- 0:17Speaker 1: Never dog bates, never dog bans.
- 0:19Speaker 2: It's awesome to be here.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Oh, guys have a great outlook, really tough group, tough
- 0:25Speaker 1: minded group. It's just another opportunity to get better and
- 0:28Speaker 1: we just take one day at a time, one practice
- 0:31Speaker 1: at a time, one rep at a time.
- 0:35Speaker 3: That's defending coordinator Ryan Nielsen, and like many of you,
- 0:38Speaker 3: he's excited to have football back in his life. Here's
- 0:40Speaker 3: a live look at Jaguars' training camp taking place right
- 0:43Speaker 3: now outside the Miller Electric Center. We're going to give
- 0:46Speaker 3: you a live look throughout the day as we talk
- 0:48Speaker 3: about what's been going down this week so far in
- 0:50Speaker 3: training camp. As we're midway through week three, Welcome in
- 0:53Speaker 3: to jag Dam this morning. I'm kind Nannie Stevens, Brian Sexton,
- 0:56Speaker 3: and John Osier are with me as we get ready
- 0:58Speaker 3: just a couple of days away from our preseason games.
- 1:00Speaker 3: We're getting very excited for that. Let's start off with
- 1:03Speaker 3: our big things today. Big thing number one is the
- 1:05Speaker 3: injury bug. Last week, we saw some key injuries on
- 1:08Speaker 3: this team and a lot of injuries to different position
- 1:11Speaker 3: groups as well. Brian, we saw a couple of injuries
- 1:13Speaker 3: to the offensive line and elsewhere on the team on defense,
- 1:17Speaker 3: anything concerning you right now.
- 1:18Speaker 4: You know this might seem esoteric, but yeah, Cooper Hodgers, right,
- 1:21Speaker 4: I mean they need young interior players on that offensive line.
- 1:26Speaker 2: You've got age with.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Mitch Morse and with Brandon Sheriff, and he's a guy
- 1:30Speaker 4: for whom there are high expectations. You know, you had
- 1:33Speaker 4: the knee that cost him all of last season, and
- 1:35Speaker 4: now the back has slowed him down in camp. I
- 1:37Speaker 4: want to see Cooper Hodgs because at some point, just
- 1:39Speaker 4: looking at the law of averages, John, they're gonna need
- 1:42Speaker 4: a young interior offensive lineman out there on the field.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Yeah, you would like that he's come back a little
- 1:48Speaker 5: bit working individual. You would like that not to be
- 1:50Speaker 5: long term so that he can develop this year. I
- 1:53Speaker 5: guess the thing with injuries, for me, I'm glad for
- 1:56Speaker 5: the jaguars sake that they're not involving Mitch Morse, Brand
- 2:00Speaker 5: and Shaff some of the older guys. You don't want
- 2:02Speaker 5: to see them get hurt and sort of caught in
- 2:04Speaker 5: that cycle. I guess the one I'm worried most about
- 2:07Speaker 5: is Dey. I mean, it's Andrew Winderd as silly as
- 2:10Speaker 5: it would have seen. Maybe three years ago when special
- 2:13Speaker 5: teams guy was sort of his role. He matters on
- 2:17Speaker 5: defense as a role player, as a guy who's a
- 2:20Speaker 5: leader out there, and he really matters on special teams.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I don't want my guy do yet very long. He's
- 2:26Speaker 2: the best.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Special teams player on this team. And when you don't
- 2:28Speaker 4: have that guy, it hurts.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Certainly does Captain last year as well, plays a big
- 2:32Speaker 3: role on the defense. We'll go to big thing number
- 2:34Speaker 3: two today. That's gonna be game speed. We're talking about
- 2:36Speaker 3: the Chiefs coming to town on Saturday. We'll get more
- 2:38Speaker 3: into that tomorrow, but that's the first preseason game.
- 2:41Speaker 6: Getting up to game speed.
- 2:43Speaker 3: But we've been seeing them amp up their practicing a
- 2:46Speaker 3: little bit, John as they try to get ready for
- 2:48Speaker 3: that first preseason game. But can you ever really get
- 2:50Speaker 3: up to speed until you finally play.
- 2:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I don't know that you can get
- 2:54Speaker 5: up to speed. I think that's what the game's for,
- 2:57Speaker 5: is there's a transition. There's OTAs which yeh, you know,
- 3:00Speaker 5: and then there's a training camp and you start hitting
- 3:04Speaker 5: a little bit.
- 3:05Speaker 2: There needs to be that transition to the regular season.
- 3:08Speaker 5: The preseason won't match the regular season opener, but It
- 3:11Speaker 5: gets you one more step closer, and they'll play a
- 3:14Speaker 5: quarter quarter and a half the starters. That gets the
- 3:17Speaker 5: blood pumping a little bit and gets you a little
- 3:19Speaker 5: more ready for that ran.
