• 2:26
Speaker 4: actually I guess this time next year he would be

Speaker 4: campaigning to the gentleman's name is doctor Stephen Eschenauer and

Speaker 4: three five five zero zero eight. Well to Welcome to
• 2:44
Speaker 4: the show now our good friend sponsor of the show,
• 2:47
Speaker 4: doctor Casey Sachs of Bridge Valley. Good morning, good doctor,
• 2:51
Speaker 4: and welcome to the show.
• 2:52
Speaker 6: Good morning, Gabe. Great to be with you today.
• 2:54
Speaker 4: I got two doctors on the show today. I got you,
• 2:57
Speaker 4: and then I've got a doctor who uh is running
• 3:00
Speaker 4: for state summit. So I got two doctors.
• 3:04
Speaker 6: You must be moving up in the world.
• 3:05
Speaker 4: I guess I get something something like that. I know
• 3:09
Speaker 4: doctor Sachs in my neighborhood. The talk has all been
• 3:12
Speaker 4: about fiber, and I'll have more on that at another time.
• 3:15
Speaker 4: I want to talk about the training programs. Allow you
• 3:18
Speaker 4: to explain this that the training programs at Bridge Valley
• 3:21
Speaker 4: offers for those that want to enter the world of
• 3:23
  Speaker 4: fiber optics.
• 3:25
Speaker 6: So that's a great question. We actually have the only
• 3:28
Speaker 6: what's called a busy certified training facility. It's the only
• 3:31
Speaker 6: one in West Virginia, and it does exactly what you said.
• 3:36
Speaker 6: It helps people really be able to better install all
• 3:39
Speaker 6: kinds of information and communications technology things like fiber.
• 3:44
Speaker 4: And there's a lot of talk about this. As I said,
• 3:47
Speaker 4: it's kind of big in my area in Putnam County
• 3:49
Speaker 4: right now because it's kind of complicated. But the Putnam
• 3:53
Speaker 4: County Commission, you know, got some grants and so on
• 3:56
Speaker 4: and so forth to put fiber. We're just trying to
• 3:58
Speaker 4: trying to keep people, that's right.
• 4:01
Speaker 6: It's actually it's challenging for our employers in the area
• 4:05
Speaker 6: to find people who are certified, who come in and
• 4:08
Speaker 6: already know what they're doing. And it turns out a
• 4:10
Speaker 6: busy certification is pretty fast. It's two intensive, five day courses,
• 4:15
Speaker 6: so after ten full days you can sit for and
• 4:18
  Speaker 6: earn the certification.
• 4:20
Speaker 4: Now, obviously it's going to vary depending on what people
• 4:22
Speaker 4: to go through this program, doctor Sachs, depend on where
• 4:26
Speaker 4: they go and exactly what kind of job. We talk
• 4:28
Speaker 4: in decent money with these jobs, yeah, yeah, they are.
• 4:34
Speaker 6: And I think that's one of the great things about
• 4:36
Speaker 6: Bridge Value is we try really hard to make sure
• 4:38
Speaker 6: the certifications that we train people for lead to what
• 4:41
Speaker 6: we call family sustaining wage jobs. We want people to
• 4:44
Speaker 6: actually get a job where they can pay their rent
• 4:47
Speaker 6: and pay for their childcare and get groceries and still
• 4:50
Speaker 6: have some left over. And so instead of being paycheck
• 4:52
Speaker 6: to paycheck, we try very intentionally to train people for
• 4:56
Speaker 6: jobs that really exist in the community that you could
• 4:58
Speaker 6: feed your family on.
• 5:00
Speaker 4: Talking to again with doctor Cansey Sacksonbridge Valley, the day
• 5:02
Speaker 4: Island showing five any Live is brought to you in
• 5:03
Speaker 4: part about Hustin's Pizza. Well, this month you can pick
• 5:06
Speaker 4: up a large antenn inch pepperoni pizza and an order
• 5:08
Speaker 4: of six meat balls for twenty four ninety nine dining
• 5:10
Speaker 4: and delivery or pickup visit Hustin's Pizza dot Com. One
• 5:14
Speaker 4: of the other sponsors of the show, Charleston Dirty Birds.
• 5:16
Speaker 4: I want to get to them a little bit later on.
• 5:18
Speaker 4: Isn't one night this week Dirty Birds? I mean, I'm sorry,
• 5:21
Speaker 4: Bridge Valley night over at the over at Gomart Ballpark.
• 5:24
Speaker 6: Oh my gosh, you asked me something. I don't remember
• 5:26
Speaker 6: what the day is.
• 5:27
Speaker 4: Yes, well, I will go back through my notes and
• 5:29
Speaker 4: I'll figure out what day it is, because I've got
• 5:31
Speaker 4: I've got notes for all everything going on with the
• 5:33
Speaker 4: Dirty Birds. So I'll get that on a little bit
• 5:35
Speaker 4: later on. But yeah, it is going to be uh
• 5:38
Speaker 4: Bridge Valley night over at the ballpark. What do you
• 5:39
Speaker 4: guys have planned to over there?
• 5:41
Speaker 6: It's Wednesday, it's windy Wednesday, Wednesday, okay, And it's always fun.
• 5:46
Speaker 6: We always do a reception for students. We make sure
• 5:49
Speaker 6: that students can get free tickets, and we want people
• 5:53
Speaker 6: to bring families. We try really hard to have things
• 5:55
Speaker 6: be family friendly events, and the Dirty Birds really fits
• 5:59
  Speaker 6: the bill.
• 6:00
Speaker 4: Yeah, indeed, and it's always a lot of fun over
• 6:02
Speaker 4: the ballpark. Of course, the Dirty Birds have been on
• 6:04
Speaker 4: the road it seems like forever, and they regular season
• 6:07
Speaker 4: starting to close out. They're going to open up a
• 6:09
Speaker 4: series tomorrow night at home that'll take the folks all
• 6:13
Speaker 4: the way through the weekend before they close out the
• 6:14
Speaker 4: regular season next year. It's just a good opportunity for
• 6:17
Speaker 4: you folks at Bridge Valley to get out and just
• 6:19
Speaker 4: talk to people at the ballpark and in the community,
• 6:22
Speaker 4: and plus something good for your students as well.
• 6:25
Speaker 6: It really is. We've been going for years sponsoring one
• 6:27
Speaker 6: of the nice at the ballpark, and we always make
• 6:30
Speaker 6: sure it's right after back to school, so it's an
• 6:32
Speaker 6: early event that students can go to and bring their
• 6:35
Speaker 6: families and just have a nice time.
• 6:37
Speaker 4: And you got a blood drive going on up at Bridge.
• 6:39
Speaker 6: Valley, right, Oh yeah, come give blood. I always think
• 6:42
Speaker 6: that the folks who work for bond Fees are vampires.
• 6:45
Speaker 6: They are wonderful. They are doing such a great service
• 6:48
Speaker 6: for our community. September fifteenth, anyone can come. We set
• 6:53
Speaker 6: it up on campus over in Building two thousand on
• 6:55
Speaker 6: purpose because as many of your longtime listeners know that
• 6:58
Speaker 6: our students are eligible for a financial aid program called
• 7:02
Speaker 6: West Virginia Invests and you qualify for that program by
• 7:06
Speaker 6: doing some community service, and it turns out giving blood
• 7:09
Speaker 6: counts for a couple of hours of community service. So
• 7:11
Speaker 6: we try and make it easy and.
