- 0:15Speaker 2: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. I just want to go into
- 0:20Speaker 2: twenty twenty four with someone that's not easy to defend.
- 0:26Speaker 3: You're looking at a Frankenstein offensive line right now, Frankenstein,
- 0:29Speaker 3: you're taking together there?
- 0:31Speaker 2: It should be really.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Frokenstein. Sorry.
- 0:35Speaker 4: I have like an old school digital big surprise, an
- 0:37Speaker 4: old school digital clock.
- 0:39Speaker 5: It's like, can you do anything? Do you slide it?
- 0:42Speaker 5: How do you set the alarm?
- 0:44Speaker 2: And gets up when the cock crows?
- 0:45Speaker 6: Right?
- 0:47Speaker 5: Better than my algorithm?
- 0:48Speaker 7: On Facebook?
- 0:51Speaker 2: I don't want to open that.
- 0:52Speaker 4: You got a little porns Facebook.
- 0:55Speaker 2: It's not only fans, it's all guys from the Jersey
- 0:57Speaker 2: named Mike.
- 0:59Speaker 3: How you going was?
- 1:00Speaker 5: It's it's mostly comparable.
- 1:02Speaker 4: But at the time less today he didn't get nineteen
- 1:07Speaker 4: million like when you did.
- 1:09Speaker 5: But it's inflation.
- 1:11Speaker 2: James Sanders.
- 1:14Speaker 4: How come he's the only one allowed to talk over everybody?
- 1:17Speaker 8: There we go, Okay, there's lots of weird going on
- 1:19Speaker 8: when you guys are dealing with the phone.
- 1:21Speaker 2: That's that's Paul backing up his taste.
- 1:25Speaker 5: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website.

- 1:33Speaker 2: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:37Speaker 2: at j Let's Stadium. And what what, Deuce? I don't know,
- 1:41Speaker 2: I'm gonna say something.
- 1:42Speaker 3: I was just pointing to the sky when you say
- 1:43Speaker 3: what day it is, I don't know what I mean.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Okay, Tuesday, all right, thanks to Lord. And uh,
- 1:50Speaker 2: we're in the midst of free agency. I don't know
- 1:53Speaker 2: if you call it a frenzy for the Patriots, but
- 1:56Speaker 2: they're still making some moves. It's Deuce, it's tomorrow, Evan,
- 1:59Speaker 2: it's Paul, myself, Matt and Jewels are in the booth.
- 2:03Speaker 2: And why don't you run down the latest moves.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Oh, it's well, it's just one. It's just kJ kJ Osborne.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Who's in the building today.
- 2:12Speaker 3: He is one year, four million. Yeah, pretty good move.
- 2:16Speaker 3: I mean I think we were we were talking on
- 2:18Speaker 3: the Draft show before this, and just feels a little redundant.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I mean, I think he's a player. He can play
- 2:23Speaker 3: in the NFL, and I mean.
- 2:24Speaker 5: He can play in the NFL.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Now he and the US some big touchdowns. You know,
- 2:30Speaker 3: he's had some uh some some clutch moments. I think, uh,
- 2:34Speaker 3: you know, he's he's a productive guy. But you know
- 2:36Speaker 3: it's I still kind of see him as you know,
- 2:37Speaker 3: Kendrick Bourne, that kind.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Of players still need a number one.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Yeah, you still just you know, don't have an outside
- 2:43Speaker 3: receiver really or somebody that that his presence on the outside,
- 2:46Speaker 3: you know, for I mean, as much as DeVante Parker
- 2:48Speaker 3: was not reliable, you know, that was at least one
- 2:50Speaker 3: thing that where he kind of fits. So I think
- 2:53Speaker 3: they're still searching for that guy. And and that's what
- 2:54Speaker 3: we're talking about on Draft Countdown, which will be out tomorrow.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Just how do you find that guy? And can you
- 2:59Speaker 3: find him in the draft? In the rounds?
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean or trade yep. You know, you know
- 3:04Speaker 2: I saw somebody everybody who was saying t Higgins you
- 3:07Speaker 2: know for a second, you know, which if they did that,
- 3:11Speaker 2: I would be fine with that. You have to pay him,
- 3:14Speaker 2: of course, So basically you're using your second round pick
- 3:18Speaker 2: for a receiver, which is kind of what they were
- 3:20Speaker 2: planning to do anyway, except you.
- 3:23Speaker 9: Know, yeah, I'm okay with that. Because I feel like
- 3:26Speaker 9: I'm a big like quality over quantity type of gal,
- 3:29Speaker 9: and I do believe that they probably put all their
- 3:31Speaker 9: eggs in their basket obviously to get the wide receiver
- 3:35Speaker 9: we all wanted, and Calvin Ridley or at least you know,
- 3:37Speaker 9: that was the best one out there for us. And
- 3:40Speaker 9: so now that he's obviously off the market going to
- 3:42Speaker 9: the Titans, I'm wondering if maybe all of their focus
- 3:45Speaker 9: was on that and they didn't really have a backup plan,
- 3:47Speaker 9: or their backup plan was the draft. But I do
- 3:49Speaker 9: think that they should at least try to go get
- 3:51Speaker 9: Tea Higgins.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yeah. I you know, everyone's saying, now, oh, you know,
- 3:55Speaker 2: now that they lost down to Calvin Ridley, they're all
- 3:58Speaker 2: in on the draft. You know, it's you know, they're
- 4:01Speaker 2: putting all their eggs in the draft basket.
- 4:03Speaker 4: That was according to Justina Anderson.
- 4:04Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I don't know why that from the Patriots. I don't
- 4:07Speaker 2: know why that should be the case. Okay, so you
- 4:09Speaker 2: missed the Calvin Ridley.
- 4:10Speaker 9: Yeah, you know, I feel like there should have been
- 4:12Speaker 9: a backup plan, like or at least like some sort
- 4:14Speaker 9: of like, Okay, if we do miss out on him,
- 4:16Speaker 9: here's the next guy's up there.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Well, they got Osborne. I mean, I don't know if
- 4:19Speaker 2: that was as it's not as sexy and he's not
- 4:22Speaker 2: as good, but you.
- 4:23Speaker 9: Know, or I would have tried to go get Jonah
- 4:26Speaker 9: like I mean, okay, say, if we couldn't get our
- 4:28Speaker 9: money to go to Calvin Ridley, could we get it
- 4:30Speaker 9: to go towards our offensive line instead?
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 4:32Speaker 9: And I feel like the Patriots fans, it looked like
- 4:35Speaker 9: the people I follow really upset that they didn't try
- 4:37Speaker 9: to make a move quickly for Jonah after they couldn't
- 4:39Speaker 9: get Calvin Ridley.
- 4:40Speaker 10: Oh.
- 4:40Speaker 5: I think it came to like I was one of
- 4:43Speaker 5: those people that was upset but they didn't go after
- 4:44Speaker 5: Jonah Williams. But now they want mike on Whnny to
- 4:46Speaker 5: play right tackle, so that that's right. That was their
- 4:51Speaker 5: move at tackle in free agency. Whether we agree or
- 4:53Speaker 5: not that Mike on whin who is a right tackle
- 4:55Speaker 5: or not, their tackle big money tackle move was to
- 4:59Speaker 5: bring back on when play them at right tackle. So
- 5:01Speaker 5: that's what they're doing. I actually I see what they're
- 5:04Speaker 5: trying to accomplish this offseason. So far, it's not exciting.
- 5:08Speaker 5: It's not splashy. It's not the fireworks and all that
- 5:12Speaker 5: kind of stuff, but guys like kJ Osborne. Whether you
- 5:16Speaker 5: agree with this or that, you need to have depth
- 5:19Speaker 5: on your roster. Yeah, and now they have a wide
- 5:23Speaker 5: receiver room that I would say is really just missing
- 5:26Speaker 5: the alpha guy. And if it's t Higgins for the
- 5:29Speaker 5: thirty fourth overall pick, it's Ady Mitchell, it's Xavier Legette,
- 5:34Speaker 5: it's whoever in the draft that's supposed to be your alpha.
- 5:38Speaker 5: Now you cannot trust that they're going to draft the
- 5:40Speaker 5: right guy based off their track record. But I understand
- 5:43Speaker 5: what they're doing in terms of we're gonna use free
- 5:47Speaker 5: agency mostly to supplement the depth pieces of the rosters
- 5:51Speaker 5: that when we get to the draft, it's draft the quarterback,
- 5:53Speaker 5: draft the receiver, and hopefully we hit on those two picks.
- 5:57Speaker 5: And now we have the top end of the roster guys.
- 5:59Speaker 5: I just don't know what top end of the roster
- 6:01Speaker 5: guys were available on the open market besides Ridley, who
- 6:04Speaker 5: they tried to get that was really going to fill
- 6:07Speaker 5: that need in free agency.
- 6:08Speaker 4: And that's why I have no problems if they have
- 6:10Speaker 4: decided to sort of switch gears wide receiver wise, because
- 6:13Speaker 4: I think that's the only one that was really left.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Now I'm not saying I wouldn't take kJ Osborne. I'm
- 6:18Speaker 4: not saying I wouldn't be interested in Mike Williams. But like,
- 6:21Speaker 4: in terms of big ticket items, it was Ridley and
- 6:24Speaker 4: that was kind of it. The rest of them required trades,
- 6:27Speaker 4: and that's a different animal. So the other part if
- 6:32Speaker 4: they had, just like the moves that they made, it
- 6:36Speaker 4: was exactly what Evan said in terms of, you know,
- 6:38Speaker 4: adding some good players and some depth pieces, and I
- 6:42Speaker 4: just wish there was something to sort of tie it
- 6:44Speaker 4: all together, you know, with a big ticket item. You know,
- 6:48Speaker 4: you know to lead that group. You know, when you
- 6:50Speaker 4: lead that group among the re signed guys.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Right well, you're kind of hoping that you had among
- 6:56Speaker 2: tackle or wide receiver a big ticket just to take
- 7:01Speaker 2: the stress off the draft.
- 7:02Speaker 4: They have three major needs heading into the draft. They
- 7:04Speaker 4: have addressed none of them.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Right So like even if like let's just say you
- 7:09Speaker 2: got Ridley, that means you can draft your quarterback, you
- 7:13Speaker 2: can take a tackle with your second pick, and then
- 7:16Speaker 2: you don't have to use you know, you can take
- 7:19Speaker 2: a wide receiver in the fourth round because you still
- 7:21Speaker 2: could get a pretty good wide receiver.
- 7:23Speaker 4: In the fourth you absolutely can, you know you absolutely can,
- 7:25Speaker 4: and I think now you are going to go that
- 7:27Speaker 4: way because I think you know, and Evan talked about
- 7:30Speaker 4: the when you move at tackle, which I really don't
- 7:33Speaker 4: now like. I liked that signing. That was my favorite
- 7:36Speaker 4: move out of all the moves they've made, that's the
- 7:38Speaker 4: one I like the most. I still like it the most,
- 7:41Speaker 4: but I don't like it as much. With this sort
- 7:44Speaker 4: of decision that they've reportedly made, we should credit Ian
- 7:47Speaker 4: Rappaport that the plan is that he's going to be
- 7:50Speaker 4: the right tackle. I don't like him as the right
- 7:52Speaker 4: tackle as much as I do as the right guard.
- 7:55Speaker 4: But either way, to Evan's point, they still need a
- 7:58Speaker 4: left tackle right and at some point you have to
- 8:03Speaker 4: figure out how you're gonna how are you going to
- 8:05Speaker 4: fill that that hole.
- 8:07Speaker 3: I'm with you, Paul on not really loving that report.
- 8:09Speaker 3: I mean, we talked about it last show. But I thought,
- 8:11Speaker 3: I mean, Evan, I'll let you say we were talking
- 8:12Speaker 3: about upstairs. I thought Evan actually had had a good point,
- 8:15Speaker 3: not to say, actually, I was gonna say he actually
- 8:17Speaker 3: had one time once once in two years. No, but
- 8:20Speaker 3: but on when you. You don't want you to spit it out.
- 8:24Speaker 5: I don't. I'm not sure what's the exact point you're
- 8:26Speaker 5: talking about, but yeah, I make.
- 8:27Speaker 3: So many Well, well just I mean, I'll I mean,
- 8:30Speaker 3: we just talk a lot about I think we can.
- 8:33Speaker 3: I'll admit, he's a pretty solid right tackle and it's
- 8:36Speaker 3: a place to start for them, And it's a one
- 8:38Speaker 3: year thing maybe and maybe if it doesn't work, they'll
- 8:40Speaker 3: kick him back in the guard next year. And you know,
- 8:42Speaker 3: but but maybe it's a starting point. They're at least
- 8:44Speaker 3: gonna you know, go and hopefully with better coaching too.
- 8:47Speaker 5: Sure, yeah, yeah, I mean, there's no doubt that he
- 8:50Speaker 5: brings more value to the team at tackle. It's a
- 8:53Speaker 5: more valuable position. But the problem that I see with
- 8:56Speaker 5: on one tackle is pass blocking. He's got a short
- 8:59Speaker 5: corner because he doesn't have the great movement skills and
- 9:02Speaker 5: athleticism to get out to you know, pass sets and
- 9:05Speaker 5: get out there and cut off the corners and things
- 9:07Speaker 5: like that. Now, maybe an off season of tackle sets
- 9:11Speaker 5: and then maybe he drops ten to fifteen pounds, ten pounds,
- 9:14Speaker 5: maybe you know, to.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Get a little bit thinner, at a little bit he's more. Yeah,
- 9:19Speaker 4: because I don't think he really wanted to do it
- 9:21Speaker 4: last year.
- 9:21Speaker 5: Yeah, maybe he's just lighter on his feet, maybe he's
- 9:24Speaker 5: more into it. Maybe he's getting better coaching, Maybe he's
- 9:26Speaker 5: got more experience there in the off season and he
- 9:29Speaker 5: can individually approve. I believe that could happen. But this
- 9:33Speaker 5: trickle down effect that it has on what they want
- 9:36Speaker 5: to do schematically and on the interior of the offensive
- 9:39Speaker 5: line is where my major concerns are with him playing tackle,
- 9:42Speaker 5: because maybe I'm in the minority. I got a lot
- 9:45Speaker 5: of pushback about this. I am not sold on Cole
- 9:48Speaker 5: Strange yet as a starting left guard in the league,
- 9:53Speaker 5: both because of injuries and because of performance. You know,
- 9:56Speaker 5: the guy had one good stretch of play last year,
- 9:58Speaker 5: gets immediately gets hurt. So like what do we we
- 10:00Speaker 5: got to see it from Cole Strange. I like City,
- 10:03Speaker 5: So I love so and on WHENNU next to each other.
- 10:06Speaker 5: If you're gonna be a downhill run team, those guys
- 10:08Speaker 5: are going to move the line of scrimmage together really,
- 10:10Speaker 5: really well. But you're a little bit weaker in past
- 10:13Speaker 5: blocking on the right side. You still have a question
- 10:15Speaker 5: mark in my mind at left guard. And we don't
- 10:17Speaker 5: even have a left tackle, So it's like there's still
- 10:20Speaker 5: a lot of things to work out.
- 10:21Speaker 4: It's more pressure on that group of young guys. Now,
- 10:24Speaker 4: I think you should be able to figure it out.
- 10:25Speaker 4: I'm not saying it's the end of the world, but
- 10:27Speaker 4: I agree with Evan Strange. So Mafi Jake Andrews, Yeah,
- 10:33Speaker 4: now you need two of those guys to emerge as
- 10:35Speaker 4: legitimate star because I thought when you would be one
- 10:38Speaker 4: of those.
- 10:39Speaker 3: I'm just going to say it not insignificant that it
- 10:40Speaker 3: sounds like Cole Strange is not going to be jump
- 10:42Speaker 3: right in the program, be ready to go. You know,
- 10:44Speaker 3: like some of what they think they got Leverett for
- 10:46Speaker 3: was to have some insurance on him. But if you're
- 10:48Speaker 3: trying to pitch that Cole Strange is going to pick
- 10:51Speaker 3: up where he left off before he got hurt, it's
- 10:52Speaker 3: kind of hard, you know, to say, if he's not
- 10:54Speaker 3: even really gonna.
- 10:55Speaker 5: In practicing camp last year either because of an AD one.
- 10:59Speaker 5: I don't know why I were convinced that that's an
- 11:01Speaker 5: answer there yet.
- 11:02Speaker 2: And I was mildly surprised that Tyron Smith was willing
- 11:06Speaker 2: to go to the Jets for what he got in
- 11:09Speaker 2: one year deal. I mean that's a good deal for
- 11:12Speaker 2: the Jets, it really is.
- 11:14Speaker 3: It's a good signing if they are I mean, if
- 11:16Speaker 3: Mike Williams, if they're able to get Mike Williams and
- 11:18Speaker 3: Garrett Wilson and you know, Breist Hall and Aaron Rodgers,
- 11:22Speaker 3: is healthy, I mean they should have reason for optimism
- 11:24Speaker 3: for sure.
- 11:24Speaker 2: I thought Smith would be looking for and he would
- 11:27Speaker 2: hold out until he got better money. Ye, good for them,
- 11:31Speaker 2: but boy, we could use him.
- 11:34Speaker 4: At his age. He probably wasn't going to get.
- 11:36Speaker 2: The no, he's thirty three deal.
- 11:38Speaker 4: But I do think that the Jets needed to overhaul
- 11:43Speaker 4: their offensive line. I don't know if it'll work, but
- 11:46Speaker 4: they did. I mean, that's three different guys they brought
- 11:48Speaker 4: in right, two tackles with Moses and uh, what's it Joe?
- 11:53Speaker 4: Who's the guard John something? I can't think of his name.
- 11:57Speaker 4: But anyway, they signed three guys that ostensibly could be
- 12:00Speaker 4: started starting for them on the offensive line.
- 12:03Speaker 5: Yeah, they definitely shook it up. I wonder if McKay
- 12:08Speaker 5: Beckton is at all on the Patriots radar because I
- 12:11Speaker 5: thought about that. Those are the types of moves that
- 12:13Speaker 5: I feel like they should be making. This is a very,
- 12:15Speaker 5: very talented guy that hasn't been able to stay on
- 12:17Speaker 5: the field, hasn't really been able to gain any momentum
- 12:20Speaker 5: in his career, but has first round top really top
- 12:23Speaker 5: of the ten, right. I think he's like ten or
- 12:25Speaker 5: eleven in that draft in the first round talent. So
- 12:28Speaker 5: maybe they they have an incentive laid and deal with
- 12:31Speaker 5: Mackay Beckton who can play on the left side.
- 12:33Speaker 4: John Simpsons.
- 12:34Speaker 3: I thought I had John Simon.
- 12:36Speaker 5: I thought it was Simpson, but I didn't want to be.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Right, So yeah, I couldn't thank Shepherd Simpson something Sampson,
- 12:42Speaker 4: but he was a starter for the Ravens, good offensive line,
- 12:45Speaker 4: run oriented team obviously, So I think they brought three
- 12:49Speaker 4: guys in. We'll see if those guys can stay healthy.
- 12:51Speaker 4: That's the big ift, especially with Smith. I saw, you know,
- 12:56Speaker 4: everyone's favorite betting expert, Michael Party. You know immediately what's
- 13:01Speaker 4: the over under on how many games Smith's gonna play?
- 13:03Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know, Like, would you say that
- 13:06Speaker 4: if like Baltimore signed Tyron Smith or if the Patriots
- 13:09Speaker 4: signed Tyron Smith. I mean, it's just because the Jets
- 13:11Speaker 4: signed him, So yeah, he's destined to not play any games.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Risk it's a legitimate there's an injury risk, yeah, no question. Yeah,
- 13:18Speaker 4: but what do you think you can signed a one
- 13:19Speaker 4: year deal for right right?
- 13:20Speaker 3: Well, it's I mean when you I mean go through
- 13:22Speaker 3: the guys I rattled off. They've all had injury issues
- 13:24Speaker 3: in the last two years except for I guess Karret
- 13:26Speaker 3: Williams was you know, so I don't know they I mean,
- 13:28Speaker 3: you know how injuries are. Sometimes they hate you. Sometimes
- 13:30Speaker 3: you just magically get through the year without them.
- 13:32Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 13:33Speaker 3: But if they all stay healthy, I think that Jets
- 13:34Speaker 3: team's gonna be a problem.
