Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, Discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party of the bridge to get you from one
- 0:37Speaker 1: full episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard, to
- 0:40Speaker 1: dig into the dirt. On this bonus episode, we are talking,
- 0:43Speaker 1: well mainly you are talking. We get into a ton
- 0:47Speaker 1: of your texts, voicemails, dms and more on everything under
- 0:50Speaker 1: the sun, your stories of rock and roll, animalism, more
- 0:54Speaker 1: on your favorite Christmas songs, what's in the skies of
- 0:56Speaker 1: New Jersey, your favorite SNL characters, and more, and as always,
- 1:00Speaker 1: a whole lot of rosie. All right, Discos, let's get
- 1:05Speaker 1: into it. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukah. Wherever you
- 1:21Speaker 1: are in the world, whatever you're doing, I hope you're
- 1:24Speaker 1: enjoying some peace of mind, and I hope that there's
- 1:26Speaker 1: some peace in your heart. I asked you guys last
- 1:28Speaker 1: week for your stories of rock and roll animalism of
- 1:32Speaker 1: stories that you've heard, stories you've been a part of
- 1:34Speaker 1: that left an impression on you, Stories that are so
- 1:37Speaker 1: dramatic you can't put them down, that you and your
- 1:39Speaker 1: friends keep going back to you. I asked, because this
- 1:42Speaker 1: is our newfound mission here in disgraceon to preserve the
- 1:45Speaker 1: true spirit of rock and roll, to try to keep
- 1:47Speaker 1: this dying Dodo bird of a genre alive in some way,
- 1:50Speaker 1: whether it's Chuck Berry picking up pitchhikers after a gig,
- 1:53Speaker 1: or Ggi Allen's brother punching out a fan on stage.
- 1:56Speaker 1: We want to know, We want to retell, and we
- 1:58Speaker 1: want to document these stories.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Hey, Jake, this is Joe from the five three Hate,
- 2:03Speaker 2: big fan of your show. Keep up the good work.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I wanted to tell you what my favorite rock legend is,
- 2:12Speaker 2: and that would be the one where Phil Kaufman, Grand
- 2:16Speaker 2: Parsons manager, still his dead body from lax in a
- 2:21Speaker 2: hearse and took it to Joshua Tree and cremated it.
- 2:25Speaker 2: It's a pretty sweet story. I can't blame him for
- 2:29Speaker 2: wanting to be cremated there, and God blessed Phil Kaufman.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Looking forward to hearing more and hope to hear a
- 2:36Speaker 2: disgrace Land just about Graham one of these days.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Jeers, Joe, thanks for colling. I played your voicemail because
- 2:43Speaker 1: this is the perfect story to demonstrate the rock and
- 2:47Speaker 1: roll analysm that I'm talking about. And even though most
- 2:49Speaker 1: of us, I think you're familiar with this story, it
- 2:52Speaker 1: bears repeating because we're getting new listeners all the time.
- 2:55Speaker 1: There's people who are as familiar with rock and roll
- 2:57Speaker 1: lore as some of us might be. They're younger, whatever
- 3:02Speaker 1: the case may be. They're interested, they're new to this space,
- 3:05Speaker 1: and this story is one of the og Disgraceland stories.
- 3:10Speaker 1: When I think about stories, it made me want to
- 3:12Speaker 1: start Disgraceland. This is one of them. I first heard
- 3:16Speaker 1: this story working on a loading dock in my high
- 3:18Speaker 1: school years, summers working for my old man, trying to
- 3:21Speaker 1: make some extra cash, hating every minute of the work part,
- 3:24Speaker 1: loving every minute of the bullshitting they went along with,
- 3:26Speaker 1: hanging out with the older guys on the crew who
- 3:28Speaker 1: worked on the trucks. Occasionally, I too get to go
- 3:32Speaker 1: on the trucks and the stories that I heard were incredible,
- 3:34Speaker 1: and this was one of them, told to me by
- 3:37Speaker 1: a guy named Joe Allen. B people from the Boston
- 3:40Speaker 1: music scene will know Joe, except in Joe's telling, Keith
- 3:43Speaker 1: Richards was involved somehow. I'm not exactly sure that's accurate.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe people know something that I don't,
- 3:53Speaker 1: possibly behind the stolen body hest though don't think so. Anyways,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I'm fairly certain the Keith Richer part is not true.
- 4:00Speaker 1: But however, the story of Graham parsons body being stolen
- 4:04Speaker 1: is absolutely true. I spoke with the man who did it,
- 4:06Speaker 1: Phil Kaufman. He did indeed steal Graham Parsons's body. I
- 4:11Speaker 1: can't remember how I got Phil's number, but I did,
- 4:14Speaker 1: and I called him up when I was writing my book,
- 4:16Speaker 1: and Phil was helpful, if not super crotchety in this story.
- 4:21Speaker 1: The Grand Parsons Grand Theft Parsons, as the movie title goes,
- 4:25Speaker 1: the Johnny Knoxville movie. This is a big part of
- 4:29Speaker 1: my book. It's obviously a huge part of the Disgrace
- 4:32Speaker 1: Line episode on Graham Parsons, which if you haven't heard it,
- 4:36Speaker 1: you must. It embodies what this show is about. If
- 4:39Speaker 1: you've never heard of Graham Parsons, he basically invented all
- 4:42Speaker 1: country without giving it a name. Well, he did give
- 4:44Speaker 1: it a name, but that's not what he called it.
- 4:46Speaker 1: He called it cosmic American music, and he influenced the
- 4:50Speaker 1: Rolling Stones in real time, compelled them to make what
- 4:52Speaker 1: I think is their greatest album and possibly the greatest
- 4:56Speaker 1: rock and roll album of all time, Eggsile on Main Street.
