- 0:00Speaker 1: You know this week was going to test me. When
- 0:02Speaker 1: I was standing in a high school gym in lovely Carthage,
- 0:05Speaker 1: New York, and I could feel two completely different emotions
- 0:08Speaker 1: happening in the same roughly thirty foot of space. On
- 0:11Speaker 1: one side we had Avery. She was playing free shots
- 0:14Speaker 1: fall and moving well, confident. You can see it. She's loose,
- 0:17Speaker 1: she's smiling. And on the other side, Alah's sitting there waiting, watching,
- 0:24Speaker 1: trying to stay locked in, trying to stay ready. If
- 0:27Speaker 1: you ever watched your kid want something badly, you know that. Look.
- 0:31Speaker 1: She wasn't mad, she wasn't blaming anyone, she wasn't sulking.
- 0:34Speaker 1: She just wanted a chance. And when it didn't come
- 0:38Speaker 1: the way she hoped, the frustration hit, and it hit
- 0:41Speaker 1: pretty hard. And there was the moment. There was a
- 0:45Speaker 1: little bit of some tears. They weren't dramatic, they were quiet,
- 0:48Speaker 1: which somehow, as a dad, makes it worse. And I'm
- 0:52Speaker 1: standing there thinking, am my dad right now? Or am
- 0:54Speaker 1: my coach brain right now? Because coach brain understands rotations,
- 0:58Speaker 1: development and situations. Dad brain just sees a kid hurting,
- 1:04Speaker 1: and that internal conflict it hits pretty heavy. And then
- 1:08Speaker 1: at some point, a couple of days before, a couple
- 1:10Speaker 1: of days after, don't even remember. At this point, I
- 1:13Speaker 1: wake up in the middle of the night, I'm freezing,
- 1:16Speaker 1: and I go out and check and we're out of
- 1:18Speaker 1: fuel oil because they forgot to show up. So, yeah,
- 1:21Speaker 1: that's been my week. Welcome, stay out of my fridge
- 1:26Speaker 1: voice you're hearing. It's me, It's Matt, it's Beard Loss
- 1:30Speaker 1: joining me this week, finally back in action, the one,
- 1:35Speaker 1: the only Ah, some buddy, nothing really, nothing really.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I got pretty bored upstairs. I went upstairs and I
- 1:44Speaker 2: was trying to find something to play with, and I
- 1:46Speaker 2: have these mini barbie doll things that I'd been looking
- 1:49Speaker 2: for for like a week now, and I cannot seem
- 1:52Speaker 2: to find them.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Interesting. It's almost as if your room's a little dirty
- 1:57Speaker 1: and it's hard to find things.
- 1:59Speaker 2: No, it's not. I just cleaned it.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Your room's so dirty that all of your stuff is
- 2:03Speaker 1: in the hallway and the poor other girls have to
- 2:06Speaker 1: walk through a path in the hallway.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I shot in my boom lot the other night.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I just cleaned it, okay, and literally, did you see
- 2:14Speaker 1: the hallway? What's all over it?
- 2:18Speaker 2: Hmmm? I have to fingers clean I'm not done.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Okay, you've only been cleaning for eight months, but hey,
- 2:24Speaker 1: maybe bye, I don't know when is it going to
- 2:28Speaker 1: be done? Set a date so it's on a podcast
- 2:30Speaker 1: and everybody will know. And I'm going to send a
- 2:32Speaker 1: picture on the date that you think that it's going
- 2:35Speaker 1: to take you, and we'll let everybody see if you're
- 2:38Speaker 1: entire hallway in your entire room is fully cleaned because
- 2:42Speaker 1: you didn't even touched the closet yet. Kid, and that's
- 2:45Speaker 1: the bad part.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 2:48Speaker 1: What's the date before your birthday? Or is that way
- 2:52Speaker 1: too soon? That's only like two months?
- 2:53Speaker 2: Come on it four weeks?
- 2:56Speaker 1: Four weeks? So you're saying the middle of April. Okay,
- 3:02Speaker 1: let's I'm gonna believe it when I see it. We'll
- 3:04Speaker 1: say before your cousin's birthday, which is April first. Okay,
- 3:10Speaker 1: that's six weeks. You're gonna say it's gonna be done,
- 3:14Speaker 1: all right? If it's not, then I'm gonna think of something.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Then you have to cook dinner and do dishes for
- 3:21Speaker 1: six straight weeks, and you have to vacuum every day,
- 3:25Speaker 1: clean the litter boxes for six straight weeks, every single day.
- 3:31Speaker 1: If you miss a day, it starts all over. How
- 3:34Speaker 1: does that sound? Is that motivational? Do you not want this?
- 3:39Speaker 2: I do not want this.
