKER_00: It does work.
- 1:30:52SPEAKER_00: Like the game, clearly they're not they're both grown men.
- 1:30:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:30:57SPEAKER_00: But Luigi's a grown man in the game.
- 1:31:00SPEAKER_00: Um But is Luigi just a child, basically?
- 1:31:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:31:03SPEAKER_00: I think it's to show that he's like he is the younger brother too.
- 1:31:10SPEAKER_00: It's like whereas like if they were if they were the same age, or like roughly the same age, it'd be weird having like the tall Luigi looking at the great dynamic.
- 1:31:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so basically like the world start merging.
- 1:31:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:31:25SPEAKER_00: That bit is crazy.
- 1:31:27SPEAKER_00: Crazy.
- 1:31:27SPEAKER_00: Can we talk about the Twin Towers disappearing?
- 1:31:29SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, the Twin Towers cut into Cooper Towers.
- 1:31:31SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, that was a nice moment.
- 1:31:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 1:31:35SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh, that does not hold.
- 1:31:36SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:31:37SPEAKER_00: No, they get they get they get dissolved into Cooper Towers.
- 1:31:41SPEAKER_00: Great bit.
- 1:31:42SPEAKER_00: Great bit.
- 1:31:42SPEAKER_00: Great great little bit.
- 1:31:44SPEAKER_00: Um Skipella gets monkefied.
- 1:31:46SPEAKER_00: Skipetti turns into a monkey.
- 1:31:48SPEAKER_00: You get the evolved into the monkey.
- 1:31:49SPEAKER_00: Um uses the mushroom as a as a shield.
- 1:31:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:31:54SPEAKER_00: Trust the fungus.
- 1:31:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he says trust the fungus.
- 1:31:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:31:56SPEAKER_00: That's the first time they probably use the mushroom.
- 1:31:58SPEAKER_00: It's such a weird way to incorporate the mushroom from I quite like it.
- 1:32:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I like it.
- 1:32:02SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 1:32:03SPEAKER_00: But it's like I can see why people hate this, because it's like But what do you want them to do?
- 1:32:06SPEAKER_00: Do you want them to eat the mushroom and like turn big?
- 1:32:09SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:32:09SPEAKER_00: It's just like, oh.
- 1:32:11SPEAKER_00: It's like they got a note to incorporate stuff in the game, and they're just like, yeah, let's incorporate it, but in the in the least, in the way they'll hate the most.
- 1:32:18SPEAKER_00: But the thing is, like the directors wanted to make a dark movie, and then the studio wanted them to make a family movie.
- 1:32:24SPEAKER_00: So I think this is the best of both words.
- 1:32:27SPEAKER_00: Well they ha they fired them and rehired them many times, didn't they?
- 1:32:30SPEAKER_00: I kept surprised.
- 1:32:32SPEAKER_00: I think they fired them and then these new writers came on and they fired those writers and just got them back.
- 1:32:38SPEAKER_00: So they were kind of like, oh, no one else can make this movie.
- 1:32:40SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 1:32:42SPEAKER_00: It's an impossible task.
- 1:32:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:32:44SPEAKER_00: It really is.
- 1:32:45SPEAKER_00: The mushroom.
- 1:32:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so uh basically they uh they go back, Toad helps, uh Toad helps them, and then they de-evolve Cooper at this point.
- 1:33:02SPEAKER_00: Yes, shoot him with the tender guns.
- 1:33:05SPEAKER_00: But he turns into like sludge.
- 1:33:08SPEAKER_00: Sludge, yeah.
- 1:33:08SPEAKER_00: He devolves so much.
- 1:33:09SPEAKER_00: I really like that scene though where he's like a half dinosaur for a bit and he's like But also why do the guns de-evolve people?
- 1:33:17SPEAKER_00: I think that they're the guns he's he's got.
- 1:33:19SPEAKER_00: So like he was planning to de-evolve everyone.
- 1:33:21SPEAKER_00: Oh right, so he's just slowly.
- 1:33:23SPEAKER_00: It was his plan to de-evolve all the mammals.
- 1:33:26SPEAKER_00: Got you.
- 1:33:26SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 1:33:29SPEAKER_00: For fun.
- 1:33:30SPEAKER_00: I guess it's it's quite a slow way of taking over, but it's quite fun.
- 1:33:34SPEAKER_00: Um but he yeah, he blows up into sludge.
- 1:33:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:33:37SPEAKER_00: Um and then we and then Daisy's dad just like comes back to the code.
- 1:33:41SPEAKER_00: Which makes no sense.
- 1:33:42SPEAKER_00: Doesn't make any sense.
- 1:33:43SPEAKER_00: And it's Lance Lance Henrickson playing the king.
- 1:33:46SPEAKER_00: Um why not for one line.
- 1:33:50SPEAKER_00: One line.
- 1:33:51SPEAKER_00: Unclear why.
- 1:33:53SPEAKER_00: But fair enough.
- 1:33:55SPEAKER_00: He's going from aliens to this.
- 1:33:56SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:33:57SPEAKER_00: He did aliens, and they're like, hey, we want to play Guy Comes Back from Fungus.
- 1:34:01SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:34:01SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:34:02SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 1:34:03SPEAKER_00: Fantastic.
- 1:34:04SPEAKER_00: Oh, I forgot the bit where he sets the ba-bomb and it walks slowly.
- 1:34:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 1:34:07SPEAKER_00: And goes all the way under.
- 1:34:08SPEAKER_00: I realize it comes back up and it explodes.
