- 0:28Speaker 1: I'm really excited to have you. I thought for a
- 0:30Speaker 1: second I wasn't gonna get you.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Oh really, yeah, because it went.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I was texting and then went silent, and then it
- 0:35Speaker 1: said notification silenced.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I don't know silence.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I don't even know it's I did that. My stuff
- 0:42Speaker 3: hits my pocket. I go, oh, you did this too.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I don't know why is my phone unanswering? It's yeah, but.
- 0:48Speaker 1: It made my day to see Yo. And I said,
- 0:51Speaker 1: oh my god.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah. I was like yo, and I got off
- 0:56Speaker 2: the plane. I came straight here from the airport.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Really okay, okays me feel better. You're gonna cook a
- 1:02Speaker 1: good dish. What are you gonna have me eating today?
- 1:04Speaker 3: Real simple, poor man's poor woman's food, black beans, chicken, rice, plantains. Yeah,
- 1:11Speaker 3: that's always it's poor people's food, man. But being Nigeria,
- 1:14Speaker 3: and that's come on to go to you be a Jamaican,
- 1:16Speaker 3: go to rice beans.
- 1:18Speaker 2: We know all that rice. Yeah, rice su beers and
- 1:22Speaker 2: it's the full meal and it's healthy.
- 1:23Speaker 1: It's healthy. That's why the only thing you're missing is
- 1:26Speaker 1: some kind of vegetable.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Oh, green beans would have been cooled, like green beans
- 1:30Speaker 3: and peasco I would have had simple you can boil
- 1:33Speaker 3: them cool.
- 1:34Speaker 1: But our producer back there, Jared, was asking, He was like,
- 1:36Speaker 1: how much does a meal like this cost? And I
- 1:38Speaker 1: was like, honestly, this is the great thing about this
- 1:41Speaker 1: dish is just for anyone curious how that this dish
- 1:44Speaker 1: runs ten dollars. Just about it, like twelve dollars, twelve dollars.
- 1:48Speaker 3: And depending on the type of chicken you get. If
- 1:50Speaker 3: it's quality chicken, you're trying.
- 1:51Speaker 2: To get that.
- 1:52Speaker 1: But if you're and you're struggling, twelve dollars and.
- 1:54Speaker 3: You make a bunch of it and you can save
- 1:56Speaker 3: it for a couple of days. You like a pot
- 1:58Speaker 3: of stuff, then like we would do it in my house,
- 2:00Speaker 3: my parents do it. You make a pot of stuff,
- 2:02Speaker 3: put it in refrigerator, takes them out to eat it.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Boom, that's it.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's twelve twelve dollars, and I'd say it's
- 2:08Speaker 1: at least four to six servings for twelve bucks. If
- 2:11Speaker 1: you're out there and you're trying to figure out what
- 2:13Speaker 1: to do for dinner, black beans, chicken, plantains, and your combination.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Every once in a while you get a little burger
- 2:19Speaker 2: from Wendy. Everyone around you have those little cheap little combos.
- 2:23Speaker 2: You gotta you gotta combine, a little hump, a little
- 2:26Speaker 2: survival tool. Right there, I'll get a little outside food.
- 2:29Speaker 2: You eat it said, whatever you gotta do.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Man, So what are you seasoning all your chicken with?
- 2:35Speaker 2: Oh? Man, I just use basic like salt, garlic. You got,
- 2:39Speaker 2: you got garlic, salt. That's good.
- 2:40Speaker 1: You gonna put oil in that pot? And God told
- 2:44Speaker 1: us that you are only olive oil, right, Yes.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I tried olive oil avocado.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Okay, we have both a grape seed. Yeah, we just
- 2:52Speaker 1: discovered grape seed on this shows.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Oh really, yeah, I been.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I thought it had some hidden he elemented the guest.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Coadles best as far as heat heating, you know, olive oil,
- 3:04Speaker 3: it's not bad, but alvocados is like the best.
- 3:07Speaker 2: But I'll use those.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Three crying if you're crying.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Cocon and oil, olive oil, avocado, But coconut and grape seed.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Those are the ones for like frying and stuff. That's
- 3:18Speaker 2: what I do. But I don't deep fry.
- 3:21Speaker 3: It's like a salt tape. Now I do a thing
- 3:23Speaker 3: where it's fry a little bit boil. It's like I'll
- 3:26Speaker 3: pour water to combine it and it works.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Yeah, man, I got Well you do it over and over,
- 3:32Speaker 2: you start fighting rays.
- 3:33Speaker 3: This is a little better. I don't want to fry
- 3:35Speaker 3: it too hard. Like in between, I'll throw some water.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Boil and water don't mix. But yeah, you can put
- 3:41Speaker 3: a top over.
- 3:42Speaker 2: It works. Yeah, but the water a little bit a
- 3:47Speaker 2: little bit. Yeah goo, Wait what is this one? Let
- 3:51Speaker 2: me make sure I get to turn this so on
- 3:53Speaker 2: turn all right? All right, all right, all right?
- 3:57Speaker 1: So is this a childhood dish?
- 4:00Speaker 2: Chop?
- 4:02Speaker 1: Childhood I'm saying, like, is this something that your parents made?
- 4:05Speaker 1: Growing up?
- 4:05Speaker 3: My parents made Nigerians so we had food food, We
- 4:08Speaker 3: had gari, we had ebba, we had all we had.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Not Nigerian food was the major thing. We had jel
- 4:14Speaker 3: off rice, moi moi chin just all. My mother could
- 4:18Speaker 3: burn all Nigerian West Africans. But then we had American
- 4:22Speaker 3: food like swedeti and regular stuff. But Nigerian food was
- 4:26Speaker 3: the main thing a goosey, okra soup, pepper soup.
- 4:30Speaker 2: It was all and yeah it's great, so it slide me,
- 4:33Speaker 2: but it's amazing.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's a very But now Nigerian food is
- 4:37Speaker 3: popular now and people know about okra. A goosy is
- 4:41Speaker 3: my favorite. Goosey is like a mixture of spinach and
- 4:45Speaker 3: melon seeds.
- 4:46Speaker 2: It's like a soup, but it's my favorite. Man.
- 4:50Speaker 3: They have a place out here Aduka over there not
- 4:53Speaker 3: too far from the airport, a Duka's Nigerian cuisine.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Fans we.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna try that.
- 5:01Speaker 3: I think it's a duke of Nigerian cuisine. It's she
- 5:03Speaker 3: Her stuff is fantastic.
- 5:05Speaker 1: But what's the name of the sup again?
- 5:07Speaker 3: A gusy e g u s i ay And you
- 5:11Speaker 3: all know jel off because you have Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal.
- 5:15Speaker 2: They're all battling and who has the best jel Off rice?
- 5:18Speaker 3: I eat all of them? Senegal got I think Senagal
- 5:21Speaker 3: is the original. I think Senegalese food is unreal. It's
- 5:26Speaker 3: tebu gen tibi yap if they got fish and this
- 5:29Speaker 3: lamb debu yap and their jelly rice is fire.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Like really, Oh yeah, food making me hungry. Yeah, it's
- 5:37Speaker 2: good stuffs.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And then we couldn't get you to cook ment of
- 5:40Speaker 1: that for us. Okay, shout out to God for again.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Now I said, you could have cooked any of this
- 5:45Speaker 1: for us today.
- 5:47Speaker 2: You know what Nigeria food. It takes a lot. There's
- 5:51Speaker 2: a lot of ingredients.
- 5:52Speaker 3: My mother would cook all day and and the problem is,
- 5:55Speaker 3: like I never my me and my brother never got
- 5:58Speaker 3: to go to the kitchen and cook because my parent
- 6:00Speaker 3: fathers like man doesn't come in and kidchen women do.
- 6:03Speaker 2: It's very chuvelistic ship.
- 6:05Speaker 3: And then when I got when on my own, my
- 6:08Speaker 3: father was like you know how to make stuff? I go,
- 6:09Speaker 3: you didn't let us in the kitchen. How am I
- 6:12Speaker 3: supposed to know how to make the Nigerian food? And
- 6:14Speaker 3: it's a process. Yeah, it's a process man.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Some stuff.
- 6:17Speaker 3: There's a thing called puff puff right like fried dough
- 6:20Speaker 3: almost like I think I've seen it. Puff uff is
- 6:23Speaker 3: Nigerian like Zeppel's. Italians have something similar. That's why we're
- 6:26Speaker 3: all so related. When ever you see cuisine pop up,
- 6:29Speaker 3: you go, wow, they eat that too, right, puff up?
- 6:32Speaker 2: But it takes a day. It's like a dough, a yeast.
- 6:34Speaker 2: You got to put in a refrigerator and wait a
- 6:36Speaker 2: whole twenty four hours. So my mother do all kinds
- 6:39Speaker 2: of news.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I've seen it online, like where they like roll it
- 6:42Speaker 1: in the soup or whatever.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Oh that's that's that would be. Yeah, have you tried?
- 6:46Speaker 1: That is a good?
- 6:47Speaker 2: Yeah, all that food is, That's what I cream up with.
- 6:49Speaker 1: That's really I'm just wondering about that texture. That really. Yeah,
- 6:54Speaker 1: I had to go to a Nigerian restaurant with you.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Yeah, you should know a word.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I feel like it would be fun.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it's good stuff, man, I love all that stuff.
- 7:04Speaker 3: And being Nigerian first a generation, just always eating foreign
- 7:09Speaker 3: food was just always normal to me. Growing up in Chicago.
- 7:15Speaker 3: I lived in an area where everybody was immigrants. But
- 7:17Speaker 3: even though Chicago's the most segregated city in the country,
- 7:19Speaker 3: still all my friends were like Vietnamese, Cambodian, Filipino, Nigerian, Ethiopian, Polish, Russian.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yugoslavia when it was Yugoslavia.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Haitian, jew, Jewish, Ashkenazi, Ethiopian Jew.
- 7:34Speaker 2: So everybody was foreign. Everybody had that's all we ate.
- 7:40Speaker 3: My next door from Cambodia, so I was eating food
- 7:43Speaker 3: from Cambodia, layouts and Vietnam.
- 7:45Speaker 2: So these are my friends fresh off the boat.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Yeah yeah.
- 7:48Speaker 2: And then you had American food, but we had our.
- 7:53Speaker 1: When you ate the American food didn't even come close
- 7:55Speaker 1: to comparing.
- 7:56Speaker 2: It was good. We liked it too. It was just
- 7:58Speaker 2: two different types of We loved hot dogs. We ate
- 8:02Speaker 2: hot dogs and amberg. We loved all that. But then
- 8:05Speaker 2: we loved our food tea.
- 8:06Speaker 3: We would throw down on our stews and our oxtails
- 8:10Speaker 3: and our fish and our yeah man and tripe and
- 8:15Speaker 3: the tripe, and it's like Jamaican food, you're Jamaican.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I love Caribbean.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Fred I'm an oxtail what No, you can't oxtail jerk chicken.
- 8:25Speaker 1: K But I'm also a snob because I don't think
- 8:27Speaker 1: everyone makes it.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Of course, now, my mother was so good, and we
- 8:32Speaker 3: were very snobby about other Nigerian because we were like,
- 8:35Speaker 3: that's not as good as my mom's.
- 8:37Speaker 1: And I was just about to ask you do you
- 8:38Speaker 1: think it's because it's our mom's conditions. Jamaican is so
- 8:44Speaker 1: good that every restaurant I go to, I'm like, eh no.
- 8:47Speaker 3: I have a friend whose mom couldn't cook for ship
- 8:50Speaker 3: and she heard it was trash. My mom was dope
- 8:53Speaker 3: because we would taste other people to go nah man,
- 8:56Speaker 3: and people would come over our house.
- 8:58Speaker 2: They knew my mom was making stuff like hell.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's how I am. One of my homegirls
- 9:04Speaker 1: are aunt cooks like that. And anytime it's a holiday,
- 9:07Speaker 1: you already know. I'm pulling up, save me a plate.
- 9:10Speaker 1: But you got to get there fast because that food
- 9:12Speaker 1: run out.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Oh yeah, whoa, this is popping?
- 9:14Speaker 1: Is the second is done? It's gone?
- 9:16Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 9:17Speaker 1: But take me back to what was going on in
- 9:19Speaker 1: the era of beans rice and chicken beans rice. What
- 9:24Speaker 1: you're making us today?
- 9:26Speaker 2: When I was coming up, yeah, take me bad.
- 9:29Speaker 1: So when were you making this dish to survive?
- 9:33Speaker 2: Oh? Man?
- 9:33Speaker 3: When I was doing comedy, Man, when you're living on
- 9:36Speaker 3: your own. When I started living on my own in Chicago,
- 9:39Speaker 3: when I after college, I was like getting into comedy
- 9:42Speaker 3: and stuff. And then I got I got up. I
- 9:45Speaker 3: booked a commercial, like a McDonald's commercial, and then I
- 9:48Speaker 3: got all this money. I was like, I can move
- 9:50Speaker 3: out now. My father's good. You can find your own spot.
- 9:54Speaker 3: And then I know, and of course they supplied me
- 9:56Speaker 3: with silverware and pots and bands and shiit.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Anything you need? Yeah?
