- 0:00Speaker 1: So normally we would have Jimmy here for another segment,
- 0:03Speaker 1: but his voice was bad.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Well, and people people are sending us liquor questions. You know,
- 0:09Speaker 2: let's see, well you know your bourbons. This is a question.
- 0:13Speaker 2: I'm new to spirits. What would be a few good
- 0:15Speaker 2: bourbons to start with?
- 0:17Speaker 1: I you know, I'm a fan of and I don't
- 0:21Speaker 1: know how I've discovered it. I used to drink Elijah
- 0:24Speaker 1: Craig bourbon and that's still that's good. That's a good,
- 0:28Speaker 1: very nice bourbon. But I've become a big fan of
- 0:32Speaker 1: an Old Forester. And when I say that to people
- 0:37Speaker 1: who know liquor, they go, what why? But it's it's
- 0:41Speaker 1: a hundred proof, and I've decided I will not mess
- 0:44Speaker 1: with anything that's under one hundred proof.
- 0:49Speaker 3: You need something with a little kick.
- 0:51Speaker 1: You need to ask why.
- 0:54Speaker 4: I prefer a wild turkey one on one myself.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Now, that was my go to for a long time.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Wild turkey one know one, and it's it's good. I
- 1:04Speaker 1: like Old Forester because it's just sort of it's sweet.
- 1:08Speaker 1: There's a sweet side, do it. I went.
- 1:11Speaker 4: I went to Wild Turkey because it was Hunter Thompson's favorite.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Yeah, that's and that's exactly where I found it too
- 1:16Speaker 1: years ago.
- 1:17Speaker 2: It's interesting that you'd be new to spirits but wanting
- 1:20Speaker 2: to start with bourbon.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Yeah, well that's all your way up.
- 1:24Speaker 1: You know. Well, if you're new to spirits, where would
- 1:27Speaker 1: you start?
- 1:27Speaker 2: But if you I'd start with, uh, let's see, probably
- 1:31Speaker 2: some vodkas.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Yeah. I've always said that vodka, and I've always said
- 1:35Speaker 1: that vodka is for people who don't really like the
- 1:37Speaker 1: taste of alcohol because you always mix it with stuff.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I kind of like a little taste, even if it's
- 1:43Speaker 3: a bad one.
- 1:44Speaker 5: I prefer that as compared to the vodka taste straightforward.
- 1:47Speaker 5: Because when I started drinking, I started drinking jack and
- 1:51Speaker 5: coke was my first.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of ghost You almost can't you can't taste.
- 1:55Speaker 5: The Yeah, no, I don't know. I mixed so much
- 1:58Speaker 5: jack into the coke. My friends called it gasoline because
- 2:02Speaker 5: it I just I'll.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Take a vodka on the rocks with a squeeze of
- 2:06Speaker 2: lemon in there.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Perfect. Yeah. If I'm gonna, if I'm gonna drink vodka,
- 2:10Speaker 1: that's I'll drink it neat or you know, with ice.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I don't.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Let's see, have you been to the New State liquor
- 2:17Speaker 2: store that just opened up on Foothill.
- 2:19Speaker 5: I've seen it plenty of times. Nick lives next door
- 2:21Speaker 5: to it or something close to it. Let's not let's
- 2:24Speaker 5: not dox me, Bill, but I live close to it.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Is it nearby? Yeah?
- 2:28Speaker 3: Yeah, it's open, it is.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Have you been in?
- 2:30Speaker 3: I have not been in yet.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I've seen pictures of it and it looks very very
- 2:35Speaker 1: swing by on the way home. Yeah, it looks great.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Let's see. Uh, Jimmy's voice is making my throat hurt.
- 2:43Speaker 1: That's why we send him away.
- 2:45Speaker 4: Yeah, my wife was texting me, going send him home
- 2:48Speaker 4: for God's sake.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Any other drinking questions, that's pretty much it.
- 2:52Speaker 4: I think everybody heard that Jimmy was leaving and they went, so.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Are you a carry of the bourbon? Now? I know
- 2:59Speaker 1: you used to be a Maker's Mark. Yeah, I still
- 3:02Speaker 1: have some you because I never cared for that very much.
- 3:05Speaker 1: But I've got a friend of mine who's an ambassador
- 3:08Speaker 1: for makers Mark. Really.
- 3:09Speaker 5: Yeah, that's literally the one liquor I've sworn off. I
- 3:12Speaker 5: had one bad night.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Specifically, I got a makers Marks bottle he gave me
- 3:15Speaker 2: for my birthday that has my name on it.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Really.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:18Speaker 3: I mean the bottles are nice, thank you, Robert.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Yeah, and I know that people love tequila, and I've
- 3:26Speaker 1: never been a big tequila.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Really because that's my go to.
