Transcript
- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:10Beware of the stare of Mary Shaw.
- 0:13She had no children, only golfs. And if you see her in your
- 0:16dreams, you must never, ever scream.
- 0:20Well, you know what's your least favorite?
- 0:24Scary Movie broadcast where we talk about the good, the bad,
- 0:27the ugly and the absurd and all of our favorite.
- 0:29Family's favorite scary movies because we believe every horror
- 0:31movie rightfully has this fan base.
- 0:33Even if we don't always get. It my name's Travis My.
- 0:35Name's Jessie. It's the best month of the year.
- 0:37Yale. Actually it's September while
- 0:39we're recording this, but when you're hearing this, unless
- 0:42you're a budget to your buddy is best month of the year.
- 0:46Yeah, it is. It's October, baby.
- 0:49OK, so we're just gonna hop right into it.
- 0:52This is kind of a tradition that we've had the past few years
- 0:55where we find horror movies that the other person hasn't seen.
- 1:01And that's what we're going to do.
- 1:02And I picked first. But before we get into it,
- 1:05Travis, yeah, do we have? We didn't do a poll.
- 1:08We don't have poll results again, no.
- 1:11OK, look, I'm sorry, but we've had back-to-back weekends with
- 1:15events that have required our attention and has been a little
- 1:19bit more distracting. Yeah.
- 1:21And it's just a thing that hasn't happened, so.
- 1:23A lot of life has been happening lately, and not in a good way.
- 1:26Yeah. So if you, if you love the
- 1:28polls, I'm sorry, but if you don't care for the polls, you're
- 1:31welcome. Yeah, there we go.
- 1:33In that case, I'll just go ahead and jump into the movie.
- 1:36Yeah, OK, cool. So this week we're talking about
- 1:39dead silence. Dead silence.
- 1:42I picked this for you to watch because a big part of it was
- 1:49Judas Roberts is going to be a Scare fest guest this.
- 1:52Year Mary Shaw herself. Yeah.
- 1:54And so I knew that like that was one of those things like on the
- 1:57list to watch before we go. So that way you'd have that as a
- 2:00frame of reference. It is nice, yeah.
- 2:02Because I, I didn't, I'm I was happy for people, but it wasn't
- 2:07like a thing. Yeah, yeah, cool.
- 2:08But now I'm I'm excited this year.
- 2:10Yeah, and also I know that like this is you like creepy dolls,
- 2:15you like you like clowns and creepy dolls.
- 2:16I do. So I we got both and we got we.
- 2:19Got a creepy clown doll that was awesome.
- 2:22That was my favorite. Part I knew you would love that
- 2:26and I haven't seen this probably since about 2007.
- 2:29So it's been damn near 20 years since I watched it, so this was
- 2:34a revisit for me as well. I will say there was one night
- 2:37we put this on, but we both fell asleep immediately.
- 2:41It doesn't count. It doesn't count, no.
- 2:43So we tried, yeah. But I'm, I'm glad that we
- 2:45watched it this time, yeah. OK, well here's some information
- 2:49on Dead Silence. So it released from March 16th,
- 2:522007. We watched it on Prime because
- 2:55as of the end of the month of September, you can either stream
- 2:59it on YouTube TV. We don't have YouTube TV money.
- 3:02Are you with me? No, you can also rent it on
- 3:04Prime, YouTube, Apple TV or Fandango at home.
- 3:07Yeah, yeah. Maybe by October when this comes
- 3:10out you'll be able to stream it somewhere at home.
- 3:12Yeah, maybe, maybe you like, looked at what's streaming in
- 3:15October and you said, oh, shit, dead silence.
- 3:17Haven't watched that since, you know, 2007.
- 3:21Yeah, maybe that's what happened.
- 3:24We've got some very familiar names to go over with you today.
- 3:29Written by Lee Wannell and James Wan, directed by James Wan,
- 3:34music by Charlie Klauser, Special Effects.
- 3:38We have the dummy and project coordinators, we're AFX Studio.
- 3:41And do you know who did prosthetics for this movie?
- 3:44Do I know of them? It is one.
- 3:46It is none other than Francois de Gennay, who worked on so many
- 3:50of the Song movies with the rest of his crew.
- 3:53Yeah, yeah, we're surprisingly not talking about a Saw movie.
- 3:57Yes, if you if you fast forwarded like 3 minutes into
- 4:00the episode and you're like, why are they covering another Saw
- 4:02movie they've done about We're not, it just seems like it.
- 4:06It is cool though, I like that that I like what they did with
- 4:10like the early Saw movie. So I think it's really cool to
- 4:12see the team do something different too.
- 4:14And we got another immemorium for Greg Hoffman at the end of
- 4:17this one, too, yeah. I'm not gonna lie, every time I
- 4:20see Hoffman on the screen, though, I'm like, I it, it's
- 4:24like, what is it like the Pavlovian response or whatever
- 4:27where I I need Kostas. I need Kostas.
- 4:32I'm like this movie better have a little bit of Kostas and a God
- 4:35damn it. It doesn't, I'm, I'm afraid to
- 4:37say. Yeah, but it does have somebody
- 4:39else that won't recognize that's true, which we'll get into right
- 4:42now because this movie is starring Ryan Quentin as Jamie
- 4:45Ashton. Amber Valletta is Ellen Ashton.
- 4:49Donnie Wahlberg as Detective Lipton.
- 4:54Back-to-back, Wahlberg's man. We did not first see this.
- 4:58Why would you not say wall to wall, Wahlberg?
- 5:03Wall to wall, Wahlberg's man. That's what we do on the show.
- 5:08I mean, that's just how we roll. We're not afraid.
- 5:12We're. Not afraid.
- 5:13Every other Ford podcast out there, I dare you to do wall to
- 5:15wall Wahlberg's. It's the wall to wall Wahlberg.
- 5:18Challenge. It can't be done until today.
- 5:22They said we were crazy. They said it would never, never
- 5:27work. It might not.
- 5:32We're only 5 minutes into this episode and it's already going
- 5:34off the rails. Michael Fairman as Henry Walker,
- 5:39Joan Henny is Miriam Walker and Judith Roberts as Mary Shaw
- 5:44Travis. Yeah, time for our favorite
- 5:46game. Budget or?
- 5:47Bug Ted. I'm gonna say bug, Ted.
- 5:51You would think so, but it's a budget.
- 5:54Man, really? 20 million. 20 million, Yeah.
- 5:57Wow, That actually is really surprising.
- 5:59I don't. Nothing about this movie screams
- 6:01$20 million. It has an opening box office of
- 6:047.8 million, a worldwide gross of 22 million and an IMDb score
- 6:09of 6.1, firmly putting this in a cult classic territory.
- 6:13Yeah, that's surprising. I thought that.
- 6:16Well, I guess that makes sense. It's cult classic.
- 6:17I'm hearing about it a lot now in the 20 twenties, but I guess
- 6:22it wasn't really well received back then.
- 6:25OK, I've got 3 movies from 2007. We've kind of been in this land
- 6:29a lot lately. So I was trying to figure out
- 6:31how does Dead Silence tie into the themes of the time and the
- 6:34theme I came up with is but why do you want to kill me?
- 6:38OK, that's a great question because I saw in this movie.
- 6:43So the first one is the mist because fucking Miss Carmody
- 6:47wants to kill the little boy who is supposed to be 5 in the book
- 6:51and is like 9 in the movie and it makes things confusing.
- 6:55Still talks like a 5 year old. Yeah, because that's what the
- 6:58character is supposed to be. That's fine.
- 7:00That released November 1st, 2007.
- 7:04It had a budget of 18,000,000, a worldwide gross of 57 million,
- 7:08and an IMDb score of 7.1 out of 10.
- 7:11Sorry I took my glasses off and couldn't see that over.
- 7:13That was another first. So much for me this year.
- 7:15Watched that a couple months ago with you.
- 7:17Yeah, I had reread the the short story note on quote.
- 7:22It's like 160 pages. That's like a that's.
- 7:29A book that's just a book. I'd read it for book club and I
- 7:32was like, I wanna rewatch the movie, see how I feel about it.
- 7:34Now I. Liked it?
- 7:35Yeah. Didn't expect big bugs.
- 7:38But you should always expect big.
- 7:39Bugs. I expected miss.
- 7:41I didn't expect big bugs. I thought the miss was gonna do
- 7:43the killing. Second movie.
- 7:47Normal activity, yeah. Is that that demon is coming for
- 7:52Katie? The thing is, though, the one
- 7:55asking that is Mika. Katie knows.
- 7:57Yeah, that's true. Yeah.
- 7:59So Mika's like, but why don't you want to kill me, though?
- 8:02Am I not? Am I not pretty enough?
- 8:06That released at a Film Festival on October 14th, 2007.
- 8:11It was the Scream Fest Horror Film Festival.
- 8:14OK, Budget of 15,000 Worldwide Gross of 193,000,006.3 IMDb.
- 8:20We know all of this. We know, we know, we know.
- 8:22We've talked about this extensively.
- 8:24You can go listen to that episode.
- 8:25For your biggest movie ever. Ever third movie, Hostile Part
- 8:302. Yeah, OK.
- 8:33Yeah. Does she they, they get taken
- 8:35and she's like, oh, but I've got fuck you money so maybe I can
- 8:38actually kill you. That's what we're gonna do.
- 8:41So. Why not?
- 8:41Why you? Yeah, she yeah, she threw down
- 8:43the Uno reverse card. She.
- 8:45Did, yeah. June 8th, 2007 Budget 10 Million
- 8:49Worldwide Gross 35,000,000 IMDb 5.5 out of 10.
- 8:55I like that movie. I've got 1 tagline.
- 8:58One tagline. One tagline Uno baby.
- 9:01Is is it OK at least? You scream, you die.
- 9:07OK, whatever that's, that's basic that, you know, I'm not
- 9:11mad about it, but it, it could be better, you know, there's
- 9:14room for improvement. Yeah, like we we have.
- 9:17We can play around with it some ourselves.
- 9:19If there's, I think it fits what I've heard about this movie, the
- 9:24making of this movie, at least, which I'm sure you're going to
- 9:26get into, Yeah. If not, I don't know, but go
- 9:30ahead and it's time for that. So what are the facts that you?
- 9:33Got. And that's most of what I've got
- 9:35for the facts of this because there wasn't.
- 9:39Well, OK, so this filmed in Toronto October 2005 to May
- 9:422006. Yeah.
- 9:45It Raven's Fair is an actual real place.
- 9:48It's situated near Bradley Bridge.
- 9:51I don't know what that means because I'm not from Toronto.
- 9:54So this is set in Canada. Yeah, OK.
- 9:58I don't know, like if it's set set in Canada, but like, Raven's
- 10:00Fair is a real place, and that's where they filmed.
- 10:02OK OK. So the script was written on the
- 10:05advice of Lee Wannel's agent at the time.
- 10:09And then they brought in a script doctor, and I'm just
- 10:14gonna read this full quote from him because from Lee.
- 10:17Yeah. From Lee Wannel.
- 10:19For Mr. Very fucking confused. Mr. Very fucking confused after
- 10:22everything is said and done. I'm almost glad dead silence
- 10:25happened because it gave me an extreme cool face lesson in what
- 10:28not to do. It was like learning to swim by
- 10:30leaping off Niagara Falls. I only write scripts on spec
- 10:33now, which means that I write them in my own time without
- 10:35getting paid, and then I take them out in the world to see if
- 10:37anyone's interested. Never again will I enter the
- 10:40arranged marriage of selling a pitch.
- 10:42I've also become very gun shy about working with studios.
- 10:45In the world of independent film, what you write ends up on
- 10:47screen. Plus they don't have the money
- 10:49to bring in script doctors. Works fine for me.
- 10:52Who knows, maybe one day I'll work with the studio again.
- 10:55Yeah. I mean, he's worked with the
- 10:56Universal Studio again, yes. Well, this was 2007.
- 11:00That was actually when that happened.
- 11:02OK, I. Thought that I was like.
- 11:03Yeah, after. I don't have the date for the
- 11:05quote but it's been almost 20 years so.
- 11:08Yeah, that was one of the things I remember like hearing.
- 11:12Is there more to the quote? No.
- 11:14OK, yeah, that like, basically this is a movie like where like
- 11:17a gun was pointed to their head and like, make a movie.
- 11:19Yeah, and it James Wan has similar feelings about it.
- 11:23He basically he was glad to kind of get away from what everybody
- 11:28expected him with Saw, which was the quote UN quote torture porn.
- 11:32And he was very excited to do like kind of a ghost story.
- 11:37He really loves those. And his thoughts are that it
- 11:40didn't go so well. It was because everybody
- 11:42associates this team all together with Saw and saw type
- 11:45movies. And this wasn't that.
- 11:47It was his departure. So he thinks that's partially
- 11:49the response of it not being as big a hit.
- 11:52I could maybe see that back in the, like, when that came out.
- 11:55Yeah. Because like now when you look
- 11:57at James one, there is a lot of diversity.
- 11:59He's done other ghost stories. He did The Conjuring.