- 3:40Speaker 1: I will think it over for next week. So we
- 3:43Speaker 1: talked about sitting in carthage in competition, and well, the
- 3:48Speaker 1: hard part of growth. Let's let's sit in this a
- 3:50Speaker 1: little bit longer, all right, because youth sports, would you say,
- 3:55Speaker 1: it's emotional chaos and secret sneak? That a good way
- 3:59Speaker 1: to put it. Yeah, and it stinks even more sometimes
- 4:01Speaker 1: you got like one kid thriving, one kid struggling, same house,
- 4:05Speaker 1: same support system, and then you got a third kid
- 4:08Speaker 1: that's just not even in the gym in the house.
- 4:10Speaker 1: She just elsewhere doing what teenagers do, completely different experiences, right,
- 4:16Speaker 1: And here's the tricky part. As a parent who coaches,
- 4:19Speaker 1: I know that development is development isn't like linear. It's
- 4:24Speaker 1: not the same The way that you're that Sissy has
- 4:27Speaker 1: developed isn't the same way that you've developed. Isn't the
- 4:30Speaker 1: same way that avery develops. Right, And we know that
- 4:33Speaker 1: playing time isn't guaranteed right now. And you know, and
- 4:36Speaker 1: I don't know if you know this, but I know
- 4:38Speaker 1: this adversity tough times like this, it builds something long term,
- 4:43Speaker 1: don't you think.
- 4:44Speaker 2: And I've always thought that Avery was better because she
- 4:47Speaker 2: also because I started at like age six maybe, and
- 4:53Speaker 2: then she started when she was just a baby in diapers.
- 4:56Speaker 2: She's got this many hoop and she shot at it.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Yeah, we did work on a little form shooting when
- 5:01Speaker 1: she was really young in diapers. And let's be honest,
- 5:03Speaker 1: who's putting more work into sports? You were her? Who's
- 5:10Speaker 1: put in more work Afrey? And that's why at point
- 5:16Speaker 1: that she's at is where she's at, because she's put
- 5:19Speaker 1: in more work because she's also older than you, right,
- 5:23Speaker 1: So you just have to want it, and sometimes you
- 5:26Speaker 1: just got to put in some extra work. And I'm
- 5:28Speaker 1: not the type of dad that's gonna come out there
- 5:31Speaker 1: and be like, you gotta go do a push up,
- 5:32Speaker 1: you have to go run, you have to you want
- 5:35Speaker 1: to do it. You want to work out, play, and
- 5:36Speaker 1: you want to play into shooting this and that, I'll
- 5:39Speaker 1: give it to you and all and all. You can
- 5:41Speaker 1: work on anything you want yourself. And that's a lot
- 5:44Speaker 1: of the stuff that that that she's had to do
- 5:46Speaker 1: as well. She's wanted to. So we've provided workouts and
- 5:50Speaker 1: shooting routines and stuff. But you got to do it serious.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And at the end of the day, it's just sports, right.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I want you to be successful at whatever you want,
- 5:57Speaker 1: but sometimes you got to put in extra work, right.
- 6:00Speaker 1: And I tell the girls that I coach, and I
- 6:02Speaker 1: tell the girls in this house, you don't become a
- 6:04Speaker 1: good basketball player just during basketball season. You've become a
- 6:08Speaker 1: great basketball player when it's not the same sport season
- 6:11Speaker 1: because you gotta work all year round if you really
- 6:13Speaker 1: want to be good at it. And it's hard to
- 6:16Speaker 1: be really, really good, and that's really hard. Perfect practice
- 6:20Speaker 1: makes perfect, even though nobody's really perfect. But you're young, right,
- 6:25Speaker 1: You were a you're a fourth grader playing in a
- 6:28Speaker 1: sixth grade tournament, right, Yeah, and you knew going in
- 6:31Speaker 1: you weren't going to play a ton And again, I'm
- 6:34Speaker 1: not your coach. I just know that if on teams
- 6:39Speaker 1: that I coach, everybody that suits up gets playing time,
- 6:43Speaker 1: they get a decent amount of playing time. That's just
- 6:47Speaker 1: you know what, it's not your coach's you know, strategy,
- 6:50Speaker 1: it's her team, it's not mine. So if that's how
- 6:52Speaker 1: she wants to coach, that's how she coached. And you
- 6:54Speaker 1: can only do what you can control. Right, and you
- 6:56Speaker 1: did everything you were told to do, didn't you? Except
- 6:58Speaker 1: for I did tell you that we don't yell for
- 7:00Speaker 1: the ball, and you almost did a couple of times.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I do got to teach you a defense a little bit.
