- 2:15I mean, is it really out of the question at this point.
- 2:19We'll talk to Stevid about that a little bit later on, but I do
- 2:21want to welcome to the show West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner. Good
- 2:24morning, sir, welcome back to the show. Hey, good morning,
- 2:27Dave. Great to be with Thank you for being here. Now, we
- 2:29normally if I have you on, talk about something related to the elections,
- 2:31but today I wanted to bring you in to talk about the business division of
- 2:36the office, which, as listeners have heard both you and I say over
- 2:38the years, the Business Office really is the biggest part of the secretary of
- 2:43State's office, the most employees. Anyway, if you own a business in
- 2:46West Virginia, June is the month the for companies and businesses annual reports.
- 2:52First of all, what is an annual report and why do they have to
- 2:54be filed? They need to be filed for transparency for the public's sake.
- 2:59That is one place that the legislature said, we want you to be able
- 3:02to go to and know whether a business is in compliance in the state of
- 3:06West Virginia. And that is my office, the Secretary of State's office,
- 3:07and so, as you said, it is the largest part of my office.
- 3:12About half of our employees are employed with regards to the Business and Licensing
- 3:15Division. And so what that report is is it's a compilation of the main
- 3:21things you need to know if you want to deal with a company. So
- 3:23where it's located at mailing address, who the officers are, who is responsible
- 3:29for safe service a process, let's say there's a lawsuit that needs to take
- 3:31place, those sorts of things, And so the importance for the company is
- 3:36they want to be in compliance so that let's say that they're ready to close
- 3:39a real estate deal or get a bank load and that sort of thing,
- 3:43the opposing party is going to want to know, is this a legitimate business,
- 3:46are they biding by state law and so forth? And you don't want
- 3:49that red flag on your record of being out of compliance. And so once
- 3:53a year, by state code, each company has to register with the or
- 3:57update their information and it's so simple. We've made it so simple to get
- 4:01online. You can do this in five minutes, a matter of a couple
- 4:03of clicks on your computer. And by the way, about ninety percent of
- 4:06the ninety eight percent of the companies do it online. And so we've made
- 4:12it very simple. And if you haven't done any changes from the previously year,
- 4:15you simply click no changes and it is that simple. Twenty five dollars
- 4:19and you're done for the year. And that number as far as businesses to
- 4:23do it online, has gone up greatly since since you took office, because
- 4:28when I know, when I was working there and when I started in twenty
- 4:30seventeen, that number wasn't quite that high. It was still pretty good,
- 4:34but not that high, sir, No, it was we've really emphasized getting
- 4:39online, getting away from paper. We used to send up postcards to notify
- 4:43the companies that the annual reporters do and they can file that report anywhere between
- 4:46one January and June thirtieth. But now here we are in the last week.
- 4:50If somebody's waited to the last minute, this is the last minute.
- 4:53It's now time to do it today or tomorrow. Let's get it done.
- 4:57You have until Sunday at eleven fifty nine night you can mail it in.
- 5:01Only two percent of the people still do it by paper, and that's a
- 5:05matter of downloading and mailing it. It's like an absentee ballot. It has
- 5:09to be postmarked by June thirty or here's the bad side. If you miss
- 5:13that June thirtieth deadline, if it rolls over to Monday of next week,
- 5:15then we have to assess a fifty dollars late fee, and we don't want
- 5:18to have to do that. We keep track of about one hundred and fifty
- 5:21thousand businesses and charities, and the good thing is that's up significantly from when
- 5:26I took office. So the state is growing with regards to the number of
- 5:29businesses, nonprofits, charities and so on. So those numbers are growing.
- 5:33And right now we are about nine percent better as far as the response rate
- 5:39this year than we were in the past. But there's still quite a few
- 5:42yet to do here in these last couple of days. Because that's because you're
- 5:45dealing with humans not in your office, I mean public, and that's what
- 5:46that's what people have a tendency to do. They tend to kind of want
- 5:49to put things off. And I can tell you because in addition to this,
- 5:53I also own a business and for and a half for ten years,
- 5:57and I started probably around on Christmas time getting emails from the office. It's
- 6:02usually around that time, generally speaking, first of the year, you'll get
- 6:05an email that says a reminder, and you get one every so often.
