- 0:00Speaker 1: We hope to help you get over the hump for
- 0:03some others. And we always say this Wednesday might be Monday,
- 0:07or it might be Friday, whatever it might be, We're
- 0:10glad to have you with us. Welcome to the program
- 0:11this afternoon here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
- 0:15My name is Craig Way. Glad to have you with us.
- 0:18US today has a different designation. If you were listening
- 0:24to the program yesterday, you heard the erstwhile producer of
- 0:31this radio program, Cameron Parker, detail a most unfortunate thing
- 0:37that happened to him. I believe on Monday evening he
- 0:40was lifting weights and either put too much on the
- 0:44bar and didn't have someone to spot him, or just
- 0:48did something wrong while weightlifting. As a result of that,
- 0:53it has incapacitated him. It has actually debilitated him to
- 0:59the point where and I'll tell you the story of
- 1:04just how debilitating it was for him coming up and
- 1:07inconceivable because it kind of belongs in there. But the
- 1:09bottom line isn't I'm making fun of him. I hope
- 1:11he's gonna be getting better. That the doctors are on
- 1:14my He's not here today, and hopefully he'll be able
- 1:17to return tomorrow. A reminder, I'm going to be out
- 1:21tomorrow and Friday, this being the open date week. You've
- 1:24got some personal things that I'll be taking care of,
- 1:28and Linda and I will be heading up to the
- 1:29Dallas Forward Metroplex as well for the weekend. So I'll
- 1:31be out tomorrow and Friday, but hopefully Cam will be
- 1:34back tomorrow and also Andrew Zimma will be checking in
- 1:42also with him tomorrow and Friday. In the meantime, speaking
- 1:46of firstwhile our guy behind the counter today, if you will,
- 1:51on the board, is the talented producer of the Morning Kickoff,
- 1:57which you hear each and every weekday morning mon Day
- 2:00through Friday, seven am to nine am here on Sports
- 2:04Medio AM thirteen hundred the Zone. He is the eyes
- 2:07and ears and the production value that brings you my
- 2:13cardball hard and the world's Strongest Man, Mark Henry. But
- 2:18it's Khalil Randall who's the secret sauce to the whole deal.
- 2:20It's good to have you with us going. We do
- 2:22get comfortable with that microphone there like you do with
- 2:24those guys. You don't think I was gonna waste your
- 2:26vocal talents today. While you're stepping in, did you. I
- 2:29did not think I would be speaking today. No, you're
- 2:31going to be speaking. You're going to be speaking. I'm
- 2:34glad to have you with it now. First of all,
- 2:37because I did several years of work in morning drive,
- 2:39so I know that the kind of toll that can
- 2:42take on a body. How are you feeling right now?
- 2:44You're holding up all right? I'm holding up all right.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I have some days where I just randomly pass out
- 2:49in the middle of the day, and then there are
- 2:51other days where I can just wake up about four
- 2:53and then go to sleep at you know, midnight, and
- 2:55I'm just fine and you're good to go. Today is
- 2:57one of those days.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Yeah. See, that's because you're young. He still kind of
- 3:01think it doesn't hit you like a ton of bricks.
- 3:03So that's good. I'm glad to have you. Thank you
- 3:05for stepping in today because you know it was tough
- 3:08on Cam. Hopefully he'll be able to turn things around.
- 3:11Here's what's going on that we're gonna tell you about.
- 3:14Coming up with a few minutes. We're gonna be joined
- 3:16by a gentleman who was on with you guys yesterday morning,
- 3:19Bob Ibock and He's got a pretty unique offer, does
- 3:22he not? It does.
- 3:24Speaker 2: It's actually very very interesting, very incredible, and I think
- 3:28you should definitely tune into.
- 3:30Speaker 1: The next segment if you want to find know what
- 3:31it is. Okay, all right, this is a guy I've
- 3:33known for a long time when I was here doing
- 3:35my first tour of duty with iHeart, even when it
- 3:40was called Clear Channel Radio before it was iHeart, even
- 3:43when it was something before iHeart. Clear Channel purchased it
- 3:48all the way back to the Butler broadcasting days of
- 3:51nineteen ninety seven, my first year work. In the first
- 3:54go around from ninety seven through twenty sixteen, nineteen years,
- 3:59I had this on several times because he deals in collectibles,
- 4:05and they're very unique collectibles and they're really marketed toward
- 4:11specific fan bases. I still have a basketball, one of
- 4:16the collective collective basketballs from when the Dallas Mavericks won
- 4:19the NBA title in twenty eleven. Oh wow, through Bob
- 4:22Eyeback and this group Nico Sports. So we'll hear from
- 4:27him coming because this will specifically appeal to long corn
- 4:31football fans. All right, So there's that the Wildcard series
- 4:36continue today. Houston Astros raise some eyebrows by virtue of
- 4:41their loss yesterday, as they fell yesterday to the Detroit
- 4:47Tigers in game one of that wildcards here, So they
- 4:49have to win the day or the season ends. And
- 4:51if they do win the day, there'll be one more game,
- 4:53all right now, I can tell you it's scoreless in
- 4:54the bottom of the second inning in Game two. Will
- 4:57keep you updated on that one. Also Game two, Kansas
- 5:00City and Baltimore playing at Oriel Park at Camden Yards.
- 5:04KC won Game three. Of the four teams on the
- 5:07road won yesterday. Detroit beat Astars three to one. Kansas
- 5:13City beat Baltimore. On the road won nothing. Bobby Witt
- 5:16Junior had the key hit at RBI single in the
- 5:18sixth inning, and the Royals bullpen made it stand up.
