- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: next.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning. Thank you
- 0:12Speaker 1: for joining us here today, and we do have a
- 0:15Speaker 1: very special guest joining us later after 9 a.m. She's
- 0:19Speaker 1: a Singaporean DJ that made her debut at Tomorrowland Belgium.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I can't wait to tell you more during the show
- 0:25Speaker 1: and more prizes from Dyson too. Singapore's number one hit
- 0:28Speaker 1: music station.
- 0:31Speaker 1: 6:19 on a Tuesday, 4th of August. We are 3
- 0:35Speaker 1: days away to Singapore against Indonesia at the Jalan Besar Stadium,
- 0:39Speaker 1: and of course, on Sunday, it's National Day itself. Wherever
- 0:43Speaker 1: you're going to be enjoying the parade from. I hope
- 0:46Speaker 1: you have fun with your friends and family. But that said,
- 0:48Speaker 1: here's a belated thank you to our friends over at
- 0:52Speaker 1: Sembawang Central. I was with you guys.
- 0:56Speaker 1: On Sunday for your National Day Carnival, which was in
- 1:00Speaker 1: conjunction with the Passion Arts Festival for you over at
- 1:03Speaker 1: the Sembawang Hardcourt area next to Sun Plaza. Had loads
- 1:07Speaker 1: of fun with Irong from Yunan, and earlier that morning
- 1:12Speaker 1: was hosting for Adidas Singapore with the all-new Singapore Home
- 1:16Speaker 1: and Away Kit launch, proudly brought to you in.
- 1:19Speaker 1: In conjunction with Adidas as well as the Football Association
- 1:21Speaker 1: of Singapore, and then the day before as well, hosting
- 1:25Speaker 1: preview to over at National Day. So I thought to myself, OK,
- 1:28Speaker 1: you know what? Since I have nothing on on Monday,
- 1:31Speaker 1: just take a day break to rest my mind, my body,
- 1:34Speaker 1: and my throat, especially. Big weekend coming up. And I
- 1:37Speaker 1: was thinking, OK, let's just sleep into whatever time I
- 1:41Speaker 1: wake up at about maybe say 8:50 a.m. on a
- 1:45Speaker 1: random Monday morning and
- 1:50Speaker 1: Drilling outside my house, they were doing the renovations for
- 1:54Speaker 1: our stairs, the flights of stairs going up 12 stories
- 1:57Speaker 1: of my block, so there you go. Had to deal
- 2:00Speaker 1: with it, but given how maybe I feel as if
- 2:03Speaker 1: I have patience at a whole new level, I felt
- 2:07Speaker 1: like that meme saying this is fine, but the house
- 2:10Speaker 1: is on fire, the dog having coffee, right? But yeah,
- 2:13Speaker 1: that was my day yesterday. So, in terms of rest,
- 2:17Speaker 1: I got a few minutes in.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Not as much as I want to, but it's OK.
- 2:21Speaker 1: You know what, we carry on. today being Tuesday. Sonia's
- 2:24Speaker 1: coming back from a coffee break in just a while
- 2:26Speaker 1: here on the shock circuit. More things to be won
- 2:29Speaker 1: here on our show, and I just wanna give you
- 2:32Speaker 1: a heads up. If you haven't seen our Instagram post
- 2:35Speaker 1: yet for NDP actual day tickets, today is your final
- 2:40Speaker 1: day to get your comments in. 4th of August, a Tuesday,
- 2:43Speaker 1: and um, I finally have my coffee. I'm a human
- 2:46Speaker 1: being now.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I was gonna say for more schools, it's gonna
- 2:50Speaker 1: feel like a 4 day work week. Uh, yeah, it's a,
- 2:53Speaker 1: it's a short week, right, because I'm assuming on Friday.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Maybe on Friday because they're having all the National Day celebrations.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Then next Monday, it's off in lie. It's a public
- 3:04Speaker 1: holiday in Liu, so we get to enjoy a long weekend.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I'm actually going to Batam for a day on Monday,
- 3:11Speaker 1: on Monday because there was a
- 3:13Speaker 1: Uh, a paddle court that just opened there, like a
- 3:16Speaker 1: facility that just a wellness facility that just opened there.
- 3:20Speaker 1: So they have more than just a paddle court. So
- 3:22Speaker 1: I'm guessing they have plunges, they have like recovery, they
- 3:25Speaker 1: have like a whole like lunch buffet thing and all that.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So I'm like kind of excited to go. So are
- 3:30Speaker 1: you taking the ferry or are you taking the propeller plane? Ferry, ferry.
- 3:34Speaker 1: What propeller plane? They got this new seaplane, right, that
- 3:36Speaker 1: goes to half the time we didn't.
- 3:41Speaker 1: into that. I mean, I didn't even hear about it,
- 3:43Speaker 1: to be honest. I mean, I might have seen it
- 3:45Speaker 1: in the news once, but I don't know whether how
- 3:48Speaker 1: many propeller planes seaplanes they have. Ah, OK, I just, uh,
- 3:53Speaker 1: Googled Batam seaplane. Apparently it's called Airfish. Oh, OK, I
- 3:58Speaker 1: didn't hear about this by ST Engineering. To be honest,
- 4:02Speaker 1: I don't even know who booked the, the ferry tickets.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I mean, I'm, I'm just a baby. I'm just gonna
- 4:07Speaker 1: show up.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I don't know. I just know that there's a plan.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Could be a sampan for you. Everyone else take the ferry.
- 4:16Speaker 1: They make me do the sampan. It's a good workout,
- 4:19Speaker 1: you know, make a good video. OK, so given how
- 4:22Speaker 1: we are 5 days away to National Day Parade and
- 4:25Speaker 1: National Day here in Singapore, uh, we have Prime Minister
- 4:28Speaker 1: Lawrence Wong's National Day message. OK, not rally. Yeah, yeah,
- 4:33Speaker 1: rally is usually after, right? Yeah, yeah, so message is
- 4:36Speaker 1: a bit of a tease.
- 4:37Speaker 1: to what we can expect to what he might say
- 4:39Speaker 1: over National Day rally. It will be happening 8th of
- 4:43Speaker 1: August 6:45 p.m. It will air on CNN and CNA 938. OK,
- 4:49Speaker 1: so usually this is much shorter. It's just a quick address, right? Yeah,
- 4:53Speaker 1: if I'm not wrong, delivering the address in Bahasa Malayu
- 4:58Speaker 1: will be acting Minister in charge of Muslim Affairs and
- 5:01Speaker 1: Senior Minister of State for Defense, Mr. Zaki Mohammad, and
- 5:04Speaker 1: I think for
- 5:05Speaker 1: Mandarin, it's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Gan Kim Yong, and for Tamil, it's Minister of State
- 5:12Speaker 1: for Culture, Community and Youth and Manpower, Mr. Dinesh Vasudas. OK,
- 5:17Speaker 1: so it's gonna be a weekend full of activities, full
- 5:20Speaker 1: of things to look forward to, yeah, but I think
- 5:23Speaker 1: there's always going to be a portion of Singaporeans who
- 5:25Speaker 1: will fly out over this weekend. Oh yes, 100%. It's
- 5:28Speaker 1: going to be a very busy weekend for our friends
- 5:31Speaker 1: over in Bangkok in um.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Where else? Bali, I mean, it's the usual Bangkok, Bali, Batam,
- 5:39Speaker 1: Phuket Bintan, Johor Bahru. So to our friends over at ICA,
- 5:45Speaker 1: we're sending you all the love. Yeah, thank you for
- 5:48Speaker 1: working during the long weekend. They have put out advisories
- 5:50Speaker 1: saying please expect longer traveling times for sure, as you should,
- 5:54Speaker 1: so don't lose patience. Just join the queue.