- 6:11And I'm gonna be honest, because I'm a business owner, that just me
- 6:15you're looking at the business right here. I didn't do mine until about two
- 6:17or three weeks ago. But you just click on the link is actually in
- 6:21the email. And especially again, if you have no changes in your business,
- 6:27there's a box that says no changes and you just kind of take from
- 6:31it. Could not be any simpler. That's what we want to do is
- 6:34make it as easy as possible, and also one emphasize to people there's no
- 6:39need for a third party. There's no reason to bring in somebody else.
- 6:42A lot of times you'll get in the mail a letter and it looks very
- 6:45official like it's government, and it's really not. If it doesn't say West
- 6:47Virginia Secretary State, it's not coming from it's coming from a third party.
- 6:50Vendor, and what happens is these people will charge one hundred dollars to file
- 6:55your fee for you. It's been as much as three hundred and seventy five
- 6:58dollars we've seen. And I know this is a problem that's been going on
- 7:00for some time and there's really not a whole lot that the state can do
- 7:03about it. Yeah. I don't want to call it a scam, but
- 7:05it is taking advantage of people that are not as close as you can get.
- 7:10I make the analogy it's like paying somebody to fill up your gas tank.
- 7:13You're fully capable of going out there, opening up your gas tank and
- 7:15filling it up. Why I pay somebody one hundred dollars to fill up your
- 7:17gas tank. You can do this yourself. Like you said, it's so
- 7:20simple to get online WVSS dot gov. And as you mentioned, we've actually
- 7:26sent out a series of six emails of course of the time from first to
- 7:30January to remind people once you file. Then we stopped sending the emails,
- 7:35but in your case, if you didn't, if you wait until just a
- 7:38couple of weeks ago, you've probably got four or five different emails from us
- 7:41reminding you to register or renew your business license. I'm not the most tech
- 7:46techy guy in the world, but I'll tell you I did the entire thing
- 7:48at about maybe two minutes, if even that, And that was just me
- 7:53doing it. So it's not difficult at all, especially if there are no
- 7:57changes. You just click no changes and just keep going. Yeah. So
- 8:00if you're a business owner or if you're working for a business and you can
- 8:03talk to the owner, say remind them if you done your anal renewal.
- 8:07If you haven't today and tomorrow, that's the time to do. And if
- 8:09people all wait until little Sunday evening to do it, there's all they always
- 8:13that possibility of a systems crash or some other problem. Let's not do just
- 8:16let's good and do the renewal right now. Why we're talking about it while
- 8:20you're thinking about it. The Dave Allen Show in five Ady Live is presented
- 8:22apart by General Hardware of Winfield and Milton General Number of Winfield for all projects
- 8:26big and small shop locally General Hardware WV dot com. We had a text
- 8:31of the show someone said, how does one close a business as a Secretary
- 8:33of State's office? Best thing you can I mean, I'll let you tay.
- 8:35It's very simple to do that. What it's very simple call let us
- 8:39know, go to the one stop that we have, get online, just
- 8:43let us know. It's a matter of letting us know that you're closing the
- 8:46business. See, if you don't do this renewal, then we put you
- 8:48in an inactive status or not inactive non compliance status for three years, and
- 8:54after that third year then we can drop you from that list. But we
- 8:56don't want to do that. We want to know affirmatively that you've decided to
- 9:00stop your business. In another check, that said, are out of state
- 9:03companies that do business in West Virginia required to file Yes, anybody doing in
- 9:09business in the state of West Virginia. And that's one of the things too.
- 9:11You mentioned scams or things like that. When people come to your to
- 9:16your door and say I want to I want to, I want to I
- 9:18want to trim your weeds, I want to do a roofing job or whatever.
- 9:24I don't want to say. Let's don't go long care because there are
- 9:26people that just you know, most people's grass. But let's say a bigger
- 9:28company. If you want to know if this business is incompliant it's really simple.
- 9:31You've got a database there. The classic one, like you said,
- 9:35is a roofing or the repaving your driveway, those sort of things, and
- 9:39they want to take money upfront to say we're going to go get spots.