- 13:35Speaker 2: So losing out on Calvin will Ridley. Looking at what
- 13:40Speaker 2: the free agent market is right now, does this make
- 13:44Speaker 2: it more sure that the Patriots are gonna take the
- 13:47Speaker 2: third pick and take a quarterback or is there now
- 13:50Speaker 2: more odds that they might trade down.
- 13:54Speaker 3: I just think there's an I think there's an argument
- 13:56Speaker 3: to be made to trade down. But you know, if
- 13:58Speaker 3: you don't love Drake may or Jayden and I mean,
- 14:00Speaker 3: it's pretty simply simple to me. Either take one of
- 14:02Speaker 3: those two guys, or you trade down and try to
- 14:04Speaker 3: get a tackle.
- 14:05Speaker 2: And nothing changes. If they like one of those yeah,
- 14:08Speaker 2: I don't If they like both those guys.
- 14:10Speaker 4: Well, in terms of things that have changed. In our
- 14:11Speaker 4: last show, that Minnesota trade, we mentioned that at all.
- 14:15Speaker 4: I don't think that changes really much for the Patriots.
- 14:17Speaker 4: I don't think that they're looking to go from eleven
- 14:19Speaker 4: to three. I think they got something else in my
- 14:21Speaker 4: But Minnesota acquired an additional first round pick from Houston
- 14:25Speaker 4: twenty three. I think, so they now have eleven and
- 14:28Speaker 4: twenty three, and the conventional wisdom is they're looking to
- 14:31Speaker 4: get into the quarterback race. But a lot of people
- 14:34Speaker 4: think it's JJ McCarthy, yeah, the Charge.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Or four with Arizona. Yeah, one of those two teams.
- 14:40Speaker 5: I just if you take everything that they've said at
- 14:43Speaker 5: face value and all the reporting at face value, the
- 14:46Speaker 5: plan all along, going all the way back to the
- 14:48Speaker 5: Combine was a draft quarterback, and I don't think missing
- 14:51Speaker 5: on Calvin Ridley should derail you from that plan. I
- 14:54Speaker 5: don't think you should just throw the plan up in
- 14:55Speaker 5: the air because you missed out on a guy that's
- 14:58Speaker 5: a good player, but not we're not talking about you know,
- 15:01Speaker 5: prime Randy Moss here that they didn't sign. So I
- 15:04Speaker 5: would just say that if that's all that is true,
- 15:07Speaker 5: that they were really dead set, they've already checked the
- 15:10Speaker 5: Jacoby Brissett box, which is what everybody said that they
- 15:12Speaker 5: were going to do. So it seems like we're on
- 15:14Speaker 5: this path. Then why would you change your plan at
- 15:17Speaker 5: three just because you did missed out on Calvin Ridley,
- 15:20Speaker 5: Like it just seems like an overreaction.
- 15:22Speaker 2: And then there's just this other raer report, which I
- 15:24Speaker 2: don't get how people extrapolate this rare reports that at
- 15:27Speaker 2: the combine the Patriots were approached by the Saints see
- 15:31Speaker 2: if they were interested in moving out of three and
- 15:33Speaker 2: and the Patriots said no. So now from that report,
- 15:37Speaker 2: everyone's like, Patriots have no interest in moving out of three.
- 15:40Speaker 2: No at that time with that team, they might have
- 15:43Speaker 2: said no, But that doesn't mean that everything else is
- 15:46Speaker 2: off the table. But that's the way it was presented.
- 15:49Speaker 9: Yeah, you can't based off of one team out of
- 15:51Speaker 9: thirty two, Like that's just such a weird thing to say.
- 15:53Speaker 9: Like if it was like five teams in the NFL
- 15:56Speaker 9: and one asked yeah, yeah maybe, but like thirty.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Two at the combine, Yeah, like you know last month.
- 16:02Speaker 3: I think the thing too, though, is with Minnesota, which
- 16:04Speaker 3: you know pretty much everybody does mock drafts and they're
- 16:07Speaker 3: looking for ways to keep them fresh. Is now trading
- 16:10Speaker 3: down with Minnesota and taking eleven and twenty three, And
- 16:12Speaker 3: it's like, man, if you just didn't need a quarterback,
- 16:14Speaker 3: this would be the perfect draft to get a tackle
- 16:17Speaker 3: and a wide receiver at eleven.
- 16:18Speaker 4: Let's let don't forget you're gonna add Justin Jefferson and let's.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Put our Kevin Costner hat on. Is there any strategy
- 16:27Speaker 2: that the Patriots can employ. You do the trade, you
- 16:30Speaker 2: take eleven and twenty three, but then you use that
- 16:32Speaker 2: to do something.
- 16:33Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I mean Arizona did that last year, and
- 16:36Speaker 5: someone else did it.
- 16:38Speaker 4: It was a Philly with Miami. Well, I forget the whole.
- 16:42Speaker 5: Before the they didn't made it. They made a trade
- 16:44Speaker 5: with Miami before the draft, like.
- 16:46Speaker 4: And then they but they traded down and then they
- 16:48Speaker 4: went back up. Right, it might thinking.
- 16:50Speaker 5: That I don't know, the one I remember is Areas.
- 16:52Speaker 4: That's what you were thinking, Like you think that Kevin
- 16:54Speaker 4: Costa they were going to trade down to eleven and
- 16:55Speaker 4: maybe slide back up to eight to do something.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, Arizona last year traded out of three
- 17:02Speaker 5: with Houston, who took will Anderson and then Arizona it
- 17:06Speaker 5: was at twelve, and then they traded back up to
- 17:10Speaker 5: take Paris Johnson somewhere in like the five to ten range.
- 17:13Speaker 5: I can't remember, like seven or something like that. So
- 17:15Speaker 5: it's been done before. It's not like totally out of
- 17:18Speaker 5: the realm of possibility. But you're probably looking at them
- 17:21Speaker 5: doing that to take Ulufashanu instead of Telusi Fugala or
- 17:27Speaker 5: Romadoonsay instead of Brian Thomas Junior like that. Those are
- 17:30Speaker 5: not times, so.
- 17:31Speaker 4: You still get the number one overall pick in the drafts.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Correct, But I'm just trying to work this out. So
- 17:36Speaker 2: let's just say that their intelligence tells them that Minnesota
- 17:40Speaker 2: wants JJ McCarthy and the Patriots don't want JJ McCarthy.
- 17:44Speaker 2: So okay, if you're going to use our pick to
- 17:47Speaker 2: get him, that means Drake may or the other guy
- 17:52Speaker 2: is still available, Jadon Daniels. So we moved back to
- 17:56Speaker 2: four with Arizona.
- 18:00Speaker 5: So basically you're trying to pull Jason Tatum, that's what
- 18:02Speaker 5: you're trying to do.
- 18:03Speaker 4: Yeah, like down and get the guy you wanted the
- 18:06Speaker 4: most anyway, Yes, correct.
- 18:08Speaker 9: Wait, but what if they only want JJ, because that's
- 18:10Speaker 9: where they think he's going to fallow.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Well, that's what you have to be sure of, you know, like, actually,
- 18:21Speaker 2: we didn't think he's going to be there. Yeah, that's
- 18:24Speaker 2: it is risky.
- 18:25Speaker 5: But the only way I see you doing that is
- 18:28Speaker 5: if you view them all the same. Yeah, if you
- 18:30Speaker 5: think there's no difference between J. J. McCarthy and Drake May,
- 18:33Speaker 5: and you're just happy with either one of them, then
- 18:35Speaker 5: you can move around a little bit and maybe still
- 18:37Speaker 5: get one of those two guys. But yeah, I would
- 18:41Speaker 5: not do that.
- 18:41Speaker 9: I couldn't trust them.
- 18:42Speaker 3: I just want the Drake. That's what I want.
- 18:44Speaker 9: The Drake.
- 18:45Speaker 2: So you're into May, just yeah, it's got to be May.
- 18:47Speaker 3: It's got to be May.
- 18:49Speaker 5: I say it right.
- 18:50Speaker 3: I know nothing against Daniels. He's just he's a little
- 18:54Speaker 3: bit younger. He's a little bit less experienced, which is
- 18:58Speaker 3: you know, that allows you to believe that you'll have
- 19:00Speaker 3: a little bit more time with him and there's more
- 19:02Speaker 3: development to be happening.
- 19:04Speaker 4: You know.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Evan was pointing out, you know it took jayde Daniels
- 19:06Speaker 3: a while. He's a little bit older. I mean, you
- 19:08Speaker 3: know it's I take him. I'm not gonna you know,
- 19:09Speaker 3: I'm not knocking him to say, I don't want him.
- 19:11Speaker 3: I'm just that's why my preference goes a little bit
- 19:13Speaker 3: towards Drake May.
- 19:14Speaker 9: What I will say with Jane Daniels, I love how
- 19:17Speaker 9: this time last year no one would have guessed that
- 19:20Speaker 9: Jane Daniels would have been a top three pick, right,
- 19:21Speaker 9: and seeing how much he was able to grow in
- 19:23Speaker 9: one year at LSU, that makes me excited about the
- 19:26Speaker 9: potential for him to keep.
- 19:28Speaker 3: But it scares me because she's twenty four. He's like
- 19:30Speaker 3: the PG at prep school who's just older than everybody
- 19:32Speaker 3: and he's more experienced, and you know, it's just mean.
- 19:34Speaker 5: There's a lot of it around it.
- 19:36Speaker 4: Like I see both sides of that. I see the
- 19:38Speaker 4: excitement from tomorrow and I see the trepidation. I mean,
- 19:41Speaker 4: Joe Burrow did it and we're wonderful maker, you know,
- 19:45Speaker 4: you know, guys just sort of come out of nowhere.
- 19:47Speaker 4: They have a great year, and then you know other guys,
- 19:51Speaker 4: you know, you look back.
- 19:51Speaker 5: And you're like, we probably shouldn't have fallen for that.
- 19:54Speaker 4: You know, the other two guys were you know, two
- 19:56Speaker 4: years ago, everybody thought that Williams and May were best
- 20:00Speaker 4: two quarterbacks in the class.
- 20:01Speaker 5: I think that that's a really good question for somebody
- 20:04Speaker 5: like Elliot Wolf is, like, how much do you put
- 20:07Speaker 5: into the twenty twenty two tape for Drake May? Because
- 20:10Speaker 5: in twenty two he has Josh Downs, he has a
- 20:12Speaker 5: little bit better offensive line, and he there was no
- 20:15Speaker 5: question coming out of that season that he was the
- 20:17Speaker 5: second best quarterback in this class. This year, he loses
- 20:20Speaker 5: some of those guys, their UNC offense, has a new
- 20:23Speaker 5: offensive coordinator, there's a lot going on around him that
- 20:25Speaker 5: isn't as good, and he wasn't as good it was
- 20:28Speaker 5: consistent this past season, whereas Jayden Daniels had the ascension.
- 20:32Speaker 5: So if you flip those two seasons talent, right, if
- 20:35Speaker 5: you flip those two seasons, then how to you know,
- 20:38Speaker 5: how do people feel about these two guys? And if
- 20:41Speaker 5: you put Jaden Daniels at UNC and you put Drake
- 20:44Speaker 5: May at LSU and Drake May is throwing them Elak
- 20:46Speaker 5: neighbors and Brian Thomas Junior, are we even having this
- 20:49Speaker 5: conversation that they're this close together? So I think that
- 20:52Speaker 5: those are the types of things that you have to
- 20:54Speaker 5: ask yourself with those two guys in particular, is how
- 20:57Speaker 5: much of Jaden Daniels's breakout had to do with the
- 21:00Speaker 5: fact that he's throwing to two first round picks at
- 21:02Speaker 5: wide receiver versus Drake May's best receiver is probably going
- 21:05Speaker 5: to be like a third or fourth round pick.
- 21:07Speaker 4: And again, same thing with Burrow, Like Borrow, was that
- 21:11Speaker 4: l s U that year that you know, record setting year.
- 21:14Speaker 5: Probably the best offensive stacked across the board?
- 21:17Speaker 4: You could you could certainly say, well, was it justin
- 21:19Speaker 4: Jefferson James or is it Joe Burrow? Turns out it
- 21:22Speaker 4: was all.
- 21:23Speaker 5: Of them except Terris Marshall. He's actually bad.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Sticking with quarterbacks. I think the Steelers made an interesting
- 21:31Speaker 2: move in bringing in Fields and now and with Russell Wilson.
- 21:34Speaker 2: I mean, I think it's a perfect situation. You play
- 21:37Speaker 2: Wilson this year, Fields gets another year to just sit
- 21:41Speaker 2: kind of decompress and and and watch, and then next
- 21:45Speaker 2: year you get rid of Wilson and you and you
- 21:47Speaker 2: play Fields.
- 21:48Speaker 4: So you have to sign you're going to pick the fifty.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 21:53Speaker 3: Yeah, that's he's the same as Max, So it's you know,
- 21:55Speaker 3: it's well, I.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Don't know, maybe in practice they'll be able to make
- 21:58Speaker 2: that evaluation if he's worth.
- 21:59Speaker 5: It to.
- 22:01Speaker 4: Do that before then.
- 22:03Speaker 9: Obviously I'm extremely biased, but that was a steal for
- 22:05Speaker 9: Pittsburgh to be able to get Justin Fields for a
- 22:07Speaker 9: six round pick next year. Like if you look at
- 22:10Speaker 9: their like people were laughing at their quarterback room from
- 22:13Speaker 9: last season and to see how they completely flipped it
- 22:15Speaker 9: to those two guys this year.
- 22:18Speaker 4: Just to be clear, if he plays, it's a fourth
- 22:20Speaker 4: round pick. Oh wow, he plays half the If he
- 22:22Speaker 4: plays half the snaps.
- 22:24Speaker 5: Yeah, so that's still pretty good.
- 22:25Speaker 4: Otherwise, if he doesn't play, then you traded the sixth
- 22:28Speaker 4: round pick for a backup quarterback.
- 22:30Speaker 5: Which is yeah, that's normal.
- 22:32Speaker 4: I never said, but if he plays, it's going to
- 22:33Speaker 4: be a higher pick.
- 22:34Speaker 3: I never really sense the unrest with Kenny Pickett, though,
- 22:36Speaker 3: Is that something I just like, I didn't realize that
- 22:39Speaker 3: he was.
- 22:39Speaker 5: That Jonesy situation there the gloves.
- 22:43Speaker 4: I think he got a little bit bent out of
- 22:44Speaker 4: shape late last season when he got hurt, and that's
- 22:47Speaker 4: why Mason Rudolph started playing. And then when he was.
- 22:50Speaker 5: Healthy, they're like, yeah, you know, we're doing alright with
- 22:53Speaker 5: Mason Rudolph.
- 22:54Speaker 4: Why don't you sit over there? And I think he
- 22:56Speaker 4: was like, Okay.
- 22:57Speaker 5: He got of he got a rod deal, you know,
- 23:00Speaker 5: bit bad coordinator, not a ton of talent around him
- 23:03Speaker 5: in certain spots, like they had good receivers always in Pittsburgh,
- 23:06Speaker 5: but offensive line issues. But you know, Matt Canada should
- 23:10Speaker 5: not have been an NFL offensive coordinator and he was
- 23:12Speaker 5: there for two years, so that was tough. But I
- 23:16Speaker 5: love it for the Steelers. I'm not losing any sleep
- 23:18Speaker 5: over the fact that the Patriots didn't trade for Justin Fields.
- 23:21Speaker 5: The Steelers are not in a position to draft one
- 23:23Speaker 5: of the quarterbacks this year, so they are taking their
- 23:26Speaker 5: upside swing on Justin Fields versus the Patriots have the
- 23:29Speaker 5: third overall pick. I'd much rather take Drake may or
- 23:32Speaker 5: Jaden Daniels than put my eggs in the Justin Field's basket.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I totally agree. I like it a lot for
- 23:39Speaker 4: the Steelers. I think they're also too, you know, sort
- 23:41Speaker 4: of similarly mobile athletic kind of quarterbacks, although Wilson doesn't
- 23:45Speaker 4: move anywhere near as much and as well as he
- 23:47Speaker 4: used to, so I think there's some replication there if
- 23:50Speaker 4: you need your backup quarterback. But Tomaraw tell Uncle Mike
- 23:54Speaker 4: that I think it's a mistake. Some of the reports
- 23:57Speaker 4: have come out that Pittsburgh is out of me, and
- 24:00Speaker 4: I don't know if it's true with Pittsburgh Post Gazette
- 24:03Speaker 4: supposedly from inside the organization, it is absolutely not a competition, right,
- 24:07Speaker 4: It's Russell Wilson's job. I think that's a big time mistake,
- 24:10Speaker 4: and I just hope that they're trying to.
- 24:12Speaker 5: Appease a guy who, by all accounts needs to be
- 24:15Speaker 5: appeased at all times, and Wilson.
- 24:18Speaker 9: I did think it was interesting that the report came
- 24:20Speaker 9: out that as soon as they made the trade that
- 24:22Speaker 9: Uncle Mike texted him allegedly and said, hey, you're going
- 24:25Speaker 9: to be the starter. I think that was interesting. I
- 24:27Speaker 9: couldn't tell if it was because can he Pickett when
- 24:30Speaker 9: he found out that Russell was coming in that he
- 24:32Speaker 9: was like, Okay, I want to leave. I don't know
- 24:33Speaker 9: if it was to stop any turmoil that was going
- 24:36Speaker 9: to be in that locker room and just wanted to
- 24:38Speaker 9: make it clear communication.
- 24:40Speaker 4: I just hope that if they go through the off
- 24:42Speaker 4: season program and they get into OTAs in mini camp
- 24:45Speaker 4: and it's clear that Justin Fields is better than Russell Wilson,
- 24:49Speaker 4: I would hope that they say yeah, I know what
- 24:51Speaker 4: we said, this guy's been better than you. He's going
- 24:54Speaker 4: to play.
- 24:54Speaker 3: I think there's some psychology going on there too, though,
- 24:56Speaker 3: with Fields of you're the backup now and what he got, so,
- 24:59Speaker 3: I mean, sure he's clearly aware of where he's at
- 25:01Speaker 3: in terms of potentially hitting free agency next year or
- 25:04Speaker 3: you know, does he want and wasn't he from Fields
- 25:06Speaker 3: around there? I think because he have like family, isn't
- 25:09Speaker 3: I think?
- 25:10Speaker 2: I know, I know he pulled a ZAPPI he started
- 25:14Speaker 2: posting some workout videos. Justin Fields is soious.
- 25:18Speaker 5: I just feel like Justin Fields has we were all
- 25:23Speaker 5: wrong about Justin Fields in the draft. I had him
- 25:25Speaker 5: as QB two. Most people had him as QB two.
- 25:28Speaker 5: He's not good. We were all wrong. It wasn't QB
- 25:31Speaker 5: too though, right, it doesn't mean he wasn't QB two,
- 25:34Speaker 5: But like we all just got to let go of
- 25:35Speaker 5: the dream of Justin Fields.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Little bit.
- 25:41Speaker 5: But that's but that's what so many people in the
- 25:43Speaker 5: media are being stubborn on it, Like everybody is still
- 25:47Speaker 5: believing in Justin Fields and his film is just not good,
- 25:50Speaker 5: Like it's just.
- 25:52Speaker 9: How much of that though was also bad coaching as well?
- 25:54Speaker 9: Because in the same situation as Kenny Pickett. He had
- 25:57Speaker 9: horrible coaching in Chicago as well. And before they got
- 25:59Speaker 9: DJ or how many weapons did he really have?
- 26:01Speaker 5: Okay, but last year they had DJ Moore, Darnell Moody
- 26:04Speaker 5: and Cole Comet. Those are three legitimate NFL weapons. But
- 26:08Speaker 5: before that he had Yeah, But like he had it,
- 26:10Speaker 5: he had it all together last year like last year
- 26:12Speaker 5: should have been.
- 26:12Speaker 4: But I thought he was decent last year, you know,
- 26:14Speaker 4: down the stretch was the way they finished the season.
- 26:17Speaker 4: I thought there was some promise there.
- 26:18Speaker 5: It's all That's why I'm kind of holding out home.
- 26:20Speaker 5: His his issues are all similar to Jayden Daniels' issues
- 26:23Speaker 5: as a passer, and it's just timing, progression, speed, decision,
- 26:27Speaker 5: making it the pocket and that that it's at the
- 26:31Speaker 5: end of the day that that's that's quarterbacking. As much
- 26:33Speaker 5: as we make it all this all these you know,
- 26:35Speaker 5: crazy throws and you know backfoot shots and things like that,
- 26:38Speaker 5: at the end of the day, you have to be
- 26:40Speaker 5: able to do that.
