- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by Shnook Sidri. This is episode 553.
- 0:19I'll be your host, Kyle Corwin. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:23Reyes. Nate.
- 0:28Casey, how are we at all? How are we?
- 0:32We have fun one today. I'm looking forward to this.
- 0:34This is going to be good the trade deadline predictions
- 0:39episode. For those of you wondering,
- 0:43we're not necessarily on the eve of the trade deadline or
- 0:47anything of that matter, but we're quickly, I think this
- 0:50stuff's. Going to start happening this
- 0:52week. I really do some of the early
- 0:54moves. Yeah, we are rapidly
- 0:56approaching. I I think I was actually
- 1:00thinking about today. I think we're we're quickly
- 1:02approaching Dugout watch season. Love good dugout watch.
- 1:08I think we're approaching early splash season, so we figured,
- 1:12you know what, let's just let's just lump it all together.
- 1:14Let's get out in front of the yeah, in front of the momentum
- 1:18and and dive into some moves that we think could happen and
- 1:23presumably will happen for some of these guys.
- 1:25I think we can say almost without a doubt that a handful
- 1:28of these names will be on the move.
- 1:30It's a matter of where. But then I think we may even
- 1:33sprinkle in a few names that could could go either way, maybe
- 1:38maybe stay and put, but also could be on the move as well.
- 1:41So with that said, how do you want you want to start by just
- 1:47maybe running through the standings here real quick and
- 1:50then sort of getting a feel because now we're on the other
- 1:53side of the All Star break. Right.
- 1:55I think that's like a good time to kind of check back in, you
- 1:59know? Sort of, you know, we had, we
- 2:00had a little bit time off. We've most teams are, are
- 2:04wrapping up their first series post All Star break.
- 2:07So I think now is a good time to check in on the status of some
- 2:10of these teams, see where, see where they may be at in terms of
- 2:15approach, in terms of moves to be made or, you know, whether
- 2:20buying or selling. So let's let's let's take a look
- 2:24around the league, shall we? Where you want to start.
- 2:29Let's start in the NL. We always start in the NL.
- 2:31Let's give the NL some love. All right, lead the way for us.
- 2:37I think the NL W is kind of a fun story just because it's been
- 2:42a little back and forth. It's it's got some good teams in
- 2:45there. It's got teams that are very
- 2:47much in the wild card hunt. It's got buyers, it's got
- 2:51sellers. So the Nos is a is a very
- 2:54interesting situation right now. Obviously the Dodgers are at the
- 2:58top. We got the Padres 4 1/2 back at
- 3:01the moment, Giants in 3rd at 6 1/2 back and then a very the
- 3:08very disappointing year in in the Arizona Diamondbacks 9 games
- 3:14back. Currently a game under 500.
- 3:16Just a very talented roster that underperformed.
- 3:20I know some injuries were part of the mix, but like I I think
- 3:22this is a very strange team this year.
- 3:27Underperforming is a is a good word to, you know, slap on the D
- 3:32backs this year. Yeah, yeah.
- 3:34Where it's like you're not going to see like a fire sale.
- 3:37I think they still have a very good core.
- 3:39They have a lot of good pieces, but I think there's going to be
- 3:43some big names because there's a lot of talent on their roster
- 3:46that are moved. Well, here's the quick, here's a
- 3:49quick question though. You said you don't think they'll
- 3:50be a fire sale, but I've seen, I mean, I think I don't short of
- 3:56them going public with the exact list of names, I think we've
- 4:01heard enough names that are quote, UN quote available that
- 4:04should they go could amount to some variation of a of a fire
- 4:09sale. I think fire, I I don't know.
- 4:11For me, fire sale means like the that no one remains untouchable.
- 4:17I look at, you know, Corbin Burns, I look at Corbin Carroll,
- 4:21I look at Katel Marte. Sure.
- 4:24Those guys aren't going anywhere.
- 4:25Perdomo, those guys aren't going anywhere.
- 4:28I think Gabby Moreno just went on the 60 day, so obviously he's
- 4:32not going anywhere. So a fire light sale?
- 4:36Yeah, yeah, yeah. Amazing.
- 4:38Like it's like a, we're not, it's not like a liquidation
- 4:40sale, but it is like we're closing some stores, we're
- 4:43closing a bunch of locations, you know, not all locations, but
- 4:47we're closing locations. It's, it's, it's one of those
- 4:50sales, those going out of business sales that you see just
- 4:53about on every street corner where it's we're going out of
- 4:56business, everything must go. You drive past the same store,
- 5:00right. The next year, they're still
- 5:02there. They're saying, right,
- 5:04everything must go. Yeah, kind of a similar
- 5:07situation there. Right.
- 5:09Like you're like I, I need to swing by this store.
- 5:13I think there's one up here on the corner.
- 5:17Next thing you know, it's that Halloween costume place and
- 5:19you're like, oh wow, I guess I got to go to the other one on
- 5:22the other side of town, which is still there, but like, it's just
- 5:26inconvenient. That's the situation that
- 5:28Arizona Diamondbacks are in. That's fair.
- 5:30Yeah. Do you want to you want to start
- 5:31with them because? No disrespect.
- 5:33The Rockies are in last, by the way.
- 5:35Yeah, no, we. 33 1/2 games out of.
- 5:40The essentially, I mean over 30 games.
- 5:43Good night at the. Break that's crazy currently 50
- 5:49games under 500 dear Lord, insane let well, I I know we're
- 5:54going to bounce around the league, but do you just want to
- 5:57well let me ask you, do you want to just jump in right now since
- 6:01we're talking to you backs or do you want to continue our our our
- 6:04bird's eye view around the league and then come.
- 6:06Back No, I I like this. Let's just kind of hop around,
- 6:09which would when tossing in some players relevant to that team.
- 6:13So I think we mentioned the untouchables, but there's some
- 6:18clear names that have been a lot of rumors.
- 6:21I think leading the pack is Gino Suarez.
- 6:23That has been the most conversation about him.
- 6:28Some other names in there is is Lourdes Garrio and then an
- 6:33interesting situation with like a very underperforming Zach
- 6:38Allen, who is set to be in a walk year and then Merrill
- 6:42Kelly. I think those are like the most
- 6:47common names. And then little bit of a
- 6:50conversation with Josh Naylor too, because he is only in a one
- 6:54year deal. So he's set to be a free agent
- 6:58at the end of the year. So this is there's like a good
- 7:02batch of names that have control but are also rentals that I
- 7:07could see being moved and and I think it'd be smart for the
- 7:10Diamondbacks to eat off those names.
- 7:12So where you want to start? Which which name?
- 7:15Let's start with Gino. He's first on my list and I
- 7:18think first on the list of many hopeful fans, not just with some
- 7:25of these popular trade targets, but I think there's a lot of
- 7:27fans out there that maybe, even if incorrectly viewing the
- 7:32situation, would want Gino Suarez on their team right now.
- 7:38I, however, have not gone with one of those far fetched teams.
- 7:42I think this fit makes a lot of sense and I'm curious if we have
- 7:49the same destination. What you got, pal?
- 7:53I've got Eugenio Suarez going to the Detroit Tigers.
- 7:57Really, I don't have that, but I don't hate it.
- 8:00Eugenio Suarez going back I back to the Tigers, some forget some
- 8:06forget 2014, 2014 Tigers legend Eugenio Suarez.
- 8:12Mind you, his look, his strikeout numbers are down and
- 8:16even I mean for much of his career, but I I feel like,
- 8:20especially the start to the year that he had this year, my it was
- 8:24still my primary focus of like he just seems like a very
- 8:28singular dimensional player. And he's he's made some some
- 8:34changes to his approach at the plate this year has resulted in
- 8:39some of the I'd have to go back and check.
- 8:41But I think some of the lower strikeout numbers of you know,
- 8:45in terms of rates in his career, at least going back to, you
- 8:49know, late twenty 10s. But I just think with him being
- 8:57one of the top names at the deadline, you've got the Tigers
- 8:59as one of the top teams in baseball.
- 9:02Have been and you and you mentioned it off off here before
- 9:04hopped on that they have apparently the number one farm
- 9:07system. Deep in the farm system, I just
- 9:12feel like this is a chance for the Tigers to make a splash that
- 9:18maybe not too many other teams would be willing to make.
- 9:21Yeah. And really solidify yourself in
- 9:24what we have continued to call a weak American League.
- 9:28Yeah, And really separate yourself from the rest of the
- 9:31pack. Yeah, I like that.
- 9:35I don't have Gino Suarez going to Detroit, but I do have him
- 9:40going to the Central in the form of the NL Central.
- 9:46I have him going to the Chicago Cubs.
- 9:49Really. Yeah, I think that's one of the
- 9:53few holes that the that the Cubs have is that third base.
