- 0:00Speaker 1: Yo, what's up? Shiman d J d W rec And
- 0:03Speaker 1: this is what I'm doing today, eating while broke, chilling
- 0:07Speaker 1: here with my girl Colleen with and we're going to
- 0:10Speaker 1: be whipping up a little broke meal. Little meal I
- 0:13Speaker 1: used to make you know when I was when uh
- 0:18Speaker 1: money was a little bit short. Nice? So what are
- 0:22Speaker 1: you gonna have me eat today? Because well you could
- 0:24Speaker 1: just I guess walk through the ingredients, all right, So
- 0:27Speaker 1: what we're gonna do? What we have here? This is
- 0:30Speaker 1: just regular bologning, like you know, bologna and cheese, and
- 0:34Speaker 1: which is type of bologna, kindergarden food. This yere is
- 0:39Speaker 1: beef top ramen and then butter it and said, what
- 0:43Speaker 1: we're gonna make is beef top ramen with fried bologny.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Got it? So this is an extremely affordable this affordable this,
- 0:50Speaker 1: I mean this is this might be thirty cents right here.
- 0:53Speaker 1: This is thirty cents. What all the big money was
- 0:55Speaker 1: spent here? The butter. It's like all these dishes, like
- 1:00Speaker 1: the nutritional value is like so low. Yeah, it's not.
- 1:04Speaker 1: It has nothing to do with that. It's all about
- 1:06Speaker 1: feeling the tummy, filling the tummy. Well, why don't you
- 1:09Speaker 1: fill our tummy and start cooking for us because I'm hungry. Okay,
- 1:14Speaker 1: this is what we do since since the top ramen
- 1:17Speaker 1: is already unpackaged, we're just gonna put it in the
- 1:19Speaker 1: in the boiling water. Most of the time, I kind
- 1:22Speaker 1: of break it up a little bit for you know,
- 1:25Speaker 1: you break it at hungry just because you know, other
- 1:30Speaker 1: than that, you're if you don't break it, then you're
- 1:32Speaker 1: having spaghetti. So I put im make it in a
- 1:36Speaker 1: little I'll break it in a little four little okay,
- 1:40Speaker 1: little top ramen pods. So there's a method to the matter.
- 1:44Speaker 1: There's a method to it. So what I just did
- 1:48Speaker 1: was I put the top ramen in the boiling water,
- 1:51Speaker 1: let it boil, and I use just to kind of
- 1:54Speaker 1: it's gonna get soft, and so if you don't want to,
- 1:56Speaker 1: you don't want it to get too soft. Okay. So
- 1:59Speaker 1: when was the time you ate this dish? Probably like
- 2:03Speaker 1: nine seven, So since ninety seven you have not resorted
- 2:11Speaker 1: back to this. I haven't. I haven't added fried bologny,
- 2:14Speaker 1: but just sometimes like on a late night, you know,
- 2:17Speaker 1: I don't want to eat a huge like I'm hungry,
- 2:20Speaker 1: but I don't want to eat anything like heavy. I'll
- 2:22Speaker 1: make like, you know, a little top run or something.
- 2:25Speaker 1: So what we'll do now is we're gonna add We're
- 2:28Speaker 1: gonna fry the blood. Okay. So what we want to
- 2:32Speaker 1: do is it's just on right here, that is on. Okay,
- 2:35Speaker 1: where are we? Don't burn yourself? No, I don't know
- 2:39Speaker 1: what the insurance policy, what you guys kind of insurance?
- 2:42Speaker 1: You know, we're on eating more broke, So I don't
- 2:44Speaker 1: have too much faith in it. So right now I'm
- 2:47Speaker 1: putting a little butter on the in this skillet, just
- 2:52Speaker 1: to you know. And now is that for it's to
- 2:55Speaker 1: not stick or for it to actually just to you
- 2:57Speaker 1: know kind of this is it adds labor and look
- 3:01Speaker 1: calcium calcium, got it? This is calcium on the package. Yeah,
- 3:05Speaker 1: go for it. Okay, so you get yourself a couple
- 3:08Speaker 1: of these here boom, let that fry up? All right?
- 3:14Speaker 1: So what what this is gonna do? And this is
- 3:16Speaker 1: what everybody did that fries bacon knows this It should uh,
- 3:24Speaker 1: it should create able Okay. So we're looking for the bubble,
- 3:30Speaker 1: waiting for the bubble. So take us back to seven.