- 10:01Speaker 3: Yeah, And then I started, Okay, what do I think
- 10:04Speaker 3: I know I could make? I don't know how to
- 10:06Speaker 3: make Nigerian food. Yeah, I'll just go get it from
- 10:07Speaker 3: my mother and bring it to the crisis.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Smart. How far did you move from them?
- 10:10Speaker 2: Oh man? About twenty minutes away? Oh yeah, good because
- 10:14Speaker 2: I had a little I had a little studio. Okay,
- 10:17Speaker 2: but it was nice to be on my own.
- 10:18Speaker 1: And how old are you at this time?
- 10:20Speaker 2: I'm like twenty two or something.
- 10:23Speaker 3: And my my father was like, it's good that you
- 10:25Speaker 3: live on your own. That's good because your mother wants
- 10:27Speaker 3: you to stay forever. Yeah, and because moms always wanted
- 10:30Speaker 3: to want their kids.
- 10:31Speaker 2: And my father said, I'm telling you, I mean, you
- 10:33Speaker 2: live on your own, You're gonna see the difference. And
- 10:36Speaker 2: he was like, I was like, he was right. He goes,
- 10:38Speaker 2: you're gonna want to be able to come in and
- 10:40Speaker 2: go in as you want. Yeah, you don't want your
- 10:42Speaker 2: mother to wait? Where are you in this office? Yeah?
- 10:44Speaker 2: So it was smart.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Yeah, Pops was right.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Pops was He ain't never been wrong. He was never wrong.
- 10:51Speaker 2: My father was never wrong. Even though I pissed you off.
- 10:54Speaker 2: When you're telling you.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Like what and then you're like, damn, he was right, yeah,
- 10:58Speaker 3: and he says I lived the life too.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I was a kid too. You're talking about it. I'm
- 11:02Speaker 2: not lying. I'm gonna lie to you. You know what
- 11:04Speaker 2: I'm saying. I don't know.
- 11:05Speaker 1: So you're in your apartment and you're cooking this chicken.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Rice and beans, vegetables because I want to feel healthy.
- 11:12Speaker 1: And where are you calling your mom back?
- 11:14Speaker 2: Hey?
- 11:14Speaker 3: Mom?
- 11:14Speaker 1: How do I do this?
- 11:15Speaker 2: Not really because I was getting it. And then you
- 11:19Speaker 2: start some women you bring over, they know how to
- 11:22Speaker 2: do shit. They go, now you do this that that.
- 11:24Speaker 2: I'm like, cool, Yeah, I handle that.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Oh you're like, yeah, I started the heat.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Now you just take care of the rest of that,
- 11:31Speaker 2: you know what I mean.
- 11:32Speaker 3: And then beans, I'll take kidney beans, black beans, what
- 11:36Speaker 3: was the other? The pento beans? That's always easy, that's feeling.
- 11:39Speaker 3: You just get the starches in the.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and then I knew how to do the plantains. Well.
- 11:44Speaker 1: When I first asked you, it was looking rough. You
- 11:45Speaker 1: were like ramen some chicken.
- 11:47Speaker 3: But I remember having in college because I didn't know
- 11:50Speaker 3: what spirit he meant, broke broke in career wise.
- 11:53Speaker 2: But yeah, college was Robin and the funny because Robin
- 11:58Speaker 2: had three flavors, but it was all tastes the same.
- 12:00Speaker 2: It's disgusting. It was disgusting that little pat Do.
- 12:05Speaker 1: You want to know something I learned on eating while broke.
- 12:07Speaker 1: There's different romans.
- 12:10Speaker 2: What do you mean?
- 12:10Speaker 3: There's the company we had that was the wrong at
- 12:12Speaker 3: the top as.
- 12:14Speaker 1: A bullshit, but they got the Thai ramen and let
- 12:19Speaker 1: me tell you something, the other ones.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Way better, way better. Wha. But we did. We were
- 12:24Speaker 2: exposed to that. You wait, there's ten robins for a dollar.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Yeah none, yeah, and you doctor it up your own way.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Doctor it up like you right there, sprinkle show and
- 12:38Speaker 3: then the worst after taste. It was the worst after
- 12:42Speaker 3: taste you think so disgusting. It was disgusting, but that
- 12:46Speaker 3: got us through. We survived with that. And then in college.
- 12:51Speaker 3: I went away for college.
- 12:52Speaker 2: So we would go to a cafe.
- 12:55Speaker 3: There was a cafe we all hang out in like
- 12:57Speaker 3: different world. Yeah, they we had something orange and so
- 13:01Speaker 3: we come there and my buddies worked at the cafe,
- 13:05Speaker 3: so they'd be like, yo, my shift is at this time,
- 13:07Speaker 3: So yo, you're going if you all you do is
- 13:10Speaker 3: spend like five dollars, but I'm gonna give.
- 13:12Speaker 2: You more than that. Make sure you get my stuff
- 13:15Speaker 2: and then we'll meet at the door and later. So
- 13:17Speaker 2: we was we was trying to beat the system.
- 13:20Speaker 3: I like getting burgers, mad juices, I like that waters, sodas,
- 13:25Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, Extra fries, extra. So it
- 13:28Speaker 3: was a combination of ramen at the crib that nasty
- 13:31Speaker 3: ass cafeteria food because we survived off of that because
- 13:34Speaker 3: the cafeteria food was true rash. You're like at a
- 13:39Speaker 3: big university like this, and we would make our rice Chrispies,
- 13:42Speaker 3: our own little homemade rice Chrispy joints. You just get
- 13:45Speaker 3: the marshmallows, put the right put it in the microwave,
- 13:48Speaker 3: and we all just got eat it up.
- 13:50Speaker 2: The It's amazing how you survived it.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Yes, Now, did you know when you were in college
- 13:55Speaker 1: that you wanted to pursue comedy?
- 13:57Speaker 3: Third year Tommy Davidson came to my college and we
- 14:01Speaker 3: showed he we showed him around campus and all that,
- 14:03Speaker 3: and when he performed, I was thinking about du I
- 14:05Speaker 3: was like, I think I want to do that. I
- 14:07Speaker 3: think that's what I want to do. And the girl
- 14:09Speaker 3: I was dating at the time, she was like, yeah,
- 14:12Speaker 3: you should do it. You always holding court in the cafeteria.
- 14:15Speaker 3: You're funny as hell. And not funny because just funny
- 14:17Speaker 3: because my friends were funny too. It was because I
- 14:19Speaker 3: was very militant in college. Yeah, I was very pro black,
- 14:23Speaker 3: very African American studies. We started a group to the
- 14:27Speaker 3: chagrin of the president of the university, Stan Ikenberry, racist bastard.
- 14:32Speaker 3: We started a group where we wanted to learn about
- 14:36Speaker 3: pre slavery and post slavery.
- 14:38Speaker 2: We wanted to learn about us. And we started a book.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Club on our own, and we were able to bring
- 14:44Speaker 3: in speakers, Native American speakers and Latin speakers, historians Africanism
- 14:50Speaker 3: to teach us stuff. And so I became that dude
- 14:53Speaker 3: like militant, like school days like it was militancy. And
- 14:57Speaker 3: then we're and then at the time, you're listening to
- 15:00Speaker 3: hip hop KRS one, Public Enemy, you listen to Brand New,
- 15:03Speaker 3: but you're listening to Day You listening to a conscious
- 15:05Speaker 3: rap Queen Latifa was a conscious rapper, but he listened.
- 15:08Speaker 3: So we was militant, so I could I was able
- 15:11Speaker 3: to be funny talking about racism, talking about Oh yeah,
- 15:15Speaker 3: I was dope with it.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I would talk like that.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Imagine Malcolm X as a comedian, like if he was
- 15:20Speaker 3: just you know how sometimes they can be really funny.
- 15:23Speaker 2: But I'm yeah, I was like that.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I wasn't as like serious, but I was like silly
- 15:28Speaker 3: with it, but I was talking about real shit.
- 15:30Speaker 1: And that's why she was like, this is definitely because I.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Remember my friend. She the girl like Dais her name was.
- 15:35Speaker 3: She was a rebound check from my other girl that
- 15:37Speaker 3: was on campus. But she was like she wrote one that.
- 15:39Speaker 3: She wrote down everything on a yellow legal pad. I
- 15:43Speaker 3: was just talking and she goes, I wrote down most
- 15:45Speaker 3: of the shit that you were so funny.
- 15:47Speaker 2: I wrote it down. We woke up. I said, what
- 15:49Speaker 2: the hell is all this this shit? You said yesterday?
- 15:51Speaker 2: Can you want to be a comedian? And now on
- 15:53Speaker 2: Club Shaysha, I brought her name. Her name was Toya
- 15:56Speaker 2: Dixon and I brought her name up and.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Her she was like, Yo, everybody's calling me, say you
- 16:00Speaker 3: brought my name up on club ship because you it's
- 16:03Speaker 3: the truth. Wow, you wrote that thing. And I said,
- 16:06Speaker 3: all right, when I get back to Chicago. I went
- 16:08Speaker 3: to the University of Illinois.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Yeah, so when.
- 16:10Speaker 3: I get back to Chicago. I'm gonna go for open mics.
- 16:13Speaker 3: And that's how that shit started.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Now did you take the material that she had written down?
- 16:18Speaker 3: And I don't even remember where it was, but I said,
- 16:22Speaker 3: I'm going to start doing comedy. And I started in
- 16:26Speaker 3: a comedy team with another guy for a year, and
- 16:29Speaker 3: then from there I did. I wasn't really digging that
- 16:32Speaker 3: because he wasn't as passionate as.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I well, and I was gonna say, what's a comedy team?
- 16:36Speaker 2: Team? You're doing sketches, Like yeah, I was right, this.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Is this is but this was before sketches was a thing.
- 16:41Speaker 2: No sketches have been around before me.
- 16:43Speaker 1: What I'm saying, you were doing it stand, but you
- 16:45Speaker 1: were doing it in the stage.
- 16:46Speaker 2: We do that.
- 16:47Speaker 3: We'd have my sketches like okay, and it was cool man,
- 16:50Speaker 3: and we had little costumes and dumb ship like that.
- 16:54Speaker 2: And then after that I was like this. I was
- 16:56Speaker 2: disgruntled about it because he wasn't as passionate as I was.
- 16:59Speaker 2: You have to be insane.
- 17:00Speaker 3: And I remember talking to Steve Harvey at this club
- 17:03Speaker 3: in Chicago called All Jokes Aside, and I was in
- 17:07Speaker 3: the hallway kind of pissing it.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Steve was like asking meuse, like, why what's up?
- 17:10Speaker 3: I was like, yo, I'm tired of Steve's not as
- 17:12Speaker 3: passionate as I am, he seems like.
- 17:14Speaker 2: And he goes, how much you're getting paid for it?
- 17:16Speaker 2: I said, we're getting like a hundred bucks.
- 17:18Speaker 3: And he goes, are you tired of? Are you tired
- 17:19Speaker 3: of splitting that ship? I remember he goes, cut his
- 17:22Speaker 3: ass and he just walked away that Steve Harvey said,
- 17:25Speaker 3: cut his ass.
- 17:27Speaker 2: I remember that ship.
- 17:28Speaker 3: And then at the time to Steve was Steve was
- 17:31Speaker 3: a headliner, Steve from County for a long ass time.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Like Steve was like a big dog, like as far
- 17:38Speaker 3: as the comedy scene, not super famous, but he was
- 17:41Speaker 3: a big dog.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Me.
- 17:42Speaker 3: I was just starting I wasn't even doing solo shit yet.
- 17:46Speaker 2: So he told me cut him you should you say
- 17:49Speaker 2: you got.
- 17:49Speaker 3: The skills, man, And so that's when I started doing
- 17:52Speaker 3: the solo shit. Wow.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Now did you have to meditate on it for a
- 17:56Speaker 1: minute or did you just know?
- 17:58Speaker 3: The next week, I was already because I was already
- 18:00Speaker 3: writing shit on the side.
- 18:01Speaker 2: In case this goes, no good goes left.
- 18:04Speaker 3: I'm going to start doing stuff on my own. So
- 18:07Speaker 3: I started doing open mics by myself.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Okay, Now, did you ever have a moment within that
- 18:11Speaker 1: window of I don't know if this is for me?
- 18:13Speaker 1: Did you ever a bomb or?
- 18:15Speaker 3: As soon as I hit I was like, yeah, I'm
- 18:18Speaker 3: doing this.
- 18:18Speaker 2: I don't care if you no bombing comes with it. Yeah,
- 18:21Speaker 2: but I know what I want to do. Yeah, you
- 18:24Speaker 2: know it? Yeah, yeah, I'm doing this.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Once you got a taste, I was like, oh.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Yeah, because I'm like, how I need I want to
- 18:29Speaker 2: be able to talk shit?
- 18:30Speaker 1: Now, how do your parents perceive this at the time? Yeah,
- 18:35Speaker 1: I'm really I thought you were going to.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Do psychiatry school. You're a pre met psych major.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I thought you gonna pre med psychic comic. Oh my goodness.
- 18:43Speaker 3: I don't think it's not a big stretch because a
- 18:45Speaker 3: lot of comedians were astrophysicists, lawyers, doctors.
