- 0:25Speaker 1: Welcome to opposition Territory. Here at the Philadelphia Sports Table
- 0:28Speaker 1: podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show
- 0:31Speaker 1: in the world, twelve years strong. We've got a great
- 0:33Speaker 1: opposition territory show coming your way. We are previewing the
- 0:36Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles in Kansas City Chiefs week two matchup. It's
- 0:41Speaker 1: gonna be a barn burner, for sure. I have no
- 0:44Speaker 1: idea why I just used the phrase barn burner. I
- 0:47Speaker 1: sounded like an old man saying that maybe I am
- 0:49Speaker 1: an old man. Anyway, I'm Jeff Warren and uh here
- 0:52Speaker 1: with the one of our first time guests from Arrowhead
- 0:54Speaker 1: Pride dot com. You know we love that site. We
- 0:57Speaker 1: love our sp nation sites. Here at the PSD PODCAS show,
- 1:00Speaker 1: we've got Jared Zapp. Buddy, how you doing and thanks
- 1:02Speaker 1: so much for joining us.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Not to be here, I wouldn't say I'm really doing
- 1:07Speaker 2: that well after a week of covering this Chiefs game
- 1:09Speaker 2: and the coverage that just does not end.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Yes, it's not gonna end. But look, you've got your
- 1:15Speaker 1: very first Chiefs fans have their very first home opener
- 1:19Speaker 1: game this week against the Philadelphia Eagles. I mean, look,
- 1:23Speaker 1: I could say that it was bizarre for the Eagles
- 1:25Speaker 1: last year, kicking off the twenty twenty four twenty twenty
- 1:28Speaker 1: five season down in Brazil. Kind of a weird feeling,
- 1:31Speaker 1: I would imagine for Chiefs fans as well, and even
- 1:33Speaker 1: Chargers fans too. But I really do want to start
- 1:36Speaker 1: our discussion here, Jared Bide, you know, assessing what we
- 1:40Speaker 1: saw from that Chief's team in Week one against Los
- 1:44Speaker 1: Angeles Chargers. I mean, it was a surprising game, I
- 1:48Speaker 1: think for many of us to watch. Then again, it's
- 1:50Speaker 1: early in the season. There's usually some rust that needs
- 1:53Speaker 1: to get knocked off from from all a lot of teams,
- 1:57Speaker 1: a lot of talent in the NFL. But I truly
- 1:59Speaker 1: thought that Chiefs would really be the aggressor in this game.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I don't know from an outsider's perspective, as somebody's just
- 2:08Speaker 1: watching Week one, it seemed that there was like this
- 2:11Speaker 1: lack of like motivation and mojo kind of coming from
- 2:14Speaker 1: the Chiefs on both sides of the ball. Quite frankly,
- 2:18Speaker 1: there are of course key injuries on this team, especially offense,
- 2:22Speaker 1: especially with the wide receiver corps. We also saw some
- 2:26Speaker 1: baffling stuff happening with the defense as well. So take
- 2:31Speaker 1: us through it here in terms of your opinion here,
- 2:33Speaker 1: you know what's your take and assessment from what we
- 2:36Speaker 1: saw in the field from the Kansas City Chiefs in
- 2:38Speaker 1: Week one.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Here, I really think you can take a whole lot
- 2:41Speaker 2: from the offense right now. I mean, Philadelphia sports fans
- 2:45Speaker 2: know a lot about how Andy Reid works, and I
- 2:47Speaker 2: think we know how important those first fifteen plays.
- 2:51Speaker 3: That he scripts are to how the game goes.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Because he puts those in, he knows what he wants
- 2:56Speaker 2: to do. The first fifteen calls. It helps him really
- 2:59Speaker 2: make some prettys to adjust the defense as the game
- 3:01Speaker 2: goes on. And that got thrown out the window three
- 3:05Speaker 2: plays in when exag You're worthy went down.
- 3:08Speaker 3: We don't think it's going to be.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Season ending, but we haven't really gotten any confirmation that
- 3:13Speaker 2: it's not. I'm fairly certain you're not going to see
- 3:15Speaker 2: him this Sunday against the Eagles.