- 4:59Speaker 1: So the storylory of Graham's body being stolen and brought
- 5:03Speaker 1: out to Joshua Tree for a desert pirate funeral is
- 5:06Speaker 1: one hundred percent disgraceland. I thank you for the voicemail
- 5:10Speaker 1: five oh three, and for anyone else who has not
- 5:12Speaker 1: heard the Graham Parsons episode, go check that out. Even
- 5:14Speaker 1: if you have heard it, go check it out. Listen
- 5:16Speaker 1: to it again. It's a I guarantee it's gonna better
- 5:19Speaker 1: on second listening. Okay, Nile from the five oh five
- 5:22Speaker 1: called in and left the voicemail.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Hey Jacobs is Niall from the five o five in
- 5:27Speaker 3: New Mexico. Good job on everything. Always as always that
- 5:31Speaker 3: I I've always had a question about the gross out
- 5:35Speaker 3: contest between Alice Cooper and Frank Zappa.
- 5:40Speaker 1: But I'm not going to play Nile's voicemail because it's disgusting.
- 5:46Speaker 1: All I have to say is that Nile even though
- 5:48Speaker 1: your rock and roll story is too gross to play,
- 5:50Speaker 1: you might have convinced me to do an Alice Cooper episode.
- 5:52Speaker 1: So a bit of a tease here. We brought up
- 5:54Speaker 1: Alice Cooper. Someone brought up Alice Cooper last week. I
- 5:57Speaker 1: think I did. Actually, yeah, I did, but I've gotten
- 6:00Speaker 1: I've got other voicemails, sorry, other dms and texts. This
- 6:03Speaker 1: is the only voicemail. That's why I wanted to play it,
- 6:05Speaker 1: but I did not want to go into the details.
- 6:09Speaker 1: So guys, I guess niles El's Cooper's story is developing.
- 6:13Speaker 1: More on this as we go, all right. Gabe Ceta
- 6:15Speaker 1: on Instagram writ saying, Okay, I wanted to share my
- 6:19Speaker 1: favorite rock and roll story. Back sometime around maybe two
- 6:21Speaker 1: thousand and seven, I saw the Murder Junkies at a
- 6:24Speaker 1: legendary Pittsburgh venue called thirty first Street Pub. They were
- 6:27Speaker 1: being fronted by Gigi's brother Merle Allen, and in between songs,
- 6:31Speaker 1: a twenty something kid kept yelling for Merle to punch
- 6:34Speaker 1: him in the face man, and Merle said, quote, your
- 6:39Speaker 1: dad is probably a lawyer and you'll sue me for
- 6:41Speaker 1: everything I have, But fuck it, I don't have shit,
- 6:44Speaker 1: And then Merle proceeded to punch this kid full strength
- 6:46Speaker 1: square Oh boy, just under the eye and his hand
- 6:51Speaker 1: with his hand and a fist rapping around the microphone.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. The kid took it like a champ.
- 6:55Speaker 1: His knees buckled a little, but his friends kept him
- 6:57Speaker 1: on his feet and he enjoyed the rest of the
- 6:58Speaker 1: show from right in front of the stage with blood
- 7:00Speaker 1: dripping down his face. It was punk af, punk af
- 7:03Speaker 1: and just dumb gabber Gaber. Sorry, I don't know if
- 7:07Speaker 1: I'm pronouncing your Instagram handle correctly. I think it's Gaber
- 7:10Speaker 1: because your name's Gabe. I never understood that aspect of
- 7:14Speaker 1: punk rock, the self imposed violence and destruction and you know,
- 7:21Speaker 1: spitting on each other and that whole, the whole gg
- 7:24Speaker 1: Allen side of it. Oh boy, Uh just yeah. I
- 7:29Speaker 1: mean you want to talk about rock and roll animalism?
- 7:31Speaker 1: Gg Allen is on another level for sure. It's like
- 7:33Speaker 1: he needs his own category completely, all right. Five four
- 7:37Speaker 1: to one writes in Hey, j Corge Venezuela in the
- 7:40Speaker 1: five to four to one here been listening since twenty
- 7:42Speaker 1: twenty right in the middle of the COVID lockdowns, I
- 7:44Speaker 1: found your podcast and have been hooked since I backtracked him.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Now listened to the entire Disgracelands series on Spotify and
- 7:50Speaker 1: eagerly await each new episode and bonus episode like a fiend. Anyway,
- 7:56Speaker 1: my rock star story is that I opened for Kid
- 7:58Speaker 1: Rock at the Rose Theater in Portland, Oregon in October
- 8:02Speaker 1: two thousand and seven. The local band that was supposed
- 8:06Speaker 1: to open for Kid Rock dropped out in the last second,
- 8:09Speaker 1: so they went down the line outside the building asking
- 8:12Speaker 1: for volunteers. Me, trying to impress my future wife, raise
- 8:16Speaker 1: my hand and they asked, without knowing that they would
- 8:19Speaker 1: be asking me to sing a karaoke song to open
- 8:22Speaker 1: for Kid Rock. I chose killing in the Name by
- 8:25Speaker 1: rage against the Machine and completely fucking crushed it. Even
- 8:29Speaker 1: had Amashpik going during the fuck you won't do it
- 8:32Speaker 1: you tell me part talk about core memory. It also
- 8:34Speaker 1: sealed the deal with my wife. She got a good
- 8:36Speaker 1: glimpse at what I'm all about. I could see her
- 8:38Speaker 1: in the front row staring up at me with a
- 8:40Speaker 1: look in her eye that said, what am I getting
