- 0:31Hey guys, what is going on?
- 0:33It is Clydesdale Media Roundtable time,
- 0:36back at our normal time,
- 0:38and we have been off the
- 0:41air all weekend by choice.
- 0:44We want to explain what all that is,
- 0:47and we wanted to take some
- 0:48time to remember our friend Lazar Jukic.
- 0:53I am
- 0:55i am by no means were we
- 0:57best friends or anything
- 0:59like that but we were very
- 1:01good acquaintances and um I
- 1:04knew him he knew me we
- 1:06spoke when we saw each
- 1:07other and so I want to open
- 1:09it up to the crew who also
- 1:11knew lazar and um or lazar
- 1:15I'm sorry cat I'll get it
- 1:17right uh lazar and uh open
- 1:21up to you guys on memories
- 1:22that you had of him so
- 1:25whoever wants to take the floor first.
- 1:27Well,
- 1:27I know you guys met him first virtually,
- 1:29so maybe you should start
- 1:30with that first time you
- 1:32guys talked with him and Luca.
- 1:34Yeah,
- 1:35so we interviewed the brothers the
- 1:38first time.
- 1:38This was right after they had qualified
- 1:41or the games, I guess, back in 2021.
- 1:44Right.
- 1:45Um, and I remember it's funny.
- 1:48I,
- 1:48I remember my very first sort of bit of
- 1:50information that I heard
- 1:52about Lazar that I found
- 1:53out about was that he
- 1:54qualified in 2019 and that
- 1:56he didn't accept his invite.
- 1:58And my cynical brain went
- 1:59right to he's doping.
- 2:01He's gotta be doping.
- 2:02Like why else would you not
- 2:03go to the games?
- 2:04Right.
- 2:04You must be on drugs.
- 2:05You gotta cycle off and everything else.
- 2:07Um,
- 2:08And we, I guess,
- 2:09I don't know if we asked
- 2:10him or someone had
- 2:11explained to us that he wasn't ready.
- 2:13And it's funny because I
- 2:14went back and listened to
- 2:15the interview that he did
- 2:16with Dave just a few weeks ago.
- 2:19And he explained sort of why he did that.
- 2:21And he didn't want to be
- 2:22that guy that showed up, you know,
- 2:24and just like finish last or just,
- 2:27you know,
- 2:27or got cut potentially because
- 2:28he wasn't ready for the big stage.
- 2:31And that was the year, as you all recall,
- 2:32that national champions got
- 2:33invites and a lot of people,
- 2:35Oh, yeah.
- 2:35Showed up, you know,
- 2:36for the apparel and then, you know,
- 2:38exit stage left after event one, you know,
- 2:42because of the event.
- 2:42So that was kind of the first aha moment.
- 2:46Like it was a lesson to me.
- 2:48Like you hear about people
- 2:50and you hear stories and
- 2:51you just kind of jump to conclusions.
- 2:52Right.
- 2:53And then, you know,
- 2:54after getting to know him.
- 2:56I thought like,
- 2:56there's no way this guy cheated, right?
- 2:58There's no way that he,
- 2:59this is what he was.
- 3:00And I even,
- 3:00it's funny because I saw
- 3:02pictures of him that I took
- 3:03from the 2021 games and
- 3:05then seeing him now, like he's grown,
- 3:07you know, physically since then.
- 3:09Like if he was on something,
- 3:11they weren't very good.
- 3:12If he was, you know, in 2019,
- 3:14cause he wasn't that,
- 3:15he wasn't that developed as he is now,
- 3:17which I'm sure just comes from, you know,
- 3:19all the hard work that he put in.
- 3:20But, you know,
- 3:22my initial memories of him are just,
- 3:23like I said before,
- 3:25He was always very open to talk,
- 3:27always wanted to talk.
- 3:28And I remember even during
- 3:29the games when we saw him,
- 3:30like no one was really talking to him.
- 3:32Nobody really knew who he was.
- 3:33And I was like letting him
- 3:35in the wrong door in the
- 3:37arena because he wanted to
- 3:39get in and watch, you know,
- 3:40Luca do stuff.