- 7:05Speaker 1: We're a little confused where to stand, So I'm gonna
- 7:07Speaker 1: work on that with you, all right. I can't make
- 7:09Speaker 1: you too good until you go to a school that
- 7:12Speaker 1: I coach at. I can't have the enemy be better, right, But,
- 7:17Speaker 1: like I was saying, struggling like this, it builds adversity.
- 7:20Speaker 1: It builds something long term in you that you you
- 7:23Speaker 1: got to build that drive, And knowing that intellectually doesn't
- 7:28Speaker 1: make watching it any easier for me or your mayor
- 7:32Speaker 1: you know, because a lot of times too, like I'll
- 7:35Speaker 1: kind of replay it in my head, like, am I
- 7:37Speaker 1: pushing too hard to you know? Have you do better?
- 7:40Speaker 1: Did I not push you hard enough to go out
- 7:43Speaker 1: and do things? You know? Have I prepared you good enough?
- 7:46Speaker 1: Do I say something to coaches? Do I say nothing?
- 7:49Speaker 2: Like?
- 7:49Speaker 1: It's a balance that happens in all every parent's brain
- 7:52Speaker 1: while they sit there and see their kid frustrated, right,
- 7:55Speaker 1: and then you realize it's all just part of it,
- 7:58Speaker 1: because there's no athlete who doesn't hit this moment where
- 8:02Speaker 1: they just want to play a little bit more. But
- 8:04Speaker 1: they got to trust the process, right, Yeah, that moment
- 8:08Speaker 1: where effort does an equal opportunity. And it's not there yet,
- 8:12Speaker 1: but if you want it bad enough the next year,
- 8:15Speaker 1: in the year after, and maybe you're even rocking a
- 8:18Speaker 1: different jersey in a couple of years, we don't know
- 8:20Speaker 1: where it's gonna be, right, Will you stop yawning? Am
- 8:22Speaker 1: I boring you? You're on a podcast and all you've
- 8:24Speaker 1: done is yawn, yawn, yawn. What's your problem? Did you
- 8:29Speaker 1: not sleep enough? No? Am I boring you?
- 8:32Speaker 2: No?
- 8:33Speaker 1: You're not even singing anything. You're giving me preteen one
- 8:37Speaker 1: word answers. You gotta build some confidence, is what I'm
- 8:40Speaker 1: trying to say, because if you don't, confidence can crack.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Confidence is like cement. You either build it and it's tough.
- 8:48Speaker 1: You build it wrong and it cracks. What are you
- 8:50Speaker 1: gonna do?
- 8:52Speaker 2: Build it?
- 8:53Speaker 1: Yeah, let me see those muscles. Well, they haven't came yet.
- 8:57Speaker 1: All right, we'll do some push up. But as parents do,
- 9:02Speaker 1: we always want to protect you, you know what I mean?
- 9:03Speaker 1: And as the coach brain, I know that I can't
- 9:06Speaker 1: always protect you and that aspect when you're not on
- 9:10Speaker 1: my team. So we just got to talk through it, right,
- 9:12Speaker 1: And I'm always going to remind you hard work compounds. Okay,
- 9:16Speaker 1: moments they come, so you always have to be ready
- 9:20Speaker 1: and you will be and you always just got to
- 9:21Speaker 1: make a fun and work as hard as you can.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:23Speaker 1: You know that's real talk. What else? What else you
- 9:26Speaker 1: got from the tournament?
- 9:27Speaker 2: Had really fun time?
- 9:28Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 9:29Speaker 2: I think the funnest part was hanging out with all
- 9:32Speaker 2: my friends and stuff.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Heck yeah, and he got a cool T shirt. Describe
- 9:36Speaker 1: the T shirt for anybody that hasn't seen it or
- 9:38Speaker 1: never will see it. It's blue kind of blue? Yeah,
- 9:42Speaker 1: blue blue? No, I said, what kind of blue? There's
- 9:45Speaker 1: a there's so many different shades of blue. A sky blue,
- 9:50Speaker 1: it's like a sky blue, or it is a sky
- 9:52Speaker 1: blue sky blue. And color writing.
- 9:56Speaker 2: It's got this big basketball on it that says where
- 9:59Speaker 2: we play? Mm hmm what year? M m mm?
- 10:06Speaker 1: Color writing? Nice. I like it. I like it a lot.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Did you wear to school yet?
- 10:12Speaker 2: No? Not yet.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I like that sweater you got. Did you get it
- 10:15Speaker 1: from mister Rogers personal collection? Do you know who mister
- 10:18Speaker 1: Rogers is mister Rogers. He could be a coach. But
- 10:22Speaker 1: that's not what I'm thinking of.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Something else.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I'll tell you. I'll teach you when you're older, mister Rogers. Neighborhood.
- 10:29Speaker 1: It's the old show. It was where Sweater.