- 9:41They take the money upfront, then you never hear from again. So what
- 9:45else suggests people do in those situations is take the name and address that sort
- 9:48of thing, get online and get on the West Virginia Secretary of State's website
- 9:52and see whether that firm is in compliance, where they're located, Know the
- 9:56officers that sort of thing. And how many businesses again, we talk talking
- 10:00about it one hundred and forty nine, seven hundred and forty, but it's
- 10:03one hundred and fifty thousand basically businesses we keep track of and those numbers are
- 10:07going up. They in West Virginia. That's a good thing. Yes,
- 10:09it is. You mentioned the business one stop office. Now, over the
- 10:13last year or two years, the office has moved. It was on Washington
- 10:16Street next to Tricky fishients move. Tell us where the new location is.
- 10:20It's down there right where the Elk River flows into the Canal's right there on
- 10:24the boulevard. Pulling on that entrance. There's a fitness center there and we're
- 10:28on the second floor above the fitness center. And there are still people that
- 10:33do like to come into the office, you know, for that not just
- 10:35the anial reports, but but for other things too they do, and that's
- 10:37where we have a number of people there, a number of employees. We've
- 10:41got the tax office there with us as well. That's why we call it
- 10:45the Ones Office, you know, and take care of your business registration,
- 10:48get questions answered. There's a kiosk there with regards to the Small Business Administration.
- 10:52So if you want to that in person experience, that's what we suggest
- 10:56you do. What else you had going on in the office these days,
- 11:00We've got a lot of things going on, some new personnel. We're working
- 11:03with the clerks. Just was at the Clerks conference yesterday in Morgantown. So
- 11:07it's an ongoing thing. With regards to election training, seeing what happened with
- 11:11the primary getting ready for the general office or the general election, there's always
- 11:16that clerk training, pollworker training, getting poll workers, that sort of thing.
- 11:20We're actually taking on some pretty decent things. We have an amicus brief
- 11:26right now to the US Supreme Court. We have a new General Counsel,
- 11:30Dave Cook is doing a wonderful job, wrote a wonderful brief for the US
- 11:33Supreme Court. Eight other states have joined in with us, and what that
- 11:37is is pushing back against the Biden administration trying to federalize the elections, trying
- 11:41to take over making all federal agencies about six hundred federal agencies as voter registration
- 11:48centers. And our position is this is a state responsibility. That's what the
- 11:50US Constitution says. So we're pushing back in that regard in the arena with
- 11:56Facebook, Google, Twitter, the social media, we're trying to make them
- 12:00fair in the elections. We don't want to have them weighing in on one
- 12:03side versus the other. So we're taking on some suboenas and getting documents from
- 12:09them to make sure that they are complying with state finance laws. So there's
- 12:13some behind the scene things that are going on, but pretty significant. It's
- 12:16once again showing where West Virginia is a leader nationwide in this election integrity and
- 12:22security arena. And then I'm also getting ready for the National Association of Secretaries
- 12:26of State meeting that's coming up this next month and We've been asked to talk
- 12:31about our Businesses against Trafficking program that we initiated here last year, a very
- 12:35successful program. If you've been out on the interstate and stopped at a restop,
- 12:39you may have seen some of the posters. We're trying to reduce human
- 12:43trafficking. And you may not think it occurs here in West Virginia, but
- 12:46I can cite several cases where we have had trafficking take place here in West
- 12:50Virginia, and we want to make people aware of it and what to do
- 12:52if you recognize a situation that doesn't feel right to you, how you report
- 12:56it wester to do? Secretary of State Mike Wonder. It's always a pleasure
- 12:58again, and if you're a business owner, get those reports in. They
- 13:03are required by state code and they have to be in by eleven fifty nine

- 17:26Stephen Allen Adams from Ogden Newspapers. This here, Stephen, good morning,
- 17:30Welcome to the show. Good morning, Dave, thanks for having me on.
- 17:33Thank you for being here. Let's are you feeling a little bit better?
- 17:36Saw where you were? You're feel a little under the weather, you
- 17:38know it? Okay, I feel just fine. I sometimes have that occasionally.
- 17:44So took a little day, worked from home. Still monitored everything,
- 17:47including the Governor's briefing yesterday, so it was still a work day for me.
- 17:51I just got to do it on the on the back porch with a
- 17:52dog. So well, you know, there's worse things. I guess let's
- 17:56start with the with the governor and his latest financial news. And there's a
- 18:00bunch of it that just came out of the last couple of days. Well,
- 18:03yeah, I mean, which thing do you want to start with.