- 9:59I think they're going to do some other fun stuff, which we can
- 10:02get to later. But yeah, man, I think that team
- 10:07needs some pop. They're pretty much middle of
- 10:10the road in a lot of offensive categories and I think they
- 10:13could use a little bit of of stuff, but there's really not a
- 10:19ton of holes that they have. I just think they're going to
- 10:22make a smart move and and go get the one guy that they need to go
- 10:25get. So I'm putting Gino Suarez at
- 10:28the top of that list for them. I think there's a lot of teams,
- 10:33like you were saying, Gino Suarez is is being looked at by
- 10:36a lot of different teams. But I just think like the Cubs
- 10:42don't need a ton. I don't think they're going to
- 10:43make a bunch of moves and might as well just go all in on like
- 10:47one move. And we've talked about it
- 10:49before, like having Kyle Tucker, this is like the year where you
- 10:53got to, you got to really go for it.
- 10:55So that's a good move for them. But I don't hate the Tigers
- 10:58pick. You don't.
- 11:01I do not hate that. No, no love for Matt Shaw, you
- 11:05think? I like Matt Shaw, but I.
- 11:07Did enough of the experiment. Yeah, I, I don't, I think
- 11:10there's a good future there, I really do.
- 11:13But you're saying double down now while you got the chance?
- 11:16Yeah, like double down now while the pieces are in place.
- 11:19Like I don't think it's, it eliminates the future of Matt
- 11:23Shaw being the guy or moving forward.
- 11:25I just think it's kind of a piece that's needed right away.
- 11:28So but. Let's talk about the arms in in
- 11:33Arizona, you mentioned Merrill, Kelly, Zach Gallon.
- 11:39Look, I've seen, believe it or not, both names attached to the
- 11:44Boston Red Sox. But hear me out.
- 11:47I think with the track record for the Boston Red Sox, you're
- 11:52either going to get, if you're the Red Sox, you're going to get
- 11:55a an uninspiring name and maybe roll the dice to where you don't
- 12:03have to take as big of a big of a risk in terms of what you're
- 12:08what you're sending back or pain.
- 12:11Where, you know, whether we're talking deadline or offseason
- 12:14with, I mean, obviously a couple exceptions as of late, but track
- 12:18record over the the over the years has has proven that you're
- 12:21either going to take that route or you're going to go get the
- 12:25guy. I don't think the Red Sox are
- 12:27going to be willing to go after a guy like Zach Gallon, who has
- 12:32shown you what he can do but is having, for all intents and
- 12:37purposes, a not great year. Yeah.
- 12:40So I don't think the Red Sox are are going if if it wasn't going
- 12:45to require the price tag that I think Zach Gallon is going to
- 12:49carry with him at the deadline at that might be a guy that
- 12:52they'd roll the dice on. But I think because of the name,
- 12:55that's not necessarily going to be a place they they they look
- 12:59to Merrill Kelly, however, having the undoubtedly better
- 13:04year. Yeah.
- 13:06But what does that? What is the?
- 13:08What is the return for Merrill Kelly look like?
- 13:12Well, I don't think anything crazy.
- 13:13I think it's high. I actually would say the return
- 13:16for Merrill Kelly is higher than than Zach Gallon just because of
- 13:22the performance they're both said to be at the end of the
- 13:24year. So I think Kelly's going to ask
- 13:26for a little bit more and getting into that conversation
- 13:30because you've already brought them up.
- 13:31I actually have the Red Sox landing 2 Arizona Diamondbacks.
- 13:36I have them getting Merrill Kelly and I also have them
- 13:39getting Josh Naylor. Really.
- 13:42I have them getting both. Again.
- 13:46It's just one of those things were like, you look at a team
- 13:49like the Red Sox, so you can speak to this better than I can,
- 13:51but you look at a team that has like a really good young core
- 13:55offensively hasn't necessarily been a struggle, but first base
- 13:58has just been a little weird. But they're still like, hey, we
- 14:03have a great future, but we're winning now.
- 14:08How do we get some names in here right away that don't
- 14:10necessarily log jam the future? And those are two names that are
- 14:16going to come in that they're going to probably leave this
- 14:19offseason to go elsewhere. So yeah, I have them getting
- 14:24both. I know, I know Abraham Toro's on
- 14:26a little bit of a slide. I think he's like one for his
- 14:29last 20 years or something to that effects.
- 14:33But All in all, I think the Red Sox have been happy with the
- 14:36platoon of Toro and Romo Gonzalez.
- 14:39It's been serviceable. It's been in some instances
- 14:43better than what they could have expected.
- 14:46So I I'm not saying that they would be out on Naylor, but it
- 14:51would lead me to lead me to believe rather that their focus
- 14:56would be more so on the pitching side.
- 15:00Yeah, just because they're getting it done from a
- 15:03positional perspective at first base.
- 15:08But I do like your pick of of Merrill Kelly.
- 15:10And in my head, and the reason I brought up the red I.
- 15:12I looks like a Red Sox, doesn't he?
- 15:14Yeah. The reason I brought up Kelly
- 15:15and Gallon being both being linked to the Red Sox is I feel
- 15:18like I feel like they would get they would be interested in
- 15:22going after one of those two because you're, you're starting
- 15:24to see more of these reports about the Red Sox.
- 15:27You know, the now that they went on this 10 game heater, granted
- 15:29they're knocking on the door of a sweep at the hands of the
- 15:32Cubs. So that sort of negates the good
- 15:35vibes that we're rolling out of the break with you're, you're
- 15:39still seeing these reports resurfacing.
- 15:42You're starting to see a little bit of the momentum saying that
- 15:44they're they're back to being a legitimate World Series
- 15:46contender with when when all things are clicking.
- 15:50So I think they they go out and try to add to that rotation.
- 15:53So I think they would get one of these two guys.
- 15:55But I also feel like whichever guy that they do get, the other
- 15:58guy, believe it or not, I feel like I have going to the
- 16:01Yankees. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:05And to me, Mary Kelly makes more sense for the Red Sox because he
- 16:09just seems to fit the profile more of the type of move they
- 16:12would make. As I was mentioning, maybe not
- 16:13so willing to roll the dice on a on a very iffy Zach Gallon right
- 16:16now. And correct me if I'm wrong,
- 16:18though, the Yankees have made moves like that where maybe it's
- 16:23a guy who had a run, maybe having a little bit of a down
- 16:28year, and they're like, let's see if we can get out of this
- 16:29guy. Definitely because they look at
- 16:31they look at a specific pitch or a specific pitch ability and
- 16:36say, hey, like your usage has been down, but we have you being
- 16:40very successful with that pitch. Let's ramp that usage up and
- 16:44just kind of change your philosophy.
- 16:46A lot like a Clay Holmes with the Pirates, when he comes over,
- 16:50he's like, let's go heavy sinker and you saw a lot of success
- 16:54from him. So that's not a bad story at
- 16:57all. I have another move that the
- 17:01Yankees are going to do that. I'm not sure if they have the
- 17:08prospect capital to do that plus this and the Yankees.
- 17:12I mean, I did think about Gino Suarez being packaged with a
- 17:17Zach Allen to the Yankees. But my problem with these names
- 17:23are and, and I'd think where the Yankees typically find
- 17:25themselves that they're not willing to move on from
- 17:29prospects without having some control.
- 17:32And the fact that Gino Suarez and Zach Allen and Merrill Kelly
- 17:38are all set to be free agents in the offseason.
- 17:40The Yankees don't love going all in on just Reynolds.
- 17:45They like having a little bit of control.
- 17:48I think Spencer Jones, by the way, is, is absolutely going in
- 17:52whatever deal they do. And it would need control.
- 17:56It would need control. So that's why I kind of backed
- 17:58out a little bit on that. But I don't hate that pick.
- 18:03I actually have Zach Allen staying put.
- 18:06I I think, I just don't think the teams are going to value him
- 18:10as high as the D backs value him.
- 18:12And I, I have a feeling D backs just don't get the offer that
- 18:15they're looking for for that name, just how bad he's been
- 18:18this year. Yeah, they're they're not in a
- 18:20position of much leverage right now with right the way he's been
- 18:23thrown at this year. That's fair.
- 18:25Yeah, where are we at with the oh, I have my last D back name
- 18:30and then we can move on. I don't know if you had Lourdes
- 18:32Guriel. I did not, but I'm I'm curious
- 18:34to hear. I'm going to the Giants
- 18:37actually. I think that they have like a
- 18:41little bit of a rotation with their corner outfield in DH.
- 18:45If Devers can start to get some time at first.
- 18:48I don't know if that's just that's the end of the story with
- 18:51it. I'm not really totally sure, but
- 18:55yeah, either way you can kind of rotate between Elliot Ramos, Yaz
- 19:00and I think Lourdes Guriel. So I had that as a as a little
- 19:06fun name going there, but I think that kind of rounds out my
- 19:10D back talk. Keep it in the West.
- 19:15I'm just sort of bounced around my list here.
- 19:19The National like W that is. Yeah.
- 19:22I have American League DH representative shout out Raphael
- 19:31Devers. Thanks for this honor on behalf
- 19:34of Ryan O'hearn. Ryan O'hearn to the Giants.
- 19:40This, this fit just makes a lot of sense to me because
- 19:43currently, right now, your first base situation for the Giants is
- 19:46Dom Smith and Wilmer Flores platooning.