- 10:32Speaker 2: You're talking about an actual person.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I mean, he is an actual person. I don't know
- 10:36Speaker 1: if he's still alive. Might be anyways, what were you
- 10:39Speaker 1: saying about to turn them? Anything else? He had fun?
- 10:41Speaker 1: Got a T shirt? Yeah, you got to fill up
- 10:45Speaker 1: the water bottles for our team. Yeah, some good hustle. Nice?
- 10:51Speaker 2: All right?
- 10:51Speaker 1: Should we talk about how we ran out of fuel? One?
- 10:55Speaker 1: Are you telling me? One minute on my own show?
- 10:57Speaker 1: Are you the producer?
- 10:59Speaker 2: Now? I've got nail glue on my skin and I
- 11:04Speaker 2: didn't realize that I did. And I went like this,
- 11:06Speaker 2: and it went it got stuck, so I had to
- 11:08Speaker 2: like and it.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Ah, it's like stain you or burns you. You get
- 11:15Speaker 1: chemical burn from the glue.
- 11:16Speaker 2: No, but it's the like the fabric, it's soft and stuff.
- 11:23Speaker 2: It's yarn. And it got stuck on my skin.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Did your sister make that shirt?
- 11:28Speaker 2: No, my mom bought it.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Gotcha interesting? Why did you Where were you playing with
- 11:33Speaker 1: the nail glue?
- 11:34Speaker 2: No, I was just going on my nails because I
- 11:35Speaker 2: had to peel them all off for my gym class,
- 11:38Speaker 2: because I had to put on gloves because we were
- 11:40Speaker 2: going outside.
- 11:41Speaker 1: You spent all that time, effort, and money yesterday doing
- 11:44Speaker 1: those nails to take them back off, to put them
- 11:46Speaker 1: back on. Yes, that is one of the dumbest thing
- 11:49Speaker 1: I've ever heard, is I couldn't put on my gloves.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I understand why you just get gloves With that, the
- 11:56Speaker 1: nails can stick out.
- 11:58Speaker 2: That's not how it works, Matt.
- 11:59Speaker 1: When just get bigger gloves, it's not how it works. Well,
- 12:03Speaker 1: my parents told me to get a bigger brain. Now
- 12:05Speaker 1: I'm wicked smart because my brain's big. See big old brain.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Thanks Captain Obvious looks like a hockey player. You're missing
- 12:13Speaker 1: your teeth on your right side. What you are? Hey,
- 12:16Speaker 1: you don't even play hockey? All right? So that was
- 12:20Speaker 1: more than one minute. Can we move on or what else? Yes?
- 12:23Speaker 2: We can move on.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Oh, thank you for your permission, producer. So let's talk
- 12:27Speaker 1: about the empty take energy, all right? Talk about our
- 12:33Speaker 1: survival mode. Give me a survival mode like music Transition one.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Survival mode that's all right, a little longer than I liked,
- 12:42Speaker 1: but it was good. All right, we'll work on that.
- 12:44Speaker 1: We ran out a feel oil, didn't we. Yes, it
- 12:46Speaker 1: was one of the coldest days of twenty twenty six. Yes,
- 12:50Speaker 1: And whose fault was.
- 12:51Speaker 2: It the guy that was going to come and fix it?
- 12:53Speaker 1: Not exactly the guy that was going to come and
- 12:55Speaker 1: fix it. It's the company that schedules when the feeld.
- 13:00Speaker 1: It wasn't me. So how this works there, smarty pants,
- 13:04Speaker 1: smarty mixed sweatpants. We're on what's called auto phil So
- 13:09Speaker 1: they just show up and they fill it and then
- 13:11Speaker 1: we spend lots of money. All right. We've been with
- 13:14Speaker 1: this company, me personally for sixteen years. They have all
- 13:18Speaker 1: the information for sixteen years of winters when to come
- 13:22Speaker 1: and fill Well, guess what. Said truck was on our
- 13:27Speaker 1: road that day, but I wasn't on the schedule, so
- 13:31Speaker 1: they didn't fill us up. So I'm sitting there, super cold,
- 13:35Speaker 1: rolled over in bed. I was like, it was three
- 13:37Speaker 1: oh three in the morning. I rolled over and I
- 13:40Speaker 1: was like, it woke me up. It was so cold.
- 13:42Speaker 1: My nose was cold, the sheets were cold. It was
- 13:44Speaker 1: so cold when I rolled over on my pillow. It
- 13:46Speaker 1: was cold. I was like, that's not right.
- 13:49Speaker 2: My mom stayed up in my room for like ten minutes,
- 13:53Speaker 2: not because she was helping me, because she was so cold,
- 13:57Speaker 2: and my room was like toasty.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Yeah. So I was like, uh oh, something's not right.