- 5:57Speaker 1: And do it in an orderly fashion. And I guess
- 6:00Speaker 1: just find the right time to leave like as early
- 6:02Speaker 1: as possible, you know. OK, so on that note, we're
- 6:05Speaker 1: going to open up phone lines in just a bit.
- 6:07Speaker 1: We would love to take your dedication to your song requests.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Now hello. Hi. Hi, what's your name? Hi, Yowei, which
- 6:14Speaker 1: school are you from? Kuo Chen Primary. OK, before you
- 6:19Speaker 1: give a shout out, may I know what
- 6:22Speaker 1: song you like to hear? Uh, Road Ahead. Of course,
- 6:25Speaker 1: it has to be Road Ahead by Lin Ying and Coh,
- 6:28Speaker 1: but what is Swao Cheng Primary School doing for the, um,
- 6:32Speaker 1: NDP celebrations? Um, they brought us to the show. OK.
- 6:36Speaker 1: And any half days for you? Any, uh, dressing up
- 6:39Speaker 1: or celebrations on Friday? Uh, yes, you're right. OK, I
- 6:42Speaker 1: can't wait to see the pictures. In the meantime, you
- 6:44Speaker 1: enjoy the track and have a.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Great day at school. OK, proving to be a very
- 6:48Speaker 1: eventful Tuesday morning here on our show with open inverted
- 6:51Speaker 1: commas or eventful. Open inverted commas for sure, right? And
- 6:55Speaker 1: now this one I'm just speculating and, you know, adding
- 6:58Speaker 1: all to the fire, right? What's going to happen to
- 7:00Speaker 1: the satay? Oh man on board Singapore business class or
- 7:04Speaker 1: Singapore Airlines. OK, I don't know about you, and I
- 7:07Speaker 1: don't know if I speak for most Singaporeans, but
- 7:11Speaker 1: I felt quite defensive when I saw that when I
- 7:13Speaker 1: saw that article. Uh, Singapore Airlines, we love you. Please
- 7:16Speaker 1: don't cancel it, to be honest, the satay is very good. OK,
- 7:21Speaker 1: so let's give you the breakdown of why we're talking
- 7:23Speaker 1: about the Singapore Airlines satay. So apparently a 44-year old
- 7:27Speaker 1: woman by the name of Briony Smith, OK, and she
- 7:32Speaker 1: was a child pop star in the past. Apparently she's
- 7:34Speaker 1: gone platinum in Thailand. OK, well done. So this happened
- 7:38Speaker 1: to her in 2024 and
- 7:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest with you. Given what we do
- 7:44Speaker 1: for a living, where our voice is the moneymaker, right? Yeah,
- 7:48Speaker 1: I'm a little bit on the fence about this one,
- 7:50Speaker 1: but the one very important question people are asking is
- 7:53Speaker 1: how did you swallow a 3.8 centimeter wooden splinter? So
- 7:58Speaker 1: she was having the satay on board Singapore business class
- 8:01Speaker 1: and all that, and again, it's not like
- 8:05Speaker 1: A 6 cm or 7 cm stick where you're able
- 8:08Speaker 1: to feel it, but 3.8 centimeters where it's slightly short,
- 8:13Speaker 1: but still if you were to chew, you can feel
- 8:15Speaker 1: something is there but I think she swallowed it and
- 8:18Speaker 1: apparently it caused the pain, choking. There was violent coughing.
- 8:23Speaker 1: She was able to cough it out and get it out,
- 8:25Speaker 1: but her ENT also.
- 8:28Speaker 1: scarring which is um in relation to something that got
- 8:31Speaker 1: stuck in the throat. So ever since then, she found
- 8:35Speaker 1: she had pain, raspiness and discomfort when it's speaking or singing.
- 8:40Speaker 1: So given how she's a yoga teacher and she uses
- 8:42Speaker 1: her voice a lot now, I mean, there's a bit
- 8:44Speaker 1: of a problem there if it's really causing her a
- 8:46Speaker 1: lot of distress.
- 8:48Speaker 1: But again, the question and what people in the comment
- 8:51Speaker 1: section are saying is how do you swallow a 3.8
- 8:53Speaker 1: centimeter wooden splinter? Yeah, I think they were in good
- 9:02Speaker 1: or I don't know. I'm sure is gonna look into it, right?
- 9:05Speaker 1: Like if not, why would she be so brave to
- 9:06Speaker 1: come out here and talk about it like that? What
- 9:09Speaker 1: do you think?
- 9:10Speaker 1: It can't be so one-dimensional, right? I think they will
- 9:12Speaker 1: definitely go and investigate the best of your ability. What
- 9:18Speaker 1: is a good and what is bad? Like a, a,
- 9:21Speaker 1: a stick, for example, that isn't fragile or has splinters, maybe, maybe.
- 9:27Speaker 1: But so far, I mean, OK, I'm just trying to
- 9:29Speaker 1: see both sides here because I've been a big fan
- 9:33Speaker 1: of the satay appetizer for a very long time.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I've never once come across a satistic with splinters, at
- 9:40Speaker 1: least in my experience, OK, not, not to, not to
- 9:43Speaker 1: defend our nation's airline or what lah, OK. So I'm
- 9:46Speaker 1: trying to find whether there have been other cases of
- 9:50Speaker 1: people choking on the satay stick. So I googled Singapore
- 9:54Speaker 1: Airlines satay incidents. All that's appearing now is this lady,
- 9:58Speaker 1: is this lady. Yeah, so I mean, like I said,
- 10:01Speaker 1: I'm trying to see both sides.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Here, maybe her statistic was, you know, something wrong with
- 10:05Speaker 1: it or it was faulty or what, like, you know,
- 10:08Speaker 1: it had splinters. But then again, I think most people
- 10:11Speaker 1: in the comment section are saying like how on earth
- 10:13Speaker 1: did you let that happen to yourself? I think that
- 10:15Speaker 1: is the sentiment. So I hope we get answers really soon,
- 10:18Speaker 1: but Singapore Airlines can't comment as of yet because this
- 10:21Speaker 1: case is under investigation. Yes, yes, but for what it's worth,
- 10:24Speaker 1: it's pretty delicious. And if this is the only.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Incident we had involving the satay. Please don't cancel it. No, no,
- 10:30Speaker 1: please don't take it away. Don't take it away. It's
- 10:32Speaker 1: like my favorite. And I think, um, based on experience
- 10:36Speaker 1: when I've actually sat around people who are like flying
- 10:39Speaker 1: back to Singapore and they've never maybe tried this satay before,
- 10:42Speaker 1: like I've actually heard people commenting like, wow, this is good,
- 10:45Speaker 1: you know, because they've never tried satay before. So I
- 10:47Speaker 1: think for Sonia and I we're holding off all the
- 10:49Speaker 1: roasts and all that until we get more details and the,
- 10:52Speaker 1: the conclusion.
