  Speaker 1: financial markets, currencies, and economics. I've always thought that was BS,

  Speaker 1: and it's why we focus on them a lot. They're

  Speaker 1: important because they tell a story about where we have

  Speaker 1: been and more importantly, what is potentially next for us.

  Speaker 1: People aren't stupid. Most of the correspondence, the emails, the

  Speaker 1: letters that I get are from people far smarter than me,

  Speaker 1: though that is not really saying much about them, probably

  Speaker 1: more about me. This week, we're getting GDP for Q2.

  Speaker 1: It's going to show we've gone either sideways or slightly forwards.

  Speaker 1: If you listen to the Bank Economist, which is better

  Speaker 1: than backwards, which is where they were picking that we
• 0:52
  Speaker 1: would go just a few months ago, where the RBNZ
• 0:54
  Speaker 1: was picking we would go. This is Stats NZ data

  Speaker 1: and is, of course, itself backwards looking. It'll show us

  Speaker 1: where we've been. For a look at where we're going,

  Speaker 1: we had the PMI. That's the Manufacturing Index on Friday.

  Speaker 1: It was off slightly July to August, but still an expansion.

  Speaker 1: and still above the long-term average. This is a good thing.

  Speaker 1: What's more, it tells us that Ford orders are looking good,

  Speaker 1: which bodes well for Q3. As always, there is a

  Speaker 1: reason to talk about the numbers, not just the ones

  Speaker 1: that we will hear about this week, but the ones

  Speaker 1: which give us the clues about where we are heading next.
