- 0:53Speaker 2: milestone early in the game that showed plenty of promise.
- 0:56Speaker 2: We'll hear from Berkeley Catton, We'll hear from head Coach
- 0:59Speaker 2: Lane Lambert. We'll check in as well with the radio
- 1:01Speaker 2: voice of the Capitols, our friend John Walton. Well a
- 1:05Speaker 2: three to zero to two of the Cracking off to
- 1:07Speaker 2: their best start through their first five games in franchise history,
- 1:10Speaker 2: entering game four of a six game road trip on
- 1:13Speaker 2: Monday in Philadelphia. And in case you missed it, here's
- 1:17Speaker 2: how it unfolded. But the Flyers bring this one back
- 1:19Speaker 2: out with the games till nothing nothing and a giveaway.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Now right side a shot, say May blinds a cord
- 1:24Speaker 2: off the bed by Travis connecting Vaneers takes it back
- 1:27Speaker 2: and our rims around of the right force for Catton,
- 1:29Speaker 2: ont of the line for Flurry.
- 1:30Speaker 3: His shot the traffic face score.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Shordan every set a screen front a damn lad r
- 1:38Speaker 4: with twelve forty four to go in period one. It
- 1:41Speaker 4: came off the point shot from Kale Flurry and set
- 1:44Speaker 4: up by Berkeley, Catton and the cracket.
- 1:47Speaker 2: That's well one nothing lead.
- 1:48Speaker 5: Yeah, great work by Catton picking up puck off the wall.
- 1:51Speaker 5: They're getting it back to Kale Flurry at the point.
- 1:53Speaker 5: Who got a shot on it? It was about hip
- 1:55Speaker 5: Hi Everley gets a piece of it. Won nothing Cracking
- 1:58Speaker 5: and Berkeley Catton has its first.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Point in the NHL.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Drysdale redline left, will drive it back in behind the
- 2:04Speaker 2: cracking net and the cord. We'll settle it down, gave
- 2:07Speaker 2: it away. Katory A sends one across the receealer and.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Fret they score.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Gat Away which Cossa Kraken and it was Ohwen tipp
- 2:21Speaker 4: It who finishes the job right in front of Joey
- 2:24Speaker 4: to Cord to a half open cage with ten oh
- 2:27Speaker 4: four remaining in period one and Philadelphia has come back
- 2:32Speaker 4: to tie this game one one.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Lexi Ak retrieves and gives the right back Drysdale up
- 2:37Speaker 2: the right wing tip of a chip and cheese cracking
- 2:39Speaker 2: zones that a ring.
- 2:40Speaker 4: At tempt connect Dana save is made fine Joey the cord,
- 2:43Speaker 4: Oh that was huge. That keeps it two to one
- 2:46Speaker 4: to Cord coming up with a humongous stock here in
- 2:49Speaker 4: period two, in the open Benier's left side that down
- 2:52Speaker 4: low for every turns one to the net loss in traffic,
- 2:55Speaker 4: Vanier sends one back for Newman.
- 2:56Speaker 6: He's gons Yanni Newman power play goal cracket eleven twenty
- 3:04Speaker 6: seven to go in the second period, wide open for
- 3:07Speaker 6: the right circle and powers this one right past and
- 3:11Speaker 6: lador the Crack and half cut the deficit down a
- 3:15Speaker 6: two goals.
- 3:16Speaker 2: It's a four to two game.
- 3:17Speaker 5: Well, I mentioned getting control and getting it deep in
- 3:19Speaker 5: the offensive, so this time Seattle does that. It gun's
- 3:22Speaker 5: all the way down to Eberley. He steps out and
- 3:24Speaker 5: tries to make a play in front of the net.
- 3:26Speaker 5: Matty Beeer's finds it, digs it out, feeds it over
- 3:29Speaker 5: to Newman for a one timer.
