- 0:30Speaker 2: Is this where we kiss?
- 0:34Speaker 3: Maybe we should like designate, like what is a one star?
- 0:38Speaker 4: What's a two star? What's a three star? Beyond a rubric? Yes?
- 0:42Speaker 2: I don't want to do that, Okay, just pure vibes.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan,
- 1:09Speaker 2: a longtime Hallmark movie fan.
- 1:11Speaker 4: I'm Wendy.
- 1:11Speaker 3: I'm your Hallmark no former Hallmark hater.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Ooh. Today we're discussing three bed, two bath, one Ghost,
- 1:20Speaker 2: which originally aired on the Hallmark Channel on Saturday, October seventh. Hey,
- 1:25Speaker 2: we'd love to be friends with you on Instagram. You
- 1:27Speaker 2: can find us at Girls Gone Hallmark and Megan and Wendy.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Come join Andrew Walker in our Facebook group. Hey, just joking.
- 1:37Speaker 3: You know, people pretend they're these Hallmark stars, right. I
- 1:43Speaker 3: don't know if they're bots or what the situation.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Fan accounts we have like seven Tyler Hines following us
- 1:48Speaker 2: on TikTok.
- 1:49Speaker 3: It's so funny anyway, Andrew Walker and I say that
- 1:53Speaker 3: in quote requested to join our Girls Gone Hallmark Hallmark
- 1:58Speaker 3: Facebook group.
- 2:00Speaker 4: We denied him.
- 2:01Speaker 3: But what was funny? What was funny is I shared
- 2:05Speaker 3: something about it on Instagram yesterday and Andrew Walker himself
- 2:09Speaker 3: laughed at it. He sent a little laugh emoji, so
- 2:11Speaker 3: I love it. I thought that was funny. Anyway, we're
- 2:14Speaker 3: Girls Gone Hallmark in Facebook groups.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Come give us a join.
- 2:17Speaker 2: You know, the fake account is such a problem that
- 2:20Speaker 2: Hallmark at some point earlier this year put out a
- 2:23Speaker 2: list of the official social media presences of all of
- 2:28Speaker 2: their stars. Smart because I think some of these accounts
- 2:31Speaker 2: are nefarious.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Yes, and I think their demographic could be easily targeted.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Yes, you know what I mean. Wink wink, nudge nudge.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Not doing that people, Yeah, don't anyway, don't take advantage.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Don't talk to.
- 2:46Speaker 3: People in the dms if you think it's Tyler Hines,
- 2:49Speaker 3: because it's not.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Let's talk some Hallmark news.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Okay, I have a little bit.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Okay, go ahead.
- 2:54Speaker 3: TMZ reported that the Queen of Christmas, Lacey Shabert, recently
- 2:58Speaker 3: reunited with Mean Girl co star Lindsay Lohan and Amanda
- 3:02Speaker 3: Seafred to film a pepsi ad.
- 3:06Speaker 2: That's fun.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Me thinks it might be a super Bowl ad.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Yes, do you think that's excellent thinking?
- 3:13Speaker 4: Hmm, yeah, kind of interesting.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I'd get excited about that.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Yeah, me too. I don't know why.
- 3:19Speaker 3: I mean, I like that movie, but I mean it
- 3:20Speaker 3: has such cult status.
- 3:22Speaker 2: We'll have these Super Bowl commercials. I'm like, I don't
- 3:24Speaker 2: understand the reference. Like sometimes there are real niche nods
- 3:29Speaker 2: to some like pop culture moment that I don't always understand.
- 3:33Speaker 2: So that one I would, I would get it. You know,
- 3:36Speaker 2: it's a balm to my gen X heart.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I hear you.
