- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's up everybody.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome on in.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's that time of the week.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: The suitors on SI podcast here on a massive, never-ending week.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: If you see some tired eyes, some bags, some of the eyes for watching this on YouTube, it's because the calendar is overflow, we had four of the region stuff.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: We had massive press cards, this is a Norman preview in Oklahoma, Alabama.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: We have like 5,000 women's basketball, men's basketball games, signing days today, which I just forgot was a thing.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: Now that we're in the revshare, uh, uh, financial aid agreement, era, all that and more rolling through.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'm right shot with here, as always, we got Hube, 911 Hube, John Hube, or the band of the legend.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: How are you holding that?
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: Because some of us are running around like crazy,
- 0:58[SPEAKER_02]: And we got a major road game coming up with four of us going to be in the car at some point.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_02]: You're all coming up here and we're going to launch from Tulsa.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, we only got 18 hours in the car in front of us.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_02]: It makes for a short week.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_02]: So let's get it done.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get it done.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: Indeed, we've got our man, Carson Field, who was at my cast and field house last night, we'll hit all that little bit later, Carson, how are you?
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: Doing great, like you guys said, a little bit tiring this week, a lot of stuff going on, but that's just the beauty of this job, very excited for Tuscalooset, it's gonna be fun.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: Then the man were leaving behind.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: We told him, sorry dog, that it's cars only big enough for the one of us when it comes to Ryan's.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: Ryan, Aver, my friend, you uh, you started your week off now.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's a little bit different for me.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: I have the quick turnaround, but you got the luxury of the 930 PM Women's Basketball Monday tip off nothing sets a week back like a 930 Monday game.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no kidding, but it was a was a fun game to watch.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_03]: Even though it didn't go, oh, use way there at the end, but you know, got some flashes at least to the Lea Chavez and how good she can be, you know, we got to see Lauren Bets versus Reagan Bears.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_03]: And all that stuff, and then, you know, the Seniors get back home.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_03]: We're talking on Wednesday afternoon so that get back home Wednesday night for the first of a couple of home games this week.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_03]: So, should be a fun one.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we got game against whom KCD tonight field trip day on Friday.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: We're Ryan Aver will bring the ear plugs and I hope that Oklahoma gets to like 65 and hits a three as you've seen.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then the hoops, squads, Western Carolina on Sunday for the living.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you Nebraska, you don't want to hit a two at 65.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: And if I were on the OSU beat, I would have advocated for J.C. Hoyt who's done a great job to be fired for burning a time out when they get to 67 because that looked like absolute misery.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: But when all the hoops here at the end, let's actually start with the, it's football, but it's not related to all you and Alabama.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: Let's start with the board of regents happenings of the week.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: And then we can work our way into Oklahoma and Alabama.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: Brady Tray at the United, we're hanging out.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: at the medical center library or the library at the OU Health Science Center in OKC yesterday because it was border regions time and a couple of big time athletics items were on the agenda.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: Let's start football, then we'll go baseball, Oklahoma approves.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: The west side project is we're just going to call it basically big facelift to the west side tons of sweets going in amenities improvements, pressbox all that fun stuff talking to Josie afterwards.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: It also allows Oklahoma to kind of evaluate how can Oklahoma's stadium become.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: Even more of an event stadium not just for football, which is obviously massively important, but get that bad boy role in construction Scheduled to tentatively begin at the conclusion of the twenty twenty seven.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you football season is going to be a project kind of like um
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not exactly like what you've seen at Vanderbilt and at Missouri, those are construction projects that have gone on during the season and had cranes and stuff in one in zone, but this is not going to be just a one-off season thing, it's going to affect things for a little bit during the 28 season, but then it'll be all done, all shiny, all new, who've been able both, so you guys have covered the majority of jokes to Glyone's 10-year-old Oklahoma,
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: He's had the east side project with Gail Lord family open Memorial Stadium.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: He's had the south in zone bold in nowhere to run when you're surrounded by the best.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: And one of the most intro videos that Oklahoma has ever put out there.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: It also helped it.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: They just weren't good that year.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, and then you have now the west side who I asked Joe see about this.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: He was very adamant that I'm not going to talk about it, but Joe Harris talked about Joe, basically, on an in kind of what he's done.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: This is going to be one of the last thing like this.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's not just hiring Bob suits for the football program back, but taking a historic stadium and modernizing it in a way that is not often a given around the country has anybody seen rendering it.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: There are renderings.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: There will be new renderings, though.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: The renderings that were put out there when they adopted the master plan in 2014.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's not going to be too far away from that, but there are new renderings.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: They are just getting baseball some time to have it's love with the baseline.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_02]: The follow-up question is, is there an actual upper deck?
- 5:25[SPEAKER_02]: or is what we're looking at right now going to be expanded out.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_02]: Do we know what's going to happen to the parking garage?
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: My expectation, I don't know what's happening on the back side.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: My expectation is you're going to see a press box, upper deck, sweets kind of in between the first and second level, and then some field level sweets as well.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: That's my expectation on it.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: I've not seen the new renderings though, so
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, also declined to talk about the capacity, the seating capacity.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: We don't know what that's going to be.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't want to overshoot and have a 95,000, 100,000 seat stadium and have empty seats on lean years.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: We all know that.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: But there's also a 10,000, or there has been for the last 25 years, a 10th, I don't know what the waiting list is now.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_02]: But the waiting list for tickets has been in the 10,000 range for several years, 10,000, 12,000 even.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a demand for you tickets as long as all you football is really good.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: If all you football's going six and six, there's got to be a hesitancy to expand the seating, the capacity.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_02]: So that's something that I'm sure they're in high, high-level meetings right now.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: Think about that.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_02]: We want an SEC stadium, but we don't want any empty seats.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: You know, how are they going to kind of balance that?
- 6:37[SPEAKER_02]: Knowing that this is going to be a 25-year looking down the road in the future, and be a debt-toot-toot-toot-toot-toot-toot-toot-toot-toot-toot-toot-toot-toot-toot-toot-toot-toot.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think though when you look at the the way that college sports is going, I think it's much more about the experience versus the experience for the fans who are there versus just the rock capacity numbers.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_03]: you know, hitting six digits is flashy.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_03]: It draws headlines, things like that.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_03]: But when you can charge a premium price for those sweets for the boxes, especially like the boxes that we've seen in a south in zone, things like that,
- 7:17[SPEAKER_03]: I think the value of that goes up.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_03]: There was a lot of consternation when they did some of those other projects about the seeding capacity actually dipping down, you know, it's not going to surprise me if it's not a jump or even a big jump.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_03]: But, I think it's going to be much more about that fan experience and what the people who are in the stadium, you know, the environment that they have, and also the selling point of, you know, for recruits, hey, we can bring in all this money that's going to be funneled towards you, the student athlete.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_03]: So it's a different world now, it's not just about raw numbers.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_02]: uh... but uh... you know that'll be interesting to see how that ultimately shakes out yet and i'll i'll have this real quick to joe kostiglin and i had a conversation i want to say it was around twenty nineteen maybe twenty eighteen where they had just uh... they did uh... laid open plans to set here uh... you know was twenty sixteen uh... he was like uh... here's what we're going to do with the red room here's what we're going to do with uh... you know the player amenities and here's what the new facilities and i was like joe
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: didn't you just redo the red room about five or six years going he he was like yeah I did and he what he was he was kind of angsty about was the the future being you know there were all these lawsuits in the pipeline at the time the future was hey at some point we're going to start paying the players at some point they're going to start earning their NIL stuff this was a little bit just a little bit before NIL actually became a word
- 8:56[SPEAKER_02]: And he was like, he was really expressing some anxiety a little bit about we've been building these fantastic, palatial palaces for these student athletes for generations.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_02]: So like, like, we bring them into unrecruiting trips and say, look at our fancy stuff.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_02]: Isn't that amazing?