- 8:43Speaker 1: myself into? Needless to say, one of the best nights
- 8:45Speaker 1: of my life. Keep up the great work and as always,
- 8:48Speaker 1: rock a rolla and Merry Christmas, which is confidentially also
- 8:51Speaker 1: my forty fourth birthday, Orge, Happy birthday, buddy. I love
- 8:55Speaker 1: this story. I hope your wife is still your wife.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I hope you're not, you know, laying down a little
- 9:01Speaker 1: fuck you. I won't do it. You tell me at
- 9:03Speaker 1: the holiday Christmas karaoke and alien eaton the old missus.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Great story, exactly what we're looking for. Thank you, Jorge,
- 9:10Speaker 1: Appreciate you, Jorge, just real, real, real quick. Jorgey wanted
- 9:14Speaker 1: to shout out his twin brothers, Nick and Derek. So
- 9:18Speaker 1: Nick and Derek, if you're listening, your brother's thinking of you.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Merry Christmas. Kerrie Kennedy writes in Disgrace Lampot at gemail
- 9:24Speaker 1: dot com. She emailed this, Hey, Jake, really entertained by
- 9:27Speaker 1: the podcast and appreciate your storytelling. Came to Disgraceland from
- 9:30Speaker 1: the Dead and Gone podcast. My mom was a massive
- 9:33Speaker 1: Willie Nelson fan. I've literally been going to Willie concert
- 9:36Speaker 1: since before I was born in Utero through the day
- 9:40Speaker 1: I graduated from college. I am convinced that part of
- 9:43Speaker 1: what kept her fascinated was the rock and Roll stories
- 9:47Speaker 1: around Willie Nelson her favorite and now mine because I
- 9:52Speaker 1: haven't heard it anywhere else, including Disgrace. Sam is that
- 9:55Speaker 1: Willie came home drunk and having been with a girlfriend,
- 9:58Speaker 1: and his wife so him into the sheets at the
- 10:01Speaker 1: bed while he was passed out, packed up and his
- 10:05Speaker 1: wife left. Because how much it fascinated my mom, I
- 10:07Speaker 1: think it still has a hold on me, this story,
- 10:09Speaker 1: and I kind of don't care if it's true. It's
- 10:11Speaker 1: a great story either way. Rock and ROLLA Carrie and
- 10:15Speaker 1: Annapolis Marilyn Carrie, what a fantastic story. This is incredible.
- 10:19Speaker 1: And yes you've never heard this story in dis Graceland.
- 10:22Speaker 1: We have I think, yeah, two Willie Nelson episodes and
- 10:26Speaker 1: this story did not come across our desk. It's amazing.
- 10:30Speaker 1: And yeah, even if it's not true, it's still amazing.
- 10:32Speaker 1: I love it. Thanks Carry Travis Carter writes in this
- 10:36Speaker 1: is via email as well. Hey Jake, first off, thoroughly
- 10:39Speaker 1: enjoyed the podcast. I love history, I love rock and roll.
- 10:41Speaker 1: In your show's perfect marriage of these two things, along
- 10:44Speaker 1: with great storytime of quite a few rock and roll
- 10:46Speaker 1: stories from my younger days back in the mid to
- 10:49Speaker 1: late eighties, and one of my favorites was the time
- 10:51Speaker 1: that I saw Motorhead open for Slayer at the Ocean
- 10:54Speaker 1: Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. After the show, we customarily
- 10:58Speaker 1: would go out to the tour buses to try to
- 11:00Speaker 1: meet the bands, and I was around sixteen at the time,
- 11:02Speaker 1: and Lemmy for Motorhead happened to be standing outside the
- 11:05Speaker 1: bus signing autographs, and when we got our turn to
- 11:08Speaker 1: meet him, we asked for a photo, to which he exclaimed,
- 11:11Speaker 1: of course, mates, and proceeded to grab both me and
- 11:14Speaker 1: my friend in headlocks for the photo. It's one of
- 11:16Speaker 1: the coolest interactions I've ever had with any rock star
- 11:19Speaker 1: that I've met. To this day, I don't know what
- 11:21Speaker 1: happened to this photo because I wasn't my camera, but
- 11:23Speaker 1: I wish I had a copy of it. Travis, this
- 11:25Speaker 1: is amazing. I appreciate this, and I'm reading this in
- 11:28Speaker 1: part not just because it's a great story, but also
- 11:30Speaker 1: I saw the same tour but up in Boston. I
- 11:34Speaker 1: was real young. My old man took me and it
- 11:36Speaker 1: was mind blowing. I remember it was truly scary all
- 11:40Speaker 1: of it, and Overkill was the opening band. I don't
- 11:43Speaker 1: know if it was on the leg of the tour
- 11:45Speaker 1: that you saw. But Motorhead came out. They were opening
- 11:47Speaker 1: for Slayer, and it was truly frightening. They were truly frightening.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I was in the sixth grade, i believe, and that
- 11:58Speaker 1: was scary enough. But then and I was a motor fan,
- 12:00Speaker 1: but I'd never seen anything like this. I'd been to
- 12:02Speaker 1: concerts before, been to huge stadium shows, never anything like this.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I think I'd see Jimmy Page in the firm by
- 12:08Speaker 1: this point. I might have seen ac DC by this point.
- 12:11Speaker 1: This was another level. It was dangerous, It was scary.
