- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. Powered by Seahawks.com. Now, here's your host, Nassau Chobie.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Welcome to another edition of Hawk Talk. It was a
- 0:14Speaker 2: special night at Lumen Field. The Seahawks took down the
- 0:16Speaker 2: Patriots 13-10. The atmosphere was crazy. Pre-game, it was all
- 0:22Speaker 2: responsible about... Looking at the banner. The team got to
- 0:26Speaker 2: go out, see the banner dropped. It was a crazy night.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Steve Rabel did a great job emceeing the ceremony. Camp
- 0:31Speaker 2: Chancellor got everyone out there ready to go. They dropped
- 0:33Speaker 2: the banner. Richard Sherman was up there raising the 12
- 0:36Speaker 2: flag along with the Coastal family, the new ownership group
- 0:38Speaker 2: of the team.
- 0:38Speaker 1: 12s were rocking.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Cam was there.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Did you say Cam? Yeah, I did.
- 0:42Speaker 3: All right, all right. Just checking.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Give Cam his love. It was one of the best
- 0:46Speaker 2: opening day environments I've ever been around for sure.
- 0:48Speaker 3: No, it was dope, man.
- 0:49Speaker 4: Because Raze was down on the field, I got to
- 0:51Speaker 4: be up there with Dave and kind of set the
- 0:54Speaker 4: scene and with jen miller down the field no it
- 0:56Speaker 4: was cool man first time i've ever been a part
- 0:58Speaker 4: of a banner ceremony yes first time for me and
- 1:01Speaker 4: uh no the 12s are in their seats early ready to.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Go yeah i think that was the earliest i know
- 1:05Speaker 2: the seahawks prompted everyone to be in their seats by
- 1:07Speaker 2: five but people were oh yeah it's a weekday traffic
- 1:10Speaker 2: people were in their seats i've never seen the stadium
- 1:11Speaker 2: that full it was a little bit last year um
- 1:14Speaker 2: in the playoffs it was close to that but no
- 1:15Speaker 2: it was a super dope atmosphere seahawks get the dub
- 1:18Speaker 2: um It was the most entertaining, at times sloppy, but just.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Good football game, good defense, hard nose. It was physical.
- 1:27Speaker 2: The Seahawks now 11-game win streak, including the playoffs, ties
- 1:30Speaker 2: the longest win streak in franchise history. But let's waste
- 1:33Speaker 2: no more time. Let's get right into it, what had happened.
- 1:37Speaker 4: See, what had happened was what had happened at first
- 1:40Speaker 4: was what had happened was on Hawk Talk.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Seahawks came out the gate strong, had back-to-back 13-yard plays.
- 1:46Speaker 2: They were rolling with Sam and that first crew. But
- 1:49Speaker 2: fizzled out after a penalty, then an incompletion. Then to
- 1:51Speaker 2: make matters worse, Darnold gets sacked, but he goes down,
- 1:54Speaker 2: comes up limping. I saw it initially as he kind
- 1:56Speaker 2: of came off the field. I was like, it doesn't
- 1:58Speaker 2: look good.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Is that a hit?
- 1:59Speaker 2: What is it? We come to find out he injured
- 2:01Speaker 2: his hip and wouldn't return to the game. Coach McDonald
- 2:05Speaker 2: feels very positive about the injury, thinking it won't be serious.
- 2:07Speaker 2: We'll talk about that a little bit later. But a
- 2:08Speaker 2: real gut punch to start the game up.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Yeah, that's not the way you want to start, especially
- 2:12Speaker 4: after his first throw to JSM. I'm thinking, ooh, my
- 2:15Speaker 4: man is confident. He's looking good.
- 2:17Speaker 3: But next man up. So Drew Locke was in.
- 2:19Speaker 4: And the first five drives of the game for both
- 2:21Speaker 4: teams with in and punts before the Pages marched down
- 2:24Speaker 4: the field going 10 plays, 77 yards and a touchdown
- 2:27Speaker 4: to make the score 7-0 after a two-yard touchdown. They
- 2:31Speaker 4: were helped out big time. There was a PI call
- 2:32Speaker 4: against A.J. Brown or against Joe. He was covering A.J.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Brown.
- 2:37Speaker 4: And he just looked a little too late. In real time,
- 2:40Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, man, he's got to look for the ball.
- 2:41Speaker 4: And when they slowed it down, you see him trying
- 2:43Speaker 4: to look for the ball, but he already made contact.
- 2:45Speaker 4: Going to throw that flag every time, especially when the
- 2:47Speaker 4: receiver is going back for the football.
- 2:49Speaker 3: But it is what it is.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it was a good recovery.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I mean, it was one of those plays where Brown
- 2:54Speaker 2: literally almost stopped playing.