- 3:41It was just,
- 3:42he was just like a regular guy.
- 3:44He never put himself on a
- 3:46pedestal or acted like he
- 3:48was too good to talk to us.
- 3:50And who are we?
- 3:51Like, we just, you know,
- 3:52we're not like big names in the space.
- 3:54He did not, you know, have to,
- 3:56for the benefit of his career or anything,
- 3:59treat us a certain way, you know,
- 4:01because of that.
- 4:02He just,
- 4:02he did because that's the kind of
- 4:03person he was.
- 4:05What's interesting about
- 4:06that was we had just
- 4:08started working with the
- 4:08Morning Chalk Up.
- 4:09We were taking over the bottom line.
- 4:12That was our first interview.
- 4:13It was?
- 4:16I didn't know that.
- 4:17I didn't remember that until
- 4:18you said that.
- 4:20And I can tell because the
- 4:21thumbnail graphic is so bad.
- 4:25but we took over and we
- 4:28thought we had this super
- 4:29cool story of these two
- 4:30brothers making the games
- 4:32in the same year.
- 4:34And we were so excited to
- 4:36talk to them and how
- 4:37excited they were to talk
- 4:39to us was this really cool
- 4:42kind of vibe that we got from them.
- 4:45And they were laughing and
- 4:47giggling the entire interview.
- 4:50It was sweet.
- 4:51Um, and,
- 4:53and he did explain in that
- 4:54interview to us that he
- 4:57turned down the 2019 games
- 4:59because he wanted to be better prepared.
- 5:02And, uh, I thought that was,
- 5:04that was really cool of him.
- 5:06And it's, it's just a really cool memory.
- 5:09Um, but the other thing,
- 5:12and I mentioned this in my
- 5:13post during that time,
- 5:15Kat had asked him how to
- 5:17pronounce his name.
- 5:21And she still has that
- 5:23message from him where he
- 5:26did a voice memo telling us
- 5:28how to pronounce his name.
- 5:29You played it at dinner on
- 5:31Sunday night and it took
- 5:33everything in my being not
- 5:35to like completely lose it.
- 5:37Yeah.
- 5:38And I, it's, I had,
- 5:40I had gone back to my DMS
- 5:43on Friday to pull up.
- 5:45And I think I had posted
- 5:46like a little excerpt of him.
- 5:47I had said something like, love you,
- 5:48buddy.
- 5:49And it was after,
- 5:50the 2021 games and where he, you know,
- 5:52he didn't place as well as
- 5:53he thought he would.
- 5:54And he's like, thanks Kat.
- 5:56You know,
- 5:57and we were going to talk to him
- 5:58about a recap and things like that.
- 6:00And that's as far back as I went for,
- 6:02for whatever reason,
- 6:02I didn't go back very far.
- 6:03And then I was sitting with
- 6:04my friend Paul at the games
- 6:06on Saturday and he said, you know,
- 6:08you knew Lazar, like what, what kind of,
- 6:10what was your relationship like with him?
- 6:11And I said, well, you know,
- 6:12and I just kind of was showing him like,
- 6:14Oh, you know,
- 6:14we talked on Instagram and I
- 6:16was scrolling and then I
- 6:17started scrolling more.
- 6:18And I guess I didn't have
- 6:19service where I was the first time.
- 6:21And I was scrolling like 10
- 6:23times like down the page and,
- 6:25to the very first
- 6:26interaction where I saw
- 6:28that screen recording or
- 6:29the voice recording.
- 6:30And I knew as soon as I saw it,
- 6:32like the hair on the back
- 6:33of my neck stood up.
- 6:34Cause I was like, I have his voice.
- 6:36Like,
- 6:36and I didn't quite remember what the
- 6:38interaction was,
- 6:39but I listened to it for
- 6:39the first time sitting in this,
- 6:42in the stands.
- 6:42And I had the same reaction, Scott.
- 6:43It was just like,
- 6:44it brought back all these emotions like,
- 6:46Oh, cause then you hear him talking.