• 7:13
Speaker 4: Go wrong there. You got a golf tournament coming up
• 7:15
Speaker 4: later this month we do.
• 7:17
Speaker 6: If you're not signed up yet, please sign up September
• 7:19
Speaker 6: twenty ninth. It should be a really good time. We're
• 7:22
Speaker 6: up at Edgewood this year and it looks like we're
• 7:25
Speaker 6: fixing to sell out, so we're pretty excited about it.
• 7:28
Speaker 4: Yeah, well, it's to be a great time, you know.
• 7:29
Speaker 4: I mean, golfers love this sort of thing. And let's
• 7:32
Speaker 4: be honest with you with ourselves. You know, we only
• 7:34
Speaker 4: have a couple of weeks left in summer. Meteorological fall
• 7:38
Speaker 4: is already here, so I'm not going to have a
• 7:40
Speaker 4: whole lot of more times for golfers to be able
• 7:42
Speaker 4: to get out and play golf. So if you'd like
• 7:45
Speaker 4: to help out, I guess they just go to the
• 7:46
Speaker 4: website if they'd like to put together a team.
• 7:49
Speaker 6: That's right, Bridge Valley dot edu.
• 7:51
Speaker 4: All right, and we talk a lot about the fame
• 7:53
Speaker 4: program that you have there, and I understand you were
• 7:56
Speaker 4: telling me about this. You've got a special student taking
• 7:59
Speaker 4: part in the program that you're very proud of. It's
• 8:01
Speaker 4: a young lady by the name of Kaylee Taylor. Tell
• 8:03
  Speaker 4: us Kaylee's story.
• 8:05
Speaker 6: Well, we're proud of all of our studiures, but I
• 8:07
Speaker 6: was bragging about Kaylee with you earlier because she's in
• 8:11
Speaker 6: the same program. So it means she comes to Bridge
• 8:13
Speaker 6: Valley a couple of days a week for her classes,
• 8:15
Speaker 6: she goes to work at Toyota three days a week
• 8:17
Speaker 6: for a full time job, and she's just really getting
• 8:20
Speaker 6: that hands on experience. She said something like, I just
• 8:25
Speaker 6: love that I get to apply what I'm learning at work.
• 8:27
Speaker 6: It's not just theory, it's what we're actually doing at work.
• 8:30
Speaker 6: And I think it was such a great capture of
• 8:33
Speaker 6: that theme program that you really are earning a paycheck
• 8:35
Speaker 6: and advancing your skills at the same time.
• 8:37
Speaker 4: And again, we have you on a couple times a month,
• 8:39
Speaker 4: and you've talked a lot about the FAME program, but
• 8:42
Speaker 4: if people are tendering in for the first time, explain
• 8:44
Speaker 4: what the FAME program is.
• 8:45
Speaker 6: A Bridge Valley so same is the Federation for Advanced
• 8:49
Speaker 6: Manufacturing Education. It's a group of local manufacturers that have
• 8:53
Speaker 6: gotten together that have said they really have workforce needs,
• 8:57
Speaker 6: and so they have agreed on the classes that you
• 8:59
Speaker 6: need to take Bridge Valley, and they hire students at
• 9:02
Speaker 6: the beginning of their experience and then keep students in
• 9:06
Speaker 6: school and pay them while they're going to school so
• 9:08
Speaker 6: that they can earn a degree and have a job.
• 9:11
Speaker 4: Doctor k cy Sachs of Bridge Valley, it's always a
• 9:14
Speaker 4: pleasure to talk to you. Give the folks to the
• 9:16
  Speaker 4: website again.
• 9:17
Speaker 6: If you would, it's Bridge Valley dot edu.
• 9:20
Speaker 4: All right, we'll talk again soon. Thanks a lot, Thanks Jeeve,
• 9:23
Speaker 4: Doctor kcy Sachs, Bridge Valley. It's nine to sixteen to

• 9:30
Speaker 4: The announcement made at Capital Market on Friday around noontime
• 9:34
Speaker 4: about this to send West Virginia program, it's gonna be
• 9:37
Speaker 4: a big deal for Charleston. We've already seen that this
• 9:39
Speaker 4: is a program that's designed to get people to want
• 9:42
Speaker 4: to move here, and there are definitely economic incentives for
• 9:46
Speaker 4: people to move to Charles. We've already seen this in
• 9:48

Speaker 12: So? Primarily practice emergency medicine, but I'm also highly involved
• 14:05
Speaker 12: in public health, running the health department here at the
• 14:07
Speaker 12: Kenal Charleston Health Department.
• 14:09
Speaker 4: I was going to say, for those of you that
• 14:10
Speaker 4: are I mean people have probably heard your name in
• 14:12
Speaker 4: the news for good reasons. I mean, tell us about
• 14:16
  Speaker 4: your work there.
• 14:17
Speaker 12: So public health is obviously it's a big issue because
• 14:21
Speaker 12: it's about all of us. As I tell people frequently,
• 14:24
Speaker 12: health is human. It's about every single one of us,
• 14:28
Speaker 12: protecting us from diseases, trying to keep food safe in
• 14:33
Speaker 12: our communities, and of course about education on what we
• 14:39
Speaker 12: can do to protect ourselves should there be a pandemic,
• 14:42
Speaker 12: which we all definitely don't want to again, but also
• 14:45
Speaker 12: about childhood diseases as well.
• 14:48
Speaker 4: So why would a doctor and somebody with your experience,
• 14:51
Speaker 4: why would you also want to take this on to
• 14:53
Speaker 4: be a state senator?
• 14:55
Speaker 12: I think it's very important that we have a broad
• 14:58
Speaker 12: breadth of different individuals with skill sets within our legislature. Currently,
• 15:04
Speaker 12: we have one physician in the Senate, doctor Tom Takubo,
• 15:07
Speaker 12: and he's done a tremendous job there, but to have
• 15:11
Speaker 12: more voices that bring a similar background. Not only am
• 15:16
Speaker 12: I an er physician where you see the full breadth
• 15:18
Speaker 12: of our community, from the richest, the poorest, to the
• 15:22
Speaker 12: youngest to the oldest. You truly see the entire community,
• 15:26
Speaker 12: but we also have the opportunity within public health to
• 15:30
Speaker 12: see what is affecting our community. As you know, West
• 15:34
Speaker 12: Virginia is a it's not one of the healthiest states,
• 15:38
Speaker 12: and we really really would like to see us move
• 15:40
Speaker 12: in a direction towards a healthier state and a safer state.
• 15:45
Speaker 4: What's some of the things that if you are elected,
• 15:48
Speaker 4: with being that you have this background as a physician,
• 15:52
Speaker 4: what were some of the things that you would like
• 15:53
  Speaker 4: to see implemented.