- 3:18Speaker 3: So I really feel that Andy's first fifteen getting.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Thrown out the window that put the offense in a
- 3:27Speaker 2: hole that they did rebound from. Because the offense played
- 3:30Speaker 2: very well in the second half met the defense.
- 3:35Speaker 3: I don't really know what happened.
- 3:38Speaker 2: You can say a lot the Chiefs don't always look
- 3:41Speaker 2: perfect Week one, but under Andy Reid, the Chiefs.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Always look ready.
- 3:45Speaker 2: You can always tell that that training camp has put
- 3:48Speaker 2: them in position to play, and especially when they've played
- 3:51Speaker 2: the Chargers earlier in the season, they.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Have almost always looked like fifteen not getting gassed, and
- 3:58Speaker 3: you just did not see that on Sunday.
- 4:05Speaker 2: One thing, that one thing that I really thought was
- 4:07Speaker 2: going to work to the chiefs favor going into that
- 4:09Speaker 2: game was Andy Reid has just been so good at
- 4:13Speaker 2: adjusting to all the NFL schedule quirks. Yeah, I'm wondering
- 4:18Speaker 2: if the two hour bus ride on Gang Day, which
- 4:21Speaker 2: I did not realize that.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Was a thing. I guess that was a thing for
- 4:24Speaker 3: the Packers last year.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and that yeah, because I guess the Eagles were
- 4:29Speaker 2: like the Chargers and stayed across the street from the stadium.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I think so. Yeah. Actually, now that you're saying that, yes.
- 4:35Speaker 2: And the opposition team, I did not realize that a
- 4:37Speaker 2: they had to stay twenty miles away, and I did
- 4:39Speaker 2: not realize.
- 4:40Speaker 3: That Russia we're in stall Paulo Is. I mean, would
- 4:44Speaker 3: I live in Forworth.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Texas And I can't imagine traffic worse than what I see.
- 4:50Speaker 3: On a regular basis, and you know, two hours to
- 4:53Speaker 3: go nineteen miles.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I imagine that.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Yes, And the last thing and Chiefs fans have not
- 4:59Speaker 2: been really good about this, but I think you've really
- 5:01Speaker 2: got to give a good hat tip to the Chargers.
- 5:06Speaker 3: They had an incredible game plan.
- 5:07Speaker 2: I think everybody thought these guys find a running back
- 5:11Speaker 2: when the first day of free agency, they drafted a
- 5:14Speaker 2: running back in the first round of the draft.
- 5:16Speaker 3: They've got Greg Roman, They've got Jim Harbaugh.
- 5:19Speaker 2: We have years of knowledge of what they're going to do,
- 5:22Speaker 2: and that's not how they came out. Yeah, I think
- 5:25Speaker 2: the Chargers are the best team the Chiefs are going
- 5:27Speaker 2: to face all season. I do think that the Chargers having,
- 5:31Speaker 2: you know, a franchise quarterback, I think I don't think
- 5:34Speaker 2: you could put Justin Herbert outside the top eight quarterbacks,
- 5:37Speaker 2: and they never really unleashed him like they did on Friday.
- 5:41Speaker 2: I think the Chargers are new were uniquely set up
- 5:45Speaker 2: to really just have an unscouted game plan, and I
- 5:49Speaker 2: think they pulled Steve Spagnola that.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it was execution too. I mean they executed the
- 5:55Speaker 1: way that they needed to execute against his Chiefs team
- 5:58Speaker 1: in general on both sides to the ball. But I
- 6:00Speaker 1: want to move onto this. You know this upcoming week
- 6:04Speaker 1: here it's a Super Bowl rematch Jared against the Eagles.
- 6:08Speaker 1: With regard to the Chiefs here and again it's Chiefs
- 6:12Speaker 1: home opener, the energy is going to be really, really high.