- 3:40Speaker 2: So we famously do not watch One Calls the Heart,
- 3:44Speaker 2: mostly because we're so many seasons in at this point
- 3:48Speaker 2: and our Hallmark plate is full. But we would be
- 3:51Speaker 2: remiss in not discussing the current drama on that show.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I cannot guarantee that the next two minutes will not
- 3:58Speaker 2: contain spoilers, so tap ahead if you you have not
- 4:00Speaker 2: watched this week's episode and you want to remain pure
- 4:04Speaker 2: of heart in that way. But a little backstory. Aaron
- 4:08Speaker 2: Craco plays Elizabeth on One Cause the Heart, and she's
- 4:11Speaker 2: in the bit of a love triangle between her fiancee
- 4:13Speaker 2: Lucas who's played by Chris McNally, and Mounty Nathan played
- 4:17Speaker 2: by Kevin McGarry. Now I don't know if she and
- 4:20Speaker 2: the MOUNTI ever had a relationship or if they just
- 4:23Speaker 2: have these unrequited feelings. I don't actually know any of that,
- 4:26Speaker 2: But there's a love triangle and she is engaged. And
- 4:29Speaker 2: on this week's episode, Lucas Chris McNally, he's been like
- 4:33Speaker 2: politically inclined and had an opportunity that she encouraged him
- 4:37Speaker 2: to take, but ultimately was going to take him out
- 4:40Speaker 2: of the town of Hope Valley and away from her,
- 4:42Speaker 2: because she's not interested in leaving Hope Valley, because that's
- 4:44Speaker 2: the whole center of the show, the heart of it,
- 4:47Speaker 2: so to speak, and in her encouraging him to leave
- 4:53Speaker 2: their relationship is effectively over. Now there is one more
- 4:57Speaker 2: episode in this season, so who knows what's going to
- 4:59Speaker 2: on happened, but the uproar was a wild I saw
- 5:02Speaker 2: a post on Twitter of people saying they would never
- 5:04Speaker 2: watch Hallmark again. I saw people saying they were deleting
- 5:07Speaker 2: their fan accounts, like they have these Twitter accounts that
- 5:10Speaker 2: are dedicated to when calls the Heart and one calls
- 5:13Speaker 2: the Heart only, and they were deactivating those accounts. I
- 5:19Speaker 2: am trying to think of a time when I've been
- 5:21Speaker 2: so invested in a show where I said I will
- 5:23Speaker 2: never watch this again because I feel victimized by the storyline.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I know my husband stopped watching Craye Anatomy when they
- 5:30Speaker 2: killed off Derek spoiler alert from twenty ten. I mean, look,
- 5:37Speaker 2: did Georgia Mallley double seven surprise death storyline is one
- 5:42Speaker 2: of the tragedies that will live with many elder millennials
- 5:46Speaker 2: and Gen xers our entire lives. But I thought it
- 5:50Speaker 2: was wild, So I did a little bit of an
- 5:51Speaker 2: Instagram stories poll last night. As of this morning, it
- 5:57Speaker 2: is sixty percent Team Nathan the mounty forty percent Team Lucas.
- 6:01Speaker 2: We did get a couple of messages saying I am
- 6:03Speaker 2: so tired of this love triangle. And then in response
- 6:09Speaker 2: to this poll, another listener and friend of the show,
- 6:11Speaker 2: who I will allow to remain anonymous at this moment, said,
- 6:14Speaker 2: you need to ask what people think of Elizabeth, which
- 6:19Speaker 2: I thought they're some hot intel right, like are people
- 6:22Speaker 2: over her? So it just a little slider. The average
- 6:26Speaker 2: answer is like they're giving her like a sixty percent.
- 6:31Speaker 2: They're not a single person has slid all the way
- 6:35Speaker 2: to the right. There have been several giving her like
- 6:39Speaker 2: a zero, like no slide at all.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Wow, So.
- 6:45Speaker 2: There people feel strongly about one calls the heart.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Answer me this what are they pissed off about? Are
- 6:51Speaker 3: they pissed off about the way the story's going or
- 6:53Speaker 3: not going? Are they unhappy about McNally.
- 6:59Speaker 4: Maybe leave the series?
- 7:01Speaker 2: Or I think all of the above. Maybe they believe
- 7:04Speaker 2: that it's not true to what the characters, what they
- 7:07Speaker 2: believe they would do or should do, is Chris McNally leaving.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Of course, there are clickbaity articles asking that question. There's
- 7:15Speaker 2: no definitive answer. It's not like we know he's being
- 7:18Speaker 2: written off the show or he wants to leave. So
- 7:20Speaker 2: I don't think anybody knows for sure. What's gonna happen
- 7:24Speaker 2: next week? Could we see a reversal? We don't know,
- 7:28Speaker 2: but the Hallmark world is a buzz well.
- 7:32Speaker 4: I'm sorry to miss it. Yes, we can't.
- 7:35Speaker 2: We'll never understand for ourselves. But if you have strong
- 7:38Speaker 2: feelings about when Calls the Heart and this particular love triangle,
- 7:41Speaker 2: please send us an email Megan and Wendy at gmail
- 7:44Speaker 2: dot com.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Yes, all right, I have two more little news and notes, Yes,
- 7:49Speaker 3: ma'am Brant dotty.
- 7:53Speaker 4: Mm hmm, did I say it right?
- 7:56Speaker 2: I think it's doughtree Ugh Brant.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Gattrey and now that he and his wife Kimberly are
- 8:01Speaker 3: expecting a second baby in early twenty twenty four, he
- 8:07Speaker 3: will be next scene in this year's hardest to pronounce
- 8:11Speaker 3: movie title Juad Noel Good Job on October twenty ninth.
- 8:17Speaker 4: That's wild to me.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I know these movies start October twentieth, but there's such
- 8:21Speaker 2: a disconnect to me talking about Christmas movies in October.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Still all these years in yeah, yeah, speaking of Christmas movies,
- 8:28Speaker 3: there's the posters for these movies are starting, yes to emerge.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Have you seen any that like Tickle Your Fancy?
- 8:37Speaker 2: Well, the movie that features Jonathan Bennett. I hate the poster.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I'm so excited for the movie. The cast
- 8:48Speaker 2: is killer. I hate the poster.