- 5:22The New York Mets, who spotted Milwaukee a couple of leads,
- 5:27had a huge seventh inning and came all over sixth
- 5:32inning and came all the way back and won the
- 5:35ball game. The brewer of the Mets beat the Brewers
- 5:37eight to four, so the Mets winning in Milwaukee. Now,
- 5:39last night business was usual. San Diego Padres, who might
- 5:42be the most dangerous team in all of Baseball shot
- 5:44out the Atlanta Breys four to nothing, so they were
- 5:46the only home team to win yesterday, so they're up
- 5:49one game to none. Game two of their series is tonight,
- 5:51so all of these game twos are being played. The
- 5:53thing about the Wildcards series is you have three games.
- 6:00It's the best of three series. If it goes three games,
- 6:03but they play all back to back to back, there's
- 6:06no travel. It's at one ballpark in this case, in
- 6:10the case of Houston, all three games. If it gets
- 6:13to three, we'll be at minu at May Park. Same
- 6:15thing in Baltimore, same thing in Milwaukee, and the same
- 6:18thing as well in San Diego. Then when you get
- 6:21to the Division series this weekend, it gets to a
- 6:24best of five where it's two games, the first two
- 6:27games at the higher seeded team, and then it could
- 6:30be as many as two games at the lower seeded team,
- 6:32and if there's a fifth, if necessary game, it'd be
- 6:35back at the higher seeded team. You have that, then
- 6:38the NLCS and the ALCS those are best of seven series,
- 6:41and then of course the World Series, which is best
- 6:43of seven. So that's how that goes. We'll keep you
- 6:46updated on that. We'll also hear from log Horn's hit
- 6:49football coach Steve sarkisha, Yes, it's a bye week. Yes,
- 6:53his only local media availability was on Monday, the press
- 6:58conference that we brought TOILL Live and of course Hardball
- 7:02Mike card jed I are down there along with Cameron
- 7:04Parker down there. Khalil is running it all back here
- 7:09and we bring you Sark's news conference every Monday morning
- 7:13at eleven thirty is part of our LONGRRNE Monday presentation.
- 7:16We begin our coverage at eleven and then the press
- 7:18conference starts at eleven thirty. And this week, because it's
- 7:21an open date on the schedule, the bye week on
- 7:23the schedule, it's the only local media availability for Sark.
- 7:28There will be no local Thursday zoom media availability like
- 7:32he normally does. However, however, Wednesday is SEC teleconference day.
- 7:38So Sark, even on a bye week, participated that we
- 7:40have some audio for that, so so we'll bring that
- 7:42to you. So we've got that all right. So those
- 7:45are the things there with that, and we'll here's some
- 7:47more from Rodney Terry, long worn men's basketball coach. We'll
- 7:51hear from him as well on what's going on with
- 7:54Texas basketball. There was a media availability yesterday. We've got
- 7:57to bring you some of the sound from that, so
- 7:58we'll do that as well. So lot to get to.
- 8:00But up next, Bob Iyback joins us and he'll visit
- 8:04with us. We'll do that when we continue here on
- 8:06Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone and where you
- 8:08always listen to us for free on the iHeartRadio app. See,
- 8:11this is a yachtwart Rock Wednesday. So we play some
- 8:13yacht rock tunes because I'm old enough to be into
- 8:17the yacht rock genre. Our next guest might be able
- 8:22to qualify for yacht rock status as well. I know this.
- 8:25He qualifies for being a great source of information on
- 8:31sports and collectibles. These are good friend by bye Back,
- 8:34who joins us from Nico Sports, joins us on the
- 8:36hotline right now. Bob, it's great to hear from you again.
- 8:39How are you.
- 8:40Speaker 3: I am doing great, Craig, It's always nice to be
- 8:42with you. We go back a long way. I guess
- 8:44we are oldies, but goldies, right.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good way. That's a good way to
- 8:50describe it. I was telling Khalil in the first segment
- 8:54of the show. I said, you and I do go
- 8:57back quite a bit. We've known each other for several years,
- 9:00and I said, I still have that collectible basketball that
- 9:05your group had when the Mavericks won the NBA title
- 9:08in twenty eleven. That white panel on one side of
- 9:10it was really cool. No, I remember that. Yep, I
- 9:13still have that as a Mavericks fan. So I should
- 9:17have gotten in touch with of course it was during
- 9:18the pandemic. I should have gotten in touch with it
- 9:20when the Dodgers won the World Series in twenty twenty,
- 9:22because I'm a to the death Dodger fan. But I
- 9:27but it's funny because I know we have a lot
- 9:30of Astra fans in this town and they're on pins
- 9:32and needles today because the Astros are down a game
- 9:35and it's scoreless right now on the top of the
- 9:36third in Game two with Detroit. But tell folks a
- 9:41little bit about how you do what you do, because
- 9:44I think it's really fascinating the way that you can
- 9:48connect with the sports fans of specific teams with these
- 9:52really unique collectibles.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Well, you know, it goes back to my years when
- 9:56I was with the Chicago Cubs in the nineteen eighties.
- 9:59I was brought to Chicago by Dallas Green, the general manager.