- 6:15Speaker 1: These are two teams coming off Week one, again looking
- 6:19Speaker 1: a bit rusty in certain areas, not really strong in
- 6:22Speaker 1: certain aspects of their defensive course, certain areas of the offense.
- 6:27Speaker 1: You know, again, need to get that rust knocked off.
- 6:30Speaker 1: So it's a two part question for you. Let's start
- 6:32Speaker 1: with this first one. What's the biggest area of improvement
- 6:35Speaker 1: the Chiefs need on offense? And then we'll move over
- 6:39Speaker 1: to the defense. So that area of improvement that you
- 6:41Speaker 1: want to see on offense, what does that come down to.
- 6:44Speaker 2: I don't know that they're going to be able to
- 6:46Speaker 2: get what they really need on offense with Rashid Rice
- 6:49Speaker 2: suspended and now we haven't had a practice week, But
- 6:52Speaker 2: I don't think anybody expects savor Worthy is going to
- 6:54Speaker 2: step up. Yeah, they don't really have a yard after
- 6:58Speaker 2: the catch threat, and you Andy Reid's offense is going
- 7:03Speaker 2: to be very ham strong without a run after the catch.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Wide receiver Hollywood Brown, veteran receiver, very good wide receiver,
- 7:12Speaker 2: I think underrated player. He had a very good second half.
- 7:15Speaker 2: He can run like the wind and get open deep,
- 7:19Speaker 2: but once he catches the ball, he's not going to
- 7:21Speaker 2: do anything with it. Right, There's a couple of rookies
- 7:26Speaker 2: who I'm wondering. I'm wondering if you might if you
- 7:30Speaker 2: might see a little bit bigger role for They had
- 7:32Speaker 2: a rookie fourth Mongan wide receiver, Jalen Royals, who who
- 7:37Speaker 2: they were doing some of that gag stuff within camp.
- 7:40Speaker 2: He's been out with some knee tendonitis. Again, doesn't sound
- 7:44Speaker 2: like it's season ending, but they held he didn't even
- 7:48Speaker 2: travel to Brazil. They had a running back that they
- 7:51Speaker 2: drafted the seventh round, and I know nobody wants to
- 7:53Speaker 2: count on a running back in the seventh round, but
- 7:56Speaker 2: they drafted a running back for chard Smith who was
- 7:58Speaker 2: a college wide receiver, turn and running back that I
- 8:01Speaker 2: think maybe can give a little bit juice and some
- 8:03Speaker 2: gadget plays. Maybe you will see them try to do
- 8:07Speaker 2: some things with those players. But it also wouldn't surprise
- 8:11Speaker 2: me if they're going to hold that back for a
- 8:13Speaker 2: couple of weeks when they see Baltimore, which is a
- 8:16Speaker 2: more important it's going to be a more important game
- 8:18Speaker 2: than Philadelphia.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, on the flip side of things, what's the
- 8:22Speaker 1: biggest area of improvement the Chiefs are going to need
- 8:24Speaker 1: on the defensive side of the ball.
- 8:27Speaker 3: It's got to be the past defense.
- 8:28Speaker 2: They did not look like they were anywhere near where
- 8:31Speaker 2: they were supposed to be. And you're and you're talking
- 8:35Speaker 2: about some players who have been successful in the league,
- 8:38Speaker 2: some players on Friday Night, their shortcomings kind of showed
- 8:43Speaker 2: in an extreme form, like we've seen this problem before,
- 8:47Speaker 2: but it's never been this bad. I think communication really
- 8:51Speaker 2: looked like a big issue. The Chiefs did have a
- 8:54Speaker 2: starting cornerback, Christian Fulton, who he's coming back off a
- 8:58Speaker 2: knee cleanup and he's real slow in camp, but they
- 9:01Speaker 2: played them almost the entire third preseason game. He practiced
- 9:05Speaker 2: in full all week, and we thought, well, he's probably
- 9:09Speaker 2: going to play. Steve Spagnola's stereotypical your starting cornerback, you
- 9:13Speaker 2: played one hundred percent of the snaps, and he would
- 9:15Speaker 2: played fifteen snaps, And he went from forty six snaps
- 9:19Speaker 2: in a week three preseason game to fifteen snaps in
- 9:22Speaker 2: Week one. I kind of wondered if that decision was
- 9:25Speaker 2: made a little bit late to scale his rollback, okay,
- 9:29Speaker 2: because it really looked like you had players who have
- 9:32Speaker 2: been in the system for years who did not look
- 9:35Speaker 2: like they knew where to line up at the start
- 9:37Speaker 2: of a play.