- 18:49Speaker 2: A lot of people were like real professional.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:52Speaker 2: I had another buddy.
- 18:53Speaker 3: He's passed, But Greg Giraldo was a fantastic comedian.
- 18:56Speaker 2: His son does comedy in New York now, Greg Giraldo Junior.
- 18:59Speaker 2: But he was amazing. He was a Harvard lawyer.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Wow, and then he'd gotten a comedy. So there's film majors.
- 19:07Speaker 3: There's a lot of people have degrees in comedy.
- 19:09Speaker 1: But from a parental perspective, parents.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Were like, no, make sure you have something to fall
- 19:15Speaker 3: back on. I go, I'm falling back on this.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I love that.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Okay, but my father, that's cool, but make sure you
- 19:20Speaker 2: finish your studies.
- 19:22Speaker 1: And did you finish.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Yeah, psychology degree.
- 19:25Speaker 3: And I think I've learned more about psychology living in
- 19:28Speaker 3: New York than any You don't need to go to
- 19:31Speaker 3: any psych ward or anything.
- 19:33Speaker 2: You just live in New York and a big psych
- 19:36Speaker 2: war and just.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Doing comedy is so Psycholog's so many psychological things in
- 19:40Speaker 3: comedy on why people laugh. I even had a book
- 19:43Speaker 3: about Freud and the Jokes in the Subconscious, which is
- 19:46Speaker 3: a little weird of a read. But I there's reasons
- 19:50Speaker 3: why people laugh. There's nostalgia, there's pain, there's there's relation,
- 19:53Speaker 3: there's all.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Kinds of shit. Oh.
- 19:57Speaker 1: I used to always I used always think it was
- 19:59Speaker 1: just like if someone can relate my favorite comics or
- 20:02Speaker 1: the comics that I can relate to. So I always
- 20:03Speaker 1: say my my toxic comics, like you're bil Bird, I'm
- 20:07Speaker 1: gonna call them Bilberd Sebastian like anyone that has the
- 20:10Speaker 1: toxic childhood. I'm like, those are my favorites, you know.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Yeah, if you can relate to them, it's great.
- 20:15Speaker 1: So I just assumed it was relatability.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Relate. First of all, you're gonna be who you are.
- 20:20Speaker 2: If someone doesn't get you, they don't get you. You can't.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Just as people, we don't get along with everybody. Some
- 20:26Speaker 2: people we click with, some people, some people we just don't.
- 20:29Speaker 2: That's the same thing with comedy.
- 20:30Speaker 3: It's like, some people ain't gonna fuck with you because
- 20:32Speaker 3: you say things they don't like.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Oh bye.
- 20:35Speaker 3: But that's the thing about comedy. Go find someone else. Yeah,
- 20:38Speaker 3: check the schedule. There's a whole bunch of other comedians.
- 20:42Speaker 3: But if you're gonna come in my show.
- 20:44Speaker 2: And then open your mouth because you don't like something,
- 20:46Speaker 2: you're gonna get smoked. Yeah, you're gonna.
- 20:48Speaker 3: I'm gonna dust you off real quick. My thing is,
- 20:51Speaker 3: you don't have to laugh, you just sit there and go.
- 20:54Speaker 2: You don't have to I don't give off funk if
- 20:56Speaker 2: you don't laugh.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Wow, Because how long did it take for you to
- 20:59Speaker 1: get to that point?
- 21:01Speaker 3: About when I got to I was in New York
- 21:04Speaker 3: in Chicago two three, years. Then I moved to New York.
- 21:06Speaker 3: That's when I think, yeah, five six years in. When
- 21:11Speaker 3: you go New York is a different attitude because it's
- 21:14Speaker 3: like you're around really dope, because I was around Chappelle, Seinfeld,
- 21:18Speaker 3: Gray Ramone and Bill.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Me and Bill came up, Bill Burr me Bill.
- 21:21Speaker 3: When Bill had hair red hair, I was, that's how
- 21:25Speaker 3: long I've known Bill red hair because me Bill, it was,
- 21:29Speaker 3: it was Robert Kelly, Keith Robinson. It was a lot
- 21:31Speaker 3: of us there, just a big group of us. Tracy Morgan,
- 21:35Speaker 3: we can keep going, Jimmy, I think.
- 21:37Speaker 1: New York comics when I go to LA. Not talking
- 21:40Speaker 1: smack about LA, but New York and LA are uncrible comparable.
- 21:45Speaker 2: New York's Landslide. New York is I'm sorry, we dusted off.
- 21:49Speaker 1: I think it's because you guys get more reps.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Of course it is, And.
- 21:52Speaker 1: I think I think that it also helps that New
- 21:56Speaker 1: York cheats comics better than LA.
- 21:58Speaker 3: I think that I think it's the international thing too,
- 22:02Speaker 3: because in every almost every show there's we're from Scotland,
- 22:06Speaker 3: We're from Ireland, We're from the Netherlands. We're from Sweden,
- 22:09Speaker 3: we're from Norway, we're from Germany where I had Yester
- 22:14Speaker 3: the other Italic we're from Italy.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Oh my god, you have to come to It's always international, Canada, Australia.
- 22:23Speaker 3: It never failed, and it's always like that. You get
- 22:26Speaker 3: foreigners all the time and they like honesty. H the UK,
- 22:30Speaker 3: they go man. But it's the American ones that be bitching.
- 22:36Speaker 3: It's always, and it's mainly white women. They're always fucking
- 22:39Speaker 3: up comedy. They fuck comedy up. And this is me
- 22:42Speaker 3: not categorizing on them, but white comics, Latin comics, women comic.
- 22:47Speaker 3: I go, whenever we have a complaint, I said, who
- 22:49Speaker 3: was she white? Yep, it was a white girl. White
- 22:52Speaker 3: girl tears, white girls interrupting. It's usually ninety percent of
- 22:57Speaker 3: the time it's a white woman bitching about what you're saying, complaining.
- 23:01Speaker 1: About the privilege.
- 23:04Speaker 2: It's the privilege and white girl tear bullshit.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Because I had a white girl wanted to fight me
- 23:08Speaker 3: the other day, she I go, She was like, motherfucker.
- 23:12Speaker 3: I go, I don't hit women, so get out of
- 23:15Speaker 3: my face. I get a girl and can fuck you up.
- 23:19Speaker 3: I'll knock you the fuck out, But I don't hit women.
- 23:22Speaker 3: My father didn't hit my mother my father didn't even
- 23:24Speaker 3: raise his voice to my mother. I don't hit women.
- 23:26Speaker 3: I never understand the concept of dudes hitting women. Now,
- 23:29Speaker 3: I only get me wrong.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I want to smack shit out you, but I'm not
- 23:32Speaker 2: gonna do it.
- 23:33Speaker 3: She heckled me and said, wow, you just move on.
- 23:35Speaker 3: I go, no, bitch, you don't tell me to move on.
- 23:38Speaker 3: You shut the fuck up and listen. That's how this goes,
- 23:41Speaker 3: you know, I remember.
- 23:42Speaker 1: So don't they kick him out too?
- 23:44Speaker 2: Sometimes you really got it because the bouncers there. He
- 23:46Speaker 2: can't wait to yoke people up. Big giant African, French
- 23:50Speaker 2: African dude. He'd be like, he'd be like, you have
- 23:52Speaker 2: to go.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Took it too much if you don't listen and her
- 23:55Speaker 3: boyfriend is there letting her talk, because it's like pussy
- 23:59Speaker 3: whip that yo, tell you girl, like if I'm with
- 24:02Speaker 3: a chick, she's not gonna she don't have class.
- 24:04Speaker 2: You're yelling shit out. She doesn't have to like. You
- 24:06Speaker 2: don't have to like us. It's okay, I watch.
- 24:10Speaker 1: But it's a show. You're supposed to be quiet.
- 24:11Speaker 2: I watch shows. I may not like them, but I'm
- 24:13Speaker 2: not gonna go I'm not gonna say nothing.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:16Speaker 2: But and then and it's like.
- 24:18Speaker 3: I always get a lot of women hecklers all the time,
- 24:20Speaker 3: always women always yelling at me.
- 24:22Speaker 2: They just say stuff and I go, Yo, I get it.
- 24:25Speaker 2: My fate is tirer than your boyfriends.
- 24:26Speaker 3: I understand. I get it. You're upset, don't I know
- 24:30Speaker 3: you like me because you're interrupting me. It's too much. Stop,
- 24:33Speaker 3: you know what I mean. My fate is tight. My
- 24:34Speaker 3: sneakers is way doper than his.
- 24:36Speaker 2: I get it. Yeah, I'm in decent shape. I get it.
- 24:39Speaker 1: But you're in great shape.
- 24:41Speaker 3: But when you talk to me, and then when I
- 24:43Speaker 3: burn you, now you're victim. Now now you're victim. But
- 24:46Speaker 3: you I don't see.
- 24:47Speaker 2: First of all, I don't fuck with the audience. I'm
- 24:49Speaker 2: not a crowd dude. I don't. I have ship to say,
- 24:52Speaker 2: and if something naturally happens, I'll address it.
- 24:54Speaker 3: But I have no interest in whether you're dating or fun.
- 24:57Speaker 3: I don't give a fuck.
- 24:58Speaker 2: I got ship to say material. If they had a
- 25:01Speaker 2: fence and the crowd was fifty feet away, I have material.
- 25:05Speaker 2: I don't need to go yo.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't need to do crowd work none that shit.
- 25:09Speaker 2: That's just my style. Yeah, and yeah so, and I'm
- 25:13Speaker 2: not in my as a commedian.
- 25:15Speaker 3: I love edge. I love the edge. I like to
- 25:19Speaker 3: push the envelope. I like my Klan jokes. What would
- 25:21Speaker 3: it be like to be a member of the Klan?
- 25:24Speaker 3: You know, I tried to join. They didn't let me,
- 25:26Speaker 3: and I said, good, I'm testing you. Yeah, because if
- 25:29Speaker 3: you would have let me in, I'd be like you
- 25:30Speaker 3: slipping the h Yeah, you slipping supposed to be about
- 25:32Speaker 3: that white supremacy.
- 25:33Speaker 2: How you're gonna let me in? This bitch? Fuck wrong
- 25:35Speaker 2: with you? You know what I mean? Diversity and shit? Man,
- 25:37Speaker 2: how are you gonna be a clan member and not
- 25:39Speaker 2: stick with your shit?
- 25:40Speaker 3: I love going there because to see white people go
- 25:44Speaker 3: the Klan because I'll say klu kukx.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Klan, I go, people go, wait a minute, oh I go.
- 25:50Speaker 2: We mean awe.
- 25:51Speaker 3: What's so different about a clan member calling us niggers
- 25:55Speaker 3: and say.
- 25:55Speaker 2: You niggers got our neighborhood?
- 25:56Speaker 3: Then you being upset at a black neighbor or being
- 26:00Speaker 3: assive aggressive to a black neighbor. What's the difference? Yeah,
- 26:03Speaker 3: you still are You're the same. You're doing the same thing.
- 26:06Speaker 3: It's like instead of pouring acid in your face in India,
- 26:10Speaker 3: like some of them. Some people in some parts of
- 26:12Speaker 3: India they pour acid in women's faces foods that get rejected,
- 26:16Speaker 3: and that's like going, that's terrible. All we do is
- 26:19Speaker 3: we punch our women in the face in America.
- 26:22Speaker 1: That's no, it's still abuse, it's still abused.
- 26:25Speaker 2: So I like to talk about those things.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Yea, yeah.
- 26:28Speaker 3: I like to talk about spirituality and people going on retreats.
- 26:31Speaker 2: I go, that's your problem. You're always retreating? Yeah, you always?
- 26:35Speaker 2: Who the fuck can't go into the mountains and meditate?
- 26:38Speaker 3: That ain't shit. Now, when you practice your spirituality, how
- 26:42Speaker 3: about when a dude in New York on the train
- 26:44Speaker 3: bumps you by accident, do you elematically call him a
- 26:46Speaker 3: spick or a nigger, a chip or whatever, or do
- 26:49Speaker 3: you go, that's all right, he didn't mean it. That's
- 26:51Speaker 3: when you practice your spirituality, when you can in front
- 26:54Speaker 3: of people, not in the woods.
- 26:55Speaker 2: You paid ayahuashka, you have some shaw men in the wood?
- 27:00Speaker 2: No fuck that. What do you do in New York
- 27:01Speaker 2: on the subway when the motherfucker's screaming at you? How
- 27:04Speaker 2: do you handle it?
- 27:05Speaker 3: So I like to address all those the idiot. What
- 27:08Speaker 3: is it the idiot ship that goes on with human beings.
- 27:12Speaker 1: And the women are still triggered. You don't forget to
- 27:14Speaker 1: turn it on.
- 27:17Speaker 2: I got to help him. But yeah, he said, women
- 27:22Speaker 2: get triggered by me.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Yeah, you said they get triggered. They get triggered, Like
- 27:27Speaker 1: how you cut this planting?
- 27:28Speaker 2: Sorry, you can be on anything, you know, he can
- 27:31Speaker 2: be on anything.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Women get triggered by because I'm not doing my comedy
- 27:35Speaker 3: for women to be I just want you to be
- 27:37Speaker 3: a fan of comedy.