- 10:04I knew Dallas when I was a sports editor in Philadelphia,
- 10:07and when they won the World Series in nineteen eighty,
- 10:09he brought me in as one of his assistants and
- 10:12I got involved. I member in spring training with the
- 10:16Make a Wish Foundation and we were granting They were
- 10:20just starting off granting wishes to kids who had life
- 10:22threatening medical conditions. And got involved in fundraising with them.
- 10:27And then many many years later, after my career with
- 10:30the Cubs, I went with Kemper Sports. Ran in their
- 10:32sports division for about seven years, the Maui Invitational out
- 10:36in Hawaii and some other things. I continued to do
- 10:40a lot of charnable work, and when I ran into
- 10:43the folks at Nico Sports it was nineteen ninety six,
- 10:47I put together a program for them. They were a
- 10:51client of mine at the time, and they've raised gosh,
- 10:55just in the last six years three point two million dollars.
- 10:58Speaker 1: For a number of charities.
- 11:01Speaker 3: And what I'll be talking about today is something that's
- 11:04going to help out the neighborhood Long Oornge program because
- 11:07we've got a fascinating football for Long Orange fans, and
- 11:11you're going to want to grab piece of paper, pan
- 11:14whatever you want to joss up and down. I've got
- 11:16a phone number on a website i'll give out in
- 11:19a few moments, Craig about this amazing one hundredth anniversary
- 11:23football that salutes Daryl Kay Royal, Texas, Memorial State and
- 11:28one hundredth anniversary. It'll have a beautiful color panoramic image
- 11:32on one of the panels of the ball, which will
- 11:35keep a pristine looking for years to come because everything
- 11:38is embossed on here won't fade, and only twenty and
- 11:42twenty four of these footballs will ever be produced. It's
- 11:45going to raise money, as I mentioned for that neighborhood
- 11:48long Orange program. There are one hundred and nineteen dollars
- 11:51ninety five cents each and they are selling very quickly.
- 11:55You'll get an individually numbered certificate of authenticity and it's
- 12:00full size, it's fully licensed, and it's also got some
- 12:04really cool panels on there. I'll just kind of describe
- 12:07that before I give out that phone number. The top
- 12:10panel has got the hundredth anniversary logo, stadium History, Championship History.
- 12:16The second panel right below that salutes the SEC season,
- 12:19the very first one for the Longhorns this year. They
- 12:22got off to a good start and beat Mississippi State
- 12:24in their first SEC game this past weekend. I've got
- 12:28the Texas helmet logo there, and then we list all
- 12:30the teams in the SEC right there on the side
- 12:33of that panel. The last panel is really my This
- 12:36is the one that people are going to say, Wow,
- 12:39I got to get this football because it's got a
- 12:41full color panoramic image of Daryl K. Royal Texas Memorial
- 12:46State in there, taken on a sun drenched afternoon about
- 12:50two years ago helicopter aerial shot, and it stretches from
- 12:53the left to the right on that panel. And if
- 12:57you've never been to the stadium where you've been there
- 12:59many times times, this is something that you can showcase
- 13:02to your friends and family members and keep. Because it's
- 13:06in my sports background and covering so many games, it's
- 13:10certainly among the top five stadiums that I've visited over
- 13:14the years when I was a sports rutter and of
- 13:16course a broadcaster. If you'd like to go ahead and
- 13:19get this football, get only twenty and twenty four be made.
- 13:23We're probably bordering in on halfway sold out. I would
- 13:26not wait because you can get your Christmas shop and
- 13:29done and for gifts and for the for the holiday season.
- 13:34These will be set to you plenty of time to
- 13:35get them before Thanksgiving. The toll free number again it's
- 13:39it's one night, one hundred and nineteen dollars and ninety
- 13:41five cents will snag you one of these footballs. Toll
- 13:44free number is eight hundred three four five two eight
- 13:49six eight eight hundred three four five twenty eight sixty eight.
- 13:54Or go right to the website nicosports dot com, niksports
- 14:01dot com. That's nikcosports dot com or eight hundred three
- 14:07four five twenty eight sixty eight. I've got I'll tell
- 14:11you what we could be talking in January during the
- 14:14football playoffs because I don't see Longhorns. They got a
- 14:18couple of tough games on their schedule, but Oklahoma course
- 14:21coming up in Georgia and then that last game of
- 14:24the season with Texas A and M. I think that
- 14:26that may be the game that keeps them from either
- 14:30being unbeaten or a one loss team, because I think
- 14:34they can beat both Oklahoma and Georgia.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Yeah, it'll be interesting to see. Just for me to
- 14:39add to this, what folks are what you just described
- 14:43on the one panel. And for anybody that's been to
- 14:46a Longhorn home game this year, you've seen on the
- 14:49field that one hundredth anniversary logo that's on the field
- 14:53at the twenty yard line. That's what it is on
- 14:55one side, and the SEC logo on the other side.
- 14:58So if you're wondering about the one hundredth logo, it's
- 15:00really cool. The DKR logo there with the one hundred
- 15:04that exact logo is replicated on the football what you
- 15:09see on the fields, and then like you mentioned, on
- 15:11the other side, the panoramic shot. Just looking at the
- 15:14photo of it is just absolutely tremendous. And I remember,
- 15:18you know the years that you've done these, and you've
- 15:21done commemorative football and basketballs and baseballs for championship winning
- 15:26teams and things like that. It's always creative. This might
- 15:29be the most creative enterprise I've seen you do with
- 15:32the football. To see that panoramic photo of the ball,
- 15:36panoramic photo of the stadium on the ball.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, you know, the owner of the Nico Sports,
- 15:42Craig Midner, and he and his wife started the organization
- 15:45back in nineteen ninety two. And Craig does a great
- 15:49job in getting all the artworks together and being all
- 15:52the creative that they put a lot of background and
- 15:56foresight into making these.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I mean people who have owned.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Some these pieces of sports memorabilia, whether they be special
- 16:03baseball bats or as you mentioned, championship basketballs and footballs.
