- 0:05Speaker 1: two five Pro Football, the Insider I've covered Jef Legwall.
- 0:10Speaker 1: His appearances are always must listen radio. We Learn a Lot,
- 0:14Speaker 1: brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Start with a job and with a career IBEW Local
- 0:20Speaker 1: sixty eight. It's Leggy We yet on Altitude Sports Radio
- 0:27Speaker 1: ninety two five. Yeah, we're gonna talk to Jeff Leangwald
- 0:33Speaker 1: coming up here momentarily. He's gonna join us for draft chatter,
- 0:38Speaker 1: draft yacking. Oh, were only a few weeks away from
- 0:41Speaker 1: getting this thing going finally, Andy, It's it's it's all absurd.
- 0:44Speaker 1: It's all ridiculous, man, that see you. Pro Day was
- 0:47Speaker 1: cool and it gave us a nice reprieve, put it
- 0:50Speaker 1: put us in a good little spot there to be
- 0:52Speaker 1: able to talk about it. And now we're just back
- 0:53Speaker 1: to everybody lying about everything.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it was interesting to watch. Okay, well, was there
- 0:59Speaker 2: some lying right after the Pro Day? Because did you
- 1:01Speaker 2: see Jim Wyatt who writes a matter of fact, he's
- 1:03Speaker 2: one of Legy's buddies. He writes for you know, right
- 1:05Speaker 2: follows the Titans all that. Yeah, they claimed after the
- 1:08Speaker 2: pro day they'd seen all they needed to see, they
- 1:10Speaker 2: had the tape. Blah blah blah, we're canceling our interview.
- 1:12Speaker 2: We don't need to meet with you. We know what
- 1:13Speaker 2: we need to know. And that really that's some line too.
- 1:16Speaker 2: You just know you're gonna take cam.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Ward right right, Yeah, we're we're well aware of that.
- 1:20Speaker 1: And reportedly they love cam Warden. According to other sources,
- 1:24Speaker 1: the Giants love cam Ward and people have convinced that
- 1:29Speaker 1: themselves that this guy's got start and written all over him,
- 1:32Speaker 1: which maybe he does pretty damn good college quarterback.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Right, Well, we can ask mister leg Well, my question
- 1:38Speaker 2: is don't you usually get and Jeff if you want
- 1:41Speaker 2: to chime in, l O Jeff. We see on the
- 1:44Speaker 2: what is it the Ramos Law hotline car accident? You
- 1:48Speaker 2: need Ramos Law. He's a doctor and a lawyer. Yeah,
- 1:51Speaker 2: I don't know the rest ramoslaw dot com. You got
- 1:54Speaker 2: it there, he telled it there, It is well done.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I would like to be a doctor and a lawyer,
- 1:58Speaker 2: mister Ramos, if you'd like to or is it mister
- 2:00Speaker 2: Ramos esquire? Is that what that is?
- 2:02Speaker 1: Doctor?
- 2:03Speaker 2: M doctor? Yeah, there's all sorts of stuff going on. Now,
- 2:06Speaker 2: that's what I'd like, Jeff. Don't we always get at
- 2:08Speaker 2: least one good quarterback out of every draft? Maybe not great,
- 2:11Speaker 2: maybe not franchise, but done history show there is at
- 2:14Speaker 2: least one good quarterback every draft at starter caliber.
- 2:19Speaker 3: I would think so, but that's not really good odds
- 2:22Speaker 3: when you really think about.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Well, yeah, would you all right, I'm gonna put you
- 2:27Speaker 2: on the spot, after what you saw the other day,
- 2:29Speaker 2: would you take.
- 2:31Speaker 3: If you say, like one good first round quarterback every year?