- 12:01The Conjuring was great. Insidious.
- 12:03You know, actually I feel like he like, prefers stuff like he
- 12:06said. Yeah.
- 12:07Because, I mean, that's pretty much what he's done in Fast and
- 12:09Furious. In Fast and Furious he did
- 12:13malignant, malignant. So yeah, he kind of goes all
- 12:16over the place, which is great. And this was his second, like,
- 12:21big film. Did they do this after Saul one
- 12:24or was it after Saw 2? I think it would have been after
- 12:27Saw Two if it was filming in 2005, wouldn't it?
- 12:30Saw Saw Four came out the same year as Dead Silence.
- 12:34Oh, really? Yeah.
- 12:35Oh, wow. Yeah, OK.
- 12:38I'd have to go back and look at the dates for filming for the
- 12:40other the first three saw. Dan OK, so 2007 had this version
- 12:45of Don Donnie Wahlberg and then also the Donnie Wahlberg.
- 12:48That gets his head smashed by blocks of ice.
- 12:50Probably the. Saddest you'll ever see him
- 12:53Yeah, that's it's it makes you feel bad for.
- 12:54Him, I wonder, like I wonder if that's why he has the mustache
- 12:58in this 'cause he had already, like, gotten scruffy.
- 13:01Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:03I mean, honestly, I feel like that's why his like role in Four
- 13:07might have been reduced a bit. Maybe he was busy doing this
- 13:10too. I don't know.
- 13:10Yeah. I don't know.
- 13:12Yeah. So those are those are my fun
- 13:14facts. Not a lot out there cuz again, I
- 13:16think that the team didn't love how this turned out, although
- 13:19they recognize that it's become like kind of a cult classic.
- 13:22Yeah, yeah, I, I see people reference this pretty often.
- 13:26You know, I, I think it's pretty well received these days.
- 13:29Well, I guess that's a good opportunity for us to go
- 13:31straight into the good bite. Ugly and absurd.
- 13:33Go ahead and talk about the good things that you found from this
- 13:35on your first watch. First watch 18 months after or
- 13:3918 years after it came out. This movie is illegal adult.
- 13:42It is. Holy shit, they can buy
- 13:43cigarettes. I like this movie, man.
- 13:47I had a good time with it. Yeah, like you said before, I I
- 13:51do like the creepy doll stuff and this movie really delivers
- 13:55on it. Even if it came from 1/2 Hearted
- 13:59Place. I think the talent involved was
- 14:01enough to like elevate it to make it really effective.
- 14:05Because the thing that I noticed the most when watching this was
- 14:10the cinematography was really good.
- 14:12It was really good at like capturing these really tense
- 14:15moments and like slow builds. Like, the one I was really
- 14:18thinking of was that scene with when he has Billy in his motel
- 14:22room and he falls asleep. Yeah.
- 14:24And then there's that slow pan and zoom like right into Billy
- 14:27and then like the eyes just slowly shift over to him.
- 14:31Oh, there's an even better because part with that scene
- 14:33that I noticed and the lights are flickering outside, you
- 14:36know, the motel lights and you can see the dolls pupils are
- 14:39dilating and contracting. Oh God, really?
- 14:41Yeah, I didn't notice that. Yeah, no, I noticed it and I was
- 14:43like, oh, that's a, that's a nice little detail.
- 14:46That was a cool thing too. I like the lighting of that
- 14:48outside, like the neon lighting. I don't know everything about
- 14:50the way that that scene was done.
- 14:51Like it was really effective for me.
- 14:55I also, it was really funny because like I wrote this and
- 14:58then I was like, Oh, it makes sense because of the name.
- 15:00But like every time, like the, the, it got really quiet in the
- 15:05movie. I was like, damn, this is really
- 15:07awesome. Like it like there's no sound.
- 15:10It's silent. And I was like, Oh, dead silence
- 15:12is that's the name of the movie. I was like, oh, it makes sense.
- 15:17I'm picturing you. You're the Leo DiCaprio meme
- 15:20though. No, actually it was more of a
- 15:23Jimmy Neutron brain blast type thing, just like all the neurons
- 15:26in my head was just like going off at once.
- 15:29It's pretty crazy. But the way that they do that,
- 15:32those scenes where like everything just stops.
- 15:34The sound design in that moment is really well because it
- 15:37amplifies all of like these like really small creaks and stuff.
- 15:40Yeah. The sounds that are always
- 15:42creepy, that you hear at night, that kind of, you know, make you
- 15:45unsettled. I think the one, the one where
- 15:48it really got to me, where it was really effective was when he
- 15:50was in the graveyard and like cuz we'd had that music playing
- 15:54in the background and then all of a sudden it's just like
- 15:55normal sounds like him breathing, digging.
- 15:57Like I'm like, oh, this is just actually what it would sound
- 16:00like. Cuz nobody goes out and digs in
- 16:02a graveyard at night to full cinematic.
- 16:04Score from. Charlie, Yeah.
- 16:06Yeah. So like, that was a nice moment
- 16:09of realism. Yeah, I like that too.
- 16:11I also love the the moments with Marian when you would like, hear
- 16:15like the crying in the distance. And like the movie does a really
- 16:18good job of like, setting you up for that because like, she is
- 16:22unstable. So she'll like have these
- 16:24moments where she'll go and, like crawl away somewhere and
- 16:26like, cry. So like, it's actually plausible
- 16:30that it could be her. But also the whole point in the
- 16:33movie is like a ventriloquist and the whole thing is like
- 16:36throwing your voice. So like you hear those if you
- 16:41hear without the subtitles, the subtitles does this thing where
- 16:44it's like not Marian and then it like actually gives a dialogue
- 16:47the. Subtitles are like, we all know
- 16:49what's going on, right? But not with her.
- 16:51With her, it's like actually, you know, like it could be.
- 16:54I wish it would say Marian question Mark.
- 16:57Exactly. Yeah, that would be a better way
- 16:58to do it. But it actually just full on is
- 17:00like not Marian. Like it lets you know that it's
- 17:03not her actually, but I like that.
- 17:06I don't know, this movie was really good at building dread.
- 17:08It was really creepy. I like the design of the doll.
- 17:11It's nice. I had a good time with it.
- 17:13Yeah, I, I agree. I think it does a good job of
- 17:15building, like, a creepy atmosphere.
- 17:18So we do have, like, those nice moments where you are tense,
- 17:20like, you know something's gonna happen and you just don't know
- 17:24what yet. And even if you can kind of
- 17:25forecast it, it's still really effective.
- 17:27Like when Henry goes under in the crawl space.
- 17:30Yeah. Looking for Mary Ann and that
- 17:33relationship. I was sold on them.
- 17:36It made me, I really cared about them.
- 17:39Yeah. Which I think was it's always
- 17:41important to care about your characters.
- 17:43If you're doing more of like a ghost type story, yeah, for
- 17:46sure. That's meant to be more slow
- 17:48paced and build up and things. You need to have something to
- 17:52hang on to with that. They're more sympathetic than
- 17:54Jamie, I feel. Yes.
- 17:57But yeah, I think that this is just it.
- 18:01It's got its moments that I think are really good.
- 18:02We can't deny the fact that James Wan is a great director,
- 18:07and him and Lee Whannell will always find like little moments
- 18:10to add in some, like, fun into their script, maybe a little bit
- 18:14of campiness and what not. And I like that they worked with
- 18:17their team. Yeah, that they've been very
- 18:19comfortable with. So I think that all of those
- 18:21things like it, it puts together a very proficiently done movie.
- 18:26Yeah, I agree they did a really good job with this.
- 18:28I'm kind of curious what the script doctor added.
- 18:31I know where it took. A wave and you know like why
- 18:34would you fuck with a wee one else script?
- 18:35I know he's not perfect. He's had some dots out there,
- 18:37but like, you know, like, I don't know, like the movie from,
- 18:43I mean, what I've watched was really solid.
- 18:45I don't know. And they're like most of the
- 18:47things I've seen from him are solid.
- 18:48Like he's never really done anything bad.
- 18:50Yeah, I, I am very curious. And it's also very interesting
- 18:53that it's like Lionsgate was, you know, involved again.
- 18:58And it just seems like it's such a different set of feelings than
- 19:03it was, you know, back. Then yeah, yeah, for sure, yeah.
- 19:06What's your bad bad I I'm. Going to be honest, I don't
- 19:09really have a lot of bad things to say about this, OK?
- 19:12But there was one thing that really took me out and it was at
- 19:15the end when the dolls got the derpy face.
- 19:18Whenever Mary Shaw's like trying to like there, she's taken over
- 19:22them and like the faces get all like all elongated out of.
- 19:25Oh yeah. It's just that was bad that like
- 19:30I just like. The Super Mario 64 face.
- 19:33It. Kind of is like that, yeah.
- 19:36I was thinking a lot of like truth or dare.
- 19:40I know it doesn't, but it's just like the derpy face.
- 19:42I don't. Know truth or Dare is the
- 19:44Snapchat filter. Yeah, it's just if you derp up a
- 19:48face, I don't know, just like pick the right time.
- 19:51That was not the right time to go derpy with it.
- 19:55Other than that, I don't really have anything else bad to say
- 19:59about this movie, though. Like honestly, I just, I tried
- 20:02to look for things but I was like, I'm just like pleasantly
- 20:05like. I'm enjoying myself and I really
- 20:09just don't have anything bad to say.
- 20:10OK, I didn't love this movie when it came out, really.
- 20:17And so I was excited to watch it again as a completely different
- 20:23kind of person than I was back then.
- 20:25Yeah. And I went into I didn't even
- 20:29like tell obviously because you're surprised I didn't like
- 20:31it before. So I didn't even it's not like I
- 20:33even did like with a Leatherface where I was like, man, I'm
- 20:36dreading this. I actually switched my movie
- 20:40that I was going to do last minute because I just wasn't
- 20:42feeling the other one. But I still don't.
- 20:46I don't love it. Wow, really?
- 20:48Yeah, I thought it was mostly boring and I just couldn't care.
- 20:52I care about Jamie. I just couldn't care about him.
- 20:56I think the stuff with his dad was written really poorly, so it
- 20:59even like takes away from that twist at the end.
- 21:03I it just, it was a whole lot of like build up and it didn't
- 21:11really amount to a ton for me. OK, I now you just say that.
- 21:15I think I can agree with you that the protagonist is a bit
- 21:18weak. Jamie isn't exactly the best
- 21:21person to lead us through this. And I don't necessarily think
- 21:24it's his fault. I think it's the way, like, it
- 21:28was done. Like we're just supposed to be
- 21:29like, oh, yes, obviously we feel for this man because his wife
- 21:34died and he's being accused of killing her.
- 21:36But we don't see any of the stakes for that.
- 21:38Yeah, yeah. I mean, honestly, I at least it
- 21:41has like, you know, Donnie just like tracking him down and just
- 21:45popping up in random places. It's just like, hey, what are
- 21:47you doing here, punk? Yeah, and that's fun.
- 21:49That's fun for me. But it also kind of takes away
- 21:52from, like I said, the big like moment at the end, which is
- 21:55still like, it's an interesting twist.
- 21:58It's a fun twist and I completely forgot about it, but
- 22:02the IT has. The stepmom.
- 22:04Yeah, yeah. But it has less of an impact
- 22:07when you haven't really cared that much about this guy until
- 22:11then. Yeah, Jamie, you're right, Jamie
- 22:13is weak. He's more of a vehicle to like,
- 22:16take us to interesting things in this movie.
- 22:19Yeah. But yeah, yeah, you're right,
- 22:23he's not exactly the best. They just didn't really make us
- 22:27care about. Him, yeah.
- 22:28And I similarly I wish that we'd gotten more back story on Mary
- 22:31Shaw, because one flashback does not a motive make.
- 22:36Just because one kid heckled. Yeah, and she got accused of
- 22:41kidnapping and which, I mean, she did, but make us care.
- 22:44It kind of like, imagine if that's all we got with Candyman.
- 22:48But that's not what we get. Like we have so much woven in
- 22:52there. There's so much like, social
- 22:54commentary that's going on. And by the time like everything
- 22:59happens and he takes hell in, like you care so much about
- 23:04like, not necessarily. I love candy, man.
- 23:05But you're like, man, that's a really fucked up thing that
- 23:07happened to him. And I kind of understand why
- 23:09he's a bad guy. Like you get all of that.
- 23:11You don't get this as much with Mary Shaw.
- 23:13I would have liked to have a little bit more of like.
- 23:15I think with Mary Shaw, they wanted to go more of like the
- 23:17creepy person and didn't want to make her sympathetic and they
- 23:21make her actually really creepy in this movie.
- 23:22They do a good job. With that I mean like the whole
- 23:25being turned into it all when she was like that was in her
- 23:28well, like. That was really good.
- 23:29I know that you mentioned it like yeah, can.
- 23:31We just put weird shit like that in our wills and people have to
- 23:33do it. Yeah, you gotta do.
- 23:36This too. God I need to go talk to a
- 23:37lawyer. I need to trash some shit up.
- 23:41Like does she? Did Jessie have a will written?