- 9:39Speaker 1: There seemed to be confusion every now and again. I mean,
- 9:42Speaker 1: that's how it looked as somebody on the outside who
- 9:44Speaker 1: doesn't necessarily follow Steve Spagnolo's scheming necessarily. But I mean,
- 9:50Speaker 1: it's going to be interesting to see this week against
- 9:53Speaker 1: this Eagles team how these matchups really work. And it's
- 9:57Speaker 1: also going to be interesting to see too, Jared just
- 10:01Speaker 1: you know Patrick Mahomes, you know, because like it never
- 10:06Speaker 1: ceases to amaze me. The guy just finds ways to
- 10:09Speaker 1: make plays even when the team is down. He has
- 10:12Speaker 1: that it. Eagles fans, I know everybody out there are
- 10:15Speaker 1: gonna get upside with me. If still they we're very honest,
- 10:17Speaker 1: show Patrick Mahomes still one of the greats in this
- 10:20Speaker 1: league at his position. And I've been thinking, especially after
- 10:24Speaker 1: this Week one matchup against the Chargers, Jared, that that
- 10:30Speaker 1: all too often we see him putting the team on
- 10:32Speaker 1: his shoulders, the entire team on his shoulders. We've seen
- 10:35Speaker 1: this time and time again over the years, and I
- 10:37Speaker 1: do wonder if that role is perhaps starting to take
- 10:42Speaker 1: its toll on him in a certain way. Again, it's
- 10:45Speaker 1: early in the season, guys are gonna need to get
- 10:48Speaker 1: reps on both sides of the ball. But really, Patrick
- 10:51Speaker 1: Mahomes really does put the Kansas City Chiefs on his shoulders.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And some may say rightfully so, because of his contract,
- 10:58Speaker 1: because of what he's done in the past. Is one
- 11:00Speaker 1: of the best to play the game. But I'm wondering
- 11:03Speaker 1: if there is too much being placed on Mahomes. And
- 11:07Speaker 1: I'm wondering if you expect to maybe see the same
- 11:09Speaker 1: against the Eagles this week. What are your thoughts.
- 11:12Speaker 3: I'm gonna be honest. He was scaring me on Friday
- 11:15Speaker 3: with some of those runs and some of those hits
- 11:17Speaker 3: he was taking.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Yes, yes, I want you.
- 11:21Speaker 2: To make a spectacular play, but we we just saw
- 11:25Speaker 2: a wide receiver go down with a dislocated shoulder that
- 11:29Speaker 2: you saw the training staff popping back up.
- 11:31Speaker 3: I don't I don't need to see Mahomes leaning into
- 11:34Speaker 3: the hit like that like you did on a couple
- 11:36Speaker 3: of those runs. Yeah, that they do put too much
- 11:41Speaker 3: on his back.
- 11:42Speaker 2: They've they've managed a massive quarterback contract and also they're
- 11:49Speaker 2: not spending the money that the Eagles ownership is spending.
- 11:53Speaker 3: They've been really good at finding the pieces to put
- 11:56Speaker 3: him in position to succeed. Absolutely, Yeah, they're putting too
- 12:00Speaker 3: They put too much on him.