- 2:34Speaker 3: You know some years that's that's difficult. But now I
- 2:39Speaker 3: understand what you're saying, because it is such a it
- 2:42Speaker 3: is such a red alert position these days that I've
- 2:46Speaker 3: never said the supply may never have been lower with
- 2:50Speaker 3: the demand any higher than it is right now.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Who would you take? Would you take the QB or
- 2:56Speaker 2: would you go either Hunter or Carter at the top
- 3:01Speaker 2: of the board, Yeah, Jeff lagwell GM.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, Andy, I would I would, you know,
- 3:08Speaker 3: do the cliche thing and stick with my grades. And
- 3:11Speaker 3: I don't have a quarterback graded up there this year.
- 3:15Speaker 3: You know, Joe Burrow I had graded up there. You know,
- 3:19Speaker 3: I had Peyton Manning graded up there.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Pretty high.
- 3:24Speaker 3: I had Stroud graded up there. It's it's it's one
- 3:28Speaker 3: of those things where, yes, you need a quarterback and
- 3:34Speaker 3: if you get lucky and you pick a guy above
- 3:37Speaker 3: his grade and it works out, and no one's ever
- 3:39Speaker 3: gonna know you picked him above his grade. So some
- 3:43Speaker 3: of this is some behind the scenes what can you
- 3:46Speaker 3: live with, you know, in your current state of affairs.
- 3:50Speaker 3: I think the Giants are a tough team to figure
- 3:53Speaker 3: out because you've got a coaching staff and a and
- 3:56Speaker 3: a GM that are that are kind of in trouble. So,
- 4:00Speaker 3: you know, do they pick to you know, leave somebody
- 4:04Speaker 3: else a really good situation, or do they pick to
- 4:07Speaker 3: try and win games and save their jobs and all
- 4:10Speaker 3: of that.
- 4:11Speaker 2: You know what he's doing, your Nate, he's not letting
- 4:13Speaker 2: me know who's number one on the top one hundred.
- 4:15Speaker 2: We got to wait for a couple more weeks.
- 4:17Speaker 3: For it to come out. I know now, Travis Hunter,
- 4:23Speaker 3: I don't know how you could be the number one
- 4:25Speaker 3: player at two positions and not be a number one
- 4:28Speaker 3: player on the board. But that's just me. Travis will
- 4:31Speaker 3: be my number one player.
- 4:33Speaker 1: You know what, though, this conversation has me I'm curious
- 4:38Speaker 1: about this, Jeff, And I don't know how much you've
- 4:40Speaker 1: ever talked to GMS about this because you know, you
- 4:44Speaker 1: know this, you know you're not naiveve like a top
- 4:47Speaker 1: one hundred is not the same as draft value is
- 4:50Speaker 1: not the same as what a team is going to
- 4:53Speaker 1: do when they're actually right there in that spot. Is
- 4:57Speaker 1: has any team ever like let you in on is
- 5:00Speaker 1: it almost like do they can you put it inside
- 5:04Speaker 1: like an algorithm or something like that of like value
- 5:07Speaker 1: versus prospect ranking, because like if there's say, for example,
- 5:14Speaker 1: all right, if Dermani Dawson was coming into the draft
- 5:20Speaker 1: right now and you're like, this is the greatest center
- 5:22Speaker 1: that has ever lived, nobody is taking him number one overall.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Like we we know that for a fact. And obviously,
- 5:30Speaker 1: like quarterbacks are always going to have a heavier weight
- 5:32Speaker 1: to them, But has any organization ever gotten down like
- 5:35Speaker 1: so granular to be like, okay, there's actually an equation
- 5:39Speaker 1: that we could put to be able to put the
- 5:41Speaker 1: weight along with our prospect ranking.
- 5:44Speaker 3: You know, teams try mate that that. You know, the
- 5:47Speaker 3: analytics world, your goal is to get those alms as
- 5:52Speaker 3: much as possible to one number. Yeah, you know that's
- 5:56Speaker 3: you know, that. Even in baseball, that was the moneyball
- 5:59Speaker 3: print distill all of the information to one number. Football,
- 6:05Speaker 3: I just think it's so much more difficult because of
- 6:09Speaker 3: the jobs. Descriptions at every position vary so much. You know,
- 6:14Speaker 3: it's you know, in basebody, a good fielder, you know,
- 6:18Speaker 3: is is the something that you know is a value
- 6:23Speaker 3: for whatever value you put on it for everyone on
- 6:26Speaker 3: the field, right you know, do you hit good with
- 6:29Speaker 3: two strikes? Is everyone in the batting order? You know,
- 6:31Speaker 3: they don't have that. There isn't that much unison and
- 6:36Speaker 3: a lot of football analytics, and I think that's the struggle.
