Latest / The Next Round / The Next Round: Auburn STUNS No. 1 Georgia! Alabama CRUSHED by Tennessee in Historic SEC Chaos
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We start with the beautiful scene down on the plains
- 0:03Speaker 1: in Auburn.
- 0:05Speaker 2: The rolling of tumors corner.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Last week on the show, I literally said it several
- 0:10Speaker 1: times with different topics. There's no path to victory for Auburn.
- 0:15Speaker 1: How can we tell Auburn's getting better? What's a moral
- 0:20Speaker 1: victory for Auburn? Well, forget moral victories. That scene at
- 0:24Speaker 1: Auburn is one for the ages. Welcome back to College
- 0:27Speaker 1: Football Auburn. What a win over Georgia as they go
- 0:30Speaker 1: in there and they hold the dogs to 113 yards
- 0:34Speaker 1: rushing and they knock off the number one team in
- 0:37Speaker 1: the country.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Okay, for the first time in going on 18 years,
- 0:40Speaker 2: I am going to say this on our show. Oh, wow.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Brown and I were coming back yesterday from Gatlinburg. You know,
- 0:46Speaker 2: we stayed the weekend up there. We ended up not
- 0:47Speaker 2: making it over to Knoxville. But I am never going
- 0:51Speaker 2: to say never again in college football.
- 0:53Speaker 1: So you're saying you're never going to say never again.
- 0:57Speaker 2: You can. I think we are to a point now
- 1:00Speaker 2: where it has become as unpredictable as the NFL. I've
- 1:02Speaker 2: kind of like touched on that. We've glossed on it.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:05Speaker 2: But like this past weekend, and look, I will own it.
- 1:09Speaker 2: There was no path to victory. But talking to any
- 1:12Speaker 2: and every Auburn fan, they said the same thing.
- 1:14Speaker 1: That was by far the biggest shocker of the college
- 1:17Speaker 1: football season.
- 1:18Speaker 2: This is a revelation. This is a revelation.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Because you know how that used to bother me all
- 1:28Speaker 1: the time. That it was always some absolutes with you.
- 1:31Speaker 1: There's got to be a path. You can't say absolute anything.
- 1:35Speaker 2: And then last week, I did it too. I did
- 1:37Speaker 2: the same thing last week. I can't really explain it.
- 1:43Speaker 2: It's easy to say, well, it was a letdown. They
- 1:46Speaker 2: were on the road against Alabama. It was such an
- 1:48Speaker 2: emotional game. It came down to a couple of plays.
- 1:51Speaker 2: They were the number one team in the nation. But
- 1:54Speaker 2: you just don't see that. You don't see a three-touchdown
- 1:56Speaker 2: favorite at home playing an offense that absolutely has been
- 1:59Speaker 2: able to do nothing. Byron Brown to be able to
- 2:02Speaker 2: play at that level. And then on the other side,
- 2:03Speaker 2: Gunnar Stockton, you know, maybe not an elite quarterback, but
- 2:06Speaker 2: a quarterback that doesn't make any mistakes. I remember our conversation.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Brown painted the course to victory just like he did
- 2:13Speaker 2: for Oklahoma over Texas. And he's like, they've got to
- 2:15Speaker 2: do this. They've got to do this. And I was like, well,
- 2:18Speaker 2: how are they going to?
- 2:19Speaker 1: You expect Gunnar Stockton to turn it over three times?
- 2:23Speaker 1: How many shots of alcohol would he have to have
- 2:25Speaker 1: to turn it over three times? But even I said then,
- 2:28Speaker 1: and that still won't be enough. Auburn's going to have
- 2:30Speaker 1: to find some offense. And Byron Brown played his best
- 2:34Speaker 1: game as an Auburn Tiger. They found offense, but even
- 2:36Speaker 1: still done away. You know, we had talked last week
- 2:39Speaker 1: because I think you guys, you said it. If you're
- 2:42Speaker 1: an Auburn fan, what makes you feel good coming out
- 2:44Speaker 1: of this game? And I think you said, man, if
- 2:45Speaker 1: you're competitive and got a close loss, and I even
- 2:48Speaker 1: told Scottie and I was like, man, that's all Auburn
- 2:50Speaker 1: has done over the last two or three years is
- 2:53Speaker 1: just lose close games. You go back and you're like,
- 2:56Speaker 1: one play, we could have won that game. But even
- 2:59Speaker 1: in the moment, I'm thinking when they fumble on that
- 3:01Speaker 1: third down and they're fortunate to fall on it, I'm like,
- 3:05Speaker 1: they're about to give the ball back to Georgia. Georgia's
- 3:06Speaker 1: going to force overtime and win this game. But it's
- 3:09Speaker 1: going to feel different. I was like, I know I
- 3:11Speaker 1: said on the show last week that a close loss
- 3:14Speaker 1: wouldn't be enough, but this just felt different. Like, I
- 3:16Speaker 1: still didn't think.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Auburn was going to win the game. Look, I'm sitting
- 3:19Speaker 2: there and our buddy Richard Holland, big Auburn fan, and
- 3:21Speaker 2: he's not one of these, you know, obnoxious loud fans.
- 3:24Speaker 2: He is just, he's kind of, I guess, numb because
- 3:27Speaker 2: he's been beat up so much. And like he thought
- 3:31Speaker 2: there was no shot the whole time. And even when
- 3:32Speaker 2: we got to halftime, I told these guys based on
- 3:34Speaker 2: where the Vegas number was, I was like, Auburn's winning
- 3:36Speaker 2: this game. Yeah, Lance did say that at half. He's like, guys,
- 3:39Speaker 2: Auburn is winning this game. I was like, Lance, come on.
- 3:40Speaker 2: And they were both like, how? And I was like,
- 3:41Speaker 2: I don't know how, but they're winning this game. Because
- 3:44Speaker 2: the halftime number should be nine and a half or ten.
- 3:46Speaker 2: And we even texted with Furman a little bit. And
- 3:48Speaker 2: it was sitting there at six and a half. I mean,
- 3:50Speaker 2: it was absolutely right in the same situation. I know
- 3:52Speaker 2: we'll get to Alabama and Tennessee here in a little bit.
- 3:54Speaker 2: But what a weird day, and give Auburn a ton
- 3:57Speaker 2: of credit. I still can't believe when Georgia had the ball,
- 4:00Speaker 2: their final possession when Stockton just fumbled it away.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Bumped into his own guy and lost control of him.
- 4:06Speaker 1: So uncharacteristic. I'll read this, because on that play, let
- 4:10Speaker 1: me read this text real quick, Jim.
- 4:11Speaker 2: For me. As you're pulling that, I saw Brooks in
- 4:14Speaker 2: the hallway right before the show, and I was like,
- 4:16Speaker 2: I sent him my SEC rankings this morning, power rankings,
- 4:19Speaker 2: and I was like, that was impossible. It was absolutely impossible.
- 4:22Speaker 2: It was.
- 4:23Speaker 1: When these power rankings are unveiled, y'all are going to
- 4:26Speaker 1: probably laugh at mine, but that was so hard. I
- 4:28Speaker 1: hate that we're thinking so much alike because when I
- 4:30Speaker 1: texted Brooks mine last night, see if I can.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Find it here. But if I'm an Auburn fan, to
- 4:36Speaker 2: that point, you've got to have optimism.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I go back a couple of weeks ago. I was like,
- 4:42Speaker 2: I don't think they're going to make a bowl. I
- 4:43Speaker 2: think they're five and seven. And now you're sitting at
- 4:45Speaker 2: four and two, two and two in the league where
- 4:47Speaker 2: it seems like everyone has two losses. Same.
- 4:49Speaker 1: This Auburn fan guy has been a season ticket holder
- 4:52Speaker 1: for more than 40 years. Text me almost every single
- 4:54Speaker 1: weekend about Auburn's outcome. I just knew here's his, here's
- 4:59Speaker 1: his text. I just knew the movie I have been
- 5:01Speaker 1: watching for five years was going to end like it
- 5:03Speaker 1: always does. The opposing team kicking a game winning field goal,
- 5:06Speaker 1: partly because we had a bad snap on third down.
- 5:09Speaker 1: to keep us from making a game-winning drive. But lo
- 5:12Speaker 1: and behold, the football gods turned away their wrath and
- 5:15Speaker 1: made Stockton bumping into his offensive lineman and fumbled the football.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I mean, that's what it felt like. It was like, finally,
- 5:22Speaker 1: the football gods looked down and said, they've suffered enough.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Somebody give them a fumble. We'll get some reaction from
- 5:28Speaker 1: Alex Golish here in just a second. But when I
- 5:30Speaker 1: texted Brooks, my power rainy yesterday morning, I was like,
- 5:34Speaker 1: sort of a ridiculous exercise right now.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it's impossible. It feels that way. It's impossible.
- 5:38Speaker 1: But, you know, I literally could put there's a lot
- 5:41Speaker 1: of teams I could put on third or 12th. And
- 5:44Speaker 1: I'm like, either one makes.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Sense right now. And the most, you know, my buddy
- 5:47Speaker 2: Drew Chop was over yesterday because he's a big Cardinals fan.
- 5:50Speaker 2: And I'm sure we'll get to that at some point.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I mean, that was that was Georgia Auburn like as
- 5:55Speaker 2: far as like on the upset scale.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Truthfully, if your Rams keep playing the way they're playing,
- 5:59Speaker 1: we'll talk less and less in the rest of the season.
- 6:02Speaker 2: But anyway, he said, I watched the Auburn game until
- 6:06Speaker 2: it was 14-0 Georgia. He was like, I turned it off.
- 6:08Speaker 2: The game was over. What is win probability when Georgia's
- 6:10Speaker 2: up 14 against Auburn at home? In the first quarter.
- 6:13Speaker 2: It's probably 99%. If not worse.
- 6:17Speaker 1: It was on my second TV anyway because I was
- 6:19Speaker 1: trying to figure out why Ryan Grubb wouldn't run the
- 6:21Speaker 1: football the first two drives. And so I was, you know,
- 6:25Speaker 1: that was on a distance, and I just would glance
- 6:27Speaker 1: up between plays, and I was like, oh, it's 14-0 Georgia.
- 6:30Speaker 1: This is going exactly the way I thought it was going.
- 6:32Speaker 1: So hats off to Alex Ogolish and Auburn knocking off
- 6:36Speaker 1: number one, ending a nine-game losing streak in the Deep
- 6:40Speaker 1: South oldest rivalry, 20-1⁄2, 19-1⁄2, 21-1⁄2. Wherever you got the points,
- 6:46Speaker 1: you see the celebration there. You see the man on
- 6:48Speaker 1: top of the pile. That's Alex McPherson. Everyone knows his
- 6:54Speaker 1: battle with ulcerative colitis. Lost 55 pounds. Had to have surgery.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Made life-changing decisions just so he can keep playing football.
- 7:10Speaker 1: And to have that moment when he was running out there,
- 7:13Speaker 1: just amazing videos all over the Internet of fans in
- 7:17Speaker 1: the stands. saying, please, Alex, please, Alex, please, Alex, and
- 7:20Speaker 1: then the celebration going through. I felt good about that.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I told our Auburn buddy, Richard, hey, I wonder if
- 7:25Speaker 1: Towns McGoo was rolling.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Out for this 34-yarder. Yeah, he would not feel good.
- 7:28Speaker 2: It felt a little bit different. McPherson's had a hell
- 7:30Speaker 2: of a season. Hey, and Byron Brown earned his chain.
- 7:34Speaker 2: You don't wear that chain when you're playing like he was,
- 7:36Speaker 2: but he can wear that chain after playing like he
- 7:38Speaker 2: did Saturday.
- 7:39Speaker 1: And I will say this, too, and Luke and I
- 7:41Speaker 1: just talked about it on Monday Morning Live, but they
- 7:43Speaker 1: finally ran him the right amount. They finally made him
- 7:49Speaker 1: a design runner, and they ran the right amount. They
- 7:53Speaker 1: ran Jeremiah Cobb enough to get Cobb 13 carries and
- 7:57Speaker 1: 60-something yards, but Byron Brown, 26 carries, 115 yards. That's
- 8:03Speaker 1: just who they have to be with this offense, and
- 8:06Speaker 1: they did that against the the big bad bullies of
- 8:08Speaker 1: the SEC, the Georgia Bulldogs.
- 8:10Speaker 2: You know, and Byron even had that drop. Who had
- 8:12Speaker 2: the drop early that was the easy touchdown? Oh, Bryce King, right?
- 8:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yeah. So, I mean, the numbers would have looked a
- 8:18Speaker 2: lot better for Byron.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Yeah, it was as stunning an upset as I can
- 8:23Speaker 1: remember in the SEC. And you hate to say that
- 8:27Speaker 1: about what has historically been, you know, kind of a,
- 8:28Speaker 1: you know, upper tier program in Auburn. I mean, normally
- 8:31Speaker 1: when you say this, it's a Vandy or Kentucky doing it.
- 8:33Speaker 1: It was stunning. I mean, it's crazy. Let's start first, Tyler,
- 8:39Speaker 1: if you can. Let's go cut five, six, and seven.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Let's just empty the load here on Alex Goldish here.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Number five, this is Alex Goldish talking about capitalizing on
- 8:51Speaker 1: the opportunity you get, three turnovers. You had a gadget
- 8:56Speaker 1: play that worked. You had a great effort, a great kick,
- 8:59Speaker 1: and Auburn beats number one. Here's the Auburn head coach.
- 9:03Speaker 5: You have to be able to capitalize on the opportunities
- 9:05Speaker 5: you get. And it's in football.
- 9:08Speaker 2: It's in life.
- 9:10Speaker 5: And I don't want to make it some sort of
- 9:11Speaker 5: underdog story because it's still about helping these dudes grow
- 9:18Speaker 5: up to be men. I told him last night, if
- 9:22Speaker 5: you think about it, that it's a three-and-a-half-hour dogfight. Nobody's
- 9:29Speaker 5: going to give you a chance, but if you think
- 9:30Speaker 5: about it as a series of six to eight second
- 9:33Speaker 5: snaps and six to eight second one-on-one battles, if you
- 9:40Speaker 5: could play more violent and tougher and more detailed than
- 9:43Speaker 5: the guy across from you, one play at a time,
- 9:46Speaker 5: you'll get the result you want. I just want to
- 9:48Speaker 5: get this program, and I think we all want to
- 9:50Speaker 5: get this program back to where you expect to come
- 9:54Speaker 5: in and win these games.
- 9:56Speaker 2: It's a serious question. How does he have time in
- 9:58Speaker 2: season to watch the Saban documentary?
- 10:04Speaker 1: Michigan State going to play Ohio State. How long after
- 10:08Speaker 1: the game do you estimate that was?
- 10:09Speaker 2: Half an hour? I mean, you've done this a lot.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Let's see, 10 minutes, celebration on the field, 10 minutes.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I'd say that was probably anywhere between 20 to 35 minutes.
- 10:18Speaker 1: And the emotions were still fairly raw right there. He
- 10:21Speaker 1: had to collect himself a couple times.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Yeah, way right here. It gets worse. Cut six, Tyler.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Here's Alex Golish on Alex McPherson being the guy that
- 10:29Speaker 1: gets the game-winning kick over number one Georgia.
- 10:33Speaker 5: It's such a great example for our kids that– Don't
- 10:40Speaker 5: listen to anybody that hadn't been where you've been and
- 10:42Speaker 5: that hadn't put the work in that you've put in
- 10:44Speaker 5: and that hasn't been through. That young man is a
- 10:48Speaker 5: young man. He's a young man. He's married and has
- 10:53Speaker 5: lived more life than a lot of people. That kid's
- 10:56Speaker 5: been on so many hospital beds to get to this moment.
- 10:59Speaker 5: I'm so proud of him. Gave him the game ball.
- 11:04Speaker 5: He's earned that opportunity, but that's how he comes to
- 11:06Speaker 5: work every day. That's how he approaches his teammates.
- 11:09Speaker 2: He's a leader.
- 11:11Speaker 5: Man, couldn't have happened to a better human being. But
- 11:13Speaker 5: that's how he practices. That's how he prepares. That's how
- 11:15Speaker 5: he lives his life. He's a special human being.
- 11:19Speaker 6: Wow.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I mean, on the field, the postgame interview with ESPN
- 11:23Speaker 1: could barely even do it. He's got his son standing
- 11:26Speaker 1: next to him. His daughter had a prom, so all that.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I mean, could barely even do it, could barely even
- 11:31Speaker 1: get through the interview. You're still half an hour after that,
- 11:34Speaker 1: and he's still that emotional.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Well, you know, I don't think– did Brian Harsin ever
- 11:38Speaker 2: have a signature win? I don't think him or Hugh
- 11:40Speaker 2: Freeze ever did. Nothing that would approach this.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Nothing close to this. Hugh beat Texas A & M.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Harsin beat Ole Miss that one night. Harsin beat Ole
- 11:48Speaker 2: Miss that night. But I mean, their first win over
- 11:52Speaker 2: a number one since 2017. I mean, he gets it
- 11:55Speaker 2: six games in. So as bad as this looked, I mean,
- 11:58Speaker 2: and the perception of college football completely changed this weekend
- 12:01Speaker 2: to me. Yeah, no, no, no.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Overall.
- 12:03Speaker 2: I agree. I agree.