- 1:34:12SPEAKER_00: Explodes.
- 1:34:13SPEAKER_00: That's just really my suspense.
- 1:34:17SPEAKER_00: It's a ba-bomb.
- 1:34:18SPEAKER_00: And everyone's so scared of the ba-bomb in this world.
- 1:34:20SPEAKER_00: They all know it what it is.
- 1:34:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're like, oh, it's a ba-bomb.
- 1:34:23SPEAKER_00: Or the cars are driving, oh shit-up.
- 1:34:27SPEAKER_00: It's so great.
- 1:34:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so but basically but basically like Daisy decides to stay behind.
- 1:34:33SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:34:34SPEAKER_00: Because she has unresolved things.
- 1:34:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:34:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:34:37SPEAKER_00: That plus like she wants to help everyone.
- 1:34:39SPEAKER_00: She is the princess of the world.
- 1:34:42SPEAKER_00: And then it cuts to So she stays, Luigi's upset, but they have a kiss.
- 1:34:47SPEAKER_00: They can visit.
- 1:34:50SPEAKER_00: Do long distance.
- 1:34:51SPEAKER_00: It's not that long distance.
- 1:34:52SPEAKER_00: It just goes through the TV portal.
- 1:34:54SPEAKER_00: I think they close that up, maybe.
- 1:34:55SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:34:56SPEAKER_00: Probably would close that up, right?
- 1:34:58SPEAKER_00: No, we don't want dinosaurs coming here.
- 1:35:00SPEAKER_00: But it cuts to three weeks later.
- 1:35:02SPEAKER_00: And it's so stupid.
- 1:35:05SPEAKER_00: It just cuts to three weeks later and there's a knock at the door.
- 1:35:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:35:08SPEAKER_00: And it's Daisy.
- 1:35:10SPEAKER_00: She's like, You have to help.
- 1:35:12SPEAKER_00: You never guess what's happened.
- 1:35:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:35:14SPEAKER_00: You never guess what's happened, and we don't find out.
- 1:35:16SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:35:17SPEAKER_00: You know what I would do?
- 1:35:18SPEAKER_00: I I I uh when I was a kid, I was like, there's got to be more movie.
- 1:35:22SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 1:35:23SPEAKER_00: Well, there is a end of credit scene.
- 1:35:25SPEAKER_00: There is an end of credit scene, but again, it's not really anything.
- 1:35:28SPEAKER_00: But I thought there'll be just Iggy and I would leave the VHS running expecting there to be more movie.
- 1:35:34SPEAKER_00: Nowadays there would be a setup to something.
- 1:35:36SPEAKER_00: But apparently what they were trying to do was like a back to the future style thing.
- 1:35:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:35:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:35:42SPEAKER_00: Hey, if the film had made money, I would have loved to see I think it would have made great sequels.
- 1:35:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they would yeah.
- 1:35:49SPEAKER_00: That would have been a great trilogy.
- 1:35:50SPEAKER_00: Summario 2, Summario 3, the world gets crazy.
- 1:35:54SPEAKER_00: None of them would sign up again.
- 1:35:55SPEAKER_00: No, they would not.
- 1:35:57SPEAKER_00: Bob Hoskins would not come back with this.
- 1:35:59SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, nope, he would not.
- 1:36:01SPEAKER_00: Who would you get to play Mario?
- 1:36:03SPEAKER_00: Danny DeVito.
- 1:36:04SPEAKER_00: Danny DeVito, yes.
- 1:36:05SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:36:06SPEAKER_00: I used to think Danny DeVito and Bob Hoskins were interchangeable, Mario.
- 1:36:10SPEAKER_00: I was like, surely they're the same person.
- 1:36:13SPEAKER_00: Danny DeVito is Mario.
- 1:36:15SPEAKER_00: That would be quite fun.
- 1:36:16SPEAKER_00: That would be fun.
- 1:36:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:36:17SPEAKER_00: I think there was a point where they're trying to get him.
- 1:36:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:36:19SPEAKER_00: Who would you get now?
- 1:36:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, do you know what was funny?
- 1:36:23SPEAKER_00: Um so uh it was supposed to be I think Luigi was supposed to be Tom Hanks.
- 1:36:30SPEAKER_00: Oh yes.
- 1:36:31SPEAKER_00: But they after the string of eight films from the 80s, he w he was bombing.
- 1:36:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:36:37SPEAKER_00: He was a big thing.
- 1:36:38SPEAKER_00: So they were like, he is not he is not a star.
- 1:36:40SPEAKER_00: No, yeah.
- 1:36:41SPEAKER_00: Imagine like Tom Hanks in this.
- 1:36:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this is yeah.
- 1:36:44SPEAKER_00: And also this was just the year before he won two Oscars in a row.
- 1:36:48SPEAKER_00: No, this was the year he didn't.
- 1:36:50SPEAKER_00: This was the year he did Philadelphia.
- 1:36:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so yeah, he would there would there would be like yeah, he's he's he's he's out of Hollywood.
- 1:36:55SPEAKER_00: And then he won two Oscars in a row.
- 1:36:57SPEAKER_00: Instead of being Luigi, he went on to put he was in Philadelphia.
- 1:37:00SPEAKER_00: And then Forrest Gum.
- 1:37:01SPEAKER_00: And it was like, yeah, double double best actor, two years running.
- 1:37:04SPEAKER_00: Cool.
- 1:37:06SPEAKER_00: Tom Hanks would have played a good Luigi.
- 1:37:09SPEAKER_00: We should get why not?