- 3:29Speaker 5: I used to be whiskey, but tequila has since become
- 3:31Speaker 5: my favorite liquor.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Tequila's my sleepy time tea.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's yeah, it's not something that's ever.
- 3:39Speaker 2: I mean, you know, if it's around, I'll drink it.
- 3:41Speaker 2: But Jimmy converted me from tequila to mescal.
- 3:43Speaker 5: Though, you know, like just drinking straightforward. Is there a
- 3:48Speaker 5: specific cocktailer?
- 3:49Speaker 2: I like it on the rocks, Yeah, but it's just
- 3:52Speaker 2: it's got a little smokiness to it.
- 3:53Speaker 4: It's like tequila with a little smokiness.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Right.
- 3:55Speaker 5: No, Messcal is great. I love Messcal. Question for you guys,
- 3:59Speaker 5: you're at a bar, haven't been to ever? What is
- 4:02Speaker 5: your go to.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Cocktail that you know somebody can't screw up?
- 4:04Speaker 2: If if it's one of those situations you always go
- 4:07Speaker 2: vodka rocks with a twist a lemon.
- 4:11Speaker 4: They can't screw that up.
- 4:12Speaker 1: It's pretty hard to screw up. If you say I'd
- 4:17Speaker 1: like a gin martini and uh, make it dry quite dry,
- 4:24Speaker 1: you know, not not very much formoth. Gotcha, just wave
- 4:28Speaker 1: the take the vermouth cap and wave it over the drink.
- 4:33Speaker 5: Yeah, my go to drink is always a whisky sour.
- 4:35Speaker 5: I don't care if it's traditional or not. The texture
- 4:40Speaker 5: isn't necessarily.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I'm not sure what a whiskey sour is.
- 4:44Speaker 3: I actually couldn't tell you what it is.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Either look it up, yeah quick, and then look up
- 4:48Speaker 2: Saint Germaine cocktail because I realized I have some St.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Saint Germain in my liquor cabinet. Remember Sue used to
- 4:54Speaker 2: love the Saint Germaine cocktails.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Yeah, there are. Saint Germaine is made out of a flour.
- 5:00Speaker 4: It's a it's very sweet and beautiful bottle love.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's there are several cocktails that use Saint Germaine.
- 5:07Speaker 5: A whiskey sour is a mixed drink or shot containing whiskey,
- 5:10Speaker 5: lemon juice, and sugar, and traditionally garnished with a cherry
- 5:13Speaker 5: or sometimes a lemon wedge. Uh. And I know if
- 5:16Speaker 5: you order it specifically traditional style, they will take an
- 5:19Speaker 5: egg white and beat it into it to get like
- 5:21Speaker 5: a frothy type of texture.
- 5:23Speaker 3: But I don't really care.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I don't for that. Yeah, I don't like the sweetness here.
- 5:27Speaker 1: But here here's a drink that I like with that's
- 5:29Speaker 1: bourbon bourbon cocktail as it is a Manhattan, which is
- 5:34Speaker 1: bourbon and sweet vermouth and some bitters. And then you
- 5:39Speaker 1: put a couple of cherries in there. But don't use
- 5:41Speaker 1: those cheap ass Neon Maraschino cherries. You use Lizardo Lizarto
- 5:48Speaker 1: Lizardo cherries, that's the l u x ar d O
- 5:53Speaker 1: and it's they're they're pretty pricey. It's like twenty five
- 5:56Speaker 1: dollars for a jar a jar of it.
- 5:58Speaker 3: What's the difference is to.
- 6:00Speaker 1: T As a matter of fact, I think Marischino cherries
- 6:06Speaker 1: that we grew up with, I think that was they
- 6:09Speaker 1: are a knockoff of the Lezardo is the original. I
- 6:13Speaker 1: think it's they're Italian and they come in this syrup
- 6:16Speaker 1: and you don't refrigerate them because the syrup will get
- 6:19Speaker 1: all crystallized. You don't want to do that. And Lxardo
- 6:22Speaker 1: cherries are the.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Man I know you can get those at.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Ivy has them and they are just the best.
- 6:33Speaker 5: Has those go to cocktails for you guys always been
- 6:36Speaker 5: your go to?
- 6:36Speaker 3: Or is there something you started drinking.
- 6:39Speaker 1: To my go to was my mother's elderberry wine that
- 6:42Speaker 1: she made. Elderberry wine she had, she had a gallon
- 6:46Speaker 1: jugs of it in the basement.
