- 0:05Speaker 1: The Jags fall in their home opener against the Chiefs
- 0:08Speaker 1: and the offense struggled to get anything going yesterday. Is
- 0:11Speaker 1: this a one offers, There's some serious concerns they need to.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Address, not necessarily serious, but concerns and they can fix it.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Uh both. I think it's a one off.
- 0:20Speaker 4: It's only a one off if they can fix these
- 0:22Speaker 4: issues with your detail.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Ischiees Welcome into Jags am here in Hyundai Studios, presented
- 0:47Speaker 1: by Carshield here today. And I don't know if any
- 0:50Speaker 1: of us expected exactly what we saw on Sunday. I
- 0:52Speaker 1: wouldn't be have been surprised if the Chiefs won the game,
- 0:55Speaker 1: but the way that they won and the way both
- 0:56Speaker 1: teams played it was a little anemic. We talked about
- 1:00Speaker 1: we were going to see a shootout in that home opener,
- 1:02Speaker 1: and unfortunately we saw it like a defensive battle and
- 1:05Speaker 1: then just just some weird football.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:07Speaker 2: You know, if I had regret for the loss yesterday,
- 1:10Speaker 2: it wouldn't be for the fact that they lost to
- 1:12Speaker 2: the Chiefs.
- 1:13Speaker 3: I mean, that's the Super Bowl champions.
- 1:14Speaker 2: It's tough to beat them, and we all knew that
- 1:16Speaker 2: it would be that the offense didn't appear ready to
- 1:19Speaker 2: play on a day that they took center stage. I mean,
- 1:23Speaker 2: the personality of this team is Trevor Lawrence and the offense,
- 1:27Speaker 2: and we expect more from them based on what we've seen,
- 1:31Speaker 2: and they didn't deliver or they weren't prepared. Hard to say,
- 1:36Speaker 2: except that they better get it fixed quick.
- 1:38Speaker 4: It felt more to me like not delivering than not preparing.
- 1:42Speaker 4: And it's the old thing the NFL. Evan Ingram said
- 1:47Speaker 4: it every inch counts. How many plays did they have
- 1:51Speaker 4: where the ball was touching Jaguars hands and there were
- 1:54Speaker 4: feet around the end zone and it didn't happen.
- 1:57Speaker 3: If those go in, we're not quite as concerned.
- 2:01Speaker 4: But it was oddly clanky for a team that you
- 2:04Speaker 4: expected more out of.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Let me clarify, they didn't say that they weren't prepared, right,
- 2:10Speaker 2: they didn't prepare. There's something that was off, and I'm
- 2:13Speaker 2: going to go into this in my hot take. Preparing
- 2:16Speaker 2: is more than just time on the practice field. There's
- 2:18Speaker 2: a mental side of this game that you have to
- 2:20Speaker 2: be prepared for as well. That was the part that.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Looked off to me, and I think we all were
- 2:24Speaker 1: their postgame, A lot of what we heard was execution
- 2:26Speaker 1: right and not necessarily the game plan wasn't there that
- 2:28Speaker 1: they didn't execute. They didn't do what they needed to do.
- 2:31Speaker 1: So let's go through some of our big things. Big
- 2:32Speaker 1: thing one is field goals. You're not going to beat
- 2:34Speaker 1: the Chiefs if you go for field goals, and that's
- 2:36Speaker 1: exactly what happened. I didn't find the end zone at
- 2:39Speaker 1: all on Sunday against the Chiefs, and that's got to
- 2:42Speaker 1: be a concern for this team.
- 2:45Speaker 5: A lot of opportunities, you know, is disjointed, as some
- 2:48Speaker 5: of the things kind of were throughout the game. It
- 2:49Speaker 5: was just a sloppy game, I think, all over the place.
- 2:51Speaker 5: But we had our opportunities. We were in the red
- 2:53Speaker 5: zone four times and came away with nine points and
- 2:57Speaker 5: that's you know, can't do that. You're not going to
- 2:59Speaker 5: be good teams when you do that. So we got
- 3:01Speaker 5: to be better.
- 3:03Speaker 1: John, you just mentioned it. There was at least three
- 3:05Speaker 1: or four touchdowns that would have been if the feet
- 3:08Speaker 1: were in right, and just the frustration there that comes
- 3:11Speaker 1: with that when you see that. Is it just is
- 3:13Speaker 1: that the mental aspect that they didn't quite have or is.
- 3:15Speaker 4: It just oh, I think it's just being a hair
- 3:18Speaker 4: off and having to go against you that. Now, I
- 3:21Speaker 4: will say this, in this league, when you bring it
- 3:25Speaker 4: down to that, then you haven't done something else right.
- 3:28Speaker 4: And you know, I guess I'm thinking the last week
- 3:30Speaker 4: when the Zay Jones play was celebrated as an amazing catch,
- 3:35Speaker 4: and it was it was really close to being one
- 3:38Speaker 4: of those plays we saw yesterday. But you know, you
- 3:42Speaker 4: react and you frame it. If it's a score, everybody's happy.