- 1:37:11SPEAKER_00: Why not?
- 1:37:12SPEAKER_00: John Luisiama, what else did he really do after that?
- 1:37:15SPEAKER_00: I can't.
- 1:37:16SPEAKER_00: He's in the menu, this uh Is he, yeah.
- 1:37:18SPEAKER_00: Which is really good.
- 1:37:20SPEAKER_00: He's playing like this um like this washed up actor.
- 1:37:25SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:37:26SPEAKER_00: That's a good role.
- 1:37:27SPEAKER_00: It's a really good role for him.
- 1:37:28SPEAKER_00: He's like he's very good in it.
- 1:37:30SPEAKER_00: He uh well he him and Daisy dating at this time.
- 1:37:34SPEAKER_00: What do you mean?
- 1:37:35SPEAKER_00: Him and uh the Samantha Mathis.
- 1:37:38SPEAKER_00: Oh really?
- 1:37:38SPEAKER_00: I think they were dating.
- 1:37:39SPEAKER_00: Oh I didn't know that.
- 1:37:41SPEAKER_00: Maybe they met on the set.
- 1:37:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 1:37:43SPEAKER_00: They were dating, but she I think left him to be with River Phoenix, who I think again, him and John Louisiana are very similar.
- 1:37:53SPEAKER_00: They're very similar people.
- 1:37:55SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:37:58SPEAKER_00: I think she was with River Phoenix when he passed away.
- 1:38:00SPEAKER_00: Right, yeah.
- 1:38:01SPEAKER_00: Right, okay.
- 1:38:02SPEAKER_00: I I saw that she was dating John Louis.
- 1:38:05SPEAKER_00: I didn't realize that.
- 1:38:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:38:07SPEAKER_00: Um fun fact.
- 1:38:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I didn't realize I didn't have no idea.
- 1:38:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:38:11SPEAKER_00: Wow, clearly.
- 1:38:13SPEAKER_00: They have a lot of on-screen chemistry to be at the top.
- 1:38:15SPEAKER_00: They do, they are actually really good together.
- 1:38:16SPEAKER_00: They're a good couple couple, yeah.
- 1:38:17SPEAKER_00: I do like them together.
- 1:38:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:38:19SPEAKER_00: Um Yeah, so like I I feel like you've kind of like defended the whole thing.
- 1:38:23SPEAKER_00: Like, do you have anything else you want to do?
- 1:38:26SPEAKER_00: Every single uh, but I've got loads.
- 1:38:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, no.
- 1:38:32SPEAKER_00: Um what was I gonna say about Yeah, the end of credit scene, we'll touch on briefly, is I think them justifying why because their whole philosophy is that this is the movie, this is the world that gave Nintendo the idea for the game, is their philosophy.
- 1:38:50SPEAKER_00: It's not meant to be like the game, it's just it's just what inspired the game some in some weird, bizarre way, which kind of works.
- 1:38:57SPEAKER_00: Not really.
- 1:38:58SPEAKER_00: It's just them pitching.
- 1:38:59SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it has j Japanese Japanese investments come and like, yeah, we want to make your story into a game.
- 1:39:06SPEAKER_00: But they want to make it Iggy and Spike again.
- 1:39:08SPEAKER_00: The the Cooper Super Cooper Cuttons, which is a great gag.
- 1:39:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:39:13SPEAKER_00: Um I think yeah, this film is a solid, fun movie.
- 1:39:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:39:18SPEAKER_00: It's not even it's not even like Street Fighter, which is bad and fun.
- 1:39:22SPEAKER_00: It's like it's it's it's a well-made movie.
- 1:39:24SPEAKER_00: It's like by all by all accounts, it has like it's well made.
- 1:39:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:39:29SPEAKER_00: It's like you're watching it, you watch any film from the 90s which is similarly rated, and it's like those movies are a mess.
- 1:39:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:39:35SPEAKER_00: Like the Mortal Kombat movie is so bad.
- 1:39:39SPEAKER_00: It's a mess.
- 1:39:39SPEAKER_00: So bad.
- 1:39:40SPEAKER_00: And just looks bad.
- 1:39:41SPEAKER_00: It's like that look that genuinely looks bad.
- 1:39:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:39:44SPEAKER_00: Like I I've again, that's been on here as well.
- 1:39:47SPEAKER_00: Has it?
- 1:39:48SPEAKER_00: Who defended it?
- 1:39:49SPEAKER_00: Uh Edward uh Edward or Edward.
- 1:39:52SPEAKER_00: Edmund Farger.
- 1:39:53SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:39:54SPEAKER_00: I mean I I enjoyed that as a kid, but it does not hold up.
- 1:39:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:39:58SPEAKER_00: It does I I yeah.
- 1:40:00SPEAKER_00: It's way that's probably the worst of them all.
- 1:40:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, out of the like nineties ones, yeah.
- 1:40:06SPEAKER_00: The original nineties ones, yeah.
- 1:40:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:40:08SPEAKER_00: Definitely.
- 1:40:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:40:09SPEAKER_00: To me that that's the I think this is the last of them.
- 1:40:15SPEAKER_00: These are the three from that.
- 1:40:17SPEAKER_00: Those are the three.
- 1:40:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:40:21SPEAKER_00: Can't remember if they did any other cinema release films of of these kinds of things.
- 1:40:25SPEAKER_00: No, I think the next like real big one would have been Tomb Raider, maybe.
- 1:40:30SPEAKER_00: Oh, Tomb Raider.