- 3:34Speaker 1: What was going on in I was a cashier at
- 3:38Speaker 1: Costco wholesale, and I was living in l A. I
- 3:42Speaker 1: was a cashier at Costco hostel and I was just
- 3:47Speaker 1: out in l A doing what I call the Hollywood shuffle. Um,
- 3:51Speaker 1: I got that from a Robert Townsend movie, but I
- 3:53Speaker 1: was really doing that. I'm still Hollywood shuffling, but just
- 3:55Speaker 1: on a different level now. Um and uh, auditioning for
- 4:00Speaker 1: different TV shows and and and you know, dance gigs
- 4:06Speaker 1: or whatever. So you are a dancer, Yes, I should
- 4:09Speaker 1: do I should dance for different artists and music videos
- 4:11Speaker 1: and all that kind of stuff. Yeah, I mean you
- 4:14Speaker 1: see the bubble, yeah, Bubble'll see the bubble. I see it.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So are you supposed to pop it? Oh? Yeah, part
- 4:21Speaker 1: of it being fun. So you wanted to kind of
- 4:23Speaker 1: be a little crispy not to Christmas. So that's the
- 4:27Speaker 1: whole point of frying is for the texture. Well, yeah,
- 4:30Speaker 1: for the texture and to add protein to to your meal. Okay,
- 4:36Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Now do we know what
- 4:38Speaker 1: really is in boloney? Is it like one of those
- 4:40Speaker 1: hot dog things? Are probably? I mean it doesn't look
- 4:43Speaker 1: like you should just shave this off the side of
- 4:45Speaker 1: a cow. So so when did you realize you wanted
- 4:51Speaker 1: to get into entertainment. When I was a little kid.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I used to watch like, you know, Good Times and
- 4:58Speaker 1: the Jeffersons and Different Strokes and things like that, and
- 5:01Speaker 1: I would see these actors that I was I would
- 5:05Speaker 1: always emulate anyway, you know it was you know he
- 5:09Speaker 1: acts like I mean, I would, you know, kind of
- 5:15Speaker 1: you know, emulate the young black actors that were out.
- 5:20Speaker 1: You know, like I was always mimicking j J or
- 5:23Speaker 1: something and uh, you know doing it what you're talking about. Well,
- 5:27Speaker 1: it's all that kind of stuff like that. And then
- 5:29Speaker 1: the TV show Fame came out, and I was like
- 5:32Speaker 1: I could dance too, and then be born and breaking
- 5:35Speaker 1: came you know, all that stuff. So I was like
- 5:39Speaker 1: I used to enter like little hip hop dance contests
- 5:42Speaker 1: and things like that, and uh and I would win
- 5:48Speaker 1: like first, second or third place, and I was winning money.
- 5:53Speaker 1: So my mom wouldn't have to uh give me much
- 5:57Speaker 1: allowance because I was always winning, like, you know, a
- 6:01Speaker 1: few dollars at Chuck E Cheese every weekend. Yeah. So
- 6:06Speaker 1: then so she did she standed up supporting that because
- 6:10Speaker 1: you're always winning her Well, it was it wasn't that
- 6:13Speaker 1: I was. It wasn't She didn't support me because I
- 6:15Speaker 1: was winning. She just didn't discourage me. You know, like
- 6:19Speaker 1: when I said, Okay, Mom, I'm gonna go to this
- 6:22Speaker 1: little kid's club and we're gonna you know, it's gonna
- 6:27Speaker 1: be like a breaking battle or whatever, popping battle and
- 6:30Speaker 1: stuff like that. You see. Right now, I'm chopping up
- 6:33Speaker 1: the belogni because you gotta put little pieces of bologni
- 6:36Speaker 1: in the ramen. Year when we turned it down a
- 6:38Speaker 1: little bit, it's it's actually smells pretty good. Yes, it's
- 6:42Speaker 1: not bad. It's not bad, okay. So right now I'm
- 6:45Speaker 1: gonna turn off the rat it, okay, because we don't
- 6:49Speaker 1: want to get too soft. Yeah. I like my ramen
- 6:53Speaker 1: where it's like I don't know what that means, sounds
- 6:58Speaker 1: like it's like a little harder, like you know, I
- 7:02Speaker 1: don't like my ram and too soft. Right, So right
- 7:04Speaker 1: now I'm gonna pour off some of this water right
- 7:07Speaker 1: because I don't like it. I don't like it too soupy.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Yeah me either. Don't be like me. Don't try to
- 7:12Speaker 1: promise you. I always drain it. I don't like it
- 7:16Speaker 1: too soft, and I don't like it too soupy, So
- 7:19Speaker 1: I pour it off enough to wear the water in
- 7:24Speaker 1: the rama are about the same level. Okay, got it,
- 7:27Speaker 1: all right, So we do that. So it's a little
- 7:30Speaker 1: bit soupy, but in fact, let me turn off a
- 7:32Speaker 1: little bit, pour off a little bit more, all right,
- 7:37Speaker 1: that actually smells pretty good. I'm not saying I would
- 7:41Speaker 1: like go and eat, you know, pack of baloney. But
- 7:45Speaker 1: you're gonna be making this at the crib by yourself.
- 7:48Speaker 1: I don't know. Let's see how bad or how well
- 7:51Speaker 1: eating will broke does. So just purring that. So let
- 7:55Speaker 1: me tell you what we're doing now. So right now,
- 7:57Speaker 1: we're gonna season to see, didn't need package right now,
- 8:01Speaker 1: and we're gonna season at the time where we're gonna
- 8:04Speaker 1: we're gonna dump it into the into the noodles, into
- 8:07Speaker 1: the pot with the noodles, and you just empty all
- 8:10Speaker 1: the contents of that. So you just want to you
- 8:13Speaker 1: just want to, you know, stir that up in there now.