- 18:06Let's start with the announcedent Carter Bank yesterday. Yeah, that's a big one
- 18:10because that was three hundred million dollars that the governor had personally guaranteed and loans
- 18:15from Carter Bank. He had a long standing relationship with this bank, which
- 18:18is Virginia based. He knew the owner. But when the owner died,
- 18:22while the board of directors of that bank wanted to start collecting on the money
- 18:26that it was over to them, because that's a lot of money for a
- 18:29small regional bank. So they've been having a gut back and forth with justices
- 18:33companies for a number of years trying to collect. They settled something I think
- 18:38around this time last year, but or two years ago. But for last
- 18:44year they started to try collect again. They weren't getting the money they thought
- 18:47they were due. They went back and forth in court, federal court.
- 18:49At one point they were even trying to get some of the Governor's properties and
- 18:52sell them, such as the Greenbrier Sporting Club. The Greenbrier might have even
- 18:56been in their sites as well. But apparently yesterday a global what they called
- 19:03a global settlement was announced between Carter Bank and Justices companies. We don't know
- 19:07the specifics because they're behind the confidentiality agreement, but apparently it will allow the
- 19:12Justices companies to continue paying on those loans without having Carter Bank tried to collect
- 19:18on all of them. So it makes both sides happy. So all the
- 19:22federal and county lawsuits are being dropped and now they're back to being friends again.
- 19:29So this is just one though of a I mean, how many times
- 19:33have we said governor and financial problems in the last you know, six seven
- 19:38eight years he's been in office, and quite frankly even before that, Oh
- 19:42for sure. I mean the biggest one out there is the one he currently
- 19:47owns, the Green Sivil Bank credit suite. That's over eight hundred million dollars
- 19:52that he owes. Now, of course Justice doesn't run his day to day
- 19:56operations because he's governor. His children do, his adult children. But as
- 20:00governor, he has guaranteed these loans, which is why. And he doesn't
- 20:04have any of these companies for the most part under blind trusts, which would
- 20:08kind of shield him to some extent where I don't even know we'd ask him
- 20:11about any of this stuff if it was in a blind trust, because he
- 20:15wouldn't really have any direct involvement with it. But in this case, he
- 20:18does have some direct involvement and skin in the game. So it's going to
- 20:22keep coming up. And some extent this place in the governor's ability to manage
- 20:25his businesses over his lifetime. To some extent, there is pressure from some
- 20:30of these companies that I think. I think they can bring this pressure to
- 20:33bear on the governor, considering that he's running for Senate and probably doesn't want
- 20:37these headlines out there. So the quicker he can find some settlement with this
- 20:41stuff, which is what he just did with Carter Bank. Quicker, you

- 21:25the whole baby dog art controversy, Oh man, oh man? I I
- 21:32it's it's interesting. I will tell you. I don't think it's about the
- 21:34dog so much. I read everybody loves baby doll. Everyone does love baby
- 21:40dolls. But there's some issues here, not with baby dog, okay,
- 21:44just with any dog that would be in that picture, right and the way
- 21:45it was done. I think it's a process problem. I really think it's
- 21:49a process problem. Look, you can from historical standpoint, Look, English
- 21:55bulldogs came to the America's according to the American Cattle Club, around the late
- 21:59eighteen eighties, so it's plausible the English bulldogs were in West Virginia in the
- 22:04late nineteenth century early twentieth century. So I mean, you could pick any
- 22:08dog. I mean you can make the argument what type of dog did most
- 22:11West Virginians probably have around that time. It's probably a traditional you know,
- 22:15West Virginia brown That's what I've said yesterday. Okay, you can argue about
- 22:18this historical part of that, but I think the problem is the process.
- 22:22I mean. Randall Reid Smith at the part of set Cabinet, Secretary of
- 22:26the Department Arts, Culture and History, has been working on this project since
- 22:30twenty ten. The Capitol Building Commission, which is by law required to sign
- 22:34off on any changes inside outside onto Capitol grounds, they voted in twenty ten
- 22:41to allow for the selection of an artist to begin coming up with concepts.
- 22:48Well, they ran out of the money in twenty ten, so they didn't
- 22:49keep trying to do it. But Randal Reid Smith has kind of used that
- 22:53vote in twenty ten as a blank check to go ahead and move forward with
- 22:56it now and never bring it back for the Capitol Building Commission ever since.