- 1:40:30SPEAKER_00: Have you done has anyone done Tomb Raider?
- 1:40:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:40:32SPEAKER_00: Terrible movie.
- 1:40:33SPEAKER_00: Terrible.
- 1:40:34SPEAKER_00: Tomb Raider and Resident Evil were kind of like the next like revival of those movies.
- 1:40:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:40:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:40:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:40:42SPEAKER_00: And Tomb Raider, wow, what a bad movie.
- 1:40:45SPEAKER_00: Well, that brings us on to the next segment.
- 1:40:48SPEAKER_00: Oh, yes.
- 1:40:49SPEAKER_00: We're gonna play higher or lower.
- 1:40:50SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be so hard.
- 1:40:52SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 1:40:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:40:53SPEAKER_00: As I was saying.
- 1:40:55SPEAKER_00: Everything will be under 14.
- 1:40:56SPEAKER_00: I was saying to Ken before, like this is the this is higher or lower, but it's it's the video game edition.
- 1:41:01SPEAKER_00: So video game movie edition.
- 1:41:03SPEAKER_00: So I feel like I've given Ken the hardest task of everyone.
- 1:41:06SPEAKER_00: So we'll give him some leeway on this.
- 1:41:10SPEAKER_00: So the highest score you can get is six out of six.
- 1:41:12SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 1:41:13SPEAKER_00: Have people done that.
- 1:41:14SPEAKER_00: The highest score anyone's got is five out of six.
- 1:41:16SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
- 1:41:17SPEAKER_00: And then everyone else has got four.
- 1:41:20SPEAKER_00: That's uh that's fashion.
- 1:41:21SPEAKER_00: But it's only this this year that we've been doing them.
- 1:41:24SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:41:24SPEAKER_00: It's only this uh like the last- You're you're only like the fifth person to fifth, fourth or fifth person.
- 1:41:31SPEAKER_00: I might get it wrong straight away.
- 1:41:33SPEAKER_00: Um but it's a collective score.
- 1:41:36SPEAKER_00: So if you even if you get one wrong, it counts for the I'll count the whole score at the end.
- 1:41:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's not okay.
- 1:41:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's not.
- 1:41:42SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:41:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:41:43SPEAKER_00: But it's just we're just going along though.
- 1:41:44SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:41:45SPEAKER_00: Okay, so again, this will be for anyone who's uh not watching for anyone watching it will be on the screen, and for anyone not watching, I'll I'll speak.
- 1:41:53SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:41:53SPEAKER_00: Um we're starting with Mario Brothers, it's 29%.
- 1:41:57SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:41:58SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:41:58SPEAKER_00: So the first one we're gonna go with is the new Mario movie.
- 1:42:03SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 1:42:04SPEAKER_00: I think it's higher.
- 1:42:05SPEAKER_00: I think it's like fifty or something.
- 1:42:06SPEAKER_00: You think it's higher?
- 1:42:07SPEAKER_00: You think it's about fi Oh, I like I like saying I like you giving the score as well.
- 1:42:11SPEAKER_00: I think it's about fifty.
- 1:42:11SPEAKER_00: You think it's about fifty?
- 1:42:13SPEAKER_00: Fifty-seven.
- 1:42:14SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:42:14SPEAKER_00: Okay, so you've got one point so far.
- 1:42:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I have seen a screenshot of that because people were talking about the audience versus the tomato.
- 1:42:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:42:22SPEAKER_00: 50 something, yeah.
- 1:42:23SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:42:23SPEAKER_00: That's one, cool.
- 1:42:24SPEAKER_00: But look at the audience score.
- 1:42:24SPEAKER_00: It's 96%, which is very high.
- 1:42:28SPEAKER_00: That's ridiculously high.
- 1:42:29SPEAKER_00: So it's it's people are enjoying it.
- 1:42:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:42:32SPEAKER_00: Um next.
- 1:42:33SPEAKER_00: Tomb Raider.
- 1:42:34SPEAKER_00: It's gotta be lower.
- 1:42:35SPEAKER_00: Gotta be lower.
- 1:42:36SPEAKER_00: Lower than fifty-seven, you think.
- 1:42:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:42:38SPEAKER_00: What do you think it is?
- 1:42:40SPEAKER_00: Doesn't count to your twenty.
- 1:42:42SPEAKER_00: Twenty twenty-five.
- 1:42:43SPEAKER_00: You think it's twenty-five?
- 1:42:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:42:45SPEAKER_00: Twenty?
- 1:42:45SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's right.
- 1:42:46SPEAKER_00: First time, first time.
- 1:42:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:42:48SPEAKER_00: Twenty percent.
- 1:42:48SPEAKER_00: It's gotta be lower.
- 1:42:49SPEAKER_00: Audience score forty-seven.
- 1:42:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:42:51SPEAKER_00: Bad movie by all counts.
- 1:42:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:42:53SPEAKER_00: But also critics were harsh about then, so.
- 1:42:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't think it's as bad as twenty, but it's not.
- 1:42:58SPEAKER_00: In today's uh day and age, it wouldn't be a twenty, but it definitely was.
- 1:43:02SPEAKER_00: Not yeah.
- 1:43:03SPEAKER_00: Okay, so you got two points so far?
- 1:43:04SPEAKER_00: Oh god, this is tense.
- 1:43:06SPEAKER_00: Sonic the Hedgehog.
- 1:43:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's definitely higher.
- 1:43:08SPEAKER_00: Oh, very, very obviously higher.
- 1:43:10SPEAKER_00: This is like high.