- 12:04Speaker 1: We'll get to all of that coming up. One more
- 12:06Speaker 1: and Auburn's went over number one. Here's Alex Golish talking
- 12:09Speaker 1: about how his son, as kids do, they don't understand
- 12:14Speaker 1: being 20 and a half point underdogs.
- 12:16Speaker 2: They think daddy should win every game.
- 12:18Speaker 1: He talked about his son believing that they'd be on
- 12:21Speaker 1: the field celebrating.
- 12:23Speaker 5: Sometimes it takes a 12-year-old to believe, you know. He
- 12:29Speaker 5: was an hour late for bed. Got his ass ripped
- 12:32Speaker 5: because he didn't make his bed in the morning. He
- 12:35Speaker 5: just wanted to sit there Thursday night, and I was
- 12:38Speaker 5: finishing up game planning, and his mom wasn't going to
- 12:41Speaker 5: let him come. My daughter's got homecoming tonight, so they're
- 12:45Speaker 5: actually at Tumor's right now rolling it.
- 12:46Speaker 2: She said, our house got rolled too.
- 12:49Speaker 5: Only in Auburn. Does everybody know where you live? I
- 12:53Speaker 5: guess it beats a for sale sign, right? But after
- 12:59Speaker 5: he got his ass ripped, I had to go to bed.
- 13:01Speaker 5: He just said, man, can I come down on the
- 13:04Speaker 5: field after we win?
- 13:11Speaker 2: It's pretty cool to share that with him.
- 13:12Speaker 5: I don't mean to get emotional about it. I just, it's,
- 13:16Speaker 5: I'm happy for, for everybody involved. And again, it's not
- 13:21Speaker 5: about me and it never will be, but pretty cool.
- 13:24Speaker 2: When a 12 year old believes, you know what I mean?
- 13:27Speaker 2: I love the innocent, uh, how, how naive kids can be.
- 13:32Speaker 2: It was, it was naive.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:33Speaker 2: I mean, but that's, you know, that's, that's, that's great
- 13:36Speaker 2: for this family. Yeah, it is.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I mean, I, I don't want to overstate this, but
- 13:40Speaker 1: don't you think some of that emotion, I mean, it's
- 13:42Speaker 1: an emotional game, but some of that emotion, he's no idiot.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I mean, he's hearing the same stuff that gets said
- 13:47Speaker 1: to us, right?
- 13:48Speaker 2: Like, oh.
- 13:49Speaker 1: New coach, same product. Where's that offense? We paid all
- 13:53Speaker 1: this money for South Florida's quarterback and South Florida's receivers.
- 13:56Speaker 2: We can't get first downs. I mean, he hears all that.
- 13:58Speaker 2: He's not an idiot. That's right. He hears all that.
- 14:01Speaker 1: So, I mean, I think you probably saw some of
- 14:03Speaker 1: the emotion of relief as much as anything. Yeah, we
- 14:06Speaker 1: had him 13th, 14th in our SEC power rating every week.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, just the relief of.
- 14:12Speaker 1: If nothing else, even if you don't hear all the criticism,
- 14:15Speaker 1: the relief lance of saying, and Jim saying, I took
- 14:18Speaker 1: this job and here's my plan and this will work
- 14:20Speaker 1: at Auburn. And for three, four, five weeks, you're like, God,
- 14:25Speaker 1: is this plan? It's not working. And you stick with
- 14:27Speaker 1: it and you stick with it and you stick with it.
- 14:28Speaker 1: And then finally you get proof of concept, right? Finally,
- 14:31Speaker 1: you go out and you play a quality team. on
- 14:34Speaker 1: the road that should dominate you. And you're like, all right,
- 14:37Speaker 1: there it is.
- 14:38Speaker 2: All the hard work. It paid off for one, one Saturday.
- 14:41Speaker 2: And technically, I mean, the fact they've got a better
- 14:45Speaker 2: sec record than both Oklahoma and Texas. No, they do.
- 14:48Speaker 1: And they just, they just missed the AP top 25 ranking.
- 14:53Speaker 1: They're 27th there. Uh, but their only losses are to
- 14:57Speaker 1: number 11, Tennessee and number 20, Florida. So, They've got
- 15:01Speaker 1: a pretty good resume right now with that win over
- 15:03Speaker 1: number one, Georgia. So good for Auburn. They beat number
- 15:06Speaker 1: one more on what this weekend was as we move
- 15:09Speaker 1: throughout the show. We will do our pick a team,
- 15:12Speaker 1: pick a game the rest of the show out as
- 15:14Speaker 1: we roll through it. Brought to you by our friends
- 15:16Speaker 1: at Hard Rock Bet. It is Monday at Hard Rock Bet.
- 15:20Speaker 1: And you can choose a same game parlay profit boost
- 15:25Speaker 1: or a no sweat bet to use on Mondays.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Plus you've got this.
- 15:29Speaker 1: If you're a new customer, bet $ 5, get up to
- 15:31Speaker 1: $ 500 in no-sweat bets. These guys were just in Tennessee,
- 15:36Speaker 1: so they were able to jump on the Hard Rock
- 15:38Speaker 1: Bet app and take advantage of that.
- 15:42Speaker 2: In Tennessee, yes, legal.
- 15:44Speaker 1: In Florida, it's Florida's only legal sportsbook and therefore the
- 15:47Speaker 1: most trustworthy option in the market. But it's also available
- 15:50Speaker 1: in Arizona and Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and New Jersey,
- 15:54Speaker 1: Ohio and Virginia to go with Tennessee and Florida. So
- 15:57Speaker 1: you can download that for the new features, the app updates,
- 16:00Speaker 1: and that promo. Hardrock.bet backslash clay. Hardrock.bet backslash clay. And
- 16:08Speaker 1: take advantage of it right there and see if it's
- 16:10Speaker 1: legal in your area.
- 16:12Speaker 2: All right. A lot to get to.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Joel Klatt will be on the show second half of
- 16:16Speaker 1: the next round on our platform.
- 16:18Speaker 2: He'll be with us at 1230 Eastern, 1130 Central.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Just a couple of historical points about the weekend, and
- 16:25Speaker 1: then we'll talk about specific games, okay? But just big overview.
- 16:29Speaker 1: The AP poll has been around for 90 years. It
- 16:33Speaker 1: is the first time that five of the top seven
- 16:36Speaker 1: lost the same weekend. 90 years, first time, five of
- 16:39Speaker 1: the top seven. You'll get a kick out of this.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I did this when the lines dropped yesterday. They've moved
- 16:46Speaker 1: a little bit, as they will, but when the lines
- 16:48Speaker 1: first dropped yesterday.
- 16:51Speaker 1: I counted in the FBS, I counted 30 games that
- 16:55Speaker 1: were minus seven or below. 30 games in college football
- 17:02Speaker 1: in the FBS that were minus seven or lower.
- 17:04Speaker 2: For this coming weekend. For this upcoming weekend. I mean,
- 17:07Speaker 2: that's NFL-like. It is NFL-like, and I think you've got
- 17:10Speaker 2: to make these adjustments. Obviously, Vegas is making these adjustments
- 17:13Speaker 2: because when you see double-digit dogs out there, now people
- 17:16Speaker 2: are going to gravitate to that. That's a lot of
- 17:19Speaker 2: points now. I mean, you don't see double-digit dogs a
- 17:21Speaker 2: lot in the NFL.
- 17:22Speaker 1: To your point, we quit counting because I asked Lance Saturday,
- 17:25Speaker 1: I was like, Auburn, somewhere around a 20-point underdog. Like
- 17:28Speaker 1: I said, it depends on where you saw it. 20.5, 19.5,
- 17:30Speaker 1: different places where it went off. And, you know, we
- 17:33Speaker 1: started the season talking about each week we had a
- 17:36Speaker 1: 20-plus point underdog win outright. So much so, we've quit counting. Like,
- 17:41Speaker 1: I mean, Auburn did it again Saturday. It is insane.
- 17:44Speaker 1: that these massive underdogs are finding ways to win games outright.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and just imagine this, and again, I know we'll
- 17:50Speaker 2: get to this game in a little bit, if Florida
- 17:51Speaker 2: State would have pulled that upset up, really, where would
- 17:54Speaker 2: we be?
- 17:54Speaker 1: And trust me, we moaned and griped about officiating in
- 17:59Speaker 1: the Alabama-Georgia game. We've got all that coming up as
- 18:02Speaker 1: we go throughout the show because I think Florida State
- 18:05Speaker 1: got jobbed a little bit. Notre Dame, who I don't like,
- 18:08Speaker 1: but Notre Dame got jobbed a lot.
- 18:10Speaker 2: We'll get to that coming up in the next episode.
- 18:11Speaker 2: And the NFL, too. There's a lot of bad calls.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Number one and number two lost on the same day
- 18:17Speaker 1: for the first time since November 17, 2012. So we
- 18:21Speaker 1: lost number one and number two lost on the same
- 18:23Speaker 1: day for the first time since 2012. It's that 2000
- 18:27Speaker 1: season I remember that number one and number two lost
- 18:29Speaker 1: every week, it seemed like. Do y'all remember who number
- 18:32Speaker 1: one and number two was in 2012? Have you seen this?
- 18:35Speaker 2: I have not. I would say Alabama. November 17th, 2012. Alabama?
- 18:41Speaker 4: Nope.
- 18:42Speaker 2: That was not their loss to A & M that day? Nope. Okay.
- 18:44Speaker 1: That must have been earlier because November 17th would have
- 18:46Speaker 1: been after the LSU game. That was when I thought
- 18:49Speaker 1: they lost it. That was right after the LSU game.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I guess they weren't number one.
- 18:52Speaker 3: 2012 LSU?
- 18:53Speaker 2: Nobody had lost Alabama.
- 18:55Speaker 1: It was Oregon and Kansas State on November 17, 2012.
- 18:58Speaker 2: In 2012, they were still number one. Yeah, Colin Klein.
- 19:02Speaker 2: I assume it was LSU, and then the next week
- 19:03Speaker 2: was Texas.
- 19:04Speaker 1: A & M in 2012 lost. So this would have
- 19:06Speaker 1: been the first poll after the Alabama and Johnny Menzel lost.
- 19:09Speaker 1: So Oregon and Kansas State were one and two when
- 19:12Speaker 1: they lost same day. Alabama and Georgia lost on the
- 19:15Speaker 1: same day for the first time since 2006. First time
- 19:19Speaker 1: since 1990 that Alabama, Georgia, and Texas all lost in
- 19:22Speaker 1: the same day.
- 19:23Speaker 7: Wow.
- 19:23Speaker 6: 1990.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:26Speaker 1: The last time that we had three number one teams
- 19:33Speaker 1: lose by October 17th was 1990. So we've had a
- 19:39Speaker 1: different number one team that has lost by October 17th
- 19:42Speaker 1: three times.
- 19:43Speaker 2: I was younger.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I did not remember 1990 being this volatile, but you
- 19:46Speaker 1: keep saying 1990. That must have been one heck of
- 19:48Speaker 1: an upset year. Do you know the time before that,
- 19:51Speaker 1: that three number one teams lost by October 17th?
- 19:55Speaker 2: It's never happened. It was 1984. What happened in 1984?
- 19:58Speaker 2: BYU won the national championship. BYU won the national championship.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Lance is about to give you an absolute. That ain't happening, right? What,
- 20:04Speaker 2: this year? Yeah, this year. No, there's the never.
- 20:08Speaker 1: And currently, as we sit here, The Big 12 has
- 20:11Speaker 1: more top 14-ranked teams than the Big 10 does, as
- 20:14Speaker 1: we said earlier. I brought that up to Lance on
- 20:16Speaker 1: the way home because we were driving somewhere near Fort Payne, Alabama,
- 20:20Speaker 1: and he pulled up.
- 20:21Speaker 2: The AP poll.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Was it Christmas at Dixie already? It was Christmas at Dixie.
- 20:24Speaker 1: It was Taco Bell in Dixie.
- 20:25Speaker 2: That Alabama museum is still up, I guess. I guess.
- 20:30Speaker 2: I don't know. How could anybody go to that?
- 20:31Speaker 1: So Lance dropped the– I mean, there are still museums for–
- 20:37Speaker 1: Abraham Lincoln and things like that.
- 20:39Speaker 2: A little bit different.
- 20:39Speaker 1: A little more impactful than Randy Owen and the boys.
- 20:42Speaker 1: So Lance, the AP poll had dropped. Lance was like, Brown,
- 20:44Speaker 1: see if you can guess the AP poll. And I
- 20:47Speaker 1: was like, well, I know Miami. I don't know that
- 20:49Speaker 1: Miami is the number one team, but they're bound to
- 20:51Speaker 1: be number one.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I think you got one through four. I think I
- 20:53Speaker 2: got one through four. I said, I think they'll go
- 20:54Speaker 2: BYU number two after the upset. And Lance says, you
- 20:57Speaker 2: got that.
- 20:58Speaker 1: BYU moved up six spots to number two. And I
- 21:00Speaker 1: was like, Ohio State's really the only team left you
- 21:04Speaker 1: could put number three. And he goes, you got that.
- 21:07Speaker 1: And I was like, but you can't really drop Notre
- 21:08Speaker 1: Dame and Georgia that much.
- 21:09Speaker 2: And he goes, they didn't. Notre Dame dropped two. Georgia
- 21:12Speaker 2: dropped four. Yeah.
- 21:13Speaker 1: But then after that, I was like, good luck, man.
- 21:15Speaker 1: I don't even know what to do after that.
- 21:17Speaker 2: I know you got to put them somewhere. I don't
- 21:18Speaker 2: feel like Miami and BYU are your two best teams
- 21:21Speaker 2: at college. I don't either. I don't either. Thank God
- 21:23Speaker 2: we have a playoff. Somebody's got to be one of
- 21:25Speaker 2: the two.
- 21:25Speaker 1: But I'm getting to the point that when Lance read
- 21:27Speaker 1: the rest of it to me, I was like, did
- 21:28Speaker 1: you think we would ever have two Big Ten teams
- 21:31Speaker 1: in the top ten this year at the same time?
- 21:33Speaker 2: Two Big 12? Big 12. I'm sorry, Big 12. You know,
- 21:36Speaker 2: if this was old school BCS, I don't know if
- 21:39Speaker 2: you would worry about BYU because the Big 12 is
- 21:41Speaker 2: so loaded right now, at least at this particular point,
- 21:43Speaker 2: because I was going to say, Miami and BYU, could
- 21:46Speaker 2: they really control their own destiny from here on out
- 21:49Speaker 2: if this was the BCS? Because Ohio State's still got
- 21:52Speaker 2: bigger wins coming up. Georgia's got bigger wins coming up potentially. Yeah.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Brown, they've got three, the Big 12 does, in the
- 21:59Speaker 1: top ten, by the way. BYU, Texas Tech, and Utah. Yeah,
- 22:02Speaker 1: I guess that was my point.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Three and nine, right? Or is it three and ten?
- 22:06Speaker 1: By the way, 23 with all the chaos, all the losses.
- 22:09Speaker 1: 23 of the top 25 teams stayed in the top 25.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Only Florida back in at 20 and Arizona in at 25.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Other than that, the 23 teams just snow globed and
- 22:22Speaker 1: moved around. Spot here, two spots there, four spots here.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Alabama dropping all the way down to number 13, a
- 22:29Speaker 1: seven spot drop. Biggest dropper, Texas, down to number 19.
- 22:35Speaker 1: And I had a number of people, including Butch, who
- 22:38Speaker 1: in our chat room says, Texas shouldn't be ranked.
- 22:42Speaker 2: I don't disagree.
- 22:43Speaker 1: They've got to win over No. 3 Ohio State and No.
- 22:45Speaker 1: 11 Tennessee on the road.
- 22:47Speaker 2: That's true. So they've got one of the better resumes. Yeah,
- 22:49Speaker 2: but they don't look like the top 25 teams. They
- 22:51Speaker 2: do not.
- 22:52Speaker 1: They've got to be ranked. All right, so there you go.
- 22:55Speaker 1: That's the opening segment. Auburn knocks off No. 1 and
- 22:58Speaker 1: all the historic chaos. We'll pick games and roll through those.
- 23:02Speaker 1: the rest of the show here because it was and
- 23:05Speaker 1: I'll say this even as a guy who is a
- 23:07Speaker 1: lifelong Alabama fan even with a loss on Rocky Top
- 23:12Speaker 1: I think it was the greatest Saturday of college football
- 23:14Speaker 1: of my life I don't know if you guys could
- 23:16Speaker 1: absorb it because.
- 23:17Speaker 2: You were on the road we had three TVs going
- 23:19Speaker 2: don't worry yeah Brown did a good job by the
- 23:21Speaker 2: time I got out of bed I came down and
- 23:22Speaker 2: he ate The place we stayed at was amazing. The
- 23:26Speaker 2: TV setup was terrible. It was. But Brown made us
- 23:29Speaker 2: a sports bar downstairs in our game room. I stole
- 23:32Speaker 2: TVs from each room. I had it set up.
- 23:36Speaker 1: To me, it was the greatest Saturday in college football history.
- 23:38Speaker 1: I'd love to hear what the chat room thinks as well.