- 8:50Speaker 3: You don't like the pose down the stairs.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I know in my heart the movie will be far
- 8:55Speaker 2: better than the poster leads me to believe. But if
- 8:57Speaker 2: I were to judge a book by its cover and
- 9:00Speaker 2: I didn't know any of those actors, I would skip it.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Oh no, Now I'm not judging it by the cover.
- 9:07Speaker 2: I know every single one of those actors, and I'm
- 9:09Speaker 2: looking forward to it.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Wow, Wow, what about you.
- 9:14Speaker 3: I haven't seen anything that has stood out. I will
- 9:18Speaker 3: note that while I was watching this movie over the weekend,
- 9:21Speaker 3: because I watched it live, Hallmark going in hard on
- 9:27Speaker 3: a countdown to Christmas commercials?
- 9:29Speaker 4: Right now?
- 9:30Speaker 2: Yes, like that candy shop commercial?
- 9:34Speaker 4: What candy shop commercial?
- 9:36Speaker 2: The one with Nicki Deloache.
- 9:38Speaker 4: I don't think I've seen that one. You haven't seen
- 9:40Speaker 4: that promo.
- 9:41Speaker 2: It's like a it's a countdown to Christmas overall promo.
- 9:44Speaker 2: It's not for anyone's particular movie. And I fast forwarded
- 9:49Speaker 2: through it and we were watching it. My husband was,
- 9:51Speaker 2: what are you doing skipping our Christmas commercials? And I
- 9:53Speaker 2: was like, I've seen it eight hundred times at this point,
- 9:56Speaker 2: do you need to see I mean, Nicky Diloch could
- 9:58Speaker 2: not be cuter, But do you need to see again?
- 10:00Speaker 3: Oh?
- 10:01Speaker 4: Interesting? Maybe I don't know.
- 10:04Speaker 3: All I recall is Tyler Hines giving like a cheers
- 10:07Speaker 3: from his movie Chris.
- 10:10Speaker 2: I haven't seen that one.
- 10:11Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Just like my body has like this like reaction though,
- 10:15Speaker 3: and like the jingle bells are I'm not ready, it's
- 10:19Speaker 3: too early.
- 10:20Speaker 4: I'm freaking out a little bit.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I hear you, I hear you. If you look
- 10:26Speaker 2: at the Countdown to Christmas app, if you use that app,
- 10:30Speaker 2: A shocking number of movies have images at this point
- 10:34Speaker 2: in the game.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Yeah that's interesting. Yeah, it's like stock image.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Yes, and there are, to be fair a fair number
- 10:42Speaker 2: of these the where are you Christmas? Where Lindsay van
- 10:46Speaker 2: Seka is in black and white?
- 10:48Speaker 4: Have you seen it? I've seen it. I love it.
- 10:51Speaker 2: I feel like they're just doing a little bit more.
- 10:55Speaker 4: You know what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna put a
- 10:57Speaker 4: bunch of them on our Instagram stories and.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Have people vote and see what it feels slighter. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 11:02Speaker 3: coming soon, guys.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Coming soon.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Are you Ready to talk? Three Bet two Bath one Ghosts.
- 11:08Speaker 3: I am synopsis first, right, Yeah, okay. A nineteen twenties
- 11:13Speaker 3: ghost refuses to leave real estate agent Anna's new listed
- 11:17Speaker 3: home worse.
- 11:19Speaker 4: The spirit is.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Convinced she cannot pass over until she gets Anna back
- 11:22Speaker 3: together with her.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Ex starring Julie Gonzalo, who plays Anna Jenkins. She recently
- 11:29Speaker 2: appeared in a Girl's Gone Hallmark review of Pumpkin Pie Wars,
- 11:33Speaker 2: in which we were a House Divided. She also appeared,
- 11:37Speaker 2: among other things, in a movie called The Sweetest Heart
- 11:39Speaker 2: alongside her now partner and co star in this movie
- 11:42Speaker 2: one Chris McNally, Now, ray, I know there.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Now, I know they're a real life couple.
- 11:48Speaker 2: I don't think they are married, that is my understanding
- 11:52Speaker 2: as well. And if they are, it's not public knowledge.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Right, They're like super private and they had a baby
- 11:58Speaker 3: last year.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Yeah, that's exciting.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Chris McNally plays Elliott. Chris is known for his role
- 12:05Speaker 3: as Lucas on Wind Calls the Heart. We obviously talked
- 12:07Speaker 3: about him earlier. He has forty acting credits outside of Hallmark.
- 12:12Speaker 3: He was seen in Greece, Rise of the Pink Ladies
- 12:15Speaker 3: and Firefly Lane both.
- 12:17Speaker 4: From twenty twenty three. Hey you didn't know that, did you?
- 12:22Speaker 3: Well?