- 26:41Speaker 2: He's got to be a.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Great He's got the traits that Mac doesn't have, you know,
- 26:43Speaker 3: And that's why I think the people still, you know,
- 26:45Speaker 3: believe in him. I mean, we saw it first hand
- 26:47Speaker 3: out here what he can do.
- 26:49Speaker 2: All right, should we turn it to the listeners unless
- 26:51Speaker 2: you have anything else you want to put on the table.
- 26:53Speaker 3: I was just going to say one thing. I saw
- 26:54Speaker 3: that somebody did a little study, which I always like,
- 26:57Speaker 3: you know, just what percentage of quarterbacks strapped did a
- 27:00Speaker 3: certain portions of the first round, and you know how
- 27:02Speaker 3: many of them reached the playoffs? And I think it
- 27:04Speaker 3: was fifty eight percent. Top five quarterbacks fifty eight percent
- 27:08Speaker 3: go on to make a playoff game. So it seems
- 27:11Speaker 3: like a lot it does. It's just but you know,
- 27:12Speaker 3: tell me, Mill, it's still even in the top five.
- 27:15Speaker 3: It's it's a little bit of a you know, a
- 27:17Speaker 3: little bit of a coin flip with these guys.
- 27:19Speaker 5: And I think those are pretty good odds.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Yeah, from when you hear that they're all busts and
- 27:24Speaker 4: then you find out that it's almost sixty percent of
- 27:26Speaker 4: those guys at least make the playoffs. You know, I
- 27:28Speaker 4: think a lot of people, as an example, would count
- 27:30Speaker 4: Baker Mayfield as a bust. Yeah, well he took two
- 27:34Speaker 4: different teams to the playoffs.
- 27:35Speaker 5: Well, I certainly hear a lot about Trevor Lawrence being
- 27:38Speaker 5: a bust. Like absolutely. I tweeted the other day that
- 27:40Speaker 5: it thumbs up on Trevor Lawrence and people are like,
- 27:42Speaker 5: why are we giving It's like because he's an NFL quarterback,
- 27:44Speaker 5: Like he's a starting quarterback in the league.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Whether I still take it, but I know he's going.
- 27:48Speaker 4: To say he's had a modicum of success. He finished
- 27:51Speaker 4: the opposite of justin Fields. He finished last year really slow,
- 27:54Speaker 4: but it was clear that that ankle injury that he
- 27:56Speaker 4: suffered and run a night game impacted the rest of
- 27:59Speaker 4: his season.
- 28:00Speaker 5: Yeah, it's just there's a conversation now to sort of
- 28:03Speaker 5: what Deuce was saying about quarterback evaluations in the league.
- 28:08Speaker 5: Saw Bucky Brooks tweeting about it. I think maybe Daniel
- 28:10Speaker 5: Jeremiah started it of just like why is it so
- 28:14Speaker 5: difficult to evaluate that position and why is it so
- 28:17Speaker 5: difficult to develop that position in the league? And it's
- 28:20Speaker 5: an interesting chicken or the egg. Is it that these
- 28:22Speaker 5: guys aren't very talented or is it that, you know,
- 28:25Speaker 5: the coaching and the infrastructure and the personnel department and
- 28:28Speaker 5: these teams all fail them. And I think a lot
- 28:31Speaker 5: of people feel like the NFL has a development problem
- 28:35Speaker 5: at the quarterback position, because all these guys are good
- 28:37Speaker 5: in college, and they're good in high school and then
- 28:40Speaker 5: they get to the NFL and they can't play. And
- 28:42Speaker 5: so at some point you have to stop blaming the
- 28:44Speaker 5: players and start thinking about what are the teams doing
- 28:47Speaker 5: wrong to develop these guys.
- 28:48Speaker 9: Yeah, especially like when you look at that whole list
- 28:50Speaker 9: of the twenty twenty one quarterbacks and you're like, how
- 28:52Speaker 9: did all of them but Trevor Lawrence fail? Like it's
- 28:55Speaker 9: just it's just weird when you look at the whole
- 28:57Speaker 9: list and it's like, how did that happen to me?
- 28:59Speaker 2: That's that's my thing is like I think our bar
- 29:03Speaker 2: for evaluating these quarterbacks, you know, is determined by the crop,
- 29:09Speaker 2: and I think like we think every year there has
- 29:12Speaker 2: to be good quarterbacks coming out of the draft, and
- 29:14Speaker 2: that doesn't have to be the case. You know.
- 29:16Speaker 4: Well, and it's probably not a coincidence that the year
- 29:20Speaker 4: after that, which was a really really bad first round, right,
- 29:23Speaker 4: you just go one for five. The year after that,
- 29:26Speaker 4: there's only one guy chosen in the first round. So
- 29:28Speaker 4: I think the teams probably did a better job of
- 29:31Speaker 4: saying I'm not going to force the pick I'm not
- 29:33Speaker 4: going to make Kenny pick at a top five pick
- 29:35Speaker 4: just because he's the best quarterback in the class. But
- 29:38Speaker 4: it also probably is just kind of, you know, circumstantial.
- 29:43Speaker 4: It comes a year after five different teams took it.
- 29:45Speaker 4: No one's going to pull the plug on a rookie
- 29:47Speaker 4: immediately unless it's like JaMarcus Russell bad, you know, or
- 29:51Speaker 4: Ryan Leaf bad.
- 29:52Speaker 7: You know.
- 29:52Speaker 4: There's not too many guys that fail that badly right
- 29:56Speaker 4: away that you're like, already look in the next year
- 29:58Speaker 4: for another quarterback. I was kind of well subdue.
- 30:01Speaker 3: Where I was going with it. It's just teams that
- 30:04Speaker 3: we need a quarterback. We're picking in the late first round,
- 30:07Speaker 3: and we don't really believe in Michael Pennox. But Michael
- 30:09Speaker 3: Pennix is there, right, And it's that like to have
- 30:12Speaker 3: the the you know, the courage to say we don't
- 30:16Speaker 3: really believe in him, even though that we need a
- 30:17Speaker 3: quarterback and there's really no one else after him. It's great,
- 30:20Speaker 3: so to speak, like why how do you get to
- 30:22Speaker 3: that point?
- 30:22Speaker 4: And somehow teams, I think, talk themselves into well, it's
- 30:25Speaker 4: twenty eight, Yeah, who cares, Like, well, I do you know,
- 30:31Speaker 4: you can get a really good player at twenty eight,
- 30:32Speaker 4: especially if a lot of quarterbacks are taken, because that
- 30:36Speaker 4: means all the rest of the positions haven't been picked
- 30:38Speaker 4: at as much as they probably should have been.
- 30:41Speaker 2: It's the whole risk reward thing. You know, if he pops,
- 30:44Speaker 2: we got a bargain. If he doesn't, you know, yeah, or.
- 30:48Speaker 4: But I don't know why. It's not like if the
- 30:50Speaker 4: wide receiver we take a twenty eight pops, we have
- 30:52Speaker 4: a bargain.
- 30:53Speaker 9: That's what I was going to say. I was going
- 30:55Speaker 9: to say, to get a good wide receiver at twenty eight,
- 30:57Speaker 9: I'd rather take that. Start building the pieces so that
- 30:59Speaker 9: one I have a quarterback that I'm sure about and
- 31:02Speaker 9: select that.
- 31:02Speaker 5: I just think it's easy for us to sit here
- 31:05Speaker 5: and be patient because.
- 31:07Speaker 3: Jobs are on the line.
- 31:08Speaker 5: Our jobs aren't on the line, and we're hopefully you
- 31:12Speaker 5: know we're talking about I get it, but I think
- 31:16Speaker 5: that you know, that's the big A big thing too.
- 31:18Speaker 5: I feel like is just you might only have a
- 31:21Speaker 5: couple of years to figure it out. If you're an
- 31:23Speaker 5: Elliott Wolf, right, Like, you're not going to get ten
- 31:25Speaker 5: years to just keep on kicking the can down the
- 31:27Speaker 5: road on the quarterback. So at some point you have
- 31:30Speaker 5: to take a swing. And I think a lot of
- 31:31Speaker 5: these teams just get into these positions where it's like,
- 31:34Speaker 5: all right, well we've you know, we've been doing this
- 31:36Speaker 5: for a couple of years. We're still don't have the quarterback.
- 31:38Speaker 5: We got to take the swing, you know, Nick, Cassio
- 31:40Speaker 5: and Houston picked the right guy. But that was your
- 31:43Speaker 5: three for him. If he doesn't pick c J. Stroud
- 31:46Speaker 5: or if ends up being a bust, does Nick have
- 31:50Speaker 5: a job right now?
- 31:51Speaker 2: Like?
- 31:51Speaker 5: Probably not, But that's like.
- 31:52Speaker 3: You know, it's just if you if the person making
- 31:55Speaker 3: the pick in their heart of hearts really doesn't love
- 31:57Speaker 3: the player, you know, and it's just you know, it's
- 32:00Speaker 3: that tipping point.
- 32:01Speaker 5: Of isn't that what happened here with Mac?
- 32:03Speaker 4: Probably?
- 32:04Speaker 5: Yeah, Like I don't mean, I don't think Bill was
- 32:06Speaker 5: in love with Mac Jones.
- 32:07Speaker 3: He's he's he's kind of like a great example of that.
- 32:10Speaker 4: I think he was with him.
- 32:11Speaker 2: But if you would think though that with his relationship
- 32:15Speaker 2: to sab And, he would have gotten solid scouting.
- 32:17Speaker 9: But what if you love the player but you don't
- 32:19Speaker 9: have the right developer? Yeah, so what if that was
- 32:22Speaker 9: the pick, but then you just didn't have the right, right.
- 32:25Speaker 5: I think that happens to like, you know, the first
- 32:28Speaker 5: year him.
- 32:29Speaker 4: But I think it has.
- 32:30Speaker 2: First year the quarterback does okay in the second year,
- 32:33Speaker 2: like his coordinator is a guy from the defense, Like, like,
- 32:36Speaker 2: you're not.
- 32:37Speaker 4: Allowed to do that, after the way you talked in
- 32:40Speaker 4: the last years, you're allowed to make those kind.
- 32:42Speaker 5: Of you thinks you're allowed to do.
- 32:48Speaker 2: There is that. I still think we should thank Matt Patricia.
- 32:53Speaker 2: He didn't lobby for the job. He was asked to do.
- 32:55Speaker 5: It, and you don't know that he might have lobbied for.
- 32:58Speaker 2: It no fault of his own. Let's see Matt Framihan's
- 33:02Speaker 2: fed up. Uh oh, Next person who tells me the
- 33:05Speaker 2: Patriots don't need to spend a lot this offseason because
- 33:08Speaker 2: they're gonna be bad. Shit, Ask the players and coaches
- 33:11Speaker 2: on the team what they think of that. The careers
- 33:13Speaker 2: of players and coaches are short in this league, especially
- 33:15Speaker 2: if you keep losing because the rest of the league
- 33:18Speaker 2: is watching. I'm disappointed in this free agency period, and
- 33:21Speaker 2: I believe this team is doing a lot of wishing,
- 33:24Speaker 2: especially with the third pick coming up in the draft,
- 33:28Speaker 2: so they're doing a lot of wishing.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Yeah, this might be going down a rabbit hole. I
- 33:32Speaker 3: don't want to go down, but I think I saw
- 33:34Speaker 3: somebody kind of make the comparison. And I'm not trying
- 33:37Speaker 3: to make the saying that this team will go to
- 33:39Speaker 3: the super Bowl next year, but it does kind of
- 33:41Speaker 3: smell a little bit like the one Patriots free agency
- 33:43Speaker 3: class to me, of and certainly not even the external guys.
- 33:47Speaker 3: It was almost like they signed their own guys that
- 33:49Speaker 3: were kind of the infony. Jennings is not that he's
- 33:51Speaker 3: going to be Mike Frable, but he was kind of
- 33:53Speaker 3: like the third man, rotational linebacker that didn't get a
- 33:57Speaker 3: ton of playing time. I don't know, I just see
- 33:59Speaker 3: some parallels, and I think right now it's really a
- 34:01Speaker 3: hot button topic to talk about Bill Belichick and how
- 34:04Speaker 3: he would build the team, But I don't think that
- 34:07Speaker 3: he was necessarily wrong in two thousand and one to
- 34:09Speaker 3: approach it the way that he did, to remake that team,
- 34:11Speaker 3: to reestablish kind of a new cores and then go
- 34:15Speaker 3: into the draft and draft you know Richard Seymour who
- 34:18Speaker 3: was a future Hall of Famer, Matt Light who stepped
- 34:20Speaker 3: right at left tackle. But I think what stands out
- 34:23Speaker 3: to me is the Patriots They didn't think they were
- 34:24Speaker 3: there in O one. They were surprised that that team
- 34:27Speaker 3: got there. They knew that they had to completely change things.
- 34:30Speaker 3: That super Bowl was a surprise. I'm not trying to
- 34:32Speaker 3: sell the emailer that they're going to the super Bowl
- 34:34Speaker 3: this year, but I think that there is some element
- 34:36Speaker 3: to team building that they're taking from that two thousand
- 34:38Speaker 3: and one kind of philosophy.
- 34:39Speaker 4: Yeah. I don't completely disagree with you, but I think
- 34:43Speaker 4: that this is more about the retain that they wanted
- 34:45Speaker 4: no put. They wanted to get rid of as many
- 34:48Speaker 4: players as they like. They had a lot of older
- 34:51Speaker 4: guys that they didn't you know, Chris Slade, Ben Coates,
- 34:55Speaker 4: Bruce Armstrong over the two thousand and two thousand and
- 34:58Speaker 4: one seasons that I'm gonna use both. I'm just the
- 35:01Speaker 4: start of the Belichick So they weren't all in two
- 35:04Speaker 4: thousand and one, but they wanted to move past some
- 35:06Speaker 4: of those guys. They had an awful lot of talent
- 35:09Speaker 4: on that team coming back that people do not remember.
- 35:11Speaker 4: It was a waiver wire super Bowl title. But you
- 35:16Speaker 4: tell me where Ty law Teddy Bruski, Willie McGinnis, Lawyer Malloy,
- 35:23Speaker 4: Troy Brown, Ted Johnson. They didn't have those guys aren't
- 35:29Speaker 4: on this.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Roster, but that.
- 35:31Speaker 4: Was already here.
- 35:32Speaker 3: Like if I was gonna make the argument of not
- 35:35Speaker 3: to say Gonzalez is ty Law, but they certainly have
- 35:37Speaker 3: some talent on defense, and that offense wasn't good different games.
- 35:41Speaker 4: But like I worry a little bit about the defense
- 35:44Speaker 4: with Bill Belichick gone, to be honest.
- 35:46Speaker 2: With you, I do too.
- 35:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think they have the players that are
- 35:49Speaker 4: just gonna win matchups. I think they were putting really
- 35:52Speaker 4: good spots.
- 35:53Speaker 2: I agree.
- 35:53Speaker 4: Now if that wasn't Bill Belichick and it was more
- 35:55Speaker 4: Gerrod Mayo and DeMarcus Covington, great, I think the defense
- 35:59Speaker 4: would be solid, right, they might they might miss something more,
- 36:02Speaker 4: you know, because I don't think man for man, that
- 36:04Speaker 4: was a great defense.
- 36:05Speaker 1: No.
- 36:05Speaker 2: I think they, you know, like Bill Azo has done.
- 36:08Speaker 2: I think they game plan really well when at you know,
- 36:11Speaker 2: the opponent's offensive weaknesses really well matched up, you know,
- 36:14Speaker 2: figured out the matchups from play to play almost or
- 36:18Speaker 2: series the series anyway, And you gotta believe a lot
- 36:22Speaker 2: of that was Bill, you know, or and how much
- 36:25Speaker 2: of it was Steve you know, So you hope that
- 36:28Speaker 2: it carried on to DeMarcus and Girod But you don't
- 36:32Speaker 2: know this, there's no guarantees there.
- 36:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I am with Mike Doa. They're pretty talented on defense,
- 36:38Speaker 5: Like you look at at their not just their their starters,
- 36:41Speaker 5: but they're too deep. Is as deep as any team
- 36:44Speaker 5: in the league.
- 36:44Speaker 4: Like that, I mean, I guess we can disagree on that.
- 36:48Speaker 5: I mean, I'm not saying that their ty Law and
- 36:50Speaker 5: in Richard Seymour, but like in terms of comparing it
- 36:53Speaker 5: to the rest of the league, I mean, they're they
- 36:55Speaker 5: have They're pretty solid on defense in pretty much every area.
- 36:58Speaker 5: Like there's where's their week on defense? Maybe free safety,
- 37:01Speaker 5: Like I guess is if you don't really love those
- 37:04Speaker 5: safeties back there, I don't know.
- 37:07Speaker 4: Up front, they have Christian Barmore, like Diatrich Wise is
- 37:11Speaker 4: better than guys around the league, Jowant Bentley's better than
- 37:14Speaker 4: guys around the league. Of lying tovies better than guys
- 37:16Speaker 4: around the league. It's I'm not saying that.
- 37:21Speaker 5: I know, I'm not saying its Man Warner, but like
- 37:23Speaker 5: in terms of what they do in the system, within
- 37:25Speaker 5: the scheme that they're playing now that I.
- 37:27Speaker 4: Agree with they I'd be curious to see if that
- 37:30Speaker 4: system remains in place, That's what I'm concerned about.
- 37:32Speaker 5: That's fair.
- 37:33Speaker 4: I think they were. They were very well coached and
- 37:36Speaker 4: very well schooled. I don't think man for man. I
- 37:38Speaker 4: think Gonzales has a chance to be that. I think
- 37:41Speaker 4: he has a chance to be one of those guys
- 37:42Speaker 4: that any team would say, oh, I'd like Christian. I
- 37:46Speaker 4: think Barmore is one of those guys. I think he
- 37:48Speaker 4: is a guy that any team would say, well, I'll
- 37:50Speaker 4: take him as an intern.
- 37:51Speaker 5: And I still think, even though he's getting a little
- 37:53Speaker 5: bit older, I still think Judon is one.
- 37:54Speaker 7: Of those guys.
- 37:55Speaker 5: So if you're talking about you go into next year,
- 37:58Speaker 5: assuming Judon's here, and you have three guys that are
- 38:01Speaker 5: blue chip players on the defensive side of the ball, like,
- 38:03Speaker 5: that's not It's not bad. It's not bad at all.
- 38:06Speaker 5: I mean there's not. I just there are not a
- 38:07Speaker 5: lot of defenses around the league that have that.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Yeah, And you know, I think one of the sneaky
- 38:12Speaker 2: good resignings they had I know you'll probably kill is
- 38:15Speaker 2: Anthony Jennings. I think I think he's gotten better. He's
- 38:20Speaker 2: he's been in an upwards trajectory. I think he can
- 38:23Speaker 2: play against the run. I think he's decent against their
- 38:25Speaker 2: you know, rushing as well. I think he's a pretty
- 38:28Speaker 2: versatile player and I'm glad they brought him back.
- 38:30Speaker 3: I've said that's abouts, you know, one of my for
- 38:32Speaker 3: better or words, that's one of my favorite signings. But
- 38:35Speaker 3: I you know, I think it is worth pointing out
- 38:37Speaker 3: though that that this team has really struggled to stop
- 38:40Speaker 3: Josh Allen on defense, that has really struggled to stop
- 38:43Speaker 3: to attack of Iloa. So, you know, I'm not I
- 38:47Speaker 3: think Paul is totally right. I think they have some
- 38:49Speaker 3: things on defense that they need to sort out. But
- 38:51Speaker 3: when we're talking about Bill and coming up with the
- 38:53Speaker 3: secret sauce to beat those teams, they haven't really been
- 38:56Speaker 3: able to find that secret sauce. Whether it's coaching, whether
- 38:59Speaker 3: it's players, so whatever it is, that's something.
- 39:01Speaker 5: Miami is, especially Buffalo, they've had, you know, they had
- 39:03Speaker 5: to win here last year, and I think a lot
- 39:05Speaker 5: of that stems from you don't have an offense that
- 39:08Speaker 5: can keep up with the Bills and at the end
- 39:10Speaker 5: of the day, he's going to score twenty four points.
- 39:12Speaker 5: So if they did do better, I thought in the
- 39:13Speaker 5: two games against Buffalo this patch Miami, they have no
- 39:17Speaker 5: chance against mine.