- 3:20Speaker 7: You know, I kind of think it's kind of like
- 3:21Speaker 7: the show.
- 3:22Speaker 4: You know, when we started doing the show a couple
- 3:23Speaker 4: of weeks back, after taking a couple of weeks off,
- 3:25Speaker 4: it kind of felt start and stop. You know, it's
- 3:27Speaker 4: pretty good. We hadn't done it for a while notwithstanding that,
- 3:30Speaker 4: but you get my point. It's about getting back into
- 3:32Speaker 4: the rhythm of it to understand it. You know what
- 3:34Speaker 4: the guy next to you is doing, what the play
- 3:36Speaker 4: design is, all of that kind of stuff.
- 3:39Speaker 2: They'll get to it.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Let's do our final big thing today. It's dog Days now, Ryan,
- 3:44Speaker 3: ielt's off the top.
- 3:45Speaker 6: He said he doesn't believe in the dog days. I'll
- 3:47Speaker 6: politely disagree on that one.
- 3:48Speaker 3: But are we very yet, Brian? I mean we're about
- 3:50Speaker 3: two and a half weeks and we've had some hot practices.
- 3:53Speaker 6: What can you learn about your team during the dog days?
- 3:55Speaker 2: Is this over yet? Got nuke? What can you learnt?
- 4:00Speaker 4: It's about the mental side of the game at that point,
- 4:02Speaker 4: because the guys who can dial in their focus, who
- 4:06Speaker 4: can find their frequency right there and then and stay
- 4:09Speaker 4: with it. Those are the guys that end up making
- 4:11Speaker 4: this team or building a career in the NFL. The
- 4:15Speaker 4: long days, you know, consecutive days, the grind of it.
- 4:19Speaker 4: If it's still a grind compared to what camp used
- 4:21Speaker 4: to be, but there is some grind to it that
- 4:26Speaker 4: requires you to really be purposeful about what you're doing
- 4:30Speaker 4: and when you're doing it.
- 4:31Speaker 5: Yeah, the old man and me will tell you there
- 4:34Speaker 5: are no dog days in camp right now compared to
- 4:36Speaker 5: what it was. But it's not what it was. It's
- 4:38Speaker 5: what it is to me. The dog days were this
- 4:40Speaker 5: last weekend when you go fourn Or. Doug Peterson talked
- 4:44Speaker 5: about it. For the young guys, there's a little bit
- 4:46Speaker 5: of a wall right now. They have to fight there.
- 4:48Speaker 5: And I forget which day he talked about it, but
- 4:50Speaker 5: he was pretty good on it and said, look, the
- 4:52Speaker 5: young guys have to learn right now.
- 4:55Speaker 2: To fight through this.
- 4:56Speaker 5: Still find a way to produce, still find a way
- 4:59Speaker 5: to keep learning even though you're tired. He talked about
- 5:02Speaker 5: in that process is where these guys learn how to
- 5:05Speaker 5: be pros. So for what they can push them with
- 5:09Speaker 5: with no two a days anymore. These very much are
- 5:11Speaker 5: the dog days. It felt like that over the weekend
- 5:14Speaker 5: and now there's no more four straight day practices. It's
- 5:18Speaker 5: two right now and they're not and you have a game.
- 5:21Speaker 5: So the dog days, as it were, are over. But
- 5:24Speaker 5: they did push through, push right through.
- 5:26Speaker 6: Stay with us here on Jagzam.
- 5:28Speaker 3: We're prepared to do some hot takes and we're going
- 5:29Speaker 3: to talk about that preseason game coming up on Saturday.
- 5:43Speaker 6: Welcome back to Jagzam.
- 5:44Speaker 3: You can see fields for Jacksonville's premier luxury auto group,
- 5:48Speaker 3: got Fieldauto dot com. Also, for eleven years, Dreambinders Homes
- 5:52Speaker 3: have been proud to call themselves the official homebuilders of
- 5:54Speaker 3: the Jacksonville Jaguars. Is it dreambinders Homes dot Com for
- 5:57Speaker 3: all the available inventory and go Jags so alive. Look
- 6:04Speaker 3: right now at practice, as Trevor Lawrence trying to get
- 6:07Speaker 3: everybody organized early on. This is going to be a
- 6:09Speaker 3: shorter practice today, so imagine we'll get into team drills
- 6:12Speaker 3: in a little bit.
- 6:13Speaker 6: But things are looking good.
- 6:14Speaker 3: We'll see him, I think Head coach Doug Peterson said,
- 6:17Speaker 3: we'll see the first teamers for about one or two
- 6:21Speaker 3: drives depending on how they go. I think that's kind
- 6:23Speaker 3: of them that he usually goes with. So we'll be
- 6:26Speaker 3: good to see the starters out there for a little bit.