- 10:54Speaker 1: To this sadistic fiasco. I wasn't roast. I'm I'm section.
- 11:01Speaker 1: I gotta say some Singaporeans have a very strong sense
- 11:03Speaker 1: of wit and humor. Yeah, only in the comment section. Now,
- 11:07Speaker 1: I might have categorized this under food news, but it's
- 11:10Speaker 1: also um a place that I've hung out at more
- 11:14Speaker 1: than 5 times, more than 5 times, OK. So it's
- 11:17Speaker 1: not just food news, it's almost sentimental in a way.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Because I've been there a number of times to get
- 11:22Speaker 1: ready for a gig and um to wait around with friends,
- 11:26Speaker 1: and we've had some deep talks there as well.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Which Starbucks is this? No, you're getting close. It isn't
- 11:33Speaker 1: a Starbucks, but it's a cafe with coffee and, you know,
- 11:37Speaker 1: other options. I think they've got like other types of
- 11:40Speaker 1: drinks also. I can't remember if I had wine there before.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I think I did. Yeah, I think I did. Um,
- 11:45Speaker 1: this is not a place that we've been to together before,
- 11:48Speaker 1: but it is quite a central area and unfortunately, they're
- 11:52Speaker 1: closing after 5 years. I'm gonna tell you.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Which cafe this is in a few minutes. You can
- 11:58Speaker 1: try and take a guess. I don't think you'll get there,
- 12:01Speaker 1: but you can try. You said cafe and then they
- 12:03Speaker 1: serve wine as well. So is it a day and
- 12:05Speaker 1: night thing? They, I don't, they don't open that late,
- 12:08Speaker 1: but I'm pretty sure I was drinking. Yeah. I mean,
- 12:10Speaker 1: it was a weekend and you know, we had coffee
- 12:12Speaker 1: and wine, so I'm the worst person for outdoors, so
- 12:13Speaker 1: I wouldn't know. OK, I'll tell you which cafe is
- 12:20Speaker 1: closing after 5 years. Like I said earlier.
- 12:23Speaker 1: This particular place that um I don't think Joakim and
- 12:25Speaker 1: I have been there together before, but I've had many
- 12:27Speaker 1: fond memories at this cafe, mainly because I had a
- 12:31Speaker 1: friend that used to work there, or I have a
- 12:34Speaker 1: friend that used to work there a long time ago,
- 12:36Speaker 1: and he would actually, you know, even after he stopped
- 12:38Speaker 1: working there, he invited us to go over and like
- 12:40Speaker 1: he would get like a bit of a staff discount
- 12:43Speaker 1: or some treats and stuff and the food and the drinks, coffee,
- 12:46Speaker 1: if I'm not wrong, they had oysters and pasta and wine.
- 12:48Speaker 1: It was actually really good.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Taking you to Chimes right now, this place called Dough Cafe.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I don't know if you've ever seen it or if
- 12:56Speaker 1: you go to Chimes often.
- 12:57Speaker 1: But dough is the one that is a very Scandinavian look,
- 13:02Speaker 1: like very minimalistic. It's brown and earth tones, and then
- 13:05Speaker 1: inside it's like cream and white and light brown. I'm
- 13:08Speaker 1: just chuckling because the last time I was at Chimes
- 13:10Speaker 1: was a few weeks ago. I was going to a cafe? Yeah,
- 13:14Speaker 1: you went to watch football. England against Argentina, yeah. So unfortunately,
- 13:18Speaker 1: after 5 years, and I think they've got a lot
- 13:21Speaker 1: of regular customers there.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Dough Cafe at Chimes is officially closing. Their last day
- 13:26Speaker 1: is on the 16th of August. So if you have
- 13:28Speaker 1: any like great memories there and if you go there often,
- 13:31Speaker 1: please go pay them a visit before they close. It's
- 13:34Speaker 1: quite sad because I thought that they were one of
- 13:36Speaker 1: the main cafes of Chimes. Like people, when you search
- 13:41Speaker 1: up cafes around the area, do will show up for sure.
- 13:44Speaker 1: So you said they were operating for at least 5 years,
- 13:46Speaker 1: 5 years.
- 13:47Speaker 1: They, prior to this, I think they actually competed in
- 13:51Speaker 1: the Singapore National Barista and Brewers Cup championships, and their
- 13:55Speaker 1: barista actually emerged as the champion in 2026. Wait, COVID. Yeah, 2021, 2021. Yeah. So, hey, um,
- 14:06Speaker 1: I think a lot of people have expressed collective disappointment because,
- 14:09Speaker 1: because we love dough.
- 14:11Speaker 1: And if there's any hope at all, I think they
- 14:14Speaker 1: will return. I think they will find a way to return. Yeah, goodbye.
- 14:16Speaker 1: It seems a bit, I would say it, it seems
- 14:26Speaker 1: a bit open-ended. I hope, I hope. I mean, it's
- 14:29Speaker 1: not like we're closing goodbye, shut down forever.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I don't think any business ever says that in case
- 14:35Speaker 1: you want to open up again next time. They're gonna
- 14:37Speaker 1: keep you guessing. And if they manage to retain the
- 14:40Speaker 1: champ in the barista championships, you know, I'm sure no
- 14:44Speaker 1: problems at all to open a cafe again. This could
- 14:46Speaker 1: be a lady you say goodbye, but they're opening over
- 14:50Speaker 1: at the Lao Pasar area. I'm not wrong.
- 14:52Speaker 1: You, you never know. So, all the best dough. I
- 14:54Speaker 1: really hope to see you again soon. One of my
- 14:57Speaker 1: favorite places in the Chimes area. All the best dough dough,
- 15:01Speaker 1: but it was meant to, pun intended. Sonny and Joeim
- 15:04Speaker 1: here with you. Coming up right after 8, we're going
- 15:06Speaker 1: to open up the phone lines. This time around, you
- 15:09Speaker 1: do not want to miss this prize, OK? So we
- 15:13Speaker 1: just started this yesterday when you were on MC. Um,
- 15:15Speaker 1: our friends over at Dyson, they're actually giving you a fan.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Hey, it's awesome. I have 2 already currently. Oh, it's,
- 15:23Speaker 1: it's the one we have. Yes. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, um,
- 15:27Speaker 1: they have a new Singapore exclusive Hush jet mini Cool
- 15:30Speaker 1: fan in a beautiful Carnelian sky colorway. So it's kind
- 15:34Speaker 1: of like full red with um details in sky and
- 15:38Speaker 1: it weighs only 20.