- 39:18Speaker 4: That might have been a buffalo thing because they weren't
- 39:20Speaker 4: quite as explosive this year as they have been.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but they got nothing on Miami.
- 39:25Speaker 7: Don't.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Tyler in New York City says, I do not think
- 39:28Speaker 2: the Patriots will take a quarterback with the third overall
- 39:31Speaker 2: During the free agency this year, Mayo and Wolf were
- 39:33Speaker 2: clear that they wanted a big weapon in this offense,
- 39:36Speaker 2: and we're unable to get any. Two straight years. We
- 39:38Speaker 2: have lost a wide receiver bidding war to the Titans.
- 39:41Speaker 2: For whatever reason, New England, whether under Bill Belichick drawn
- 39:44Speaker 2: Mayo is unable to attract star power at that position.
- 39:48Speaker 2: But do you know where you can get guaranteed star
- 39:52Speaker 2: power at the wide receiver position With the number three
- 39:54Speaker 2: overall pick, you don't even have to compete with the Titans.
- 39:57Speaker 2: If Mayo and Wolf are leery about adding a corp
- 40:00Speaker 2: back to a roster that has so many holes, none
- 40:02Speaker 2: of which were plugged or addressed at all in free agency,
- 40:05Speaker 2: and have enough self awareness to know that they can't
- 40:08Speaker 2: attract star power at the moment, then they need to
- 40:11Speaker 2: draft some star power, whether it's MHGT MHJ at three
- 40:16Speaker 2: or someone else at six or eleven. I think the
- 40:19Speaker 2: Patriots are going to take the safe star power and
- 40:22Speaker 2: get the QB later.
- 40:24Speaker 4: It's not safe star power. There's no such thing like
- 40:30Speaker 4: he could be the best player in the draft. Orm
- 40:32Speaker 4: elite neighbors could be. As Daniel Jeremiah tweeted yesterday. So
- 40:36Speaker 4: what if he's the best receiver and you took Harrison.
- 40:40Speaker 4: Maybe he's great anyway, Maybe you got the two. You know,
- 40:43Speaker 4: maybe they turn out to be the two best players
- 40:44Speaker 4: in the draft and no one cares. It won't matter
- 40:47Speaker 4: if you don't have anybody to throw it to him though.
- 40:49Speaker 3: That's the bottom line for me. I've said it one
- 40:51Speaker 3: hundred times and I'll probably say it. These two guys
- 40:53Speaker 3: are worth missing on. Like if they draft Jadon Daniels
- 40:55Speaker 3: or Drake May, it doesn't work. They can't figure it
- 40:58Speaker 3: out for whatever reason. Okay, you know, but I think
- 41:01Speaker 3: they're both worst.
- 41:02Speaker 5: Well, I'll tell you a line of thoughts.
- 41:03Speaker 4: Sorry, Yev. You know, just doing the mail bag this week,
- 41:08Speaker 4: and there were a lot of questions this week. I mean,
- 41:10Speaker 4: obviously this draft, that's you know, you have the third
- 41:13Speaker 4: pick of the draft. But I was surprised. There's a
- 41:16Speaker 4: tenor among the questions that are sort of hopeful about
- 41:22Speaker 4: Jacoby Brissett that I just don't I just don't understand.
- 41:25Speaker 5: Oh, you should read my film review tomorrow.
- 41:27Speaker 4: I just, I really just don't understand how anybody could
- 41:31Speaker 4: have watched the last seven years of Jacoby Watch.
- 41:35Speaker 5: Him in Cleveland in twenty two with this coaching staff,
- 41:38Speaker 5: did I Yeah, yeah, I watched him against the Patriots,
- 41:41Speaker 5: one of the worst games I've seen. So that's one
- 41:42Speaker 5: game he started eleven of them. That was his worst
- 41:45Speaker 5: game by far.
- 41:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I watched him underthrow about seventeen wide
- 41:48Speaker 4: open guys in that game, starting with like the second
- 41:50Speaker 4: play of the game.
- 41:51Speaker 5: He did not play well.
- 41:52Speaker 3: Now that's fair, and he.
- 41:53Speaker 5: Is below five hundred for seven years. He's never had
- 41:56Speaker 5: a winning season. He's not an odning team, not one.
- 42:00Speaker 5: Shaan Watson did so much better in twenty twenty two,
- 42:02Speaker 5: when for then Jacoby Ressett.
- 42:05Speaker 4: It's not about Deshaun Watson'm talking about Jacoby Brissett. When
- 42:07Speaker 4: he plays, he doesn't play well. Yeah, played to Shawn Watson. Okay, great, Okay,
- 42:11Speaker 4: keep going to Sean Watson's not on the team. I
- 42:14Speaker 4: Sehn Watson's in Cleveland. I'm talking about the Patriots quarterback.
- 42:17Speaker 4: There's a tenor that I that I felt, and maybe
- 42:20Speaker 4: Evan got them started based on this argument.
- 42:23Speaker 5: He's better than I think, he's better than you think.
- 42:27Speaker 5: That's all.
- 42:28Speaker 4: I think he's worse than people think. I think people
- 42:30Speaker 4: haven't watched him. I think I just think people haven't
- 42:34Speaker 4: watched him, and they just think that the Patriots took
- 42:36Speaker 4: him and he's got the magic sauce or I just
- 42:38Speaker 4: don't think he's a very good player. He's a He's
- 42:40Speaker 4: a stop gap who I would hope plays about five
- 42:45Speaker 4: or six games max, and then whoever we pick at
- 42:47Speaker 4: three gets plugged in.
- 42:50Speaker 5: You think that's my ideal.
- 42:51Speaker 9: I have seen this, like random spark of hope from people,
- 42:54Speaker 9: like I was a salon or something and someone's like,
- 42:58Speaker 9: my husband said, the Patriots signed a quarterback, and I
- 43:00Speaker 9: was confused by the enthusiasm, Like she was really excited.
- 43:03Speaker 5: People don't see quarterback yeah.
- 43:06Speaker 9: And I was like, I could see why you could
- 43:08Speaker 9: be happy, like to have a competent guy back out there.
- 43:11Speaker 5: But he's not the answer. No, it's just one. No
- 43:14Speaker 5: one is saying he's the I don't think he's anymore.
- 43:16Speaker 2: People are He's what.
- 43:19Speaker 5: I'm trying to talk. We're talking themselves into it.
- 43:21Speaker 2: On the field, he's nothing more than what Paul said,
- 43:24Speaker 2: a stop gap. However, however, fault, did you hear what
- 43:29Speaker 2: I just said?
- 43:29Speaker 5: Yeah, people think he's a stop gap.
- 43:31Speaker 2: However, no, I think on the field he's nothing more
- 43:33Speaker 2: than a stop gap. However, in the quarterback room, he
- 43:38Speaker 2: elevates that room immediately in terms of quality. Like everybody
- 43:42Speaker 2: who has worked with him says how amazing he is
- 43:45Speaker 2: as a as a teammate and a person. And I think, again,
- 43:49Speaker 2: I know this is not sexy to talk about, but
- 43:52Speaker 2: Gerard has to worry about the locker room. That's part
- 43:55Speaker 2: of his job. And you're bringing in a quality person
- 43:58Speaker 2: who can be a stop gap into the quarterback room
- 44:01Speaker 2: that was in hav It. It was not talking. It
- 44:06Speaker 2: was a terrible room last year. So right there, he's
- 44:09Speaker 2: upgraded at least the room if you bring in if
- 44:12Speaker 2: the plan is to bring any young quarterback, that's a must.
- 44:15Speaker 2: You need a veteran presence in there that's a quality person.
- 44:19Speaker 2: And for that reason, I think it was a good signing.
- 44:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I just think that He's more than just a
- 44:24Speaker 5: clipboard holder. That's all. Like, I agree with you one
- 44:27Speaker 5: hundred percent. And I made that point in the film
- 44:30Speaker 5: review I'm publishing tomorrow about him, that yes, there's good
- 44:33Speaker 5: habits that he had brings to the table, whether it's
- 44:36Speaker 5: during the week even in game, like you see him
- 44:38Speaker 5: blocking forty yards downfield on reverses and stuff like that. Now,
- 44:41Speaker 5: I don't want, you know, the first, you know, the
- 44:43Speaker 5: third overall pick to necessarily do that, but it's the
- 44:45Speaker 5: effort thing, right that he puts out there every single day.
- 44:48Speaker 5: I think that Jacoby Presset's better than Paul does. That's it.
- 44:51Speaker 5: You know. You look at twenty twenty two in this
- 44:53Speaker 5: offense with Alex van Pelt with the Browns, he was
- 44:56Speaker 5: eighth in QBR. He's basically a top fifteen to sixteen
- 45:01Speaker 5: quarterback in the league. During his starts with the Cleveland Browns. Statistically,
- 45:04Speaker 5: he's eighth in QBR, he's twelfth in PFF grade, he
- 45:07Speaker 5: was tenth in EPA per dropback. Like, all the numbers
- 45:10Speaker 5: are right there telling you that this guy was playing
- 45:13Speaker 5: well for the Browns. And now is he the answer?
- 45:16Speaker 5: Is he a long term solution at the position? Of
- 45:18Speaker 5: course not. But the point is is that he's a
- 45:20Speaker 5: very capable player in the role that they're going to
- 45:23Speaker 5: ask him to play.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Do you think that those numbers can be kind of
- 45:27Speaker 2: just managed by being conservative.
- 45:29Speaker 5: No, because he threw a lot of big time throws
- 45:32Speaker 5: down the field too.
- 45:34Speaker 2: I mean, like it, just what about game winning drives?
- 45:37Speaker 5: That was his one achilles, his one achilles. He had
- 45:40Speaker 5: two games, one against the Jets, one against the Dolphins, ironically,
- 45:44Speaker 5: where he threw picks on game winning drive attempts. One
- 45:47Speaker 5: of them the Jets one was like thirteen seconds left
- 45:50Speaker 5: and they were twenty yards out of field goal range
- 45:52Speaker 5: and he tried to fit one into, you know, a
- 45:54Speaker 5: tight window and he got intercepted the Dolphins almost bad.
- 45:57Speaker 5: He threw a pick in the end zone that was
- 46:00Speaker 5: pretty bad. But you look at his numbers, you look
- 46:03Speaker 5: at some of the film that he's able to put out.
- 46:05Speaker 5: Is he the long term answer? No, of course not.
- 46:07Speaker 5: But is he a very capable stop gap quarterback for
- 46:10Speaker 5: next year? I think the biggest thing to me is
- 46:12Speaker 5: you don't need to rush the number three overall pick
- 46:14Speaker 5: onto the field.
- 46:15Speaker 2: You think he's better than mac jonesy, I agree with you.
- 46:18Speaker 2: Think he's better than Mac Jones could be some day.
- 46:20Speaker 5: I think that Jacobe presseaid in twenty twenty two was
- 46:23Speaker 5: better quarterback play than what they got out of the
- 46:25Speaker 5: last two years from MC and Bailey's app.
- 46:27Speaker 4: See what you said about the locker room makes this
- 46:30Speaker 4: a proper move, right, But I don't think he's any
- 46:33Speaker 4: better than Mac Jones. I don't know.
- 46:36Speaker 5: It's just you don't want to rush the third overall
- 46:38Speaker 5: pick on the field, and I don't think they're gonna
- 46:40Speaker 5: feel like they have to totally because Jacoby Pressett's terrible
- 46:43Speaker 5: to get.
- 46:44Speaker 3: Him off the field.
- 46:44Speaker 5: I'm totally with that.
- 46:45Speaker 4: Like, this is a professional backup who will hold the
- 46:49Speaker 4: spot until you want You don't have to until you
- 46:52Speaker 4: want to, and there's probably not a ton of pressure to,
- 46:55Speaker 4: you know, try to win fourteen games. Like I think
- 46:58Speaker 4: people are realistic and they under it's going to be slow.

- 48:03Speaker 2: All right, back to the listeners. Let's go to the
- 48:07Speaker 2: ACE ticket houtline. Christian in La is on the line.
- 48:11Speaker 2: What's up, Christian?
- 48:13Speaker 11: Hey, how you.
- 48:13Speaker 12: Guys doing today? Great great discussion. I'm started by saying
- 48:18Speaker 12: I am absolutely sick and beside myself with different themes already,
- 48:24Speaker 12: it seems like they overvalue dugger and miss on the
- 48:30Speaker 12: free safety.
- 48:31Speaker 13: It seems like they are doing the same stupid thing
- 48:35Speaker 13: by trying to plug people into positions that they don't
- 48:38Speaker 13: really play on, will you, because they want to get
- 48:41Speaker 13: a value or something like this, the guy cold strange
- 48:43Speaker 13: who is absolutely not qualified to be a starting guard.
- 48:48Speaker 13: And then we do the same thing at receiver that
- 48:51Speaker 13: we've always done. We don't really push the envelope to
- 48:55Speaker 13: spend the big money, but we get a guy who's almost.
- 48:58Speaker 10: Good enough to be good.
- 49:00Speaker 13: And now we're in position at number three to take
- 49:03Speaker 13: a quarterback who's almost good enough to be great or elite,
- 49:07Speaker 13: but he's really not right. And so now we're going
- 49:10Speaker 13: to just go another year or two waiting and hoping
- 49:13Speaker 13: for these guys to turn into what we should have
- 49:15Speaker 13: just actually went out and got. I think the most
- 49:18Speaker 13: intangible thing, and I'll rafle Abyss is every two Bowl winning,
- 49:24Speaker 13: playoff winning quarterback, the guys that get really up there
- 49:26Speaker 13: have one in tangible you can say, this guy's unusually this,
- 49:31Speaker 13: you know, like Josh Allen unusually strong, Patrick Mahomes unusually dexterous,
- 49:37Speaker 13: Lamar Jackson unusually athletic, even back to Joe Montana and
- 49:41Speaker 13: all those guys. When you look at Drake May and
- 49:43Speaker 13: Jaden Daniel or our print to possible choices? What are
- 49:47Speaker 13: they unusually good at?
- 49:52Speaker 4: And I would say Daniels does too. I agree with Fred.
- 49:54Speaker 2: No, I think I think they they each have traits
- 49:57Speaker 2: that are putting them in the first round. Yeah, there's
- 49:59Speaker 2: no doubt.
- 50:00Speaker 4: And I would disagree that that that Drake May.
- 50:04Speaker 2: What I've watched their teeth.
- 50:06Speaker 13: I haven't seen a NFL I've seen them throw the
- 50:09Speaker 13: open gun.
- 50:09Speaker 4: I say, great, okay, I've seen I've seen a lot
- 50:12Speaker 4: of NFL thing about Lamar Jackson.
- 50:15Speaker 2: You just mentioned Lamar Jackson. You mentioned his dexterity or
- 50:18Speaker 2: whatever athleticism, so he.
- 50:22Speaker 4: What you hear? Said Joe Montanna the same thing.
- 50:25Speaker 5: What was his what was his extraordinary thing?
- 50:27Speaker 2: Coolness? U?
- 50:28Speaker 5: But really so that was something you identified.
- 50:31Speaker 2: I'm joking, but I think with Lamar Jackson he didn't
- 50:34Speaker 2: have NFL throws on his tape, so the only I
- 50:37Speaker 2: would just just right, So does Jayden Daniels.
- 50:41Speaker 4: And Drake May.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:43Speaker 4: Yeah, Like these guys are really good athletes.
- 50:46Speaker 13: Great.
- 50:48Speaker 4: I'm not telling you believe or not believe. I'm just
- 50:50Speaker 4: telling you this NFL talent for both of them, Like
- 50:53Speaker 4: just saying that they're they're not quite good enough to
- 50:55Speaker 4: be good. Well, Drake May might miss Drake No, you
- 50:59Speaker 4: said no, you said good, they're not quite good enough
- 51:02Speaker 4: to be good. That's what you said. And Drake May
- 51:05Speaker 4: is more than talented enough to be an excellent player,
- 51:08Speaker 4: whether he is or not is going to rely on
- 51:10Speaker 4: all the other things that that we have no way
- 51:14Speaker 4: of knowing. Does he have an aptitude for the position.
- 51:16Speaker 4: Does he have the ability to to put bad plays
- 51:20Speaker 4: behind him immediately?
- 51:21Speaker 5: Is he clutch?
- 51:22Speaker 4: Is he understanding and adapting to the when teams make
- 51:25Speaker 4: adjustments to him? And he's got the the anterest that
- 51:28Speaker 4: there's a lot of things that go into being good.
- 51:31Speaker 4: Talent will not be the reason why Drake May fails.
- 51:33Speaker 2: And even if it's like if you you know, and
- 51:36Speaker 2: thanks for the call, Christian, you know.
- 51:38Speaker 4: Like Drake May is one of the more talented guys
- 51:41Speaker 4: that you'll see. His upside is through the room. But
- 51:43Speaker 4: doesn't mean he's going to be great.
- 51:45Speaker 2: If you look at, you know, the thesis that he's presenting.
- 51:49Speaker 2: You know, anybody who's going to be great has that
- 51:52Speaker 2: thing early on that you can point to that's you know,
- 51:56Speaker 2: his secret. Sauce Joe Burrow. Joe Burrow in his last
- 52:02Speaker 2: year started winning and producing. But was there any one
- 52:05Speaker 2: thing that Joe Burrow did that was like elite? No,
- 52:09Speaker 2: he just did it all pretty good, you know.
- 52:12Speaker 4: And then I mean, I think he did but yeah,
- 52:14Speaker 4: that's me. But there was questions for him about all
- 52:17Speaker 4: the stuff we talked about.
- 52:19Speaker 2: His difference that we found out once he got here
- 52:22Speaker 2: was up here.
- 52:23Speaker 5: It's upstairs skills, so ridiculous. Yeah, I think that that's
- 52:26Speaker 5: when I mentioned that all this conversation about why these
- 52:30Speaker 5: quarterbacks fail is making the rounds today. I think I
- 52:33Speaker 5: feel like it's all the things that Paul was kind
- 52:34Speaker 5: of getting at, which is, we don't know about their
- 52:37Speaker 5: competitive toughness, We don't know about their work ethic, we
- 52:40Speaker 5: don't know about, you know, how they're wired. Like we
- 52:43Speaker 5: can watch them on film, we can watch the highlights
- 52:45Speaker 5: and we can say, oh, this guy can do this,
- 52:47Speaker 5: this guy can do that. But what makes all of
- 52:49Speaker 5: these guys truly great that are great is this like
- 52:53Speaker 5: maniacal competitiveness.
- 52:54Speaker 4: Let me let me just just use this one thing
- 52:56Speaker 4: as an example. No right or wrong answers here, But
- 52:59Speaker 4: would you say how would you say Lamar Jackson and
- 53:02Speaker 4: Kyler Murray compare like physically, athletically pretty comparable. Yes, athletically,
- 53:10Speaker 4: why do you why do you think Lamar Jackson is
- 53:12Speaker 4: so much better than Kyler?
- 53:13Speaker 5: He's six inches taller.
- 53:14Speaker 4: No, I also that's that's a reason.
- 53:16Speaker 2: That's one.
- 53:17Speaker 5: That's that's a reason. But I'm not going to say
- 53:19Speaker 5: it's the only one.
- 53:19Speaker 2: But I also think he was on a better team that.
- 53:22Speaker 4: Okay, I'm going to say it's built around stuff that
- 53:24Speaker 4: Evan just talked about with work ethic and.
- 53:27Speaker 5: Is writing his contract. He can't play videos, his.
- 53:30Speaker 4: Willingness to learn and watch film and study and be
- 53:33Speaker 4: prepared and do all the stuff that it takes to
- 53:35Speaker 4: be a great quarterback. And I don't know that based
- 53:38Speaker 4: on reports, I don't know, Kyler Murray might be unfair.
- 53:41Speaker 4: I'm going off reports that may or not be accurate,
- 53:43Speaker 4: but that's not his reputation. I think athletically, I think
- 53:49Speaker 4: Christian would have said athletically, that's the one thing that
- 53:52Speaker 4: makes him athletic. I mean, this is a guy who
- 53:54Speaker 4: was going to be a number one draft pick in
- 53:56Speaker 4: baseball too. This guy's athleticism is through the roof. But
- 53:59Speaker 4: yet he's not as good as Lamar Jackson. Why is that.
- 54:02Speaker 3: He's not as pretty to watch Ronni either.