- 6:40Speaker 3: And you know, I don't think you'll ever get to
- 6:43Speaker 3: a point where you'll be able to just simply say,
- 6:47Speaker 3: you know, a guard isn't worth this pick. It's always
- 6:51Speaker 3: going to have a little personal assessment to it of
- 6:55Speaker 3: who's in charge of that personnel department, what do they think,
- 7:00Speaker 3: what's their data show over the years, and all of that.
- 7:04Speaker 3: But you know, I generally you can sort of work
- 7:08Speaker 3: back from the quarterback. You know, people who help the quarterback,
- 7:13Speaker 3: people who affect the quarterback and the quarterback. You know,
- 7:16Speaker 3: that's kind of your value in today's In today's NFL.
- 7:22Speaker 3: I think this draft is cool to look at because
- 7:26Speaker 3: one of the best positions is supposedly devalued now in
- 7:31Speaker 3: running back. But look what happened in the NFL this
- 7:35Speaker 3: past season. And you know, now even that little section
- 7:40Speaker 3: of analytics that people were ready to lean on is
- 7:42Speaker 3: suddenly being challenged by a really good class of running
- 7:47Speaker 3: backs and some really good offenses in the NFL that
- 7:51Speaker 3: found a place for it.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, we've hat years where we haven't had
- 7:54Speaker 1: running backs going the first round. We could have two
- 7:56Speaker 1: in the top twenty very easily. That could happen in
- 7:59Speaker 1: this year's Going back to Travis Hunter and where he
- 8:02Speaker 1: kind of fits in in this sort of analytical draft
- 8:05Speaker 1: discussion here of you're not gonna play him full time
- 8:10Speaker 1: at both positions, I think that's humanly impossible. But like
- 8:13Speaker 1: he he is kind of, you know, like one, so
- 8:16Speaker 1: he's not two players in one, but he's kind of
- 8:18Speaker 1: like one point three one point four players in one
- 8:22Speaker 1: is what you would get with a player of that level.
- 8:25Speaker 1: And again, an organization like Tennessee has to sit there
- 8:28Speaker 1: and wonder to themselves. Okay, but but is is quarterbacks
- 8:32Speaker 1: still more important than a guy that is greater than
- 8:36Speaker 1: just a single individual football player, right.
- 8:40Speaker 3: And you know the other element of that is, is
- 8:43Speaker 3: there a quarterback available that's still greater than the one
- 8:47Speaker 3: point three?
- 8:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna talk to yourself at cam order Shador.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you know you gotta you gotta say, is
- 8:53Speaker 3: a quarterback on this board better than that? Not just
- 8:56Speaker 3: in general? You know, you know, we're not looking at
- 9:00Speaker 3: a class of quarterbacks that that people would have been
- 9:05Speaker 3: as excited about in other years. It's just, you know,
- 9:09Speaker 3: it doesn't flow that way. I just find him, you know,
- 9:13Speaker 3: one of the most intriguing players I've ever looked at
- 9:17Speaker 3: in all the years of doing this. And you know,
- 9:20Speaker 3: again standing with Champ Bailey during Pro Day, you know,
- 9:24Speaker 3: it's just interesting to you know, what would you do
- 9:27Speaker 3: with them? And that's gonna be key. So he gets
- 9:31Speaker 3: as good as he can possibly be as an NFL player,
- 9:34Speaker 3: will take some effort on the people who coach him.
- 9:38Speaker 2: All right, Jeff, As you start to you know, I
- 9:40Speaker 2: think we've wrapped up all the evaluation days as you
- 9:43Speaker 2: talked about, the Pro days are done and then you
- 9:45Speaker 2: know the buffs waited for the final one and all
- 9:48Speaker 2: that kind of stuff. Did we just lose Jeff. I
- 9:51Speaker 2: think Jeff is gone hopefully, Jeff, Jeff, can you still
- 9:53Speaker 2: hear us?