- 15:39Speaker 1: 12 g pocket sized and with the heat and the
- 15:42Speaker 1: humidity nowadays, you need it, you need it. It's worth
- 15:45Speaker 1: almost $150. Perfect for National Day. If you're coming to
- 15:50Speaker 1: the stadium for the show, you can carry it with
- 15:52Speaker 1: you as you wait to go in the stadium. I mean,
- 15:55Speaker 1: provided you, you know, win it today and collect it
- 15:57Speaker 1: in time.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Yeah, can I say I use it over the weekend.
- 16:01Speaker 1: It is powerful. It is. It cooled me and it
- 16:04Speaker 1: kind of helped me evaporate some drops of perspiration that
- 16:07Speaker 1: I have as well. It's drops, dude, for you it's
- 16:09Speaker 1: like a river. I mean, you are not I've been there.
- 16:12Speaker 1: I've seen it. Thank you. Yeah I accidentally touched your
- 16:14Speaker 1: shirt before, so it's like.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I've never, I've never found myself running away so fast.
- 16:21Speaker 1: And whenever Sonia accidentally touches my shirt drenched with perspiration, right,
- 16:25Speaker 1: I always hear the loudest.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Scree. No, it's facts though, OK, but hey, this could
- 16:34Speaker 1: help you beat the heat a little bit, right? And
- 16:37Speaker 1: because both of us are such fans, what was your
- 16:39Speaker 1: initial color, ha ha, pun intended, what was the initial
- 16:41Speaker 1: color that you had, because this is your second one, right? Yeah,
- 16:43Speaker 1: so the initial color was the, the lighter.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Slightly beige, OK, they call it stone blush. Oh, right,
- 16:50Speaker 1: you picked the blush one, same as me. What? You,
- 16:53Speaker 1: you chose that color. Honestly, I think that was the
- 16:55Speaker 1: only one available because this was going off the shelves
- 16:57Speaker 1: like hotcakes. Yeah, it's true. Like the moment they launched it, um,
- 17:00Speaker 1: it got sold out really fast. Yeah, so I tried
- 17:02Speaker 1: going for the ink and cobalt one. Yeah, sold out. Oh,
- 17:06Speaker 1: no wonder I never see you carry the pink one.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Now you can carry the Carnelian red one. Yeah, it
- 17:10Speaker 1: looks better for you. OK, but regardless.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Whether or not it's for National Day or for anything
- 17:16Speaker 1: at all. It could be your next picnic, it could
- 17:18Speaker 1: be even in your office or while you're walking around
- 17:20Speaker 1: for lunch or getting a coffee. You need this for sure.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Worth about $150. Visit their Instagram page, Dyson_SG. Your chance
- 17:28Speaker 1: to win in just a bit. Forgive my language here, Sonia,
- 17:32Speaker 1: but I guess maybe for this situation, I, I want
- 17:34Speaker 1: to ask people here on 987, even you as well,
- 17:37Speaker 1: am I the a-hole here? OK, tell us. OK, are
- 17:40Speaker 1: you ready?
- 17:41Speaker 1: So we, we know that in Singapore we have this
- 17:44Speaker 1: whole crow and pigeon problem, right? Where it's overpopulated, they
- 17:49Speaker 1: are ransacking our hawkers, they're flying here and there, sometimes
- 17:53Speaker 1: some are even
- 17:54Speaker 1: I don't want to use the word attack humans, but
- 17:57Speaker 1: because we are quite close to their nests and all that,
- 18:00Speaker 1: they might defend the nest or think that we are
- 18:02Speaker 1: a threat to the nest and they are young and
- 18:04Speaker 1: their offspring. But the thing is our industries here in
- 18:09Speaker 1: Singapore have been doing their best to stop people from
- 18:12Speaker 1: feeding the birds. Yeah, yeah, there's a problem out there,
- 18:15Speaker 1: and somehow, and again not pointing fingers at anyone, la,
- 18:19Speaker 1: I feel people in the Merdeka or pioneer generation.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Because they're so used to doing it already as a
- 18:25Speaker 1: way to combat loneliness or they want to have good karma, they,
- 18:29Speaker 1: they feel that be kind to animals or be kind
- 18:31Speaker 1: to birds situation, they will still do it and because
- 18:36Speaker 1: of that, it's causing like lots of other problems for
- 18:40Speaker 1: other residents around the area. So over at the Bishan area, OK,
- 18:44Speaker 1: and this happens every morning.
- 18:46Speaker 1: When I wake up at 4:45 a.m., the crows are
- 18:49Speaker 1: calling already. They, they are like all the time or
- 18:52Speaker 1: is it a.m. So, um, because I think it's like seasonal,
- 18:56Speaker 1: you know. No, it seems to happen every day. The
- 18:59Speaker 1: block in front of me and if you live around
- 19:01Speaker 1: the Bishan Ridges area, the new BTO that just launched,
- 19:04Speaker 1: you know the trees in front of you. You can
- 19:06Speaker 1: hear them. They're loud and proud, I guess, I dare say.
- 19:10Speaker 1: But I seem to realize every morning when I take
- 19:14Speaker 1: the taxi or the Grab to work and I pass
- 19:17Speaker 1: by Bishan CC, right, there's this little walkway where I
- 19:22Speaker 1: believe it was dark previously. There will be this one
- 19:25Speaker 1: uncle and I'll see him throwing rice from a bag
- 19:29Speaker 1: at 5 in the morning to feed the crows, and
- 19:31Speaker 1: the crows know, so they are flying there all the
- 19:34Speaker 1: time and you know they're so intelligent, right.
- 19:36Speaker 1: I think by now they know that, OK, this is,
- 19:38Speaker 1: they've identified this is breakfast time, yeah, and they are
- 19:41Speaker 1: gathering there for their breakfast, so to say. So there
- 19:45Speaker 1: was one morning, and this happened, I think 2 or
- 19:47Speaker 1: 3 weeks ago. I was fed up, you know, I
- 19:49Speaker 1: just wound the window down as my car was moving.
- 19:52Speaker 1: I shouted, Oi, don't feed the birds la. The uncle
- 19:55Speaker 1: heard my voice and ran away. Oh, is it? Yeah,
- 19:57Speaker 1: and I don't know why from that day on, right,
- 20:00Speaker 1: maybe someone caught my voice on CCTV or what.