- 12:23Speaker 2: I didn't me neither. Madeline Arthur plays Ruby. She was
- 12:27Speaker 2: also in the To All the Boys I've Loved Before trilogy,
- 12:30Speaker 2: and this was one of those moments when someone appears
- 12:34Speaker 2: on screen and you cannot go on until you know
- 12:37Speaker 2: what you know their face from. And this is such
- 12:40Speaker 2: a testament to the hair and makeup and costuming department
- 12:44Speaker 2: because I never would have made the jump to her
- 12:47Speaker 2: as Chris from the To All the Boys I've Loved
- 12:49Speaker 2: Before series, But she's delightful on screen.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't know she was in that trilogy of movies.
- 12:58Speaker 3: I knew she played May and Devil in Ohio, which
- 13:01Speaker 3: is a Netflix show.
- 13:03Speaker 4: I think.
- 13:05Speaker 3: She was also in that series you liked called Blockbuster.
- 13:10Speaker 2: I did not enjoy that series.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Oh I'm sorry that series you watched called Blockbuster.
- 13:14Speaker 2: I wanted to like it because I love a soothing sitcom.
- 13:20Speaker 4: It was.
- 13:20Speaker 2: I watched the first couple of episodes. I couldn't finish it.
- 13:23Speaker 4: I'm so sorry.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I wanted to love it.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Did not.
- 13:30Speaker 3: The story is by Greg Rosson and Brian Sawyer. The
- 13:34Speaker 3: teleplay was written by both Greg ross and Brian.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Sawyer and Juwa Botkin, Yes, ma'am.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Greg Rossen has written a ton of Homemark movies, including
- 13:43Speaker 3: recently The Professional Bridesmaid, The Winter Palace, The Santa Steakout,
- 13:49Speaker 3: and so many more. In fact, his IMDb reads like
- 13:52Speaker 3: he's only written Hallmark movies.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Well, I did a little bit of a deep dive
- 13:57Speaker 2: because Greg ross and Brian Sawyer are co writers and
- 14:00Speaker 2: they share thirty eight writing credits. Brian Sawyer has exactly
- 14:05Speaker 2: one writing credit not shared by Greg, which is text
- 14:08Speaker 2: The Passive Aggressive Gunslinger, and these do endod a lot
- 14:11Speaker 2: of Hallmark.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Yeah, that's so interesting to me. Juwa Botchan one of
- 14:17Speaker 3: our favorite Homewark writers. Oh, she's one of my favorite
- 14:21Speaker 3: Homewark writers. I don't want to speak for you, but
- 14:24Speaker 3: her next Hallmark film is that Tyler Hines movie Never
- 14:26Speaker 3: Been Christed.
- 14:27Speaker 2: This was directed by Kevin Fair, who has forty two
- 14:29Speaker 2: directing credits tons of Hallmark including Girls Gone Hallmark, Fave
- 14:33Speaker 2: Taken a Shot at Love.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Oh Man, that's from the early days, early days for us. Yes,
- 14:43Speaker 3: this movie was filmed from June twelfth to June thirtieth
- 14:46Speaker 3: in twenty twenty three. The Rural Estate used is known
- 14:50Speaker 3: as copper Stone Manchan. It's located in Langley. Other television
- 14:55Speaker 3: shows like Riverdale, Bates Motel, Supernatural have all used this
- 14:59Speaker 3: property film. Yeah, it's a real house.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Indeed, as of the recording of this episode, this movie
- 15:06Speaker 2: has a seven point four out of ten rating on IMDb,
- 15:08Speaker 2: which is an incredibly high rating for a Hallmark movie.
- 15:12Speaker 2: If it can break into the sevens, that's a great
- 15:15Speaker 2: rating in the Hallmark world.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Do you think that's because this was unlike many other
- 15:22Speaker 3: Hallmark movies.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I think yes, the departure from form. I also think
- 15:30Speaker 2: that it is one of the I would call this
- 15:35Speaker 2: like new Hallmark, right, Like this is current day, moving
- 15:39Speaker 2: forward Hallmark, but without the hot button issues that some
- 15:45Speaker 2: of the trolls come out against.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Mmm.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Interesting, So it managed to be like forward thinking but cautiously.
- 15:51Speaker 2: So yes, yes, let's talk first impressions. My first impression
- 15:55Speaker 2: is this ghost breaks all the ghost rules.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Oh, gonna have to hear more about that. Okay, mine
- 16:02Speaker 3: was this is nothing like I imagined it would be.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Oh.
- 16:07Speaker 3: I was expecting like a ghosty hyjiinks.
- 16:12Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 16:14Speaker 2: There were some ghosty hygienks some, but it didn't rely
- 16:17Speaker 2: heavily on it. So anyway, we'll talk more about that.
- 16:21Speaker 3: All right, What did you like? Well, okay, we'll just
- 16:25Speaker 3: get right into it. I was truly expecting something else,
- 16:28Speaker 3: Like I said, Ghost and Hyjinks.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Don't watch the CBS series Ghosts lots of that. It's
- 16:37Speaker 2: a great adaptation, but you'd.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Hate it, you know, like Hyjinks is like my nemesis.
- 16:43Speaker 4: Is that right?