- 27:39Speaker 2: I'm not trying. There's some comics that appease women because
- 27:42Speaker 2: you're saying, I go, I just I'm just being funny.
- 27:45Speaker 2: I don't. I have jokes that are clean, jokes that
- 27:47Speaker 2: are but I don't. I'm not worried about a girl
- 27:49Speaker 2: not liking me because I'm doing what the fuck I want.
- 27:52Speaker 2: I'm a man. Yeah you that means you ain't for me.
- 27:56Speaker 2: I like women fuck with me because I'm a fucking dude.
- 28:00Speaker 3: And if you can't separate that from jokes to my
- 28:03Speaker 3: MEA is eleven and fuck you, yeah out of here.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Because I've had situations where after a show groople girls
- 28:10Speaker 3: they didn't like what I said, and then the dude
- 28:12Speaker 3: that's next to me, the comedy exst to me. They
- 28:14Speaker 3: liked what he said, so they'll be like, we liked you.
- 28:17Speaker 3: I go, that's nice. Bye.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't.
- 28:20Speaker 3: I like when I'm not like sometimes it's okay. That's
- 28:24Speaker 3: why I'm doing the right thing.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Because I knew not everybody's going this one.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Yeah, and if you don't like me, I'm like, what
- 28:30Speaker 3: am I in grade school? I can't come play with
- 28:32Speaker 3: you in the sandbox? Fuck out of here. This is comedy,
- 28:36Speaker 3: this is freedom.
- 28:37Speaker 1: You New York at way.
- 28:39Speaker 2: But yeah, I've been in New York for twenty one.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Years, and now what prompted the move to New York reps.
- 28:44Speaker 3: And just a better quality of I wanted to be
- 28:46Speaker 3: a damn good commut I would say, comedy is.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Going to keep me in the game.
- 28:49Speaker 3: And to me, stand up comedy is like a magical power.
- 28:53Speaker 3: To me, it's magic because to make people laugh you
- 28:56Speaker 3: don't even fucking know, just come in a room and
- 28:58Speaker 3: have them rolling.
- 29:00Speaker 2: That is a level of emotion. It's a level It's.
- 29:03Speaker 3: Like when I make a baby laugh. To me, it's
- 29:05Speaker 3: the greatest shit in the world. To make it an
- 29:07Speaker 3: infant laugh infants. Baby's always looking to laugh, they always
- 29:10Speaker 3: want to be To make a baby laugh to me is.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Just a level of It's the best shit in the world.
- 29:17Speaker 3: A baby's laugh I laughing. It's you wouldn't look at pets.
- 29:21Speaker 3: When dogs get around babies, they do the.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Thing they do stuff. The cats do crazy shit. That's
- 29:27Speaker 2: that's a whole nother spiritual level to me.
- 29:29Speaker 3: To make a baby laugh and the pets, No, they
- 29:32Speaker 3: do silly shit.
- 29:33Speaker 2: And the baby's like cracking up. The dogs running around
- 29:36Speaker 2: in a circle.
- 29:37Speaker 3: Even the dog knows yeah, and you as a human being,
- 29:41Speaker 3: you mad, could fuck you dog for real.
- 29:44Speaker 1: So just to backtrack just a little bit, you said
- 29:47Speaker 1: that early on you had booked a McDonald's commercial. Now
- 29:49Speaker 1: this is before you decided that.
- 29:51Speaker 2: You were going to pursue No, I was in comedy.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Oh you were.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Because the agent I had saw me at a comedy
- 29:56Speaker 3: show and so, hey, man, you're really talented. You can
- 29:59Speaker 3: do voice stuff, and just that you got it, you
- 30:02Speaker 3: should come to my It was a Phoenix Talent some ship.
- 30:05Speaker 3: It was a black agency, and that was the first
- 30:07Speaker 3: time I was auditioning for commercials.
- 30:09Speaker 2: See how I slice it.
- 30:10Speaker 1: My mom would do it like, oh, that's how you
- 30:12Speaker 1: do it. Oh, so I definitely butchered your slic.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Sometimes they cut it. I like it when my mother
- 30:17Speaker 2: would do it like this, like that, like flat.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:21Speaker 3: Yeah, even though these are green ones, this would be
- 30:23Speaker 3: like the thons, like with the Latinos.
- 30:26Speaker 2: When it's green, it's those thorning. Then when it's sweetest,
- 30:28Speaker 2: my dudo.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that's how my mom would do it too.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:33Speaker 3: With the Haitians it's banana. We call it dodo or plantain.
- 30:38Speaker 3: The Caribbeans called it planting. And then if you're in
- 30:42Speaker 3: I'm good. And then if you're in Amsterdam, these people
- 30:46Speaker 3: would look like me and.
- 30:47Speaker 2: You, but they speak Dutch.
- 30:49Speaker 3: It's a Dutch colony. Suronam is a Dutch colony. So
- 30:51Speaker 3: the Dutch people came and fucked everybody, and it's it's right.
- 30:56Speaker 3: It's by South America and Surinamese people are living in
- 31:00Speaker 3: Holland because they slavery and just rape pillaging. So everybody
- 31:05Speaker 3: came out real cool looking. And so the Surinamese they
- 31:08Speaker 3: speak Dutch. They're the black people of.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Holland.
- 31:12Speaker 3: And so I went to a Sernamese restaurant because I
- 31:15Speaker 3: was performing in Amsterdam. No in Holland in twenty eighteen,
- 31:19Speaker 3: but I did Dutch comedy for ten years.
- 31:20Speaker 2: So I was like, So we went to a Cernamese restaurant.
- 31:23Speaker 3: The food was banging, and then I see a big
- 31:27Speaker 3: ass banana come out.
- 31:28Speaker 2: I go, so, y'all.
- 31:30Speaker 3: Eat it too, huh? And I said, what's it called bacabana?
- 31:33Speaker 1: Oh okay, yes, all this are all.
- 31:35Speaker 3: Connected with the banana. That's why I when like Dominicans
- 31:38Speaker 3: and Puerto Ricans be like, I know black, I know black.
- 31:40Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah you are. Why are we? Why are
- 31:43Speaker 2: we eating fried bananas?
- 31:44Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 31:44Speaker 2: I know black, Papa, I know black, I Dominican.
- 31:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm a fuck. Why do you have this in
- 31:48Speaker 3: your dish? Why do Nigerians eat this and Ghanaians eat this?
- 31:52Speaker 3: Why are Trinidadians and Jamaicans eating It's stupid, Maduro Storny.
- 32:00Speaker 1: We got that dodo like that you actually say this
- 32:02Speaker 1: and stuff to them.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I said, look at the big banana, buddy.
- 32:07Speaker 3: If Asians don't eat this unless they're Chinese Jamaicans, the
- 32:11Speaker 3: Chinese Jamaicans eat it because.
- 32:13Speaker 2: The China Chinese have been there since the sixties. And yeah,
- 32:17Speaker 2: they've been in Jamaica since the sixties. Now they're in Nigeria. Now,
- 32:20Speaker 2: Chinese are in Ji. When I was in Nigeria last year,
- 32:23Speaker 2: they're there. They're fixing the infrastructure NIGERI all, it's gonna
- 32:27Speaker 2: be Chinese Jamaicans. There's Chinese. They're gonna be Chinese Chinese Nigeria.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Hey, then then Chinese Jamaica's next.
- 32:34Speaker 2: There's gonna be Jamaican and they're gonna be nice.
- 32:36Speaker 1: And you're the chicken. You're positive, I don't think so.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah, this is great. Cool?
- 32:43Speaker 1: You want off?
- 32:44Speaker 2: All right?
- 32:44Speaker 1: Cool? One dishdown, two dish down.
- 32:46Speaker 2: He has bread, beans and rice.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Yep. The only thing we're waiting on is the plantains.
- 32:54Speaker 2: All right, cool cool cool? Yeah, uh huh okay.
- 32:57Speaker 1: So we're in your story.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Yep.
- 32:59Speaker 1: You get that advice you break up with your partner,
- 33:02Speaker 1: my partner, my partner solo.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Then I moved to New York after about two years.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Moved to New York driving a U haul truck twenty hours,
- 33:10Speaker 3: twenty something hours and U haul truck pack all my
- 33:12Speaker 3: shit and with my friend Bernadette, who was in the
- 33:16Speaker 3: movie Love Jones. If you ever saw Love Jones, you
- 33:19Speaker 3: ever seen Love Jones. Loved Jones with Lorenz Tate who's
- 33:21Speaker 3: also from Chicago. Lorenz and his brothers Lamar, we're all
- 33:25Speaker 3: Chicago people. And my friend Bernadette who was in love Jones,
- 33:28Speaker 3: who I went.
- 33:29Speaker 2: To high school with. She drove with me.
- 33:31Speaker 3: She goes, Hey, I said, I'm going to New York
- 33:33Speaker 3: I'm driving. She goes, you know what, I'll come with you.
- 33:35Speaker 2: And she came with. She's now a director.
- 33:37Speaker 3: She does a lot of really great ship and so
- 33:39Speaker 3: we drove all the way to New York City. And
- 33:42Speaker 3: if you know who Wood Harris is, Yep. Wood Harris
- 33:44Speaker 3: is Chicago.
- 33:45Speaker 1: For some reason, I've had a crush on him since
- 33:46Speaker 1: I was like, that's amazing, isn't that weird? Since I
- 33:49Speaker 1: was a little girl. He was like good, an adult man,
- 33:53Speaker 1: it's a weird.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Thing, right, Yeah, it's like it is what it is.
- 33:56Speaker 1: It is weird though, because it was like a sick
- 33:58Speaker 1: confession a little kid.
- 34:00Speaker 3: He is a Chicago guy like and we used to
- 34:04Speaker 3: go to poetry Slab in Chicago, and I remember when
- 34:06Speaker 3: he got accepted to Tish and Yu and I remember
- 34:10Speaker 3: the street. We were on Kinsey Street, downtown Chicago. He's
- 34:13Speaker 3: outside he goes, Yo, god, man, check it out. I
- 34:16Speaker 3: got accepted to tish Man.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Man, I just got accepted. I said, damn, that's cool.
- 34:21Speaker 2: I said, you know what, I'm moving to New York
- 34:23Speaker 2: next year. I'm planning on doing that. He goes, yeah, man,
- 34:26Speaker 2: I'm leaving a few months.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Man.
- 34:28Speaker 2: So I see you over there, bomb, He's over there.
- 34:30Speaker 2: So I long story short, I'm driving twenty hours. I
- 34:33Speaker 2: get to New York City. Bam.
- 34:35Speaker 3: I'm on sixth Avenue, York, sixth Ave and third Ave
- 34:38Speaker 3: where we perform in the village. And it said the daytime.
- 34:41Speaker 2: So we tired, and.
- 34:43Speaker 3: I see Wood Harris walking right in front of my
- 34:46Speaker 3: truck going to class.
- 34:48Speaker 2: This is a year later. And I hanked my horn
- 34:51Speaker 2: and would I go. He goes, what the fuck? I go, Yo,
- 34:54Speaker 2: I'm here, bro, I'm here. He's going to class. Shit.
- 34:58Speaker 3: And so we keep driving because I'm supposed to my
- 35:00Speaker 3: managers at the time. I got managers. They're telling me
- 35:03Speaker 3: guiding me where I should go. They got we got
- 35:06Speaker 3: you a place.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Oh that was gonna be my next question, like how
- 35:10Speaker 1: are you where are you living?
- 35:11Speaker 3: I'm living at one hundredth in West End because my friend,
- 35:14Speaker 3: this guy t. K. Kirkland, who's a comic who's gonna
- 35:16Speaker 3: be on Club Shasha, and a couple of K T
- 35:18Speaker 3: to the motherfucker K in July.
- 35:19Speaker 2: You'll see them.
- 35:20Speaker 3: He got me my manager because I used to open
- 35:22Speaker 3: up for him in Chicago. He said, you need to
- 35:24Speaker 3: come to New York. I got some good managers. If
- 35:26Speaker 3: anybody knows who Anthony Michael Hall is from Breakfast Club,
- 35:29Speaker 3: the original Breakfast Club, the movie The Little Blonde Kid,
- 35:33Speaker 3: his pops was my manager, his dad, Tom Chista, David Kleingman.
- 35:37Speaker 3: They had John Ley Guizamo, Sandra Bullock, they had Mike Apps,
- 35:41Speaker 3: a whole bunch of people, and I was another added edition.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Wow, that was like, yeah fresh when you first get
- 35:48Speaker 1: into New York.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I have managers.
- 35:50Speaker 3: So then they take me to this apartment complex. It
- 35:52Speaker 3: was as a four bedroom place. It was all theater people.
- 35:56Speaker 3: They said, you're gonna meet somebody. They're gonna meet you
- 35:58Speaker 3: at the door one hundredth in West and so it's
- 36:00Speaker 3: almost it's like nighttime, eight, nine o'clock whatever. We get
- 36:04Speaker 3: to the place and Viola Davis opens the door. She's
- 36:09Speaker 3: at Juilliard. She's at Juilliard at the time, and she goes, hey,
- 36:12Speaker 3: you're God figure. I go, yeah, I'm Viola Davis.
- 36:14Speaker 2: My name is Viola.