- 3:44Speaker 4: If it's not, everybody's an idiot. So I think there
- 3:47Speaker 4: is an element of that. You had the Christian Kirk play,
- 3:49Speaker 4: which was like one little clip of the of the
- 3:53Speaker 4: foot almost a touchdown. If some of those go, we're
- 3:56Speaker 4: not talking about this, but Brian, in this league, if
- 3:59Speaker 4: they don't go, they don't go, And you had to
- 4:02Speaker 4: talk about it.
- 4:02Speaker 2: No, and it it's spirals. I mean yesterday you could
- 4:07Speaker 2: you can feel the frustration through your television screen or
- 4:10Speaker 2: sitting in the stands that they just weren't getting there.
- 4:14Speaker 2: And we have seen those plays come to fruition over
- 4:17Speaker 2: the course of you know, the end run last year
- 4:20Speaker 2: they made all those plays. So when they got to
- 4:22Speaker 2: the red zone yesterday, it's like, all right, you know,
- 4:24Speaker 2: they've got the ball the seventeen yard line after the
- 4:26Speaker 2: muff punt. Well, Trffor's gonna score here because they did
- 4:28Speaker 2: last week against the Colts where they scored three touchdowns
- 4:31Speaker 2: in three red zone trips.
- 4:32Speaker 3: And they did last year.
- 4:33Speaker 2: As they made that run, we all had the sense
- 4:36Speaker 2: that this offense had taken a step that they were
- 4:38Speaker 2: ready now to be that you know that unit, that
- 4:43Speaker 2: killer instinct is a word. Right, we got a chance.
- 4:45Speaker 2: It's Kansas City. We can't score field goal, and they
- 4:48Speaker 2: just couldn't get it done. Now, you lose by inches,
- 4:51Speaker 2: you win by inches in this league, and that's where
- 4:53Speaker 2: they've got to go back. And John mentioned detail off
- 4:55Speaker 2: the top of the show. That's where the detail in
- 4:57Speaker 2: the practice field comes in. So that next week when
- 4:59Speaker 2: you you're in that situation, you dropped that foot right,
- 5:02Speaker 2: you cut your route off half a yard shorter so
- 5:05Speaker 2: that you're in a position quarterback.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Can get the ball there. Right, It's a game of moments.
- 5:10Speaker 4: It talked about it all last week, how Kansas City
- 5:12Speaker 4: gets better as the game goes on. The Chiefs had
- 5:16Speaker 4: two point blank opportunities touchdown touchdown around the half.
- 5:20Speaker 3: YEP.
- 5:20Speaker 4: The Jaguars in their moments, kick field goals, Mahomes the MVP,
- 5:25Speaker 4: Trevor the young quarterback.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Seemed like that was a difference That leads into our
- 5:29Speaker 1: big thing too, which is takeaways. The defense played about
- 5:32Speaker 1: as good as they can play. They held the Chiefs
- 5:34Speaker 1: to seventeen points, They created turnovers, forcing bubbles, interceptions, and
- 5:39Speaker 1: that has to be the highlight from yesterday.
- 5:42Speaker 6: Defense played well. I mean, defense kept us in this
- 5:44Speaker 6: football game, created the takeaway as you mentioned, and as
- 5:47Speaker 6: I said, it's just execution. We've got to do better.
- 5:51Speaker 1: As much as you can ask for from them. When
- 5:53Speaker 1: we went in and talking about the offense, We've been
- 5:54Speaker 1: talking about them for months, but the defense has been
- 5:57Speaker 1: coming out big in these first two games.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Look, if you hold Patrick Holmes to seventeen points, twelve
- 6:01Speaker 2: points below their season average last year, and you force
- 6:05Speaker 2: three first half turnovers, won the game or there would
- 6:08Speaker 2: have been no doubt in anyone's mind. John, The narrative
- 6:11Speaker 2: around this defense was hold on, they're going to play
- 6:14Speaker 2: with some leads this year and we'll see them be
- 6:16Speaker 2: able to rush the pass or create some turnovers. Well,
- 6:20Speaker 2: in the first two games, they've rushed the pass or
- 6:21Speaker 2: created turnovers without a lead.
- 6:23Speaker 3: So how good is this defense? Betty good? I think
- 6:27Speaker 3: it is too. I mean, I don't know that it's great.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Well it's not the Jets, it's not the Cowboys.
- 6:32Speaker 4: But if we don't have that, like just go lock
- 6:36Speaker 4: down Chris Jones, they don't have that guy. But I
- 6:39Speaker 4: thought they the way you have to rush Mahomes. I
- 6:43Speaker 4: thought they did okay with that. He never felt completely comfortable.
- 6:47Speaker 4: He made play. As he's a rushmore quarterback, you know
- 6:50Speaker 4: he's gonna make plays. I thought the turning point whatever
- 6:54Speaker 4: three takeaways second quarter, I think they got three points
- 6:56Speaker 4: off of Yeah, and then you get the takeaway and
- 7:00Speaker 4: the huge momentum shift leading three to nothing, Kelsey and
- 7:04Speaker 4: the fun will give you the ball in the thirty seven,
- 7:06Speaker 4: you give it right back. Doug didn't really talk about
- 7:10Speaker 4: that specifically, but you talk about a moment where you
- 7:13Speaker 4: had a chance to and then.