- 12:15Speaker 1: The crowd was dangerous. The crowd was scary. The volume,
- 12:20Speaker 1: the sound of this concert was the loudest, loudest thing
- 12:22Speaker 1: I'd ever heard to that point in my life. And
- 12:25Speaker 1: then Slayer came on and everything was that much extra.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I love Motorhead, I love Slayer, but it was horrifying
- 12:33Speaker 1: in the best possible rock and roll way. What a frickin' show, Travis,
- 12:39Speaker 1: thanks for reminding me of it. I appreciate you. All Right, guys,
- 12:42Speaker 1: next week we've got an episode on Hank Williams. Why well,
- 12:45Speaker 1: aside from the fact that Hank is the greatest country
- 12:47Speaker 1: songwriter of all time, also one of the greatest songwriters period.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Hank died right around New Year's Day or on Newyears Day,
- 12:54Speaker 1: excuse me, on Newsday and next week, you know, we
- 12:58Speaker 1: usher in the new year, so you're gonna get some
- 13:00Speaker 1: Hank Williams in your feed. And when you're listening to
- 13:02Speaker 1: Hank and nursing your your champagne hangover, be thinking about
- 13:07Speaker 1: those sad songs, those songwriters whose words and music make
- 13:11Speaker 1: you tear up, who cut you to the bone, who
- 13:14Speaker 1: get you all emotional? Who are the singers that bring
- 13:18Speaker 1: you to tears like Hank Williams does to me? That's
- 13:21Speaker 1: what I want to know. Which singers, which songwriters make
- 13:24Speaker 1: you all emotional, give you all the feels, tear you
- 13:27Speaker 1: up emotionally. Let me know six one seven nine oh
- 13:29Speaker 1: six six six three eight. You can leave me a voicemail,
- 13:33Speaker 1: send me a text, can hit me up to s
- 13:34Speaker 1: Gracelampod at gmail dot com or at s Gracelampod on Facebook,
- 13:39Speaker 1: on x on Instagram. All right, of course, as always,
- 13:42Speaker 1: keep the stories of rock and roll animalism coming. We
- 13:46Speaker 1: got a bunch more in here. I'll probably read more
- 13:49Speaker 1: of them next week, but I want more from you guys,
- 13:51Speaker 1: and tell me your story of your text voicemail will
- 13:54Speaker 1: get into it here in the after party and eventually
- 13:57Speaker 1: out in the real world as well, and some fun
- 14:00Speaker 1: in exciting ways that I'm still putting together. All right,
- 14:02Speaker 1: I'll be back in a flash with more of your
- 14:03Speaker 1: stories and some responses on your favorite Christmas tunes and
- 14:06Speaker 1: your favorite SNL characters. Plus TENZ Tiny Little Diddy jay
- 14:11Speaker 1: Z update. All right, we are back, and I was
- 14:31Speaker 1: hoping that I wouldn't have to talk about the grossness
- 14:33Speaker 1: that is the allegations against Sean Ditty Combs in jay
- 14:37Speaker 1: Z this week Christmas Week, And I might regret saying this,
- 14:41Speaker 1: but as of the recording of this episode, there is
- 14:44Speaker 1: no news worthy enough of getting into here in this space.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Of course, there is some rumblings out there that they
- 14:52Speaker 1: did make some media. Jay Z's lawyers and Tony Busby
- 14:55Speaker 1: are going back and forth in the press. Jay's lawyers
- 14:58Speaker 1: are trying to get the case thrown out. There's yet
- 15:00Speaker 1: another woman accusing Sean Combs of abuse. But like I said,
- 15:04Speaker 1: no news worthy of getting into here. We'll surely have
- 15:08Speaker 1: more though when we returned for the new year, got
- 15:11Speaker 1: a special, fully scripted episode on Diddy coming the second
- 15:16Speaker 1: week of January. The details the indictments against him and
- 15:21Speaker 1: all of the alleged behavior that compelled those indictments relative
- 15:25Speaker 1: to Sean didty Combs's background in history. So this is
- 15:28Speaker 1: a straight up disgrace in an episode. We did a
- 15:30Speaker 1: Diddy episode last year. Okay, we're gonna put that back
- 15:34Speaker 1: in the feed because it's a part one. It's a
- 15:36Speaker 1: natural part one. We didn't intend for it to be
- 15:38Speaker 1: a part one. We thought at the time we were
- 15:40Speaker 1: just doing an episode on Seawn Combs, and then all
- 15:42Speaker 1: holy hell broke loose with the cast event tourist story.
- 15:46Speaker 1: We had already had that episode written and recorded and
- 15:49Speaker 1: ready to go when the cast event tour story broke.
- 15:52Speaker 1: We released that episode about two weeks after Comb's settled
- 15:57Speaker 1: with Cassie, and it's mainly story about his upcoming, his upbringing,
- 16:03Speaker 1: the stampede, the nightclub shooting, j LO, that era of
- 16:08Speaker 1: Sean Combs. But naturally, it all serves as a perfect backdrop,
- 16:14Speaker 1: a perfect origin story, a perfect part one for the
- 16:18Speaker 1: story the recent story of Shawn Combs on Cassie Ventura
- 16:23Speaker 1: and the federal indictment that he is facing right now.
- 16:26Speaker 1: That is going to be the new episode on Sean
- 16:30Speaker 1: Diddy Combs that is coming your way in a couple weeks,
- 16:32Speaker 1: and I can't wait for you guys to hear at
- 16:34Speaker 1: six one seven nine oh six six six three eight.
- 16:37Speaker 1: That's how you get in touch with me. One of
- 16:38Speaker 1: the ways. You can leave me a voicemail there, you
- 16:40Speaker 1: can send me a text. You can also hit me
- 16:43Speaker 1: up on the socials at Disgrace lamp Pod. You guys
- 16:45Speaker 1: know this, and you can email me Disgray Lampod at
- 16:49Speaker 1: gmail dot com. All Right, we just released an episode
- 16:51Speaker 1: on Chris Farley, and normally I would have spent a
- 16:54Speaker 1: considerable amount of time in the first part of this episode,
- 16:58Speaker 1: the bonus episode, talking about our previous full episode, as
- 17:02Speaker 1: I usually do, but I wanted to give you guys
- 17:03Speaker 1: more time this week. It's the end of the year,
- 17:06Speaker 1: it's Christmas. I wanted this to be a little bit
- 17:08Speaker 1: more communal.
- 17:09Speaker 3: You know.
- 17:09Speaker 1: We didn't do a big Christmas party or anything like that.