- 6:47And I remember how
- 6:48appreciative he was of that
- 6:49because still no one really, you know,
- 6:52not a whole lot of people
- 6:53say his name correctly.
- 6:54Um,
- 6:55And he didn't care, but you know,
- 6:57he didn't care.
- 6:58I'm I, I put that,
- 6:59I projected that onto all the athletes.
- 7:01I,
- 7:02cause I care when people mess up my name.
- 7:03And I think if you're going
- 7:04to say somebody's name,
- 7:05respect them enough to
- 7:06pronounce it correctly the
- 7:07way they would.
- 7:10And that was really cool.
- 7:11And I'm pretty sure I
- 7:12probably sent that to like
- 7:13Sean Woodland or something.
- 7:14Cause I remember I'd be
- 7:14listening to the broadcast
- 7:16and they would mess up the name.
- 7:17And I was probably the
- 7:18asshole sending them a note being like,
- 7:20Hey, this is how you say it.
- 7:21And I would record my own
- 7:22voice saying it the way they should.
- 7:25And I know the games does
- 7:27that at the beginning.
- 7:28They probably have everyone
- 7:29record their voice so the
- 7:30announcers know how to
- 7:31pronounce it correctly.
- 7:32But it gets lost in translation sometimes,
- 7:34I guess.
- 7:35But yeah, that was that was a cool thing.
- 7:38And I will cherish that.
- 7:40Right.
- 7:41It was really cool.
- 7:42And then I remember I think
- 7:44it was just that I think it
- 7:45was the three of us.
- 7:46Then we interviewed him.
- 7:49And we talked about later on, like, um,
- 7:51like a full interview and
- 7:52talked about Dubai, I think, and,
- 7:56and some of his, the other competitions.
- 7:58And then that's really when the first time,
- 8:00like I had the opportunity to,
- 8:01to engage with him virtually that way.
- 8:04And then the funny story
- 8:06from when we were at the
- 8:07games that I'll share.
- 8:10Was that, was that 2021?
- 8:1322.
- 8:14It was 2022.
- 8:14And, and to this day, one of my best,
- 8:18you know,
- 8:18prior to this tragedy happening
- 8:20was one of my best memories of the games.
- 8:22Yeah.
- 8:22So it was, so Kat and I were in the media
- 8:28Like we were in the seats,
- 8:31not down on the field or in the Coliseum,
- 8:34but it was the workout
- 8:36where they had to do single unders.
- 8:38And then if they, you know,
- 8:39made it through that, then it was the,
- 8:41you know, crossovers and all that.
- 8:44And the pegboard.
- 8:45Yeah.
- 8:45So like all of the athletes
- 8:46were literally like coming
- 8:47up and lining up in front
- 8:48of us and right in front of us.
- 8:51And he had turned around and
- 8:53he looked at us and, you know,
- 8:54started talking to us, you know, like, oh,
- 8:56hey, guys, how's it going?
- 8:57And I remember to do pull ups on the the
- 9:04The railing?
- 9:05The railing, yeah.
- 9:05He started doing pull-ups and he's like,
- 9:06I'm just trying to get that
- 9:08tennis elbow from happening.
- 9:10Got to get that worked out
- 9:11before I go into the pegboards.
- 9:13And then I remember afterwards,
- 9:16he came up to us and he was like,
- 9:17did I make it through?
- 9:20did I make it?
- 9:20And Kat and I were like,
- 9:22like right after he got off the floor,
- 9:24like he legit was hoping we
- 9:26were going to tell him whether, like,
- 9:27I thought we turned into
- 9:28his coaches for a second.
- 9:29I was like, wait, who are we?
- 9:31And I was like, I was like, I mean,
- 9:33we're coaches,
- 9:34but we're not games coaches.
- 9:38But it was just like, yeah, he was,
- 9:40we were trying to be so
- 9:41respectful of all the athletes.
- 9:43Like,
- 9:43even though we had interviewed so
- 9:44many that were in line there,
- 9:46we were like, listen, they're,
- 9:47they're in competition in the zone.