- 7:14Speaker 3: It look in this league, could you do that? Yeah?
- 7:19Speaker 2: In this league, if you get to the red zone
- 7:20Speaker 2: and you come away with no points, you're losing, right,
- 7:22Speaker 2: And they did that twice yesterday.
- 7:23Speaker 1: It was frustrating. For sure. Our final big thing is
- 7:26Speaker 1: going to be don't panic. We touched about it touched
- 7:28Speaker 1: on it off the top of the show. There's nothing
- 7:30Speaker 1: embarrassing about losing to the Chiefs. Certainly the way they
- 7:33Speaker 1: lost not great, but this is still a very good
- 7:34Speaker 1: football team. Doug Peterson thinks, so as well.
- 7:38Speaker 4: There's guys who are kicked off in there.
- 7:40Speaker 6: You know they're mad and they know it, and but
- 7:45Speaker 6: it's so early in this season that one game is
- 7:47Speaker 6: not going to define who we are and it's not
- 7:50Speaker 6: going to define our season, right.
- 7:51Speaker 1: I think it's a little extra frustrating because you're like,
- 7:53Speaker 1: it was right there, like the Chiefs weren't playing great,
- 7:56Speaker 1: this is the best roster they've had here in a minute,
- 7:58Speaker 1: and then it just couldn't get it together. Well.
- 8:00Speaker 2: So I asked that question of him in the news
- 8:02Speaker 2: conferencely because that's where the good coaches and you are
- 8:06Speaker 2: often fond of talking about how this league is always
- 8:08Speaker 2: about coaching. This is where this is where the good
- 8:12Speaker 2: coaches or the great coaches take the moment and they
- 8:16Speaker 2: use it to redefine the week. And so I wanted
- 8:19Speaker 2: to hear from Doug, how are you gonna do this?
- 8:22Speaker 2: And the first thought was the best thought was I'm
- 8:24Speaker 2: gonna take their anger and I'm going to refine it
- 8:27Speaker 2: into focus, and I thought that his answer was outstanding.
- 8:31Speaker 2: I have very little worry that they'll be ready to
- 8:34Speaker 2: play this week based on Doug's answer in that postgame.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Yeah, it's you know, I hate to use the cliches
- 8:40Speaker 4: because the fans hear from coaches they don't want from us.
- 8:43Speaker 3: It is.
- 8:44Speaker 4: It is a long season. There are always going to
- 8:46Speaker 4: be ups and downs. If there was a positive. Some
- 8:51Speaker 4: fans felt differently. But last year when they played the Chiefs,
- 8:58Speaker 4: I never.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Really felt like they run even footing. You felt like if.
- 9:03Speaker 4: The Chiefs is made, you know that it was gonna
- 9:05Speaker 4: take a herculean effort from the Jaguars to win. Yesterday,
- 9:09Speaker 4: I thought the Jaguars were just as good and they
- 9:11Speaker 4: just gave it away, which you know, does that matter
- 9:14Speaker 4: on the scoreboard?
- 9:15Speaker 3: No, does it matter of where if.
- 9:19Speaker 4: I don't think there's far away from being that team
- 9:23Speaker 4: as I felt like they were at the end of
- 9:24Speaker 4: the last season. It's just disappointing to them that they
- 9:27Speaker 4: didn't show it.
- 9:28Speaker 2: People are gonna they're gonna turn their eyebrows up at this,
- 9:31Speaker 2: but I don't think their roster is that much better.
- 9:33Speaker 2: I mean, they have three players that you have to
- 9:36Speaker 2: account for, Chris Jones, Travis Kelsey, and Patrick Mahomes. But
- 9:39Speaker 2: other than that, it's a bunch of good football players
- 9:42Speaker 2: who take advantage of the opportunities that those three great
- 9:45Speaker 2: football players give them. What the Jaguars need to be
- 9:48Speaker 2: able to do is take advantage of more opportunities that
- 9:51Speaker 2: their team gets, and they didn't yesterday. But John's right,
- 9:55Speaker 2: the Jaguars were closer to the Chiefs than they have
- 9:57Speaker 2: been at any point since Patrick Mahomes has been there.
- 10:00Speaker 1: And certainly it might be more frustrating immediately, but if
- 10:03Speaker 1: you know that, if you execute your game plan, you
- 10:05Speaker 1: can compete, it's not like you're just getting completely out
- 10:07Speaker 1: worked out there. They have the talent and they have
- 10:08Speaker 1: the ability.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Well, everyone's mad this morning cause they saw the opportunities
- 10:11Speaker 2: that were there. Absolutely not because they couldn't line up
- 10:14Speaker 2: and play.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I know, alright, coming up, we're gonna go over some
- 10:16Speaker 1: of the game changing moments if you will save them
- 10:19Speaker 1: highlights a little bit, but also some of the low
- 10:21Speaker 1: lights on what they need to work on coming up
- 10:23Speaker 1: after the bank move, the freight move the freight Magellan
- 10:29Speaker 1: Transport voted the coolest office space in Jacksonville. You can
- 10:32Speaker 1: apply online at www dot Magellanlogistics dot com.
