Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: No, but I need a really big one. It's one
- 0:02Speaker 1: more thing. I'm Strong and Getty following up on a
- 0:11Speaker 1: conversation we had on the Armstrong and Getty radio show
- 0:17Speaker 1: about things that you buy or almost buy when you're
- 0:20Speaker 1: on vacation, because for some reason you get enthused about
- 0:23Speaker 1: something you sometimes have never thought about in your life
- 0:26Speaker 1: before you're walking through one of those shops. Maybe you've
- 0:29Speaker 1: had a couple of drinks, or you just got that footloose,
- 0:32Speaker 1: fancy free that you have free feeling you have on
- 0:35Speaker 1: vacation anyhow, so we, uh, my son wanted to look
- 0:38Speaker 1: at some cool rocks we're up at. It's the name
- 0:42Speaker 1: of the place Shasta City. I think it is Shasta
- 0:44Speaker 1: City at the foot of Mount Shasta, and it's one
- 0:47Speaker 1: of your old timy towns, and they got a lot
- 0:49Speaker 1: of tourist shops in one of them with all kinds
- 0:51Speaker 1: of cool rocks and that sort of stuff from local minds,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and my son wanted to look at it. So we
- 0:57Speaker 1: walked in there and it was this great, big, giant
- 0:59Speaker 1: room aff room of lots of rocks, but also a
- 1:02Speaker 1: ton of hippie stuff, just all kinds of the hippiest
- 1:05Speaker 1: hippie stuff, and my older son really likes laughing at
- 1:09Speaker 1: mocking hippies and their ways, so he was highly amused
- 1:13Speaker 1: by the hippies. And there there was one woman. She
- 1:16Speaker 1: was actually she appeared to be praying to this quartz
- 1:20Speaker 1: thing that was sitting on a shelf. She put her
- 1:23Speaker 1: hand on it and closed her eyes and she was
- 1:25Speaker 1: just kind of swaying back and forth slowly.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Jeez like whatever.
- 1:31Speaker 1: But I told my son, you know, you know that's
- 1:33Speaker 1: her religion. You know, you have your religion, we have different.
- 1:36Speaker 1: That's her religion. Is that rock at a store? All right?
- 1:39Speaker 1: But anyway, lots of that sort of But I kept
- 1:42Speaker 1: hearing this sound as we're walking around the store. Is
- 1:45Speaker 1: really low, way lower than I can make with my mouth,
- 1:52Speaker 1: very very very low sound, and I found it incredibly
- 1:55Speaker 1: like attractive. It was like pleasing or relaxing or something.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Thing this really low sound that I was hearing, And
- 2:03Speaker 1: it took me a long time to figure out it
- 2:05Speaker 1: was in the gong room where I was hearing this.
- 2:08Speaker 1: So they got you got gongs like that. Every gong
- 2:11Speaker 1: I've ever heard sounds kind of like this gong I've
- 2:13Speaker 1: got here, really sharp, piercing unpleasant sound. But they had
- 2:18Speaker 1: these great, big handmade from Tibet gongs that were really expensive.
- 2:25Speaker 2: They very had gone bang a gong man.
- 2:27Speaker 1: They were like between two and five thousand dollars, these
- 2:30Speaker 1: giant gongs, but I mean they're huge. I'm sticking my
- 2:33Speaker 1: hands out. They're probably three feet across, like a.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Van Halen drum solo gong come on at the.
- 2:40Speaker 1: End, Alex stands up, bam. I had never heard one
- 2:43Speaker 1: this these. I'd never heard gongs this low before. It
- 2:46Speaker 1: was almost like you felt it instead of heard it.
- 2:49Speaker 1: It was practically inaudible. But they had a big soft
- 2:54Speaker 1: mallet and you could hit these big, giant, heavy metal
- 2:57Speaker 1: gongs and they come on a stand and you'd hit
- 3:00Speaker 1: it and it just kind of go. And I filled
- 3:05Speaker 1: the room with this really low home and I thought,
- 3:08Speaker 1: I love this for some reason. I want this so
- 3:11Speaker 1: badly in my home, and I still might look into one.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I have learned over the years, if you ever do
- 3:16Speaker 1: come across something you want to buy in a vacation town,
- 3:19Speaker 1: by it somewhere else, because it's going to be like
- 3:21Speaker 1: a third the price. I'm sure that three thousand dollars
- 3:24Speaker 1: gong is one thousand dollars of Bye by It Joe's
- 3:27Speaker 1: discount gongs on Amazon. But I just found that so
- 3:32Speaker 1: pleasing in some way. It's the first time I'd like
- 3:33Speaker 1: understood gongs or why you know, the Tibetans or the
- 3:37Speaker 1: monks or the whoever might be into those when they're
- 3:39Speaker 1: doing their mantras.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Now I have a theory. Did you look into this
- 3:46Speaker 2: at all? Because I think I know what's going on?