- 12:02Speaker 2: And my main criticism of Andy Reid he does not
- 12:06Speaker 2: especially the last probably three four years, there's just not
- 12:10Speaker 2: been an attempt to make a run game that limits
- 12:14Speaker 2: those shots Mahomes is taking.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Yeah, you're and I know he's superman.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I know that playoff run on the high angle spring
- 12:23Speaker 2: that he reaggravated before halftime against the Eagles, and he
- 12:29Speaker 2: came back and did that, and that that's one of
- 12:32Speaker 2: the most amazing things I think I've ever seen in
- 12:34Speaker 2: the NFL, is just playing through one of the most
- 12:36Speaker 2: painful injuries in sports, and that had already been managed
- 12:39Speaker 2: for a month. I think they asked him to be
- 12:42Speaker 2: Superman too much.
- 12:43Speaker 3: I don't. I don't think this game.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I think Andy Reid is a very level headed professional,
- 12:50Speaker 2: like I don't. I think he thinks of this as
- 12:53Speaker 2: a completely different vote than what happened with the Philadelphia
- 12:57Speaker 2: Eagles in the Super Bowl.
- 12:58Speaker 3: I don't think he holds grudges.
- 13:00Speaker 2: I really think he moves on as fast as it
- 13:02Speaker 2: looks like this is a circle on Patrick Mahomes' calendar. Yeah,
- 13:08Speaker 2: he's going to want this one, and he's probably going
- 13:10Speaker 2: to want to do some superhuman stuff even without his
- 13:14Speaker 2: two best wide receivers.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Yeah. I would absolutely agree with you on that. That's
- 13:18Speaker 1: just type, that's the type of player that he is. Again, folks,
- 13:22Speaker 1: we are talking to Jared Sap from Arrowhead Pride dot com.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Check out everything they have going on over there. We're
- 13:29Speaker 1: going to take a break in just a bit here,
- 13:30Speaker 1: but Jared, tell everybody where they can find you on
- 13:32Speaker 1: the socials out there, where they can find you on
- 13:34Speaker 1: the interwebs if they want to follow you and your
- 13:36Speaker 1: colleagues and what you're doing on Arrowhead.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Pride, Arood Pride. I right, probably five or six pieces
- 13:43Speaker 3: a week.
- 13:44Speaker 2: I have a I have a mailbag column coming out
- 13:46Speaker 2: where I'm also trying to encourage Chiefs fans not to
- 13:51Speaker 2: make a super quick reaction to a Week one game.
- 13:54Speaker 3: On a different continent. But I have a feeling that
- 13:57Speaker 3: it's not going to be very.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Well received, So I got sixteen more games to go.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Years of doing this, I would stress patience right. I
- 14:06Speaker 2: can be found on x at Truman Chief. I do
- 14:09Speaker 2: a lot of commenting about the NFL in general. Once
- 14:13Speaker 2: in a while, I do a piece on SB Nation's
- 14:16Speaker 2: main side that that's been a while, yeah, And I
- 14:18Speaker 2: think the last one I did was proposing that the
- 14:22Speaker 2: Dallas Cowboys might not resign Dak Prescott.
- 14:25Speaker 3: That's been a couple of years and they haven't asked
- 14:27Speaker 3: me to do another one, so maybe they.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Didn't like that.
- 14:30Speaker 1: I love it. I really do that being said, Folks,
- 14:35Speaker 1: if you are watching on YouTube, like and subscribe to us,
- 14:39Speaker 1: share with some of your friends and family out there
- 14:41Speaker 1: who may be Philly sports fans, are just sports fans
- 14:43Speaker 1: in general and specifically folks who love the NFL. We
- 14:47Speaker 1: are on social media as well. We're on Instagram, Twitter,
- 14:50Speaker 1: slash x, I'm over on TikTok at mister Jeff Warren,
- 14:54Speaker 1: like our Facebook page, 'ron threads Blue Sky for Eric
- 14:57Speaker 1: and myself. And with that being said, we're gonna take
- 15:00Speaker 1: a break and we're gonna be back in just a bit.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Get into more of this upcoming matchup between the Philadelphia
- 15:06Speaker 1: Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. Stick with us, We'll be back.