- 23:02He started doing this again in twenty twenty one, going with John Canny and
- 23:04company to come up with the artist concept and do the construction and the creation
- 23:10of this. This has never come back before the Capitol Building Commission. And
- 23:12then of course in April we have the artist renderings released to the public.
- 23:18Well, there's no baby dog in that one with Seneca Rocks. There's no
- 23:21animals at all. A small private committee made up of two governor office representatives,
- 23:26two cabinet secretaries, and the state Museum director decided to come up with
- 23:30this concept of making some minor changes, including adding the plildlife, which is
- 23:34fine. But they decided the ad baby dog without apparently consulting anybody on it,
- 23:41including even the governor, because the governor says he was surprised by it
- 23:45and didn't realize that baby dog was believe when he says he was surprised by
- 23:48I do I actually remember I do. I do as well. I believe
- 23:52it. But the problem is your office was directly involved with it. Now
- 23:56you may not have known about it, but I think that's even problematic that
- 23:59you didn't know about it, and that they did this sort of as a
- 24:04you know, surprise, you know, to make the dear leader happy.
- 24:08And I think the process is problematic. Forget about the dog. It's a
- 24:12process problem. I think some people. Well, I say, I'll say
- 24:18it's probably fifty to fifty what I'm getting because again I listened to Hopy,
- 24:19He's talked about this at nauseum. I've gotten texted the show, and it
- 24:23tends to be a thing where people say, well, I mean, with
- 24:27all the problems going on in the world, why are you concerned whether there's
- 24:30a picture of a dog. Well, again, it's a procedural issue.
- 24:34And I can tell you as somebody who, as I've said many times before,
- 24:37worked in state government. You worked in state government. You don't move
- 24:41a desk from one end of the office to the other that you do not
- 24:45have permission from the powers that be at the capitol. I mean, seriously,
- 24:49people think, and I guess that's a good thing. You don't down
- 24:52a trio. No, you can't do anything on the grounds. And literally,
- 24:56if you want to redesign your office, if you want to say,
- 24:59U use the Secretary of State's officers, because I worked there, you work
- 25:03there. If you want to say, okay, we want to move elections
- 25:06from here to here, and we want to move the finance office over here,
- 25:08you have to have permission pretty much to take pictures down, to move
- 25:11pictures of that secretary over there. You've got to have permission to do this.
- 25:15And I guess what Randall reed Smith was doing from what you're talent.
- 25:18I mean you followed this a little more closely than I have. What he
- 25:22was based on this on a vote from twenty twenty twelve, twenty ten,
- 25:26and so that's where I think the thing. Is anything going to come to
- 25:32this or is it just going to go Hobby tends to think it's just going
- 25:33to kind of go away in a day or so. What do you think?
- 25:36Hobby is absolutely right on it. I think it's going to go away,
- 25:37I think, and I think when people say there aren't there more important
- 25:41things, well, of course there are. We're having the channel welfare crisis
- 25:44in this state right now. There's a number of things that are more important
- 25:45than this. What this is is a symptom of problems that I think we
- 25:51have seen throughout and I think Governor Justice on the whole has been a good
- 25:56governor. But there are a number of issues we've seen with the administration with
- 26:00certain departments. You know, we've always lived been dealing with the Department of
- 26:03Human Services and the issues there with CPS. We were just dealing with,
- 26:07you know, a big crisis in vacancies and prisons. I mean, we
- 26:10can point to a number of issues over the years where this is just another
- 26:15symptom of kind of how things run. And no, I don't think anything's
- 26:19going to come of it. I don't think grandall Reed Smith's going to lose
- 26:22his job. In fact, the way he's been treating media, including me
- 26:26over the last few weeks on this and the other stories, he seems pretty
- 26:30comfortable. So I don't think anything's going to change of it. But I
- 26:33do think it is important to point out, especially considering the fact that they
- 26:37unveiled this last Thursday, West Virginia Day, there was no mention as a
- 26:41baby dog being included. So why would you not even mention that? Why
- 26:45not even own it? Because it's there obviously, you know, it was
- 26:48noticed within twenty four hours of it going up. Other people would notice that
- 26:52during the construction phase. Why not own it? Obviously you all thought this
- 26:59might be problematic, which is why he didn't talk about it last week.