- 36:15Speaker 3: I'm at Juilliard right now doing a play called Seven
- 36:18Speaker 3: Guitar Go. I said, oh cool, all right, my bren
- 36:20Speaker 3: is my friend Burna Dad. So he's okay, I'll show
- 36:23Speaker 3: you to your room and stuff, and showed me to
- 36:25Speaker 3: my room and then we're unpacking our shit.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Right. So this dude, I guess he's he's an actor too.
- 36:30Speaker 3: White guy comes out and I'm thinking he must be
- 36:33Speaker 3: the other roommate. So he's asking me like, Hi, you're
- 36:36Speaker 3: the new I said, yeah, from Chicago. So he comes
- 36:39Speaker 3: at me like, so what are you going to be
- 36:41Speaker 3: doing when you're here? Are you going to be like
- 36:43Speaker 3: having women? He's just being real crazy with me, I said,
- 36:47Speaker 3: And I look at Bernadette.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Is he talking to me?
- 36:49Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 36:50Speaker 2: And I said, that's none of your fucking business. How
- 36:53Speaker 2: about that.
- 36:54Speaker 3: You remember, I'm already militant as fuck because in Chicago
- 36:57Speaker 3: I used to go see Minister Farrakhan live when I
- 36:59Speaker 3: was eighteen, and I would go to Savior's Day. So
- 37:01Speaker 3: I'm down with this FOI and the Nation Islam. I'm
- 37:04Speaker 3: not enjoying them. But I'm I go she farakhon live.
- 37:08Speaker 1: I can only imagine what that guy was thinking when
- 37:10Speaker 1: you said so.
- 37:10Speaker 3: I was like, who the fuck are you talking to?
- 37:12Speaker 3: I said, you can't say hi to me, none of that.
- 37:14Speaker 3: I said, Oh, I'm not in the mood for that
- 37:16Speaker 3: white dude shit right now? Racism is like when when
- 37:19Speaker 3: does it end?
- 37:20Speaker 2: Is it all the time?
- 37:21Speaker 3: I was like yeah, I said yeah, man, I said, man,
- 37:23Speaker 3: get the fuck out of my face.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Man. I just told him, I said, Yo, get the
- 37:26Speaker 2: fuck out of my face.
- 37:27Speaker 3: So he goes, I just right to go, my man,
- 37:29Speaker 3: I'm telling you, I don't I'm not in the mood
- 37:31Speaker 3: for this. I don't know who the fuck you talk
- 37:33Speaker 3: to that, but I will get in you. I will
- 37:35Speaker 3: hit you in your jaw. I'm just gonna punch you
- 37:37Speaker 3: right in the mouth. The fuck out of here. And
- 37:39Speaker 3: Viola broke us up. Viola broke us up and then
- 37:42Speaker 3: pulled me to the room. She closed the door.
- 37:44Speaker 2: I can't make this shit. Oh, she closed the door.
- 37:48Speaker 2: She goes, you know what it is.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Right, Viola's always been pro pro black. That's what I
- 37:52Speaker 3: love about her. She's always been that way. She goes
- 37:54Speaker 3: you know what it is, right, I said, yeah, man,
- 37:56Speaker 3: she goes, you come in.
- 37:57Speaker 2: He was. It was me, his girlfriend and him, so
- 38:01Speaker 2: he was the white dude of the rule.
- 38:02Speaker 3: And he goes and here you come, handsome black dude
- 38:04Speaker 3: coming here, and now he's being threatened. I go, I
- 38:07Speaker 3: know that white dude shit. That threatening bullshit, and he
- 38:11Speaker 3: wanted to have everybody. That's what they want. They want
- 38:14Speaker 3: the black girls and all that. They're the dudes that
- 38:17Speaker 3: be like, why is he with Why are you with him?
- 38:19Speaker 3: They actually ask people why are you with us? Want
- 38:22Speaker 3: me to give you a fucking list.
- 38:25Speaker 2: I said, the.
- 38:25Speaker 3: Reason why they with you is because of systematic shit.
- 38:28Speaker 3: That's why they're with you. You ain't got no game. They
- 38:30Speaker 3: ain't got no game. Anytime I see one of us,
- 38:33Speaker 3: go with you because you ain't got no game, or
- 38:34Speaker 3: they're mad at us.
- 38:35Speaker 2: You ain't got no game. Saw trauma bro.
- 38:39Speaker 1: I was telling him that they're mad at us.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Yeah, black women, Yeah, they're mad at us most of
- 38:45Speaker 2: the time percent of time.
- 38:47Speaker 1: I'm t give you that.
- 38:49Speaker 2: I know it. I give you because I know ones
- 38:51Speaker 2: that have admitted it. I know it is fed up.
- 38:53Speaker 1: That's the first thing they said when they get mad.
- 38:55Speaker 1: They'd be like, that's it.
- 38:56Speaker 3: I'm gonna go to the oppressor. That's what I'm gonna
- 38:59Speaker 3: go do. And then he opens up. Then he opens
- 39:02Speaker 3: up and says, calls you a nigga. Now you stuck
- 39:04Speaker 3: because it happened to Halle Berry, who I love to death.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Happened to her.
- 39:07Speaker 3: Her husband called it a n word. But now she
- 39:10Speaker 3: was stuck. Now she's paying this motherfucker eighteen thousand a month.
- 39:13Speaker 3: You talking about So I'm just saying, and Halley's with
- 39:16Speaker 3: Van Hunt.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Now, which is dope as fuck. I love it.
- 39:19Speaker 3: But I'm saying though I'm not saying, listen, I'm not
- 39:22Speaker 3: saying you can't love a person because of who they are.
- 39:25Speaker 3: But a lot of times it's agenda. Nobody talks about
- 39:29Speaker 3: that part. Nobody goes there. They just oh, no, it's luck.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Why can't love me? Like I said, yeah, that's a nice.
- 39:34Speaker 3: Hallmark card, but keep it one hundred because I know
- 39:36Speaker 3: people in relationships that have come.
- 39:39Speaker 2: To me and told me and said, my boyman called
- 39:40Speaker 2: me a nigga.
- 39:41Speaker 3: I said, yeah, of course he did, what you think.
- 39:44Speaker 3: Of course he called you that, and now you're stuck.
- 39:47Speaker 3: Now he called you that because that's how he sees you.
- 39:49Speaker 3: He's not seeing you your humanity. If he never used that,
- 39:53Speaker 3: that means he really loves you. But yeah, you've kissed
- 39:55Speaker 3: him off. That's the true test. That's the true test.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Now you come to me telling me he said that
- 40:00Speaker 2: to you, I go, what are you gonna do? I
- 40:02Speaker 2: noticed shit when Trump was running in twenty twenty. You
- 40:06Speaker 2: know how many people flipped. They were like, I can't
- 40:08Speaker 2: believe my girlfriend.
- 40:10Speaker 3: She's my brother, but I said, you love white women,
- 40:13Speaker 3: and now she flipping on you.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Now she talking at Trump. Shit, what do you think
- 40:17Speaker 2: was gonna happen that? That dynamic is there.
- 40:20Speaker 3: That's why you got to make sure you ask them questions, man,
- 40:24Speaker 3: because a lot of times it's fetish she bullshit, and
- 40:26Speaker 3: they'll play the role just so they can so they
- 40:30Speaker 3: can be.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Horizontal with you. But nobody wants to talk about that.
- 40:33Speaker 1: No, no, it's all facts. So violent pusy into she goes,
- 40:36Speaker 1: you know.
- 40:37Speaker 2: What it is, and boom and from there I was cool.
- 40:39Speaker 3: I stayed there because I had to call my managers
- 40:41Speaker 3: at the time, all of them. I said, Dave, Tom,
- 40:43Speaker 3: I'm about to smack the shit out this dude. Oh
- 40:45Speaker 3: my goodness, and then little old Jewish guys like, don't
- 40:47Speaker 3: do it, God, listen, don't do anything.
- 40:49Speaker 2: We're coming over there, all right out.
- 40:51Speaker 3: And I said, no, man, and Tom is Italian, and
- 40:55Speaker 3: I said, Dave Man. Dave was, when I tell you,
- 40:57Speaker 3: the nicest human being one of the night.
- 41:00Speaker 2: They're all they've passed away ago.
- 41:01Speaker 3: But Dave, little Jewish guy, one of the smartest men
- 41:04Speaker 3: I've ever met in my fucking life. He knew about
- 41:07Speaker 3: the Nigerian civil he knew everything. He was the kindest
- 41:10Speaker 3: man I've ever literally never said anything crazy out of
- 41:15Speaker 3: his mouth. Was never like racially, none aside ship. He
- 41:20Speaker 3: was very honest. Yeah, he never whispered when he said
- 41:24Speaker 3: the word.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Black like that.
- 41:26Speaker 3: He was just very honest and just love it. He's
- 41:28Speaker 3: just a good dude man, seriously a good guy man.
- 41:31Speaker 3: And he cared about people and and yeah, man.
- 41:34Speaker 1: So they talked you off the ledge, Yeah.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Because five minutes in you're you're really coming at me.
- 41:40Speaker 1: And this is a house that you all got to
- 41:42Speaker 1: live in.
- 41:42Speaker 2: Yeah, And he stayed away after that night.
- 41:45Speaker 1: I was like, you know, I'm almost imagining this is
- 41:48Speaker 1: like a house like the real world.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Something like that. But we were gone like I was.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Everybody was doing their own thing.
- 41:53Speaker 3: Was headed to Montreal Comedy for that next two days.
- 41:56Speaker 3: I was gone and Viola was gone. She was doing
- 42:00Speaker 3: and when I.
- 42:01Speaker 2: Read her book.
- 42:01Speaker 3: When I read her book, which is by the way, fabulous,
- 42:04Speaker 3: she wrote it over to COVID her autobiography, there's a
- 42:07Speaker 3: part where she's living in New York and a certain
- 42:12Speaker 3: doing this hurtin plan. I was there at the time,
- 42:14Speaker 3: and I'm reading, I go. I was around and then
- 42:16Speaker 3: I see bio. Like three four years ago, I saw
- 42:19Speaker 3: Viola at the ninety two y there's a ymcre where
- 42:22Speaker 3: they have a stage they have like interviews with celebrities.
- 42:25Speaker 2: So I went and paid my money. My friend told me,
- 42:26Speaker 2: by all, who's going to be at the thing, because
- 42:28Speaker 2: she's an egoch now she has all the different awards.
- 42:31Speaker 2: I said, I'm.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Gonna go, and I'm gonna try to meet her. See
- 42:33Speaker 3: if she remembers me this year's later. And so I
- 42:37Speaker 3: go and then all the security dudes know me.
- 42:39Speaker 2: They're like, yo, man, what's good man? Yo? If you
- 42:41Speaker 2: want to meet her, man, Yo, what got you? I
- 42:43Speaker 2: was like, yeah, I want to meet her.
- 42:45Speaker 3: As soon as I walk in, she goes what's up, roomy?
- 42:48Speaker 3: As soon as I walk in her and her husband.

- 43:00Speaker 1: going to try and oh you use the napkins under.
- 43:02Speaker 2: The forks, because if you've got a paper child.
- 43:06Speaker 1: Yeah, just for now, you're gonna make shift it. Okay,
- 43:09Speaker 1: makeshift it, make shift it right here.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, I just do that, lay it out so
- 43:14Speaker 2: I can it absorbs the oil.
- 43:18Speaker 1: Are you eventually gonna have to eat with me?
- 43:20Speaker 2: Okay? I know, I just want to So what are
- 43:23Speaker 2: you gonna say?
- 43:24Speaker 1: So you didn't think for you? It's just interesting because
- 43:27Speaker 1: when you talk about roomies and stuff, it's like such
- 43:29Speaker 1: a unique it's like a kindred sister brotherhood.
- 43:32Speaker 3: But our business, this business is full of phonies and
- 43:36Speaker 3: people when they do when they get a little bit,
- 43:38Speaker 3: like they say they do a little better than you,
- 43:40Speaker 3: all of a sudden, they don't know you.
- 43:41Speaker 2: All of a sudden, they're not calling you anymore. And
- 43:43Speaker 2: you've been through the trenches with people.
- 43:45Speaker 3: And I didn't even know Violin like that. I didn't
- 43:47Speaker 3: stay that long. There was there a good half a year.
- 43:50Speaker 3: I was there for a little bit. And it's not
- 43:53Speaker 3: like we hung out and ate together.
- 43:55Speaker 2: No, we're roommates.
- 43:57Speaker 3: And the fact that when I walked in, she goes,
- 44:00Speaker 3: what's up, roomy and we started laughing. I got photos
- 44:02Speaker 3: with it, man, it's amazing. I'll show you after she
- 44:06Speaker 3: and I goes, do you remember that fight me? And
- 44:08Speaker 3: she goes, hell, yeah, broken up? She goes, I ended
- 44:12Speaker 3: up fighting that motherfucker too.
- 44:14Speaker 2: No way, yep.
- 44:15Speaker 3: That's funny because he was like his girlfriend and girl
- 44:18Speaker 3: he was dating at that there were four. She was
- 44:20Speaker 3: an alcoholic. I think she had passed away. It was
- 44:22Speaker 3: just a lot of real raggedy shit. So I was
- 44:24Speaker 3: just running into a he was having problems with his chick.