- 19:50Why not go get one of the and you know, we, no disrespect, we
- 19:54make we, we've been making jokes about Ryan O'hearn, you know,
- 19:57pre post All Star, All Star break talking about like, is
- 20:01this really one of the best bats that's going to be available?
- 20:03But the reality of it is he's hitting 282 with 11 jacks, OPS
- 20:08135 or OPS plus of 135. I think it'll, I think it's
- 20:13going to play in Oracle and I, I think that'll bring a little bit
- 20:16of. You know, I'm, I'm a
- 20:19traditional, this may age me, I don't know, but I feel like I'm
- 20:24a, I'm a traditional positional guy.
- 20:27I understand the value of the, the increasing value of platoons
- 20:30and matchups and everything, but I think we've gone a little too
- 20:34far with platoons and trying to, you know, fine tune every single
- 20:39match up instead of letting guys just be.
- 20:41Athletes, man, they used to just be like 1 platoon position per
- 20:46team. They used to just be like, hey,
- 20:48like our third base is kind of a hole.
- 20:49Let's just figure out the position.
- 20:51Now it's like. Every position, yeah, it's
- 20:53crazy. So I'm like, let's bring a
- 20:55little bit of consistency to the first base position for a
- 20:58Giant's team. That's playing well.
- 21:03I mean, they're only two games out of the wild card, 6 1/2 back
- 21:05out of the division. So I mean, definitely not a a
- 21:08giant leap in either of those races, even with, you know, the
- 21:13Dodgers leading the way there. But I've got Ryan Ahern going to
- 21:18the Bay. I like that.
- 21:21I like that. Do you want to keep talking a
- 21:24little Giants buying? Because I do have one more name
- 21:30that I have on my list outside of Lourdes Curielle.
- 21:33We got. I got.
- 21:35Luis Severino going to the Giants I.
- 21:40Let's just cut, let's just sort of snake this episode, you know,
- 21:44like if there's a connection made.
- 21:46Let's just let's just kind of just.
- 21:48Ride the wave. Yeah, because I've, I've got
- 21:50Luis Severino on my list, but you've got him going, going to
- 21:53the Bay. I've got him going to the Bay.
- 21:56Staying in the Bay, I I get, yeah.
- 21:57Yeah, yeah, kind of. Well, former.
- 22:00Former yeah. Former Yeah.
- 22:03Yeah, I mean, I, I think just, you know, Birdsong has been OK.
- 22:08Verlander has been, you know, not what they were hoping for.
- 22:11I think they're going to have to look at this postseason as
- 22:15needing more than just more than just the top 2 starters in, in
- 22:22Robbie Ray and, and what's his face?
- 22:29Why can't I think of his name? Who's their ace?
- 22:32I can picture his face right now.
- 22:34Oh, Logan Webb. Logan Webb, thank.
- 22:35You sorry, I was looking at, I was looking at his numbers with
- 22:38the. Yeah, I think they need AI,
- 22:41think they need a third arm. And I think I'd be excited with
- 22:44the fact that like what Luis Severino's done on the road this
- 22:48year and you know, being polar opposite, basically going from
- 22:54the most extreme hitter's park in Sacramento to a pretty
- 23:00difficult hitter's park in in San Francisco.
- 23:03So I got him going as a giant all.
- 23:08Right. Well, if we're going to snake
- 23:09this thing, if we're adjusting our approach to this episode,
- 23:12that's. Fine, let's.
- 23:13Keep it riding with Luis Severino.
- 23:15I've got Luis Severino going back to the Mets.
- 23:19I saw that. I've seen that a little bit back
- 23:22to the Met. Real interesting.
- 23:23If you're the Mets, you, you just need innings.
- 23:27I mean, let's, let's call a spade a spade.
- 23:29You're a team that needs innings right now and, you know, is as
- 23:32excited as I was about the Clay Holmes edition.
- 23:36Who has been? I'm delighted.
- 23:39Solid. Solid, but I think you have.
- 23:41To running out of innings. Yeah.
- 23:43I was going to say you, you're going to have to anticipate a
- 23:45little bit of having to pump the brakes a little bit there to
- 23:49just sort of bring that train to a stop because you you're just
- 23:52going to be able to ride it for so long.
- 23:55Luis Severino last year with the Mets gave you 182 innings.
- 24:01We went 11 and seven with a 391. So it's not going to be, it's
- 24:06not necessarily going to be a, a front end fix that you might be
- 24:10looking for, but bringing a guy that made it work there.
- 24:18And you know, if, if you're Severino and you're looking to
- 24:22get out, while you're very clearly looking to get out of
- 24:24Sacramento. And I think Sacramento is very
- 24:27clearly looking to get him out of there.
- 24:29So this just see, I, I think Severino is going to be on the
- 24:32move. That relationship went bad
- 24:34quick, didn't it? Real quick.
- 24:35And if you're Severino talk about a fleece man, you you you
- 24:39get you get the the largest A's contract in history and then
- 24:44you're gone before the deadline back to a place where you
- 24:50ultimately made that contract happen because A saw what you
- 24:53did in in Queens and and liked what they saw.
- 24:56So I've got him going back to the Mets.
- 25:00So by snaking do you are you saying like team like we should
- 25:04stay on the Mets right now because I got a couple of names
- 25:07if. You want, if you want, if you
- 25:08want to go Mets, let's go with the Mets.
- 25:11All right, Well, just to kind of stay with a little bit of our
- 25:16theme started out the Mets are currently a game and a half back
- 25:20from the Phillies and then at least and hold the second wild
- 25:27card spot then that no game and a half up on that.
- 25:32I am going to give the Mets a couple names.
- 25:36I'm going to go more low key with names, but I think
- 25:41impactful first name being Andrew Heaney.
- 25:46You said they need innings. I think this is a fairly
- 25:50affordable name that has has been pretty solid this year.
- 25:57So I don't really have the ton of feel behind that.
- 26:01It's kind of just like a gut, you know, shoot from the hip
- 26:04kind of name. But my other name has gotten a
- 26:11lot of attention, which I don't know how I feel about.
- 26:16I'm I feel like it's kind of misplaced, but I I guess it's
- 26:19been better. Is Johan Moncada from the
- 26:23angels? I have him also going to the
- 26:26Mets. You want Moncada being in trade
- 26:31rumors in the year 2025 as crazy baffles me.
- 26:36Crazy absolutely baffles me. He's gotten a lot of attention,
- 26:39man and I I think the Mets are just kind of at this weird place
- 26:46at third base, man. Like it it's, I know Vientos
- 26:50started off, you know, in, in the system trying to figure some
- 26:55stuff out. There's some injury involved
- 26:57there, but like him and Brett Beatty haven't necessarily been
- 27:00impressive. And it's another one of those
- 27:03situations where like look like we got a we can let those guys
- 27:07develop and and continue to be our guys down the road, but like
- 27:10we need to find some security now.
- 27:12I feel like Moncada brings that a little bit so.
- 27:16Have you heard much of anything about Moncada to the Yankees?
- 27:20Because I know they're looking for an established guy, 1/3.
- 27:22So yeah, yeah. Definitely heard that name to
- 27:25the Yanks quite a bit. I like I, I don't know what it
- 27:29is. I think I just have a bad taste
- 27:31in my mouth for him in general. Well, I think it's the
- 27:38underperformance. I think it's the, the health.
- 27:40I mean it, it's a myth of things, but I think it's certain
- 27:43people aren't necessarily drawn to this name as much as they
- 27:47would have been years ago for any one of the OR multiple
- 27:51reasons. And I mean, it's like it's very
- 27:54interesting. He's got he's got an 853 OPS, 8
- 28:01Jacks. He's I'm not that.
- 28:07Into it. I'm just not that into it.
- 28:09He's only played 37 games this year and it's just like, I
- 28:16don't. I think we all know what the
- 28:17back of that baseball card looks like.
- 28:19So that's why I think like the the Mets get a guy who maybe
- 28:24you, maybe you just strike with lightning in a bottle and like
- 28:28you get something good there. But at the same time, you can
- 28:31still bounce back over to your Vientos and and Brett Beatty
- 28:37solution. And what's nice is that you have
- 28:39flexibility in those names. You know, you've seen Vientos,
- 28:43you know, slide over to first base and give Pete Alonzo 1/2 a
- 28:46day off. So I think it just gives them
- 28:48some some depth in the infield. You had the Mets buying anyone
- 28:55else? Was that it?
- 28:57No, I didn't. I didn't have.
- 28:59I mean, I know the Mets are are attached to a bevy of people,
- 29:03but I didn't have much activity there.
- 29:07I did have some other National League movement though,
- 29:11specifically the East. I mean, if we want to keep in
- 29:13the East a name, a name that I think could.
- 29:16I think, I think you and I are going to say the same name, same
- 29:19place right here. I, I don't know, this is a
- 29:22little lower on the on the totem pole in terms of I agree in
- 29:27terms of. It's not sexy.
- 29:29It's not sexy. Is it a national?
- 29:33It is not a national. OK, well, there we're free to
- 29:36take it. I'm going Kyle Finnegan.
- 29:42I do have him. To the Phils.
- 29:44All right. To the Phils, because your
- 29:47court, your current solution at Closer right now is Jordan
- 29:52Romano. Yeah, who's been brutal, by the
- 29:55way? Brutal.