- 20:03Speaker 1: You didn't report it. You didn't. I, I texted like
- 20:07Speaker 1: the Bishan CC number or whatsoever, and they said, OK,
- 20:10Speaker 1: we will investigate. They will check the CCTV. Maybe they
- 20:13Speaker 1: found something because from then on, right, that place isn't
- 20:16Speaker 1: so dark anymore. The lights are turned on. Yes, so
- 20:19Speaker 1: it could be a deterrent for the uncle, but who,
- 20:22Speaker 1: who's to say he's not in other areas here in
- 20:23Speaker 1: Singapore leeing the birds? But here's the thing like I,
- 20:26Speaker 1: I feel.
- 20:27Speaker 1: So much empathy, like sympathy for them because this could
- 20:31Speaker 1: be their purpose, you know, of the day, and I'm
- 20:33Speaker 1: not saying that it's your fault, it's not, because the,
- 20:36Speaker 1: the feeding bird thing causes other problems. These birds, you know,
- 20:40Speaker 1: poop everywhere, they, they populate more, it's, it's problematic. So
- 20:44Speaker 1: here's the thing, I know for a fact that if
- 20:47Speaker 1: I was to have done this on TikTok where I
- 20:49Speaker 1: post a video of my opinions, right?
- 20:51Speaker 1: There'll be half the comments saying, oh yeah, joking, what
- 20:54Speaker 1: you did is right, you know, at least you let
- 20:55Speaker 1: them know. On the other end, people would say, Hey,
- 20:59Speaker 1: mind your own business, lah. Let people live, you know
- 21:02Speaker 1: what I mean? No, no, it's, it's true. It's happening
- 21:04Speaker 1: on social media. So was I the a hole here
- 21:07Speaker 1: for like telling the Bishan CC people, hey, you know,
- 21:10Speaker 1: there's something happening here, please go and check. I don't
- 21:13Speaker 1: think that you were, I think you did the right
- 21:16Speaker 1: thing because you're kind of looking out for, you know, the,
- 21:19Speaker 1: the neighborhood, right? But in a way.
- 21:22Speaker 1: I just, I, I also understand the feeling of loneliness
- 21:25Speaker 1: from the elderly point of view. Yes, I cannot, I
- 21:28Speaker 1: cannot believe this. I feel bad. I say that the
- 21:35Speaker 1: uncle is so nice, you know, I feel so bad.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I actually feel bad because the uncle, you never know. I, I,
- 21:40Speaker 1: I'm buying into your statements that he could be combating
- 21:43Speaker 1: loneliness and all that. I, I do feel that in
- 21:48Speaker 1: Singapore we've developed an unfortunate because of certain
- 21:53Speaker 1: Some citizen journalism websites, right? We've developed a culture of
- 21:58Speaker 1: just secretly taking a video or a picture and then
- 22:01Speaker 1: submitting it, you know, with their faces and all that.
- 22:04Speaker 1: People do that, OK. At least you didn't. You tried
- 22:07Speaker 1: to tell him first, like, hey, stop feeding the birds.
- 22:09Speaker 1: You tried to tell him, then you just did it
- 22:11Speaker 1: via the right channels instead of just naming and shaming
- 22:14Speaker 1: him on social media or sending it into citizens.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Citizen journalism, which I actually don't like that habit of
- 22:19Speaker 1: some netizens and Singaporeans here, because, you know, if you
- 22:23Speaker 1: see something that's going down that you feel is wrong,
- 22:25Speaker 1: I feel like the first course of action is to
- 22:27Speaker 1: tell the person first, like, hey, I don't think you
- 22:29Speaker 1: should be doing this. Then if that person is defensive
- 22:32Speaker 1: or violent or reactive, then you take the next step
- 22:35Speaker 1: and report. Don't just take the photo silently and sneakily.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Upload onto citizen journalism to get $50 you know what
- 22:40Speaker 1: I mean? Yeah, you do, I do. Yeah, yeah, do
- 22:42Speaker 1: it for 669-11987 or you can WhatsApp us at 90050987. Again,
- 22:52Speaker 1: if you do like your answer, we're gonna cool you
- 22:54Speaker 1: off from the heat and humidity here in Singapore with
- 22:57Speaker 1: your new Dyson hush jet fan.
- 23:00Speaker 1: And what what's the official color again? Carnelian sky. Carnelian sky.
- 23:05Speaker 1: So it's, it's a Singapore exclusive, and I have a
- 23:08Speaker 1: feeling that it's going to be very difficult to get.
- 23:10Speaker 1: So I've seen it in person already. It's like a
- 23:13Speaker 1: deep Carnelian red with, you know, hints of sky, I guess.
- 23:19Speaker 1: It's very pretty. It's very pretty, but just in time
- 23:21Speaker 1: for our nation's birthday. You know, I'm trying to think
- 23:23Speaker 1: of a very good question here. Help me out. Should
- 23:26Speaker 1: I do this pertaining to me or?
- 23:28Speaker 1: Should I ask whether would you do the same like it,
- 23:32Speaker 1: I guess the question is, um, um, will you report
- 23:35Speaker 1: something if you see that something's amiss out there or
- 23:39Speaker 1: something is off or you see a crime or something
- 23:42Speaker 1: being committed? Will you report it or will you kind
- 23:44Speaker 1: of just take a photo and leave and then just
- 23:47Speaker 1: upload it onto onto citizen journalism sites? Or have you
- 23:52Speaker 1: encountered something similar? Let us know again 669-11987.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Or 90050987 to WhatsApp us. Yeah, I also think that
- 24:01Speaker 1: for us Singaporeans and Asians, a lot of us were
- 24:04Speaker 1: brought up with a mind your own business kind of mentality.
- 24:08Speaker 1: So I would safe to say before we even get
- 24:10Speaker 1: any response, I think 50% of people might just walk
- 24:13Speaker 1: away from it. They may not even do anything. We
- 24:15Speaker 1: acknowledge it. Yeah. A burning question for you here today.
- 24:18Speaker 1: If you were to witness or see something amiss or
- 24:21Speaker 1: something wrong out there in public, would you?
- 24:24Speaker 1: confront the person, would you report it, or would you
- 24:27Speaker 1: kind of just walk away and mind your own business?
- 24:30Speaker 1: I think for me it was feeding the birds to
- 24:32Speaker 1: the point where when I saw the uncle doing it,
- 24:35Speaker 1: I just shouted, Uncle, stop feeding the birds, and he
- 24:37Speaker 1: ran away. So I texted the Bishan CC number and saying, Hey,
- 24:41Speaker 1: I want to check this area out. And ever since
- 24:43Speaker 1: then I haven't seen the uncle again, but now I
- 24:45Speaker 1: feel bad. I cannot believe I'm feeling like you. I know,
- 24:47Speaker 1: I know, because I would feel bad too, because I
- 24:50Speaker 1: wonder whether that's his like main purpose of the.
- 24:53Speaker 1: you know what I mean, but hopefully he finds another purpose.