- 14:03Speaker 1: And I looked at the thermostat and it was fifty
- 14:07Speaker 1: degrees in the house and I was like, So I
- 14:10Speaker 1: looked and it was just blowing cold there. So I
- 14:13Speaker 1: went downstairs. Fuel oil in the tank. So I turned
- 14:18Speaker 1: the furnace off and I was in it. I was like,
- 14:21Speaker 1: you know what, there's an on call person. I'm not
- 14:23Speaker 1: going to wake them up at three in the morning.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Are they really going to get fuel there? So I
- 14:26Speaker 1: waited until five point thirty, called them by seven is
- 14:31Speaker 1: they showed up with fuel led the lines, heats back
- 14:34Speaker 1: working off the work. I go off the school. You
- 14:37Speaker 1: guys go come home to a warm house when you
- 14:40Speaker 1: wake up and your house is cold, And I felt bad.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Sissy couldn't take her her morning shower. And it was
- 14:48Speaker 1: the day of the really big basketball game, so I'm
- 14:50Speaker 1: sure it's my fault that they lost. But not a
- 14:54Speaker 1: fun time. I mean, there's there's this.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Thing were in my room. When it's super cold, it's
- 15:01Speaker 2: super toasty in my room, and then when it's super
- 15:04Speaker 2: hot out then it's like super cool, cool, coldest, and
- 15:10Speaker 2: it's just the best.
- 15:12Speaker 1: It's it's always been because before you had that room,
- 15:15Speaker 1: it was a it was there, and it was always.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Before she had that room, it was my sister and
- 15:19Speaker 2: me because we had that.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Right, But technically it was her baby room first, okay,
- 15:26Speaker 1: and then she went to where Sissy is and then
- 15:28Speaker 1: that was her playroom. And then you guys came and
- 15:31Speaker 1: it was the two of your room. And then you
- 15:33Speaker 1: guys are too big for that room, so we split
- 15:37Speaker 1: and it was just whatever you get we built here. Anyways, Yeah,
- 15:41Speaker 1: that room has always been the coolest in the summer
- 15:43Speaker 1: and the warmest in the winter.
- 15:45Speaker 2: I remember once I was younger, and I have a
- 15:48Speaker 2: room for memories in that room. But once I was
- 15:50Speaker 2: so young, and I think it was at a birthday party,
- 15:53Speaker 2: I bit Avery. I got so mad at her that
- 15:56Speaker 2: I just bit her arm, and then you made me
- 15:58Speaker 2: go upstairs and go and time out.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, deserving, right, Yeah, that's crazy.
- 16:05Speaker 2: I didn't mean it.
- 16:06Speaker 1: You didn't mean it. You just accidentally bit somebody. I
- 16:11Speaker 1: was like three, don't just don't mean to bite something
- 16:15Speaker 1: or something. It's just like I didn't mean to eat
- 16:17Speaker 1: my dinner biting it one time, and I didn't mean
- 16:20Speaker 1: to bite that piece.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Of you hold a gudge me for like months?
- 16:26Speaker 1: Can you blame?
- 16:27Speaker 2: Are you bitter? In reality?
- 16:30Speaker 1: You did What do you keep saying I didn't mean it?
- 16:34Speaker 2: I did it. I was three. I didn't know better.
- 16:38Speaker 1: You did know better. So you're trying to say that
- 16:41Speaker 1: your ma didn't raise you as a three year old
- 16:43Speaker 1: to not go around and bite people because you're mad
- 16:45Speaker 1: at him. Exactly, you're naughty, naughty, naughty, naughty. Ah. So
- 16:53Speaker 1: thankfully a few oils, their heat was back and it's
- 16:56Speaker 1: been cold, Like what are we doing here?
- 17:00Speaker 2: Move out?
- 17:01Speaker 1: Move out or move away like you but your mom
- 17:05Speaker 1: and sister will never move. They love it up here.
- 17:09Speaker 1: So if you can move anywhere in the world right now,
- 17:12Speaker 1: pack up and go and we just where would you go?
- 17:15Speaker 2: Mexico?
- 17:15Speaker 1: Mexico?
- 17:17Speaker 2: Why Mexico so I can have the tacos.
- 17:22Speaker 1: You wouldn't eat Mexican tacos, they would no, you wouldn't
- 17:26Speaker 1: you like taco bell tacos. Those are so far from
- 17:31Speaker 1: what Mexican tacos are first off, they have cornflour tortillas,
- 17:35Speaker 1: which you don't like. You just want to move to
- 17:38Speaker 1: somewhere that has Taco Bell, which we already have.
- 17:42Speaker 2: I want to move back to Harrisville. I like it there.
- 17:47Speaker 2: It's just a small town.
- 17:49Speaker 1: It's pretty small here, just as small I know.