- 9:14[SPEAKER_02]: Don't you want to play here?
- 9:15[SPEAKER_02]: And now it's about paying the players themselves.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_02]: So, so they're knocking on doors, getting donations, right, from fans.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: And then having a raise ticket prices, just because of cost of living and everything else, right?
- 9:28[SPEAKER_02]: But you're not going on doors for donations for all these facilities.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_02]: Now you don't get donations for facilities anymore.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you do.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_02]: We're getting ready to talk about one of them.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: But you get donations for NIL.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: And you get donations for revenue sharing.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: And what happened to all those, all that money that was going to facilities.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_02]: Now there's more spending.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, athletic directors everywhere were going to do.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_02]: What do you want to give to the university?
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to give an A.L.?
- 9:54[SPEAKER_02]: For players, do you want to have your name on part of the stadium?
- 9:58[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I think it's also why we're going to a more business model on the administrator role.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, we see what Randall Stevenson has done with the football program and you know, it'll be interesting to see how this athletic director search plays out and ultimately what background that that choice has.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_03]: But it's certainly not going to surprise me if it either is Randall Stevenson.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_03]: Or if it's another guy with a business background because you have to know how to manage all of those different pots in a way that you really didn't have to do before before it was just about facilities and paying coaches and now it's about so much more.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you're right.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be looking forward to seeing what Carson, let's hear from you on this on this topic before I start going off on some tangent.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm curious to see what the final rendering looks like.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they could go the approach of what we've seen from programs like say Baylor just not necessarily add to the add seats to the experience, but just make it so much nicer.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: And that's kind of the direction I see this fan base going.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: Because like you guys mentioned, it's going to be hard to fill up that mini seats.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: The metro area is not as huge as, say, Austin, Texas is.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: Brian College Station being so close to Austin Dallas, Houston, having three cities like that.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: So close.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's tangibly going to be harder to fit all fill all 105, however many they decide to do in a stadium that big.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe they just go for a nicer fan experience.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know,
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, and fuel is a great place to wash a college football place.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: I have been blessed to go to a lot of good stadiums and, oh, uses right near the top, but if they made it even nicer, made it a little more 20, 25, I mean, you can see it becoming one of the more premier, premier venues in the SEC, which that's not part of clear.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'll tell you this, it's going to be, it's going to be first class.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever they do on the west side, press box, sweetseal, that stuff is going to be as good as anybody in the country.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_02]: That's just a user-eason history.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, I was just thinking somewhere probably in this room where I'm sitting I've got the renderings from 2014 when they gave us a big packet of the master plan renderings when the the east side started or I guess it was at the south in zone.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_03]: Southin's own that started the first of a couple of phases, three phases of that project.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_03]: So, I'll have to dig those out sometime soon, should have done it this week, to see what they thought it was then and then be able to compare it to what this ultimately looks like now.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_03]: Let's just keep on the
- 12:49[SPEAKER_03]: the stadium renovation list, also a big announcement about baseball on Tuesday as Ryan Chapman pointed out.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen the OU's sawpball, the stadium obviously gave massive upgrade with their their leap into love's field, but now baseball not the same kind of jump, but certainly a significant step forward.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you got to love the corporate dollars that loves put up at a think of final figure round about $43, $44 million.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_02]: Brian Kimmery and the Kimmery family comes along from Barsville and says, here's another $15 million they've already donated a ton of money.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_02]: Well, now you've got the L-L-Dale Mitchell Park that they all as they've been calling it in recent generations is now going to be called the
- 13:40[SPEAKER_02]: Kimory family baseball stadium baseball silly soon for something.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: So Kimory family stadium stadium just stadium so that's pretty cool um because that thing has lagged and lagged and lagged.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_02]: You guys saw what happened at Alipie Reynolds Stadium in Civil Waterman.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: It was the the word I mean you know I love I love a good old stadium.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'm one of those dudes it's hey let's go to the the polar grounds in New York you know right I wish we could go back and see some of those old ones but
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: Allipie was a dump for about 20 years before they finally replaced it with the Obray Stadium and now it's one of the best in the country, right?
- 14:18[SPEAKER_02]: So it's so overdue at Oklahoma for the baseball facility to catch up, not be the best in the country, just catch up with everybody else and they've done a good job of kind of peace mailing it here and there, you know, taking what donations they could get.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: and making it better and skip has done a great job keeping the baseball program good and relevant and making people want to donate.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_02]: So shout out, skip.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_02]: But boy, it has lag behind.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: When you go to the SEC and you see some of those other stadiums, I mean, baseball stadiums, holy cow.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_03]: You and I have spent spent time up in Fentville at Arkansas Stadium, which is, you know,
- 15:02[SPEAKER_03]: Sweets all down the lines down the first and third baseline.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_03]: We know about, you know, Alex Box stadium obviously down in Baton Rouge, you know, you think about Starkville in the facilities that they have there and just on and on and on Tennessee and you just have to make a significant upgrade because, you know, in the Big 12,
- 15:26[SPEAKER_03]: They weren't the worst probably, certainly weren't the best, but they were at least in the same ballpark as most of them, but now that you make the jump to the SEC, there's no comparison, and we knew they would have to make it up, great, but this is a very significant one.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: And it's, I find that it's an interesting juxtaposition, because while there is stuff going into Kimory Family Stadium for the fans,
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: The football renovations to me is all about, how do you maximize your, first off, just modernize the West side, but how do you maximize your bottom line?
- 16:03[SPEAKER_01]: As far as revshare, make as much money as possible off the sweets that can go back in.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's something that Joe Harris talked about, President Joe Harris, in the joke, sickly owned retirement press conference, right?