- 8:16Speaker 1: You want to get that a little bit not too crispy,
- 8:18Speaker 1: but a little bit crispy. And um. While and that
- 8:22Speaker 1: went away. So I was back to Hollywood shuffling with
- 8:26Speaker 1: without a job. And when you say Hollywood shuffling, that's
- 8:29Speaker 1: like auditions or you just are you trying to find
- 8:31Speaker 1: places to DJ auditions, uh, DJ, and you know DJ
- 8:36Speaker 1: gigs and stuff like that, you know, but uh, I
- 8:40Speaker 1: really wanted to do. You know. DJ has been good
- 8:43Speaker 1: to me, you know since I started DJ, and uh
- 8:45Speaker 1: and being on television is great because it actually gets
- 8:50Speaker 1: me more DJ gigs. But uh, you know, I like
- 8:56Speaker 1: I like acting and that's really hard to get in too,
- 9:01Speaker 1: you know, so every nothing. Then you know, you book
- 9:05Speaker 1: a few commercials, you book two or three commercials a year,
- 9:07Speaker 1: and you're doing all right, but uh, you know when
- 9:10Speaker 1: it's when it's dry, it's dry, you know, So right now,
- 9:14Speaker 1: what I'm gonna do? He kind of looks like a
- 9:16Speaker 1: little bacon bits. Yeah, see little bacon bits here cutting
- 9:20Speaker 1: this up. You put that in there like that, you
- 9:23Speaker 1: cut it up. What you do, You gotta mix it
- 9:28Speaker 1: all up, mix it up a little bit. This is
- 9:31Speaker 1: what it looks like overhead cam. Alright. Nice. When you're
- 9:37Speaker 1: doing the Hollywood shuffle and things dry up, is there
- 9:39Speaker 1: like a special thing you do in your mind to
- 9:42Speaker 1: handle the cash flow going up and down. You just
- 9:45Speaker 1: want to keep your your sanity and know that you're
- 9:49Speaker 1: still in the right place, You're still with your thank you.
- 9:53Speaker 1: You're welcome, you know what I mean. Like, so there
- 9:57Speaker 1: are times that I would feel like, man, maybe maybe
- 10:00Speaker 1: show business is not for me. And there were times
- 10:04Speaker 1: you oh, yeah, there were times when I felt that way,
- 10:07Speaker 1: you know. And then you know, I get a call
- 10:08Speaker 1: from my agent for an audition and it will conflict
- 10:11Speaker 1: with something that I have to do, like you know,
- 10:13Speaker 1: maybe I booked or maybe i'm you know, doing a
- 10:17Speaker 1: day job or something like that, and then they're like
- 10:19Speaker 1: they're they're like, well, if you go to this audition,
- 10:21Speaker 1: you're not you know, you might as well just quit.
- 10:24Speaker 1: And so, you know, my passion is show business, so
- 10:29Speaker 1: I would just go to the audition and then you know,
- 10:32Speaker 1: look the commercial and then it kind of reassures you
- 10:34Speaker 1: and let you know, remind you that you are where
- 10:36Speaker 1: you're supposed to be. Now, did you have any naysayers
- 10:42Speaker 1: around you that would make you doubt yourself or was
- 10:44Speaker 1: it just all like in your head where the doubt
- 10:47Speaker 1: would come and go? Um. I never really had any naysayers. Um.
- 10:53Speaker 1: But you know, any time if you ever have to
- 10:55Speaker 1: call a family member to tell you, you know, to
- 10:58Speaker 1: borrow money. Family member was a state man, you need
- 11:01Speaker 1: what you need to do. You need to move back home,
- 11:04Speaker 1: and you need to get a job, a real job,
- 11:07Speaker 1: you know. And those are the same family members, are
- 11:08Speaker 1: the same good friends or whatever that when you know
- 11:11Speaker 1: you're back doing what you do or what you set
- 11:15Speaker 1: out to do, those are the same people to tell
- 11:17Speaker 1: you that they knew you were going to make it.
- 11:20Speaker 1: You know, I knew he's gonna make it. Man, how
- 11:22Speaker 1: do you feel about men? It was something special about
- 11:24Speaker 1: you when I first met you. How do you feel
- 11:26Speaker 1: about that when you it's the nature of the business. Yeah, wow,
- 11:31Speaker 1: all right, let's try to try your cooking. And I
- 11:34Speaker 1: like that it's not too soupy. It's not too soupy.
- 11:37Speaker 1: So you look a little soft everybody. I'm not trying
- 11:41Speaker 1: to judge him, but because she was talking to me,
- 11:44Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, I normally don't, you know,
- 11:47Speaker 1: cook it as long as I did. So Colleen's fault.
- 11:54Speaker 1: It was good m hm, soft noodles on. You're welcome you.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I'm saying, I'm sorry for a gapping. When do you
- 12:03Speaker 1: feel like you were officially confident that the entertainment business
- 12:08Speaker 1: was where you were going to be? Like, was there
- 12:11Speaker 1: a level of like checks had to ride before you
- 12:14Speaker 1: were like, Okay, this is it, I'm never turning back
- 12:16Speaker 1: to Costco. Or well, I got fired from Costco so
- 12:20Speaker 1: I couldn't go back to Costco. Why did you get
- 12:22Speaker 1: fired because I went to an audition When I had it,
- 12:26Speaker 1: I had a jerk for for for a supervisor. Do
- 12:30Speaker 1: you shop at Costco? Finding? Okay? Do you ever like
- 12:36Speaker 1: when you see someone that did that type of thing
- 12:38Speaker 1: to you? Do you ever like wish you could bump
- 12:40Speaker 1: into them? I waved to him, why does he still
- 12:43Speaker 1: work there? Still Costco? He's one of those dudes. I
- 12:46Speaker 1: knew you were gonna make it. He probably takes side
- 12:51Speaker 1: tries to take credit. Do you know I'm gonna fire man?