- 44:27Speaker 2: He was taking it out on It was just I
- 44:29Speaker 2: didn't know. But I was just like, who's this.
- 44:32Speaker 3: Guy talking to I'm like, fucking yeah. So I was
- 44:35Speaker 3: like one of those dudes. And I was like militant too.
- 44:38Speaker 3: I'm like and I'm still like that, but I'm not
- 44:42Speaker 3: even my white friends go, I understand, I said, pro
- 44:45Speaker 3: black don't mean anti white, brother, pro white means anti black. Yeah,
- 44:48Speaker 3: I said, I'm not anti white bro. I'm just proud
- 44:51Speaker 3: of what I am. I'm proud of what the fuck
- 44:53Speaker 3: I look like. I'm proud of our ship because we're dope.
- 44:57Speaker 3: You know how I know because you copy us, your
- 44:59Speaker 3: copy us. Every step you can't live without black people.
- 45:04Speaker 3: Every TikTok is copying us. You either pop, locking, your
- 45:08Speaker 3: DJ and your fucking d Everything the lexicon changes because
- 45:12Speaker 3: of us. Oh that was lit, that's us, that was this,
- 45:15Speaker 3: that was dope, that's us. Your handshakes as us.
- 45:18Speaker 2: We bring you in and go, whoa, what up? Man?
- 45:20Speaker 2: What's good man? You do the same shit as we do.
- 45:22Speaker 2: You copy us, and then you get mad when we
- 45:24Speaker 2: ask you where the origin is? The origin is us?
- 45:27Speaker 2: Now you go, why does it got to be about?
- 45:29Speaker 2: What do you mean? What does it gotta be about?
- 45:30Speaker 3: It is about that because you don't see us as
- 45:33Speaker 3: human beings. You see us as some fucking amusement park.
- 45:36Speaker 3: You were like a Niggaville to you. And we get
- 45:40Speaker 3: on a ride because we're like a ride to you.
- 45:43Speaker 2: I'm being like, we're like fun to you. Hey. But
- 45:45Speaker 2: then when we ask for humanity.
- 45:46Speaker 3: Now, oh no, Now you guys just want to so
- 45:50Speaker 3: you just want product from us, and we can't receive humanity.
- 45:54Speaker 2: We're asking for humanity. You're making billions.
- 45:57Speaker 3: Off of black culture. You want to talk about basketball
- 45:59Speaker 3: for but you want to talk about all that shit.
- 46:01Speaker 3: We're the ones changing the culture, not you.
- 46:04Speaker 2: So do you.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Think by any chance that you being quote unquote pro
- 46:09Speaker 1: black the reputation of militant? Sorry about these mics.
- 46:13Speaker 2: It's so good.
- 46:14Speaker 1: It's the way we designed the table.
- 46:16Speaker 2: It's not being pro blacklat Do you think.
- 46:18Speaker 1: At times that that has hindered you?
- 46:22Speaker 3: I guess though, But I just think me being black
- 46:24Speaker 3: has hindered me because beans and rice.
- 46:26Speaker 2: I think that being black has hindered me because there's
- 46:28Speaker 2: just racist.
- 46:31Speaker 3: Because there's black people. I think there's they choose. We're
- 46:34Speaker 3: like action figures. They choose what they want to be
- 46:36Speaker 3: played with.
- 46:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I was gonna say that to me. There's such
- 46:38Speaker 1: thing as the quote unquote safe black.
- 46:40Speaker 2: There's the safe black.
- 46:41Speaker 3: One day, I did a whole thing where I watched
- 46:43Speaker 3: a whole like a couple of hours of safe Black
- 46:45Speaker 3: people on TV.
- 46:47Speaker 2: There was a thing a Safe Negro Day. It was
- 46:49Speaker 2: my safe Negro day?
- 46:50Speaker 1: Is that a thing for real?
- 46:51Speaker 2: No? I just for myself. I said, I want to
- 46:53Speaker 2: watch these black people that work all the time. I
- 46:55Speaker 2: want to see what the difference was.
- 46:57Speaker 3: I go, Wow, maw, chicken, you guys are fucking safe.
- 47:02Speaker 2: God damn.
- 47:03Speaker 3: Who like Denzel I relate to fishmur and I relate
- 47:07Speaker 3: to Samuel Jackson.
- 47:08Speaker 2: I relate to because they talk their shit. Yeah.
- 47:10Speaker 3: I relate to them because they balance it out. They'll
- 47:13Speaker 3: say stuff, but in a certain way. But I don't
- 47:16Speaker 3: fuck with the people that just never say anything about anything.
- 47:20Speaker 1: But have you seen it on the behind the scenes?
- 47:22Speaker 1: It hinder you.
- 47:23Speaker 2: I don't think no, because I don't go around doing that.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Hook it up.
- 47:29Speaker 2: I don't go around doing that.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Every You're asking me a question and I'm just, but
- 47:34Speaker 3: I don't go around. I don't treat people wrong. I'm
- 47:36Speaker 3: very nice to people. I'm very because I love myself.
- 47:39Speaker 3: When you have knowledge of self, when you love yourself,
- 47:43Speaker 3: you treat people. You emanate the same thing. I hurt people.
- 47:46Speaker 3: Hurt people, man. I don't treat people. My friends that
- 47:50Speaker 3: are white men, I treat them.
- 47:51Speaker 2: I care about them. I've had my friends drunk white
- 47:55Speaker 2: One of my best buddies.
- 47:56Speaker 3: Chad white dude drink a lot, all kinds of shit
- 48:00Speaker 3: him out of all his stupid man.
- 48:01Speaker 2: I got him the exercise because I care about him.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Many I don't care. But the problem is the people
- 48:08Speaker 2: who cause the oppression get mad when you're just trying
- 48:10Speaker 2: to find a little dignity in yourself. They find it
- 48:13Speaker 2: as a threat.
- 48:13Speaker 1: That's weird, I think, just the mere acknowledgement of it,
- 48:16Speaker 1: because goes through it. Now, let's judge your food. Let's
- 48:18Speaker 1: judge it.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Okay, let's see it.
- 48:22Speaker 1: Did you flavor of the beans at all?
- 48:25Speaker 2: But garlic and salt on it? Not bad? It's good, right,
- 48:30Speaker 2: I like, not bad, not bad for a brokeness, I know, broke.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Okay, now, let's trust your wings broke.
- 48:39Speaker 2: Clean, crunch, eat and good ad. That's right. I didn't
- 48:44Speaker 2: go crazy with the seizing, but I like it crunchy.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Impressed with the crunch though, I love it crunching. Yeah,
- 48:52Speaker 1: but I don't know how you did it. You did
- 48:54Speaker 1: a really good job. How did you do that? Do
- 49:01Speaker 1: you like the soft inside? That's the boiling?
- 49:04Speaker 2: That's good? Yes? How much of that is? Man?
- 49:10Speaker 1: I'm impressed with the crust.
- 49:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I love the crunch?
- 49:13Speaker 1: How would you do that? High heat? Tell me there's
- 49:22Speaker 1: some there's some listener out there like just jar. I
- 49:27Speaker 1: know it's olive oil, But how did you get the crunch?
- 49:31Speaker 2: Is it the cover? Yeah, it's just yeah, the cover.
- 49:34Speaker 2: You leave it there for longer than you expect. Hold
- 49:37Speaker 2: on you watch it. Great crush. You did better than
- 49:41Speaker 2: a sauce boy who.
- 49:43Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie. The crust is thoroughly impressive because
- 49:46Speaker 1: I've never had a crush. I've never been able to
- 49:47Speaker 1: do that. Yeah, okay, good, good job.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Down and it's something you can eat.
- 49:55Speaker 1: No, you don't eat like this now sometimes Yeah, okay,
- 50:00Speaker 1: he's like that.
- 50:00Speaker 2: Hell yeah, they never going down style see it. That's
- 50:04Speaker 2: a good combination too.
- 50:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, this is just so you know. This is
- 50:08Speaker 1: a great lunch. Did you have lunch yet?
- 50:11Speaker 2: Nope?
- 50:12Speaker 1: Sweat right off the plane in the kitchen, in the
- 50:15Speaker 1: kitchen sweating. Now when you see all these people that
- 50:20Speaker 1: you were grew up basically we're in the trenches. But yeah,
- 50:24Speaker 1: some of them hit the move. How does that? How
- 50:27Speaker 1: do you deal with knowing that these people were your
- 50:30Speaker 1: running mates and some of them have surpassed some of
- 50:32Speaker 1: them may.
- 50:32Speaker 3: Not have I'm happy for a lot of people, especially
- 50:34Speaker 3: when they've worked hard. There's some people that go how
- 50:37Speaker 3: but you could just be friends with the right person.
- 50:40Speaker 2: It's all kinds of factors.
- 50:42Speaker 1: So you but you do have that moment of because
- 50:44Speaker 1: you deal with I'm like, shure.
- 50:46Speaker 2: How you get that. That's normal. But there's healthy competition,
- 50:51Speaker 2: there's inspiration.
- 50:52Speaker 3: But then there's people that get to a level and
- 50:55Speaker 3: there are pieces of ship George, the people that came
- 50:57Speaker 3: up and I go, oh, I fuck you.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't play that shit. Ye I get anywhere.
- 51:03Speaker 3: I don't even let it get to me like that
- 51:04Speaker 3: because it's okay, that's great, but this is transient.
- 51:06Speaker 2: It comes up and goes up and down.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:09Speaker 3: I always wanted to be able. If I in a position,
- 51:11Speaker 3: I want to bring my friends with me. Man, get
- 51:13Speaker 3: that guy or that girl.
- 51:14Speaker 2: She's been working. I want that.
- 51:17Speaker 3: But a lot of people will pull the ladder up
- 51:20Speaker 3: and not want anybody to come up, which is insane
- 51:23Speaker 3: to me, because you got up there through the help
- 51:24Speaker 3: of others.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Yeah, you come off that way. When I first met you,
- 51:28Speaker 1: of course, everyone knows who you are and you walk
- 51:30Speaker 1: in the room, we know who you are. But the
- 51:32Speaker 1: fact that you're so approachable and oh yeah, sure, here's
- 51:34Speaker 1: my number, let's set it up. I just want everyone
- 51:38Speaker 1: out there to know that, Okay, without cameras, without anything,
- 51:43Speaker 1: completely who you say you are.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just easier. I'm going to be two people.
- 51:50Speaker 2: It's hard to be in your so you wanna be
- 51:52Speaker 2: another motherfucker?
- 51:53Speaker 3: Yeah, that's like corny, and I've seen it, like unless
- 51:57Speaker 3: something tragic happens to you and then all of a sudden.
- 51:59Speaker 2: You found your humanity, Like why did that? What it took?
- 52:02Speaker 2: It took a brick to hit you in the head
- 52:04Speaker 2: from a building like home with that.
- 52:06Speaker 1: But now it's so funny because I met someone that
- 52:09Speaker 1: did that day, like went through I don't know, cans,
- 52:11Speaker 1: scar something. Everywhere they went. They had the preach of
- 52:15Speaker 1: Jesus before.
- 52:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'm not perfect, don't get me wrong. Someone
- 52:21Speaker 2: approached me crazy. I go, you talking to you?
- 52:25Speaker 1: You're a typical New Yorker in my book.
- 52:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm like, yo, why are you talking to me
- 52:30Speaker 3: like that? Why are you talking disrespectful me? I don't
- 52:32Speaker 3: come in disrespectful.
- 52:33Speaker 2: I don't. I'm very nice to.
- 52:34Speaker 3: People because my parents taught me that you'd be nice
- 52:37Speaker 3: to be, but you don't let anybody push you over either.
- 52:39Speaker 2: You stand your ground. I balance it out. Yo.
- 52:41Speaker 3: You talk to me crazy, but for fuck you back
- 52:44Speaker 3: now all of a sudden, I'm the asshole. You'll go, Yo,
- 52:47Speaker 3: that got godfe his asshole. But you didn't tell you're
- 52:49Speaker 3: part of the story. You forgot, you left that out.
- 52:52Speaker 3: You were a piece of shit, And I answered you back,
- 52:55Speaker 3: What do you want me to do?
- 52:57Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 52:58Speaker 3: So I but I but most of the time, everything
- 53:01Speaker 3: is good, man, keep environment. I like to work like
- 53:04Speaker 3: I just did my grace of God, give my my
- 53:06Speaker 3: Comedy Central special. Take Comedy Special at the Apollo Theater.
- 53:11Speaker 3: I just have really wonderful people raise Rachel Frasier, Amanda I, Dias, Kimberly,
- 53:18Speaker 3: got just.
- 53:18Speaker 2: A whole cruel women that just got it done.
- 53:21Speaker 3: I got. I shot it last Thursday. I shot it
- 53:23Speaker 3: on June twelfth. I shot two shows, sold out and
- 53:28Speaker 3: we shot it and were and I cannot I'm looking
- 53:30Speaker 3: so forward. It was so great because I've been seven
- 53:33Speaker 3: years over due to shoot my next special. Because some
- 53:35Speaker 3: of these networks have ignored a lot of comedians for
- 53:38Speaker 3: some reason.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Because you noticed that always picked the same old people.