- 27:00And the governor has said, and rightfully so, that baby dog has brought
- 27:03a lot of joy, a lot of happiness to people. I mean not
- 27:07I mean, I'm a pet person. I know you you you have a
- 27:11dog Hoppy as a pet owner. We're not anti pet, We're just asking
- 27:15some questions. That's it, and it's important for us to do that.
- 27:19And it's also important for our cabinet officials and government officials to kind of welcome
- 27:26that to some extent, not to be hostile to it. Or of course,
- 27:29why would we not ask questions about that because it's you know, it's
- 27:32out there. Did the governor really say I was busy, didn't see the
- 27:34Burton host rations and briefing. Did I read something that he said something to
- 27:38the effect of that the English ruled the land? And did he say something
- 27:44like that? He said something like that, but only just talking. The
- 27:48way I took it was he was even surprised. He took it as surprise
- 27:52that they would include an English bulldog on there because of that. Okay,
- 27:56I didn't know what I didn't know what context was. But I want to
- 28:00talk about a big event tonight in Huntington. There is a big fundraiser for
- 28:04Huntington mayor and candidate for Governor, Steve Williams being held in the Hotel Frederick
- 28:11Lobby. The main names on the card, if I can harken back to
- 28:15my wrestling days, Senator Joe Manchin now Independent Joe Manchon, former Governor Bob
- 28:19Wise. As far as Bob Wise goes, that's a name you probably haven't
- 28:23heard in a while. But to Senator Manson, and you were the one
- 28:27that I first saw. You broke this story a week or so ago on
- 28:30X to Senator Mansion, does this settle it once and for all? He's
- 28:34not running, Probably not in the minds of some that probably still want him
- 28:38to. But I really kind of think it puts it to bed. I
- 28:42guess we'll see how much they raise. Of course, we're running up against
- 28:45campaign finance deadlines right now for the quarter, so it's one of the big
- 28:52reasons I think they're wanting to push us, and they're pushing it so hard
- 28:53because I think they need to raise a substantial amount of money in this thing
- 28:59to really show other potential donors down the road that Steve Williams is viable,
- 29:04viable, which is why I think they're pulling out the last two Democratic governors
- 29:08Mansion and Wise. Oh yeah, already doesn't live in West Virginia anymore.
- 29:15But I don't like, why does he live in no already? Uh,
- 29:18pretty much is residing on the beach somewhere right now. Oh good for him.
- 29:22Well, because I've talked to uh he. I mean, I've known
- 29:25e Alreay literally my whole life, and I've tried to get him come on
- 29:27the show a couple of times. He's i think, been on hoppy But
- 29:30I'm just he's perfectly happy with where he is. I'm going to give her
- 29:33already Tom in the past, because I've tried to reach out through third parties
- 29:37to do an interview with him, just like, well, what what are
- 29:40your thoughts about the polcala here right now? And he doesn't want to have
- 29:42any involvement with him, And I don't blame him. He's gone, but
- 29:45heaven Wise and Mansion Frontos I think is important, and I do think if
- 29:49Mansion's doing us, he's now finally shown some action to show. Look,
- 29:53I'm supporting my friend Steve Williams. I am not getting back in this race.
- 29:57And there are several other notables aames on the bill, including a few
- 30:00mayors, state Democratic Party chair Mike Pushkin, of course, some legislators,
- 30:03some heavy hitters from the world of business, and as I told Pushkin Stephen
- 30:07when he was on the show last week, if Steve Williams can't raise money
- 30:11with this crowd. He's just not really trying. That's it. That's it.
- 30:14That's why I think this particular fundraiser is extremely important for him. So
- 30:18I think how much money he comes out of this and how much money he
- 30:22raises during this quarter, which we'll find out here in about about a week
- 30:26week and a half or so. I think it's important because it's got to
- 30:29do. There's got to be something to spark interest of other people. And
- 30:33you know it's going to be expensive. It may not be as expensive as
- 30:36the Republican primary, but we all know Morrisy's got money he can put into
- 30:40this. Speaking of which, not to be outdone, there's a big fundraiser
- 30:45for Patrick Morrison, current Attorney General candidate for governor. He's going to be
- 30:48in my neighborhood, Sleepy Hollow Country Club and over in tays Valley on the
- 30:53July second, which next Tuesday, Senators Eric tar and Glen Jeffries and again
- 30:57a lot of big time players from world of business. The checkbooks are going
- 31:00to be coming out that night. Sir, Oh yeah, for sure.