- 9:49Yeah.
- 9:49You're not engaging them.
- 9:50And he's just the one.
- 9:51Yeah.
- 9:51Got to do these pull-ups.
- 9:52Got to, got to work out that, that, uh,
- 9:55tennis elbow.
- 9:55And that,
- 9:57that just his smile and being excited,
- 9:59like to take the floor.
- 10:01Yeah.
- 10:01It was really cool.
- 10:03My, my final memory.
- 10:05And that was him all the time.
- 10:07Like whenever you ran into him,
- 10:09that was the,
- 10:11the vibe he gave off every time.
- 10:14And yeah,
- 10:16My final memory is in 2021,
- 10:18when he does finally go to the games,
- 10:21the event where they ran
- 10:23around Madison and then
- 10:26came in and did toes to bar
- 10:29and then sprinted to the end.
- 10:31He was winning that event.
- 10:33And in our recap show during
- 10:35the toes to bar, he fell off the bar.
- 10:41And then got up, finished,
- 10:42and then ended up coming in second.
- 10:45And he laughed at himself so
- 10:48much for falling off the bar.
- 10:51Like instead of like being
- 10:53upset about it or for
- 10:55Lauren that he didn't get
- 10:56an event win or he just was laughing.
- 10:59Like, can you believe it?
- 11:01Like of all times to lose my
- 11:03grip on a toes to bar.
- 11:06There it was.
- 11:07And, uh,
- 11:08And do you remember the
- 11:09event when he when he wore
- 11:11the Reeboks that Pat
- 11:12Villner got for him and he won the event?
- 11:15With Toes to Mark.
- 11:16Yeah, with Toes to Mark.
- 11:18That was in 2021.
- 11:19Yeah.
- 11:21Yeah.
- 11:22Very, very cool stories.
- 11:23And and I was looking back
- 11:25at our conversations.
- 11:26There was a time, as you recall, where.
- 11:29he didn't have a coach that
- 11:31was traveling with him.
- 11:32And do you remember we joked
- 11:33about like getting his
- 11:34coaches pass at one point in time?
- 11:36Cause I was like, Hey, if you,
- 11:37if you need somebody back there,
- 11:38cause you know,
- 11:39he wasn't going to have anybody there.
- 11:41His brother didn't qualify.
- 11:42I don't think anyone was
- 11:43going to support him.
- 11:44And there was,
- 11:46there was an exchange
- 11:46between us about something about like,
- 11:48who's, who's getting your pass.
- 11:49He's like, Oh, I got, you know,
- 11:50I got someone to take my pass.
- 11:51I'm like, Oh, okay.
- 11:52Darn.
- 11:55Yeah.
- 11:55Yeah.
- 11:58And I know we don't want any,
- 12:00there's not going to be any
- 12:01hate in this episode at all.
- 12:03This is about love.
- 12:05Lazar was always jovial,
- 12:07was always smiling, was always laughing.
- 12:10And that's what I want this
- 12:12show to be so that we can
- 12:14start to heal and we can
- 12:15start to move on.
- 12:18So the next thing I want to
- 12:19talk about is just the vibe at the arena.
- 12:22Because I think there's some
- 12:23misconceptions of what it
- 12:25was like to be there.
- 12:28And it was,
- 12:28and I'll let Kat tell her side as well,
- 12:32but when I was there and it all went down,
- 12:35I was there alone.
- 12:37Kat hadn't got there yet.
- 12:40It all happened.
- 12:42And when it all happened, I felt stuck.
- 12:45I felt like I couldn't go anywhere.
- 12:48And I want to thank Grant, Kipping It Real,
- 12:52and Amanda Hari for just
- 12:57teaming up to get through this weekend.
- 13:01Because I watched the first
- 13:05event from my hotel room
- 13:06because I got in late and
- 13:07couldn't get media passes.
- 13:09Yeah.
- 13:10When I found out what happened,
- 13:12I rushed to the venue to
- 13:13get the media passes just
- 13:15to find out next steps.
- 13:17And it took everything I
- 13:18could do to get there.