- 16:45Speaker 3: What's the Superman Kryptonite?
- 16:48Speaker 4: Yes?
- 16:49Speaker 3: Yeah, but what we got was a really lovely story
- 16:55Speaker 3: about friendship and two women helping each other.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:59Speaker 4: I thought it was great.
- 17:02Speaker 2: I agree this movie. I have to say the title
- 17:08Speaker 2: of this movie made me nervous, like I was just
- 17:12Speaker 2: worried that it was gonna be silly, maybe a throwaway
- 17:18Speaker 2: wedged in right before countdown to Christmas. It's, in my opinion,
- 17:22Speaker 2: one of the best movies of the year, maybe the best.
- 17:25Speaker 2: I need to look back over what we've seen. I
- 17:28Speaker 2: thought it was fantastic, particularly the two female leads. Look,
- 17:33Speaker 2: Julie Goanzale can act circles around all of her co
- 17:37Speaker 2: stars in every movie she's in. But Madeline Arthur. My
- 17:40Speaker 2: notes say, Madeline Arthur, Madeline Arthur. Madeline Arthur is such
- 17:44Speaker 2: a star in this movie as Ruby. I loved her
- 17:49Speaker 2: so much.
- 17:50Speaker 4: I agree.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Unfortunately, I think she might be one and done for
- 17:54Speaker 3: homework to think she was like two type cast. No,
- 17:58Speaker 3: I just think like she's on the I don't think
- 18:01Speaker 3: like Hallmark is going to be her playground.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I think that's a good point, I.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Mean, which is unfortunate because I remember there was another Gallon.
- 18:10Speaker 3: I can't remember her name, but she was in one
- 18:12Speaker 3: of the Wedding Bil movies and I thought she was
- 18:14Speaker 3: such a standout too, And haven't seen her in anything
- 18:16Speaker 3: else either. You know, I just feel like some of
- 18:19Speaker 3: these actors who may just be taking a job because
- 18:23Speaker 3: they need a job, but really outshine.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Right, Like Hallmark had those waivers so they were able
- 18:30Speaker 2: to take this job.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't know. She was great though,
- 18:36Speaker 3: she's great.
- 18:37Speaker 4: She's great. I really like the other cast too.
- 18:40Speaker 3: I thought Chris McNally was great. I don't think i've
- 18:45Speaker 3: ever I can't recall a movie i've watched him in.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Well, we did watch The Sweetest Heart over the weekend
- 18:51Speaker 2: because it came on right after this movie and we
- 18:55Speaker 2: were out of town. So what do you do when
- 18:57Speaker 2: you don't have all your apps. You watch live TV.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I did not watch the whole thing, but I enjoy
- 19:03Speaker 2: him on screen. And I do believe that's the movie
- 19:07Speaker 2: in which these two actors met.
- 19:09Speaker 4: Oh they were both in that movie.
- 19:11Speaker 2: They were in that movie together.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Yes, Oh that's nice.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I enjoyed him on screen. I can see why
- 19:16Speaker 2: people are drawn to him, and one calls the heart
- 19:19Speaker 2: you know who.
- 19:19Speaker 3: I didn't like in this movie though, and I'm just
- 19:21Speaker 3: gonna throw it here. I did not care for the
- 19:24Speaker 3: dad character or the other Metaline Terence day agent Terrence.
- 19:30Speaker 3: I just like, get out of here with your like
- 19:33Speaker 3: toxic masculinity.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Yeah, Terrence sucks, and he's supposed to suck. I'm not
- 19:39Speaker 2: sure the dad's supposed to suck and he does. Anyway,
- 19:43Speaker 2: he does suck.
- 19:44Speaker 4: It's the way he treats his daughter.
- 19:47Speaker 3: To me, like he's like, oh, like he's very dismissive
- 19:51Speaker 3: of her and then like gives her this big.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Job and then takes it away because she can't handle it.
- 19:57Speaker 2: But like, based on what he's wanting her to fail,
- 20:02Speaker 2: it feels like he basically has decided that she doesn't
- 20:06Speaker 2: have it to do this job. Yes, he wants her
- 20:09Speaker 2: to prove herself to him, but already in the back
- 20:12Speaker 2: of his mind is thinking, Eh, it's not really gonna work,
- 20:15Speaker 2: Like I'm gonna have to swoop in, and I've got
- 20:18Speaker 2: Terence on the.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Back burner if you can't hack it.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I just hated that and Terence. Like the whole
- 20:25Speaker 3: scene where oh, it was such a cute scene where
- 20:28Speaker 3: she's like dancing, she's dancing with Ruby. Obviously Terrence doesn't
- 20:31Speaker 3: see Ruby and he like films her with his phone.
- 20:37Speaker 3: He's like, oh, she's nuts or whatever. I was like,
- 20:39Speaker 3: because a girl can't dance alone in a room.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Like, yeah, she's having a good time.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Stop that, which just I hated the two other dudes.