- 1:43:13SPEAKER_00: What do you think it is?
- 1:43:14SPEAKER_00: Like 80?
- 1:43:15SPEAKER_00: 80?
- 1:43:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think this is a That would be the highest rated Yeah, like 70 or 80, 70, maybe?
- 1:43:22SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'm wrong.
- 1:43:23SPEAKER_00: Wait, which h yeah.
- 1:43:24SPEAKER_00: 64.
- 1:43:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:43:26SPEAKER_00: So it's still it's a positive rate.
- 1:43:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I I again 93% audience.
- 1:43:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:43:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:43:33SPEAKER_00: That's very high.
- 1:43:34SPEAKER_00: Uh I think that might have been the first um positive score for a video game movie.
- 1:43:40SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:43:41SPEAKER_00: I think that was what it was.
- 1:43:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think so.
- 1:43:43SPEAKER_00: Um Okay.
- 1:43:45SPEAKER_00: Okay, so it's an okay movie.
- 1:43:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:43:47SPEAKER_00: So you've got three now?
- 1:43:48SPEAKER_00: You're you're doing well so far?
- 1:43:49SPEAKER_00: Wow, this is yeah, this is tense.
- 1:43:52SPEAKER_00: Resident Evil.
- 1:43:53SPEAKER_00: Ah, gotta be lower.
- 1:43:54SPEAKER_00: People would not have people would not critics would have hated that at the time.
- 1:43:58SPEAKER_00: Critics would have hated it.
- 1:43:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:43:59SPEAKER_00: What do you think it is?
- 1:44:03SPEAKER_00: Like 30.
- 1:44:05SPEAKER_00: 35.
- 1:44:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:44:09SPEAKER_00: And also you did say the thing about.
- 1:44:10SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, I realized I said that.
- 1:44:12SPEAKER_00: Didn't think about saying that.
- 1:44:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:44:13SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, but I would have got lower for sure.
- 1:44:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:44:16SPEAKER_00: I think it's obviously lower.
- 1:44:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:44:17SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:44:18SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, audience 67, which is fine.
- 1:44:21SPEAKER_00: Fine, yeah, I've still not seen it.
- 1:44:23SPEAKER_00: It's I don't rem I remember seeing it when it came out, but I don't r remember anything about it other than like, yeah.
- 1:44:28SPEAKER_00: Was it the same thing?
- 1:44:29SPEAKER_00: I mean it's the same guy who did uh Mortal Kombat.
- 1:44:32SPEAKER_00: And he made every other resident.
- 1:44:36SPEAKER_00: Who had to add the WS to differentiate himself from Paul Thomas Anderson.
- 1:44:44unknown: Oh.
- 1:44:45SPEAKER_00: Detective Pikachu.
- 1:44:46SPEAKER_00: This must be higher.
- 1:44:48SPEAKER_00: Must be higher.
- 1:44:49SPEAKER_00: So you think it's higher than 35?
- 1:44:50SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's n oh.
- 1:44:52SPEAKER_00: No, it must be higher than 35, but how much higher?
- 1:44:56SPEAKER_00: It's gotta be higher.
- 1:44:56SPEAKER_00: Detective Pikachu got okay reviews.
- 1:44:58SPEAKER_00: Are you going with higher?
- 1:45:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:45:02SPEAKER_00: 68.
- 1:45:02SPEAKER_00: Ooh.
- 1:45:04SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 1:45:04SPEAKER_00: That's strong.
- 1:45:05SPEAKER_00: It's close.
- 1:45:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:45:08SPEAKER_00: Takes the Pikachu Pikachu is pretty good.
- 1:45:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:45:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:45:11SPEAKER_00: That's probably about where I'd put it.
- 1:45:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:45:14SPEAKER_00: Um, so you got five?
- 1:45:16SPEAKER_00: Oh, wow.
- 1:45:17SPEAKER_00: So your current you can either you'll either go to the top of the leaderboard or you'll tie for first.
- 1:45:23SPEAKER_00: Oh, yes, fine.
- 1:45:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, great.
- 1:45:26SPEAKER_00: Last last one.
- 1:45:27SPEAKER_00: Tetris.
- 1:45:28SPEAKER_00: Oh, I have no idea what this one.
- 1:45:30SPEAKER_00: This is brand new.
- 1:45:31SPEAKER_00: I had to put it in because it's Tetris.
- 1:45:33SPEAKER_00: So it's higher.
- 1:45:33SPEAKER_00: Is it higher or lower than 68?
- 1:45:36SPEAKER_00: That's hard.
- 1:45:37SPEAKER_00: That's why I put it in.
- 1:45:39SPEAKER_00: That's so hard.
- 1:45:41SPEAKER_00: Because I knew you wouldn't know the score to this.
- 1:45:43SPEAKER_00: No, I would I wouldn't.
- 1:45:44SPEAKER_00: I think do people like this movie?
- 1:45:47SPEAKER_00: It sounds boring, but who directed it?
- 1:45:51SPEAKER_00: I feel like I don't know.
- 1:45:52SPEAKER_00: Taryn Edgerton is the lead in it.
- 1:45:55SPEAKER_00: It might be lower, but it could easily be I It's about the making of Tetris and not the Lord.
- 1:46:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's the thing.
- 1:46:01SPEAKER_00: It's not a video game like world.
- 1:46:04SPEAKER_00: But I can't remember if this is meant to be good or if it's just like a shitty movie like Tolkien where no one cares.
- 1:46:10SPEAKER_00: No one gives a shit.