- 3:31Speaker 3: It's four to two Philadelphia.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Now I'm cider shot by tip it to Flextion in
- 3:34Speaker 1: I score.
- 3:40Speaker 4: A seeing eyes shot from the left side that somehow
- 3:45Speaker 4: lake through Joey Decord with four minutes and twenty seconds
- 3:48Speaker 4: left here and what's been a tough second period for
- 3:51Speaker 4: the Kraken to absorb in Philadelphia extends a lead.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Back to three.
- 3:57Speaker 3: It's five to two.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Well in the game, this showed plenty of promise for
- 4:00Speaker 2: the get Go and unfolded the wrong way for the
- 4:02Speaker 2: Krack and in period two as low percentage plays and
- 4:05Speaker 2: low percentage shots victimized them in a five to two
- 4:08Speaker 2: loss to Philadelphia. A short night for Joey to Cord,
- 4:12Speaker 2: ending after period two giving up five goals on twenty
- 4:15Speaker 2: one shots, Philip Grubauer relieving him, turning in six saves
- 4:19Speaker 2: on six shots, which now leads to the question who
- 4:22Speaker 2: starts this evening in Washington between perhaps Philip Grubauer and
- 4:26Speaker 2: Matt Murray with Joey to Cord going the ninth before
- 4:29Speaker 2: We'll wait and see as a crack and try to
- 4:31Speaker 2: bounce back now for the first time after a regulation
- 4:34Speaker 2: loss under new head coach Lane Lambert, but also coming
- 4:37Speaker 2: off a promising debut for one of their prize youngsters
- 4:40Speaker 2: in Berkeley Catton, who picked up his first career NHL
- 4:44Speaker 2: point in just his second shift in the NHL. Here's
- 4:48Speaker 2: a reaction from Berkeley Catton after the game in Philadelphia.
- 4:51Speaker 7: How do you feel you did in that?
- 4:53Speaker 8: We were Yeah, I think I think I had my
- 4:56Speaker 8: moments for sure, and I think we had a good
- 4:59Speaker 8: first there. I don't know, a little off a little
- 5:02Speaker 8: bit there, but uh, you know, it's it's fast, it's heavy.
- 5:04Speaker 8: So learned a lot that game, and you know, just
- 5:07Speaker 8: gonna continue to try and build.
- 5:08Speaker 7: What was it like just trying to get yourself come
- 5:11Speaker 7: and and then what was the whole experience.
- 5:13Speaker 8: Like, Yeah, Yeah, it's it's a lot for sure. It's
- 5:16Speaker 8: kind of nice honestly, just to get that even the
- 5:18Speaker 8: lap out of the way and just everyone kind of
- 5:21Speaker 8: forgets about it. I just go play. So you know,
- 5:24Speaker 8: it was a really exciting night and you know, happy
- 5:26Speaker 8: in my families year got to share with them, so
- 5:27Speaker 8: really special night.
- 5:28Speaker 7: And then you get the secondary as system on the
- 5:31Speaker 7: first goal. I mean, did did register with you right
- 5:33Speaker 7: away that you had a point?
- 5:34Speaker 8: Did you figure out?
- 5:35Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 5:35Speaker 3: I did at all?
- 5:36Speaker 8: That was you know, that's I think my first touch
- 5:39Speaker 8: of the game wasn't the sists, so that was pretty cool.
- 5:42Speaker 8: But yeah, I think it did end up going off
- 5:44Speaker 8: abs right, So, you know, secondary assist and the second
- 5:47Speaker 8: shift is pretty cool.
- 5:49Speaker 7: And so as the game went along, I mean, what
- 5:51Speaker 7: were you feeling out there as far as just the
- 5:53Speaker 7: cohesion and the ability to make plays?
- 5:56Speaker 3: What it would it? What it looked like the game
- 5:58Speaker 3: kind of slowed down. H Yeah.