- 2:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:56Speaker 2: So it's kind of just enough to kind of lull
- 2:58Speaker 2: you to sleep. Joe had a good recovery speed. He
- 3:00Speaker 2: obviously made up for it later in the game.
- 3:02Speaker 1: But, no, it happens. They get down there. They score.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Kind of a little surprising, but a good confidence brooder
- 3:07Speaker 2: for the Patriots, thinking, okay, we came into this house.
- 3:09Speaker 1: We were able to score.
- 3:10Speaker 2: For the Seahawks, the next few drives resulted in punts,
- 3:12Speaker 2: and the Seahawks went into the locker room trailing seven points.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Three at the half. Third quarter also moved pretty slow
- 3:18Speaker 2: with the first four possessions. Both teams added some field goals.
- 3:21Speaker 2: That made the score 10-3. Bump of intensity of the
- 3:23Speaker 2: game really picked.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Up in the fourth quarter.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Yeah, man.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Drake Bay on his first possession, which was just a
- 3:28Speaker 4: sign of things to come.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Man, you feel that pressure, man.
- 3:32Speaker 4: And the Hawks answered with a five-play 67-yard drive with
- 3:35Speaker 4: a 45-yard touchdown that JSN that tied the game. We're
- 3:38Speaker 4: going to talk about that later. JSN, sneaky game. Sneaky
- 3:42Speaker 4: game last night. On the very next possession, you got
- 3:44Speaker 4: Jay Love. He picked off Drake May. Love what he
- 3:46Speaker 4: did with the bait on this one. Disguised the coverage
- 3:49Speaker 4: in the secondary. This is what a veteran does on
- 3:51Speaker 4: the back end. It looked like he was in quarters.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Didn't commit too early. Made the play. Flew across the field.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Made the catch. The run after the catch, though. I
- 4:02Speaker 4: don't think that's getting enough love. He stepped back, snatched
- 4:04Speaker 4: some ankles, went down the sideline. He looked good with
- 4:06Speaker 4: the ball in his hand.
- 4:07Speaker 5: Oh, my.
- 4:07Speaker 1: He got Dobbs bad on that, too. Just snatched some ankles.
- 4:10Speaker 2: And the cool thing, too, is very similar in Not in–
- 4:12Speaker 2: this catch was more difficult, but similar to the Super Bowl, right,
- 4:15Speaker 2: where he's talking about film study. Hey, when May hits
- 4:17Speaker 2: that back foot, that ball's coming out. And then he waited,
- 4:19Speaker 2: like you said, baited, went and made that play. The Seahawks, unfortunately,
- 4:23Speaker 2: would not score a touchdown off of that. They would
- 4:25Speaker 2: kick a field goal, making the score 13-10. The Patriots
- 4:28Speaker 2: then bump, answered, coming down the field, 15 plays, 57 yards,
- 4:32Speaker 2: a drive that felt like it would just never end.
- 4:33Speaker 1: They conferred on a fourth and nine.
- 4:35Speaker 2: A couple close plays, but ultimately– Drake May was intercepted
- 4:39Speaker 2: by Josh Jobe in the end zone. We'll break that
- 4:41Speaker 2: down a little bit later with 26 seconds left and
- 4:44Speaker 2: seal the deal.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Yeah, it was all about the defense. They stole the show.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Three sacks, three interceptions, nine tackles for losses, six passes defended,
- 4:50Speaker 4: and five QB hits.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Hey, going back to J-Love real quick.
- 4:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Second game in a row he intercepted this man. Remember
- 4:56Speaker 4: the sound bite in the Super Bowl?
- 4:58Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
- 4:59Speaker 4: He hits that back when he's going. So J-Love, just
- 5:00Speaker 4: a smart football player out there. But Mike McDonald became
- 5:04Speaker 4: the first head coach to win more than 10 straight
- 5:05Speaker 4: games prior to turning 40. He ain't even 40 yet,
- 5:08Speaker 4: and that includes the playoffs in the Super Bowl era.
- 5:11Speaker 4: It wasn't the prettiest, but a win's a win.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Yeah, they all count the same. That's the thing I
- 5:15Speaker 1: wrote down. It doesn't matter.
- 5:16Speaker 2: You don't get style ports for any of that stuff.
- 5:18Speaker 2: And going back to Sam Darnold, that was obviously the
- 5:20Speaker 2: biggest thing. I think 12s everywhere, anyone who was at
- 5:23Speaker 2: that game was really concerned. The good news looks like
- 5:26Speaker 2: Sam Darnold avoided serious injury and any type of fracture
- 5:29Speaker 2: in his hip. Coach McDonald said this morning with Brock
- 5:31Speaker 2: and Salk that Darnold's hip is intact and it appears
- 5:34Speaker 2: the injury is more muscular. Don't know how much time
- 5:36Speaker 2: he's going to miss. If any, what's going to happen.