• 15:55
Speaker 12: Believe it or not, The first thing at the top
• 15:57
Speaker 12: of my list is economics here in West Virginia. As
• 16:00
Speaker 12: you know, we've lost a lot of jobs. I'm also
• 16:03
Speaker 12: a small business owner own trophy whitetail hunts on the
• 16:07
Speaker 12: Cannel Jackson county line, and it's very difficult when we've
• 16:12
Speaker 12: seen so many people have to leave the state for
• 16:14
Speaker 12: economic reasons. So actually that's probably at the top of
• 16:17
Speaker 12: my list. And of course you can't talk about economy
• 16:20
Speaker 12: without education. I had the opportunity to do a lot
• 16:24
Speaker 12: of education. Didn't necessarily want to, but I had to
• 16:26
Speaker 12: go through it anyway. Bachelor's, doctorate, NBA, All of that
• 16:30
Speaker 12: education comes with time and experience. Having an educated workforce
• 16:35
Speaker 12: is very important to me. My children all went to
• 16:38
Speaker 12: public school here in West Virginia. Very proud of that
• 16:41
Speaker 12: we have a good public school system. They need our support,
• 16:45
Speaker 12: our support from the community to continue to improve the
• 16:49
Speaker 12: offerings that we have. And then, of course there is
• 16:52
Speaker 12: the health. That's one of the gorillas in the room
• 16:54
Speaker 12: as well, being a state that struggles with obesity, heart disease,
• 17:00
Speaker 12: I cancer rates, addressing those issues as well. There's so
• 17:04
Speaker 12: many diverse elements from both my career and the needs
• 17:09
Speaker 12: of our community that I feel that I can bring
• 17:12
Speaker 12: some real world experience to talk to.
• 17:15
Speaker 4: You know, doctor Stephen Ashnauer, who is a Republican candidate
• 17:17
Speaker 4: for state center. You talked about the health in West Virginia,
• 17:21
Speaker 4: but you also said the top of your list was
• 17:23
Speaker 4: the economy. And it's always been my belief, and you
• 17:26
Speaker 4: can weigh in on this that you'd be surprised what
• 17:29
Speaker 4: can happen in the health of our state, or any
• 17:32
Speaker 4: state for that matter, if you have a good economy,
• 17:35
Speaker 4: because a lot of these things, a lot of these
• 17:37
Speaker 4: issues with health simply put go back to a lack
• 17:40
Speaker 4: of opportunities through jobs and education and things that you'd
• 17:45
Speaker 4: be surprised. It's not to mean people can be unhealthy,
• 17:48
Speaker 4: you know, at any age or any walk of life,
• 17:50
Speaker 4: but a lot of it does tie back to the economy.
• 17:53
Speaker 12: Absolutely, you hit the nail on the head. Economy plays
• 17:58
Speaker 12: a tremendous role in what we call social determinants of health.
• 18:01
Speaker 12: If you have the ability to pay to go to
• 18:03
Speaker 12: a dentist, then you're more likely to get dental care
• 18:07
Speaker 12: versus getting to the point that you have dental carries, toothaches,
• 18:11
Speaker 12: end up in the er, having to have teeth removed
• 18:13
Speaker 12: at a young age. And that's tragic to see someone
• 18:17
Speaker 12: lose their teeth by the age of thirty because they
• 18:19
Speaker 12: didn't have the means to even go to a dentist.
• 18:21
Speaker 12: That's just one simple example. But it's a common example
• 18:24
Speaker 12: here in West Virginia. I think of the economy as
• 18:28
Speaker 12: a tide. It's the tide that comes in and raises
• 18:31
Speaker 12: all ships, including the health ship education. Obviously, if we
• 18:36
Speaker 12: have more funds that we can put into education through
• 18:39
Speaker 12: a stronger economy, that is going to help our educational
• 18:42
Speaker 12: system and also provide additional educational opportunities for our kids.
• 18:47
Speaker 12: It's not just about going to college. It's also about
• 18:49
Speaker 12: growing our trades and other non college skills that are
• 18:53
  Speaker 12: essential for employers.
• 18:55
Speaker 4: Can we talk to you talking with doctor Stephen Seshnauer,
• 18:58
Speaker 4: who is a Republican camp for State Centate. A Dave
• 19:00
Speaker 4: Island Show on five eighty Live is bronching in part
• 19:03
Speaker 4: by your hometown baseball team, The Charles The Dirty Birds
• 19:05
Speaker 4: mentioned earlier. The Birds are finally back at home tomorrow night,
• 19:07
Speaker 4: final home stand of the regular season, as they'll be
• 19:10
Speaker 4: taken on Gastoni. It's actually a pretty long series through
• 19:12
Speaker 4: Sunday at Gomart Ballpark. For tickets, promotion schedule, Dirty Birds
• 19:16
Speaker 4: merchandise and more, visit dirty Birds baseball dot com. You
• 19:19
Speaker 4: mentioned that your kids went through public school. There's been
• 19:23
Speaker 4: a I guess over the last couple of years that
• 19:25
Speaker 4: right or wrong, there's been a perception that some of
• 19:30
Speaker 4: the folks under the doll maybe don't some don't value
• 19:33
Speaker 4: public education. Now I'm not saying all and I'm just
• 19:36
Speaker 4: saying what other people have said. You're a big believer
• 19:38
  Speaker 4: in public education.
• 19:39
  Speaker 11: Though I am.
• 19:41
Speaker 12: I think that it's good to have additional opportunities because
• 19:45
Speaker 12: competition can be good. But for most West Virginians, looking
• 19:50
Speaker 12: at how rural we are, it's essential that we have
• 19:52
Speaker 12: a strong public school system. It would be very difficult
• 19:56
Speaker 12: for say a private school to open in Calhoun County
• 20:00
Speaker 12: or Work County, where it's very rural, very difficult for
• 20:03
Speaker 12: people to get their kids to school. So having a
• 20:06
Speaker 12: choice to go to a private school might be good
• 20:08
Speaker 12: in Charleston and available, but we don't need to make
• 20:14
Speaker 12: that at the expense of our public school system.
• 20:17
Speaker 4: Got you, of course, we know that you're a doctor,
• 20:21
Speaker 4: so I want to want to learn more about you
• 20:24
Speaker 4: the person, though away from the white coat you know,
• 20:28
Speaker 4: and away from what you hope to achieve in the legislature.
• 20:31
Speaker 4: Give us a little byo on you personally.
• 20:33
Speaker 12: So I enlisted in the army at the ripe age
• 20:36
Speaker 12: of eighteen and stayed for thirty years. I really enjoyed
• 20:39
Speaker 12: my experience in the military because it taught me a
• 20:42
Speaker 12: lot of things about life, life lessons that are hard.
• 20:48
Speaker 12: Went to war four times, deployed three to Iraq and
• 20:50
Speaker 12: thank you for your service, by the way, thank you much,
• 20:52
Speaker 12: and once to Afghanistan. And during those those deployments seeing
• 20:58
Speaker 12: what the world geopoliticals stages was I think very instrumental
• 21:02
Speaker 12: in my education experience. In running a small business here
• 21:07
Speaker 12: in West Virginia, we opened Trophy Whitetail Hunts a few
• 21:11
Speaker 12: years ago and continue to attract people that many of
• 21:14
Speaker 12: our customers have never even been to the state of
• 21:16
Speaker 12: West Virginia one time, and it's an opportunity to help
• 21:22
Speaker 12: spotlight and showcase our state and how beautiful it is
• 21:25
Speaker 12: and how great our people are. The grit and resiliency
• 21:30
Speaker 12: that we see in West Virginia is rare compared to
• 21:35
Speaker 12: a lot of other areas I've been to. We can
• 21:38
Speaker 12: be a very tenacious state, and I want to see
• 21:41
Speaker 12: our outsiders that haven't been here and might have a
• 21:44
Speaker 12: misconception of the state come here and experience it.