- 16:09There's a lot of the time and effort that goes
- 16:11into making these. Uh, they just don't happen. And NICO
- 16:15Sports is always very careful in making sure that everything
- 16:18is officially licensed, approved, the artwork is correct. They take
- 16:23a lot of time and effort to make these and
- 16:26people have called up years later, like you said, and
- 16:29they've had a basketball or a football that they bought
- 16:34ten years ago and it's it looks just like they
- 16:37popped it out of the case today.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Yep, yep. That's that's how mine looked from twenty to
- 16:41eleven for that Mavericks championship. And again the for folks
- 16:46who are interested in it, they can call eight hundred
- 16:50and three four five two eight six eight. That's eight
- 16:52hundred three four five two eight six eight, or go
- 16:54to nicosports dot com nik coo nco sports dot com.
- 16:58While I got you on the phone because I know
- 17:01of the many years you put in the baseball First
- 17:04of all, you'll have to forgive me if I've already
- 17:06asked you this question. Did you get to know and
- 17:09work alongside my colleague and baseball broadcast partner Keith Morland
- 17:14when you were with the gab Oh Zonk?
- 17:16Speaker 3: Yeah. I played a lot of racquetball games with Zok too,
- 17:19when we went on the caravan in the middle of
- 17:21the winter to entertain at five o'clock in the morning.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Wow.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll tell you the redhead once. Once he got
- 17:29them over going. Nobody could go from first to third
- 17:32base like Zonk because Keith was just a brilliant, hard nose,
- 17:39blue collar baseball player, and we couldn't have got it done.
- 17:43In nineteen eighty four we won the National League East.
- 17:46We had ninety six wins that year. He was a
- 17:49big part of that season. We just had our eighty
- 17:51four reunion the fortieth anniversary. Keith, I believe, was overseas.
- 17:58Speaker 1: At the time and couldn't make it, but we.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Had everybody back and we just had a great time.
- 18:03It was the same weekend that Ryan Samberg got inducted
- 18:07into the Cubs Hall of Fame, and he had a
- 18:10statue presentation down at Wrigley fieldback in June, but we
- 18:15missed ZNK And I know I was talking to Bobby
- 18:17Janier and some of the other guys that were his
- 18:19teammates and Rick Suckcliffe and they really missed not singing song.
- 18:23So I hope he's doing well. I haven't talked to
- 18:26him in a while, but he was one of my
- 18:28favorite guys. Just a down the earth person, hard nosed guy.
- 18:32And this is a he left everything out on the field.
- 18:35He never gave it a bat up, and he never
- 18:38was afraid to go ahead and not die for a
- 18:41ball in the outfield.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Yeah, that's still him, and yeah he's a valuable part
- 18:46of our broadcast team. He'll actually step in And I
- 18:49know you know this about him. When he came to
- 18:51the University of Texas in nineteen seventy one seventy two,
- 18:54when he came in there, he came in on a
- 18:57football scholarship, Yes he did. He was a He was
- 19:01a defensive back for coach Royal for two years and
- 19:03then he went to baseball. As he'd liked to say,
- 19:05he never calls Cliff Gustus and a dime in scholarship
- 19:09money because he was on football scholarship. But then, of
- 19:13course was an All American his last couple of years,
- 19:16and for many years was the all time career hits
- 19:19leader at the College World Series. And uh, but what
- 19:22was my color analyst on the Long War and football
- 19:25broadcasts for for nine years because he knows his football really,
- 19:29really well. Then of course went back over the Cubs
- 19:31and worked with him for three years, moved back to
- 19:33Austin and still fills in for US on football. In fact,
- 19:36he's going to fill in on both the Arkansas and
- 19:38A and M broadcasts for US this year. So we're
- 19:40looking well.
- 19:40Speaker 3: I got to tell you two quick little things about
- 19:42keithon real quick that at our anniversary, the forty anniversary,
- 19:48we always talked about key points in that season, and
- 19:52one of the ones that always stood out in my
- 19:53mind was late actually was the beginning of August. We
- 19:57had to beat the Mets four straight games, and I
- 19:59think it was either in the second or the third game,
- 20:02Keith got brushed back and a pitch by Mets pitcher
- 20:05ed Lynch, and at that time everybody was talking to
- 20:10the Cubs go to fade again, like they did in
- 20:12the sixty nine and everything else. Keith went right to
- 20:15the mound and Rode blocked ed Lynch and he didn't.
- 20:20He faked him up high and hit him low. Down
- 20:23went Lynch and down went the Mets. They never recovered
- 20:26from that moment. And that was the That was the
- 20:31big I think the turning point in our season. The
- 20:34other thing is, and I don't know if Keith will
- 20:36tell you this or not, I was doing a show
- 20:40called cub fan Mania that we did from a local
- 20:42restaurant and I brought in Keith as my guest host
- 20:48and that was his start in broadcasting.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Wow, did not know.
