- 0:00Saturday, October seventeenth.
- 0:02Here's what moved since Friday morning.
- 0:05Global first.
- 0:06Brent touched one hundred ten dollars for the first time since May,
- 0:10then settled up three dollars and ninety four cents, or three point seven percent,
- 0:14at one hundred nine dollars and eighty six cents.
- 0:17That's a four point nine percent gain on the week and the highest settlement since
- 0:21May nineteenth.
- 0:23Paper isn't even the tight part.
- 0:25North Sea Dated is holding near one hundred thirty four dollars,
- 0:28so wet barrels remain well above futures.
- 0:31The drivers were geopolitical.
- 0:33A Saudi led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched
- 0:37toward Yanbu, the Red Sea port that serves as the Hormuz bypass.
- 0:42Rapidan Energy Group confirmed no structural damage.
- 0:46UKMTO reported another commercial tanker hit by an unknown projectile off the Saudi
- 0:50coast, and Kpler says intensified Iranian attacks have pushed Gulf tanker flows
- 0:55sharply lower.
- 0:57In Russia, drone strikes forced the Ryazan refinery to suspend a primary crude unit.
- 1:02ExxonMobil said surging refining margins will lift third quarter downstream profit
- 1:07by four point five billion dollars over the prior quarter.
- 1:10OPEC plus targets stay frozen through November, with the ministerial meeting on
- 1:14November first.
- 1:15And the IEA confirmed plans to release more than twenty million barrels of emergency
- 1:20fuels.
- 1:21North America.
- 1:22Western Canadian Select for November delivery at Hardisty closed at twenty five
- 1:27dollars and fifty cents to twenty five fifty five under WTI,
- 1:31anchored near multi year discount lows.
- 1:34High tanker freight rates keep trans Pacific exports uneconomic,
- 1:38so Trans Mountain is running at roughly sixty percent, about four hundred twenty
- 1:42five thousand barrels per day to Westridge.
- 1:45Overall Canadian egress is ninety three percent utilized, and the Express Pipeline
- 1:49into Casper is at one hundred percent, two hundred eighty thousand barrels per day.
- 1:54Winter diluent blending adds roughly thirty percent in volume to heavy batches,
- 1:58which crowds pipe space further.
- 2:01Mexico, nothing material.
- 2:03United States.
- 2:04There was no scheduled EIA release since Thursday, so that report is still our
- 2:09baseline.
- 2:10Front month WTI jumped three dollars and forty four cents, three point five percent,
- 2:15to settle at one hundred one dollars and forty one cents.
- 2:19That's the first close above one hundred since September seventeenth,
- 2:22and a ten point four percent gain on the week.
- 2:25The Brent WTI spread narrowed slightly to eight dollars and forty five cents.
- 2:30On the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, the pending tranche we flagged Friday morning
- 2:34landed.
- 2:35Friday afternoon the Department of Energy issued a request for proposals for an
- 2:40exchange of up to seventeen million barrels, for November and December delivery.
- 2:45Energy Aspects says that confirms roughly twenty three million barrels were quietly
- 2:50awarded from the forty million barrel September offer.
- 2:53That leaves the reserve near two hundred eighty three million barrels,
- 2:56the lowest since October of 1982.
- 2:59On the rig count, I can't give you a confirmed headline number for the October
- 3:03sixteenth print, so I won't guess.
- 3:06The last figures I can verify are from October ninth: six hundred three total rigs,
- 3:11four hundred sixty two oil, one hundred thirty two gas.
- 3:15The read is discipline.
- 3:17No aggressive drilling spike, even with WTI at a hundred.
- 3:21From Thursday's EIA report: commercial crude is at four hundred fifteen point five
- 3:26seven seven million barrels, an eight point five five seven million barrel draw,
- 3:30against a Reuters poll that expected a draw of just two hundred eighty eight
- 3:33thousand.
- 3:35The draw was concentrated in PADD three, tied to five hundred thousand barrels per
- 3:39day of Hurricane Isaias shut ins.
- 3:41PADD four, the Rockies, built three hundred fifty eight thousand barrels to twenty
- 3:45two point seven one zero million.
- 3:48PADD two built twenty three thousand to one hundred seven million,
- 3:51with autumn turnarounds under way.
- 3:53Refinery utilization is ninety two point seven percent.
- 3:57Cushing was last confirmed at twenty four point seven million barrels.