- 10:38Speaker 5: We gotta be better. We gotta help them. I mean,
- 10:40Speaker 5: they were on the field a lot today. We had
- 10:41Speaker 5: a lot of bad possessions where we put 'em, they'd
- 10:43Speaker 5: get a turnover, we' put 'em right back on the field,
- 10:45Speaker 5: and really just their back was against the wall the
- 10:47Speaker 5: whole day. And you know, they played great, you know,
- 10:50Speaker 5: and uh, we gotta play better.
- 10:51Speaker 3: We gotta help 'em. You know, those just just bad
- 10:53Speaker 3: by us.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Welcome back to Jagsam. That's about as frustrated as a
- 10:58Speaker 1: Trevor as Trevor gets postgame yesterday, which is good because
- 11:01Speaker 1: he's even keeled. But you can tell there was just
- 11:04Speaker 1: just halfway through that game they were so mad at themselves.
- 11:07Speaker 2: He knows, they missed an opportunity to come out and
- 11:09Speaker 2: show who they were. They have a lot of confidence
- 11:11Speaker 2: in themselves on the offensive side of the ball. And yesterday,
- 11:14Speaker 2: and I'll go into this more in my hot take,
- 11:16Speaker 2: yesterday it was, you know, and they were just miss
- 11:19Speaker 2: firing like an engine with the spark plugs that need
- 11:21Speaker 2: to be replaced.
- 11:22Speaker 3: It just didn't happen.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Let's go over some of the highlights from yesterday, or
- 11:26Speaker 1: at least defining moments for us. Off the gate, we thought,
- 11:31Speaker 1: you know, they're creating turnovers, forcing turnovers. That muffed punt
- 11:34Speaker 1: was huge for them to come up. We've been, you know,
- 11:36Speaker 1: giving special teams credit. It was agnew in the first game.
- 11:39Speaker 1: But here they're able to, you know, capitalize on the
- 11:41Speaker 1: home field advantage. I think he lost it in the
- 11:43Speaker 1: sun there, and then it was at the seventeen yard line.
- 11:46Speaker 1: They get the ball at and just not be able
- 11:47Speaker 1: to convert after that was so frustrated.
- 11:49Speaker 2: I mean, you talk about special teams, look at Tim Jones,
- 11:51Speaker 2: who we had talked about being an exceptional special teams
- 11:54Speaker 2: player right place, right time. John, At that moment, I thought,
- 11:57Speaker 2: the ball bounces is your way against Kansas City very
- 12:00Speaker 2: few times.
- 12:01Speaker 3: You better take advantage of it.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Yeah, well, actually this team has had the ball bounce
- 12:06Speaker 4: its way against Kansas City a lot. Last year they
- 12:08Speaker 4: had I think three first half turnovers. Didn't take advantage
- 12:11Speaker 4: of them. When they didn't touch down this, you felt
- 12:18Speaker 4: like opportunity, you know, it's the same thing I almost
- 12:21Speaker 4: tired of saying it already. Opportunity missed here for big momentum.
- 12:25Speaker 4: You know, you had a chance to stick a knife
- 12:27Speaker 4: in them. You sort of just hit him.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Over the head with a little pat took some of
- 12:29Speaker 1: the window of the stadium too, because yeah, everybody's jacked
- 12:32Speaker 1: up at that point, and it was just kind of
- 12:34Speaker 1: like so after that, we saw some force turnovers. We
- 12:38Speaker 1: talked a lot about the defense. Those were certainly highlights yesterday,
- 12:41Speaker 1: and one of them was the force fumble and just
- 12:44Speaker 1: what they were able to do and in terms of
- 12:47Speaker 1: giving extra chances to the offense, as we talked about,
- 12:49Speaker 1: that's what we wanted to see from the defense, and
- 12:51Speaker 1: we did see that, but then it wasn't converted into points.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Right. You settle for the field goal, and you just
- 12:56Speaker 3: you feel like, all right, here we go.
- 12:58Speaker 2: What a play by Darius Williams here to get there
- 13:01Speaker 2: and knock the ball out and Watson's going to the
- 13:04Speaker 2: ground yep, and he reaches in and pulls that.
- 13:06Speaker 3: That's not accidental, that's not lucky, that was a move.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Watch him just there you go, right, I mean, that's
- 13:12Speaker 2: what a great play. And John, I mean, even though
- 13:14Speaker 2: you're only up three nothing at this point, you're like.
- 13:16Speaker 3: All right, here we go. Oh you're at thirty seven.
- 13:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean this is it's not put them away time,
- 13:22Speaker 4: because you don't put the Chiefs away. But what it
- 13:25Speaker 4: was is it was a chance to all of a
- 13:27Speaker 4: sudden tilt the game in a way that the Chiefs
- 13:30Speaker 4: had the game.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Tilted twice last year.
- 13:32Speaker 4: Where you're playing uphill the whole game. Now you get
- 13:35Speaker 4: a little a bit of a chance to rush you
- 13:37Speaker 4: maybe get that one more turnover that does put them away.