- 23:43No, she just like had this one weird request.
- 23:45She wanted to be turned into a fucking doll.
- 23:47Yeah, I wanted to hollow it out back with like the little
- 23:50trigger and everything, and that's you have me propped up
- 23:52grading everybody at my funeral. I mean, OK, all right, we'll
- 23:58make it work. That's one fucked up funeral
- 24:01I've actually seen. Don't need to talk about this.
- 24:04No, I've seen forest funerals. No, no, now you must share with
- 24:09the class. Well, OK, it was a video that I
- 24:13saw and it was, it's some other country I don't know.
- 24:19Apparently they handle funeral's a completely different way.
- 24:22But you know how in Mario Kart, like when you're selecting your
- 24:28driver, they're sitting in their go Kart and like the the
- 24:33character model is just like doing the 360.
- 24:35That way you can see everything. Well, they had this guy in a
- 24:41boxcar at his funeral staged up like driving and it's just doing
- 24:48that. It's just slowly like rotating
- 24:50and everybody's partying. That actually sounds really
- 24:53awesome. Yeah.
- 24:54I mean, it's like. It's real dark, but it's.
- 24:56Maybe that guy is Will was like he went to this guy is like, can
- 24:59I be a Mario Kart character? I would whenever.
- 25:03I'm having my funeral. Yeah, I.
- 25:05Wonder if funeral directors prefer those or if they just
- 25:07like the standard. Yeah.
- 25:09Yeah, like, you know, Yeah, that's a great question.
- 25:13We'll have to we'll get one on the podcast and we'll.
- 25:16Interview. Them and we'll, we'll dive deep
- 25:18into this subject. OK, Well, I think this is a
- 25:21perfect segue into ugly. OK, so ugly for me.
- 25:27I thought it was really shitty that the dad painted out his
- 25:30dead wives. Dude, that's effort.
- 25:33That is so much fucking effort. I know like and it's just it's
- 25:38such a fuck you to his like dead wives and his son.
- 25:43Yeah, cuz his son. Oh sorry, you can't see a
- 25:45picture of mom anymore. She had the audacity to die.
- 25:50Yeah, so. And why were they dying?
- 25:52Did he? I mean he it was sketchy, like
- 25:54he fucking killed them, right? That's what I'm saying.
- 25:56There's so. Much more there that we could
- 25:58have done with these family relationships.
- 26:01Yeah. Like, there was so much there
- 26:03that would have made it more impactful.
- 26:04Other than like dude is next level petty and rich.
- 26:08Yeah, I mean, but it's just like, fuck, man, like.
- 26:11That's some King Henry and the eighth shit like.
- 26:13Yeah, it is. Yeah.
- 26:16What was your ugly? I guess, you know, vigilante
- 26:19justice is always going to be, like, rough.
- 26:22But also, she did kidnap the boy and turn him into it all.
- 26:25So I'm conflicted. Yeah.
- 26:30I mean it's. Just Yeah, you're right.
- 26:34There's a time and place. I don't know.
- 26:36She had it coming. She.
- 26:38Turned she turned a fucking. Child into a doll for calling
- 26:41her out. I agree.
- 26:43But also like the mom didn't know that she had.
- 26:46They just suspected that's. True, you didn't.
- 26:50Have proof that's. True, they basically.
- 26:52Did a witch hunt but also like how?
- 26:54Soon. Did she die after that?
- 26:56That's not clear, because what did they even do to her?
- 26:59They cut out. They made her.
- 27:00Scream. And when she screamed, they cut
- 27:02out her tongue. That's right.
- 27:03But that makes me think that she screams like a cartoon
- 27:05character. And she goes, yeah.
- 27:09Like eyes popping out too. Yeah.
- 27:11So I just. I have.
- 27:12A lot of questions from that, Yeah, I'm gonna say like child
- 27:15murder, people murder. That's how he wrote it in the.
- 27:19Script and they're like we need a script doctor for this is like
- 27:22Lee, we can't do this shit. You can't.
- 27:23Lee, this is dark. You have so many child murders
- 27:27in here, you can have one one. Yeah, so.
- 27:33There's just like ugliness all around.
- 27:34Also the fact that this kind of an extension on the trope, I
- 27:39guess like with the like oh man, he was going to propose and no
- 27:43one of them is dead. Like oh man, she was going to
- 27:46tell them that they were going to have a baby and now she's
- 27:49dead and he's learning it from a creepy clown doll man.
- 27:53You're right, it is. Yeah.
- 27:55I didn't expect the clown to keep actually say anything.
- 27:59Yeah. It was like, don't do that, man.
- 28:02You don't slowly inch closer to the clown when it's trying to,
- 28:05like, tell you a secret. It's just like, rule #1 right
- 28:09there. OK, absurd.
- 28:13Well. I thought it was funny.
- 28:16I guess it makes sense afterwards.
- 28:17But like, the funeral director Henry, right?
- 28:20Yeah. Whenever, like, we see him
- 28:22taking a picture, he has the fucking, probably the very first
- 28:25camera ever built. And it's like, why are you still
- 28:28using that, man? Like, it's 2007.
- 28:31We got fucking mirrorless cameras out there now.
- 28:33Even like a fucking like a little disposable film camera.
- 28:37But like, it was one of those ones where you have to like,
- 28:39take it. You have to like, extend the
- 28:41fucking lens. And it's just like probably
- 28:43weighs 100 lbs. It's just, it was it was a
- 28:46little funny to see him use that.
- 28:48That guy is married to that technology.
- 28:52I also loved Donnie Wahlberg just constantly shaving and just
- 28:55about every scene. And then also.
- 28:58Not only was there the constant shaving, but these captions,
- 29:02these are like Screen Factory level of captions, which if you
- 29:05guys have listened to us talk about any of the Screen Factory
- 29:08editions of movies we have, the captions are wild.
- 29:10They do not pay their captionists enough.
- 29:12They go rogue. Sometimes they go rogue and they
- 29:14went rogue with Donnie Wahlberg because when he died at the end,
- 29:17he falls, his shaver falls out of his pocket.
- 29:19And then the captions say cell phone buzzes.
- 29:21And I'm like my friend, that is not a cell phone.
- 29:24He has been shaving himself for this entire movie.
- 29:26It's not very, it's not a very good shaver as you can see the
- 29:30scruff still on him. Also why is his neck not like
- 29:33irritated as hell? He should have at least a few
- 29:36like very nasty ingrowns. That was the thing I was
- 29:38thinking about, like. That's just going to, that's
- 29:41just a bad time, man. Like like if you shave like that
- 29:44and you just like don't do anything, you're going to be
- 29:46fucking itchy all day. It's just not going to be fun.
- 29:50I use an epilator. On my legs, which is OW but you
- 29:53get used to it eventually and like I immediately I have to do
- 29:56like a whole exfoliating and moisture moisturizing process so
- 29:59I don't get any ingrown hairs on my legs.
- 30:01I can't imagine just like raw dog in my neck the way he is.
- 30:05And he like, he just does it everywhere.
- 30:07So like everywhere this man is, he just like leaves his fucking
- 30:10neck hair all over the place. Yeah, that's.
- 30:13Sorry about that. Yeah, he just like walks into
- 30:16your. Room and just like shakes this
- 30:17like fucking shirt collars. Oh shit, sorry.
- 30:19That's like the equivalent of. Me when I get nervous and I pick
- 30:22off my nail Polish and I just leave little nail Polish.
- 30:26Yeah, you do that. Yeah, I see.
- 30:28Like, I'm like, oh, there's some Jesse now.
- 30:31OK. And final one.
- 30:33I I just think it's funny that they couldn't help themselves to
- 30:36do a saw a skinning. I know like.
- 30:39Even like the score. And it's like the editing, just
- 30:41like the quick shots of like the flashbacks.
- 30:43So like all these things like I mean, do you think, do you?
- 30:46Think Lee Wannell, James Wan and M Night Shyamalan have a support
- 30:50group of like directors that are expected to have A twist ending
- 30:53in their movies. Like do you think that that's.
- 30:56Like a they support each other. Like yeah, keep it doing like,
- 30:58keep doing it like you need A twist, buddy.
- 31:00You need kiss. How do we?
- 31:01Make a new and interesting place, yeah.
- 31:04Or do they? Do they?
- 31:05Like commiserate together like God damn it like how am I?
- 31:07Like why do I have to do this? Wait, which?
- 31:09Which? Fast and Furious, Was it the
- 31:11James Bond director 77? I'm trying to think so.
- 31:14The last one, Brian, Yeah. Where he drives away.
- 31:16So sad. Yeah.
- 31:18He didn't really have. Much of an option, yeah.
- 31:20No, he didn't have an. Option to do a twist.
- 31:22Yeah, you know, actually the twist.
- 31:23Is they didn't kill him off yeah, I'm sorry, but that's the
- 31:27twist of that movie Like Paul Paul Walker's character stays
- 31:31alive in universe and that's so because the next.
- 31:33Movie. They're like, well, obviously
- 31:34I'm going to name this nameless baby Brian, my friend who is
- 31:38definitely still alive and just doesn't adventure anymore.
- 31:41It just makes Dom come. Across as weird, like it's just
- 31:44like you're naming your son after your best friend.
- 31:47It's just like, hey man, I'm like what does this mean?
- 31:49Are you planning to kill me or something?
- 31:51Like, yes, only one person can have that name in the family.
- 31:56All right. What?
- 31:57What are your absurds? Oh man.
- 32:00I mean, I think the the shaving was definitely way up there, but
- 32:04also. I don't understand they have.
- 32:08A budget as big as they do. But all they keep doing is.
- 32:12Telling us that the town doesn't want to talk about Mary Shaw.
- 32:15That is, we don't see anybody. In.
- 32:17Town I want like, fucking like Silent Hill type thing where
- 32:22it's like this whole place is kind of weird.
- 32:25Like, I want more of that because then it also, like,
- 32:29makes sense why Donnie Wahlberg decides to be along for the
- 32:32ride, yeah. Yeah, I guess it would have been
- 32:35interesting to see that. While we're on the subject of
- 32:38the town, I think it's weird that he has to like, fucking
- 32:41take a boat from the cemetery to a theater.
- 32:44I kind of. Love that I want to go to a
- 32:47theater where I have to go there through rowboat.
- 32:50You have to row yourself. Yeah, you don't want to take a.
- 32:52Ferry. No.
- 32:54Actually, no, I don't want. I want somewhere between a ferry
- 32:57and a rowboat. I want like a gondola where
- 32:59there's like, where there's like a gondola.
- 33:02Yeah. The man is like he's singing to
- 33:04us and he's rowing us to the theater.
- 33:06It's a great date night. Yeah, the twist.
- 33:09Is this Donnie Wahlberg? No.
- 33:11That's not A twist. That's a perk.
- 33:13You advertise that shit right up front.
- 33:15You're right. Yeah.
- 33:15Because you know what Donnie Wahlberg can do?
- 33:17Dead silence. Mark Wahlberg cannot do silence.
- 33:20Dead silence. You're so right.
- 33:21He. Can't you know what I'm?
- 33:23Convinced now that Donnie Wahlberg could do other guys, he
- 33:27can. Honestly, he's a.
- 33:28Superior actor 1000% everything I've seen Johnny Wahlberg.
- 33:32And he has. Been way better than Mark
- 33:34Wahlberg. OK, OK.
- 33:36That's what they agreed. Upon in their like twist ending
- 33:39support group is that M Night gets Mark and suddenly when I'll
- 33:45get Donnie and that's how I split up the Wahlberg.
- 33:49That's so weird. Now I'm just.
- 33:50Thinking of a weird situation where you want swap.
- 33:54It's really. Wahlberg.
- 33:55Swapping, yeah. They're swing.
- 33:58Swapberg, Swabberg. I want that to be A twist in one
- 34:02of the movies, like where like we're following like one of the
- 34:04Wahlberg's, but then at the end it ends up being the other
- 34:07Wahlberg. Yeah, yeah.
- 34:08Like no, just. Reduce.
- 34:10All four except Art Blank is played by Mark Wahlberg.
- 34:14Perfect. I would love that so much.
- 34:18OK. Let's let's rate it.
- 34:20Let's rate it. All right, like I said, I
- 34:23actually. Like this movie, I did have a
- 34:24good time with it. I'm going to give it a Nate.
- 34:26I've given you a four. Whoa, I didn't realize you
- 34:29didn't. Like this movie this much I
- 34:31really wanted to. Like it more after so many years
- 34:36and I just left film. Wow, I am so surprised.
- 34:41I am too honestly. I I really wanted to like it.
- 34:45I'm so sorry. Well, we have a starting average
- 34:48of. Six.
- 34:49Well, OK, that's not bad. Hey, that's like, isn't that the
- 34:51IMDb? 6.1.
- 34:55Yeah, it was something like that, that.
- 34:57Almost. Never happens.
- 34:59Yeah, we'll get you taking. This.
- 35:01I'm sorry. OK.
- 35:04Well, are we ready to get into it then?
- 35:06Yes. OK.