• 21:49
Speaker 4: What do you see? What does West Virginia in your
• 21:51
Speaker 4: opinion need to do to further market ourselves. And I'm
• 21:56
Speaker 4: not talking about just necessarily tourism, and you know, Chelsea
• 21:59
Speaker 4: Rubino folks do a great job with that. But I'm
• 22:01
Speaker 4: talking about getting people to want to move here and
• 22:03
Speaker 4: to stay here, or the people that go through our
• 22:05
Speaker 4: school system to want to stay here, whether they're in
• 22:09
Speaker 4: the trades, whether they go into a four year institution, whatever.
• 22:12
Speaker 4: What can we do to get people doctor to want
• 22:16
Speaker 4: to stay here? I mentioned the as sen program. We're
• 22:17
Speaker 4: going to talk to may or a good one in
• 22:19
Speaker 4: Mara Boggs from the Charleston Area Alliance about that it's
• 22:22
Speaker 4: coming to Charleston's already in Morgantown, it's already in eastern
• 22:25
Speaker 4: Panhandle on Elkins in the Greenbrier Valley. What can we
• 22:27
Speaker 4: do to get more of those people to want to stay.
• 22:33
Speaker 12: I went to the business meeting Ethic Greenberg a couple
• 22:36
Speaker 12: of weeks ago, and I ask a number of business
• 22:38
Speaker 12: owners what are your pain points? And in learning what
• 22:42
Speaker 12: the pain points are of businesses that already exist here,
• 22:46
Speaker 12: listening to the businesses that are providing the jobs an
• 22:50
Speaker 12: opportunity in our economy to find out what it takes
• 22:54
Speaker 12: for them to grow and expand to attract other talent here.
• 22:58
Speaker 12: We as a state need to be very supportive of
• 23:00
Speaker 12: those businesses that are already in existence to grow and
• 23:04
Speaker 12: attract people to West Virginia. I think that's one part
• 23:07
Speaker 12: of the equation. The other part of the equation is
• 23:12
Speaker 12: what is it that other businesses are looking for that
• 23:15
Speaker 12: are looking to expand that are not in West Virginia
• 23:18
Speaker 12: To attract them here to the state to come and
• 23:20
Speaker 12: see the state, and for us as a state to
• 23:23
Speaker 12: help them build out the infrastructure where a mountainous state,
• 23:26
Speaker 12: things like buildable land can be difficult, infrastructure can be difficult, gas, electric, water,
• 23:32
Speaker 12: sewer to develop out sites to attract those businesses here
• 23:37
Speaker 12: and the people that they employ.
• 23:40
Speaker 4: What do you think West Virginia has going for it
• 23:42
  Speaker 4: in your opinion?
• 23:44
Speaker 12: Obviously, natural resources have always been a huge element for
• 23:48
Speaker 12: us Cole Yeah, it's been on the decline, but gas
• 23:52
Speaker 12: is definitely on the rise for West Virginia. I think
• 23:56
Speaker 12: we have what's going forward as constant improving and favorable
• 24:01
Speaker 12: tax structure that is attractive to business, and we need
• 24:05
Speaker 12: to continue to mold that tax structure to attract people
• 24:09
Speaker 12: to West Virginia. We have gritty, resilient people that want
• 24:13
Speaker 12: to stay here and are willing to work. Our wages
• 24:17
Speaker 12: compared to many other states are lower, but so is
• 24:20
Speaker 12: our cost of living. But West Virginia we have a
• 24:23
Speaker 12: beauty and a community that's just hard to match in
• 24:26
  Speaker 12: other states.
• 24:28
Speaker 4: The Democrats, of course, we're in control to West Virginia
• 24:31
Speaker 4: for eighty three years. The Republicans have taken over. It's
• 24:34
Speaker 4: been in a little over ten years now, and then
• 24:36
Speaker 4: we have the super majority followed by the super super
• 24:38
Speaker 4: majority copyright day val. So with that, though, can come,
• 24:43
Speaker 4: just like with the Democrats, can come from fracturing. You know,
• 24:46
Speaker 4: where you have this side, it may be way far right,
• 24:49
Speaker 4: this so far this side that may be more moderate.
• 24:53
Speaker 4: As a Republican now the ruling party in West Virginia,
• 24:56
Speaker 4: how do you balance those things? Because you go in,
• 24:58
Speaker 4: you know, and you've got to be able to not
• 25:00
Speaker 4: only work with the Democrats on things, but you also
• 25:02
Speaker 4: got to be able to work with folks within your
• 25:05
Speaker 4: own party. So how do you balance that?
• 25:07
Speaker 12: So my thought on it is this, fine, listen to
• 25:12
Speaker 12: our constituency. What is our constituency telling us that we
• 25:16
Speaker 12: need to be doing. Number One is the we need
• 25:19
Speaker 12: to all be focused on the economy, and I think
• 25:21
Speaker 12: everybody within both parties will agree on that. Piece two
• 25:25
Speaker 12: is focusing on education within our state. I think almost
• 25:29
Speaker 12: everybody in the state can agree on that piece of it,
• 25:32
Speaker 12: and of course agreeing on infrastructure. If we stay focused
• 25:36
Speaker 12: on what matters to the constituency, we won't get off
• 25:41
Speaker 12: track arguing over elements that don't move the needle of
• 25:47
Speaker 12: West Virginia. And I think it's dangerous to get into
• 25:50
Speaker 12: the weeds of being bogged down with issues that don't
• 25:54
Speaker 12: move the state forward. So it's focus, focus, focus, focus
• 25:59
Speaker 12: on what our constituents are telling us.
• 26:03
Speaker 4: Talk about your campaign strategy. I know it's early, you
• 26:05
Speaker 4: just announced, you know that you're gonna be running. So
• 26:08
Speaker 4: are you a door knocking kind of guy? What are
• 26:11
Speaker 4: you gonna What are you gonna do?
• 26:13
Speaker 12: So if you look at the map of the eighth district,
• 26:15
Speaker 12: the majority of it is very rural. So I've already
• 26:18
Speaker 12: been out to county fairs and have several parades on tap.
• 26:24
Speaker 12: But what I've learned is that you you do have
• 26:26
Speaker 12: to get out in the community because the majority of
• 26:29
Speaker 12: my voters in the Republican Party are in these rural
• 26:32
Speaker 12: counties where I have lived for the last twenty five years.
• 26:37
Speaker 12: That includes talking with going to like the cattle auction
• 26:44
Speaker 12: I was there day before yesterday, to where from Jackson
• 26:48
Speaker 12: County and Jackson County, going out to where the farmers
• 26:50
Speaker 12: are coming to and listening to them. What are your struggles.
• 26:53
  Speaker 12: And it's a it's a difficult district because it is
• 26:58
Speaker 12: so spread out and you only have one real concentration
• 27:01
Speaker 12: population here in Charleston, and the rest of it is
• 27:04
Speaker 12: pretty rural. So my focus is going to be on
• 27:08
Speaker 12: the rural counties because that's the majority of the Republican voters.