- 13:41Speaker 4: When you miss that and you're playing on even footing,
- 13:44Speaker 4: play calls are different. Energy is different. Two major missed opportunities.
- 13:50Speaker 4: You get two turnover or three turns in the second quarter,
- 13:53Speaker 4: two are in there. It gives you the ball in
- 13:57Speaker 4: their territory. The Cisco felt more like a punt, not
- 14:00Speaker 4: knocking it, but it didn't give you a huge momentum.
- 14:03Speaker 4: The two inside the fifty a stat for you guys,
- 14:05Speaker 4: they're not use a big stat guy. Five trips inside
- 14:08Speaker 4: the fifty and the first half six points. Last year,
- 14:11Speaker 4: five trips inside the fifteen the first half in KC
- 14:14Speaker 4: seven points.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Miss opportunities.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I think one of the things here this is Cisco's
- 14:17Speaker 1: interception on that play, not only that. Josh Allen is
- 14:20Speaker 1: all up in Mahomes girl on that throw and we
- 14:22Speaker 1: saw him flying all over the field. I know he
- 14:24Speaker 1: was out for a little bit with a shoulder in
- 14:25Speaker 1: the second half there, but.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Well, this play was so big, Kuy, because you just
- 14:30Speaker 2: you were waiting for Patrick Mahomes to make a play
- 14:32Speaker 2: down the field, right, and he was going after Watson.
- 14:34Speaker 2: I mean, that was the only guy he had a
- 14:36Speaker 2: lot of confidence in and you felt like, all right,
- 14:38Speaker 2: we got you again. Maybe we're up to this. Maybe
- 14:41Speaker 2: the defense today is up to the challenge.
- 14:43Speaker 3: And they were.
- 14:44Speaker 2: You weren't gonna stop them every time, right the last
- 14:47Speaker 2: of the first, in the in the first of the second,
- 14:50Speaker 2: you didn't get them. But here it just felt like,
- 14:53Speaker 2: hey man, we got answers. Even though we haven't got
- 14:55Speaker 2: points yet, we've got answers. We're gonna keep coming.
- 14:57Speaker 1: You have to imagine the defense was talking this week
- 14:59Speaker 1: about you're gonna win the game if you can take
- 15:01Speaker 1: the ball out of Patrick Mahomes's hands, and that's what
- 15:03Speaker 1: they did. They're creating these turnovers, taking possessions away, and
- 15:05Speaker 1: then all of a sudden it's three and out. A
- 15:07Speaker 1: just quick outs for the offense and they're getting the
- 15:09Speaker 1: ball right back. So they eventually got on the board,
- 15:12Speaker 1: a lot of field goals, missed opportunities, and saw scoreless
- 15:15Speaker 1: first quarter. But then Mahomes to Skymore was the first
- 15:18Speaker 1: touchdown we saw in the game, and that kind of
- 15:21Speaker 1: you know, they were in and after that as well,
- 15:23Speaker 1: and I want to say it completely took them out
- 15:25Speaker 1: of it. But anytime the Chiefs get going, you're always
- 15:27Speaker 1: kind of like, oh, is that going to be the
- 15:29Speaker 1: first of many things that come?
- 15:31Speaker 3: It is, But.
- 15:33Speaker 4: The Jaguars, if they're gonna win these kind of games, right,
- 15:37Speaker 4: you got to score twenty seven.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Oh, I get it.
- 15:39Speaker 3: And so I thought they did a great job.
- 15:42Speaker 4: After the first touchdown, they went down and got three,
- 15:47Speaker 4: which kept them in the game even when the Chiefs
- 15:51Speaker 4: had their little spurt. So again they hadn't played perfectly,
- 15:54Speaker 4: but they had that opportunity only down. It was never
- 15:57Speaker 4: a two score games, no, you just they never took. Yeah,
- 16:02Speaker 4: I'm gonna say opportunities again, and you couldn't come try
- 16:04Speaker 4: not to say it the rest of the show what
- 16:07Speaker 4: it is today.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Certainly, Brian, I know you were talking about just kind
- 16:11Speaker 1: of the indemic offense as a whole, but Kansas City
- 16:13Speaker 1: is saying the same thing. Right, Like both of these teams,
- 16:16Speaker 1: if this was a thirty one to twenty eight game,
- 16:17Speaker 1: yes we'd be frustrated, but that's understandable. But that will
- 16:21Speaker 1: be what we expected. For them to come out and
- 16:22Speaker 1: lay both of them kind of lay an egg on
- 16:24Speaker 1: offense is weird?
- 16:25Speaker 3: Okay?
- 16:26Speaker 2: A couple things stood out, and so I went and
- 16:27Speaker 2: found some of my buddies in the Kansas City media
- 16:29Speaker 2: and they're talking about two things. One how well their
- 16:32Speaker 2: defense played. And we know Steve Spednel is an excellent
- 16:35Speaker 2: coach and they were well schooled. They knew what to expect,
- 16:39Speaker 2: so credit to them and workhorse talking about the job
- 16:41Speaker 2: that Mike called well and his staff did with the
- 16:43Speaker 2: Jags defense. We're talking about an offense. They couldn't score
- 16:47Speaker 2: nine points? What's the matter? And in Kansas City they're
- 16:50Speaker 2: going seventeen points. We only got seventeen points. Are the
- 16:53Speaker 2: Jaguars that good or is it us?