- 15:11Speaker 1: All right, We are back and again here with Jared
- 15:13Speaker 1: Sap from Arrowhead Pride dot Com. Let's really start diving
- 15:18Speaker 1: into some of these matchups Jared, that we're gonna see
- 15:21Speaker 1: this week. The one I'm really gonna be concentrating on
- 15:25Speaker 1: is within the trenches and specifically Landon Dickerson, left guard
- 15:30Speaker 1: of the Philadelphia Eagles against Chris Jones and just that
- 15:33Speaker 1: interior of that Chief's defensive line. Landon Dickerson, as many
- 15:37Speaker 1: of us know, has had a back injury that's just
- 15:40Speaker 1: not going away anytime soon. It's been lingering and lingering
- 15:43Speaker 1: and lingering for weeks now. At this point, it really
- 15:46Speaker 1: could be an issue for the Eagles offensive line quite frankly.
- 15:50Speaker 1: So that's what I'm really gonna be honing in on
- 15:52Speaker 1: this week. What matchup are you gonna be looking at
- 15:54Speaker 1: in the trenches this week?
- 15:55Speaker 3: And why I'm definitely looking at how Chris Jones responds
- 16:00Speaker 3: this week. It's Chris Jones.
- 16:05Speaker 2: It looked like he freelanced on that third and fourteen
- 16:08Speaker 2: at the end of the game Friday night to where
- 16:12Speaker 2: they had a great chance to get the ball back
- 16:13Speaker 2: to Mahomes, and the way they were playing at that point,
- 16:18Speaker 2: I think they could have won. And Chris Jones turned
- 16:22Speaker 2: the wrong direction to get Justin Herbert. There was nobody
- 16:25Speaker 2: else to contain him, and he just ran nonsluntly to
- 16:28Speaker 2: the side and ran for the first down and they
- 16:31Speaker 2: ice the game. And It's been a very long time
- 16:33Speaker 2: since I've seen the Chiefs player taking the criticism on
- 16:37Speaker 2: social media and the comment section of my site like
- 16:40Speaker 2: I've seen Chris Jones taking it this week. He's taken
- 16:43Speaker 2: a lot of still a lot of abuse this week
- 16:46Speaker 2: from Chiefs fans. I mean, again, you've got the contract,
- 16:51Speaker 2: you should be living up to it. He's called out
- 16:54Speaker 2: on the field by his teammate, linebacker Drew Trankle. It's
- 16:57Speaker 2: pretty pretty ugly speak when there, so I'm really curious
- 17:02Speaker 2: how he's going to respond because there's a lot of
- 17:05Speaker 2: pressure on him to deliver.
- 17:06Speaker 3: A good week this week. Really watching that chief offensive line.
- 17:13Speaker 3: They've rebuilt it.
- 17:14Speaker 2: They've got a rookie left tackle who fell and most
- 17:18Speaker 2: people think would have been a top ten selection in
- 17:21Speaker 2: the draft if not for a torn pateeler tendon and
- 17:23Speaker 2: Josh Timmins. He tore out Ohio State last year, and
- 17:28Speaker 2: the most surprising thing has been that he was He's
- 17:30Speaker 2: taken every.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Starting left tackle rep since early in the offseason, like
- 17:34Speaker 3: a lot of people thought this might it might be
- 17:36Speaker 3: half the season for he's back.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's taken every starting left tackle we've seen
- 17:41Speaker 2: so far. Last year, the Chiefs thought Kingsley Suemantaiya, who's
- 17:46Speaker 2: their left guard now? They thought he was the select
- 17:49Speaker 2: the solution that left tackle a year ago and he
- 17:52Speaker 2: played okay against the Ravens in Week one, and then
- 17:54Speaker 2: Week two he went up against Trey Hendrickson of the
- 17:57Speaker 2: Cincinnati Mingles and.
- 17:59Speaker 3: He didn't play again, I think until Week A team
- 18:02Speaker 3: when the starters were bold.