- 20:53Speaker 3: You tell Zonki he still ows me some money from
- 20:55those days getting them launched in his career because he
- 20:59would come into the restaurant and he was just learning
- 21:02the ropes of being a broadcaster. And you know what,
- 21:05he came and within within two or three times of
- 21:08being on the air, he was a.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Natural, no doubt. And we always enjoy enjoy working with

- 21:59worns h roll through and winter national title, maybe we're
- 22:02visiting again in late January, end of February about a
- 22:05commemorative National Championship football.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Well, I'm sure they'll be. If they're not going to
- 22:10be in the top four. I think they're what ranked
- 22:12number two now, but I think if they're gonna be
- 22:14if it won't be in the top four, they certainly
- 22:17will be in the top six or seven. So they'll
- 22:19be in the playoff for sure, and they'll have a
- 22:22good time in the SEC. They'll get they'll get battle
- 22:25trained by you know, playing playing Georgia and some teams
- 22:29like that, and of course Texas A and M at
- 22:31the end of the year, so I think they'll be
- 22:33there in the hunt. Certainly I'm gonna predict at least
- 22:36be in the semifinals. If not in the final game.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Well, we'll certainly hope that. Bob, it's always great a
- 22:41visit with you. I appreciate the opportunity to catch up

- 22:51again down the road.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Well, Craig, it's it's been a pleasure being with you.
- 22:54Give my best to Keith and give my phone number two.
- 22:59And I'd love to itch up with Zokis. He was
- 23:01always one of my favorites in the nine years I
- 23:04was with the organization, and certainly I have fond memories
- 23:07of him playing on our team, especially in nineteen eighty four.
- 23:11Speaker 1: No doubt I'll be sure to do it. Thank you, Bob,
- 23:13thanks for joining us. Okay, Craig, have a good day
- 23:15you too. That is Bob iyback from Nico Sports and again,
- 23:19uh the number if you're interested in ordering one of
- 23:22those footballs and again neighborhood Longhorns benefiting from it as well.
- 23:26Eight hundred three four five two eight six eight. That's
- 23:29eight hundred three four five two eight six eight and
- 23:31it's nicosports dot Com in ik coo up next, Inconceivable
- 23:36for a Wednesday afternoon on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
- 23:40zone of the iHeartRadio app Inconceivable, inconceivable, inconceivable and give
- 23:46you in that far. I don't think of miss what
- 23:48do you think of, miss Ah? What does inconceivable mean
- 23:52on a Wednesday afternoon? Well, Khalul Rendall's about to find out,
- 23:56you know, because this is his you know, his first
- 24:00go around in dealing with inconceivable. We always start off,
- 24:06if we've got it, Khalil, with a fast food or
- 24:08junk food up there? Are you much of a fast
- 24:10food eat or a junk food eat? Do you do
- 24:11much of that?
- 24:12Speaker 3: No?
- 24:12Speaker 1: Not really good for you. Those of us who are
- 24:15hopelessly trapped in that world sometimes come back. But let
- 24:19me ask you this. We ever a fan of SpongeBob
- 24:22square Pants, I love it one of my really shows.
- 24:25Then you need to know that Wendy's is coming out
- 24:29with a Krabby Patty. Really Yeah, it's called the Krabby
- 24:34Patty Collab and it starts next Monday, is what it'll be.
- 24:40And for those who wanted to know, you know, the
- 24:43Krabby Patty, what's the name of the place where where
- 24:45SpongeBob would get a Krabby Patty, The Crusty krab the
- 24:47krusty krab. See, I knew, I knew you would know that. Okay.
- 24:52So they announced that they're partnering with Paramount to celebrate
- 24:55the twenty fifth anniversary of SpongeBob Wow by launching the
- 24:59Krabby patt Collab. Wendy's is So. This collab features two
- 25:03menu items that will be available at whin they'se Restaurants
- 25:06nationwide for a limited time. They have the Pineapple under
- 25:10the Sea Frosty. Okay that sounds good. Yeah, it's a
- 25:13vanilla frosty with a pineapple apple mango flavored pure swirl,
- 25:19a first of its kind frosty flavor innovation. And then
- 25:23they have the Crabby Patty Collab Burger. It's the take
- 25:26on the famous burger in SpongeBob has a quarter poud
- 25:31of beef, two slices of cheese, let us tomato, pickle
- 25:34onion in a top secret crabby collab sauce on a
- 25:38toasted bun begins next Tuesday. Okay, I'm excited about that,
- 25:42all right. So even a person that's not so much
- 25:45into the fast food you might be tempted to try
- 25:48it out then, is what you're saying? Yes, okay, do
- 25:51you like ice cream? I like frozen yogurt? Okay, learning
- 25:57more about you is the day goes on here. Ghalil
- 26:02Ben and Jerry's is one of the famous ice cream
- 26:04companies the country. In fact, I did a tour of
- 26:08their ice cream plant in Vermont back many many years ago.
- 26:13But they're bringing back a flavor on October tenth, ten ten.
- 26:20And the reason for that and the flavors, they're pumpkin cheesecake. Okay,
- 26:25they're pumpkin cheesecake ice cream. And so it's got this
- 26:32creamy frozen treat maybe with a thick gram crackers swirl
- 26:37sixteen ounce pipe. They'll bring it out and they bring
- 26:41it back in the fall. So they're bringing it back
- 26:43next week on the tenth because it was rated a
- 26:46ten out of ten on back in the day as
- 26:49being that good in ice cream those of us who
- 26:51are not in the pumpkin, eh, not so much. I
- 26:54like chunky Monkey, you know, the banana verything like that. Yeah, yeah,
- 26:58that's good. The cherries Garcia after Jerry Garcia. There's different
- 27:02ones that I like. But you know anyway, that one's
- 27:06coming next week. Okay, this is this is a nice gesture.