- 17:51Speaker 2: But that there's got Chuck's Market.
- 17:54Speaker 1: We have Taco Bell and grocery stores. We have Stuarts,
- 17:59Speaker 1: have a bowling alley. We have everything. Yep, but well
- 18:02Speaker 1: we do own a house there. Still technically go ahead,
- 18:05Speaker 1: you can move right in. Houses are expensive, right? Anyways?
- 18:09Speaker 1: Did you know that it was so cool? Just I'm
- 18:15Speaker 1: just thankful that we have heat. Our pipes didn't freeze.
- 18:19Speaker 1: You know what it means to have frozen pipes? Why
- 18:22Speaker 1: are you still yawning?
- 18:23Speaker 2: I didn't mean.
- 18:24Speaker 1: You know what you need? You need more Squatch juice,
- 18:27Speaker 1: Squatch joes. It gives you energy, It gives you focus,
- 18:30Speaker 1: It keeps you hydrated, stops you from yawning, and when
- 18:33Speaker 1: your brain is juggling cold, house, math, emotional sports, dad dogs,
- 18:37Speaker 1: you don't crash clean energy, no nonsense, no jitter spiral,
- 18:41Speaker 1: no where you need to go.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Eiler, Squatchduce dot com.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Slash beard Laws, squatshoes dot com slash beard Laws. Because
- 18:48Speaker 1: it's part of the routine now, and if I'm going
- 18:50Speaker 1: to troubleshoot adulthood, I want to do it clear headed.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Every time that you get a cup, it comes with
- 18:57Speaker 2: a sticker.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Don't know if that's true, but I think each order
- 19:02Speaker 1: comes with a sticker, But I don't know about the cup.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Maybe they put the sticker on the cup. They did
- 19:07Speaker 1: that for me, Like you can see in the background
- 19:09Speaker 1: if you're watching this, I don't know that's what I.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Got it from. Right, just kind of looked over.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know if that was special for me,
- 19:17Speaker 1: So don't tell them. Like anyways. Anyways, So the other
- 19:21Speaker 1: day I needed a vacuum right living room got some
- 19:25Speaker 1: ca hair. Apparently nobody else in this house knows how
- 19:28Speaker 1: to vacuum. And this is where bad delusion peaked, because
- 19:33Speaker 1: I was just like, it's just a quick, little vacuum,
- 19:36Speaker 1: super easy, and I feel like that's a lie that
- 19:38Speaker 1: sometimes we tell ourselves. I plug it in and all
- 19:41Speaker 1: of a sudden, the vacuum sounds like it's fighting for oxygen.
- 19:45Speaker 1: It's doesn't saying anything. It's a vacuum cleaner. It's not
- 19:47Speaker 1: from the Jetsons. It doesn't say anything. But it just
- 19:50Speaker 1: smelled hot. It smelled like it was burning. I'm on
- 19:53Speaker 1: vacuum something that can only be described as hardened cement.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I don't know who did it because I don't really vacuum.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Say it again, I a vacuum exactly, so it wasn't me.
- 20:07Speaker 2: At least we know that it wasn't me.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Yes, that is true. So somebody vacuumed up something and
- 20:13Speaker 1: it was I'm telling you, Isla. It was hard as
- 20:16Speaker 1: a rock, all right. And then there was hair wrapped
- 20:19Speaker 1: around the roller like a hostage situation. It smelled like
- 20:22Speaker 1: it was going to combust. So now I had to
- 20:24Speaker 1: tear it all apart, and it was almost like I
- 20:26Speaker 1: was performing vacuum surgery. I had to take out all
- 20:30Speaker 1: the screws. I think there was one, two, three, four.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I think there was seven or eight screws. I had
- 20:35Speaker 1: to take apart the thing. I didn't know that at
- 20:40Speaker 1: some point I needed to pretty much give our vacuum
- 20:43Speaker 1: cleaner a haircut. Whenever that hard stuff was I had
- 20:45Speaker 1: to actually scrape it off with a screwdriver. Yeah, it
- 20:49Speaker 1: was nasty. And you know what's crazy. Nobody warned me
- 20:53Speaker 1: when I was young like you, or even a little
- 20:55Speaker 1: bit older, that I would one day have to give
- 20:57Speaker 1: a vacuum a haircut. Here we are, and you know
- 21:01Speaker 1: what was wild, But it was kind of something satisfying
- 21:05Speaker 1: about fixing it, tearing it all apart, scraping it, cutting it,
- 21:09Speaker 1: cleaning it, vacuuming, and then being able to use it again.
- 21:13Speaker 1: What are you laughing at?
- 21:15Speaker 2: It's some fun well, right that perform surgery on a vacuum.
- 21:22Speaker 1: It was because you know what, I want to try
- 21:26Speaker 1: that again.