- 20:48Speaker 2: And sure, and there are some moments like when she's
- 20:50Speaker 2: having a conversation with the ghost in a restaurant that
- 20:54Speaker 2: might strike you as odd, but dancing no.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 20:58Speaker 2: The writing was really fresh in the movie. And it's
- 21:01Speaker 2: no surprise to me that Joabatkin was a writer on
- 21:05Speaker 2: this movie. We've pointed out before she's known for writing
- 21:09Speaker 2: complicated relationships and this is absolutely true to form. I
- 21:14Speaker 2: loved lines like women can be whatever they want, like
- 21:17Speaker 2: president of the United States, not that yet.
- 21:19Speaker 4: I just loved it.
- 21:22Speaker 3: I have another favorite line, Okay, can I share it.
- 21:25Speaker 3: It's when Anna asks Ruby to go on a drive
- 21:28Speaker 3: to see the twenty twenties and Ruby says, as long
- 21:32Speaker 3: as it's wait, let me say, as long as it's
- 21:34Speaker 3: still a joyous era of pac dance Hall celebrating national
- 21:38Speaker 3: unity and drinking from a collective punch bowl.
- 21:41Speaker 4: And Anna makes this face like, Okay, I just thought
- 21:46Speaker 4: it was so funny. I agree.
- 21:49Speaker 3: I loved the nineteen twenties party scene at the beginning
- 21:53Speaker 3: of the movie.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Yeah, especially the dancing.
- 21:55Speaker 3: And the music. I just loved it. I was wondering
- 21:59Speaker 3: if there were like a choreographer that worked on this
- 22:02Speaker 3: who helped do those dance scenes, or if that was
- 22:06Speaker 3: something that they like just did on the fly or what.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Well, speaking of the dancing, my husband has a Christmas book.
- 22:12Speaker 2: It's like a picture a gas station with a boutique,
- 22:15Speaker 2: you know what I'm talking about, with like you would
- 22:18Speaker 2: find it there and it's got like fun facts about
- 22:20Speaker 2: Christmas through the years, and apparently in nineteen twenty three,
- 22:25Speaker 2: according to this gas station boutique Christmas book, that is
- 22:30Speaker 2: the origin of the Charleston in nineteen twenty three and
- 22:32Speaker 2: kind of launched like the flapper dancing craze. Oh and
- 22:36Speaker 2: so as it starts, he goes, oh, yeah, this in
- 22:39Speaker 2: the back of his mind, I wonder if this is
- 22:41Speaker 2: to celebrate thee hundredth anniversary of the Charleston and then
- 22:43Speaker 2: they kind of it's from this it's set in nineteen
- 22:47Speaker 2: twenty three. I just thought it was so funny that
- 22:50Speaker 2: there was that tie in there. Yeah, and on another note,
- 22:54Speaker 2: I mentioned this ghost breaks the rules. Look, ghosts classical
- 23:00Speaker 2: are stuck in the clothing in which they died in Okay, Yeah,
- 23:04Speaker 2: she can change her clothes. She can also manipulate physical objects,
- 23:07Speaker 2: which I find wild. I'm willing to let all of
- 23:10Speaker 2: that go because I think it makes the movie more
- 23:12Speaker 2: interesting to have her constantly like fresh faced and in
- 23:15Speaker 2: a new outfit and putting makeup on Julie Gonzala, which
- 23:20Speaker 2: doesn't make any sense because she's a ghost who can
- 23:22Speaker 2: touch things but not people. Anyway, I love that scene,
- 23:26Speaker 2: by the way, I did too, and I loved her
- 23:30Speaker 2: many many outfits, and I think it adds to the
- 23:32Speaker 2: movie to just let nebulous ghost rules go.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Yeah, because who made those rules, right? I don't know
- 23:44Speaker 3: who says a ghost can't move something correct. I love
- 23:49Speaker 3: that scene where she's putting the makeup on her. There
- 23:50Speaker 3: was something so tender about it. I just I just
- 23:54Speaker 3: thought it was so sweet. One more scene I really
- 23:57Speaker 3: liked was the slow dance between Anna and Elliot, and
- 24:00Speaker 3: I really felt the chemistry between them.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Obviously they're a real life.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Couple, but I was quite moved by Elliott's like reluctance
- 24:07Speaker 3: to like go there again with Anna?
- 24:11Speaker 4: Ah so good?
- 24:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Do you think it works in their favor that they're
- 24:15Speaker 2: playing a couple that has history as opposed to a
- 24:19Speaker 2: couple meeting and falling in love.
- 24:23Speaker 3: That's an interesting question because can we moved on to
- 24:27Speaker 3: wish to Yeah, I kind of wish that they weren't
- 24:30Speaker 3: ex fiancees.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Oh you wanted them to be like new love?