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: That he came with this East side plan.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: Joe Harris is like, this is never gonna work and it's paid for itself over and over again.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_01]: For baseball, this is as much about the nuts and bolts of the performance center and all of the things, it's kind of an old school facilities project of skip Johnson needs the guts underneath Kim Ray Family State.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: He needs the new performance center.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: He needs the new hitting lab and all the technology to stay level with the rest of the SEC baseball programs because while David Boren was turning Oklahoma into the real estate project
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: Football got it, it's due, but softball fell behind, Jim fell behind.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_01]: LDL has never been touch, you saw love's field, you saw the gymnastics facilities, tough like that.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost like for facilities, Oklahoma outside of football has been cramming to try and catch up.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: And this is long overdue, especially for what skip does.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: He's just a an assembly line, a factory of MLB pictures.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: They've come through and competed, getting to Omaha, all that stuff.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's long overdue for skip and getting that together.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, don't be 37th and innings pitched and that might help as well, but a Norman kid, we love Kate Horton, but I think that this is like massive, like legitimately massive for the baseball program.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think that the stadium project for football is massive for
- 17:36[SPEAKER_01]: modernizing the west side.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if we're going to see that have an impact on like the on field product over the next four to five years.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think that this baseball thing is going to be massive cars and for just recruiting in the SEC and everything that skit needs to keep up with the Joneses in the primary baseball conference in America.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's huge.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like you guys said, wasn't necessarily a bad place to watch a game, a bad place to play a game, but you look at duty-enobile field and Starkville, Olson Field and College Station.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: All of these bomb stadium and Fayetteville.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, all of these more or less cathedrals in college baseball, Oklahoma really was falling behind.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_00]: And this is a program that baseball.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like just about every sport the SEC is doing good at baseball and OU to level up with this competition and the SEC, all of these teams that are perennial Omaha travelers, I mean, they needed to match the competition, get up to the level of some of these programs that I just mentioned that have similarly like OU has been in recent memory, making the National Championship series a few years ago.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's about time that they got the facilities to match the potential, everything good that's happened in this program in the last decade or so.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, it's huge for the program trying to keep up with all of these other teams in the SEC that have, they've already been through it in the SEC.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: They've already had time to renovate their stadiums, level up to, okay, I need to be as good as this program that program.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's big for the program.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: And it'll be big on forward.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's a two-phase project for baseball.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: And this is basically phase one of the major major facelift getting going.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I just want to add one thing.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_03]: One of my favorite things about the renderings.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_03]: And the outfield environment has been one that has grown around OU baseball during the skip Johnson era.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, that's a lot of times been outside of the gates.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_03]: But the fact that it looks like the fence is going to be transparent, so you can have people sit behind that, they'll have to be inside the stadium, paying tickets for that, but I thought that was a nice addition to at least be able to keep up some of that same vibe in the new place.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_01]: should be really awesome once that gets fully roll in here.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_01]: So excited for that.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_01]: That'll cap off our border regions fun having that we had on Tuesday, more to come.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: The next step for both of those, I think it's officially rubber stamping the construction programs, all that stuff, or construction firms, projects for the football, just like the onset that you might see as that stuff gets approved, what they call, I've got the exact word, but it's basically, they have to do some work around the stadium
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: the construction process that's going to happen post 27.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_02]: So you're not going to really feel it at risk construction management or something like that.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a basically they have to do some work on the outside to get everything ready for when post 2027 season the whole construction project starts in full swing.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: So should be good there, and it just kind of feels fitting that all of that stuff the localma feels like it needs to stay competing at the top comes this week when Oklahoma and Alabama are getting ready to square off in a massive college football game in Tuscaloosa.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: The second trip for Oklahoma as a program to Tuscaloosin as we saw with the CFP rankings last night.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: The sooner it's sitting at 11, Alabama at four, no major shocks.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: BYU loses, just gets slotted below Oklahoma.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: But there's a lot of chaos that could still happen.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: But right now, if you had said hypothetically before the season, if Oklahoma goes to the night in three and those last three detects, a top 10 Ole Miss and Alabama that they might still have a shot with their resume things like that.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: The way that things were shaken out right now, the sooner this break event was kind of said on the conference called the day instead of worried about comparing resumes just win and you're going to take care of itself and if not then you didn't win enough games this is where it kind of starts because of Oklahoma wins John they put themselves in fantastic position with a hurt Missouri team and an LSU team that might be in the wilderness in two weeks we'll see that would be the rest of the way there but it it starts with you got to get it done to us glue so you can stay very very
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I think I saw on the on the reveal show or whatever they call on it last night that Heather, I think was Heather Denich that said, yeah, pretty sure was that said, this is, you know, like a play in game for local has the potential to be like a play in game for Oklahoma if they win this game, they're in if they lose this one and finish nine and three they could be pretty much eliminated.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_02]: And I know she knows what she's talking about.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_02]: She's been dealing with the playoff selection committee since it started in 2014.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_02]: And she's absolutely the authority.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't think about it, guys.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_02]: And a nine-way, a nine-and-three Oklahoma team with let's just call it what it is.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_02]: The three quality losses that they have, that would be three top 10 losses.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_02]: I think they'll be very forgiving of those three top 10 losses.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_02]: I think they would, and the committee chair last night talked about,
- 22:46[SPEAKER_02]: uh... john material and on the press conference talked about yet we knew that he is thum was hurt and that he had had surgery against Texas in the reason one of the reasons they lost to Texas was because the quarterback was out we not out but that limited
- 23:01[SPEAKER_02]: he understood and and the committee is aware of these things.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a there's a moment of building for an Oklahoma finishing middle of the pack in the SEC upper middle of the pack at nine and three to get in the playoff.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_02]: I really do so I don't think this is necessarily an elimination game per safer Oklahoma if they win and get to you know are able to sustain that and get to ten and two they're in.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_02]: Lock stock and barrel.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's no no debate, but at nine and three, I think it becomes an inch.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_02]: You start comparing everybody's resumes.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I have a great respect for Heather Denny.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_03]: She does a great job, but just got on the ESPN Playoff predictor, which is fun to mess around with.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_03]: And you type in, oh, you losing two Alabama this weekend, and then beating Missouri and LSU, what do you think their chances are of still making the playoff according to that predictor?
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: I have to absorb myself because I know that there's a weird quirk in the playoff predictor that is interesting actually.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_03]: 45.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_03]: You're really close.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_03]: 44 percent.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_03]: Says the playoff predictor.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_03]: Pretty strong.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not saying, you know, that if they win this week, they're all right, and they can just cruise through those last couple of weeks.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_03]: And if they win those, they're definitely in.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_03]: But the way that this season is shaping up, the way that owe you schedule has shaped up,
- 24:27[SPEAKER_03]: the way that the ACC hasn't done what some of us thought they might before the season you know Miami's had its struggles who makes it out of the ACC do they even make it are they one of the six that you know finishes up there especially if Duke were to win that conference you know who the group of five teams are so it's fascinating that that percentage is still that high
- 24:54[SPEAKER_03]: In my mind, it's not quite that high.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_03]: I wouldn't put it that high.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_03]: But there's at least a good shot that this is the year that the three loss team finally breaks through.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_03]: I say, finally, breaks through.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that's fair.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_02]: I think we're projecting as much as we can to the end of the season.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: And here's the thing, guys.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_02]: It's coming up on middle of November.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: We have had almost zero chaos yet.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_02]: college football thrives on chaos is born in the chaos, and we've had nothing, you know, last week, Oklahoma was at 12, 10 of the 12 teams in front of them one, nothing happened.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the one that didn't lost and they jumped them and the other one didn't play.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_02]: So that's something that, you know, hey, guys, it's coming.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_02]: This, this no stormy winter is coming.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: So buckle up.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_03]: I think this is the law.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_03]: There's some chaos early in the season.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we saw a four to state beat Alabama and fall off the face of the earth.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_03]: We saw what happened with Penn State.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, heck, LSU, elsewhere.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the other programs.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_03]: I think a lot of the chaos has already happened, but it's not over.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_03]: it will definitely kick back up again here over the next few weeks it always does championship November.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: Championship November I'm Los Angeles.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, are you familiar with the championship November?
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: good.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_01]: Don't worry about it.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's, I don't know.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: I, of course, I'm like way more pessimistic because I think Michigan's going to get clubbed by Ohio State.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: If Tennessee loses to Bandy, Oklahoma could finish with one ranked win at nine and three.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: That's not a residing in the cause of a playoff unless everybody else behind them loses.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_01]: Which if BYU wins out the rest of the regular season, I think tech and BYU will get in.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: There's a in a weird way if Cincinnati beats BYU and Utah doesn't have to play the big toe championship game.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: That might even be better for Utah.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think that you're just going to get a ACC team, auger, a five team, not have to worry too much about that.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: It just becomes a, like if Vanderbilt beats Tennessee, then everything, herpsicle homo's resume, maybe vaults Vanderbilt and I think that maybe the easiest thing car says, you just go win this week, not easy, but go win this week and take it out of the hands of a committee.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: 100% and I agree with you in the sense that the winds excuse me might not age like we thought they would be getting at the year, Auburn's kind of disappointing this year.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're still very talented team, but the winds have not come easily for them.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_00]: Michigan up and down, good defense, offense, still very inconsistent.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: Tennessee, I mean, that's a high flying team, but there's there's still a good team.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: You kind of have to, I think, to a degree take the wins when you got them because I mean, Tennessee at the time that all you played them, I think most people would argue they were around 15th of the nation.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good football team in Knoxville, no less.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that 44% number that ABER threw out there from the predictor.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think that number would be significantly higher if say, oh, call him a beat Texas lost to South Carolina.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: Just that head to head lost against Texas who
- 28:08[SPEAKER_00]: Granted, they still have Georgia and AM on their schedule.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: Those are two very lovable games, the way those teams are playing right now.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: But if those teams owe you in Texas finish nine and three, Texas has that head-to-head nod over the Sooners, which is, it could be massive.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: It could be the difference between in and out in this year's playoff bubble.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_00]: Who knows if that'll be the case, maybe there's enough chaos that both make the playoff, maybe there's...