- 29:56He's got an ERA of seven O 8. What's with that guy's hair?
- 30:01I don't ask questions, but what I do know is that this is not
- 30:06the solution. And even with Alvarado
- 30:08situation, you have to take into account the lack of eligibility
- 30:12for the postseason. That's a huge factor for
- 30:15Philly's team that I think has every every intention of making
- 30:18the postseason this year. You, you just, you want to you
- 30:22want to find that solution now because this is the time to do
- 30:27it. And like I said, not exactly the
- 30:31sexiest of picks, but it's a guy that could.
- 30:35I like that. I mean, I he's a stud.
- 30:38Well, he's had, he's had a, a rough couple last outings and
- 30:43I'm not, I'm not going to say that that's representative of
- 30:46his entire year. But I think over the last few
- 30:48years it's been pretty impressive.
- 30:50Yeah, yeah. Well, I mean, I think he was.
- 30:53He's been on the. NL save leader last year, wasn't
- 30:55he? He was in that conversation,
- 30:57yeah. And then he was like homeless in
- 31:00terms of a job there for a minute, right?
- 31:01Because we're thinking where we were talking.
- 31:03I remember having the conversation of like, why?
- 31:05Why is there not as much activity for Kyle Finnegan?
- 31:09And I think he ended up, what was it?
- 31:10He came back on a one year deal or something.
- 31:12Something like that, I don't know.
- 31:14I think this is this is his time to to to get out of town.
- 31:21I think the Phillies go and get this guy.
- 31:22I like said, you need a solution.
- 31:25I like your thought process. I'm actually going to go a
- 31:29different direction to fill that closer role for the Phillies.
- 31:32I'm saying David Bednar. Seen his name floated around?
- 31:38Yeah, and I just, I don't know, I'm just same thing, kind of
- 31:45shooting from the hip. But I think we're on this right
- 31:47page of knowing that the Phillies need to secure the end
- 31:50of that bullpen. But for my Kyle Finnegan pick, I
- 31:54haven't gone to the to the Cubs. All right, yeah, I think it's
- 31:59been a little bit of a hodgepodge back end from the
- 32:03from the Cubs closing games down.
- 32:05So I got him going to the Cubs, but sticking with the Phillies.
- 32:10Do you have them buying anyone else?
- 32:13I'm curious if there is a name that you and I are going to land
- 32:17on that we agree on. Well, I think you your list
- 32:21entails just more names generally.
- 32:24Yeah, but we've talked about this name and I don't think it's
- 32:27a very surprising pick because a lot of people have had this.
- 32:30Cedric Mullins. Yeah, Cedric Mullins and that's
- 32:33the one. I like that.
- 32:35I like that. Pick yeah, just a veteran that I
- 32:38think can very much slide into a little bit of a platoon roll.
- 32:46And I don't know, I was just going to give you quality
- 32:49baseball anytime he's on the field, I feel like may not be an
- 32:53everyday guy, but like, I don't think they need that right now,
- 32:56but they do need, they just need more production out of center
- 33:00field. That's been the story for the
- 33:02Phillies for a few years, I think.
- 33:04At what point do we give up on them this sort of a separate
- 33:07conversation? At what point do we give up on
- 33:10the Mike Trout back to Philly conversation?
- 33:13Oh yeah, I gave up on that a little bit ago.
- 33:15Few years. I guess it's so socially
- 33:17acceptable to be holding though, holding on to that dream.
- 33:21Would have been cool but would have loved to see Bryce Harper
- 33:24and my child in the same uniform.
- 33:25I think that'd be. That would have been that would
- 33:29have been a chapter of baseball that I think we would have
- 33:31looked back on so fondly. Like with the narrative, with
- 33:34the narrative like their. Individual narratives is it?
- 33:38No, it's not. But I'm I'm just asking when
- 33:40it's So what? Like how?
- 33:42How much longer will it be socially acceptable to be
- 33:44holding on to that dream? Because I feel like that could
- 33:46have been such a cool chapter in this game, man.
- 33:49I respect the dream. You look back, I mean, it was it
- 33:52was Trout versus Harper. It was what is he doing that the
- 33:55others not and vice versa. Yeah.
- 33:58And, and we had a moment in time where I feel like it could have
- 34:03happened if the Phillies wanted to really make a splash.
- 34:07But I'm just wondering if we're if we're out of time on that if
- 34:10if, if if the sand pebbles have fallen to the bottom.
- 34:15I think they have. I think they have.
- 34:18Sad day it is. Wrapping it up for the Phillies.
- 34:23Is that Cedy Mullins? Cedy Mullins, That's all I got
- 34:26for the Phills, but I again, just two holes.
- 34:30They're in a good spot. They're leading the division,
- 34:31obviously playing good ball. It's I I don't think it needs a
- 34:35ton of help, but those are two names that I don't think are
- 34:37super expensive that can plug holes for them.
- 34:45Let's jump over to the central. You, you, Yeah, you may want to
- 34:53start Cubs. I actually I think I want to
- 34:54start Brewers here. That's good because I don't have
- 34:57any Brewers. A name you already mentioned,
- 35:00actually, you had Josh Naylor going to the Red Sox.
- 35:04I've got Josh Naylor going to the Brewers because currently.
- 35:07The never ending hole at first base.
- 35:09Oh my goodness, man. Andrew Vaughn.
- 35:12Andrew Vaughn. Who has looked OK?
- 35:15Hasn't he? As a Brewer, all I saw is it I
- 35:17saw a highlight of him hitting a Homer in his first AB.
- 35:20If 2O5 with 7 jacks is OK and on Brewer though on an on base at
- 35:262:43. I mean, does it matter like this
- 35:28is it's his 2025 campaign? No disrespect, no following any
- 35:34of those, no. It's just statistical data.
- 35:37I'm, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not necessarily taking a narrative
- 35:41here. I'm just sharing numbers.
- 35:42I hear you. As a Brewer 2 Jacks, he's
- 35:48hitting 350 / 7 games. Hey, come on.
- 35:52I, I mean, sure like it's, it, has it been a, a, a good start
- 35:58to his tenure there? Sure.
- 36:00Is this a guy you want to take into October?
- 36:05No, but I like that pick. It gives them a little attitude
- 36:09too. They need a little chip on their
- 36:11shoulder. That's what I'm saying.
- 36:12I like that pick. We've we've.
- 36:15Maybe at times disliked Josh Naylor for said chip, but in
- 36:19this situation, I think we might be a fan of it if it if it means
- 36:23giving the Brewers a little little bit of little bit of
- 36:26juice. He's the quintessential guy you
- 36:30you hate to play against but love to have on your team.
- 36:33That's what he is, and I think the Brewers need a low attitude.
- 36:37Josh Naylor on the year, hitting 291 with 11 jacks, 58 ribs.
- 36:42He's getting on base of the clip of 360 OPS, 813 OPS plus A-125.
- 36:48Good for you. So that's, that's my pick.
- 36:50Can I just, can I knock out one more central pick real quick?
- 36:54Please do. While I'm while I'm riding this
- 36:56train. Let's go.
- 37:03I think I've actually said this on here before, but my my pick
- 37:06hasn't really changed. Although I'd I want to talk, I
- 37:09want to, I want you to talk me through this.
- 37:11OK, I've still got Sandy Alcantra going to the.
- 37:14Cubs, as do I. Cubs currently sit at 20 games
- 37:19over 500. They're 59 and 39.
- 37:23But let me ask you, this is sandy enough of a splash for a
- 37:32Cubs team that is having such a dominant year?
- 37:35Because we talk all the time. I'm a huge proponent of putting
- 37:39your foot down on the throat of the rest of the division, the
- 37:42rest of the league. But you know, based on where
- 37:45you're at in the grand scheme, like the landscape of the rest
- 37:48of the league. If you have a chance to put your
- 37:51foot down on the throat of the rest of the division, the rest
- 37:53of the league, or even all of baseball, like if you're the
- 37:55Dodgers, for example, or maybe even the Tigers, I feel like you
- 38:01got to do it. And I feel like the Cubs really
- 38:04have a chance here, given the way that they've been playing
- 38:06this year, to really make a statement at the deadline.
- 38:11And I'm just wondering if this is it.
- 38:13I I don't know if this is enough.
- 38:15Well, that's why I paired it with these other moves, I think.
- 38:18I think if you get Gino Suarez, if you get a Kyle Finn again,
- 38:21and if you then followed up by getting a Sandy Alcantra, like
- 38:25you have filled every spot and I think you can kind of get by
- 38:32with one of those three names maybe not performing fully.
- 38:37But Sandy, I mean, he's got control.
- 38:40He's we know what he's capable of based on his history.
- 38:45I I think it's a little bit of a weird year.
- 38:47I don't think it's been terrible.
- 38:49I don't think it's been like as low as a Zach Gallon, but it
- 38:53hasn't been great. And that's why I have them
- 38:57saying like, this isn't our one sexy splashy move.