- 6:48Speaker 3: What what what does elderberry wine taste like?
- 6:50Speaker 1: Oh, it's awful. It made me throw up every time
- 6:54Speaker 1: I drank it.
- 6:56Speaker 5: I've only heard of elderberry wine and like fantasy contact.
- 7:00Speaker 4: And see why he kept drinking again, Yes, sure wine.
- 7:06Speaker 2: It's funny because it was the sorority girls that taught
- 7:09Speaker 2: me how to appreciate wine or to drink it. Sure,
- 7:13Speaker 2: because I never liked it. And then the sorority girl said, well,
- 7:16Speaker 2: what you do is you mix grape juice with it,
- 7:19Speaker 2: of the white grape juice with chardonay, and you know,
- 7:22Speaker 2: you mix the two and then and then you start
- 7:25Speaker 2: to lower the amount of white grape juice that's in
- 7:27Speaker 2: the short day and to the point where you're just
- 7:29Speaker 2: drinking straight shard nae.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Right, I'll be damned at work.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Ye I know. My sister in law says, of these wine,
- 7:37Speaker 1: of the sionados, she says, all of that stuff that
- 7:40Speaker 1: they say, that's all just nonsense. It all just tastes
- 7:43Speaker 1: like crap. And you know, all those little Oh, I
- 7:46Speaker 1: can taste the tobacco and a little bit of a
- 7:49Speaker 1: hand of leather and the and and'm telling you, she says,
- 7:54Speaker 1: it's all just a scam.
- 7:55Speaker 4: No, I'm telling you right now. I used to think
- 7:58Speaker 4: that too. I used to think and then you get
- 8:01Speaker 4: into it.
- 8:02Speaker 2: It's like anything, you start learning about it, and yeah,
- 8:05Speaker 2: it's it's it's it's for real.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I think it's I think it's Somolier's brainwashing people. That's
- 8:10Speaker 1: what we do.
- 8:10Speaker 4: That's Oh, sure you say that. With Jimmy's not.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Here, I'll say it to his face.
- 8:14Speaker 5: Next. Is there a cocktail that you two won't drink or.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I won't drink anything. I don't like to drink anything
- 8:22Speaker 1: alcohol wise. That's sweet, Okay, I don't want anything sweet.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I've stopped drinking a lot of sweet stuff just because
- 8:29Speaker 2: it just makes it makes your head.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Hurt, you know.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Like there are all these great Star Wars cocktails in Disneyland.
- 8:36Speaker 2: It's Star Wars Land and the canteena there, and all
- 8:39Speaker 2: of them are like drinking drinking like hard candy, yeah,
- 8:43Speaker 2: you know, and just just terrible.
- 8:46Speaker 5: I used to like Mike's hard lemonade for a period
- 8:48Speaker 5: of time, especially when I started drinking. But when you
- 8:51Speaker 5: start what that syrupy taste almost gives me a worst
- 8:55Speaker 5: hangover than the alcohol content within it.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I think I got so I got the wild Turkey
- 9:00Speaker 1: on one from the same place you did, from Hunter Thompson,
- 9:03Speaker 1: And I think I got this from Hunter Thompson too.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I went through a little period where I would drink
- 9:09Speaker 1: rum on the rocks with a wedge of lime.
- 9:12Speaker 4: That sounds like something, I think it seems to me.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I got wider, dark, dark, dark, dark rum, and so
- 9:18Speaker 1: I would drink that and then but eventually I went,
- 9:21Speaker 1: this is awful.
- 9:23Speaker 4: I can't drink dark rum. It makes me angry and.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Hurt my head. And Jack Daniels is overrated.
- 9:30Speaker 3: I agree.
- 9:31Speaker 5: I've drank myself sick of Jack.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I've been to the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Yeah,
- 9:38Speaker 1: I've been there and which is and it was a
- 9:41Speaker 1: fascinating tour. And I said, well, do we get some samples?
- 9:45Speaker 1: And they said, no, no, Son, you don't get a
- 9:48Speaker 1: sample at Jack Daniels here. This is a dry county.
- 9:51Speaker 1: What I said, you make one of the biggest selling
- 9:56Speaker 1: whiskeys in the world in a county where you can't drink.
- 10:00Speaker 4: It's the think about Jack Daniels good looking.
- 10:03Speaker 5: Label, but I knew about the label before I started drinking.
- 10:08Speaker 5: That's why I picked it off. I was like, I
- 10:10Speaker 5: know this guy. I guess I'll try this as my
- 10:12Speaker 5: first purchase.