- 17:12Speaker 1: We had some folks jump on a zoom. We had
- 17:14Speaker 1: an improp to disco Christmas party with our book club members,
- 17:19Speaker 1: but yeah, no big bash. So I wanted to include
- 17:21Speaker 1: more of you guys in this bonus episode, so Chris
- 17:24Speaker 1: Farley unfortunately get a little bit of the acts. However,
- 17:28Speaker 1: six to one OH chimes in on fave SNL characters
- 17:33Speaker 1: question of the week. Favorite SNL player gotta be Phil Hartman,
- 17:37Speaker 1: hands down, so hard to play straight in hilarity and
- 17:39Speaker 1: maintain a straight face. So great And if there's any doubt,
- 17:42Speaker 1: see Unfrozen gay Man Lawyer in Cooking with the anal
- 17:46Speaker 1: retentive Chef Gone too Soon, Happy Everything, Marry Everything, rock
- 17:50Speaker 1: a rolla from Jonathan in the six to one OHO.
- 17:52Speaker 1: I agree on Phil Hartman and that era. To me,
- 17:54Speaker 1: that sort of era of Phil Hartman and Dennis Miller
- 18:00Speaker 1: and Dana Carvey, Mike Myers transitioning into the Adam Sandler,
- 18:05Speaker 1: Chris Farley, David Spade era just peak peak peak SNL
- 18:11Speaker 1: in my mind nine one seven text in Hey Jake,
- 18:14Speaker 1: I live in New York, but I work in Little Falls,
- 18:17Speaker 1: New Jersey, and my coworkers have been talking about these
- 18:20Speaker 1: drones for weeks. I finally saw some driving home this week.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Not sure I can help figure this out, but I
- 18:25Speaker 1: can tell you what I saw. They're not small backyard drones.
- 18:29Speaker 1: They flew right above the tree line, too low to
- 18:31Speaker 1: be a plane, and maybe I saw the drones that
- 18:33Speaker 1: hunt other drones. I've been scouring the internet trying to
- 18:36Speaker 1: find out myself what I saw. Had what looked like
- 18:39Speaker 1: two white lights, a blue light and a blinking red
- 18:41Speaker 1: light that reminded me of a recording light or maybe
- 18:44Speaker 1: the light on a remote. Finally seeing them gives me
- 18:46Speaker 1: more questions. But hope this is at least interesting to you.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Of course it's interesting. Nine one seven is fascinating. I
- 18:52Speaker 1: can't stop thinking of this. It's insanity and I'm not
- 18:56Speaker 1: gonna lie down here in our neck of the woods.
- 19:00Speaker 1: We saw something very anomalous the other night, and you
- 19:03Speaker 1: know the absurdity of UAPs and UFOs I believe is intentional.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I have a whole, whole, deep, deep take on this
- 19:14Speaker 1: that I'm not going to bore you with. But my wife,
- 19:16Speaker 1: my kids, and I. My wife is extremely skeptical of
- 19:19Speaker 1: this type of stuff. We saw something last week. It
- 19:23Speaker 1: was not a plane, and it was not a backyard drone,
- 19:27Speaker 1: and the flight pattern was not a flight pattern. It
- 19:30Speaker 1: flew in basically a square over our house, our neighborhood.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Actually it was wider than just our house, and unfortunately
- 19:40Speaker 1: it was cloudy that night and we couldn't really get
- 19:44Speaker 1: eyes on it, and it freaked me out, freaked me out,
- 19:49Speaker 1: pretty hardcore, freaked both of us up. But it was low.
- 19:53Speaker 1: It's too low for a plane. It sounded at first,
- 19:56Speaker 1: I thought it sounded like a plane. That was my take.
- 19:59Speaker 1: I was like, that's a plane, but it wasn't a
- 20:01Speaker 1: propeller plane. And then the next night I saw a
- 20:04Speaker 1: low propeller plane and I heard it and it was
- 20:07Speaker 1: nothing like what we saw the night before. Now, I'm
- 20:09Speaker 1: not telling you that I saw one of these drones.
- 20:11Speaker 1: I'm just telling you that I saw some weird shit.
- 20:13Speaker 1: And the lighting pattern that you've described here nine one
- 20:16Speaker 1: seven was the exact lighting pattern that we saw. What
- 20:19Speaker 1: we saw looked looked exactly like what we're seeing on
- 20:22Speaker 1: the news on TikTok. But again, I'm not saying it
- 20:24Speaker 1: was a drone. I'm not saying it was a UFO.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I'm not saying it was UAP. All I'm saying is
- 20:29Speaker 1: that it was anomalous and I cannot explain what it was,
- 20:32Speaker 1: and neither came my wife. It was weird. There's weird
- 20:35Speaker 1: shit happening up there. Three zero two right say, I'm
- 20:38Speaker 1: not here in anything to let hear from Tom DeLong.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Tom has spoken on this and it's pretty fascinating. This
- 20:46Speaker 1: is a post from his Instagram from last week, from
- 20:49Speaker 1: December fourteenth, so a little over a week ago. It
- 20:53Speaker 1: says the drones that are being discussed can hover for
- 20:57Speaker 1: six hours and then disappear once they are spotted. This
- 21:01Speaker 1: is why it's been hard to get facts from any
- 21:03Speaker 1: US agencies. Some of them can even move into the
- 21:05Speaker 1: ocean and then back up into the air, which is
- 21:07Speaker 1: called trans medium travel, a very hard thing to do.