- 35:08So in the 6th century BC, it was believed that the spirits of the
- 35:11dead would speak through the stomach region of the living.
- 35:15From the Latin Venter for belly and Loki for to speak.
- 35:20That's where we get ventriloquist.
- 35:22I'm just taking. Away the belly and the Latin and
- 35:25this right here. I like that I got a.
- 35:28Compliment Talia's Venter from now on, yeah.
- 35:32And a great. Venture Puppy.
- 35:33Yeah. OK, so we we, we know.
- 35:35Where a ventriloquist comes from.
- 35:36A great way to start. We're off to a hot start here.
- 35:39Yeah, we got like a. History lesson and a language
- 35:42lesson, yeah. So it's nice.
- 35:44It's kind of them. We also.
- 35:45In the opening credits, get drawing lessons because we just
- 35:48see all these sketches of dummies.
- 35:51You got to. You got to get those.
- 35:52Measurements, right? Yeah, there's like a little
- 35:54sketch on there. Or like a little note saying
- 35:55something about making the perfect doll.
- 35:58So then we cut. To a man under the sink just
- 36:02decided to have his face right up under the pipe when he pulled
- 36:05it apart. Yeah, I I couldn't tell.
- 36:08I thought like at first this was like a hired plumber and we were
- 36:11like stepping into a maybe porno.
- 36:14Because like, she's kind of like.
- 36:16She's being a little like, you know, saucy with him.
- 36:20Yeah, but he's, he's under the kitchen sink trying to fix the
- 36:23plumbing. And instead of sex, we're
- 36:26talking about dinner. And she's wanting Chinese.
- 36:28I get it. Yeah, I get it too.
- 36:30Yeah. So after he's done doing that,
- 36:32he is going to run out and go get some Chinese.
- 36:34But there's a package at the door.
- 36:37And it's a ventriloquist dummy. They don't know who it's from.
- 36:41And I love this moment from Lisa.
- 36:44It's a dress to Jamie, by the way.
- 36:45Yeah. It's a dress to Jamie.
- 36:46But we got this moment from Lisa.
- 36:47She has It reminds me of that poem from when we were kids,
- 36:50Beware of the Stair of Mary Shaw.
- 36:52She had no children, only dolls. Something something, something
- 36:55scary. I loved it.
- 36:57I almost did that as my opening. I mean, I would do the same.
- 37:02Yeah, she's just like I. Don't know how good.
- 37:04Like you get it? Like you get it.
- 37:05It's going to be spooky, yeah. So it's a creepy looking doll.
- 37:10They don't really know why they got a doll, but they're going to
- 37:13keep it, I guess. And they set them up and they
- 37:15prop them up. Yeah, so.
- 37:18Jamie goes to pick up the Chinese food and Lisa figures
- 37:22out where to put this dummy because she wants to bang her
- 37:24husband when he gets back and doesn't want that dummy
- 37:26watching. Which valid?
- 37:29Absolutely. Valid.
- 37:31So she just props it up on the bed with a sheet over it, which
- 37:34I feel like is also creepy. That is incredibly.
- 37:39Creepy. Yeah.
- 37:40It's not better. I honestly if I came.
- 37:42Home and I saw that in our bed Hey baby that's a that's a no
- 37:50we're. Not doing anything, yeah.
- 37:53So then everything just kind of slows down bro.
- 37:59I love that it's so. Fucking cool.
- 38:01And it's like the record player dies or something.
- 38:03And yeah, and the tea kettle. Like is whistling, but then it
- 38:07silences. That's the one.
- 38:08Especially because. You can't explain that.
- 38:10You can explain a record player dying, but the tea just stopped
- 38:13teeing. No, and Lisa is.
- 38:15Looking in the mirror, she's doing the Bella.
- 38:18I just had sex for the first time and I'm super pregnant.
- 38:21Look at my like barely not flat belly.
- 38:24Yeah, and then she. Figures out something weird's
- 38:31going. On she goes into the bedroom and
- 38:33she's attacked. That's all we hear Yeah, she.
- 38:35I think she like. Hears.
- 38:37She hears voices. So she goes to investigate.
- 38:39Yeah. So Jamie gets home.
- 38:41He's got Chinese food and one single rose.
- 38:44What florist let him just have one single rose?
- 38:46Or maybe it was one of those people on the street.
- 38:48It was just like, rose for your lady.
- 38:50Could be. Yeah.
- 38:51And he comes in and the kettle's going off.
- 38:54He's like Lisa, Lisa, your kiddo's going off.
- 38:58Like he's so fucking casual. But honestly, I kind of agree
- 39:03with Detective Donnie. Little suspicious.
- 39:05He seems suspicious. And then he walks in the hallway
- 39:07and he sees the blood, and he's like, Lisa, what's going on
- 39:12here? Come on, Lisa, it feels.
- 39:14Like it could be from Scary Movie, like how oblivious this
- 39:17guy is. But to be fair.
- 39:19He is hearing her and she is sounding calm.
- 39:21She's like, yeah, Jamie, I'm here.
- 39:24Listen if you came. Home.
- 39:25Even if I was talking to you, if you find all that blood in the
- 39:27hallway, please react more. Oh, I would be like, freaked.
- 39:31The fuck out for sure, yeah. He's not though.
- 39:33He's way too level headed. Yeah.
- 39:35And then? He sees that she's dead.
- 39:38Yeah. Got her tongue ripped.
- 39:39Out tongue is ripped. All the way out.
- 39:42So he's at the police station and he's just kind of shell
- 39:44shocked. And then detective dying, just
- 39:46like Rose isn't a good out of my brother.
- 39:49Yeah, he's like. Yeah, I knew you fucked up.
- 39:52Your first mistake was bringing the Rose.
- 39:54I'm like, really Like Detective Donnie only sees.
- 39:58Dudes that hate their wives. So he can't contemplate like,
- 40:00somebody just actually bringing his wife something nice.
- 40:03Yeah, Which I get it, like, that's his job, right?
- 40:05But. This is pretty hard.
- 40:07She's like, you tried too hard to make it look like you love
- 40:10your wife, you hate your wife, you killed your wife.
- 40:13And then Jamie's Australian slips the tiniest bit and he
- 40:17goes, what do you mean Leeser was murdered?
- 40:20Leeser. Leeser.
- 40:22That's one. Of the slips right there.
- 40:24Yeah, yeah. That's a.
- 40:25Tale of the dollar. Oh man.
- 40:26He's like you didn't. Love your wife and you're
- 40:29Australian. Don't even know her name.
- 40:32Yeah. Jamie is like, yeah, well if
- 40:36you're going to look into anything that's suspicious, how
- 40:39about the fucking dummy that was delivered to my door right
- 40:41before the murder and steady Dong is like a.
- 40:44Dummy didn't commit this murder, and Jamie says, well, in my
- 40:49hometown, people would think that the dummy had done it.
- 40:52Yeah. And detected Dong is like, what?
- 40:54Yeah, it's a bad. Omen.
- 40:56It's an omen of death where he's from, apparently.
- 40:58Yeah. Which what?
- 41:01Yeah. I, I don't know, you know, like
- 41:03we're slowly getting the pieces here, I guess a little bit,
- 41:07yeah. Whatever, he goes back to his
- 41:11apartment, pulls the cover off of the box that the dummy was
- 41:14delivered in and it says Mary Shawn, Billy Ravens Fair.
- 41:16So he drives to Ravens Fair and he goes to his dad's house and
- 41:22meets his dad's new wife. I don't want to call her his
- 41:25stepmother because he's a full adult.
- 41:27It's at a certain. Point it stops.
- 41:30You don't call. You don't adopt the stepmother
- 41:32role whenever they're already adults.
- 41:34Yeah, it's. It's a little bit and I think I
- 41:38wouldn't call her mom. I would.
- 41:39Call her by her name? Probably yes.
- 41:42And it's also just like the whole like he's never even met
- 41:44her. So it just feels really weird to
- 41:45be like stepmom. Like it's like you're you're
- 41:48dad's wife. So what do you censor?
- 41:51Hello. Dad's wife.
- 41:52Not, I mean, not exactly. But basically, yeah, yeah.
- 41:56So he talks to his dad, who is like, I had a stroke two months
- 42:01ago, I tried to call you. You don't answer your phone
- 42:03ever. I guess I wasn't a good dad to
- 42:05you. I guess maybe that's what you're
- 42:08trying to tell me. I don't know.
- 42:10They're they're going over. There, there's troubled past,
- 42:13but he's like, no, I'm not actually here to talk about
- 42:14that. I hear, I hear, I hear to ask
- 42:17you something. I hear.
- 42:19To ask. He's not.
- 42:20He's not only. Australian.
- 42:21He's also southern. Yeah, yeah.
- 42:23He's like, he asked about the poem.
- 42:25I guess he's like, he just wants to know if, like, there's
- 42:29anything to it. Yeah, but.
- 42:31Ellen, his dad's wife, Ella. Ella is it Ella OK, is like is
- 42:39able to recite the rest of the poem.
- 42:41The something something scary is and if you see her in your
- 42:43dream, never ever, ever scream. Yep, Yep.
- 42:46That's the rules. And then?
- 42:48As he is. Leaving Ella is like talking to
- 42:50him. And it's like, listen, I think
- 42:52your dad's really a changed person.
- 42:53And he was like, do you see all of these portraits?
- 42:55My mom used to be in this one. His second wife used to be in
- 42:58this one. His third wife used to be in
- 43:00this one. So good on you for outliving him
- 43:03because he won't be able to hire somebody to paint you out.
- 43:05I think it's also just really. Funny that like the dad is like,
- 43:09he's like, I want us it. It makes it come across as like
- 43:12I wanted a painting of me and my son standing next to this chair.
- 43:16Like we really like this chair. I wish we had seen.
- 43:19Like one of the paintings taken off the wall and like halfway
- 43:22finished with him. Like partially painted out
- 43:24because his dad is mad he hasn't been answering his phone calls.
- 43:28That would have been. Amazing.
- 43:29Like, Oh my God, great. It's like.
- 43:35It's like an extra fuck you to that part in a Silver Linings
- 43:38Playbook where they just took down the portrait.
- 43:41Like this time you're just painting over it.
- 43:43That would have been amazing. I would have loved that.
- 43:46So yeah, he goes to the funeral. Home to work with the funeral
- 43:49director on the funeral. And this is actually probably
- 43:52the most realistic part where the guy's asking 1,000,000
- 43:55questions and you're like, Jesus Christ, I didn't know planning a
- 43:57funeral was this intensive. Yeah, it is because it is.
- 44:00Even. If you have it like pre planned,
- 44:02your family still has to do with a lot of extra shit.
- 44:05Yeah, it's, it's it's. A lot of running around to do,
- 44:07yeah. And he the funeral director,
- 44:12Henry says, like, we can't talk about Mary Shaw.
- 44:13We're not talking about that. I will get your wife's body
- 44:16ready once the police send her over the releasing her tonight,
- 44:20which seems really quick for a suspected homicide.
- 44:25Yeah, like an autopsy. Have they autopsy I?
- 44:28Doubt they bought autopsy. Yeah, probably.
- 44:31Not yeah. Wouldn't he be doing the autopsy
- 44:34though? They go to like they take them
- 44:35to the Funeral Home to perform those.
- 44:38I don't. No.
- 44:40If it's like an autopsy for like a homicide type thing, then
- 44:43that's like an actual like forensic pathology or forensic
- 44:49medical examiner. They have to do all of that I
- 44:52all of my knowledge. About this is purely from the
- 44:54autopsy of Jane Doe, OK, which is just like them performing an
- 44:58autopsy at the Funeral Home, I just don't think.
- 45:02Henry is specifically qualified as a medical examiner.
- 45:06I guess maybe not Whatever. And I also feel like.
- 45:11Jamie might be coming from a town big enough to have its own,
- 45:14like County Medical examiner, but dude, we don't know.
- 45:18We don't. That's where we don't.
- 45:19Know as far as we know. This town consists of this
- 45:23couple, the dad and Ella and Donnie Walker, and that's where
- 45:28when Henry is. Saying like the town doesn't
- 45:30talk about Mary Shaw. He's like me.
- 45:32I'm the I'm the whole town. I am the town, yeah.
- 45:35OK now we are at the motel and Jamie is just going to get some
- 45:39shut eye, get some rest in this creepy ass hotel and he props up
- 45:43Billy. We don't know it's Billy yet,
- 45:44but the doll in the no, we do know it's Billy.
- 45:47Is that it on the bucks? Oh OK.
- 45:49I never before. He left, isn't it?
- 45:51Funny that. Like they couldn't come up with
- 45:53another name for a doll. This team, I think every.
- 45:55Oh. My God, I didn't even make that
- 45:58connection. You didn't?
- 45:59No, they're both like. Saw Billy this Billy?
- 46:01Well, it's just like ventriloquist dummies.
- 46:03Of course it's going to be called Billy.
- 46:04To me it just seems like obvious I guess.
- 46:07I feel like. This movie like you can do a
- 46:09shared universe with all the creepy dolls that like James Wan
- 46:14has directed. You can do Annabelle.