- 24:55Speaker 1: So I got a text coming in from Mel over
- 24:57Speaker 1: at 90050987. Hey Joakim, I don't think that was an
- 25:01Speaker 1: a-hole move. I guess this is where the gaps of
- 25:04Speaker 1: us as a society need to step up to play
- 25:06Speaker 1: our part. If uncle is combating loneliness, then it's up
- 25:10Speaker 1: to us as a society to ensure our seniors find
- 25:13Speaker 1: joy in their lives, and feeding crows is probably not
- 25:16Speaker 1: the joy the rest of us envision because it's detrimental
- 25:19Speaker 1: to others. In an ideal.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Well, maybe the Bishan CC or senior care services in
- 25:23Speaker 1: the area could have reached out to the uncle and
- 25:26Speaker 1: asked how they can help. So it's not on you.
- 25:28Speaker 1: And separately to Sonia, thank you for your collab with
- 25:31Speaker 1: the Saint Andrew's Autism Center. Oh, well done. Thank you.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Thank you for that. I appreciate you. Yeah, I appreciate
- 25:37Speaker 1: that comment, but I, I completely agree with this, um, statement,
- 25:41Speaker 1: because at, at the end of the day, right, like
- 25:44Speaker 1: for our seniors who may not have families or kids
- 25:48Speaker 1: and all that.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Um, it is a growing issue as well. It's a
- 25:51Speaker 1: big issue that I think we've been trying to tackle
- 25:55Speaker 1: as a community, but are we doing enough? I don't know. Really,
- 25:58Speaker 1: my heart goes out to them, witnessing some of these seniors. OK,
- 26:02Speaker 1: we got one from Pedro. Pedro says, Hey, Sonia. I
- 26:05Speaker 1: agree with Sonia it's important to approach the person first
- 26:08Speaker 1: to let him know that his action is wrong rather
- 26:11Speaker 1: than secretly to get $50. Thank you. Especially if we're
- 26:15Speaker 1: staying in the same neighborhood.
- 26:17Speaker 1: But look out and care for each other. Everyone is
- 26:19Speaker 1: learning and we make mistakes. Don't be so quick to
- 26:22Speaker 1: judge or penalize someone for his or her actions. A
- 26:25Speaker 1: wrong reporting move can easily be triggered into something like
- 26:29Speaker 1: web bullying and embarrassment to the person and family to
- 26:32Speaker 1: which we have seen plenty of this month or last
- 26:35Speaker 1: month in the month of July, so be careful.
- 26:37Speaker 1: I mean, look, there's a, there are a lot of
- 26:39Speaker 1: people out there who just cannot wait to get a
- 26:42Speaker 1: video or picture of something and, you know, send it in, right?
- 26:45Speaker 1: I once said this, sorry to interrupt you, before we
- 26:48Speaker 1: go for a quick break. When I just moved in
- 26:50Speaker 1: to my condo, right, years ago, this was kind of
- 26:54Speaker 1: just after COVID was, you know, coming down, right, or
- 26:57Speaker 1: around about the time that it was calming down a
- 26:59Speaker 1: little bit.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Um, there was this one guy, and the thing was
- 27:02Speaker 1: at that time, not the, the full population, they haven't
- 27:06Speaker 1: quite moved in just yet to the, to the property. OK.
- 27:09Speaker 1: This one bro, he's a dad, and I know he
- 27:12Speaker 1: has a teenage daughter, but his favorite pastime is taking
- 27:15Speaker 1: pictures of random, um, residents doing things that maybe he
- 27:20Speaker 1: thinks are wrong and clean the cleaners who are like
- 27:23Speaker 1: cleaning up the pool tables and all that, and reporting
- 27:26Speaker 1: them to the management.
- 27:28Speaker 1: And you know what his reports are like? Never cleaned properly.
- 27:31Speaker 1: The cleaner never cleaned the, the pool table, the pool,
- 27:34Speaker 1: the poolside table properly. And to the point where I
- 27:37Speaker 1: witnessed it once before, OK, I witnessed, I came from
- 27:39Speaker 1: the gym, right? I witnessed him videoing this poor lady,
- 27:43Speaker 1: this cleaner who was wiping up the, the table, and he,
- 27:46Speaker 1: he just stood there filming, you know, and then after
- 27:49Speaker 1: a while, like the lady looked uncomfortable. She was like, hey,
- 27:51Speaker 1: stop it, lah, like, you know, that kind of thing.
- 27:53Speaker 1: And then he turned away, he said, you're not doing
- 27:55Speaker 1: a proper job. So I was like, I confronted him.
- 27:59Speaker 1: I was like, bro, why you do this? Like why
- 28:01Speaker 1: do you need to do this? Like she's just trying
- 28:02Speaker 1: to do her job, you know.
- 28:04Speaker 1: And then he walks off. He, he ignores me and
- 28:06Speaker 1: he walks off, and the cleaner turned to me, she said,
- 28:08Speaker 1: she said, God, thank you. But he every day like that. Yeah,
- 28:12Speaker 1: he's not only targeting the, the, the cleaner, but like
- 28:14Speaker 1: other people like the security guard, the, um, the gardener,
- 28:18Speaker 1: like he just doesn't, he has too much time on
- 28:20Speaker 1: his hands. I can only imagine what the residents every
- 28:25Speaker 1: month would be like with him. I actually think he's,
- 28:27Speaker 1: he doesn't live there anymore. Good. I haven't seen him
- 28:29Speaker 1: in a very long time. I mean, there's that.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Acceptable level of doing that and unacceptable level of doing
- 28:36Speaker 1: that too much too much. Anyway, and we're talking about
- 28:39Speaker 1: whether or not if you see something that's going on
- 28:42Speaker 1: that could be amiss or something wrong out there, would
- 28:45Speaker 1: you report it? Would you confront the person, or would
- 28:48Speaker 1: you just like, OK, you know what, I was brought
- 28:51Speaker 1: up to mind my own business, so I'm just going
- 28:52Speaker 1: to walk away. Which one of these would you do?
- 28:55Speaker 1: Long story short, uh, I kind of reported someone for
- 28:58Speaker 1: feeding the birds over the Bishan and I
- 29:01Speaker 1: I have not seen that person do it ever since.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Just that now I cannot believe I feel like Sonia.
- 29:06Speaker 1: I feel bad. You've become me. Yeah, yeah, is the
- 29:09Speaker 1: uncle OK? I know. I worry about that sometimes too,
- 29:13Speaker 1: because a lot of seniors are, right? We have an
- 29:14Speaker 1: anonymous texter coming in on WhatsApp. Morning, Sojo. This is
- 29:18Speaker 1: the first time I'm texting him because I work in
- 29:20Speaker 1: the wildlife industry and I feel strongly about this. I
- 29:23Speaker 1: think Joakim did the right thing, and I would have
- 29:25Speaker 1: done the same while we also sympathize with the mentality
- 29:28Speaker 1: of the feeders.