- 6:28Speaker 4: Yeah, you need to see the offensive line, especially if
- 6:31Speaker 4: Cam and Ezra are going to be back and playing.
- 6:33Speaker 4: You need to develop that timing, that rhythmic cohesion, especially
- 6:37Speaker 4: with a new starting center in the middle of it.
- 6:38Speaker 4: You need time in the preseason because they're not going
- 6:40Speaker 4: to play against the Buccaneers, and then they'll get back
- 6:43Speaker 4: in against the Falcons, so you want to make sure
- 6:45Speaker 4: you get.
- 6:45Speaker 7: The most time available to them.
- 6:47Speaker 5: Yeah, that's been Doug's EMMO for people who didn't really
- 6:49Speaker 5: catch earlier in camp. If they practice against a team
- 6:53Speaker 5: early in the week, then he doesn't play the starters
- 6:56Speaker 5: in the game. So that's what the Tampa Bay situation
- 6:58Speaker 5: will be. And then against against the Chiefs, he'll play
- 7:01Speaker 5: the starters. So again about a quarter and a half,
- 7:05Speaker 5: I would think in terms of the offensive line, Brian.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Yes, they need to get reps.
- 7:11Speaker 5: The reality is the way the league is set up now,
- 7:14Speaker 5: Mitch Morse talked about it, I'm not sure the offensive
- 7:17Speaker 5: line ever has a legitimate chance for real cohesion until
- 7:21Speaker 5: the regular season starts anymore. They've got to get what
- 7:24Speaker 5: you're talking about. They've got to get a glimpse of it.
- 7:26Speaker 5: But it's so hard to get any sort of hitting
- 7:28Speaker 5: because they're so scared of injuries. Correctly, so it's not
- 7:32Speaker 5: the coaches are doing the right thing, but it's not.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Until week four or five where they really feel cohesion.
- 7:36Speaker 2: I don't think Listen, they might not need it. You're
- 7:39Speaker 2: probably right.
- 7:40Speaker 7: I need to see it.
- 7:41Speaker 5: No, they need it, but it's even hard to judge
- 7:45Speaker 5: because you're only seeing him for two series.
- 7:46Speaker 2: It's an amazing thing to think about these guys.
- 7:49Speaker 5: It's so important, and yet the circumstance of the league
- 7:53Speaker 5: dictate that it's really hard to prepare.
- 7:55Speaker 4: On Monday, they were indoors because of the rain, obviously,
- 7:58Speaker 4: but it didn't look like the offense line had anything
- 8:01Speaker 4: going forward it.
- 8:02Speaker 7: It was at a disadvantage all day. They were having
- 8:04Speaker 7: a bad day.
- 8:04Speaker 4: I don't know what it is, but I left that
- 8:06Speaker 4: practice saying, these guys really need time together.
- 8:09Speaker 3: They do, and the injury bug has been hurting them
- 8:11Speaker 3: as well, as we mentioned. I'll talk a little bit
- 8:13Speaker 3: about that in my hot take later, but let's just
- 8:15Speaker 3: in this or that. Right now, we're gonna play the
- 8:17Speaker 3: Chiefs on Saturday, right, So is this a big deal
- 8:20Speaker 3: or not? It's the preseason, but you're going up against
- 8:22Speaker 3: the Super Bowl champ. Whether we'll see a ton of
- 8:24Speaker 3: their starters, we don't know about that just yet. But Brian,
- 8:27Speaker 3: is it a big deal or is it not a
- 8:29Speaker 3: big deal?
- 8:29Speaker 7: Well, here's why it's a big deal to me because,
- 8:33Speaker 7: and John.
- 8:33Speaker 4: You know this, there are good teams that do everything
- 8:36Speaker 4: well right.
- 8:37Speaker 2: They practice well, they travel well, they eat well.
- 8:39Speaker 7: I mean everything they do they do it at a
- 8:42Speaker 7: high standard. In Kansas City is one of those teams.
- 8:45Speaker 4: This franchise, this team aspires to be one.
- 8:48Speaker 7: Of those teams. Well, how do you get there?
- 8:50Speaker 4: Well, in twenty seventeen, they went and practice against the
- 8:52Speaker 4: Patriots and saw it firsthand. I think that's the exact
- 8:55Speaker 4: same thing that you have here. Is you've got a
- 8:57Speaker 4: young franchise, young team that wants to be.
- 9:02Speaker 7: The team that does everything the right way.
- 9:04Speaker 4: Well, you're gonna see that when Andy reading the Chiefs
- 9:06Speaker 4: are here on Saturday night.
- 9:09Speaker 5: You did a great job with that, because I almost
- 9:12Speaker 5: believed that the preseason game was a big deal there
- 9:15Speaker 5: for me.