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: Bid Steelers from the Big 12 who take both team spots, but that could be the thing that X's OU from the playoff, and I know that's a situation they don't want to be in.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, it really does come down to winning this week, but also not overlooking
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: LSU still dang talented in Missouri's defense is still very good.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_00]: They made A and M do a lot of it.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: They made them pull out a lot of tricks, which I know a lot of people didn't necessarily expect.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: That defense even without Boa Probula on offense, that team can still play so when this week and then don't sleep walking your last two and I mean that's that's what you got to do.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: huge that so you get to slow down ty Simpson that that's been a huge thing for Alabama real in off these eight straight wins which of course included the five million ranked wins in a row that that became like tight in that sea record all that fun stuff.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: 21 touchdowns one interception for ty Simpson he's been incredibly efficient which is made up for the fact that Alabama struggled right in the football and Wednesday evening will get our first little glimpse of what
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: what equipment, Oklahoma's gonna have at its disposal.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_01]: We talked to Jitu Williams on Monday.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_01]: Gentry was available at Tennessee didn't play, but I felt like that was a, he could go if you really had to have him, but didn't have to, he's obviously preparing mentally to get ready for this one.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: We talked to Kobe McKinsey yesterday on radio, and he basically said, good to go preparing to make that thing happen.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: So it's really all about Armace and Thomas,
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: quad-injury as Brett Venables had labeled it against Tennessee, not really a ton of on-field work last week during the by week to really gauge off of that.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think we might be boys in a pretty similar spot.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: with armacin that we were with Kobe in Knoxville, which is binoculars, train on armacin, during warm-ups, how's he feeling, stuff like that?
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: Able gets you in a second, because I know you wrote the story just about, hey, without armacin Thomas, what is that gonna be?
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: But who, armacin, no armacin, the name of the game here is gonna be, as much as I think we like to come a second there.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: You gotta get pressure on Tyves Simpson, because if you don't get that pressure,
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: This secondary, it's not an OU secondary thing.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: There's not many secures that are going to be able to cover Bernard and Ryan Williams and every weapon aldebra has this disposable for 5, 6, 7 seconds if the defensive line is closed and down on the aldebra quarterback.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_02]: So Alabama's passing game is probably equivalent slightly better, certainly more efficient, more safe with the football than anybody Oklahoma's face this year, including Ole Miss.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_02]: Ole Miss had a good time throwing the football against Oklahoma.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_02]: That's been defensive-wise, that's been kind of their Achilles heel as the intermediate stuff over the middle.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen the tight-ends exposed this defense enough for a couple of years.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_02]: And we've seen some guys go down the sidelines with the opportunity to catch footballs.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_02]: I'm talking deep balls.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_02]: That's something Alabama thrives on.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_02]: Alabama absolutely offensively rides that and so for that to be Oklahoma's weakness in Alabama straight.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_02]: that's not a particularly good match up and what you're saying is a hundred percent right you've got to come up with ways to generate pressure confused ties Simpson maybe make maybe making hold on to the football just a little bit longer get a little bit closer that guy get a little bit better coverage maybe grab the jersey a little bit before you get out of his break you know what I'm saying get creative with how you cover guys uh because if he's able to drop back throw in rhythm it's going to be a long long day for the OU secondary
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: Avery, if it's no Armason, you got Marvin Jones Jr. Taylor wine, guys that have been steady contributors.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: But Sartini, a Koi A.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: Play, a larger load of snaps, PJ had a massive tackle for loss, against Tennessee, that led to one of those three and outs, we're all going to really assert it itself in the second half.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: What kind of shape is Oklahoma going to be?
- 32:29[SPEAKER_01]: And if Armason can't give it a go, or if he's at like 50% and is on kind of like a snap count type thing.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, let's not, you know, kid ourselves that, oh, you's just going to be absolutely fine if our Mason Thomas isn't in there.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_03]: You know, he's one of what 17, uh, Badenarica Ward, uh, semi-finalists.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_03]: He's one of the best past pressures in the country, uh, the, the stats bear that out, the PFF grades, uh, bear that out, and you need him against the, uh, and offense as dynamic as Alabama's.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_03]: That said,
- 33:02[SPEAKER_03]: oh use you know finally got a decent amount of depth at defensive end and we knew that that would be a position of strength with our Mason Thomas with Marvin Jones Jr. you know Taylor wine has been you know one of the surprises of this defense you can sort of say you know they've got surprises sort of at every level with you know courtland gillery
- 33:23[SPEAKER_03]: with Owen Heinecki as well, but Taylor Wein's right up there with his progression this year.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_03]: He's been in fantastic, but the steps that Danny Aquay, and PJ at a ball array,
- 33:38[SPEAKER_03]: have taken over these last few weeks.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_03]: Their snap numbers aren't significantly higher.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_03]: In some cases aren't higher at all, but they're being much more efficient and much more impactful in those snaps.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_03]: It's not just going out there and giving our Mason Thomas and Taylor Wine a break.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_03]: It's going out there and making plays.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_03]: And we saw that against Tennessee with both of them.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_03]: You know, a Koya had the big sec at a ballway, had the massive, you know, tackle for loss right after our Mason Thomas' long return that helped hold Tennessee to a field goal and helped owe you, you know, sort of keep some sense of momentum after that happened.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_03]: And so,
- 34:25[SPEAKER_03]: They, they won't be disastrous if our Mason Thomas can't go or isn't 100% but you know, certainly they would be much better off if he's able to go in Carson, there's also this bit too regardless of who's in there.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: He's not in there.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: What was the biggest difference between the first half against Tennessee as opposed to the third quarter against Texas or the first half against Ole Miss, well, you start counting
- 34:53[SPEAKER_01]: all resulting in massive massive swings, whether it be points, keeping points off the board, getting the offense a short field when it was still trying to find its footing.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to be massive against an Alabama team that's one of the best in the country at taking the ball away and then not giving it back when they do have that.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: It isn't.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to be easy.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Tyson Simpson from what I've gotten to see out of him is one of the cleanest players out there, one of the smartest players and he's just
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'd call him a game manager, but I feel like that's kind of an insult to the way he plays.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_00]: He is a damn good quarterback, and he takes care of the ball, has really good weapons around him.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_00]: So that's not going to be easy, but I think a key to maybe getting even one or two of those would loom large in a game like this for a use chances.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_00]: The key to that is getting to Tyson's in as quick as you can.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the past rush was much better against Tennessee than it was against her enlist.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_00]: They really made Joey Aguilar uncomfortable.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_00]: Trinidad Chambliss made him uncomfortable a few times, but he also escaped plenty of times with his legs.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_00]: Found a fast receiver in the inside.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_00]: Did a lot more to damage this defense and Alabama has that
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: getting a little more pressure on him quicker.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe makes rooms a little bit more uncomfortable, whether it's a fumble, a pick, getting even one or two of those would be massive against an offense that really does take care of the ball.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_02]: Here's your quick statistical updates since we went down that path.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_02]: Tennessee is second in the country right now.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_02]: I'm passing yards per game 329.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_02]: That's Tennessee.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_02]: Ole Miss is seventh at 305 Alabama.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_02]: Way, way, way down there at 13th 291 yards per game.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_02]: And you remember the statistics in those games.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_02]: Chambles through for 315 and Joey Aguilar through for 393.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_02]: So Oklahoma's got to have a game where they're either taking the...