- 5:38Speaker 2: But knowing that it's not going to be a season-ending
- 5:40Speaker 2: type injury is amazing.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Obviously, we know what Sam Darnold can do.
- 5:44Speaker 2: So obviously, really hoping for a speedy recovery because this
- 5:47Speaker 2: team is at its best when he's on the field.
- 5:48Speaker 2: But we're going to give Drew Locke a lot of
- 5:51Speaker 2: flowers today. But that's why John Snyder has him here
- 5:54Speaker 2: because he can come in and help this team win
- 5:56Speaker 2: football games.
- 5:57Speaker 1: But overall bump, now you've had You know, a little
- 5:59Speaker 1: bit of time to digest. What did you learn from
- 6:01Speaker 1: this game?
- 6:01Speaker 3: Hey, these dudes are resilient. You lose your starting quarterback.
- 6:05Speaker 4: Your rookie OC loses his starting quarterback after the first drive.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Five plays in and you got to go with your
- 6:12Speaker 4: number two. You got Nehemiah Pritchett, a guy who's been
- 6:15Speaker 4: a special teams guy who made some plays. You had
- 6:17Speaker 4: to start Rodney Thomas, who you got from the Colts.
- 6:21Speaker 4: It was just I never really felt like these guys
- 6:23Speaker 4: were in trouble. I know they were down and things
- 6:25Speaker 4: were sloppy at times. But I never really felt like
- 6:28Speaker 4: they were incapable of coming back and winning this ballgame.
- 6:31Speaker 4: And they showed it, man. You just keep grinding. You
- 6:33Speaker 4: got to clean some stuff up, right? Too many penalties.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Six penalties for 68 yards in the first half. Ended
- 6:38Speaker 4: up with 10, I believe, for a little over 100.
- 6:40Speaker 4: I mean, the first half, New England had zero penalties.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Ended up with seven. So there was a back and
- 6:45Speaker 4: forth when it comes to sloppiness. Got to clean some
- 6:46Speaker 4: stuff up.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I know it's the first game of the regular season.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Everyone's playing. But yeah, resilience is the word. I mean,
- 6:51Speaker 2: just the way that this team battled back going into
- 6:53Speaker 2: the game.
- 6:54Speaker 1: No Emanwari, right? No Okada.
- 6:56Speaker 2: You're already banged up in the secondary. So really cool
- 6:58Speaker 2: to see those guys step up. And Drew Locke to
- 7:00Speaker 2: just be ready.
- 7:00Speaker 1: That is one of the hardest jobs in America. It
- 7:02Speaker 1: looks good. People are like, oh, he's getting paid.
- 7:04Speaker 3: He's not playing.
- 7:05Speaker 2: You need to be the most prepared guy and then
- 7:07Speaker 2: not sometimes get to play as hard enough.
- 7:09Speaker 1: And then you're thrust into the action. He didn't have
- 7:11Speaker 1: any reps.
- 7:12Speaker 3: No.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Which is insane.
- 7:13Speaker 3: No reps are the ones.
- 7:14Speaker 1: And then to just go out there and do that thing.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And it's insane.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I think Fleury talked about this, and everyone's different. Everyone's
- 7:22Speaker 2: talked about the positive and negative. He spoke extensively about
- 7:25Speaker 2: positives of being in the booth or on the field.
- 7:27Speaker 2: In a game like that, it would have been really hard,
- 7:30Speaker 2: in my opinion, obviously, you can say whatever, I don't
- 7:32Speaker 2: know anything, but to not be on the field. I
- 7:35Speaker 2: think him being on the field was really important in
- 7:36Speaker 2: a game like that, just to make sure any of
- 7:38Speaker 2: those little details were not missed.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Hey, face-to-face bump, what's going on? Am I getting the
- 7:43Speaker 1: play in quick enough?
- 7:44Speaker 2: Talk about the operation, just real quick, a little bit,
- 7:47Speaker 2: and how easily they can clean that up going into
- 7:49Speaker 2: next week.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Well, when we talk operation, we're talking about, okay, receiving
- 7:54Speaker 4: the play via the, the headset from OC to quarterback,
- 7:59Speaker 4: getting in the huddle, relaying the play, getting to the
- 8:01Speaker 4: line of scrimmage, understanding what the audibles are audibly. Sometimes
- 8:05Speaker 4: helping your center out when it comes to protection, making
- 8:08Speaker 4: sure everyone outside is lined up and ready to go.
- 8:10Speaker 4: There are things checklist that happened before a play that
- 8:13Speaker 4: needs to run smoothly.
- 8:14Speaker 3: That's why it's so crucial.
- 8:16Speaker 4: You have a veteran backup in this game because you,
- 8:18Speaker 4: He's got 1,000-plus snaps under his belt.
- 8:20Speaker 3: He's done this before.