- 9:16Speaker 2: But I get to your point.
- 9:18Speaker 5: They can use that as a model in terms of
- 9:20Speaker 5: the actual game itself.
- 9:22Speaker 2: I have a hard time swallowing that it's a.
- 9:23Speaker 5: Big deal for the starters or for any sort of
- 9:26Speaker 5: evaluation the Chiefs being it isn't a big deal to
- 9:30Speaker 5: me because I just feel like, you know, you've watched
- 9:32Speaker 5: so many preseason games.
- 9:34Speaker 2: There's not the intensity, there's not that Mahomes magic or
- 9:37Speaker 2: whatever that is. It's a big deal for evaluation, but oh,
- 9:40Speaker 2: give your credit.
- 9:41Speaker 5: I'll give you the w I was quite because I
- 9:43Speaker 5: heavily qualified. Boy, this is gonna be Yeah, I heavily
- 9:46Speaker 5: qualified it again, that's me. It's cool to see that
- 9:50Speaker 5: up close for these teams, right, And I agree with you.
- 9:52Speaker 5: But the Patriots that year it seemed to matter. They
- 9:54Speaker 5: seem to pick up something when they they got to a
- 9:56Speaker 5: good start. They made the playoffs that year. I'm not
- 9:58Speaker 5: saying that practicing against the Patriots.
- 10:00Speaker 4: It's just you want your team to see how the
- 10:03Speaker 4: best does it, and the Chiefs are the best.
- 10:05Speaker 3: You always get up a little bit more when you're
- 10:07Speaker 3: playing the champs. So there's that, Brian, you should give
- 10:09Speaker 3: the pregame speech. I think, just get a to the
- 10:11Speaker 3: latest way.
- 10:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I think listen, I think most reaction You're right
- 10:15Speaker 4: about that talking is not my problem. Stopping is. I
- 10:18Speaker 4: think his reaction would be most of the players, they
- 10:20Speaker 4: get it. It's a preseason.
- 10:21Speaker 6: Get all right, let's do we're talking about evaluation.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Obviously, you're gonna learn a lot about the players. Some
- 10:26Speaker 3: of these rookies. It's their first not some of the rookies.
- 10:28Speaker 3: All the rookies, this is their first time playing in
- 10:29Speaker 3: an NFL game.
- 10:30Speaker 6: So when you go out.
- 10:31Speaker 3: There, is there a lot of pressure specifically on the
- 10:34Speaker 3: rookies trying to figure things out? Or is it more
- 10:36Speaker 3: pressure for maybe a veteran player trying.
- 10:38Speaker 6: To make this squad.
- 10:39Speaker 3: There's a lot of veterans that have come in that
- 10:41Speaker 3: will make the squad, but you know, maybe a lot
- 10:43Speaker 3: of these offseason editions that we've been talking about, Mitch
- 10:46Speaker 3: Morris gave Davis others that we think are immediately going
- 10:49Speaker 3: to come in and have an impact.
- 10:50Speaker 5: What's the pressure like that as well? Yeah, I don't
- 10:53Speaker 5: think it's pressure on guys like Morris and Daves. I
- 10:55Speaker 5: think it's pressure on maybe a guy like Trey Flowers.
- 10:59Speaker 5: You know, I'm the roster a little bit the veteran
- 11:03Speaker 5: guy who is in here trying to be maybe either
- 11:08Speaker 5: a fifth guy or a practice squad guy. But for
- 11:11Speaker 5: the most part, those guys can also hap they've been around,
- 11:13Speaker 5: they've been in that position, they've seen other guys do it.
- 11:17Speaker 2: I'll answer like this.
- 11:18Speaker 5: The coaches do everything they can, I think, to ease
- 11:21Speaker 5: the pressure on rookie.
- 11:23Speaker 2: But there's pressure.
- 11:24Speaker 5: I mean, I can remember, you know, as iconic as
- 11:27Speaker 5: Fred Taylor is, I remember him telling me the first
- 11:30Speaker 5: few games he didn't think he was gonna make a team.
- 11:32Speaker 2: And he was a first round pick. Obviously he was
- 11:35Speaker 2: gonna make the team.
- 11:36Speaker 5: But when you're a rookie coming in and you're facing
- 11:39Speaker 5: that for the first time, and then there's this reality of.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I was just did in college anymore? You know?
- 11:43Speaker 5: So, yeah, there's pressure. But I do think, Bryan, I'm
- 11:47Speaker 5: talking to most of these guys. As soon as the
- 11:49Speaker 5: first couple of plays.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Happen, it goes back to football, and these guys are
- 11:53Speaker 2: high end. But there's pressure going in.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Right, and the pressure isn't a bad thing because that's
- 11:56Speaker 4: what you're gonna face every.