- 12:55Speaker 1: Just to encourage me? Kenny? Can I cuts on here?
- 13:01Speaker 1: It's funny. I had Celebrity High, as you know. And
- 13:04Speaker 1: when I was creating the company, I worked at country Wide.
- 13:07Speaker 1: This was right before the crash, and yes, country Wide
- 13:10Speaker 1: played rolling. They had yeah, probably they had everyone, And
- 13:18Speaker 1: uh I remember I was doing Celebrity High and I
- 13:21Speaker 1: would have like the little posters of like what this
- 13:23Speaker 1: magazine was going to be, and a lot of my
- 13:25Speaker 1: coworkers would come by my desk the girls and they
- 13:27Speaker 1: would laugh at me because I drove a bucket that
- 13:29Speaker 1: like I could start with anything. And uh. I remember
- 13:34Speaker 1: country Wide fired me and I cried because I was broke.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I was only making like ten dollars an hour, and
- 13:40Speaker 1: of the ten dollars an hour, I was investing into
- 13:42Speaker 1: this idea. And I remember calling my grandfather and he
- 13:46Speaker 1: was just like, I'm so happy they fired you. And
- 13:48Speaker 1: I was like, how am I gonna pay my My
- 13:50Speaker 1: rom was like four a month. Do you remember when
- 13:52Speaker 1: was that cheap? And uh? But yeah, I looked back
- 13:57Speaker 1: and ironically enough, I am thankful that they fired me,
- 14:01Speaker 1: because sometimes that's that last inch you need to like
- 14:04Speaker 1: push your drive even further. Right, Yeah, absolutely, because I
- 14:08Speaker 1: mean one thing that I did have, I had health
- 14:10Speaker 1: insurance through Costco. I had if I needed to get
- 14:14Speaker 1: more hours at work, I could just you know, go
- 14:18Speaker 1: to switch the full time for like six months. And
- 14:21Speaker 1: it's really hard to get fired from Costco. Um so,
- 14:26Speaker 1: but getting fired from Costco definitely lit a fire under
- 14:30Speaker 1: my behind and I had to I mean from there,
- 14:35Speaker 1: I was a waiter at the soul food restaurant, you know. Uh,
- 14:38Speaker 1: and then right when I booked book that keeps saying. Right,
- 14:41Speaker 1: when I started waiting at this restaurant, I got this
- 14:45Speaker 1: gig um that took me to Korea for like six
- 14:49Speaker 1: months that paid me like and asked, well, at that time,
- 14:53Speaker 1: what felt like an astronomical amount of money? And so
- 14:56Speaker 1: I went over there and K pop groups and stuff.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Was at your first time flying out of the country. Absolutely, yeah,
- 15:04Speaker 1: I'm sure you were excited. I was, but I also
- 15:07Speaker 1: knew what you know, the money is what motivated because
- 15:09Speaker 1: if I could have stayed here made that money, I
- 15:11Speaker 1: would have, but there were no other offers at that point. Now,
- 15:15Speaker 1: was there ever anything that you did where say you like,
- 15:20Speaker 1: for instance, do you take wilding Out? And I know
- 15:22Speaker 1: wilding Out doesn't have a huge like every month schedule
- 15:25Speaker 1: is probably a couple of weeks. But have you ever
- 15:28Speaker 1: gotten an opportunity while you secured another opportunity? What was
- 15:34Speaker 1: the opportunity that you felt like you wish you you
- 15:37Speaker 1: didn't have to say no to? Um? Well, one thing
- 15:41Speaker 1: I'm never gonna do is say no to whiling out. Yeah, um,
- 15:46Speaker 1: but one of the things I mean. I So, what
- 15:50Speaker 1: happened when I there was one gig that I booked,
- 15:53Speaker 1: I booked a tour dancing for a popular artist and
- 15:57Speaker 1: m But the week before I went to the audition
- 16:03Speaker 1: for the dance audition, I auditioned for this big McDonald's commercial.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Every day we're seeing everybody. So I went to the audition,
- 16:13Speaker 1: and then that following week audition for the dance. I
- 16:17Speaker 1: went to the commercial audition, and then that following week
- 16:20Speaker 1: audition for the artist and um to be a dancer,
- 16:25Speaker 1: and then during that week I got a call back
- 16:28Speaker 1: for the McDonald's commercial. Right, so I went to the callback,
- 16:32Speaker 1: and I'm starting rehearsals for the the the dance, the
- 16:40Speaker 1: dance gig. So then you know, that's in the beginning
- 16:44Speaker 1: of the week. And then at the end of the week,
- 16:46Speaker 1: I get back from rehearsal for the dance gig and
- 16:49Speaker 1: I'm at home chilling. Is a Friday, and I didn't
- 16:52Speaker 1: get a call. I hadn't gotten a call from my
- 16:54Speaker 1: agent to let me know whether or not I booked
- 16:55Speaker 1: this gig, the commercial gig, and I'm laying in my
- 16:59Speaker 1: bed and I'm like, I'm looking at my watching this
- 17:01Speaker 1: like five something. I know the agency closest at six,
- 17:03Speaker 1: and then I'm like, I'm not gonna get this get
- 17:05Speaker 1: this gig five forty five fifty my phone rings and
- 17:11Speaker 1: my agent caused me. She says, uh, um, you just
- 17:14Speaker 1: put yourself un you know this commercial. I was like, what,
- 17:18Speaker 1: I'm like, She says, you shoot next third, next Friday,
- 17:22Speaker 1: so a week from that day. That day, I was
- 17:27Speaker 1: so that following week I was supposed to leave to
- 17:31Speaker 1: go to Orlando to do the first show for this
- 17:33Speaker 1: tour on Thursday. So which and that first show is
- 17:38Speaker 1: going to be on Friday when you're typing the commercial.