- 54:04Speaker 4: I mean, by the way, Arizona two years ago, three
- 54:08Speaker 4: years ago had as good a team as anybody in football,
- 54:11Speaker 4: you know, talent wise. They were at the top of
- 54:14Speaker 4: the league with like one loss, right there was like
- 54:17Speaker 4: one loss. They were as talented as anybody. So it's
- 54:19Speaker 4: not like he didn't go to Cleveland and was never
- 54:23Speaker 4: heard fro him. Again, it wasn't just about that. There's
- 54:26Speaker 4: a there's a drive that Tom Brady has that other
- 54:29Speaker 4: people don't. It's not just like having that elite ability.
- 54:33Speaker 3: But I think Mac is an interesting one too, because
- 54:35Speaker 3: I feel like he was one of those guys that
- 54:37Speaker 3: has a lot of drive but doesn't have a lot
- 54:38Speaker 3: of talent. And that was kind of the question going
- 54:41Speaker 3: into this year was can you work hard enough to
- 54:44Speaker 3: elevate yourself? And I mean I just I mean, he's
- 54:46Speaker 3: a special case and all that, but but I I.
- 54:50Speaker 5: I definitely get this position.
- 54:51Speaker 2: I don't think at this position you can do it
- 54:53Speaker 2: on just you know, heart want to. You know, it's
- 54:58Speaker 2: not a.
- 54:58Speaker 9: Want to have like mental toughness too, So I think
- 55:02Speaker 9: like there's another asset to it in terms of like
- 55:04Speaker 9: you can be a hard worker, you can have the talent,
- 55:07Speaker 9: but if you're not mentally tough, you're not going to
- 55:08Speaker 9: survive in this league.
- 55:09Speaker 2: And processing speed, like how do you how do you
- 55:13Speaker 2: replicate that in a tryout? You can't. Until there's a
- 55:16Speaker 2: fear of getting killed, you can't replicate.
- 55:20Speaker 4: And Drake May may not have any of those talents.
- 55:23Speaker 4: And I count them as talents, not just in tangible I.
- 55:27Speaker 5: Think a lot of the you know, to the caller,
- 55:30Speaker 5: what's Lamar jack you know, or what's Jaden Daniel's superpower?
- 55:34Speaker 5: His athleticism? You said that for Lamar Jackson, it's Jaden
- 55:37Speaker 5: Daniel is one of the best runners in college football
- 55:39Speaker 5: since Lamar Jackson.
- 55:41Speaker 7: I agree.
- 55:41Speaker 5: You know, Drake May, what's his superpower is his arm
- 55:44Speaker 5: talent and his like his sheer size. Yeah, I mean
- 55:46Speaker 5: the guy, the guy has an absolute howitzer, Like he
- 55:49Speaker 5: can throw it off his back foot, he can throw
- 55:52Speaker 5: it eighty yards in the air like there. It's that
- 55:55Speaker 5: that's what he's got going for him is pure pure gas,
- 55:58Speaker 5: pure arm talent, and that that's you can't teach that.
- 56:01Speaker 5: You know, It's got something that he's physically, he's the prototype.
- 56:05Speaker 5: He's Josh Allen, He's Justin Herbert. He's six foot four,
- 56:09Speaker 5: he's two hundred and twenty five pounds, and he's got
- 56:11Speaker 5: a huge arm, Like he's the prototype.
- 56:13Speaker 4: Like some of these guys, I think, you you get
- 56:16Speaker 4: talked into and they they do lack some physical abilities,
- 56:20Speaker 4: you know, And you know, maybe Bryce Young is one
- 56:22Speaker 4: of these guys that is just flat out not big
- 56:25Speaker 4: enough to play at the NFL level without the ability
- 56:29Speaker 4: to move around and run, and they probably at his
- 56:31Speaker 4: size don't want him doing that a lot. Right, So
- 56:34Speaker 4: there might be some physical but most of these guys
- 56:37Speaker 4: are off the charts in terms of physical ability, but
- 56:41Speaker 4: some of them don't hit.
- 56:42Speaker 5: Why I think, like Mac, I, this draft class probably
- 56:46Speaker 5: not want it's because we're back into this whole thing unfortunately.
- 56:49Speaker 5: Like with Mac, I think the one thing that I
- 56:50Speaker 5: did learn is to to douce his point that that's
- 56:53Speaker 5: not enough, Like you have to have a baseline foundation
- 56:56Speaker 5: of physical skills in this level. You can't just be
- 57:00Speaker 5: Matt coming out was the worker. He was the processor,
- 57:03Speaker 5: he was the decision maker. He was the guy you
- 57:05Speaker 5: know that he's going to play, you know, chess at
- 57:07Speaker 5: the line of scrimmage and do all all. That's all
- 57:09Speaker 5: well and good, but this isn't you're You're not sitting
- 57:11Speaker 5: with a Madden controller like actually I go out there and.
- 57:14Speaker 2: Actually that was Christian's point, But I think that by
- 57:16Speaker 2: using Jaden Daniels in Drake May as examples was wrong.
- 57:20Speaker 2: They do have physical yeah ye, well.
- 57:22Speaker 4: Yeah, like so dexterity or something abnormal dexterity, No superpower,
- 57:31Speaker 4: superpower is abnormal dexterity. Do you ever see the angles
- 57:35Speaker 4: that he's made, some of those? He always working, Blue,
- 57:39Speaker 4: He's always working.
- 57:40Speaker 5: I was going to say something really smart, and then
- 57:43Speaker 5: you just had to do that.
- 57:45Speaker 2: All right, we'll take a break. Everybody's food is here
- 57:49Speaker 2: except Paul's. Uh so we'll come back after that.

- 58:36Speaker 15: As I recall the last minute grocery runs in late
- 58:39Speaker 15: night dishwashing, the salty defeats and spicy victories, I realize

- 58:50Speaker 15: always you, Toastitos. Team up with Toastitos, the official chip
- 58:56Speaker 15: and Dip of the New England Patriots, and we are.
- 58:59Speaker 16: Back with another edition of the PQU Halftime Show. I'm
- 59:02Speaker 16: joined by Chris Casty. I can say, as always, man,
- 59:06Speaker 16: that's nice. Co host host, co host, co host. All right,
- 59:09Speaker 16: we start with some trivias. Always Chris, don't answer it.
- 59:12Speaker 16: Although we came up with these together. It's before I
- 59:16Speaker 16: answered send your answers to the web Radio Patriots dot
- 59:18Speaker 16: Com to win probably something. Question one, what college did
- 59:22Speaker 16: Richard Seymour go to? All right? Question two? Who won
- 59:27Speaker 16: the nineteen ninety eight Rose Bowl? And question three what
- 59:31Speaker 16: number jersey number did Rohan daveyware? A legend of the game?
- 59:36Speaker 16: All right, Chris shaking his head. Chris doesn't even know
- 59:39Speaker 16: who that is, all right. As we said last time,
- 59:43Speaker 16: the new league year started a couple of days ago,
- 59:46Speaker 16: and with that comes some rule change proposals, all right,
- 59:50Speaker 16: And so every year these get submitted, and not every
- 59:54Speaker 16: single one gets put in, Chris, and some of these,
- 59:57Speaker 16: some of these have pretty some of these clubs have
- 59:59Speaker 16: pretty good I and they vote on them. So, for example,
- 1:00:03Speaker 16: the Eagles put in request to permit a team to
- 1:00:06Speaker 16: maintain possession of the ball after score by substituting one
- 1:00:10Speaker 16: offensive play fourth and twenty from the kicking team's twenty
- 1:00:13Speaker 16: yard line for an onside kick attempt. That's an example
- 1:00:16Speaker 16: of one. And Chris, this is done because the onside
- 1:00:19Speaker 16: kick has been ruined. It never hits anymore, honestly, like
- 1:00:23Speaker 16: it's absurd, And so these teams need a way to
- 1:00:25Speaker 16: get the ball back. And so we're not gonna go
- 1:00:27Speaker 16: through all of the uh rules brought in, but we
- 1:00:31Speaker 16: thought it'd be fun to maybe go over some rule
- 1:00:33Speaker 16: changes that we'd add to the league.
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: Well, you mentioned the on side kick one tis and
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: I mean, yes, they don't hit, but at the same time,
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: when they do, you like, oh.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: That was sick.
- 1:00:44Speaker 16: Well, they used to Chris, don't if you remember in
- 1:00:45Speaker 16: the twenty ten they used to hit all the time,
- 1:00:47Speaker 16: all right, all right, like like it's it's now it's
- 1:00:50Speaker 16: just like you're just you're, you're. It's like a lottery
- 1:00:53Speaker 16: hit and it barely works. They didn't hit all the time,
- 1:00:55Speaker 16: they hit more than more than now.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: I think.
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: I think a big thing with the on side kick, though,
- 1:01:00Speaker 6: is how creative teams try to be with it, Like
- 1:01:02Speaker 6: they set up two people on both sides of the ball,
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: like I'm gonna kick it to the left and I'll
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: kick it with my back heel. Now it doesn't go
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: ten yards. Now, everybody's scrambling to try to get the ball,
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: try to wafer it to go ten yards, and if
- 1:01:13Speaker 6: it does, the other.
- 1:01:13Speaker 16: Team just diving up. Anyway, they change it because of
- 1:01:15Speaker 16: player safety. And I hate to be the old man,
- 1:01:17Speaker 16: like I know I've turned it into one, but like,
- 1:01:20Speaker 16: listen that at some point it's a contact sport and
- 1:01:23Speaker 16: just bring back the old ones kick. But that's not
- 1:01:24Speaker 16: gonna happen. So these teams need to find out a
- 1:01:27Speaker 16: way to get the ball back. And it's just kind
- 1:01:28Speaker 16: of crazy though, because if you have a player like
- 1:01:30Speaker 16: Mahomes like the fourth and twenty. He gets third and
- 1:01:32Speaker 16: twenties all the time, so it's it could be electric,
- 1:01:36Speaker 16: but I don't know.
- 1:01:37Speaker 7: It's harder than you think, though.
- 1:01:38Speaker 16: I feel like, oh, obviously, obviously, but teams will find
- 1:01:42Speaker 16: a way to get done. But anyways, some rule, some
- 1:01:45Speaker 16: rule changes I'd like to see, and so somebody, I think,
- 1:01:47Speaker 16: I forget what team was, they submitted that the play
- 1:01:51Speaker 16: clock shows tenths of a second and or maybe it
- 1:01:54Speaker 16: was just the overall scoreboard for the final two minutes
- 1:01:57Speaker 16: and a half. I think that'd be electric. But to
- 1:01:59Speaker 16: go off that, I think they need to incorporate a
- 1:02:02Speaker 16: buzzer for the play clock because it's really just being
- 1:02:04Speaker 16: the ref looking at the eyes. Think about how many
- 1:02:06Speaker 16: times the play clock expires and the ref looks but
- 1:02:09Speaker 16: the ball is already snapped. If there was a buzzer,
- 1:02:12Speaker 16: I don't know it would I think a lot of
- 1:02:13Speaker 16: things would change.
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: I agree with that. I think the buzzer is a
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: good play there. I mean it makes a big difference
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: in basketball, like being able to hear it and you know,
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: hanging onto the ball for too long obviously get penalized
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: and also looks way worse on you and hear that buzzer, You're.
- 1:02:26Speaker 16: Like, oh no, and hey, I'm be transparent to the past.
- 1:02:29Speaker 16: We've gotten lucky. I forget it was last year, maybe
- 1:02:31Speaker 16: two years ago we had one where the play clock
- 1:02:33Speaker 16: gets fired and it just snapped. So I and it
- 1:02:35Speaker 16: just like, it's the rules, and now we're just having
- 1:02:37Speaker 16: a ref where we already have ref situations. Yeah, give
- 1:02:40Speaker 16: them some help to go off that too. We got
- 1:02:42Speaker 16: to get rid of the chain gang. All right, it's
- 1:02:45Speaker 16: I know it's a football staple, but it is twenty
- 1:02:47Speaker 16: twenty four. Put some damn sensors in the ball. Where
- 1:02:50Speaker 16: we're going with this visible yellow line. Chris, you really
- 1:02:54Speaker 16: you really think your chain guys, and you don't want
- 1:02:57Speaker 16: any backup because there are times you'll see it. Players
- 1:02:59Speaker 16: will move the balls. You're having the sixty five year
- 1:03:02Speaker 16: old man spot the ball with millions of dollars on
- 1:03:04Speaker 16: the line because of all the gambling and stuff. And
- 1:03:06Speaker 16: he's like, oh, I'm going to push back a little
- 1:03:08Speaker 16: in it's game benches, I know, but it doesn't need
- 1:03:10Speaker 16: to be. We can have like some sat and stone
- 1:03:12Speaker 16: stuff here.
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: I mean, you know who does good job with that
- 1:03:15Speaker 6: is tennis tennis doesn't really good. Yeah, with their VR
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: and kind of immediately if there's a close play they
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: go to it. They nope, that was out. All right,
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: on to the next thing. But I think you don't
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: want to change football too much, okay, And a big
- 1:03:30Speaker 6: reason behind that is everybody that has grown up with
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: it are so used to everything like change is good,
- 1:03:37Speaker 6: Like there has been changes, like change is very good
- 1:03:40Speaker 6: in a lot of senses. But there are a lot
- 1:03:43Speaker 6: of ways, I should say. But I think changing the
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: little intricate things like that a little bit different.
- 1:03:51Speaker 16: You know, there was a time without instant like challenging
- 1:03:54Speaker 16: to play, right, Yeah, if people like didn't like it
- 1:03:56Speaker 16: at first, could you imagine not being able to challenge
- 1:03:58Speaker 16: a play now, Chris, I think I.
- 1:03:59Speaker 7: Have been alive for the entire the entire time to play,
- 1:04:03Speaker 7: so I can't I can't look back on the old
- 1:04:06Speaker 7: times like that. But I didn't. I don't know. I
- 1:04:10Speaker 7: think I just think the change.
- 1:04:11Speaker 6: Screw like makes like football get more like whoa, Like
- 1:04:15Speaker 6: you're more engaged, not like alright, yeah, first.
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: Down games over, you know what I mean? Something like that?
- 1:04:19Speaker 7: All right, get down to the wire. I think the
- 1:04:21Speaker 7: chain crew actually provides more of a you know, I.
- 1:04:24Speaker 16: Think it's there, but I think you can enhance it.
- 1:04:27Speaker 16: That's why I'm getting that. Any any other any other rules, Chris,
- 1:04:32Speaker 16: any other things you want to add.
- 1:04:33Speaker 6: I mean, if I if I were able to change
- 1:04:35Speaker 6: one of the NFULL rules, I think I would try
- 1:04:37Speaker 6: to add like a three or four point play.
- 1:04:39Speaker 16: Big XFL guy here, Yeah, I mean, I'll it's football, right,
- 1:04:44Speaker 16: you'll tune in XFL.
- 1:04:45Speaker 6: But in the NFL, I think trying to add a
- 1:04:47Speaker 6: three or four point play. I mean, this is probably
- 1:04:50Speaker 6: a crazy take that people could rip me on. But
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: set somebody up at the fifteen, you know, if they
- 1:04:56Speaker 6: convert it three points, set them up at twenty five,
- 1:04:59Speaker 6: convert it get four points. I think that's it. Like
- 1:05:02Speaker 6: you like, level it at that, but I think that's difficult.
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: I think it's engaging. I think fans are like, oh,
- 1:05:08Speaker 6: that was actually pretty interesting seeing what they just did there.
- 1:05:11Speaker 6: You have to develop a whole their play style. Like
- 1:05:13Speaker 6: I kind of feel this way for the on side
- 1:05:15Speaker 6: kick idea, where it becomes now something you're practicing rather
- 1:05:20Speaker 6: than just a kick ten yards, like a ball going
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: ten yards on an onside kick, or you know, going
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: for two from the two yard line.
- 1:05:29Speaker 16: So, so here, are you pro kicker or anti kicker?
- 1:05:32Speaker 16: I'm pro kicker, Okay, I think it takes a lot
- 1:05:34Speaker 16: of talent to be a kid. Okay, all right, well
- 1:05:36Speaker 16: I'm pro kicker too. I like, I don't like that
- 1:05:38Speaker 16: they're being phased out.
- 1:05:39Speaker 6: So I think you're you're a soccer guy. So I'm like,
- 1:05:42Speaker 6: I guess I'm pro kicker because I support ut is there.
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: So I mean, I think it's interesting. I think it's
- 1:05:48Speaker 6: something to be considered. I think what the XFL does,
- 1:05:51Speaker 6: it's a much different brand obviously yea now the UFL,
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: but a much different style of football, and that's their
- 1:05:56Speaker 6: whole point of their business. And the NFL has its
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: own brand, so I you don't want that to become
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: the UFL.
- 1:06:04Speaker 7: Yep, God, you can definitely grow.
- 1:06:07Speaker 16: And so one more thing is that they need to
- 1:06:09Speaker 16: sort out these overtime rules. I hated how they did
- 1:06:12Speaker 16: the Super Bowl. I don't like it in the regular season.
- 1:06:14Speaker 16: We just need one solid thing. That is a story
- 1:06:17Speaker 16: for a different day, though, Chris, because I could go
- 1:06:19Speaker 16: on about that for twenty minutes. Listen, all these teams
- 1:06:22Speaker 16: put in rule changes. They don't always get overturned or approved.
- 1:06:25Speaker 16: It says all proposals must be proved by seventy five
- 1:06:27Speaker 16: percent of the owners to be adopted. So we'll see
- 1:06:30Speaker 16: what happens. I don't think we did any this year,
- 1:06:34Speaker 16: but you know that's probably because we have our own
- 1:06:35Speaker 16: crap going on. We gotta gotta, we gotta build our
- 1:06:39Speaker 16: team before we change the rules. All right, all right, guys,
- 1:06:43Speaker 16: sed your trivia answers in the web radopatriots dot com. Chris,
- 1:06:46Speaker 16: thanks for joining. As always, let's get back to the show.
- 1:06:50Speaker 16: When someone accidentally threw the school play costumes, Oh No,
- 1:06:55Speaker 16: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery.

- 1:07:15Speaker 2: Lady Gaga should get an Academy Award because Fred Kurst
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: didn't know it was Lady Gaga.
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: That was a good one.
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: When you put it like that, she was unrecognizable. Look
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: like her hair, so gif.
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: Pi oscar to the makeup artist, you know what I mean?
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: Not really, she was immersed in the in the character.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: I didn't realize it was fair.
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: Yeah, what's up, Philip Seymour Hoffman. He was a good
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: one where yeah he's the same guy, but it just
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: a roll brought something kind of different to it. That
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: just it never took me out of it.
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: But he was never oscar Worthy because I always knew
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: it was Phillips.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: And I know we know.
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: I mean I was in the these rooms over here.
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: Just said made up made perfect sense.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: With your experience on the stage, I would assume you would.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: You would know what I'm talking about.
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: I do know what you're talking about. Did you recognize
- 1:08:15Speaker 5: de Niro?
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: Oh? Absolutely, because he looked he looked a little bit
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: different too. He's now.
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: But it's it was just the part, like you would,
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: I understand what your point.
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: Is, Adam and the other one. You know, it's Adam Driver.
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: People can't see your Fred, what you're doing.
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: Prominent, but I get you.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: Easy to Drink, Easy to Enjoy, bud Light, the official
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: beer sponsor of the New England Patriots. That's it. That's
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: the tweet. That's the tweet. You're so young and hip, Fred,
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: But more importantly, we're hopping toward Easter Sunday, and there's
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: no time like the present to get party ready with
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: Bob's Discount Furniture Shop tons of on trend dining sets

- 1:09:25Speaker 3: So, Paul, over your Easter traditions, you guys? So like
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: the Easter Bunny come your house, you bring your toys,
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: just candy, you know what was your your your household?
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: Like I had an Easter basket like everybody else.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: Now the kids would go on the Easter egg hunt
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: and the parents would bet on who's gonna find.
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: More they Uh, it's always open season on Paul.
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: We just definitely go to that mass though, what's that?
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: It's a long mass. They do like the whole thing,
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: the whole like stations.
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Did you ever have as a kid have to walk
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: the station of the Cross?
- 1:10:00Speaker 7: Uh?
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: Probably yeah, probably at.
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: The Rosary beads I was confirmed and everything I was.
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: I don't have a lot of second time in my
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: life not too long ago, and I felt dirty, like
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: I'm really sorry.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: Oh I think if I walked in, I'd be struck
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: by lightning.
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: They've changed stuff though, Like you know, you get used
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: to the Catholic masses. They're not They're not the same anymore.
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: What Tomorrow? You're looking at me like side eye. You're
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: giving me the side eye.