- 46:16This one, Billy, that's the other Billy.
- 46:20But that's enough, yeah. Sorry.
- 46:22OK, really creepy scene. Yes, dead silence happens.
- 46:26Everything grinds down to a complete quiet creaky sounds and
- 46:30then we see the doll's eye shift and that's just said they dilate
- 46:33a little bit. So now it's the next.
- 46:36Day, Yeah, the funeral director. Has received Lisa's body and he
- 46:40like goes it can't be. It can't be and he gets that old
- 46:44ass. Camera out and takes a picture
- 46:46of it and then he hears his wife.
- 46:48Marion, who has crawled into the crawl space because she seems to
- 46:52be having some neurocognitive decline, which is really sad.
- 46:56Oh, yeah. OK.
- 46:57Then we just kind of cut to the funeral.
- 46:59Yeah. It just.
- 47:00It's just. Happening, yeah, and the whole.
- 47:02Town is there. It's the entire town.
- 47:04The. Entire town is.
- 47:05There. And Marianne, like, is wandering
- 47:09in the woods. And Jamie finds her and she
- 47:11goes. You saw her in your dreams,
- 47:12didn't you? You saw her.
- 47:14You mustn't, you mustn't scream. And then Henry's like, Oh my
- 47:17God, I can't like, I can't do this.
- 47:18What did I say? We're not talking about this.
- 47:20We were just not talking about this.
- 47:23And then like. He's wandering around like as.
- 47:25He is taking Mary at away. She's like, you got to bury the
- 47:27doll. He sees the tombstone.
- 47:31Of Mary Shaw there too, and he's like, OK, I guess I got to bury,
- 47:34like, here. Yeah, so.
- 47:36He waits until night, as you do. That's the proper time.
- 47:40It's the. Kind time to.
- 47:41Do grave robbing. It's the opposite of.
- 47:44Grave robbing though he's grave giving.
- 47:49He's grave giving. Why don't more people do that?
- 47:52Actually, that's terrible. That's just killing.
- 47:55That's just murder. You.
- 47:57You. Immediately answered your own
- 47:59question. That's great.
- 47:59That was that was really great to watch that whole like process
- 48:03of development in you. I just, I like that as an
- 48:06excuse. I'm not a killer, I'm just a
- 48:07grave giver, you know? OK.
- 48:13So, yeah, he's there at night. He finds Billy's headstone,
- 48:15which this explains it so much better later when we find out
- 48:18that all of the dolls had to be buried because I was just like,
- 48:21damn. Henry didn't bother to learn a
- 48:23single person's last name in Raven's Fair because we had
- 48:26like, Gregory Robert Delilah. Yeah, it's a lot.
- 48:33And they're. Also really tiny graves.
- 48:35I'm like is this just like children?
- 48:36Like what the fuck but digs it up.
- 48:39I would also be rude to. The child, if they only had
- 48:42their first name on there, unless they're like Don Tretto's
- 48:45baby that didn't have a name for the first six months of his
- 48:48life. Yeah, yeah.
- 48:50He digs up Billy's grave and opens up the coffin and it's
- 48:54empty. Yeah, nothing in there.
- 48:56And he just puts. The doll in there, and the
- 48:58doll's head turns and he goes. Not going to read too much into
- 49:01that. Yeah, that's creepy, but
- 49:02whatever. And he goes.
- 49:04Back to the motel. He well, he starts to go back to
- 49:09the hotel. Things get a little creepy.
- 49:12Billy pops it by the window and then that's it.
- 49:15Yeah, it's just a little. Jump scare, which is really.
- 49:18Anticlimactic after having watched Strangers Chapter 2 with
- 49:22her scene in the car in the woods.
- 49:24I don't want to spoil that for anybody, but that was probably
- 49:26my favorite scene of the whole movie.
- 49:27It was pretty, pretty crazy, yeah.
- 49:30So next day he's in Montel and he showering, Yeah.
- 49:35He leaves the bathroom. And then he's got a wild Donnie
- 49:37Wahlberg sitting in the corner of his fucking Montel.
- 49:39Which do you think he was more scared to see cuz?
- 49:41Billy's propped up on the bed and Donnie Wahlberg is shaved in
- 49:44the corner. Like, do you think he was that?
- 49:46That is terrifying. This man is like.
- 49:49I was partially prepared for Billy to come back out of the
- 49:52grave. Yeah.
- 49:53Wasn't ready for Detective Donnie.
- 49:54Like, yeah. Billy, he gets a well, like
- 49:58Donnie. Yeah, exactly.
- 50:01And he's like, what? Part of don't leave the city.
- 50:04Did you not understand? He's like I needed to bury my
- 50:06wife which OK I'm just not realizing the problem with this.
- 50:10I get the concept of if you're both from the same hometown you
- 50:14would go to the family graves. Where the fuck is Laser's family
- 50:18lasers? You're right.
- 50:20Where? Like they did?
- 50:21No, they came from the same place.
- 50:22Because she knew the thing too. Yeah, but why were they?
- 50:25Not at the funeral, you're right.
- 50:27Why were? They not there I like wouldn't
- 50:29it have been? Great to have like a moment with
- 50:31like the family being like slapping.
- 50:34Him or something also thinking. He committed the murder, working
- 50:37with and refusing. To.
- 50:39Acknowledge the dummies that way.
- 50:40It just seems more and more like Jamie's paranoid.
- 50:43Thank God there's so many. Damn you're.
- 50:45Right. For the scripts that would have.
- 50:47Been good. Did I hear this right?
- 50:52I, I think I heard like him say, like he asked Don, he's like,
- 50:56why are you even here? And he's like, oh, what?
- 50:58You're not the only one in town for a funeral.
- 50:59Like did he also attend there for like a separate funeral?
- 51:04I. Assumed that he was like vaguely
- 51:06threatening Jamie. Was that AI don't know like?
- 51:09Because he wouldn't know that he went to Ravens fair.
- 51:14Oh, I, he said. You're.
- 51:15Not the only one here to visit a cemetery because he was going to
- 51:19go check out the cemeteries. OK.
- 51:21Yeah, that. Makes sense?
- 51:22OK, so he's like, say he like. Buried the evidence because like
- 51:28it's. Evidence at this.
- 51:29Point. So he takes the doll and he's.
- 51:31Like, I'll be seeing your neighbor and that's how we find
- 51:33out that they're neighbors in the motel.
- 51:35Which makes sense because if there's only like 4 people in
- 51:38Raven's Fair, there would only be a 2 room motel.
- 51:40Yeah, that's just. So fun.
- 51:42I wish they shared a wall and had like one of those doors they
- 51:45like you could just go and like Jamie keeps trying to keep it.
- 51:49Locked. But Donnie keeps picking the
- 51:51lock and he's like, I'm an officer, you can't do this.
- 51:53This will be some. Yeah.
- 51:55And so in the morning. Jamie breaks into Detective
- 51:58Donnie's motel room to get Billy and he takes Billy to Marion so
- 52:03he can try and get more information.
- 52:05Henry is terrified when he gets there because he is afraid of
- 52:10both Mary and Mary Shaw and Billy and this is where we get
- 52:14the background. Mary Shaw was a ventriloquist
- 52:17who lost. Her voice.
- 52:20So there was. A show, one of her last shows in
- 52:24town, she was doing her performance and this little
- 52:27shitty kid Heckler was like, your lips are moving and Mary
- 52:31Shaw can all take an ounce of criticism.
- 52:34She could have just. Like, worked with it and done
- 52:36crowd work, which she kind of does here, but then she takes
- 52:39it. It's not fun.
- 52:40Yeah. She Yeah.
- 52:42She she makes a fool of him, which poorly, but the crowd eats
- 52:47it up. Yeah, and I was just.
- 52:49You were confused. Like what?
- 52:51Happened where did where did he get served?
- 52:53Can you pinpoint the moment that this child got served?
- 52:55Yes, I like. I want that Simpsons Ralph
- 52:58heartbreak moment. I wanted to be able to pause,
- 53:01pause right there and see the moment.
- 53:03Yeah. Because.
- 53:04I like the scene finished and I was like did I miss something?
- 53:08Like what is the most? What is so?
- 53:09Egregious you like. You oh why happened?
- 53:12I'm like I explained. Everything and you're like, no,
- 53:14but like, but why? Like why was he hurt?
- 53:16Like what? All she did was say who's the
- 53:18dummy? Now, yeah, and she didn't even
- 53:20she's. She's just it.
- 53:23It was bad crowd work, but I don't know, apparently like that
- 53:25was like devastated him back. In the day, that was some
- 53:28heinous. Shit, it devastated that little
- 53:30boy. And he disappeared a week later
- 53:33and nobody found out whatever happened to him, but they all
- 53:36suspected it has something to do with Mary Shaw.
- 53:38And then she was just dead. We're skipping over the details
- 53:43on that. But she's dead.
- 53:44She has to be buried with her dolls.
- 53:46And she also wanted to become one.
- 53:48And young Henry, who is played by a young Paul from It Follows.
- 53:53Yeah. And I also want to.
- 53:55Just point out that kid kept the fucking hairstyle of a 5 year
- 53:59old all the way up until he was in his 20s.
- 54:02Yeah, he's got long hair now. Yeah, he's got long hair.
- 54:04It's just funny. He looks exactly.
- 54:05He's like the same kid, just shrunk.
- 54:08Yeah, like we're both. Like, yeah, no, that's Paul.
- 54:11That's Paul for sure. So he snuck into because the
- 54:14Funeral Home is the family business.
- 54:16So he snuck into seeing Mary Shaw's body and almost, I'm
- 54:21going to say he almost gets killed because he knocked the
- 54:25coffin over. It should have squished his tiny
- 54:27little body. It should like I was thinking
- 54:29the. Entire time.
- 54:29Like the way that he is standing and like the way it's falling.
- 54:32It should have landed directly on him, but it didn't.
- 54:35It didn't. It falls beside him.
- 54:36Yeah. The coffin pops open and Mary
- 54:38Shaw's body falls out and she's turned into a dummy doll.
- 54:41And This is why you. Guys need to write into corncob
- 54:44TV and tell them that you want him to stay on the air because
- 54:48we need shows like Coffin Flop Coffin, Yeah.
- 54:51Coffin flop. Yeah, honestly, this is the
- 54:53pilot, right? Yeah, it's a bait and switch
- 54:57because everybody thinks it's gonna be a horror show, but it
- 54:59actually it gets a little campy in the later series.
- 55:03It was a backdoor pilot. OK.
- 55:05There's just like just. In case we have potential here
- 55:07with this idea. Yeah, but that's a traumatizing
- 55:10thing to have happen to you. Not only just seeing the fucking
- 55:14dead body like that, but where it's cut with a dummy mouth and
- 55:19it's just scary. They make the Mary Shaw
- 55:21character actually scary in the scene.
- 55:24You know what? I.
- 55:25Wanna crossover between Dead Silence and Leatherface?
- 55:28I want the Mary Shaw prequel and they bring in Bubba to because
- 55:33that's the ultimate arts and crafts.
- 55:35But he would. Take her face, but maybe he
- 55:38would give her one of. His old masks he doesn't use
- 55:40anymore. Oh, he gives.
- 55:41Her a face, Yeah. Grave.
- 55:43Giving. He's grave giving.
- 55:45That's dead silence to grave giving.
- 55:48Yeah. We got the crossover right.
- 55:50Here we go. Pre sequel.
- 55:52We'll be waiting. For your call.
- 55:53Yeah, Anyone know? Hit us up, baby.
- 55:56You don't have to doctor the script.
- 55:58It's already written, yeah. That's all you need, yeah.
- 56:02Yeah. And then?
- 56:03All of a sudden murder started happening.
- 56:05Everybody was missing a tongue after the fact, and everybody
- 56:07moved away from Raven's Fair. That wasn't murdered.
- 56:09It's all everybody. Involved with the killing yeah,
- 56:12because he also reveals that like there was a mob justice
- 56:15because the ashen. Family owns Raven Town.
- 56:19They are Raven's Fair. I mean, Raven's Fair.
- 56:21Yeah, yeah. For.
- 56:22The whole town, the entire mob was the Ashton family.
- 56:28We don't know that yet, but we're going to find that out.
- 56:31Why though, does? Henry feel like he has to take a
- 56:34picture of every victim. I don't know.
- 56:37We don't really. Get that answer.
- 56:39Maybe he also. Thinks he's supposed to be
- 56:41performing the autopsy and he's like I know people take pictures
- 56:45during autopsies he but he doesn't it's.
- 56:47Like a thing, like he has to do it as a part of this thing or
- 56:50else he'll die. I think I'm just I'm.
- 56:53During my annual rewatch of Scream Queens and I'm just
- 56:56picturing the first season, the woman in the asylum who's like,
- 56:59I paint them all. Like sometimes like I shoot them
- 57:03all. I guess he does.
- 57:05Yeah, it's something like. I wish that we had an
- 57:08explanation. But anyways, we now see there's
- 57:14this amazing transition shot that I love where it's like
- 57:19Jamie is sitting there and then we see the map and it zooms into
- 57:22the map, and then the map turns into the landscape and it's him
- 57:25driving down the road and he's got Billy in the car with him.