- 23:40Speaker 1: This is the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet
- 23:43Speaker 1: on Sporting State. Before LT tells us about Clay Travis
- 23:48Speaker 1: Law developing news for... From the NFL, Jalen Hurts is
- 23:53Speaker 1: out for the season. He's been diagnosed with multiple blood clots,
- 23:58Speaker 1: not just in his legs now, but also in his lungs.
- 24:01Speaker 1: So that is a serious injury and life-threatening for Jalen Hurts.
- 24:05Speaker 1: So our thoughts and prayers out with him right now.
- 24:07Speaker 1: But football aside, that is one that you're concerned about
- 24:12Speaker 1: his career now moving forward.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Yeah, you're definitely concerned about the well-being of Jalen Hurts,
- 24:17Speaker 2: but this NFC West is so wild. Because, you know,
- 24:21Speaker 2: the Cowboys. NFC East. NFC East, yeah. That's pretty wild, too, though.
- 24:25Speaker 2: But the Cowboys lose again last night to the Packers.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Really dominating that game. The Commanders, boy, uphill climb tonight.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Got to play in San Francisco. The Giants lose. I
- 24:34Speaker 2: saw this this morning. This would be the first time
- 24:38Speaker 2: in NFL history the NFC East has gone back-to-back weeks
- 24:41Speaker 2: without a win. And they even had a game in
- 24:44Speaker 2: division last week. So think about that.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I sort of like the Commanders inside the numbers tonight
- 24:48Speaker 1: against San Francisco. A hard rock bet. You can go
- 24:51Speaker 1: play that. The next round brings you that. Tell us
- 24:53Speaker 1: about Clay Travis Law. We'll jump back into college football
- 24:57Speaker 1: and we'll start picking games. My first selection coming up
- 25:00Speaker 1: after we find out about the great Clay Travis Law.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Yeah, accidents do not wait for a good time. One
- 25:05Speaker 2: bad moment, a wreck, a fall. A doctor who wasn't
- 25:07Speaker 2: paying attention and suddenly you're fighting an insurance company that
- 25:09Speaker 2: does this every single day. That's why Clay started Clay
- 25:12Speaker 2: Travis Law. Built a firm around one idea. People deserve
- 25:14Speaker 2: someone willing to pay attention, ask those hard questions, and
- 25:17Speaker 2: push back when things don't add up. Experienced trial attorneys
- 25:20Speaker 2: who bring the fight to corporations and insurers based in Nashville,
- 25:23Speaker 2: trusted across the country. Here's what they promise. Honesty. They're
- 25:26Speaker 2: not going to sugarcoat your case. You're going to hear
- 25:28Speaker 2: what it's actually worth, not what you want to hear.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Case evaluation is free, no charge, no pressure, no hassle.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Just tell them your story. Go to ClayTravisLaw.com. Call 877-222-4444.
- 25:38Speaker 2: That's ClayTravisLaw.com. No case too big or too small. We
- 25:43Speaker 2: do it every Monday.
- 25:44Speaker 1: We're to keep us from talking about a thousand games
- 25:46Speaker 1: at one time. We each pick a game and we
- 25:48Speaker 1: go around the country. As fast as we can, I'll
- 25:52Speaker 1: go first. Alabama losing on the road at Tennessee for
- 25:55Speaker 1: their second loss of the year, back-to-back losses. My first
- 26:00Speaker 1: thought on this was the first two drives, Alabama on
- 26:04Speaker 1: the road did not run a traditional run play. They
- 26:07Speaker 1: did not hand it off to their running back. On
- 26:10Speaker 1: the scripted part of the script, I know there are
- 26:13Speaker 1: RPOs and things like that, but not one point did
- 26:17Speaker 1: the quarterback turn around and hand it off to a
- 26:20Speaker 1: running back for a running play. The one running play
- 26:22Speaker 1: on the first two drives was a sweep with a
- 26:25Speaker 1: wide receiver. Lottie Brooks from the right side to the
- 26:29Speaker 1: left side that went nowhere.
- 26:31Speaker 2: I think it's going nowhere all season. Well, and only
- 26:34Speaker 2: 14 traditional carries from the running back position in this game.
- 26:37Speaker 2: This did look a lot more like the Alabama offense
- 26:39Speaker 2: from last year, the inability to run. And the first
- 26:43Speaker 2: thing that I noticed that I brought up when we
- 26:44Speaker 2: were all watching is Ryan Coleman Williams. Like, he's got
- 26:47Speaker 2: to be a difference maker based on this for defensive coordinators.
- 26:50Speaker 2: And Jim Knowles did a great job, you know, scheming
- 26:52Speaker 2: against this Alabama offense. But Keelan, on those five sacks,
- 26:56Speaker 2: a lot of them were, you know, how long did
- 26:58Speaker 2: he have? He couldn't find anybody downfield. And you wonder
- 27:01Speaker 2: if the separation wasn't there because of the impact of
- 27:04Speaker 2: Ryan Coleman Williams not being on the field.
- 27:06Speaker 1: He doesn't get enough credit, to your point, of running
- 27:08Speaker 1: routes that clear out space for other guys.
- 27:11Speaker 2: That's right.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I was about to say the same thing, Jim, is
- 27:13Speaker 1: we just apparently don't talk enough about the respect he
- 27:16Speaker 1: still gets, even though he hasn't been what everybody thought
- 27:18Speaker 1: he was going to be. Defenses are still having to
- 27:21Speaker 1: respect him, obviously, because to Lance's point, I mean, they
- 27:24Speaker 1: would show replays. It didn't appear that there were a
- 27:26Speaker 1: lot of guys open. Russell wasn't great, but I don't
- 27:29Speaker 1: know that he had a lot of guys showing him
- 27:31Speaker 1: the numbers. I've tried to say it for two years,
- 27:33Speaker 1: that he is a tremendous teammate, that he never gripes
- 27:37Speaker 1: about balls being thrown to him. He wants more targets,
- 27:40Speaker 1: more targets. He never says that. He runs so many
- 27:42Speaker 1: routes where he's never going to get the ball. He's
- 27:45Speaker 1: running a clear-out route for somebody else, and that takes
- 27:47Speaker 1: a very— non-prideful person, especially.
- 27:51Speaker 2: In that position, to do that.
- 27:52Speaker 1: But on the other side of that, I know Ryan Williams,
- 27:55Speaker 1: Coleman Williams is out, so is Delgatti, but you've got
- 27:58Speaker 1: to credit Jim Knowles and that Tennessee defense. They were
- 28:00Speaker 1: spectacular Saturday. Alabama couldn't run the ball to save their life.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Keelan Russell couldn't find open receivers. Jim Knowles, when he
- 28:09Speaker 1: came to Tennessee, we talked about how big a coordinator
- 28:13Speaker 1: hire that was for the Vols if you could pair
- 28:15Speaker 1: it with Heupel's offense. Heupel's offense hasn't been amazing this year,
- 28:19Speaker 1: but that defense has.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Now they're sitting at 6-1. It was kind of a
- 28:23Speaker 2: perfect storm, a little like the Auburn game in this situation.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Alabama turned it over four times. They had 10 bad penalties.
- 28:31Speaker 2: They were 2 of 13 on third downs. And that offense,
- 28:35Speaker 2: after scoring 45-plus in the first five games, has... completely
- 28:39Speaker 2: skidded to a halt. Because the last six quarters, they
- 28:42Speaker 2: got 13 total points.
- 28:43Speaker 1: You forgive it against Georgia because you're saying, oh, Georgia's
- 28:45Speaker 1: defense is great. Tennessee's front seven, they ate Alabama's lunch.
- 28:49Speaker 1: But to your point, there were a lot of times
- 28:51Speaker 1: in pass protection that that line held up.
- 28:54Speaker 2: They did.
- 28:54Speaker 1: That line held up. And they couldn't find anybody open.
- 28:57Speaker 2: And on the other side, the defense got gashed again.
- 29:00Speaker 1: I wanted to bring that up because as frustrated as
- 29:02Speaker 1: I was about the first two drives, and it's hard
- 29:05Speaker 1: to criticize Kane Womack and the defense. Because if it
- 29:08Speaker 1: wasn't for that great defensive play, it could have been
- 29:11Speaker 1: 21-0 out of the gate instead of 9-0.
- 29:13Speaker 2: I thought Tennessee had missed their chance right there.
- 29:15Speaker 8: That's right.
- 29:16Speaker 2: When it was just 9-0, I thought they have missed
- 29:19Speaker 2: every opportunity.
- 29:20Speaker 1: So Kane Womack there, you know, tremendous job of that
- 29:23Speaker 1: defense early on. And I think they got tired late.
- 29:25Speaker 1: But how many times? I think he started saying it
- 29:28Speaker 1: in the second quarter. But I know he started saying
- 29:30Speaker 1: it early in the third quarter. Greg McIlroy, who doesn't
- 29:34Speaker 1: like Ryan Coleman Williams, doesn't get enough respect for the
- 29:36Speaker 1: job he does. How many times did he say, well,
- 29:38Speaker 1: eventually Alabama's gonna have to come up and press these receivers.
- 29:42Speaker 1: They're going to have to stop giving them such a
- 29:43Speaker 1: big cushion on the outside. Eventually they're going to have
- 29:45Speaker 1: to come out and get, you know, on the line
- 29:48Speaker 1: on these receivers. If Alabama has one of the best
- 29:52Speaker 1: secondaries in the country, and I know Zabian went out,
- 29:56Speaker 1: But at some point, you can't give them that little
- 29:58Speaker 1: pass out three, four, five yards every time. It was
- 30:03Speaker 1: death by a thousand cuts watching them keep the football.
- 30:08Speaker 2: It's Georgia's offense. I mean, it's almost like they took
- 30:11Speaker 2: a page from it. Because, you know, Georgia just does
- 30:13Speaker 2: so many quick hitters right there to the outside. You know, two,
- 30:15Speaker 2: three yards. from scrimmage and then just effectively run the football.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Alabama never came up. It's just like extended runs the
- 30:21Speaker 2: whole time. They never came up. I'd rather get beat.
- 30:23Speaker 1: I'd rather get beat by a 30 to force that
- 30:26Speaker 1: quarterback to throw a 30-yard pass and beat your elite secondary.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Because you know he wasn't going to be able to
- 30:31Speaker 2: do that. And I give McIntyre credit. He ended up
- 30:34Speaker 2: turning it over twice. But, you know, in those circumstances,
- 30:37Speaker 2: he didn't play bad football.
- 30:38Speaker 1: And it was like they kept cutting to Heupel, and
- 30:39Speaker 1: Heupel was like, All right. If they're going to let
- 30:42Speaker 1: us do that, let's keep it. If they're nine yards
- 30:44Speaker 1: off of you, just don't have to. Let's stay in
- 30:45Speaker 1: this column right here, boys. We're not even going to
- 30:47Speaker 1: have to change it. I mean, credit Hypel for looking
- 30:50Speaker 1: at that and being like, if they're not going to
- 30:52Speaker 1: take it away from us, why overthink this?
- 30:53Speaker 2: Now, hey, George, never mind. They're still nine yards off
- 30:56Speaker 2: of you over there. That's right.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Let's don't overthink this. I've got an inexperienced quarterback. I
- 30:59Speaker 1: thought Hypel coached a masterful game. And I thought Knowles
- 31:04Speaker 1: coached an even more masterful game. That was Hypel. Took
- 31:07Speaker 1: what Alabama said, we're going to let you do. And
- 31:10Speaker 1: he said, I think we can beat you doing that.
- 31:11Speaker 1: And they did. And Knowles took away what Alabama wanted
- 31:15Speaker 1: to do. I mean, when you could do that on
- 31:17Speaker 1: both sides of the football, Alabama had zero shot at
- 31:19Speaker 1: winning that game. That was just Tennessee was the better team.
- 31:22Speaker 1: They were better coach team. They played harder than Alabama.
- 31:25Speaker 1: They had a better scheme than Alabama. They out-physicaled Alabama.
- 31:29Speaker 1: They out-performed Alabama.
- 31:30Speaker 2: They out-schemed. I don't even know what else I need
- 31:33Speaker 2: to say.
- 31:33Speaker 1: I mean, Tennessee dominated that game. That score does not
- 31:36Speaker 1: indicate how much Tennessee dominated.
- 31:38Speaker 2: That football game.
- 31:38Speaker 3: I agree.
- 31:38Speaker 2: It was a 45-10 line. That's absolutely right. I remember
- 31:42Speaker 2: we were in the middle of doing Around the World
- 31:44Speaker 2: at Tennessee Shine, but I did bring up the fact,
- 31:46Speaker 2: how different is the perception of both of these teams
- 31:50Speaker 2: if Tennessee can get a win? And not only a win,
- 31:52Speaker 2: really a dominant win the way it ended up playing out.
- 31:54Speaker 2: I mean, you look at the rest of their road.
- 31:56Speaker 2: It has changed the perception for Tennessee.
- 31:58Speaker 1: From the first two drives on, I never thought Alabama
- 32:01Speaker 1: was going to win that game. The first two Alabama
- 32:04Speaker 1: drives or Tennessee drives? The first two Alabama drives.
- 32:06Speaker 2: I kind of was saying the same thing. I never
- 32:08Speaker 2: really believed that Alabama was going to be able to
- 32:10Speaker 2: win the game.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I'll tell you where I thought Tennessee had found themselves
- 32:13Speaker 1: in a little bit of trouble was you had gotten
- 32:17Speaker 1: every break go your way and you're only up 9-0.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Then Russell makes it 9-7. Is that right? And then
- 32:23Speaker 1: they're driving and they choose to go for it instead
- 32:26Speaker 1: of kick the field goal, right? I guess it was
- 32:28Speaker 1: 12-7 or whatever it was at the time. And they
- 32:30Speaker 1: choose to go for it instead of kick the field goal.
- 32:32Speaker 1: And I didn't hate the call. I mean, that's kind
- 32:34Speaker 1: of Kalen DeBoer's deal. When you go for it, when
- 32:36Speaker 1: you face a fourth and short, he goes for a
- 32:38Speaker 1: lot of those. But your guard steps on your quarterback's foot.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Your quarterback can't completely turn. He gets the ball high
- 32:43Speaker 1: up on the pads for Daniel Hill, who then doesn't
- 32:46Speaker 1: have the ball in Tennessee, gets the turnover. If Bama
- 32:48Speaker 1: converts that fourth down, I thought Tennessee was going to
- 32:50Speaker 1: be in for a fight right there. But once they
- 32:51Speaker 1: got that, they never looked back. I wrote a note,
- 32:54Speaker 1: and we'll hear from Kalen DeBoer in a second and
- 32:56Speaker 1: Josh Heupel, but I wrote a note that said couldn't
- 32:59Speaker 1: get off the field. But then when I looked at
- 33:01Speaker 1: the stats, it was more that Alabama couldn't stay on
- 33:03Speaker 1: the field.
- 33:04Speaker 2: That's right. They couldn't get off.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Six of 15, one of one on fourth down was
- 33:08Speaker 1: what Tennessee was. So, I mean, those were key drives.
- 33:14Speaker 1: That one drive in the second half that was– Alabama
- 33:17Speaker 1: fans call it murder ball.
- 33:18Speaker 2: They used to have one. Joyless murder ball.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Yeah, when Alabama was dominant. That's what Tennessee did on
- 33:23Speaker 1: that 15-play, 82-yard drive for a touchdown. They hit up
- 33:26Speaker 1: most of the game, and that was the death knell.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Well, and the problem for Alabama, you know, with the
- 33:31Speaker 2: 12 first downs, if you can't effectively run the football
- 33:35Speaker 2: and get into these third manageables, the reason they're 2
- 33:37Speaker 2: of 13 on third downs. That's right, and that's it.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Alabama was 2 of 13 on third downs and 1
- 33:42Speaker 1: of 3 on fourth downs. So they couldn't stay on
- 33:45Speaker 1: the field. And you nailed it, LT. Alabama's offense is
- 33:48Speaker 1: all based on play action. If they don't have that
- 33:52Speaker 1: play action working, that's why it was averaging 45 points
- 33:55Speaker 1: a game. And they never made Tennessee think.
- 33:58Speaker 2: About the run game. Well, imagine this. And look, I mean,
- 34:01Speaker 2: the way this season's played out, I'm sure Tennessee's going
- 34:03Speaker 2: to lose in Columbia against South Carolina this weekend. But
- 34:05Speaker 2: if they win that game, how big... Is Kentucky at
- 34:09Speaker 2: Tennessee in three weeks? Never thought. I know that sounds crazy.
- 34:13Speaker 2: I know it is not crazy at all. But all
- 34:14Speaker 2: Kentucky's got in front is Vanderbilt at home. I mean,
- 34:17Speaker 2: they should win that. I'm not going to say impossible.
- 34:19Speaker 2: Should win that. But if Tennessee can get by South Carolina,
- 34:21Speaker 2: that's one of those maybe game day shows up for.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Lance, it might be a first spot in the playoffs.
- 34:26Speaker 1: I mean, I cannot believe we're saying this about Kentucky
- 34:28Speaker 1: and you're one under Will Stein. But the way he's
- 34:30Speaker 1: done that, you look at the rest of that path
- 34:32Speaker 1: for Tennessee, though. That's a playoff football team. I think
- 34:34Speaker 1: Tennessee's in your college football playoffs. With terrible quarterback. Yeah,
- 34:38Speaker 1: I mean, they're not going to have great quarterback play,
- 34:39Speaker 1: but I do think they can get it home at
- 34:42Speaker 1: 10-2 there. Yeah, but what's sad about that for the
- 34:44Speaker 1: SEC's reputation is I don't think they can win a
- 34:47Speaker 1: playoff game when they get there.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Oh, you're right.