- 6:01Speaker 8: Uh, you know, I think they're a really good defensive
- 6:03Speaker 8: team too. And there wasn't a whole lot the whole game,
- 6:05Speaker 8: but you know, maybe the odd chance here and there,
- 6:08Speaker 8: and you know, obviously playing with with Maddie and Ebbs,
- 6:10Speaker 8: it was they create lots and I just kind of
- 6:13Speaker 8: have to get to the right spot sometimes and they
- 6:14Speaker 8: make the play so really special and you know.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Cool night, So good for the Cracking to get catt
- 6:19Speaker 2: and on the board, but they're still trying to pick
- 6:21Speaker 2: up the pieces in the game where they were outshot
- 6:23Speaker 2: twenty seven to twenty two and giving up two goals
- 6:27Speaker 2: to Owen Tippet in the process, Philadelphia scoring four unanswered
- 6:32Speaker 2: on their side. Before we get to John Walton, here's
- 6:34Speaker 2: the reaction from Cracken head coach Lane Lambert.
- 6:37Speaker 9: Not sharp, We were not sharp. You're not wrong. Wasn't
- 6:43Speaker 9: wasn't our best effort, that's for sure, and we have
- 6:46Speaker 9: to be better.
- 6:47Speaker 7: How much does missing, you know, so many guys from
- 6:50Speaker 7: the lineup, how much does that start to impact kind
- 6:54Speaker 7: of the.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Systems play well?
- 6:55Speaker 9: I mean, as you go along here, you know you've
- 6:57Speaker 9: got you've got guys out, you know, but it's it,
- 7:03Speaker 9: that is what it is. So you know, we those
- 7:08Speaker 9: guys being out didn't didn't stop us from you know,
- 7:13Speaker 9: winning battles or winning face offs. We just didn't do it.
- 7:16Speaker 9: So really there's no excuse we weren't good enough.
- 7:21Speaker 7: Were the penalties are concerned to.
- 7:23Speaker 8: You at all?
- 7:24Speaker 9: Where the penalties are concerned. No, you know, you know
- 7:30Speaker 9: we we need we need some kills. You know, we
- 7:34Speaker 9: had a couple of short hand of chances. We had
- 7:36Speaker 9: a breakaway to make it two one. We had a
- 7:38Speaker 9: two on one as well, and you know we didn't
- 7:40Speaker 9: capitalize on those and they came back and scored. So
- 7:44Speaker 9: you know, they didn't get much, to be honest with you,
- 7:46Speaker 9: on their power play, but they capitalized on it.
- 7:51Speaker 7: Berkeley cat and making his debut, did what did you
- 7:53Speaker 7: end up seeing out of him?
- 7:55Speaker 9: You thought it made a really good play on the
- 7:57Speaker 9: first goal. It was nice for him to get you know,
- 7:59Speaker 9: did first NHL point and you know we made a
- 8:04Speaker 9: really good playoff face off to hitting the scene. You know,
- 8:08Speaker 9: it's like you say, it's his first game, get his
- 8:11Speaker 9: feet wet. I'm sure it was a learning experience for him.
- 8:15Speaker 10: What needs to be clean up for Washington tomorrow.
- 8:17Speaker 9: Our battle level, we we just can't lose the battles.
- 8:21Speaker 9: We lost just too many of them. We played slower
- 8:26Speaker 9: today for whatever reason. You know, we have to get
- 8:30Speaker 9: more consistent in our thought process that way. But we've
- 8:32Speaker 9: got to be faster and we've got to be more
- 8:34Speaker 9: committed to winning battles and and I just didn't think
- 8:38Speaker 9: I just didn't think we won enough battles. Were we trying? Sure,
- 8:42Speaker 9: but there's a difference between trying and winning them. You know,
- 8:46Speaker 9: the lost battles end up in penalties against, turnovers, chances against.