- 16:55Speaker 1: So?
- 16:56Speaker 2: In week two as you're trying to figure things out,
- 16:59Speaker 2: and they are too right. He's clearly not Travis Kelcey
- 17:01Speaker 2: right now, and Juwan Taylor is not a twenty million
- 17:04Speaker 2: dollar tackle. They've got questions, they're one in one. The
- 17:08Speaker 2: Jaguars are one in one. Doug Peterson said yesterday, don't panic.
- 17:13Speaker 2: We're still in a good spot. We're one and one.
- 17:15Speaker 2: We lost to the Super Bowl champs. We know we
- 17:17Speaker 2: can play better. The people in Kansas City are saying
- 17:19Speaker 2: we're one and one. We turned it over three times.
- 17:21Speaker 2: He only scored seventeen points. It doesn't look what Kelsey's himself.
- 17:24Speaker 2: But we got Patrick Mahomes.
- 17:26Speaker 3: We can get better.
- 17:26Speaker 4: I thought Doug's presser showed both sides, meaning really frustrated
- 17:33Speaker 4: with the short term. I don't want to say furious,
- 17:36Speaker 4: but he was a little more clipped in his answers
- 17:39Speaker 4: than usual. And then when the media is sort of
- 17:43Speaker 4: fed off of that and was asking some sky is
- 17:45Speaker 4: falling questions, he sort of shook out.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Of it and was like, yeah, Okay, I'm frustrated, but
- 17:50Speaker 3: it's week two. Yeah.
- 17:51Speaker 4: So again, if there's been one thing in eighteen months
- 17:56Speaker 4: being around Doug that you notice, it's the stunningly good
- 18:01Speaker 4: perception and perspective that he has on.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Where they're at and what this team needs.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Okay, hold that thought, because my hot take is about
- 18:11Speaker 2: Doug at a press conference and the perception so Digital.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Stay with that, because I think we love a team.
- 18:17Speaker 1: It is a tease, all right, Everybody say with us.
- 18:19Speaker 1: We've got hot takes coming up after the break, and

- 19:01Speaker 1: we're back in it now. We're gonna do hot takes today. So, Brian,
- 19:03Speaker 1: you had a little look ahead at what your hot
- 19:05Speaker 1: take was, But what's your hot take?
- 19:06Speaker 3: Fasi?
- 19:07Speaker 2: Well, so I said wound too tight because I couldn't
- 19:09Speaker 2: I couldn't put another phrase to it.
- 19:13Speaker 3: But here's what I know.
- 19:14Speaker 2: You mentioned Doug and being around him for eighteen months
- 19:16Speaker 2: and how you kind of know what to expect from
- 19:18Speaker 2: him when he comes into a news conference. He's an affable,
- 19:21Speaker 2: energetic guy. Last Wednesday he was not. Last Wednesday he
- 19:24Speaker 2: walked in, he was noticeably lower energy, and noticeably to
- 19:30Speaker 2: me at least, he just kind of undersold it, soft spoken.
- 19:34Speaker 2: I thought, that's it's odd, something's often. It's stuck with
- 19:37Speaker 2: me all week, and then yesterday I'm watching Trevor in
- 19:40Speaker 2: terms missing throws that he normally makes, and the television
- 19:43Speaker 2: camera was showing a tight shot on him and he
- 19:45Speaker 2: had this sort of weird look on his face, and
- 19:47Speaker 2: it just there was something off about this team.
- 19:49Speaker 3: I don't know whether they were wound too tight.
- 19:51Speaker 2: I don't know whether the pressure or the stage or
- 19:55Speaker 2: their I don't know what it was, but this team
- 19:57Speaker 2: was entirely off on the offensive side of the ball.
- 20:01Speaker 2: And John we talked last week about the coach and
- 20:03Speaker 2: the quarterback, right, I mean, Paul Brown and Autograham all
- 20:05Speaker 2: the way through Brady and Belichick, and they just both
- 20:09Speaker 2: felt off to me. And I don't know why, and
- 20:12Speaker 2: it's very nebulous. I can't pin it down and so
- 20:16Speaker 2: people can disagree with it, but go back and watch
- 20:18Speaker 2: his news conference from last Wednesday and you'll see that
- 20:20Speaker 2: he wasn't himself and this team has to get back
- 20:24Speaker 2: to being themselves this week. Doug has to come into
- 20:27Speaker 2: his press conference and be that energetic guy, right because
- 20:30Speaker 2: the team feeds off of that stuff. And I'm not
- 20:32Speaker 2: blaming Doug, but you get what I mean. Something just
- 20:35Speaker 2: wasn't right. They got to get back to themselves.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Doug talked about that too this week, which was interesting
- 20:39Speaker 1: because he talked about one of the things he learned
- 20:40Speaker 1: from Andy Reid is that he needs to be himself.
- 20:42Speaker 1: He needs to go out and coach and be himself,
- 20:44Speaker 1: not try to be anybody else. So interesting that you
- 20:46Speaker 1: point that out, that Doug really wasn't acting like what
- 20:48Speaker 1: we know to be his normal.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Self, not in the limited time we've been with him.