- 4:01Two deals still pending close: Enbridge's two point five five billion dollar
- 4:05purchase of Tallgrass crude assets, and Hess Midstream's two hundred million dollar
- 4:09acquisition of Chevron's DJ Basin gathering system, which carries a twenty percent
- 4:14Saddlehorn stake.
- 4:16Uinta Basin.
- 4:17Yellow wax wellhead postings are flat at ten to fourteen dollars under Cushing.
- 4:22Delivered yellow wax into the Gulf Coast is indicated near WTI plus three dollars
- 4:27and twenty cents, roughly one hundred four dollars and sixty cents.
- 4:32Heated coiled railcar freight to the Gulf runs sixteen to eighteen dollars per
- 4:36barrel, which puts basin netbacks between eighty six sixty and eighty eight sixty,
- 4:41or twelve eighty to fourteen eighty under Cushing.
- 4:45That does not beat local Salt Lake City postings, so spot crude by rail stays shut
- 4:50and loadings are limited to minimum volume commitments.
- 4:53Salt Lake's five refiners are at their technical wax ceiling,
- 4:56about eighty thousand barrels per day, and basin rail loadings hold near one hundred
- 5:00fifteen thousand.
- 5:02On infrastructure, Energy Transfer's Price River terminal awaits final air
- 5:07permitting for a late fourth quarter start.
- 5:09Wildcat Midstream keeps phasing Helper from twenty thousand toward one hundred
- 5:13thousand barrels per day.
- 5:14The Uinta Basin Railway has laid zero track, with Surface Transportation Board
- 5:18remand proceedings, Forest Service right of way reviews, and Seven County bond
- 5:23structuring all still dragging.
- 5:25Operators report steady field work.
- 5:27Bakken.
- 5:28Per the Director's Cut, production is one point one five three million barrels per
- 5:33day on thirty three active rigs.
- 5:35Gas capture is ninety six percent, with flaring averaging one hundred thirty million
- 5:40cubic feet per day.
- 5:42Dakota Access is full at seven hundred fifty thousand barrels per day,
- 5:46committed tariffs five sixteen to seven fifty six, uncommitted nine seventy five.
- 5:52Crude by rail to the East Coast or Pacific Northwest runs ten to fifteen dollars all
- 5:56in, and that wipes out spot margins even with an eight forty five Brent WTI spread.
- 6:02Chevron is taking its Williston rigs from three to two by December to drill three
- 6:07mile laterals, and Hess Midstream projects 2027 gathering volumes down roughly five
- 6:12percent before leveling off.
- 6:14Chord, Continental, and Devon, with Grayson Mill, are steady.
- 6:18Powder River.
- 6:19Activity is stable across Anschutz, Continental, Devon, EOG,
- 6:25and Peak.
- 6:26Gathering has room.
- 6:28The choke point is downstream at Guernsey.
- 6:31Plains is integrating its five hundred eighty five million dollar Silver Creek
- 6:35gathering purchase.
- 6:36Now Gernzee, the one that matters.
- 6:39Screen postings are steady at eighty five cents over Cushing,
- 6:42around one hundred two twenty six outright.
- 6:45Clearbrook trades one fifty to two ten under Gernzee, which is sixty five cents to a
- 6:50dollar twenty five under Cushing.
- 6:52Both steady.
- 6:54Southbound capacity is the story.
- 6:56Pony Express is prorationed, with two hundred thirty thousand barrels per day of its
- 7:00four hundred thirty thousand total leaving Gernzee.
- 7:04Platte, at one hundred forty five thousand to Wood River and Patoka,
- 7:07is heavily apportioned.
- 7:09Saddlehorn and Grand Mesa are full of DJ barrels headed to Cushing.
- 7:13And the Double H conversion to NGL service permanently stripped sixty five to eighty
- 7:18eight thousand barrels per day of crude inflow.
- 7:21Here's the problem, and it's interpretation, not a number.
- 7:25Hundred dollar WTI doesn't reach inland barrels.
- 7:29Express is landing two hundred eighty thousand barrels per day of Canadian crude at
- 7:33a twenty five fifty discount into Casper, right above Gernzee.
- 7:37The seventeen million barrel SPR exchange serves Gulf refiners on the water,
- 7:41which blunts coastal pull on inland crude.
- 7:45Midwest refiners are in turnaround and southbound pipes are prorationed.
- 7:49So pipeline arbitrage isn't your edge.
- 7:52The value sits in basin tankage margin and quality blending at Gernzee,
- 7:56where cheap Canadian barrels meet domestic sweet streams.
- 8:00That's the brief.
- 8:01Good luck on the call.