• 27:12
Speaker 4: You have a website, social media, you want to direct
• 27:15
  Speaker 4: people to.
• 27:15
Speaker 11: I sure do, Sure do.
• 27:17
Speaker 12: So We've got the website launched and it's doc E
• 27:21
Speaker 12: for West virgin for WV dot com, doc FORWV dot com.
• 27:25
Speaker 4: Okay, all right, well I'll be sure and chain in
• 27:27
Speaker 4: your course, run social media and all the other things.
• 27:29
Speaker 12: Or you will, yes, yes, getting all that wound up
• 27:32
Speaker 12: ready for the campaign.
• 27:33
Speaker 4: All right, we do a thing we call the final thirty.
• 27:35
Speaker 4: Whenever I have a Candida, don I give you thirty
• 27:37
Speaker 4: seconds uninterrupted by me, not necessarily timed to tell me
• 27:42
Speaker 4: why should people vote for you?
• 27:44
Speaker 12: So, fellow West Virginians. I've been serving our state and
• 27:49
Speaker 12: our country since i was eighteen years old. We desperately
• 27:53
Speaker 12: need servant leaders in both the Senate, the House, and
• 27:57
Speaker 12: the executive branch. And what I mean by servant leadership
• 28:01
Speaker 12: are individuals that are proven and have experience of putting
• 28:05
Speaker 12: skin in the game of serving our state, not for themselves,
• 28:10
Speaker 12: but for our constituency, for our fellow citizens, for our mountaineers.
• 28:15
Speaker 12: We need to serve West Virginia in the legislature. We
• 28:19
Speaker 12: don't need to serve ourselves. We need to listen to
• 28:22
Speaker 12: our constituency and we need to take care of our constituency.
• 28:26
Speaker 12: I've been taking care of West Virginians since I first
• 28:29
Speaker 12: went to war as a physician, and continue in our
• 28:32
Speaker 12: emergency departments today and in public health, and wish to
• 28:35
Speaker 12: continue to serve you, our fellow West Virginians in the Senate.

Speaker 4: Welcome back to the show. Twenty two minutes away from
• 31:49
Speaker 4: ten o'clock Bike Announcement Friday over Capitol Market, Charleston, West Virginia.
• 31:52
Speaker 4: About to enter the whole Ascend West Virginia World. Our
• 31:55
Speaker 4: Bogs from Charleston Ery Alliance is here along with Charleston
• 31:58
Speaker 4: Maror Amy Schuler. Goodman, A good one, good MANE. I
• 32:01
Speaker 4: just changed your name. It's fine, it's Amy. I'll get
• 32:06
Speaker 4: Maria right. Good morning, welcome to the show.
• 32:09
  Speaker 16: Good morning.
• 32:10
Speaker 4: So let's explain what the program is to people.
• 32:14
Speaker 16: Okay, good morning. It's great to be here with Mayor
• 32:16
Speaker 16: Goodwin of you, Dave. The Ascend program is just one piece,
• 32:20
Speaker 16: but a very important piece of an economic development strategy,
• 32:24
Speaker 16: and it addresses our most pressing issue, which is population loss.
• 32:28
Speaker 16: So this program will bring new West Virginians to the
• 32:32
Speaker 16: Charles scenario. We're so excited about it.
• 32:34
Speaker 4: And Mayor talk about from the city because, as I
• 32:37
Speaker 4: mentioned earlier, I mean we had university presidents, Kenawh County Commission.
• 32:41
Speaker 4: I mean, you don't do a program like this in
• 32:43
Speaker 4: any of the years without a buy in from everybody.
• 32:45
Speaker 4: Talk about the city's involvement in this, yeah.
• 32:46
Speaker 17: I will, But let me go all the way back,
• 32:48
Speaker 17: because you want to talk about buy in. The buy
• 32:50
Speaker 17: in and truly it was the belief that Brad and
• 32:54
Speaker 17: Elie Smith had in West Virginia and Appalachian and Appalachians.
• 32:58
Speaker 17: I mean they sunk twenty five million dollars in to
• 33:01
Speaker 17: start this program initially, and you know their vision and
• 33:04
Speaker 17: their dream is to make sure it's not just about jobs.
• 33:07
Speaker 17: It's the reason why I love the Ascend program. It's
• 33:09
Speaker 17: about your life because you and I both know that
• 33:12
Speaker 17: a job is fulfilling. My job is fulfilling it it
• 33:15
Speaker 17: gobbles up a lot of my life. But also there
• 33:17
Speaker 17: are other aspects. And so when you join the Ascend program,
• 33:21
Speaker 17: it is about relocating to the Mountain State, but it's
• 33:24
Speaker 17: also connecting you to the spaces and places that you'll live,
• 33:27
Speaker 17: work and play. And so initially it was started cities
• 33:30
Speaker 17: that were now the sixth It's I haven't written down,
• 33:33
Speaker 17: but hopefully I can remember them off the top of
• 33:35
Speaker 17: my head. It's Morgantown at Shepherdstown, It's Greenbrier Valley, it
• 33:39
Speaker 17: is New River Gorge and Charleston and we're so delighted
• 33:43
Speaker 17: to be part of this sixty five thousand. By the way,
• 33:46
Speaker 17: people want to move here. People want to move here.
• 33:49
Speaker 17: We started a roots program with the Charleston Aarrey Alliance
• 33:52
Speaker 17: years ago when the Smith Foundation said, you know, hang on,
• 33:56
Speaker 17: we're We've got initial cities picked and quite frankly, we
• 34:00
Speaker 17: were a little jealous about all that they were doing.
• 34:03
Speaker 17: But we know it works. This is a this is
• 34:06
Speaker 17: a program and a project that works. You know, it's
• 34:09
Speaker 17: twenty thousand dollars in incentives, it's twelve thousand dollars in cash.
• 34:14
Speaker 17: It makes a difference.
• 34:15
  Speaker 3: You know.
• 34:15
Speaker 17: When we started the Roots program, I had the opportunity
• 34:17
Speaker 17: to interview one of the young women who applied, and
• 34:21
Speaker 17: she was living on the other side of the country
• 34:23
Speaker 17: and I said to her, so, she said, I want
• 34:26
Speaker 17: to move to West Virginia. I've always wanted to move
• 34:27
Speaker 17: you know, I have family there and I'd like to
• 34:29
Speaker 17: move back. And I said, well, why haven't you? She said,
• 34:31
  Speaker 17: because I have to rent a U haul and I
• 34:34
Speaker 17: have to pay rent, and then I have to pay
• 34:36
Speaker 17: a deposit. And those are expensive things. Oh yeah, there
• 34:39
Speaker 17: were expensive things. And so moving folks to a place
• 34:42
Speaker 17: that they want to be, having that financial incentive is important.
• 34:46
Speaker 17: But the most important thing the Ascend program gives are
• 34:49
Speaker 17: ascenders is which calls much I like that? Is that connection?
• 34:56
Speaker 17: Is that connection? I'm a mayor, but I'm a mom first,
• 34:58
Speaker 17: and if my kid went to another city, I want
• 35:00
Speaker 17: to want to make sure that they had deep roots
• 35:02
Speaker 17: and connection. And that's what Brad and Aali Smith knew
• 35:06
Speaker 17: would work. Connect them to their job, but connect them
• 35:09
Speaker 17: to the outdoors and the things that make us wild
• 35:11
  Speaker 17: and wonderful.