- 20:51Speaker 1: So interesting, John, what's your take this week?
- 20:55Speaker 4: It again plays off some and Doug said last week
- 20:58Speaker 4: and it's many about moments, and there was there was
- 21:02Speaker 4: a moment last week where he talked about how good
- 21:04Speaker 4: the chiefs are in the big situations and it was
- 21:07Speaker 4: going to come down to not who won the fourth quarter,
- 21:12Speaker 4: but big fourth quarter moments. So you know, this was
- 21:16Speaker 4: about the team that blinked, and the Jaguars blink. They
- 21:19Speaker 4: had their moments in the in the second half, even
- 21:23Speaker 4: down sick, I mean, even down eight, you drive, you're
- 21:27Speaker 4: on your first and goal in the one. You know,
- 21:31Speaker 4: I honestly on that play, the first and goal from
- 21:35Speaker 4: the one with Etn. I don't know if Trevor made
- 21:37Speaker 4: that decision himself. It seemed maybe from looking up that
- 21:42Speaker 4: he pulled the ball out of Etn's gut.
- 21:44Speaker 3: I don't know that, but it's what struck me.
- 21:47Speaker 4: I don't know if there's a play call or what,
- 21:50Speaker 4: but those moments where it just didn't happen, huge, huge,
- 21:54Speaker 4: big play moments. Even at the end, you're eight points,
- 21:58Speaker 4: you have a chance to get back in and you're
- 22:01Speaker 4: in the red zone. Doesn't quite when to Ridley eight times,
- 22:06Speaker 4: two targets, just those moments, and I guess it's not surprising, Brian.
- 22:16Speaker 4: You know the Chiefs, you don't become the five time
- 22:20Speaker 4: AFC Championship game participate at home unless you're great at
- 22:24Speaker 4: those moments. And the Jaguars are still trying to be
- 22:27Speaker 4: that team that's better than the Chiefs in those moments.
- 22:29Speaker 3: They kind of this kind of feeds back to where
- 22:31Speaker 3: I was.
- 22:31Speaker 2: I think that this team, to some degree was what
- 22:36Speaker 2: they were trying to win those moments, and they knew
- 22:39Speaker 2: what was at stake, right, the chance to get ahead
- 22:41Speaker 2: of the Chiefs for home field advantage in the playoffs
- 22:44Speaker 2: in Week two, and they just didn't make the.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Right decisions in the right moments. It's just you're right, John,
- 22:50Speaker 3: that's this is a team that's got to dial it in.
- 22:52Speaker 3: But here's what I would say. It's Monday morning.
- 22:56Speaker 4: So every after a loss, so everything seems like you're
- 23:00Speaker 4: just stood it. If your task right now as a
- 23:05Speaker 4: franchise is that the last thing you've got to get
- 23:09Speaker 4: past is beating the best team in football for five
- 23:12Speaker 4: years and a team that's great at these moments, right,
- 23:14Speaker 4: if that's your last hurdle, you're in good shape. I mean,
- 23:18Speaker 4: there's a lot of teams that want to get there, right,
- 23:21Speaker 4: So it's not necessarily that everything's terrible.
- 23:24Speaker 3: It's just that these are the moments that we're talking
- 23:26Speaker 3: about this morning.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Sure, hey, real quick, the moment now in front of
- 23:28Speaker 2: them is a chance to go to and oh in
- 23:30Speaker 2: the AFC South and last year they were not up
- 23:33Speaker 2: to the moment of the Texans. The Texans were not
- 23:35Speaker 2: a good team last year and they weren't up to
- 23:37Speaker 2: that moment, a feeling they will be this week two
- 23:39Speaker 2: and oh in the division headed to London, really an
- 23:42Speaker 2: important moment, probably more important than last Sunday, because the
- 23:45Speaker 2: division is the way to the playoffs.
- 23:48Speaker 1: And that's where my hot take comes in because it's
- 23:49Speaker 1: not a gimme on Sunday, but it is very, very
- 23:52Speaker 1: important and I think a lot of turning the page
- 23:54Speaker 1: will be doug using that frustration, as we mentioned, getting
- 23:57Speaker 1: them to focus on this game because it can become
- 23:59Speaker 1: a trap game. How many teams have we seen get
- 24:01Speaker 1: up really big for one quote big game, and then
- 24:04Speaker 1: the next week against a so called lesser opponent they
- 24:06Speaker 1: don't come through. So this will be a big game
- 24:08Speaker 1: for them in terms of, yes, solidifying themselves in the
- 24:10Speaker 1: AFC South, but also getting some confidence back and getting
- 24:13Speaker 1: this team back to where we want to be in
- 24:15Speaker 1: the season. One loss is not a big deal. One
- 24:16Speaker 1: loss so the Chiefs is not a big deal, but
- 24:18Speaker 1: playing well consistently is going to be what this team
- 24:21Speaker 1: needs to do, specifically on offense, yes, we're happy the
- 24:23Speaker 1: defense is playing well, but if you are going to
- 24:24Speaker 1: be successful make a playoff run, it's going to be
- 24:27Speaker 1: the offense that gets them there. So they really need
- 24:28Speaker 1: to get back on track against Houston. I know they've
- 24:30Speaker 1: had a little bit of a bugaboo against them at
- 24:32Speaker 1: certain points, right I guess.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Hey, Look, since the Texans came in, they have beaten
- 24:36Speaker 2: the Jaguars more than the Jaguars have beaten them. There
- 24:38Speaker 2: have been some great players Andre Johnson, JJ Watt through
- 24:43Speaker 2: the years, but the Jaguars have never had a good.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Answer for the Texans.