- 39:00I think it's paired with something else like a Gino
- 39:02Suarez. So I don't know if you have the
- 39:04Cubs doing anything else outside of Sandy, but that's my logic
- 39:09behind it. Let's go get Sandy.
- 39:11Let's also go get somebody that we know is a little more secure.
- 39:16Not me. He just hasn't had the turn
- 39:21around that I think the the Marlins were really hoping for.
- 39:24Like I said, we we, we touched on it briefly, I think maybe a
- 39:29month or two back where we're like, you've got a limited
- 39:31amount of time if you're the Marlins where you can really
- 39:34bank on him turning things around and getting that stock
- 39:37back up. Dude, he's had one, maybe two
- 39:42starts that I think would pass as al contrast.
- 39:47Very good. Yeah.
- 39:49One of one of which being against the Pirates.
- 39:53That's why. No disrespect.
- 39:55It's that's why it's interesting for me because like, and I have
- 40:02another name that I can kind of tie into this conversation.
- 40:05I'll visit down the road, but there's nothing if you're the
- 40:09Marlins, which they mismanage nearly every possible
- 40:14opportunity. But they don't have to move him
- 40:18this year. Like, if if you feel like it,
- 40:21you're not getting offers you want, you still have three more
- 40:25years to try again. You know what I mean?
- 40:28So I think that's why the Cubs make sense to me because it is a
- 40:37it is a let's push chips in the middle of the table now.
- 40:41And it's also, hey, Kyle Tucker, look what we're trying to do to
- 40:45continue building this thing up, to bring it back.
- 40:49So I think that's why Sandy checks that box.
- 40:51I think that's why the Cubs are one of the few teams that will
- 40:54likely be able to answer the asking price that the Marlins
- 40:59will have for him. I don't know what their farm
- 41:01looks like, but it's just it to me, it seems like the Cubs don't
- 41:06really have any other choice but to be strong buyers.
- 41:11And that's why I see it happening.
- 41:14And I think I don't know who knows.
- 41:16And and even if he doesn't become the ace Sandy Alcantra,
- 41:19at least there's some there's some rotational depth.
- 41:23And again, you're checking that box of showing Kyle Tucker.
- 41:26Hey, we're also in on the future.
- 41:27It's not just this year. So, yeah, and one to clarify my
- 41:33comment from earlier about he's, he's had one, maybe two stars
- 41:36that have passed as like very good.
- 41:38That's, that's only going back to the beginning of June.
- 41:41So I'm really just looking over like the last month and a half,
- 41:44like really, really zeroing in on that, that time frame I was
- 41:47talking about where we were hoping for a turn around as we
- 41:50approach the deadline over the course of the season, though
- 41:53obviously not great. But if you really look at the
- 41:56last month, month and a half to where, like I said, I think the
- 41:59Marlins were hoping to bump up that value as high as they
- 42:03possibly could until it became time to ship them out.
- 42:07You just haven't you haven't gotten much from them.
- 42:09So I don't know it. I'll be curious to see.
- 42:11I'm with you though. I don't.
- 42:12I don't think you have to do it, and I think they'd be wise not
- 42:16to. But they're they mismanage
- 42:18everything. They right do the opposite of
- 42:21what everyone thinks. Yeah, which is what, you know, I
- 42:23was like the Marlins very could very, very well could ship him
- 42:27out. So I at least want to have a
- 42:29team attached to him, you know, if we're going predictions.
- 42:31But I think if you're looking at a smart business move or a smart
- 42:35move if you're the Marlins, it would be to not.
- 42:38Yeah, but that's just me. I'm with you.
- 42:40I'm with you. You got anything else going on
- 42:43in the NL Central or you want to slide to the AL Central?
- 42:46Because I feel like there's a lot to talk about.
- 42:49There is. We I'm just now realizing I
- 42:53forgot to slide in one National League West pick.
- 42:58Then I think we can we can jump over to the AL.
- 43:03Oh yeah, I think we probably have the same one.
- 43:06I have a lot more NL picks actually.
- 43:08So maybe that's good that we don't move on yet.
- 43:12I've got. Wow, I have a lot more NL than
- 43:16AL. So you may have to you you can
- 43:18lead the way in the American League, but I've got Johann
- 43:22Duran being acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers because when you
- 43:29look we're we're we talk all the time this time of year about is
- 43:32this is your solution. If you are a contending team, is
- 43:36your solution at this position or position group viable?
- 43:44I don't know if the back end of the rotation as as many options
- 43:50as they have. I don't know if they if they
- 43:52have a guy. You saying bullpen?
- 43:55Yeah, you said rotation. So I'm just excuse.
- 43:58Me, bullpen, Tanner Scott, Kirby, Yates.
- 44:02Not the combo they're looking for right now.
- 44:05Maybe. Maybe shift them to some higher
- 44:07leverage situations and then allow Duran to come in and be
- 44:10the guy that locks it down for you.
- 44:12Yeah, understandable. Lot of control left.
- 44:16They obviously have pieces to move, so I don't think that's a
- 44:19crazy pick. Top five farm system if I'm not
- 44:22mistaken. Yeah, and like very, very much
- 44:26like big league ready guys, names that can move, you know,
- 44:30and Andy Paw has, I could very much see leading the charge in
- 44:34in a move at some point. I have the Dodgers focusing more
- 44:38on their rotation and less on their bullpen.
- 44:42So I have the Dodgers buying 2 rotation names.
- 44:48One sexy 1 not so sexy 2. I say Dodgers, you say Kikuchi
- 44:57to the Dodgers. Wow, you like that?
- 45:00Well done. Yeah, well done.
- 45:03Thanks. Yeah dude, just an inning eater.
- 45:14Just but a typical name that is probably, you know, middle of
- 45:20the road and it's kind of solid elsewhere.
- 45:21But then all of a sudden you just see him have a ridiculous
- 45:25run down the stretch for the Dodgers.
- 45:26That's just I, I, they always find somebody like that.
- 45:31So I have him staying in town, but just walking across the
- 45:34street and then my other name that the Dodgers are going to
- 45:38get is a little more sexy. And going back to the point I
- 45:41made earlier of having a lot of names that are big league ready,
- 45:47ready to roll. Here's a team that needs some
- 45:51big league ready names in the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 45:56I've Mitch Keller going to the LA Dodgers because they can
- 46:02afford it. They can afford to make that
- 46:04move. And I think they're similar
- 46:08where like maybe the Pirates don't answer calls for too many
- 46:13teams and and are willing to offer Mitch Keller up to too
- 46:18many teams, but the Dodgers just have like a lot of big league
- 46:21ready to roll guys. So I see that happening.
- 46:28And in a weird way, I almost wonder if if if a phone call
- 46:32that features the Pirates and the Dodgers, if the Pirates
- 46:36almost are in a position of leverage.
- 46:39Because I think with that name, yes, yeah.
- 46:41Because like we talked about there, you're talking about a
- 46:44daughter scene that has a top five farm system where the
- 46:47pirates are going. We may, we may mismanage guys
- 46:52from time to time or maybe more so often than not, but we have
- 46:58eyes and we can see how deep you're rolling right now.
- 47:02So we're not we're, we're hanging up the phone.
- 47:05If it's less than fill in the blank and you know, the Dodgers
- 47:08may have to pony up because I don't think if you're any other
- 47:12team in baseball right now, you're not, I don't think you're
- 47:14just going to roll over to the Dodgers.
- 47:17You know, ideally, if you're any team in baseball, you wouldn't
- 47:20want to roll over generally. But I, I think, you know, as
- 47:24the, as the Dodgers continue to build this dynasty that they've
- 47:27got working, I, I don't think anybody that has a competitive
- 47:30fiber in their body. If you're in an ownership
- 47:33position or a decision making position with another team
- 47:37around the league, if you're going to want to just, you know,
- 47:40you know, kiss the ring and, and roll over when it comes to
- 47:43negotiating with the Dodgers. So I think the Dodgers have a
- 47:45little bit of a target on their back when it comes to these
- 47:48discussions. Be interesting to see how it.
- 47:50Plays with you, too, the deadline.
- 47:51I Yeah, there's very much, like I said, I think there's teams
- 47:54that are like when you're saying, willing to roll over,
- 47:58it's like that you got to meet this asking price.
- 48:01I know what you have. I know what you're capable of
- 48:03giving. And these are what I what I need
- 48:05and what I want from you. And I think the Pirates very
- 48:08much have that leverage in the Miss Keller conversation.
- 48:10So. And the Dodgers are, I think,
- 48:14more capable of meeting that asking price than any other team
- 48:17in baseball. You got any more Dodgers?
- 48:21I got my last NL. Let's hear it.
- 48:24And I'll pick and I'm going to, I'm going to throw it in there.
- 48:28But you're going to have to talk about it more than I am.
- 48:32Jared Duran to the Padres. Oh.
- 48:34Oh, I thought we're still talking Dodgers.
- 48:35I was like, don't say that. Yeah, I've.
- 48:38I've heard a lot of Jared Duran to the Padres and I was actually
- 48:41this was a name I wanted to talk through with you because I know
- 48:44I'd mentioned probably A to I guess at this point two to three
- 48:48weeks ago where I was like, you know, I feel like they they end
- 48:51up doing this because they don't now that Duran's I mean, going
- 48:54back to the start of this month, since July 1st Jan, Duran's
- 49:00hitting three O 411 ribbies, seven runs scored.