- 57:29It's going to take Billy back to get buried again.
- 57:32And meanwhile, Detective. Donnie is out at the cemetery
- 57:35trying to try and gather some information.
- 57:38He's digging up Mary Shaw. 'S grave, yes, Yeah.
- 57:42Jamie goes to the theater, which was also Mary Shaw's house.
- 57:46Again, I kind of like this lady style.
- 57:49You have to take a rowboat or ferry or the in betweener
- 57:54gondola to get to her home. Yeah, yeah, you know it.
- 57:57Is kind of cool, but like I feel like it seems like she.
- 58:00Would have had very early warning that the mob was coming
- 58:03to do vigilante justice on her cuz like oh look at all the row
- 58:06boats coming. I should probably hide.
- 58:09I'm just like. I'm just thinking of like it
- 58:12would just of bringing groceries back to your house.
- 58:14Like that shit sucks. Like I got to go back to my car
- 58:16and get another Mary Shaw for sure just ate.
- 58:18Like cockroaches. Like, you're right, you're
- 58:20right. She was a very tiny person.
- 58:25Tiny person creepy. As hell she ate cockroaches.
- 58:29OK. Yeah, you're right.
- 58:31Yeah. So he while he's there.
- 58:32He's looking around. He almost dies on the little
- 58:35like walkway up at the top behind the stage.
- 58:40And he gets into her studio and finds her scrapbook with like,
- 58:44all of the doll design information and the newspaper
- 58:49article about the missing boy, whose name is Michael Asher or
- 58:52Ashton I, I think it's. Wild that she scrapbooks the
- 58:57stuff. What like.
- 58:59I get that we're supposed to believe, like, psychologically
- 59:03killers revel in their murders. Yeah, and that's why they keep
- 59:06things like that. But it's almost become as lazy
- 59:10as, like, no cell phone signal trope in horror movies.
- 59:13Like. Oh, OK, so we know she did the
- 59:16killing and she kept the newspaper article.
- 59:18Yeah. Yeah.
- 59:19But. Like what if she just really.
- 59:20Hated that guy and she was glad that like, he disappeared and
- 59:23she was like, good, that's plausible.
- 59:25Too, Because that little shit called her out.
- 59:27Yeah, and then this woman. Lives in a a creepy theater Moat
- 59:31and eats cockroaches. Of course she's going to
- 59:33scrapbook things. Even if she wasn't directly
- 59:35responsible for the murder. Yeah, you know what?
- 59:37I would. Buy If I were Detective Donnie.
- 59:39Honestly, that's a convincing story like Detective Donnie is.
- 59:43Probably Like how can I prove that Jamie made his great uncle
- 59:46disappear? Did he give him a rough 50
- 59:49years? Ago.
- 59:55Yeah, OK. So.
- 59:55He hears some some sounds and there's a ghost in the mirror.
- 59:59Yeah. That's it.
- 1:00:01Yeah, Henry. Here's Marian.
- 1:00:05Yeah, she's crying in the crawl space.
- 1:00:07This is one of those moments where it's like the.
- 1:00:08Distant crying. That's just really creepy.
- 1:00:11Yeah. And then he also.
- 1:00:12Hears another voice arguing with her and it's the sound of Billy
- 1:00:16and he's like OK, we're going to get Billy, we're going to take
- 1:00:20him, we're going to bury him. Not dealing with this anymore,
- 1:00:24but because he's hearing Marian cry, he's like I need to get her
- 1:00:26out of the crawl space first. And he gets in there.
- 1:00:29It stops sounding like Marian and starts sounding like Billy
- 1:00:31again. He sees Mary and he screams
- 1:00:33because of course you do, even though he knows you're not
- 1:00:35supposed to scream. He's in a crawl space with a
- 1:00:37ghost woman. She's who lived in a castle
- 1:00:40behind a Moat and it cockroaches and scrapbooked about
- 1:00:44disappearing children. Who wouldn't scream?
- 1:00:46Who wouldn't? Scream.
- 1:00:47Yeah, you're set up for failure. With her, honestly, it's not
- 1:00:50fair. Yeah.
- 1:00:51So yeah, he. Gets his tongue ripped out,
- 1:00:53yeah. And we see the aftermath.
- 1:00:54Immediately. Pretty brutal.
- 1:00:56Can I OK? So the set the sequel to this is
- 1:01:00the Texas Chainsaw crossover. But I want the rusty nail.
- 1:01:06Crossover to be the third one. It's like you taking out
- 1:01:09tongues. We've been taking out jaws to
- 1:01:11Mamacita. We're just gonna get this all
- 1:01:13out. It's like so.
- 1:01:15Obviously we got, we're gonna, I got this.
- 1:01:18We're gonna workshop this at the end.
- 1:01:20I mean, it's too soon to go into this now, but I've got this.
- 1:01:23OK? So Jamie goes back to confront
- 1:01:27his dad and his dad explains everything about his great
- 1:01:32uncle. I mean it's like it is his great
- 1:01:33uncle. The kid was vigilante.
- 1:01:36Yeah, vigilante groups sought her out, cut out her tongue, and
- 1:01:39then everybody involved in that was killed after one by one.
- 1:01:42And then also their wives, their children. 4th entry in this
- 1:01:47franchise's final destination. Yeah, Bloodlines.
- 1:01:50And. He's like, that's why I sent you
- 1:01:53away as a child because I wanted you as far away from this as
- 1:01:55possible. And James was like, well, sure
- 1:01:57didn't help when I got son of ventriloquist dummy did it.
- 1:02:01Got you there. Yeah.
- 1:02:02Checkmate. So he.
- 1:02:04Throws out and on his way out, what do you know when Donnie's
- 1:02:07at the door? Yeah, like.
- 1:02:11Tony's just everywhere. He's he's everywhere.
- 1:02:14Always. Like he is a fucking jump scare
- 1:02:16himself. I love it.
- 1:02:18I love it, I love. Jump scare Donnie.
- 1:02:20Yeah. And he's.
- 1:02:21Like he, he's like. You're he's trying.
- 1:02:27To arrest him, he's like, he's like all of the dolls were
- 1:02:29missing at the cemetery and Maria Shaw's body.
- 1:02:32You're creepy. You probably also eat
- 1:02:34cockroaches. I'm going to arrest you.
- 1:02:37And Jamie says bet. And he's just like manages to
- 1:02:41run away. He gets a call from.
- 1:02:42Henry. Not Henry and Henry's like.
- 1:02:46Meet me at her house. I've got proof that you didn't
- 1:02:49kill your wife. And Jamie's like she.
- 1:02:51He's got proof that I didn't kill my wife and Donnie's like,
- 1:02:53no, that's not how this works. That's a weak shit story.
- 1:02:57I'm going to. Arrest you.
- 1:02:58I'm not. Going to read your rights.
- 1:02:59I will grossly violate all of your rights, as a matter of
- 1:03:02fact, and I'm going to shave in front of you.
- 1:03:05It's just get in the car and Jamie's like he grabs him and
- 1:03:12throws it. It's not a shove, it is a grab
- 1:03:14and throw. Donnie sells that.
- 1:03:16Shit, he does he. Does he sells it better than
- 1:03:19some wrestlers? He is a flopper.
- 1:03:21In basketball, if you play pick up ball with Donnie, he he'll
- 1:03:25flop. So, Jamie.
- 1:03:28He runs. Do you think he had to do that
- 1:03:30with? Like growing up with Mark, cuz
- 1:03:34Mark probably couldn't stand loose like anything.
- 1:03:36So you have to worry. Donnie.
- 1:03:37Yeah. Donnie was like, all right, I
- 1:03:39gotta really sell. And self preservation, yeah.
- 1:03:43You gotta curl up and pretend you're dead or I was like.
- 1:03:46Yeah, honestly, yeah. What is this life that we have
- 1:03:53developed for this family? It's probably accurate.
- 1:03:57I feel like we need to. We need to watch some episodes
- 1:04:00of Hamburgers just to see what their what their dynamic really
- 1:04:03is. Yeah.
- 1:04:05OK so Jamie is in the car driving off, Donnie is in hot
- 1:04:08pursuit in his cop car and they make it.
- 1:04:11I'm surprised he doesn't have like the.
- 1:04:13Little like wee woo thing to put on top.
- 1:04:15He might not be a cop. OK, like honestly, that's
- 1:04:19another plausible response. What was the second?
- 1:04:22Twist to the movie. Yeah, like, cuz, cuz, Jamie,
- 1:04:25like, say he survives and he goes to the conversation.
- 1:04:28He was like, listen, I can tell you what happened to Detective
- 1:04:29Donnie. And they're like, he he lost his
- 1:04:32badge eight years ago. Yeah, he went missing as the
- 1:04:37victim of the Jigsaw Killer dude.
- 1:04:40That would have been awesome to tie it in right there cuz he's a
- 1:04:44cop in that Yeah. And we don't know what.
- 1:04:46City What city Jamie was living in beforehand, he could very
- 1:04:50easily be a resident of Saltville, Sawville, many of
- 1:04:53the. Saw films were filmed in Canada.
- 1:04:54Yeah, could be in the same place.
- 1:04:57Oh my God, it. Just keeps going deeper it does
- 1:05:00OK so they're. At the theater now, and Donnie
- 1:05:02catches up to him, but he's like, all right, I'm going to
- 1:05:05rush you for real this time. He's like, no, Henry's here.
- 1:05:07He's like, Henry is totally not here.
- 1:05:09And then not Henry's like I'm here and so.
- 1:05:13Yeah, the detective is like following him the whole time
- 1:05:16they get to a storage room and it looks it's.
- 1:05:22Kind of like the scene in. Cabin of the Woods, where they
- 1:05:25have, like, all of the horrors and their own little cube cubes.
- 1:05:28Yeah. And it's cool.
- 1:05:29That's the dolls. Yeah.
- 1:05:30The curtain drops. And every fucking doll in the
- 1:05:33city. God, if I ever turn.
- 1:05:35Into a ghost. I'm hope I'm half as theatrical
- 1:05:38as Mary Shaw. Me too.
- 1:05:40Really. She does a great job and she had
- 1:05:42like a lot of to. Different dolls.
- 1:05:43How did she even have time to do that many routines?
- 1:05:45Because there were like 20 people in Ravens Fair when it
- 1:05:47was so fully populated. I mean, that's the town.
- 1:05:51That's all the people she killed.
- 1:05:55She turns them into dolls. Is that?
- 1:05:59Actually, what? I'm pretty sure that's what it
- 1:06:00is, yeah. That's all the people she
- 1:06:02killed, I don't feel like. That's what it was.
- 1:06:05You see pictures of them. Turned into dolls afterwards.
- 1:06:08Like you see that that's what like she doesn't, I don't think
- 1:06:11actually does she. I think she actually is turning
- 1:06:14them into the dogs. OK, maybe I missed.
- 1:06:16Something. Yeah, especially because if her
- 1:06:18first one was Michael Ashton, he didn't She didn't do a good job
- 1:06:20with him because he still looked like a boy.
- 1:06:23They all have the. Same face.
- 1:06:24She's not like, you know, good at doing.
- 1:06:27She's got, she's one of those people that draws the same face.
- 1:06:30She makes the same face. She's the matte.
- 1:06:33Graining style, yeah. Or Kira.
- 1:06:35Toriyama, anyway. The only one that's missing is
- 1:06:38Billy number 57. How do you have?
- 1:06:42How do you have? 56.
- 1:06:43Other billies, you got a total of like $70.
- 1:06:46Why are 57 of them named Billy? I don't know why that made me
- 1:06:49think of that. Mamba Mamba number. 5 A little
- 1:06:54bit of Billy in my life, A little bit of Billy kind of
- 1:06:58nice. That was Mary Shaw's favorite
- 1:07:00song. A little bit of Billy.
- 1:07:02All I need man. The war in this movie is just I
- 1:07:08I like. Our lore.
- 1:07:10This is great. This is great.
- 1:07:12It's this fantastic we've. Got a creepy clown doll in a
- 1:07:16tiny creepy doll sized rocking chair in the attic.
- 1:07:20Donnie's got a shotgun and the clown is like come closer, Jamie
- 1:07:25and Jamie's like, why should I? And the dolls like I'll tell you
- 1:07:29why your wife died. And he's like, OK.
- 1:07:31And Donnie's like don't do it. Just keep shaking his head and
- 1:07:34he's like no. He's shaking his head.
- 1:07:35I know, but he's standing behind Jamie.
- 1:07:38Of course Jamie didn't see the nose shaking.
- 1:07:40Yeah, I know that's true. But like, you know what?
- 1:07:44If he had been shaving at the same time he would have heard
- 1:07:46the nose shaking because of like the Poplar effect.
- 1:07:57Honestly, this movie is like, if they had that, that would be
- 1:08:01like friends come over. I got this new sound system.
- 1:08:05Like it's fucking like surround sound.
- 1:08:07You can hear Donnie shave his neck through the whole house.