- 29:29Speaker 1: That's why anti-feeding campaign messages these days focus on the
- 29:33Speaker 1: idea that feeding will not do the animals good because
- 29:36Speaker 1: they can be culled eventually when the situation gets out
- 29:39Speaker 1: of control. To those who say, mind your own business,
- 29:42Speaker 1: this is an issue that will become everyone's business when
- 29:45Speaker 1: the bird poops on someone's car or starts squawking in
- 29:48Speaker 1: the wee hours of the morning, not from government, but
- 29:51Speaker 1: I've reported things like illegal fishing on the official one
- 29:54Speaker 1: service app where they can follow up.
- 29:57Speaker 1: So, um, you know, this is an unintentional ad for
- 30:00Speaker 1: the one service app actually because, but it is useful,
- 30:03Speaker 1: it is useful when you want to report something quickly. Yeah,
- 30:06Speaker 1: but I must say, very fast. I remember my mom
- 30:13Speaker 1: was talking about some birds that were chirping outside our house,
- 30:17Speaker 1: and I think after investigations they realized, OK, we can
- 30:19Speaker 1: actually saw off this branch and all that in a
- 30:22Speaker 1: more humane and safe manner.
- 30:25Speaker 1: OK, one last one. We got one more coming in
- 30:27Speaker 1: from Naraisha who says, Hey, Sojo, I love this topic.
- 30:30Speaker 1: I have a serial food thrower of a neighbor. Oh
- 30:33Speaker 1: my God, not targeting anyone here, but my laundry is
- 30:36Speaker 1: constantly showered with rice and sometimes bits of chicken. My
- 30:41Speaker 1: mom confronted the neighbor above who appeared totally oblivious. There
- 30:45Speaker 1: was once, I did this right before my eye and
- 30:47Speaker 1: shouted out my window upwards towards my neighbor's direction.
- 30:50Speaker 1: And went all joking, Uncle, stop throwing food lah. Then, um,
- 30:55Speaker 1: any resolution? I've also gone to the one service app
- 30:58Speaker 1: and it has stopped ever since. OK, but I wonder
- 31:01Speaker 1: why that person was doing that. Is it like a
- 31:04Speaker 1: psychological thing or what? Why would you throw food outside
- 31:06Speaker 1: your window? Just throwing things out the window thinking you
- 31:09Speaker 1: won't get caught or cause inconvenience to anyone. Why throw
- 31:12Speaker 1: food out the window? I'm so curious. It's a question
- 31:14Speaker 1: I wish to know as well.
- 31:15Speaker 1: OK, uh, Alice is on the line right now. What
- 31:17Speaker 1: about you?
- 31:18Speaker 2: I actually worked around Little India previously, so
- 31:22Speaker 2: I have to drive to Little India and park outside
- 31:25Speaker 2: around the street of the some of the shophouses. So that,
- 31:29Speaker 2: the area is quite uh popular with pigeons and crows.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Oh for sure, yeah, India. Yes, so what happened is
- 31:37Speaker 2: that every time I parked there, that I saw one guy,
- 31:40Speaker 2: he really drove there and took out the cat canned
- 31:43Speaker 2: food to feed the birds there.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Diligently and he really feed with not rice but really
- 31:51Speaker 2: open up the canned food and then just put in
- 31:54Speaker 2: one corner and feed them and then I can see
- 31:56Speaker 2: initially I was like, OK, this person is maybe doing
- 31:59Speaker 2: something quite fine, but I saw that the bird population
- 32:02Speaker 2: just
- 32:03Speaker 2: Exploded. It exploded. It literally exploded to the extent that
- 32:08Speaker 2: the pigeons, they were walking into the restaurants, some parts
- 32:12Speaker 2: of the restaurants are open. They were just walking, marching
- 32:15Speaker 2: marching around the places, and then I, I can see
- 32:18Speaker 2: these birds are getting a bit more calmer.
- 32:21Speaker 2: More like humanized. They are like, they are very used
- 32:24Speaker 2: to humans. I'm like, oh my God, I cannot take
- 32:26Speaker 2: it anymore. I tried to glare at him because I
- 32:29Speaker 2: felt that maybe by looking at him, you know, every
- 32:31Speaker 2: day he see me walk past with that face of mine,
- 32:34Speaker 2: he will stop it.
- 32:35Speaker 2: You know, I didn't dare to confront him because I,
- 32:38Speaker 2: I was alone and I'm a bit petite, and I
- 32:41Speaker 2: don't think it's, it's, it's, I thought that it's like
- 32:43Speaker 2: if you see someone keeps staring at you, you probably
- 32:45Speaker 2: have some feeling that this person is like watching you, right?
- 32:48Speaker 2: So I did it for months and this person never stopped.
- 32:51Speaker 2: I reported it and then it took like maybe 1
- 32:53Speaker 2: to 2 months to get this guy.
- 32:56Speaker 2: I think the NEA actually warned, I think they actually
- 32:59Speaker 2: caught him on CCTV and warned him about. Oh,
- 33:01Speaker 1: that's good, that's good.
- 33:02Speaker 2: They caught him finally.
- 33:03Speaker 1: Thank you so much for your call and telling us
- 33:05Speaker 1: the whole story, E. You take care, OK? And we're
- 33:08Speaker 1: going back to our messages first before one more caller
- 33:10Speaker 1: hanging on the line. We're talking about whether or not
- 33:13Speaker 1: you would report something if you see it, or would
- 33:16Speaker 1: you maybe confront the person or just mind your own
- 33:18Speaker 1: business and walk away. Text coming in from June saying, morning,
- 33:22Speaker 1: Joakim and Sonia. I just confronted a group of middle-aged.
- 33:25Speaker 1: an older group of cyclists on Sunday who will not
- 33:28Speaker 1: dismount to push their bicycles across the suspension bridge near
- 33:32Speaker 1: the Singapore Indoor Stadium. I know which one this is.
- 33:35Speaker 1: It's the one connecting the stadium area to Tanjong Road
- 33:38Speaker 1: where you must dismount and push your bikes. Well, that's
- 33:41Speaker 1: because there's a lot of pedestrians as well, yeah, right?
- 33:43Speaker 1: And now with the NDP previews happening, right, there's a
- 33:46Speaker 1: bit of scaffolding there as well to protect the fireworks,
- 33:50Speaker 1: when it burst, you know. So one of them was
- 33:52Speaker 1: so patronizing to say, OK, but they're not.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Mount. I was finishing a long run that Sunday and
- 33:57Speaker 1: just could not hold back, given it's a narrow bridge
- 33:59Speaker 1: with loads of human traffic and workers taking down the
- 34:02Speaker 1: scaffolding after Saturday's NDP preview. There you go. Actually, you know,
- 34:06Speaker 1: it's funny that you mentioned this place because I remember
- 34:09Speaker 1: having to go there a few times for like some
- 34:11Speaker 1: filming stuff, and uh the crew, you know, you know,
- 34:14Speaker 1: we call this Murphy's Law, right? Like when you want
- 34:16Speaker 1: to start filming, suddenly there's a lot of people that
- 34:18Speaker 1: want to cross, and the, the one of the assistants
- 34:21Speaker 1: tried to ask this cyclist to
- 34:24Speaker 1: Either move to the side or just wait for a while,
- 34:26Speaker 1: get off or push. He scolded her scolded. Yeah, people
- 34:29Speaker 1: can be very entitled. It's never easy being an AD
- 34:33Speaker 1: or AP on set. Uh, by the way, this is
- 34:35Speaker 1: inspired by what I did in Bishan about this uncle,
- 34:38Speaker 1: the crows. I want to say good morning.