- 49:05He is at a place now, you know, talking about that turn around
- 49:10time leading up to the deadline. I think the Red Sox were
- 49:13hopeful, assuming that the conversations were being had
- 49:16internally about is this a guy we want to move out?
- 49:18They were probably hopeful that he would turn things around
- 49:20because he had, he had a less than impressive first half when
- 49:26you compare it to last year, which I know is a tough standard
- 49:28because, I mean, he was a great year last year, yeah, an insane
- 49:31year last year. But still comparatively, you
- 49:34know, all things considered, even for his Sanders, I don't
- 49:37think was having the greatest start to the year.
- 49:40So he was able to turn things around.
- 49:42However, it coincides with the fact that the Red Sox, as I
- 49:47mentioned, went on a little bit of a heater.
- 49:50You know, 10 game win streak heading into the break.
- 49:52You know, you lose the first two out of the break.
- 49:54Coming out of the other side of the break to the Cubs, it looks
- 49:57like they're going to. Looks like they're going to take
- 49:59the last game this. Looks like they're going to seal
- 50:00the deal. Salvage, salvage a win here so
- 50:04you're not getting swept because that would have been a real
- 50:07vibes killer again, especially when you stack it up against
- 50:10that 10 game win streak going into the break.
- 50:12So I'm in a I'm in a weird spot with this Jaron Duran thing
- 50:15because I'm like. I get that, you know.
- 50:19Does this, how much of an impact does this have on the clubhouse?
- 50:23How much of an impact does this have on the remainder of the
- 50:25season? I know you can't.
- 50:26You have to think of, you have to think of macro to some degree
- 50:30with these moves, especially with the with the control that
- 50:34he has left. Here's a vibe killer though for
- 50:38sure as a vibe killer. So I'm, I'm just, I'm wondering,
- 50:41did the Red Sox say no, we have to stick with the plan.
- 50:45Our plan was to ship out an. Outfielder, that's what I was
- 50:49going to ask you because like how much of this organization
- 50:52have you seen just kind of like stick to the plan no matter what
- 50:58the performance is saying do. It's it's tough because you you
- 51:02have to give away, you have to ship out an outfitter.
- 51:04There's we have too many out dealers.
- 51:07And personally I've really, I've really come around Jay and
- 51:12Duran. I yeah, I'm out on, I'm out on,
- 51:15I'm out on a break. Not nothing personal.
- 51:18I like William Brayu, but I'd rather hang on to Jay and Duran
- 51:22because of the just the tools that he brings to the.
- 51:26Table him and Jackson Merrill in the same line up is insane.
- 51:29This. I don't want to talk about that.
- 51:32Good night. That's exciting.
- 51:34Padres can have William Bray if that's if they want an, if they
- 51:37want an outfielder from the Red Sox, they can take William Bray.
- 51:39But I need, I need Jaron Duran. I think I've decided.
- 51:43I think I want to understand. Put that's fair.
- 51:46That's fair. All right.
- 51:47Well, that rounds out my my NLU, at least for the buyer side of
- 51:55things. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 52:01And if I miss anybody, I'll, I'll be sure to come back.
- 52:03But. Gino Suarez with another tater,
- 52:07that's three and two games, by the way.
- 52:10Price just goes up and up. Everyone he hits, oh, where do
- 52:16we go? Where do we go?
- 52:20Who? Q Let's talk.
- 52:25And then a team that we were we were sort of, you know, talking
- 52:28about before we hopped on. Let's let's talk with the
- 52:30Guardians because you said that you would be shocked if Emmanuel
- 52:35Claus has moved. I would be.
- 52:39So you don't even have you have him going nowhere, you have him
- 52:42staying put. Yeah, I do.
- 52:45I do. I don't really have any guardian
- 52:47stuff of note at all. Interesting.
- 52:49OK, yeah, because I I saw the report that said they're ready
- 52:53to listen to offers for all but four guys.
- 52:56That includes J Ram, Stephen Kwan, Klaus A and Kate Smith.
- 53:02Yeah, yeah, I'm with that. I think those are the names you
- 53:08got to hold onto. And no disrespect, I just
- 53:12there's not really other names that I think are worthy of put
- 53:15on this list for today's episode.
- 53:17I think may have some impacts elsewhere at some point.
- 53:20But like, I don't know if one of those four names gets moved,
- 53:28then maybe. But like, I I don't know.
- 53:32Jay Rams, obviously your future. I love what Stephen Kwan brings
- 53:36to the game in class AI. Don't I just, it's weird to me
- 53:43for them to have the success they did last year and and get
- 53:49rid of any of those names and think that it's like it's time
- 53:52to completely burn it down. I don't think so.
- 53:55I think it's just, hey, you know, we kind of ran into a buzz
- 53:58saw with the Tigers this year and we don't need to fully
- 54:02unpack everything. Just run it back next year, see
- 54:05if we can do it a little different.
- 54:08No need to overreact, just retool and.
- 54:12And readjust, yeah, that's where I'm at with them.
- 54:14So I don't, I don't have any guardians on here.
- 54:16Buy or sell? Interesting.
- 54:19All right, How about out West? I think we've mentioned the
- 54:24Mariners. You got anybody?
- 54:26Astros, Mariners. I got, I got some good Astros,
- 54:30Mariners stuff. Actually, you mentioned a name
- 54:35earlier in Ryan O'hearn. I have him going to the Mariners
- 54:41like that. It's been a little weird at
- 54:43first base I I think I saw Rowdy Tilez getting a BS.
- 54:48Yeah, yesterday I had to do a double take.
- 54:50I was like I I completely forgot that this.
- 54:52Was the reality. Yeah.
- 54:55I it's just, it's just a strange spot.
- 54:57I I think that makes a lot of sense.
- 55:01I don't have thems doing much else, but I we know how they
- 55:06kind of operate. It's just they don't, they don't
- 55:08really get too sexy with it. Can I throw out a name for the
- 55:11Mariners? Are you getting sexy with it?
- 55:13Depends. All right, hit me.
- 55:17How do we feel about Marcelo Zuna?
- 55:20To the I have that name, but I don't have them going there.
- 55:25Like I hey, I said this right before we hopped on.
- 55:27I was I it had been a minute since I checked in on the the
- 55:31current state of the Seattle Mariners offense.
- 55:35We talked about this. We had been talking about this
- 55:39for a while. Will your Bray you by the way, 2
- 55:42jacks on the day. So you want to talk about the
- 55:46you want to talk about the the price, the price going up.
- 55:49What let's let's keep this rolling.
- 55:52Get a haul back for a Bray you and and we'll keep the vibes
- 55:56rolling. But the Seattle Mariners
- 56:00offense, dude, ninth most runs scored in all of baseball.
- 56:07They've got the six most homers in all of baseball.
- 56:10And I think adding. That's Mr. Mr. Raleigh, but.
- 56:15I mean, sure, but it like we, we talked about, we're at the point
- 56:19of the year where certain certain statistical categories I
- 56:23think are, are you have to be more reflective of a team effort
- 56:29than just to say like it's not we're not we're not in May
- 56:32anymore where that could be more impactful.
- 56:34And I, yes, I know Cal Raleigh's having a career, but still, the
- 56:38fact they've scored the 9th 9th most runs is speaking to their
- 56:41production. At the very least, even if you,
- 56:43even if you take Raleigh out of the equation, you have to you
- 56:45still have to be scoring runs to some degree to be in the top 10.
- 56:49But if you had a certified bopper like Marcelo Ozuna, that
- 56:55could help. I don't want to say eliminate
- 57:00grumblings of baseball fans like you and I who are we'll just
- 57:08stay down on the Mariners. Like how, how could you let what
- 57:12happened in the American League West over the last month
- 57:14happened to me? Making a move like that could
- 57:20help at the very least, a piece of your fan base and show that
- 57:26you're not just going to the the classic When I I hate when teams
- 57:30do this. Something, something has
- 57:33happened where you've who knows, maybe you've drastically
- 57:37underperformed or you've let a division lead slip away and then
- 57:41the only thing you get out of the front office is we're happy
- 57:46with the team that we have. I don't for the sake of the
- 57:49Mariners, I don't want that to be the case this year.
- 57:53I don't want you to just say, well, we let the division out of
- 57:57our out of our grip, but we really like the team that we
- 58:00have here. You can't ride, you can't ride
- 58:03the Cal Raleigh train the entire season.
- 58:05It's very true. That's going to be enough.
- 58:07Is it like I said, is he is he having an MVP caliber year?
- 58:10Yes, but you're going to need to add more supplement the offense
- 58:14that, like I said, is having a good having a good run right
- 58:18now. But you don't want to just rest
- 58:19on on those laurels and think that that's that's going to get
- 58:23it. Done.
- 58:24How dare they? Well, the team they're playing
- 58:27right now, the team they're chasing, the division, the
- 58:31Houston Astros, I think they're going in and I think they're
- 58:37going to make one big bomber of a move.