- 31:03I mean Morrissey's not going to take anything for granted, he's a hard charging
- 31:07guy. We already saw that during the primary. He's going to raise as
- 31:11much money as he can, He's going to spend as much money as he
- 31:15can to ensure that he can wind up with the victory in November. So
- 31:21I don't think there's any doubt about that. I think he I don't make
- 31:26predictions, but I do think that he's going into this looking pretty good right
- 31:32now. And again that's why Williams has to get some money into his bank
- 31:37account. So what are you watching today? I am actually working on a
- 31:41retrospective of federal flood mitigation funding. Of course, we just came past the
- 31:49eighth year anniversary the twenty sixteen floods, and we all remember twenty eighteen,
- 31:53twenty nineteen, some of the issues with the Rise West Virginia program and some
- 32:00of the slow spending that was going on. And we know that there's been
- 32:02efforts to try to do flood mitigation. We have a Joint Flood Mitigation Committee
- 32:08in the legislature. There had been funding talked about. There's been a lot
- 32:12of talk about flood mitigation, but I don't feel like there's been as much
- 32:16action, particularly on funding actual projects to do it. So I'm calling back
- 32:22through and seeing what we've spent from the federal government on this and where we're
- 32:25at right now with flood mitigation because it's so important. What do you believe
- 32:30in climate change or not. There's no doubt that we are experiencing more and
- 32:35more flooding events in the state, and we're not the only mountain the state
- 32:38that deals with flooding, but there are other states that handle flood mitigation.
- 32:42Is certainly better than what we do, and we have more money right now
- 32:46to deal with it than we've ever had before, but it just seems like
- 32:50there's no real big projects that we're hearing about. So I'm kind of looking
- 32:53to see where we stand on that er and remind people where people can check
- 32:55out your stuff. Sure, Parkerspur News and Sentinel, Wheeling Intelligencer and News

- 38:22of texts to get to tex says because McCoy, this Texter loves to refer
- 38:28to mac by his real name for some reason. I don't know why.
- 38:30Because McCoy keeps lying about the Constitution prohibiting the federalization of state elections. Read
- 38:36read rather Article one, section four of the US Constitution on air, especially
- 38:40the part about Congress changing the rules. The times, places and manner of
- 38:45holding elections for senators and representatives shall be prescribed in each state by the legislature
- 38:50thereof. But the Congress may at any time, by law, make or
- 38:54alter such regulations, except as the places of choosing senators. As a Texter,
- 39:00now, I'm not a constitutional attorney, so I do I have to
- 39:05do a little, a little bit of a deep dive on that Texas Dave
- 39:09elections should be the same in every state. Stop disenfranchising people's right to vote,
- 39:15says a Texter. Text says, too bad, Michael Lithy, pink
- 39:21chips lead him down. The CIA Trump election lost conspiracy hole. I can't
- 39:24take anything that guy says seriously, even if it is serious, says a
- 39:30Texter. Tex says, the baby dog portrait is a symptom of our elected

- 42:09story made it here in Florida, and no doubt there's more important things to

- 42:19What people are concerned about, as people in the media have questioned and others
- 42:22have been, the whole procedure for the thing, not that it's baby dog.

- 42:39others of the world. They can get into that. But I think that's
- 42:43what the story it's not about baby dog. It's not. And if you
- 42:46pick up your copy of Because that Mail this morning, I think there's two
- 42:49editorials about this on the page. It's just about the way it was it
- 42:54was done, and that you are choosing a particular political candidate this case,
- 43:00the governor to go down in history for lord knows how long that his personal
- 43:05pet was on there as opposed to just generic animal. I think, as
- 43:08I said, Western Dana brown dog, that's the that's the way you got
- 43:12to go with this in my opinion. For Davea Island showing five Dye Live

- 43:39Texas Day, we've heard enough about baby dog. Please have more discussion on
- 43:43a lack of road and bridge maintenance. The incompetent d HHR CPS school system,
- 43:49et cetera. I agree, but again, as Hobby said on the
- 43:52show, our job as talk show host is to talk about what people are
- 43:54talking about, and this is what a lot of people are talking about.