- 9:54Speaker 3: I'm in there? Here you go.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Wow, don't you disappear on me? Don't you get clever?
- 10:00Speaker 3: I move around?
- 10:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I know you're not gonna let anybody hold you
- 10:04Speaker 2: down or pin you down? All right? Where would be
- 10:07Speaker 2: what would be the one position you'd be most surprised
- 10:11Speaker 2: if the Broncos dipped into that pool on during the draft.
- 10:17Speaker 3: I guess not surprised, but it would be like people
- 10:20Speaker 3: would be like, well, they don't really need that right now,
- 10:23Speaker 3: but if like one of the top three tackles fell
- 10:26Speaker 3: to that to them, you'd be like, no, you're getting
- 10:31Speaker 3: older tackle. You'd have to you'd have to at least
- 10:33Speaker 3: think about that.
- 10:37Speaker 2: All right. I like that tackle was kind of where
- 10:39Speaker 2: I was going too. Now here's my other question with
- 10:43Speaker 2: the with like the Jackson Dart and maybe mill Row
- 10:47Speaker 2: and guys like that, I wonder are the Broncos gonna
- 10:50Speaker 2: be in prime territory to trade back for maybe one
- 10:54Speaker 2: of them, because again you talked about the giants desire.
- 10:57Speaker 2: If they don't jump up and get cam Ward, I
- 10:59Speaker 2: hurt her lie talking this morning there's two teams that
- 11:02Speaker 2: love Jackson Dart do they decide to take that first
- 11:05Speaker 2: when they got the second overall pick. I think in
- 11:07Speaker 2: the second round? Yep, that could they use that with
- 11:09Speaker 2: the Broncos being prime trade back for the very start
- 11:12Speaker 2: of the round picks. Do you think if some of
- 11:14Speaker 2: these quarterbacks get you know, don't get anybody in love
- 11:17Speaker 2: with them necessarily.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Certainly, you know, and that's that's if you're the Broncos,
- 11:22Speaker 3: that's what you're hoping for. You know, you you want
- 11:25Speaker 3: somebody to want somebody else enough where you get really
- 11:32Speaker 3: good value for to me, you don't move back unless
- 11:36Speaker 3: you get the value and you're pretty certain you're still
- 11:40Speaker 3: going to get the player you want to.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Uh.
- 11:43Speaker 3: You know, I think trading back on this board, uh
- 11:47Speaker 3: carries a little more risk because there are gaps on
- 11:51Speaker 3: this draft draft board, and you know that that creates
- 11:56Speaker 3: a situation where if you trade back, you don't get
- 12:00Speaker 3: enough value for making the move and you don't get
- 12:02Speaker 3: the player you were hoping for. So I think that's
- 12:06Speaker 3: the risk. But quarterbacks, you know, if you're in the
- 12:11Speaker 3: right spot as the team that doesn't need the quarterback,
- 12:15Speaker 3: you can always benefit from the teams who really want one,
- 12:20Speaker 3: because that forces them to give up a little more
- 12:24Speaker 3: than maybe they would have.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Yeah, they get a little bit thirsty. Jeff Legwald read
- 12:28Speaker 1: his stuff at ESPN. He is assembling the top one hundred.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Spoiler alert, Travis Hunter is going to be at the
- 12:34Speaker 1: very top. LEGGI good stuff as always. Man. We'll talk
- 12:37Speaker 1: to you coming up on Friday. Take care about all right,
- 12:40Speaker 1: Jeff Legwald with us right there. Yeah, the top one
- 12:43Speaker 1: hundred is in the works right now. It is Legwald's
- 12:47Speaker 1: yearly War in Peace that he puts together on the
- 12:50Speaker 1: NFL draft, but he's already basically spoiled it for us.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Travis Hunter is going to be number one.