- 34:40Speaker 1: To Montero. Now we know Bishan got one capo guy
- 34:43Speaker 1: named Joakim. Thanks. Thanks. I'm just doing my part. Hello.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Joining us here this morning, um, we also send our
- 34:51Speaker 1: love and well wishes to Ariana Grande, of course, one
- 34:54Speaker 1: of our pop princesses. But anyway, um, back to our
- 34:57Speaker 1: topic of the day, which is, would you report someone
- 35:00Speaker 1: if you see something wrong.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Um, confront the person or just mind your own business
- 35:04Speaker 1: and walk away. So inspired by what I did against
- 35:06Speaker 1: someone feeding the crows over at the Bishan area, just
- 35:08Speaker 1: one quick text coming in from your username is cloud,
- 35:13Speaker 1: the emoji. Morning soldier. I keep reporting this van that
- 35:16Speaker 1: parks next to the fire hydrant and solid white line
- 35:19Speaker 1: as it obstructs traffic.
- 35:21Speaker 1: I love the one service app except that I have
- 35:23Speaker 1: to go into the app and fill in details before
- 35:25Speaker 1: using the camera and the app to take a photo
- 35:27Speaker 1: and sometimes I'm just driving past and I'm not able
- 35:30Speaker 1: to stop for long. Yeah, true, because you need it.
- 35:35Speaker 1: It's encouraged. I mean you can have a dashboard camera,
- 35:39Speaker 1: then use a screenshot from there or something.
- 35:41Speaker 1: OK, Melvin, uh, last but not least, what happened? I
- 35:44Speaker 1: discovered this mysterious car abandoned by the road, so I
- 35:47Speaker 1: waited quite a while. I actually reported to the police
- 35:50Speaker 1: because it wasn't an ordinary car by any means. It
- 35:53Speaker 1: was worth maybe 5000 to 600,000. So anybody who sees
- 35:58Speaker 1: a car abandoned on the road, naturally you would think
- 36:00Speaker 1: the driver did something wrong, that's why abandoned the car
- 36:02Speaker 1: and left, right.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Exactly, exactly. So maybe he was drinking or, you know,
- 36:06Speaker 1: drugs might have been involved. So what was the conclusion?
- 36:09Speaker 1: Did you find out? After I reported to the police,
- 36:12Speaker 1: I waited there because it was just opposite my place.
- 36:15Speaker 1: So I waited for the police to come and when
- 36:17Speaker 1: this mysterious driver came back, it turns out that the
- 36:20Speaker 1: car had ran out of fuel and the poor driver
- 36:23Speaker 1: probably had to flag down like a random.
- 36:26Speaker 1: A passerby driver who had to fetch her to the
- 36:29Speaker 1: next nearest petrol station to, you know, buy like a
- 36:32Speaker 1: little can of petrol in order to top up. But
- 36:34Speaker 1: kudos to you for being vigilant. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:37Speaker 1: I mean it could have been anything else, to be honest.
- 36:41Speaker 1: It could have been, yeah.
- 36:42Speaker 1: OK, thank you so much for your messages and your
- 36:45Speaker 1: calls and stories, um, and for the overwhelming response as well.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Only one person can walk away with a beautiful prize
- 36:51Speaker 1: thanks to Dyson here today. You know what? Only because
- 36:54Speaker 1: this person texted us earlier and this person works in
- 36:57Speaker 1: the wildlife industry, to which not easy lah, having to
- 37:01Speaker 1: care for the wildlife here in Singapore and also deterring
- 37:04Speaker 1: humans from feeding them and breaking all sorts of rules.
- 37:07Speaker 1: We'll give it to this anonymous.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Dexter, I think you could use the fan to cool
- 37:11Speaker 1: yourself from the heat and humidity here in Singapore as well.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Well done, well done. The Dyson Hushjet Mini Cool coming
- 37:17Speaker 1: your way, now available in a brand new Singapore exclusive
- 37:20Speaker 1: Carnelian Sky colorway just in time for our nation's birthday.
- 37:23Speaker 1: So please visit their website, Dyson.com.sg. You can actually buy
- 37:27Speaker 1: it at any Dyson stores, online, and authorized retailers, and
- 37:30Speaker 1: it also comes with a two-year Dyson warranty. So please enjoy.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Hope you.
- 37:35Speaker 1: We had fun during our show here today. We had
- 37:38Speaker 1: Licky in the studio and also we are counting down
- 37:40Speaker 1: to so many things happening here in Singapore. August 7th,
- 37:44Speaker 1: don't forget Jalan Besar Stadium, Singapore against Indonesia, and then
- 37:48Speaker 1: August 9th, National Day. I'm very curious, um, you know, the, the,
- 37:52Speaker 1: the history of Jalan Besar, right, because Basar means big, right, in,
- 37:55Speaker 1: in Malay. So was that really the literal meaning like
- 37:59Speaker 1: the stadium is big, so.
- 38:02Speaker 1: That's right. Big stadium. I don't think so. I mean translation,
- 38:07Speaker 1: no stadium here in Singapore will be as big as
- 38:09Speaker 1: the national stadium, of course, for sure. And because I
- 38:12Speaker 1: believe NDP is happening over there, that's why they must
- 38:15Speaker 1: stage this game at Jalan Besar Stadium. Oh, OK. So
- 38:17Speaker 1: if not, you would say it would have been done
- 38:20Speaker 1: at the actual stadium, yeah, I mean loads of people
- 38:23Speaker 1: want to go watch this age-old rivalry, and I really
- 38:26Speaker 1: hope Singapore gets some retribution for whatever happened 5 years ago.
- 38:30Speaker 1: What happened 5 years ago?
- 38:31Speaker 1: So 5 years ago, uh, 9 men in Singapore, we
- 38:34Speaker 1: had 2 players sent off here. We almost pulled off
- 38:37Speaker 1: a miracle, but then in the end, Indonesia beat us
- 38:41Speaker 1: and there was a bit of unsportsmanlike behavior. Was it
- 38:44Speaker 1: like a big gap in the score? No, no, it was,
- 38:47Speaker 1: I think 3-2 or was it 4-2. It was close.
- 38:49Speaker 1: It was a close fight. OK. All right, well, all
- 38:53Speaker 1: the best to our boys who are representing us and
- 38:55Speaker 1: don't forget they're wearing the new kits. Oh wait. Yeah, yeah,
- 38:58Speaker 1: it's beautiful.