- 34:49Speaker 1: They're probably going to have to go on the road.
- 34:50Speaker 1: And I don't think Kentucky can either if Kentucky gets there.
- 34:53Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm not going to doubt Kentucky anymore.
- 34:55Speaker 2: They've got some kind of magical cloud hovering over them.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Yeah, never could Tennessee or Kentucky win a playoff game
- 35:01Speaker 1: if they get there. I'm going to turn it to
- 35:03Speaker 1: you on the absolutes. Okay, Alabama loses. Here's Kalen DeBoer
- 35:08Speaker 1: afterwards on the offensive struggles the last two weeks.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Again, there's got to.
- 35:14Speaker 9: Be some continuity in a run game that is– going
- 35:18Speaker 9: to set up some opportunities for us to be able
- 35:20Speaker 9: to have our whole offense available. In the end, it's
- 35:23Speaker 9: hard to drive the ball play after play for three
- 35:26Speaker 9: or four yards at a play at our drive, especially
- 35:29Speaker 9: if you have some penalties on top of it and
- 35:33Speaker 9: end up in the end zone. We've got to make
- 35:35Speaker 9: sure we continue to hone in on some of the
- 35:38Speaker 9: things that we're really good at and execute because that's
- 35:42Speaker 9: where you can get your chunk plays and that's where
- 35:45Speaker 9: The explosive athletes and players can go get the job done.
- 35:48Speaker 9: To me, I don't know what the explosives were for today,
- 35:52Speaker 9: but again, the run game sets that up, so you've
- 35:55Speaker 9: got to have a little bit of both feeding off
- 35:57Speaker 9: of each other. When we've been rolling as an offense,
- 36:00Speaker 9: usually both of those things are in sync and working together.
- 36:04Speaker 1: I would ask Coach DeBoer if he would check with
- 36:07Speaker 1: his offensive coordinator on the script one time and say, hey,
- 36:10Speaker 1: If that run game is that important, do we plan
- 36:12Speaker 1: on the first two drives when we're reading from the
- 36:14Speaker 1: script to try to run the ball at all? Are
- 36:16Speaker 1: we going to hand it off to Daniel Hill or
- 36:18Speaker 1: Treshawn Brown on the first two drives? I think I'm
- 36:21Speaker 1: right about that. Go back and watch the tape. I
- 36:22Speaker 1: don't think they handed it to a running back either time.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Do you want an amazing rundown of what you're calling
- 36:28Speaker 1: the script? And this came from Roll Tide Rewind.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Have you seen this? I have.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Roll Tide Rewind on social media, and I'm going to
- 36:37Speaker 1: assume he did his work. I have not double-checked him,
- 36:39Speaker 1: but when I read this to you, I think you're
- 36:41Speaker 1: going to say, sounds legitimate, right? Last 14 games against
- 36:45Speaker 1: Power 4 teams. Here are the first drive results, so
- 36:47Speaker 1: you're on the script if you're Alabama. First drive results,
- 36:50Speaker 1: last 14 games, Power 4 teams. Turnover, turnover, 48-yard touchdown drive.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Three and out, three and out, turnover, turnover, punt, three
- 36:57Speaker 1: and out, three and out, punt, three and out, turnover
- 36:59Speaker 1: on downs, three and out.
- 37:01Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 37:03Speaker 1: That's absolutely astounding, if that is accurate, that they've had
- 37:08Speaker 1: one scoring drive and 14 opening drives and one, two, three, four,
- 37:15Speaker 1: four turnovers, a turnover on downs, a bunch of three
- 37:17Speaker 1: and outs and some points.
- 37:18Speaker 2: So where are you guys on Alabama moving forward? Because
- 37:21Speaker 2: when you look at the schedule, again, all these games
- 37:24Speaker 2: are losable. But A & M should be a win.
- 37:27Speaker 1: 14.5-point favorite, Alabama.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Yeah, Vanderbilt should be a win. Chattanooga should be a win.
- 37:31Speaker 2: I still think Auburn should be a win. It seems
- 37:34Speaker 2: like at LSU is kind of the game, isn't it?
- 37:37Speaker 2: For a playoff spot, you think?
- 37:39Speaker 1: Yeah, both teams will be coming off of a bye week.
- 37:42Speaker 1: LSU has a trip to Jordan-Hare Stadium in one of
- 37:45Speaker 1: the biggest games in the country this week where the
- 37:48Speaker 1: Bayou Tigers are 8.5-point favorites over the Plainsmen Tigers, the
- 37:53Speaker 1: ones down from Auburn. I wrote myself into.
- 37:57Speaker 2: A corner there. The Leonard's lose us.
- 37:59Speaker 1: LSU minus eight and a half favorites over Auburn down
- 38:02Speaker 1: at Jordan-Hare Stadium, 11 o'clock on.
- 38:04Speaker 2: ABC this week.
- 38:06Speaker 1: As the will of destiny continues in the SEC this year. Yeah,
- 38:10Speaker 1: I just, they've got a play-calling problem. So I don't know.
- 38:13Speaker 1: The weird thing, Alabama's, I don't know if there's a
- 38:17Speaker 1: team in the SEC who's Floor and ceiling have a
- 38:20Speaker 1: bigger gap.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 38:22Speaker 1: That's well put. I mean, I really rack my brain
- 38:26Speaker 1: this way. Florida's maybe.
- 38:28Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Florida's floor and ceiling may have a bigger gap than Alabama's.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Their floor being at Missouri, their ceiling being in Austin.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Yeah, but we've seen Alabama on both sides of the
- 38:36Speaker 2: ball look dominant at times. Still, the Florida defense still
- 38:39Speaker 2: very much. That's true.
- 38:40Speaker 1: So maybe Alabama's overall floor to ceiling is the biggest
- 38:42Speaker 1: gap in the SEC. Their worst game versus their best game.
- 38:45Speaker 1: They don't even look like the same football team. I
- 38:47Speaker 1: said this yesterday on SiriusXM, but true story. A friend
- 38:50Speaker 1: of mine I worked with in Lexington who's a huge
- 38:53Speaker 1: Kentucky fan. Huge Kentucky fan. He texted me Saturday night
- 38:58Speaker 1: and he said, hey, would you get your Alabama team
- 39:01Speaker 1: in line? I don't want that loss to end up
- 39:03Speaker 1: being bad for our resume.
- 39:06Speaker 2: It's Alabama's best win right now. Isn't that crazy?
- 39:09Speaker 1: And he was like, you guys have to get your
- 39:11Speaker 1: act together. I don't want that loss to Alabama to
- 39:14Speaker 1: kill us at our resume. No, that really is their
- 39:16Speaker 1: best win.
- 39:17Speaker 2: It's Alabama's best win. It's at Kentucky. It's crazy as
- 39:19Speaker 2: that is.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I laughed out loud and I said, I've already moved
- 39:22Speaker 1: to basketball season.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Get off my phone. Yeah. The Kentucky fans are like,
- 39:26Speaker 2: can we wait on basketball? I don't want to watch
- 39:28Speaker 2: that again. All right.
- 39:30Speaker 1: This is Sporting State brought to you by Hard Rock Pet.
- 39:32Speaker 1: When we come back, these guys make their next choice
- 39:36Speaker 1: as we bounce around the rest of college football. And
- 39:39Speaker 1: I'll stick by it. Not sounding like Abe Lincoln at
- 39:42Speaker 1: the theater, but. other than my team getting shot in
- 39:45Speaker 1: the back of the head. I enjoyed the play. I
- 39:47Speaker 1: think it was Mary Todd that said that. It was
- 39:50Speaker 1: a good point.
- 39:51Speaker 2: When did they get that interview name? I think Mary
- 39:54Speaker 2: Todd was asked that. That was a scoop. Yeah.
- 39:57Speaker 10: All right.
- 39:58Speaker 2: When we come back, more college football. It's the next round. Hey,
- 40:01Speaker 2: before I tell you about Crockett Coffee.
- 40:03Speaker 1: And I'm finishing up a version of it right now,
- 40:05Speaker 1: a little medium roast, I want you to hear Josh
- 40:08Speaker 1: Heupel here, the Tennessee head coach after the win. Because
- 40:12Speaker 1: if you follow, if you're around the country watching us
- 40:14Speaker 1: and you're not familiar with SEC football, the belief for
- 40:18Speaker 1: Alabama fans is always that Jordan-Hare Stadium is haunted and
- 40:22Speaker 1: it's got just, you know, whatever. It's just tough to
- 40:25Speaker 1: win there for Alabama. Well, they've now won three straight
- 40:28Speaker 1: at Jordan-Hare Stadium. It is now Neyland Stadium where they've
- 40:31Speaker 1: lost three straight times after a 15-year win streak. They've
- 40:36Speaker 1: lost three straight games at Neyland. And here's Josh Heupel,
- 40:39Speaker 1: who's brought all three of those wins to Tennessee.
- 40:43Speaker 10: Go back to the first one, you know, all the
- 40:45Speaker 10: buildup lead up to it. And now there's an expectation.
- 40:51Speaker 10: That's what you do when you're playing these guys. And
- 40:55Speaker 10: it's been fun building this. There's been days where, you know,
- 40:59Speaker 10: we want different outcomes. But this is, without a doubt,
- 41:02Speaker 10: the best fan base in America. They show up in
- 41:06Speaker 10: an elite way every Saturday. Special to be here, walking
- 41:10Speaker 10: off that field in a situation like tonight where you win.
- 41:14Speaker 10: Those are things that I'll remember forever, too.
- 41:16Speaker 1: You have referenced this several times on the air, Brownie,
- 41:21Speaker 1: of a conversation that you asked a question to Kalen
- 41:24Speaker 1: DeBoer about his first game at Neyland Stadium where You
- 41:28Speaker 1: always talk about he admitted they really weren't prepared for
- 41:32Speaker 1: the crowd, and they didn't look prepared for the crowd again.
- 41:34Speaker 1: That atmosphere was bonkers. Yeah, I was thinking about that
- 41:37Speaker 1: watching the game, in fact, that that appears to be
- 41:40Speaker 1: his kryptonite playing at Neyland. He has had two bad,
- 41:44Speaker 1: bad plans in that stadium. It has not worked. Whatever
- 41:47Speaker 1: he is doing to prepare for their trip to that stadium.
- 41:51Speaker 1: You know, Alabama always has a lot of pretty snap
- 41:53Speaker 1: penalties with Grubbs offense. They have never fixed that. That
- 41:56Speaker 1: has been constant with Grubb's offense. But it gets worse
- 42:01Speaker 1: at Neyland Stadium with that crowd noise.
- 42:02Speaker 2: I could, just sitting on our couch, you could tell
- 42:06Speaker 2: how deafening it was. Now, I haven't talked to anybody
- 42:08Speaker 2: that went to the game. I don't know if you
- 42:10Speaker 2: guys have. It had to have been insane. It was
- 42:12Speaker 2: weird because, you know, we're only... 25, 30 miles away
- 42:16Speaker 2: from Neyland. But an eternity in a drive. Yeah, I mean,
- 42:19Speaker 2: that was the thing. Once we saw traffic, there was
- 42:21Speaker 2: no chance we were going to try to make that
- 42:22Speaker 2: commute over. But I didn't actually talk to anybody that
- 42:25Speaker 2: went to the game. But I could just tell that
- 42:27Speaker 2: was the loudest. If you can actually equate what that
- 42:31Speaker 2: volume is on your couch, that was the loudest I
- 42:34Speaker 2: can ever remember sitting on a couch thinking, damn, that
- 42:36Speaker 2: is loud.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Loudest they've ever heard it. And it seems like I
- 42:40Speaker 1: get that a lot these days. But loudest I've ever
- 42:42Speaker 1: heard it is what I got from a couple of
- 42:44Speaker 1: people And I said, louder than 2022? And they were like,
- 42:48Speaker 1: it seemed louder than 2022. And I was like, 2022
- 42:51Speaker 1: is one of the loudest stadiums of all time. Sean
- 42:53Speaker 1: McDonough even referenced how crazy it was in there. Good
- 42:56Speaker 1: win for Tennessee. These guys make their selection of picks
- 43:01Speaker 1: coming up here, and we bounce around the country. But
- 43:03Speaker 1: our friends at Crockett Coffee want to tell you it's
- 43:06Speaker 1: a great way to start your day, a nice cup
- 43:08Speaker 1: of small batch roasted coffee. A small batch roasted right
- 43:12Speaker 1: here in America. It's Crockett Coffee. The coffee started by

- 43:23Speaker 2: It's my favorite.

- 43:38Speaker 1: It's going to help out others. Crockett partners with Tunnel
- 43:41Speaker 1: to Towers. That builds mortgage-free homes for the families of
- 43:44Speaker 1: fallen service members. So enjoy good coffee made in America
- 43:48Speaker 1: that does some good.
- 43:49Speaker 2: It's CrockettCoffee.com. CrockettCoffee.com.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Before LT makes his pick, I will just tell you
- 43:55Speaker 1: this about the SEC so far. And listen, I couldn't
- 44:00Speaker 1: include everybody. People are giving me a hard time. You
- 44:02Speaker 1: left off this win, Jim. You left off this win.
- 44:04Speaker 1: I said, I'm just making a point about a will
- 44:06Speaker 1: of destiny the SEC has become.
- 44:09Speaker 2: To go full.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Circle now, I'll start with Texas and end up with
- 44:12Speaker 1: Texas losing, okay?
- 44:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Texas beat Tennessee. Tennessee beat Auburn. Auburn beat Georgia. Georgia
- 44:20Speaker 1: beat Alabama. Alabama beat Kentucky. Kentucky beat LSU. LSU beat
- 44:25Speaker 1: Mississippi State. Mississippi State beat Missouri. Missouri beat Florida. Florida
- 44:30Speaker 1: beat Texas. It's a full circle.
- 44:33Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Some of those outcomes in there just make zero sense.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Again, you wanted that NFL light with the expanded playoffs
- 44:40Speaker 2: and everything. You got it. If that's what people wanted,
- 44:42Speaker 2: that's what they've gotten.
- 44:43Speaker 1: I left off Florida beating Ole Miss or Tennessee beating Alabama.
- 44:48Speaker 1: But to make the full circle there, I went with
- 44:50Speaker 1: those selections there. You make a selection of a game
- 44:53Speaker 1: you saw this weekend. It doesn't have to be in
- 44:54Speaker 1: the SEC. It can be anywhere in the country.
- 44:56Speaker 2: I'm going to go Florida-Texas because that was another one
- 44:59Speaker 2: of those. I was like, Florida took a nosedive. Up
- 45:02Speaker 2: until last weekend with Auburn beating Georgia, the most shocking
- 45:06Speaker 2: outcome to me was South Carolina rolling into the swamp
- 45:08Speaker 2: and doing what they did to Florida. And then what
- 45:11Speaker 2: does Florida do? They go on the road as a
- 45:12Speaker 2: double-digit favorite, and they beat Texas twice. You can't trust Texas' offense. Hell,
- 45:18Speaker 2: I don't know who you can trust now in college football,
- 45:20Speaker 2: but what a win for John Summerall because it really
- 45:23Speaker 2: had seemed after getting destroyed by Missouri and then getting
- 45:27Speaker 2: gashed at home by Lenora Sellers in that South Carolina offense,
- 45:30Speaker 2: it looked like they were dead and buried at 4-2,
- 45:33Speaker 2: and then they're able to come back and win this game.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Unfortunately for our friend John Summerall, in SEC play, everybody
- 45:38Speaker 1: has gotten right offensively against that Florida defense. Every team
- 45:43Speaker 1: they've played, like Auburn, to this point, before they played Georgia,
- 45:47Speaker 1: had maybe their best offensive night of the season against
- 45:49Speaker 1: that Florida defense.
- 45:50Speaker 2: And I said it all week. I thought Texas, this
- 45:52Speaker 2: is where the offense would get right.
- 45:54Speaker 1: South Carolina couldn't beat anybody. They go into Florida, they
- 45:57Speaker 1: got their best game of the season against that Florida defense. Missouri,
- 46:00Speaker 1: probably their best offensive game of the season against that.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Everybody's moving on Florida's defense until you get to Arch
- 46:05Speaker 1: Manning and Texas. And they could not move it in
- 46:08Speaker 1: the second half on them.
- 46:08Speaker 2: It was crazy. One drive.
- 46:10Speaker 1: That went longer than 20 yards in the second half.
- 46:13Speaker 2: I mean, it was insane.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Insane how ineffective they were against that Florida defense in
- 46:18Speaker 1: the second half. 90th defense in the country is what
- 46:20Speaker 1: Florida was.
- 46:21Speaker 2: Everybody's moving it on. Well, you know, I watch Arch
- 46:25Speaker 2: in the pocket. And look, Florida had five sacks, but
- 46:29Speaker 2: I think a lot of those are Arch's fault. He's
- 46:31Speaker 2: just holding the ball too long? Yeah, I mean, I
- 46:33Speaker 2: just haven't seen Florida's secondary play that well this year.
- 46:36Speaker 2: And you got all those great receivers. You got great receivers.