- 21:27Speaker 2: You used to rick in a hospital.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Not performing surgeries, knucklehead. It was like I was able
- 21:35Speaker 1: to reclaim order over a chaotic week because it was
- 21:39Speaker 1: finally like I won something, I did something, something went right.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Maybe that's just what like us parents do because we
- 21:46Speaker 1: can't fix everything, but we can fix that vacuum.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, let's let's just hope that that never happened again.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I'm sure it's gonna you'll just have to fix it again.
- 21:58Speaker 1: That's what I'll do. Let's breathe ready, was this week
- 22:03Speaker 1: it wasn't just stress, right, Everything wasn't all bad. I
- 22:06Speaker 1: was able to come back to the tournament a little bit.
- 22:08Speaker 1: When Avery got to play with the team. She had
- 22:10Speaker 1: never played with half those girls before, and they improved
- 22:13Speaker 1: all the way to the point where they won the championship.
- 22:16Speaker 1: And it was pretty special, I guess if you call
- 22:17Speaker 1: it a championship. But they were able to, you know,
- 22:20Speaker 1: improve every single game, start working together and start creating
- 22:23Speaker 1: a bond and some memories with some other kids, you know.
- 22:26Speaker 1: And that's when kids stopped playing individually and they start
- 22:30Speaker 1: playing collectively. The passes were getting sharper, weren't they. Yeah,
- 22:34Speaker 1: the communication it was a getting louder. M hm. How
- 22:37Speaker 1: crazy were the parents and that other team though, No,
- 22:44Speaker 1: we're even paying attention to the game. Probably not, because
- 22:46Speaker 1: you don't when you go to basketball games. You need
- 22:48Speaker 1: to pay attention a little more. Maybe you'll learn the
- 22:50Speaker 1: game a little better.
- 22:51Speaker 2: I'm anything. I didn't even have a phone, No I didn't.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I was calling, okay, coloring with your back to the game,
- 22:59Speaker 1: which I don't get coloring school. But I'm just letting
- 23:01Speaker 1: you know, if you watch and understand the game more,
- 23:03Speaker 1: you will be a better player. They were screaming, they
- 23:08Speaker 1: were yelling.
- 23:09Speaker 2: There was that's exactly.
- 23:12Speaker 1: But you were saying woo woo like that's a good thing.
- 23:15Speaker 1: They were screaming at kids. They were screaming at the
- 23:18Speaker 1: rafts they were kids were squeaking their shoes. There was
- 23:20Speaker 1: bad sportsmanship you because you did page. That's okay. Just
- 23:26Speaker 1: keep coloring and wondering why you sit the bench boom?
- 23:31Speaker 1: What were you coloring?
- 23:33Speaker 2: Coloring? Eleven eleven the number from Stranger Things Fair and
- 23:39Speaker 2: season three?
- 23:41Speaker 1: Did you learn anything by watching the basketball games?
- 23:45Speaker 2: Uh? Huh?
- 23:46Speaker 1: Yeah? What what defense were we in? How many girls
- 23:50Speaker 1: were on the on Avery's team?
- 23:53Speaker 2: There was wait, let me count real quick.
- 23:56Speaker 1: It wasn't eleven.
- 23:58Speaker 2: I don't count. You don't out people were on the team.
- 24:01Speaker 1: It's okay, it's just it's just it was just a joke.
- 24:07Speaker 1: But again, it's not always about winds, kid, it's about growth,
- 24:11Speaker 1: and it's about things that you can see in real time.
- 24:14Speaker 1: And that was that was pretty cool. That was pretty cool?
- 24:17Speaker 2: Six wrong? Seven? Eight? Got it so close?
- 24:22Speaker 1: Really? Could I paying attention? Anyways?
- 24:25Speaker 2: Look count it.
- 24:26Speaker 1: And you're juggling cold houses, emotional gems, and vacuum autopsies.
- 24:31Speaker 1: At least look put together, right, You know how I
- 24:34Speaker 1: look put together? Live bearded. Where do you think they
- 24:38Speaker 1: need to go. That's not gonna work but livebearded dot com.
- 24:41Speaker 1: But they can use code beard laws because you can't
- 24:44Speaker 1: control the week, but you can control how you show up.
- 24:47Speaker 1: And you know what matters, Islah, what confidence? Do you
- 24:50Speaker 1: know what confidence is?
- 24:51Speaker 2: Yes, we'll say I had.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Two tickets to paradize was do a.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Speech for a project, and I'm like, I'm gonna fail.
- 25:04Speaker 2: I'm not going to do this. That's not confidence. But
- 25:06Speaker 2: confidence is like I'm gonna be so good at this,
- 25:09Speaker 2: I'm gonna nail it, and I'm gonna do so good
- 25:12Speaker 2: that it's confidence.