- 36:45[SPEAKER_02]: football away from the quarterback in one way or the getting past rush on or picking those balls off or yeah, it's going to be tough.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_01]: The other bit too is something that Oak was really good at for the most part this year.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_01]: We saw that against Tennessee.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually after their first touchdown drive, Oklahoma and Alabama, two of the most efficient red zone offenses in the country.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_01]: The key in the games like this is
- 37:11[SPEAKER_01]: Touchdowns and field goals obviously matter a great deal.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: LSU I thought on Saturday they're pretty good job of putting the band aid on and trying to force some field goals as opposed to just letting Alabama walk into the Inzo now they had a quarterback change.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: They were going through all of it on offense and weren't able to really make out of the pay for it despite the fact that we talked about turnovers.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_01]: They'd gotten a fumble near midfield a chance to make it 17 to
- 37:37[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that had been 17 to 13 and then all of a sudden you're going, oh my gosh, could this been a football game and said, oh, she just gets the field goal.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be able to say I'm going to extend back that way that that's going to be the uh, some of the big moments of when you don't get it turned over.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's not going to be a day where suddenly you force 17 punts and and all this stuff.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be, hey,
- 37:57[SPEAKER_01]: Alabama gets a big play.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: Can you rally and hold for a field goal as opposed to a touchdown, which this Oklahoma defense has been pretty good about most of the season.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_01]: Then on the flip side, you've got to have your offense convert.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_01]: And that's going to be a lot on geometry.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: And it kind of brings us all the way back around to one of the big questions coming out of Tennessee, whether you look at that third and 16 run where material picked up 21 yards, whether you look at the throw to satania on the sideline.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_01]: whichever moment you believe was kind of the turning point for geometry in that football game up until he's either thrown in a section for the four 15 left.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_01]: If you can get that version of geometry for at least three quarters, pair that with a rushing attack with all the offensive line changes that we've well docked, they've been well docked with all the Xavier Robinson for a guy who's had some success can salivate him and his recent past.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_01]: That right there John is the formula it just
- 38:50[SPEAKER_01]: do you believe we're going to get that version of geometry on Saturday night or I guess Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's a lot to unpack there obviously.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_02]: How much of what John material does, how much of his success on Saturday is going to be tied to Xavier Robinson in the running game and how much of that is going to be tied to the
- 39:12[SPEAKER_02]: continued progress of the offensive line and their ability to fire off the ball.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_02]: Follow that EPL example and go hit somebody and knock the hell out of somebody and move them out of the way.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_02]: Because the offensive line, the first five, six, seven games, the season didn't do that.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_02]: We saw that the last time they played against Tennessee.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_02]: We saw that a couple of times the game before that.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_02]: And so, if those things come together and you don't have receivers dropping the football or guys catching the ball like this and it pops up when the DB is reaching around and comes up into the air and it's an interception.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_02]: If you don't have that and you don't have the offensive coordinator making boneheaded calls in wrong situations, then geometry can have a very successful day against this Alabama secondary.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_02]: Simple as that.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think John material, I know Brett Vinnables talked about this on the SEC's teleconference this morning that he's just getting more and more comfortable just progressing better.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_00]: I know material has told us so many times that it's not his hand.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_00]: His hand is not bugging him.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_00]: That's not an issue in the admirable, but it's hard to believe at the same time.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to imagine that a surgery that major and injury that severe wouldn't have any sort of rust any pain still.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_00]: that he'd be able to be accurate first time out and venables pretty much said yeah injuries like that are going to take their time.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_00]: You've seen that progression.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: He's had his bad throws.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_00]: He's had his good throws but he also said job material has been efficient essentially highlighting the second half against Tennessee.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: don't know if you'd say he won them the game, but him being good enough was huge in the second half really helped them stay in front, aside from that late pick, which I attribute that more to bad play calling then bad quarterback play, um,
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: But, material is just getting more and more comfortable.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_00]: You're seeing that, um, I felt like Ole Miss was a step in the wrong direction, Tennessee, a step in the right direction.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_00]: Alabama's defense, though, as we know, no slouch.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to be easy hostile environment, but material, at least, should have a little confidence doing what he did against Tennessee.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_00]: Not the best defense, but an incredibly hostile environment.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_00]: I got to have it game.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: That's got to give him at least a little bit of a mental boost this week.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, where am I over simplifying in the answer is yes, I'm a dumb person I try to make things simple and my over simplifying it and saying like simply put if Oklahoma can at least break even at worse on turnover margin.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_01]: And when the time of possession battle, something they've not been spectacular at, that to me are the two things that I'm going to be looking at.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_01]: If they do those two things, I think they have a real shot.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_01]: If they end up way underwater and time of possession or certainly underwater and the turn over about it, that's where I think the chances to go to Tusk Lucid when a big time game really start to the percentages I would start tanking if they lose either one of those, especially in a significant way.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, I think yes, the answer is it's a bit of an oversimplification, but there's also plenty of validity to it.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that's why I think Xavier Robinson is so big in this game, because we saw the physicality that he brought last year against Alabama and had a lot of success there, had his first two touchdown game.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen what he's brought the last few games, the explosiveness there.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_03]: he's got to bring that and he's got to be able to hold on to the ball because Alabama forces a lot of fumbles.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you talk about Ty Simpson in the way he's managed the game.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_03]: Their defense is also forced a lot of turnovers on the other end.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you just look, uh, they forced, uh, what is it, uh, six fumbles?
- 42:54[SPEAKER_03]: combined over the last four games there, you know, they're getting hats on the football and making those things pop out.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen how you struggle with that at times, but if Xavier Robinson can hold on to the football and be able to make some of those plays and be able to eat up the clock like you talked about, I think that goes a long way toward giving the sooner the best chance to pull off what would be what would be an upset
- 43:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's one of the things that it's like, it's the other simplification, but it goes hand in hand, right?
- 43:26[SPEAKER_01]: Because why would they win the time of possession?
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Sagar, Robinson, John, it's here.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_01]: They're able to not necessarily, you don't need them to run for 350 yards or something like that, but you need them to do what we saw against Michigan.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: do what we saw against Auburn at points and do what we saw certainly in the second half against Tennessee.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to put 45 on the board.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_01]: You just have to score, put together three or four really good drives and those three or four really good drives have to come at the right time synced up with Oklahoma's defense, which is something we've certainly seen happen before.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: And then there's some other good news that happened this week.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_01]: I was perusing the social media across the by week.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_01]: I was double triple checking, doing the hard hitting work that we do here, as soon as on that side.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_01]: I saw no evidence of Tate Sandale kicking a burrito.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_01]: I saw no evidence of him kicking any other food stuff, actually.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: He was holding for people at an NL event, but I think that that means that Tate Sandale weapon, who currently is number one in the country, in points added over
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: think that Oklahoma's going to have that and if you have that, it's now a bad team that just doesn't return a ton of kicks is what they they the offensive so good it's kind of like Lincoln Riley thing it like no need to risk a bubble here will just take the field position whatever it is as long as it's not in the tank you're going to be a good spot and that's where uh, Oklahoma's defense kind of has to go to work with grows up grows up grows up right Carson
- 44:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, uh, he's a big weapon.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_02]: You put the words on it.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_02]: Um, one of, one of our most, um, maybe, uh, popular stories, uh, this fall has been a story that Ryan wrote that Oklahoma is developing a new weapon.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it was for the Red River rivalry.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_02]: And everybody clicked on and said, what the heck?