- 46:38Speaker 2: It's very, very strange. And when you just look at
- 46:41Speaker 2: the pure box score of Arch, he had multiple turnovers
- 46:44Speaker 2: because he only had the one turnover with the lost fumble.
- 46:46Speaker 2: But 14-20, 173, almost nine yards at attempt, a touchdown,
- 46:50Speaker 2: no picks. The numbers aren't terrible when you watch him.
- 46:52Speaker 2: It looks, aesthetically, it's just not good.
- 46:55Speaker 7: That's right.
- 46:56Speaker 2: You look at the stat line, only six incomplete passes.
- 46:58Speaker 3: Yep.
- 46:59Speaker 2: One touchdown, no interceptions. Under the yards. There you go.
- 47:02Speaker 1: That's a man not making any mistakes.
- 47:04Speaker 2: But what were the yards?
- 47:05Speaker 3: 173?
- 47:05Speaker 2: Yeah. And you're like, he's just not pushing the ball
- 47:08Speaker 2: down the field. How many completions?
- 47:09Speaker 1: 14 of 20. 14 completions, 173 yards. He's not pushing
- 47:13Speaker 1: the ball down the field. It's empty calories. He's getting completions,
- 47:18Speaker 1: and they're not doing.
- 47:18Speaker 2: Anything for you. Now, we finally saw that Kyle Winningham
- 47:21Speaker 2: said enough is enough, and Bryce Underwood's out. and Arch
- 47:25Speaker 2: is not playing to the level Bryce Underwood is, but
- 47:27Speaker 2: do you think that he's got the ball, Sark, to
- 47:30Speaker 2: actually bench Arch Manning?
- 47:31Speaker 1: I've got sound on that. Let's listen to John Summerall
- 47:34Speaker 1: first on the win, and then we'll go to cut
- 47:36Speaker 1: 10 after this, Tyler, that answers LT's question. But here's
- 47:40Speaker 1: Summerall after the win against Florida, back ranked to No.
- 47:43Speaker 1: 20 in the country, and back in the playoff discussion
- 47:46Speaker 1: with a bye week in Georgia waiting.
- 47:50Speaker 11: I think if we've learned anything about this in this
- 47:52Speaker 11: game or in life, you don't get to go, yeah,
- 47:53Speaker 11: it was good last week.
- 47:54Speaker 2: So I get to be good next week.
- 47:55Speaker 5: Right.
- 47:56Speaker 11: I guess part of why we got our ass kicked
- 47:58Speaker 11: in Missouri and at last week at home, it's because we,
- 48:01Speaker 11: everybody around Gainesville was petting our guys in the back
- 48:04Speaker 11: to them, how good they were. And I'm like, guys,
- 48:05Speaker 11: we suck. Like I've watched his practice. We're not very good.
- 48:09Speaker 11: We still suck. We just sucked less.
- 48:11Speaker 2: All right.
- 48:13Speaker 11: And so we have to figure out how to suck
- 48:14Speaker 11: less each week, but we're not, we're not like a
- 48:18Speaker 11: complete team yet. Like this is, So it does nothing
- 48:21Speaker 11: for us. What it does for us, it gets us
- 48:24Speaker 11: another win. But the thing it does more than a
- 48:27Speaker 11: ranked win or a road win or whatever those stats are,
- 48:31Speaker 11: what it does for me, it gives me belief and
- 48:32Speaker 11: hope that our guys understand you have to fight your
- 48:35Speaker 11: tail off every time you play the game. It doesn't
- 48:38Speaker 11: matter who you play, where you play, when you play.
- 48:40Speaker 2: You have to fight.
- 48:41Speaker 11: And if you do not fight, you will get embarrassed.
- 48:43Speaker 11: This league, man, like there's nowhere to hide. Week in,
- 48:47Speaker 11: week out, it's the closest thing you got to the NFL.
- 48:50Speaker 11: And you got to bring it every freaking Saturday. And
- 48:52Speaker 11: I'm just glad our guys brought it.
- 48:53Speaker 2: And Turmel Jones. I mean, I got to give him credit.
- 48:55Speaker 2: It wasn't like fun to watch, but he didn't make
- 48:57Speaker 2: any mistakes. He was, he was efficient. We didn't, we
- 49:00Speaker 2: didn't bring it up yet. Backup.
- 49:01Speaker 1: They went on the road at Texas with a backup quarterback.
- 49:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 49:04Speaker 2: Even more surprised. And I give Buster Faulkner credit because
- 49:06Speaker 2: they continue to stick with Jaden Baugh. You know, Baugh
- 49:09Speaker 2: is the engine that drives that train and 25 carries
- 49:13Speaker 2: it took to get to 91 yards, but it was just,
- 49:16Speaker 2: it was efficient and it kept Texas off the field
- 49:19Speaker 2: and and you know I mean and boss seems.
- 49:22Speaker 1: Like he's back a little bit yeah and to your
- 49:24Speaker 1: point uh in Alabama fans will will wish they had
- 49:28Speaker 1: this but they kept running it 25 carries to get
- 49:31Speaker 1: 91 yards but it freed up when he didn't run
- 49:34Speaker 1: it to play action to do something else for uh
- 49:37Speaker 1: for Jones to run it, for them to hit Singleton
- 49:40Speaker 1: on a short play.
- 49:41Speaker 2: By the way, no Vernell Brown again. So your best
- 49:43Speaker 2: receiver is out, and Singleton finally did get involved with
- 49:46Speaker 2: the seven grabs.
- 49:47Speaker 1: So no QB one, no wide receiver one.
- 49:50Speaker 2: And you go on the road and you beat that
- 49:51Speaker 2: Texas defense.
- 49:52Speaker 1: Speaking of Texas, you wanted a question about Arch Manning.
- 49:55Speaker 1: He gets that question, would you bench Arch? Everything's under evaluation.
- 49:59Speaker 1: Here's Steve Sarkeesian on Arch Manning. Could he be benched?
- 50:04Speaker 2: Steve, it looked like you had open receivers out there.
- 50:08Speaker 1: Did you think of making a change.
- 50:11Speaker 9: With Arch just to try to get something going, and
- 50:14Speaker 9: what did you see out there?
- 50:16Speaker 6: I just felt like we didn't play good offensive football,
- 50:19Speaker 6: and we're not playing great offensive football right now, so
- 50:22Speaker 6: everything is going to be evaluated.
- 50:24Speaker 9: When you aren't reaching your potential, like you said, how
- 50:26Speaker 9: do you balance changes to personnel or things like that versus.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Improving what you have already part.
- 50:33Speaker 9: Of the evaluation.
- 50:34Speaker 6: We need to figure that out It'd be easy for
- 50:36Speaker 6: me to say hey arch was the problem today was
- 50:38Speaker 6: arch perfect No, but nobody was perfect on offense today.
- 50:42Speaker 6: We took turns today and and that's where I have
- 50:45Speaker 6: to look at every aspect of what we're doing because
- 50:49Speaker 6: It's easy if it was one person to be easy
- 50:51Speaker 6: you change one guy and everything's gonna be great that
- 50:53Speaker 6: well that I don't think that that was all the
- 50:55Speaker 6: issue today could he have been better no doubt about it,
- 50:58Speaker 6: but there's a there's some other issues that need to
- 51:00Speaker 6: be addressed and.
- 51:01Speaker 1: And Pete Thamel, this morning, and it's been followed up
- 51:04Speaker 1: by Chip Brown, who you heard asking that very first
- 51:06Speaker 1: question about benching Arch Manning, Texas is expected to give
- 51:10Speaker 1: an uptick in first-team quarterback reps to redshirt freshman K.J.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Lacy this week in practice.
- 51:15Speaker 2: Okay, K.J. Lacy, the guy in waiting. He's had eight
- 51:18Speaker 2: attempts this year, seven of eight. It's better than ours. Yeah.
- 51:24Speaker 1: But your question then becomes, well, if everybody was down
- 51:27Speaker 1: a little bit, what about you, Sark? you're evaluating everything.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Great question here. Are you evaluating yourself as the play caller,
- 51:38Speaker 1: Steve Sarkeesian?
- 51:40Speaker 11: What's the process like as a head coach, stepping back
- 51:43Speaker 11: and evaluating yourself as a play caller?
- 51:45Speaker 2: What goes into that after a game like this?
- 51:48Speaker 6: The process is the same process that I use every week.
- 51:51Speaker 6: I evaluate everything that we do from the game plan
- 51:54Speaker 6: itself to the play calls themselves to who was touching
- 51:57Speaker 6: the ball to how did we block to What do
- 52:00Speaker 6: we call specific situations to how did every individual perform?
- 52:05Speaker 6: Myself included. I don't take it personally evaluating myself. I'm
- 52:10Speaker 6: probably harder on myself than anybody. And I'll evaluate this
- 52:15Speaker 6: game the same way. And I'm sure there's going to
- 52:17Speaker 6: be situations I'm going to be really hard on myself
- 52:19Speaker 6: because we weren't good enough.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Well, your offensive coordinator is Kyle Flood, offensive line coach. Generally,
- 52:25Speaker 1: those guys are not calling plays. Your quarterback coach... is,
- 52:30Speaker 1: or your co-offensive coordinator and quarterback coach is A.J. Millwee, former,
- 52:34Speaker 1: he's an Alabama native, was on Nick Saban's staff as
- 52:37Speaker 1: a GA when Sark left. It's one of the guys
- 52:39Speaker 1: you took with him. So, I don't know, do you
- 52:42Speaker 1: involve those guys more? Do you hand it off to
- 52:44Speaker 1: one of those guys? Again, it always goes back, Lance,
- 52:47Speaker 1: to the whole reason we hired you was your offensive
- 52:49Speaker 1: play calling. We didn't hire you because you had an
- 52:51Speaker 1: amazing record as a head coach. In fact, it was
- 52:53Speaker 1: just the opposite. We hired you because when you were
- 52:56Speaker 1: calling plays in Tuscaloosa, everybody in the world said you
- 52:58Speaker 1: were the best offensive line in college football.
- 53:00Speaker 2: That's why we hired you. Now you've lost back-to-back games,
- 53:03Speaker 2: and you lost against a historically bad offense in Oklahoma,
- 53:06Speaker 2: and now a very, very shaky defense in Florida. And
- 53:09Speaker 2: moving forward, look, there's going to be three loss teams
- 53:11Speaker 2: that get in this year, but can they absorb just
- 53:15Speaker 2: one loss or less moving forward? Like, they look like
- 53:18Speaker 2: an 8-4 team to me. I don't know how you
- 53:20Speaker 2: guys feel. I mean, the schedule's not overly daunting. I mean,
- 53:22Speaker 2: they've got Ole Miss, Mississippi State at home, at Missouri,
- 53:28Speaker 2: at LSU, Arkansas, and at A & M. I just
- 53:30Speaker 2: don't know how you don't lose two more games. But
- 53:32Speaker 2: by Texas standards, that's a tough remaining part of the schedule.
- 53:35Speaker 2: I mean, it is. I don't know how they make
- 53:37Speaker 2: the college football playoffs, honestly. And can you imagine 9-3
- 53:39Speaker 2: was a massive disappointment last year? You go 9-3 to 8-4?
- 53:42Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, but 9-3, they'd get in probably. Yeah,
- 53:45Speaker 2: I would think that. Because they went over Ohio State.
- 53:47Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you what, starting KJ Lacey against Ole
- 53:49Speaker 1: Miss is a roll of the dice. I know it's
- 53:51Speaker 1: a home game for you. That Ole Miss team is
- 53:53Speaker 1: pistol hot coming in right now. Now, again, I don't
- 53:55Speaker 1: know what that means week to week anymore. They struggled defensively, though,
- 53:58Speaker 1: at times. At times, but that's 31-3 they beat Missouri, though.
- 54:03Speaker 2: You're playing Texas, so you might struggle defensively, but how
- 54:06Speaker 2: bad can it be?
- 54:07Speaker 1: They made the 90th best defense in Florida look pretty
- 54:10Speaker 1: darn good this past week. Hey, as Scott Forrester points out,
- 54:13Speaker 1: do you know who K.J. Lacy's stud wide receiver was
- 54:16Speaker 1: when he played high school football? I'd forgotten this part.
- 54:18Speaker 2: Who was it?
- 54:19Speaker 1: A little kid we like to call Ryan Williams. He's
- 54:21Speaker 1: a Sarah Lynn product. He and Ryan Williams are the
- 54:23Speaker 1: QB receiver combo.
- 54:24Speaker 2: How about that?
- 54:25Speaker 1: I think I remember when KJ decided to go to Texas,
- 54:27Speaker 1: I was like, why are you going to Texas? You'll
- 54:30Speaker 1: never play. And Alabama stuck with this Ty Simpson kid.
- 54:33Speaker 2: If he stays at Texas, he might be playing for
- 54:35Speaker 2: a new head coach. Yeah, he might be.
- 54:37Speaker 1: All right, Brown makes the next selection, and then we'll
- 54:40Speaker 1: go back to LT. I took up too much time
- 54:42Speaker 1: in the first hour. One more full hour to go,
- 54:44Speaker 1: and then another half of the next round. So we've
- 54:46Speaker 1: got three hours live with you here. on the next
- 54:48Speaker 1: round presented by Hard Rock Bet on Sporting State. We're
- 54:51Speaker 1: number two of the next round presented by Hard Rock
- 54:54Speaker 1: Bet on Sporting State. Let's just get right to it. Brownie,
- 54:58Speaker 1: your next selection. We can go anywhere in the country.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Let's go Ohio State, Indiana. That started the day with
- 55:04Speaker 1: what was not an upset. Ohio State was your favorite team.
- 55:07Speaker 1: But in terms of a team with the longest winning
- 55:10Speaker 1: streak in college football, playing at home, some would view
- 55:13Speaker 1: it as an upset, though it was not a betting
- 55:15Speaker 1: point spread upset. Indiana, I think some alarming trends with
- 55:20Speaker 1: them offensively at Nebraska struggled to move the football consistently.
- 55:26Speaker 1: Now you're playing Ohio State. That's quality, obviously. But again, Lance,
- 55:29Speaker 1: some struggles to score. against them, and they just weren't
- 55:32Speaker 1: always fluid offensively. You're starting to see some cracks in
- 55:35Speaker 1: that Indiana offense that has been so good over the
- 55:37Speaker 1: last year.
- 55:37Speaker 2: Yeah, a little bit. I mean, I'm not going to
- 55:38Speaker 2: panic on Indiana's offense because it was Ohio State, and look,
- 55:41Speaker 2: they should have walked it off. Nick Marsh is an
- 55:43Speaker 2: NFL wide receiver. Oh, he didn't get two feet down.
- 55:46Speaker 2: He knew you've got to be able to make the adjustment.
- 55:48Speaker 2: The ball's not thrown perfectly from Hoover, so it's over
- 55:51Speaker 2: his left shoulder, but the one thing you've got to
- 55:53Speaker 2: do is secure the catch, obviously, but get one foot inbounds,
- 55:57Speaker 2: and he knew immediately that foot wasn't inbounds, and it
- 56:00Speaker 2: was kind of weird because elite receivers are really really
- 56:03Speaker 2: good receivers are able to make that adjustment.
- 56:05Speaker 1: Yeah he's so close i mean so close on the
- 56:09Speaker 1: white it was wild hearing the crowd reaction and watching
- 56:12Speaker 1: his like the crowd goes nuts and he immediately his
- 56:15Speaker 1: hands to head like oh no i didn't get him
- 56:16Speaker 1: i didn't get a fox camera shot i mean yeah
- 56:18Speaker 1: you could see you see his eyeballs yeah yeah it
- 56:21Speaker 1: was so tight on him.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Yeah and hoover finally turned it over with the weird
- 56:24Speaker 2: fumble but.
- 56:25Speaker 1: Um Well, they had back-to-back, almost back-to-back turnovers. They had
- 56:29Speaker 1: not fumbled in 1,400 offensive plays, and then I think
- 56:32Speaker 1: it was two fumbles in 12 plays, which is, I guess,
- 56:35Speaker 1: in a sense, the floodgates opening.
- 56:37Speaker 2: Yeah, much like we said coming out of Alabama-Georgia, that
- 56:39Speaker 2: was two top five teams playing. I mean, Indiana's really good.
- 56:42Speaker 2: I mean, the offense isn't as good because you don't
- 56:45Speaker 2: have one of the great college football players of all time,
- 56:48Speaker 2: a Heisman winner, Fernando Mendoza. But, you know, Hoover is
- 56:51Speaker 2: good enough. The receivers, I mean, Charlie Becker had a
- 56:53Speaker 2: hell of a day against that Ohio State defense. In
- 56:56Speaker 2: Ohio State, even in the wind, what's going on right
- 56:59Speaker 2: now with Julian Sayet?
- 57:00Speaker 1: We'll talk about that here. I did want to point
- 57:02Speaker 1: out what Brown is saying, that back-to-back weeks. Last year
- 57:05Speaker 1: when Indiana was national champions at this point in Big
- 57:08Speaker 1: Ten play, they averaged 40 points a game. They're at
- 57:12Speaker 1: 21.3 in Big Ten play right now.
- 57:14Speaker 2: So that's way down. I did see them struggle on
- 57:17Speaker 2: the road against Iowa last year. They were able to
- 57:18Speaker 2: survive that game. I saw them struggle against Penn State.