- 11:57Speaker 7: Sunday, right in the fourth quarter a big game.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Can you handle what you are seeing and feeling as
- 12:03Speaker 4: you go through the course of it. There is some
- 12:06Speaker 4: pressure though, because you've got guys who are.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Gonna get limited reps.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Right next week, a lot of reps are gonna be
- 12:14Speaker 4: spent on starting players, and then the week after that
- 12:16Speaker 4: you start giving more reps in practice to the veteran
- 12:19Speaker 4: players who are.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Gonna make the team.
- 12:21Speaker 4: So Saturday night is one really golden opportunity for a
- 12:26Speaker 4: younger guy, a younger veteran or a rookie to make
- 12:29Speaker 4: the most and try to carve his space up that
- 12:33Speaker 4: pseudo depth chart that Brian Nielsen talks about, but to
- 12:36Speaker 4: make an impression on the coaches.
- 12:38Speaker 6: A depth chart that's made in sand.
- 12:40Speaker 7: That's a great line.
- 12:41Speaker 3: So we'll see what that kind of ends up looking
- 12:43Speaker 3: like at the end of the weekend. Coming up here
- 12:45Speaker 3: on jag Zam, we'll take another live look at practice
- 12:47Speaker 3: and then we'll do some hot takes as well to
- 12:49Speaker 3: see if I here.
- 13:04Speaker 6: DAGs fans, you're invited to the.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Firehouse sub San Marco location at nineteen forty nine San
- 13:08Speaker 3: Marco Boulevard in Jacksonville on Friday, August ninth, from three
- 13:12Speaker 3: to four for a very special event you can meet
- 13:14Speaker 3: current Jaguars players. Jackson Deville. The Roar cheerleaders will be
- 13:18Speaker 3: there as well to kick off the thirtieth year of
- 13:20Speaker 3: Jaguars Football and Firehouse Subs in Jacksonville.
- 13:22Speaker 6: We hope to see you there.
- 13:27Speaker 3: I got a practice today as they get ready for
- 13:29Speaker 3: their first preseason game of the year on Saturday. So
- 13:32Speaker 3: a little bit shorter, lighter practices the back half of
- 13:35Speaker 3: this week, but we'll finally get to see them in
- 13:36Speaker 3: game action, at least the starters for a little bit,
- 13:38Speaker 3: and then some of the.
- 13:39Speaker 6: Rookies, younger players that we haven't seen yet.
- 13:41Speaker 3: So it's going to be exciting to see them out
- 13:43Speaker 3: there and of course taking on the Chiefs as well.
- 13:47Speaker 3: As I look forward, I think we're going to do.
- 13:49Speaker 3: We're gonna do our hot takes right now. Actually, so, Brian,
- 13:51Speaker 3: do you remember what your hot take is?
- 13:52Speaker 2: I do? I do.
- 13:53Speaker 4: And it's young corners who are making plays. And there
- 13:56Speaker 4: are three of them that in the last week. Have
- 13:58Speaker 4: mont K Brown, who had a big play against Gave
- 14:00Speaker 4: Davis on Sunday down the sideline, really did a nice
- 14:03Speaker 4: job against the big body to turn and break the
- 14:06Speaker 4: ball up. Trey Prince, who has had a great day
- 14:09Speaker 4: on Monday in practice, and Christian braswell, who has had
- 14:13Speaker 4: a really solid camp. It's important because we talked about
- 14:17Speaker 4: needing depth in the secondary and playing this press band coverage.
- 14:21Speaker 4: And I asked Ryan Nielsen during his news conference about
- 14:23Speaker 4: an hour ago about these three guys, and his eyes
- 14:26Speaker 4: lit up and he's seen the exact same thing.
- 14:28Speaker 7: He likes where they're at and what they're doing.
- 14:30Speaker 4: Trey Prince in particular, the rookie fifth round draft pick,
- 14:32Speaker 4: I really have been impressed with. He's got length, he's
- 14:35Speaker 4: got speed, he's got an attitude, he's got a chip
- 14:37Speaker 4: on his shoulder. He really wants to play well. So
- 14:39Speaker 4: it's good to see those guys. It's important because you're
- 14:42Speaker 4: not gonna be able to go to free agency and
- 14:44Speaker 4: just go pay the highest.
- 14:47Speaker 7: Salary for a corner. You've got that entice in Campbell.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Now, and this team has over the last twenty years
- 14:53Speaker 4: made up for their lack of depth or inability to
- 14:56Speaker 4: develop talent in free agency. And Trent Balke and I
- 15:00Speaker 4: had a conversation on the practice field last week, and
- 15:02Speaker 4: he knows that he's got to bring the talent in
- 15:04Speaker 4: for these coaches who then have to coach their butts
- 15:07Speaker 4: off and get these guys ready to play. And it
- 15:09Speaker 4: sure looks like that's what's happening with christ Richard in
- 15:12Speaker 4: the secondary. These three young corners are playing well.