- 21:11Speaker 1: If you look at this document above, and there's a
- 21:14Speaker 1: it's Instagram, so there's an image of this document. It's
- 21:16Speaker 1: not redacted. In fact, it has and has graphics indicating
- 21:21Speaker 1: where to look. If you look at this document above,
- 21:22Speaker 1: it seems like it's a repeat of exactly what happened
- 21:25Speaker 1: in the sixties, it being what we're seeing now in
- 21:26Speaker 1: New Jersey. There's a good chance that these things could
- 21:29Speaker 1: potentially be mimicking other aircraft. And this even happened more
- 21:33Speaker 1: recently in situations at Skinwalker Ranch years ago, and it
- 21:37Speaker 1: was being studied by the US government under Baas and
- 21:40Speaker 1: aatip and again also decades ago in the sixties. It's
- 21:44Speaker 1: all something to consider. And although we don't have all
- 21:47Speaker 1: the facts yet, we do know that UFOs play with mimicry,
- 21:51Speaker 1: and that has been known for quite some time. Why
- 21:54Speaker 1: to get us to notice them without a major freak out?
- 21:57Speaker 1: Who knows? But well, we are noticing them nonetheless. And
- 22:01Speaker 1: he's right. I didn't mean that, but Tom was right.
- 22:04Speaker 1: He's right here, we are noticing them. We are noticing something.
- 22:07Speaker 1: I don't know if it's them, but we're noticing something.
- 22:11Speaker 1: And something that I read the other day about this
- 22:14Speaker 1: was very, very interesting and you can verify this on
- 22:17Speaker 1: the internet if you feel like it. The truth is
- 22:21Speaker 1: out there, as they say, So these drones in New Jersey.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I'm not going to go deep on this, I promise,
- 22:27Speaker 1: but I'm just going to indulge my inner obsession here
- 22:30Speaker 1: for a second. These drones in New Jersey. Turns out,
- 22:33Speaker 1: not last year, but the year before was the first
- 22:36Speaker 1: time they appeared in a way that they are peering
- 22:40Speaker 1: now very similar drone like unidentified flying objects in the
- 22:44Speaker 1: air three years ago, not last year, the year before.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Right over Langley, Cia. Okay, and they didn't know what
- 22:52Speaker 1: they were. Then again last year, the same thing over Langley, Cia.
- 22:57Speaker 1: And I'm blowing the point here, the main point. It
- 22:59Speaker 1: was exact same time of year that they appeared in
- 23:01Speaker 1: both instances. So this year Langley was ready for them,
- 23:06Speaker 1: but they didn't appear over Langley. They appeared in New
- 23:10Speaker 1: Jersey and with more intensity and more of them, more
- 23:14Speaker 1: volume apparently. So like I said, you can look that
- 23:17Speaker 1: up and you can find that information there, and I
- 23:20Speaker 1: would tell you to look into this guy named Ryan
- 23:23Speaker 1: Graves who's a former naval pilot and he has some
- 23:27Speaker 1: incredible things to say about the subject. Okay, let's get
- 23:30Speaker 1: off the UFO here for a second. Go to the
- 23:32Speaker 1: four one two who says, just listen to the bonus
- 23:34Speaker 1: episode last week wondering how the guy backpacking in Cambodi
- 23:38Speaker 1: I can mention run DMC and not Dead Kennedy's holiday
- 23:41Speaker 1: in Cambodia. Keep up the good work, love your stuff. Well,
- 23:44Speaker 1: he was talking about a Christmas song man, and maybe
- 23:47Speaker 1: he's not a Dead Kennedy fan. Are the Dead Kennedy's
- 23:50Speaker 1: Is that hiking music? I don't know, but I take
- 23:52Speaker 1: your point. Cambodia being the main thing here, and we're
- 23:56Speaker 1: going to close out this subject on Christmas songs right here.
- 23:58Speaker 1: We're gonna put it to bed. Hey Jake, Happy Holidays
- 24:01Speaker 1: is from the five three. I just learned a new
- 24:04Speaker 1: to me Christmas song yesterday, and it's definitely jumped up
- 24:07Speaker 1: as a favorite. Since it's new to me, I could
- 24:09Speaker 1: definitely say it's my card favorite Christmas song. So I
- 24:12Speaker 1: got real excited when you extended the request so that
- 24:14Speaker 1: I could text in and say Spinal taps Christmas with
- 24:18Speaker 1: the Devil Whales. Before I heard the song, I would
- 24:22Speaker 1: have said the band's Christmas must be tonight. So a
- 24:24Speaker 1: couple things here. I didn't know anything about either of
- 24:26Speaker 1: these songs, so thank you. This is amazing. I appreciate this.
- 24:30Speaker 1: I'm adding them to my Christmas mix, which I know
- 24:34Speaker 1: it's late, but if you want to check it out,
- 24:36Speaker 1: go to my Instagram. You'll see you'll find a link
- 24:38Speaker 1: somewhere for my Christmas mix. Hey Jake, it's Jack. This
- 24:42Speaker 1: is Jack from the seven oh seven, saying the best
- 24:44Speaker 1: Christmas music, as with most music, comes from an emotional
- 24:47Speaker 1: connection of heartbreak and pain and then the catharsist that follows.
- 24:52Speaker 1: It's why River By Joni Mitchell or Last Christmas by
- 24:55Speaker 1: Wham can still be a gut punch after all these years,
- 24:59Speaker 1: and you keep going come back to it. But the
- 25:01Speaker 1: man with the bag makes you want to gouge your earballs.
- 25:07Speaker 1: The best example of this is Christmas Card from a
- 25:09Speaker 1: Hooker in Minneapolis by Tom Waite's Cheers Man, Happy Holidays.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Tom Waits one is great, the Wham one is great,
- 25:16Speaker 1: and I don't know the Joni Mitchell one, but I'm
- 25:17Speaker 1: going to check it out. And uh, seven oh seven.
- 25:20Speaker 1: This is perfect because next week we're talking about sad
- 25:22Speaker 1: songs and seven oh seven I want to hear. I
- 25:24Speaker 1: want to hear from you on the artist that guts
- 25:27Speaker 1: you emotionally. Okay, I want to hear from all you guys,
- 25:30Speaker 1: but seven oh seven, I specifically want to hear from
- 25:32Speaker 1: you on this. Is it Tom Waits, Is it Hank Williams?