- 25:14Speaker 1: One last thing before we get out of here. I
- 25:15Speaker 1: wanted to get to this. Explain to me this. Why
- 25:19Speaker 1: can't I sleep during a full moon? And why are
- 25:21Speaker 1: kids wild during full moons?
- 25:23Speaker 2: I think because bro an animal?
- 25:26Speaker 1: You think that's why? Yeah?
- 25:28Speaker 2: No, no, the full moon has different energy that makes
- 25:32Speaker 2: us more hyper.
- 25:33Speaker 1: I mean definitely, I would say that there's something in
- 25:35Speaker 1: the energy shifts right, yes, because I know that, like
- 25:38Speaker 1: I'll sit there, I'll be laying there just staring at
- 25:42Speaker 1: the ceiling, like I had espressos at midnight, gets me especial.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Whatever that is I just I don't get it, but
- 25:54Speaker 1: you get it. Something of the energy, right.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Something with the energy. But that's only for scientist.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Do you take science class.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Yeah, but not about the not about the moon.
- 26:03Speaker 1: What do you learn in science?
- 26:04Speaker 2: Then science? We do experiments in science really yeah. Like
- 26:11Speaker 2: we once took uh, paper, paper and paper, we taped
- 26:17Speaker 2: them all together.
- 26:19Speaker 1: No science not hurt minute. Oh my gosh, how many
- 26:23Speaker 1: times in this episode you can tell me to give
- 26:24Speaker 1: you a minute?
- 26:25Speaker 2: Then you're gonna market.
- 26:26Speaker 1: I'm not gonna do any of this.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Oh my god. Market in the middle. You take this slinky,
- 26:32Speaker 2: which you market in the middle. Once you pull out
- 26:34Speaker 2: this slinky, then you put this ball inside this slinky
- 26:38Speaker 2: and you go to like you shake it up with
- 26:41Speaker 2: a partner, and you can and in that little thing.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Even though you're shaking it like crazy, the ball will
- 26:49Speaker 2: not move and it stays right there.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Okay, science and awesome.
- 26:54Speaker 2: And also we did one that you have to take
- 26:59Speaker 2: this laser. It's like a laser thing, but it's not
- 27:04Speaker 2: like one of those lasers where you point out someone
- 27:05Speaker 2: that it hurts. It's a laser and you put it up,
- 27:09Speaker 2: you lay it like a sideways and you put it.
- 27:15Speaker 1: No up arguing with yourself right now, because I'm not saying.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Anything like this. They can't see it.
- 27:21Speaker 1: They can't see it like this.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Yeah, no, like it's but like tilted and more.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Okay, getting ready to wrap it up?
- 27:28Speaker 2: Right? And then you have this mirror. You clip a
- 27:31Speaker 2: clip and you hold it right there, and then you
- 27:34Speaker 2: shine it out there and because of the reflection, it
- 27:37Speaker 2: will make it go back the other way to make
- 27:39Speaker 2: a triangle. Cool, Like, don't science like that. I've done that,
- 27:44Speaker 2: I have I don't it in school?
- 27:46Speaker 1: Perfect? Okay, well, good stuff. Yeah, so I don't know.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Let's let's wrap this up. Yeah, let's wrap it up.
- 27:55Speaker 1: We've had basketball tears, We've had cold nights, vacuum haircuts,
- 27:59Speaker 1: full moon inside and me and my overthinking brain. Right,
- 28:04Speaker 1: it's all been real. That's this season. You know what
- 28:08Speaker 1: this is.
- 28:09Speaker 2: What stay out? Make sure to be kind to everybody.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Do you just program when you hear stay out of
- 28:14Speaker 1: my fridge? You just say that everybody, and even saying
- 28:19Speaker 1: do you have anything to say, you just yeah, do
- 28:21Speaker 1: what I list said. Be kind to everybody.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Make sure to wear a code outside depending on where
- 28:26Speaker 2: you are, because it can be really cold right now,
- 28:29Speaker 2: depending on where you are.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Okay, words of violisms, be kind to everybody, and wear
- 28:35Speaker 1: a coat outside.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Ay.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Bye, that's all we got. I guess we're out of here,
- 28:42Speaker 1: but a knuckle ahead. We'll be back next week. Guess
- 28:46Speaker 1: what I ight the leftover pizza because you shared a
- 28:49Speaker 1: stayed out of my fridge?
- 28:52Speaker 2: Knock.
- 28:54Speaker 1: It's the podcast you stay out of my Fridge? Ready
- 28:59Speaker 1: to got it? Tell the tale gonna make you laugh
- 29:01Speaker 1: and make you smile.
- 29:02Speaker 2: So buckle up, tie, it's gonna be.