- 8:22Speaker 4: So it's all about making sure everyone's where they need
- 8:24Speaker 4: to be, the play is communicated, now we're ready to execute,
- 8:27Speaker 4: go out and play some ball.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Yeah, no, and I think that's something they're going to
- 8:31Speaker 2: get cleaned up, especially when you get all those reps
- 8:33Speaker 2: and everyone's got a couple games under their belt.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I think it's going to look up from here. There's
- 8:37Speaker 1: a lot of people out there making plays, playmakers.
- 8:41Speaker 6: Touchdown, Seahawks!
- 8:44Speaker 2: Playmakers we've been talking about the quarterbacks we'll say right
- 8:51Speaker 2: there drew lock 16 of 22 187 yards one touchdown
- 8:55Speaker 2: zero interception sack just the one time qb rating of
- 8:58Speaker 2: 113.3 made a lot of clutch throws in the second
- 9:01Speaker 2: half and like i said super impressive he didn't have
- 9:03Speaker 2: any reps this week in practice john schneider and everyone
- 9:06Speaker 2: on this team is raved about drew lock and that's
- 9:08Speaker 2: exactly why i think If you're ever out at a
- 9:10Speaker 2: practice this year, the practice we all got to see,
- 9:12Speaker 2: Drew has been on fire all offseason.
- 9:14Speaker 1: He had a great offseason. Drew was with the Seahawks.
- 9:17Speaker 1: He left.
- 9:17Speaker 2: It was really important that they got him back in
- 9:19Speaker 2: this building for moments like that last night.
- 9:21Speaker 1: And I just love his demeanor. He's never too high,
- 9:24Speaker 1: too low. He's always even keel.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Even at the end, right, Milrow's picking him up, trying
- 9:29Speaker 2: to celebrate, and he's like, chill, I need to make
- 9:30Speaker 2: sure the interception is good.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Okay, now I can celebrate. Did he do it?
- 9:35Speaker 4: Uh yeah at some point all right cool you know
- 9:37Speaker 4: what i like speaking about his demeanor that third and
- 9:40Speaker 4: 22 yeah play made to jason that is a confident
- 9:44Speaker 4: throw middle of the field safety over the top corner
- 9:48Speaker 4: underneath mike or the robber going to the football the
- 9:50Speaker 4: window is like three or four yards wide and to
- 9:53Speaker 4: make that throw on third and 22 i'm thinking i
- 9:56Speaker 4: run the ball let's play a field position game and
- 9:58Speaker 4: let's go but they said nah i'm making this throw
- 10:00Speaker 4: so perfect example of drew staying ready man next up
- 10:04Speaker 4: we got the best receiver in the league jackson smith
- 10:07Speaker 4: and jig but once again second year in a row
- 10:09Speaker 4: he went for 124 last year game one no touchdowns
- 10:11Speaker 4: he goes for 122 this year with a touchdown on
- 10:14Speaker 4: eight receptions Long of 45. He passed Joey Galloway for
- 10:18Speaker 4: 9th place on Seattle's all-time receptions list with 290. Passed
- 10:22Speaker 4: Korn Robinson 10th place on Seattle's all-time receiving yards list
- 10:25Speaker 4: with 3,673. He continues to show why he's that dude, man.
- 10:29Speaker 4: He just gets open. I watch every route that he ran,
- 10:33Speaker 4: and his style is so unpredictable. Usually when you're running routes,
- 10:37Speaker 4: you look at Justin Jefferson, old-school Devontae Adams, and everything
- 10:41Speaker 4: is so sharp and linear.
- 10:43Speaker 3: And routes that are typically... sharp and linear.
- 10:45Speaker 4: He smooths out but because he's so deceptive at the
- 10:48Speaker 4: top of his routes he's able to get away with
- 10:49Speaker 4: that stuff it's just fun to watch him play man
- 10:52Speaker 4: and it's fun to hear how humble he is after
- 10:54Speaker 4: the games too.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Oh yeah no question about it and like when hard
- 10:57Speaker 2: knocks did that big feature on him like showing like
- 10:59Speaker 2: the overhead angle which was really cool of all the
- 11:00Speaker 2: routes he was running talked about he's so hard to
- 11:03Speaker 2: defend as a db because it looks the same yeah
- 11:05Speaker 2: it's the way his body control where he's at he's
- 11:07Speaker 2: not He's not crazy speeding up or down. It's all
- 11:10Speaker 2: feels the same. And to some, it feels like it's
- 11:13Speaker 2: in slow motion, but yet here he is running past people.
- 11:15Speaker 2: And it's just, he's best in the game for a reason.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Jackson Smith and Jake, but around the Seahawks for a
- 11:19Speaker 2: long time coming.