- 45:13[SPEAKER_02]: And it's, it was about the kicker.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_02]: And everybody's like, this is, that's clickbait.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_02]: What are you doing?
- 45:18[SPEAKER_02]: Making us click on a story about a new weapon?
- 45:20[SPEAKER_02]: Well, guess what, guys?
- 45:22[SPEAKER_02]: The Oklahoma Kicker is actually a weapon.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_02]: Once you cross midfield, the sooners can pretty much put three points on the scoreboard, minimum, three points on the scoreboard.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_02]: So he's been fantastic, and he's just a reflection of the improved special team's place.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_02]: Since, I don't know, guy by the name of Jay Nunez went to where Alabama.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_02]: Is that right?
- 45:43[SPEAKER_02]: Is this the Jay Nunez revenge game sort of?
- 45:48[SPEAKER_02]: No, well, yeah, it is.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_01]: I do a very important question for all of you.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_01]: We have two things that work here, okay?
- 45:56[SPEAKER_01]: We're eating into like X-factor territory.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: On the Alabama side of it, it's the Alabama revenge game, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, Oklahoma one last year that's actually terrible.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_01]: Ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma,
- 46:14[SPEAKER_03]: they weren't motivated.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't want to be there.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_01]: We've heard that a couple of times, but it's the, it's the Alabama revenge game narrative.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there was something on Monday night that Oklahoma players latched on to that I did not see coming whatsoever.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: I know Carson was in the middle of a lot of these scrubs.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_01]: It has been pointed out.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_01]: multiple times to Oklahoma players that the sooners were selected for homecoming this week.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_01]: You don't put Oklahoma as your homecoming unless in the Kansas learn like 10 years ago.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: An Alabama team that has not played back-to-back road games will not play back-to-back road games until they get to or back-to-back games outside of Bright Diddy till they get to
- 47:02[SPEAKER_01]: Dark Magic Voodoo is more impactful April start with you scheduling Oklahoma for homecoming or Alabama revenge game the next year.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I was sort of interested to hear the comments from Alabama about, you know, what Kaylin DeBours said about, you know, making a sort of a big deal, you know, saying, hey, they should remember that game last year and make it more of that revenge type of storyline, you know, Brent Venomville sort of, you know, downplayed it, but that's the job that, you know, that's what he does.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_03]: But fascinating to hear, you know, that OU,
- 47:41[SPEAKER_03]: is a homecoming game not uh not something that happens very often but there's only a few schools that can do that and Alabama is one that I would imagine they uh you know it matters to them more about where the the the the date of the game is on the schedule rather than who their opponent is uh you know you're not gonna do uh
- 48:02[SPEAKER_03]: You know, their November the typical November FCS game in the SEC, which, oh, you does not have this year, Alabama has next week, actually against eastern Illinois.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_03]: You know, when your Alabama that doesn't really bring a lot of juice, but when Oklahoma comes for the second time ever to bring any that does bring some juice, not to you need it in Tuscaloosa, but I think it's one of those things that, hey, it's fun to talk about, but Alabama does what Alabama wants.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think maybe to an extent the player's care about the revenge game aspect, but it's different season.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of new pieces.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, different quarterback for the Crimson side.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think the fan base really does care about that kind of stuff, though, knowing that that was not a great Oklahoma team.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_00]: That was their first year in the league and they're one and no against Alabama as SEC.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_00]: And it kept him out of the playoff, kept them out of the playoff.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_00]: another huge point.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, considering what happened, I don't, that was the sugar bowl that owe you beat BAM I in early 2010s, right?
- 49:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, considering the most astounding game I have ever covered.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, the Trevor not game.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Trevor right that is right.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but yeah, just based on the recent history with how dominant Bama has been against almost every program, not necessarily having that same success against do you maybe maybe that's something for the fan base to be more motivated.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_00]: I know that I've never been to Brian Denny, but I've heard Brian Denny has a tendency to
- 49:36[SPEAKER_00]: be loud when it needs to be loud and kind of settled down at the not not as important games games against say Kentucky in past years Vanderbilt.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there's going to be any of that against Oklahoma even though it's not a night game.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think the fans are going to be out and full force this Alabama team's been one of the best in college football since that opening lost afford to stay.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_00]: there's a lot for them to cheer for a lot of a lot for them to just bring that energy and I think last year for result does at least play a decent role with the fan base.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_02]: Baker may have failed had no business coming to Oklahoma.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_02]: Did he went after that Trevor Knight game?
- 50:14[SPEAKER_02]: What was he thinking?
- 50:15[SPEAKER_02]: Why would you come from transfer as a walk on from Texas Tech to Oklahoma?
- 50:19[SPEAKER_02]: What the heck are you thinking Baker?
- 50:21[SPEAKER_02]: Oh wait, I'm hearing that it and actually worked out well for him.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think it worked out our right form, but I do remember being like, what the heck is this guy doing?
- 50:31[SPEAKER_03]: Play it as a freshman at tech.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_03]: There's plenty of places he could go and be guaranteed to play somewhere.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_03]: And he comes to Oklahoma.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_03]: You know, at the time we didn't know about his backstory as a growing up as an OU fan and the connection with his family with some of the assistance, former assistance at OU.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_03]: But just the wildest game I've ever covered, because it just sort of came out of nowhere.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like, oh my gosh, what is Trevor Knight doing out here?
- 51:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, it was an Eric striker, Frank Shannon.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_03]: Those guys doing doing things all over the world.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_03]: No, gruesome.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, gruesome.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_03]: That's a Colton Bester.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_03]: Come on now.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it was just just absolute madness.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, we heard every excuse in the book from the Alabama folks after that one, but certainly turned out
- 51:32[SPEAKER_03]: to be just one of the giant sort of blips on the radar, you know, in someone's career to have, you know, Trevor Knight do what he did in that game through for almost 350 yards, just an incredible one, and it wasn't
- 51:50[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, you know, particularly close 45 to 31 was the final, but it didn't even feel that close, uh, you know, even with, uh, oh, you having to score a late touchdown to stretch it out like that.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_02]: Quick or have a hole for you, Chapman, um, think about what football would look like right now.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_02]: If Bob Stoops hadn't fired Josh Hypel.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_02]: You know, a couple years before brought in Lincoln Riley, right?