- 17:41Speaker 1: So I asked the choreographer and you know, talk to
- 17:44Speaker 1: the artists and stuff, and said, hey, I booked this commercial.
- 17:47Speaker 1: I really want to do this gig. I really want
- 17:50Speaker 1: to do the dance gig, but I really need to
- 17:51Speaker 1: do this commercial. And I said, so they had like dancers,
- 17:58Speaker 1: so they could have just you know, allowed me to do,
- 18:01Speaker 1: you know, miss that first show. I said, hey, can
- 18:04Speaker 1: I miss the first show? And they were like, well
- 18:06Speaker 1: if you can't miss. If you can't do the first show,
- 18:08Speaker 1: then you can't do the gig. You said, peace, and
- 18:13Speaker 1: he said to McDonald's, McDonald's paid more. Yeah, even though
- 18:18Speaker 1: I would I would have loved that had that experience
- 18:21Speaker 1: dancing for that artist. But once I did, that was
- 18:25Speaker 1: my first major commercial that I was the star of.
- 18:28Speaker 1: It was me and a whole bunch of little kids. Yeah,
- 18:33Speaker 1: it was literally me and a bunch of kids and
- 18:35Speaker 1: a a a McDonald's rapper that was like flying through
- 18:39Speaker 1: there and so but that just made me say, I am.
- 18:44Speaker 1: I am where I'm supposed to be. So what would
- 18:52Speaker 1: you say, like two people that are trying to get
- 18:54Speaker 1: in the game, you know, like, what would you say
- 18:57Speaker 1: to those that may have been trying for the last
- 18:59Speaker 1: five us ten years and still haven't been able to
- 19:01Speaker 1: make a decent check, but they're still going out? I
- 19:05Speaker 1: would say, you mean you still auditioning and things like that,
- 19:08Speaker 1: and they're starting to doubt themselves maybe they're in their
- 19:11Speaker 1: mid thirties, or I mean, keep a day job, like
- 19:16Speaker 1: you know, take care of yourself and your responsibilities. But
- 19:20Speaker 1: I mean, show business is not for everybody. But I'm
- 19:24Speaker 1: not I'm not the one to tell anybody to give up,
- 19:26Speaker 1: you know, I'll just if you feel that passion, just
- 19:30Speaker 1: keep pressing. Have you ever met, like say, a guy
- 19:34Speaker 1: that wants to be a rapper, a girl that wants
- 19:35Speaker 1: to be a rapper, and you're like you heard their
- 19:38Speaker 1: music and it's just not where it's where you think
- 19:42Speaker 1: it should be at. Do you do you ever tell
- 19:45Speaker 1: them to maybe look into alternatives or do you just no?
- 19:49Speaker 1: I never discourage people because I mean those people all
- 19:53Speaker 1: the time, because they're they're a way. There are much
- 19:58Speaker 1: more people that are not good at you know, they're
- 20:03Speaker 1: not good artists or they're just they're just not there yet.
- 20:08Speaker 1: But you know, I wasn't always there, So you just
- 20:12Speaker 1: keep going. You get better, but you still have to, like,
- 20:15Speaker 1: don't go rob banks and support that habit. Yeah, you
- 20:18Speaker 1: gotta keep a job. If you've got kids and responsibilities,
- 20:21Speaker 1: you gotta do what you gotta do to survive, you know,
- 20:25Speaker 1: including eating alone round exactly. And I'm enjoying mine. She
- 20:30Speaker 1: didn't look like I have to ask questions and have
- 20:33Speaker 1: a whole interview. But the second the cameras cut, I'm
- 20:36Speaker 1: gonna be taking a couple of extra fights. What season
- 20:38Speaker 1: are you on a walling out? Now? We just wrap
- 20:41Speaker 1: season sixteen? Sixteen seasons? What would you say is the
- 20:45Speaker 1: one thing you walked away learning the most of benefiting
- 20:48Speaker 1: the most from walling out? I would say that even
- 20:52Speaker 1: though as steady as that gig is it can still
- 20:58Speaker 1: go away like that. Speaking of that, when the whole
- 21:05Speaker 1: controversy with the Jewish and wilding out and some of
- 21:10Speaker 1: the comments Nick made, did a part of you panic
- 21:15Speaker 1: a little bit that there was a chance that the
- 21:17Speaker 1: show wasn'tna come back, or have you been there before
- 21:20Speaker 1: so you were prepared? I was not prepared. UM kind
- 21:27Speaker 1: of panned a little bit because I mean, at this point,
- 21:29Speaker 1: I have a family, and you know, this is my
- 21:36Speaker 1: main source of income. I mean, I've been on the
- 21:38Speaker 1: show of since day one, you know what I mean?