- 53:41Speaker 1: I was gonna say, there the way of selection. Some
- 53:44Speaker 1: of these comics, I just some of them are like
- 53:45Speaker 1: I just go yeah. I'm like, but backtrack just a
- 53:49Speaker 1: little bit because there's a question. You let it there.
- 53:51Speaker 1: But what was that point in your career where you
- 53:54Speaker 1: were like, Okay, this is I'm picking up a pace
- 53:56Speaker 1: or I'm a ride.
- 53:58Speaker 2: Book seven Up. After Orlandel Jones he was a spokesperson
- 54:03Speaker 2: for seven Up.
- 54:03Speaker 3: As a second guy after him, I was like, okay, shit,
- 54:07Speaker 3: I got I'm a spokesperson for an American product. I
- 54:09Speaker 3: always wanted to that. You got the progressive lady, you
- 54:12Speaker 3: got Jake, Jake from State.
- 54:17Speaker 1: Consistent.
- 54:18Speaker 2: I was like, this is alright.
- 54:19Speaker 3: I'm doing stuff on MTV because seven up is sponsoring MTV.
- 54:23Speaker 2: I'm doing spring Break.
- 54:24Speaker 3: I was like, hell, I was in the culture the
- 54:27Speaker 3: top culture like, I'm on MTV with Carson Daily.
- 54:30Speaker 2: What the fuck? I said.
- 54:35Speaker 3: I didn't think, oh, this is it. I just thought
- 54:37Speaker 3: this is a stepping stone, this is great.
- 54:39Speaker 2: I didn't think it's gonna last forever that this is.
- 54:41Speaker 3: But this guy named rod Asa, who was running MTV
- 54:45Speaker 3: I will never forget, and he looked out for me.
- 54:47Speaker 2: He said, I love you are talented. I want you
- 54:50Speaker 2: part of MTV. I'm looking for that guy. He was
- 54:53Speaker 2: so good to me. He got me on two seasons.
- 54:57Speaker 2: I hosted the spring Break. Then I did stuff, talking
- 55:00Speaker 2: head stuff on MTV in the eighties. I loved it.
- 55:03Speaker 2: It just merged and I was in the mix.
- 55:06Speaker 3: I wasn't getting paid a gang of loop, but I
- 55:08Speaker 3: was just happy to be in the culture.
- 55:10Speaker 1: But you were, and you were but at this time
- 55:12Speaker 1: doing comedy. And there's no side jobs because I haven't
- 55:15Speaker 1: heard but the whole New York journey, I haven't heard
- 55:18Speaker 1: any sign No.
- 55:19Speaker 2: I never have one. I had jobs in Chicago out
- 55:22Speaker 2: of college.
- 55:23Speaker 3: I was at the grocery store when me and my
- 55:24Speaker 3: brother and my sister were all grocery store kids.
- 55:26Speaker 2: My sister did the register when she was in college.
- 55:29Speaker 2: My brother did inventory. He stayed in the grocery business
- 55:32Speaker 2: for twenty years. I did produce.
- 55:34Speaker 3: I worked in produce, inventory, bagging groceries since I was fifteen.
- 55:38Speaker 3: I worked at furniture stores in college when I was
- 55:41Speaker 3: playing football and everything. They got us summer jobs. I
- 55:45Speaker 3: was doing construction shit. I was doing telemarketing shit. I
- 55:50Speaker 3: did jobs man, I had jobs, but in New York
- 55:52Speaker 3: I never had a job again now but busted my
- 55:56Speaker 3: ass and gigs, slept on cultures.
- 55:59Speaker 1: Oh that's what you did, my man, did you did
- 56:01Speaker 1: you say before coming though?
- 56:03Speaker 2: Not really? I had gigs though.
- 56:07Speaker 1: And to go back with your parents, To go back
- 56:09Speaker 1: to the conversation with your parents. Are you calling bluff?
- 56:11Speaker 1: Are you lying? Are you like? Oh, everything's great?
- 56:13Speaker 2: You know.
- 56:13Speaker 3: I said I'm making it and they were like, yeah,
- 56:16Speaker 3: I mean I don't have all the money in the world,
- 56:18Speaker 3: but I'm on a couch, but I'm getting gigs, doing
- 56:21Speaker 3: the urban circuit.
- 56:22Speaker 2: I was getting money cash in my pocket.
- 56:24Speaker 1: And were they in sorry, were they in support of it?
- 56:27Speaker 2: Yeah? It was a survival thing and you are you surviving? Okay?
- 56:31Speaker 2: And then when they see I was getting things here
- 56:33Speaker 2: and there.
- 56:34Speaker 1: They start seeing you on TV.
- 56:35Speaker 3: Oh man, When I was talking about my dad on TV,
- 56:38Speaker 3: that was one of my most famous jokes.
- 56:40Speaker 2: Like everybody was calling my father. My father was like,
- 56:43Speaker 2: I like this commity thing. This is really good because
- 56:47Speaker 2: he loved anything.
- 56:48Speaker 3: He's very Really he's a comedian, I said, Dad Cosby
- 56:53Speaker 3: is not Doctor Huxtable.
- 56:55Speaker 2: Bill Cosby is a comedian Jerry Sipo is a comedian.
- 56:59Speaker 2: They're a comedian. He was like, oh, this is good
- 57:02Speaker 2: because I was surviving. He said, yeah, if you were
- 57:04Speaker 2: like in Psychiago, one would know you. This is good.
- 57:07Speaker 2: He loved that.
- 57:07Speaker 1: Now, did your parents did anyone catch on early on
- 57:11Speaker 1: of your impersonations and all that I used.
- 57:14Speaker 2: To do muhama leave when I was living, Nobody really
- 57:16Speaker 2: thought about it.
- 57:17Speaker 3: I didn't really do impersonations a lot until later on
- 57:20Speaker 3: in my career because my manager told me, the guy
- 57:23Speaker 3: that the little Jewish guy, David Klingman, he told me,
- 57:26Speaker 3: don't do your impersonations right away. Make sure you build
- 57:31Speaker 3: your material, and then when you bring in your your impersonations,
- 57:34Speaker 3: it'll add to the arsenal. He was right, He was
- 57:37Speaker 3: right on point. He said, don't do it too much
- 57:39Speaker 3: because you look corny.
- 57:40Speaker 1: But they knew about it.

- 1:04:06Speaker 2: I haven't seen it. You liked it?
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: I loved it, and I'm not. I haven Tyler Perry,
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: but the way that was. I knew this when I
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: saw the promos. It rarely airmark a date mentally for
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: anything television, but I was like, June sixth, June six,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: June six, Taraji is great. But the writing on it.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: When I said I didn't see the ending coming, I said, oh.
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: Yeah, right, I gotta watch it because I did Tyler
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: Perry film last year with Tika Sumter. It's called Sisters
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: in Italy. It's coming out at some point, met on Netflix, whatever.
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: It's a rom com. So I played boyfriend at Dumpster.
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: I'm dark skin villain.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: Yeah, shout out to Tyler. It was fantastic. He was
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: treated me great. I asked everybody I was on his studio,

- 1:05:25Speaker 2: Like this, thank you all right for real?
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: Because but the beautiful thing is with comedy, I can
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: do that shit in my sleep. So he would be like,
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: because the first scene was I'm going to a funeral Antika.
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: I'm in the car with Tika, and I'm like, she's
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: like a real straight laced and her sister's emotional. She's not.
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: And I'm a boyfriend and I go.
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: So we're going to this funeral and Tyler's driving the
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: car and directing us in the cameras. You're not gonna
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: cry there crying your mother because WHOOPI Goldberg, isn't it
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: your mother?
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: You're not?

- 1:06:06Speaker 3: I'm like this, you gotta be like and Tyler's keep going.
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: So we're inner.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Were why he's driving a car?
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: Yeah, he goes there, you go keep going. Now do that? Now,
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: now stop that. Do that. He's driving and directing at
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: the same time. We do it and we have It
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: was fun.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: There was no pressure under that.
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: Type of I didn't.
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: It's one of those things where you just you're here action,
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: you gonna do it, even sometimes the fear is there.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: You've been doing it long enough, you go bam.
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: And he was so just chill man, He's just like, yo, ready,
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: you know how I do it.
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: He was funy ship and I'm like, dude's cool. It's yea.
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: And then the scene I do where I'm breaking up
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: with her, there's a funeral scene that's funny as hell,
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: and I think it's he works fast and he paid me,
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: treated me well, gift baskets.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: We're all. Everybody was chilling.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: I you sign up for the next one, and I said, hey.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: Man, hope to work with you again. He goes, oh, no,
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: you will. That was fantastic. I said, thank you man.
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: You know, hey man, it was cool man.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I heard an amazing story and I was.
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: Doing what I love to do, comedy. I was having fun.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: It wasn't no weird ship. It was just me being
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: a quirky ass boy. And he even said it was funny.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: As they go, hey man, we're gonna have to take
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: out the line in your head. We don't want you
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: to look too cool. You look too cool. You gotta
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: be a little bit quirky. They're like, you look too
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: Did you do what you did? Yeah, they just did
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: a little making.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: I like the line you said.
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: You look too fly? I go, what you look too fly? Okay?
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: So I was like, I have to break up. I
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: just can't. It's just I just can't. I can't go.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: That was one of those he goes, you bring it
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: up with me.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, but you know what, now that
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: you do the role, I can see why the line
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: had the second you said, yeah, that's nothing, that's nothing.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Yeah man, that's like I said.
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: I just like when I'm talking about my milities, I'm
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: not doing anything to rule. I want to who doesn't
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: want to put food on the table around I want
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: to be successful, to be successful being treated like a
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: human being?
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: I want to Why can't I like myself? Why is
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: it a threat to you that I like myself? That's weird?
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: You're savage? Why can't a woman be like I don't
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: want to be over sexualized? Why can't I make it
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: out you touching me?
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: What's wrong with that?
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: Now you're mad because you don't want her to She
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: don't want to take her pants in front of people.
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: That's insane to me. That's insanity to me.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: Why can't you have a sex scene where we know
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: they had sex, close the door, and then we go
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: to the next scene. Why do they gotta be they're
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: kissing little normal, little shit? But why does it got.
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: To be right? Why?
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't understand.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: I'm just saying I don't understand. I'm like, yo, I
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: watched Born Hill because but I know what it's for.
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: But why, I'm just you know, why if a woman's

- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Also, so how did you end up raising the money
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: to do it?
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: I raised the money from fans like another fan like.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: You were just open about it.
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: I just said, hey man, and my fans said, once
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: you start to go fund me they told me so.
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: I raised them a fifty grand wow. And from there they.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: Said, we're going to send you my head, all right.
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: I don't ask people for shit.
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: Then through my cash app from just doing stuff online.
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: From that my friends. They was, well, I am a
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: big donation. I was like, what, he don't even remember
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: giving me the money. That's how much money?
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: He asked.
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: I did no, I'm good, damn so I am rich.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: So now that you tape it, what's the next one.
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: I had another guy, Rodrigo, big time.
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: He was a venture capitalist, paid me a boatload of
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: money and we got it done and I chose the
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: Apollo and did two shows and it.
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: Was fantastic and all of the cheering was real. It
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: wasn't fake. I love that, and the jokes were hitting.
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: It was.
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: It was the standing ovation. Everything was just not forced.
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: It was and they were and I felt how happy
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: they were for me. That's what I felt.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: They were like, it's about fucking time.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: I like that.
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it felt good.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: So where do people watch it?
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: I don't know yet. We're now we got to edit
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: it down and prepare it.
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: So the good thing is I got it and I
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: will definitely be letting.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: I'll be on outlets.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: But now, do you at least know a timeline?
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: I would say that I don't know. I don't, I
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: really don't.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: I will definitely be announcing it, though, because I don't
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: want to say something.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: Lying and move.
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: I saw that you were taping it. Yeah, but now,
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: but I'm guessing that it would be within the next
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: six months.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: I would think sothing.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: Okay, cool, cool, So this episode will drop. We're going
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: to try and drop it alongside. So the promos heavy.
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: That's great. Cool, but yeah, and.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: What can people expect when checking out the smissa, what's
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: the name of it? Have you come up with the
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: name of it? No, that's what's always Yeah.
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: Our current know what it's all about. Live We've been
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: lied to.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: It's all about being lied to about capitalism, and we
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: lie to make money.
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: It's all money and lies. It's called that's what's This
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: theme is that I stopped believing in a lot of shit.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: And it's an hour said.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: The first show was our ten, the second was our forty.
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: So yeah, it depends what you cause, maybe I'll do Yeah, okay,
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: I like that. And then, just while we're talking about
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: this stuff, how do you feel about the state of
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: some of these specials on Netflix.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: I think a lot of them are trash.
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: Yeah too, because not because there's a hater thing, but
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: as a critic a critique.
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: A lot of people are on there that are not ready.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: You can see it. They're not prepared for that. But
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: I do think that not like the Chappelle's who know
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: what you're doing, Bill Burdos what he's doing.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: But those are real comics that have been like George they.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: All know what they're doing, Blunell ever Quit. They know
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: what they're doing. They have the time, they have the hours. Yeah,
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: they have the stage time. But there's a lot that
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: I go, what am I watching? Yeah, this is insane.