- 1:46:13SPEAKER_00: It could easily be that.
- 1:46:15SPEAKER_00: It it could be this could be so close either way.
- 1:46:18SPEAKER_00: But I'll I will tell you this.
- 1:46:19SPEAKER_00: It's not close.
- 1:46:20SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 1:46:24SPEAKER_01: That's the only clue I'll give you.
- 1:46:25SPEAKER_00: It's not close.
- 1:46:26SPEAKER_00: I think it's a really good movie.
- 1:46:28SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:46:29SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go lower.
- 1:46:32SPEAKER_00: I think it's a a movie that fails to do what it does.
- 1:46:35SPEAKER_00: No! 82%! Yeah, I had no idea.
- 1:46:39SPEAKER_00: Certified fresh.
- 1:46:40SPEAKER_00: That's fair enough.
- 1:46:41SPEAKER_00: Fair enough.
- 1:46:42SPEAKER_00: Who made it?
- 1:46:43SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:46:45SPEAKER_00: Quite interesting, actually.
- 1:46:46SPEAKER_00: Let me find out.
- 1:46:48SPEAKER_00: I think it was like damn it.
- 1:46:51SPEAKER_00: 82.
- 1:46:53SPEAKER_00: So that puts you joint joint tour.
- 1:46:56SPEAKER_00: Joint first place with Joe Mandy.
- 1:46:58SPEAKER_00: Oh nice.
- 1:46:59SPEAKER_00: Joe Mandy, yeah.
- 1:47:00SPEAKER_00: Oh, he was in Soho recently, wasn't he?
- 1:47:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:47:04SPEAKER_00: John S.
- 1:47:05SPEAKER_00: Baird?
- 1:47:06SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, that guy.
- 1:47:07SPEAKER_00: See, I think he sucks, but uh John S.
- 1:47:10SPEAKER_00: Baird, what has he done?
- 1:47:11SPEAKER_00: Oh, I thought you were joking.
- 1:47:12SPEAKER_00: John S.
- 1:47:13SPEAKER_00: Baird.
- 1:47:15SPEAKER_00: Stan and Oli.
- 1:47:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:47:16SPEAKER_00: Well his previous movies had Vol.
- 1:47:18SPEAKER_00: Filf.
- 1:47:19SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:47:20SPEAKER_00: Isn't Phil for sequel to something?
- 1:47:24SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:47:24SPEAKER_00: It's a sequel to something.
- 1:47:25SPEAKER_00: I've never heard of it.
- 1:47:26SPEAKER_00: John S Bad.
- 1:47:27SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:47:28SPEAKER_00: Hmm.
- 1:47:29SPEAKER_00: Maybe.
- 1:47:29SPEAKER_00: May yeah.
- 1:47:30SPEAKER_00: Maybe it is a good movie.
- 1:47:31SPEAKER_00: Maybe.
- 1:47:32SPEAKER_00: 82 is quite low these days though.
- 1:47:34SPEAKER_00: It's alright.
- 1:47:36SPEAKER_00: You're always like, oh, it could be bad.
- 1:47:38SPEAKER_00: It could be a bad movie, like 82, or it could be a good movie which is maligned.
- 1:47:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:47:44SPEAKER_00: I bet it's like quite boring.
- 1:47:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it looks kind of boring.
- 1:47:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, do we really need it?
- 1:47:49SPEAKER_00: Do we need those kind of I don't know anything about the the Tetris guy, so I don't really care to watch it.
- 1:47:56SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna see it ever.
- 1:47:57SPEAKER_00: I don't think probably not.
- 1:47:58SPEAKER_00: That's why I thought it would be like Tolkien.
- 1:48:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:48:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I can see your thinking then.
- 1:48:02SPEAKER_00: I have no idea why why anyone wants all like the Christopher Robin movie.
- 1:48:05SPEAKER_00: I would have expected it to be bad.
- 1:48:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:48:07SPEAKER_00: As well.
- 1:48:08SPEAKER_00: I think someone said it was bad, but.
- 1:48:19SPEAKER_00: Uh I don't like Blade Runner, the second one.
- 1:48:22SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 1:48:23SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 1:48:24SPEAKER_00: What's your dislike of that?
- 1:48:25SPEAKER_00: Aaron Ross Powell, I just thought it was boring, the plot wasn't good.
- 1:48:28SPEAKER_00: Do you like the original?
- 1:48:30SPEAKER_00: I don't even love the original that much, really.
- 1:48:33SPEAKER_00: I'm not that fan of it.
- 1:48:34SPEAKER_00: I don't think either have that good stories or characters.
- 1:48:39SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's just a lack of good characters.
- 1:48:41SPEAKER_00: I really like them.
- 1:48:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and most people do.
- 1:48:43SPEAKER_00: But I really The second one I think I liked for the first half, and the second half I just really hated.
- 1:48:49SPEAKER_00: I hated the Trevor Burrus Which um have you seen a a few versions of the original?
- 1:48:53SPEAKER_00: I've seen a few, I think.
- 1:48:54SPEAKER_00: I think I've seen all of the all of the versions.
- 1:48:57SPEAKER_00: So many versions.
- 1:48:58SPEAKER_00: I don't even know which ones I like and which ones I don't.
- 1:49:00SPEAKER_00: I saw it in the cinema once, yeah.
- 1:49:02SPEAKER_00: I think I liked it more in the cinema than I saw at home, so maybe I watched the wrong version at home.