- 13:19I can't imagine the stress
- 13:22that you had just getting there.
- 13:23Because I know I was on an
- 13:24airplane when it was all happening.
- 13:27And I paid for the Wi-Fi so
- 13:29that I could stay connected.
- 13:30And it wasn't working properly.
- 13:32And I was getting texts from
- 13:33some people and not from
- 13:35others and trying to get updates.
- 13:36And you feel so helpless.
- 13:38I wish...
- 13:40I wished I was there.
- 13:43And so I get into the venue.
- 13:45I go to the media room.
- 13:48And again,
- 13:49thank you so much for Grant and
- 13:51Amanda for that.
- 13:53We finally hear they're
- 13:54going to cancel everything.
- 13:56But there was no
- 13:57communication for a while.
- 13:59Like there was nothing going on.
- 14:00And it just made it more
- 14:05intense and somber and
- 14:07everything in that moment.
- 14:08And then when everything was canceled,
- 14:10we had to be out of the
- 14:11arena like fairly quickly.
- 14:15So we went to a coffee shop
- 14:17and just kind of hung out
- 14:18to kind of talk through it.
- 14:20And at that point,
- 14:21we didn't know what was happening.
- 14:23And we didn't know if it was
- 14:24going to go on or not.
- 14:26What were we going to do?
- 14:27We're all stuck there.
- 14:28We can't get other flights
- 14:29out until Monday.
- 14:31And all this while being
- 14:34extremely sad and trying to
- 14:38process it all.
- 14:41Kat, you finally get there Thursday night.
- 14:43You're too late to get any
- 14:44kind of media pass.
- 14:46Yeah.
- 14:46So you can't even get to
- 14:48anything until the next day.
- 14:49The next day comes, everything starts,
- 14:53and it's just not the same.
- 14:55I understand why they move forward.
- 14:57I understand why some people left.
- 15:04I take nothing away from
- 15:05anybody that made a choice
- 15:08because it was just tough.
- 15:10Thursday,
- 15:10if I could have jumped on a plane
- 15:11and got home to my family,
- 15:13I would have done that.
- 15:16Yeah.
- 15:18And I don't even know if
- 15:19that would have been the right choice.
- 15:21I don't even know if I would
- 15:23have regretted it or whatever.
- 15:27But anyway, we get through it.
- 15:30And I felt like at that point,
- 15:34all I could do was love on
- 15:35the athletes because I knew
- 15:37they were hurting.
- 15:39And the only way I could
- 15:40show love is to be there
- 15:41and support them.
- 15:43But I chose to go silent.
- 15:46This was not a point to
- 15:48throw up a bunch of social media stuff.
- 15:50This was not a point to do shows.
- 15:52You couldn't analyze what
- 15:54was on the floor because
- 15:54you didn't know how bad any
- 15:56of the athletes were hurting.
- 15:58And so when you see someone do...
- 16:00Burpee's not as fast as they normally do.
- 16:03You can't even be critical of that, right?
- 16:06And so that's why we went
- 16:09radio silent for the weekend.
- 16:11And I just loved on
- 16:13everybody that I had the
- 16:14opportunity to love on.
- 16:18Because the spectators were hurting,
- 16:20the volunteers were hurting,
- 16:22the athletes were hurting.
- 16:25and I know there were some
- 16:26comments about like,
- 16:27everything's back to normal.
- 16:28The music's loud.
- 16:30It was not normal.
- 16:32It was the farthest thing from normal.
- 16:35Yeah.
- 16:36It was, it was, and I never, you know,
- 16:41these events,
- 16:42you look forward to seeing your friends,
- 16:44you know,
- 16:44the people that you don't see very often.
- 16:45And for me,
- 16:46it had been two years since I'd
- 16:47been to the game.
- 16:48So I was really,
- 16:49I didn't go to any semifinals.