- 27:14There are a lot of us who go through a
- 27:17lot of headaches with air travel. Do you fly, munch,
- 27:22I do not, Actually can't stand flying right now? Right well, well,
- 27:26I understand that United Airlines passengers were pretty upset. This
- 27:32happened a few days ago and it was going from
- 27:37Houston to San Francisco, and they had some issues because
- 27:44a Navy man had passed out and collapsed in the bathroom.
- 27:48Prompted the pilot to ask if they're any medical professionals
- 27:51on board to help, before announcing the plane would have
- 27:54to land to seek help. So they landed in New Mexico.
- 27:58All right, So they landed emergency stop in Albuquerque. Medical event,
- 28:02they get him off the plane, but then they couldn't
- 28:06take off again. All the passengers were asked to disembark
- 28:10from the aircraft. They waited for a new flight crew
- 28:12to ride because the other flight crew was out hours.
- 28:15So this brought about a long, long delay one hundred
- 28:19and fifty passengers, so they're really upset. So now it
- 28:22gets in the nighttime. Passengers were eventually given fifteen dollar
- 28:26food vouchers, but one of the passengers said, all the
- 28:29airport restaurants were shut down. They were closed by that. Wow.
- 28:33So the pilot who had to navigate the emergency landing
- 28:37saw what was happening. So what did he do. He
- 28:41ordered dozens, well thirty total pizzas from a local pizza
- 28:47shop and had it delivered, and he went and hand
- 28:50delivered these pizzas and gave out slices of pizzas to
- 28:53the passengers. That's nice, pretty cool.
- 28:56Speaker 2: I would appreciate that because I know in a situation
- 28:58like that, I would be frustrated. I mean, fifteen dollars
- 29:01voucher for food in the airport, it might get you
- 29:03a back of chips.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:04Speaker 1: And then and then, like I said, they were all
- 29:06closed anyway, so you can't get anything anyway. Thank goodness
- 29:09he did that. Let's get caught up on all the
- 29:14tropical storm stuff because it's it's kind of scary obviously
- 29:18with the tragic stuff that happened with Hurricane Helene. They're
- 29:21going to be cleaning up for a while in my
- 29:23home state of North Carolina, in the western part of
- 29:25the state, especially up in the mountains. So they have
- 29:29been tracking three other storms in the Tropics free Fortunately
- 29:38right now the most dangerous of these Kirk, which is
- 29:42a Category two hurricane and could reach Cap four status.
- 29:47It's starting to curve north in the Atlantic and not
- 29:51go out into the Gulf and not and even east
- 29:54of Bermuda what he calls him that. So here's this
- 29:57churning storm that is going on in the Atlanta in
- 30:04the Atlantic, and they said it could wind up being
- 30:08one of the most powerful storms ever. But it's just
- 30:11hanging out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, so
- 30:14unless you're flying or on a boat going across there,
- 30:17you're probably not going to encounter it. And then by
- 30:19the time it reaches the real cold water when you
- 30:21get up north, it'll decompress after that. But they're watching that.
- 30:24There's another storm directly behind that, but they think it's
- 30:28just gonna, you know, follow the other one. It's going
- 30:30to trail the hurricane Kirk. And then there's a third
- 30:33one that is in the Gulf, but it's not really
- 30:38well formed yet. It's not a well formed tropical it's
- 30:44not even really a tropical depression right now. It doesn't
- 30:47have a name on it yet. They said it's pretty
- 30:50unorganized and they're hoping that that'll stay out of the area.
- 30:53So that's that's good to know there, especially as the
- 30:55folks are cleaning up from the in the aftermath of
- 30:58Hurricane Helene. Okay, things, Are you a collector of things?
- 31:04Speaker 4: Yes?
- 31:05Speaker 1: Yes, I collect what do you collect? Manga? Basketball cards,
- 31:08football cards? Okay? And pens from where places I visit?
- 31:12All right, So you would be interested in collecting a
- 31:16medallion then? Right?
- 31:18Speaker 3: Oh?
- 31:18Speaker 1: Yes, would you be interested in collecting a medallion that
- 31:21contains the original mold from the discovery of penicillin? Actually? Yes? Okay?
- 31:27This happened in nineteen thirty was when doctor Alexander fleming
- 31:31A nineteen twenty eight discovered penicillin when he accidentally left
- 31:37a stack of staff cultures next to an open window
- 31:41while on vacation. He comes back from vacation, the cultures
- 31:44were contaminated by an airborne mold, and before disposing of
- 31:48the cultures, he noticed that the mold had prevented normal
- 31:51growth by the staff, so he was able to create
- 31:56the medallion is a gift for his niece and inscribed
- 31:59it with the message the mold that made penicillin Alexander Fleming.