- 58:40And I think they take this division because, again, I just
- 58:46don't have a ton of faith in the Mariners and they've never shown
- 58:49us that they can come back and and you know what I mean?
- 58:53Well, let's just, let's call like it is, they're taking the
- 58:55division even without whatever move that you're about to share,
- 58:58because I know I, I'm with you, I don't have, I don't have that
- 59:03much faith in the Mariners that I think they can, one, close the
- 59:05gap and two, hold the hold the lead.
- 59:08I think the I think the Astros get real sexy and arguably the
- 59:12best trade at the deadline. I think they pull all the
- 59:17strings. I think they go get Joe Ryan and
- 59:19Byron Buxton from the Twins. Wow.
- 59:22Yeah, I think they get both of them.
- 59:25Are we, are we hearing rumours of a package deal like that
- 59:28though? I think the Twins are going to
- 59:31sell. I think Joe Ryan is having a
- 59:33spectacular year. I've heard Joe Ryan rumours to
- 59:37the Astros, I've heard Byron Buxton rumours to the Astros.
- 59:40I haven't heard anything of them being packaged together, but
- 59:43they need both. They need both.
- 59:46The Astros need some some consistency in in the outfield.
- 59:52And I know you look at Byron Bucks and you're like, well,
- 59:54it's far from consistent, but the dudes having a really good
- 59:57year an All Star. I, I I think it makes sense.
- 1:00:03I think it does. But aren't they like the bottom
- 1:00:05of the list when it comes to their their farm?
- 1:00:07Like do they have the capital for this?
- 1:00:09I don't know. We'll see.
- 1:00:12We'll see. But they need the rotation help
- 1:00:15because it's it's a lot of Framber and and Hunter Brown and
- 1:00:19then it's kind of a big gap before some of those other names
- 1:00:23have shown up in in done what the Astros rotation has done in
- 1:00:29the past. And I think every team needs to
- 1:00:32look at the rotation and say we need 3 bonafide starters minimum
- 1:00:38to make a run and they need to go all in.
- 1:00:41I don't know what that looks like.
- 1:00:44I don't know who they move on from.
- 1:00:49I mean that I have them go does. That mean Cam Smith is out of
- 1:00:51the picture. I think Cam Smith might have to
- 1:00:55be involved in that. I don't know.
- 1:00:56We'll see. That's what I'm saying like you
- 1:00:58think. But I mean, I think he's had a
- 1:01:02good year, but like him and Chaz McCormick and, you know,
- 1:01:05whatever else they've been doing in the outfield just isn't
- 1:01:07getting it done. Boy, what's a heck of a what?
- 1:01:15Do you think of that it it's a gut punch where I where you look
- 1:01:20at it and you're like, man, the Astros are here.
- 1:01:22They come again. Yeah, they, I mean, they're, you
- 1:01:24know, dropping the hammer with a move like that.
- 1:01:26And, and I'm sick of, I've said it before, I'll say it again,
- 1:01:31I'm sick of the Astros just continually being there like,
- 1:01:36yeah, either I don't know, man, like hand over the reins or, or,
- 1:01:43or or something. But it's just every year, OK, is
- 1:01:47this the year? And this has been the narrative
- 1:01:49for I don't know how long, but it's is this going to be the
- 1:01:54year where we finally see the the the fall off for the Astros?
- 1:02:00That's what we thought. They lose a guy here, they ship
- 1:02:03a guy out there. Then the summer comes and
- 1:02:06they're have a a nice little lead on the division.
- 1:02:10Every time. Yeah, gets old.
- 1:02:14But yeah, I mean, I, I like those names.
- 1:02:16Moving on from the Mets or excuse me, from the from the
- 1:02:19Twins and another name you mentioned earlier just to kind
- 1:02:24of wrap up the Twins, but I wanted to bring it back a
- 1:02:27different direction. Johann Duran, I think we'll be a
- 1:02:30Yankee. I think that he's got some
- 1:02:36control. He's still in arbitration, I
- 1:02:37believe. I just looked it up.
- 1:02:41That's your big Luke Weaver guy. Not as of late, man, it's been,
- 1:02:45it's been looking rough. Devin Williams not being what
- 1:02:50they thought he would be. He's been closing up games and
- 1:02:53it's been OK, but it hasn't been like fully confident in that
- 1:02:58rotation or, excuse me, in that bullpen where we can say, all
- 1:03:02right, lock down, we're going to win this game because he's in
- 1:03:06just doesn't feel that way. And I don't know what it is
- 1:03:09about his attitude. It drives me nuts.
- 1:03:11But I talked earlier about the Yankees giving up their
- 1:03:15prospects for control for for guys that they believe in that
- 1:03:18have control. Yuan Duran still has two more
- 1:03:22years of arbitration after this. So I think that kind of allows
- 1:03:28them to move on from Devin Williams come this offseason
- 1:03:31because there's no reason you've seen anything to bring him back.
- 1:03:36And Luke Weaver, they've said it before, like they like using
- 1:03:39Luke Weaver as the firefighter man.
- 1:03:41Just like whenever there's a fire, we want to bring him in
- 1:03:44and he's capable of doing multiple innings.
- 1:03:47They like seeing him in the sixth, they like seeing him in
- 1:03:49the 7th, the 8th. Like they like using him that
- 1:03:51way and I think that's a really good piece to have, especially
- 1:03:55in the postseason. But you still need the
- 1:03:57confidence in a closer and Duran's looked pretty good.
- 1:04:01So that gives you 3 options to just go with whatever the hot
- 1:04:05hand is during the postseason. When there is a fire, that is
- 1:04:10when you typically need the firefighter.
- 1:04:13Most of the time, most. Of the time, every of the time.
- 1:04:19Every single moment of those times, I've got the Yankees
- 1:04:25doing another move you did, and we can move on.
- 1:04:29You did extra credit. I I, I mean I have to double
- 1:04:32check but I think I'm coming up on or at the the the near end of
- 1:04:37my list. So I got some, I got a lot of
- 1:04:39names, so I'll spitball. With you as we go.
- 1:04:43But I, these were these were the moves that I, I was feeling good
- 1:04:46about. So let's let's keep it rolling
- 1:04:49with what you've got left in the AL.
- 1:04:51Well, I've got the Yanks doing one more move.
- 1:04:55I've talked about control. I've talked about that's who
- 1:04:58they're going to give up prospects for.
- 1:05:01I liked Gino Suarez. I think there's a lot of
- 1:05:04conversation there. But like, it goes against what
- 1:05:06they've tried to get away from this year.
- 1:05:09And it's not great at third base, lot of strikeout, but
- 1:05:14brings pop. I think they've tried to move on
- 1:05:17from that, hopefully. So where I'm looking the other
- 1:05:21way is I'm looking at the Rockies and I'm looking at a
- 1:05:25package deal with Ryan McMahon and Jake Bird.
- 1:05:33Not a super sexy pick. And this is to who?
- 1:05:37To the Yanks, I think with the control of Ryan McMahon, very
- 1:05:43good defense, very much above average defense, Jake Bird
- 1:05:49quietly solid over the last couple years.
- 1:05:52They need bullpen help desperately and they're
- 1:05:57obviously not going to go without plugging the third base
- 1:06:05hole this trade deadline. So I think Ryan McMahon gets it
- 1:06:09done. I do think Spencer Jones is
- 1:06:12probably going to be in a rocky uniform in order to get that
- 1:06:17done because there is a lot of control with Ryan McMahon.
- 1:06:20And I don't know, that lefty swing in Yankee Stadium just
- 1:06:23kind of makes sense. So I'm sure they do some type of
- 1:06:29rotational help. Maybe it is a Zach Allen like
- 1:06:32you said, but I don't really know.
- 1:06:36I don't know if they go super much more splashy than that.
- 1:06:39I think, I think Johann Duran is the one that like kind of leads
- 1:06:42the charge for the Yankees deadline.
- 1:06:46Speaking of the Rockies, I've got them going after Juan Soto,
- 1:06:55really making really willing to eat the entire contract, willing
- 1:06:59to eat the the entire contract and then some.
- 1:07:02They're actually going to pay him a bonus.
- 1:07:04Really looking to make a splash in this league and and really
- 1:07:07take take over baseball by storm.
- 1:07:10Yeah, and they really know what they're doing when it comes to
- 1:07:12their front office, so I, I like that.
- 1:07:14They really know about locking down long term guys that are
- 1:07:19really going to be a centerpiece for their future.
- 1:07:22That's right. And when they say they're going
- 1:07:24to keep a guy around long term, they do it.
- 1:07:27They sure do. And what better guy to do it
- 1:07:30with than the Juan Soto? Juan Soto, you are a Colorado
- 1:07:34Rocky. There it is.
- 1:07:36It's done. Put it in Sharpie, keep it in
- 1:07:41the AL East if you want to keep spitballing here.
- 1:07:47Their division leader. They are going to have to prove
- 1:07:52that they are legit. So the Blue Jays are going to
- 1:07:54buy. You mentioned one name already,
- 1:07:59but let's talk about a name we haven't mentioned yet.