- 8:50Speaker 9: So we have to be a lot better. In your experience,
- 8:54Speaker 9: does it Is it a good thing that you have
- 8:55Speaker 9: a game to come back tomorrow night that you know,
- 8:57Speaker 9: the guys have to flourishes and know to have better
- 9:00Speaker 9: at have time to sit and think about it or
- 9:02Speaker 9: worry about it.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Think he's got to get out and be better.
- 9:04Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, it's regardless of whether it's tomorrow night
- 9:07Speaker 9: or the next night. You know, I think that certainly
- 9:12Speaker 9: it's an opportunity for us to rebound and be better.
- 9:17Speaker 10: Ryan land Green has left the last two games a
- 9:19Speaker 10: little bit beat up.
- 9:20Speaker 2: How valuable is the role.
- 9:21Speaker 9: That he plays for this team? Yeah, no, he's you know,
- 9:25Speaker 9: I mean the last game he left is because he
- 9:28Speaker 9: blocked a critical shot at a critical time that you know,
- 9:32Speaker 9: flew up into his face tonight. He was sticking up
- 9:36Speaker 9: for his teammate. He's a warrior and he's a great.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Teammate joining us now are a team friend, John Walton,
- 9:43Speaker 2: veteran play by play announcer on the Capitol's radio network,
- 9:46Speaker 2: also his flagship station one O six seventh the Fan
- 9:49Speaker 2: w JFK. John, Great to have you. And now that
- 9:53Speaker 2: Alex Olvechkin has to pass Wayne Gretzky's all time goal
- 9:56Speaker 2: scoring record, what's consuming everyone's mind now round this team
- 10:00Speaker 2: for this season?
- 10:02Speaker 3: Nothing? We're just going home.
- 10:03Speaker 11: That's it. I you know, it's wild. I mean we
- 10:08Speaker 11: had a you know, with where we were as far
- 10:11Speaker 11: as the.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Last season.
- 10:14Speaker 11: I mean we got to about March and there was
- 10:17Speaker 11: a time, I mean going back to the beginning, guys,
- 10:19Speaker 11: where we had in November, We're in Salt Lake and
- 10:23Speaker 11: Alex has two goals third period, Caps are winning handily.
- 10:27Speaker 11: Everything's good, and then Alex breaks his leg and we
- 10:31Speaker 11: stayed over in Salt Lake and it was just we
- 10:33Speaker 11: went out after the game and get something to eat
- 10:36Speaker 11: and we're just sitting there looking at each other like
- 10:37Speaker 11: we don't know how to do this, Like we never
- 10:39Speaker 11: seen this, None of us have ever seen this for
- 10:42Speaker 11: a long term. At that point, we didn't really know
- 10:43Speaker 11: what the injury was and watching him come back and
- 10:46Speaker 11: do what he did, only out for six weeks, come
- 10:49Speaker 11: back at the record and mold it down at the end,
- 10:52Speaker 11: like he did not leave any room for maybe this
- 10:55Speaker 11: happens this year or maybe it doesn't. A couple of
- 10:58Speaker 11: goals against Chicago and could at four, and then getting
- 11:01Speaker 11: it against the Islanders in the way he did tacked
- 11:03Speaker 11: on a couple for good measure to get eight ninety
- 11:05Speaker 11: seven at the end. There was definitely an emotional lift
- 11:08Speaker 11: that surrounded this team that you know. It's funny because
- 11:11Speaker 11: sometimes you'll get asked the questions, oh, is it a distraction?
- 11:14Speaker 3: Well, no, it's not.
- 11:15Speaker 11: I mean it's actually the opposite of that. But to
- 11:18Speaker 11: that end, now that you're here, what do you do
- 11:21Speaker 11: for an encore when you don't have this unbelievable historic
- 11:25Speaker 11: achievement That was kind of this symbiotic relationship between the
- 11:29Speaker 11: Caps going to one hundred and eleven points and Alex
- 11:31Speaker 11: getting the record. And I think we've seen at least
- 11:34Speaker 11: early on that you know, this team is still as advertised,
- 11:38Speaker 11: they're running it back with twenty of the twenty three
- 11:40Speaker 11: guys that were here last year.