- 15:15Speaker 5: Yeah, they've invested a lot in it in terms of numbers,
- 15:18Speaker 5: necessarily in terms of high picks and these guys you're
- 15:20Speaker 5: talking about, But.
- 15:21Speaker 2: I agree that's really important.
- 15:23Speaker 5: It's a good sign too, Brian, that you've got three
- 15:25Speaker 5: guys you're talking about, because they really don't need all
- 15:28Speaker 5: three to be high end. They need a couple of
- 15:30Speaker 5: those guys they can depend on, so their odds are good.
- 15:33Speaker 5: And I agree you like what you're seeing out of
- 15:35Speaker 5: these guys. And I think with Braswell in particular, everybody
- 15:42Speaker 5: talked during the draft, well why don't they go after
- 15:43Speaker 5: this guy, Why don't they.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Take it's position of weakness.
- 15:46Speaker 5: They like Christian Braswell a lot last year, and then
- 15:49Speaker 5: he got hurt, so I think they were sort of
- 15:51Speaker 5: playing the percentages a little bit. Hey, we have Christian Arrow,
- 15:55Speaker 5: draft one more guy late and later in the draft
- 15:57Speaker 5: in Prince, and then see our percentages on these guys
- 16:00Speaker 5: develop them. It's a good sign because you need numbers
- 16:03Speaker 5: back there you need and you also need those guys
- 16:05Speaker 5: for teams, So that's.
- 16:07Speaker 7: The big thing.
- 16:08Speaker 4: On Saturday night, you can see how these guys play
- 16:09Speaker 4: on special teams because that's where they're going to not
- 16:12Speaker 4: not only make the roster ki but be active on
- 16:16Speaker 4: game day.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Earn a jersey, to earn a jersey, got to earn it.
- 16:19Speaker 6: It's one of my favorite position battles. I just want
- 16:21Speaker 6: to say the secondary is definitely something we should keep
- 16:23Speaker 6: an eye on. I kick it back to you, John.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Well, kick it back to me. Good segue. You're pro.
- 16:27Speaker 5: I went with Cam Little and it went against everything
- 16:30Speaker 5: I believe in a little bit because here I am
- 16:33Speaker 5: talking about how this kid has shined in training camp,
- 16:37Speaker 5: how boys look great. And I know that it doesn't
- 16:41Speaker 5: matter for kickers until the lights go on. It doesn't
- 16:43Speaker 5: matter really until week one or sometimes when you're kicking
- 16:47Speaker 5: a game winner. But everything you see out of Cam
- 16:50Speaker 5: Little is nothing's affected him so far. He knew coming
- 16:56Speaker 5: in his sixth round, pick six or seven.
- 16:59Speaker 6: OK.
- 17:00Speaker 2: So yes he.
- 17:02Speaker 5: Has the advantage coming in over Riley Patterson, but he
- 17:05Speaker 5: stills to earn it and he's gone out and there
- 17:08Speaker 5: really hasn't been any flubs.
- 17:09Speaker 2: There hasn't been any.
- 17:10Speaker 5: Day where he looked like a rookie who was you know,
- 17:13Speaker 5: it was too big for him and the lag man.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I mean, he's.
- 17:18Speaker 5: All indications right now is he looks like that guy
- 17:21Speaker 5: who could be the kicker for a long time now.
- 17:23Speaker 5: So you say that about a kicker, you know, the
- 17:25Speaker 5: circuits go crazy.
- 17:26Speaker 2: But I'm very optimistic about this kid.
- 17:28Speaker 5: It's it's very interesting to watch that they may have
- 17:31Speaker 5: solved something that's been an issue for a few years.
- 17:33Speaker 4: So I'm convinced that he has a bionic you know,
- 17:37Speaker 4: hip flexer or something.
- 17:38Speaker 2: He was on.
- 17:39Speaker 7: He was on the field last week and they had.
- 17:41Speaker 4: That little you know, like tee that holds the ball
- 17:44Speaker 4: up so they can kick field goals. And he was
- 17:47Speaker 4: not stepping. He was just swinging his leg, plant foot
- 17:50Speaker 4: and swinging his leg and they started at you know,
- 17:52Speaker 4: twenty five yards and they got up to forty five
- 17:54Speaker 4: fifty yards and he's still booming the ball without taking
- 17:57Speaker 4: a step. It's amazing to watch the leg. That is
- 18:01Speaker 4: a god given gift and he knows how to use it.
- 18:03Speaker 4: We'll see again when the lights are on and the
- 18:05Speaker 4: pressure's there. But you know, Doug was trying to get
- 18:07Speaker 4: a little sense of that on the practice field on
- 18:09Speaker 4: Saturday in the stadium.