- 11:21Speaker 1: We'll stay on offense. Jadarian price, man. We need to
- 11:24Speaker 1: see more just straight up.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I know they're ramping them up and I know there's
- 11:27Speaker 2: a greater plan because he needs to get through every
- 11:29Speaker 2: game this year to help the Seahawks get to where
- 11:31Speaker 2: they want to go.
- 11:32Speaker 1: But I saw it.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Everything that we heard about in the off season, everything
- 11:35Speaker 2: we've heard about from Notre Dame to getting here, He
- 11:38Speaker 2: had 10 carries, 52 yards, two receptions for six yards,
- 11:41Speaker 2: multiple 10-yard runs. He was explosive. He fell forward. He's
- 11:45Speaker 2: more physical than I think people would give him credit for.
- 11:48Speaker 2: And I just want to see him tote the rock.
- 11:50Speaker 2: He's a guy that could easily have 15 to 20
- 11:53Speaker 2: carries every single game. We'll see what happens when Sharps
- 11:55Speaker 2: comes back. But from what we saw in limited action
- 11:57Speaker 2: in one game, that was a hell of a debut.
- 11:59Speaker 4: He's the fastest running back this organization has ever had.
- 12:01Speaker 4: I'm going to say it right now. He's faster than Sean.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Sean's great. I'm not hating on Sean Alexander. MVP, faster
- 12:07Speaker 4: than Carson, faster than Lynch.
- 12:09Speaker 3: He has his own style.
- 12:10Speaker 4: I was trying to look for a comp, but I
- 12:11Speaker 4: can't find one right now. But he's decisive. I mean,
- 12:14Speaker 4: 13 yards on his first carry in the league says
- 12:17Speaker 4: something about him. Can't wait to see what he does
- 12:19Speaker 4: when they ramp up. Only 10 carries, but he'll get
- 12:22Speaker 4: some more. Jay Love, man, the general in the back.
- 12:24Speaker 4: Six tackles, two TFLs, one pass defended, one interception. I
- 12:28Speaker 4: love the interception, but I really love the TFL, man.
- 12:30Speaker 4: When he shot the A, the B gap, boom, hits
- 12:32Speaker 4: the running back.
- 12:33Speaker 3: In the backfield.
- 12:34Speaker 4: I believe it was him and Lawrence getting after it
- 12:37Speaker 4: on a third and short or a fourth down. J-Love
- 12:40Speaker 4: picking up where he left off. Picked off Dre in
- 12:42Speaker 4: the Super Bowl. Drake in the Super Bowl. Picked him
- 12:44Speaker 4: off now. J-Love, the general, doing his thing. He just moved, man.
- 12:49Speaker 4: The president, whatever you want to call J-Love, he holds
- 12:52Speaker 4: it down in the secondary. For all the angst about
- 12:54Speaker 4: people not playing, J-Love is really that anchor back there.
- 12:57Speaker 1: It helps things out.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Nehemiah Pritchett, dude, six tackles, two pass defended, one interception.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Super happy for him because the whole offseason, one of
- 13:05Speaker 2: the biggest conversations, right, it was running back and it
- 13:08Speaker 2: was third corner, right? And throughout all the offseason, you're
- 13:10Speaker 2: looking to battle him and Noah Gronogany, and then you
- 13:13Speaker 2: bring in Diggs, right? And then Arnold might be eventually
- 13:16Speaker 2: a part of this thing. And you bring on all
- 13:17Speaker 2: these people. Avery Smith comes in last minute. And all
- 13:20Speaker 2: these people are thinking, okay, well, they're coming for this job.
- 13:22Speaker 2: But what does he do? He's out there. He's playing
- 13:25Speaker 2: a ton of the snaps. I think he played, I
- 13:27Speaker 2: wrote it down here, 75% of the snaps. And he
- 13:29Speaker 2: played his best game that I've seen him play in
- 13:31Speaker 2: a Seahawks uniform. And I don't think it's close. He
- 13:33Speaker 2: made some good open field plays.
- 13:34Speaker 1: He's making plays on the football and made a couple,
- 13:37Speaker 1: a nice PBU on AJ Brown. I think the one
- 13:39Speaker 1: where he got injured, but he just, he looked great.
- 13:41Speaker 1: And I was good, happy for him.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Love the interception. You be where you're supposed to be.
- 13:45Speaker 4: Your safety tips to football. You get the interception, but
- 13:48Speaker 4: you mentioned it. The open field tackles were impressive. That
- 13:51Speaker 4: is a lonely feeling being in an open field one-on-one
- 13:54Speaker 4: with a pass catcher or running back and you going
- 13:57Speaker 4: down there and making a play. Happy for Nehemiah. And
- 14:00Speaker 4: Josh Jobe, man, started off a little rough. Got that
- 14:03Speaker 4: pass interference on the flea flicker to A.J.
- 14:05Speaker 3: Brown.