- 11:41Speaker 3: I don't feel and.
- 11:42Speaker 11: I'm saying this more as a representative of what I've
- 11:46Speaker 11: heard in the room from Logan Thompson has been vocal
- 11:48Speaker 11: and Spencer Carberry has mentioned it. You know that a
- 11:51Speaker 11: lot of people think, oh, well, you know, the CAP's
- 11:52Speaker 11: over achieved. They're really not that interesting anymore. You know,
- 11:56Speaker 11: if you don't have the record, what's going on. This
- 11:59Speaker 11: team is still good. I ultimately think they've got to
- 12:02Speaker 11: find a way to get through Carolina. They did not
- 12:04Speaker 11: do that in the second round last year. They will
- 12:06Speaker 11: ultimately if they want to put together a deep run,
- 12:08Speaker 11: they got to get by Carolina because it's the way
- 12:10Speaker 11: the playoffs are set up. So there are still a
- 12:13Speaker 11: work in progress. But they are strong.
- 12:16Speaker 3: One to twelve up front, one to six on d
- 12:18Speaker 3: and one and two in the net.
- 12:19Speaker 11: There are no holes here. This is one of the
- 12:20Speaker 11: best defensive teams in the NHL. They don't give up
- 12:23Speaker 11: much at five on five. They're tough to beat, and
- 12:26Speaker 11: they have come out of the blocks not scoring a ton,
- 12:29Speaker 11: but they are scoring enough and you know, been all
- 12:33Speaker 11: right on the road. They've got this cushion of home
- 12:35Speaker 11: games involving the crack in this week where you know,
- 12:39Speaker 11: in the middle of five or six at home and
- 12:42Speaker 11: then things start to get a little more serious. But
- 12:44Speaker 11: they're you know, they're holding their own and I think
- 12:47Speaker 11: everybody believes in this room that they are not only
- 12:50Speaker 11: a playoff team, but a team that has a deep
- 12:52Speaker 11: run in them. But they still have to get to
- 12:56Speaker 11: I think that next level in order to do that.
- 13:00Speaker 10: Yeah, I want to go back to ov for a second.
- 13:02Speaker 10: Take us back to that run. I mean, the city,
- 13:06Speaker 10: the fan base for you personally. I mean I can
- 13:10Speaker 10: only imagine in Seattle you go back to the home
- 13:13Speaker 10: run race of what was that ninety eight Maguire and
- 13:16Speaker 10: Sosa and I think Griffy was in it for for
- 13:18Speaker 10: a while. But just give folks in Seattle an idea
- 13:24Speaker 10: of just what that was like.
- 13:26Speaker 3: And then for you.
- 13:27Speaker 10: Personally to have that moment on your reel, on on
- 13:32Speaker 10: your resume of now being able to to tell your grandkids,
- 13:37Speaker 10: to have your kids tell their grandkids. Man, you know
- 13:40Speaker 10: Grandpa John was there when What was that like for
- 13:44Speaker 10: all parties involved?
- 13:46Speaker 11: Yeah, put Grandpa to bed and change his nipe for it. Yeah,
- 13:50Speaker 11: for sure. I'm older than you guys, so I can
- 13:52Speaker 11: say that you know, it was wild.
- 13:55Speaker 3: It was just this, It was about March.
- 13:59Speaker 11: I mean most of my time, this is fifteen seasons
- 14:01Speaker 11: here now, and there really had. There wasn't much of
- 14:05Speaker 11: a time where you know, I was here. You know,
- 14:08Speaker 11: he was in the threes when I got here, so
- 14:10Speaker 11: I didn't get them all, but I've had the majority
- 14:12Speaker 11: of him. And you know, four hundred becomes five hundred,
- 14:16Speaker 11: becomes six hundred, and there's always this talk could he
- 14:18Speaker 11: do it?