- 24:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:36Speaker 3: I can't pinpoint why exactly other than like, I don't
- 24:40Speaker 3: believe this because ex fiances feels very messy, you know
- 24:46Speaker 3: what I mean? And they did have some baggage, but
- 24:50Speaker 3: it was a little unclear of like what exactly happened,
- 24:54Speaker 3: and so I think maybe it would have been better if,
- 25:00Speaker 3: like they had just met, like maybe she hired him
- 25:02Speaker 3: to work on the house or something. Like that, but
- 25:05Speaker 3: then that changes the whole.
- 25:06Speaker 4: Trajectory of the story.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree that it didn't seem like there was
- 25:12Speaker 2: some big blow up that ended their relationship. I almost
- 25:15Speaker 2: believed it more, though, because I think that's real that
- 25:20Speaker 2: relationships when they're not being nurtured fall apart. And it
- 25:24Speaker 2: seemed like they had a conversation where she apologized for
- 25:28Speaker 2: not really putting in the effort that was needed, and
- 25:31Speaker 2: he later does too. I think that I don't know,
- 25:34Speaker 2: it felt real to me that that could happen, that
- 25:36Speaker 2: these two people weren't really on the same page because
- 25:39Speaker 2: they were just living life and not really focused on
- 25:44Speaker 2: each other's needs.
- 25:46Speaker 3: But do you think they accomplished that by the end
- 25:49Speaker 3: of the movie.
- 25:50Speaker 2: It's so hard because if they had just to me,
- 25:53Speaker 2: the better relationship in this movie is, of course Anna
- 25:58Speaker 2: and Ruby. I'm more interesting in that friendship. So the
- 26:03Speaker 2: idea of them just having met and maybe starting a romance,
- 26:06Speaker 2: in my mind, I'm like, uh, they don't need to
- 26:08Speaker 2: fall in love over the course of the two weeks
- 26:10Speaker 2: in order to get this house ready for the open house.
- 26:12Speaker 2: On the other hand, the bigger relationship is Anna and Ruby,
- 26:18Speaker 2: so maybe it's Okay, if we have, I would be
- 26:21Speaker 2: okay with that love story.
- 26:22Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, their relationship was secondary to me.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Though I agree. I agree.
- 26:29Speaker 2: So I don't have a lot of wishes for this movie,
- 26:31Speaker 2: but I have a tangentially related wish. I've mentioned this
- 26:35Speaker 2: movie before. It is called The Spirit of Christmas. It
- 26:38Speaker 2: stars Jen Lily. It is about an old house that
- 26:42Speaker 2: she I'm fuzzy on the details. It's been several years,
- 26:46Speaker 2: but she has to get this house ready to sell
- 26:49Speaker 2: and it is also haunted.
- 26:51Speaker 3: Uh.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Of course she falls in love with this ghost. And
- 26:55Speaker 2: my wish is for either you to watch it on
- 26:59Speaker 2: your own or for us to consider our future review
- 27:02Speaker 2: of this movie post holiday season because our schedule is packed,
- 27:05Speaker 2: because I think we really need to talk about this movie. Well,
- 27:08Speaker 2: it's a classic.
- 27:10Speaker 3: There's so many there's so many problems with just the
- 27:12Speaker 3: synopsis of it.
- 27:13Speaker 4: How do you fall in love with a ghost?
- 27:15Speaker 3: Like? What kind of future do you?
- 27:16Speaker 2: Well, that's how the movie ends.
- 27:18Speaker 4: That's the wild part.
- 27:20Speaker 3: I kind of understand, Like the friendship between Anna and Ruby, Yes,
- 27:25Speaker 3: like she's trying to get her to pass on.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Yes, you know what I mean?
- 27:30Speaker 2: So yes, of course, this movie is significantly better. I'm
- 27:33Speaker 2: not suggesting the Spirit of Christmas is in any way
- 27:36Speaker 2: a better movie. I'm saying you simply it's from twenty
- 27:39Speaker 2: fifteen starring Jen Lily. That's all you need to know.
- 27:43Speaker 2: I mean her Cold Storm that was so hot. Oh, like,
- 27:48Speaker 2: I haven't seen him in anything else.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Okay, I'm open to it sometime in the new year. Yes,
- 27:55Speaker 3: I have one more wish. Yes, I needed more backstory, like,
- 28:00Speaker 3: for example, why did Anna and Elliott dissolve their business?
- 28:04Speaker 3: What was their business? Why did they call off their engagement?
- 28:07Speaker 3: Ruby daed in a car crash on her twenty fifth birthday?
- 28:10Speaker 3: How was she chasing after Charlie? Why didn't Why didn't
- 28:14Speaker 3: Anna's dad like Elliott? Like, I need a lot of
- 28:16Speaker 3: questions answered.
- 28:18Speaker 2: I agree with all of that. And the Ruby storyline
- 28:22Speaker 2: with Charlie was so unclear to me because obviously you
- 28:26Speaker 2: see him arrive at her party, she sends him away
- 28:28Speaker 2: because of all the expectations of her family, and then
- 28:32Speaker 2: when you come to find out that they were engaged,
- 28:35Speaker 2: but hm, she sends him away but her family doesn't approve.