- 57:21Speaker 2: They struggled against Ohio State offensively in the Big Ten
- 57:24Speaker 2: championship game, but still won it, so I'm not concerned
- 57:28Speaker 2: about Indiana.
- 57:29Speaker 1: Now, Ohio State has an injury to Julian San, who
- 57:33Speaker 1: did throw two interceptions. I don't think he played great.
- 57:36Speaker 1: In fact, I had a tweet ready to go. Now, remember,
- 57:37Speaker 1: this was pre- Alabama kicking it off against Tennessee. But
- 57:41Speaker 1: I was about to tweet out, I was upset when
- 57:44Speaker 1: Julian Sane left Alabama, but if he'd stayed, I don't
- 57:46Speaker 1: think he would have ever won the starting job. And
- 57:49Speaker 1: I still believe that to this day, that I don't
- 57:51Speaker 1: think he would have ever been the starting quarterback if
- 57:52Speaker 1: he'd stayed at Alabama. I mean, he had to beat
- 57:54Speaker 1: out Ty Simpson. He would have had to beat out
- 57:57Speaker 1: Keelan Russell. And then beat out Keelan Russell. There's certainly
- 58:00Speaker 1: no guarantee. But he is injured now, and he's out
- 58:03Speaker 1: several weeks. Here's Ryan Day on the wind and the
- 58:06Speaker 1: cost of that wind. 19-15, Buckeyes over Hoosiers.
- 58:11Speaker 7: Had to give Indiana a lot of credit. It's a
- 58:13Speaker 7: very good team, you know, to win 22 straight games
- 58:15Speaker 7: with those players. Charlie Becker was, you know, just played
- 58:18Speaker 7: out of his mind today. And defensively, you know, they
- 58:21Speaker 7: keep coming at you. But obviously the big points in
- 58:24Speaker 7: the game were some of the turnovers we created. You know,
- 58:27Speaker 7: we had an opportunity on offense. I felt like to
- 58:29Speaker 7: kind of separate a little bit. And, you know, we
- 58:31Speaker 7: didn't finish that one drive. We had to pick defensively.
- 58:35Speaker 7: But the fourth down, obviously, conversion with Jeremiah was a
- 58:38Speaker 7: giant play in the game. And at the end of
- 58:39Speaker 7: the half, finding a way and being resilient at the
- 58:41Speaker 7: last play to score there. So, you know, that was it.
- 58:46Speaker 7: It was a hard-fought game, and the guys never gave up.
- 58:49Speaker 7: You know, we wanted to be able to win a
- 58:50Speaker 7: game like this in the fourth quarter. And the last
- 58:52Speaker 7: couple weeks, I felt like we were able to do
- 58:54Speaker 7: that on offense, the run game. And this game, it
- 58:56Speaker 7: came down to the defense.
- 58:58Speaker 1: Now without them, without Julian Sane for a few weeks,
- 59:01Speaker 1: they've got a bye week and then USC, I believe.
- 59:04Speaker 1: Freshman Luke Fahey and five-star quarterback Tavian St.
- 59:08Speaker 4: Clair.
- 59:09Speaker 2: Know nothing about either one. I don't either.
- 59:11Speaker 1: Fahey's the guy that cleaned up the end of the
- 59:13Speaker 1: game for them. When you're throwing to Jeremiah Smith as
- 59:17Speaker 1: a backup, you're going to have a bit of an
- 59:18Speaker 1: advantage over most backups.
- 59:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I assume he's a really good player, but still
- 59:22Speaker 2: there's no experience. How long is it going to be?
- 59:25Speaker 2: Is it going to be two weeks? Is it going
- 59:27Speaker 2: to be three weeks? Because if it's three weeks... You
- 59:29Speaker 2: get the bye at SC and then Oregon. This thing
- 59:32Speaker 2: becomes really, really dangerous for Ohio State if it does
- 59:35Speaker 2: drift out a little bit longer.
- 59:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, we talked about how stunning it was
- 59:39Speaker 1: that Florida was able to win with their backup quarterback
- 59:41Speaker 1: at Texas. Had I told you going into this, Ohio
- 59:44Speaker 1: State's forced to play their backup at any moment in
- 59:46Speaker 1: the game, you would have been like, yeah, Indiana wins
- 59:47Speaker 1: that game. I mean, that took a lot of fortitude
- 59:50Speaker 1: for Ohio State to finish off that win.
- 59:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and they almost did.
- 59:53Speaker 1: That ends a 22-game win streak for Indiana. Pretty amazing
- 59:58Speaker 1: run there. For the Hoosiers.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: And I thought the Hoosiers did a pretty good job
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: on Jeremiah Smith. They did.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: That one play where basically they just throw it up
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: for his one touchdown.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: I mean, number one, completely played that thing wrong. That
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: should have been an easy pick.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: The safety was playing it like Jeremiah Smith wasn't there
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: and I'm going to be under it to catch it
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: for a touchback, right? By the way, Jeremiah Smith's there
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: and he goes up and gets it. Yeah, and I
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: could figure out what the safety was doing there.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: It wasn't awful coverage. And really, you go back to
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: special teams, you know, they missed two field goals. One
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: was short, but the first one they missed off the upright,
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: I mean, that was a chippy. You make that, then
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: you're going down to win the game on a field
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: goal instead of having to go to Mars. So, you know,
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: that game to me was really, really tight the entire time.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: I agree with you. And then Brown scoffed at me
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: and scolded me because I knew Ohio State was going
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: to win this game. You taught me how to play
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: in Indiana.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: You taught me how to play in Indiana. And I
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: was in Tennessee, so I played it at Hard Rock Bet.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: congratulations to both of you guys uh if you guys
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: never stay with us for the second half of the
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: next round we do an upset alert every tuesday oh
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: we do it and we do it during we're doing
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: in this show okay so you guys know um both
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: arkansas and tcu were outright winners this past week.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: Are those the only two that we got of the
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: five yes yeah sorry it's a bad week for us
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: we only got two out of five outright winners yeah
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: yeah i uh i i gave you cal who uh Ooh, 41-7.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: They're not gratefully dead, are they? They were not gratefully dead.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: I did too, Jim. Maybe we should do that again
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: this week. We should take the same game together. I
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: knew it was a loser as soon as you jumped up.
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: Of course. If you're Tosh Lapoi, you burn those uniforms.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: Yeah, never wear those again. Those are your Georgia blackouts. Yeah,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: you burn those in a hurry. Ungrateful dead is what
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: they were.
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: All right, LT, I'll let you pick next. You pick
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: another one, man. Let's go BYU-Notre Dame.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: I was hoping you'd do this. First off, before we
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: jump into this game, A hundred percent. And listen, I've
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: never cheered for Notre Dame a day in my life.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: A hundred percent that should have been pass interference.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: Any other point in the game it is, don't you think?
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: It's got to be there, too. He's not even playing
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: the ball. He runs through the receiver.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: Oh, no, it has to be there. But you know
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: they call it differently at the end for some reason.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: That is pass interference. unless it's maybe a particular SEC crew,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: that's pass interference every single time. I thought it was
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: just as obvious as the miss.
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: Don't you agree?
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: It was different points of the game. Not a last play. Well,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: it shouldn't have been a last play, but not what
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: was the last play. But it was, to me, just
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: as egregious as the Bama-Georgia one.
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: A little bit more hand-fighting.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: But then there was that one second still left on
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: the clock that everybody can see.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and I asked Brown yesterday, if it was roles reversed,
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: if it's BYU with ball in hand trying to get
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: the win, Is the one second granted?
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: It is.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: Yeah, the one second is 100% granted. It goes to replay.
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: Big 12 crew. Big 12 replay. Big 12 replay.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: That's why, I mean, you're not getting that call. That
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: is high school level... You know, we're playing out of
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: county and we've got a different crew. You know, Calhoun
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: County is having to go to Etowah County. You didn't
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: expect any calls there, right? I mean, that's exactly what
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: you got right there.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: How about Fowler and Herbstreit getting back-to-back controversials and OPIs? Like,
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: who do they have this weekend? We've got another one
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: coming up.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: I assume they've got Ole Miss, Texas.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Yeah. That was wild. I never really saw
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: that coming. I give BYU a lot of credit. I mean,
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: they know how to scratch and claw and– win for Satake,
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: there is nothing that looks good about it. Yeah.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: When you talk about winning for Satake, Kalani Satake is
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: now 29-4 over the past three seasons.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, that's got to be top three or
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: four right now in college football. I know that Ryan Day,
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: I would assume, and Kirk Cignetti. But I don't know
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: who else would have that kind of win. Best coach
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: we never talk about. I mean, when we start talking
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: great coaches, it takes us. You've championed him more than
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: either one of us. But even you, when we start, hey,
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: let's list our best coaches in college football. We don't
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: get to Kalani Satake very quickly. And the record says
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: we should get him. get to them quicker because that's
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: a difficult league to have that kind of record dangerous
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: game in the bounce house.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: Though right of course there is i mean it is
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: yeah i mean sadly it it is i did not
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: mark it as a uh as a big game but
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: Anytime you have a big one, you've got to come
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: down and play again.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: Well, they're only a six-and-a-half point favorite. That's screaming. Under
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: a touchdown on the road. Do you think anybody's going
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: to say, give me those Knights of Central Florida against
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: the number two team, catching less than a full seven?
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: I never give Bear Bachmeier enough credit as well.
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: He's still off, man.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: He was unbelievable because, again, they did not have LJ Martin.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: so it was more on Bear Bachmeier to do what
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: he has to do. Here is Bear Bachmeier on beating
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Notre Dame, and I didn't know he had this big
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: of an axe to grind. He had 224 yards and
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: a touchdown passing, and apparently along the way in the
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: recruiting process, Notre Dame didn't treat the Bachmeier family very well.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: Man, we're tired of being disrespected. I mean, we know
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: who we are, and... Man, this was a great win
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: for sure.
- 1:04:59Speaker 10: What's it like to be the quarterback of a field-storming
- 1:05:02Speaker 10: win tonight?
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: It's great, man, yeah. Kalani won't like this because I'm
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: talking about myself, but out of high school, Notre Dame
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: disrespected me and my family pretty badly, and I wasn't
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: going to lose to those guys. There was no way
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: I was going to lose to those guys tonight.
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: What happened? Just.
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I shouldn't have said that, but there were some
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: receipts kept, and, man, I'm glad we won. I got
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: to say one more thing. I love Notre Dame, and, yeah,
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: I was obviously getting emotional in that, but I love
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: CJ Carr, and, man, that's a good team.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: Well, he spent the rest of the press conference backtracking.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: He really, really did.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: I know you asked me about my family, but I
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: want to go back to what I said earlier.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: I'm Mormon, not Catholic, but they've got a great church.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: You guys can't see, but Kalani is stepping on my
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: toes right now, wanting me to say more nice things
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: about Notre Dame.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: Well, first top 10 win since 2018, so I understand
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: the field storm. And look, they kept Notre Dame from
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: being number one this week by beating them. But the
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: one thing, when I brought up Tennessee, Alabama, I didn't.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: I did want to say I thought it was really
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: embarrassing for Tennessee to storm the field. Why?
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: I thought it was ridiculous. They dominated the whole game.
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: They were 14th nationally. It's not like they're off the
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: complete radar. And they had already won back-to-backs in Neyland
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: over Alabama. Why do you run out on the field?
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: Have more pride.
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: I think it is... It's become the thing to do.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: That's right.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: It's perceived differently. And it's, it doesn't mean what it
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: used to mean. If you're a student, if you're this
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: Tennessee fans running out, if you're a student at Tennessee, um,
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: your whole time when we play Alabama and we beat Alabama,
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: it's just part of what we do. We all go
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: on the field and we smoke a cigar. I mean, that's,
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: it's become part of the rivalry now, uh, on that side, uh,
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: when Tennessee beats Alabama. Um, I'm not saying that every
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: time Auburn beats Alabama in the future at Jordan-Hare Stadium,
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: they'll rush to the field, but it would not surprise me.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: It's the end of the year. It's a rivalry win.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: There's just, I don't know, there's certain programs that don't
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: seem to do it. Yeah, well, I would say Tennessee's
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: not one of those programs. I guess not. I just thought,
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: you know, to show that it's not as big of
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: a deal.
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: It's almost like Alabama still lives in their head a
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: little bit because they win by 16 and still rush field.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: And I don't know how Alabama fans feel about it.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: The worst part is when they quit rushing the field
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: on you, by the way. That's when you know your
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: program has really fallen. So if you're an Alabama fan,
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: you hope it continues.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: Because you're going to lose football games. You hope it
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: means something like that.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: But I just think for this generation, and I'm not
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: going to say because of social media, but for this generation,
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: this field storm was saved for a major upset, big win, blah, blah, blah,
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: back in the day. I don't think it's that anymore.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: I think it's for Instagram. And to win over the rival, hey,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: we're going to run on the field. Let's all run
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: on the field. Now, it's a half million dollars that
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: Tennessee gets fined for doing it.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: Alabama can put that right in the NFL. Maybe I'm
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: in the minority where I thought it was a little strange.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: I was surprised they rushed the field, but I'm Lou Jim.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: I just don't think it's what it was when we
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: were growing up. It was reserved for big games. Now
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: it's reserved for let's go have fun and get some
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: IG moments.
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: Yeah. Worked out good for them. BYU, I understand.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: I mean, this is the biggest game ever played there
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: in Pro Bowl.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: Biggest game. No, there's no doubt about it. Oh, yeah.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: I get that 100%.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: So, as far as the way this game impacts the
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: college football playoff, I mean... Talking about BYU-Notre Dame. Notre
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: Dame now plays Miami, who's the number one team in
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: the nation currently.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: So what if they lose that?
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: I don't know what that means. I mean, you've got
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: to find 12 teams, and it's going to be increasingly
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: more difficult to find 12 teams. But who are Notre Dame's–
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: Notre Dame's in. They still have SMU out there. That
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: would be a quality win.
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: They're in at 10-2.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: I think they are in at 10-2, especially if they–
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: just what if they lose by 1 point, 2 point,
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: 3 points to Miami?
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and then if I– Yeah, if it's a tight
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: loss to Miami. And if I'm Marcus Freeman, I'm like,
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: you know, they're– one second left. We've got no pass interference.
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: That's a very, very difficult place to play. And it's
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: not like we're on the 30. We're on the 8.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: The 8, yes. And if they call pass interference, they
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: can give us another play on the 4 or the 2.
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: The 2, yeah.
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: Since I'm the 17, yeah. So, yeah, 10-2 they're in.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: What about BYU? Now, we talked about this last week.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Does this give BYU the leverage to, if they can
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: find a way to finish undefeated and lose their Big
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: 12 championship game to get in the playoffs? And I
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: think it probably does. Yeah, I mean, it's a quality win.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: And the Big 12 right now, forget who. I think
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: they've still got two losses in front of them. If
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: you're the number two team right now, they are undefeated.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: They're undefeated. If they end up 10-2 with a win
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: over Notre Dame.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: Even not being the Big 12 champion? I don't know
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: how they can lose to, again, anything can happen in
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: college football, and it probably will happen this week at
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: Central Florida. But even if they lose the Holy War,
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: which is shaping up to be a great game if
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: these teams continue to win, where are the other losses?
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Arizona State? Baylor? Kansas? Cincinnati?
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: I didn't write down on Bill Connolly, ESPN's SP, but
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: for the conferences, I don't know where the SEC is,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: but it's a big gap, SEC and then the Big Ten.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: But The Big Ten is 9.9 on the SP conference ranking.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: The Big 12 is 9.2. So I know the Big
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: Ten and the SEC own the college football playoffs, and
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: the folks on SiriusXM were a little taken aback yesterday
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: when I said regardless of record, there will be three
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: SEC teams in and three Big Ten teams in.
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: I believe that. We all believe that. What do you mean?
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: They own it. They own the playoffs. That's what I mean.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: But I think the BYU win– guaranteed there'll be two
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: Big 12 teams in.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: Well, I think there's, you know, we have shit on
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: Texas Tech. I think Oklahoma State's really good. Yeah. You know,
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: they're probably out of it now at 4-2. Utah's really good. Yeah, Arizona, Utah, BYU,
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: Texas Tech. I think Houston's pretty good. No, that's what
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: I said. Houston, yeah. I mean, Houston's 6-1. Oh, you're
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: saying Oklahoma State, yeah, because they lost Houston.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: 9-15 ESPN, Houston and Utah coming up this week.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Tremendous game. Game day's going to be there, right? There
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: in Salt Lake City. No, they're going back to Utah,
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: back to back. I think I saw that.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: I think I saw they're going. I didn't know that's
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: where they're going. So there's a chance that could be
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: the Fowler game.
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: Could be. That's a late game, though. 9-15. Will they
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: keep them up that late? We can nap. No, it's
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: going to be Ole Miss-Texas. I'll confirm. I'll confirm. They
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: want to holly on the field with Sark. Yeah. So
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: they wake up.
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: I can confirm that, who's doing that game. But I
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: think game day, I think I saw that yesterday, is
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: that they're there. Do you think the Big 12 is
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: deeper than the Big 10?
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: Top to bottom? I do. I do, too.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: I think the Big Ten's probably better at the top
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: with Indiana and Ohio State, for sure. But, Lance, I
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: think the Big 12's deeper than the Big Ten. They've
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: got more quality teams than the Big 12.