- 14:18Speaker 3: Could he do it?
- 14:20Speaker 11: And sometimes the answer would be oh yeah, and then
- 14:22Speaker 11: other times it would be oh, absolutely not, And it
- 14:24Speaker 11: just depended on which talking head and what national person
- 14:27Speaker 11: was saying it. And you know, then about the time
- 14:30Speaker 11: he got the seven hundred New Jersey a few years ago,
- 14:33Speaker 11: you're like, listen, like this is one hundred ninety out now,
- 14:36Speaker 11: like this is starting to feel like it could happen.
- 14:38Speaker 11: And the production through the course of these last couple
- 14:42Speaker 11: of years to you know, be approaching fifty goals at
- 14:46Speaker 11: the age he's at where Gretzki in the same timeframe
- 14:49Speaker 11: was getting, you know fifteen, this just doesn't happen. And
- 14:53Speaker 11: he just kept throwing him in the net. And the
- 14:56Speaker 11: way he started last year, it wasn't a matter of
- 14:59Speaker 11: is going to happen, and it's like it felt like
- 15:00Speaker 11: it was going to happen by Christmas, because he was
- 15:02Speaker 11: leading the league there at the time he got hurt,
- 15:05Speaker 11: was right at the top.
- 15:07Speaker 3: But it's been this all consuming kind of thing.
- 15:10Speaker 11: It almost feels like, you know when you're anticipating Christmas
- 15:13Speaker 11: or something and you're you're whether it's family or or
- 15:17Speaker 11: president you're hoping for as a kid, and then there's
- 15:19Speaker 11: almost this remorse like, well, well what do we do now?
- 15:22Speaker 3: Like it's all I've known, like the whole time I've
- 15:24Speaker 3: been here.
- 15:25Speaker 11: But it was amazing, and I think really from March
- 15:28Speaker 11: we were in California and you could see that he
- 15:32Speaker 11: was starting to heat up, and you really felt like, Okay,
- 15:35Speaker 11: I think it's going to happen.
- 15:36Speaker 3: There were little lulls here and there, but you know,
- 15:38Speaker 3: when it.
- 15:39Speaker 11: Really became apparent, you know, he tied the record at home,
- 15:42Speaker 11: and it would have been amazing because he was this
- 15:44Speaker 11: close against Chicago to getting a hat trick and maybe
- 15:47Speaker 11: even four and doing it in front of the home fans.
- 15:49Speaker 3: It would have been nice.
- 15:51Speaker 11: Yeah, but you know, ultimately for those who love the
- 15:54Speaker 11: game like we all do, to be just in the building.
- 15:58Speaker 11: Funny enough, I'm Matthew Darish has been a friend for
- 16:01Speaker 11: a long time.
- 16:01Speaker 3: He was.
- 16:01Speaker 11: He played in Hershey when I was there, and now.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Is the gem of the Islanders.
- 16:06Speaker 11: Funny enough, he was there that day with Tampa Bay. Yeah,
- 16:10Speaker 11: because the entire staff had come out. They were playing
- 16:12Speaker 11: the Rangers, and they all made the trip because hey, listen, like, guys,
- 16:15Speaker 11: we got to go see this. I mean we're here practically.
- 16:18Speaker 11: Uh So all the you know, John Cooper was there
- 16:21Speaker 11: and all, and Julian Breesebaugh and all the Tampa Bay guys,
- 16:24Speaker 11: and he just had this moment and you felt like
- 16:27Speaker 11: it was going to happen, but you know, it's a
- 16:29Speaker 11: day game, and you know, just kind of getting into it,
- 16:31Speaker 11: and then the second period of powerplay comes and I
- 16:33Speaker 11: just remember, like my heart was in my throat. I
- 16:35Speaker 11: was like, this could be it, like right here, Like
- 16:38Speaker 11: I remember watching on ESPN when Gary Thorn and Bill
- 16:40Speaker 11: Clement called it when Gretzky passed Gordy and I was
- 16:44Speaker 11: in college and I never could have imagined.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Being in that moment or being.