- 1:49:07SPEAKER_00: Um but I still still not my favourite Harrison Ford movie, really.
- 1:49:11SPEAKER_00: And I don't know.
- 1:49:12SPEAKER_00: I think it just I I think uh I think I get why people like them, but I just don't like the stories that much.
- 1:49:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:49:18SPEAKER_00: The second one, the ending, just I don't know.
- 1:49:21SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't know why it ends that way.
- 1:49:23SPEAKER_00: I don't like the the last three minutes, it's just like, oh, I can't see anything that's happening.
- 1:49:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's boring.
- 1:49:31SPEAKER_00: I thought it peaked in the sand bit.
- 1:49:33SPEAKER_00: The sand was cool.
- 1:49:34SPEAKER_00: And then it was like the light in the rain, it's like, oh, we get it, it's the rain again, but it's like this fight, I can't see what's happening.
- 1:49:42SPEAKER_00: But fair enough.
- 1:49:43SPEAKER_00: I I respect anyone who likes those movies.
- 1:49:46SPEAKER_00: I like Deneval Nouveau as well.
- 1:49:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:49:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I like Arrival a lot.
- 1:49:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:49:52SPEAKER_00: Arrival on Pixel.
- 1:49:52SPEAKER_00: I'm excited for Dune 2.
- 1:49:53SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen Dune 1 yet.
- 1:49:55SPEAKER_00: It's it's fine, but like I know that the next one's gonna be like Have you seen the David Lynch?
- 1:50:00SPEAKER_00: Dune.
- 1:50:00SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:50:01SPEAKER_00: That's a funny movie.
- 1:50:02SPEAKER_00: It's so weird.
- 1:50:03SPEAKER_00: It's kind of bad, but it's interesting.
- 1:50:07SPEAKER_00: It's kinda bad.
- 1:50:09SPEAKER_00: Kind of bad, but like fun.
- 1:50:10SPEAKER_00: Has a massive cast.
- 1:50:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it does.
- 1:50:12SPEAKER_00: It has Sting as the villain.
- 1:50:15SPEAKER_00: I don't even know if Sting was an actor.
- 1:50:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:50:16SPEAKER_00: I don't know if he ever was an actor, but he was the villain.
- 1:50:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:50:20SPEAKER_00: It's it's great.
- 1:50:21SPEAKER_00: Fair enough.
- 1:50:22SPEAKER_00: Met him once and.
- 1:50:24SPEAKER_00: Have you?
- 1:50:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and not.
- 1:50:26SPEAKER_00: How did you meet him?
- 1:50:27SPEAKER_00: Um at a I was cater I was working in a catering company for and it was a private party.
- 1:50:34SPEAKER_00: I feel like someone I know tutors his kids, but I may have made that up.
- 1:50:39SPEAKER_00: I know someone who tutors James Corden's kids.
- 1:50:42SPEAKER_00: Well not tutors, tutors like like babysits.
- 1:50:45SPEAKER_00: Oh no.
- 1:50:46SPEAKER_00: For them.
- 1:50:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:50:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:50:48SPEAKER_00: For them, but I think they also got to go to California for free.
- 1:50:51SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 1:50:52SPEAKER_00: They were like like a proper nanny.
- 1:50:54SPEAKER_00: Oh, fair enough.
- 1:50:55SPEAKER_00: I I just can't even imagine what that would be like.
- 1:50:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:50:59SPEAKER_00: But yeah, Sting.
- 1:51:01SPEAKER_00: James Corden came up on last week.
- 1:51:03SPEAKER_00: Did he?
- 1:51:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:51:04SPEAKER_00: What was that film again?
- 1:51:06SPEAKER_00: Oh we were talking about um Rocky IV, but like we were just challenged James Corden.
- 1:51:12SPEAKER_00: Imagine James Corden was the one that Rocky had to fight.
- 1:51:17SPEAKER_00: It would be a pretty easy fight.
- 1:51:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that that they should make that.
- 1:51:21SPEAKER_00: For the next Rocky movie.
- 1:51:24SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean Rocky's not even in them anymore.
- 1:51:26SPEAKER_00: No, it's Creed.
- 1:51:26SPEAKER_00: It's Creed.
- 1:51:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but he's now Creed III is the first one that Rocky's not in at all.
- 1:51:31SPEAKER_00: He's not in at all.
- 1:51:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:51:33SPEAKER_00: So he's in Creed 2, but he's not in Creed.
- 1:51:38SPEAKER_00: Someone from Creed will become the next main character and then pass on forever.
- 1:51:43SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean in because of Rocky it has to be someone from the first Rocky.
- 1:51:49SPEAKER_00: So Rocky I and II is Creed.
- 1:51:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:51:52SPEAKER_00: So it has to be.
- 1:51:54SPEAKER_00: It has to be someone from Creed I or I.
- 1:51:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:51:56SPEAKER_00: And one of their children.
- 1:51:58SPEAKER_00: Do you remember when they were trying to make Milo and Tamiglia the main guy?
- 1:52:02SPEAKER_00: Were they ever trying to make him the main guy, or was he just like trying to be the son?
- 1:52:05SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:52:05SPEAKER_00: I feel like they were trying to set him up, but it's hard not to be a good one.
- 1:52:08SPEAKER_00: It was just Rocky Valboa, wasn't it?
- 1:52:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:52:11SPEAKER_00: But it didn't work.
- 1:52:12SPEAKER_00: He was too skinny as well.
- 1:52:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:52:14SPEAKER_00: That was weird.
- 1:52:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:52:15SPEAKER_00: What a what a strange time.