- 18:04Speaker 2: So it's a big test you got to weak of
- 18:06Speaker 2: them on you can you hold up like I don't
- 18:10Speaker 2: think the Chiefs are gonna have the Eagles offensive line
- 18:12Speaker 2: anytime soon. But the Chiefs didn't have the Eagles offensive
- 18:17Speaker 2: line when they won the Super Bowl against the Eagles.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Yeah, they didn't.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Mean Mahomes was on the run against the forty nine
- 18:25Speaker 2: ers And the year later, is the offensive line going
- 18:30Speaker 2: to be good enough to get Mahomes time to do anything,
- 18:32Speaker 2: because they weren't in that first half of the Super
- 18:34Speaker 2: Bowl last year. And it's it's just gonna be a
- 18:37Speaker 2: really big test from you know, a defensive coordinator who's
- 18:42Speaker 2: coming off with some really strong success against what they do.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Yeah, and you're gonna have one Jalen Carter who's gonna
- 18:48Speaker 1: be pretty hungry playing his first game of the season
- 18:50Speaker 1: after being a jerk last week. Of course, knowing what
- 18:53Speaker 1: he did. It's gonna be interesting to see that matchup
- 18:56Speaker 1: for sure. But you know, as we're continuing the DISCUSSI here,
- 19:01Speaker 1: you know, Jalen Hurts didn't put up the greatest numbers
- 19:04Speaker 1: in the world in Week one, but he was absolutely
- 19:07Speaker 1: the MVP in that game against the Cowboys because of
- 19:11Speaker 1: what he did with his legs. And Jalen Hurts has
- 19:13Speaker 1: consistently done this. He's consistently growing as a quarterback frankly,
- 19:17Speaker 1: and consistently getting better in different facets, in different areas
- 19:22Speaker 1: of his game. Again, sole reason why the Eagles won
- 19:25Speaker 1: in Week one. Now, the Chiefs defense is going to
- 19:29Speaker 1: need to contain him right out of the gate if
- 19:31Speaker 1: they are going to have an opportunity to win this game.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Stay in this game. Jalen Hurts? Is that good again?
- 19:37Speaker 1: We go back to the Super Bowl, we saw what
- 19:39Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts did, then there's certainly no regression there with
- 19:42Speaker 1: him at all. How can the Chiefs really negate what
- 19:47Speaker 1: the reigning Super Bowl MVP can do with his legs
- 19:50Speaker 1: and how he's just able to keep drives alive? What
- 19:53Speaker 1: are your thoughts here, Jared.
- 19:54Speaker 2: I'm going to be really interested to see this because
- 19:57Speaker 2: I think Chiefs fans have forgotten it.
- 19:59Speaker 3: I think the NFL has forgotten that.
- 20:01Speaker 2: I thought for about the first quarter and the half
- 20:03Speaker 2: of the Super Bowl, I thought it looked like Steve
- 20:05Speaker 2: Spagnola had showed up with an outstanding game plan. They
- 20:09Speaker 2: they were doing a great job of limiting what the
- 20:11Speaker 2: Eagles can do. Early on in the Super Bowl, they
- 20:14Speaker 2: containing for sure, and as it became.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Clear that the Chiefs offense wasn't going to be able
- 20:20Speaker 3: to get them more than four plays.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Of rest at a time, it just unraveled. I do
- 20:28Speaker 2: think Spagnola can be successful against Hurts. He he had
- 20:32Speaker 2: a pretty good game plan. If I'm remembering right. When
- 20:34Speaker 2: the Chiefs and Eagles played on Monday Night Football, a
- 20:36Speaker 2: couple of years ago the game that again Mahomes was
- 20:40Speaker 2: in good position to win it and I believe had
- 20:43Speaker 2: a like then he had a heartbreaking drop by Mark
- 20:47Speaker 2: poys Vela.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Scanting on the last drive if I remember that game correctly.
- 20:51Speaker 2: But Stagna's always had a good game plan I think
- 20:56Speaker 2: against Lamar Jackson. He's always been really successful at getting
- 21:02Speaker 2: Lamar Jackson into a passing.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Rhythm and not not being able to rely on the
- 21:07Speaker 3: run game as much.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, and so yeah, I'm sorry, go ahead.