- 21:41Speaker 1: And so, uh, I literally if all I did was
- 21:44Speaker 1: wilding out, that's all I have to do. Yeah. So yeah,
- 21:49Speaker 1: So so I panicked a little bit. But then, I mean,
- 21:54Speaker 1: I know Nick and I kind of understood everything that
- 21:57Speaker 1: was kind of was happening, and I was in touch
- 21:59Speaker 1: with Um, with other producers on the show, the executive
- 22:03Speaker 1: producers was in touch with Nick and everybody. So we
- 22:05Speaker 1: were having conversations, and I felt confident that we were
- 22:08Speaker 1: going to come back, you know. And then one of
- 22:11Speaker 1: the the most um negative people on this show and
- 22:17Speaker 1: one of the most negative producers on the show, he
- 22:19Speaker 1: called me and he said, we'll be back we just
- 22:22Speaker 1: gotta work some things out. Once he felt confident that
- 22:26Speaker 1: we'd be back, then, um, I felt really confident. But
- 22:31Speaker 1: I just you know, it doesn't matter how much money
- 22:34Speaker 1: you have when money is just going out. I mean,
- 22:37Speaker 1: because it wasn't just the pandemic, it was when the
- 22:39Speaker 1: show went away, and then you couldn't get other gigs
- 22:42Speaker 1: because you know, there weren't many other gigs you could
- 22:44Speaker 1: get that we're paying the kind of money that you
- 22:46Speaker 1: needed to sustain the lifestyle that you already have. So
- 22:51Speaker 1: when that happened, I was like, Okay, I'm confident that
- 22:56Speaker 1: we're gonna come back. When when are we gonna come
- 22:58Speaker 1: back now? Because pretty soon, when money is just going
- 23:01Speaker 1: out and doesn't matter how much you have, you know
- 23:04Speaker 1: you gotta take care of that overhead. No, I'm just
- 23:06Speaker 1: curious just to get into the Devil's advocates say it
- 23:11Speaker 1: didn't come back, and you know you have your family,
- 23:15Speaker 1: would you ever like if pandemic because during the pandemic
- 23:19Speaker 1: there was no tape and there was absolutely nothing going on.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Would you ever, you know, do whatever job. I love
- 23:27Speaker 1: that you are really enjoying this dish. I'm gonna save
- 23:31Speaker 1: mine just so we could just but um, would you ever?
- 23:38Speaker 1: Are you? Do you feel like you're above going back
- 23:41Speaker 1: and getting a real job just to support your family. No,
- 23:44Speaker 1: I do not feel like I want above. That's and
- 23:48Speaker 1: I would have done that if if I need to,
- 23:51Speaker 1: And I still do that if I have to. Wow,
- 23:54Speaker 1: that's amazing. That's amazing to hear that. Now. When I
- 23:58Speaker 1: saw the whole controversy with the While and Out, so
- 24:01Speaker 1: I honestly didn't feel like anything Nick said was controversial.
- 24:06Speaker 1: I don't want to say controversial. It was a total
- 24:09Speaker 1: negative slant. I thought maybe his quotes were missed, he
- 24:12Speaker 1: didn't quote them. Well, but I understand what cancel culture.
- 24:16Speaker 1: It's like you're you're really skating on the nice while Now.
- 24:20Speaker 1: It's kind of interesting because there's a level of comedian
- 24:26Speaker 1: breach where nothing is off the table, but yet cancel culture. Yeah,
- 24:32Speaker 1: but cancel culture hasn't even come for some of the
- 24:35Speaker 1: stuff that While and Out has, you know, some of
- 24:38Speaker 1: the jokes that have aired on this show. But do
- 24:41Speaker 1: you feel like now that cancel culture is becoming more
- 24:44Speaker 1: of a mainstream being comics are starting or when you
- 24:48Speaker 1: guys in your writing room, they're starting to be like, well,
- 24:50Speaker 1: maybe we should inch away from this. I mean, I
- 24:55Speaker 1: don't I don't know all that Nick said. I never
- 24:58Speaker 1: saw all of that whole podcast Um episode. But I
- 25:07Speaker 1: think that what it has done is it it has
- 25:11Speaker 1: made people that like comedians just more aware because comedians,
- 25:15Speaker 1: at the end of the day, they don't care what
- 25:18Speaker 1: anybody like. That's their freedom to They're not the PC police.