- 28:41Speaker 2: I do feel like we could have gotten more out
- 28:43Speaker 2: of this movie.
- 28:44Speaker 3: I think so too, especially with some of those little details.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Yes, and maybe some like I didn't need quite as
- 28:51Speaker 2: much like Mantle repair scenes because something had to go. Also,
- 28:55Speaker 2: just cut the dad out, completely cut that the dad
- 28:58Speaker 2: didn't even be there, that you could completely cut him out.
- 29:01Speaker 4: I agree.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Sorry, Xavier's hotello, I apologize.
- 29:03Speaker 4: Agree.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Do you have any did you see that? I only
- 29:06Speaker 3: have one.
- 29:07Speaker 2: I'd like to talk about something, okay, and that is
- 29:09Speaker 2: the continued insistence on the part of Hallmark that men
- 29:17Speaker 2: age differently than women. Julie Cazallo is forty two m
- 29:23Speaker 2: The actor who plays her father, Xavier Sotello, is fifty
- 29:26Speaker 2: eight years old. Oh jeez, it's too much people.
- 29:29Speaker 3: So you would prefer if they cast a more age
- 29:33Speaker 3: appropriate actor.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Someone in their sixties. Yes, that really bugs you, huh.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Always the second he came on the screen, I was like, well,
- 29:41Speaker 2: I'm looking this up.
- 29:42Speaker 4: You're like, that guy's not old enough hit me with her?
- 29:46Speaker 4: Did you see that? Okay?
- 29:47Speaker 3: Anna arrives at the house and she sees Ruby dress up.
- 29:50Speaker 3: This is where Ruby comments on Anna's less than fashionable outfit.
- 29:55Speaker 3: Do you remember the scene? Like, because Anna comes in,
- 29:58Speaker 3: She's like, oh you changed, and then Ruby's like this
- 30:00Speaker 3: is fashion or she says something like that, and then
- 30:03Speaker 3: she like, dis is whatever Anna's wearing. The next scene,
- 30:08Speaker 3: we see Anna is waxing the floors. This is before
- 30:11Speaker 3: the whole like feathers on the.
- 30:12Speaker 4: Floor, uh huh.
- 30:14Speaker 3: And Anna is wearing jeans and a T shirt. But
- 30:18Speaker 3: it's the same day because Ruby is still on her
- 30:20Speaker 3: same outfit. But then in the following scene, Anna's back
- 30:23Speaker 3: in her original outfit that Ruby made fun of. So
- 30:28Speaker 3: I just think like some scenes were out of sequence.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Films out of order.
- 30:32Speaker 4: Yeeah. Yeah.
- 30:34Speaker 3: But I thought Anna's outfits were real cute, like her
- 30:37Speaker 3: knee high black boots really darling, with her little skirts
- 30:41Speaker 3: so cute, yes, and then with her like jeans and
- 30:44Speaker 3: black shirt, with her cute little jacket and her tennis shoes.
- 30:47Speaker 3: It was very much something I would wear, so I
- 30:50Speaker 3: very much liked it.
- 30:52Speaker 2: I thought it was so funny when Ruby did her hair,
- 30:53Speaker 2: She's like, there looks so much better. I'm like it,
- 30:56Speaker 2: you put a clip in it. It looks the same.
- 30:59Speaker 4: You put a clip.
- 31:00Speaker 2: What did you rate?
- 31:02Speaker 3: I gave this movie four stars.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Four point two five stars, rate two five.
- 31:07Speaker 4: That's a new rating.
- 31:10Speaker 2: It was almost at four and a half almost it
- 31:12Speaker 2: was great.
- 31:13Speaker 3: What what what you said?
- 31:16Speaker 4: I'm all tingue tied.
- 31:17Speaker 3: You said you thought this was maybe the best movie
- 31:19Speaker 3: of the year.
- 31:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know.
- 31:21Speaker 2: The rating system is meaningless.
- 31:25Speaker 4: It truly is.
- 31:27Speaker 2: I feel like it's a four star. Yes, there's no
- 31:31Speaker 2: actual math involved here. Maybe one day, I maybe in
- 31:36Speaker 2: twenty twenty four, I will keep a note with all
- 31:39Speaker 2: of the ratings of all the movies, because what I
- 31:42Speaker 2: never do is think, oh, well I rated that movie
- 31:44Speaker 2: four stars, but this was so much better than that.
- 31:47Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, maybe we should like designate, like what is
- 31:52Speaker 3: a one star.
- 31:52Speaker 4: What's a two star? What's a three star? Beyond a rubric?
- 31:58Speaker 2: Yes, I don't want to do that, Okay, just Pure Vibes.
- 32:06Speaker 2: You can talk me into it. I don't want to
- 32:08Speaker 2: shoot your idea down.
- 32:09Speaker 4: I'll consider this. Ratings are done on Pure Vibe.
- 32:12Speaker 3: I love it.
- 32:14Speaker 4: I love it.
- 32:15Speaker 2: If you love seeing real life couples on screen. We