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: So sorry, Jewish. I'm here as a guest. I'm not
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: doing this on purpose.
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: We had some trivia at halftime. I know Paul likes
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: it's my favorite time of the show. What College? This
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: is so easy? What college did Richard Seymour go to?
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: How old myself?
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: Georgia, Georgia Claire got it?
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: Hey girl, someone had to say the right answer?
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: Cleaning up on trivia? How many times had she won?
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: Claire? I think we need to dcute her. I know,
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: it's like the Tom Brady commercial with vincevon Now it's like,
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: not you Tom.
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: She's got like twenty five PU T shirts.
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: Who won the Well? I don't think she received any.
- 1:10:56Speaker 5: Of It's got them all?
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: Who won the nineteen ninety eight Rose Bowl michieteam ninety eight.
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: Michigan, Michigan is correct against Miami. Right, why do you
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: know that because Tom Brady played in the game.
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: That has incorrect?
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: John and San Diego got it?
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: Is it ninety nine?
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: Tom Brady didn't play in the Rose Bowl?
- 1:11:18Speaker 7: He did?
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: Isn't that the Orange Bowl? Orange Bowl? Yeah? I knew
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: it was one of the big bulls, big breakout.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: Well, Michigan played.
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: In it, so it would have been Brian Greasy.
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: The year before, assuming that they're referencing the Orange Bowl
- 1:11:31Speaker 5: that Brady played in that was like his bib.
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: That would have been ninety nine, right, because that would
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: be the last Brady's last year.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: That's right.
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: Well, could have been the ninety eight yeah, I think
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: ninety seven they won the national title, so it would
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: have been the ninety eight Rose Bowl. I think it's
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: Brian Greasy.
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: Finally, what number did Rohan Davy? Six? Six is correct?
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: And it was over here?
- 1:11:55Speaker 7: Right?
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: It was always center.
- 1:11:57Speaker 5: I believed in Rohan Day, Jacoby Brother.
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: Michael Bishop.
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: That was another one.
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: People believe that.
- 1:12:07Speaker 15: Clar says she's only won twice and she's received both shirts.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: I'm back, Claire, you say so, all right back here?
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: Eight five five past five hundred is the ace taken?
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: Hout line. Let's get right back to the phones. Chris
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: and Connecticut has been holding on. What's up, Chris? Chris
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: been holding on too long?
- 1:12:27Speaker 7: He gave up.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: Uh. Todd's in North Carolina. What's up? Todd?
- 1:12:32Speaker 16: Hey?
- 1:12:32Speaker 8: The I know it wasn't the Chris with the t
- 1:12:34Speaker 8: I N that called in earlier, but I think he
- 1:12:37Speaker 8: kind of had a point with what he was saying
- 1:12:39Speaker 8: about a quarterback. I don't think that it's a superpower
- 1:12:42Speaker 8: you're looking for. You're looking for somebody that can elevate
- 1:12:44Speaker 8: the people around him, and it's going to inquire a
- 1:12:47Speaker 8: little bit of leadership, but that it requires the skill.
- 1:12:49Speaker 8: It's the culmination of the two and I don't think
- 1:12:51Speaker 8: mac Jones could do that. I think mac Jones was
- 1:12:54Speaker 8: elevated by coaching and maybe some other people helping him.
- 1:12:57Speaker 8: I think it's you know, you need somebody like a
- 1:13:00Speaker 8: and Peyton Brady could do it, and right now you
- 1:13:04Speaker 8: see Mahomes can do it.
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: You have to be a leader.
- 1:13:06Speaker 8: What's the face in Buffalo actually does it? It doesn't
- 1:13:09Speaker 8: feel like he he doesn't feel like he elevates them.
- 1:13:12Speaker 8: It feels like he just improvised. So I think that's
- 1:13:15Speaker 8: the quality that you really need in your quarterback? What
- 1:13:17Speaker 8: do you guys think?
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: I think you do, and I think, but I think
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: Josh Allen has it.
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: No, he's trash, Yeah, I have him, he's supposed to be.
- 1:13:28Speaker 5: I can't do it with Patriots fans of Josh Allen like,
- 1:13:30Speaker 5: I'm sorry, he's really really good. I'm a lot of
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: people's feelings.
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: But yeah, all the great quarterbacks are good.
- 1:13:39Speaker 4: Leader guy has a stud I mean, it's it's hard
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: to be great at that spot and not be a
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: great leader. I agree with I agree with that premise
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: of it, but.
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: I think that's not what Christian was saying.
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: No, Christian was saying that you have to have the
- 1:13:52Speaker 4: elite talent to be in that spot, and he doesn't
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: believe that these guys do, which is fine. That's the
- 1:13:57Speaker 4: ironic part of the whole discussion is if you don't
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: think that Jayden Daniels or Drake may or Caleb Williams
- 1:14:03Speaker 4: or any of these guys has the ability, that's nothing
- 1:14:06Speaker 4: wrong with that. I think everybody has different opinions on
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: different guys. But I just don't know how you can
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: watch a guy play like Jayden Daniels and not say
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: he's got elite athleticism. I don't know how you can
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: come to that determination.
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: I mean, there's elevate, but I also think there's an
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: element that guys have to want to play for you,
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: like and you know, it's it's not like you're necessarily
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: elevating them. It's just they're gonna play hard for you.
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: And you know, even quarterbacks who aren't necessarily the most talented,
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: like I would say, like a Ryan Fitzpatrick is the
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: first random example that comes my head of just a
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: guy that he's not great, he doesn't have a lot
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: of but guys like him, they want to play for him,
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: and he won some games over the years that especially
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: one here that you know he probably shouldst.
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: Yes, but yeah, your point is absolutely valid, Like there's
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: a guy who got the most out of what he
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: had because of all those other things. Breaking new sound
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: when news breaks Adam's.
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: Bengals are signing Trent Brown according to Ian Rappaport.
- 1:15:06Speaker 9: Okay, anyways, so Kirk Cousins falls into that category that
- 1:15:12Speaker 9: you're maybe.
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: A little bit, but I think he's I mean, he's
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: got more talented, tremendous leader. Yes, yeah, but yeah, I
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: think you know it's and you know, it's I don't know,
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: I just I'm trying to draw the connection between like
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: how do you elevate guys like you know, It's like
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: you don't really elevate them. They play, they play harder,
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: they play better, you know you I mean, I.
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: Do you do elevate? But I think people feel like
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: some of these guys are not that good. They just
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: you know, they're a great leader, they're scrappy, they're overachievers.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: But there's a level of ability that isn't like Kirk Cousins. Listen,
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: Kirk Cousins isn't my cup of tea as a quarterback,
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: I think you're limited. But he's a really good passer
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: and he's obviously smart enough to understand defenses to the
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: level he's had as much success as he's had in
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: the league. Right, So this isn't this ability there that's
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: high end. Then you add in Tamara's leadership qualities that
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: I think put him probably at a level a little
- 1:16:07Speaker 4: bit higher.
- 1:16:09Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: I mean, he's a good play I mean, I don't
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: love him, but he's a really good player and has
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: been for a long time.
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: And there's so many instances with kir Cousins of like
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: you like that or him with the chain dancing Gregory King.
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: He's just a lovable kind of.
- 1:16:21Speaker 5: Guy and I'm still trying to figure out what game
- 1:16:23Speaker 5: this is bugging the craphead of me.
- 1:16:25Speaker 9: I'm interested to see I'm interested to see him in Atlanta,
- 1:16:29Speaker 9: Like I just feel like the whole chain thing is
- 1:16:30Speaker 9: just going to continue to.
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: Just that offense should be good. I mean, they have
- 1:16:35Speaker 5: all the pieces for that offense to be really, really good,
- 1:16:38Speaker 5: So it'll be interesting to see what they look like.
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: Barton Poland rights and I'm cautiously optimistic about this offseason.
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: When you listen to people from the outside the organization,
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: they praise the Patriots for the moves they've made so far,
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: for not going crazy with the money, which almost never
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: works out free agency in the long term. Most of
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: the complaints come from Patriots fans, and that's understandable. The
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: team's fans will always have a slightly skewed judgment, and
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: it's not exclusive to Patriots fans. How many Bears fans
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: want to lynch the front office for an objectively good
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: move moving on from fields. In drafting, Caleb an appeal
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: to fans be patient a.
- 1:17:14Speaker 5: Little bit, but I agree with his overall point that
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: the national media seems to be a lot higher on
- 1:17:21Speaker 5: what the Patriots are doing than the local people. And
- 1:17:24Speaker 5: I think the local people are uneasy, like there's just
- 1:17:27Speaker 5: unrest here and they want to be competitive again, and
- 1:17:30Speaker 5: they have that angle of it, which I totally understand.
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: But a lot of these national places are saying the
- 1:17:35Speaker 5: Patriots have had a very shrewd, very tepid, but smart offseason.
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: Can I apply on that?
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: Yeah, So I'm going to start by saying I think
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: that this free agency year in general has really not
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: been like Fred you started the whole show by saying
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: like something about Patriots haven't really made any splashes. I
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: don't really think there have been very many splashes period
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: in the league. I don't think it was a great
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: free agent class top to bottom. There was some good
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: players available, and some of those, you know, Christian Wilkins,
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: got big money, but I don't think there were a
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: lot of those. So I think it was kind of
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: quiet in general around the league. But the reason I
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: think that national guys are higher on what the Patriots
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: did than the local guys is because the local guys
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: no more and the national guys are still in denial.
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: They're still in denial as to how far down the
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: Patriots fell over the last couple of years. And they
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: think by resigning guys and you know, mixing in a
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: couple of quality veterans, that represents a great offseason. And
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: I'm fine with I am not killing the offseason. Let
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: me state that definitively. I think some of the moves
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: they made have been fine. But I think people look
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: at it like, well, this was twenty seventeen. They didn't
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: need to go out and sign Christian Wilkins or Daniel
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: Hunter off the air, didn't need to make those kinds
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: of moves. They just plug in a couple of guys
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: here and there, and you're fine, that's not with the
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: Patriots are right now. And I've seen a lot of
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: I've seen a lot of national guys I think, you know,
- 1:19:08Speaker 4: say like they were one of the better I think
- 1:19:10Speaker 4: I think I saw they were like seventh in the
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: AFC for a grading in the the the off season,
- 1:19:17Speaker 4: the free agency, and like, okay, then that either I
- 1:19:20Speaker 4: don't think much of what everybody else has done, or
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: you just think that these moves are going to put
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: the Patriots in a position higher than I think they are.
- 1:19:29Speaker 5: I don't yeah, I just think I agree with what
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: you're saying. I just just to tell you what I
- 1:19:34Speaker 5: think they're saying is more on the lines of it's
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: it's been proven that going out and spending a bunch
- 1:19:41Speaker 5: of money in free agency to fix your team is
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: not as a way to turn yourself into it. And
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: I would agree with that. They've spent the good amount
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: of money though. Well, but like you know, the Splash signings,
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: you know the.
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: Think do you think the rankings would be higher or
- 1:19:55Speaker 4: lower if they had signed Calvin Ridley higher? So basically
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: you're telling me what the Patriots do is going to
- 1:20:02Speaker 4: be given that grade. And I think we're still there
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: nationally like the Patriots did it, so it's right. I
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: think we're still there. I don't know how I agree
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: with you. I don't know how.
- 1:20:13Speaker 5: I just think it's they look at it from a
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: we know here back in twenty twenty one, we just
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: did this, that you spent all the money.
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: It looks great in March, f and in December we
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: still did this. We were all talking for months about
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: Bill won't be back next year. Nationally, they were laughing
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: at us. The talking heads in Boston want to run
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: Belichick out of town. Those mean talk show hosts on
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: your show, my shows wanted to run Belichick out of town.
- 1:20:43Speaker 4: They were in complete denial. They had no idea that
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: he was getting fired. They had none.
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: Nope. Who was right, Rich Eisen The people that are
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: watching were right. They're not watching. They still think it's
- 1:20:54Speaker 5: twenty sixteen.
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: Yeah, let's go to the A Sticket Hutline Johnson, York,
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: Hey John, John, Wow, it's only on for twelve minutes. Uh,
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: Ben and Chestnut Hills.
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: There's another good segment on the sports up coming out?
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: Yeah? Does Hey? Ben?
- 1:21:15Speaker 11: I was just wondering your thoughts. I was thinking about
- 1:21:18Speaker 11: like team building and just like how the NFL has
- 1:21:20Speaker 11: been in the past few years. And I'm honestly not
- 1:21:22Speaker 11: too upset like that we didn't over spend and like
- 1:21:25Speaker 11: make a big splash. I think like this really goes
- 1:21:27Speaker 11: a little more long term than that. But I just
- 1:21:30Speaker 11: I'm not familiar enough with like how cap space work.
- 1:21:32Speaker 11: Can you guys talk a little bit about like if
- 1:21:35Speaker 11: we had like thirty million dollars left of cap space
- 1:21:38Speaker 11: going into the season, Like what does that mean for
- 1:21:40Speaker 11: the team?
- 1:21:41Speaker 5: It rolls over, so the caps space will roll over
- 1:21:45Speaker 5: into next year. Now, you have expenditures between now and
- 1:21:48Speaker 5: then the draft signing, the draft class, injured reserve, practice squad,
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: you know, things like that that will cut into it.
- 1:21:56Speaker 5: But if they let's say they they spent about ten
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: to fifteen million of it and all those different types
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: of things, they have twenty million dollars in cap space,
- 1:22:04Speaker 5: you add, it rolls over into the twenty twenty five
- 1:22:07Speaker 5: year league year.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: But it also does it doesn't limit them like going forward,
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: like to leave money for next year. You know, it
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: doesn't really matter because even though you have thirty million,
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: that's that's different than what you have to spend. So
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: like they could spend one hundred million this year, and
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: the way they structure the deal still be under the
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: cap as long as they figure it out. So no,
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: but they have to make decisions in order to do that,
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: and that's where the cap comes in. But you can
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: how you structure the deal is more important, and the
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: guaranteed money and when it's paid out is more important
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: than the cap number.
- 1:22:53Speaker 5: Okay, I will say that a lot of the deals
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: that they've signed and a lot of like they don't
- 1:22:58Speaker 5: have a lot of players under contract for twenty twenty five.
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: I mean the veterans. Only one of them got more
- 1:23:04Speaker 4: than two years and that was Gibson.
- 1:23:06Speaker 5: I think, yeah, he got three. And they don't have
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: the one and everybody yet time. Yeah, I think I
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: think they have something like forty in house free agents
- 1:23:19Speaker 5: in twenty twenty five right now, So forty.
- 1:23:22Speaker 9: Does that money goes towards the reports of working on
- 1:23:26Speaker 9: Judon's contract in the short term.
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: Shirt Judon. That's news to Judon by the.
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: Way, Yeah, I loved that.
- 1:23:31Speaker 5: Yeah, That's why I said, because that was the bot.
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: That was one of the bots. Yeah, and I love that.
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:23:35Speaker 5: Yeah, In like a Christian Barmore extension will probably cost
- 1:23:39Speaker 5: them money in the immediate as well if they were
- 1:23:41Speaker 5: to do that. Obviously, if they agree to an extension
- 1:23:44Speaker 5: with Duggar, that would that would lower his number potentially,
- 1:23:47Speaker 5: but like guys like bar More Judon, any new money
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: would potentially kick in this year.
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: So this is March twentieth, twenty twelve and eight and
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: eight zero win for the Bruins.
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: Okay, Jonathan, why one of those this is this day
- 1:24:03Speaker 4: in history?
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: Such a random game, Jonathan?
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: Is it has an MBA in accounting and is a
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: CPA candidate. He just has that in his email. Longtime
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: listener first time emailer Meryl Hodge came out and said
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: he has a second round grade on May. Meryl has
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: a good stretch of being correct. Do we put any
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: steak in his opinion? Sure?
- 1:24:26Speaker 5: Put in his opinion, just like I do anybody else
- 1:24:28Speaker 5: added to the soup of all these people's opinions.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: I mean, I don't we all got I'd like to
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: know why, Like.
- 1:24:36Speaker 4: I'd also like to know what his stretch of being
- 1:24:38Speaker 4: correct is.
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: Chris Sims had had Harrison like third receiver.
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: Well, Chris Sims has Joe Milton his number four, right
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: or something like that. No, I don't think he has
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: no HEAs does something weird like that he.
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: Got is something weird? Otherwise people won't talk about it.
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, I but I put that in with all
- 1:24:56Speaker 4: the other guys, Like why why should I ignore one
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: guy because doesn't agree with.
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: My I just like to know his details, like what's
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: he seeing or what's he not seeing that others are.
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: Trent writes in He's got a Dynasty question. By the way, Dynasty,
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: we're going to have another final episode of our wrap
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: up with Jeff Benedict and Matt Hammachuck. We had them
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: both in studio at the same time, so yeah, that'll
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: be good, he says. In the episode of The Dynasty,
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: there was a clip from Super Bowl forty two, the
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: eighteen and one season. About the last thirty seconds. It
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: appeared Bill told Brady to play for a field goal.
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: Immediately after, Brady said to Moss, we're canning that, and
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: then he threw a bomb. Do you guys think it
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: was edited to come across as Brady saying we're canning
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: that and going for the win? Or do you think
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: Brady really ignored Bill and threw the hail Mary to
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: Moss on his own. Interested to hear each of your
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: thoughts on this and also what are your opinions of
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: Craft and Bill and Tom after watching The Dynasty? Did
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: it change the way you view any of them? So
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: I remember that part of the Remember that in The
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: Dynasty Brady just kind of went out, he went rogue
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: and said not with I.
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: I don't remember I do in I would also, just
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: you know, not to be nitpicky. I don't think it
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: was a hail married Moss. I think they had Moss
- 1:26:18Speaker 4: deep down the side, you know, regular double coverage like
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: they had most of the year, and the guy made
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: a great play, got a hand on the ball.
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: It was close.
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: They had a.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: Shot, but that was from what I understand, Like, maybe
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: I guess they could have gotten into field goal, but
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: I don't think it was. It was like, how many
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: seconds were left?
- 1:26:36Speaker 4: Thirty like thirty seconds. They could have gotten into field
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: but range.
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: There was thirty seconds left.
- 1:26:41Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean they would have would if he had
- 1:26:43Speaker 5: caught the ball, they would have been like, he wasn't
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: gonna he caught that ball, absolutely, yeah, but they weren't
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: gonna go That wasn't gonna be a touchdown. He's going
- 1:26:49Speaker 5: to get tackled.
- 1:26:50Speaker 4: But do you think that I think the question would
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: be that that the email is trying to get in
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: matriculated down the Can we can we throw three crosses
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: to Welker and get in field goal?
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: Maybe I didn't remember that they got.
- 1:27:04Speaker 4: It was feasible, sure, but I think they got sacked
- 1:27:07Speaker 4: on the first place. To me, that kind of eliminated
- 1:27:10Speaker 4: that right.
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: And wasn't the throat of Moss the last play of
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: the game.
- 1:27:13Speaker 5: No, that was a bad editor edit Okay.
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: They made it out to be that was the last
- 1:27:17Speaker 4: play of the game.
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: It wasn't. Okay.
- 1:27:19Speaker 5: I would also say that I wonder how your opinion
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: would change nothing. Who is this game?
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: It's ate nothing, brus.
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: I also like, now getting into field goal range in
- 1:27:32Speaker 5: thirty seconds is nothing, Like you can you can do
- 1:27:35Speaker 5: that in a second.
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: I mean like if that was Mahomes now I mean.
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: Thirteen Yeah, And that's.
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: That's why, Like I just remember my feeling there like
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: it was a lost cause.
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: It wasn't. It wasn't a lost cause. It's because of
- 1:27:49Speaker 4: the I think the sack probably eliminated the chances of
- 1:27:54Speaker 4: a field goal.
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: Yeah, but you know, snarky Paulo.
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: Chi mean you know, if cut it, would they have
- 1:28:01Speaker 4: gone for the field goal or they've just gone for it,
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: try to get a touchdown.
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: I don't trust didn't trust Castowski.
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: So that's snarky.
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: Sorry, missus Kestowski. If you're still listening. I say, I
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: went back and watched that last episode. I mean we
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: we watched it all together, but as a as just
- 1:28:15Speaker 3: a fawn, I went back and watched it, and I
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: think the last episode was really good. I just think,
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: you know, and I say this as a as a
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: as a Patriots fan, not a Patriots like it's a
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: necessary part of this to tell the whole story. And
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: as I said on the wrap up, we'll always have
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: three games to glory. Do your job. You know, every
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: nice team I own, I own all of them.