- 21:13Speaker 2: He's been generally been pretty good at taking Lamar in
- 21:16Speaker 2: either limiting Lamar's arm or his legs. He can usually
- 21:19Speaker 2: take one of those away. I'm wondering if you're gonna
- 21:21Speaker 2: see a game plan like that. I don't think you're
- 21:24Speaker 2: gonna see Chris Jones trusted to go after Jalen Hurts
- 21:27Speaker 2: on his own because if Justin Herbert can beat you
- 21:30Speaker 2: that bad, I can't imagine what Jalen Hurts is gonna do.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it's gonna it's uh, I mean, And like I said,
- 21:37Speaker 1: you know, Jalen Hurts is getting better at seeing the
- 21:39Speaker 1: field in general. He really is getting better at it.
- 21:43Speaker 1: And it's gonna say, I think we're gonna see some
- 21:45Speaker 1: blitzes for sure this week. And given the Eagles secondary situation,
- 21:49Speaker 1: the cornerback two situation for the Eagles defense not great
- 21:53Speaker 1: and according to Vic Fangio, Dori Jackson likely gonna be
- 21:57Speaker 1: starting again this week. Too much of Eagles Nations dismay. So, buddy,
- 22:03Speaker 1: I'm going to let you go here in a second,
- 22:05Speaker 1: But as we do on all of our pregame preview
- 22:08Speaker 1: shows here on Opposition Territory with our guests, we want
- 22:11Speaker 1: to end with the two questions, the one thing the
- 22:14Speaker 1: Chiefs are going to need to hit on for a
- 22:15Speaker 1: win against the Eagles this week, and vice versa. So
- 22:19Speaker 1: let's start with the one thing you believe the Chiefs
- 22:22Speaker 1: are going to need to hit on for that win
- 22:24Speaker 1: against the Philadelphia Eagles this week.
- 22:26Speaker 3: What are your thoughts that defense has to be better?
- 22:30Speaker 2: And that's a really tall order when you got aj
- 22:32Speaker 2: Brown and Devanta Smith coming to town.
- 22:34Speaker 3: If Lad mcconkee a shell of if Lad mcconakye.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Or Rookie a veteran who's back with the Chargers after
- 22:45Speaker 2: a year away, who's in his thirties, if they can
- 22:48Speaker 2: all do that to you, I can't imagine what the
- 22:50Speaker 2: Eagles are going to be able to do if you
- 22:52Speaker 2: can't line up the assignments better. I mean, the Eagles
- 22:55Speaker 2: are going to hit some big plays. Can you limit
- 22:58Speaker 2: it enough to where the Chiefs can match the big
- 22:59Speaker 2: plays and with the wide receivers, the Chiefs are going.
- 23:02Speaker 3: To be trotting out.
- 23:03Speaker 2: I guess it's probably not, but the Chiefs have to
- 23:07Speaker 2: hit better on pass defense. Pass defense is the biggest
- 23:09Speaker 2: reason why they're not want to know right now?
- 23:12Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Well, on the flip side of things here,
- 23:15Speaker 1: what's the one thing you think that Philadelphia Eagles are
- 23:18Speaker 1: going to need to hit on for a win against
- 23:20Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs out in Kansas City this week since.
- 23:23Speaker 2: They're going to get the pressure they got in the
- 23:25Speaker 2: Super Bowl. But they've got to be able to get
- 23:28Speaker 2: home with four and rattle Patrick Mahomes. I mean, we
- 23:31Speaker 2: have a big enough sample right now. If you can
- 23:33Speaker 2: get home with four and you're not having to the
- 23:36Speaker 2: vote Blitzer and you've got the extra bodies and coverage,
- 23:41Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's the key to limiting Patrick Mahomes
- 23:43Speaker 2: and again without the yards after the catch threat to
- 23:47Speaker 2: kind of bail the Chiefs out. I think you can
- 23:51Speaker 2: really style me the Chiefs offense if he can't get
- 23:53Speaker 2: a few big shots.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Yeah, all right again, folks. He is Jared Sap from