- 52:14[SPEAKER_02]: And Riley lands, or well, lands.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Baker decides to go to Oklahoma.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_02]: They get together.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_02]: Kyler comes to Oklahoma.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_02]: That produces Jalen Herz.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, think about what, oh, you football might be right now.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_02]: If all things head coach or offensive coordinator Josh Hypal or if they had had enough success to for Bob to hand it off to Josh like he handed it off to Lincoln.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_02]: Wow, it's kind of mind-blowing to think where OU would be.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_01]: We've missed a big stocking point from the whole game.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_01]: How did Doug Nussmire not realize Derek Henry's an alien.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_01]: No one can tackle him.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_01]: Hand Derek Henry the ball over and over and over.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care how far behind you are.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_01]: But I guess he should be banned from football for life just for that.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, it is the, uh, as much as it could be to play in games, stuff like that.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think Oklahoma fans would like this to be firmly classified as regular season game.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_01]: No one talked about it as a play in game, uh, because the other game can just have never beat Oklahoma in a regular season game.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_01]: That's not happened.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_01]: Uh,
- 53:15[SPEAKER_01]: a home and home victory in the early 2000s and obviously last year in Norman suitors three and a in the regular season against the crimson tide saturday two thirty who carcini will be in the house uh carcini if you do not come back with a pristine video of dicksland and delight no one around here's gonna be upset but i'll be sad i'll be a little sad because it is what we also need pressbox video of
- 53:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we, I had to blow up my Monday proof started radio this week because he didn't know that what Dixley the light was, he's an NBA guy, he like played a little bit of it and is any guy we're ready for the call response, he like potted it down, I was like, Drake, this is the point, is like the whole point is that we spend our last dollar on beer, like that's what we do, that's
- 54:04[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, I digress, 230, I don't scout the dog who's under me.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry for my absence earlier.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_01]: She has thrown up all over my apartment, so that's great.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_01]: Good for that.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_03]: That will be news news now.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_01]: Before I get the cleaning up things, we have plenty more to get to.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_01]: Let's start on the on Porter Mosers half of the Lloyd Noble Center Saturday night against Gonzaga that did not go well.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma got eout rebounded outplayed all that stuff.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_01]: Tuesday night I think the more important result was not the Macaslan game, but the fact that Gonzaga did the exact same thing to Creighton as far as beat them around.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_01]: So this may be the rare Porter Moser non-conversed experience for the team he plays actually gets better and better and better throughout the year which makes that look better.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_01]: But, Carson, what'd you make of Oklahoma's response on Tuesday in the McHazzling game?
- 54:53[SPEAKER_01]: A weird game.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to take in much of it, but it didn't look like it looked as good as maybe the box score looked after the game.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_00]: No, it wasn't sexy.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_00]: Um, they couldn't firmly run away from Arkansas prime love until the last few minutes.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_00]: First half really struggled in the front court, which is obviously what we saw from the suitors against Gonzaga.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_00]: That was the same thing as we saw in the first game against Saint Francis in the first half.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_00]: They turned it around in the second half of that game.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_00]: And there was a second half turnaround.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't as drastic as that one against St. Francis, but they played better ball.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_00]: The three pointers were hitting.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_00]: They shot better.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_00]: They weren't allowing as many easy buckets in the paint because It's one thing to give up buckets in the paint against a team like Gonzaga that has really quality big men.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_00]: You see that happening against Arkansas pine block will get a little bit worried.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_00]: Arkansas pine block there now and for I believe they started the year second to last in the nation in the net rankings.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_00]: So that's not a good basketball team.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, this is it's a weird thing in the sense that, oh, you put a very similar game last year against Alcorn State at McCasland Fieldhouse.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_00]: Alcorn State was also really bad last year in that game.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_00]: It took it took a you a while last.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_00]: last year as well.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe there's just something weird with my cousin, maybe it's just the different backdrop, who knows.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_00]: But it was not that pretty of a game.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Nigel Pack was really good.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_00]: Tay Davis did have 11 offensive boards, which is really dang good.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_00]: So you did see a lot of contributions from different pieces.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think part of it's also playing a lot of guys they went 10 DPS today and against a team like Arkansas Pine Bluff sure it wasn't pretty but the game was never in doubt at the same time there was never really a doubt that OU would win so it did give Moser a lot of opportunities to
- 56:45[SPEAKER_00]: to play different players in a lot of different spots, seeing guys like Wal-A-Talk.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_00]: He got some more minutes yesterday, Kai Rogers.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_00]: He played sparingly against Gonzaga.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_00]: He was in a lot more situations last night and even if he didn't light up the stat sheet, he looked, he looked the part and he looks like he's going to be a big piece for the sooners.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_00]: So just giving a lot of guys opportunities yesterday,
- 57:15[SPEAKER_00]: shout out, read, love lace.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, walk on and Rossa, a very little Ross, love lace is little brother.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, keep firing.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, do you think the slow starts could be a sign of just so many newcomers, not really sure of each other.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_02]: You need a half to actually get going.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_00]: I think that plays a role for sure.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is last year was a pretty reloaded team.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_00]: This is a very reloaded team just with so many different guys in both the back court and the front court.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think that definitely plays a role.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_00]: At some point, you've got to figure that out though.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_00]: You can't be starting slow against, I mean, even Nebraska, this coming Saturday.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_00]: By the time they play more of these really good basketball teams, you can't afford those slow starts.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_00]: You saw that happen against Gonzaga.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_00]: But like two-year point, yes, I think the newness does play a factor in it, but it's something they've got to show up quickly.
- 58:08[SPEAKER_01]: Something to, Pine Bluff did come into my castle and shoot the lights out two years ago or three years ago, whenever that was two my castle games ago.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that that's a situation where Pine Bluff is very, very comfortable in those spots.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_01]: Something else that did happen over the past week.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_01]: Alec Blair,
- 58:23[SPEAKER_01]: formerly of two sport fame from Oklahoma playing baseball and basketball he after game one stepped away from the basketball program once the focus on baseball Porter talked about like obviously it's not optimal but it's not like he quit on Oklahoma he's still a sooner and it's just talking to skip Johnson today on radio skip lacks poetic about out like Blair and talking about heat heat
- 58:46[SPEAKER_01]: He had that, uh, had a bunch of doubles and they're kind of a false Grimage against Texas tech.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_01]: A guy that's going to be sounds like Oklahoma's everyday center fielder and someone that skip believes has like first round, uh, MLB draft potential.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, one of those things that sucks from port, but I don't know truly how much Blair was going to factor into the plans for Oklahoma basketball and
- 59:08[SPEAKER_01]: knowing how much he's gonna factor in and how his future and baseball lies ahead.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_01]: That is something that happened this week, but I don't think he's gonna have a huge impact on the season.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_01]: For the sooner, it's like Carson said, they'll be back in action on Saturday, taking on Nebraska in a Dakota somewhere.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember which one.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_01]: Did you see that?
- 59:23[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, South Dakota, South.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_01]: nail the phone 50 50 never fails.
- 59:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's for the men.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_01]: The women had their own marky game on Monday night.
- 59:33[SPEAKER_01]: Aber you were the one tasked with staying up and writing that I made it until UCLA made their run at the very end of the third quarter to extend that thing back out.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I said peace.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_01]: I have to be on radio early in the morning.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_01]: It was a weird one though, right?
- 59:47[SPEAKER_01]: Chavez goes out early with the two fouls.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_01]: Comes back in.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_01]: It was the Zyvan show and for me
- 59:54[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about it.
- 59:56[SPEAKER_01]: But the Beatrice Colton first half minutes of going to war with Lauren bats, I thought, well, this is going to end poorly.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_01]: And it did not for the first half at least.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think that was certainly encouraging, you know, not that the all the minutes went great when Reagan beers was off the floor, but the fact that Beatrice Colton was able to give them that, I think the announcers went a little bit overboard on how
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_03]: mid-range jumper was that she hit, but, you know, there were some good things there.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_03]: I think Zaivan offensively, you see, you know, what she's becoming, there still needs to be a significant step.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_03]: I think on the defensive end, I think that's where they, you know, lost out a little bit when Chavez was off the floor and helped lead to that disparity there.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_03]: But I think this was a good
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_03]: for Alia Chavez in particular to play a team like UCLA that has all of the talent, you know, Lauren Betts, everybody else, you know, Giannipegans had a fantastic game for the Bruins as well, but...
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_03]: this is one even though it didn't go their way that you can see can help them build for things that they might face in March.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_03]: You know, this is in a building that they might be playing in.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_03]: It's one of the regional, one of two regional sites this year in the NCAA Women's Tournament.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_03]: But I think if
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_03]: Alia Chavez becomes the player that, you know, a lot of people expect her to be as quickly.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_03]: I think this can be a turning point because, you know, you just have to go through it to be able to understand the difference in the way teams are going to guard you in high school.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_03]: Versus the way teams are going to guard guard her.