- 16:50I was really excited, you know, to,
- 16:53to see people again and,
- 16:54when I did it was you know
- 16:56just a somber hug it was
- 16:58just a hug no words and
- 16:59this we kind of just moved
- 17:00forward it didn't even feel
- 17:02right to say like hey how
- 17:03you doing or oh it's been
- 17:05it's great to see you like
- 17:06you don't know what to say
- 17:08um and and for us at least
- 17:10my role there at the games
- 17:12just kind of evaporated
- 17:14which which was fine like I
- 17:15didn't care that I didn't
- 17:17get to do what I wanted to
- 17:18do when I got there but it
- 17:19was just I just kind of
- 17:21became a spectator at that
- 17:22point in time and I felt
- 17:25I felt bad for not taking
- 17:27advantage of the
- 17:28credentials I had to do a
- 17:29job that maybe I was supposed to do,
- 17:31but I didn't feel
- 17:32comfortable doing that job.
- 17:33So I didn't know what to do.
- 17:35You know,
- 17:36I wasn't about to throw a mic in
- 17:37an athlete's face and ask
- 17:38them how they felt because
- 17:40I w I wouldn't know what to say.
- 17:42And that's not to take away
- 17:43anybody that did that.
- 17:44I understand that, you know,
- 17:46people did behind the
- 17:46scenes and all that.
- 17:47I don't, I didn't have that kind of access,
- 17:49um, nor was that, um, you know,
- 17:51my role that weekend.
- 17:54Um,
- 17:54but I didn't even,
- 17:55I didn't even really take many photos.
- 17:58I think,
- 17:58I think I took like two photos on
- 18:00my iPhone and maybe like a
- 18:01hundred on my camera where
- 18:03normally it would be thousands, um,
- 18:06to sift through.
- 18:07Cause I just felt like I
- 18:09didn't have a purpose and I'm,
- 18:10and I'm not like, Oh,
- 18:11what was me because of it?
- 18:12Like it just, that's, that's what it was.
- 18:14I didn't know what else to do.
- 18:16Um, it just became very, very odd.
- 18:21Um,
- 18:21even the way we interacted with people
- 18:23and,
- 18:24I know we didn't get to like the last day,
- 18:25but at the last night when
- 18:27I was getting ready to leave,
- 18:28this young woman came up
- 18:29out of the stands and Mike
- 18:31and I were getting ready to leave.
- 18:33And she came up to me and she said, hi,
- 18:34I'm by myself.
- 18:37Can I have a hug?
- 18:39And I just like started
- 18:41crying and I gave her a hug and I said,
- 18:43you know, where are you from?
- 18:44And of course you can have a hug.
- 18:46And she's like, you look like nice people.
- 18:47I just need like somebody to talk to.
- 18:49She was from Oklahoma.
- 18:50And, you know, she didn't know.
- 18:53who I was,
- 18:53I was just a person in the
- 18:57audience to her, but it was so sweet.
- 18:59And I thought like, can you,
- 19:00I can't imagine spending
- 19:01the whole weekend there by myself.
- 19:04You know,
- 19:05the fact that my boyfriend came
- 19:06with me and Scott was there and, you know,
- 19:08I know so many people in the,
- 19:09in the environment to be
- 19:11able to lean on and talk to.
- 19:12And I had friends from
- 19:13another gym in Maryland
- 19:14here that had a whole row of seats and,
- 19:17you know, we talked, but, oh, I just,
- 19:20yeah, it was crappy.
- 19:23last thing I'm going to say
- 19:24is um I'm so glad that
- 19:26kara's team won because the
- 19:31the speeches that they made
- 19:33were what we needed to hear
- 19:34in the arena I don't know
- 19:36how it went over um on the
- 19:39stream and all of that but
- 19:41in the arena we needed to
- 19:43hear kara say it's okay to
- 19:46have multiple emotions yeah
- 19:50We're human and you can be
- 19:52sad and you can be happy
- 19:54and you can love on people.
- 19:57And want change.
- 19:58And like Megan says up here,
- 20:02can't we be angry that it
- 20:03happened while also
- 20:04supporting the athletes?
- 20:05Grieve with those who are
- 20:06hurting and ask for accountability. 100%.