- 16:50Speaker 11: One of the guys that got to call the next one.
- 16:54Speaker 11: And honestly, I don't know if this is ever getting
- 16:56Speaker 11: brought not in my lifetime. I'm never going to see it,
- 16:58Speaker 11: but uh, you know, I just I don't know that
- 17:01Speaker 11: it's going to happen again, but man to be there
- 17:04Speaker 11: and just it was so perfect, Like whether you're you're
- 17:07Speaker 11: Joe b or your me Joe Benanadi r TV guy here,
- 17:10Speaker 11: the only thing you hoped for with all these milestones
- 17:12Speaker 11: that have happened, you know, whether rolling over the odometer
- 17:14Speaker 11: six hundred, seven hundred, eight hundred, it was pleased.
- 17:18Speaker 3: For the love of God, let it be clean.
- 17:19Speaker 12: Yeah, no deflections, nothing, it's I mean, six hundred was
- 17:26Speaker 12: put the fear of God in me because we were
- 17:28Speaker 12: playing Winnipeg and Hallibuck was in net and it was
- 17:30Speaker 12: a scramble in front and he goes to it and
- 17:33Speaker 12: there's just that moment it hesitations.
- 17:35Speaker 11: I'm pretty sure he got it. I think so, and
- 17:38Speaker 11: you're just, oh my god, Devin.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Hundred was was clean, but it was quick.
- 17:42Speaker 11: It was a third period of a game where the
- 17:44Speaker 11: capture losing in New Jersey. It was a day game,
- 17:45Speaker 11: and it just all of a sudden he hadn't scored
- 17:47Speaker 11: in eight games. Yeah, and all of a sudden it's
- 17:48Speaker 11: there and boom, like everyone has been kind of different.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Eight ninety five was beautiful.
- 17:54Speaker 11: It was exactly if you could have drawn it up,
- 17:57Speaker 11: if you could have said, I want a cross ice
- 18:00Speaker 11: from I don't care who it is, winding up Vintage
- 18:03Speaker 11: in the office, no doubt or blow them away.
- 18:07Speaker 3: It was perfect.
- 18:08Speaker 11: And when you're on the call and you're just saying,
- 18:11Speaker 11: it's like you see it. If they said, if this
- 18:13Speaker 11: goes in, I'm gonna be okay with that, and it was.
- 18:18Speaker 11: And you know, I was happy with mine. I know
- 18:20Speaker 11: Joe's happy with his, and we're all just like you
- 18:22Speaker 11: just try to give the magnitude of the moment what
- 18:25Speaker 11: it deserves and hope that it resonates. And that's all
- 18:28Speaker 11: we can do, right, I mean, you know, you know
- 18:30Speaker 11: how it is. I mean, it's just for everything that happens.
- 18:32Speaker 11: I mean, you just want to give credence to the
- 18:34Speaker 11: moment and then in my mind, just get out of
- 18:36Speaker 11: the way and just you know, let you know, the
- 18:39Speaker 11: speeches and Gretzky and Ov and the game stops and
- 18:41Speaker 11: all of the wonderfulness it was happening had nothing to
- 18:43Speaker 11: do with us. But being able to watch that, I'll
- 18:46Speaker 11: never forget it.
- 18:47Speaker 3: It was wonderful.
- 18:48Speaker 11: My son was there, just to be able to have
- 18:51Speaker 11: that moment happen. It didn't matter where, it didn't matter
- 18:56Speaker 11: who the goalie was, it didn't matter who the other
- 18:58Speaker 11: team was. It was just this great celebration of our
- 19:00Speaker 11: great game, and I'm so glad I got to be
- 19:01Speaker 11: a small part of it.