- 14:05Speaker 4: But he ends up with six tackles, one pass to
- 14:07Speaker 4: defend it, one TFL. The interception to seal the game.
- 14:11Speaker 4: And that was some receiver stuff. Locate the football. Hands
- 14:15Speaker 4: two feet in. Happy for Josh Jobe. Let's keep it rolling.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Yeah, Bump.
- 14:19Speaker 2: And this will be brief, obviously, looking at the wide receivers.
- 14:22Speaker 2: What did you see from those guys as a unit?
- 14:24Speaker 3: I saw JSM.
- 14:26Speaker 4: I saw jsn 11 targets eight receptions 122 cooper cup
- 14:30Speaker 4: did have a clutch one-hand catch being held those dbs
- 14:34Speaker 4: are sneaky man holding that off arm he got that
- 14:37Speaker 4: done should have had or almost had a touchdown a
- 14:40Speaker 4: callback for illegal formation aj barner had two for 13
- 14:43Speaker 4: expect him to get more involved brady ross had two
- 14:45Speaker 4: for 20 price had two for six rashid shaheed had
- 14:48Speaker 4: one for four can't wait until they unlock him too.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Yeah no question about it i think When this offense
- 14:53Speaker 2: gets gelling, whether that's Locke ready to go or when
- 14:56Speaker 2: Sam comes back, I think a lot of those numbers
- 14:57Speaker 2: are going to go up. And we've talked about this
- 14:59Speaker 2: a lot on the post-game show and throughout time because
- 15:02Speaker 2: a lot of people are really concerned about, okay, well,
- 15:04Speaker 2: JSN is getting all the targets.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Brian Walters talks about this all the time. Brian's like,
- 15:08Speaker 1: I'm okay. JSN can't get all those targets because if
- 15:11Speaker 1: he's going to put up over 100 yards every single
- 15:12Speaker 1: game with an explosive touchdown, yeah, we'll take it.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Stop him.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Exactly. There's a reason why he does what he does.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Now we'll flip it over. Talking plays of the game.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Speaking of that guy, Jackson's mythic jig, but he took
- 15:25Speaker 2: it 45 yards to the house on this touchdown from
- 15:27Speaker 2: drew lock play fake.
- 15:29Speaker 3: Drew looks drew throws ball is caught. Guess who?
- 15:31Speaker 6: Jason Briggs and tackle 30, 25, 20.
- 15:32Speaker 5: He is touchdown. Seahawks J S N on a quick
- 15:42Speaker 5: turn in takes it 45 yards runs right through the
- 15:46Speaker 5: heart of the Patriot defense. And he lances their heart
- 15:50Speaker 5: with what JSN does best.
- 15:53Speaker 6: He breaks away for a big six points, and the
- 15:57Speaker 6: Seahawks are a point away for tying.
- 16:00Speaker 3: This one up.
- 16:02Speaker 4: Yeah, this one's interesting. The more I look at it,
- 16:04Speaker 4: the more I try to understand what's going on. So
- 16:08Speaker 4: the offensive line looks like they might be running the screen.
- 16:11Speaker 4: The tackle's being locked on, especially on the backside. Makes
- 16:14Speaker 4: you think, all right, maybe they're not running the screen.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Maybe just the middle of the offensive line got beat.
- 16:18Speaker 4: Either way, all right, it's fourth and one. You're in
- 16:21Speaker 4: a clear running formation. You got Drew Locke, pivots, fakes
- 16:24Speaker 4: the handoff to the fullback, it looks like, flips his
- 16:27Speaker 4: hips around, and there are two to three defenders right
- 16:30Speaker 4: in his face. On the other side, you got JSN
- 16:32Speaker 4: lined up one-on-one on the outside with Christian Gonzalez, just
- 16:35Speaker 4: got paid. He reacts to the running back. Looks like
- 16:37Speaker 4: they're in cover two. He goes to the running back
- 16:39Speaker 4: right now. Running back runs to the flat. He got
- 16:40Speaker 4: some coverage. My question is, did JSN make an adjustment
- 16:44Speaker 4: or is this a route? Either way, him and Drew
- 16:46Speaker 4: Locke are on the same page. JSN gets five yards
- 16:48Speaker 4: up the field, turns around, you get him the football,
- 16:50Speaker 4: and this is all flick of the wrist from Drew Locke.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Flick of the wrist, get it to JSN, and now
- 16:54Speaker 4: he gets vertical. They say he ran a 4-5. Gameplay,
- 16:58Speaker 4: he's a 4-3, 4-4. Just gets up the field, turns
- 17:01Speaker 4: on the burners, and remind folks why he got paid.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, great throw by Drew. JSN does the rest.
- 17:09Speaker 2: It's hard to call someone like Jason sneaky fast, but
- 17:13Speaker 2: clearly it's deceptive to DBs that are supposed to be
- 17:15Speaker 2: faster than him, and yet he is constantly getting behind people,
- 17:18Speaker 2: running past them on all these kind of plays.