- 25:25Speaker 1: But and you know, and comedians that they want to
- 25:28Speaker 1: they want to say what they want to say. I mean,
- 25:30Speaker 1: they community are some demented people, a lot of them,
- 25:33Speaker 1: you know, you know, to find humor in some of
- 25:37Speaker 1: the most tragic things, or just to to find humor
- 25:41Speaker 1: just everyday life that we all live. And uh, you know,
- 25:44Speaker 1: they tell their experience and and you know we all
- 25:48Speaker 1: laugh from that because we can relate to it's all relatable.
- 25:51Speaker 1: You know, that should be something that they're allowed to do,
- 25:55Speaker 1: but it's aware. It definitely has made us aware. And
- 25:58Speaker 1: I think that what makes I my little brother is
- 26:01Speaker 1: a comedian, my husband's a comedian. When I look at them,
- 26:05Speaker 1: I'm like, what makes you guys great is actually keeping
- 26:10Speaker 1: it real. To put a censor on on comedy is
- 26:15Speaker 1: a weird space, right, I mean, to my understanding. Nick
- 26:20Speaker 1: wasn't telling jokes at the time, you know, he was
- 26:22Speaker 1: doing he was doing his podcast interview and people get offended.
- 26:26Speaker 1: You can't help how people feel, you know, and people
- 26:29Speaker 1: are gonna feel the way they're gonna feel. And not
- 26:31Speaker 1: everybody's gonna be happy with you, you know. But I'm
- 26:34Speaker 1: going to post the most positive posts on Instagram or
- 26:37Speaker 1: social media and somebody's gonna have something negative. You'd have
- 26:41Speaker 1: a thousand positive comments and the one that's gonna stick
- 26:45Speaker 1: out is the negative one. Yeah. Yeah, when you and
- 26:48Speaker 1: Nick got together, this was long before whiling out or
- 26:51Speaker 1: did you have to audition onto walling out and you
- 26:54Speaker 1: guys just built your relationship from there. No, I met Nick.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I met Nick in ninety seven. We didn't start wilding
- 27:01Speaker 1: Out until two thousand four. So and actually wilding Out
- 27:05Speaker 1: was created in my living room. Yeah, because at the
- 27:10Speaker 1: time Nick was renting, uh he was, he was my roommate.
- 27:14Speaker 1: So in North Hollywood, in Studio City. I was gonna say,
- 27:17Speaker 1: not the walk up where you cannot that. So you
- 27:23Speaker 1: guys were roommates, and then he conceived this idea in
- 27:26Speaker 1: the living room. Yeah, we were just at the crib,
- 27:28Speaker 1: you know, just acting silly doing you know, I can't
- 27:32Speaker 1: remember everything we were. We're just doing stupid stuff. And
- 27:35Speaker 1: then you know, Nick comes up with this idea and
- 27:38Speaker 1: says it can be a TV show. And we were
- 27:39Speaker 1: at that time, we were doing the whole you know,
- 27:42Speaker 1: we were on tour. We had been on tour, were
- 27:44Speaker 1: doing like the Scream Tour and the and he had
- 27:48Speaker 1: like a little not a little, a little rap career,
- 27:52Speaker 1: but he had I think it was like jo or something.
- 27:57Speaker 1: He had something out and we were doing a lot
- 28:00Speaker 1: of shows. So you guys weren't necessarily broke then, but
- 28:03Speaker 1: you guys were like, yeah, but we were still living
- 28:06Speaker 1: paycheck to paycheck, you know, I mean record deals. It
- 28:10Speaker 1: looks all glamorous, you know, and sometimes once you sell
- 28:13Speaker 1: records you can make some money. But you know, we
- 28:17Speaker 1: were doing shows, we were traveling, we were you know,
- 28:20Speaker 1: but we were still the roommates in an apartment. I
- 28:24Speaker 1: love that so um And that's crazy. You look at
- 28:28Speaker 1: Wall and Out now and it has this huge budget
- 28:31Speaker 1: and it's a little different now, yeah, from when you
- 28:34Speaker 1: guys first started. Now, I remember hearing like when you
- 28:36Speaker 1: guys first when it first started, it was like in
- 28:39Speaker 1: a club and it was like, did you guys self
- 28:41Speaker 1: shoot it or we did? The first pilot was at
- 28:45Speaker 1: a club called the Comedy Union down on Off Brea
- 28:53Speaker 1: in l A. And that's the one that MTV saw
- 28:56Speaker 1: and they liked it, and then we did um, MTV
- 29:00Speaker 1: paid for us to do a yeah, and so that
- 29:05Speaker 1: was that was kind of cool. We did that at
- 29:06Speaker 1: a club. We did that at a Princess old club,
- 29:09Speaker 1: I think, I think that's what we did. And then um,
- 29:15Speaker 1: a couple of months after that, MTV I wanted to
- 29:18Speaker 1: buy like six or ten episodes or something like that,
- 29:20Speaker 1: so we went to series there and you know, besides
- 29:24Speaker 1: that low that we had between two thousand and seven
- 29:27Speaker 1: and two thousand and twelve or thirteen or something like that,
- 29:32Speaker 1: you know, the show has never been off the air, like,
- 29:34Speaker 1: you know, besides but this recent thing. But it was
- 29:39Speaker 1: always on the air. They were always playing reruns. But yeah,
- 29:43Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I never thought that I wouldn't
- 29:47Speaker 1: be able to make a living in this business. Never. Never. Wow,
- 29:53Speaker 1: that's amazing. I think when I interview a lot of people,
- 29:58Speaker 1: especially at this table, they're all as well, celebrities, influencers, entrepreneurs,
- 30:02Speaker 1: and they all had that level of confidence, like we
- 30:06Speaker 1: knew at some point, even though we were homeless, we
- 30:09Speaker 1: were going to make it. Yeah, because you know, when
- 30:11Speaker 1: you're trash, do you think? So you have to Hopefully
- 30:15Speaker 1: you're self aware enough to just know, because I've seen
- 30:17Speaker 1: a lot of talent going American Idol, and you know,
- 30:20Speaker 1: I'm like, come on, man, but they probably know because
- 30:26Speaker 1: I sometimes when I sing to myself in the shower,
- 30:29Speaker 1: I'm like, I sound great, like move over, Mariah, and
- 30:33Speaker 1: then like if I were to record it, I play
- 30:36Speaker 1: it back, I'm like, oh, that's reality right there. You know.