- 18:10Speaker 7: And stopped it, got the crowd going and drilled it.
- 18:14Speaker 7: I mean, it appears the kid is unflappable.
- 18:17Speaker 5: We've all been around kickers a lot. Some guys just
- 18:22Speaker 5: have the gene, the personality type to handle it and
- 18:27Speaker 5: not have.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Stuff for it.
- 18:30Speaker 5: This kid's again, it's so hard to predict with him,
- 18:34Speaker 5: but this kid seems to have that and the legs
- 18:37Speaker 5: unbelievable because fingers crossed.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Kickers kind of like goalie and hockey like they're they're
- 18:42Speaker 3: kind of out there, they're doing their own thing. But
- 18:43Speaker 3: it works somehow, somehow it all comes together. And it's
- 18:46Speaker 3: good we don't practice at Piscoal anymore because I do
- 18:48Speaker 3: think sometimes he would look like he was playing on
- 18:50Speaker 3: the high school team because he is still twenty. So
- 18:52Speaker 3: we do have to remember his birthday is coming up.
- 18:54Speaker 7: His birthday is a week from Saturday, right against the Buccaneers.
- 18:57Speaker 6: Celebrate against Tampa.
- 18:58Speaker 3: It'll be good to see my hot take this week
- 19:01Speaker 3: is a little bit. We've touched on this already, but
- 19:03Speaker 3: I think we're gonna learn pretty quickly on Saturday whether
- 19:06Speaker 3: this offensive line has everything together. They didn't add a
- 19:08Speaker 3: lot to it other than Mitch Morris. They resigned Azra Cleveland,
- 19:11Speaker 3: who they traded for during the season, but a lot
- 19:14Speaker 3: of what they said the issues were last season was
- 19:17Speaker 3: injuries and not all playing together. So if they can
- 19:20Speaker 3: get everybody healthy and play together, the thought process is
- 19:22Speaker 3: that the offensive line is good enough. I think we're
- 19:24Speaker 3: gonna see this pretty early whether they have the depth
- 19:27Speaker 3: around them because some of them are dealing with injuries already.
- 19:30Speaker 3: As Anton Harrison goes into a second year, he's in
- 19:32Speaker 3: concussion protocol. We're not sure if he's gonna be playing,
- 19:34Speaker 3: probably not this weekend. Ezra Cleveland has a heel injury
- 19:38Speaker 3: that's limited him in practice as well, So we will
- 19:41Speaker 3: see if they're gonna be able to make this work
- 19:43Speaker 3: because injuries do happen, and they're gonna need somebody that
- 19:46Speaker 3: can step in and play that role. Walker Little's looked
- 19:48Speaker 3: great at both tackles. We know he's able to do
- 19:50Speaker 3: that and step in and play, but is there anybody else.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Cooper Hodges, you've mentioned before, he's heard he's working his
- 19:55Speaker 3: way back from a back injury as well, So we're
- 19:58Speaker 3: gonna see some of these young guys and some of
- 19:59Speaker 3: the big boys and see.
- 20:00Speaker 6: What they can do.
- 20:02Speaker 4: There aren't that many young interior offensive lineman. You see
- 20:07Speaker 4: guys like you see Keeping settling there. He's a six
- 20:09Speaker 4: year VET, right, Daryl Williams has been around here a
- 20:11Speaker 4: couple of years. I guess you could throw Luke Fortner
- 20:14Speaker 4: into the mix there, and maybe he plays better at
- 20:16Speaker 4: guard than he did at center. I don't know, but
- 20:19Speaker 4: you're relying on Tyler Shatley still, right, who's a ten
- 20:22Speaker 4: year VET, who said this is it for him. They're
- 20:26Speaker 4: gonna need some youth in the middle of that offensive
- 20:29Speaker 4: line because guys get hurt.
- 20:31Speaker 5: Yeah, the major storylines to me for Camp, for the line,
- 20:34Speaker 5: I'm ering away from the interior a little bit. At
- 20:37Speaker 5: some point you want to see if Foster and Hodges
- 20:39Speaker 5: can be those guys have grown.
- 20:41Speaker 2: You've drafted him.
- 20:42Speaker 5: You clearly love Hodge, as everybody who's talked to anybody
- 20:44Speaker 5: around here knows they love him.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Foster the same way.
- 20:47Speaker 5: Those should be your guys that you're developing by next year,
- 20:52Speaker 5: with Cam and Walker both in their last year. By
- 20:55Speaker 5: the end of this year, you want to be walking
- 20:58Speaker 5: around here with people whispering to you, Hey, looks like
- 21:00Speaker 5: Jamon Foster's can yo, it can beat the swing tag?
