Transcript
- 0:07Hey there. Welcome to another mental health
- 0:10moment from the Life Live Better podcast.
- 0:12This is a place where we take just a couple of minutes to care
- 0:14for our minds. I'm Paula.
- 0:16And today, we're talking about something that might be a
- 0:19surprise and it might be kind of uncomfortable to acknowledge.
- 0:25And that is that healing is not always peaceful.
- 0:30Somewhere along the way, most of us were given this idea that
- 0:33healing should be calm and quiet and maybe even a little
- 0:38inspiring. Like once we start doing the
- 0:40right things for our mental health, every single day, we
- 0:44should feel a little lighter. But unfortunately, that's not
- 0:48always how it works. In fact, sometimes healing feels
- 0:53uncomfortable, and it can get messy.
- 0:56It can even feel worse before it feels better, because healing
- 1:01asks us to look at things that we have spent a very long time
- 1:04avoiding. Those old wounds, that
- 1:07unresolved pain, those patterns that used to protect us but
- 1:11aren't serving us anymore. And once we start to face those
- 1:15things, it can start bringing up emotions we did not expect.
- 1:21Emotions like anger and sadness and grief and even confusion.
- 1:25And that doesn't mean that we're doing it wrong.
- 1:27It probably means we're doing it right, actually.
- 1:32Healing isn't about bypassing the pain, unfortunately.
- 1:35It's about moving through it. There's a lot of loss that comes
- 1:40with healing. Letting go of old coping
- 1:42strategies or old identities and even in unhealthy relationships
- 1:48that don't fit anymore. And loss, even when it's
- 1:53healthy, can feel heavy. So if you find yourself in a
- 1:58season where you're doing all the work, you're going to
- 2:00counseling, you're setting boundaries, you're becoming more
- 2:03aware, you're doing all the things we talk about here, but
- 2:06you don't feel peaceful yet, I want you to hear this.
- 2:11Peace is not always the starting point of healing.
- 2:15Sometimes, most of the time, it's a result of staying in the
- 2:20process. So give yourself permission to
- 2:23be in the middle of it, to not have it all figured out, to feel
- 2:28both growth and discomfort at the same time.
- 2:32Because healing isn't always quiet, but it is always
- 2:36meaningful. And over time, as you continue
- 2:40to show up for yourself, that sense of peace that you're
- 2:43looking for will find you the Life Live Better podcast.
- 2:48Thank you for joining us for this mental health moment.
- 2:51And until next time, take care of your mind because it's the
- 2:54only one you've got. And don't forget that knowledge
- 2:57leads to a life lived better.