- 1:08:02How about Seth Lugo from the Royals bouncing over to the Blue
- 1:08:08Jays, really just giving them a very legitimate, strong
- 1:08:13rotation. And then the name that you have
- 1:08:18mentioned, who I think can very much slide in and just
- 1:08:22immediately fit the vibes is Marcela Zuna.
- 1:08:26Oh I really like that pic. Yeah, I'm pretty confident with
- 1:08:30that. It's not that I it's not that I
- 1:08:32don't like your Seth Lugo pick, but it's set when, when, when in
- 1:08:36the conversation. I don't know when you're talking
- 1:08:39Seth Lugo and Marcel. Yeah, that that's obviously a
- 1:08:41sexy pic. Yeah, but I think they I think
- 1:08:46their bullpen looks to be in pretty good shape, especially on
- 1:08:49the back end rotation. You know, still some question
- 1:08:54marks there, but I think they've been better this year than in
- 1:08:56the past. But I don't know something
- 1:08:58about, you know, solidifying that.
- 1:09:01And then Marcelo Zuna just feels like a, I don't know why that
- 1:09:06seems so fitting to me, but it really, really does.
- 1:09:11My my brain is struggling a little bit today.
- 1:09:14Am I? Am I forgetting something?
- 1:09:17Do they just have a revolving door at the DH spot?
- 1:09:19Kinda, kinda, yeah. They've been kind of rotating
- 1:09:25that a little bit. I looked up there.
- 1:09:32Springer, Alejandro Kirk. See what I mean?
- 1:09:36And that's like, even. Yeah, it.
- 1:09:38Feels like Alejandro Kirk's mainly just like, hey, let's so
- 1:09:41we can get Danny Jansen some some ABS.
- 1:09:47But yeah, I mean the the the flexibility of some of these
- 1:09:54other names. No, not Danny Jansen.
- 1:09:56He's with the Rays. Not Danny Jansen, Who does.
- 1:09:59Who was I thinking of? Heineman.
- 1:10:00Heineman. Heineman, yeah, used to be a a
- 1:10:05Blue Jay. Red Sox legend Danny.
- 1:10:06Jansen yeah, but I mean like Hyneman coming into the mix, you
- 1:10:09know, hitting looks good, but Kirk is just an excellent
- 1:10:14defender. So and then the barger kid at
- 1:10:18third base, like they've had like some delightful surprise.
- 1:10:21But Santander, I, I don't know if you have time to, to allow
- 1:10:27this to get figured out, Man, I, I don't know, I, it just feels
- 1:10:32to me that Marcel Ozuna comes in immediately with right-handed
- 1:10:36pop and like, I, I mean, what the order looks like.
- 1:10:42But if you had, you know, Vlad and then Barger and then as a
- 1:10:46Zuna like 2-3, four or three, 4-5.
- 1:10:51Could Marcel Ozuna to the Jays be the twenty 20s version of
- 1:10:55Edwin and Car and Carnacion? I think that checks out in.
- 1:11:00Terms of vibes. I think that checks out.
- 1:11:03Yeah, that's very much good. A good pull.
- 1:11:09Throw up the parrot. We'll see.
- 1:11:12We'll see. I've got a few minutes left.
- 1:11:15You got a, you got, You got a couple that you went around out
- 1:11:18with, Yes. Not to cut off your research
- 1:11:23because I know. You.
- 1:11:24I'm done. I mean this, this, these, the
- 1:11:26last names finish it out. So we're good, not, no need to
- 1:11:31spend a ton of time on it. But similar to the Sandy
- 1:11:34Alcantara Alcantra, whatever conversation of hey, you don't
- 1:11:39have to. You don't have to move them.
- 1:11:41I think Louise Roberts stays with the White Sox just for how
- 1:11:44bad it's been this year, there's no real sense of urgency to move
- 1:11:49him right now. Might as well sell high.
- 1:11:51And he is not at a moment of selling high right now.
- 1:11:55So I think the White Sox sit on him.
- 1:11:57I think the lasting take away with the Louise Robert Market
- 1:12:02was when he came out himself and it was like, yeah, that this is
- 1:12:06not really the the time, the year, the season for me right
- 1:12:10now. And I think nothing's really
- 1:12:13changed. So why, if you're the White Sox,
- 1:12:15why would you try to force the issue?
- 1:12:16Yeah, exactly. And then some of my favorite
- 1:12:21picks, we we kind of briefly talked about them earlier in the
- 1:12:26episode, but I have my favorite pick for last.
- 1:12:30The first move that the Detroit Tigers make is Zac Eflin.
- 1:12:35I think they go and get him from the O's ace.
- 1:12:38Zac Eflin. Yeah, the the top tier saviour
- 1:12:43of Baltimore. Upper echelon front and star Zac
- 1:12:48Eflin from the O's. Yeah, I think they get some
- 1:12:51innings out of him, but my favorite pick?
- 1:12:55For last, I have all your picks. Of all my picks.
- 1:12:59I like this, what do you got? The Detroit Tigers are going to
- 1:13:02go get a Cy Young candidate in Jacob degrom.
- 1:13:07The Tigers. Yeah, buddy.
- 1:13:11Imagine Scooble 1. And healthy degrom.
- 1:13:16Jacob degrom coming in Game 2. Talk me through this, what I
- 1:13:21mean? What sparked this?
- 1:13:23You sparked it when you started talking about their farm, what
- 1:13:26how deep they are and how much they're in a position to to push
- 1:13:30the chips in. And I think like.
- 1:13:33Is this is this the pick right before we hopped on, you were
- 1:13:36congratulating yourself and you're like, that's a great
- 1:13:39pick, Nate. Way to think of that.
- 1:13:41This is the OK this. Is the one.
- 1:13:43This is why I saved it for last. I like it.
- 1:13:47I, I don't, I'm not saying I disagree with your Gino pick.
- 1:13:51I I could see them doing both, but again, with Gino being a
- 1:13:53free agent, like that's just a rental.
- 1:13:56I I think there is some, I think it Stamps future.
- 1:14:05I think it's Stamps were legit. I think it's it says to the
- 1:14:09league and to the AL Central, this isn't a fluke.
- 1:14:13We're having a great year, but this is our division for the
- 1:14:16foreseeable future. And I think this kind of move
- 1:14:21puts that puts that in line. I don't know if I hear you.
- 1:14:28Look at what my own you realize degrom is now I think third in
- 1:14:34in odds to win the Syon. Dude, he's put up a three war,
- 1:14:37three war season right now. I'm not.
- 1:14:39No, no. Look, I'm not doubting what he's
- 1:14:41done, but I don't. My only rebuttal would be that
- 1:14:44your your point about this stamping future at 37.
- 1:14:49I don't know. But I think it I'm not saying
- 1:14:52like he is the answer moving. I'm, I'm not saying like, oh,
- 1:14:55you look at the Tigers going on a dynasty run with degrom in
- 1:14:59that conversation. I think it it's what the move
- 1:15:02says, saying that like we are winning now we have the farm to
- 1:15:08move and we're willing to make these types of moves at the
- 1:15:14deadline. I think that's what it does and
- 1:15:17I think it turns around what they what they did last year,
- 1:15:22you know, and it's crazy to look at at a calendar year and say
- 1:15:27that right around this time they shipped out Jack Flaherty and
- 1:15:36and it's like snuck into the post season and like kind of did
- 1:15:39a little bit of a scare and maybe they regretted making that
- 1:15:44move. I think this death dying says
- 1:15:46it's going to happen a little bit differently.
- 1:15:48I think this deadlines going to say now we're getting after it.
- 1:15:52And I like that 1-2 punch. I mean, who wouldn't?
- 1:15:56Who wouldn't? Wow, a real.
- 1:16:01Phone might end it, huh? Real bomb to drop there at the
- 1:16:04end. Where to, hey, where to round it
- 1:16:07out for us. That's that's saucy.
- 1:16:09That's real saucy. Those are all my names.
- 1:16:13Perfect. Well, there you have it, the the
- 1:16:17trade deadline predictions on behalf of the three O take look.
- 1:16:22I'm looking forward to seeing when the when the wheels start
- 1:16:25moving, when the wheels start turning for the league, when we
- 1:16:28start get seeing some of these notifications pop up.
- 1:16:31It's a fun time of year. Yeah, it is.
- 1:16:34I think there's going to start. I think there's going to be a
- 1:16:36little something, something this week, Be great.
- 1:16:39If it happened before Wednesday's episode, that'd be
- 1:16:41nice that. 'D be excellent.
- 1:16:43Yeah. But if not, we'll still see you
- 1:16:45guys Wednesday. Bring in episode 554 to you
- 1:16:53coming Wednesday. But other than that, that's all
- 1:16:56I've got. You got anything else before we
- 1:16:57get out of here? Nope, Nope, that's all I got.
- 1:17:00I'm going to make some fajitas. Little early din din.

- 1:18:26It's. Going to be, it's not going to
- 1:18:27be a 10 minute vlog. It's going to be a little little
- 1:18:29lengthier because we did a lot and in a 4/4 and 1/2 day span.
- 1:18:34So yeah, keep an eye out for that.