- 1:08:18Like that's like the. Like reference level right
- 1:08:20there. This honestly the.
- 1:08:22Shaver thing has to be James Wan.
- 1:08:24He is like, he's got such a weird sense of humor like he
- 1:08:28does. That has to be his input.
- 1:08:32He's so good, OK, but he's got the shotgun and they're inching
- 1:08:35closer and closer to the clown doll, and he finally gets close
- 1:08:39enough and the clown actually whispers what happened.
- 1:08:42He's like. Your wife was pregnant.
- 1:08:46Paganante. And.
- 1:08:50Then Mary Shaw appears behind the doll.
- 1:08:53Yeah, and. They yeah, they are freaking
- 1:08:57out. Dave.
- 1:08:57Detective Donnie shoots at them. I can't believe he actually
- 1:09:00shoots a. Ghost.
- 1:09:02Yeah, he shoots at a. Ghost.
- 1:09:04He shoots at the dolls that are reacting.
- 1:09:07The A fire starts a lot of. Shit's happening.
- 1:09:10I. Think as well because these.
- 1:09:11Dolls were made in, like, the 1940s, and I guess everything
- 1:09:13was flammable. You're right.
- 1:09:15Yeah. And so they're trying to run
- 1:09:17away. And as they're, like, running
- 1:09:19Detective Donnie falls. And I feel like this is.
- 1:09:24I feel like this is unfair. Because he's screaming about the
- 1:09:26fall and not screaming about Mary Shaw.
- 1:09:28That Mary Shaw's like, yeah, he didn't.
- 1:09:31He couldn't make his case here. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:33And so. She, like, swoops him again.
- 1:09:36This is a very fast and furious type of like, yeah,
- 1:09:39intervention. I didn't expect that, honestly.
- 1:09:41Like, yeah, why not just let him fall?
- 1:09:43She has to get his tongue, I guess, but you can get the
- 1:09:44tongue afterwards. She wanted to prove that she
- 1:09:46could. Do it before he hit the ground.
- 1:09:47That's true. And she did.
- 1:09:49So that was impressive. Jamie falls through into the
- 1:09:53floor of this building, which is how we find out that it's
- 1:09:55actually built over top of the lake.
- 1:09:58How? How does this thing like stand
- 1:10:00instead of a houseboat? It's a house theater or a boat.
- 1:10:05Like houseboat, theater boat, theater boat, theater boat
- 1:10:08there. We go.
- 1:10:09That's how that word works. Yeah.
- 1:10:12Yeah. And he swims.
- 1:10:14Through the bottom out and he's in the cemetery now and then
- 1:10:19he's. Like, all right, well, I gotta
- 1:10:22go get that one last stall and get rid of it, and then the time
- 1:10:26will be safe. So he goes to Marian and Henry's
- 1:10:29house, and he sees Marian holding Henry's body.
- 1:10:32And she says that Edward took Billy number 57.
- 1:10:37And he was like, my dad's impossible, but my dad can't
- 1:10:40walk. And she was like, I don't know
- 1:10:41what you want me to tell you. My husband's dead.
- 1:10:43Thanks for acknowledging that. Like, I thought we could have,
- 1:10:45like, a little support for each other since you just lost your
- 1:10:48wife. That's fine.
- 1:10:49She's just bawling. He's like me.
- 1:10:50Me, you know my husband is. Dead.
- 1:10:54Who will Get Me Out of crawl spaces now?
- 1:10:56I had to get him out of the crawl space.
- 1:10:58It's not OK. Oh, that's true.
- 1:11:00It's so sad. It is.
- 1:11:01It's actually really like I I forgot that she was holding his
- 1:11:03body. In the sea.
- 1:11:04Yeah, so he goes back to his dad's house and he finds Billy
- 1:11:09and Mary attacks, but Jamie throws Billy onto the fire in
- 1:11:13the fireplace, and then he. Realizes something's a little
- 1:11:20fishy. And he goes to check on his dad,
- 1:11:23and he goes behind his dad. We get this.
- 1:11:29Song. Esque ending here.
- 1:11:31It's like quick shots of flashbacks, and the editing
- 1:11:34style is exactly the same from the theater across the lake.
- 1:11:37Right here, Yogi Comedy. Yeah, I'm trying to do that
- 1:11:42without a tongue. That was pretty good then.
- 1:11:44Thank you. But like, yeah, the back is all
- 1:11:48hollowed out. Yeah.
- 1:11:49And the dads turn into a doll. And then you see these shots of
- 1:11:52Ella using him as, like, a ventriloquist dummy.
- 1:11:54Yeah, Like And any time. That we like when he got the
- 1:11:57call from Henry, like she was the one that I brought on the
- 1:11:59phone, Like we see all of these things that had happened.
- 1:12:04Did he not smell awful? Yeah, because he doesn't.
- 1:12:07Look. Super embalmed.
- 1:12:10Like this the in. The Hollowed.
- 1:12:12Out parts of them are still kind of gooey looking.
- 1:12:14Yeah, no, it's. That that's an inconsistency.
- 1:12:18That shit would be rank and this was enough to just.
- 1:12:21Completely break Jamie's brain. He screams.
- 1:12:24Ellen is actually Mary. Why and how that is a little
- 1:12:30bit. Confusing and when.
- 1:12:33Yeah. I.
- 1:12:37That is really confusing. It's like she wanted a toy with
- 1:12:39her victim. She could have just, like,
- 1:12:41killed him. But I guess she, like, the whole
- 1:12:43point is like, I got to make him scream.
- 1:12:44Yeah. Like she can't.
- 1:12:46Like she's she's a ghost of her word.
- 1:12:49Like when the clown was like come closer and I will tell you
- 1:12:51what happened to your wife. And now she's like the poem says
- 1:12:54that you you can't scream, but if you scream, I get to kill
- 1:12:57you. And you don't even have to be
- 1:12:58screaming at me. You just have to be screaming
- 1:13:00near me. I just like but like how long
- 1:13:06does that last? For you know what I mean?
- 1:13:08Cuz like, all right. I'm going to go back to the.
- 1:13:11Candy man analogy. Like what?
- 1:13:13Like how many times like. What's the space?
- 1:13:16What's the length of time between the candy man's?
- 1:13:19The Candy Man's. Yeah, before sound.
- 1:13:22Like the fucking people. From Key and Peele.
- 1:13:24The candy man's though, Yeah. Candy man's though.
- 1:13:27Like what is the length of time that can pass before you say the
- 1:13:30last one? And then it's like, ah, he's
- 1:13:32coming to get you. And it's the same thing with
- 1:13:36this. Like how long after you see Mary
- 1:13:38Shaw are you allowed to scream again?
- 1:13:39Cuz like what if you dream about her and then like 3 months later
- 1:13:43you've forgotten all about it and you go to a roller coaster?
- 1:13:45I think it has to be in her presence.
- 1:13:47Right, I don't know. I think.
- 1:13:49I think. That's the case.
- 1:13:50She has to be there like to get you.
- 1:13:54Like you can scream and not be around her.
- 1:13:56I think I'm just saying like there's.
- 1:13:58So much possibility for lore and fun with this.
- 1:14:01And we got none of it. And I know that they can do that
- 1:14:04because they gave us Detective Donnie shaving.
- 1:14:06I know that they can give us a lot more fun than they did.
- 1:14:09Yeah, I blame. The Script Doctor.
- 1:14:12Yeah, let's blame the script doctor.
- 1:14:13They. They deserve the blame, but I
- 1:14:15will bump it up to. A5 OK, just.
- 1:14:19Because. It's the fun we made.
- 1:14:22Along the way it is. Honestly, we this is this is a
- 1:14:26good one to just, it's like a make your own war.
- 1:14:29Yeah. Choose your own adventure.
- 1:14:30Yeah. That's what we did here.
- 1:14:31We did that really be where you're in.
- 1:14:33For you choose the scare. That's what it is.
- 1:14:35Yeah. I I'm.
- 1:14:37Keeping mine at 8. OK, so.
- 1:14:40Now we're at 6.5. OK, Yeah, no, yes.
- 1:14:45Mm, hmm, mm, hmm. 6.756.7. No 6.5. 6.5 It's six point.
- 1:14:54Five. Are we sure?
- 1:14:55Yes. I don't think so.
- 1:14:56Sure 13 / 2 is 6.5. We did too much flip flopping.
- 1:14:59For me to be certain about that flip flopping.
- 1:15:02I got cough and flop on the brain.
- 1:15:05There's a lot. Yeah, there's a lot.
- 1:15:06OK. OK, Italia.
- 1:15:10Yeah, what did Italia think of this?
- 1:15:11She was like tantruming. Last night she just wanted to
- 1:15:14sleep. She didn't wanna like, she loves
- 1:15:17to scream. I was gonna say that's her
- 1:15:18favorite. Activity Talia's super vocal.
- 1:15:20And it honestly kind of pissed through the fuck off because she
- 1:15:24already had powder for jaw removed so she already kind of
- 1:15:26lived through like the joyride experience.
- 1:15:28True. And also like.
- 1:15:29Her favorite thing is her tongue.
- 1:15:30Yeah, she loves to lick things. Yeah.
- 1:15:32And if you've ever been. Near her, you know, like she
- 1:15:34will, she'll lick, she'll try and touch tongues with you if
- 1:15:37you give her the if you give her the opening, I think for that
- 1:15:40reason. This is an effective movie for
- 1:15:42her. And she was.
- 1:15:43She was. Dreaming and barking in her
- 1:15:45sleep. Yeah.
- 1:15:45And she likes, you know. Dolls and toys too, like this is
- 1:15:49like this checks all the boxes for her.
- 1:15:51We'll give it a 10 for. Immersion for her.
- 1:15:52Yeah, OK. Zoe's ultimate warrior.
- 1:15:57Zoe was very insistent on. Trying to cuddle last night, she
- 1:15:59was. But.
- 1:16:01I don't think. Zoe.
- 1:16:05I think she liked Mary or. Not Mary, Marian, because of,
- 1:16:09like, her going in the crawl space over and over again
- 1:16:11because Zoe likes to go in those hard to find places.
- 1:16:13Yeah, Zoe likes to. Crawl into the couch or under
- 1:16:16the bed or into her litter box. She likes to go to some hidden
- 1:16:18place and then just under the material.
- 1:16:22Until somebody comes. And finds her.
- 1:16:23Yeah, yeah, she's. Like she's playing Marco Polo
- 1:16:26with? You.
- 1:16:27Yeah, she is. OK, so.
- 1:16:28Yeah, she's Marian. OK.
- 1:16:30Who did you relate to? I related to Lisa because I.
- 1:16:37Just want some fucking Chinese food.
- 1:16:39Our favorite Chinese. Restaurant in.
- 1:16:41Town got close by the yeah the health department like 3 years
- 1:16:46ago and I'm still not over it. We've tried multiple other
- 1:16:48Chinese places since then and hit the same.
- 1:16:51I relate to Jamie because. When we want to take out, I'm
- 1:16:54the one that always has to go out and pick up the food, yeah.
- 1:16:57Yeah, not related to them. Like I, you know, same.
- 1:17:00Like I, I'm the one that goes out and gets the food.
- 1:17:02I feel you buddy. Even in the rain, like Jamie was
- 1:17:07we're. Melman, US.
- 1:17:08People. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:10No matter the weather, we go out and we get the food.
- 1:17:14Yeah. That's you're the hunter
- 1:17:16gatherer. Yes, thank you.
- 1:17:19Yeah. OK, we've done a very bad job of
- 1:17:23what would Dom do the past few weeks again, not to kind of like
- 1:17:28keep hit banging the same gong, but it's there's been a lot of
- 1:17:33like life happening at us. So yeah, so we've we've.
- 1:17:36Been a little bit distracted. I'm so sorry.
- 1:17:38We're we're. Here, now we're.
- 1:17:39Gonna we're gonna ask what would Dom do?
- 1:17:43How would Dom handle this? First of all, he would
- 1:17:46immediately like, Jamie understands that the doll is an
- 1:17:50omen. It is a sign.
- 1:17:52It means somebody's coming for you.
- 1:17:53So he's going to gather all of the people who have once sent
- 1:17:56him ominous signs, but now they're part of the family, and
- 1:17:59they're going to go figure out what's going on.
- 1:18:01I think this is going to be heavily Statham as a sidekick in
- 1:18:05this one. OK, let's see that.
- 1:18:08Yeah. He's big on his family, too.
- 1:18:10Yeah. You know, honestly, I think I
- 1:18:12think Don would see how Ashton handled it and he's like, I also
- 1:18:17want to make my own town with the only being my family as
- 1:18:22residents and detective. Donnie is still in it and he's
- 1:18:25still following and him and Don have like a lot of words back
- 1:18:29and forth, and that's that why we know in the next one like
- 1:18:32he'll be part of the family too. Yes, there we go.
- 1:18:35And then in that. Movie Marky Mark will be the bad
- 1:18:38guy, and Detective Donnie has to decide.
- 1:18:41Like, know where my loyalty's lying?