- 17:21Speaker 1: For me, big shout-out, though, to A.J. Barner and Eric
- 17:24Speaker 1: Saubert on this play.
- 17:25Speaker 5: A.J.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Barner runs his little drag, and he gets out and blocks.
- 17:28Speaker 2: He has that touchdown ceiling block. It's just enough of
- 17:30Speaker 2: the backside safety. He gets there. Eric Saubert, the linebacker
- 17:33Speaker 2: kind of follows him, or Barner might have flipped that.
- 17:36Speaker 2: But he comes back and makes a really heads-up play.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Don't get a block in the back.
- 17:39Speaker 5: Please.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Don't get a penalty. You just got the first down.
- 17:42Speaker 2: He lays off. Jason does the rest into the end zone.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Got to love it, man. I mean, every– I think
- 17:49Speaker 2: with Brian Fleury moving forward, that's such a good, cool
- 17:52Speaker 2: weapon to have. What are different ways can I get
- 17:54Speaker 2: this man the football?
- 17:55Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:56Speaker 2: From all different spots in Jason. When he gets the ball,
- 17:58Speaker 2: he does damage. The other play you want to look at,
- 18:01Speaker 2: this sealed the game. Josh Jobe picking off Drake May
- 18:04Speaker 2: in the end zone.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Shotgun snap. Looks to the end zone. Now he wants
- 18:08Speaker 3: to throw it up for grabs. He does.
- 18:10Speaker 1: It's intercepted.
- 18:11Speaker 5: Did he keep his toes in? Did he keep his
- 18:13Speaker 5: toes in? He did. It's intercepted in the end zone.
- 18:17Speaker 5: Holy catfish. The third pick of the night by the Seahawks.
- 18:23Speaker 5: And it's Josh Jobe. He ran a better route than
- 18:27Speaker 5: the receiver.
- 18:29Speaker 6: Tippy-toed on the end line, kept his feet in, and
- 18:33Speaker 6: keeps the Patriots out of the end zone. The coaches
- 18:37Speaker 6: are going absolutely nuts in the booth next to us.
- 18:41Speaker 4: Yeah, it looks like they're in man formation, or man defense,
- 18:45Speaker 4: excuse me. You got two receivers to the left of
- 18:48Speaker 4: Drake May. You got one receiver to the right, Iso.
- 18:52Speaker 4: You got Jobe against Collins. Where Collins messes up, is
- 18:55Speaker 4: he inside releases a goal route inside release. And that
- 18:59Speaker 4: allows Joe to be in great position. If you're going
- 19:01Speaker 4: to inside release, you got to widen that DV as
- 19:03Speaker 4: much as you can.
- 19:05Speaker 3: But Joe, he's really in okay position.
- 19:08Speaker 4: But if Drake can throw this football, step into it
- 19:10Speaker 4: and throw it, he's probably put in the back of
- 19:11Speaker 4: the end zone or only where Collins can get it.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Why is not able to do that? Mr.
- 19:16Speaker 4: D law beats to tackle gets in Drake's face. He's
- 19:19Speaker 4: not able to throw that football. It gets on his
- 19:20Speaker 4: back foot and lobs one up because Joe was in
- 19:23Speaker 4: great position and he's now able to play defense box
- 19:26Speaker 4: out the receiver make a play on the football get
- 19:29Speaker 4: two feet in this is just this is why i
- 19:31Speaker 4: wasn't obviously i was concerned a bit about the the
- 19:35Speaker 4: dbs being banged up but i knew the d-line was
- 19:37Speaker 4: gonna help him out like that's what happened all night
- 19:40Speaker 4: the d-line getting in drake's face and not allowing him
- 19:43Speaker 4: to step in the throws especially in the second half
- 19:45Speaker 4: first half was a bit of a struggle second half
- 19:46Speaker 4: they got things going this is just hey, one-on-one, let's
- 19:49Speaker 4: get it. My D-line is going to make you throw
- 19:52Speaker 4: a horrible pass to your receiver.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and I love Joe just on the finish, right?
- 19:55Speaker 2: You high point it. You get both feet in like
- 19:57Speaker 2: your receiver. Love seeing that. I love also, well, actually,
- 20:01Speaker 2: before I continue with Flowers, in that situation, would you
- 20:05Speaker 2: be having your tackles cut their bump? Was that interesting?
- 20:08Speaker 3: Yeah, that was interesting. And also, Was it 31? It
- 20:10Speaker 3: was short, yeah. Third and short. Drake lived to fight
- 20:14Speaker 3: another day.
- 20:15Speaker 4: If there's D-Law, if D-Law's right there, throw that thing
- 20:17Speaker 4: out the back of the end zone, kick a field goal.