• 35:12
Speaker 16: And they have a ninety seven percent retention rate in
• 35:15
Speaker 16: this program that is unprecedented across the nation, really across anything.
• 35:19
Speaker 16: Ninety seven percent of ascenders stay in West Virginia.
• 35:23
Speaker 4: So talk about the Okay, somebody's listened to this right now.
• 35:25
Speaker 4: They're thinking, Okay, this sounds great. Put it into put
• 35:28
Speaker 4: the wheels into motion, Marien, Mayor, how does it work?
• 35:31
Speaker 16: Okay, So there's the ascend website. Since Friday, we announced
• 35:35
Speaker 16: this at one o'clock on Friday. Since Friday, there's been
• 35:39
Speaker 16: one hundred applications to move to Charleston.
• 35:43
Speaker 4: West Virginia from all over the country.
• 35:45
Speaker 16: All over the country. And I don't have all the
• 35:47
Speaker 16: analytics about like which states they're coming from. We'll get
• 35:49
  Speaker 16: that very soon.
• 35:50
Speaker 17: But since Friday, just late Friday, by the way, she
• 35:54
Speaker 17: texted me late Friday and said it's up.
• 35:57
Speaker 4: That's right, because the announcement was made like midday, twelve,
• 36:00
Speaker 4: one o'clock or whatever. It was over at Capital Market.
• 36:02
Speaker 4: And so since Friday, and like the mayor said, we'll
• 36:05
Speaker 4: just go ahead and say at posts three four o'clock
• 36:07
Speaker 4: or whatever when it went up. We've had one hundred
• 36:09
Speaker 4: people apply to move here.
• 36:11
Speaker 16: That's correct, and so what they now do is they apply.
• 36:14
Speaker 16: The application process is not easy. It's pretty extensive. The
• 36:17
Speaker 16: ASCEND program managed out a WVU doctor Danny Twilley, Mark
• 36:22
Speaker 16: Gavin Will. They have an application process so these people
• 36:26
Speaker 16: get interviewed and then the best of the best get
• 36:29
Speaker 16: selected to move to West Virginia. So we'll probably see
• 36:33
Speaker 16: just realistically, I would say November or December our first
• 36:37
Speaker 16: ascender moving here to try.
• 36:38
Speaker 17: Sixty five thousand applications since this launch, sixty five thousand
• 36:44
Speaker 17: people said, you know what, that looks like a good
• 36:47
Speaker 17: deal for me. One hundred and four countries. So we're
• 36:51
Speaker 17: not just talking about across the United States. We're talking
• 36:54
Speaker 17: about across the world. Because, as you and I both know, Dave,
• 36:58
Speaker 17: technology is, you know, it's hard to keep up. There
• 37:01
Speaker 17: are so many remote workers. You can literally work anywhere
• 37:07
Speaker 17: and live anywhere now, especially in the Mountain State. There
• 37:09
Speaker 17: are mayors who had the ASCEND program long before I did.
• 37:13
Speaker 17: Used to puff up their chest mar and just walk
• 37:15
Speaker 17: around and say we're one of them, because it is
• 37:18
Speaker 17: something to be proud of in something and a program
• 37:21
Speaker 17: to really puff your chest up about.
• 37:24
Speaker 16: And we can't afford not to do this because other
• 37:26
Speaker 16: cities are. We're being left behind if we don't do this.
• 37:30
Speaker 4: All right, So I'm a person and I have gone
• 37:33
Speaker 4: on your website and I have read the information, and
• 37:37
Speaker 4: I decide I'm going to do this. What happens to me?
• 37:39
Speaker 4: What take me through the program? After I've decided I
• 37:42
Speaker 4: want to do this? What do I get? Take me
• 37:44
Speaker 4: through the Just use an example.
• 37:45
Speaker 16: Sure, So, say you're moving from California and you get
• 37:50
Speaker 16: in the application process. You apply the ASCEND program says
• 37:53
Speaker 16: you look like you're a good candidate for this, so
• 37:56
Speaker 16: you will have an interview and then you'll be notified
• 38:00
Speaker 16: if you're selected or not. So, if you're selected, you
• 38:03
Speaker 16: sign a contract stating what you will and won't do
• 38:07
Speaker 16: for the next two years. And then you move to
• 38:09
Speaker 16: West Virginia. And then once you get to West Virginia
• 38:13
Speaker 16: you get all these benefits. So you get a shared
• 38:15
Speaker 16: working space which is in the Charlestonnaria Alliance headquarters. It's
• 38:18
Speaker 16: not on our fourth floor. I invite you or anybody
• 38:20
Speaker 16: to come see it.
• 38:21
  Speaker 2: It's beautiful.
• 38:23
Speaker 16: You get access to outdoor recreation opportunities both at events
• 38:29
Speaker 16: that the ASCEND Program puts on, and then we'll have
• 38:31
Speaker 16: a gear rental area, so if you want to go
• 38:35
Speaker 16: stand up paddle board biking but you don't have one,
• 38:38
Speaker 16: we'll have those available to you. And then the networking opportunities.
• 38:42
Speaker 16: Not only that the Charleston Area Alliance, the City, the County,
• 38:45
Speaker 16: all our organizations put on, but the ASCEND Program will
• 38:48
Speaker 16: also put on networking opportunities, so you really get in
• 38:53
Speaker 16: here and get to know our community.
• 38:55
Speaker 4: And I think it's very important, Mayor, and you kind
• 38:57
Speaker 4: of alluded to this. You know, a job is eight
• 39:00
Speaker 4: hours a day, eight nine hours a day, whatever the
• 39:02
Speaker 4: case may be. You got to the job alone is
• 39:05
Speaker 4: not going when people are trying to make the decision
• 39:07
Speaker 4: where to go, the job alone is not what's going
• 39:10
Speaker 4: to bring them there, because there's going to be times
• 39:11
Speaker 4: that they're not working. And when we see the people
• 39:15
Speaker 4: with this program, they tend to be younger people, people
• 39:18
Speaker 4: younger than I am, a lot younger. And this generation
• 39:23
Speaker 4: loves experiences. My generation love money. That's all we cared
• 39:27
Speaker 4: about was the money.
• 39:28
Speaker 17: Okay, big car's big, big big cars, big.
• 39:30
Speaker 4: Houses exactly what's over it is, I.
• 39:33
Speaker 17: Mean to your point. So your point it is my
• 39:36
Speaker 17: kids want a life. The kids now who are graduating school,
• 39:40
Speaker 17: they want a life, They want their career to be
• 39:42
  Speaker 17: a central party.
• 39:43
Speaker 4: Probably be better off for it too, you know.
• 39:45
Speaker 17: I really do think so. And it is the secret
• 39:49
Speaker 17: sauce is. You said it earlier on the radio. I
• 39:51
Speaker 17: was listening to my way over. You said, gosh, you is.