- 30:41Speaker 1: I just have to ask when you look at where
- 30:44Speaker 1: you guys started UM to where you're at now, do
- 30:49Speaker 1: you ever just sit back and go like that's crazy?
- 30:55Speaker 1: Absolutely do you don you and Nick ever step off
- 30:57Speaker 1: the stage and say can you believe this? Especially like yeah,
- 31:01Speaker 1: we we have UM, especially like when we're doing the
- 31:05Speaker 1: tour wild Out Tour, Like I can't remember what city
- 31:09Speaker 1: we were in, but you know it was a basketball
- 31:12Speaker 1: arena in a major city and it was sold out,
- 31:16Speaker 1: so it was like, you know, not just the floor,
- 31:19Speaker 1: but it was like probably eighteen thousand people there and
- 31:24Speaker 1: you just hear like the opening DJ playing music and stuff,
- 31:28Speaker 1: and you you walk into the backstage area and you
- 31:32Speaker 1: can see the audience and it's just thousands and thousands
- 31:36Speaker 1: and thousands of people. And I remember saying to him,
- 31:41Speaker 1: can you believe this started in the living room? You
- 31:46Speaker 1: know what I mean? And that's when you know Nick.
- 31:49Speaker 1: You know, Nick is too cool for school sometimes and
- 31:50Speaker 1: Nick's like it's crazy, huh. And then we're just you know,
- 31:54Speaker 1: and then I go out on stage and I introduced Nick,
- 31:56Speaker 1: and then we do our show. You know him? But
- 32:00Speaker 1: does happen a couple of times you kind of have
- 32:03Speaker 1: to you have to step outside of yourself sometimes, I think,
- 32:06Speaker 1: and to appreciate what you what you've accomplished, you know
- 32:10Speaker 1: what I'm saying, What you've been blessed to accomplish. And um,
- 32:15Speaker 1: I think that's kind of that's smelling the roses, you know.
- 32:21Speaker 1: And then I just have one last question and then
- 32:22Speaker 1: we'll wrap. Um. And this is kind of go back
- 32:25Speaker 1: going back to when you guys, oh when the pilot,
- 32:29Speaker 1: when you're pitching MTV, where you guys cold calling or
- 32:32Speaker 1: are you calling every relationship in your roller decks saying here,
- 32:35Speaker 1: I got this great idea. Here's the tape for it
- 32:37Speaker 1: or was it all a word document in a deck? No.
- 32:41Speaker 1: I mean, you know, Nick is the one that had
- 32:44Speaker 1: all of those you know, relationships, um, and he had
- 32:50Speaker 1: all those avenues to get you know, because that wasn't
- 32:53Speaker 1: Nick's first pilot. He had done probably called Loose Cannon
- 32:56Speaker 1: that we did, um, we did another show called The
- 32:59Speaker 1: Nick Cannon Show. We did two shows called the Nick
- 33:02Speaker 1: Cannon So one didn't go who one ended up on Nickelodeon. UM.
- 33:07Speaker 1: So you know, and you know Nick at the time,
- 33:13Speaker 1: especially Nick was like Hollywood's little guy that they were
- 33:19Speaker 1: trying to figure out, hollywood young new little guy that
- 33:21Speaker 1: they were trying to figure out, what can we do
- 33:23Speaker 1: with this guy? Because he's talented and he's got some
- 33:26Speaker 1: great ideas, and he was like clean cut. He was
- 33:28Speaker 1: like that clean he was like the new version of
- 33:30Speaker 1: the Freshman. Yeah. Yeah, I would definitely say that. Yeah.
- 33:34Speaker 1: So you know, so he was able to use that
- 33:38Speaker 1: to pitch the show, and the people wanted to be
- 33:41Speaker 1: in business with him, you know what I mean. I
- 33:43Speaker 1: mean he's a likable Yeah, he's very nice, very nice,
- 33:47Speaker 1: very likable, very hard working. Now he's got you know,
- 33:51Speaker 1: neck tattoos. It's yeah, that can be a whole another discussion.
- 33:55Speaker 1: But I'm so happy that you came out and fed
- 34:00Speaker 1: me uh some bologny fried bologny ramen. It's be flavored,
- 34:08Speaker 1: and now I officially know how to fry rom well.