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: That I've had somewhere I can't even make it past.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: But I will say this, there's one in particular that
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: really stands out. Not going to say the person's name.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: It was so bad that I, when I say, was
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: forcing myself and still couldn't make it till their minute
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: thirty and then but the hype around them, because of
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: the world we live in was like still hype. I
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: was very confused. But I think that the more Netflix
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: does these wax specials, the less I'm me personally. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: I'm not clicking on it anymore. Yea, even when I hear,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: especially if I hear the buzz online and I've done
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: it again and another comic not saying names, who is
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: really huge right now. People love them, and I'm just
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: like no, And that's why I'm like, maybe it's me,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: but I just don't see it. Yeah, but I think
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: it's also TV. Sorry to cut you off.
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: When you have a machine behind you, they can get
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: anybody to believe.
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: I forgot what the name is called. It's not called
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: Softis Street.
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: There's a name where you can talk and where you
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: can lie and make it believable. If you keep talking
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: about something enough, I believe it for it. There's a
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: name that what it's called.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: I don't know if it's so or it's just if
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: they have a show or some pick up on social
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: media automatically.
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: Behind you, bringing everybody you can sell. What is they
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: even sell water? You can sell water to a fish.
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: You do it the right way. Yeah, But I go
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: and I watch, and I go as a purist, as
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: a community purist.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: And people that I know that deserve, I go, what
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: what is? What the fuck are we watching? What are
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: we watching?
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: That's me?
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: I know it's numbers. I get that, of course, I
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: know it's the numbers. Yeah, it's a business. But you
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: put up somebody that's whack. Why don't you put somebody
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: that's funny because people will go, oh, to just see this.
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: It'll be because comedy, I believe has to be done
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: properly for people to want to see that.
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: That's what I think. I don't know.
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: I think personally that the real comics are going to
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: have to start staying away from Netflix. And I'm going
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: to say why, because I feel like Netflix. Companies like
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: Netflix are starting to produce really whack specials and it's
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: almost going to become unless you like I know now,
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: unless I know that comic, I'm not trying them out
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: because I'm not gonna try them out first on Netflix
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: only because Netflix has delivered so many bad especially are
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: and this is a non comic saying like a regular
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: person saying I've seen too many. Out of ten specials,
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: of two of them are decent, decent you're giving yeah.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: And then there's some comics that, for whatever reason, are
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: to me better in person than they are on specials.
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: Right, here's another thing.
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: I give people a little bit of a pass when
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: it comes to specials. I give people a little bit
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: of a pass because the anxiety when you're trying to
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: shoot one is and I'm glad that because people like
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: the build up to my special was it's just a
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: lot of stress. But because people are so much more
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: excited than you are, They're like, yo, man, we come
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: into my sister.
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: Flu and my brother flew and my cousin's fluid.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: And people are getting dressed in the nine, so they're.
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: Coming and hyped, and I gotta go, this is just
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: a set I'm doing. This is the same set I've
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: been doing. But I got decorations on the stage. Now,
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: now there's a thing behind me. But it's the same
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: shit I've been doing. So I had to take it
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: like this is just another set. But it was a
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: lot though.
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: It was yo, and I was doing Hot ninety seven,
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: I was doing all the radio shows. How do you
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: think I'm good? Man, I'm good.
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: I was just like in my head because you want,
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: because you want to make sure all the technical shit
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: is right, because you do the rehearsals.
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: I gotta do rehearsal for these jokes. I've been telling
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: for the best, So you gotta do to make sure
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: the cameras are right. Got to make sure nothing goes wrong, please,
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: nothing go wrong.
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: And everything went pretty goddamn smooth, and it was all
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: and popping.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: I can't wait to see it.
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm proud of it. Man and my camera dudes,
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: oh my photography. Oh just everybody was just killing it.
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: Man and Ralph Carter from Good Times, we played Michael.
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: There was Good Times. Yeah, barely Mike, But there's Michael,
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: little kid. He came by. He's a Brooklyn guy. He
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: came backstage and it was just so cool. He came by.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: I go, we grew up on you. Man.
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: You were a kid performer. You weren't Raisin in the
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: sun as a kid. Like they don't understand. You're a
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: fucking icon. Fuck what you heard? You are a.
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: Premicon and you came to see me. And he goes, hey,
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: can I stay for the second show? I go, what
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: you know? What fuck you want? We having good times
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: right now. But he went to high school. Knew went
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: to grade school with Larry Fishburn. Oh wow, throw both
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: from Brooklyn.
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: He went to fucking He goes, I knew Larry before
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: he started acting, and Larry acted at around nine ten
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: years old.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: Now, how long have you been in your whole career
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: as a comic? Now? How many years? Twenty five, twenty
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: five years? What kind of advice would you give to
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: people pursuing comedy and just because.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: I say, I didn't know if he was laughing, You'll
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: just be good.
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: But be good, I was gonna say, because you did
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: dominate social too a little bit too. But what advice
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: would you give to people getting into this game twenty
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: five years? I said, let me consistent, And how long
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: was your struggle period? For that twenty five struggle period?
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: I always tell people it's easy ten but for the
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: low average was my struggle?
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: What was it?
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: Was it?
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: A it was struggle. I don't know because I was
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: having fun.
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: Man, I'm talking about financial struggle, like where you were
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: like still yo, I'm still trying to clear.
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: I think when I first got to New York, and
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: we got to New.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: York that first six months.
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: But I was on stage but getting money, yeah, but
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: sleeping on couch.
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: Because you had to go through all the clubs in
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: New York. You have to pass in every club they have.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: That is it chitling circuit or whatever?
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: And the main I did both, okay.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: But what was great is like chilling circuit page well,
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: but then added to the mainstream.
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: Because I could go both. It was like, oh man,
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: I got that. Man, this is great per week in
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: cash about fifteen or two thousand and can.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: Yeah, what's going on is I was surviving like in
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: most cities don't pay like that.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: Yeah, so I was having money in my pocket like stacks.
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: Is there any club in New York that was hard
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: to pass?
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: So it depends it was a comedy seller.
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: But then I got in the comic strip I got in,
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: there was a lot. They were much more strict back then,
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: but then they've been a little more because there's so
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: many comedians now and a lot of clubs.
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: Are opening, so they need It's like they need.
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: Content and a lot of people are comics because of
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: clips and ship. Yeah, but I tell them, man, if
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: you're in this, I hope you love it. Man, you
- 1:20:27Speaker 3: better loved this ship because wait.
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: It's downside. Given do you think the traveling can be
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: considered a downside?
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I could be tiring, but you got to get
- 1:20:37Speaker 3: to places people, and I would like you.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: No, I'm talking about her family and stuff like that.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: Does that ever get like hard family for me?
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: I don't have no kids. I have no kids. It
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: can be, but at this point.
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: Do you think that's hindered the kid thing?
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: I think maybe unless you did. I had a girl
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: that for like years that she didn't know I'm kids,
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: so I didn't think about it. Kids.
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: I have won, oh yeah, but I was just wondering
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: if it hugh.
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: To even have one.
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not.
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: I never I just never had. Yeah, maybe I never
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: had baby Peou. Game was nasty like inside fastball bull one.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: Then next year I get a text like, oh I
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: got one.
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: If it happens cool, I'm not neither here nor they.
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: I'm trying to get that fuck you money right now.
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: I feel like I'm going to have verge like you
- 1:21:22Speaker 3: are clear finding it.
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: I think there's a way to get to it, and
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: I'm around people go no.
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: We can get to it. Just strategizing we can get
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: to it. And so if I get that, I'll be like,
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: I wouldn't mind kid too, But I don't know who
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: with because it's cycles.
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's fool is disgusting.
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: I think it's hard to me who have the kid with. Yes,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: but go back all the way back before we close out.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: What advice would you give to someone coming up in
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: this game after twenty five years?
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: Love it countless specials, love it you love.
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: It, love, don't be up there taking up space because
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: you think you're going to get famous a day because
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: you see some media, because a lot of mediocrity makes it,
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: but comedy doesn't.
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: Is unforgiving.
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: If you ain't ready, it's gonna show because comedy gives
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: you results right away.
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: Up, work at it. I'm saying, take it as serious. Denzel.
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: I love Denzel.
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: Denzel said something to the ladies, goes, is there any
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: advice you can give to if you see that one?
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: He goes, learn, shut up, turn off your phone, study,
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: go to class.
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: You see say that. Just yeah, practice your craft, hone,
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: your craft, really work your craft.
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: It's a real craft. Because even me at my level,
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: I still see the difficulty in it. I still see
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: if I don't get this right, I'm finished, they're gonna
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: fucking They're not gonna laugh at this shit. So we
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: and for guys like Jerry Seinfeld, who still does.
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: Comedy a billionaire, that's how heavy the heart is. Fuck
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: the money.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: Where you see this because.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: You go, oh, I'm gonna craft another joke. I gotta
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: get that. I gotta get that laughter. Wanted to see
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: my genius again.
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: It's like musicians play till they're fucking stop.
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: Stop doing that.
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: And I just tell people just love it, don't just
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: take up Get the fuck off the stage. If you're
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: just taking up space, have some humility about the fucking craft.
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: Just because you did two cool shows don't mean you
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: equal to like these vets, So don't.
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: Stick And for the same for the social because there's
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: a lot of social media influencers and also.
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: You people are on social media. Sketches not the same
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: as stand up. You better you're gonna find out real
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: quick just because.
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: You do funny sketches has nothing to do with stand up.
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: Now that speaking of that, just and I'm meant to
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: cut us short. We got it. We were over time.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: But batches now doing stand up? Have you seen that?
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: Actually yeah, I've seen him. I've seen him. I've worked
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: with him. He's with Joe Koy and so he's actually learned.
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: He's on Rower.
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: And he asked me questions all the time, so he
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: actually cares about it.
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: But he's still amazed because you'll see me. I'll be
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: in New York. He goes, Yo, what you doing?
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: I said, I just got on stage. I'm about to
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: go on another stage. Wait, how many you got tonight?
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: For all in one day. I go, yeah, so you
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: get good at it, you gotta do it all the time.

- 1:24:19Speaker 3: show tonight.
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: I remember when Ego first got into a man. He'd
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: be out all night and then I'd come to town
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: and he would I'd be like, just wake me up
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: and bring me a chop cheese and a snap on.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: He was so sweet. He would always bring me a
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: chop cheese and a snap on. I knew he would
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: be out all night.
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: That's right. I've been on shows with him.
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: I got him on wiling Out because I said, he's
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: really funny, he's smart, he's quick.
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: And then he did it. He and my thing is
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: didn't mean he was going to get on. He had
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: to prove himself.
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: He definitely had to prove and then Nick.
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: Was like, your man, God told us about you. And
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: then I said, but I said, Nick, Ego, you gotta
- 1:24:54Speaker 3: do it. You gotta do the work.
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: And he did it, and he let me tell you
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: something now, So there was no there was a part
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: where let's kick you off. There was a part where
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: Eagle was a little nervous. He was like, just temperature
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: chech now and I was like no, And now had
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: told me he said he waited the whole camp for
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: my phone call to come through, just so he could
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: reject it. He said, he just he said, I knew
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: you was gonna call and I didn't. And he was like,
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: I was impressed that you didn't, but I wanted your
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: brother to know that he did it on his own.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: And he says, so nobody, you can never be like
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: you a big sister or whatever.
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: He did.
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: He called because he called. He said, man, I'm gonna go.
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: I think I'm gonna go to go for Wilding Out.
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: He said, oh you are He said, yeah, Man, I
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: don't know.
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: It was his third time, third or four times like Nick.
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: And then I went, I said Nick personally, I called him.
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: I said, I got a guy eagle Wick. He's coming it.
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: And then when he went into the room, Nick said,
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: Godfrey told me about you.
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: I love that.
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: Yeah, and I said, and he goes, we I fucked
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: with his opinion because a Nick had begged me to
- 1:25:58Speaker 3: come on wilding Out.
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: He was like, you've done a couple of spots though, Yeah,
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: I was on.
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: I was at Nick's house in Jersey, and I was like.
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: He was like, because I was doing his doctor Sebbi
- 1:26:06Speaker 3: documentary and he goes, yo, man, so what's up man,
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: You're gonna do well on the web?
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: Man, I said, it's because it's popular. Don't mean I
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: need to do it.
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: Did he lock you in a room to get you?
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: He was like in his kitchen like, man, come on, man,
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: come on man.
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: I said, okay, how are you going to cater I'm
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: gonna I want you to do voices.

- 1:26:31Speaker 3: of great ship off of that.
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: So yeah, I did it. And then I ended up
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: writing on his daytime talk show for seven months. That
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: was cool.
- 1:26:37Speaker 3: I never written for anything, but yeah, Nick has always
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: looked out. Now he has a he has a Spade show.
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: I like that show.
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: Is it good? Getting the clips of it?
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: Yeah? I just like the idea that he did something
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: that creative.
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: Because I know they called me for it, but I
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: don't know to place.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: I don't know how to place.
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: I should have learned. Friends.
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: You should tell him that and just ask him if
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: he'd be willing to switch it up for you. But
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: you should totally do the show.
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: No, I'm gonna.