• 39:54
Speaker 17: You know, You've got w You've got Marshall, got the
• 39:56
Speaker 17: state of West Virginia, you got the Charlestonnarry lines, You've
• 39:58
Speaker 17: got the city, you got the county, You've boy, everybody's
• 40:01
Speaker 17: into it. There's a reason. There is a reason why,
• 40:04
Speaker 17: because it works. And this is you know, is there
• 40:08
Speaker 17: a silver bowler or anything. No, there is not. But
• 40:11
Speaker 17: you know, I can't give credit enough to the Charlestonnary
• 40:13
Speaker 17: Alliance for really pulling this together. It's by the way,
• 40:17
Speaker 17: I've worked from home. Everybody listening has probably worked from home,
• 40:20
Speaker 17: and especially during COVID, there were two people that worked
• 40:23
Speaker 17: in the entire city Hall building, Matthew Sutton and myself
• 40:25
Speaker 17: for a long period of time. You get lonely, by
• 40:28
Speaker 17: the way, y'all, when you're doing remote work you do.
• 40:31
Speaker 17: And so what the Charlestonnary Alliance did with Danny and
• 40:34
Speaker 17: his team to envision a great co working space to
• 40:38
Speaker 17: not only just log in to make some calls, to
• 40:41
Speaker 17: maybe host a meeting, but also to connect with other folks,
• 40:44
Speaker 17: because if I picked you up and dropped you into
• 40:46
Speaker 17: a different city, you'd want to have that. Aaron Noon,
• 40:49
Speaker 17: who is also here with us in the Charles from
• 40:51
Speaker 17: the Charlesonary Allions. She's not on no a microphone, She's
• 40:54
Speaker 17: standing in the corner. They do an up next Charlie
• 40:57
Speaker 17: West Boy, that's a great entrance way point for some
• 41:00
Speaker 17: of these ascenders who are coming in. How do I
• 41:02
Speaker 17: get connected with what's happening or just you know, meet
• 41:06
Speaker 17: somebody to go to the gym with, or somebody who
• 41:08
Speaker 17: may have a different interest. It is about a job,
• 41:11
Speaker 17: but it is about creating a life and finding loves
• 41:15
Speaker 17: in the Mountain State. That is the key and the
• 41:18
Speaker 17: secret sauce to the Ascend program that Brad and Elie
• 41:21
  Speaker 17: Smith started.
• 41:22
Speaker 4: And again this is the fifth one in West Virginia.
• 41:24
Speaker 4: They're in the New River Gorge area, Eastern Panhandle. Six

• 44:08
Speaker 4: was made that we were no longer going to do that.
• 44:11
Speaker 4: I will try to get an answer for you. Dave Alan,
• 44:13
Speaker 4: Morning Show in a Nutshell says a text. A text
• 44:15
Speaker 4: comes in about the president alluding to gun control, an
• 44:18
Speaker 4: important multi layered subject concerning a popular political issue among
• 44:21
Speaker 4: the listeners. Dave Allen, Eh, we'll get to that a
• 44:24
Speaker 4: later date, threats of constitutional violation for the president, no
• 44:26
Speaker 4: big deals a text. Appreciate the text. Texas Republicans hate
• 44:30
Speaker 4: public schools because they need to be stupid, so they
• 44:34
Speaker 4: vote Republican. Why else would a person vote against their
• 44:36
Speaker 4: interest in favor of the interest of the upper class
• 44:40
Speaker 4: Texas man, you know what would be cool if there
• 44:42
Speaker 4: were a program to help teachers and service personnel become homeowners.
• 44:45
Speaker 4: Teacher and service personnel owning homes and the communities they
• 44:48
Speaker 4: served question mark. I guess we'll have to settle for
• 44:50
Speaker 4: tourist tech workers getting the help. Danny Jones is here, hey,
• 44:55
  Speaker 4: doing man.
• 44:56
Speaker 11: Of listening to the show, and one phrase caught me.
• 45:01
Speaker 11: The best of the best? Who decides it goes?
• 45:05
Speaker 4: And that's the question I should have asked Mara when
• 45:08
Speaker 4: she was here. There was a board that that pixies.
• 45:11
Speaker 4: Now how that board has picked I don't know. I'll
• 45:12
Speaker 4: have Mara on the show or the mayor at some
• 45:14
Speaker 4: point and we'll we'll decide that.
• 45:16
  Speaker 11: I mean, I have lot, I have a lot of
• 45:18
Speaker 11: friends in southern California.
• 45:19
Speaker 4: We'll get him here.
• 45:20
Speaker 11: Well, I's a lawyer. What if he wanted to move here?
• 45:24
Speaker 11: He doesn't need an office or what would he be
• 45:27
Speaker 11: able to have an office up there?
• 45:29
Speaker 4: Yeah, if he wants one. Yeah. I mean this is
• 45:32
Speaker 4: all Brad and Elise Smith. I mean that they put
• 45:34
Speaker 4: twenty five million dollars into this day. This is their baby,
• 45:36
Speaker 4: this is this is not something that these communities did,
• 45:39
Speaker 4: They're part of it. But this was Brad and the
• 45:41
Speaker 4: least said we want people to come to West Virginia.
• 45:43
Speaker 4: Here's twenty five million to make it happen.
• 45:46
  Speaker 11: It's it's hard, it's hard to do. It's I mean,
• 45:53
Speaker 11: I hope it works.
• 45:54
Speaker 4: That's what's worked everywhere else so far.
• 45:56
  Speaker 11: I'm in. I'm all in.
• 45:58
Speaker 4: Texas sixty five. It's an interest to move here, question mark. Sorry,
• 46:02
Speaker 4: but that raises a little red flag to me, especially
• 46:04
Speaker 4: if a lot are for progressive states like California, Illinois,
• 46:08
Speaker 4: or New York. A Sudy done before the twenty twenty
• 46:10
Speaker 4: election showed how people moved to change the political demographics
• 46:13
Speaker 4: from red to purple or blue. News flash, don't think
• 46:16
Speaker 4: about moving here to conservative West Virginia and vote progressive
• 46:19
Speaker 4: like you did when you're moving from what ruined your state.
• 46:23
Speaker 4: Just one let me finish, Just know that West Virginians
• 46:25
Speaker 4: will not put up with that, all right, Danny, go.
• 46:27
Speaker 11: It's not going to be an issue. If somebody left
• 46:30
Speaker 11: Illinois to come in here, to move here, it'd be
• 46:33
Speaker 11: to get away from the pension system which is so underwater.
• 46:38
Speaker 11: This governor out there wants to run for president. You
• 46:41
Speaker 11: ought to see how bad the finances are, not just
• 46:44
Speaker 11: in Chicago, but in the entire state of Illinois. It's
• 46:47
Speaker 11: the worst in the country.
• 46:49
Speaker 4: What do you make of now, the president rather the
• 46:52
Speaker 4: meme that went out over the weekend referencing apocalypse now
• 46:55
Speaker 4: when he says, you're because he wants to change the
• 46:58
Speaker 4: Department of Defense to the Department of War, which is
• 47:00
Speaker 4: what it was you know previously, I mean like a
• 47:02
Speaker 4: long time ago Stintson. Uh yeah. So, so he says,
• 47:06
Speaker 4: and I'm paraphrasing, Chicago is about to find out why
• 47:11
Speaker 4: we are calling it the Department of War.
• 47:15
Speaker 11: Oh, I just think he's being silly.