- 21:03Speaker 5: Like you want to start hearing those things. Other guys
- 21:06Speaker 5: could knock him off that track, But those are the
- 21:08Speaker 5: guys you're looking at.
- 21:09Speaker 4: I watched practice with Tonycelly on Monday and he was,
- 21:12Speaker 4: for what it's worth, impressed with Fosters. That's kid's got
- 21:15Speaker 4: a chance because he's got good feet.
- 21:17Speaker 6: That's so when you want to co sign, Yeah, that's
- 21:18Speaker 6: a pretty good endorsement.
- 21:20Speaker 7: He was impressed with his feet.
- 21:22Speaker 6: Very good.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Stay with us here on jack Zam. We'll be back
- 21:24Speaker 3: after the break discuss what's coming up before the preseason game.

- 21:51Speaker 3: official ticket marketplace of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 21:53Speaker 6: And the NFL.
- 21:56Speaker 8: It's them becoming a pro and what it means to
- 21:58Speaker 8: be a pro, how to take care of their body
- 22:00Speaker 8: these what it means to get rest tonight, what it
- 22:02Speaker 8: means to hydrate or eat, study when they're tired, you know,
- 22:07Speaker 8: and that's all the that's the process that they have.
- 22:11Speaker 9: To learn, because it's probably more of that mental grind,
- 22:16Speaker 9: especially when your body gets tired, they wear down mentally
- 22:20Speaker 9: a little bit, and the ones that can really stay
- 22:24Speaker 9: mentally strong really find a way.
- 22:25Speaker 8: To kind of push through.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Coach Doug Peterson talking a little bit about what we've
- 22:30Speaker 3: been talking about today and kind of learning to be
- 22:32Speaker 3: a pro right grinding through.
- 22:34Speaker 6: No one wants to be out there in full pads
- 22:36Speaker 6: practicing and not usually heat, but somehow they find a way. John,
- 22:40Speaker 6: what are we going to learn about them in this
- 22:42Speaker 6: first preseason game, maybe from the rookies you haven't seen
- 22:45Speaker 6: so far.
- 22:47Speaker 5: Probably for the rookies just a feel and I don't
- 22:50Speaker 5: know if we'll see it, but they'll get a feel
- 22:52Speaker 5: for the speed of the.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Game, the power, the change. I think we talked about earlier.
- 22:58Speaker 5: I think what the rookies learned more than anything is, oh,
- 23:03Speaker 5: that thing the veterans are talking about the speed that's real.
- 23:07Speaker 5: So it gives them a little bit of an idea
- 23:09Speaker 5: of okay out when I first played in the regular season.
- 23:13Speaker 2: I've got to be ready for something different.
- 23:15Speaker 5: I've got to be ready for a different level of
- 23:17Speaker 5: intensity and for some rookies, frankly, you hope not the
- 23:21Speaker 5: first four or five guys are afted. For some rookies
- 23:24Speaker 5: they figure out, oh, this isn't something I'm gonna be
- 23:28Speaker 5: able to do. But that won't be something they say.
- 23:31Speaker 5: But there are rookies that figure that out of Okay, well,
- 23:35Speaker 5: I need to.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Start brushing up the resume.
- 23:38Speaker 4: I'd like to learn that the offensive line is ready
- 23:40Speaker 4: to be more efficient on third down and short right,
- 23:43Speaker 4: that's the drum up and hdden, but as John pointed out,
- 23:45Speaker 4: we probably won't know that until the regular season. I
- 23:48Speaker 4: think what we're going to learn is is that Ryan
- 23:49Speaker 4: Nilsen and his coaching staff have taken a system and
- 23:54Speaker 4: implemented it pretty quickly because it's not all that complex, right,
- 23:58Speaker 4: and they played with great speed and d energy. And
- 24:00Speaker 4: I think we're gonna see the difference that a coaching
- 24:03Speaker 4: staff can make because this defense on Monday, but throughout
- 24:07Speaker 4: camp have.
- 24:08Speaker 7: Really looked like they're ready to.
- 24:09Speaker 5: Go augre with Brian again, which is a record, but
- 24:14Speaker 5: that's exactly I mean, what you want in the first quarter,
- 24:17Speaker 5: after the first quarter is to be walking around the
- 24:20Speaker 5: press box and what guys played fast, and does that
- 24:24Speaker 5: necessarily translate the regular season.
- 24:26Speaker 2: I don't know, but.
- 24:28Speaker 5: You don't want to not be feeling that because if
- 24:30Speaker 5: you're not playing faster right now, you sort of wonder
- 24:32Speaker 5: when they're gonna play fast.
- 24:34Speaker 3: A lot to talk about. We're gonna go over a
- 24:35Speaker 3: little bit more tomorrow on jag Zam. Then until then,
- 24:38Speaker 3: we will see you then