- 20:12So the part I want to leave
- 20:15it with today is kind of like,
- 20:17where do we go from here, right?
- 20:19And as a sports fan who's
- 20:21been around several sports,
- 20:24I just want to give some context, right?
- 20:28There have been deaths in a lot of sports,
- 20:32both on the fan side and
- 20:34the athlete side.
- 20:35At the Tour de France last year,
- 20:37there were cyclists that
- 20:38died during the race.
- 20:41Dale Earnhardt at NASCAR
- 20:44dies during a race.
- 20:46The legend of the sport dies
- 20:48during a race.
- 20:50There have been people in
- 20:51other sports that have
- 20:52passed away during the event.
- 20:55And they've all moved on,
- 20:56but not without massive change.
- 21:01Right.
- 21:02It is obvious from social
- 21:04media that the athletes
- 21:07want a voice now and it is, and they have,
- 21:11they are now empowered to
- 21:13have that voice.
- 21:14Well, and just to add one piece on that.
- 21:16And I think the other big
- 21:17piece is that not about
- 21:19necessarily moving forward,
- 21:20but people don't want it to be forgotten.
- 21:23They don't want,
- 21:24lazar to be forgotten and I
- 21:27think that that's an
- 21:27important piece to that
- 21:29like yes keep talking about
- 21:31him keep keep bringing it
- 21:33up don't let it be
- 21:34forgotten right yeah the
- 21:37key point is nothing ever
- 21:39gets solved with hate right
- 21:43we need to be constructive
- 21:45and we need to move forward
- 21:47here in columbus a little
- 21:48girl died at a hockey game
- 21:51And immediately,
- 21:52immediately netting went up
- 21:54behind the goals on both
- 21:56sides of the arena so that
- 21:59pucks could not get to the stands, right?
- 22:06Someone died at a baseball game.
- 22:09Now there's netting the
- 22:10entire way down both the
- 22:12first and third baselines
- 22:16at baseball games.
- 22:18There has to be massive change.
- 22:21There has to be.
- 22:22And now I think the PFAA is
- 22:27probably going to be as
- 22:29strong as it's ever been,
- 22:32probably tenfold.
- 22:37Yeah.
- 22:38So I am cool with moving forward,
- 22:41but there has to be change.
- 22:43And I believe there's no
- 22:45option other than that.
- 22:49Yep.
- 22:51Yeah, I agree.
- 22:52And, and, you know, and,
- 22:53and maybe we can have a
- 22:55show where we talk about that, like what,
- 22:57what people's proposed changes are,
- 22:59because they're not, there's no bad ideas,
- 23:01right?
- 23:02And I'm not saying we need
- 23:03to be critical of what's going on, or,
- 23:05you know,
- 23:05call for resignations of people and,
- 23:08and litigation and all that,
- 23:09but just like have a little
- 23:11roundtable of like, what,
- 23:12What would you do?
- 23:13How would you change?
- 23:15Cause I think that's
- 23:16important for us to talk through and,
- 23:17you know,
- 23:18probably somebody's got some
- 23:19good ideas and I'm sure
- 23:22maybe not wholesale,
- 23:23but a lot of them may or
- 23:24may not get implemented as we go forward,
- 23:26assuming that we do go
- 23:27forward with the sport.
- 23:29But I'd be curious, you know, that to me,
- 23:31that's just my curious
- 23:32brain of like trying to fix things.
- 23:33Like what, what would we do to change?
- 23:35And, you know,
- 23:36I've spoken to some people
- 23:37like off the record that
- 23:38have been in medical before and, you know,
- 23:41been in the event,
- 23:42space in CrossFit that have, you know,
- 23:45really strong opinions
- 23:46about what happened or
- 23:48really strong opinions
- 23:49about how things could improve.
- 23:52And I think that's a
- 23:53constructive conversation
- 23:54that we could have maybe at a later date.
- 23:57Because I do think it's
- 23:58going to be quite some time before,
- 24:01you know,
- 24:01we find out details about what
- 24:03happened and investigations
- 24:05and all of that.