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_03]: at this level, especially when they're playing high level opponents that they'll face quite a bit throughout the SEC schedule.
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_03]: And even though the shooting numbers weren't great, Chavez, she improved a little bit there at the end, finished 4 or 16, but I think it was like 2 or 13 to a 14 to start off with.
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_03]: Even with that, you can see the playmaking abilities that she had with
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_03]: the near buzzer beater pass underneath a bucket to say hero Williams for a pull-up at the buzzer so at least some good things to take away from it but it'll be interesting to see how things sort of mold here over the next three weeks as OU, you know, doesn't face a game where they should be severely tested in until they face NC State here in early December.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, we're, let me ask you a quick question, um, Lauren Betts probably the best post player that Reagan beers will see this year.
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe probably likely.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, certainly the best defensive post player.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_02]: And so their history together kind of best friends, junior high and rivals and high school and stuff.
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_02]: Their history together.
- 1:03:02[SPEAKER_02]: were you a little surprised that Regan Bears didn't have more for her like what she finished with like seven and ten or something like that like like if that had been a regular player she would have had twenty eight and sixteen right but because it was bets yeah I think well the the foul trouble certainly played a big role in that this Regan Bears minutes were we're limited especially in the first half
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_03]: with that, but you look at the other side.
- 1:03:27[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Lauren Vets is a fantastic defensive player.
- 1:03:29[SPEAKER_03]: There's a reason why she was a national defensive player the year last year, Reagan Bears isn't going to face a defensive player like that in the post, the rest of the season.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_03]: I did think it was interesting though that, oh, you was able to turn Vets over.
- 1:03:44[SPEAKER_03]: I think a seven turn over, so Lauren, Vets.
- 1:03:47[SPEAKER_03]: a career high for her and she's had some you know fantastic games obviously so you know maybe a little bit surprising that Reagan beers didn't do more offensively in that game but
- 1:04:01[SPEAKER_03]: She's going to have plenty of chances.
- 1:04:03[SPEAKER_03]: I think the big thing is that when they face a post-player that can at least hang with Reagan beers, they've got to be able to hit the shots.
- 1:04:12[SPEAKER_03]: And we're unable to hit the shots consistently or get the stops consistently to be in that game in the last few minutes.
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and that's a good observation the fact that she was she was not able to I think this was there's an opportunity for her to look back on that game and her history with Lauren bets and say Here's how I can grow my game.
- 1:04:30[SPEAKER_02]: Here's how I can be better in the NCAA tournament or in the SEC in the future by going up and doing these other things against big postplay Really good post defenders, but you're right hit the shots takes care of everything
- 1:04:42[SPEAKER_01]: hit the shots and maintain the same level of turnovers, which was not a lot for Oklahoma too.
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, they only had nine turnovers.
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_03]: They're fewest in two seasons.
- 1:04:53[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, so that was a positive, uh, but, uh, you know, not enough positives, uh, for for Jenny Baroncheck.
- 1:05:00[SPEAKER_03]: And something tells me she would trade some of those turnovers for some some playmaking, uh, and, you know, significant buckets, uh, the other way.
- 1:05:08[SPEAKER_01]: the the biggest thing and we close here on a little bit as far as I just thought that uh uh Jenna Niekins who is someone that owe you and UCLA were basically heads up for in the transfer portal on a Monday night in November she was the difference when Oklahoma did a really good job I thought on Kiki Rice uh Gabrielle Hakez was good early but kind of uh I think Oklahoma was better on hers the game went on I think you saw that for UCLA what they were able to do their addition was a big time veteran
- 1:05:37[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma's big edition was a true freshman.
- 1:05:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's what's kind of, in a weird way, I don't know, then when the game encouraging is that the Alicia, as you're going to see in March, because I aloft, and you're going to see in March, the continued growth of Zayave and that you're going to see from here to March, and
- 1:05:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's the exciting journey that this Oklahoma team is going to be on and it'll all change over next year.
- 1:05:58[SPEAKER_01]: Once you graduate out of verholst and beers, it no longer is like blending the old and the new and it's about kind of a very different looking Oklahoma team, but Ryan, this is kind of the thing I'm excited about tracking throughout this is how quickly can they make those steps forward between now and SEC play?
- 1:06:14[SPEAKER_01]: Because that'll be the difference if they make those steps forward, they just showed you that's one of the nation's best.
- 1:06:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's a final four-type matchup type situation.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_01]: game to.
- 1:06:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, you know, like I said, I think this is a significant building block.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_03]: And even though it didn't go oh use way, there are plenty that they can take out of this game and use to for improvement.
- 1:06:39[SPEAKER_03]: And we've seen Jenny Baronchek do a really good job of getting her teams there.
- 1:06:42[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you think about the team that lost to a Southern.
- 1:06:47[SPEAKER_03]: a couple of years ago and then winds up putting that fantastic run together in their final season in the big 12.
- 1:06:54[SPEAKER_03]: Everything that they did last year as it built toward that sweet 16 run.
- 1:06:59[SPEAKER_03]: This is something that Jenny Baronshake does a great job with and it will just be fascinating to see how she's able to navigate that and how different this team is.
- 1:07:10[SPEAKER_03]: I mean,
- 1:07:11[SPEAKER_03]: you think and not that you know everything's lined up where they'll certainly wind up playing UCLA down the road but you know I think about that 2016 OU Final Four team that you know beat the brakes off of Villanova
- 1:07:26[SPEAKER_03]: in Hawaii I believe in non-conference play and in Villanova got so much better as a year went on they were rolling and we're able to win that game in the final four again not saying that that's what happened but we've seen examples of teams that make that kind of leap as the season goes on and I think scheduling this game for a lot of reasons was important for the OU Women's Basketball Program.
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_01]: you're the first Oklahoma will be involved in a buzzer beater in the national title game in you know, that's what I heard from there.
- 1:08:00[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, OU UMKC, that plenty of buzzer beater's already.
- 1:08:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's true, true, true.
- 1:08:06[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, OU UMKC Wednesday night, uh, if you're listening to this during the day, Wednesday, be sure your following aim or if you're listening to this.
- 1:08:11[SPEAKER_01]: Later, go to the website, oakgonstenersonesside.com, click the one that's about tab and you can get the full recap of that bad boy.
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_01]: They've got North Alabama on Friday in the field trip game, Godspeed to you, Ryan Avery, and then they're headed to Western Carolina on Sunday as who of course and I drive back from Tuscaloosa.
- 1:08:32[SPEAKER_03]: I have no idea how to get that leap, right?
- 1:08:38[SPEAKER_01]: Well, take the ride.
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'll make that extra little bit and I won't ever fly back.
- 1:08:43[SPEAKER_01]: I guess I don't know.
- 1:08:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'll just like you meander throughout until we make our way back.
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_01]: But we'll have all that points across the Hooray.
- 1:08:49[SPEAKER_03]: How that game came to play.
- 1:08:52[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, you had to scramble to get a game last year after a team backed out and Western Carolina pretty much held all the cards.
- 1:09:02[SPEAKER_03]: It was able to say, hey, we'll come.
- 1:09:04[SPEAKER_03]: You got to come to our place next year.
- 1:09:07[SPEAKER_01]: Dig it.
- 1:09:07[SPEAKER_01]: I dig it.
- 1:09:08[SPEAKER_01]: So it should be good there.
- 1:09:09[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, coasters outside of that company.
- 1:09:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's also a siding day.

- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_01]: They're not going to be freshmen for this upcoming softball season that we'll kick off in February.
- 1:09:31[SPEAKER_01]: But it'll be next year's season.