- 20:19Speaker 4: I was getting ready for overtime saying, we're going to
- 20:21Speaker 4: be here until 2 a.m.
- 20:23Speaker 3: But it didn't happen that way. But, yeah, cutting that side,
- 20:25Speaker 3: that's interesting.
- 20:26Speaker 2: And D-Law, that's teach tape, defeating the cup, and just
- 20:29Speaker 2: being fundamentally sound.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Joe finishing the play.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Everything's sound in the secondary in terms of passing routes,
- 20:35Speaker 2: locking up. And also what I love, too, no one's
- 20:38Speaker 2: covering air. Everyone is on somebody. There's nothing there. So, Drake,
- 20:41Speaker 2: to your point, that pass can't get thrown.
- 20:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:44Speaker 2: It just cannot get thrown. But that's how good this
- 20:47Speaker 2: even is. They'll bait you into things and speed you
- 20:49Speaker 2: up and make you do things you didn't want to do.
- 20:51Speaker 2: That's what happened to Drake May there. And it was
- 20:53Speaker 2: all she wrote for the Patriots. Same fate they suffered
- 20:57Speaker 2: in the Super Bowl bump. And then we got to
- 20:59Speaker 2: see our favorite formation, victory formation.
- 21:03Speaker 6: Here comes the Seahawks offense onto the field and the
- 21:06Speaker 6: Vikings defense trudging out there. knowing that one kneel down
- 21:12Speaker 6: and the seahawks are going to wind the clock down and.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Win this one it's the victory formation on hawk talk.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Man wasn't like i said always pretty but it's a
- 21:20Speaker 2: season opener and the hawks did what they had to
- 21:22Speaker 2: do and they made tons of plays and that's the
- 21:24Speaker 2: kind of football we love to see around this team
- 21:26Speaker 2: around this parts you know i'm saying with coach mcdonald
- 21:29Speaker 2: that's how they want to play defensive football and then
- 21:31Speaker 2: in the second half seahawks have now won 11 straight
- 21:33Speaker 2: games a franchise record so they're on they're on a
- 21:36Speaker 2: great start to the 2026.
- 21:36Speaker 4: Season Three sacks, three interceptions, nine TFL, six passes defended,
- 21:42Speaker 4: and five quarterback hits. Not bad for this defense, and
- 21:45Speaker 4: great game by the secondary. Guys were banged up. You
- 21:48Speaker 4: got Pritchett with an interception. You got Joe with an interception.
- 21:51Speaker 4: There's a general, Jay Love, back there with an interception.
- 21:54Speaker 4: It looked good, man. And I know it started off bad.
- 21:57Speaker 4: Sam Donald's hurt, but it doesn't look serious. So thank you,
- 22:01Speaker 4: football gods, for that one.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Yep, we'll continue to stay posted on CIS.com and all
- 22:05Speaker 2: the channels for status updates with sam darnold's injury but
- 22:08Speaker 2: it's looking like we avoided a serious injury like you
- 22:10Speaker 2: said so praise the football gods on that one and
- 22:13Speaker 2: if drew law continues to play i'm excited to see
- 22:15Speaker 2: what he can do to this team and help and
- 22:16Speaker 2: just kind of clean up that operation and just continue
- 22:19Speaker 2: to make plays and be the guy that we know
- 22:20Speaker 2: he can be i'm also excited to see what jadarian
- 22:22Speaker 2: price yeah what can he do moving forward as a
- 22:24Speaker 2: unit i think he's a guy that's going to have
- 22:26Speaker 2: some 100 yard games in this future absolutely so it's
- 22:30Speaker 2: uh it's kind of nice obviously you know Playing a
- 22:33Speaker 2: game on a Wednesday feels like a normal week. The Thursday,
- 22:36Speaker 2: it's really hard on the turnaround, right? Not saying these
- 22:38Speaker 2: guys are fresh. They went through a long training camp. But, like,
- 22:41Speaker 2: to have this game not be off for a short week,
- 22:43Speaker 2: and now you get an extended amount. That's huge for
- 22:46Speaker 2: this team, whether it could happen with injury-wise and just
- 22:48Speaker 2: getting healthy.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Heal up.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Enjoy it. Get ready to go, man. I'm excited.
- 22:53Speaker 4: The season is off to a great one. Last time
- 22:55Speaker 4: this year, we were 0-1 and won a Super Bowl championship.
- 22:59Speaker 4: We're flipping it 1-0 on the quest for two.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Absolutely. It was fun. Thanks for hanging out with us.
- 23:04Speaker 2: We'll be back with you next Thursday previewing the Arizona Cardinals,
- 23:07Speaker 2: the Seahawks' next opponent.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Until then, he's Michael Bumpus. I'm Nassif Chobi. This has
- 23:12Speaker 1: been Hawk Talk.