- 24:08Andrew, go ahead.
- 24:11If the games continue,
- 24:12there will be changes for sure.
- 24:13I think it's 50-50 whether
- 24:14the games continue because
- 24:16you know there will be a
- 24:17big civil lawsuit.
- 24:19We don't know what that is.
- 24:20There are still facts to be determined.
- 24:26There is an independent
- 24:27investigation going on.
- 24:28There is a police investigation going on.
- 24:31We do not know any of those
- 24:33facts or findings at this point.
- 24:36I believe that it's more of
- 24:37a 90-10 that the games go on.
- 24:40From all other sports.
- 24:44So in the same weekend,
- 24:46two people died during the
- 24:48Ironman triathlon in Madison, Wisconsin.
- 24:52That is a very common thing
- 24:54to happen during a triathlon.
- 24:57Ironman has not gone away.
- 24:58Yeah.
- 25:03um and I've mentioned other
- 25:06sports where that's
- 25:07happened and it they didn't
- 25:09even stop like the tour de
- 25:10france didn't even stop so
- 25:18um I think it will go on
- 25:21but it it will go on and it
- 25:23did there at the very
- 25:25minimum there will be a
- 25:26safety council that will
- 25:29have to approve all the
- 25:30events in my opinion
- 25:37Yeah.
- 25:37And, you know,
- 25:38and I don't think any of us
- 25:39want to see it go away.
- 25:41I mean, we're all, you know,
- 25:43we're here because we love the sport.
- 25:46We make a lot of sacrifices to cover it.
- 25:48We, you know,
- 25:48we use our own money to get
- 25:50there at being a former volunteer,
- 25:51you know, people spend a lot of money to,
- 25:55to do this and we love the
- 25:56athletes and we love the
- 25:57sports and all that.
- 25:58And I think we want to see it succeed.
- 26:00At least I do.
- 26:01I want to see it succeed.
- 26:02And I want to be part of the solution and,
- 26:05and not part of sort of breaking it down.
- 26:10Um, if that's possible.
- 26:14While also remembering and
- 26:17talking about Lazar and yes, yes.
- 26:19Keeping him, keeping him in the forefront.
- 26:22And both of those things can happen.
- 26:24I mean, I hate, I'll be honest with you.
- 26:27I hate that he is now going
- 26:28to become the poster child
- 26:29for safety at the games.
- 26:31Like that sucks.
- 26:33Um,
- 26:34because he's so much more than that.
- 26:36And that,
- 26:37that's kind of why I feel like
- 26:40separating the two sometimes, you know,
- 26:42like having this discussion
- 26:44was great and being able to
- 26:45talk about it.
- 26:45But I do,
- 26:46I do think it's important that we
- 26:48talk about some potential
- 26:50solutions to the problem while,
- 26:53while still maintaining his honor,
- 26:57which is not going to be easy.
- 26:59Yeah.
- 27:00No, this is going to be easy.
- 27:02No.
- 27:04I didn't want this to be a
- 27:06long show today.
- 27:07I just wanted to kind of get
- 27:08through these comments we wanted to make.
- 27:13And again,
- 27:14we'll continue to talk about
- 27:15Lazar and carry his memory forward.
- 27:21Yeah,
- 27:22and we should try to pull up some
- 27:24clips and things and just
- 27:25sort of celebrate him as we
- 27:27can and space him out.
- 27:28I don't want this whole week
- 27:30to be all about it and then
- 27:31a month from now we're
- 27:33not talking about it.
- 27:34So we'll try to keep up that
- 27:36cadence if we can.
- 27:38Yeah.
- 27:39Thank you everybody for joining us.
- 27:41Um, it's been a tough weekend, um,
- 27:45but I'm ready to heal.
- 27:46I'm ready to,
- 27:48to get back to some normalcy.
- 27:50Um,
- 27:51but I know that that's going to take
- 27:53months for that to happen.
- 27:57Well,
- 27:57we'll see you next week guys on the
- 27:59Clydesdale media round table.
- 28:01Love you guys.
- 28:02Bye.