- 1:28:36Speaker 5: We will always have Paris, but I.
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: Own all of them. And that'll that'll tell you what
- 1:28:39Speaker 3: all the games were and what the drama was of
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: the seasons and the ups and the downs. But look,
- 1:28:43Speaker 3: as much as you don't want to admit it, like
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: all this other stuff, as they became the biggest thing
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: in sports, it was a part of that story and
- 1:28:50Speaker 3: they told it their way, and yes there were some holes,
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: but I think in the end, if somebody watched that,
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: they would have a full sense of what this Patriots
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: dynasty was. If you just watched America's game, you'd be like, wow,
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: that's not the whole story. Like, you know, really, in
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: the context of the history of space, they were really good.
- 1:29:04Speaker 5: This is part of it, you know.
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: And now you watch the dynasty and it's like they
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: were really good and in a lot of ways even
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: more impressive, especially to win that last one, you know,
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: under the circumstances that they wanted. When you know, guys
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: like mccordy and Slater are telling you just how untenable
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: the situation was among between I should say Tom and Bill. Yeah,
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: you know, Slater was literally a goal between.
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: But the joy had been taken out of winning. And
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: you know, I look at somebody.
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: It didn't have to f and be that way.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: Well, you know, I was talking to someone because you know,
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: if you were making a documentary about a wedding, would
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: you just focus on the negative? And I said, well,
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: if it, yeah, I mean you'd want to know why
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: did it end?
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: Where were the seeds being planted?
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: And yeah, I mean if they just had this magical
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: romance that never had any product story, then none of
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: them No, but none of that would make it into
- 1:29:56Speaker 4: the documentary. If they stayed married but they had an
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: affair between you, did they just ignore that part of
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: the story.
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: Well, so showing the love part was set up the
- 1:30:04Speaker 3: tragedy pretty good, though, you know, Yeah, I.
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: Think that the one thing, as someone that didn't watch
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: it with you guys, so that I think that that's cool. Honestly.
- 1:30:12Speaker 5: I The one thing that I don't understand still is
- 1:30:17Speaker 5: why why did Bill even sit down for this and
- 1:30:22Speaker 5: it all it's either one thing. It's either that he
- 1:30:26Speaker 5: knew it was going to make him look bad so
- 1:30:28Speaker 5: he just let them do it to almost make them
- 1:30:31Speaker 5: look himself look sympathetic. I get like, is that possible
- 1:30:35Speaker 5: that he was sitting there and he was like, well,
- 1:30:37Speaker 5: if they're just gonna drag me for ten episodes, I'll
- 1:30:39Speaker 5: just let them do it, and then they look like the.
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's what it looked like.
- 1:30:45Speaker 4: You say that.
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: I think. I think as an organization, we made a
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: commitment to cooperate with this, you know, and I and
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: maybe it was naive to hope that it would come
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: out all rosy.
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: Yeah, you know.
- 1:30:59Speaker 5: I just feel like he had so many opportunities to
- 1:31:03Speaker 5: a to defend himself in some circumstances, but also to
- 1:31:07Speaker 5: show how great he was like and talk about some
- 1:31:09Speaker 5: of these games and some of these moments, and he
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: just didn't take any well.
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: And that's the thing. You know. The question in the
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: email was did after you see that, did your opinion
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: of any of the three change? My answers, No, I
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: think they're what I thought about them before the documentary
- 1:31:24Speaker 2: is what I think about them Now.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: It made me actually like Tom Brady, which was weird. No,
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: I'm just kidding out, No, I I really felt I
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: didn't feel like I learned anything new or gain a
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: new perspective on anything. Really from one through set eight
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: those episodes like you know, the good stuff, bad stuff,
- 1:31:41Speaker 3: I kind of knew it all. But those last two
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: episodes I think really just pulled the curtain back a
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: little bit on how much it was really falling apart
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: and the things. And we talked about it many times. No, well,
- 1:31:53Speaker 3: I wasn't really listening to you at that point, so
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: I don't know what you're saying as much as I
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: was definitely a fan of the show. But but talk
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: about twenty nineteen. I was here for that, and I
- 1:32:06Speaker 3: saw the tension. I could see Brady looking miserable. I
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: could this is how it is. So I was here
- 1:32:11Speaker 3: for a season you know, of that, And that was
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: what was amazing to me was how did they get
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: to that season? I mean, how did they even get
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: through twenty seventeen and bring it back in eighteen. I
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: mean there's even probably more to mine out of that season,
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: and then they just kind of skip over twenty nineteen,
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: which is like, no, they went two more years together.
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: They continued to do this.
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: In twenty nineteen season, because that was my second year
- 1:32:32Speaker 5: on the beat, and that Brady that season was a
- 1:32:36Speaker 5: miserable human being, right, and they were what eight and
- 1:32:39Speaker 5: nine to zero or something before the Baltimore game, and
- 1:32:42Speaker 5: that's what.
- 1:32:43Speaker 4: They get some criticism for the documentary for not illustrating.
- 1:32:47Speaker 5: That I will never forget standing in Tennessee or is
- 1:32:51Speaker 5: it Detroit one of those joint practices Detroit? And somebody
- 1:32:54Speaker 5: asked him about his contract and it was it was bad.
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: Like he was like, mister yeah, go ask mister Kraft.
- 1:33:01Speaker 5: And you could tell on his face that like at
- 1:33:03Speaker 5: that point, I was like, this is it, Like he's
- 1:33:05Speaker 5: he's gone.
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: I mean, they could have added that in, but I
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: think probably and not, you know, not to speak for them,
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: but they felt that we made the point that he
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: was miserable. We didn't need to show nineteen to show
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: that because we already made.
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: Would say, my only point be a technical thing, which
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: was you made it. You kind of was misleading because
- 1:33:22Speaker 3: it felt like they won the super Bowl and then
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: he left two.
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: Years later without for someone who didn't know I could
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: see them thinking that, and I do think.
- 1:33:29Speaker 4: That the people that have been critical it's been like, oh,
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: they're showing the rift between Bill and Tom. Well, clearly
- 1:33:35Speaker 4: there was another rift that was there and it was
- 1:33:38Speaker 4: playing for everybody to see. They glossed over that in
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: that twenty nineteen season, Tom was mad at the world.
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: In two thousand, it wasn't just Bill at that point.
- 1:33:48Speaker 5: I remember Philly, he got to the podium and they
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: played they played a rock fight against the Eagles, but
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: they won the game, and yeah, Edelman double pass, yeah back,
- 1:33:59Speaker 5: and he was just he was just miserable. I mean,
- 1:34:02Speaker 5: he was just miserable. Were eight no, yeah, yeah, and
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: then they went to Baltimore.
- 1:34:08Speaker 4: Was blown Yeah, and then they they stumbled down the
- 1:34:12Speaker 4: stretch four and five, I think.
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: But his look on his face after the Titans loss
- 1:34:17Speaker 5: here in the wild card round was like relief. And now,
- 1:34:20Speaker 5: you know, I had my first year on the BA,
- 1:34:22Speaker 5: they won the Super Bowl, so I had never seen
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: him lose a playoff game. I was expecting him to
- 1:34:25Speaker 5: be miserable, and he looked like he was happy.
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: They were four and four down the stretch because he
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: got tired of the twelve and fourth season.
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: That was true, he was tired, not for me. Then
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: we lost the playoffs.
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: Lucky for you guys.
- 1:34:40Speaker 4: Never but that's when Al Michael said Tom Brady was
- 1:34:42Speaker 4: the most miserable eight no quarterback in football.
- 1:34:44Speaker 3: Everyone.
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: It was that Sunday night game against Baltimore that they got.
- 1:34:47Speaker 5: They got blood.
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: Let's see who's this, Jeff writes in uh stay, if
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: May trade back if Daniels, as Duke said, we want
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: the Drake if he's not there, the best outcome for
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: one of the draft is wow. I can't believe how
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: much we got for trading back from three. And what
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: do you guys think Cliff Kingsbury and Adam Peters in.
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: D C will prefer I hope they take Jane Daniels.
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: And I don't mean this is like I don't want
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: Jane Daniels. I would be totally happy with him, but
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: I just I would.
- 1:35:15Speaker 5: Prefer I would prefer May And I think we got
- 1:35:17Speaker 5: to do some strongly.
- 1:35:19Speaker 11: In the.
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: Sorry no, I like no, you know, I mean, it's
- 1:35:24Speaker 3: it's just kind of my process of what I you know,
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: I continue to kind of watch these guys a little
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: bit here and there and dig and you know, and
- 1:35:30Speaker 3: it's just I mean, I again, like it's hard to
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: take a stand on one of them without trying to
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: feel like I don't like Jade. Like I think Jane
- 1:35:36Speaker 3: Dams would be great. I would be excited to see
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: him out here. I just think, if I have to
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: roll the dice on one of these two guys, I
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: would just take a chance on the guy who's a
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: little bit younger and you know, still has some skills
- 1:35:47Speaker 3: to develop. But I mean, they both have skills to develop,
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: so you know, I I won't be complaining at all
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: if they take Daniels. But honestly, after those two, I
- 1:35:53Speaker 3: don't really have any use for any other quarterbacks.
- 1:35:55Speaker 7: In this draft.
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: I couldn't agree more that tell Aldred that it stinks
- 1:35:59Speaker 5: that it we all have to trash Daniels to support Like,
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: I like both these guys a lot too. I think
- 1:36:04Speaker 5: the difference, just to me, is that so much of
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: Jaden Daniels's production came on throwing fades to those two receivers,
- 1:36:11Speaker 5: and it's like, if he doesn't have those two guys
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: that are true ball winners on the outside, that can
- 1:36:16Speaker 5: really win matchups and things like that, and it's all
- 1:36:19Speaker 5: on him to process the field and make decisions, and yeah, exactly.
- 1:36:23Speaker 5: I just I think that that's gonna be Justin Field's
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: ish for him early and whether or not he pulls
- 1:36:30Speaker 5: out of it, it's going to be if they can
- 1:36:32Speaker 5: get him the receivers to win on the outside.
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: Patrick's and Florida. What's up, Patrick?
- 1:36:39Speaker 8: Hello?
- 1:36:40Speaker 17: Yes, Hey, Hi, Yeah, a longtime listener, first time caller.
- 1:36:45Speaker 11: I just wanted to.
- 1:36:45Speaker 8: Say, you know, a lot of people are talking about
- 1:36:49Speaker 8: not being able to get receiver talent in free agency.
- 1:36:52Speaker 8: I think if we take a quarterback this year.
- 1:36:54Speaker 17: At three, it's gonna make it a whole lot easier.
- 1:36:56Speaker 8: To attract those receivers to come to us.
- 1:36:59Speaker 3: That's the Oh yeah, I mean that's the hope down
- 1:37:01Speaker 3: the road. I mean, that's and that's kind of speaks
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: to what I said of guys want to play for him,
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: you know. And I think, you know, you can go
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: back to Paul and Bledsoe in the nineties where you
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: felt like you were building a little something. I don't
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: think anybody came out of last year feeling like we're
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: building a little something here. It felt like we were
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: kind of hanging on to an old model that wasn't
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: working anymore.
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like ninety four Patriots. They weren't a contender,
- 1:37:20Speaker 4: but they were clearly on the rise, and you could
- 1:37:22Speaker 4: say ninety six you're a contender.
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: Yep, Thanks Patrick, appreciate the call. John in New York's
- 1:37:29Speaker 2: giving in another shot, what's up, John?
- 1:37:31Speaker 17: Hey, I was just wondering, is this smart to pick
- 1:37:35Speaker 17: Luke McCaffrey at thirty four or wait until day three?
- 1:37:38Speaker 17: Thickens he can play quarterbacks, but he changed his position
- 1:37:41Speaker 17: to wide receiver.
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: So Luke McCaffrey is Christian.
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: McCaffrey, like Brendan Wright, likes family.
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: Thanks, so, yeah, Luke McCaffrey is Christian McCaffrey's brother who
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: plays wide receiver. And it is a Day three guy.
- 1:37:55Speaker 5: They probably fourth fifth round something.
- 1:37:57Speaker 4: Pretty sure he knew that based on yeah, yeah.
- 1:37:59Speaker 3: Following, because you could get like a Luke chant for.
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: I just like to know some people are talking about
- 1:38:05Speaker 5: so I just, you know, want to make sure everybody
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: I do find that though a lot of people are
- 1:38:10Speaker 5: Marvin Harrison, Junior, Brendan Rice, Luke McCaffrey, all because of
- 1:38:14Speaker 5: the bloodlines, you know, it's all because of who their
- 1:38:17Speaker 5: fathers are and who their brothers are and stuff like that.
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: Who's the linebacker two from the Eagles that's got a
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: kid in this one?
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: That's crazy?
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: How about me?
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: That's how old doing your research?
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: Not really long, Gino from Jersey writes in I just
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: want to express that it's very understanding why Belichick doesn't
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: answer media questions. Hearing from Paul shows and seeing mostly
- 1:38:40Speaker 2: on other social media how often people bring up Mayo
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: and Elliott quotes about weaponizing the offense and having money
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: to burn. It's ridiculous how much they get ridiculed for
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: saying those things, as much as I understand why they
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: said that. Realistically, you can't fix everything in free agency,
- 1:38:56Speaker 2: especially if players don't want to come here. But there's
- 1:38:58Speaker 2: still time, and I'm hoping they can get three hits
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: off the draft. I know the chances aren't that good,
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: but one can hope.
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: That's I was thinking that this is a learning process
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: for these new guys, I think, and I think they've
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: slipped up a couple of times with stuff that Bill
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: in his first go around made have made that mistake,
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: and that's why he shut it down. Where you can't
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: kind of make an off the cuff kind of comment
- 1:39:18Speaker 3: like money to burn or weaponize and this is what's
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: gonna happen. It's going to get thrown back in your face.
- 1:39:24Speaker 4: I strongly agree with that notion. That's why Bill didn't
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: say anything. But I completely disagree with like, it's been
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: unfair to criticize. You don't say those things, not do
- 1:39:34Speaker 4: them and expect everybody to say, oh well, And you
- 1:39:37Speaker 4: don't have to be mad that they didn't spend money
- 1:39:39Speaker 4: because you know, we talked about the off season. I
- 1:39:42Speaker 4: don't think there were a ton of opportunities to spend
- 1:39:44Speaker 4: a lot of money. Ridley the exception, right, but.
- 1:39:47Speaker 2: When they were willing to spend a lot.
- 1:39:48Speaker 4: But when you say that and then don't do it,
- 1:39:51Speaker 4: I don't know why it's unfair to then question that.
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: And I don't think they've been questioned over the top
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: about it.
- 1:39:57Speaker 5: I think that's my biggest critique so far of the
- 1:40:00Speaker 5: off season is you over promised, under promise, and over deliver.
- 1:40:04Speaker 16: Right.
- 1:40:04Speaker 4: So, there was a really interesting thing and I want
- 1:40:06Speaker 4: to give you a plug here, Ev and you and
- 1:40:08Speaker 4: Mike when you talk to when you talk to Elliott
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: Wolf at the combine and your boy Alex brought this
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: up on Sunday. I had an unbelievable two hour stint
- 1:40:17Speaker 4: with Alex Body, which unbe.
- 1:40:25Speaker 7: No.
- 1:40:25Speaker 4: But Alex called out the quote that you guys had
- 1:40:28Speaker 4: from Elliott. It was much more measured than full throttle
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: money to burn all this. And he talked about, and
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: I'm paraphrasing a little bit, just you know, the different
- 1:40:38Speaker 4: ways that you have to do it. It's not just
- 1:40:40Speaker 4: about but to ignore free agency is foolish or something
- 1:40:44Speaker 4: like that, you know, and that's like, that's what he's
- 1:40:46Speaker 4: talking about. Well, they kind of did. They resigned, Like,
- 1:40:50Speaker 4: I understand that money is money, so you spend money
- 1:40:54Speaker 4: on your own guys, you spend money on other guys.
- 1:40:56Speaker 4: I do not count re signing your own guys as
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: free agency. It's necessary in some cases. I'm not diminishing it.
- 1:41:03Speaker 4: But free agency to me is the guys that they
- 1:41:06Speaker 4: signed from other teams. That's that's your free agency. So
- 1:41:10Speaker 4: like they kind of did ignore free agency in this
- 1:41:13Speaker 4: that they chose to get a handful of guys on
- 1:41:16Speaker 4: one year deals that aren't really gonna be.
- 1:41:19Speaker 3: Gibson and Talkie TALKI the only ones that got more
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: than one.
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: Paul, is it okay to ignore the supplemental draft?
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: Yes?
- 1:41:26Speaker 5: Hey, Terrell prior came from the supplemental draft. Tim writes
- 1:41:30Speaker 5: in to Gerrod Cherry, don't disrespect Tim.
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: Our friend from Duncan says, I missed the first part
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: of the show, and you may have already talked about
- 1:41:38Speaker 2: the Tom Brady ceremony on June twelfth, if not to
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: have any more details other than the time and date, Well,
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: season ticket holders have first priority and tickets. Yes you will.
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: If you're season ticket holders, you're probably get to notice
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: in the mailiness been made.
- 1:41:54Speaker 4: Had that not been made public until yesterday.
- 1:41:58Speaker 5: I Roberts say June twelve, I think he did. I
- 1:42:02Speaker 5: thought I could have sworn he did. Yeah, but everybody we.
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: Did it was confirmed.
- 1:42:06Speaker 5: Is the thing that we released the full schedule the
- 1:42:08Speaker 5: spring and put it.
- 1:42:09Speaker 4: Everybody was like, oh, and the Patriot's gonna also could
- 1:42:12Speaker 4: have sworn.
- 1:42:13Speaker 9: He said about that us getting a full schedule.
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: I know, yeah, people don't know what you're talking about.
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: Go ahead and explain.
- 1:42:19Speaker 9: Oh, just having the ability to see your entire like
- 1:42:22Speaker 9: off season schedule, OTA's mini camp, rookie minicamp, all the things.
- 1:42:26Speaker 9: It's crazy. We never usually get there, no usually find
- 1:42:28Speaker 9: out seventy two hours.
- 1:42:30Speaker 5: Before Well, I what I agree, and what I'm even
- 1:42:32Speaker 5: more excited about is we get to go to a
- 1:42:35Speaker 5: day of rookie mini.
- 1:42:35Speaker 3: Camp, which I'm a little bit I'm concerned about that.
- 1:42:39Speaker 5: I am concerned about it as well. But if they
- 1:42:41Speaker 5: do take a quarterback third, overall, it's gonna.
- 1:42:43Speaker 3: He can't hit anything. He looks terrible as.
- 1:42:45Speaker 4: Someone who covered out, as someone who covered about fifteen
- 1:42:49Speaker 4: rookie mini camps before Bill stopped allowing the media to
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: go to that, you're not gonna be happy with that.
- 1:42:55Speaker 4: I'm just gonna let you know that.
- 1:42:56Speaker 3: You mean, not happy with what they're doing having to
- 1:42:58Speaker 3: cover it.
- 1:42:58Speaker 4: It's having to cover it. It's not it's not a
- 1:43:01Speaker 4: fun of it is that because not much goes on.
- 1:43:04Speaker 4: It's like hurting cats. Yeah, and it was also it
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: was also the time that I got but tell you
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: just Chad Jackson.
- 1:43:12Speaker 5: Oh yeah, well, I'm sure he looked Freddy.
- 1:43:16Speaker 4: They got a good one in this.
- 1:43:17Speaker 5: Chat, certainly.
- 1:43:21Speaker 3: But that scares me even more because if there's nothing
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: really to watch or say, people are going to start
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: to have opinions about what they saw and start to draw.
- 1:43:29Speaker 5: And all of a sudden, That's exactly what I'm talking right, and.
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: So this I you know, and I would I would
- 1:43:34Speaker 3: connect this to money to burn, like are we sure
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: like we want to you know, start having people forming
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: opinions about how Drake may held his shoulder pads when
- 1:43:43Speaker 3: he walked onto the field or you know what I mean,
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: like those stupid things, and that will happen and people
- 1:43:47Speaker 3: are going to start to.
- 1:43:47Speaker 4: Be It was one of the was it was one
- 1:43:50Speaker 4: of the less is more things that Bill did that
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: I agreed with. Yeah, I think that the rookies have
- 1:43:56Speaker 4: enough to worry about then to have for people standing
- 1:44:01Speaker 4: on the sideline watching their every move as they're simply
- 1:44:04Speaker 4: trying to learn the new terminology of what the system
- 1:44:07Speaker 4: that they're coming into is. They're not ready to be evaluated.