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: Maybe.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so, too.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: But everybody seems to be quality these days. So you
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: went Notre Dame-BYU. Okay, we did say that should have
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: been pass interference. 100%. Should have been one second left.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: I don't know why we keep not getting the clock right.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: What do you say about the clock?
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: It never changes.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: It drops one second at a time every single game
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: that has ever been played in college.
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: It's the most consistent thing in sports.
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: We talk so many variables. The most consistent thing is
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: the clock. Changes by a second every single point.
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: We were in transition at the end of the first
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: half of that game, but how did C.J. Carr mismanage
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: that with the fumbled spike? He was trying to clock it, right?
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: 100%.
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: And that's another.
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: That's another rule I don't understand that I feel like
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: Notre Dame got jobbed a little bit here. He 100%
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: loses grip of the ball as he's coming up to
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: spike it. So you can see it coming out of
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: his hand, and then he just sort of shoves it down,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: not gripping.
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: So he didn't throw it in the ground. He slammed
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: it in the ground. He sort of pushed it to
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: the ground.
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: But the whistles all blow. And they had points, right,
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: in pocket. Oh, yeah.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: They're basically at the one-yard line. So they're going to
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: clock it. and kick a chippy field goal or go
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: for it. They're going to make that call. So he's
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: clocking it, but he loses the grip and throws it down,
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: and they call, even though the whistle's blue, that one
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: BYU player who runs through 15 other players to dive
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: on the ball through legs. I thought they could have
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: thrown a flag on the guy for being a jerk
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: with the whistle's blown and everybody standing around, but the
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: whistles are blowing, so even BYU defensive linemen are standing
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: still because the whistle is blown, and everybody's expecting him
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: to clock it anyway, so they just assumed he clocked it,
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: no problem. But this one safety, I can't remember his name.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: comes running in, and he dives through everybody's legs and
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: recovers it. But it was a bit of a delay
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: from the blown whistle. And the rule there is immediate
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: and obvious. Obvious, clearly, but immediate is subjective. And if
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: you have to run through 15 people to get to it,
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: is that immediate? And would anybody closer have fallen on
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: it if you hadn't have blown the whistle is what
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: I'd be arguing if I was Notre Dame. I can't
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: believe I defended Notre Dame three different things here.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: Did it go to replay? It did go to replay.
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: Who's the replay crew? Big 12. Yeah.
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: But it was obvious that the ball did come out
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: of his hand. Don't disagree with that. But once the officials...
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: The officials are who? Big 12. Once they've blown the whistle...
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: And they were not going to review it.
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: But Satake called timeout.
- 1:14:21Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Now, he can't force a review because it's within two minutes.
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: But... He called a timeout and they looked at it.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: Now, if I'm a Notre Dame fan today, I feel
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: like we, how many football officials are on a field?
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: Eight?
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: Is it eight?
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: I feel like it was 19 on 11, whatever the
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: number is. I feel like we got jobbed by the officials. Now,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Notre Dame, you've only got yourself to blame for this.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: This is part of when you decide we're not going
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: to be conference affiliated, but all officials are going to be.
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: You open the door for this. So you're the one
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: you would like to think you get fair treatment, but
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: let's be honest about this. That was a valuable win
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: for the Big 12. We just talked about BYU.
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Possibly even with two losses getting in as an at-large.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: When you say valuable, you mean literally financially. Literally financially valuable.
- 1:15:09Speaker 7: That's right.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: Not just figuratively valuable, which it is.
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: It's literally financially valuable.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: It's not just the piece of having financials, of having
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: another team in, to where you get two cuts of
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: having two teams in. It is financially more important to
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: have two teams in because it makes your whole product,
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: the Big 12 brand, more valuable that's right you just
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: had to sell 27 and 2028 and 2029 yeah like
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: if you had two teams in the playoff that monster
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: deal that you just sold for pennies is probably a
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: little bit more if you had sold it next year
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: you know so i mean it was a value that's
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: that's just that's money's going to come into play in
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: this it's it's going to and if you're notre dame
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: and you're going to go on the road and they're
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: going to have big 12 officials you better buckle up
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: because you're probably not going to get the 50 50
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: calls uh our friends at hard rock they bring you

- 1:17:05Speaker 1: LT had the last pick. Brown, I don't want to
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: talk about this game too much, but Miami is number one.
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: But the officiating in that game, too, before you tell
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: us about XXXY, first of all, the holding penalty.
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: Terrible call.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: In double overtime, the first touchdown that Florida State scored.
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: Which was just so improbable to begin with.
- 1:17:24Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: I mean, you throw it up for Deuce Robinson to
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: go get it, that's a good smart play.
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: I don't understand that flag there. That holding was nowhere close,
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: was it? That wasn't even close to holding. Me either.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: And then you do it again, and Ashton Daniels keeps
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: it alive, throws it up, and it looks like both
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: the offensive and the defensive player have the same control
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: of the football as they're going down. But as we
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: land on the ground... In the replay, it's obvious to
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: me that the guy who did have the ball from
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: Miami is frantically moving his arms trying to re-grip the football.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: I don't know how they ruled on the field it
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: was an interception, and I don't know how after that
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: they felt good that it was still an interception on replay.
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: I felt like that that was a touchdown. This is
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: the first time. Since the ACC was the inventor of this,
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: of letting us hear the replay, it's the first time
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: I've heard it and I'm like, ooh, you did not
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: want that heard because I don't know if you thought
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: the same thing and I don't know if you've been
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: able to go back and watch it.
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: I did not hear, and I do love the full transparency.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: I do too, but the replay official from the outset,
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: it sounds like he's trying to sell the ref at
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: the game on this being an interception.
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: Go back and watch it and listen. It's obvious he's
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: got the ball right there. You see that, don't you?
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: He's got the ball on his way down. It's very obvious,
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: an interception right there. And I'm like, I don't think
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: it was that obvious.
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: Are you kidding me? It's not obvious at all. Do
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: you remember a couple of years ago with Cam Ward
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: and Miami getting all of these calls? Their defense was
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: really bad, but they had a lot of controversy in
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: the endings of games. I remember the Cal game stood out.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: and we talked about the ACC needs to have a
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: team continue to move forward.
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: Again, I hate it we spend so much time talking
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: and officiating, but you have to. If I'm Florida State,
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: I feel like you just protected the number one team
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: in the country. The hold was egregious enough. But then
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: on the replay, and if I'm Mike Norvell, who's probably
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: going to lose his job, but if I'm Mike Norvell
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: and I go back and watch that replay discussion, I am,
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: and you know he has today, I am so pissed.
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: I'm calling Jim Phillips and being like, I hope y'all
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: got what you wanted. You've got the number one team
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: in the country. I hope you protect them like you
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: did against us the rest of the way. At least
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: treat everybody else like you treated us. Because from the
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: outset of that replay, you could tell the guy in Charlotte,
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: I think is where their replay is, was forcing it
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: on the on-field official that this was an interception. We're
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: going to call this an interception, right, Todd?
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: Obviously. Obviously, he's got clear control. The defender doesn't. Well, no,
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: he doesn't. No, he doesn't. It was a sell from
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: the very beginning.
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: And by the way, he's three feet from being to
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: the ground yet, so there's nothing clear about the interception.
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: No, not at all.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: And by the time they're landing the ground, the receiver
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: has as much of.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: The ball as the other. Who does that go to?
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: It's a dual reception. That's right. It's a dual control,
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: and it goes to the offense.
- 1:20:02Speaker 7: Yep.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: And then when they're on the ground, as they hit
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: the ground, it seems to me like that as they
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: hit the ground, the Florida State guy has the firm control.
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: And the Miami, you see the arms. He's scrambling to
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: re-grip it again.
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: It should have been a touchdown.
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: Another thing on the replay thing, it sounded like the
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: game official was his headset. They were on the runway
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: at Miami's airport already. There was so much background noise.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: Anytime he would talk, you couldn't even understand what he
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: was saying. So I'm not even sure they had a
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: clear connection.
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: Where would we be right now, though, if Florida State
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: would have gotten maybe some of the benefit of the
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: calls and they win that game.
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: I guess BYU is number one in the nation, first
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: of all, right? Yeah, BYU would be number one.
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: Another one of those things you wake up out of
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: a coma.
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: You go into a coma in August and you're like,
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: what happened?
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: Miami, I guess, would be down around where Tennessee, Kentucky,
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: and Alabama are.
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: With no real meaningful games other than Notre Dame left.
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: I like chaos. It's not going to be nearly as
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: much next year, though. But it is fun in the moment.
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: If you're talking 2014 playoff, by the way, I thought
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: I did a good job of selling sarcasm.
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: We'll play it. I'll send it to Forrester. Play it
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: later on in the next round.
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: But I did a sarcastic video after the Tennessee loss
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: where I thought it was obvious I was being sarcastic.
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: Well, I didn't watch the video. I just read the
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: title to Lance, and Lance, we just laughed at it.
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: I haven't seen it. I didn't watch the video. I
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: only read the caption. Can we see it?
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: Well, we don't have it yet, but I'll send it
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: to Forrest, and we'll play it in the next round.
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: But I am a strict 12-team guy, but after Alabama lost,
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: I jokingly cut a video. Even panning to the Alabama pennant,
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: and staring at the camera deadpan that I'm now in
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: favor of the 2014 playoffs.
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: Sarcasm does not carry over on social media very well.
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: Oh, of course, because Alabama lost. Well, that's the joke.
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: That's the joke there. I'm still a 12 person. But
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: if you are a 2014 person, this kind of weekend
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: should make it be like, well, I don't think we've
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: settled anything.
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: Now everybody's got an extra loss as we fight for 24.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: When we went from two to four, it's going to
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: diminish the regular season. I never believed that. When we
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: went to 12, I was like, you still, in major,
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: Big Ten and SEC, you only get two losses, so
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: it's not that big of a deal. Going to 24, it's...
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: It's going to take away from weekends like this.
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: But if everybody's got two losses by midseason, then we've
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: still got a whole half season to play. Can I
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: sell you on this on the 24? And I'm not
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: a 24 fan either, but if I were going to be,
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: and I don't know who is, frankly, except the conference commissioners.
- 1:22:39Speaker 4: Me either.
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: Haven't found one yet.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: But if I was going to sell it to you,
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: I would say, but doesn't this tell you, this world
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: of college football, the 2014 playoff will be far more unpredictable.
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: If a regular season weekend is this unpredictable, why wouldn't
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: I assume the playoffs will be as well once.
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: We get there?
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: If you've got an unpredictable 2014 playoff, Where 24 seed
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: can beat nine seed?
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: You're like, I'll buy that. Look, I think the playoff
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: will end up, I mean, we'll get around it. We'll
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: be really excited about it. What I am saying, though,
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: is like these chaos weekends, you're like, oh, this team
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: is done or this team has no more room for
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: a margin of error at all moving forward. And I
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: think that's going to change a lot.
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: Well, speaking of a team that would not be done
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: in a 2014 playoff, but is now Oklahoma, Kentucky is
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: my game.
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: If we could discuss that one. Tell us about XXXY
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: first and we'll do that.
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: Jennifer Say, former national champion gymnast, former brand president at Levi's,
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: rather than say something she didn't believe in, walked away
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: from that corporate job and started her own line of clothing,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: XXXY Athletics. The mission, in their words, is to empower
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: female athletes to take a stand for fair competition. So
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: they launched a tee that started a movement. That's what
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: they call it right there, at XXXY. Real athletic apparel,
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: not just a slogan on a shirt. Performance tops, tanks,
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: sports bras, leggings, shorts, training sets, hoodies, hats, graphic tees.
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: They've got men's and women's. It's worn by athletes who've
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: actually put something on the line, too. New customers get 20%

- 1:24:09Speaker 2: All right. Let's do it, man. Oh, wait, what are
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: you saying, Forrester? Give me Forrester's mic.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: I was just trying to let you know that I've
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: got your post-game reaction. Okay, well, let's listen after, you know,
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: I'm a 12-team guy, but I posted, hey, I'm 24
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: now after the Alabama loss. You tell me if you
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: can hear the sarcasm.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: Hit it, man. Where is it?
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: So it'll appear right here when it's finished loading.
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: Oh, I'm sorry. I thought it was ready.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: We'll come back to that a little bit later on. Okay,
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: so let's do Oklahoma and Kentucky then. Yeah, do Oklahoma
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: and Kentucky. Um, I, I, listen, we have, um, said
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: this can't continue for Kentucky. They, they went all these
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: games too close. They've got to go over time to
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: beat South Carolina on the road. Got to go over
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: time to win at home. You just can't keep doing
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: this every week. And Will Stein says, well, hold my beer, uh,
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: roll my bourbon. If he's in Kentucky and watch me,
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: we'll keep doing it every week. And every week Lance,
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: this team plays close one possession games.
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: And they win them all. It's crazy. We ran into
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: a big contingent of Kentucky fans. I know you were
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: talking to one of them. I never got whether or
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: not they were students. I don't know.
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: These guys were in Gatlinburg. They had a guy's trip.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: They were dental students. And I think it all going
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: to Kentucky. And boy, you want to talk about Mark
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: Pope's name never got mentioned?
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: Nope.
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: Will Stein. They are in love with this guy. They
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: feel like they've gotten the diamond in the rough. They
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: love the fact that Jim, he's just playing with house money,
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: and he's willing.
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: Fourth down? Yeah, we'll go for a fourth down. Two-point conversion?
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: Let's go for two. I don't want to take away
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: the win. They were a touchdown dog, and I thought
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: Oklahoma would win this game. But, man, Mateer, another one
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: he served up for somebody and was like, I'm going
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: to give you this win. I mean, he did it again.
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: Well, I mean, OU down one, ball in hand, two
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: minutes to play, and Mateer throws that third interception.
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: And I was shocked that he didn't take the knee
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: or fall down. Because, you know, the only other thing.
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: That showed you they weren't scared of Mateer. Like, this
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: is going to put us up eight. They still have life.
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: If he would have gone down, the game's completely over.
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: It didn't matter. But, I mean, Mateer, again, three picks.
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: Hey, can you give me cut number 15, Tyler? Will
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: Stein here. If, I know nobody thinks this is funny
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: when you do these things in sports, but we do
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: them in sports all the time. If the SEC championship,
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: the last one ever, was played today, it would be
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: Georgia versus Kentucky. I wouldn't bet against– I mean, it'd
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: be hard for me to go to the window and
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: bet against Kentucky the way they're playing.
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: I mean, if it's not Georgia-Kentucky, is it Georgia-Ole Miss?
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: That's next, yeah.
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: Georgia and Ole Miss. Or Kentucky-Ole Miss, depending what happens.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: But here's Will Stein on the turnaround with Big Blue Nation.
- 1:26:57Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, it's months in the making. It's not
- 1:27:00Speaker 8: just getting the right players with the right people in
- 1:27:02Speaker 8: here with the right characteristics. Grit, toughness, accountability, connection, people
- 1:27:07Speaker 8: that are about the team. That's what really– shows and
- 1:27:10Speaker 8: moments like this in the age of portal and rev
- 1:27:14Speaker 8: share and nil you know a lot of guys aren't
- 1:27:16Speaker 8: typically bought into the program that they're playing but that's
- 1:27:19Speaker 8: one some something that we made sure that we got
- 1:27:21Speaker 8: we got guys on the end of this program was that.
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: They they love playing football.
- 1:27:25Speaker 8: For their for their team for their university for kentucky
- 1:27:27Speaker 8: and it's showing up for sure.
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: How how ironic would it be on our final year
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: if we had kentucky ole miss the two teams because
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: You know, it doesn't really count. I know Texas got there,
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: but Oklahoma hadn't been there. But, you know, they're newbies.
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: But if you had those two teams in the final
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: ever SEC championship game. That they finally got there. Yeah,
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: that'd be incredible. Yeah, it would be.
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: And it would probably bring back the tickets for the– Oh,
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: my gosh.
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: I mean, yeah.
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: Just frame that one, right? And I'll never forget, and
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: I guess they still do this, but I always made
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: a joke, like Kentucky fans don't really care about playing
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: in the SEC championship because they play North Carolina that Saturday.
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: Mark Pope would get it like nobody would show up.
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: He'd see empty seats at Rupp Arena, and he'd be like,
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: what's going on here? Well, they're Will Stein people now, Mark.
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: You've turned us into a football school, Mark.
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: That's right. Are we taking this team seriously now, Kentucky?
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: Their stat line, 21-13, they win the game. Kenny Menchie,
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: 21-28 for 158 yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions. He was
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: basically Julian Sands.
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: Zero interceptions. I mean, I'm not still, but I give
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: them a lot of credit. They're sitting where they are
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: at 6-1 and No. 12 nationally, but I don't think
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: this is a team that can make noise, but they've
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: done it up. to this point.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: Vandy, which is the worst team in the SEC right now,
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: then a bye, and all of a sudden that game
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: at Tennessee is massive for both teams. I cannot believe
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: we're having this discussion. But in my hearts of hearts,
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: and I'm a non-believer, I guess, in my heart of hearts,
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: I could see them losing their last four games.
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: Oh, I could too. They're going to be underdogs to
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: Tennessee and Missouri.
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: I mean, Missouri's on the road. Tennessee's on the road.
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: Tennessee has dominated that series historically against Kentucky for what
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: that is worth. Florida, who even knows what Florida you get.
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: I don't know, man.