- 25:35Speaker 1: Who is it? Speaking the Last Christmas by Wham? This
- 25:39Speaker 1: is kind of messed up and I have like this.
- 25:43Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys who are who are
- 25:45Speaker 1: relatively gen X my age. You know, the nineties were
- 25:50Speaker 1: a weird, a weird year for us for media because
- 25:54Speaker 1: on the one hand, everything we had loved before Nirvana.
- 26:00Speaker 1: The whole culture of alternative culture became popular, and it
- 26:03Speaker 1: became huge, and it became mainstream, and there was a
- 26:06Speaker 1: reaction to that where you instantly just don't want to
- 26:09Speaker 1: have anything to do with it anymore because it's no
- 26:12Speaker 1: longer your secret. Somebody else has co opted it. And
- 26:16Speaker 1: I find that I have huge black holes of culture
- 26:21Speaker 1: in the nineties because I must have just checked out completely.
- 26:25Speaker 1: And I know Last Christmas by Wham is an eighties song, However,
- 26:29Speaker 1: it was getting played in the nineties and it was
- 26:32Speaker 1: a hit in the eighties, And I realized this week
- 26:36Speaker 1: that the first version I heard of that song was
- 26:38Speaker 1: the Jimmy Eat World version, which is kind of a
- 26:41Speaker 1: different arrangement. They leave out like an entire verse, I think,
- 26:46Speaker 1: which is just crazy that I completely missed that George
- 26:50Speaker 1: Michael thing. I just completely missed it the Wham song
- 26:54Speaker 1: when it was happening. Totally missed it, like the until
- 26:58Speaker 1: like two thousand and six ish in that era, I
- 27:01Speaker 1: guess wild Anyways, love that song. It's my son has learned.
- 27:07Speaker 1: My oldest son is learning bass and we were rocking
- 27:10Speaker 1: on it last night as a family. He was playing
- 27:11Speaker 1: bass I was playing guitar, my youngest was singing, and
- 27:14Speaker 1: my wife even at the tambourino. We were getting to
- 27:17Speaker 1: the Christmas spirit. Guys, come on seven seven five, text
- 27:21Speaker 1: it my dog. You hear that the poor poor Amazon
- 27:27Speaker 1: workers they come to the door, they're working their asses off,
- 27:31Speaker 1: they're overtired, and they get greeted with attitude by Dusty Dusty,
- 27:36Speaker 1: Dusty Dusty. I can hear it, growl, and I hope
- 27:38Speaker 1: you can. Okay the seven seven five text in. I
- 27:41Speaker 1: knew the story of Johnny Ayace, but never connected the
- 27:43Speaker 1: dots till hearing the Disgraceland episode seven seven five. Appreciate you.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Glad you dug that episode. If you guys haven't heard
- 27:52Speaker 1: the Elvis Presley, Johnny Yce disgracing that episode from a
- 27:55Speaker 1: couple weeks ago, it's my new favorite Christmas episode. I
- 27:57Speaker 1: don't know what you're waiting for. Go check that out.
- 28:00Speaker 1: And while we're waiting for you to listen to it,
- 28:02Speaker 1: we're gonna keep the party going throughout the holiday season.
- 28:05Speaker 1: You can call me, you can text me six one
- 28:07Speaker 1: seven nine and six six six three eight, leave me
- 28:08Speaker 1: a voicemail. You can hit me up at Disgrace Ampod
- 28:12Speaker 1: on Instagram, Facebook, or x or you can email me
- 28:14Speaker 1: Disgrace Lampod at gmail dot com. Nicholas Ryan Emmanuel on
- 28:21Speaker 1: Facebook rights, Hey, I absolutely love your podcast. If you
- 28:23Speaker 1: get time, you should do one on depeche Mode and
- 28:26Speaker 1: include devotional tour, the most debauched tour in rock history.
- 28:29Speaker 1: You're the best, Nicholas, Get in touch where you get
- 28:32Speaker 1: your depeche Mode information from? Okay, what's the book. There's
- 28:37Speaker 1: a bunch of books, I'm sure, but what is the
- 28:39Speaker 1: depeche Mode book I should read to? Really kind of
- 28:42Speaker 1: you know, get the vibes. Let me know, particularly on
- 28:45Speaker 1: the debauchery. Michael Lobella on Facebook. Great shows, keep it
- 28:48Speaker 1: the good work, love listening to the stories. And now
- 28:50Speaker 1: the extra stuff. Michael Lobella on Facebook. You're in for it, man,
- 28:54Speaker 1: because we're going to be bringing some extra stuff to
- 28:56Speaker 1: Facebook in twenty twenty five. Teresa Burden writes in Elvis'
- 29:01Speaker 1: Six question Marks, I thought Elvis was a topic you
- 29:03Speaker 1: were not going to touch until the end. Please tell
- 29:06Speaker 1: me this isn't a death noll for Disgraceland. Teresa, No,
- 29:09Speaker 1: it is not. Yes, I did say that, but this
- 29:12Speaker 1: is not an Elvis episode completely. It's an Elvis and
- 29:15Speaker 1: Johnny Ace episode. It is more of a Johnny Ace episode,
- 29:18Speaker 1: if we're being honest. It covers one particular moment in
- 29:21Speaker 1: Elvis's life, actually two. But yeah, I did say that
- 29:25Speaker 1: when you hear the Elvis Presley episode in your Disgraceland feed,
- 29:28Speaker 1: it will mean that I have left the building that
- 29:31Speaker 1: that is the last episode of Disgraceland. However, that's not
- 29:35Speaker 1: the case here. Like I said, it's an Elvis and
- 29:38Speaker 1: Johnny Ace episode, So what I said still holds true,
- 29:41Speaker 1: still holds true. I know, I know I'm flubbing it here,
- 29:45Speaker 1: but I really wanted to get Elvis into this story
- 29:47Speaker 1: because it really framed it up nicely for me, and
- 29:50Speaker 1: it made it a lot more interesting. But Teresa, have
- 29:52Speaker 1: no fear. Disgraceland is going nowhere over on Instagram at
- 29:57Speaker 1: Leo x Fury Rights in just Finish your Last after Party.