- 1:18:44Perfect. And it's just, it's a
- 1:18:46heartbreaker because it's family versus family, and Dom can't
- 1:18:49handle that shit. Yeah, he's like.
- 1:18:51It's Family Guy, so we can't make a man turn his back on his
- 1:18:54family. Except he did that to his.
- 1:18:56Brothers too. Well, yeah, Dom was a hypocrite.
- 1:18:58Yeah, OK. Like we He never said he's a
- 1:19:00perfect person. He just wants everybody else to
- 1:19:02call him perfect. Exactly.
- 1:19:04Yeah. OK, now dream sequel.
- 1:19:08OK, All right, so. We're we're doing the.
- 1:19:10Crossover. Yes, we we have lots of
- 1:19:11crossover. Ideas.
- 1:19:12I want to hear what you were cooking up.
- 1:19:15OK, so. God, I fucking forgot.
- 1:19:20OK, what were we saying that we were gonna do?
- 1:19:22What was the thing gonna be? So the second one was gonna be.
- 1:19:24Crossover with Texas Chainsaw because Bubba is gonna help make
- 1:19:29people into dolls. Yes, because he likes his arts
- 1:19:32and crafts. Yeah, the third one would be a
- 1:19:35crossover with Final Destination because it's just like killing
- 1:19:39all the people in the bloodlines.
- 1:19:40OK, we said something with. Saw so yes.
- 1:19:44It's, well, it's just. Saulville.
- 1:19:45Like this is actually Jamie's from Saulville, and Detective
- 1:19:48Donnie is the detective from Saul 2.
- 1:19:55We've called him Detective Donnie too many times for me to
- 1:19:57get his name pulled up into my brain right now.
- 1:20:00OK, God. Damn it, it's on like I had it
- 1:20:04and it's on my head here and I can't fucking remember what I
- 1:20:07was going to say. It has something to do with him
- 1:20:11being a cop tying them into saw. So.
- 1:20:18There were actually 2 missing puppets, Billy number 57 and
- 1:20:22Billy never. What if that Billy is Billy?
- 1:20:24Number 57 He buried the wrong Billy.
- 1:20:29My God, that's. Not what I was going for, but.
- 1:20:35Whatever that works. That works perfectly fine.
- 1:20:38Cool, right? New tag line.
- 1:20:41New tag. Line new tag line.
- 1:20:49Silent but deadly. Yes.
- 1:20:53OK. That's been Talia the past few
- 1:21:01days, by the way, except for this morning when you picked.
- 1:21:03Her up and squeezed a fart out of her.
- 1:21:04Yeah, you can squeeze them out of her.
- 1:21:07She's like, she's like a toy. They wanna speak toy.
- 1:21:10Sometimes she's their own whoopie cushion.
- 1:21:12Yeah OK, I pulled 2 reviews cuz I didn't know how you would feel
- 1:21:17about this. So you're still kind of on the
- 1:21:20opposite. Yeah.
- 1:21:20I think we're turning more towards positive though since
- 1:21:23you're in, we're in the middle with you.
- 1:21:24Yeah. All right.
- 1:21:25So I'll read the positive and then the negative.
- 1:21:28OK, so 7 out of 10 still holds up.
- 1:21:31Well, in 2019 after watching the first few Saw movies, I kept
- 1:21:34thinking to myself that the doll was creepy enough to have a
- 1:21:36horror movie based on itself. And a few years later I found
- 1:21:39this gem and I've been revisiting it over the years
- 1:21:41since. It's 2019 and I just rewatched
- 1:21:43it again a few nights back with a friend and it was an
- 1:21:45entertaining ride. The movie itself isn't any kind
- 1:21:48of masterpiece. Acting, riding and plot are all
- 1:21:50rather average, but there is some effect of horror,
- 1:21:53atmosphere and effects packed in.
- 1:21:54While the plot is nothing original or fresh beyond, it's
- 1:21:57played straight in a way that will keep you interested.
- 1:21:59That is kind of James wants. So it's a breezy movie that you
- 1:22:03can watch and enjoy with a roommate late at night.
- 1:22:05That's true. You do not have to think a lot
- 1:22:07about this movie. Yeah, that's true.
- 1:22:09It's just an experience. Yeah, it's pretty easy going.
- 1:22:12It does do a good job. With the atmosphere and it's
- 1:22:16definitely something that you can just have on because even if
- 1:22:18you're paying attention to your shoulder, go, go, wait, what
- 1:22:21happened? So yeah, I think the only.
- 1:22:23The acting wasn't anything I. Wouldn't say.
- 1:22:26Anybody did bad, but I think Jamie was kind of a ish.
- 1:22:30He wasn't great. He kind of felt like a.
- 1:22:33Gary Stew. Honestly, a little bit.
- 1:22:35A little bit. Yeah.
- 1:22:38OK, this one, it was a long 1, so I'm just gonna read a snippet
- 1:22:44of it. OK?
- 1:22:46It was so ridiculous how the old man Henry kept saying that the
- 1:22:48town doesn't dare speak Mary Shaw's name.
- 1:22:50And he did it over and over. It took a lot of the sting out
- 1:22:53of any believability that all the residents were afraid.
- 1:22:56But the the scenes where Harry describes Mary Shaw's dying wish
- 1:22:59to be made into a doll herself was Slash is completely
- 1:23:01unethical for a mortician to do. Oh, OK.
- 1:23:04That's why we need Bubba. Yeah, I understand the
- 1:23:07suspension of disbelief, but shouldn't even fantasy appear to
- 1:23:10be as close to reality as possible so that it's scarier?
- 1:23:13Having the final dummy say to Jamie that it wants to whisper
- 1:23:15something in his ear was just plain bogus.
- 1:23:17They're supposedly so afraid of the thing and then all of a
- 1:23:20sudden he becomes brave enough to get close in order to get a
- 1:23:22good face licking. Please.
- 1:23:27And since the wife was murdered, there would have been an inquest
- 1:23:29in the autopsy would have revealed she was pregnant way
- 1:23:32before we find out near the end. I had.
- 1:23:35I agree with the earlier post that said the story could have
- 1:23:38been fleshed out more. In addition, there should have
- 1:23:39been more scenes of Mary Shaw because she was creepy enough
- 1:23:41all by her lonesome that thought Billy was nothing on her.
- 1:23:45There should have been a flashback scene of Mary Shaw
- 1:23:46doing gruesome things so the audience could appreciate a good
- 1:23:49scare or at the very least give the appearance that she had
- 1:23:52something to do with the little boy's disappearance.
- 1:23:54Jamie couldn't even remember the fairy tale, let alone who Shaw
- 1:23:56was, so how are viewers supposed to be frightened unless we were
- 1:23:58Privy to how sick Mary could really get?
- 1:24:01The best part of the entire film for me was when all sound
- 1:24:03completely stopped, waiting to see what happens next.
- 1:24:06I agree with that part. I disagree with their needing to
- 1:24:11be more Mary Shaw. I thought she was used the
- 1:24:14perfect amount because if you overexpose her I think she
- 1:24:17becomes less effective. No, I.
- 1:24:20Think. It's kind of like what I was
- 1:24:22saying before, where I wish we had more of her background, like
- 1:24:25I mean more of her when she was alive, OK?
- 1:24:28Because. If they can do gross and
- 1:24:31gruesome shit when they're alive, imagine when they're
- 1:24:34ghosts and they can. Like they don't have to follow
- 1:24:37normal metaphysical processes. Yeah, there would.
- 1:24:42You would benefit from having that, yeah.
- 1:24:45But yeah, I don't know, like. That that was a negative.
- 1:24:50Review, but like, they didn't really say a lot of terrible
- 1:24:52things about it. Like it I I like the part where
- 1:24:56the clown like brings in for a whisper because I mean that like
- 1:24:59that's a suspenseful moment, you know, like, yeah, you expect
- 1:25:03something, but it like kind of like goes against your
- 1:25:05expectations. Like, yeah, I think it was
- 1:25:07funny. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:25:10I But you make some good enough points there with that one.
- 1:25:14OK you got anything to add? No, I.
- 1:25:17I agree with OK. That's cool.
- 1:25:20I agree with a lot of what that reviewer said.
- 1:25:22OK, well. Then it's time for listener
- 1:25:25reviews. OK, all right, got a few here.
- 1:25:28So on Instagram we have mine mints.
- 1:25:32Dinner says made me not want to have any toys in my room when I
- 1:25:36was a kid. You know, that's fair.
- 1:25:40I think every generation needs a toy.
- 1:25:42Like that, like a toy movie like that.
- 1:25:44Because Chucky did that for our generation.
- 1:25:46Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
- 1:25:47Like we don't have that moment. Billy did that for this one and
- 1:25:49then. Annabelle has done that and
- 1:25:51yeah, yeah, we go on and on and on.
- 1:25:54Over on Blue Sky we have Johnny who says first saw it while I
- 1:25:58was working at Blockbuster and I really like it.
- 1:26:00Creepy setting, great scares and amazing pacing for the 89 minute
- 1:26:04runtime. I didn't even think about it.
- 1:26:06But yeah, the 89 minute runtime will love it.
- 1:26:08Fantastic it it didn't. Stretch itself out longer than
- 1:26:11it needed to be. Yeah, it had.
- 1:26:13Good. Pacing, I agree, I like it too
- 1:26:15honestly. And yeah, I think it really does
- 1:26:17have good atmosphere and setting and scarce solid or zombie says.
- 1:26:22It's been a while since I saw this one.
- 1:26:24The idea of the theme was pretty cool.
- 1:26:25Most movies use the dark and this one uses silence, so it was
- 1:26:28an interesting idea. That ending, though, it was out
- 1:26:31there, you know, I like, I like that, too.
- 1:26:33Yeah, you're right. Like silence is like a there
- 1:26:37are. Movies.
- 1:26:38That use silence and it can be annoying to me sometimes because
- 1:26:42like too much silence is just like, I don't know, like we
- 1:26:47watched the strangers chapter 2 last night, like you said, and a
- 1:26:50lot of like the scenes and that especially the opening is just
- 1:26:53like silence and then you got like a quiet.
- 1:27:00What's that fucking movie? Called quiet.
- 1:27:02Quiet. Place.
- 1:27:05Quiet Place. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:27:06That one I wanted it to be more. Silent.
- 1:27:08Actually, yeah. But that's a movie that did use
- 1:27:11silence instead of darkness, but I've never really thought about
- 1:27:14that before. That's a really cool thing.
- 1:27:16Yeah. Just instead of using darkness,
- 1:27:17use silence. Although this movie kind of uses
- 1:27:19a little bit of both and queen bean tricks just says I haven't
- 1:27:23read that Goosebumps. It does look exactly like that
- 1:27:27doll. Yeah.
- 1:27:28What? Is that doll's name and.
- 1:27:29I feel like it's Billy it. Could be Billy.
- 1:27:31What? You know what?
- 1:27:32Let me. Google on that a little being
- 1:27:34dummy real quick. Is that the name of?
- 1:27:36It Yeah. No count, Slappy.
- 1:27:38Slappy. No count, Slappy.
- 1:27:42Number. 5/1. Two.
- 1:27:47Yeah. OK, that's it for the reviews if
- 1:27:50you feel real. Froggy, you could just pump in
- 1:27:52the the opening like saxophone instead of our normal Yeah or
- 1:28:01just. Take that little sound bite and
- 1:28:04throw it in the opening of the episode and nobody will know
- 1:28:06what's happening to this part. Yeah, you have.
- 1:28:08To you have to stay tuned the whole episode.
- 1:28:11Yeah. OK all right.
- 1:28:12Cool all. Right.
- 1:28:13Well, then that's it for everything.
- 1:28:15What are we doing next week, Travis?
- 1:28:17What have you picked out for me? Well, I think it's really funny.
- 1:28:20Earlier, how you compared this movie to another movie, you said
- 1:28:25you wanted it to be like Silent Hill.
- 1:28:26Because the movie I picked for next week is Silent Hill.
- 1:28:29Yay. Yeah, I've always wanted to.
- 1:28:31Watch it. I know a little bit about it,
- 1:28:33but I have not had the full experience.
- 1:28:34So I'm very I'm happy for that. I'm, I'm excited for that.
- 1:28:37Too. I remember liking it a lot.
- 1:28:39That was one of the ones I saw in theaters back in the day, and
- 1:28:41that's the last time I saw it. So back-to-back movies like
- 1:28:46that, it's gonna be a good time. I'm excited.
- 1:28:49I checked it earlier. You can watch it on Pluto.
- 1:28:52OK, Hopefully that'll still. Be the case in October?
- 1:28:54I hope so. And you?
- 1:28:56Can rent it obviously from a few places.
- 1:28:59I don't know off the top of my head though.
- 1:29:00But yeah, if you are wanting to watch along with us, do it, go
- 1:29:05do it. Do that.
- 1:29:06Shit. All right.
- 1:29:07But in the meantime, we would like to thank our bubbies over
- 1:29:10on the Patreon. Yay.
- 1:29:11We have Joan. That's is his name.
- 1:29:13Amber Michael Tyler, Chat, Johnny, Jason and Ward Zombie.