- 19:02Speaker 10: A lot of folks in Pittsburgh will tell you that
- 19:04Speaker 10: when the Penguins won all those Cups, they've never done
- 19:07Speaker 10: it on home ice, and a number of fans are like, man,
- 19:10Speaker 10: the Pens couldn't have given me one cup on home ice.
- 19:14Speaker 10: Obviously the record was great. It was a day game
- 19:17Speaker 10: on Long Island. I mean, the moment is already a ten,
- 19:22Speaker 10: But is it like a nine point seven because it
- 19:25Speaker 10: wasn't in DC or.
- 19:27Speaker 3: It doesn't matter.
- 19:28Speaker 10: The moment happened and it's now going to be etched
- 19:31Speaker 10: in history.
- 19:32Speaker 11: I am tremendously fortunate that between when I was in
- 19:36Speaker 11: Hershey and we won three Cups there and then I
- 19:40Speaker 11: got to be part of one here that winning at
- 19:43Speaker 11: home is special. I got to do that once with Hershey,
- 19:46Speaker 11: the other two were on the road, and then we
- 19:47Speaker 11: were in Vegas for this one here. It is there
- 19:50Speaker 11: is something special about and this was exactly the same
- 19:54Speaker 11: because you know, Nick Baxtrom came back, and tj Oshi
- 19:56Speaker 11: came back, and you know, there are all these guys
- 19:58Speaker 11: in the room and Tom Wilson is you know, we
- 20:01Speaker 11: the best. My favorite interview with Tommy ever and I've
- 20:03Speaker 11: had a bunch of them. Yeah, just you know, so appreciative,
- 20:06Speaker 11: Like and he and Dylan Strom. You couldn't have picked
- 20:08Speaker 11: two guys that would love to who can appreciate the moment.
- 20:11Speaker 11: Willie who's been here for you, Willie's going to be
- 20:14Speaker 11: a captain here when over retires, and being able to
- 20:17Speaker 11: kind of almost felt like a bit of a torch passing.
- 20:19Speaker 11: And Dylan Strom, who's you know, a stats guy and
- 20:22Speaker 11: loves the game so much.
- 20:23Speaker 3: I mean they appreciated it.
- 20:25Speaker 11: Having that moment on the road is okay because selfishly,
- 20:30Speaker 11: you know, you're you're on that bus together going to
- 20:33Speaker 11: the plane and like, I mean, if you're gonna win
- 20:35Speaker 11: a cup and you're not going to do it at
- 20:36Speaker 11: home friends, by the way, do it in Vegas.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Yes, that that wasn't terrible.
- 20:43Speaker 11: But to have that moment with your teammates and your
- 20:46Speaker 11: your workmates, uh and your you know, our pr staff
- 20:51Speaker 11: and our our broadcast staff and all of that.
- 20:53Speaker 3: There is something special to it.
- 20:55Speaker 11: To your point, though, could it would it have been
- 20:58Speaker 11: great to do it at home for the Cup? Yes,
- 21:00Speaker 11: would have been great do at home. Yes, But there's
- 21:03Speaker 11: actually I think two such to it. I would have
- 21:05Speaker 11: loved to have seen him do it at home because
- 21:06Speaker 11: I think they would have burned the building down. It
- 21:07Speaker 11: would have been unbelievable. But it would also you know,
- 21:12Speaker 11: it is nice from a selfish perspective. It's just this
- 21:14Speaker 11: moment that felt, hey, like this happened and we were
- 21:17Speaker 11: all here for it, and it's just this very almost
- 21:19Speaker 11: an intimate level of hey, we got to do this
- 21:22Speaker 11: really cool thing and it was just the fifty five
- 21:26Speaker 11: sixty people that were on the plane.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Both are good. I was just glad that you got
- 21:31Speaker 3: to be a part of it.