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: I don't know when I'll quit doubting this team. I
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: doubted they could do it against LSU. Nice story at
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: South Carolina. You're not going to LSU is.
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: Going to end that. They did it.
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: I doubted they could do it on the road at
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: Oklahoma as crappy as their offense is more on that
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: in one second.
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: They did it.
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: So I don't know when we quit doubting them. This
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: guy has done an amazing job. He really has halfway
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: through the season. But if they're 7-5 and playing in
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: the last ever Gator Bowl or the last ever Music
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: City Bowl, it's going to seem like a disappointment. That
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: would feel devastating. I mean, it was just two weeks ago, Brian.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: You were like, they're not going to go to a bowl.
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: I mean, I thought great start, cool story. I don't
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: know if they can make it to six wins.
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: What was the song we sang if we make it
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: through September or something like that? Don't wake me up
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: when September ends. We were like, yeah, Will Stein did
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: not want to wake up. On the Oklahoma side from
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: Christopher Ovens, Oklahoma has scored 14 points or less on
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: offense now in five consecutive games. Based on his research,
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: the last time they did that in a season was 1940.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: FDR was still president. They've changed the rules since then.
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: They have.
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: This is historically a bad Oklahoma offense. Not just bad
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: in our moment. It's like all-time World War II bad.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: LT picks another game when we come back. We've covered
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: Auburn's win over number one Georgia. Tennessee beating Alabama. We've
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: covered Florida over Texas, Miami surviving Florida State, BYU now
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: a championship contender. We've covered Ohio State over Indiana. Where
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: do we go next? Here's sarcasm, though. Tell me if
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: you can tell. I mean, I thought I nailed it
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: the first try here on being a 2014 now believer.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: I just wanted to hop on here and say after
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: some further consideration, watching some games today, no game in particular,
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: but I'm all for the 2014 playoff now. I do
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: think three lost teams, maybe even four lost teams, should
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: have access to the playoffs. So, yes, put me down
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: for the 2014 playoff.
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: That's obvious. Dripping with it. Yeah, the fact that you
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: turned the camera to the Bama logo, yeah. Yeah, I
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: should have moved the Tennessee. But, you know, people are stupid.
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: You've got to put that into account. Yeah, I was
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: just like.
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: I mean, it was right after the loss, too. I
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: was like, being obvious now that Alabama's got their second loss,
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: let's go to 24. That's right. Can we do it
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: this year?
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: And I'm open. I'm open for 48 if we need to.
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: When we come back, more here on Sporting State, presented
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: by our friends at Hard Rock Bet.
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: Back with you on the next round.
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: Before Brownie tells us about Perfect 10 Mortgage, in the
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: NFL yesterday, it started early on across the pond. where
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: the Texans beat the Jaguars 34-31 in a must-win game
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: for Houston there.
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: And C.J. Stroud, actually, I thought played a pretty good game. Yeah,
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: we were actually in the car, so we listened to
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: that one. Did have the Texans, plus the point and
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: a half. But yeah, I mean, is 2-4, is it
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: too far behind the eight ball? 2-4 team has never
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: made the Super Bowl.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: But they had to have that one. Plus, now they
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: get Marvin Harrison Jr. added to the mix, so we'll
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: see what they are down the stretch. The biggest story,
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: news today has come, that Jalen Hurts is done for
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: the season. It's blood clots in his lungs now, and
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: it is concerning for him away from football health-wise, but
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: obviously that puts football on the back burner.
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: He is done for the year. The Eagles.
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: don't look to be a good football team with all
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: their injuries. Your Rams, though, is the talking point, right?
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: Just the fact that they are so good on paper
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: and they're not getting the results that anybody expected.
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: Yeah, look, I mean, I could sit here and bitch
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: and complain about officiating because, you know, there was a
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: blown call. Josh Wallace picked off Bo Nix and that
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: game should have been over. And I don't know how
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: you call that in real time. And I'm talking about...
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: So the Rams score, and they come in, and they
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: end up going up one, and then Arizona's got the
- 1:33:20Speaker 2: ball with 40 seconds left, and you get the offside
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: on Josiah Stewart, and so you take the shot downfield,
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: which is the right play, obviously, from Brissette. The grab
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: is made, but then they're going to call targeting. They're
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: going to call a personal foul there. We have replay
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: for a reason, right? How do you not replay that?
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: He scraped him with his shoulder. That is... Not even
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: close to being a 15.
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: They don't replay it in the NFL, though, do they?
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: I think they only replay it in the college game
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: because it comes with an ejection.
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: I thought they did. Yeah, maybe I'm wrong.
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: I didn't think they replayed it in the NFL because
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: you don't frequently see it called, to be honest with you.
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: In fact, you're seeing it called less in college. I
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: don't know if they've officiated it out of the game
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: in college or what. I was surprised at that call, too.
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: I mean, you've got to give or set credit for
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: making the completion. They're still probably, what, midfield, right, without
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: the penalty? Yeah, without the penalty and clocks running. So
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: at that point, you know.
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: You're down to 20 seconds in a spike, and you've
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: still got to make a couple of plays to get
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: them in field goal range. Yeah, that was a tough call.
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: But anyway, with all that said, the Rams shouldn't be
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: in a situation where they don't give up a touchdown defensively,
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: and they still lose the game with the reigning MVP.
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: 12.5-point favorites, which is massive in the NFL.
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: Well, it's the biggest outright underdog win in five years
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: in the NFL. I mean, again, you just don't see this.
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: You see a lot of one-possession games.
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: But, you know, I was talking to somebody, and this
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: is actually the subject of my drive-in video. Um, on
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: our social media, I was talking to a friend of
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: mine on the way in and I'm, and he's a
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: Titans fan and he was like, Titans finally got to win.
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: They beat the Colts.
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: And I was brought up the Rams beating, um, the, uh, the, uh,
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: Cardinals beating the Rams. And I'm like, this is where
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: we are in college football. I think that you look
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: at those games and you're like, yeah, I know it's
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: a big upset, but in division games, it's just going
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: to happen. Like teams that play in division, you got
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: to play twice. You're the most familiar with those teams.
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: It's just going to happen in division because you're going
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: to get these upsets that you don't see coming. I
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: kind of think that's where we are in college football,
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: and we saw it yesterday with the Titans beating the
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: Colts and the Cardinals beating the Rams. Those don't make
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: sense elsewhere, but you just look at it like it happens.
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: Yeah, and I don't want to be a pessimist today
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: on a Monday, but I think that this is kind
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: of the end for this Rams era. I look at McVay.
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: He looks like he's just– been just driven into the ground.
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: His quote afterwards, we won't win a game unless we
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: figure out how not to beat ourselves. There's nothing positive
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: I can say about today.
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's going to be out. I think
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: he will probably take a year off and then get
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: into broadcasting and maybe we see him back in coaching.
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: Definitely Stafford just looks completely different from last year winning
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: the MVP. And I think age has caught up with him.
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: Aaron Donald's got to be regretting this. Oh, Aaron Donald's
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: hating it right now. Miles Garrett's, you know, when is
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: he going to be back? Hopefully within two weeks. But,
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: you know, there's just– and now Devontae Adams. I don't
- 1:36:03Speaker 2: know what that– it was a non-contact injury. Those are
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: the worst sometimes. Those are.
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: All he's doing is making a cut in the end
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: zone and has to limp off.
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: So I'm going to be surprised at this point. It's
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: hard to believe going into that game the Rams were
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: still the co-favorite to win the Super Bowl. But I'm
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: going to be surprised if they make the postseason. But
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: I think and this is why I enjoy it. If
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: you've got a team out there that is living in
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: the moment, enjoy it because it goes fast.
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: Two and four now for them, two and four for
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: the Texans. And there's some really good, talented teams that
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: are two and four. And tonight we've got an unbeaten
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: San Francisco team, Chiefs State unbeaten against the winless Chargers.
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: That's another team on paper that's 0-6.
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: You know, you talk about 2-4, so now the Cardinals
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: are 2-4. The Rams are in dead last in the
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: NFC West.
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: Never thought we'd see that at any point this year.
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: But the Chargers at 0-6, and Justin Herbert after the
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: game is being asked about Mike McDaniel's offense and That
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: is another shock to me is that McDaniel paired up
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: with Justin Herbert. Some of the weapons he has have
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: been this bad on offense. Never saw that coming. By
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: the way, the Browns beat the Ravens. No Lamar Jackson,
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: but still. Browns win. Browns tied for first place 4-2 to.
- 1:37:12Speaker 2: Tell you how upside down this season is. Technically, they're
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: 2-0 in a vision, so they're in first place. Technically so, yes.
- 1:37:17Speaker 2: So that's good.
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: How hard would you have laughed at me if we
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: had done NFL Bowl predictions? I was like, guys, going
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: into week seven, the Browns will be leading their division
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: and the Rams will be dead last in theirs. You
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: guys would have laughed so hard at me for that one.
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: And you won't talk about unpredictability.
- 1:37:33Speaker 2: There it is.
- 1:37:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: And by the way, in the last 13 meetings between
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: the Packers and the Cowboys, Green Bay is 11-1-1 against
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: Dallas in the last 13 meetings. They haven't lost to
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: the Cowboys yet. since October 16th, 2016. And that division
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: is Dallas' to take. All they've got to do is
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: win some games. The Giants are starting Jameis Winston.
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: Yeah, not anymore. J.J. came in a little bit.
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: Yeah, J.J.
- 1:37:57Speaker 2: McCarthy.
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: Yeah, McCarthy is going to. I'd be shocked if he doesn't.
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: The Giants have been starting Jameis Winston. Let me just
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: put it that way. So now they're going to the
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: guy the Vikings didn't want. The Eagles now, it's going
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: to be a complete rebuild. Jalen Hurts out for the season.
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: They're already getting rid of parts. The commanders have a
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: quarterback that's got a bionic arm. How you don't win
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: this division if you're the Cowboys would be remarkable. It
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: doesn't make a lot of sense.
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: But it doesn't look like they will do. Yeah, it's
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: really interesting because the NFC, like the East is only
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: going to get one. The South's only going to get one.
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: And then it comes down to, the wild cards out
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: of the North and the West. Yep.
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: As they write here at Yahoo, the Eagles look like
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: a potential dynasty 20 months ago. And two calendar years later,
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: less than, it looks like a total rebuild in Philadelphia.
- 1:38:44Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: Same could be said for the Rams. You think it's
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: about to be a total rebuild starting?
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I'm not just saying this for effect.
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: I mean, you lose to the Cardinals like that. I mean,
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: something is off. Something is broken. They're not whole. But
- 1:38:56Speaker 2: who is whole? I mean, San Francisco, best team in
- 1:38:58Speaker 2: the NFL. They're not even close to whole. Yeah. All right.
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: That's the NFL.
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: We'll get stuff trickling in from Alabama's news conference when
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: Ryan Grubb gets up there and some of that. brownie

- 1:40:27Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: Number one in the country in the new AP poll
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: is Miami. Here's Mario Cristobal on being number one.
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: Well, I think we have a good enough sample size
- 1:40:37Speaker 4: of 2026 to know that that's absolutely insignificant and irrelevant
- 1:40:43Speaker 4: with the changing of the guard from week to week.
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: I don't see it as a.
- 1:40:47Speaker 4: I mean, I honestly really don't... It just has no
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: value to our processes and whatnot, but I'll focus on
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: the real one that's important, the 1-0.
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: We talked a lot about some of the blown calls
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: in that game, but Mensah, again, had 326 yards and
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: three touchdowns, and they've got another great running back in
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: Javion Mallory who carried it 12 times for 108 yards.
- 1:41:16Speaker 2: Yeah, look, with Mallory and Mark Fletcher, and then obviously
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: what you get with Malachi, Tony, they've got a ton
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: of weapons. I still watch them, and I think they're good,
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: but I don't think they're as good as they were
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: last year.
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: So number one is lost for two straight weeks. Miami
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: gets Pitt.
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: No.
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: He's back. Hey, he's back. He's back. Dunaway didn't last
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: half the show. I was surprised when the number came out.
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: I made the mistake by just going by Pitt's 5-2,
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: I believe. Well, the backup quarterback, to be fair, but yes.
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: And so on the TV, I made the mistake of
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: putting the little pink mark, interesting game, but then I
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: checked the point spread. It's 21 points, Miami.
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: What does that matter this year? Here's where it gets interesting.
- 1:42:01Speaker 2: To me, it's going to be next weekend, maybe in
- 1:42:04Speaker 2: Chapel Hill against North Carolina. North Carolina has really, really improved.
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: And Belichick scheming against this Shannon Dawson offense and Darian Mensah,
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: I mean, and you're going to be looking ahead to
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: Notre Dame the next week. I think North Carolina could
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: be a really interesting game for them.
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: So Bill Belichick all of a sudden is the fly
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: in the ointment, if you will, of the ACC.
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: I mean, they're 4-2. Yeah, I mean... Kind of the
- 1:42:30Speaker 2: same situation as Auburn.
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: Beat Duke over the weekend, which is, I mean, as
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: crazy as it is to say, that was a good
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: win for them, beating Duke. And, I don't know, I mean,
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: point spread for that game would be.
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: Which one? Miami, North Carolina. Right now, Miami is probably
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: 11.5 or 12.
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: It's Notre Dame's best win so far, I think.
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: North Carolina? Probably so. Probably better than Wisconsin now. Now
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: that Wisconsin lost to UCLA. You know, it's funny.
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: Heather Dennett was on TV, too, right there, who covers
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: the college football playoff, and she was talking about Miami.
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: TV number two, not TV also. Yeah, TV number two.
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: She was on TV as well, on TV number two.
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: talking about the college football playoff and Miami was the discussion.
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: And they've got a graphic at the bottom that says
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: notable upcoming games, plural. And it only had versus number
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: one Notre Dame.
- 1:43:21Speaker 2: That was it.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: I mean, so you start overlooking these teams and I mean,
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: who knows? You would not have guessed Georgia beats Auburn.
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: You would not have guessed Florida beats Texas. Head over
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: Miami would be on par for this season. It's just
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: hard to believe we're going to get this week after
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: week after week.
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: When you see a weekend like that, it makes it
- 1:43:42Speaker 2: so much more amazing that Indiana was able to go
- 1:43:44Speaker 2: 16-0 last year. Absolutely.
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: Sitting here on Monday, lanceslock.com. You go to that anytime
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: you want advice on what to play, any sport, lanceslock.com.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: But sitting here on Monday with a whole week to
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: change our mind, just outright winners. Houston at Utah. Big,
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: big 12 game.
- 1:44:03Speaker 2: Houston at Utah. I think I would go Houston right now. Wow. Okay.
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: You saved the graphic because I'll go Utah. Utah barely
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: got out of Boulder alive.
- 1:44:15Speaker 2: Just a winner.
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: In Madison, USC on the road at Wisconsin. I will
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: go Wisconsin. I don't like this Wisconsin offense.
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: Save the graphic. I'm USC.
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: I see a trend. Lance likes you doing this, by
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: the way.
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: Let's see. Indiana at Michigan. I'm going to take Indiana.
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: Indiana on the road at Michigan. You're the same way?
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: Tommy Carr looks like he's the quarterback now.
- 1:44:41Speaker 2: I'll go Indiana.
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: I mean, though, Tommy Carr was hard not to be
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: an improvement from Bryce Underwood, but he was an immediate improvement.
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and they're still a seven-point favorite. And look, Sig
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: finally loses a game. Is he going to lose back-to-backs?
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: Ole Miss at Texas. Option to change later on, nothing
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: to do with point spread, just picking the winner.
- 1:45:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll take Texas right now, but I don't feel
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: good about it.
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: I would love to know if Lacey is starting or Arch,
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: and I'm not saying... Oh, yeah, that makes a difference. Well,
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: I'm not saying I would only go if Arch is starting.
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: That might actually change it for me if Lacey is starting.
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: You see my point? I mean, if they're going back up.
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: I mean, hard to imagine that Texas' offense can keep
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: up with Ole Miss' point score. And then the last one,
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: LSU at Auburn, which all of a sudden now is
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: a playoff implication, possibly playoff elimination game.
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: Yeah. You've got to tell me if Lovett can play
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: like he did this past week and not turn it over.
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: I think LSU. You'll love this.
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: You know how Lance thinks. He loves hearing you go
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: opposite him on all these games. One of the guys
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: around us this weekend, Duke, North Carolina, was starting, and
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: LSU A guy just said, Lance had told me all along,
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: North Carolina's.
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: A great play, great play, great play, North Carolina, right?
- 1:45:53Speaker 2: Or was it Duke? No, it was Duke. I was
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: wrong on that one.
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: It was Duke, and he was like, North Carolina's favorite?
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: And Lance just looked at me and smiled. That's what
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: I wanted to do. They blew a late lead.
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: All right, so that's the reaction to what was, I believe,
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: the greatest college football weekend all time.
- 1:46:11Speaker 2: I really do. Regular season-wise, yeah. I guess you can't
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: get a postseason one better than that one either.
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: We'll give you more reaction to what happened in Knoxville
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: and in Athens and everything else going on in college
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: football and all that. We've got two more hours to go.
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: All right here on the next round. That's it for
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: us on Sporting State. Clay and Buck next, but go
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: find us when you're done with them. Spotify and wherever
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: else you get your podcasts.
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: Have a great day.