• 47:18
Speaker 4: Do you think you think that's it? It's not nothing
• 47:20
Speaker 4: to be alarmed about, in my opinion. No. Somebody on
• 47:23
Speaker 4: one of the Sunday morning talk shows pointed this out. Danny,
• 47:26
Speaker 4: what if just say it? Give you for instance, So basically,
• 47:31
Speaker 4: President Trump has said, uh, we're willing to go to
• 47:33
Speaker 4: war uh for Chicago. And I'm very much paraphrasing. Okay,
• 47:37
Speaker 4: what if President Obama would have said, we've got to
• 47:43
Speaker 4: clean up pick a city, Nashville, and I am going
• 47:46
Speaker 4: to send federal troops into Memphis or into Nashville. Can
• 47:50
Speaker 4: you imagine what the what the response would have been
• 47:53
Speaker 4: had President Obama said, I am going to send in
• 47:56
  Speaker 4: federal troops.
• 48:00
Speaker 11: Of Chicago is called Inglewood, and that's where the problem is.
• 48:04
Speaker 11: And you don't need troops, you need more police officers.
• 48:07
Speaker 11: So if they wanted, if President Trump wanted to help,
• 48:10
Speaker 11: he could send more. He could ask congres for a
• 48:14
Speaker 11: supplement to hire more police to help in the area
• 48:22
Speaker 11: called Inglewood, because that's where the problem is. Where I
• 48:25
Speaker 11: go in Chicago, near the near the train station, walking
• 48:28
Speaker 11: around up on State Street. There's no problem in Chicago.
• 48:31
Speaker 4: Yeah, my wife is frequent in Chicago for her job.
• 48:34
  Speaker 4: And you know, again, it's it's it's it's just those
• 48:36
Speaker 4: certain it's certain areas.
• 48:38
  Speaker 2: Uh.
• 48:39
Speaker 4: But if and if he's got them doing in in
• 48:42
Speaker 4: Chicago what they were in d C, they're going to
• 48:45
Speaker 4: be picking up litter because that's pretty much what they've
• 48:47
  Speaker 4: done in d C. That's different, and that's not meant
• 48:50
Speaker 4: to be disrespectful to the guard by any many stretches
• 48:52
  Speaker 4: in the foination.
• 48:53
Speaker 11: But that's not what their mission is in my opinion,
• 48:57
Speaker 11: I don't think their mission of course it held. Then
• 49:01
Speaker 11: DC is a federal en.
• 49:03
Speaker 4: Clay a little bit different.
• 49:04
Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah, it is different, and it's the lady said that.
• 49:09
Speaker 11: The mayor said it helped, but they don't want ice.
• 49:12
Speaker 11: She qualified it by saying, we don't want ice. Well
• 49:15
Speaker 11: you don't. You don't get to choose. Uh.
• 49:18
Speaker 4: Tex says, was Danny aware of Trump's finances before Trump
• 49:21
Speaker 4: was elected the second time? Terrible finances haven't stopped him yet.
• 49:25
Speaker 11: I don't know anything about his finances except he made
• 49:28
Speaker 11: a lot of money on bitcoin.
• 49:30
Speaker 4: Tex says, Dave, the President of the United States is
• 49:32
Speaker 4: anything but silly, stupid, arrogant, deranged, racist, misogynistic, criminal, pathetic
• 49:37
Speaker 4: and said, but not silly.
• 49:38
  Speaker 11: He's silly.
• 49:40
  Speaker 12: Uh.
• 49:41
Speaker 4: Why does Danny go out uh go out of his
• 49:44
Speaker 4: way to excuse obvious and clear threats of unlawful and
• 49:48
Speaker 4: authoritarian action by a sex abuser.
• 49:51
Speaker 11: I don't know what to do.
• 49:53
  Speaker 4: I'm lost.
• 49:53
Speaker 11: I'm lost on that one.
• 49:55
Speaker 4: All right, so you opened up the restaurant again on Thursday.
• 49:59
  Speaker 11: House It's okay, it's it's uh, you know, it's it's hard.
• 50:04
Speaker 11: It's a barbecue stand. It's a place where people walk in,
• 50:07
Speaker 11: they walk up, and they get waited on. And I'm
• 50:10
Speaker 11: working there, but I'm not the one doing it. And
• 50:14
Speaker 11: I worked there all morning this morning, and today we
• 50:20
Speaker 11: were going to move from chicken and potato salad. So
• 50:22
Speaker 11: we've got this. The half chicken is usually eleven ninety five.
• 50:27
Speaker 11: We're going to sell it for six ninety five. You
• 50:29
Speaker 11: get half chicken and a potato salad and another side
• 50:34
Speaker 11: dish if you want to.
• 50:35
Speaker 4: All right, what's your favorite of your side dishes? I
• 50:37
Speaker 4: know it's like picking your favorite kid, but what's your
• 50:40
Speaker 4: what's your favorite side dish?
• 50:41
  Speaker 11: Baked beans?
• 50:42
Speaker 4: Baked beans? Side See, I'm a big I like it all.
• 50:44
Speaker 4: But I'm a big fan of your potato salad. I
• 50:46
  Speaker 4: love the smokeing.
• 50:47
Speaker 11: I just made a whole bunch of it good. I
• 50:49
Speaker 11: just made it. I went over there this morning and
• 50:51
Speaker 11: made up. I cooked the potatoes yesterday, cook forty potatoes,
• 50:56
Speaker 11: put them in the refrigerator, skin them, diced them, and
• 51:01
Speaker 11: then made and they were smoked, but they were cold,
• 51:05
Speaker 11: So you can't you can't make mashed potato.
• 51:09
Speaker 4: Salads, right, Yeah, I got it.
• 51:11
  Speaker 17: Uh.
• 51:11
Speaker 4: We had a text to the show on I guess
• 51:14
Speaker 4: it would have been on Friday that somebody went in
• 51:16
Speaker 4: on Thursday. Actually it was Thursday to the network show
• 51:19
Speaker 4: that they had gone in Thursday and got the ribs
• 51:22
Speaker 4: or something. Somebody sent me a picture on the tax line.
• 51:24
Speaker 4: Here looked as good as always.
• 51:26
  Speaker 20: I know.
• 51:26
Speaker 4: I mentioned earlier that my I picked up some of
• 51:29
Speaker 4: the barbecue and some side dishes and took it home.
• 51:31
Speaker 4: Even threw in a couple of salads for me Friday night.
• 51:35
  Speaker 4: We're great stuff.
• 51:36
Speaker 11: We're getting out of the salad, that's what.
• 51:37
Speaker 4: Well, you told me that before. But then so that's.
• 51:40
Speaker 11: Where you get it. We can't move salads. We can't
• 51:43
Speaker 11: move them, so we just took them off.
• 51:44
Speaker 4: The So you just wanted me to take them, basically,
• 51:46
Speaker 4: is what you're saying you want. That's kind of what.
• 51:50
Speaker 11: We didn't really care what took them.
• 51:52
Speaker 4: Just even next sucker that comes in gets the salads.
• 51:55
Speaker 4: All right, So you got to give me the chicken
• 51:57
  Speaker 4: special again.
• 51:57
Speaker 11: Today it's half a chicken and potato sow and then
• 52:02
Speaker 11: you get another. You give me the Cole Slower baked beans.
• 52:04