- 1:52:16SPEAKER_00: But I r I I love the Creed movies.
- 1:52:18SPEAKER_00: I think they're really good.
- 1:52:19SPEAKER_00: I could watch them.
- 1:52:19SPEAKER_00: I've said I mean Ryan Kugler is an amazing director, so I'm not surprised.
- 1:52:23SPEAKER_00: I remember Creed One being pretty big.
- 1:52:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah, he's only directed Creed One.
- 1:52:27SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 1:52:28SPEAKER_00: Who did the others?
- 1:52:29SPEAKER_00: Uh Creed 2 is I can't remember the guy who did Creed 2.
- 1:52:34SPEAKER_00: It's like not a big director, but it's like someone that works with Ryan Kugler.
- 1:52:38SPEAKER_00: But then Creed III is Michael B.
- 1:52:39SPEAKER_00: Jordan.
- 1:52:40SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 1:52:41SPEAKER_00: He's so talented.
- 1:52:42SPEAKER_00: And he does a good job.
- 1:52:43SPEAKER_00: He's so talented.
- 1:52:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man.
- 1:52:45SPEAKER_00: I went back and watched so I hadn't seen it.
- 1:52:47SPEAKER_00: Um I hadn't seen it when we were talking about Rocky IV last week.
- 1:52:51SPEAKER_00: But then I went and watched it.
- 1:52:52SPEAKER_00: It was really good.
- 1:52:53SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 1:52:54SPEAKER_00: I enjoyed it.
- 1:52:54SPEAKER_00: Michael B.
- 1:52:55SPEAKER_00: Jordan.
- 1:52:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's a very good director.
- 1:52:56SPEAKER_00: He's a very he's just a very talented director.
- 1:52:58SPEAKER_00: He is.
- 1:52:58SPEAKER_00: He's like he's too good at everything.
- 1:53:00SPEAKER_00: He's too good.
- 1:53:01SPEAKER_00: He's been doing it since he was a kid.
- 1:53:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:53:03SPEAKER_00: Incredible.
- 1:53:04SPEAKER_00: Every role he's in, he's good.
- 1:53:05SPEAKER_00: Even in The Wire when he's so young.
- 1:53:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:53:07SPEAKER_00: He's in even in uh that shitty Fantastic Four movie.
- 1:53:12SPEAKER_00: Oh! He's not particularly good at that, but no one's good.
- 1:53:17SPEAKER_00: No one's good in that.
- 1:53:18SPEAKER_00: Big cast, no one's good.
- 1:53:20SPEAKER_00: They don't know what they're doing in that.
- 1:53:21SPEAKER_00: They don't want to be in it.
- 1:53:23SPEAKER_00: My favourite thing was Josh Trank said this there was a cut of it which No, what was it?
- 1:53:28SPEAKER_00: He said.
- 1:53:29SPEAKER_00: He said that there was a cut of it which is a cut of it that's supposed to be his version.
- 1:53:32SPEAKER_00: His director's cut is supposed to be his idea.
- 1:53:34SPEAKER_00: And he's like, it's the best film ever.
- 1:53:37SPEAKER_00: But they won't let you see it.
- 1:53:39SPEAKER_00: And then he went on to make uh then he made another film.
- 1:53:42SPEAKER_00: Um did he make any more films after that?
- 1:53:44SPEAKER_00: He made one film after that with um Tom Hardy.
- 1:53:49SPEAKER_00: It's uh Capone.
- 1:53:51SPEAKER_00: Capone.
- 1:53:52SPEAKER_00: Capone, yeah, now Capone movie.
- 1:53:53SPEAKER_00: Tom Hardy played Capone.
- 1:53:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's hard.
- 1:53:56SPEAKER_00: And it's supposed to be so bad.
- 1:53:58SPEAKER_00: Cool.
- 1:53:59SPEAKER_00: So it's just like, well, I'm not gonna trust you about your version of Fantastic Four being good.
- 1:54:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just not now.
- 1:54:05SPEAKER_00: Probably it's hard to see a good version of that movie.
- 1:54:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:54:07SPEAKER_00: There's nothing in it to make it like I can't see what would be good.
- 1:54:11SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:54:11SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:54:12SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm irredeemable with that movie.
- 1:54:14SPEAKER_00: It's really bad.
- 1:54:15SPEAKER_00: It's one of the worst movies I've ever seen, I think.
- 1:54:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'd rather watch the other Fantastic Four movies.
- 1:54:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, that's I'd rather watch the 94 version.
- 1:54:22SPEAKER_00: The 94 version, I've not seen that.
- 1:54:23SPEAKER_00: The the two hours version, not the worst.
- 1:54:26SPEAKER_00: Do you know about the 94 version?
- 1:54:28SPEAKER_00: Vaguely, I can see trailers of it, yeah.
- 1:54:31SPEAKER_00: It's uh it's something.
- 1:54:32SPEAKER_00: It's rough.
- 1:54:32SPEAKER_00: Quite it's it's made to keep the rights to the movie.
- 1:54:35SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 1:54:37SPEAKER_00: They have no purpose of anything.
- 1:54:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:54:39SPEAKER_00: And it and you can tell.
- 1:54:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:54:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:54:42SPEAKER_00: Still better than the than the other one.
- 1:54:44SPEAKER_00: The f F4.
- 1:54:46SPEAKER_00: F Fortastic.
- 1:54:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, F Fortastic.
- 1:54:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:54:50SPEAKER_00: Um Fair enough.