- 32:05So this medallion contains a specimen of the original penicillin
- 32:10mold on blotting paper, mounted with a glass disc held
- 32:15in place by a black plastic rim two inch in
- 32:19diameter thing. So where can I buy this? Well, it's
- 32:23going to go on auction online auction and it'll start
- 32:26next week. Entry bid is thirty thousand dollars. Okay, so
- 32:32it might be a little outpriced for you there, a
- 32:34little bit, all right, It could go anyway, thirty to
- 32:37fifty thousand dollars for mold. Who right, all right, there's
- 32:42our heart inconceivable For Wednesday, we'll be back to wrap
- 32:48up a hour number one on sports radio AM thirteen
- 32:50under the Zone. Had a few hits, a few the
- 32:54keyword there, this was probably his biggest one there. I
- 32:57just want to stop. And Khalil was taken by the
- 33:00fact when he pulled up the music about the amount
- 33:03of hair that Gino Videlli was sporting so much.
- 33:08Speaker 2: I don't, folks, you can't see this picture like I had.
- 33:12I've had a big afro before. I've had a lot
- 33:15of hair before. But man, not like that, not like that.
- 33:18It's the front, top, sides back, and it's just incredible.
- 33:22It almost looks like those like Mount Rushmore wigs, like
- 33:26two of those.
- 33:27Speaker 1: See. You have to understand that the seventies and eighties
- 33:29were big hair times, you know, I see it was
- 33:32a big hair time.
- 33:33Speaker 2: He's a small guy, yeah, so it's like a third
- 33:35of his body.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, it's a lot of hair. A lot of
- 33:38hair also from some of the other bands that we'll
- 33:40hear from coming up with the with the yacht rock thing.
- 33:45Just updating you on the Astros and the Tigers as
- 33:50they play game two right now, and that contest is
- 33:54in the bottom of the fifth inning and no score
- 33:56between Houston and Detroit. They're going to the bottom of
- 33:59the right now at minute made park, all right, So
- 34:03we're coming up on the top of the hour and
- 34:07coming up on the top of the hour, and that's
- 34:10gonna lead us in the general direction of hour number two.
- 34:17And in the second hour we're going to hear from Longgrns,
- 34:24hit Football, coach Steve Sarkasian. We'll do that. We'll keep
- 34:26you updated on what's going on with the baseball playoffs,
- 34:31because the second game of the four to be played
- 34:35today is about to get underway in Baltimore, where the
- 34:38Orioles host the Kansas City Royals. And Royals one nothing yesterday,
- 34:43so they're up one game to none, so Baltimore, like Houston,
- 34:46in a must win situation. Later this afternoon, Milwaukee will
- 34:50host the New York Mets in Game two. Mets one
- 34:52game one. They're at American Family Field there in Cheese Land,
- 35:00so the Brewers have to win to keep that going.
- 35:03And then tonight's Game two in San Diego between the
- 35:05pod Rais and the Braves in San Diego up one
- 35:07game the nine after shutting out Atlanta last night, four nothing.
- 35:10But stay with us our number two of the program
- 35:12coming up right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
- 35:15The Zone.
- 35:44Speaker 5: It's the Morning Kickoff Show with Mike Hartballharsh and Mark
- 35:48Henridy weekdays from seven to nine am only on Sports
- 35:51Radio AY. I'm thirteen hundred the Zone.
- 35:54Speaker 1: From the Audio Visual Consultation Studio.
- 35:56Speaker 5: This is kd E T A m Austin AM thirteen
- 35:59hundred The Zone. Listen on the free iHeartRadio WAF for
- 36:02all your sports podcasts and music. He's a Texas legend,
- 36:12a Hall of Fame broadcaster, the voice of the Texas Longhords,
- 36:17and your host of the Craigway Show.
- 36:20Speaker 3: Here he is now Craig.
- 36:23Speaker 4: Way second hour of the program here on sports Radio
- 36:50AM thirteen hundred.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Zone and Craig wait with you. Put random one bruise
- 36:56your alongside on boy and unavailable Cameron Parker, So he'll
- 37:10uh sow khalil in for that this afternoon. Updating the
- 37:13baseball going on right now, Astros and Tigers are scoreless
- 37:19as the Astros bats with the leadoff man aboard. I
- 37:23said that and he's now forced out at second. Tigers
- 37:27weren't able to get the double play and in fact
- 37:30the man sliding in the second once a review, he
- 37:32thinks that the app wasn't recorded, even though the umpire
- 37:35says it happened on the transfer as Spencer Gath was
- 37:40pulling the ball out of the glove. So I don't
- 37:41know if they're going to review that or not, but anyway,
- 37:43it is scoreless between the Tigers and uh the Astros
- 37:49in Game two. Yeah, there's no doubt it was. It
- 37:51was on the transfer looking at a replay, uh there.
- 37:54So one out will be recorded and the Astros will
- 37:56still have a runner at first base with one out.
- 38:02We'll keep you updated on the baseball the other the
- 38:04other game getting ready to start Baltimore and Kansas City.
- 38:10Detroit is now making a pitching change with a runner
- 38:14at first in one out, so we'll see how that goes.
- 38:16No score and that is in the bottom half of
- 38:18the fifth inning. Tiger's winning yesterday three to one behind
- 38:22Tarik Scuoball, who's proven was this year anyway the best
- 38:26starting pitcher in all of baseball. League won Baseball's pitching
- 38:30Triple Crown wins E, r A and strikeouts. So the
- 38:37Astros backed into a corner and they have to figure
- 38:40out from there. All right, let's hear from long orange
- 38:43Head football coach Steve Sarkisian. Now this is going to
- 38:46be from the SEC teleconference. Remember sark did his news
- 38:54conference on Monday. Because this is an open date week
- 38:58on the schedule. They're bye week on the schedule. There
- 39:01are no more media availabilities local for Sark Like normally
- 39:06on Thursdays, he does a media zoom with the there's
- 39:10player availabilities, none of that stuff on this open date,
- 39:14only the news conference dat on Monday. However, the SEC
- 39:17has a man Data teleconference where every coach is on
- 39:20it every week, regardless of whether they're playing or not.