- 30:01Speaker 1: And my all time favorite rock and roll story is
- 30:04Speaker 1: the one where Rick James saves Jim Morrison's life or
- 30:07Speaker 1: a wild story that is, thinking that if it wasn't
- 30:09Speaker 1: for him, I wouldn't have my beloved doors making so
- 30:11Speaker 1: much awesome music. You know, you're probably right at unlearned
- 30:16Speaker 1: underscore hand, bas Heel writes on Instagram, one of my
- 30:21Speaker 1: favorite Christmas movies just unsolicited Christmas movie talk. I love this.
- 30:25Speaker 1: I love it. We didn't talk at all about Christmas
- 30:27Speaker 1: movies this year, and we should have and I know
- 30:30Speaker 1: Christmas to send it, but I don't care. I still
- 30:32Speaker 1: have a bunch I need to watch and I love
- 30:35Speaker 1: what bas Heel here is getting at. One of my
- 30:38Speaker 1: favorite Christmas movies, Trading Places. Also better than Late Than Ever,
- 30:42Speaker 1: but best concert film, Blues Brothers. Trading places top three
- 30:47Speaker 1: Christmas movie for me, maybe top two. Yeah, I'm trying
- 30:50Speaker 1: to think of one that I like better. I want
- 30:53Speaker 1: to say Goodfellas, but I don't want all the heat
- 30:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna take for that goodfellow This is a Christmas movie.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I don't care. It's as much of a Christmas movie
- 31:02Speaker 1: as Diehard is. Diehard's definitely a Christmas movie. I never
- 31:05Speaker 1: got that argument didn't make any sense. All right, If
- 31:07Speaker 1: you guys are following me on Instagram, we saw last
- 31:10Speaker 1: week I posted this incredible clip that I either forgot
- 31:12Speaker 1: about or it was not part of the original film
- 31:15Speaker 1: Easy Rider. I had no recollection of this. It's a
- 31:19Speaker 1: scene where Jack Nicholson is sitting around the fire with
- 31:21Speaker 1: Dennis Hopper and they're talking about aliens and if you
- 31:24Speaker 1: just suspend your disbelief and you imagine this happening like
- 31:28Speaker 1: in the last ten days, it is fascinating to hear.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Fascinating in my Jersey Drone hysteria. Last week I really
- 31:36Speaker 1: fell back in touch with John Coltrane's A Love Supreme album.
- 31:42Speaker 1: There's something about that record, the way it starts, in
- 31:46Speaker 1: particular to me, it completely just connects the insanity of
- 31:52Speaker 1: the twenty twenty four moment that we are ending right now,
- 31:57Speaker 1: the UAPs, the drones, the madness of the last year,
- 32:02Speaker 1: and the Christmas spirit. A Love Supreme is John Coltrane's
- 32:07Speaker 1: most spiritual album, at least that I know of, and
- 32:12Speaker 1: I don't know. Listening to it last week, it just
- 32:13Speaker 1: kind of tied the whole year together and the moment
- 32:15Speaker 1: for me. All Right, I'll be back in a flash
- 32:18Speaker 1: with your reviews and your emails. All right, as we
- 32:34Speaker 1: are back. You know, the drill reviews help with discovery.

- 32:41Speaker 1: here on the after party. You guys, get in touch
- 32:43Speaker 1: with me. We hook you up with some free merch.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Not all of you, A couple of you, the ones
- 32:48Speaker 1: we read the reviews from. We pick a couple every week.
- 32:51Speaker 1: This one comes from the Big Gabber. I listen while
- 32:56Speaker 1: I work, and I often find myself audibly gasping. The
- 33:00Speaker 1: latest hag episode gave me legit chills. And this person,
- 33:03Speaker 1: this reviewer, this listener is obviously talking about the Merle
- 33:06Speaker 1: Haggard episode of Disgraceland that's in your feed right now.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Top of your feed. You can check that out. Merle's
- 33:12Speaker 1: early life of crime, his conversion to the not so
- 33:16Speaker 1: fight inside of life via a Johnny Cash show at
- 33:20Speaker 1: San Quentin. Check that out. That was an Apple podcast review.
- 33:23Speaker 1: This one comes from Spotify. Delkan says, another excellent afterparty.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Thanks man, really digging. Appreciate all the research you put
- 33:29Speaker 1: into your podcasts. Feels like a lot of them are
- 33:32Speaker 1: just someone reading Wikipedia some Yahoo with the podcast. Keep
- 33:35Speaker 1: up the good work and know we love you out here.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Thank you so much, Delakan, appreciate you, Love you back.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Hope you're having a good holiday. Hope you had a
- 33:42Speaker 1: good Christmas. Hope you're set for a good new year.

- 34:56Speaker 1: tell you something, I'm very much looking forward to twenty
- 35:00Speaker 1: twenty five and all that we are going to do
- 35:02Speaker 1: together here in Disgraceland, from the preservation of the real
- 35:07Speaker 1: rock and roll spirit to the continuation of these batshit
- 35:10Speaker 1: crazy stories about rock stars in the dark side of entertainment.
- 35:15Speaker 1: We have so much on tap for you in twenty
- 35:17Speaker 1: twenty five, New Sean Combs, as I mentioned, Beastie Boys,