- 1:44:11Speaker 4: And I don't care how many times the coaches say
- 1:44:13Speaker 4: this is not evaluation. Everybody there is going to be evaluating.
- 1:44:17Speaker 4: There'll be people putting video clips up on their timeline
- 1:44:20Speaker 4: showing this guy's great, this guy's stinks. It's not fair
- 1:44:24Speaker 4: to the rookies, and I understand why Bill stopped allowing
- 1:44:26Speaker 4: us to go to it.
- 1:44:27Speaker 3: They say the same thing about Mini camp, where it's
- 1:44:28Speaker 3: this is teaching, this is and it's the same thing
- 1:44:31Speaker 3: and we're guilty of it two but.
- 1:44:32Speaker 5: We all do it. Yeah, I I I'm excited for
- 1:44:35Speaker 5: us from a content standpoint, because it's great to get
- 1:44:38Speaker 5: the content in the off season, is what I'm more meant.
- 1:44:40Speaker 5: But I couldn't agree more that we don't need to
- 1:44:42Speaker 5: be there. It's not it's not for in the best
- 1:44:45Speaker 5: interest of any of the guys out there.
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: There's really nothing to be gained from an analysis standpoint.
- 1:44:52Speaker 4: You know, I think it was the year do you remember, right,
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: I mean I forget.
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: I mean it's it's it's for the dumb side of
- 1:44:57Speaker 3: me that likes like football aesthetics, and they might actually
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: get their numbers and they'll have like their little get
- 1:45:01Speaker 3: up on all that nerd part of movie, like oh
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: he looks like he looks good, you know.
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: But hopefully they can do that. Hopefully. That's one of
- 1:45:07Speaker 4: the things that Bill did that we.
- 1:45:08Speaker 5: So so what we were talking about this upstairs with Tease.
- 1:45:12Speaker 5: Drake May wore ten in in college. Zero ten was
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: obviously he's not gonna wear twelve. So I you know
- 1:45:23Speaker 5: what quarterback number I'm not.
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: They'll tell you what. Taki Taki wearing sixteen tried me nuts.
- 1:45:28Speaker 5: So that's why I'm worried about it.
- 1:45:29Speaker 4: I mean it was sixteen last year.
- 1:45:31Speaker 3: No, he's wearing it now like it just was on
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: like Instagram, he put it on it will.
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: Be the first one to write Jacoby Brissett went through
- 1:45:37Speaker 2: the drills first. Does that mean he's gonna start?
- 1:45:39Speaker 5: I know, I know, I have some names for you.
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: Jalen Ragers. Jalen Raggers leading the wide receivers. He's shooting
- 1:45:45Speaker 3: up the depth chart. Oh my god, like.
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: Off Jayden Daniels is five. Was trying to think of
- 1:45:52Speaker 5: it off the top of my head. I think five
- 1:45:54Speaker 5: is taken right by your boybrill.
- 1:45:57Speaker 7: Yeah, so I know.
- 1:46:00Speaker 3: It's I'm fine with I'm fine with ten. I think
- 1:46:02Speaker 3: it's a quarterback.
- 1:46:03Speaker 4: It's probably going to be ten.
- 1:46:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I like ten as well.
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: Like eleven.
- 1:46:07Speaker 3: I won't bum me mac mac did not ruin ten
- 1:46:09Speaker 3: for me. Like the litany of receivers who are failed
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: in seventeen have, which is what I.
- 1:46:14Speaker 5: If Xavierly get where seventeen?
- 1:46:17Speaker 3: I mean, I think what's his face? Is going to
- 1:46:18Speaker 3: take it? Osborne? He was seventeen minutes.
- 1:46:20Speaker 5: Oh so that's fine. I just let him take it.
- 1:46:22Speaker 5: Bust there's a bust guy. Sorry, I would like Gonzales.
- 1:46:26Speaker 5: I know a lot of people probably bought his jersey already,
- 1:46:28Speaker 5: so I'm sorry. But Zero. I know everybody likes zero.
- 1:46:31Speaker 5: I want him in twenty four, like getting you Oh
- 1:46:34Speaker 5: the zero no, No, twenty four is that's the Patriots
- 1:46:37Speaker 5: cornerback number, ty Law, Durell Reeves, Stefan Gilmore.
- 1:46:40Speaker 9: Okay, but what if Stefan Gilmore comes back?
- 1:46:42Speaker 7: Be open to it?
- 1:46:43Speaker 5: Then that's a different story. Open to it. But I
- 1:46:47Speaker 5: want I want thy Law to hand Christian Gonzales twenty
- 1:46:50Speaker 5: four and be like it's yours now, kid. Well, there
- 1:46:52Speaker 5: you go with a bottle of fud.
- 1:46:54Speaker 9: If Stefan Gilmore comes back, he's gonna want twenty four.
- 1:46:56Speaker 9: So gonza, who are zero?
- 1:46:58Speaker 4: I hate zero? Can I tell you?
- 1:47:00Speaker 7: I like six.
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: I think that decimal points should come into play.
- 1:47:04Speaker 3: Might get that, might open up about slash point two.
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: I don't know about symbols, but like you know.
- 1:47:09Speaker 3: Just the period pie symbols.
- 1:47:12Speaker 2: Yeah, one and a hey.
- 1:47:14Speaker 4: He's three point one four.
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: Drake is gonna wear the pound symbol.
- 1:47:17Speaker 9: I will say certain colleges they have like mascots, and
- 1:47:22Speaker 9: they have like a normal sized mascot and then they'll
- 1:47:25Speaker 9: have a baby one and it'll be like half the
- 1:47:27Speaker 9: jersey will say like yeah, like like that, it's like
- 1:47:32Speaker 9: a little cub, so.
- 1:47:33Speaker 5: Cute, Like.
- 1:47:40Speaker 4: One of these days on the show, I'm going to
- 1:47:41Speaker 4: get this out nice, you.
- 1:47:44Speaker 2: Know, like guy goes by three quarters three quarters, Yeah.
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: I mean, just you just need to identify him. At
- 1:47:51Speaker 3: what point did they realize that guys didn't need to
- 1:47:53Speaker 3: have the first like if they had the same last name,
- 1:47:55Speaker 3: you didn't have to have the first initial because they're
- 1:47:57Speaker 3: different numbers, Like you don't need to have like J.
- 1:47:59Speaker 3: Mccordy and D m accordy because they're thirty two.
- 1:48:01Speaker 5: And the easier thing is is the you know, when
- 1:48:05Speaker 5: you watch them on the All twenty two, you got
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: to look at like are they wearing long socks? Are
- 1:48:09Speaker 5: they wearing one sock is up, one sock is down,
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: They're wearing like an armband. You're not looking at it,
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: because that's how you have to figure out like who's
- 1:48:16Speaker 5: who's who sometimes from the bird's eye, because you can't.
- 1:48:19Speaker 3: See the numbers and the numbers on our shoulders well
- 1:48:21Speaker 3: and it's.
- 1:48:21Speaker 5: Not clear enough. You know, you're so high at the
- 1:48:23Speaker 5: angle is so.
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: What about like like triangles, trying circle.
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: I mean Prince went to a symbol. You know, you
- 1:48:29Speaker 3: could just make it up. Yeah, I just wish that
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: it was more like TV twelve is just TB twelve.
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: Now he's not at twelve these.
- 1:48:34Speaker 9: TV next thing, you know, the next thing, you know,
- 1:48:38Speaker 9: it's great radio. Next thing. You know, it's going to
- 1:48:40Speaker 9: be social media handles on the back of the jerseys.
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: Sure, oh yeah, that's right right there.
- 1:48:46Speaker 3: Put their last names. They're going to put them.
- 1:48:47Speaker 7: I think you see.
- 1:48:48Speaker 9: I think U c F did it for like nil purposes,
- 1:48:51Speaker 9: like their guys wore social media handles.
- 1:48:53Speaker 5: Come back crazy.
- 1:48:54Speaker 4: Oh that was a big thing in basketball coming out
- 1:48:56Speaker 4: of the VID. Yeah, all the all the teams.
- 1:49:00Speaker 3: That I heard that on the radio too this morning.
- 1:49:08Speaker 3: Someone called it the VID. We might have been listening
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: to it as.
- 1:49:10Speaker 4: Hard and I certainly didn't invent it.
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: Patty's what's up? Patty going on?
- 1:49:16Speaker 10: Everyone?
- 1:49:17Speaker 3: He Patty.
- 1:49:20Speaker 10: Collin because I'm going to be on a plane Thursday.
- 1:49:22Speaker 10: I just I just wanted to express something that's been
- 1:49:24Speaker 10: really bothering me lately, and that's I think there's a
- 1:49:28Speaker 10: lot of fans with unrealistic expectations that even if they
- 1:49:31Speaker 10: had knocked free agency out of the park, not number
- 1:49:35Speaker 10: three like with either Daniels or May, that this team
- 1:49:38Speaker 10: was gonna just turn it around in one season, And
- 1:49:42Speaker 10: I just I don't get it, Like, yeah, maybe I'm
- 1:49:45Speaker 10: not smoking the good stuff like a lot of these
- 1:49:47Speaker 10: other fans are smoking. But realistically, I mean, if you
- 1:49:52Speaker 10: look at Holprep, this offense was with talent, I don't
- 1:49:57Speaker 10: know how anyone realistically and logically could think they were
- 1:50:00Speaker 10: going to turn it around in one year.
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: This mean, well, I've heard I haven't heard a lot
- 1:50:06Speaker 2: of people saying and I'm talking about fans and then
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: people on Paul's shows, thanks for the call. But I
- 1:50:12Speaker 2: haven't heard a lot of people say I think they're
- 1:50:14Speaker 2: going to make the playoffs this year, because there's no
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: basis in which to say that. There might be a few,
- 1:50:19Speaker 2: but the vast majority of people are just looking for
- 1:50:23Speaker 2: signs of improvement and hopefully.
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: I agree with you, Fred, but in that regard, like,
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: I don't think that you have to be unrealistic and
- 1:50:32Speaker 4: think they're going to make the playoffs. Who have wanted
- 1:50:34Speaker 4: them to do more to improve the team, Like I
- 1:50:37Speaker 4: think people are looking at it realistically and saying, Okay,
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: maybe they won't be great this year, right, but you
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: get a couple of people that can help you, and
- 1:50:46Speaker 4: then you get a couple more people the next year,
- 1:50:48Speaker 4: and all of a sudden, you are great at some point,
- 1:50:50Speaker 4: Like you can't just go from we're bereft of talent
- 1:50:53Speaker 4: on offense, we don't add anybody on offense, and all
- 1:50:56Speaker 4: of a sudden, two years we're going to be great.
- 1:50:58Speaker 2: I don't know if it was two nights ago, maybe
- 1:51:00Speaker 2: Badard and Felger got into like a little debate on
- 1:51:04Speaker 2: the TV show, and I don't know the genesis of it.
- 1:51:09Speaker 2: I only caught some of it. Felger was basically his
- 1:51:12Speaker 2: side was why can't we be you know, why don't
- 1:51:15Speaker 2: you want them to win games now? And Badard was
- 1:51:19Speaker 2: more like, you know, be patient and all that.
- 1:51:20Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: I just think it's how I feel.
- 1:51:23Speaker 3: I feel like, well, I think it's just a little
- 1:51:25Speaker 3: bit it's a little bit extreme, and it's I think
- 1:51:27Speaker 3: it's it's okay to be disappointed without saying that they
- 1:51:30Speaker 3: totally blew it. I think they're disappointed, probably that they
- 1:51:33Speaker 3: weren't able to secure Calvin Ridley, so I can express
- 1:51:36Speaker 3: disappointment and not feel like, well, just forget it then,
- 1:51:39Speaker 3: you know.
- 1:51:40Speaker 4: And I've heard a lot of that, like why would
- 1:51:42Speaker 4: you want to spend money on players who aren't going
- 1:51:45Speaker 4: to be here? A why would you want to spend more?
- 1:51:47Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: What good is he going to do? Like you're not
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: going to be good anyway? So does that mean we
- 1:51:52Speaker 4: shouldn't try to prove our team? Like should Antonio playing
- 1:51:56Speaker 4: this year because he'll be a better third down back
- 1:51:58Speaker 4: than the they're down back that everybody's been saying that
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: they didn't have last year? Like should he not try?
- 1:52:05Speaker 5: I just think that there's a middle ground. And I
- 1:52:09Speaker 5: think one of the concerns that I have is that
- 1:52:12Speaker 5: you do want jirod Mayo to have some success next
- 1:52:14Speaker 5: year for his sake, for his sake, for the program's sake.
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: And I think one of the biggest thing that we
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: don't you know, I think some people think it's an excuse,
- 1:52:23Speaker 5: but the reality is that they weren't a draw for
- 1:52:26Speaker 5: free agents. The only thing that was drawing free agents
- 1:52:29Speaker 5: here was money, and when the money got silly on
- 1:52:31Speaker 5: certain guys, they bowed out of it. But the only
- 1:52:35Speaker 5: thing that they could have done to draw Calvin Ridley
- 1:52:37Speaker 5: to the New England Patriots was pay him a hundred
- 1:52:38Speaker 5: million dollars. That was it. And I think that you
- 1:52:42Speaker 5: have to have some things that you can sit here
- 1:52:45Speaker 5: and say in a year, we have Drake May, we
- 1:52:47Speaker 5: have Christian Gonzalez, we have this, we have that, and
- 1:52:50Speaker 5: we're building towards something here. Last year we overachieved maybe
- 1:52:54Speaker 5: a little bit, and we won six or seven games
- 1:52:56Speaker 5: like that. If you don't get to that point, then
- 1:52:59Speaker 5: where's the momentum? And I worry that that they're going
- 1:53:02Speaker 5: to be stuck.
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: They must do well in the draft.
- 1:53:06Speaker 4: It's the it's I agree, but it's the argument that
- 1:53:09Speaker 4: like it's not gonna matter anyway that I don't understand.
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: And that's where I agree with Fellows, right, and I'm
- 1:53:14Speaker 4: gonna watch good football, Like he said, Okay, so you're
- 1:53:17Speaker 4: going to draft a guy at number three as a quarterback,
- 1:53:20Speaker 4: but he's probably maybe you don't want him to play.
- 1:53:23Speaker 4: Can we get the best quarterback that we could possibly
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: get to put us in position to win as many games?
- 1:53:27Speaker 4: Even though I understand that I'm drafting someone the third pick,
- 1:53:30Speaker 4: and when I'm good again, that third pick is going
- 1:53:33Speaker 4: to be the guy that's going to court. Like, I
- 1:53:35Speaker 4: think that that's a rational idea. Now, if you think
- 1:53:38Speaker 4: Jacoby Brissett is better than every other guy, that's fine too.
- 1:53:41Speaker 4: That's your opinion, you know, But I don't think most
- 1:53:43Speaker 4: people think that way. And I'm not saying that you do.
- 1:53:46Speaker 4: That wasn't take.
- 1:53:48Speaker 5: Kobe over a lot of these guys. I mean, I
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: he would have time for another show? Is we're getting
- 1:53:54Speaker 5: up against it? But I have an example? Sure, give
- 1:53:56Speaker 5: me one. Uh, I don't know. I mean, like I
- 1:54:00Speaker 5: think him and Gardner Minshew to me are a wash.
- 1:54:04Speaker 5: I would agree with that, and I I just I
- 1:54:07Speaker 5: think that Brissett's a better fit for the things Fred said.
- 1:54:12Speaker 5: So I just think there's a.
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: Line too though, of like how much you're gonna give
- 1:54:15Speaker 3: this guy, like you know, you need to be fiscally responsible?
- 1:54:18Speaker 5: Like what was like what was the move?
- 1:54:20Speaker 7: Was it?
- 1:54:20Speaker 5: Russell Wilson? Is that what?
- 1:54:22Speaker 7: Oh?
- 1:54:22Speaker 4: No, I was right? So what was I actually think
- 1:54:26Speaker 4: Wilson's falling so far. I don't think there's much of
- 1:54:28Speaker 4: a difference between him and I mean neither.
- 1:54:29Speaker 5: So what's the different Like, what's the move that everybody
- 1:54:32Speaker 5: like to make? The Oh, we could have taken this
- 1:54:34Speaker 5: better quarterback, veteran quarterback, Like, who is it?
- 1:54:37Speaker 4: I mean, you would have had to have been involved
- 1:54:39Speaker 4: in the guys that we're going to cost you some money.
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean we were talking about Baker Mayfield before
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: he signed. But to me bringing Baker Mayfield, you're not
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: drafting a quarterback at three.
- 1:54:48Speaker 5: Right, but I would have Yeah, you're not paying one
- 1:54:52Speaker 5: hundred quarterback.
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: And then I'm trying to Yeah, I don't really care
- 1:54:56Speaker 4: about the money, like it's just it's not mine. I
- 1:54:59Speaker 4: get it.
- 1:54:59Speaker 2: No, if you were GM, you would care about.
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: But I would. I would want both, and I didn't
- 1:55:06Speaker 4: get both.
- 1:55:07Speaker 3: It's a tough conversation for Elliot Wolf to go to
- 1:55:08Speaker 3: Robert Craft and say, we're gonna, yeah, I need a
- 1:55:10Speaker 3: hundred million from Mayfield and we're gonna sign this guy
- 1:55:13Speaker 3: and we're gonna have to give him one hundred million
- 1:55:14Speaker 3: and three years.
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: By that time, Mayfield strong in five years. Eldred's in
- 1:55:18Speaker 2: North Carolina? What's up? Eldred?
- 1:55:22Speaker 18: Hey, Tomorrow fell, how y'all doing?
- 1:55:24Speaker 2: All right?
- 1:55:24Speaker 18: Hey, I ain't got enough time, but Paul throwing Daggers
- 1:55:30Speaker 18: Towns back. But I can't do it today, Okay, I
- 1:55:33Speaker 18: got a question next shows at me? Really yeah, No,
- 1:55:41Speaker 18: it's just all the fun, Paul, just all the fun.
- 1:55:43Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I mean, I hope I hope you know
- 1:55:45Speaker 4: that because I don't throw it one of my favorites.
- 1:55:48Speaker 5: I don't throw any daggers at you.
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: I think somebody might have said something about Panix.
- 1:55:53Speaker 4: Certainly wasn't me. I like Michael Pennick.
- 1:55:55Speaker 18: No, I wasn't that. It wasn't that. It was about
- 1:55:57Speaker 18: the quarterback, the best throws and all this and that. Yeah, whatever,
- 1:56:01Speaker 18: But okay, left tackle Josh Jones still idea for free
- 1:56:05Speaker 18: agent if I got any.
- 1:56:09Speaker 5: Interesting yeah, him, Charles Leno, if you want like the
- 1:56:13Speaker 5: veteran guy, h then there, you know, I don't know
- 1:56:16Speaker 5: William I mentioned Becton earlier as like the lottery ticket.
- 1:56:21Speaker 4: I'd be interested in Becton. He would intrigue me as
- 1:56:23Speaker 4: a one year guy more than the other guys, you know,
- 1:56:26Speaker 4: DJ Humphrees twenty a c L.
- 1:56:28Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:56:29Speaker 5: I'm tempted with Leno to just say, you know, he
- 1:56:31Speaker 5: could be a serviceable left tackle for twenty twenty four
- 1:56:35Speaker 5: and when you draft a guy day two that you
- 1:56:37Speaker 5: develop and all. But I agree that if you're trying
- 1:56:39Speaker 5: to go for upside. Then Becton is definitely that guy.
- 1:56:43Speaker 13: Beckham the guy.
- 1:56:44Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, well they got at Okay, last question, Uh, yes, sir.
- 1:56:51Speaker 18: Did you say Daniel's best throat.
- 1:56:54Speaker 5: Is the fade corner slot fade?
- 1:56:55Speaker 18: What's Drake Maye?
- 1:56:57Speaker 7: Oh?
- 1:56:57Speaker 5: Good question. Probably I would say probably the post. Yeah,
- 1:57:02Speaker 5: I'd say probably the post.
- 1:57:04Speaker 18: Yeah, here it comes, all right, Well, oh that's he
- 1:57:07Speaker 18: is wide over received.
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: He's well done. I fell for it.
- 1:57:15Speaker 4: I must have the most unbelievable offense ever. Then, because
- 1:57:18Speaker 4: all their guys were wide open, somehow we completed all