- 24:48Speaker 2: And they've got a better roster and they're ready to
- 24:51Speaker 2: now flip the script and start taking over the Texans.
- 24:55Speaker 3: It starts on Sunday.
- 24:56Speaker 4: Well, the bugaboo is it was particularly bad for about
- 24:59Speaker 4: four FI season before last season, but that hadn't nothing
- 25:02Speaker 4: new with the Texans.
- 25:03Speaker 3: The Jaguars weren't beating anybody. Well that's true, but that
- 25:05Speaker 3: Jshaun Watson. They had players that made the Jaguars look bad.
- 25:09Speaker 1: All right, stay with us. We'll have a little bit
- 25:11Speaker 1: more about what we got coming up this week. Be
- 25:12Speaker 1: see you after the break. DAGs fans. If you want
- 25:20Speaker 1: customized Jaguars furniture for your home. You can check out
- 25:22Speaker 1: zipchare dot com to browse all customizable options. Zipchair is
- 25:26Speaker 1: furniture for fans.
- 25:30Speaker 5: Yeah, it's definitely really really frustrating when you leave that
- 25:34Speaker 5: much out there, especially being in the red zone. Like
- 25:36Speaker 5: I said, four times and no points, and you just
- 25:39Speaker 5: think back to all those plays. If you score one
- 25:40Speaker 5: of those possessions, games completely different. You know, if we
- 25:43Speaker 5: score on that one, we got the on the one
- 25:45Speaker 5: yard line, score on that possession, get the two point
- 25:47Speaker 5: of versions a tire game.
- 25:49Speaker 1: All right, we're moving on. Is this one of those days, John,
- 25:51Speaker 1: where you go, you watch the film today and then
- 25:54Speaker 1: on Tuesday moving forward, it's just we're onto the Texans
- 25:57Speaker 1: at that point.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Well, by its nature, every week in the NFL has
- 26:01Speaker 4: to be that. If it's not, you're in trouble because
- 26:03Speaker 4: then you're thinking about the wrong things. But Evan Ingram
- 26:07Speaker 4: said after the game, yeshit. Somebody said, was this one
- 26:10Speaker 4: where you burned the tape or you're.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Study it now? You study it and figure out what happened.
- 26:15Speaker 4: And I think what they'll see is Christian Kirk I
- 26:18Speaker 4: think was talking about it. Big plays, more intensity, more
- 26:22Speaker 4: focused than however you define that, I think they'll see
- 26:27Speaker 4: it's like it's not talent, it's just they didn't make
- 26:31Speaker 4: plays in these big spots and they're a team that's
- 26:35Speaker 4: supposed to do that.
- 26:36Speaker 2: This is a week where you double down on doing
- 26:39Speaker 2: what you do. You don't do anything different, You don't
- 26:41Speaker 2: try to change things up. You just try to do
- 26:44Speaker 2: what you do. Because Doug, if he's done anything in
- 26:47Speaker 2: the last eighteen months, is establish a framework for this
- 26:50Speaker 2: team to work well within. Even when they were losing
- 26:52Speaker 2: last year, all those games in a row where they
- 26:54Speaker 2: lost in the final two minutes, they kept doing the
- 26:57Speaker 2: same thing. Doug kept preaching do thus same thing, and
- 27:01Speaker 2: then eventually they broke out of that. So nothing crazy,
- 27:04Speaker 2: nothing different this week, just dial it in now. Doug
- 27:06Speaker 2: did have one interesting thing to say to Bucky Brooks
- 27:08Speaker 2: in the postgame radio. He said, maybe we're putting too
- 27:12Speaker 2: much in Maybe we have too much faith in ourselves
- 27:14Speaker 2: at this point, and our game plan is a little
- 27:16Speaker 2: too heavy and we need to streamline it and come back.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Maybe we need to take a look at that. So
- 27:22Speaker 2: there are some things that the coaching staff will do
- 27:24Speaker 2: in order to get the team in a position on
- 27:27Speaker 2: the practice field on Wednesday to be able to be
- 27:29Speaker 2: their best.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Certainly an opportunity to turn the page that game on
- 27:33Speaker 1: week three is presented by Renewal Y Anderson a better
- 27:36Speaker 1: way to a better window that's going to be here
- 27:38Speaker 1: in week three, So you can check out the team
- 27:40Speaker 1: against the Texans for that game. Tickets still available and
- 27:43Speaker 1: we'll preview that matchup later on in this week and
- 27:45Speaker 1: we'll be back with you on jag xam on Wednesday,