- 3:48Speaker 1: Not really.
- 3:50Speaker 2: From the dawn of life on Earth, the planet has
- 3:53Speaker 2: had what's known as a natural frequency. The Earth resonates
- 3:58Speaker 2: at seven point eighty three hurts.
- 4:00Speaker 1: That's low.
- 4:01Speaker 2: It's yeah, it's crazy low. You feel it more than
- 4:05Speaker 2: you hear it. But we've been feeling that vibration since
- 4:10Speaker 2: the moment, well, probably before we were born in utero
- 4:15Speaker 2: even And so now I don't know if you can
- 4:18Speaker 2: possibly design a gong to resonate at seven point eight
- 4:20Speaker 2: three hurts, but I wonder if it's okay. Well. Research
- 4:26Speaker 2: on the benefits of human resonance is ongoing. Multiple studies
- 4:29Speaker 2: suggest that the human frequency of seven point eight three
- 4:32Speaker 2: hurts positively affects human health and well being. It has
- 4:35Speaker 2: been linked to linked to improved cognitive functions, reduce stress
- 4:39Speaker 2: and anxiety, enhanced immune functions, sleep function much more. That
- 4:43Speaker 2: resonates with what you're saying.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I don't know that it's gonna, you know, help me medicinally.
- 4:51Speaker 1: But but you just said it made you feel really good. Yeah,
- 4:54Speaker 1: I did lower stress. I just felt I just I
- 4:57Speaker 1: really liked it. I really enjoyed it for some reason.
- 4:59Speaker 1: My kids we're like, all right, Dad, we get it.
- 5:01Speaker 1: You like the gong because I was getting really enthusiastic
- 5:03Speaker 1: about the gong. But but henry on to buy a
- 5:06Speaker 1: dirigit ado or however you say that word. Okay, so
- 5:09Speaker 1: dedrigit to do is okay, but the gong is silly.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Huh uh No, did you do for you? But here's
- 5:19Speaker 1: the question I got to ask Katie. It's a single guy.
- 5:22Speaker 1: You go to a guy's house and he's got a big,
- 5:24Speaker 1: giant gong in his bedroom. It's practically like being a
- 5:26Speaker 1: snake owner, isn't it. So many questions similar to a guy.
- 5:30Speaker 1: If you if I saw somebody that had a big gong,
- 5:32Speaker 1: like I think, okay, you also have a bola and
- 5:35Speaker 1: a couple of geckos, and uh yeah.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it would definitely lead me to believe you're into
- 5:41Speaker 3: some weird stuff.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:43Speaker 2: It's not a deal breaker, but it's a waving red flag.
- 5:47Speaker 1: It is. It is a It is a I would
- 5:49Speaker 1: want to ask more about it, Like.
- 5:51Speaker 2: I said, so many questions. I can't feed audio through
- 5:56Speaker 2: my station.
- 5:56Speaker 1: But i'd hate to. In the deal. You know, everything's
- 6:01Speaker 1: going great, and then all of a sudden they see
- 6:03Speaker 1: my giant gong. Oh okay, you're one of those people.
- 6:07Speaker 2: You could use it to break the ice. Is that
- 6:10Speaker 2: coming through?
- 6:11Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, I can hear it really low gong. I
- 6:17Speaker 1: gotta tell you, I found it pleasing.
- 6:19Speaker 2: And this is having an odd effect on me.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I know, and I'm not gong guy. And then in
- 6:24Speaker 1: the room or are.
- 6:25Speaker 2: You Jack the gong guy. I'm gonna make it stop.
- 6:29Speaker 2: It's weirding me out.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Am I gonna have to start wearing robes like change
- 6:32Speaker 1: my whole outfit and everything.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Yes, snake, snake, and like a headband and wear the
- 6:39Speaker 2: wearing of the prophetic robes.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Grow my hair out and get the bony tail.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Yes, perfect, Yes, keeps getting better and better. Burn incense
- 6:47Speaker 2: in your home. Oh, get you a couple of quartz crystals, exactly,
- 6:52Speaker 2: Get you a couple of chrits, a number of bracelets,
- 6:55Speaker 2: different kinds of bracelets, like leather tied bracelets.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Around my wrists, alas and shoelas. I never wear socks again.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I'm sandals. You see my feet, guy, Get barking stocks exactly.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I got a gone what's that?
- 7:08Speaker 2: That's semi tattoo hen Ti and Hennah Hannah tattoo. Get
- 7:12Speaker 2: yourself a Henna tattoo or five. I can't be jeans boots,
- 7:16Speaker 2: t shirt guy and have a gong. I gotta change
- 7:18Speaker 2: my whole look.