- 43:59Again to three four things can all be true and can be right. At

- 44:12Reference to the Governor's themed fictional fictional characters text of the historical angle. A
- 44:19baby dog doesn't work either. Baby dog is an accessory dog, selectively bred
- 44:23for its traits that make the dog an accessory, not a working dog like
- 44:28its ancestors. That's why I said it should have been a mutt dog,

- 48:24to talk a little shop here as we closed the show this morning, and
- 48:29I let me just just kind of hear me out on this, all right,
- 48:32let me just say this. I love my textures to the show.
- 48:37I do. I don't know who they are. I see a phone number.
- 48:40If they make a threat to me, I could call the police,
- 48:43but they don't. I've got great listeners and great texters ninety nine point nine
- 48:47ninety nine percent. And I love my textures, don't get me wrong.
- 48:52But I'm gonna have to come up with some kind of a contest or something
- 48:59to ramp up more calls to this show. I mean, you know,
- 49:04I'm an old school radio guy. I've been doing this for thirty six years.
- 49:07Only been really full time at the talk show Realm though for about four
- 49:09years. And I'm gonna just say I miss not having as many callers.
- 49:15And it's I don't think it's anything that I'm doing wrong. Well, it
- 49:19could be. You may disagree, and I know you're out there. The
- 49:22ratings show that you're definitely listening. The revenue that the show brings in shows
- 49:30that you're there. And by the amount of text, I mean, I
- 49:32normally cannot get to all the text we have the show in one day,
- 49:36and I do appreciate that very much, and I am extremely grateful for that.
- 49:43But in the words of Rick Springfield, Captain eighty's here, you know
- 49:46as I am, it's good to have a little human touch every now and
- 49:51then, So don't be afraid to call the show from time to time.
- 49:54Calling numbers are still the same three zero four, three four five fifty eight
- 49:58fifty eight three zero four, three four five fifty eight fifty eight. I
- 50:00understand the text thing, and I you know, and I'm so thankful for
- 50:06the text, love the text, but sometimes you just like to have some
- 50:07calls too, So those of you that can. I know many people that
- 50:12text may be working or doing other things and they can't call. But I
- 50:15and it doesn't matter what side of the aisle you know you're on. If
- 50:19anything, if you've learned anything and listening to this show in the past four
- 50:22years, it's said, I'm an equal opportunity offender liberal Sam too conservative,
- 50:28conservative, Sam too liberal, and I give a voice to everyone on this
- 50:31show. I have people say all the time, why do you have this
- 50:35person on some of my some of my more shall we say, not controversial,
- 50:42That's not the word. I'm looking for the ones that elicten the most
- 50:45calls and text. You know, I might push again a Greg Thomas,
- 50:50you know the people like that on both sides of the aisle. I appreciate
- 50:52all my all my texters, and I definitely appreciate all my listeners. But
- 50:57going forward, let's ramp up some calls, Let's get back, Let's try
- 51:01to get back to that as we can. I want to close with this,
- 51:04As I mentioned earlier early in the show, tonight is the first presidential
- 51:07debate. Hoppy's going to preview it next hour. What are you looking at
- 51:10as far as the debate goes, I want to get a little programming note
- 51:15here. Side note. WCCHS will have coverage of the debate starting at I
- 51:20think eight o'clock today via the ABC Radio network, So if you can't tune
- 51:23in, we will have complete coverage. REDS Baseball will instead be heard on
- 51:28Charleston's ESPN Radio. What am I expecting from the debate tonight, Well,
- 51:31one thing, it's nine o'clock, so Papaal is going to have a hard
- 51:35time staying up. I can tell you that what I'm expecting is Biden will
- 51:37be confused, not know where he is, and Trump will be rude,
- 51:42crude, crafts and offensive and hoppy. Is a poll up right now on
- 51:45X asking you if you think the debates will have any impact on the election.
- 51:50I can tell you now answer is no. People have long ago made
- 51:52up their mind who they're voting for, between Biden and Trump and Pal.
- 51:57For a lot of us out there, the answer may be none of the
- 52:00above, but we'll be watching the debate tonight. May Thanks to the Secretary
- 52:05of State Mac Wonner for being here and also to Steven Allen Adams. Download