- 39:24So that applied to Text has also applied to Oklahoma. Remember,
- 39:27the Sooners are going through an open date on the
- 39:28schedule this week as well, leading up to the two
- 39:32teams meeting in Dallas a week from the Saturday in
- 39:35the All state Red River Rivalry matchup, and our coverage
- 39:40will begin at eleven thirty from the Fairgrounds of the
- 39:45State of Text will actually be up there on Friday
- 39:50with coverage and then from the fairgrounds on Saturday morning
- 39:54with Long Horns game Day coverage with an inclusive of
- 39:59Cameron Parker and Mike hardboll Harge and Mark Henry from
- 40:03the fairgrounds at the State of the State Fair of Texas.
- 40:05So they'll get to sit out there in the open
- 40:07while the Sooner fans walk by and flip them off
- 40:09and stuff like that. That'll that's that's a regular behavior there,
- 40:14and I should point out they are longer fans who
- 40:16go by and flip off the Oklahoma game day broadcast
- 40:19teams that are all on the field, and this is
- 40:21part of that whole deal.
- 40:23Speaker 3: You know.
- 40:23Speaker 1: I can remember for years, and I do mean years,
- 40:27if you asked, uh Texas people, one of the one
- 40:33of the humorous things, whether it was Mack Brown or
- 40:35Long warn players, they talk about riding in on that
- 40:37bus and seeing these like eighty something year old grandma's
- 40:41flipping them off from the fairgrounds or little kids flipping
- 40:45them off for the fairgrounds. And then I would go
- 40:47up and I'd cover the Oklahoma news conference and Bob
- 40:51Stoops was the coach back then, and he would say, yeah,
- 40:53that Texas, oklah Though. You Texas Week is something pretty special.
- 40:57Get there and those fans are you know, They're behavior
- 41:00is pretty special. They're they're flipping the off and telling
- 41:03you who's number one and all. So they experienced it
- 41:05also from their side as well. It's part of the
- 41:08victory all that happens between Longhorns and Sooners. It just
- 41:12works that way. That's just how that is. But anyway,
- 41:16it's an open date this week for boat Texas and Oklahoma,
- 41:18so Long Worns head coach Steve Sarkisian asked for some
- 41:22opening thoughts and comments about his team coming out of
- 41:27the win over Mississippi State and going into the bye week.
- 41:30Speaker 6: Yeah, it's always great going into a buy coming off
- 41:34with victory, you know, having started the season the way
- 41:38we had.
- 41:39Speaker 1: It's good to be undefeated.
- 41:41Speaker 6: But naturally you endure some of the bumps and bruises
- 41:44and things that that all teams endure. And so I
- 41:47think the buy is coming out a really good time
- 41:49for us to get some guys healthy, to refresh out
- 41:54of our minds and our bodies, to get ready for
- 41:57another kind of three game block of the season here
- 42:00coming up here in a.
- 42:00Speaker 1: Couple of weeks now, because this is an open date
- 42:04on the schedule and a bye week for Texas. The
- 42:07time that they were going to keep Sark on the
- 42:10SEC Teleconference was going to be short. It wasn't going
- 42:12to be very long. So I don't know if he
- 42:17was puzzled by the answered the question, fine, but remember
- 42:21this is the SEC Teleconference is a national call, so
- 42:28writers in broadcasters, media from across the country can dial
- 42:34in and they can ask a question. So they're all
- 42:38welcome to do that. They can do that as you
- 42:42might imagine the preponderance of the media participating in this
- 42:47thing are going to be from SEC markets and outlets,
- 42:53and that includes in the Deep South, and it certainly
- 42:56been include the state of Alabama. So the first question
- 43:00and that Sark got was not about his football team, uh,
- 43:05but it was about the team they beat last year
- 43:08and the quarterback they beat last year, Jalen Milroe of Alabama, who,
- 43:11of course Jalen is a native Texan, played at Katie
- 43:14Tompkins and had originally committed to Texas before quinn Ewers
- 43:19transferred in and then Milroe changed his commitment ended up
- 43:21going to Alabama. And Milroe has really progressed and had
- 43:24a big game last Saturday night in Tuscal loose against Georgia.
- 43:28So Sark was asked for his thoughts going all the
- 43:30way back when he was recruiting Milroe, when he was
- 43:33still on the Alabama staff, and what he has seen
- 43:37Jalen Milroe accomplish and progress in his time as Alabama's quarterback.
- 43:43Speaker 6: Yeah, we had Jalen in camp at Alabama and great kid,
- 43:47great parents. Obviously, go athleticism was there, the arm talent
- 43:51was there.
- 43:54Speaker 7: I'm give him a lot of credit.
- 43:55Speaker 6: He really worked.
- 43:57Speaker 7: And developed into the revasial point. You know, he just
- 44:00doesn't rely on athleticism. He's a great D ball passer,
- 44:05can stand hines in his arm, extend plays, use his.
- 44:08Speaker 6: Legs, they use him for direct run. So you know,
- 44:12you have an envisionment of wor thinking kid could be
- 44:15early on in his high school career, and then to
- 44:16watch it kind of come to fruition. I guess, you know,
- 44:19I'm happy for him, but I also validate some of