- 7:19Speaker 3: No, right, you have to be Sandals, gong and essential
- 7:21Speaker 3: oils guy, now essential loyalist.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Yeah, none of your like superfluous oils, just the essential ones. Yeah.
- 7:30Speaker 2: The gong is going to be the center of your identity,
- 7:33Speaker 2: as it were.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Can I rub you in some tertiary oils? No?
- 7:36Speaker 2: No, come on, I'm the gong guy.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Only essential oils.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Right. You ever bought a vacation guitar?
- 7:46Speaker 1: I did. I did one time in Mexico, and I'm
- 7:48Speaker 1: glad I did because I played it the whole week
- 7:50Speaker 1: guy's there and it wasn't very expensive, but I still
- 7:52Speaker 1: have it. Cool like a nylon string Mexico guitar.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Nice shortly after I swear I would never buy another guitar.
- 7:58Speaker 2: I bought a vacation guitar. It's a really cool guitar,
- 8:00Speaker 2: but I don't I don't need like more than three
- 8:03Speaker 2: guitars at this point, and I have more than I'd
- 8:05Speaker 2: like to admit trade them for a gong. I'm weird
- 8:09Speaker 2: that way. I've only sold or gotten rid of like
- 8:14Speaker 2: three guitars in my life. I just keep them and
- 8:18Speaker 2: the one I got rid of because I thought I
- 8:20Speaker 2: have enough guitars. I've spent enough time or money rather
- 8:23Speaker 2: on them. I'm gonna sell this one to buy the
- 8:25Speaker 2: new one I want. I've regretted it every moment since.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I get attached to them, like their people. I have
- 8:34Speaker 2: a very I get stressed even thinking about selling one
- 8:37Speaker 2: of my guitars, like one I haven't played in three years.
- 8:40Speaker 1: That's interesting.
- 8:41Speaker 2: I know it's weird. I was gonna ask a harder, Yeah,
- 8:45Speaker 2: go ahead, smash. Sorry if you guys have ever smashed
- 8:48Speaker 2: a guitar. No, I couldn't do that, really, not intentionally. No.
- 8:52Speaker 1: When Garth Brooks used to do that, I hated that
- 8:54Speaker 1: part of his concert. He'd smash a perfectly good guitar
- 8:58Speaker 1: really bothered me.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I didn't. John Hyatt has a song that I know,
- 9:02Speaker 2: John Jack knows perfectly good guitar. It's all about how
- 9:07Speaker 2: terrible it is to see somebody smashing it perfectly good guitar.
- 9:10Speaker 1: You smashed a guitar, Katie.
- 9:12Speaker 3: It was a piece of crap. And it the the
- 9:15Speaker 3: not the neck. I'm losing my terminology of it. But
- 9:18Speaker 3: the bridge was about to snap back. It looked like
- 9:21Speaker 3: if I played it anymore, it was gonna break my hand.
- 9:23Speaker 3: So we we had a good time.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Run grab it, should I say so?
- 9:29Speaker 1: The only thing that will keep me from buying a gong,
- 9:33Speaker 1: I think, is how it would affect possible future relationships.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Do I hide it in the closet like I'm in
- 9:41Speaker 1: the closet as a gong guy.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I think as a purely practical matter, you embrace it
- 9:47Speaker 2: completely in the way we were just discussing, and just
- 9:50Speaker 2: get with hippie.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Chicks with their with their armpit hair and their dirty feet.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I can't do that.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Maybe maybe you don't have what it.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Takes Bernie Sanders bumper stickers.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Or you're too uptight man open with it, like, hey, check,
- 10:09Speaker 3: I have a gong.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I want to get this out of the way,
- 10:12Speaker 1: like you're selling you got an STD. I need to
- 10:14Speaker 1: tell you up front before we go any further. I
- 10:18Speaker 1: own a gong.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Why do I care it? Well, it's like five feet
- 10:24Speaker 2: wide and it was fifteen thousand dollars.
- 10:28Speaker 1: But I don't. But nothing else comes with it. I
- 10:30Speaker 1: hate the smell of whatever that smell is that everybody
- 10:33Speaker 1: has in their home. I don't smell pot. No, It's
- 10:35Speaker 1: just it's my only thing in that world. But I
- 10:38Speaker 1: really like my gong.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Just flashing me on Serial Killer Cereal.
- 10:44Speaker 3: You can have a conversation with her and just say, Okay,
- 10:47Speaker 3: when I speak, I will hit the gong and then
- 10:49Speaker 3: you can speak.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Let's see how that goes.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Oh boy, what why?
- 10:54Speaker 3: No?
- 10:57Speaker 2: Well, I guess that's it.
